Experience look, but the thing about I the one thing I learned from that. When you it's somebody calls, you a name and you laugh with them, then they see that. It doesn't have that much power over, you know. So that's how you handled it. You just laughed tried. You know, it hurt. But it was fine. I had you know horse. I had good friends. I I had my hotter horse horse. That's all I really cared about. So I was happy. All right found ways to be happy. Twenty-seven-year-old year old guy from Louisiana named Hayward. Oh, they turned on his Cochlear implant his boyfriend proposed to him. Oh, you're Hayward was already pretty emotional from getting his hearing back. So it made him even more emotional, but he held it together. Pretty well. He said he was basically in shock one second. He could hear clicking sounds than the next Carrie was talking about the journey they'd been on and how he wanted to them to be together. Forever. Kerry, eventually got down on one knee with a ring and Hayward said yes, so looking at February of next year for the wedding. How exciting. Boys, louisiana. Yeah. All right. Yeah. Louisiana is gay marriage legal in Louisiana is it legal everywhere. Now, if legal everywhere now is it legal everywhere. Thanks. So like made it legal. I don't know. What do I know? You'd think it would be he would especially after hearing a fun and a love story like that. Poor guy Madden losing your hearing. Devastate which one's the one with the Cochlear implant. Sure what? "Thousand nineteen qualifying tournament at a place called the g. l. h. f game bar. So there's some conflicting reports. But at the time of this recording, it appears that at least two people were killed and nine others shot and taken to the hospital in serious or critical condition champs. So pretty fucked up. God damn sporting Eastport convention. You know, you're playing Madden. Dan people start shooting at you. The last place you think a gun is going to come out, right? It was one guy according to several sources, police ID the shooter as Mike Rowe, penis. That's not his name. We will never say the shooter's names on hard factor. Fuck that guy. So what micro peanuts do he was? He was a gamer from Maryland who was competing in the tournament. He lost. So he got mad that he lost in the stupid Madden tournaments, and he got a handgun with the laser sight and started shooting everyone including the person that beat him so much had beaten this behavior out of him by twelve. Yeah, tough shit. You lost a gay man. Go fucking smoke a cigarette outside playing this guy Madden like of a beer. He's literally shoots people over. Can you imagine like before the Tournant when you're at his house? Just like he's training with France? Was he friends? No friends. Okay. Copy. Desisto friend. That's true. Good point. Professional sports athlete nineteen year old young dreamy was grazed in the thumb but made it out almost completely unscathed. Hey, got to a safe spot and sort of tweeting. And after the shooting, he tweeted and said, I will never take anything for granted ever. Again, life can be cut short in a second. So he's probably just going to play like one less our video games today or. Yeah, like grazed in the thumb for someone like this. That's like being a porn star and losing your dick, that's like Mandingo losing his. Yeah. Bad injury, joke about things like that. Actually, it's the opposite though. I think this means he's going to go harder because it's dudes a programmer. So like maybe that's that's what he's saying, but don't take life for granted. He's gonna game harder tweeted tweeted from his mother's basement. Yeah, there goes sleep at his house. Facebook had a shitload of things to say, 'cause this was a huge story and everyone's going nuts over this Quinny Spencer says, this is crazy. I have family Jacksonville, so I have family in Jacksonville, Texas. When he likes crazy, likes to make it about herself. She's like, she's like seven degrees separated from this thing and she just wants to comment on the fact that she knows people in Florida. I ate it that restaurant one time. Right, exactly. Where Madden before could have been me when I when I ate it, that restaurant, you wouldn't believe. But there was a mad and commercial on TV. I've seen a gun. I've seen an angry white kid. Thank God beeline queenie anyway to go make makes about herself the fucking idiot. Charles Elias also said, I suppose those who want increased gun control laws slash. Banning of certain weapons will not want to ban video games. Let the debate begin. That's another. That's another scholar right there. What is Charles talking about? Why didn't he just stop it at the gun control? It wasn't a shooting game..

"Much more tied into something personal right it was outside of the realm of sports it was something deeply flawed about this person as, a human being Michael Jordan yeah he left. And went. And played baseball for a little bit and then came back and. Did more of this, yeah Michael Jordan gave us Space, Jam the initial time around the Jordan brand of sneakers is still as relevant as anything that exists but there's just. Something, I feel like what happened. With tiger encompasses more of sports pop culture life than a lot of things we, deal with them those athletes even Francesco Molinari, I'm? Just not, gonna stop saying it as big as I can The champion you know even the champion had to acknowledge tiger's playing with tiger was another challenge because of the of the crowds and everything but I. Really do this morning when. I came here I was I was ready for for the challenge Conscious that you could have gone either way but I knew I was gonna do my best today Everyone's still acknowledges that president as much as we you know we, heard from Rory before saying that guys don't fear. Him the way that Ernie and VJ and, fill and those guys his. Peers on the tour did and I think that's natural to an extent but they're still this realization and I really wish I could, remember who it was that was playing with tiger earlier in the weekend in the tournament that said, this is very strange me playing with a guy that I watched when I was eleven years old doing these unbelievable things trying not to talk to him too much. Trying not to go over the top with my phantom here because that was a very real, presence there's going to be varying amounts of that for everyone else, because the listen being, a, pro I remember sitting across from drew breeze at breakfast and, saints camp and I was like man what. The, hell am I doing sitting, next to this guy the guys that do well in. The throes, conversely look. At you and say what the hell are, you doing sitting next to me I mean he could he could see right through, me because he he probably knew the cuts that were Already there. But the guys that last long in these respective, professions of, the guys that are just better to that and say all right well I'm here to beat you but, there's a piece of Jordan when you talk about. What athletes in in my lifetime have we, gotten the most run out. Of not just as is athletes but also is Brandon Basler and social impact essentially like Jordan's are still tennis shoes you spend too, much money on right I mean that that's the logo of Jordan is still something that you will, spend too much not just you but you would collective society will spend too much cash on its own fashion line it's its own peace still still touching the world. Today tiger doesn't have as much as we talked about the tiger red you're not going to, see you don't see some random kid in the middle of anywhere, you know clamoring for, their, opportunity to wear tiger polo but in the world of golf, listen for a long time in a world. That, doesn't usually have a lot, of guys with their own brand identities the way we. See in, the NBA. All the time or in the NFL sometimes, you saw that Tiger Woods Brandon golfing In conjunction with Nike became a very noticeable part of that world hell the video game we judge so much, off video games the popularity of soccer judged by the popularity of fee guys Madden. Ratings we asked for NCWA game to come back all. The time Tiger Woods golf was a video game that took the. Gulf world by storm he is synonymous with golf's representation in that particular field so there, was a, significant cultural impact on that the same way, there is a significant cultural impact, for this weekend in the tournament Devon wants to tell us about Francesco won the whole thing I heard about that..

"Experiments loans will be at the bottom. So look. And if you if you ain't all the beach boys songs Kokomo is dead last because it's the worst song and human history. This is I had a moment recently. Apparently my son, my wife had to text me about this that there is a ice cream truck playing Kokomo. My son turned her said, what's the song? This is a good song. It cut me to the quick. Anyway. So you're seeing credible to a little bit of sequel Itis. But otherwise, strongest thing is the action sequences, Brad bird knows is doing. And its owner. Worth seeing though super were seeing a superhero movie right Elliot, giving a giving other plan giving us VERA fun. It's superb. All. I mean, there are other words than super high flying or something like that. Gotcha. Yeah, that was the whole world is my sandbox. Very much. Okay. What are you recommend? I'm gonna go the opposite route and I'm gonna do something a little different for me in recommend an old movie. So I recently rushed watched a movie called the purchase price from nineteen thirty two. It's Barbara Stanwick movie from this period. When in the early thirties, when Barbara Stanek was making these kind of super short movies about women forced to kind of find their own way in the world and this movie, she's a like, she's a singer in a club who is dating a mobster, but engaged to a rich heir to a rich family. When the air finds out, she's been dating this mob shoe breaks up with the mobster. The air finds out. She's been dating mobster and dumps her, and the mobster wants get back together with her. So she wants to escape. And she runs off and through series of events becomes the mail order bride of a wheat farmer out in the country and has to deal with suddenly being in this strange position where she is married to a man that she doesn't really know. And also the man starts to doubt she, he's. Expects her when she doesn't give herself to him on the first night and he so she has to figure out how does she win his trust back also, does she want to be there? And eventually it all hinges on whether his new weet strain that he has been breeding, whether they can successfully cultivate enough to same. Save the farm from the Bank and its movie is seventy minutes long, and it has so much random plot in it. And Barbara stanwyck is great in it, and it's a William Wellman. So they're sequences that look fantastic. There's just a lot of interesting shots in it, but it feels like I'm a big fan of guy Madden and it feels like the kinds of movies guy Madden is drawing a lot where the plot does not follow a straight line. It is all over the place and it is more like it's almost more like a sequence of of scenes or moments that are only tenuously connected in some ways in ending is so abrupt and the emotions are so strange, the man she becomes married to is such a jerk, and she becomes so devoted to him. And that's the one thing I found really prob..

"Brand new pearl jam joking if you haven't seen the film to that's from that's pretty hypnotizing piece of music little mindbending he kind of make you feel dizzy that piece of music is from vertigo the classic alfred hitchcock film which was this romantic thriller all about obsession and fear of heights vertigo turns sixty this year and now the person across from me has created a sort of a no mosh to the film guy madden is a canadian director who's reimagined vertigo and a pretty ambitious way scouring through hours of footage of films and tv shows shot in san francisco where vertigo took place but just television shows films just not vertigo clipping out hundreds and hundreds of shots pacing them together and sort of creating a recreation of vertigo in the collage that he calls the green fog and just like that kind of piece of music you hurt it's mindbending hypnotize ing it's dizzying and to give you an idea of how and why he pulled it all together guy madden joins me now live in the q studio hi hey thanks for having me on tom nice to have you microphones real low so i i know this wasn't originally going to be a reimagining of vertigo you're just gonna make a montage for san francisco should mention it's very important i i worked now with my partners in a winnipeg based filmmaking collective called development limited gaylon johnson and johnson their brothers and we made this together but it started with when noah colonies to be one of the directors of tiff here in toronto and who's moved onto the san francisco international.

"This jack palance in the nineteen fifty two film sudden fear repurpose four guy madden's vertigo reimagined nation the green fog mystery place in you do not be always turning up your holes or with plo shows examination keep a place in your heart for the unexpected guest alter how the unknown gone keep a place in your heart for the unexpected guest and alter for the own known god guy man this was the manifesto kind of was because unlike spans aunts notorious or famous shot by shot remake of psycho we were we couldn't recreate shots exactly because we were using we were repurposing footage that are existed in a lot of cases what we found instead were you fhimah sims for scenes in vertigo and by the way you don't need to have seen vertigo or even be familiar with it i think to watch get a sense although i had the wikipedia article for vertigo open while i was watching it i will encourage everyone in the theatre to open up there baid their faces in light and mass kapiti along with the movie no i think there's there's even though the male protagonist the one played by jimmy stewart in the movie is played by something like sixty different men in this movie it's a real orgy of discontinuity there is a there is a flow to it and you can tell who the male protagonist is and and same with the female protagonist played by kim novak she's just constantly being swapped gina lollobrigida for doors day for you know god knows who and and the jimmy stewart characters played by sometimes by michael douglas sometimes by carl mauldin sometimes tony france llosa john saxon and there's wide stretches because we found a mother lode of material by going into television in the streets of san francisco and this nighttime soap starring james brolin from the eighties called hotel in which like an eighteen year old sarah jessica parker appears.

"Just when seemed totally reluctant to use him based on the shaky month that he had with the cubs sin so he just kind of languished on the back of the roster and then got replaced in this series by hector unknown who is another guy madden has fallen out of faith with it at points and so i think you know now he seems to like brain dancing at i note he doesn't really have a a shutdown option in the way that the dodgers doer that the yankees doer that the indians did so it's a little harder to manage this bullpen and really this rotation than it is for a lot of teams but it has not been very pretty to see him try to get the ball from the starter to wait davis and you know i think a lot of the blamed though obviously has to lie with the cubs offense or i guess you could say their opponents pitching but it's been a very weak offensive performance by the cubs this october and with the exception of nld s came five when they just eat doubt that one run win but scored nine runs they haven't scored more than what three in any other game they've scored two and one in the first two games this division series they had scored ciro two three and three in the other four games the division series soaked banana allows he several games for the cubs lineup yep and i guess if you are a cubs fan who's panicking first of all kit over yourself you just when the world series second of all don't forget that last year and the nlcs the cubs one game one eight two four and then they got shut up two games in a row him all the talk was about how the cubs had forgotten how hidden all of a sudden it at the match and you know if you get shut out in game started by clayton kirch on richil i think that economic sense what he can take a step back and after the cubs were blanked in consecutive games they scored 10 runs than eight runs than five runs and they won three straight games against the dodgers and won the series went on to the world series which they won.

"Barram my eight hour that guy at josh fields as says pitched k tony watson is a turned out to be trustworthy to my mild surprise a night in these playoffs so like did it just their darken killed in the middle innings and the cubs just don't have that right now they're the barrett a moment were john lackey's coming out of the bullpen old asked john lackey's calendar for the highest leverage uh you know highest leverage abacha the game so it's really stupid database hall serious can come down to who has the you know who's 9th 10th 11th best pitchers are better by a did ditches doesn't happen that way and other sports but it's just how baseball works in yards introduces a lot of the the weirdness that is why we love it so what should yes and an madden seems to have rarely lost faith in in some cases i'll just get a law that the fought hump the but like yeah i mean he made the swap of of taking justin wilson off the roster he was on the lds roster and it just seemed like madden was not gonna go to him for any kind of important situation so why was even there and madden made the change to swap him out in favor of hector rondo in who has been another guy madden has lost faith in it at various times greater enough he took the loss game on yeah and you know getting another ready in there maybe was uh a good thing especially with segar out as it happens and.
