Those They Left Behind: The Victims of Roy Melanson
"His cabin they stopped at a gas station to put some air in the leaky tire and they had to buy some more beer because they're all out and it continued on their driver car jerked so the two men the shows with that day no surprise turned out to be Chuck Mathews in Roy Melanson so chuck gone out of the car underneath the chassis and so that Iraq had put a hole in the oil pan so michelle offered to give them in a ride in her car when they made it to town got to her car matthews got into the backseat with oak and Melanson wrote up front with Michelle Michelle drove them back to gunnison asmir thieves bonded with Oak Michelle Cherif Melanson yes it was late afternoon they arrived back at the Columbine Bar Matthews was really surprised though because then he overheard Melanson asked Michelle if she could drive him a few more blocks to where he left his truck now he hadn't even mentioned a truck Matthews Matthews didn't think he had a truck I mean if he had a truck why they've been riding around in his old terrible junker were to prove in itself untrustworthy in absolutely breaking down and leaking air and stuff that's terrible so that's a good question where we take in my old junker but he didn't say anything in Melanson told Matthews he'd be back in a while and rode off in the passenger seat of Michelle's car so matthew went into the bar but he was confused and he decided he'd wait for Melanson to come back and maybe he could give him a ride home in his truck but when Melanson and returned by nine pm matthews called a friend to pick him up and he thought that would be the last seat here this whole thing but the next morning Melanson Grove Michelle Wallace's Redman Asta station wagon to the JC penney storing gunnison and he wrote a fraudulent check to purchase a dress shirt and pants Georgia and Megan Wallace Michelle's parents were back in Chicago thinking that everything was Fine Michelle was alive and well and would be back soon they were really happy that she was going to working as a photographer in North Carolina but September second came and went without a call from Michelle and she promised Maggie that she would call her that day so Maggie called the sheriff in Gunnison to report Michelle Missing Ecorse it had only been a couple of days she was an adult so the dispatcher told her not to worry her daughter and probably just decided to camp for another day or two forgot to collar but Maggie knew better she knew Michelle and she insisted that Michelle would never do that so she persisted and she actually got the sheriff's Department to talk to her and to search scofield part so the next one warning the under sheriff went to Michelle's apartment and saw that she had never returned from her trip so they figure that Michelle could have had an accident the rugged country so the undersheriff co the crested Butte Police Department an SM to look for her car they call them back that evening saying there's no sign ever car. The Maggie's calling repeatedly she's just worried sick a massive search was started by the gunnison sheriff the crested butte police department and the Civil Air Patrol rose also many volunteers helping in the search also Michelle's remained gave the police Michelle's hairbrush I glass says to hold his evidence and this would pay off much later not right away because we're in nineteen seventy four technology and advancements in science in a long way to go through certainly did very minimal right right so it was on September six when Chuck Mathews heard about a missing girl on the radio and we heard the description of Michelle in her dog along with her last known whereabouts he knew that she was a young woman that he had met with Melanson on August thirtieth but of course all he knows about Melanson is his first name was Roy so matthews called the sheriff's department and gave them a description of Michelle of her dog and of her Red Mazda wagon the last time he had seen her was outside of the Columbine bar she drove away with a man who the only numerous Roy and this really sounded bad this made the case sound a lot worse were here it should have been less seen with a man she really didn't know right she just met no one knew who roy was or afraid even his real name then the next day ranch called the sheriff's Department to report that he had shot and killed a dog on September fourth in his dog matched oak description he'd get the thanks caller which had a tag with shells name on it and other people called until the sheriff that they'd seen the dog wandering around in the area since August thirty first again bad news because Michelle and oak had been inseparable yes she's missing in her dog is dead so it's really looking like foul play frakes but a fora was contacted after Chuck Matthews told the police that Roy had told him he had been killing coyotes for a sheep rancher in Scholefield Park Spatafora told them that he had employed Roy and he knew his last name it was worry Melanson regarded her name mill food yeah yeah but of course Melanson had left the area he had arrived in Pueblo and Michelle's Mazda on August thirty first and he had spent the night with sally the fourteen year old and got one of her sisters to drive him to where he had parked the Mazda he told her that a friend had left it there for him to us so at this point I really have to question Sally's mother Lucille Burdens judgment here what the Hell's going on it's almost like she's prostituting her daughter you know well he's kind of staying at their house it's very weird and I don't know where the father was I know he was working it didn't ever come home and see what's going on it's really strange disturbing situation that's an understatement for this time though Melanson seemed to be doing much better financially than the last time the Burton girls had seen him he had new clothes new camping equipment and a really nice camera now salad use the camp took a picture of Melanson laying on the couch behind one of her friends yes oh what's this man doing in the House with these teenage girls laying on the couch it's also creepy Dick I just don't understand it we don't have any information or any any reasons why her mother true things the way she do now I mean what I've read about the case there was always just the idea that he was such a smooth talker in so convincing but to me nobody's that convincing that you're going to let him hang around your fourteen year old weird hat royals yeah Melanson didn't stay in Pueblo very long on September eighth in Cedar Falls Iowa when he was there he joined Michelle's camera backpack and sleeping bag than in elk city Iowa he made a guy named Thurman Wilder in a bar and the two started talking while they're told him that he was a heavy equipment raider looking for a job and Melanson told him that he had a friend in Pueblo who owned a construction company and he was sure that his friend would hire wilder I think he was just trying to get a ride there I guess he was always trying to get something from someone he was with the conman are always still have was in his white Cadillac and when they got to Amarillo Texas Melanson duck the Mazda and he ended up writing the rest of the trip with wilder in the Cadillac Hitt told wilder that his car needed repairs and he was taking it to shop and they'd pick it up on the way back then on September twelfth an anonymous caller are reported a suspicious white cadillac that was hanging around a high school and the Cadillac was pulled over and Melanson said that he and Wilder just waiting to pick up Sally Burton at school which is pretty creepy right there your suit is but when Nelson's driver's license was checked the police discovered that he was wanted for rape and Texas so both Melanson and wilder were arrested and wilder gave permission for his car to be searched and the these funds several different items belonging to Michelle Wallace in the Cadillac these things included her car registration her driver's license insurance discard and also some of her camping equipment so there's no explanation that he's going to be able to give for that wouldn't appear to be so melanson was searched police found his unused best ticket from gunnison to Pueblo and found Semis two keys and two point tickets sleeping bag in a backpack then one of the offices remembered the beyond the lookout for a red monster station wagon on by Michelle while so let's solve this crime didn't we well no not really into which is a long way to go with that the Pueblo detectives are pretty sharp they contacted gunnison and learned about the search for Michelle the Amarillo police found Michelle's car it was abandoned one block from a bar recalled the hard hat lounge now the car was searched but nothing was found that would have indicated foul play so nothing they give us evidence and nothing that would help them and find Michelle of course they interviewed Melanson and he finally did admit to spending time with the Burton's and having a relationship with the teenage Sally but he denied that he'd ever had sex with sally you know they would just hanging around 'cause they had so much in common together you're just good friends sure I'll grown men have fourteen year old girl says their friends interviewed sally she told him that she hadn't Melanson in July your family's cabin and she said that she did actually have sex with him so restores here I'm thinking I'm going to bully sally absolutely he had traumatized her quite a bit and so isn't the statutory rape yes should be but you know you're gonNA find here that he really gets away with a lot for long time it's really frustrating after extensive interviews Melanson insisted on speaking to the FBI and eventually he said that he did remember Eating Michelle he said he had a drink with her in a bar and she had left her dog tied up outside then he said he'd made up an excuse to borrow her car and she had led him so he just taken off in her car and it never seen her again not very believable story no bishop since he had all her things on his position Russian was stopped that anyway we'll we'll take a story so investigators suspected Nelson in Michelle's disappearance so in three other Texas rapes and Texas murder and then the police in Louisiana also wanted to question mallets about a series of murders in their state great so it looks like he's just done a lot of crimes that he's gotten away with Chuck Mathews was brought in and he was able to identify Melanson as the man Michelle's car when he last saw them after that detectives were convinced that they had Michelle's killer but without a body the prosecutor wouldn't charge him with murder so they were kind of step yeah I mean I know this is forty five years ago so things are different because we've done some cases where they've prosecute you didn't prosecuted successfully people with nobody well it certainly can be done but you need a lot of other evidence where it sounds like they got your amount the first thing you know you have to be able to prove the person's dad that's the first obstacle where you have to be able to maybe not prove but beyond a shadow of doubt so did now same thing to me or care so searchers though they continue to look on the ground and from the for Michele Maggie and George Wallace her parents held out hope that Michelle would be found alive of course but a new about Melanson story and they knew it was a lie she wouldn't have loaned her car to a stranger but unfortunately no evidence was found that Michelle had been killed or like I said even that she was dead Maggie she'd never see her daughter again that started to set in and she fell into a really deep depression she was crying every day and people said she just looked totally lost six weeks after Michelle had disappeared the Colorado detectives asks for her dental

"Stocks. Now radio hour with professional money managers, plural. Bill gunnison and Paul Carlson, and we had quite a day yesterday in the market today were having quite a day in the bond market. Once again with interest rates going down to two point zero nine percent today. Two point zero nine percent of we'll get to the reason why here in a minute. White is the bond market soaring again today. Especially after the stock market soared yesterday. They usually move in opposite directions. But there's a common theme here running through the market here today. We'll get to that just in a bit. Well here we'll get to it right now. The jobs report, okay. And of course, we do get the non-farm payroll report on Friday. But on Wednesday we always get the ADP that's automatic data processing payroll processing a good stock that's been around for a long time. They reported just twenty seven thousand jobs were created during the month of may the consensus was for one hundred seventy five thousand is that moving the bond market today. Paul, they're looking for a rate cut looking for a rate cut in does that raise recession fears. Again. That's why. And what did our friend Jerome Powell who I'm writing him in and my ballot for president? He's my hero. Jerome powell. He said yesterday if we even get a hint a whiff of a recession, we're going to do what? Cut rights. We're going to cut rates and that was the big that was the lighter fluid on the briquettes on the Dow, and the NASDAQ briquettes yesterday. Look, I lost my I all the hair on my eyelids, and the my arms when that flame when that fire just exploded yesterday in the market five hundred forty points when Jerome Powell that statement yesterday, man, and I will say this, you know, I don't think Joe Biden or Bernie Sanders or the others. You know, they've got a kind of rethink now they're message because it does not look like it'd be very unlikely that we head into the big presidential election with the recession going on in the US, because the fed is standing by with lighter fluid to keep stoking those economic fire. So Democrats probably going to have to change their message a little bit. Because Jerome Powell seems to have the back of the economy right now. You know what? I've got a daily blog now put up my first one yesterday on my website at gunnison capital dot com. When I was a kid growing up in San Diego. We had a big fishing area in point. Loma in San Diego Bay, where all the fishing boats, left from and they would leave about ten o'clock at night, come back about twenty four hours later go out about seventy or eighty miles and fish for tuna. And when they came back in, they would record their fishing report for the whole boat, boats, aggregate, and I called that fishing line every day life as a kid growing up. So I could track when the most optimal time was to spend the bucks to go out on that overnight trip and chase those tuna. Well, I think if you're in the market, you might wanna check bills daily, blah. Blog daily on the website, gunderman, capital dot com were cleaning up a little bit of the, the formatting. But the message is there. And that's one of the products of our new intern here spending the summer with this, Josh Smith. Good job, Josh. Getting that daily blog up and running, and he's also updated the Seattle trip Paul, and that is coming up in July twenty ninth, no thirtieth thirty first and August first threat. And that's a Tuesday Wednesday Thursday, no workshop, unless we just get a screaming demand. I'm just looking at meeting with folks this time around for three straight days. That's that's a job in and of itself. Believe me. If you liked to reserve a seat that information there is now up. Can they reserve right on the website? Now. Josh? Okay. Yes. And you can reserve a slot, which is about a one hour slot with with us. And you can either call eight five five six eleven best eight five five six eleven best, or you can go to the website and click on the Seattle link and you can reserve a spot to meet with us in Bellevue in Bellevue at the embassy suites hotel will yesterday. We had the best one day performance since January of this year in, you know, as I looked at our own portfolios here, gunnison capital. I commented at the end of the day, all my years of being in the business, I think that was the biggest one day jump that I've ever seen. We were up three point three percent yesterday. And, you know, I pretty much Paul called it. He says, I think we're due for a big bounce up. And I'm been saying that the that the fundamentals of the market support a higher price on the SNP five hundred and I kept reminding folks of what happened on Christmas day how fast things can bounce and you got to be there when that bounce happens. Unfortunately, I missed the Christmas date bounce but I also miss the christmasy bloodbath, too. So. Goes both ways there we did have the best one day performance since January, the NASDAQ was up two point seven percent yesterday. We were up three point three I want to say the S and P was up two point one percent yesterday. We actually had the bond market down a little bit yesterday. The ten year went up five basis points to two point one two, but looked at this back down today to two point zero nine and our bond fund. You're saying getting a nice jump here out of the gate today. Global Sears, they tacked on a little bit last night after the big rally on Wall Street, the emerging markets. So did not really participate as much as the US markets did. And of course, today, we're getting some follow through on yesterday's move, especially after this week. Jobs report. Why would a week's jobs report, make the market happy? Well, because Jerome Powell said, if we see a week economy we're standing by with a rate cut on a silver platter. And we got a week report today, ADP jobs up just. Twenty seven thousand in may I have a theory on that. I'm going to talk about that in a bit why the jobs creation had slowed down this month. But you're seeing a big jump in the bond market today, and the market tacking on somewhat. After the smallest jobs gain report since two thousand ten oh,.

"Two hours ago when the news was leaked on social media. Are you kidding me? My granny hell. Well, grammy. Hell is not a good example, because she doesn't have social media or a computer or even wifi or a phone or anything like that. But she would have hated it. If it was spoiled ahead of time. No, that's like knowing the ending of a sporting event before you watch it. There used to be a day when we do that, right? When all the results in all the play by play or posted on social media or when you didn't have your phone set up for alerts? That's my issue is that when there's big sporting events are big sports news that breaks. Well. My phone sends the alerts actually Phoebe exports sends me alerts. I feel like that's support for the company, though. But yeah. Used to be able to before. I was working network level. I kind of enjoyed that watching games without knowing now it says it really bothered me if I know the result, I still have to know how we got to the end result. The ends don't always justify the means. You know. And so it's just it's not fair. It's not fair, that jeopardy into invested over a month in James, hold sour in his run should find out how to time that he'd been upset by butter, Emma. Butcher 'em watcher. I didn't actually watch the episode. But I think it's so tantalizing that he finished a few dollars Cheyenne, Ken Jennings. All-time money record, poor guy. He walked away with only two point four million in change. He's very actually very gracious about very generous to with his compliments of her his, his nemesis, and also walked over and gave her a high five and themes, like I could be wrong to seem like I've seen the final sequence. Just have of his betting in final jeopardy, which he got. Right. But he didn't bet nearly as much money so he played a little safe when the pressure is on so James holds our era is no more jeopardy. But maybe you knew that, if you're on social media on Monday morning, you don't need me to tell you, it's after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS sports radio enjoyed spending the last couple of days with my niece and it's been fun even to play taxi driver. So on Sunday, I was driving all over the place. She had a concert, she was going to go to, oh, my gosh. It turned out to be just a total disaster, though, with the weather and the concert thinking there was going to be bad weather at this time and changing the schedule that it turned out to be bad weather, the second tire later evening, her the band that she wanted to see most desperately. It's her favorite band. They hardly ever play 'cause they've mostly broken up, and they've got side projects all over the place. They rarely ever come together to do is show in the US. And she was all excited about seeing them, and they Wade through these interminable delays, and the schedule's been condensed this big festival, and then the heavens, open up right about. At the moment at which her favorite band is supposed to go on stage and they make this announcement over the, the big video screen, and apparently, the, the thunder and lightning was coming, and she knowledge she gets soaked, but she was so upset over her her favorite artists being careful that she started to cry. So she's been telling all of us, I was crying in the rain by the time she walked, it was quite a walk of mile, plus in the pouring down rain and everything else she was so, so she was leading, but prince in my car. But you know what things we do for family. So that was Sunday. It was kind of a rough tape for her, and then she'd her boyfriend, they they're staying with me. And the he flipped for ten hours and she slept for probably nine they were zonked, but then on Monday, we did some sightseeing around New York City, which is worse. CBS sports radio hoard quarters are located and it was a really pretty day. And. She, she said it was a much better day than Sundays. I may be happy. But Harry am back. I did not miss daily Cup final game four because I wanted to see whether or not the blues could respond after the rash Chang. They took in game three we let's be honest. All the words that you could use the described game. Number three would be something along those lines thrashing. It was a bear thing. And it was their first stealing Cup final game in St Louis in nearly half century. And that was how they came out represented. Brutal. Now give the Bruins all the credit for the first time in his career. It's a short career got lots of promise though, and the first time in Jordan Benton's career. He's he's pulled out of the game early. Rhino riley. Was losing most of the face off that he was a part of and continued his goal Lewis games streak. That's very weird. Very odd to say goal less games streak off. I like it but his games without a goal. Got stretched out to eight so that it was really fitting as I was watching game number four that it's those two guys who really have been the MVP's of this rags to riches story. It's those two guys O'Reilly and Bennington who really sparked their bounceback performance and so take it personally decide. Hey I was a big reason why we lost in game. Number three. I was big reason why we got embarrassed in game number three. So I better be the reason why we bounce back in game number four. Dick, candles, veneer wing of the blue line puts ranch a little over two done on. The rebound. Did around a highness gain of Putin arrest alone. Man in Josh is middle. Transload too. Garl- gunnison on the ice. Now Tranquillo with time wires the shot on the. We're eleven thought tonight like we didn't we didn't stop for sixty minutes. That's how I look at the game. I think, you know, the guys were just count them pox on pucks and, and work and reload and doing all the little things, right. Line changes are great. You know, getting fresh people out there pretty good game all around. Craig Berube e uses the word relentless. We've heard another our word resilient about this Saint Louis blues team. And I think the relentless part was evident in the number of puck stay Poundstone that were rebounds. There's another our word. I in fact, both of Ryan o'reilly's. Oh my gosh. I hope the rhino Riley's goals were on rebounds. They were on second chance opportunities. I say this about basketball the time but I feel the same way with a hockey. Now, the goalie can cover up and hockey. Right. So you have that option. But both Bennington into garage. We're giving up a lottery. The coaches noted it afterward. Words and made for kind of some crazy scary heart pounding moments depending on your perspective in this game. And so the fact that the blues were there, ready to pounce, in that O'Reilly was ready to pounce on these offense of rebounds, quote, unquote, and the second chance points. That's huge for him to be able to score twice. Both on rebounds was I thought an indicator of how relentless they were after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS sports radio. So not only did you have the blues coming back to even the series winning their first ever Stanley Cup final game at home member they'd never wanted Stanley Cup final game until number two in Boston. But now they finally got one at home and the place was insane. Really exciting to talk to Chris Kerber, actually who's the voice of the blues. They're on their radio network into get his perspective from inside the arena. But also from inside the city of Saint Louis, which very often painted as a cardinals town, they they're very intelligent passionate fans about their baseball, and he made quite a case for being not just cardinal red, but blues blue. Every time I say that I think blues clue, which is not really something we'd be talking about on the show. So, so it's not it's a split town. So then I asked him, you have to go back and listen to his answer. I asked him whether or not Saint Louis boards fans are over the Rams and his thought his answer was really good it at a little bit edge to a little bit of intensity. Still we can forget, but we do not get was kind of message, but useless into that conversation with Chris, that is on our podcast after hours Amy Lawrence dot com. So for the Bruins right, they don't have the home ice advantage. Well, they, they do they got it back and gave number three. The blues themselves try to make this make this as as difficult as possible. But the, the idea though, that now going back to Boston that pivotal crucial critical game five I mean, the resiliency and, and the, the that relentless. Sixty minute nonstop. Like balls to the wall. They've got to bring that sense of urgency in game number five as well. But they did win and Boston in game two so like back and forth back and forth, which is cool, the ebbs and flows. Now best of three, you know, me, I'm always about the game sevens. But, but here's something to keep in mind for the Bruins. So already down one defense Matt like but how 'bout is it? Ain't no char, only their captain. And I know that there have been gains in the postseason where the teams trying to give him off right? I mean they'd played so well that had so much momentum one what eight games in a row. And so there were trying to give him time off nights off nights in which he wasn't absorbing nearly as many minutes, but you certainly don't want to not have the option of the day. No charge. Not to mention being already down when it comes to your blue liners. So he takes puck to the fake ace and there's blood on the ice. Didn't really get a report about what repairs had to be done, what damage was done. He insisted on being on the bench after he'd come out of locker initially but he got hurt early second period. And lease was out there with his teammates kind of greeting them as they came off the ice, which I thought was really impressive as a captain, whose probably swollen and in pain, who knows that the noise is bothering him just residents, even might make you hurt. And yet he's out there who knows if he has all his teeth. He's out there and he's greeting the guys when they come off the ice. And trying to be a captain, trying to be a leader, despite his pain. But if he ends up missing game number five now, you're talking about an even more depleted group of defenders for the Bruins, and they were worn out at the end of the game. You could tell that they're worn out. In fact, the blues were talking about the fact that them being so relentless and really being aggressive, and attacking was taking a major toll on the Bruins, and especially in that third. Period. Even before they scored the go ahead goal before rhino Riley did on his second rebound there, even before that point, you could see the fatigue with the Bruins. So you're down a couple of men and now it's starting to show. And so the Bruins had a really hard time getting it out of their zone. Getting the puck outta their zone. And the blue seem to feed off of that it was almost like knowing the weakness in your opponent. Right. What every single net nature show. Animals show, National Geographic show you ever watch has got the predators. Trying to isolate the weak link isolate and separate that week link, and that's kind of what that third period felt like is the blues are really preying on the Bruins, and they're weak link, which is having a couple of defense out and they just looked exhausted. And so we'll see what changes in game number five. And whether or not they know charge is going to be able to play. It's obviously a would be a huge loss for the Bruins. All right. You can find me on Twitter, Ehlo radio or asking you. It's our Twitter Tuesday question, I don't really know of Roger Goodell is being genuine or not. I mean I tend to be fairly cynical about what we hear from the NFL now. I learned my lesson the hard way. But he's saying four preseason games too many because our top priority of quality..

"Bill gunnison, president of Garson capital management spending the week. Oh, it's a, a working vacation. I would say, I'll go, I haven't not even one hour off since I arrived here Monday evening. Let me get rid of that, doggone those guys up tell you what. Anyways, we're broadcasting one last day here from Sarasota. No. I'll be broadcasting from serve soda again tomorrow. We had a very nice workshop last night. Full house, and my calendar has been full the whole time. I'm here now you didn't weren't able to meet with us this time around will be back six to eight weeks somewhere in that timeframe will be down here again. We'll becoming on a regular basis now that I'm based out of Charleston, South Carolina. We'll be coming down here on a regular basis. So if you'd like to book an appointment for the next time were here, which will be somewhere about six to eight weeks from now. Call eighty at eight five five six eleven best eight five five six eleven best or go to Garson capital dot com to request an appointment with Bill and Paul further neck. Visit down here to Sarasota. Well, this is the third straight day of really good action in the market since that six hundred point drubbing on Monday. That is a thing of the past right now. And obviously that was a very good buying opportunity on Monday. If you were to step up to the plate and have bought some of these best stocks now because the last three days of been sensational in the market yesterday. It was basically President Trump extending the deadline for those tariffs on European cars that got the market going today. We have Treasury Secretary Mnuchin saying that the US is close to resolving a dispute with Canada and Mexico regarding tariffs on aluminum and steel, and that is all giving a boost to the market today. In addition to that. And as I emphasized last night, at my workshop the market is all about. The biggie not Elvin Hayes, the former basketball player for the for the Houston team there. But the earnings big equation. E A, R N, I N G S earnings earnings, earnings capitalized, bold, faced exclamation points, just like real estate is location. Location location. The stock market is earnings earnings earnings and another reason that this market is in rally mode, once again, this morning for the third day in a row is because of earnings and having said that why this market has been going up for the last ten years earnings earnings earnings earnings so that to me, there's all these indicator. Tres in the market. There's moving average crossovers people. Ask me build the use Bollinger bands. Do you use MAC? These do you use moving average crossovers. Do you use different types of technical indicators Banacci numbers? And it comes down to the big best indicator in the market of all four the overall market, and for individual stocks earnings, and I pointed out the chart, the graph of earnings over the last ten years for the s&p five hundred and more importantly, I pointed out, the, the, the chart going forward for earnings expectations because not only does the market look to earnings, but it also looks to earnings expectations and what the those expectations are down the road biggest driver that is the biggest driver between. Movement in stocks and movement in stock indexes. We had a real good day in the NASDAQ yesterday. I think Google was up more than four percent. Facebook was up more than three percent. In fact, the NASDAQ yesterday was up more than one point three percent overall, the S and P was up eight tenths of one percent. Big day for the NASDAQ yesterday. The Dow was only up seven tenths of a percent yesterday. And once again, today, the NASDAQ is having a very good day. Why does the NASDAQ have such good days? Well, where do you think you find most of the earnings growth out there, which sectors, you're not going to find consistent earnings in the energy patch? You're not going to find consistent earnings and consumer Staples like Proctor and gamble and Coca-Cola. They're great companies. They've been around for a long time. But the earnings growth. Has slowed down to low single digits, that in some cases, it's flipped to negative earnings growth, and you're still going to continue to find the bigger Ning growth. The biggest earnings growth, mostly concentrated. In the technology sector. We've had a little bit of a rally in treasuries this week, although it's giving back some of that rally here today, the two year treasury got his lowest two point one four yesterday that's its lowest level in over eighteen months, and the tenure got clear down to two point three six yesterday. But having said that, that's still a pretty good gap. That's a twenty two basis gap between the two year in the tenure. So we're not seeing a bond market that right now is predicting a recession anytime soon now the shorter term yield curve, the three month and the tenure that. Did in Vert a little bit. Yesterday or the day before that, and it's still trading at about par right now. But the more important to year and tenure you've got a twenty two point basis point gap in between. And even though you hear a lot of economists and a lot of market pundits talking recession. We heard Jeffrey gun lack yesterday, talking about the high percentage of a recession. Well, he's an outlier and not an outright liar. An outlier the bond market is saying, otherwise right now. Well, we have a big punch to China's Weiwei technologies and that is rippling through the semiconductor sector today, and it's another shot fired by President Trump at China in the ongoing trade war, wall way, one of their biggest technology companies not only is the CFO of wall way still being held in Canada. But now wall way products are banned from the US. So we'll see if that hastens or turns up the heat here on getting a deal with China. When we come back. We'll talk about some individual stocks this Bill. Anderson is the best docs, now radio hour. Are you a die?.

Don't see every crawl sit on the bench. Of course he came into the game banged up. And you know some of his play lead to two of the three blues goals Pete divorce for the second straight game has shuffled up all the lines. He's put them in the blender he says, and the crowd. "Here is Bill gunnison. Ninety seven and you'll see it in the bond market where the bond ten years down to two point four one percent. So welcome to the best stocks now radio our professional money manager Bill gunnison in the passenger seat of a tesla. Southbound for Sarasota in the driver seat, Paul Carlson. He's not Mike, but we'll get his comments here on this crazy day in the market no way to start a new week. But trade war is that the taking center stage in the market once again today. Now, we go back to last week. Let's go back to Friday. Just for a moment. We were down about four hundred and twenty five points on Friday at one point in time. And we actually finished up a hundred and ten. Point. So it just depends on what is said during the course of the day. Trump tweets, obviously comments from Mnuchin comments from white Heiser comments from the team that goes dating with China. But right now, we're at the the low of the day in the market. But it's all about the close. We've also I'm sure I haven't verified this. But I gotta believe we have an inverted yield curve your this morning when you compare the two months or the three months with the ten year. I gotta believe that with that draw in the tenure today. Two point four one percent. We're probably back to an inverted yield curve on that one yields not the long one that do the town as a society, we had nineteen basis points spreads there. But on the three months. Hellyer Willie at two basis points spread on Friday. And I gotta believe that that has inverted here today. Well, like, I said it's all about the close on Friday. We were down four hundred twenty four points at one point in time. We ended up a hundred and ten but right now, we are at the lows of the day to start a new week here in may Trump warned President Trump warned China that didn't do much did it had very little effect as they came with a sixty billion dollar retaliation twenty five percent tariffs on two thousand nine hundred and forty US goods. Sixty billion dollars worth of US. Good will now have a twenty five percent tariff place on them. And that of course is really spooking the markets. You're today. The question is what impact will this have on the US economy? First of all on the trade wars will the two sides start to move back towards each other will it escalate from here right now, we are in esscalation mode on the other hand. What impact would this out on SSD five hundred earnings were are those earnings right now. What impact will it have on US GDP where is US GDP overall right now, I will say this that since two thousand and nine selloffs in the market every single time for the last and years have been buying opportunities that I have to ask myself at this point in time in this particular round of oil this particular sell off, why would this be any different? Why would this not be a pullback within a primary trend? I cannot see in the reason. And why I would say that you know, you got a big election sixteen months from bell. I don't think Donald Trump being the politician that he is or non-politician that he is is going to tank the economy, sixteen months before the election. We know what an important role that the economy plays in an election. And maybe he's using this opportunity with sixteen months out and our economy in pretty good shape to try to get a more even playing field with China. But as you can see China is playing hard ball. Maybe the two sides will start to come together. Here this week. We'll just have to see they certainly did not come together towards the end of last week. In fact, it seems as if when the Chinese got on the plane and we're leaving Washington. They did not look very optimistic. I didn't see an optimistic look on their faces. So what would I say to those that are invested in the market right now. Well, you have to go through each and every position, you know, we did. So almost all of our bowling a couple of weeks ago. I didn't like the way that Boeing was trading. And I think Boeing is dead money for now other stocks as recently as Friday, we're still holding up very well the service now at work days of the world, but you just have to take it on a stock by stock basis. That I would also say this, you know, over the last ten years, how many of these pullbacks in the market have we had and if you don't have the stomach or the constitution to ride through these little pullbacks, which so far that's all this. Then maybe you don't belong in the market. You know, I hate to sound harsh, but the SNP has gone from six hundred sixty two three thousand all those some six hundred sixty let's call it twenty nine hundred over the last ten years, and if you didn't have the constitution or the stomach it over the last ten years to ride through he twenties little pullbacks of we saw the market caused by one reason or another you would have missed out on this big bull market much of it. So that's another question folks have to ask you their selves is whether or not they have the constitution the risk tolerance to ride through the ups and downs if the market. Because there's plenty of them. I've been in the market now for over two decades. Paul Carlson's been in it for over three decades. We'd seen numerous numerous two three four five even ten percent. Even of recent twenty percent hole in the market yet. The market has gone onto new all time highs each and every time especially over the last ten years. Now, I'm not saying that this bull market will not come to an end at some point. But I feel very strongly right now. This is not the nail in the coffin of the of the bull market that began back in two thousand nine I just can't see that happening with an upcoming election. And of course, certain stocks are more in the way of these terrorists than other stocks are some stacks are unaffected by it. But when the market sells off. It pretty much takes no prisoners everything in the market will sell off the bond market. However is up today. And you know, as I said over the weekend, and my newsletter the last couple of weeks, we have developed as we look out there on the horizon at some point there will.

Night at six thirty pm of already checked the room. Nice hotel nice facility point. I'm used to stay at the motel five this is beautiful here. It will be doing a workshop tonight at six thirty pm looks like there's plenty of parking here. You don't have to worry about that. I don't know about the traffic getting here and all that. But look I've got a lot to say tonight six thirty. He m. I am at the Hilton conference center by the lake you know, what it's not like right on the lake I can see through binoculars. But there is a lake back there somewhere we are at the Hilton in the grapevine area. Remember, I said that you heard it through the grapevine I have six hundred and thirty five b plus or Vetter stocks today in my best stocks now app. This continues to be a very healthy market isn't too healthy. Well, maybe just a little bit, but we had some huge technical breakouts. Here recently in the Dow and the s&p five hundred in the NASDAQ. I hope you follow along in my newsletter every week because I do technical analysis on all the major asset classes weekly that is part of a. In house research that I do for myself, but I share it with you in my news letter every Saturday, go to Garson, capital dot com. Well, we had a little bit of a rally yesterday, and then it fell flat. In fact, we had about a three day move going win streak going until Walgreens boots alliance. Put a dent into that. Walgreens, boots alliance is a member of the Dow Jones industrial average. Let's just see how it's treating the Dow today, but it did get Pitt. Yes. Down another eight cents today. Let's see how Boeing's doing today. Member of the Dow, okay. Boeing probably dragging the Dow down a little bit bowing down one percent this morning yesterday. Maybe we had a little bit of a consolidation in the recent move up that we've had today is a big day in the U S, China trade talks, boy, I'll tell you. They've even got people reading the body language of the participants as they enter the the Powell room the Powell tent where they're going over supposedly final details of a memorandum of understanding. Well, they are also trying to figure out how to enforce it because China has been known to not exactly live up to bargains. It's made in the past. So that is a big sticking point that the that the US particularly has to get past past is how do we enforce these new rules in U S, China trade? Well, the global markets pretty optimistic that something's going to come from this this week. Of course, they're back on our home turf today. Japan was up one percent overnight Hong Kong up one point two percent. China up one point two percent and even Europe kicking in with a three quarter of a percent rise. In advance of the Powell today. US Trade Representative Robert lighthizer. He's the big guy. He's like one below Trump in these negotiations and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, he's the guy that signs your dollar bills. They're set to resume trade talks today, which I need vice president Lu he and global equities are rallying in response to positive statements surrounding the discussion someone even gave a a smile at a wave one of the sternest trade Representative from China turned and smiled and waved to one of the members of the media, and he took that to mean. Deal is close American and Chinese officials are said to have negotiated ninety percent of the deal that last percent. Let me tell you. I've had to negotiate some deals in the past. It's that last ten percent. That's really the stickler. They're still haggling over how to implement and inforce such and agreement. Well, we'll see what comes out of this today. Tomorrow and Friday, we got the ADP jobs numbers. They were worse than expected. But right now, I would say that bad news is good news because that holds the fed at bay. But on the other hand, we don't want to see a sinking economy economy sinking towards recession. According to ADP. And of course, Friday, we get the official numbers from the government with the the monthly nonfarm payrolls report, the ADP numbers one hundred twenty nine thousand versus one hundred sixty five thousand expected so we come up a little bit short thirty six thousand short of the number that was expected for job creation that according to a the Stockton. I own my income and growth portfolio. Well, that could hold the fed at bay the bond market is mostly yawning at the numbers. The ten year treasury is still holding onto a four basis point gain for the day. It's up to two point five two now. And of course, we know what we were cleared down at two point three seven last week two point three seven were. Fifteen basis points. I hope you locked your loan last week and wait till this week member. I told you lock that loan now baby got some low interest rates out there. The government's nonfarm payroll report for March is due on Friday. Well, what would closing the board or do to the economy? Well, the price of Mexico City Haas avocados, by the way, they're the best..

If you're in the neighborhood stop on by. Well, there may be a preliminary agreement between us and China. A memorandum of understanding. Okay. All right. I've seen a few of those memorandums of understanding. Well, that's where we're at right now that is helping the market here. A lot this morning, especially the Dow especially those multinationals that have been really rocked by all of this China tariff trade spat news off and on over the last year. I think has been almost a year now since President Trump started this all well, there's not much inflation going on in China. You might think well, that's a good thing. But it's showing that their their consumer price index rose that the weakest pace in a year, and the figure suggests that China will struggle to reverse last year's broader economic slowdown which was the worst in a decade. So what a Donald Trump due to China? Well, their biggest slow down economic slowdown. In over ten years. And now we're in almost beginning year two of that trade war, but we may have we did have a truce that is good for two more weeks. So white flag a cease-fire, no more. Escalating, no more upping, the ante Alcee York Arifin raise you buy do tariffs. No more of that business going on a memorandum of understanding something out of wording like that. And that's got the market all excited. Hot and bothered here today, we'll see whether or not it can last. We had kind of a weekday yesterday in the market. Just kind of hugging. That flat line has all of this going on in the background. In fact, China was down one point four percent. Overnight Hong Kong was down one point nine percent. And of course, here in the US everything was love. Yesterday on Valentine's Day until the retail sales report came out yesterday morning before the market opened and the positive futures went flat. And then quite a bit down with a very soft retail sales report. And the Dow was also lead downwards by Coca Cola. It's was down seven percent today. Flat earnings and sales that continue to shrink at Coca Cola, and they had guidance that was very prudent very cautious for two thousand and nineteen Coca-Cola CEO James Quincy, blaming the global slowdown. Well, you know, I kind of think maybe the world saturated in coke, and it's getting harder and harder and harder and harder to find new markets, and it's harder and harder and harder to grow existing markets. There's a lot of. Small type of craft sodas out there. Now, there's just a lot of competition in that space, and it continues to pinch the pride of Atlanta KO Gocha cold all they're not knocked out there still a multibillion dollar company, but the stock was down seven percent yesterday. Well today, we have Pepsi they're big nemesis. Their big competitor kinda like Lowe's and Home Depot one on one quarter one on the other quarter staring each other down Pepsi's doing varying a little bit better today. Pepsi is up two point eight percent. Today. You know, what I would say about Pepsi versus Coca Cola Pepsi did diversify quite a bit when they bought frito lay. That's a good thing. You know, give the folks a lot of salty convenient snacks, get them thirsty. And you gotta wash it down with a cold, Pepsi. Pepsi's earnings were up fourteen percent year over year, but sales are grinding to a halt growth in sales growth in sales zero percent. They sold nineteen point five billion dollars worth of Pepsi this quarter last year and this year, they sold. Exactly the same nineteen point five. There's just not any growth what's the dividend yield on Pepsi? Well, you're going to get a three point two percent. Dividend yield are headquartered in New York. Until I don't know. We'll all he'll Cortez force them out of New York those greedy corporate money grubbing, Pepsi Cola hundred sixty two billion dollars in market capitalisation. But you know, what I'm not in favor of non growth companies, what drives capital appreciation growth in earnings. You always have to keep growing as a company well with Pepsi and Coca Cola. You know, it's very difficult. You just can't do it. You get so big. I mean, WalMart has the same problem were you going to put a new WalMart? You've got one everywhere. Disturbed potent walmarts in China. I guess Invidia beats earnings by seventeen cents. Now. Nvidia I been talking about that this week that is a stock. That is highly watch it's got a big following. Their earnings did beat by seventeen cents they missed on revenues. However, I do not own in video, you know, the stock recently was cut in half. And then some in about a three month period of time. And if you think it's a good bye right now. Well, they beat earnings pretty handily in the stock is only up two percent right now get this their earnings that they just reported. They beat earnings, but their earnings are down fifty three percent from the same quarter last year when crypto currency and bitcoin mining was a booming business not anymore earnings down fifty three percent at Invidia sales down twenty four percent and Invidia. And by the time this year is over analysts are looking for a twenty percent drop in NVIDIA, do stocks followed. Earnings well in video was two hundred ninety two in late September. And it's now one hundred and fifty eight. Earnings down. Fifty three percent stock down about the same. Okay. Very very tight correlation between earnings growth or the shrinkage thereof and stock price appreciation or stock price depression, which side of the street. Do you want to.
