"Influence of one of Halloween's most well known icons. The mask. Which also appeared in tandem with another unfortunate Halloween tradition, destructiveness. Beggars on All Hallow's Eve guzzled their share of alcohol demands for food and drink became a bit threatening. Masks helped hide their identities in Britain. They got into some very particular forms that involve dressing and costumes and going house to house to present these plays on at the end of the performance, they would be rewarded with food and sometimes a money by the early 16th century. The Catholic Church was undergoing enormous changes on Halloween day in 15 17 exactly 500 years ago. Christian revolutionary Martin Luther nailed his famous 95 feces to the door of the Wittenberg Castle church attacking Catholic dogma. By launching the Protestant Reformation. Luther changed the face of Christianity and Halloween forever. He rejected all those symbols that stood between worshippers and God, including Popes, priests and saints. So when Saints went out of favour, so did all Saints Day. And, of course, all Hallow's Eve. But the holiday was too popular to go away completely. In 17th century England. These customs survived on ly in rural areas, but thanks to a Catholic militant named Guy, Fox. They would soon turn up in the city streets. Ah, November 5th 16 05 Fox tried to blow up the Protestant dominated house of Lords with 36 kegs of gunpowder. His plan was to assassinate King James the first and restore a Catholic monarch to the throne. Fox was tried found guilty. And hanged. And according to legend, his body was then drawn and quartered, and the pieces were thrown into a fire next year on the anniversary of the failed plot, and the years following London's Children and adults mocked the memory of Guy Fawkes by causing chaos in the streets, parading begging building bonfires. Today in England, This is called Guy Fawkes Day. For Bonfire Night custom that has evolved over the centuries in England is the Children to make effigies of Guy Fawkes and then Guy thoughts is burnt on a bonfire. They spend several weeks prior to November, 5th. With their dummies and asking people for a penny for the guy that's begging tradition, not unlike trick or treating in its own way. But would this pagan celebration make its way across the Atlantic to disrupt the sanctuary of the new world? For the Bible, Believing Puritans of New England, the supernatural was a dark, menacing force. Not Ah, harmless superstition worthy of a yearly holiday observance. They considered Halloween to pagan and two Catholic Protestants of being rebels broke away from the Church of England because they believed it was too Catholic. And they left England for the colonies for this reason, and so they didn't want to carry anything with them that had to do with Catholicism's and Halloween was something that had to do with Catholicism's By the mid 19th Century, America was primed for a much darker holiday. Having endured four long years of civil war that ended in 18 65 with over a half a million dead. There were so many Unclaimed, unknown dead bodies that the civil war left behind that this country was obsessed with death on mostly it was that so many of these soldiers died. Unknown way don't know what happened to them, so there was a huge sense of they could come back. Maybe they're not dead. It makes perfect sense that people would tell more ghost stories and the very first Halloween ghost stories were about people coming back home. It's at this time America's Halloween story begins. "Get to so let's hit the hot notes. Hot Notes. All right, so do have a lot of breaking news today about the president knowing and more importantly knowing now and not doing anything about Russian bounties paid the Taliban to murder, US and coalition forces in Afghanistan and joining me today to talk about it is former federal and state, prosecutor and CNN, legal analyst l. e., Hoenig Ellie. Thanks for joining me today. Thank you for having me this. This is a mind blower. I mean there's been a lot of things that have happened during this administration that have been shocking. The the word stunning gets overused, but but it's appropriate, but this one. I'm having a hard time sort of mentally digesting it, and it's interesting to me that one of the questions I get asked a lot through my CNN viewer inbox is. Can you impeach the president more than once now that they already tried once. Is that in the answer? I think is legally. Yes, but but politically it's really difficult, but God Almighty I mean if this proves out. It's ten times worse than Ukraine. Yeah, it would be the only thing I agreed with Bolton on. Because apparently, he knew about this, and when he said that the the the Democrats was to focused too narrowly on Ukraine. You know what would have been great though is if you fuck and told them but anyway. She John Only one was national security advisor could have done something about it. Another mark of shame for this coward. Fuck his book. All right so so today trump tweeted that the Russia bounty story is made up fake news and a hoax, and that the secret source by the way that reminds me of secret sauce, which is funny. The secret source probably doesn't exist. And, here's the thing in two thousand seventeen. He sided with Putin. In our own intelligence agencies, and he's doing it again and like we've. We've seen this reporting. There may be disagreements in the within the intelligence community, but not about the information and the reporting that we have now is showing that NATO was briefed. Everyone in the world was briefed. You know everyone was briefed Gina. Hospital Sad, but trump is like I wasn't. And I mean how can you? That's just a weird. Defense so I've been trying to puzzle through what the various defenses here are, or could be or have been, and so I've been able to identify a couple, two or three main strains of defense, right the original, the original defense out of the White House was he was, the president was never briefed, and the word brief seemed to be doing a lot of work there. How are you defining brief meeting? Somebody never sat down and explained to him. It was never in his book. Is Briefing Book? But that odd because if he was never briefed on it, then head should be rolling immediately failed to brief him I mean Susan Rice said I think. compellingly, she said if I got this kind of I would barged into the Oval Office, so I was never briefed. If that was the case, head should've rolled, and he should've taken. Immediate action made an immediate statement as soon as he learned, and said I didn't know of this now. I know this is an outrage. We will be coming down hard on Russia. Okay, no such thing happened. Then it sort of went. Then there was more reporting out there that he in fact was brief. There's been reporting that there was something in his briefing book in I? Think, February twenty seventh now. Does he read his briefing book? I think people who work inside the White House and said, of course, not i. have this image of like you know how there's this whole thing we're drag. Queens go to read children's stories to kids at the library. Imagine like divine like with a picture book in Oval Office like. Look he is. Now this Russia. You got to pay into Russia and I. Just I would I would love to see that sketch played out on Saturday night live, but yeah I. Even you're right. who wasn't O'Brien said today? That a see. It was a CIA official career official who decided against briefing the president because it was not credible. Intel what. So that that's another evolution in the defense which is I, guess number three, which is there was Intel, but there was some decision made that it was not credible not to brief him on, and then, and then the defense before as usual, the president's tweets is providing even more confusion where he says that's all fake news. Hopes hope so i. mean you knew he'd get their fake news hoax source that quote you read, so we've been offered four different stories, all sort of each one inconsistent in some respect with the other three, and it's hard to know where the truth lies I suspect some somebody on understood that. It would put the president in a bad situation other words that they wanted to maintain some sort of plausible deniability, because like you said he always seems to take Putin side and the relationship that it reminds me of. The trump to Putin is almost in a weird way. As Bill Bar is to trump, and here's what I mean by that. You have someone who claims in both cases. Trump's to Putin and Barda trump who claims no. No I don't do that. Person's bidding I. I, don't I'm not you know subservient to that person I? Don't do things to please that person yet. Every single move they make serves that person's insurance than is subservient to that person. Right I mean every single thing bill bar does is in Donald. Trump's best interest and it seems every move trump bakes is in. Putin's best interests, so what's going on? Is this just a cosmic? Freak. Situation where if you flip the coin a hundred times you got a hundred heads in a row or are these people trying to serve some? Some higher. Higher Higher calling here. So I'm very suspicious of that and I. mean the only feasible way here that he didn't know is is if if he wasn't briefed isn't because it wasn't credible. Intelligence because we wouldn't have briefed the five is, we wouldn't have brief. briefed the universe, if if it was not credible at least something that needed to be briefed, so the only feasible thing I can think of is that the intelligence community kept it from him to protect him from siding with. Putin, again after having three marines killed last April a month after he was supposedly had a discussion about it with Bolton. So. That's the only because that was my first thought. Maybe they didn't tell him because. He's, he's in bed with Putin. That would be like I could see somebody at the. Boy Do we tell him He's he because otherwise it's. He's going to be an idiot. It could be right. I mean there. There could well be a distrust of the president. We've heard from several military leaders who who had served on the president just in the last few months, saying they basically had no faith in his abilities and loyalty. Yeah, but now that I think about it. That's not really a feasible situation. Because the intelligence community doesn't decide to brief or not brief based on whether or not, the president will act correct correctly. You know right right, right? Here's one of my questions though I mean. How I think through how we ever get answers on this, okay? Obviously, the media has a very important role to play. Here already has played a very important role. The problem is the president will just continue to to essentially flip the chessboard. You know just try to confuse things and just say hoax hoax false fake news fake news fake news, which doesn't. It's frustrating because that's just the muddy the waters defense. and. DOJ shirts, hells, and going to do anything about it now with bill in charge, so Congress really has a job here. They have something they have to dig in and I get that. The timing is not great politically because we're right on the verge of an election. But you have four months and change until this election so again. Not Do your and by the way, shouldn't this one fall? Thank goodness not to Jerry Nadler Judiciary Adam Schiff in Intel. Shouldn't I mean it seems to me like that would be where the jurisdiction what's? Where's Nancy Pelosi and where Adam Schiff and maybe maybe they are intending to do something here and I have way more faith in the capacity and ability of Adam Schiff to do something meaningful here, certainly than I do with Nadler but on the other hand, if shift does start dropping subpoenas, he will get resistance, and it's going to be tough for him to get into court and get get decisions. On Short order, but how can Congress not go full? Bore into this? Yeah, yeah, and that's kind of what I, what I want. When O'Brien came out today and said that there was a CIA career official that made the decision that made..

"Ooh I like that one again is no. He could possibly know what show. We're going to be talking about tonight at that Khloe. You gave his home bag listening to the show OV- egg Today we're talking talking about a legendary TV series from the eighties. Legend has it that the head of NBC television programming Brandon Tartikoff was brainstorming. One day and he wrote down a memo that simply red. MTV COPS WHO said he later presented it to series creator. Anthony Yerkovich who was formerly writer and producer for Hillstreet Blues there at NBC. And you're rich himself. had been taking a look into a cop drama. That focused on an interesting concept. He he learned that the forfeited assets of drug dealers. We're able to be used by law enforcement agencies. They could confiscate the property of drug drug dealers and use it for official use so they got to use all the cool cigarette boats and all the cards cars and the boats and all that kind of stuff and he thought that was an interesting wrinkle so they put those two things together and he turned out a script. Free Two Hour TV movie pilot called Gold Coast. It was set in south Florida in the Miami the area so as you can probably guessed by now they changed the title of that show here. Is Al from the army asking for today's TV. To Hey Ryan Paul all cattle from Al Pacino. TV to Tuesday towards for my friend. Miami vice with sunny tubs and Sunny and tubs I guess. Yes and the intro song. The girl with the Nice booty in the Bikini. Oh Man in fact memories anyways Ah My suggestion Tuesday love. You mean it by yeah. I love that girl Moody to it is of course Miami Vice unlike any a other standard police drama ever really did change the landscape television at the time it was unheard of. No one had ever seen cops in in that format I in that style using those fancy boats and those cars and dressing like that Miami was a fresh landscape as opposed the cities like New York and Chicago in Los Angeles Been Minded devontae cop dramas. It was really very much of the eighties influenced by eighties. New Wave Culture and Music Nick and music became a huge part of that show of course They borrowed heavily from songs of the day instead of coming up with scored music. He was like that was created by a composer just for the TV show. They would go out of their way. Every episode sometimes spending up to ten thousand dollars or more per episode Dubai rights for original recordings to play play on that show it was like. MTV would hear hits of day on that show and you weren't hearing that on any other television show on network television. Here's some of the artists who had their songs featured on on Miami Vice throughout it's a run on television. Roger Daltry Duran Duran Power Station devaux SINEAD O'Connor Jackson Browne. Kate Bush Bush Meat Loaf Phil Collins or Phil Collins. legendarily had that in the air tonight seem rather driving that that I think it was a corvette really slowly at night down through the center of Miami Beach. Awesome moment Bryan Adams were just talking about him. Tina Turner Peter Gabriel Pink Floyd's Z.. Top the tubes dire straits Depeche Depeche mode the hooters iron maiden. Alan Parsons Project Corey. Hart Glenn Fry you to. Frankie goes to Hollywood farner the police Ted nugent billy idol suicidal tendencies. The list goes on and on. They spent a fortune on me. They had a hugh currie using budget because they had to pay for the rights to put those show up and now but it started to flip because at one point the show became so popular. That the The Music publishing houses were coming to the producers saying. Would you put our song in your show. Can't give a huge Bob exactly at the listenership of a record would be enormously honestly increased just by being featured on Miami vice started to turn songs into hit songs versus barring hit songs for their television program Lot of celebrities musicians even guests on the show Phil Phil Collins was an actor on the show Glenn Fry Willie Nelson a Sheena Easton Glorious Stefan Gene. Simmons even stopped by and of course the theme song was equally legendary Agean dairy in fact a single version of that song was released and it hit the number one spot on the billboard. Hot One hundred Yon Hammer was the name of the Composer for that show. Not only did he do theme song but he did. All that distinctive synthesized instrumental music for the entire show he was. He scored the show as as well. They came knocking in the fall of nineteen ninety. Eighty four excuse me nineteen eighty-four and the producers asked him if he could not only score the series but come up with a catchy theme James Song to capture the excitement of Miami beach and the cop show they were putting together he sure did come up with it. Here is Yon Hammers Miami Vice theme.

The Roth report subscribed today so you don't miss a thing already now. It's time to take a look at all the entertainment news in a segment. I call the show Biz. Beat eight Seth Meyers has a new comedy. Special premiering today on net flicks comedy specials. Any news about on special. I was talking to them last week. Coming on Amex people and I should be hearing something back this week paperwork wise outstanding. So we'll see. We'll keep you posted. Seth Meyers has a Netflix. Special national debut today and because it's on Netflix. They're offering a very special feature that you can only get on net flicks and it's kind of an inside joke between Seth Myers and his audience. And I think it's pretty clever. You know Seth courses the host of late night on NBC and he he is known to make one or two trump jokes yes so when he announced his comedy special he said this was my defense and response. Nice to anyone who would say oh. Let me guess you're going to do a lot of jokes about trump. What they're featuring on Netflix is there will be a button on Netflix? While you're watching that will allow you to skip any joke. Made about trump like their skip intro button when you were Binge Watch a series you have to sit through the intro everytime it'll be in the bottom autumn corner of your screen and you can click on skip joke and it will go past any trump jokes if you happen to be a trump fan and you want to see the special but you don't want to sit through any trump's good. I should let the snowflakes not feeling. That's right it's a safe place. Let's say place for the people don't get triggered by the comedians jokes about the president. So that's that's it's a clever writes. He says he doesn't really expect anyone to use that feature. However because you're tuning into a Seth Meyers comedy special? You're more than likely Not a biggest. Yeah I remember seen his standup he was an improviser in Chicago. Yeah and then a a writer the writer personnel. I actually saw him the night before he got signed by. SNL SNL at Improv Olympic. Here he spent Santa Monica Boulevard. This was like nineteen ninety eight or ninety nine before he literally the week before we got signed finale. He was doing his show. I was on Tauron country. I saw him and he's a great improviser. Never seen who stand up he do you watch later. No I do. He's that is opening monologues and his segments. I think are just spot on the. Yeah he was the best. SNL headline reported the news segment on that show for many he was great. He was one of my favorites for sure. So I'm objects out speaking to television. They are making the equalizer again now. The equalizer used to be a show on. CBS CBS about an old British secret service. Guy Who would Help people who are in trouble. Edward Woodward played the role was really cool show and it was cool to see an older guy. It kicking ass and sort of being a bad ass. You don't see that on. Television gives us right and then they made a feature film version two films with Denzel Washington plane. Oh yeah so now. They're bringing it back to television. And in this reboot Queen Latifah is going to be the equalizer. Okay now. Listen listen I think Queen Latifah is a very talented lady. However I wouldn't think if I was in trouble if I need the eighteen wasn't available and I needed to call? Someone went up for some help. I don't know if Queen Latifah would be my God. I don't know I'd be afraid would you. She seems tough. I guess maybe anyway she will play the equalizer the enigmatic figure who uses her extensive skills and background in espionage to help those who have nowhere else to terms. It's just the pilot. We'll see whether it goes. I saw the first Denzel Washington. It is pretty brutal. Yeah very yeah. I saw the second one to Melissa. Leo is in it and my wife from Red State and equally. It's it's it's not for the faint of heart but Denzel scared. Let's eat through. I mean I think I'd rather have Denzel and Queen Latifah. We could talk things out Latifah. The here's good news talking about the atman movie coming back and my pal Peyton Reed coming back to direct well in the world of comic books. They've just announced that ant man will get his own comic book series for the first time in years he hasn't had a regular series since The conclusion of the astonishing atman series in two thousand sixteen. There's it's been a man and the wasp. Miniseries Marvel put out last year around the same time of the movie but now they're taking the character. Scott Lang's ant man is going to make him. The Star is regular alert comic book there at Marble Not only will it features Scott lying but also his daughter Cassie as featured in the film. She will be sort of the rob into his Batman and they will both be size is shifting heroes fighting against evil. Then it'd be written by a robot. Chicken writer Zev Wells and will be available in comic bookstores everywhere. February of next year to February twenty twenty two pick up ant man number one model does a nice job of their old titles to fit into to get to digest agenda interest for the movie. I don't think enough comic book movies do that. I think comic book movies are so popular and yet sales sales for comic books are still so anemic would be a great way to inject some new life into the industry if you took some of that audience and tried to shepherd them back into the source source material and let kids learn how to read comic books. Yeah I think there has been doing. I think they're doing what the immortals and some of the other ones to. What was the last time you saw kid in a comic books? It's usually dudes my exactly US around looking at a book. When I was a kid? Going in complex stores it was just wall to wall. Okay yeah looks like chucky cheese in there I think Coltman and it's just me and him as a child in an adult. Does he read comic books. The interest the I I pull my old books and he'll the facing rubbed off youtube. He's got stuff smeared all over his face. I mean I. It sound like an old man. Cherie comical homage but I guess you're right it's why they've got too many other choices there are other. There are other entertainments that they find much more interesting than sitting down with an old piece of paper with some pages and leafing through it and that was the ultimate the best excitement. I'm renew issue. A brand new issue of something. Look Mama I'm reading Book Day. Layoff and speaking of my nerdiness. If you look around this bat cave you can tell. I have a weakness for collectors and collecting while there was a big auction. Shen over the weekend. Julien's auctions held an auction on behalf of Olivia Newton John. She is selling off many of her belongings. In fact five hundred different tatum's from her own personal collection to raise money for her breast cancer. Care Charity Sadly Livingston. Jonah's currently in her third battle with the disease so oh she's auctioning off or did auction off this past weekend. Five hundred personal items from her career and the big winner was her skin tight black pants and leather jacket that she wore at the end of Grease as sandy when sandy turns out so tell me about addicts came out smoking coughing or anything else great. He's never had cigarette before. And all of a sudden Jesus 'cause she threw up earlier in the movie because she smoked just that hot. That's why she came out in that little off the shoulder number and the black leather jacket and the skin tight pants. Huge hair dammit. I loved her. I'm not even saying like I had a crush on her. I lusted after I genuinely was in love with Living Newton. John yes this is true. Choose Gorgeous so It's sold at nearly double what they expected to. They thought the The entire outfit pants and jacket were estimated to sell at auction or are two hundred sixty thousand dollars but they ended up going for over four hundred thousand dollars at auction. Yeah the jacket alone when I Two hundred and forty-three the pants for one hundred and sixty two five and it's funny. The pants were actually from the fifties costumers. Got Him from the fifties and she. He said the zipper broke when she was getting dressed for that scene so they literally had to so her into the pants in order for her to perform in which for some reason it makes it even harder other the items that went up for auction was her pink ladies jacket with embroidered. Sandy name on it a signed Greece script from all the cast. And this is what got me. I you can have the grease stuff. Her white cowboy boots from the nineteen eighty film. Xanadu Xanadu as much as well documented documented as my love for a Living Newton. John is my love for the movie. Xanadu is even more. So because Lemme Thais People Scott and say it's a bad movie. I would wager any amount of money that Xanadu is the best film. Ever about a Greek Goddess Satis Muse coming to Earth to get an artist who paints oversized album. Cover art to open his own. Roller disco ever made a bill. Hard to beat you I. I say it's the best one of those movies. Ever with the greatest sound I would buy those cowboy boots and I'll just oh God oh just hustle Jesus would be like Like Dennis Hopper in Blue Velvet. Ruin it for you know Goggle Xanadu. Boot battlegroup certain foods. What did they smell really bad? Right ruin it for right now. That's what I'm saying foot. Not when it's not a win to Libby Newton John's Oh man I can imagine and make it scrape some DNA out offer foot. And I could not get closer. I could clone the whole Libya I get. Get Him Jangle of perfect. I could put a flashlight inside the I I get also cloned my own nineteen eighty Libyan man. I Need Alabama too excited.

"Guy. fawkes sat on a stack of firewood and checked his watch impatiently. It was just barely morning. He had hours left to wait. He stood up paced around the seller and then sat back down again. He should be used to this. He had spent days on end standing watch during his tenure as a soldier in Spain but then he wasn't usually all alone. There was a sudden sound around outside. The door of the storeroom but Fox didn't flinch. Despite the dark and the overpowering chill of the seller. He wasn't one to let his imagination. Origination run away from him as always. He had his mind on only one thing. The liberation of his Catholic countrymen after all. That was what this was all about. He had no desire to overthrow the entire monarchy or takeover the nation. All he wanted Ed along with a dozen other co conspirators was to install a Catholic queen on the English throne then the country could head in the right direction towards salvation rather than toward heresy and intolerance the thoughts made him giddy a Catholic led led. England was almost within his grasp. He ran his fingers through his thick mustache and took the breath. The hard part was over now the gunpowder barrels and barrels of it had already been smuggled into the cellar under the House of Lords. All he had to do now was wait and strike a match. Then the entire building would explode. It would be bloody and certainly some good. Catholics would be killed as well. But it was all in the service of a greater cause the Lord would sort them out Fox fingered the fuses in his pocket and then checked his watch. Again he wished Thomas Percy hadn't given it to him. All it did was make time moves slower. He stood up up yet again and began pacing but he was stopped in his tracks by the sound of the door. He heard several pairs of heavy booted footsteps steps approaching. He could hide but then the powder might be discovered better to stick to his cover. He was a serving man merely tending into his master's stockpile of Firewood Fox composed himself just in time for several courtiers to come into view. He he tried to intercept them by babbling about the sudden interruption but they paid him no mind. They wore the arrogant expressions of the king's men they could do whatever they liked. Several of them began brusquely searching the seller while their leader Thomas Nive it interrogated Fox Wchs Fox gave a fake name and tried to misdirect the investigators but they found the barrels of gunpowder hidden under the firewood or would and bags of coal after that Fox abruptly dropped his act as the courtiers dragged him. Back to the Kings. Private Chamber are naive. It demanded to know what he was doing with so much. Gunpowder Fox told them he intended to blow them all back to Scotland where King James hailed from the men handled Fox roughly after that and confined him to the Chamber while they prepared to question him. Fox Sat in the center of the room red-faced. He had failed Fox turned it all over in his mind. What had given given them away? Had someone gotten cold feet and turned on them maybe he should have ignited the powder as soon as he heard the steps. It wouldn't have killed the king but at least it would have gotten rid of those disgusting sycophantic courtiers. The thought that they were free to roam the halls of the palace wearing their self-satisfied self-satisfied. grins sickened Fox. He should've blown them all sky high and as soon as they came back in he would tell them so heretics at least after he was executed he could approach the pearly gates with confidence whether he set the hall of Lords of flame or not. Not these heathens were bound to meet fire sooner or later. Finally the courtiers reentered the Privy Chamber over this time. They were armed with a list of questions. Direct from the King Himself Fox thought it was a shame. The king hadn't come along to take take a look. He would have ensured. It was the last thing his majesty ever saw the questions began and at first the the courtiers assumed the interrogation would be easy Fox readily cops to planning to blow up parliament and assassinate the king. But when asked to to name his allies and the source of the powder he clammed up nothing they could do would open his mouth after several hours. The king authorized authorized the use of torture. But even then it would take a lot to break guy fawkes coming up. We examine the significance of the capture of Guy Fawkes and the foiling of the gunpowder plot. Hey Friend I wanNA tell you about the new three dollar little John from Jimmy. Johns a skinny mini version of any original sandwich. On November Fifth Sixteen O Five Guy Fawkes was captured in an under Croft oft beneath the House of Lords in London Fox had been guarding thirty six barrels of gunpowder which he planned to ignite later that day in a bid to assassinate King James the first the gunpowder plot as it came to be known was Fox's final attempt to incite a rebellion against against the Protestant king but it wasn't his first though he was an Englishman. He had fought for Spain in the eighty years. War and in the franco-spanish go Spanish war in sixteen. O Three Fox attempted to enlist Spain's help in supporting a Catholic revolt in England King Philip. The third politely refused to help Fox despite his war service and he was left Adrift Again he returned to England England and the following year met Robert. KATES be cates. Be Like many English. Catholics felt persecuted by King. James the first James James had reinstituted fines for citizens who refused to attend Anglican services. He had also largely been less tolerant of Catholics than they had expected. Did given that James's mother Mary. Queen of Scots had been Catholic. As a result cates be felt. The only way to get fair treatment for Catholics X was to assassinate the king and place his daughter Elizabeth on the throne in sixteen five. Elizabeth was nine years old. cates be believed. She could be brought up as a Catholic after her father's death and installed as a puppet queen with cates. Be and other elite. Catholics is pulling the strings. cates be shared his plans with some other devout Catholics in February of sixteen. O Five soon afterward. He was introduced reduced to Guy Fawkes and brought him into the fold along with several others the conspirators held a secret meeting where they worked out the details sales of their plan over the next several months they leased an under Croft below the House of Lords and began smuggling gunpowder into the storeroom. They planned to ignite the powder when the next parliamentary session began on November fifth aiming to kill the king who would be in attendance since along with many Protestant lawmakers on October twenty sixth however an anonymous letter hinting at the plot was sent to Lord Montego a Catholic member of the House of Lords. The message warned Monte goal to stay away from parliament on November fifth for his own safety. It's likely that the letter was sent by one of the conspirators who felt guilty about catching Catholic men in the crossfire of the plot. Monte goal informed performed the king about the letter who had men search the cellars beneath parliament on the evening of November fourth into the early hours of the Fifth Fifth Fox was discovered guarding the gunpowder and was quickly arrested over. The next few days Fox was savagely tortured. Until until at last he revealed the names of his Co conspirators. He was executed alongside them in January of Sixteen ecksteen. Oh six following the arrest of Fox. The king urged Englishman to celebrate the foiling of the gunpowder plot. Since then November vor V has been remembered every year as Guy Fawkes night in Britain traditionally. It's celebrated by burning effigies of Fox lighting bonfires and setting off fireworks but more recently the legacy of Guy Fawkes has transformed to symbolize the broader concept of protest. Protest after a stylized mask of Fox was featured prominently in the dystopia in film V for Vendetta. It became popular online. In two thousand eight. The hacktivists group anonymous took the mask as a symbol of its movement since then the guy. Fawkes mask has been warned by demonstrators demonstrators of many stripes around the world and has largely become disassociated from the original gunpowder plot. It seems that though guy. fawkes failed to invoke the revolt he was hoping to his legacy lives on and inspires the spirit of protests worldwide..
