"And we are back. A lot of people commenting about what Nick Saban said about wanting to return to parity in college football. Ronnie is up now. Ronnie. Hey, Paul. How are you? Hey, Paul. Yes. I'm good. How are you? Ronnie, I am so good. What's the cliche? So bright, I've got to wear shades. I can't remember what the line is. But I have to wear shades. I'm sorry. Yeah, yeah. You remember me, bow, this is what I feel. Yeah, so you always see this, this is when I really start to get uncomfortable. Because your aunt and I were close friends in college. And now I'm thinking you were just some young whippersnapper when she, when my lady was in college, Paul, I'm not sure what year exactly it graduated, but I'm pretty sure I wasn't even born yet. And look at you. We're here to y'all graduate, Paul. Into the end of the 70s, okay. Yeah, I wasn't even born yet. I'm 36 years old. You're only 36. Yes, sir. Well, your aunt, by the way, I've asked you this before. I'm always afraid to ask somebody how is she still around or what's going on? Yeah, yeah, she lives in Nashville. You always hate to ask you. Yeah, she was still, but she was the assistant director of the Tennessee state museum, but she's retired and lived in Nashville. I should say she's too young to be retired, but then again, that I made myself feel better. But I'm one of the high school football team learning real mountain club on high school and where Sonny Smith is from. Sonic. When I got out of when I got to Birmingham, they used to call him, and he always talked, I'm just a country boy from her own mountain. Yeah, and that's me too, Paul, but we made a run at the state championship last year. We lost the south pit and the state semifinals and it was a heartbreaker. We had them on the ropes and they went on and won the state championship. My best Friends, the head coach, like benfield, and we're going to try to make another run down there this year, bob. Well Ronnie, it is great to hear from you and you make sure you got a question. Hello for me. Okay, I will. I will. And the question I had four years, you know, at least dad, which is my grandpa, he was an attorney, and he graduated from university of Florida and they made a big gator in my whole life and I'm an enemy territory, but. I want to know what you think about Billy night pair and what my Gators are going to do in year one, because living in upper east Tennessee, I've got a lot of rivalry with all my Friends and the wig beat them 16 out of 17 years and I'm going to continue to be confident until they beat us. So Ronny, you take care of yourself. I'm a big fan of Billy Napier. I think he's off and running. That is, I think he's really off to a great start. Does that make you feel when you have random people come up to you and they say, hey, my mom said she went to high school. Does that make you feel old? Yes. Is there saying their mom? Quick question. This is not an insult to Ronnie a minute ago. You think I sound that much older than him? I thought he was going to be her father. Maybe it's just the road mountain accent. What do you think? Yeah, I did. I don't sound the day over. I don't sound the day over 80, do I? No, not one day. Yeah, I mean, I don't want him to take this wrong way. He's the oldest sounding 36 year old. I've ever talked to. I think it's just the east Tennessee accent. Which I spent four years in enduring. Yeah. Samuel, great name from the Bible, is up next. Sam, are you there? I am the wonderful, great to hear from you. So I have a question about how Kansas used to be like Kansas, now how Clemson is like the way it used to be in football. They had landslides, Kansas lands labels, cleansing their establishments with Kansas wanted national championship in 2007 2008. We'd be talking to Kansas being like Clemson the way Benji had been able to now it comes in now all you now. I'm not sure. I mean, you can't just won the national championship in basketball. I did hear that correctly, didn't I? No. So that's not really, that's a non starter. Okay. Can Clemson be good? Clemson on the call. That is a question that I think a lot of my Friends are watching closely. And good. I think it's entirely possible that they have peaked. I know you hear that line about certain things, but if I had, that doesn't mean they can't win a game, but if I had to make a statement, has Clemson ever going to be as good as they were, the answer is no. I don't think they can be. I think they have they're capable because they play in an inferior league where you don't have to do very much to win. I mean, they want to be in games last year and we're really not very good. Correct. And Clinton will be in a champion without more available. What would their record have been? I would have said 66. Yeah, I mean, they wouldn't have beaten, they couldn't have been Arkansas. They couldn't have beaten Texas a and M all miss Alabama. Georgia. I mean, I'm not sure there could have been Tennessee at the end of the season. Thank you for the call. Bill is up next on rocky top. Hello? Hello, Bill. How's everything on rocky top? I have things Rosie up here. Wish I was old on Donald rocky top. Yep. In Tennessee. My question is about the IMF. Yeah. It ain't the question if more or less statement. Okay. Is it going to be the real nice chill in college stuff off? Yes. You think so? I do. Okay. So we're going to be anything down about it or we're going to put a ceiling on either. Well, no. Here's the problem. You can't cap this because that would violate, I mean, you could argue antitrust, you could argue a number of other aspects, but you can not curtail what now this thing could move to the only way to get there. That's why that's why college athletics wants an antitrust exemption. And then maybe you could cap it, but they're not going to get that. And they don't deserve that. And the biggest fear in college athletics is litigation right now..

"X's and O's analytics and dogs and give it a listen wherever you get your podcasts. And that was our conversation with coach Sabin, a two days ago while we were at the region's traditional. Let's get back to the calls here at 855-242-7285. We'll start moving past some of these interviews in a minute so there will be plenty of time between now and 7 p.m. for you to get in. Let's check in with Sean, who is in South Carolina. Hello, Sean. Hey, Paul. Thank you for taking my call. Thank you. I just wanted to know, I'm a dollar Clemson fan, first of all. But always want to know what the enemy is up to. So what do you think the expectation should be for Carolina football this year? And do you think that chain beamer can do what dabo has done to question? Sean, I think thanks for the call. I think it would be difficult. It would be difficult for anyone to do what dabo has done. Winning two national championships, playing for what, four national championships. And then losing in the playoffs, two other times. That is just an extraordinary record. And I think Shane beamer is capable of getting his program elevated, but is he capable of winning a national championship? And I'm not in a position. I can make that evaluation. This early in his tenure. Let's take a break. More to come, more of your phone calls at 855-242-7285. You were listening to the Paul fine bomb Joe podcast..

"You are listening to the Paul finebaum show podcast. Welcome back. If you are just joining us, so we've already heard from Kirby smart, among others, Alan green, John Daly. We were in Birmingham on Wednesday at the region's tradition and we caught up with Nick Saban. And we're back with coach Nick Saban of the university of Alabama coach thanks so much for being here and we have had conversations in the past and I think we'll continue to about the state of college athletics. You've been very outspoken with it. How would you describe where we are at this moment? Well, you know, I think one of the things that I'd like to see us be able to work back to is everything in college football has always had parity, same scholarship, same academics for healthcare, whatever it is. And I don't think we have that balance right now, which could affect the parody of college football and college athletics as a whole. So and I know we got a lot of good people working on it and I'm sure they'll come up with a good solution for us. But there are so many unknowns and so many allegations and I know that a lot of people would like to see you in charge of it all, but is there one thing that could be changed? Not pie in the sky, but that could be tweaked in a reasonably short period of time. I think a lot of people criticize the NCAA, but because of a lot of the laws that have been passed, the NCAA really has a difficult time. If they don't get protection for litigation, to be able to enforce some of the rules that they even have. So I think that's where the transfer portal came from. You know, people had to sit out, but everybody applied for a waiver if they didn't get a waiver they sued. So eventually you just say enough is enough and you just pass a room now, but everybody can transfer whenever they can. I think name image and likeness is good for players. I don't think that players should go earn what they get. Which is what our players did last year and did very well. But when you start having collectives and things like that that raise money to pay players and then you're talking about influence and players to go to a school in terms of what they're going to get. I'm not sure that's good for the game. The coaches will meet in under two weeks and I know this will obviously be the top of your conversation, but it just seems like some of the problems are in that coaching room. I don't mean the one that specifically you're in, but how do coaches manage this because some of the people that are saying similar things that you are making it more difficult. Right, well, I think everybody always looks for competitive advantage. All right, now that's the nature of the beef when you're in coaching. Because there's a lot of competition. So if you can create an advantage for yourself, you're going to try. So you can't really criticize anybody for doing that. But when you look at the big picture, what's good for the good of the game. Then that's a little different story. And I think we all have to have a lot of honesty and integrity about what's going to be good for the game in the future. And what kind of changes we need to make to get us there. You've been in the game a long time. Eminently successful, but you said a few weeks ago that the current model or some variation of it is not sustainable. What concerns you on that front in terms of the dam breaking so to speak? Well, I think the reason I made that statement was that we're going to promise players that we're going to create name image and likeness. It's going to create problems in the locker room unless everybody gets the same thing, which is, you know, that's the model that we're going to have. As coaches, the way I feel about it is we're there to create a platform for our players to be successful and create value for their future. How do they develop a career off the field or whether they have a chance to go to the NFL someday and have a great career there. So that's what we want to stay focused on. Not how much money a guy's going to make, why is he going to college? And I think that's the part that we all got to get our heads together on and say, what's best for the game? Hasn't that been one of the embodiments of what Alabama has done under you is you come here, you play for a championship and you have a reasonably good chance of playing in the NFL. That is not enough now though to some people. Well, maybe there'll be some people that it won't be. But I would rather get the guys in our program that that's what they're interested in. They have goals and aspirations for what they want to do. Look, when you go to college, colleagues is a destination where you're trying to prepare yourself for the day. You can't play football. Right. So that's the number one purpose. If you can develop a career on the field while you're doing that, that's great. And that's what we'd love for players to be able to do. So we want to stay focused on that and we want the quality of life for our players to be equal and we're going to make it that way. In terms of what we do, so it's fair for everybody. And then every player can go earn whatever they can earn because that's what name is likeness was supposed to be all about. As we close down here, coach, you really can never get away from the game, but I'm curious when this seemingly is acquired at time of the year, although it's never quiet. Is it even more oppressive because you don't know what a player now the portal dateline has changed, but you really never know what's around the next corner, do you? No, you don't. I mean, but once the supporter closed on May post or whatever, and I think we only had a couple of players get into portal. Some didn't have a choice..

"Be able to make some money and take that money and maybe get an insurance policy on themself for a lot of money in case they don't go pro or they get hurt or something like that. I mean, the NCAA, I don't like them. I think they're, I think they have too much control. I think the NIL needs to just keep going and I think kids need to get paid. I want to ask you as a father because a lot of people worry about what's it going to do to your kids grew up in a pretty decent meme. We depending on the day of the week, I guess, right? I mean, I took care of my children. I didn't take care of myself, but I took care of my children. But no, I mean, you know, you want them happy and first of all, you want them healthy. Yeah. And you look at college athletes, you want them to stay healthy. They get recruited big and you hope they stay healthy, but like I said, I think they deserve something. I want to ask you about your life and career because you are, and I've met a lot of people for somebody that is world famous. You're about as genuine and authentic as you get. And I think that's why I remember the first time you played a practice round at Augusta. I walked with you and they were, I mean, Tiger crowds had nothing on John Daly that week at the masters. I know it's an awkward question to ask about, but that's just how you've always been. I don't know. I think, well, there's no skeletons in my closet. So I've never lied to the fans, whether I screw up or do good. I'm always been honest with them and are they relate to me when I, when I have problems, I tell them because hopefully my problems will help them and hopefully we won't do the same problem over again. So I've always been I've always been true to my fans. I've always been real. I'm not some fake that, you know, hide stuff and bottles it up inside where oh, I hope the press doesn't find out about this. There's not one thing the.

"I did not take the guy up on that offer, I should have. We are here on Friday afternoon. And we're going to replace something that, well, you haven't seen it yet, but we talked to John Daly the other day, Wednesday to be exact at the region's tradition. I was just checking out the cigarettes. Well, welcome. This is Paul fine bomber. John Daley. The more and more man. You have a deal with him? I wish. That'd be pretty cool. I knew a lot of stuff for Phillip Morris. I bet you did. We have a lot of fun. Again, I've gotten to know you over the years. We keep up entirely about the razor blades. I love my house. I love what your checks are on there, hiring the coaches that he's hired and, you know, van horn's alleged there in our baseball, a girl softball, a girl soccer, I mean, our football program, muscleman and Pittman is doing a great job must have been doing a great job basketball. I mean, the audience would be surprised, I mean, I know you wouldn't be, but how rabbit is, I'm afraid to say anything negative about Arkansas, knowing that I'm going to look down and there you are. And I don't want that. I don't need a guy who holds a cigarette live on television coming after me. So let me talk about you for a second. I mean, everyone knows your golf. One two major championships, which people that everybody said, the first one was a fluke. The second one wasn't. Right. Yeah. When the British opened in the fluke. Oh, I mean, you know, people go, why didn't he win more? And I go, well, there's still only like 30 under 30 people that's ever won two majors. They act like it's so easy to do. That's a big deal. And it's like the SEC, people think it's so easy to win football games. Well, it's not. I mean, it's just, it's hard. The guys are so good out there. The guys are so great on this champion tour. Do you feel like the horse that won The Kentucky Derby because you were about the same, I mean, you were at the 6 or 7 alternate for the PGA 9th alternate, yeah. Yeah, my brother bet that horse too. Did he really? Yeah, he bet 21. And I thought I had the worst on horses, but I guess when I put my bed in, the odds change, so they went from 19 one to 27 to one, but he had 21, and one I think. I know you're obviously, I mean, you're out here in the champions who are, but I don't think people understand how busy you are representing corporate clients who just gravitate to you. What's a week like for you? And what do you do? Well, this tour, you know, you think this store is great. I love the champions tour, but we do play a lot of pro lambs. We do a lot of dinners. We do a lot of outside stuff that can wear and tear you down a little bit, but you know, we've earned it and, you know, for me to do a job in riding a golf cart and have some fun and make a little money here and there, it's not a bad deal. Speaking of money, we were rather entertained a few weeks ago to see you and your son. It was a hooper's trying to remember..

"The pride passion then pageantry of college football lives here. This is the Paul fine bomb show our two podcast. And we welcome you back. It's great to be here and it's also great to welcome coach Gus on the program of course we have gotten real quick now on over the many years is now getting ready for his second year at UCF and also getting ready for the move to the big 12 and a couple of years. First of all, coach, thank you very much for joining us. And I know that in addition to getting ready for a football season, you've had a lot of things going on off the field with Christy's father passing away and of course the unfortunate accident. How is everybody doing is we say hello to you. Yeah, Paul, thanks for having me. I appreciate you bringing up Chrissy. Had a little bit of a health scare in January. It was a real wake-up call. We really appreciate all the prayers and she's doing real well. Her dad passed and we just really appreciate everybody reaching out and everything's going good. We had a solid spring and getting ready for the summer. I know you've always been able or tried to separate and because and make sure that your family stands above everything else, but we obsess over some of the silliest things sometimes in college football, but what have you learned from this last couple of years when so much has happened off the field that really does not make college football seem unimportant, but maybe a little bit less important. Yeah, there's no doubt. I mean, like I said, it was a wake-up call for me with Chrissy's health scare. And you're exactly right. This football at the end of the day is not that important. Your family and everything that goes with that. You know, I learned a lot. You know, I'm really just hoping I'm a better husband and a better dad and I'm a better leader, a better coach for our assistant coaches and our players and when you go to adversity, you always try to have something positive and be better because of it. Coaches in terms of those things that you can control and that's or try to control and that's the football part of it. What has the off season been like with all these issues that all of your brethren are obsessing over every single day? Yeah, we got our hands full the new age of college football is definitely here. It seems like every day something new comes up, there's a lot of challenges with the NIL and the one time transfer, you know, we're at a place that has been very successful with transfers before I even got here. So we think we're in a good spot with all the changes coming forward Orlando is a great place and you see that's a great program and I'm real blessed to be here. The first year was pretty good. We did some good things. We found a way to win 9 games had a big bowl win. We added some transfers in and I think we're in a good spot going to the next season. I know that you've moved on, but how would you compare what you see day in and day out right now and of course you're about to make that move to what you've experienced previously at auburn. It's just two different places. There's no doubt. I mean, of course, I've told you before. I love my time at all, but I mean, I was so blessed to be the head coach there for 8 years, coordinator there for three years. I want to championship. Almost one, two, had some really good times. UCF is a young school. It's this up and coming Orlando is obviously different than auburn, Orlando is a great place to live. I mean, some of the best brands in the world are here and there's no NFL team. So when you look at the NIL and the future college football what it looks like, I think we're in a super spot. Coach, could you talk, you mentioned NIL, but we were just up in Birmingham the other day talking to coach Saban and Kirby smart and others. And there are a lot of accusations that go back and forth about the transfer portal and what goes on in there. How do you see that? And is there anything that really can be done about third parties getting involved? Paul, I don't think so. I just think that's the new college football world. And that's just something we're going to have to deal with it, whether coach likes it or not. Players are getting actively recruited. It's probably third parties, but obviously other teams too. And I know some teams came after our top players and not only did they come after them, but tell them how much they can make at their school and all that. But you got to get a re recruit your own players. And you've got to adjust and adapt. And I think the teams that adapt will have an advantage. I know you're somewhat of a traditionalist. You made your name in high school ball. And by the way, I don't want to act like were you coached at Springdale was anything like just a dark country road. It was an amazing program that the whole part of that state gathered around on Friday nights, but where do you think we are right now? Because a lot of people are concerned about losing the integrity of the game, the tradition of the game and losing all those things that have helped make college football so special. Yes, there's no doubt there's people uncomfortable. And to be honest with you, I'm probably uncomfortable too, but we just decided we're going to brace this as a school, as a football program. I've got to adjust to, you know, and so I just think that will be the big key moving forward. It's out of the box. And I don't think we'll be able to get it back in. So you just got to adjust the NIL deal in the new world. Some of the programs have been used in IL deal before it was legal. So I think maybe this will even after the plan some programs, you know. So we'll see what happens. That's quite a funny comment. And accurate. You're playing a really good league. We saw we saw that with Cincinnati. This year I had a chance to talk to coach fickle a couple of weeks ago when we were at the draft. You have this year, is that it or do you have more than one more year in the AAC? Yeah, as of right now, it looks like this will be the last year. And you're exactly right. I mean, Cincinnati had a great team. You're talking about Houston, SME. There's some really good teams in this league. But it looks like we'll be going to big 12 in 23. We're really looking forward to that. That's a big step. Some really good programs and it's really helped us in the recruiting world. And so we're looking forward to it. Yeah, I would think that as we close that would be a big factor because I mean, you were recruiting very well there, but there's I'm sure, how do you sense it, or when you're in or the recruiting world, you have to sell where you're going, as well as where you are. Does the big 12 mean that much more when you're talking to recruits? Yeah, there's no doubt Paul. The first year, I mean, we went after the top players in the country in the state and we'd hear a coach our non pirate 5..

"And they're so well coached coach. Stoops doesn't get enough credit. He their defense. They make very few mistakes. They play extremely hard. They run the football. They create turnovers. And now i really think this liam cohen good job as a no see. The last week was a bit of a struggle. But can he can. He designed some things to maybe put todd grantham and florida's defense on their heels. Get this thing in the fourth quarter and you never know crazy. Things have happened in this game. Speaking of crazy no places crazier you experience than than tiger stadium. I mean it's one thing to play there three thirty in the afternoon. Maybe a six o'clock start. This is an eight o'clock local. Nine o'clock eastern. I mean you can't start a college game later than that in the place to play. Why everything because when you pull up the fans are pushing your bus when you get out of the bus. They're pouring beer on you. When you walk into the stadium you have three generation side by side. That are all saying stuff. I can't repeat to you. And then the game starts in their loud and then the band plays done on and everybody freaks out and it's loud in the stadiums very close to you and they just they build on that momentum in ls it's been proven lsu is better at home at night. That's when less miles kept saying this is where opposing dreams come to die. It's a tough place to play. Since two thousand auburn has had to perfect seasons and played for the national championship and they still have in one time period great stat in baton rouge now. I mean even in the championship even in the year. That gus malzahn play for the title they lost. Lsu yeah lsu is not what they want but they're still very good team this year right but playing at home they know what a big game this is. And i think it's really interesting because you look at these two teams and they're very similar positions. Right they're trying to figure out the coaching staff. You know that identity. They're going to have on offense and defense. And just you hear the rumblings. Aubrey gets rid of a coach. Lsu's kind of figuring out what they wanna do and then the quarterback situation yeah. I'm john kind of the guy but he struggled a little bit. And then you have the quarterback situation at auburn's kind of up in the air. Both teams have athletic defenses. But i haven't really been successful so far this year. So there's a lot of question marks in this game you know it's gonna be kind of interesting say who can kind of answer that i mean i know how well you know bo nixon Know it seems like he's been there forever and and now he's a peculiar spot He may start he may not But clearly the fans have they moved on. How does that affect your not that. Why i think he's in a really tough tough place. And i think you have to be very mentally tough to let that not affect you. I've heard that he might get the start but they're probably going to get tj in their early as well. And i think they probably should. He brought life to them last week. And just start matter. Seems like it does us but it doesn't seem like to a game. Maybe it's it's i think it's probably the safest as staff if you start bow. And then you bring tj in because if you start tj and you bring you might hurt. Tj's confidence a little bit. I think you gotta play into that. Quarterbacks are fragile. Sometimes you gotta play into that confidence but we make a big quarterback situation and we should most important position in the sport maybe in any sport but also gotta get help got to be able to run the ball more effective their receivers have to get help from the tied in. It's not just one question. Mark for auburn..

A i I know my father passed away in We had his funeral last week. And actually finra. I listened to some of the sports talk that was going on. And you thought that alabama had had its own funeral after that win in florida but let me ask you if you ever heard. Nick sabin apologize for a win. I have not heard him a celebrate. Almost one no because champions never apologized for victories and people who want to be champions never celebrate almost getting there that's what separates the winners from the losers. And so i think that he takes. He's the best taking a game. Like that. Turning it into a teachable moment and getting the most out of it that you can and We'll see how works this weekend against slaying but watching a lot of these teams paul. I don't know if you were to watch. Lsu and auburn this coming weekend that you could sit there and say who actually wants to win this game on their performance. I mean if you look at momentum. Right now i'd say lsu has a little bit more going for it I'm auburn seems. There's just no excuse. For performance. Like that and i i know i know auburn fans can say we won the game but When you won the game and you still fire a coach. I'd like for somebody to explain that. Because he wasn't the one out there drawing up the offensive game plan and he wasn cashing balls or dropping the balls and i just think that The the the quarterback controversy at auburn isn't is going to be bony or finley. It's they have a quarterback capable of winning on a consistent basis. I don't know that they do well. I don't and i will say a you know. The the knicks benching was inevitable People inside College football knew that was coming. It just was a matter of when i give credit for making the call sometimes Gus malzahn would have probably stayed with bonex in lost the game so i think that is progress for auburn. It's just now a matter of of what carson can do in. What is going to be a really dangerous test. Hey thanks for the call. Appreciate it is up next. Hey west go right ahead. What they pay. Hey there how are you. I am a monday So that sucks better than that. Look forward to this weekend and got data coming up and then we got there. Brian harrison project going down to baton. Rouge say i'll teach family handled it. What do you think. I i haven't really i wanna i wanna wait this thing out because right now with with brian harrison. We don't really know very much I would like to know who's going to be quarterback. And i'd like to a few more things before i would make a call on that game. It i think right. Now there's a little bit of momentum toward lsu. That was a that was a save. Your season win in starkville on saturday. Yeah i am as it was the same for us i I have never been so emotionally distraught up and down Like that in a while of course am auburn fan. So i'm quite used to it but That was a scary situation but also happy to come out with a win. We do you think. Maybe this weekend is going to be like a brett farve going back to green bay with the minnesota and i just think family going down there and throwing bombs all day long. What do you think chances that are happening. Ball i don't think they're that good myself where. I am an optimist. I'm you know people are suit too hard on these kids. You know this bone expel. Of course he's he's had. My head turned inside out once or twice but I think he's nineteen years old. Gotta be knicks. Were starting for three years. This was not Some new in two years well started his third year. I listen i. I am most interested in in that team. Looks like In preparation. And i don't know i. I don't know enough about brian. Hartson i think so. Far you know. He beat the to cupcakes. Well he had his team ready to go He made some mistakes in In penn state which is understandable and teen clearly wasn't prepared but by the way a lot of teams aren't prepared for games like georgia state. Minnesota lost a game over the weekend. Who was just having again. If you're if you're if you're that excited about beating georgia state you could be in for a long season though. I don't think it was that big a deal one way or the other. Yeah yeah lost would have been disappointing but the games at auburn has to win. The same games at auburn has had to win. For as long as i can remember and those are the games against lsu georgia and alabama. Those are the benchmarks of every single auburn season. Thanks for the call. Appreciate it lane is up next in tennessee. Hello lane wayne. Paul how you doing today. I'm doing well thank you. That called before from johnson city. Oh yeah careers hometown. I missed out on the first part of your interview. Mister gold is he still doing nascar radio. No because of his alabama commitments He He left nascar a couple of years ago. I one time he was the he was the voice of scar. The you definitely got in there right. Oh i have a suggestion on the year proposed confrontation with mr goldberg. You need some help on that. You know and i suggest the larry is your manager and legend legends security guy. I mean if. I have to go down any dark alleys and i want that man with me. You know so legend. Thanks wayne. Thanks for the call Legend has been my security guy before and got me through a pretty nasty crowd. So hopefully again tommy in louisville. Hello time good afternoon. It's all let me tell you how we saw harrison. I guess has left you from the second month that you've been on tv. That years ago. But pretty unassuming thursday or friday. It might have been friday when you're on a down south carolina right. You made a and bit. Your memory just amazes me talent world that you remember it of course k. Would you would remember but calling the station. Id wats about bill over store member Whether it was home or in the car and and there were there were three or four stations that we all listen to for games. I mean h. As there was wwl in new orleans Komo ex and saint. Louis those were called clear channel stations. Meaning you could get their signal anywhere in the country. But i i'll never forget that. I don't know why i remembered that because i don't think i've thought about that radio station in probably forty years. That's why i'm just going to say all the w. h..

"Yeah anyways can we. All money watt. Let me move on. The canes have lost apps they would have been with we. Ac's wide open. Bibi clemson screwed. The pooch and i have more confidence that lawson victory than knowing that because milton has quarterback zinger. I'm good i'm good. Steve mcnair peaceful. Yep mcdonnell too goddamn out myths. This has this has been an awful years while he was twenty point. One just whatever so Ucf is in its third head coach in the past. Sixteen each ninety six seasons But this time it looks like he's here to stay knock on wood wooden dresser for the record Gus malzahn use the offensive coordinator for the twenty ten national champion auburn tigers. He was the head coach for the twenty thirteen auburn tigers. They came think. Seventeen seconds away from beating. Francisco's florida state. Seminoles the national championship. He was the best head coach in the sec. If nick sabin if you do not count the excitement. How do i say that because malegaon beat saving three times. He was the only head coach to beat him. That many times in the sec was the best non. Nick saban head coach. But that wasn't good enough for offer so they fire him. They cut his contract. They owe him. I think twenty million dollars because they cut him. He decides to comment coach floor to stay top for florida state. You guys will be lucky if he coached guys. So he's we decided cicak well. Maybe urban meyer. Rukam anything's gonna go to usc. Apart maybe los angeles will be good for his heart and his health. So gus malzahn. It was just an absolute stroke of luck. Our our athletic director. Danny white leave tennessee. He brings our head coach. Josh hypo with them. Who do we get to replace. Danny white terry mohajer from arizona from arkansas state. Guests who arkansas had parkinson's states head coach was in mohajirs. First year at arkansas state. Gus malzahn he what he was hired as a state's head coach in twenty twelve after being auburn's offensive coordinator for a few years turns out then auburn would hire now is on in two thousand thirteen to be their head coach because they got rid of chizik so there is a relationship between mohajer and thous on mohajer calls on immediately and says hey you wanna be our head coach. He says hell yeah. I'm formal so we malzahn era begins. It begins with a way actually quite literally because the game was away. Two hours forty five minutes to two lightning strikes in the area Ncw he has rule that if there is any lightning strikes within eight miles of sporting facility. Unless it's at doors than the game has to be postponed for a minimum of forty five minutes forty five minutes after the last lightening strike so a game. That was supposed to start at seven. Pm starts at a quarter to ten. We're playing boise state. Who is the standard bearer of non slash Five schools over with. I had we had matthew here. You just talk about that game wackle right. So we play boise state. we're down twenty one zero at one. Point is the largest deficit is it is a huge deficit..

"Football kind of circling the wagons here and not allowing anybody else to get in. And let's start here with boise state in central florida. This is going to be really interesting. Gus malzahn now back in college. Football at ucf. How do you feel about the nights. And how do you feel about gus. Malzahn at this level. Yeah actually kinda down on. Ucf van on ghosts. And i know. I think he did a good job at auburn He'd be saving three times He led that team. You know in his first season to an appearance in the national title game so to suggest that he underperformed at auburn is wrong But in my opinion You're asking a guy who's in the twilight of his career To go and be version of himself and no longer exists in this new job. Because i in my opinion it's been You know going on a decade. Now since gus malzahn has truly been the offense of bureau that i think a lot of people see him as and so. Ucf the offense of expectations. There are through the roof. I mean I obviously with scott bras. But then even with josh hypo. The last three years They were approaching. You know an average of five hundred and seventy five yards a game So i do expect gus malzahn. Who's auburn offense. Only averaged three hundred and eighty three yards a game last season to go to. Ucs and keep that standard offensively. I just think there's a little bit of a mismatch there between the expectations. And then the reality of what. Gus has actually been for the last five or six years interesting. So what do you make. Dylan gabriel in. Ucf tonight at home against the boise state team. That's got a brand new coach and some turmoil. Frankly because they were shocked to lose their coach to auburn. Yeah so we've got a Kind of a picks up on this now Cbs sports news. I think seven of us on staff. You made predictions. And i am standing alone in predicting boise state's win this game. I'm with your coat. I'm with your your coworkers on this on. Ucf big tonight. Yeah and observation regresses. And i think what i'm doing is i'm projecting my Sort of lower expectations for the maoz on era onto this week. One game But i will say. I do think that it's going to be a really good team. I think andy. Avalos is somebody. No one's really talking about somebody in our in. Our slacked read pointed out earlier. Today when you google search andy. Oslo's the boise state. Football coach is not the first person who comes up. I mean a lot of people don't don't really know what to make make of him And so But at the end of the day that's a guy who knows boy state very well. He just spent the last two years. Oregon's defensive coordinator. He's a boise lifer before that and so he actually knows a lot of these guys in this rasberry noses personnel already. Unlike gus who's had to try to get to know his personnel pretty quickly and the oslo's is very familiar with that boise program so I think they're going to be a little a little bit. Better shape right out of the gate and then the old adage to The fact the fact is you know it takes offense a little bit a little while a little bit longer to get going in the early season it does with defense And so for that reason. I think i'm you know. Sticking with my boise pick. It's probably too late to change it now. but but we'll see offered transfers on that defense will help for ucf having independent linemen and a cornerback. Coming from auburn will help that defensive. Line that secondary out tonight. I don't know. I think boise's got some question marks going on the road to the bounce house. Tonight's going to be a tough spot. What do you make. Nc state here at home against south. Florida real rough year last year but rough couple years for south florida. But it's big number. Nc state they're laying nineteen tonight at home against south florida. Ken can tell in the bulls. Do anything tonight. I don't really know what to make it. Uss and your two hundred. Jeff scott i mean obviously comes From clinton to usf last year struggles out of the gate. You're talking about a a. Usf that that won ten games. You know like four seasons. Go under Charlie strong and so We had successor as well. I think there's potential in that program. I don't know how close they are to reaching it though so i like. Nc state certainly win Haven't thought about that when it gets spread a whole lot. But i think honestly i think. Nc state should be pretty good. They're kind of sweeper for me in the acc they just bring a lot back. They dorms a very steady. You know eight wins in his sleep type of coach. And i don't think they should have any trouble covering against a us f. team. That was pretty bad last year. But you know maybe just kinda to determine that quarter. I don't know. Usf to me is too much of a mystery to really have a strong cake on on that. Spread tonight with gave for that reason. But i've seen a lot of people on. Nc state mayes nineteen just feels kind of heavy to me out of the gate with nc state. Speaking a heavy here minnesota is the game in the night hosting ohio. State got stroud starting now as a freshman freshman running back for ohio state. The gophers come back with twenty starters. Tanner morgan they're coming back with their starting offensive line. Starting running backs everything's back for. Pj flack after a really rough year. Last year. I like the gophers to hang around here. David i know everyone likes ohio state but what do you feel about the buckeyes here and the gophers can minnesota keep a close. Yeah so i got minnesota plus fourteen and a half and i think they. I think they can keep it within two touchdowns absolutely So it seems to me as though some folks kinda jumped off of The the boat at minnesota and. pj flack Because they struggled last year they went three and four However in two thousand nineteen which as we all know it was a much more normal college football season. That was an eleven when tea and you know if you really want to dive into last season to their Four losses were in overtime. And so those games go the other direction. We're talking about an eleven to minnesota team followed by a five and minnesota team during the pandemic season. So they bring it back. They've got a veteran quarterback in ten morgan. One of the best running backs in the big ten mohammad uranium. And you know how counted or they're probably gonna win the big ten But unlike a lot of teams around the country this season they do replace a lot of players. That's just the situation that those elite programs find themselves in and just maybe it takes them a couple of weeks to reach maximum operating capacity so that result like minnesota to To keep a close to win but but to cover. I would agree a couple more here. David and cbs sports. Where are you on. Virginia tech and justin fuentes has after replacing frank beamer. He's been there long enough. I feel like vortex be further along. And you've got north carolina who historically speaking been awful in week one under mac under mack brown. You got a a ton of hype coming in with sam. How with the heisman. Trophy conversation that replacing to nfl running backs into nfl. Wide receivers but huge expectations for north carolina. Here on the road. What's going on with the hokies. And what do you make a game. One deferred north carolina. Yeah another one. Where i'm kind of Against the mold. I guess Or at least against my co workers I picked virginia tech to win this game. Straight up It's going to be the most hostile environment that north carolina has played in two thousand nineteen. And i mean you could say that for anything going on the road this week but I just i. Virginia tech and really good in in openers under wednesday against good teams to And that virginia. Tech defense i think is going to be a lot better than it was last if you remember bud. Foster was the longtime defensive coordinator there under frank beamer and he stuck on with justin fuente But then last season Was the. I know that they had without bud foster and so under hamilton. There was just sort of A drop off. You know lassie's no other way to put it and they had opt out and personnel issues. Defensively i think. Virginia tech defense is probably butter and were looking at her. We're surmising just based off the last year. Statistics and so with north carolina replacing two thousand and To their top two receivers. You both caught fifty passes Another situation Kinda like i said with house stay. I think it might take you. And see a week or two longer to get adjusted offensively just due to some of the turnover.

"He has i think talented on paper. The most talented defense alabama had in maybe a decade or somewhere near that you may be right l. Nothing athletic directors love sabin assistance. We'll take a break Andrea adelson will be joining shortly. Always look forward to her Being on the show. And we're back after this. You're listening. Paul finebaum show podcast. Welcome all of you back. The it's our pleasure to welcome in andrea adelson from espn to the program a number of topics to discuss with andrea. She's done a piece on to your king miami. She's about to cover gus. Malzahn first game notre dame hosting notre dame busy opening weekend andrew. Thanks for being here. Let's start with diarra king. Miami and alabama fans naturally are are not overly concerned about this game. But you know that miami program pretty well obviously to this would be a program changer for miami so that we can continue to wonder whether they're back or not a win here means maybe kind of sorta we don't know but obviously this is a game that miami has to win and when you look at the elite marquee games that miami has played in recently against top five opponents. It hasn't gone well for miami. And that's specifically their matchups against clemson so for me. It's all about trying to figure out. Miami is against the elite level competition. There's a reason they're in eighteen point. Underdog going into this game because they haven't proven that they can stay on the field and remain competitive against top five teams. And that's why alabama fans aren't really concerned with this game and miami is returning veteran team. A team that has Nfl players on both sides of the ball. Obviously it all starts with derek king. Who's coming back from a major knee injury. He feels one hundred percent. He's felt one hundred percent over the last month. He's able to do everything that he possibly can for this offense and he also has more of a comfort level in this offense in year two. I think he's going to be able to do a lot more in terms of be able to make some plays at the line. Make some checks make some audible. So miami on their side of it feels like they are a better team but this is a measuring stick game for the hurricanes. No question about that paul. And honestly i think it can determine define what happens to them. This season adrian me Go to the next to do wish for you. And that's gus malzahn opener. We certainly know coach on very well here. How how's he played so far in orlando and what do you expect from him. And his program this fall so far so good and orlando the entire fan. Base has really embraced him. And i think a lot of that is because they have seen a coach. Now who is embracing this whole idea of the future of college. Football lives here. In orlando and with josh hypo. Maybe he stayed away from some of the conversations about wears. Ucf headed in terms of the national landscape and playoff and realignment. But not gus. Gus has been full steam ahead with selling this program and what it has to offer everybody from around the country. Obviously they want to be able to recruit here in the state of florida but because they have come out with this mantra and they've put billboards across the state including gainesville including south florida. Reminding people the future of college football is here. I think that has really endeared him to the fan base. But that's all season right. Paul now everybody wants to see what he can do on the field and you quite familiar with the struggles at auburn offensively. The last couple of years. And i think. Ucf fans are hoping that because they have dylan. Gabriel a three thousand yard. Passer coming back that that will help. Help reshape gus. And the way people view him in terms of the offense there's been discussion and talk about whether he's lost his fastball. There and now. He's got a perfect opportunity in front of him with a ready made offense that was number two in the nation last year in total offense ranked in scoring to be able to put some points on the board tomorrow. Night against boise state. This is a really crucial game. Because i think it can really set the tone for what he's gonna do for. Ucf and we're ucf is going to be in the conversation this season. It wasn't too long ago we were talking about. Ucf all the time on this program. Now cincinnati's the darling the american and so. It's up to gus to really start changing that narrative back to ucf and making them more of the discussion nationally. Ask you about that topic from several years ago. 'cause much of it involves scott frost and what is the view down there where he lived and was so successful in relation to everything that has gone wrong for him in lincoln. It's a great question. Paul and he still beloved here because of what he was able to do in just a few short seasons at. Ucf taking a team. That was winless the year before he arrived in two years later to their self-declared national championship undefeated season. There's obviously a couple of differences. What he likes to do on offense where he was groomed at oregon. Not what he did when he played at nebraska but just the spread tempo offenses. He was able to do here at ucf because of the players that he was able to recruit here and he had a quarterback in mackenzie milton who was able to pick up on that offense and make it home. He was like having another coach on the field and even though there may have been penalties. Maybe some undisciplined. Some of the things you see showing up at nebraska didn't matter here because ucf was winning games by outscoring people and they had some pretty good defenses along the way at nebraska. It's just much harder to be able to recruit that type of players to go there that you can recruit at a school like ucf which is obviously in the hotbed of recruiting where you can recruit the types of athletes. You need with speed to be able to have those types of offenses and because their quarterback hasn't developed. Maybe the way that they were like the way that mackenzie milton did hear all of the other issues in the program now are magnified when you hear scott frost saying it's the same old movie. That's an indictment of the coaching staff really. It's up to the coaching staff to get these players ready every single week and every single year clearly. They haven't done that up until this point i've been disappointed to see what's transpired because i thought he'd be able to win there. Maybe not to the extent that he did at ucf. But i thought he'd be able to find some success and so i don't know what the future holds for him but i do think that if he were to have stayed here at ucf he have continued to have the success that he found in his two years. Here with program talking to injure adelson topics so we hit the first weekend of the college football season. I know sunday huge game. Normally it would probably be the bell of the weekend but because florida state has taken such a fall..

Hello jake paul appreciate you taking my call thank you. I wanted to wanted to get your thoughts on on danny white the they d for ut and and what do you think he's been able to accomplish in short time on the job. So far knoxville. Well i think he what he had to do was get some stability in chaotic situation. And you know. He made the higher to josh hypol- and he really He resigned patillo or the baseball coach. Wise i think those are essential things. And i think now he's got to figure out a way to to bring in more revenue and and raise money which which really are critical components. How have you seen his performance. I personally been impressed with him. So far You know. I believe he's. He's starting to compete donor interest. And and again i think he's reignited the fan base to a degree about bringing in a a modern high powered offense that really just premium programs never seen before and and recently in a move that you know quite frankly i think long been overdue Through one of his initiatives ut's going be permanently honoring by way of statues. Around newman stadium. The of of lester mcclain and jackie walkers congress holloway and martin and and. I'm sure you're aware there. Those are pioneers racial equity and s. You i agree with you on that. "Bit worried about curious about the sea but yes they have the talent they have the cachet and more importantly sam. They got the schedule this year where they can make more noise and respect their opponents yet. We'll dp. i'm actually concerned about that schedule. Last year a lot of people would say that. Cincinnati played cupcakes. Well this year. They got what they were asking for. You got indiana september eighteenth. You get a bye week to rest up. And then you get notre dame like this is what we all is. College football fans have hoped for. It's a schedule like this. The game i'm circling. Is that october second game. That's cincinnati at notre dame. Are they real. Yes we know that. Cincinnati have the number four rain defense last year. Yes we know that desmond ritter is the real deal. But you're not playing cupcakes anymore. You got indiana notre dame and oh by the way two weeks later you're playing. Ucf which is not a not a laughing matter not a thing to balk at by any means and so. This is what i love about college football. You have a team like cincinnati who we all were kind of wondering who were. They're going to be last year even undefeated. Now you get a chance to play against the best. You got to prove it well. They're taking matters in their own hands right. If you do wanna think long-term if you do want to think about the playoff this is what you have to do. They need games like this on their schedule and certainly exciting for their fans. They have to win them. Of course but we'll see and you mentioned ucf and we'll talk about gus malzahn coming up. Take a take a peek though right now the preseason poll then cincinnati and ucf. We've talked about him. Vote there at the top of the conference. The bearcats receiving twenty two of the twenty four first place votes the nights receiving the other to smu houston memphis and tosa round out the top..

"Well as paul finebaum show. But it's peter burns hosting today. Follow me on twitter at peter burns. Esp in were had a great first hour. Trevor albert's brand new director of athletics of over nebraska join me and was talking about Some of the different things he's got going and of course it's all about scheduling right. I forgot to ask him in. Twenty twenty seven. He's got an opening. Texas has an opening. I want a pair those two together. That's one of those college football matchups nebraska texas and the big twelve days. I'd like to see a one of these matchups that i'd like to see for a bevy. Different reasons is florida and ucf. Is it going to happen. Bianchi joining me for from the orlando sentinel. Mike is this. is it finally done. Is this deal on the. What does the half yard line as people like to call it. Now it's at the half your. It's at the half inch yard line is works at that. The half short don. Yeah that should be announced probably within the next few days. It's going to be a three-game series. I two games at the swamp one game at the bounce house in orlando and the first game. They're all spread out. Twenty twenty four is the first game the second games in twenty thirty and then the third game is in twenty thirty three i. I'll probably won't be alive to see the last two. But at least i'll get to see i. It's interesting on ninety six nine. The game we also host. Y'all had a tweet that was asking at you. Know golden knights fans. I mean how do they feel about it. If it is a two for one deal going to gains going to the swamp twice once in the bounce house how do you feel. Eighty percent of the fans liked the deal. So my question is what change from now. This deal getting done to you. Know your prior. Well i think the fans i. The fans have always wanted this game. They've always wanted to play florida. Ucf of course not and they sec not in a power five leagues. They've always sort of had the little brother syndrome. They want to play these big time. Opponents like florida and florida's the flagship university in the state of florida. So they've always wanted them play them. But when danny white arrived at ucf and ucf got really good when scott. Frost was the head coach and then josh hypol- and they had the back. The back unbeaten seasons. Danny white's reasoning was listen on par with some of these mid level power. Five what why should we have to play two for one like texas tech when our programs better than texas tax so he wanted to be elevated the hey if florida's gonna play colorado one for one. Why wouldn't they play. Ucf one for one. He's sort of backed himself into a corner there And there was the financial situation. He didn't wanna give up an extra home game because let's face it. Ucf makes most of their money from playing home games. They make three to five million dollars per home game. He didn't want to give up an extra home. Game to play florida on two for one base. You doesn't get the fifty million dollars. Sec network check like florida did so he he thought it was inequitable scheduling with that being said how much you think. That was a push from gust. Because i know. Gus is chomping at the bit. I talked to him after i got in the ucf job. And i was like you wanna play. You wanna play florida. yep you. I mean he. He's all in on this. I mean how much of that push in. Fill that momentum that he has there in orlando. Yeah and i. There will probably be you know if if if like an alabama or auburn or a michigan or house state or florida up big time opponents like that if they wanted to for one with ucf. I'm sure terry mohajer the new ad and malls on the new football coach. I'm sure they would be all and for that. But but i still don't think you're gonna see. Ucf playing the mid level power. Fives on a two for one basis. I still think like the georgia tech and the the north carolina's in schools like that. I i still think. Ucf is going to play those on one for one basis. But yes i think. Gus malzahn and terry mosher. The new ad have certainly changed. Ucs philosophy about playing big time. Marquee opponents on a two for one basis mike of the orlando sentinel ninety. Six nine the game in orlando joining burns here on the paul finebaum show mike forgotten. It's such an interesting kind of roller coaster ride. He had at auburn. It was fun as hell to watch. We'll put that. I'm not necessarily an almond fan but just watching it. It was must see television each and every week. What's his team going to look like that. He inherits from josh hypo. Who of course now is going to be over there and rocky top well offensively. It should be outstanding j. Every josh hypo with an outstanding offense of coach as well dilling gabreel one of the top quarterbacks in the country coming back i think pro. Football focus had him rated as the fourth-ranked quarterback in the country among all one hundred and thirty. Fps quarterback Ucf is loaded at receiver. They have all sorts of speed now. The deep i think. That's where gus malzahn gonna make the real defense even though he's an offensive guru by trade. Uc defense is going to be a lot better under. Gus malzahn Than it was under josh josh hypol- sort of let the defense go But man. I think gus malzahn is going to have a really good. I here at ucf. And i'll tell you what and he's even said this if we get to the twelve team playoff and it looks like that's going to happen. Ucf had every opportunity to to make the playoff more times than not because we're they're located The the advantages the resources they have the recruiting and the coach that they have. I think gus malzahn set up to make the playoffs. More at ucf. If it's a twelve team playoff then he made it. He would have been at auburn. An interesting With that being said is still a couple years removed or you know away from that possibly having is that one hundred percent but it probably pretty good opportunity of that is going to go down with that being said right here. Twenty twenty one. The best team in the state of florida is Oh i still think that. The gators even though cal. Trask is is well. I'm at miami. Would have an argument to but i still think it's the gators i. Dan mullen is a fabulous coach. I think he's a fabulous offensive coordinator. He's got a quarterback now even though cal. Trask broke all sorts of records last year. Emory jones quarterback. That really fits what dan mullen wants to do. More than kyle. Traff does on the offensive side and emory jones. Everybody talked about how patient cal. Trask was waiting his turn emory jones. He could have transferred many times lot of schools. One in the transfer. He waited his turn behind. Kyle traff and i. I think he's gonna have a great year. I think the gators The gary's are still the best team in the state but but ucf in miami right there knocking on the door. In my opinion it's interesting florida's still not even anywhere close in that conversation so that norville is gonna have to change a pretty quickly out there. In tallahassee mike bianchi orlando sentinel joining. Peterborough here on the paul finebaum. Show mike when you look at being in orlando kinda like how. Almost you know nashville. To a certain extent a big hub where colleges at right we've got vanderbilt their. Ucf is in orlando. How much being in a big city like that you think will help schools for nfl purposes as opposed to being the only game in town in fayetteville or starkville or.

"If you don't have an offensive line in this league you can't play no matter how good your skill positions are. They can't block. they can do it. I mean ethan. White was fantastic on that offensive line last year. The question is is can emory jones. Take the next step. Because emory jones isn't a lot of people are thinking emerge is going to go back there. And he's going to be this johnny menzel sly you know slash lamar jackson guy. That can just you know just float throughout the pocket. He's not really that guys. More of a passer so that needs to be the strength for florida football now before i let you go pete You know big news. That was mike bianchi from the orlando sentinel was talking about and we kind of felt like this is on the way you know coming. How do you feel about if ucf gets added to the florida. Gator scheduled down the road. You go that. I'm good with that with that. Needs to be a battle in the state of florida for number one at the top stars coming out of florida. All these four stars you know. It's going to be a battle between all you see a florida miami and go to state I think we should all go around with each other and the better team a start getting these five stars Oh big storms. Staying in st pete. I love that attitude right. Thank you for the phone call. Eight five five. Two four to seventy to eighty five. You wanna get in here. Peter burns hosting for paul finebaum today. I love that attitude. Because i told you guys monday. When i hosted to start for the georgia bulldogs so again. I'll all the records is a case. You missed the show. I think georgia wins in the sec championship this year. I think they win at all. But at least the sec. And i said you need to you. Want to have those expectations. And what pete. The florida gator. Fan is saying like yeah. Let's play them. Why not and. if. You're dan mullen. You wanna play them. I know gus malzahn wants to play him in fact connor i think. Do we have that sound from gus. Malzahn 's opening presser over at ucf. Yeah let's go ahead and play. This was gus malzahn when asked. I don't remember if was necessarily about florida about playing opponents in home and home in two wants with. Here's what he had to say. You'd be willing to play without a home at home. Return game or won't be your coach sort of scheduling. I'll play on the parking lot Terry can decide for plano home or on the road or to for whatever i mean i just want to play him and i want to beat him so.

Coaching search updates: Kevin Steele the favorite at Auburn

"Obviously we're in the middle. Coaching carousel to and i think the most interesting one right now is auburn I think they spent twenty one point. Five million dollars to buy out gus malzahn. We could argue whether he should have been fired or not the end of the day. He lost the momentum there and they the boosters put the you know got out the hat and collected the money and they fired him. So you think okay. You're gonna fire Coach gus malzahn. All that money. You're going to want to go out and get like the splashes possible coach. You can get tell us who's actually leading the coaching search right now as we reported this morning. That sources are telling me that the front runner for this job right now is defensive coordinator kevin steele and while that may blow some people's minds. He has some very very influential people at auburn who are big believers in him and in his corner at auburn. Especially that matters right so look We have a story up but the athletic now about who's in the mix there and the ones. I think one of the people who is really a big contender against kevin steele on this front is lane. Kiffin at ole miss But i think he would have a hard time turning that job down. I think he's obviously a big name. Now he's foreign four. It's it's interesting in that. I think a saturday's game between ole miss and lsu doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot. You know outside of those two programs. But i think it may may need a little bit of something potentially at auburn as crazy as it sounds because for some people at auburn i think they could shape it and saying all right kevin steele dreadful run as the head coach at baylor twenty. Plus years ago he was one and thirty one in big twelve. Play at baylor is a long time ago but people. I've talked to down there have made the case where you know what at had a bad record. The first time he was a head coach and he just won a national title a year ago. And my my counter. That was well. He did have to times as interim pretty lengthy runs where he was at least able to show people he's evolved and grown and those people said look a people at auburn feel like kevin steele's been the guy who's hold it together for them the last few years he is very well respected within the scc And so also know how. Attractive is lane to auburn. He did a really good job at fau their foreign You know if he loses to. Lsu's not very good this year. He's foreign five. I think probably diminishes a little bit No its first year. It wasn't like anybody expected out all messed great. But he's definitely a candidate As billy napier from louisiana Maybe who freezes is somebody that that auburn would push for. I think and you still have steve sarkisian there. You know also in the state of alabama So it's a really interesting. Search in auburn is wildly unpredictable. What does but From what i heard they would love to have a coach Decided upon by the beginning of next week

Predictions for the Iron Bowl - Alabama vs Auburn

"Look at a couple of other games. This may not take long the iron bowl Alabama certainly with Georgia next week. What does auburn's path victory? Well, I I guess the only thing I can think of is I've looked at some things this week early in the week is I'm falling in love with his Alabama defense. And I think what tasha poi- has done with a brand new secondary. And losing so many great leaders from a year ago. They have come a long way from Louisville to where they are getting ready for the iron bowl, obviously those game raps and just an understanding of their sign mints with their there. When you face Gus malzahn, uptempo offense, if they're able to get some first downs, and you've witnessed this and they're able to create a rhythm. They're able to kind of get you on your heels and with all the jet sweep motion pre snap movement. They can affect your eyes, and they can affect the and all of a sudden you bust in assignment, which has been somewhat of an issue with this this Bama defense this year you bust in assignment. And next thing. You know, you got to you got an H back. That's live out. Nobody saw him play action fake the jet sweep and there's a guy out in the flat. Nobody picked up and they dump it to him and he picks up twenty five yards. It's gonna take moments like that for all. I think to get traction. They're gonna stems going to have to have time. But they're gonna have to come up with fooling Alabama, kind of smoking Miers lot of tempo. A lot of distractions with the pre snap movement and hope that affects the communication about Obama. And that they they've bussed coverage three or four times when they do they gotta make big plays. And they got a score on that that that that to me is the only way I can envision them staying in this football game. The other thing is I think Alabama's been dealing with some guys that have been dinged up at receiver. They, of course with two and Jalen I think now they're starting to get healthy. And I think that offense that that used to be like a video game until the Mississippi State and LSU game. I think that Auburn is going to be very. Challenged when when Bama gets into their four wide receivers said Georgia punished Auburn on those nickel Bax safeties trying to cover those inside receivers would not surprise me at all to see to try to make that same thing happen attack. The man the man that all plays by going after the linebackers and going after those Nickelback so bam is going to win the game. But Gus malzahn, man, he saves a few wrinkles for this game. And I wouldn't be surprised if if they get a few busted coverages and make a few big plays in the past game.

Auburn Bouncing Back

"So Auburn bounces back given up for dead. They won a couple of games. Now that gives them a little momentum heading to Georgia Saturday. I didn't see that one coming. You know, they were down ten in that in that ballgame. And I really thought I was going to be over. So it was good to see them find something. It was good to see I think that leadership Jarrett's did him that football team kind of learned something about themselves down in that football game. Now, here's a little say, you can't run the football. So win this football team. Decides to put the ego aside and say, you know, what this is who we are. And until Gus malzahn says you know, what we can't run the football. Let's do what we do best. They're still gonna walk in there to Georgia. And they're going to try to be something. They're not they're gonna try to run the football. When they can't if they do that. They're not gonna come close. If they see you know, what we can do some things wish works. We can do some misdirection the back, but we can steal some is allow Jarrett stidham to throw the football go four and five lied that. That's what gives us the best chance to win. If they do that. They're talented enough on the defensive side that they could keep it close. They can make it a ballgame. But I just don't know if from an ego standpoint that staff can get together and say, okay, we can't run the football. What can we do? I think they're still going to try to beat their head against the wall. Go into Georgia run the football. And again, I just don't think that's going to do it.

College football season second half bold predictions

"Winning Auburn, losing Georgia, going down, LSU knocking off seemingly everyone, but Florida. And then there's the Gus. Gus malzahn told us Friday night in Auburn, a new season begins tomorrow. Well, the way it went. I don't think they want that type of season. So have we seen this horror movie before? Yes, we have preseason rank in fifteen and twelve. Of course, the Gus bus was not there in twelve that was the Chizik bus, but nevertheless fall from grace like you wouldn't believe. So where does it go? I think we all know the situation. Gus malzahn new contract courtesy of president. Stephen lease last December, seven years. Forty, nine million dollars. The buyout is thirty. Two million Auburn fans be acceptable to that. Will they embrace Gus malzahn. We'll find out as we go throughout the rest of the season. And what about those barking? Dogs? Darrow quit the show last week and the dog just had no fight. Nightmare in death valley. Seem pretty similar to the Auburn game last year and on the planes Kirby smart where you got, obviously we didn't play our best football game today. Now, responsibility starts and files of me thought LSU did a hell of a job. Their quarterback played really well. He got him in the right place on a lot of run checks, and we didn't tackle rule well defensively, which we've seen before and then I'll festively. We couldn't get any rhythm in the second quarter, and it's frustrating all day. We had some plays where we miss them opportunities, but we didn't make plays when we had to. And it would probably lost the kicking gang for the first time too. And that's not indicative of who we are, but I don't want to take anything away from new coach, Ron. They did a tremendous job. Their fans had a tremendous environment, and we got a standard at Georgia. We play too, and we didn't do that today. The good news is we get an opportunity to go out and get to work and get better. Okay. The well, the east is certainly up for grabs now and Florida, Georgia. In two weeks, the world's smallest can't say it. We're not allowed to. So Georgia is reeling did curvy smart, make the right move by sticking with Jake from many are wondering, many are questioning that we saw a little bit of fields not enough Cording to some Georgia fans that I know, but that's why we are here, and we will spend the next four hours talking about all of those situations.
