Lee inclined the equine podcast or the internet horse community. And we've been doing that since january two thousand seven so you've been doing it for quite a while and you produce it. I noticed almost weekly Bi weekly biweekly. What we do. And then we're up to episode thirty four but truly we're much further along than not because we do multiple episodes when we go events so for instance We went to the chill No the red deer main event Pro before last and we Podcast daily episode. That sounds like fun. So what are you guys doing. Your podcast And courage everybody to check it out an equation. Lee inclined dot com What we do is we are trying to make sure that people that are new tillerson shift or even you know involved in horse ownership have a good understanding of what it involves in owning a horse Because oftentimes people come into horse ownership and they really don't understand what they're getting themselves into so we have health tips We also have news and events that are going on across canada. We've got some interviews with some really high highly placed athletes and that sort of thing. We actually one of the things that people might be interested in doing since we share An athlete whose common to the united states and canada though he was on the canadian team is not cone and we did an interview with him in episode seven which was quite some time ago. And it's kind of a getting to know matt calm. And he hasn't came from tennessee. Always down my neck of the woods. Well i'll have to Definitely linked to that on the show notes so people can go directly there and download and take a listen to it so you guys do a good job you cover the news and then you do some interesting things like this last one of the last episode. You were doing fence building you. Definitely i can tell try and cater to the market that you're in and the horse owners and what they deal with on an everyday basis. Well that's what we try to educate people and You know we. We were aiming at people who are new to horse industry. But then we've had a lot of people who've been involved the horse industry for quite a while and they come up and say man. That was such a good topic. I didn't know that you know and so we feel really good that we're helping. That's very informative very Down to earth informative episodes but it's it doesn't intimidating to listen to some of these informative websites are they just they kind of boggle. "Well we call him captain canada so if you ever you're watching any of the big events that happened at spruce meadows you'll You'll hear them announced him coming into the ring. And now you know. We're gonna see some captain canada. So he he is somewhat of a hero in the equestrian world for sure and he's got the wisdom of a few years behind him doesn't he and you know. Sometimes that's that's all you need if you've got a good horse and you still have your physical ability and you've got that knowledge of having been through all of those All of those rounds of riding and you know what can happen and you know the best things to do and i. It's it's really wonderful watching him. Ride st one. I think they said oh. He's sixty one. Yes yup and diplomatic and years. I thought i'd just throw it out there. Thanks did they. He got that nickname. I assume. because he's been captain of so many teams You know. I think that he probably has and you know he's his his riding. Goes back to the days of big band. Big ben was an absolutely amazing horse. He was huge and they used to dominate in the In the equestrian world the show jumping world dot time and Unfortunately big ben had one many call up operations he he did have a problem with college and He he just didn't make it out of one of them. i think. That's what happened in the end and You know so it's been. It's been kind of an interesting journey for you know where to find new horses and it's always. It's always tough for for the riders particularly the canadian writers to to get new mounts to Help carry them through the journey. But he's managed to do it. he's got some. He's got some good horses now. And like you said some hardware to we have to congratulate the canadians. They still have to be thrilled with the silver and in the show jumping team they. They do have to be thrilled with that. i think. Oh heavens day are well. I mean the last time they you know finished in fourth place in nineteen eighty eight knots. That's the best that they've done. So so they're thrilled Michelle von court. He won a silver in his hometown of montreal. In nineteen seventy six and We're just thrilled to pieces. that's they did so well and we knew that they were coming in very very strongly because they've all been doing very well. That's great and i do think that you may have gotten the gold headed not been. You're down one writer there. Yeah well and you know. The nice thing is is that he was able to do with his son and his daughter there unfortunately has his wife. Lynn passed away of cancer and he did say that he was riding with an angel on his shoulder. And that's you know made them come through without solar well. It is good that his children were able to be with him. Yep and he hopes to make it in two thousand twelve and he hopes maybe we'll have team miller because both children ride talking about hayes on a different subject a little bit of the olympics. That's what most of our shows about today. Is you podcast. Also up there. You've been doing it quite a while. And tell you what i'm gonna chai say it and i always mess it up because you couldn't have picked a harder to words put together finely inclined and i'll put the link to it in the show notes for sure but it's just equine -ly inclined to dot com equal. Put back together this orange cat and he and i had the pleasure of of petting and enjoying some sunshine with his kitty. He seemed better than new cool. Yeah well it sounds like you had fun. And i'm noticing here that we have our friend from the north on the line. So let's say hi. Hi sylvia howard things in the great white north. I glenn it's nice to hear from you. Things are going very well. We're just finishing a really really hot sauce spell and i'm glad that the heat subsiding so what's hot for you guys. Well thirty thirty four degrees celsius. Now what is that. It's going to have to try. It's going to be in the seventies or eighties here. I do math with that me but that is worth for you guys it is. It's very warm and you're wear exactly We're in alberta which is one province away from bc. It's so is is our lovely West coast destination coffins. And you're looking at the mountains. Then well definitely yes. The mountains calgary is Is close to the mountains very close to the mountains. And we're north of calgary by about three hours. So tell me you've been to the calgary stampede Know what i have never been. Is that right. The horror has been my dream. That's one of the lifelong dreams. I have is to go to the calgary stampede. Maybe i should make it my lifelong dream you. Can you tell us city girl from new york. What the calgary stampede is. The calgary impede is very much western. It's very much roots of Of what the wild west was you know when you know everything was first populated out here and So they have. They have all kinds of western type thing. They've got Barrel racing and they've got Breaking buck riding chuck wagon racing. They've got chuck wagon racing. Yes that's a very big deal and jumping newell's You know the jumping yields was part of spruce meadows which isn't really connected to the stampede. But they did Have the meals down at stampede. And they were just kind of touring around and trying to increase everybody's knowledge of mules on how fascinating they are and how versatile they are well. That's great and actually one of the big reasons. We two big reasons we call. It was one to talk a little bit about your podcast. Which you've been doing for quite a while up there in canada and also to razzie a little bit about the show jumping the other night at the olympics. We're we went into a jump off with canada and we we ended up squeaking it out and it was partly because you only had three. Riders left at that point and a little bit of a disadvantage in the jump. Off would not have been interesting to see how things might have. Panned oti yes. It would have been but you had the story of the in the olympics. I think in. Ian miller ye and miller. He's been to nine olympics and he finally realized his dream and he came away with hardware so that was really good. He's something of a national hero out there doesn't he have a a unique.

"It's like style assigns so check them out was nice and jackie to stop by with us today and pay us a visit. I know she's busy doing all her olympic coverage on regarding horses so it was nicer to stop by and do that great blog and i heard you had some fun last weekend. What were you up to. oh i was. I was hor- shopping in pennsylvania. Your neck of the while your hometown neck of the woods. Does your husband know you were shopping. I knew i was going on a book club. Adventure that seems to work. Yes he did no. It doesn't listen to these shows. Does he know he smart. He knows not to a good blood. Pressure is nice and low but yeah an unfortunately my fifteen year old quarter partner. Zeke is has to be retired from riding so he's got an elbow injury. So i'm keeping my eyes open for something that's fun and wise and sane and i went down to pennsylvania to a couple of places. One of which Is watts horses near denver. Pennsylvania really nice has been wife team that work with camp horses and horses and All kinds of good old sane sweet horses who've been there and done that one. The one of the friends that i was traveling with was looking for an experienced vendor and that brought us to a fellow by the name of vince diggins stable. Down in union ville. yeah which. Oh my gosh. Union villas gorgeous. Sit is beautiful. Oh my i. I'm in love every saw for sale. Sign i gotta buy this farm. Good luck with that also very expensive. Well i can see why so. We got to to meet and talk with vince dugan personally. Who is definitely an old time character. He is so knowledgeable about horses. He is not as young as me. I'll put it that way but man this guy can ride circles around. A lot of the jumpers hunter jumper riders. I've seen he sort of a legend. Wow knows stuff. Yeah he was. He was talking about telling jokes and talking about horses and riders and some of his old competition days. He's talking about. He'd say bart this and george that and he's talking about dynamic thirty and morris and joe farthest i mean these were his peers and i definitely felt like i was in the company of greatness and really really nice guy just that he and his wife janice were so friendly and so accommodating. They live right down the street. Don't they from new bolton the the horse hospital right down the street in the. There's a really interesting story because they had this really sweet orange tabby cat who you know barn cat sweet guy And vince was telling us that one day the cat had crossed the road and was unlucky enough to get hit by a car and the the the surgeon will borrow. Surgeon had taken the cat and reconstructed his hips by choice was put the cat down. Or let's do some serious surgery. So i didn't know they did cats. I.

"For a while. I was writing about therapeutic. Riding and abc's extreme home makeover did episode where they actually did a therapeutic riding center along with a house. And so i wrote about that ahead of time. And so i have a few things like that that got a line kentucky. Derby time You know and i was. Maybe seeing four hundred visitors on my best days when those were spiking and i started doing the olympics and that started multiplying by tens and twenties and and just going up incredibly so I've gone so maybe having a hundred and fifty people visiting day and thirty subscribers to my highest nearly eight thousand and i've been averaging between three and four thousand people a day on my blog since the olympics started. Wow congratulations that's listen it is. It's exciting and it's fun to because it's not just people in the us where i'm based. I've got people coming from countries all over. I've had people commenting on from afghanistan and australia and new zealand and denmark and all kinds of places all over the world which is really exciting The way that the olympics has been able to bring horse people from all over together in one place. Do you like have a real job to right. Oh yeah this is all the side what do you do. I am actually an internet marketing consultant So so the things that. "Done such a great job with regarding horses. As far as olympic's covers no other place with the in the equestrian world that has covered it. so well you've done better than the big sites. well thanks. i'm glad to hear that that's gotten out there That was kind of the idea back in about mid june. I went looking some information just on the olympics. To right up you know maybe a poster to about it and discovered that it was very difficult to find and none of the major horsey websites covering the olympics yet. So i decided well. If they're not going to i am so i started going out. And digging up all of the information that i could and writing general information about the three disciplines that are included and rider profiles and news and posting the a us equestrian teams when they were announced Just covering all that information ahead of time. Because i noticed that nobody else is doing it and they all started you know a week or two before the olympics. But because i'd already been doing it for over a month i already had more information and better visibility And people who are coming in reading regularly. i loved how you broke it out. You did it by the day. I mean it was just so easy to follow with the way you did it. You obviously took some time doing this. That was a favorite of mine to the what you had in sort of chronological order so that those of us with very limited time could just blog right onto your blog and go right to the day that was relevant at the time as far the results it. Yeah just what was going on day ten day eight and eleven. You could kind of pluck your little spot in time and see what regarding horses had to say about it. That was a nice way to do it. Because you know a lot of the other places you can just go find final results. And here's where everybody ended up but if you weren't able to watch or You know didn't have access to the tv or the online channels. You could go and see what happened each day of the competition and how it progressed from day today which is really interesting to see who's leading one day and he leading the next day and how the different teams are doing throughout the competition. Right it's attending it. Virtually versus like you said going and looking up just results or snippets of information. This is more like attending the event. Exactly when you did a great job to you. Add your own commentary and you're obviously took some time to write all of that. And blogging takes time. People don't realize how much time it does take it definitely does. I would sit there. And i'd have the videos plankton my screen. Because i watched almost everything live and i keep a word document up but you know right next to it and just keep taking notes as people were going. Just you know things that i noticed and things i was thinking as they were competing and then if you know the video was over i could go back and type it up into a coherent blog. Post and put up the results for the day. Did you find yourself getting sidetracked and getting really involved in the the streams or the videos and forget to take notes good. Sometimes you know i didn't. I didn't take really copious notes. There's probably more could've done with it. And i didn't necessarily get to watch every single rider every single events but i made a point of watching all of the ones that you are topped either..

"In her animal. Yes she she actually cones it with thomas schultz and lyric. So yeah. it's one of its. She's partly owns it. It's one of her animals and she's done a great job actually. She was interviewed. Also on the talking equine. Shower previous podcast. So we're going to try and get her back here. She's gonna be kinda busy. I think for a couple of weeks but we're going to try and get her back over the next couple of weeks and have her on the shell. You know what i find really interesting about. Gina miles is that at thirty four years old. She's the youngest competitor on the us. Eventing team olympic eventing team which is fabulous because s gymnastics and diving and a lot of the other sports. The their kids. We're talking about sixteen eighteen twenty four year old for thirty four to be the youngest competitor. I think is pretty fantastic. Yeah that is neat and you don't see that anywhere else because i'll tell you what when you watch the gym this. They don't even look like they're sixteen. I mean these look like little kids and when you hear him talk they talk like little kids. Yeah it is interesting but then dressage saw Very interesting one point. I remember thinking that watching assange was a little bit like watching paint dry until you really know what you're looking at. I know i still have to agree with that. A little bit being a horse husband. I have to. I can't admit that. I actually liked her saggio but i did watch it. You can appreciate the christian to the level of training. That's required to do too. But it's pretty cool like even for the non horse person to watch dressage to music. Yes i did like that. I did like your freestyle. Yup yeah and i- steffen peters. I thought did a great job. It's unfortunate. he was out of the the medal running. But what else is it. A fortunate with him is right on the tv coverage on oxygen. When they had the freestyle they showed him and went to commercial in his ride and came back and he was done so on tv. You didn't get to see the whole thing so we had to go back and watch it on the on the internet. That's where i watched it. And i thought i thought he actually did better than than how he placed. Then when you go and watch anki man oh man. that was seamless. Yes she was beautiful. It was it was. It was just incredible to watch. It's a step above with salerno. Yep it is. It was a step above and it was clear. But you know that's the olympics..

"Dot com and let us know what they do. I don't know they actually have three tractor trailers. Anybody who had seen the clydesdale see in the tractor trailers but with each hitch. That's going around the country. Have three track fifty foot tractor trailers some for the horses and some for the equipment and they're all equipped with cameras in the back to monitor so that the drivers can see the horses and the other interesting thing is that and i found this fascinating heaven driven horses before and for all of you out there. That have the reins way forty pounds. Oh goodness and with the tension on the reins it's equal to seventy five pounds. So you're it's like you're holding seventy five pounds in your hand. Driving these sources horses are can go up to twenty three hundred pounds a piece. So that's a lot. That's a lot of weight. That's a lotta horse funny. Because i help out at the horse park over here in the draft board so i helped harness up the horses and each harnessed can weigh as much as one hundred. Thirty pounds So that's that's just the harness on the horse. I mean i. It's just incredible when you put that much horse together. Six of them. It's amazing what you have to deal with. Yeah and i mean their share presence is in and you. Can you know everything that goes into it. The weight of the the horses the horses the the size of their harnesses. Their tack their shoes. Everything that goes into them. All of that is wrapped up into this one thing. This one image that you see and you feel right enormity you feel it. it's not forget. Do feel it coming. Imagine what it's like from one of those guys to step on your foot right. Yes i have. Had that happen. Because i owned a i owned in. I have had that happen. You know it for a couple of days. It's not one of those things that goes awake with the quickest moving things so they kind of step in spin and they look around. They don't know you're on their foot right right well. I think that people have been waiting and we've been putting it off. We probably should. There's a lot of other news but the biggest news right now of course is the olympics. And i think that we should talk a little bit about the olympics today. We did pretty well in some areas..

"Which is almost four hundred dollars. Yeah well. I mean herm springer puts out there. They're balanced ups which are also safety. Stir up because of the design of the the actual iron the mental and those are two hundred change see know that those kind of pricing on a thing like stirrup sends all of us horse been just in the cold sweats realize that yes i do have to. You don't have to spend two hundred or four hundred dollars to have safe stirrup right. I think it is kinda neat that that this that safety has become a you know you see the olympics now. And they're wearing their helmets on. The straps are actually strapped. Yes it is. It is different. Things are changing a little. Bit and safety is becoming more of a concern. Is we go along well particularly with stirrups because there are a fair amount of unfortunately there's a fair amount of of falls and crashes and well a lot of people will get away without head injuries. It's not uncommon to get a foot hung up in his stirrup right. And that's very easy to have happened so And particularly the levels at which these writers are riding it would be brainless to not have a safety stirrup. And you know it's even easier to happen when your horses too fat. If i saw this the other day. I saw this article. And it's actually. It's the world horse welfare charity out of england. They did a study and they went around and they actually weighed two hundred and thirty horses in in the uk. They found that eighty one percent of them were overweight. Basically we're feeding our horses too much you know you've had the same situation where you've gone to farms and you're gone there feeding this horse way. Too much. this source has just too fat and you know it happens more. I think you find that. We always talk about the cases where they repossess horses because people are feeding them at all when actually the majority is there feeding too much..

"Today let's start off like we're going to start off every show with the news and i have you know me. I don't go for the traditional stories. I find a horse husband. I find the weird stuff fascinating. So we're going to open the first news episode of the staple scoop radio show with manure specifically minority olympics. Actually jackie did a story on regarding horses about how they're handling the manure for the olympics in hong kong. And i just kind of fascinating. They have two hundred horses and they spent almost five million dollars building a composting. Plant to deal with the manure for this olympics and for the paralympics. That's coming up next month. Oh my goodness they spent five million. The chinese were real serious about making sure everything worked here but they spent five million dollars on accomplishing plan. Now you have to understand. Two hundred horses. Isn't that many at the kentucky horse park thousand over the weekend on every weekend but there's going to be a lot of poop still a lot of poop they say it's twenty to thirty tons of day twenty to thirty tons a day but this i'm guessing that the five million dollars were spent more on the technology versus desai's were you know what he is and i had to laugh at this because they're using earthworms from mainland china that basically turned the feces into fertilizer. And so that's what they're doing. And then i got laughing thinking. Didn't they have any earthworms and hong kong or special earthworms you know. There was just a lot of questions that brought up all about manure. There's the first story. And i i had to have to read this part of it. It says in an effort to stage a green olympics the process is aimed at eliminating pathogens and containing potentially odorous emissions. Gosh all.

"So now so so. Here's here's kind of the thing is. I'm hoping to keep one of these thoroughbreds and so i will by january force. Know if i'm going to keep one and then i'll be able to do john. I am in now. The most important question avery is. How much money is glenn going to pay the winner. That is what i want to know as well. I didn't start this. Pay the winner. Is it a winner. Thing is just like a personal life. Challenge kind of thing. It's a bragging rights thing. I completed the winner challenge. I you know i. I wrote my horse thirty times in twenty degree weather. What type of high will commit to. I will get together a a roving trophy. So we'll have a true. They call that won. The trophy moves with the winners. Every your i forget what they call that. I'm thinking yeah traveling trophy. I think that's what they know perpetual thank you. So we'll do that. I will commit to that. I would commit to a tr-. I'm writing it down. There's not one person that wins. Glenn so you're gonna have to make a lotta perpetual trophy. No i thought there was one person that one no. It's it's anyone that completes the thirty rides so we'll not forget reached people seven hundred perpetual drove the i would commit to the first one the complete but that's not really the challenge. A challenge is just to do it. I you know what it is. Is it just motivates you on those days relate get to the barn. You're like. I don't feel like grinding. I remember i. I went to karen o'connor clinic. And i was an auditor. And she was like the good riders. They go to the barn and they ride the great riders. Get to the barn. And they don't feel like riding but they still get on their damn horse. I can to get riders. Ride great writers ride when they don't want to get on your damn horse. Okay thanks oh she was. Until i always think like i when i it i was like i. I would give barna people were like. Are you gonna ride today. I'm here of course but there's a lot of people that don't and that's fine too. You know if. That's your horsemanship journey that you're on great. But this challenge will motivate you on those days where you're just kind of dragging and now i can. I had one of those days yesterday. We just kinda feel itchy and just not motivated and you're kind of depressed and all that wishaw was just toast with that crap. You had on it yesterday. maybe over salted. that's probably we'll see today but it is a great challenge. I did the one i think. Latin was not two years ago. I started it with grew and then i was detoxing from the makeover in the next winter. I challenged so now back. I'm ready to tackle it again. Where can people go to sign up and become a part of it. How long from the time you started running with him. And i want people to read the books. I don't wanna give away too much guy How long from the time. He started running with them to you did the race in colorado. It was a little under a year. Okay which was actually astonishingly fast amount of time when we first got sherman. Tania's i thought was it's a coin. Toss whether we actually put him down now. He was so bad if he couldn't walk properly again. Then he was such a high risk of colic that she wasn't sure whether the more merciful thing wouldn't be to put him down but we were able to trim his host. And then again. The breakthrough was we have this rocket. Go ahead with this rocket named lawrence. He's one of these. Like troubled shovel kids that as flashes of brilliance. But most of the times is breaking your windows. And wrecking your car. That's long ago. The lawrence had that flash of brilliance on that first night with sherman he immediately glued himself to sherman side and wouldn't leave him. I choked up about discovery time. I talked about it i. He became chairman instant companion. And that brought sherman back because lawrence is super affectionate and loyal. But he's also hungry so when the when the hey came out in the morning lawrence is off to get food. Sherman took his first steps after his hose of intrinsic to try to follow lawrence. And that's what we realized. Okay he's gonna be mobile he can move. And then we use lawrence kind of training. Buddy we take lawrence for a walk. And in sherman way follow and once that started to happen with okay..

"Right keeps them and then one person said you know we actually no one and we're trying to get him out of his place and turned out. There was a local farmer who had become a hoarder and he had a couple of animals locked away in a stall in a barn. And they're really bad shape. And i've the great you know it's a win for everybody but when we went to look at this donkey and we saw what horrific condition it was in after years being locked in the stall kinda my heart saying like this is not a president for nine year old. This is a rescue operation. It's a project and then and then daughters were with us at the time but we all kind of looked at each other and we thought. There's no way leave this here. It's like he's coming out of here so we ended up taking him home and this was the donkey that ultimately led to the book. You know. I hope everybody has someone in their lives. Like our friend tonya. Tanya only became our friend because when we brought this donkey home and we realized how badly foundered it was never had its host trimmed. Its teeth rotting. We're looking at you like a. What do we do for our heads. So i started to ask around the my neighbors. Hey who's that woman who was riding a donkey on the trail and then lancaster. If you're a woman who rides a donkey on a trail in the saddle everybody knows who you bet. So yeah the way. You want tanya. Well here's a number so we called this woman might never met for more than a second she blazes over to our house and takes this donkey. He s her personal mission to bring it back to life. And when i say hope everyone has someone in their life like talk because she is uncompromising unsparing. She was as angry and insistent with me as she would have built to earn that donkey because she wanted to get well and she was not going to tolerate me drinking around and being helpless so she schooled me up pretty fast or when i needed to do and that began against the thing that stuck in my head was she said you know what every creature needs purpose. You can't just stick this thing out in the field we're born is telling you are. You need to give it a reason to open. Its eyes and get excited every day. You gotta figure that out. Otherwise animals going die and You know a prospector. Pioneer westward breath for donkey. Then i remembered that people still run with them as as for a sport and came. Maybe maybe that's our job so you taught that donkey to run with you. Then i'm we've covered that race in colorado. We've had winners on over the years and things we've cut. We do exactly what you're talking about but not all donkeys are cut out for that. Why not. i'm not sure about that. Because genetically they are these are these are roving ranging creatures. You know that and donkeys. And.

"So it's quite convenient in the marketplace is that you you have a business and you can subcontract with creative types you bring in as you say an advertising agency you marketing company or something like that and these people commend you pay them and they popcorn ideas with you and so and then you send them back to their crazy offices with you know how their decorated and so in church work we have to live with these people mean there actually on our staff and we have to work very closely those of us who put on weekends services every seven days we need to actually it'll be in the same planning rooms and and beyond the same pages were trying to create a holiday services outreach services regular weekend services and that's a little bit of a challenge because some creative types not all but believe me not all in my experience but some creative types watch so much creative stuff they're there it they're almost insular in in their exposure to so much art in so much music in so many plays and all that that they talk a language that someone like me i'm not exposed all that and so sometimes when they're trying to tell me what's cool and and i have no idea what they're talking about it takes a little time to get on common ground and and seek to understand so quite often what i've had to do with my creative people is i say look stopped trying to describe something to me because i'll never get it you come in with your laptop.
