Black Widow Movie Review
"Spectacle of the big screen. Variety has also been in great supply recently. We'll get to several new releases this week. Well several being four steven soderbergh's latest the crime drama. Director quests love came to theaters into hulu that concert doc about a nineteen sixty nine harlem concert series that featured performances by nina simone stevie wonder sly and the family stone and many more all of those having never been seen since nineteen sixty nine our review of that one could just be a ranking of our top five favorite moments. We might. We might even do that. Josh that would probably get us through the first half hour of the movie. I think we can pick five from that. Yeah you also caught up with zola which stars riley keough a wild road trip tale inspired at least in part by an infamous twitter thread. I can't wait for you to unpack that and more later in the show. But i the is finally back on a big screen near you after a handful of disney plus streaming series phase for kicks off with the scarlett johansson starring feature black widow. Fine an enter. A Program Vs. A Project - Brandon Kaplan CEO of Skilled Creative Discusses the Rise of Voice in Media and Commerce - Voicebot Podcast Ep 216 - burst 06
"Yeah i think a lot. Lot more of the conversations in the marketing teams have more flexibility than moving more quickly But we show like a spectrum to our clients who say hey you know you wanna you wanna make big expensive. Heavy alexis kill We can do that but while we're doing that. Do you have a podcast that you want to drive traffic to voice device will let's literally just do a media plan that is you know Social media posts the say amazon lady play the blank podcast and that took one day's worth of effort so for every one of our clients. We've got a product roadmap. That's that's plotted in a very important Factor that's on every single execution which is a level of lift versus potential return. And we're testing out with all workloads. So we're not putting all of our eggs in one basket. We're saying let's test all of it so maybe. Hbo max does want to really heavily promote amazon lady. Play blank on. Hbo max to fire tv device owners. And we're piloting that as much as we're piloting really heavy alexa skills or or other things. And and don't forget you know that there's a whole slew of other things that these companies care about which is really interesting physical activation. They care about customer service they want to have a conversation around vr and want to drive subscriptions. They have merchandise that they want to sell an amazon inventory So that's why say there's like two hundred layers deep and we're constantly just assessing and bringing to our clients what we think the best next thing for them to be testing against his And that's why we look at it as a program versus a project.
What Skilled Creative Is - Brandon Kaplan CEO of Skilled Creative Discusses the Rise of Voice in Media and Commerce - Voicebot Podcast Ep 216 - burst 03
"Were a voice agency You know we call ourselves a full service voice agency because we we help our clients with education and strategy and creative and technical production and audio production creative production go to market strategy maintenance analytics partnership management so if an organization is interested in invoices a channel or a user interface than were or there. Were we kind of look at ourselves. Like a accenture or deloitte for us as touch point And started the company as as an innovation company working in a bunch of different technologies. And then we we. We pivoted to really hyper focusing on voice. You know probably three years ago And then you know. We've we've further kind of whittled down into a few different categories. We certainly work with a number of cpg clients because we we see a big growth in invoice commerce as many others do but we've also really doubled down on on and so that's why we've had the chance to work with meredith corporation the nba and potter more and warner music group and warnermedia. Hbo max and a number of different media companies. Because if you look at you know how people engage with voice a lot of it is media and entertainment and we talked to our clients a lot where we say you think about computers in nineteen ninety-seven think about mobile phones in two thousand seven people didn't get a smartphone in two thousand seven and then throw it out they just got the next one and it kept on permeating their house in their lives more and more and more so as soon as somebody adds voice device to their house. It's likely some small outliers gonna say that was that was weird and they and they turn it off and plug it but most people are going to be offloading more and more of their daily utility to those devices. So we say listen. If you know media and entertainment has really been at the forefront of every major digital We'll see voice any different so music and entertainment and streaming and games and news and and all of that we think voices a a really powerful user interface for

Roald Dahl's Matilda: Favourite Books
"We thought we talk about some of our favorite books when your kids. This is a question we got a. What was your favorite things to read. When you were younger we thought we do an episode on it and You wanna start. Give us one of your favorite books. Yes oh i had a hard time choosing just books and i have gone with a couple Authors and i'm going to start with one of the old classics role doll. Because i really loved mathilde. But i also really loved the witches and i loved danny champion of the world. There are many many books by roald. Dahl that very much loved. So but matilda was probably my favorite mathilde classic movie. Featuring mara wilson danny devito perelman none of important featuring the trunch bull mathilde a book all about a little girl with special magical powers who goes to school and and she has really crummy parents and then she goes to a school where there's a really crummy principal But then she meets a teacher named miss honey and things start to go a little bit better for her and it's great. Yeah and there's magic realism. It's really fun book. Probably if you're around our age you seen the movie. It's still a great book for kids. The movie holds up. it's all great yeah And and other books by roald dahl are also really good the witches which also has just recently a movie on. Hbo max and it's another movie from our childhood. That was very scary. I don't recommend it. Also which is for slightly older kids kind of scary

"hbo max" Discussed on The Streaming Wars
"They already preemptively launched the service ahead of time when the olympic scott postponed they kind of were at a odd position. They you know they could have just kept it going just for comcast subscribers. But that wouldn't have helped them in general building up something that they obviously spend money creating and getting anybody else to sign up and it also wouldn't work well to help advertise on that's only available for comcast subscribers so that just wouldn't have worked so the being postponed was outside of their control. But that i think that definitely hurt their initial build up and while they have said over and over again that they're sign ups are great and they're doing wonderful and blah blah blah blah blah. You know deep down that within that company were greatly upset when those olympic scott postponed. Because that was really the launching point for peacock to exist. Now we know here. We are year later. They're claiming that there's going to be over seven thousand hours of from the olympics this year and that they are going full steam with making sure that everything's covered despite the fact that the japanese people do not want the olympics in their in their in their Country anymore because of covid because even having their own issues with covert that being said the other one is hbo. Max and i think a lot of this stems from a couple of purposes. I think there's this massive confusion on whether or not you had the access to. Hbo max or not. There was the whole mishap with hbo now. Hbo go hbo. Max which one's which they didn't resolve that problem until a couple of months afterwards. There was that initial problem. There's the other problem of there was a ton of different ways. You could get the service for free depending on a variety of different things if you already were subscriber if you were a subscriber of certain. At and t. plans. It just became extremely confusing. I think for people who are seeking it out on a whim. It wasn't more of the people who are like. I really want to check out atrial max because there are certain content that i wanna watch. Those people are probably going to go sign up for. Hbo max regardless. They're not necessarily going to spend the time trying to figure out well even if they did they would put the effort into trying to figure out where they can go to find the content and if it's available for free or not but if you're not and you're just like oh yeah. I like friends. I'll i want to check out friends and you are being told that you know there's a chance that you might be able to watch it for free because you're already subscription -scribed to something that allows you to have free access and then you're having issues logging in it presented problems. It presented a bunch of problems. There was that massive confusion. Obviously it would have been better for them to also have the ad supported initially not going to say that hindered them initially but biggest thing for hbo. Max is the insane amount of confusion and it also didn't help that. The vast majority they have so much other content there was in other places the dc universe that had a bunch of the dc content with that same content wasn't on hbo. Max even though people were expecting a lot more dc content you had other content like crunchy roll content that was limited..

It was made during this really fun time i. It's it's an even more impressive achievement. Because of that. And i do want to ask. I also wanna say extend my apologies chris. My co host is not here for this podcast partly because he thinks five people is too many but also. Because i think he assumed correctly that i was gonna hijack this and turn it into a sitters club. "In the Heights": A Joyous Return to the Movies
"T o P News Well before Hamilton Lin Manuel Miranda won best musical for in the Heights. The hotly anticipated movie version is now showing in movie theaters and streaming on HBO. Max, Who's Na'vi de la Vega runs a bodega in one Washington Heights, New York, Dreaming of returning to the Dominican Republic. Anthony Ramos inherits the Royal from Lin Manuel Miranda, but it won't be jarring to D C audiences who already saw him in the part of the Kennedy Center. We root for his romance with Melissa Barrera, just as we do, Allegedly Grace and Corey Hawkins, all four of which get character arts, dreaming of starting a tiki bar. Becoming hairstyle is fighting for immigrants and running a taxi dispatch director John Chu proves you can do things on screen that you can on stage, choreographing dance numbers in swimming pools, surreal subway tunnels, even sides of buildings. 'In the Heights,' a Movie Full of Joy and Love
"After a long delay its scheduled release due to the pandemic in the heights is finally out both in theaters and on hbo. Max monica. i'm going to start with you. What did you think of in the heights. i loved it. There are very few movies that already have in tears by the time. The you know the opening studio credit shows up just as the movies beginning. It's basically coco and in the heights and this one had me from the jump. It's just so beautiful so jubilant it is a celebration of everyday life is a celebration of the connections that bind us. You know as you were saying. There's such a huge ensemble and everybody's great. I mean it doesn't feel like there's a misstep in the whole movie and for me. It's almost a little hard to talk about without almost crying. So i'll try to avoid that but but i do love how considering that it was delayed by the pandemic and you know the hype for in the heights was already happening when everything was interrupted and so now it does feel like this big return it does feel like the celebration of you know the people who we rely on to get through the day and it's just so beautifully done I can't say enough. Good things about it really
CNN, Amazon and Other Major Websites Down After Global Fastly Outage
"The New York Times. CNN Twitch British government. Hulu HBO. Max Amazon, You name it. They got various error messages this morning like Unknown domain. No, those domains are out there. But dozens of websites around the world went out this morning because of an outage at a cloud servicing company called Fastly. Fastly says it's investigating the issue and as of right now, Well, Fastly says. It's a technical issue. They still haven't said No, it was not some sort of cyber attack hack. So that's what we're going to be watching all day was. What was this? And how could one single company get hit? Take down all of these information sites will be following up on that right now Jim Ryan. And speaking
David Schwimmer Still Holds a Grudge Against Marcel the Monkey
"You too much about you Want to play one clip from the Friends reunion That's on HBO Max this weekend on that involves one of the most famous characters from the first few seasons of friends, Marcel the Monkey Ross, his pet monkey who believe it or not, nobody could say a monkey. Obviously it was trained and it had to hit its mark and do its thing right at the you know. At the perfect time. But what inevitably began to happen was we would all have choreographed like bits kind of timed out, and it would get messed up because the monkey didn't do its job, right. So we have to wait have to reset. We have to go again because the monkey didn't get it right. Even so angry. Still, this kept happening over and over where we're about to do something really funny, But the monkey didn't hit its mark.
"Friends" Reunion Romance Bombshell
"We're going to start with the friends reunion it drop last night on. Hbo max and fans are going crazy. Now there was a lot of fun stuff to unpack but this wild ask confession that really got our attentions inconceivable to me that there weren't perhaps offscreen romances. I mean david yup. Yeah the first season we. I had a major crush on jen I and i both some point. We were both crushing hard on each other but it was like two ships passing because one of us was always in a relationship so we never crossed that boundary. You know we respected that and but we both both. They definitely saw each other naked. Listen did you notice the way she kind of looked over like are we saying it or not really. Do not feel like a spontaneous story. We're decide whether they were gonna come clean or not or she looked at him like Let me see this. They definitely did
Amazon to Buy MGM in $8.45 Billion Deal
"Listeners. It's brett molina. Welcome back to talking tech co. Mike snyder is off today. So how's this for a summer. Movie blockbuster amazon confirmed on wednesday that it will acquire movie studio. Mgm in a deal that's valued at eight point. Four five billion dollars in a statement amazon said they will help preserve. mgm's heritage a films which includes more than four thousand titles including a lot of names. That i'm sure many of you are familiar with james bond. The magnificent seven raging bull rocky legally blonde a lot of very popular very well known films. Mgm also owned several popular tv shows including the handmaid's tale which is currently in the middle of its fourth season on hulu. The deal is still subject to regulatory approval amazon. Didn't say when they expect to steal to close and when they would officially own mgm but clearly. This is a pretty significant step on several factors it highlights a lot of consolidation that we're noticing in the streaming market These there are a lot of these Different services out there and it's getting very competitive and we're seeing a lot of consolidation here. One example of this is a t and t. They announced that deal earlier this month to combine its media business with discovery so that brings together stuff like. Hbo max and then cnn tbs tnt with discovery networks like food network hdtv now if you are a subscriber to amazon. This is an interesting proposition because now if you have a subscription to prime video you have this new collection of movies and tv shows the you can draw from if you subscribe to other services. I don't know exactly which. Mgm movies are available in one which services. But it's possible. Maybe some of those movies. We'll transition

Money talks Does but i mean out of all the people that are in possibly in play. I mean i think disney is probably still the richest but This big players in there like amazon apple net flicks who have streaming services as well that have lots of money and they could do with. Because honestly i don't see why disney would even be interested in these
"Friends" Reunion Trailer Is Here
"The friends reunion had tears. Labs and now a bit of controversy. Watch this we have such a bond from this show. Rawson rachel on a bright. Yes i remember. I went to the producer of the show. I was on and he said that shows not gonna make you a star. It was an incredible time. Became best friends are no. You know how big the show is. We felt like we had these friends and the friends reunion airs on. Hbo max on may twenty seven. All right when you saw this. What did you. I think about the trailer. I'm so excited. I can't wait. Say it shady. It's the same space you got to get killed for this. But i'm i'm ready. I've prepared for this moment. I kinda don't need a friends reunion. Who i hear that i nothing against friends. It has nothing to do with friends. I love the show. I've watched every episode. I have the like anniversary. Dvd kit with all of the cds in it. It has nothing to do with friends. It has to do with the fact that. I don't think every show that i loved in the eighties. And nineties. needs a reunion or a reboot. Sometimes the original left as is is better than trying to recreate the magic that existed in that apartment on that set. And i just. I don't know i'm like you. I'm the same with friends sex in the city. I will watch them in their nineties. They put them on tv all day. Long chrishell don't let her fool you because she's going to be the first one with popcorn on sex in the city you will go back for in the city.

"Engagement with every episode that they're releasing so that's huge numbers now the next bit of news. What actually released today. There was a summit that was held and john stinky was there and talked about how. Hbo max has jumped to over. Twelve million activation. Since the last time they talked about activation which was they basically talked about at the end of q. Three which was at the beginning of october. And those those numbers that they discussed at the beginning of october. They're sitting about eight point. Four and other sitting like about twelve point six million activation so in just two months. They have increased over fifty percent their number of activation.
"hbo max" Discussed on The Streaming Wars
"There's this belief that there is an under utilization of the looney tunes characters long with a lot of the other stuff that they have within warner brothers. Including tom and jerry and a lot of the hanna barbera characters and they're not really being used as well as they should be. And a lot of that goes back to the usage from cartoon network and how that stuff wasn't really being utilized as well as it probably should have been shopping for content outside of the company instead of trying to utilize some of the characters. They've already have and already have established and that there is a following maybe not as big as some of the other ones. But that is the that you know. That's that's what we're getting. So the person who's taking over is actually from warner brothers television. They were already in charge of global kids young adults in classics or put in charge of that back in june. That is tom asham. And he's going to be working hand in hand with casey boies. Who's obviously leading the hbo and hbo. Max content division as well. But there's a lot of content that i believe as a potential of of them doing a lot of things. Brothers has an insanely large catalog of content. They can create really great things with. It's just a matter of finding the right thing you know. One of the biggest surprise i think with. Hbo max launched was that they had these looney tunes shorts that were in in some regards. Some of the most watched content on the service when i launched. And there's a reason for that because kids to this day will still. They still enjoy looney toons. Looney tunes even the older stuff that is decades old is still very much enjoyable by children to this day. It's it's content that works and if you look at some of the newer mickey mouse stuff that they've had. There's a new mickey mouse series coming at disney plus this month. That is literally in the same. The old looney toon stuff where it's like off the wall kind of xenakis that's you. You typically see when it comes to the looney tunes and then they did that with mickey mouse and mickey mouse group of characters and dow it. You know it's very popular so it works so needless to say. There's a lot of other content hanna. Barbera has a huge library of content and characters. they have that they haven't really used utilized. There's a lot of characters that they can be doing a lot more with and when they have a service like hbo. Max said basically they have the ability to create this content. It's just a matter of getting the content made by good producers and having content you put in front of the eyeballs are children. It makes a lotta sense why they would do this restructuring. I mean one moving responsibilities over to this other part of wb mainly because like hbo. Max like yes. They want to go after more viagra audience. Yes they want all these different. But focusing just on my kids content. Revamping these properties in not necessarily a think fits best the real house in having the best. It's not a good use of their time. I think i mean this contents..

That's. A good professional religion, no, of course not I wouldn't be able to advise her correctly. Yeah, I'd be like well. This script has you in a bikini. Costume designs for this one. You should do this. Acquis and that's not the kind of agent you want. Another one that is being labeled as an HBO Max Original, but it's not. It's from DC Universe is literal, and I will say I highly recommend. Doom patrol is very weird show. It is a DC property, but it's not really a superhero thing I think it's like fifteen episodes the it's the rare case during the. Filming of it. It was going so well that they added on episodes. fantastic show very very weird. And it's about puppies that. Are Like police officers now you're thinking of puppy patrol. Patrol right right now. This doom patrol What is this about these ads? Based on the nineties video game franchise, no tim not doom from from the Guy Fighting on Mars against Satan. Zeena, fighting the Devil Yeah Hell Hell Mars is hell. I think wow. Then whatever they want to go. Hey, let's go nuts. Go to Mars. Hey. Why don't you go to Mars? But on this issue you can see Brennan Frazier's but my current day Brendan Fraser's but. Great as he's having sex with somebody, okay. By recommendation great. Scale of one to ten. Oh, you know what I watched a director's cut of my own. What's that? They have the little shop of horrors director's cut. Really Yeah on HBO Max. When a! Well, he certainly wasn't. Like the muppet like nowadays like are the Sesame Street muppet at least. Now I remember my my nephew, who is three years old? He's a big. He's a big ELMO head. In my brother showed him. That muppet family Christmas special. Yeah, with with all the muppets. Yeah, but it was like a vendor's endgame, but for muppets yet had them up. It's. ELMO's in, but it was before like Elmo even had like a voice from like the late eighties. So? He's just a background character. In, my nephew, who is just like why isn't Elmo talking why? Why are they having an Elmo? Do anything I don't like this. Who are these other people? There's a rip off, yeah. So you know he doesn't like the classics. Distressing. I watched the show Tom men of a certain age starring Ray Romano, but that's not a new issue max original Tim. Two Thousand Nine to twenty eleven. Okay, pretty good show Tom I really think ray. Romano is my favorite actor. Okay, that's fine. Yeah give it a shot. It's got Scott. Back Ula on it to okay I mean. So quantum leap. But we're GONNA even watch quantum leap. I think CBS all access action. alida slug before I fucking Mason. For streaming service. And Andre Brow hours on it as well. Yeah. It's a it's A. It's a knockout cast. Who's WHO's the other guy? Scott Back Ula all right Scott Pack. The whole time you're talking talking I thought you were. I was thinking in my head everybody loves Raymond. Have you watched, there's. Here's the thing I ever watch any of it, but I've read a lot of reviews about a lot I've read like two or three reviews about it, and it is weird because they all talk about how they're like men, Kendrick, just made like a bunch of bad career decisions Yeah and she's not in really anything good now. She's in this. She's in qube original. And they were. A lot of time to film it so his best. She's like I. I've been a rush so I. Better put this Qube. But they were pointing out. That the show takes place in twenty twelve, and that that was also like the height of Anna Kendrick's like popularity and success. Like! Even, though we were built, we built our empire a nine seven six nine hundred numbers. We possibly have have. An episode of Cat House on our streaming platform. Yes, that was called. The S. you know how many. At and T. executives. Probably are billionaires they just on? Light I would actually hope that whoever came up with the idea of the nine seven six sex numbers became a billionaire off of that. Probably not it was probably some engineer or something, and some executive is like great job. And now he's on a yacht called the nine seven six. Cruising around the world. How did that work right so the phone company so? You! You got a stable of People who WanNa talk dirty on the phone for money yet I WANNA make money, and you're like okay cool. Talented enough in competent enough to run a streaming service that they're going. Ask Me to get fifteen dollars a month. No I think. Unfortunately. They already blew the WB. Branding. You wanted to see him front center I remember when. The WB and UPN both start. It was like this is nuts. They're two new channels. And starting at the same time I. Mean Broadcast Channels. "I've learned somewhat recently. That, a lot of the content was stuff that the studios just had on shelves like that. They had filmed the season of and they were like nobody bought this. They weren't even imagined. As Quick Bites Tom now. They edited them after the fact to make them into. Quick Bites well. Those must be some really talented editors was a quick bite. Doesn't it itself Tom? It's gotta be leaned and economical. They must be really good content the studios once they got done with them. They were like this is too good. We should hang onto this for a great opportunity. Like Kwabena, come along. This shouldn't be long. This should be in quick place. I've launched A. Three month trial like everybody else. Have, not launched since we did that episode. Yeah me, neither and I know I did I watched. The first episode arena, the new Reno nine one one, and it's good great. Okay? Watch that it's great, but it also made me realize like I. Think There's eleven seasons of Reno nine one one that I haven't seen. Just because I didn't watch TV a lot at the time. And that's a show. That went on that I. Don't think anybody was like I love Reno nine one, but I think anybody was clamoring for like. Now? That shows was taken away before its time bringing it back. Yeah I think they were just like guys. We ran out of ideas we've been do. We didn't six thousand episodes of it, yeah. Along Look Tim is now streaming media show because I have another update another streaming media update from another video service that is. Not Great. Which is apple? TV plus. They have acquired the rights to all the episodes of frag Iraq. I. I saw that and they're up. It's not like we got him. They'll be up next year. It's like we got him there up here we go. Have you watched them? Not Yet why? Watch it and then get back to me. You. Know How you're Kinda like. Hey, that's a show that would. For adults as well as kids. Yeah, it doesn't. Know, it's for kids. It's very firmly for kids. What about later later seasons? There's there's a bunch of puppets. There's the one guy I like Raunchy puppets. Kids puppets Tom like that. Melissa. "Let's go over some of the content news that has been announced. Bj Novak best probably known for working with the office and a number of other shows. Actually he is developing a comedy. Young people phrase feel Max Chelsea Handler will have her first comedy special in six years at. Hbo Max the Bachelor and its spin. Offs are heading T.j Maxx as well. These are including not only their spinoffs here from the states but also a lot of the international spinoffs as well from the UK or in Australia and a variety of other ones. There's lots of content. There they did announced prior to it that they announced seven new distribution partners. That actually is a little bit higher because as of this morning when they launched the actual APP comcast actually joined the group and if you are a comcast subscriber you actually have. Hbo Max able to be used through that new xfinity flex device as well as the xfinity. Dvr Box set up. Set Top box that you have. Hbo Max is accessible on both those. That deal must have came through at the very last moment because it was even announced until after the service actually launched. There was two services that it didn't launch on. Which will get you in a second however the one thing I want to talk about before that is a study that popped up that was talking about the content that people were looking forward to actually on the service and actually said that respondents to they were more likely to describe to. Hbo Because it includes TV shows and movies from HP HBO that is slightly higher than the people who said that they would stream because of the Warner Brothers TV Library. Which of course includes friends and then some other shows as well the DC extended universe. Which was that that was something. People said that they were interested in subscribing atrium x four. So the idea. That friends is the thing that's going to draw. Bunch of people in is probably not exactly the most accurate thing but it is going to draw people in but I think there's other properties in general that are going to draw more people. Hbo Each Feels Library as a whole has a lot of content. And I don't think it's a it can be matched by just ten seasons of one single show. Obviously there's plenty of people who are going to afford to watching. Hbo Max but it was interesting to see that. Like game of thrones other H. B. O. Shows one brothers TV Library D. C. Content. That kind of stuff was the stuff that was actually drawing people to services. Well yeah this is pretty interesting. I think for a long time I would have said that. Yeah you know. Like friends is is a huge deal. I thought like one of the number one things in it's in it's not but it's definitely one of the major players in the reasons why people are interested in HBO. Max But I don't think friends is important is diminished by this result. I mean yeah. It's not number one but in terms of individual properties. Right behind game of thrones right. You mean the DC EU the DC universe like those are a collection of movies. That kind of right now. Don't tell a complete story and there are some some people of the DC you who might Get at me for that comment. But the point is it's not like one contiguous story as in like game of thrones or France is as individual properties. So friends is number. Two behind. Game of thrones which for a non. Hbo Property To launch on HBO. That's I mean. That's that's pretty impressive. So friends is still a huge deal. In two percent to two percentage. Points behind Kim thrones. I'm surprised the DC. You is this high and that could be fair. A bunch of different reasons one of them could be a maybe kind of think about in terms of was it stocks or gold where speculators a little bit and. I think that there are some people who when they took the survey were probably little bit highly. Dc EU because of the The Snyder cut stuff in not trying to upset more people there but I could feel a little bit like speculation The best word I can think of right now to describe why the DC. You would be the I because I'm just surprised that there that people who are interested in the DC content just because Into like the marvel movies in the marvel cinematic universe. It just seems that the person is that The MTA is way more talked about them. The the DC you just the. The percentage of people who are interested in that content is just surprising in my opinion more so than being it being higher than like friends or with rose is is very surprising but overall I mean these numbers make sense and it gives a little bit more information into what people are expecting from the service in what streaming platforms supposed to kind of provide basically got the DC. You GOING GONNA release its current content and then also properties as new films released in. Tv shows released. I mean game of thrones is. It's it's one of the top tier shows in television history. So it's Kinda like one of those evergreen shows friends again like an evergreen show so it shows the balance between we'll like new content. That can come out but then also evergreen content. That's just going to Stay draw people all right so now. Let's get into some details about the launch. So I the one thing that is worth noting is that leading up to the launch. There was some interviews that were done with a variety of different people within. At and T. And were media specifically talking about the launch one of the things that they had prepped. Basically everybody for just a couple within the last two weeks was that. They said that they did not have any sort of deal in place with Amazon and they did not have any sort of deal in place with Roku to have. Hbo Max Available. There are a lot of other devices that you can use. Hbo Max on. There's actually a wide variety of them. But of course if you are a you are a subscriber who only uses Amazon devices or Roku devices then of course is a downfall because then you can actually watch it on your television however or however you watch your your your programming. So roku Amazon have thirty three percent of the streaming streaming box market. Yeah it's a huge number is it's huge. Yeah and I remember. There was a Amazon. Actually put out some sort of statement earlier today. I guess they were really not holding punches when it comes to not liking whatever..

If we're a little slightly off center and that's you know that's my personal taste too so that hopes but I can't. Hbo Max with a Band of women Some I know some of her great things about was that a conscious decision on your part to have it be reflective also behind the camera. It wasn't I didn't set out. "When you have to be more creative and you have to go out and sell shows to make a living you have to see to see something three steps ahead and not. Just what's put right in front of you and so I think that that has been helpful to me for sure. So when you're building a slave from scratch and you're essentially building a new brand which is what you're doing. Did you have an edict from Kevin Riley or Sarah in terms of? Here's how we wanted to feel and look or was it like we trust your instincts. Just get great shows because it seems like such a great of stuff. Yeah a little of both You Know Hbo Max Part of HBO. Max a big part of it is. Hbo and so our mandate is to figure out. Okay what do they do and then what can we do that complements? So we don't want to do things that overlap with HBO and then looking at their audience. Makeup it was okay. What don't they have so they have some kids and family but it's not a focus. So now we're it's a big focus for us. They don't tend to skew younger and while they're pretty balanced with men and women watching I would say they lean a little bit more male than female so for us really leaning into female and younger skewing content was key and And that was helpful and also they don't really do reality. Tv They do amazing documentaries But when it comes to lifestyle stuff and competition shows that's not what they do so looking for things that we could really you know go big with and and so that was that felt like something that we were all on the same page on from the beginning that Sarah and Kevin made very clear you know we we wanna you know we want to create our own identity And be broad but.

Wow your two thousand and fifteen remember. That was a pretty big and you ran there We are all over the place today. And now we're going to higher education. Virginia Hoffler rates As a professor at a public university. I am of course concerned as I watched institution after institution faculty and many colleges are predicted to close. What do you think the impact will be on the US economy? Many cities and towns rely on colleges for employment and economic activity most states benefit in measurable ways from the Universities. They host national are indeed is linked to Major University. Labs what happens when these institutions start disappearing? And let's think about who's going to disappear right and I commend to everybody's attention piece by Scott Galloway but I can't leave my fingers on right now but he talks about the future of higher education and it is grim grim grim right but the ones that are going to go away. They're not the stanfords they're not the UCLA'S RIGHT. They are the Middle Grade Private Liberal Arts colleges which are strapped for cash in really good times and now have to figure out how to pursue their mission with less tuition revenue and students not coming and all of that. It's going to be really really hard now. I can hear you googling here you duck I am. I found it well. What's so interesting? He talks about. It's almost the exact same thing that we were saying on yesterday show. We talked about ghost restaurants and then goes retail stores and he actually says that a handful of what are referred to in this story New York magazine Elite Cyborg. Universities end up monopolising higher education. Like Oh my God. We've hit upon three makes a trend. We have a whole ghost economy developing here. You're thinking at all. We didn't seriously think about delaying. The service beyond. Maybe I don't know a couple of days of of thinking we thought. Is it somehow be disingenuous to have a new service? This come to market at this moment. Can We? Can we physically get finished and quickly realized that? Hey we could be. In fact as we saw people with a growing desire to watch more content from home we thought well. This might be actually the perfect thing to offer to people at this moment in time. Not Knowing how long it would it would go so it was just a couple of days of of really thinking through Ken. We totally execute it. And as I said before all systems go and unequivocal front. They have a completely different business model and product that we do and I look I know they have been having some challenges getting this penetrated because it was designed it. Was you know literally designed to be for people on the run ago and they're dealing with that no doubt that they will meet challenge for us. It's a is is different products and as I said before ideal for you to have you know at home with family or with loved ones and not have to worry about. You know venturing out into the world and you get new stuff for stuff. It's new to you to watch. So that's that's an easy s do you. Do you think that quickies problem is their format and the phone idea or or it's the stuff they were asking us to watch A. We're investors in Quebec. And I really them to win so I think it's probably more you know the issue of what the world is going through Have a lot of great stuff to offer an you know. Hollywood has really rallied twitty. And there's great shows by lots of people. Some of whom are are good friends of mine. So we're really rooting for them. To to succeed was a politics answer. You used to run. Nbc entertainment before that. You ran showtime as you were running those two companies. We're watching the ascent of Netflix. And I'm if you time travel back. Did you understand what Netflix was doing? And sort of the threat to establish media they were they were going to pose at the time or did you not see it. I would say yes another one by the way. I'm not sure they did by on the no you know we. We did all sell our greatest content to them now. We've benefited greatly. They pay handsomely time when other revenue streams were drying up like syndication so it made great sense and we didn't think that it would penetrate to the degree it would nor did we think the world would be moving in this direction except there are some really bright men who did forsee that Peter. Turning in soccer and put together a little service called who which was specifically designed to go direct to the consumer with broadcast television content right so and of course they brought Disney and quickly at the beginning of that process and CBS chose to stay out for their own reasons. But I will say you know simultaneously. We sold a lot of library content to net flicks but but at the same time guilt service for the broadcast networks. At least to bring their contact direct to consumer and then over the coming years the world changed and I think the smartest companies woke up and said why we should be doing this ourselves direct to consumer and instead of letting a third party do it who is still exists. And it's now been the ownership has changed a bit but we've benefited greatly from Hulu at NBC. Over those years and from death looks a few years ago I was on the bandwagon and NBC. Saying we need to go. Direct consumer separate from blue and bring all that content back from Netflix's or stop selling Netflix's and that didn't take root as quickly as I hoped it would and I was really thrilled to get the opportunity to do this in the water company. But you know. I don't think we'll be back on this. We will think that it was the greatest result for our businesses that we let Netflix. Become this behemoth and then try to catch up to them in the meantime by the way. I also think that there's room for three or four or five of these services in anyone's you know given personal bundle of s Bahn Services and Netflix's great. I love IT I. I'm a fan as a consumer so more power to them and we want to be there to the Disney and along with Amazon and So you know. We're not crying over spilt milk. But we're just in a catch up phase which were working really hard and quickly to me. Yeah I I still think. It's one of the most amazing business stories in a long time. Where Willing Wittingly or unwittingly you and Netflix's trained everyone to watch your best stuff on their platform Without commercials and on-demand turns up people loved it anything else that that history is informing. Now that you're chasing after Netflix we are. We built this up now. We got to go after the the only thing I'll say of course it's really self serving is that I really believe that at the end of the day I don't know if that's ten years now going forward and looking back though the real winners will be the platforms of the services that know how to deliver the best content. That sounds really obvious. And a no brainer and maybe it is at but I think we will have an advantage Disney web advantage and putting air quotes around advantage. Obviously Netflix is is wildly successful pound for pound show for show dollar put in to build content versus upside coming out. The winners will be the companies that have been creating content for fifty sixty seventy one hundred years. And that's what we bring to the table with Warner brothers. Hbo AND AND CNN enter. Because there is this thing going on with Netflix's right now where they're putting up content that you didn't know you want her to see. Isn't that good and it draws huge numbers like Spencer confidential. It's a Mark Wahlberg movie. That looks like a not very good. I saw very good And that that's solely as sort of a function of their size right. They can push this out to two hundred million people and half of them will watch it and it sounds like what you're arguing is like eventually like capacity to tell stories and that history of knowing how to make this stuff we'll we'll we'll help you catch up. Yeah and agreed and I would add that. We are and we've talked about this a lot. We're trying to be a curated service. Which means ten thousand hours as opposed to forty or fifty or seventy thousand hours of our competitors and for that. I think the consumer will appreciate that. We have done them a service in eliminating the thirty or forty thousand hours of stuff that you're never going to watch and you're never gonna find the platform anyway. We know this of you know the top one hundred titles drive fifty percent of of the usage a hundred titles so there's forty thousand hours to drive the rest of the usage we're trying to you know slice a lot of that way and hopefully people will come to know that you know more often than not when you're searching through our platform you're gonna find something you like or one wash versus you know all of the constant rolling through of content that you have to do to get to the things like I know you love all your content equally. They're all your children. You love them all equally your content saying it but what show or movie. That's coming out that I haven't seen that's going to be on instagram. Max Are you most excited about well other Max originals. We have a really a really beautifully done. New Show called love life which is starting at a Kendrick and produced by Paul Vegan. Anna which has a real voice I think to it at a at a vision and it's about a young woman her love life. But it's not just week-to-week exploits. It really intense votes tries to show you her entire love life from her first series relationship to you know her eventually finding the love of her life and which takes several years so compressed timeframe is really interesting. It's a bit of a love letter to New York City. Also which I'm I'm happy about and I just think it will have a real authentic southbound to a younger audience and you know not to overlook the HBO content which is part and parcel of this platform. There's an extraordinary new complete reboot of Perry Mason coming this summer with matthew reasons just going back to the original you know tone of the novels and then this extraordinary thing called lovecraft. Country Jordan appeals production company excited about simultaneously really interesting social comment on race to some degree but also a scary thrill ride and the. Combo has J.J. Abrams companies well. The condo of that. I think is really going to be arrested. Plus we have. I don't know I can go on forever but we also have do patrol coming. Which is you know this great. Dc Universe show this moving into HBO. Max We have Redo Ridley Scott's raised by wolves coming which is just unlike her one. Good you didn't mention. The Snyder Cut Justice League so I think half of our audience will be very well versed in Snyder and the rest of the Google it but this is sort of a almost apocryphal. A movie and you guys are going to come out with the new cut of Justice League next year. When did you decide you were going to do that? It's almost a running joke. The Snyder went release. The Steiner Steiner ever decided to release it. When did you make that call? Well it's been months of discussions with with Zach and the producers to figure out how to do it because it isn't as easy as just going into the vault and there's a snyder cut sitting there to put out it does not exist. There's not exist back is is actually building it. And it's complex including I don't WanNa get too much detail that we've already talked about yet but new effect shots and it's radical rethinking of that of that movie and it's complicated and and wildly expensive which is of course a number. I won't quote but I've seen twenty million and thirty million so I'm assuming around that. Yeah I wish it was just thirty and stop there but it's an enormous undertaking and very complex. We had to get you know we had to go to the to the unions. Get certain things clear with them about what we're doing. Is THE SNYDER. Cut a new movie or is that a is that a Rica. There's lots of complexity that the fan doesn't know about and we weren't just sitting around going. Let's not talk to those fans for as long as we can. Let's drive them crazy. We were actually spending a lot of time trying to figure out how to do this. And there's many many hurdles to jump over and the once we've that we could do it all and figuring out the right economics which was literally within the last week we said all right. Let's get this news out there because you. This wasn't something we were sitting on it for months. And this is a great way to have a you know pre blotch popped up. We were really trying. We were trying very hard to be able to announce it before the launch. Because we knew it would be very well received but we started talking about it. I'M GONNA say in last fall seriously. Now I was asking Kevin. Your guy that I was talking to sneaky last fall and someone saying you should have asked John stanky about the Snyder cotton. I said I'm I don't think the COO at and T. abuse the Snyder guys. No no no everyone who works at Warner media is very aware. The Snyder get informed Somebody flew a plane over the warner brothers. Lot of a few months ago the set releases night cabinet. It's like wow I mean I I wanNA believe that wasn't Zach Snyder. Who was blind play? But but you know it's crazy and were excited part of what we need to do with. His new platform is bring Big Events to it and the friends reunions the big event. I'm sorry not to have it on day one but I've I'll be thrilled to have it in in the next few months and next year we have to do more and more of that. In addition to all the many many things that we're doing you got a lot of work to do. I will let you go. Thank you for taking time and putting up with my tech problems thank you. I'm I will see you as a proud. Hbo Mac Subscribers Soon Right. I'm already an HBO subscriber so yes. Excellent excellent.
