Los Angeles Lakers Pair LeBron and Russ. Will It Work?

"I wanted to zoom out and go over the big picture landscape with someone who talks on our airwaves every day about the nba. Dhs is favourite league. I think the one. And only the greatest showman in show business and tv for espn stephen smith. Our you sub man. How you doing man glad to finally be here. I'm thrilled to make it happen. You are out in la. So let's start there you talked. I was listening to you on. I take a few days ago. Talking about russell. Westbrook in the amount of pressure that's on russell westbrook. But tell me about you know how. How do you think he fits. Lebron how what are you looking for him. How does he have to changes game or does he have to change his game. Well listen. I think i think both have to modify to some degree. Lebron can't be as ball dominant as as he has been off making all the decisions. Because that's one of the reasons rusting wanna be in houston anymore as you. Well know Because he didn't want to be you know sitting on the sidelines. Playing the role of spectator being on the plane and roller spectator watching james audit. Well that's not gonna change lebron james. He's happy to be back home. He's happy to be la. He's happy to be on a title contender which he is on. We get all of that But in the end he still russell westbrook in you know credit to him. You know like. I told you we've had to be. We've all had to be critical of him at times. What we know that. He's an electrifying talent. The most athletic point guard we've ever seen in nba history. We know he's a walk in triple double and we also know. He never cheat to game with his effort when he's out on a court it's always one hundred percent and so when you look at the slow. Almost snail like pace that the lakers could could. Could you know what wouldn't prone to plan towards playing at at tom's in the past and now you've got somebody like russell westbrook all of a sudden and lebron having a night off. Ad having a night off isn't as daunting as it was the previous two years. I think that helps them during the regular season. And then i think once the postseason comes whatever it takes to win is what i think the character in russell westbrook and lebron james will do.

NBA Rumors: Pelicans Plan to Hire Former Sixer Willie Green as Head Coach

"Head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans. So David Griffin has his next man to lead Zion Williamson. Last year. It was Stan Van Gundy the year before that it was Alvin Gentry. It's just now going to be the third head coach that Zion Williamson is going to have his third year in the league. Now, when you look at Willie Green Clearly has an extensive basketball background was in Philly, the Hornets in New Orleans. Atlanta. Play with the Clippers was with Orlando as a player the last few years, though, because just because you're a former player doesn't mean that you're going to be a great coach. You want to see what experience? Yes. Sometimes guys have a lot of experience. Sometimes guys have no experience. Willie Green was on the Golden State Warriors staff 2016 2019. And Is on the sun staff, too. Currently So this is someone That has been around the league now for a while. And Yeah. I don't know how

Ball brothers Lonzo, LaMelo set to square off in NBA matchup

"We're talking about lonzo in the last segment. A little bit and brandon ingram coups mud cetera. But the whole point was that lamelo alonzo are playing. And you don't have a lot of brothers playing against each other. We know the wilkins brothers Played against each other. Obviously the soul brothers have played against each other so this is just another installation of that particular kind of cool fund rivalry that the nba tends to have but we you know we talked a lot about lonzo. What do you think of the mellows. Ceiling is wow. That's a great question Ever since i first saw him like what was it like three years ago now watching plane. Aau it was obvious he was really talented offensive player. So i would say. His silly is attached to his defense. Okay you know. The more he improved bronco on defense to hire his silly goes because even though i think he's a really talented offensive. Play at the reality is. There's not a whole lot of dudes who play his position in the back court. That can't get you them buckets. Right what else you got. And we're waiting to see him. Show us the other aspects of it tastes him from being a talented young player to someone who may be able to lead a team to a french tour championship. So at this point It's a wait and see i need to. I need to spend a liberal time playing ball getting better getting stronger. Before i can tell you where i think is ceiling is going to go because i need to see how strong and how defensive he's going to become yet. Defensively is a big problem. I think big problem right now but it's a big problem for young players especially rookies week or so. You know. it's time for all of them. So i'm not going to hold them to this. But after two seasons if dudes are still blown by him because he's too busy trying to leak out get buckets. Then we know what that is. Yeah look here's ofensive skill set. His passing is ridiculous. Like we already know that that very early on do you think. He has a higher ceiling than lonzo though no not inherently so right well of course. There's always a good defender. There's no question about really answer. Really good rebounder right. And he's equally as good as a passer. So you're asking yourself. We'll lonzo's offense developed faster than lamelo defense. Because that's gap right. There will lonzo's offense develop than I would say lonzo's offenses rounding to form much much better. These last eight months or whatever lamelo defense defense takes a while i feel like guy sometimes go years before they learn to play real. Good defense is that fair or it depends on the coach that should never have conversations with Jj radic over the years and bright before he was drafted. He and i were joking. I was like dude. I love you to be in phoenix. House wins nash. And amari and those guys were rolling. Sounds like do you just be straight buckets. Any overstaying strengthen gundy and you needed to lay defense to play. I needed to pay exactly to play defense for stand right and it was because of that. He's still in the league. I don't know if he was still being the league. If it wasn't for stan forced him to know how to play good defense and he did. He became a very capable defender Even though he's small right even though he you know he he's he's not he's strong for size but he's not like some overwhelming You know person when it comes to his strength but he's really smart. He plays the angles while he plays team defense. Because you're you're right. You're right

LEVEL UP: This Life Coach Says Now's the Time to Level Up

"Thought work an action and breaking through limiting beliefs. When in your own life have you leveled up the biggest level up from he was having twins that will the big level. That's what taught me. Oh i can do anything if i can do this. I had my first daughter. My husband had been married for five years and then we tried to have a second child. And i was over thirty five. And we ended up using some fertility treatments. We didn't earn nation. Which is just an and i ended up pregnant with twins and it was shocking. Even though when you're doing facility treatments that's a possibility but it was still shocking because surviving with them right bringing them home and and at this point i also had a business which felt like another baby. I was already running my coaching practice. And i have like seven clients. I was working with. And i was doing contract work. Having to put all that on hold for a while just to kind of survive and keep them thriving and get get a lot of help and shift my mindset. I really had to expand into this next level of growth in order to see my life in any way because now we went from a family of three to a family by one of the things. That really helped me. I completely changed my relationship with time. All of a sudden the value of something like fifteen minutes was so high for me. It was worth so much to get fifteen minutes to take a shower. Was like so valuable for me so that was one of the first things that changes. I started to look at time from this new perspective of. Oh how every minute of my life is so valuable because either. I'm taking care of a kid or i've got to be producing results in my business or in work so that was one experience of leveling up. Another one is really taking my business to the next level. I said okay. I'm gonna make six figures. I'm gonna make six figures and more and it was just a decision i made in my mind of. I'm done playing small in this world of coaching. I know i can do better. And now i have a family three you know and we had bought a new house so this was the time to kind of say. I need to play a bigger game. The universe is calling me up for big game. And that's how sometimes it feels. It doesn't always come just from you. It comes from like the universe telling you like a little whispered then keeps coming up over and over again. You're met for something more meant to play a bigger game. You're meant to do more and win. That voice was in my ear. I was like you know what i am meant to do. More and i'm going to grow this business. And i'm going to take it to the next level and so i left some of my contract work. So i consciously made a decision to shift and consciously made a decision to focus my attention and really grow into. You know the six figure coach than i am. Now you all know. I did not grow up speaking spanish. My husband did and it's really important to us that our girls have exposure to the language when i interviewed susie had a meal. The creator of gundy. How Will Stan Van Gundy Fit With the Pelicans?

"Was a few weeks ago in the ringer NBA show that at the very tail end of the show I recall you saying. Keep an eye out for Stan van Gundy and New Orleans and since we last spoke That came to fruition Stan Van Gundy was hired by David Griffin and the New Orleans Pelicans I think when this all started with the pelicans ouster of Alvin gentry. Through the. Face Tyler had a former relationship with David. Griffin, we talk about my Tony possibly because he had a former relationship via the Phoenix Suns with David Griffin but they do land on Stan van, Gundy as their next head coach when you saw that news come across the wire, would you think great I'm happy I think he could bring some accountability to the team in terms of how much they need it on the defensive end of the floor they were horrific. On defense this season in San Andy. Of course, infamously famously I'm not sure once said build an effing wall and that the Pelicans need to do and I look forward to see what he can do now that he's back in the NBA but by the way like he failed in Detroit because he was coach. Angie 'em now he's just a coach right and he was always a good coach. He was good basketball coach and it was one of those cautionary tales of. It is two different skill sets number one it also in many cases can be two different motivations right if I am if I am the general manager and the coach now let's say I make a poor signing or a poor usage of money will sometimes I may want to use that guy to prove that I was right about this guy right and I know that you Still get into that with with a front offices and coaches anyway, right in in everybody wants to be responsible everybody wants to be right about the move they made. But when you then you're not doing the scouting of every other team on a regular basis, I know you have scouts you're certainly not doing that with college, but it's just a very hard job to do twofold and. Another cautionary tale of taking that over I mean everybody wants that power but I think we've seen two of these guys. Now fact three of these guys. Now, all of which I think you would say were subpar to very below average in that role but. We respect them as guys that are on the sidelines as basketball coaches. That is their expertise in that is doc rivers who took on that role Tom Thibodeau who took on that role and Stan Van Gundy who took on that role and yet got hired as coaches though it didn't go well at their last stops. I mean doc better than the other two but we thought. Hires because these guys are good basketball coaches who were miscast trying to run everything for sure absolutely and ultimately it's another good opportunity for him when New Orleans area there even though they have Zion, they have ingram granted these a restricted free agent. He'll likely back matched any offer sheet or whatever This is still sort of A. Team right now that can go in many different directions depending on how David Griffin wants to build it out and I look forward to seeing the ways in which Van Gundy, Utilize Zion and the ways in which he tries to get him going off because remember you know before all the three point shooting, we've seen the last ten years or so that has. Exploded with the warriors and the rockets and all these teams shooting lot of threes, the magic, Dwight Howard at center and four shooters around him in the late two thousands with anti head coach and they went to a finals. We're going to be lost to Kobe and the Lakers The had some good run they some really strong teams and in with Williamson. With the New Orleans Pelicans, I know they want to add another they don't want to go like all small Wall. With Zion at the five all the time it's it's just went to work but I, think van Gundy's pasts and what he could do now with this roster, it's kind of exciting to think about the possibilities with the different ways in which they can use ion but most importantly though and again, this is like with all the coaching hires we talk about I am more interested in the personnel changes who they draft, who do they try to trade for? Who Do they try to sign I am WHO's coaching the team, but you know I'm excited to see if they're able to get. Zion, going and creative ways that they weren't able to do as much during the season despite his success he posted up a lot man I. WanNa see some more pick and roll with Zion I wanNA see some more creativity with him, handling the ball and running pick and roll, and that will largely come from other personnel changes that come to the roster that allow that to happen. But Hey, man SVG had success with some different types of teams in the past and I look forward to seeing what he can do here with him, and that team has a good roster they under performed badly. Made sometimes teams underperformed because you look at their roster and you go man aol have the goods like that team underperformed I. Think so too. I think of course it I mean look I mean Lonzo I think Lonzo hit one shot in the bubble well, even though they're young that defense was bad even though they had good individual defenders, they've jrue holiday one of the best perimeter guard defenders, Ingraham and Lonzo. They were good defenders of the Lakers. They were the last two years. They were good. They were not good defenders last season with New Orleans. And Zion I, mean he was horrific. He was so bad on defense. It was it was really sad to watch. This is the guy who is blocking three point shots closing out from the opposite side of the paint at Duke just a year prior, which is why people wonder how much of it was fatigue coming back but season how much of it was the injury limiting him how much of it was effort I? Don't know I don't know what it was but regardless. He stunk on defense, and all of this needs to change next season for this team to be anything that have any chance of actually getting into the playoffs it can't be all

Mark Jackson is the reason why Mark Jackson isn’t an NBA head coach

"Joe. Lake. Up after mark was let go had a bunch of quotes This was one of them that I found co part of it was that he couldn't get along with anybody else in the organization and look you did a great job. I'll always compliment him mini respects but you. Can't have two hundred people in the organization, not like you. Okay. and he said when I say the organizations whole I don't just mean the team just fifteen players that are involved in the coaching staff I mean everybody there's two hundred employees here. So we look at the organization going forward and the kind of coach we want and not just the performance everything else all these factors matter. We took all of that into account. So we have the player part of it. We have the owner part of it. We knew the front office didn't like him when one of the assistance. was busted for recording Jackson in meetings to play for the front office, which again that actually becomes a pro mark Jackson part of it. The Mark Jackson staff was not good enough the ownership in front office told him repeatedly, the staff is good. Enough Mark said we have the best staff going he and scalping apparently got into it and scalloping he was reassigned the front office didn't like that part of it. So we have the players have the staff we have the ownership we have the front office. Let's also talk about some of the other stuff that's just let's face it. Weird Jackson's Amana Faith I. Don't question anyone's faith. I just say to you leave me alone and I'll do my thing That's the way I've always operated and that rubs people wrong way when he was a head coach but also would find time to get to La whenever he had a convenient off day to go and do that. It's tough to tell a man of faith. Hey, you know what don't be that interested in God? That's that's an almost impossible conversation but if I was at ESPN or anywhere and said, Hey, you know what? I can't watch football this weekend. Because I have this higher calling eventually it worked they'd be like, Hey, you know what? Man Like this is all part of the job being availalbe around is very difficult in tough thing to navigate as I'm not even hundred percent comfortable doing it but I'd have to say employer at the time being frustrated by it actually makes a little bit of sense and I think there's other things that just bumped people out when curry had his ankle issues he was brought up in it was kind of a playful thing curry's brought up they put the holy oil on his ankle and. Jackson's wife at the time and Pete Jackson was like look like he had chronic ankle problems and now he doesn't. So you figure it out. That's one of those things where people like wait what Jackson also had some issues off the core where he was caught up extortion deal and I'm not even really getting on his case for that because I think a lot of things happen to people that are public figures that goes on normal people's lives. But the public figure becomes the of jokes on and on and on. He also said when asked about Jason Collins availability years ago. He said not in my locker room. So it came off as if he was a homophobe because there's evidence that he is, and then when he was asked to clear that up, he said look I know Jas I know his family and I'm praying for them right now. Hey, man you save your fucking prayers. Okay. That's the kind of stuff that just doesn't play no matter who you are and I think the. Most important part of all of this because I guess I'm still maybe a little surprised that he doesn't have a job because other people have been on TV and not been great on. TV. I've looked at other coaches that haven't had great runs and there's been plenty of people that have gotten second chances by the way both black and white. So when I see people out raged that he's been blackballed or as. Shannon Sharpe said White Bald or Kendrick Perkins recently, just saying like all of these things that I just going off on the idea that Mark Jackson doesn't have job it really feels like, okay. Are you informed and but yet you've made up your mind decided not to change your mind or are you uninformed and I think so many people screaming about this or like Oh wait that's right. You know maybe either moments you had just now listening to this like Oh, that's right. I've nothing personal against Mark Jackson. He's one of my favorite college basketball players of all time all-time. You guys know how huge of a Saint John's Fan I am and I actually was you know as a little kid be like dude I can't believe he's going this late in the draft is GonNa be awesome and he was awesome in the knicks I felt so vindicated I was. Like and I could refer team right one day I love Mark Jackson and I was right. But when I listened to him on the broadcast Van Gundy I, think him being on the broadcast Van Gundy chances of getting a job because if I was worth a half a billion dollars or more and had the opportunity to own a team or owned a team right now and I'd go. Van Gundy's on all of these little things like, Hey, look at how they blind me Anthony Davis on free throws already have them on the other side of the court. So he can seal for Deepak smaller offender will there be an adjustment. Hey, what's going on with the substitution? Hey, this rule's actually wrong. Why are they doing it? This Way Jeff Van Gundy will say, here's Hey Jason tatum something's wrong with him. He's the first pointed out it happens multiple times every single broadcast Jeff Van Gundy is easily the best NBA analyst in the game right now. Mark doesn't do any of those things and I. Don't know if that's just him not being comfortable in that role but he's a coach. He's a former player and he doesn't do any of those things. He'll say, Hey, this guy's not just a great score. He's a great individual. He's a human being. Okay. So and so doesn't get enough credit for shooting. Okay. In everything is results based. If the shot goes in, it was a great shot at the shot doesn't go in Hey, that's the guy that shouldn't be taking the shot. It's very. It's very minimal depth and when. You have people that make these decisions. You're almost instead of looking at the resume in Golden State which is on its surface again resume. You'd say Yeah. What like six years? Nicholas gives Scott his shot young team garnered play defense that's hard to do. But I think being next to Jeff. When Jeff runs circles around him on the broadcast. It it might remind go wait why why is this one guy way better talking about the game than the other guy so I think the best thing market do would not be on the broadcast with Jeff and who knows what might happen. So I just think the more we look at it and hey man trust me this is not white guy decide to push back on racism segment because I've. Probably done with those the rest of my life. I'm seeing specific to this one because the NCAA numbers are atrocious. The ABC's the head coaching. Diversity that we have in the pro sports leagues still is not what it needs to be I'm not pushing back on any of those things. But when it comes specific to mark Jackson, there are the informed in the uninformed, and hopefully if you've resisted this, you're more informed now.

Game 5 wraps up of the 2020 Finals

"Moments after exciting. One of the best, finals games in recent memory. Game Five Heat Eke Ekit out to live another day and joining Zach tonight now Chris. Bosh. It wasn't quite. Five to Allen for three. It was quite Bosch Talon. But this is up there with one of the biggest heat wins in history I mean. For sure. It's an incredible game. What did you think of it? Man You know I, it is starting to be one of those series that's just kind of grinding to a halt. You thought that was going to happen is not happening. Everything, every player that she thought was going give this particular stat line is not it's not really transpiring right now but I mean, you have to give all credit to the heat and I kept telling people this in all these interviews you know how can get? The Lakers. Over they've got the uniforms on and I just like, okay he don't WanNa be here but let me tell you something. These guys if there's anybody. Who would embrace a difficult situation? It is Erik Spoelstra and Butler seems to really. Thrive off of that and anticipate that. affected. So it's Kinda like a marker will really hard is. Like they say, Oh hey yeah, we're here now. We're supposed to be competing for championship. This is how it's supposed to be. You know is this all about survival now there they've lived to play another day and that's what you gotta do. I think it's time to just acknowledged. Once and for all that, the heat had become a great team you know there was always this question of. Did they benefit from the hiatus hiatus in everything the bubble shake the bucks more than other teams. Did they benefit from hayward getting injured a really good. You. Know this Lakers seem his lost one game in every playoff series. Until now, they have not lost to to a heat team that is missing its leading postseason score until this series Goran dragic that they could started to acknowledge Jimmy Butler. The top ten player. Yeah that'd be we're. GonNa. Have to rearrange the rankings because this dude just put up thirty five, twelve eleven in forty seven minutes forty seven minutes and five and a half whatever it is it's the game you play dull game. Survived forty thirteen seven on fifteen of twenty-one masterpiece from the Brian. James we can talk about the end of the game if you want. Everyone can focus on the end of the game, but the heat put themselves in position to win at the end of the game. Duncan. Robinson was unbelievable. They're shotmaking was outstanding and this team just keeps in with Bam out bio clearly, not one hundred percent missing layups, missing dunks, he can play better he. To acknowledge the heat now are are for real and just like you were saying, they're short handed to. So you know we need to keep that in mind You can only imagine how the series would be a little different Gora was out there and not that he's just going to be that dominating presence, but he gives them another layer. To their attack and you know they have that team cohesion down pack and I mean, I don't really know where the lapses with the Lakers are happening with dunkin' Robinson. He's making them pay every time. I. Mean He's moving himself up into Lee Company every game because you don't expect them the thing you know you don't think he's going to continue to go on the street. He's he's gone on and you'll eventually figure that a veteran is GonNa get into them and just chase him to the bathroom. But but it hasn't happened yet and I mean they're making them pay every single time and. Boy I. Tell You. We'll. We'll see what happens game six. Years especially with a hobbled a little bit man. That's one of the big cities we should probably get to. Well, let's let's talk about the end of the game real quick. Okay. So a Frank Vogel Lakers coach has come out after this game and said that there were bad calls at the end. Jimmy Butler getting to the line I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree he's probably GonNa give find. Lakers lead the Lakers up one. He, ball they run a beautiful fast play for Jimmy Butler gets A. He screwed good play Lebron not. because. Eighty one moving so whilst I foot Lebron on. Screen Lebron and she goes up but Jeff Van Gundy called on the broadcast he he floats see I mean. It in verticality your whole. Career. Frank Vogel helped invent it with Roy but. He floats. He fails right? That's a foul. Yes. Afoul he jumped into them. You know good call by the resident and you have to give you know usually referees are getting tough time I. Think they called a Great Game Day You can always look on both sides and say, well, if an if but if they're even in the game is tied and the players they're the ones who are dictating what happens out there. Hopefully, the game isn't called. You know at the end by you know free throws or anything like that but all. Evenly called Game I. Feel. Throws. Yeah, each team had their opportunities and. Jimmy Man Jimmy Butler man he's he's continuing to do it. Man I gotta I gotta you gotTa give him props he's going to make give him props I. Mean he put them on their own is back in those last minutes. Man I mean, the one leg get he's hidden one legged fadeaway. You know he's hitting the free throws down the stretch to dribble I mean he's He's shoot free throws when you're that exhausted and not just. Did you her second he was going to miss you like just. To, to, of course, you were not you think he's GonNa Miss One because as a player I know how I would feel I'm GonNa Miss One. On. THAT TIRED Like him going over when he was leaned over panting after getting fouled, you know they burned a time out after that but. Just him just still being able to muster up whatever could and having a concentration suppose still had Chris Bosh on his roster. He would have run that play where you went to the back side. And the coroner. You. Come on you. Play for last second shot several times. So okay. So it makes a two free throws come down. They call time out again, Van Gundy and Mark Jackson. Call on this game all over this. Danny Green is in the game with a know Dunkin Robinson's on Danny Green. They know that they're going to run the screen to try to force Dunkin Robinson they know there's going to be a double with Lebron that's exactly what happens Lebron Drives Zach he drives into a crowd. There's three is three and a half guys there. He makes the basketball play Chris Bosh, which he is made for fifteen years since he's been starting to the playoffs, throws it to the Open Guy Danny. Green is a thirty eight percent three point shooter from that spot according to second spectrum is wide open. So I'll I'll throw them another couple of percentage points. And he missed it. Well I know Danny wants that one back. you know he made the right play it was a crowd I. I think he had the mentality to say, you're not going to beat us. We're sending everything in the kitchen saying and we're just going to close the shooters. They got the play that they were looking for. It was a tremendous play Danny Green slipped out. You kinda tell that the heat we're anticipating that play. Brahms. So able to make a very decent pass out the Danny grains got he got his hands on he stepped right into it. Any other time nine times out of ten he'll make that shot. You know he missed it what the interesting thing was on the rebound market Moore's he had plenty of time and he kind of made a quick decision Brian, opened on the right wing, which is always easy to say a new usually. Yeah. You throw it to ad but he had another big on you know and that was just man I was a tough light. It was very tough sequence. Watching film you. In it again now. You. Know Marquee Foucault Danny Green like he just handed the ball to hand off again Danny was right there funny though when he's when you through the LOB. Through. It I looked under the Rim I saw a d. and I thought again the balls just hand in mid Air I thought okay. I hate that decision because ad Mike, I'm putting the referees in play a little bit their down one, and then of course, the pass was that not an accurate he choked right let's just say. I'm not saying I would say that to mark keeps face in this moment. Do not say that Bryant don't say that. He. What do you WanNa say it's choked. Well he also as you pointed out before we started, you know they were setting the screen it they set for Jimmy on the on the go ahead. Free throws a flat screen by crowder and the flat screen is designed. You know Chris knows when your face in half court, it's designed to make defense. Gessler. Like which way to go, but it is an which wishing the pick he went he went from an angle to switching to the flat. kind of this weird in between space and if you don't, if if you're not demonstrative about your coverage, you'll get exploited

I Disagree with the Second Agreement and I Hope You Take It Personally by TK Coleman

"I disagree with the Second Agreement and I hope you take it personally by tk Coleman of tk. Coleman DOT COM. I like to think in terms of alternatives not absolutes that is instead of adopting an either or logic for problem solving and goal achievement prefer to think in accordance with both and strategies. For example, let's consider the notion of taking things personally self help author. Don Miguel Ruiz has done a magnificent job at popularizing and articulating what is often referred to as the second agreement. Here's a summary of the idea in Ruis. His own words quote whatever happens around you don't take it personally nothing other people do is because of you what is because of themselves all people live in their own dream in their own mind. They are a completely different world from the one we live in only take something personally we make the assumption that they know what is in our world and we try to impose our world on their world and quote. I think that's a very useful idea and I found myself in some pretty lengthy discussions where I've defended it to people who absolutely to test this concept teaches own. I suppose. But as for me, my life has been a heck of a lot easier since I started practicing the second agreement as a critical thinker however, I like to keep my options open. Rather. Than treating ideas like the second agreement as dogmas to be believed in a regard them as value neutral conceptual tools whose usefulness varies with context. Sometimes I like taking things personally even when I know I'm not being personally attacked I deliberately choose to act as if I am being conspired against I usually use this idea as a psychological trick for motivating myself. As long as I can employ the take it personally technique in a way that's healthy and isn't obsessive. I derive great practical value from it. Anyone who's ever played competitive spores probably understands concept very well choosing to look at your competition as the enemy or the bad guys can be an invigorating experience. One of my favorite ticket personally stories comes from Michael Jordan before a soldout contest between the New York Knicks and their rivals the Chicago Bulls Knicks, coach Jeff Van Gundy accused Michael Jordan of being a con man who deliberately X. friendly towards opposing players in order to soften them up and gain a competitive edge over them. Van. Gundy's harsh words were printed in Chicago newspaper and Jordan. saw them before the game. He took it personally and decided to play with a chip on his shoulder for the entire game Jordan had a personal vendetta to show van Gundy just how capable he was having a great game without being nice to his opponents. He did exactly what he set out to do by scorching the Knicks for a red hot one points and one point in the game after hitting an important basket Sharon looked at Van Gundy and yelled at him. One of Jordan's team as reported that Michael Love to us, criticism and hatred as a way of motivating himself a sports commentator who knew of this habit predicted that Jordan would score fiftypoints simply because he would be fired up. I've Angolans words. US, right. Jordan took it personally and brought the best out of him interestingly enough. Here's what Jordan said after the game quote. Guess I. Didn't make any friends out there tonight Jordan smiles I. Think those words were more geared to motivating his players but I don't think on the court they have befriended me, I don't go on the court expecting to make friends. But when I leave the court, I don't take what happened on the court away from me. We're only playing a game. I don't view it as a war away from the game and quote. In a video clip. Jordan talks about how he used that moment as motivation while not letting it get to him in an unhealthy way. Jordan disagreed with the second agreement and it worked does illustrates one of my favorite metaphors for life life a game. As an all games achieving one's goals requires the use of effective strategies. A good strategist is one who remains flexible. He uses what works without ever feeling the need to assign the status of costal truth to any of the strategies in his playbook. If taking it personally works good strategists takes it personally if taking it personally leads to stress and self destructive preoccupation with what others think then it strategist stops to him personally. This attitude of philosophical flexibility can be extended to issues and belief systems. Ideas are just tools sometimes are useful. Sometimes are not which ideas of you when you use them, and how you react to the results is your job to sort out as you sorting through the ever enlarging buffet of ideas being offered in the marketplace be should remember the admonition of Terence McKenna quote nobody smarter than you and quote. You know more about what's best for you than anyone else. So don't take anybody's ideas dogmatically specially now mind think critically about everything. Then take what works for you and leave the rest.

"Happy Greg Cody Tuesday for you unhappy Greg Cody Day for me. Last week has connection went out about five times during the show. He lost his power now. He's just pulled out his headset and now he's leaving the room as soon as we start the show. Excellent work is always cody. Curse. What is your father doing? What is your father doing that? We've started the show and he's not ready. You're you're mother's ready to divorce him after I don't know how many years they've been married. Because you can't put on a mask, right, he continues to. To thumb his lack of his his nose and his lack of health. At at society by continually going out to restaurants, none of us go anywhere because we're trying to kill him. From getting sick in the demo that is most likely to get sick and no one needs a mass more I mean. You're right. He's hoping for two years Chris. How first of all I'd coughing? Can you wait to talk, please? Can you wait to foul up the show for just a second? Already. happened to Manfred Ace in the Hole I. Don't know this happened yesterday on the show. You said he had an ace in the hole. We played the the sound of my fathers celebrating. Stugatz is right, holy bleep Stugatz his right He has some fifty game season that he can throw out there, and now he's on with Mike Greenberg, and he is telling my Greenberg that he's not confident. There's going to be a baseball season. After saying he was one hundred percent. Sure there was going to be a baseball season. Yes, Billy. What happened was Dan you know how sometimes aces are wild? It's only like red aces or wild. He had a black ace and he thought Black Aces were wild. It's ready a useless card. He had in his hand. You know so put on the. In the hall at Lebatardshow put it on the poll. Please Guillermo First of all should his name be Fred Manfred. Second All. Do you. does the name Fred Inspire anything in the way of confidence because I believe his wayward. Fred is what's costing him I. Don't believe as much confidence. As the other commissioners. Have And I would also ask you Put It on the poll at Lebatardshow. Did you get into sports to hear Commissioners Talk? You know code. He's got something for baseball. He grew up with it. As the national pastime, it was the game that mattered, and now no one's making a bigger mess of this, not even Kyrie Irving, no one's making a bigger mess of the return to sports, not my Gundy, not anybody then baseball is because they're fighting over money. Other Mike Gundy's trying. He's trying to do what he can. For whatever his cause is mullets and being forty years old. are those are the two most famous things on Gundy's resume. The mullet and I'm forty absolutely. Yeah. What else would there be I? Don't know somebody. Give me a signature Oklahoma state win because they're the fiesta bowl. Didn't Brandon beat Andrew Lock in a New Year's bowl game. Is that the signature Gundy win? Because what I associate them with is scoring forty one points while allowing forty five. And in all the games that matter putting up nineteen for some reason. I don't remember Oklahoma state ever winning a meaningful game and that guy has had a job forever. He can he can coach there forever, because Oklahoma, state has no preordained right to be good, and they're always others, receiving votes or bottom half of the of the top twenty, and seems like my just give you one. I'm Oklahoma drew lock with Brandon Weeden I mean. Oklahoma City present. You remember beating Stanford you. That's your signature. Win Beating Stanford. I mean. I can't I I. Don't know what to do with you asking for an example. Dismissing, but if that's your signature win, like yeah, they're not a national championship program. That's why Mike Gundy's kept his job for so long, actually had a good run for Oklahoma state under Mike Gundy. Their whole deal is hey. We'll be in the mix we'll be. Hey. They gotta put us in the top ten, and then we'll drop a game against K. State and predictably then we'll come back after dropping another one to Baylor and somehow beat Oklahoma because they do that in Oklahoma. Do they almost state often beat Oklahoma. Oklahoma just has they control their own destiny, the entire state of Oklahoma Oklahoma state and Oklahoma you, they have the ability to control their own destiny, and they'll just trade off losing to one another to blow it. What is my Gundy's record? Would you look this up for me? Please against Oklahoma, He's in the news because he was in a hostage video with his running back, and it was amazing to watch the two of them. Sort of do a hostage video press conference because he wore a t shirt. And he's a mullet I mean he's a dope. Just a dope like he's the guy who runs Oklahoma state is dopey, two and thirteen versus Oklahoma and. While, they are two. They got two big ones. But he's one twenty, nine and sixty four. Kansas every. We'll get to the Mike Gundy story in a second because it's amazing I, I am flabbergasted, okay, I don't care what t shirt he wears, but if you're going to be a coach in that position and You're going to do high profile things, and this is the time when people are taking sides, and you're running back comes out and says hey, I'm not down with that shirt. Coach is wearing. That is going to start some questions and those are going to be questions that you have to answer i. just can't believe that. The only apology I heard in that hostage video was from the running back for breaking ranks on secrecy for calling DOJ. Don't. Like team distractions Mike You have the hostage? Yeah I have the sound of the video that was apparently shot by Mike Myers because there is a hugely distracting person breathing in the back of all of this, and there's and Mike Gundy. It should be noted that's just a word salad of nothing. He doesn't give any specifics on anything..

College football in the spring? It's yet another idea being floated

"So we don't know about the future college football this season obviously there's a lot of reports floating around to maybe games played in front of no fans Notre Dame's athletic director said he's not interested in playing games a frontal fans Mike Gundy wants games played right away yeah and Kerr Kerr free was kind of the dooms dayers suggesting that there was not gonna be college football played all this year well there is a new suggestion or theory that perhaps college football could be moved to the spring semester that kind of like spring sports you could have college football's start after the Superbowl February March April being your three months of the year you would play college football instead of September October November now I think we're a ways off from this being a reality but it's a contingency plan because you kind of have to fit in your sporting season two the semesters because you have student athletes there so morass I gotta say yeah we we've been frothing at the mouth for spring football and we've seen the XFL failing the alliance fail but wanted to wouldn't fail is spring college football and it would be hard to sit through the entire fall without it right by if we had college football on a platform to itself what you do is you're talking football from real games from the start of September through may the you would have a real football games significant important football games September October November December January and then roll into college football February March April may be into may you would be beside yourself and dare I say it on national championship game played on the weekend instead of a Monday because they don't have to worry about the NFL playoffs as well as a pay off at the end instead of playing the game until one AM on a Monday night how great would that be it be great I've always said this I I think the college football is obviously a monster but that the one thing that could make college football even a little bit better is if it moved away from the NFL schedule because then I would treat college football like the NFL in all the markets in major cities that have NFL teams and look it would take away the crisp traditional fall air and you know going back to school and all that stuff if you would turn

Clippers’ comeback leaves LeBron’s Lakers with plenty of Christmas regrets

"Mantras ends up on Lebron and then you come back down quite got the ball and now Danny Green's on them. And then the Lakers run a screen with pope where I think heartless was on Pope or something and they ended up getting Switzer. They could get Lebron going at beverly and again like I said. These weren't transition matchups. And at that point I'm like all right stop. Stop doing this Because this isn't this isn't fun anymore. later on in the game you know it was a Anthony Davis trying to go at mantras. which didn't really hurt the clippers? He hit a jumper. He missed another jumper. They did an awesome out of time out thing that will get you on this time. Now we're Vogel Got Mad. and He kinda called like another quick second time out where he got mad about something they did and how they were defending Kuwait going to his right off that horn stuff and The the Dow time out play was incredible but it was a lot of straight. Anthony Davis. What can you do against mantras again? Find Clippers pass that test and then it was Paul George defending ending Lebron straight up and it. It wasn't terrible but you know it's not something you do even with Paul George at his length and everything. You're not GonNa just let that happen George actually Lebron did get it going after starting. Oh a seven from three and then you look at the closing groups. The Lakers went. Beverly Shamet George. Kawhi by mantra as the Lakers Rondo Green. Lebron Anthony Davis after Lakers went with their accuse me the clippers went with their closing group at eight minutes left The Lakers brought in Davis at seven. Twenty Dwight was still in. But then this is the thing to always look at. Okay wait a minute. This was a game against maybe their best opponent they went with. Anthony Davis the five with those five minutes to go. Oh and I mentioned all of those matchups they're a little bit earlier The outta time out was awesome. It was a hand off where it was like a ball reversal van. Gundy mentions handoff. Lebron gets at the AD slips screen donkey. We go and I'm watching this expecting the whole time. Davis is going to go off. This is GonNa go off and it didn't really happen Offensively for what the Clippers did they WANNA WII really good post where I have these concerns where I go as Lou Williams holding the ball a little too much when you have George and cold out here with two minutes to go to close in a close game like what are you doing any the answers both. Yes and no because there was one possession where you looked like he was gonna run it down to the clock where he had Lebron on. 'EM EYESO- no help and I'm Mike is just going to go with Lebron and not let anybody else touched the ball here. Because I don't know that I love that despite loose scoring prowess But they didn't do that coadjutor. Really good post position coming from the right block to the left block and got fouled by Danny Green it was good foul you got fouled again. He hit all of his free throws. And that's really kind of what happened in this game. Is that the clippers. Made their last sixteen free throws throws and the Lakers didn't really know what they wanted to be. They they just kind of went one on one match ups and the shots didn't go in and it's very important though after after the Lakers get the ball back with shacklock off down three Lebron's going at beverly. I almost didn't have this in the notes and I just double checked here by the way I looked at it and go. Okay you know. Are they going into the clippers. GonNa foul. They're up three. They don't Lebron had a hard time. Kinda getting free a beverly beverly got his body right into them. Am I mean that guy's unbelievable defending bigger guys not that he's GonNa shut down Lebron but he did on that possession and he blocked a shot and my least favorite review in sports is is when the Guy Swipes at the ball out of your hands like science on the Super Mythbusters Slow Motion Cam is gonNA show. The ball usually always getting like be out out of the shooter's hands last. But the intent of what you would always call was. Okay if you have the bond somebody swipes it out and it just happens to be that a molecule. Your pinky is the last thing to touch. It's the ball. I could still off the other guy I I bet there's people listening to this that are disagreeing with me saying that it's it's it's better this way. It isn't better this way. It sucks this way. And and I'm the furthest thing from really being a fan of either team so has nothing to do with it. I just don't think that that's really. What the spirit of the rule is and I know they reversed it and they called it out? That's your ballgame But I I hate it I hate it

"So paternity leave Lou bad back and had etiquette all one week and finally a Florida man was arrested in a months-old attack during which he allegedly used a Samurai swords who threaten and assault a jogger as they fought over a wheelbarrow the victims that he found a pile of trash house going on that for all the way does that lodge information sports that are on ESPN radio all throughout the day happy thirty eighth birthday birthday to Serena Williams a happy birthday to her. I don't care good luck so there was some some excellent Journalism Sports Journalism Pulitzer worthies journalism done the other day by Detroit Lions beat reporter Kyle Minke. He spotted spotted someone who looked like Stan van Gundy hiding in the upper deck with his dogs and he outed him. He outed him as an upper deck goer of two games of forty five win teams with his dogs. It has to be here man. I'm guessing you can only bring the dog so the upper deck. That's probably the rule but we check in now with Stan Van Gundy for a couple of reasons one of which is to congratulate him on his new Gig at TNT and more importantly to congratulate him him on being able to laugh at the Absent Mike Ryan and his Cleveland browns because Baker Mayfield has the goods dude is what Mike Ryan. Dan said to Stan Van Gundy and Mike Ryan has been out with the family emergency all week of the browns losing on Sunday night and so here's Stan van Gundy joins us to the first question I have for you. It was indeed your dog dog or dogs at that game and if so why the hell were you at a tigers game okay it was my wife and I were out in Michigan visiting our two oldest kids who both have dogs and they wanted to go to bark complex so I was with not my own dogs but with my kids dogs and it was a great event now I will say when you go to those things. It's hard to watch the game. I mean you you end up just watching the dog you're within and all the other dogs but it was it was a lot of fun. I mean probably more fun than watching the Tigers Right now is they lying down a season where they're not. GonNa win any so you know but it was it was a funny thing and it was a great night. It was seventy five degrees so you couldn't have had a better night and I like it yeah. I'll have to do it sometime well with my own dogs. Now I know you you say that you're only up in the upper deck because that's where they keep the dogs. Did you send an email like hey. I'm Stan Van Gundy. I can go down what about what about me. Can I just go out on the field with my dog. Can I poop on face well. I actually thought letting the dog on the field would have been a good idea but but no my my name doesn't carry a lot of weight in Detroit the now they've ran me out of town so i. I don't know the trying to make that play. would've would've gone. I'm very far anyway staying. How do you think the dogs received that night because I've gone to bark at the park a couple of times and I've found that my dog doesn't seem to enjoy it as much as like all the humans humans around enjoy the idea for the park yeah that might be true but my my sons and daughters dog seemed to really like it now the part they really liked was you know coming into the stadium and you know being able to socialize with all the other dogs they love that and you know being there and being able to have fun with the other dogs. I didn't really notice them paying attention to the game a whole lot though I didn't notice most of the fans around paying attention to the game and the only sections were close to full. Oh we're the dog sections. Every the restaurant is empty while I was. GonNa ask you about that too because every time I go to the park. My dog is not paying attention to the game and we talk all the time time about what are we going to do a baseball baseball's time. We can't keep kids paying attention to the Games. It can't keep fans attention game. No one's talking about how we keep. The dogs interested in a baseball game and you'd think dogs of all people would be super interesting because it was a boggling back and forth the entire team and they can't even keep dogs attention now. It can't though I will say that you you know both of my kids dogs. what they liked was you know getting the ballpark hot dog they. They enjoyed that they enjoyed the experience anthony go into the park and getting so far it was good. Stan. I've always wondered on these bark at the park nights like what happens. If the dog has to poop yeah we'd just cleaning love with baggy right. Yeah you bring bags with you if you have to but I I didn't notice any like in the areas they have like relief relief areas where the dogs can P poop so yeah and then you just clean it up and out of those areas so that they have that all taken care of and I'll tell you what all the pet food and pet treat companies or they're giving stuff away so the tickets were like fourteen dollars for each person Jason Fourteen dollars for each dog so 'cause you accu pie space. You get far more than that in giveaway stuff up there so It's actually even if you I didn't want to go to the game. It would be worth it to buy those tickets to give away places. Fill up your bag and head home you. Its worst worst pricing admission so if every dog needs a ticket. I assume there's a seat for every dog. How does this work with the larger dogs or they like awkwardly sitting with their arms on the arm rest yeah. Actually it's funny I mean most of them are standing in the you know in the aisles and things like that the really big dogs but yeah you do have to get a space base for each dog but you know the dogs. My kids dog sat in my my daughter has a really small dog. A terrier and my son has a Husky mix. It's a little bit bigger and tall taller but he they both sat in their seats for a little bit but you you know they basically wandered around and I seem to me with all the dogs were looking for from their own owners and from others were treats they wanted to get that sounds is about right. It's also what you want it. Antonio Right fighting my kids dogs for those Antonio Antonio. Put It on the poll. Please do dogs enjoy bark at the park and Stan if you ran the Pistons with the financial efficiency of you just describing describing the bargain that is fourteen dollars per dog but you can leave with a bunch of bags of free samples. If you ran the Pitch Pistons with that kind of efficiency you would be to you see right now in the east. That's possible especially for this coming season. you know that enough for the talent is sort of left east. I guess that's possible before you go. You WanNa Make Fun of Mike Ryan. WHO's not here about the start of the Cleveland browns season. You were there yeah there. They we're GONNA win. You know what hold on a second stand. We're going to call him in. We're going to call and see if we can find if we can get you to make fun of him on it. It's just going to sit there and take but he doesn't really need to be here but we want them to listen to you when we need him to hear some of this. Donlevatar punctuate this segment with what is your strike three call the strike one would be and then stand up a good point to the right Stugatz but straight through you get down low. You got your hands behind the catcher all right the right arm armed goes up into the air and then you finish it with the right arm way up into the air. We're like audio's off. This is our show with two guys on. Espn Radio Radio Stan Gundy GONNA continue with us year on the Shell Pennzoil performance line so it wasn't that long ago as the browns were the hype train one of the off season they were on. I take all the time they were really being celebrated Stan Van Gundy and Mike Ryan Browns Fan. Mike Ryan got into an argument about Baker Kerr Mayfield now. The browns are wanting to rex Ryan and saying that Baker Mayfield is overrated as hell. Let's go back in time a little bit to listen briefly to Mike Ryan and at a happier time in Cleveland Browns History Mike Ryan and stand talking about the browns during the off season. They'll sure are you that Baker. Mayfield is going to be a star mean. He's got the goods dude now. If there's any unnecessary it's got to get out of debt. Thank you very much definitely deserve. They got the goods. That's gotTa be more than two minutes. Five minute sure yes. Yes a five minute yeah. He's got the goods dude my grind. Do you want to defend yourself right now. Okay stands let him have it stands floors guy is i. I checked yesterday in. He's one of the top thirty two quarterbacks in the NBA. Two quarterback rating you know so I mean that makes see. I'm a starting quarterback in the NFL it makes him the worst starting quarterback in the NFL and the the thing. I think you add to it is everybody got so excited. Because everybody thought allow Baker Mayfield's a star he's got the goods and all of that and then they put all these weapons surround him and that's a terrible often so you know i. I don't know I mean my point. All along with the browns is is until they prove otherwise they're the browns and whoever you put in those jerseys is GonNa find a way to not be as good as you think. I think they're gonna be and so far now thoroughly so far. It certainly looks at Mike any Rebuttal. I mean Oh really okay all right. What's your later. Thank you checking with you. During your time thank you sir might discourage. The three came into the season. Take off a week from work and I think he's in a depression. Watch him that is correct all right Stan Dan. We'll catch up with you later and congratulations on the new GIG. It sounds like a lot of fun. We are going to miss you. Hopefully you stop around here every once in a while. I hope so too. Thanks Dan so. Have you guys gotten the quotes on Brett farve talking about this is a conversation that's God's than I have been. Having for the better part of ten years as we have loved talking to wide receivers and asking them some version of the question would you rather have twelve catches for one hundred forty yards and a loss or two catches edges for ten yards and a win and outside of the Super Bowl. Almost everybody responds they want the stats and even though we talk all the time about team unity and team sports and sacrifice their very human emotions involved and STU gods loves to accuse the STAR Player. Oh you're who's sitting and having to watch someone else have success be bitter and angry and jealous about what should be joy. It's a natural reaction. I'm just trying to point that out. It's just a natural thing to feel as you watch someone else. Take your job so Brett. Farve is saying that he li- manning I didn't enjoy basically any part of Daniel Jones's Sunday victory against the Tampa Bay box where Daniel Jones did a handful of things. Eli Manning has never done done ran for a couple of touchdown game overcame an eighteen point deficit was great against pressure so what are the quotes from Brett Farve on this billing early. He's said quote you and I- anyone else can only speculate what I was thinking for us it on his weekly serious. XFL NFL see serious accent NFL radio program mm-hmm but you have to think that deep down inside a part of him not wanted to see Daniel Jones fail but want but not play at the level that he did the great right. It answers a ten year old question. Thank you Brett also answering ten year old question. Is this this director who is making a movie about Action Park. This is something that God says introduced you to. It's considered the most dangerous action park in the world world. We did a thirty for thirty on at once. What if I told you thousand nine hundred seventy eight to nineteen ninety eight it was a waterpark that regularly killed Patriot that had the survivors longing to come back on its opening day over one hundred swimmers were saved from the wave pool that the wave pool was often referred to as the grave pool employees would describe as underaged undertrained and often under the influence that ride designers may have had insufficient training in physics and engineering that a guest once said they seemed to build rides not knowing how they would work and then let people on that during testing testing of the Canon Ball Lou dummy were thrown in and repeatedly came out the capitated. The ride was altered until the dummies came out and tat that park employees within offered one hundred dollars the tested out themselves. Even in Real Life, There Were Screens Between Us

"Caitlin Dewey was a senior in college orage when she thought she'd met the man of her dreams and then she decided to spend some time with him in person Isa Ray who recently starred in the movie little reads Caitlyn to his essay even in real life there were screens between us crawled up at the foot of my bed. My face inches from the laptop screen. I stared anxiously at Google. Chatterbox will is typing. The box told me helpfully force myself to read email. I waited for his message. Then I refresh rush my twitter feed scroll through my blog post and began brushing my teeth. Still the box said will is typing. Don't you dare get hurt by this. I met at around my toothpaste. This was a stupid idea and you knew that from the start but recognizing the stupidity of falling for someone on the Internet does not prevent you from doing it. My friends net a college radio. Dj Chats constantly with some music bloggers. She met on Tumbler. My friend to one who lives in Los Angeles days up until after three to talk to his London base girlfriend and I had just driven nearly eleven hundred miles round round trip to visit. Will I guy I met in October at a web journalism conference and got to know almost entirely on skype. I I noticed him across the table at a noisy hotel bar will own thick black frame glasses but no hairbrush comb traits that lent him the look of a basement bound attacker. If you've ever attended an Internet conference you understand how Pale skin thick glasses and scruffy hair can be attractive otherwise I can't explain it to you you in either case I liked wills weirdly overconfidence smirk and his obsession with wordpress he regaled me with the merits of plug ins and PHP until I became tired and went to bed. I'll find you on twitter. I joked when I left. I didn't expect or even want to see will again again after that weekend since he lived three states away further facetime seemed unlikely. I followed his twitter pose with detached curiosity city in January G. Chadha me to complain about work then he got drunk and message me again sometime near midnight as I uploaded photos. There's an otherwise wasted bandwidth with obvious sarcasm he wrote. Do you have that skyping. Kids talk about these days. I I've read that. Ninety percent of human communication is nonverbal skype capture that ninety percent on a low resolution video camera compresses it funnels it to a node computer and reproduces it on a screen anywhere in the world skype eliminates distance. That's why it works and and that's exactly what it did for us with my skype screen open and my Webcam on I. viscerally felt that will was sitting a food away on my bed. Ignoring The Times the picture froze or his voice cut out. I thought he looked in sound exactly like he did in person sometimes times when he leaned into the computer to read an article I'd sent him. I could see the pores on his face. We started video chatting for hours every night. Uh He from an ascetic all white bedroom me from the cupcake print corner of my studio apartment I learned that he ate takeout for every meal and slept a series of identical White v Neck t shirts and smart with one side of his mouth. When I said something clever I knew his preferred coding languages his least favourite content management system and his general hatred dancing small talk and girls in bars one one night when we talk too late I fell asleep with my laptop open and woke up seven hours later tangled in cords and he was still there asleep been the light from an open window paling young and pixellated eventually he stirred link at the camera and said Hey you. Hey I said easily. How did you sleep as the weeks went on. I told you about my last boyfriend. Agai admit in psychology class and dated for almost two years. He listened quietly his glasses reflecting my image each from a computer and gave good clear advice about letting go. I can't remember the last time I met somebody that smart and talented in ways. I certainly certainly wasn't he told me about his ex girlfriend who never appreciated his work and I texted him from classes. When I was frustrated or bored in the safety of my apartment I could see well but I can touch him. I could summon him when I wanted to talk but I never knew him in any light of in the one from his bedside lamp. This phenomenon worked in my favor as well. You know I could call him after a few drinks thanks when I felt sufficiently talkative and social I could avoid him. If I had videos to edit or blog post to write I can say whatever I wanted and risk awkwardness renews because at the end of the conversation one click of the mouse would shut him out of my room. The irony is that we flocked to the Internet for this type of safe sanitized intimacy but we want something entirely different in real life or irl is a popular term online parlance at Internet at conferences like the one where I met will twitter exploded with people celebrating Iro meetings. Oh so nice to finally see at so-and-so. Iro If so and so. I can't believe we hadn't met IRL yet. The Internet brings these people together with Hashtags and message boards but it it never satisfies them. No matter how much you love someone's blog or twitter feed it isn't there post you actually want and so so slowly cautiously will and I began circling the question of what it all meant. I really like you. He said one nine after getting home from the bar. I really like you too. I said I don't know what that means. I I wanted to find out so in early. March I rented a car begged my professor presser to let me out of Class A day early and drove five hundred forty miles to spend a long weekend in the mid sized city where we'll when I got closed closed. I called my friend to stop where I fix my makeup and Chew Gum and generally tried to calm down. Whatever it's terrible I demanded what if he's nothing nothing like I expect in fact we're was almost exactly as I expected them. Lips straight knows ooh small. Hayes allies classes. He stood waiting at the side of the street while I parked my car going forward and back four no word back until I nervously got within two feet of the curve. We kissed on the cold blustery sidewalk as the win with my thoughts around mostly. I felt relieved. I thought this works in real life. It's means something but after we kissed eight pizza and went back to his house we struggled for things to talk about in real life will start off off it nothing while we talked in real life. He had no questions about the drive or my work or the stuff that waited for me. When I went back to school. He took me out for dinner and read his email. While we waited for our food he apologized profusely but still checked his websites traffic stats while we sat in his living room mm-hmm he took me to a party at his friend's house where they proceeded to argue for hours about web design while I sat on a futons tonic stared at the ceiling drunken board and terribly concerned that I look thinner online at points. He grabbed my hand and gave me a small apologetic. Smiles seemed like a strategy game a constant dance of reaching for me and pulling back of intimacy and distance a real life and internet make believe on the last day of my visit will overslept. He rushed around around the apartment with his hair. Wet Tie tied looking for his laptop. According to the plan we made the night before he would go to work and I would leave when it suited me dropping his spare keys in the mailbox in the front hallway where I stood rubbing. My eyes will hug me goodbye and told me to drive safely. He struggled for a closing statement. It was great to see you he said at last I didn't leave right away after I showered packed and studied the books nearest fireplace a set for a long time at his kitchen counter trying to work out what happened. I didn't like being surrounded by his things. I I felt more comfortable in my room with my things and with his presence confined to a laptop screen. I wrote him a note before I left. Dear will thank you so much for having me this weekend to spend time with you. In Person I signed my name left on the counter. Then willing myself not to cry. "Being broke it. I don't know how they're going to be able to recover from this. Tough tough couple of months without a championship. And that's it. So STAN Van Gundy is in with us today, and we will quickly shift tha basketball. Thank you. Unless you know unless anyone's heard hockey guy or surfer hockey guy far away from the Mike. I'm gonna move onto basketball here. Morning, everybody. Unless someone's got something to say about Gloria and the Saint Louis blues, I just wanna thank ROY publicly for telling me to take the St Louis blues, a plus seven fifty about four months ago I cashed in. Thank you very much ROY. You welcome last I s just got one solid from last night's mazing game. Senate did you see Jay bro Easter? He actually didn't get back on the person. But he was credited with an assist does all the right things. Here's a takeaway dude. Lots of little kids watching lots of little broS brunettes out there sitting at home. You gotta turn off the microphone, Lord Stanley just telling you right now, a lot of cusses. Man, that's affects kids, get back to traditional American values. In this country Benton, had one of the greatest performances any goaltender and stood on his head. Yeah. No Ryan bro early because winter and now superstar, we're all we all know name household name running rally, right? Playoffs. He had tremendous. I think I think that. Hockey has to be the hardest sport to predict during the playoffs harder than even baseball because you can maybe predict the Josh Beckett or Madison. Bumgarner is gonna make an appearance and be dominant. How the hell do you guess who's going to be the hot goalie? He did you took the blues based on goalie based on goaltending. Yeah. Absolutely did. Two arrests was mazing postseason. He may be Toko. Efi rask. It's difficult to predict because the puck is exactly. All right. It's a it's a tricky biscuit, and applying on ice on swords. No less stand. Do you follow any hockey at all? I mean I follow the scores. Yeah, that's about it. I didn't watch it, though. Okay. On put it on the ball. I didn't watch games. I should've watched game seven. I forgot it was onto becoming okay? Was anyone like me were they really they really went into that game. And they sat down. They turned on the TV and you know what? I'm going to watch this hockey game and then after ten minutes you just change the channel bullet to nothing three nothing. That's when you started the chains. At Chan I want because I know we're going to be talking about it. I just wanna watch it. But then I just like the guys grocer games on. And it's just that the week. The Bruins outshot, the blues Trotha four. Yes. And blues into the into I love the counter attacking style that the blues play. But it also made for disappointing game seven because they went up to and I was like there's no scoring on this offense. I need to rewind though because on the you know after in the aftermath of game seven best two words in sports, although I think we can make put this on the poll game lebatardshow better to words in sports. Game seven or Super Bowl Super Bowl is kind of like all the game sevens, but together so Super Bowl or game seven but I just want everyone to absorb that not only after the Stanley Cup final. Do we have STAN Van Gundy in standing Gundy, has decided to channel his inner stugatz where he's like, yeah, I follow hockey and then it becomes. Yeah. But I forgot game seven was on last night. And I didn't watch. And so I asked you guys that lebatardshow can you be someone who actually follows hockey if you forgot about game. Mm seven of the Stanley Cup..

Without Kevin Durant, Game 4 is must-win for Warriors

"Talking NBA finals with Chris, Mannix Klay Thompson who missed game three will play game four Kevin Durant whom this the last eight games will not play game. Four Steve Kerr said there's a good chance Katie playing game five or six Klay Thompson spoke about what it would mean if miss the finals entirely. Well, it suck if Kevin can't come back. I mean, I still think we'd have a good chance to win the finals. But obviously. That takes a huge hit. Think it would make us to cut favor anymore without him, you know teams very good. We just love the candor of the Golden State Warriors, like as a team like Klay, whatever. But dream on Jay handed. Steph is usually pretty Cantu. I love that team like is this. Well Kerr's as well, who is the favourite in this series of Katie doesn't return? Oh, it's oh I mean, I still again, we can have different conversation on Monday. If Klay Thompson comes back and looks exactly like the Klay Thompson, we saw before the injury. But if he is significantly slowed it's impossible to look at this series and say Toronto isn't the favorite now we discussed this yesterday. I disagree with Jeff Van Gundy said when he said that this war is team wasn't a playoff team, but it certainly isn't a final team, and it's probably not a team that gets out of the Western Conference as currently constituted so without Kevin Durant. And with a hobble Klay Thompson, Toronto is, is a clear favourite in my eyes. Tonight. What's important is where is clay and not only wears he during the game.

"I am stunned that stand in Gundy just came out during the NBA finals as profile on pro Drake and that, you know what I'm gonna go sit in the penalty box for being no fun guy when I've gone on the on the wrong side of standing Gundy. No, I'm a fun guy. I mean that's what I'm known for. I mean I'm synonymous with fund in. That's what I'm all about heads. Oviedo. I don't know what that is. Donlevatar mustard mixes with manny's better than ketchup. Does. What, what? Yes. No. What you've just said is appalling what you've just said, is an offence to anyone who's ever eaten. Still gots catch up. Oh my God. I don't like it on anything, but what catch your on American VC's live with our show with Stu gods on ESPN radio? Stand do you have the ability to not listen to the next thirty seconds of what we're doing here because I want the room to predict which way you're going to go on something. But I don't want you to be able to hear us as we do it. So can you just put down your headset for like thirty seconds and let us talk amongst ourselves, and we'll get to know when to come back on just look at thirty seconds? Just let thirty seconds text you. I'll text you. Okay. Do it. What is the opinion of the room on? What STAN Van Gundy take is going to be about the Houston Rockets, seemingly unwilling to extend Dan, Tony and blowing out most of his staff. Oh, he's getting rip Daryl Mauri. The rockets owners management for getting rid of coaches that were might dantonio guys and Houston was great. And what more do you want? No one's come closer to beat in the Golden State Warriors, in the west, the last two years, he's going to say that might DeAnne Tony he deserves a five year extent. Yeah. Ten year extension. Yeah. Life track that everybody coach got said, Yep. Yep. I don't have it prediction as to what he'll say, other than I think he'll utter the phrase, no question. Okay. So we'll see what happens there. Whenever STAN Van Gundy returns, I'd like to get to the outrage in the other room over the spelling bee..

"So STAN you're saying this is a lot harder than people think. I thought you made a good point you crack that open saying what just happened? A boy, it's. Harvey. How's it feel being God now in the ASO marketer? Well, it is it's quite a responsibility. That's that's how I take it. You learned how to take allowed sip. Or are you going to do another quiet one? If I ask you if it's a loud one come on. I mean, I'll do the best. I can I mean. You're terrible. Oh, no. No, no, no good times. You gotta wait it out. But the swallow was good. Okay. Okay. I mean, I'm still learning. I'm new to this ASMAR stuff. So give me a nice little after. That was good rate time now for standing Gundy's hot hot nuggets in your face. And now time for stamping Gundy's top NBA nuggets owning jersey show. The thing. What is the theme this week? Stan now, it's just playoffs. You know, I didn't get much more. A good stuttered simple stats fine. The third best standing. It sounded like the newer bored. By that what's his about this again, just the way the ball bounces? Whether it goes into the whole or non past good. Third-best nugget from Stanford Gundy is. Toronto success in the postseason has largely been their ability to shut down all star big guys in the regular season. Nicola vucevic of Orlando average tw- almost twenty one points a game on fifty two percent shooting versus the raptors in the first round that was down to eleven point two points on thirty six percent shooting. Joel Embiid he of the multiple maladies averaged twenty seven and a half points on forty eight percent shooting in the regular season. But through five games against Toronto is averaging only seventeen points on thirty eight percent shooting. How Vishal or some other reason? Well, they you know, what they're doing up to both guys. It's been really effective against Embiid is they're running the double team adding on the dribble. And he's notoriously been I turn over guy against that scheme. Pretty good passer. If he's just holding the ball, but if you have to try to make plays off the dribble, he can certainly score. He'll also turn it over a lot. Second best. Stan Van Gundy. Nugget is things look good for Toronto in Denver either. They win their game sixes on the road tonight. Or they host game sevens on Sunday over the past ten years. The home team has won twenty five of the thirty three game sevens over seventy five percent for Golden State. However, Kevin Durant injury. Could skew those odds. That seemed like less effect than just you just sort of throwing out some bonus commentary. That was the end that was dispose coming. I like that. But it is the second time he's gone to the hot take. Then it's going to be harder for Golden State without Durant. But what real what that was really about was I shouldn't have clouded it because it was about game sevens. And that's where the real advantage of homecourt homecourt comes in is that game seven. I mean, you'll have a lot of series where people win on the other teams floor early on. But that game seven's a tough one to win on the you're taking the controversial stands that. Kevin durant? Getting injured is in a great thing. Okay. You know? I just said I should've left that out it obscured. The point I was making about game seven. So the best of the stand Van Gundy playoff nuggets is. In the regular season. Kyri Irving made a hundred and seventy four threes, and Janas and Qetta clump..

"And they behave like a family, and they gave the job to a guy who's a patron Saint in the organization you, but I hear you know, I heard Brian Windhorst at others today saying if they really want to flourish it make the most out of these LeBron years they have to change that philosophy. And I agree that it can't be a guy. Like Magic Johnson that a lot of people would leave their current jobs to be the general manager president of the Lakers one of them. But one of them a Mike be sitting with us today. Even though he is denied it at every turn thirty three to one odds that the next coach of the Lakers will be STAN Van Gundy, standing Gundy told us last week exclusively that he would not put money on that that that is wasted money. Even if it brings you back thirty three times your return, if you want the opportunity here to officially take your name adv consideration and break some news on this show. We can do that. But also, wink if your name is still secretly inconsideration, and you just have. Out of respect for Palanca. He went he went gone. No, he did not would blink. And he's actually out of consideration for any job with the Lakers. Is there another Van Gundy that might be inconsideration or the job with the Lakers? Well, I can't I can't speak for him. A year after your show today. So have you spoken to him since the news broke or? No, actually, I got in really late less busy with interviews here to do the clipper game tonight. So. Gundy's descended like buzzards upon that open job stand up. Hypothetically, speaking, say, your brother, take some sort of team president role ends looking for a head coach how about now. Wow. Yeah. Just a Van Gundy takeover of the buses organization family businesses. That's likely that's likely to happen. Put it on the scroll. There is right there on the ESPN scroll likely to happen says Ben Gundy's are going to take over the Lakers. Put her on the scroll donlevatar. There are some legitimately meaty race stories out there. Stugatz. Great. These live at our show with his two guys on ESPN radio. So standing Gundy has been jostled about today. He is in the middle of a newsroom and ESPN, Los Angeles. How uncomfortable is that stand? Do you have to keep your energy level or your voice down because you seem to be surrounded by people you seem there seems to be a lot of activity where you are. There is a lot of activity, and yeah, I'm trying to keep my voice down a little bit. But no, it's not really disturbing me at all. It's actually nice to have some stuff going on around me. That is a good job the Los Angeles Lakers that just came open. What are your thoughts? If I throw out a name like Pat Riley because his relationships in Los Angeles, run deep. That's how he traded for shack. He went there to talk to them about his coach about the coaching job and came back with Shaquille O'Neal, eventually as part of those conversations. Does that sound ridiculous? He's been wanting to get to Malibu forever. It doesn't sound ridiculous. It's not out of the question. I would say two things. Elliot's extreme loyalty to Micky Arison, and he's got ownership stake in the Miami Heat. So I don't know how that would also back actually he sold that back. He had to tell Kay that he sold back a few years ago. That's good to know. And so. Like I said at the beginning. I I wouldn't rule it out. I mean, he's he certainly part of the Laker tradition. And he's got great experience in building teams..

"Talk to stand Van Gundy about what happened with Tom Izzo this weekend because a lot of people got divided and then it became a conversation about are we to sensitive in two thousand and nineteen have we gone soft. Coach can't yell at a player, but rest assured, the look of an old white man screaming with his fist clenched at a black basketball player in two thousand nineteen. It's just not gonna fly people are at the very least going to argue about it, and you could call them soft. If you want to we liked Tom Izzo here standing Gundy loves Tom is. But all of these things can be true at the same time. Tom Izzo really cares about kids. Tom Izzo is done a magnificent job teaching kids, and in that moment in two thousand nineteen he behaved in a way that was a little too outsized for the moment. And Furthermore, what I would say you is not coaching. It's just an old guy losing his mind and his temper that's. Not coaching yelling at that guy that way in that spot. It's just a Manding discipline of others and you not being disciplined yourself. Well, there are different styles of coaching. So some people would say that absolutely is coaching. And that's the way Tom Izzo has coached his entire career. Did it the Draymond green? Did it to others? The problem. I had was people can pairing. What the college kid was doing to their actual jobs. The only person working that day was Tom Izzo. He's the only one running paycheck. The kid isn't earning a penny. I mean, it just not well, what are your thoughts? Here's someone who loves Tom Izzo. And that someone who would lose his temper on the sideline. Look, here's what I think people are missing though. I is we're taking that as as one incident, and we're seeing it, and I understand the optics of it. Okay. But what we're missing or what people are missing is the entirety of Thomas owes relationship with that player in. With that team. And to me, the most telling thing was reading the reading the comments of his current team players on his current team and his former players and Tom has a relationship number one where they know that he cares about him. And number two that his methods have gotten the most out of them. And they appreciate that. Now, they probably don't appreciate it in the moment. But the bottom line is those guys are going to Michigan state to become better as players, and hopefully it goes beyond that. And it's as students and as men, and I think at Michigan state, it is because of the relationship Tom has so people can question his methods, but his methods of worked. He didn't hit the kid. He got loud and yelled atom, I guarantee you that kids have done the same thing players have done the same thing back to him. It's that. Heat of the moment thing that if you haven't been in high level athletics, you don't understand. And you don't appreciate I mean. I I know what people would like to do is have the guy come over and him say, listen, what I'd like you to do is, you know, run back a little harder. If you could that would help us that's not going to happen in the heat of the battle in in major college athletics or professional athletics. I understand people are sensitive about it. And I do know, and I've been one who has stepped over the line at times, I'm not saying that doesn't happen. But I thought way too much was made of this stand you can win and being affective coach without doing that. He could have done what you just adjusted, and maybe it's still had the same effect right there account examples of people who have won without doing with Tom Izzo did which was basically emasculated kid at center. Cordo national TV. Well, that was the thing. It was on center court on national TV, and yes, you can win with all different kinds. Of demeanor as a coach there's no question about that. That's Tom's personality. And again, I mean we have in. It's not like we've we've seen this big uprising of Michigan state players or former Michigan state players who then could say something. They went their full..

"I am now betrayed STAN. Van gundy. I didn't get a good shot of him because he was moving around and stuff, but he was feeling bad Mike because he had publicly declared that he would wear the David Stern shirt if we send it and so he called me FaceTime me. I don't even care what he thinks of it either. By the way, like if this Rex our relationship, then so be it. I got no problem with that. Because I always leave the van Gundy's to be people who were truthful, especially their parents like, and Jeff and STAN have been stained by him promising to do this for us and then walking it back because he's afraid of thin-skinned David Stern. So my brother is stained by me going back on my word, the Van Gundy name, all of Gandhi name all van Gundy's sly kids, everybody am I wrong. Yes. Your kids. Everybody. Am I am? I wrong. You want to defend yourself because you sound like a broken trying to defend myself. I did go back on my word. I decided that that was not something that I should do. But I don't think that should affect anyone other than me. It's not how it works on his shows. No. Oh, wow. We just put her on television. I I think that's pretty incriminating. Mike, Mike that looks pretty incriminating to me the shot. I got him. Also gonna put it on Instagram. So you can weigh in Lubbock toward show. All right. Yeah. So the betrayal as are just hanging me out to dry here. That is correct. And you will eat it. Let's talk some basketball with STAN Van Gundy. This is what I want. I want to give you some numbers. Here's two guys because the Boston Celtics were almost finals good last year or quarter away from being finals good last year. They added Kyrie Irving it's been season of no fun at all the Philadelphia. Seventy Sixers standing and Gundy last week told us that's as good as starting five. Now, you add Tobias Harris. That's a good starting five as anybody. But the the warriors and yet Boston every damn time. They play Philadelphia they wipe the floor with them. And Furthermore, Joel Embiid was a physical specimen of uncommon size and strength. He gets neutralized all the time by the old man game of Al Horford. Listen to these stats because Boston is ten and two in his last twelve games against Philadelphia. You saw that without kyri and Gordon Hayward. They dismissed Simmons and Embiid and five games in the play on might say, the Celtics have their number so Horford when when Joel Embiid is guarded by Horford. He is twenty-five of seventy when he's guarded by anyone else. He's forty eight for fifty two. Stan what the hell man Al has Joe number. What the hell no question that. And that's really the reason for the for the mismatch between the two teams. Now, I think Brett Brown made the point after the game. And he's absolutely right. It's a whole new team for the Sixers, and they haven't been together at all. So I don't think that they're necessarily overly worried about having to play them in the playoffs..

"I don't want oversell this because I haven't heard it yet. But if you're just joining us, STAN Van Gundy is a liar. Stan Van Gundy. We mailed him. A tee shirt to wear today that is of David Stearns face with a clown knows. We were talking about this during the Super Bowl when barstool and they've got that shirt with Roger Goodell and a clown nose. And we didn't know if Sean Payton was wearing that under his shirt, and when we were having that conversation, I believe STAN Van Gundy promised that he would wear that shirt. So we have mailed it to him. And now he is just I mean, just a chicken just it's terrible. And so Mike, I don't want oversell this, but Stu gods? What should be the stakes here on? If we provide proof that STAN Van Gundy did indeed agree to do this. He's gotta wear it for multiple shows instead of just one show. I mean, that's I think that's fair. Right. Gotta wear for a week. Gotta wear it everywhere around and they're all platforms. There have to be stakes to this whereabouts. No matter what you play. I'm not gonna trust you because you guys Dr audio all the time as evidenced by really hot Brooks is an idiot. Said you said it again did not. You guys are the worst. All right. Well, no, we're not the worst. You're the worst the worst word. And so let's Mike I want to know what the stakes are though, there have to be consequences. He can't be. I can't believe STAN Van Gundy as gods like weasel trying to get out of this bet that he already agreed to stick. Insult Stu guts. Because of me. I mean, you were just the catalyst. He was going to do that. Anyway, it's the formula. Stan don't they? Without further ado, here's the undocked possibly if we were to send you a shirt of David Stern with a clown nose. Would you wear it on ESPN news for us? Yeah. I probably would. I'm not worried. I certainly wouldn't be worried about offending David Stern. I mean, who's one of the most thin skinned people that I've ever been around. That is doctored staying, no, that's not dot. I remember that. You're right. All right. So now where are we now? We've got you bought, you know, for the moment, I've had time to think about it. I I wouldn't do it. Now. Let's listen type probably okay. Take that out. Mike. I want to point out the hypocrisy of this. Because Mike, I want you to listen to STAN Gundy in his own words, not doctored saying flatly, he's not afraid of David Stern..

"I know as no Gundy to settle the debate a chilly cheese Fredo, Chris long alleged Walter Payton man of the year says the chilli cheese frito is a first ballot hall of fame chip. Yes. Or no, Jeff, then Gundy, I would have no idea. I wouldn't put that in my mouth. Could call good call today. Eight you saved it. Good call. All right. Thank you. Jeff for coming on everyone. Let's down. Okay. This has been a very aggressive star to our Friday plane Eminem's are so much better. Put them in a bit. Flirt, cook you get out of here. Anybody find it weird that those most opinionated Jeff Van gonna say when we've ever had? Donlevatar camping Gundy, look like the guy at the gym who pays out of the bottom of a short to God's a wrong thing this season live at our show with Stu gods on ESPN radio. We will get to the basket ball stuff with STAN Van Gundy, I'm assuming at some point Mike Ryan came in here today. Swaggering saying how does it feel Dan to take all those ELLs on trade deadline day? Stugatz is waving sausage fingers at me and saying I told you, Dan, I told you so and so what I was saying STAN, and what I've been saying for years is that much of what happens at the trade deadline is not very useful. Most of it. There might have been couple of trades yesterday. We all in marriage that will affect the balance of power in the east some. But that we waste a lot of time with these transactions and most of the stuff that happened yesterday doesn't matter and it's just noisy. You know contracts being sent away so people can clear salary cap. How do you experience yesterday? You enjoy it. I mean, I find it interesting. Some of the moves I thought there were actually probably more impactful moves of at this trade deadline than there have been in a lot of years. Certainly the Philadelphia move was big the Toronto move Milwaukee made big moves I thought full-scale into Orlando was pretty big the earlier Dallas, New York trade I thought was pretty impactful. So I thought actually in a lot of ways more happen than usual. And did you hear Dan right there? Stugatz. He just pooh-poohed shift in the balance of power. That's what he does. You cannot Papu a shift in the balance of power put it on the poll year. Can you poop power you mentioned faults? Stan that the process in Philadelphia, which is just get as many players as you want. It doesn't matter if the good ones are actually good the top picks because as long as you hit on Embiid and Simmons you will be a lot better. But good God. What a disaster the whole like they've had a couple of John. Bust their historic busts in Philadelphia with all that processing, well, but it doesn't matter because they've they've been able to put together a good team anyway. And so, you know, people aren't going to analyze every single move. And they're right. Not to look at. It's the overall result. It's the one thing I hate about when they grade these individual trades. It's not who wins a trade, or you know, who wins even a majority of the trades Tuesday able to put together the best team and Philadelphia has been able to do that with their use of their salary cap and with trades and with a couple of draft picks. Yeah, they haven't hit on a real high percentage in the draft. And the full thing is probably the lowest point of their draft. But regardless they may have the second best starting lineup in the NBA right now. So the fact that they missed on Marquel? Foltz is really pretty meaningless in in the overall picture. I think with dad saying, and he's probably. Right here is with all the activity yesterday..

"Radio. Forgive me here on the front end for publicly betraying, my friend. Stan Van Gundy, but he threw just an enormous temper tantrum during the break because we didn't get his nuggets. We couldn't get to his. Nuggets. And he thinks it's disrespectful. He's a name. He's a he's royalty. The Van Gundy name is royalty in basketball. And they don't learn at anybody's name people. Learn at the knees of the van Gundy's. And so when he's got nuggets we should be going to the nuggets. He's a credible basketball source. He knows more about this stuff than we do loves basketball. He's great at the analysis and disrespected the only thing that's credible. Right. So yeah, it's a crack. And so, but but he lost a lot of respect from me. Okay. Not not all of it. But like ninety seven percent with this temper tantrum that he threw don't laugh I now you're trying to pretend to camouflage it nobody saw your hostility more than I did during the break. So fine. Let's do it credible. Standing gundy. Let's go ahead. And do your three crappy. James harden, nuggets aren't going to be a lot different than the three nuggets the week before that or the week before that. Timing. How fortunate I'm sorry stand. Robinson? He's gonna get mad again. He's gonna get mad at me my slam. He is. He's furious. Looking at. All right. The magic creative content. We always stop when the magic creative content is there. What does it say? There's to God looky looky. What are the three most interesting things about James harden as of January twenty four two thousand nineteen? God want to win. Has magical powers? So go ahead. Stan the third-best hot basketball nugget to throw in America's face is. Well, actually, Stu guts stole my one about the unassisted basket. So we'll go with last night became the first player since March of two thousand to score sixty points and grabbed fifteen rebounds in the same game. Week effort because to God's look. It's never a good thing for your now. Get STAN when you say Stu gods had the thought before I really it's no good. Let's be honest. I stole it from somewhere. I know you stole by. Find the way Stu guts, it's nine thirty four mountain time. The second best nugget from stand Van Gundy about James harden, which makes it about the ninth best noggin because he's had nothing. But James harden, nuggets, he's on the teams hardened beat. He's like what would what window system? Lebron inven- Gundy. His James harden. Go ahead. What's your second? Best puckett? Not only is James harden. A great player. He's the hero of the analytics guys who only want players to shoot free throws layups in threes last night in New York. He became the first player in league history to shoot twenty three's and twenty free throws in the same game. That good ones, Dan, you should be proud of that one give you a hard time with that was a good one. And finally, the best James harden nugget from this week is. Speaking of hardens free throw attempts shut twenty five last night and leads the league shooting almost twelve again, focus on him being given calls as a major reason for his success. But the fact is if we eliminated free throws and only field goals twos. And threes heartened would still. Yes. Those final twos. Yeah. She brought it after you took his original original thought I wanted to ask you about a story segues awkwardly. It fascinated me yesterday in the Atlantic because it was exhaustively reported, and I believed to be among these public figures who have shame themselves. Louis C K Kevin Spacey. I believe it. "That last little sound there that changes that rejoin and sounded a little bit sensual in nature from STAN Van Gundy is replacing what used to be there, which is the famous STAN Van Gundy, quote from you know, ten years ago around here, we've been doing it show for a long time, we misrepresented him badly one time by editing together. What sounded like STAN Van Gundy? Very sternly calling Scott Brooks an idiot. Stan Van Gundy was fine with that back. When Scott Brooks wasn't an idiot. But now, the Washington Wizards wanna trade everybody, and STAN Van Gundy doesn't want his name attached anymore to Scott Brooks is an idiot. Do I have everything there? Right. Santa my misrepresenting anything you're being the sensitive coach. It was. Okay. When Scott Brooks was winning. But it's not okay anymore. We've been playing this sound for ten years. Ten damn years. Scott Brooks is an idiot. Great great sound. I don't know if he ever confronted you about it. He should have because we played the hell out of Scott Brooks is an idiot. And then you demanded that we took it down as soon as he went sub five hundred Scott Brooks is an idiot. First of all, I didn't command. I just said it's not I didn't like it. It's not as funny. You know? I mean when when Scott Brooks is winning sixty five percent of his games. It's clearly a joke. And when the when the wizards are struggling, you know, if it's people who haven't listened for a long time. How about we handle the funny? How about we handle the funny? You take care of just making flammable statement, you might check the coaches, we'll handle the fight. Here's the point. I didn't make that statement ever. That's not true. Listen, I don't know what's happening here. But this guy clearly propaganda king liar. There is no disputing. You. Didn't say this Scott Brooks is an idiot is. That. Say that absolutely put that together. I did not put it together thing. That's the only thing on my side in that that people will believe it is. They know how crazy you guys are. So you know, they will then we should be allowed to hang it. Because honestly, there is nothing that proves to me that the wizards are idiot proof in leadership nothing. They're not allowed to have anything. I don't know about that. But Scott's not an idiot. Scott's a damn good coat. Oh, there's. Places sound bite for that history. Will prove that out. I mean, the guy is is a great winning percentage. You know? So that when you're going to have a hard time Arctic sit next open, we'll close with Scott Brooks is a really good coach. And that's the kind of radio we need around here. Let's pivot from STAN Van Gundy. Coach protectors and Van Gundy into other matters because it has been really funny this morning to read the information coming out of Cleveland Browns camp that includes porn a federally indicted owner who escaped the federally indicted chargers behaving in a way that I imagine Jerry Jones behaves in the shadows. But you never hear me just referred to one of his employees as Obama Jimmy has them would apparently have these meetings with team brass and he's eating a hardboiled egg the entire time leaving shell casings on the floor. It's one of the more appalling and rich people things I've ever seen. Quicker sham reported this story. We gotta get it in front of STAN, and we got to get it in front of Stu gods. Because this is the story that people are going to be talking about today like the Browns. I mean, they were even more of a mess than you think they were. It's a juicy headline like all of it. He description of the article how long is it though. Well, that's the problem out here. Four minutes before the show started blaming Lorenzo for something as Danny how much time was in your segment, which is always a minute and didn't read anything sometimes it's fifty sometimes it's a minute twenty. I mean, you never know. That's why ask them so upset was set the timing of this article, and I know what sort of position as Baker can pull us through all of this. But as a Browns fan, your concern is is this going to drag this unicorn down to so do you think that Hugh Jackson actually told has lem get the bleep out of my office..

"This two guys on ESPN radio. Dan, Van Gundy is with us as he will be throughout the basketball seasons to gots just saw something from John Carey that he thought that STAN Van Gundy would find interesting before we get to the polls to recap the day. Staying Jona tweeted out an article the Yankees are loading up on their bullpen, and it changes how much money they're spending. Elsewhere the Yankees it used to be there used to be a time where Bryce Harper was available in the Yankees would just get him. Boom, see ya and they worry about the rest later. But now they spent fifty million last year in the bullpen, STAN and Jona is saying that number could go up to seventy five eighty million next season. And the Anki seemed to be willing to at least try to go with relievers like two three innings at a time. Just go pitcher pitcher pitcher pitcher two three innings at a time. Which is an interesting shift in an interesting way. The Yankees are doing their business spending money on relievers. Not bryce. Harper. What do you think about that? Well, that's the trend. Right. I mean, a lot of people are going to carry one more pitcher now and one less position player. You know, we've seen people, you know, us relievers to open games, we've seen people using more and more pitchers. So I I think it's a trend, and I think the Yankees are are spending wisely because those guys have proven to be extremely valuable. They may not have the big names of Bryce Harper or Manny Machado, but they seem to be very very relevant in terms of winning games. They're paying thirteen million dollars to a guy who was considered to be their third or fourth best reliever. Think about that. But he's valuable to them because they're going to do this thing where they pitch a couple of what who was who was the head of this was that the rays like this is the new trend in the sport the Craig counsel of the world. I think Kevin cash from the race started it this is the new trend. It also makes it harder to watch STAN because nobody can make contact because everyone coming out of the bullpen is throwing one hundred seventeen miles an hour. Yeah. There's no question about that. I mean the game. I think isn't as fun to watch. Because it's become a strikeout. Walk home run league. The ball's not in play a lot. I think that part of it's tough from fan standpoint. But again, just like we were talking with James harden and Mike, Dan, Tony earlier. I mean, your your job is to is to win games. And that's been very effective in winning games. The race started the thing with the what they were calling the opener. I think Craig councils use of his bull. Pin was probably. Unique to what we've seen in very very effective. So yeah, the way pitching staffs are managed now is totally different than what we've seen even four or five years ago. We got when we've talked before about how ESPN classic is a great myth destroyer was a great myth destroyer because you can see that Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova were playing Patty cake, and that the Williams sisters are just hitting the ball harder than all of today's women and men are better athletes than we had forty or fifty years ago when Larry Bird wasn't making one hundred three's in a single season. Once he was these evolutions in real time to me standard always fascinating because these two ever Lucians the reliever coming out of the pen, throwing one hundred miles an hour and every arm being explosive strikeout and the shift those two evolutions help people win and really hurt the customer watching the sport. Yeah. There's no question. Look, I think it's been the same thing in the in the NBA, I think that people have to this point always associated scoring in the NBA with being more exciting. But, but look, you know, I said to my brother the other day, I said these teams shooting forty fifty three's a night. I mean, Houston has a lot of games where they take more threes than twos. That's not at least to me. That's not exciting. I mean, that's like watching suburban high school basketball at a much higher level, obviously. But we're our league is exciting to me is those great athletes like challenging each other at the rim and you used to see multiple plays like that in an NBA game, their rare..

Because a lot of basketball games Wednesdays. We can't get guests from basketball. And so we want to take full advantage of the fact that standards here on Thursday to get basketball guests so Donnie Walberg gonna join us at four and a half hour. And Zach Lowe at some point as well, which I feel like we could have gotten whether or not stand was here, evidently, Popovich incur and all the other calls that you put out coach K everything else. Got shut down. What happened Popovich said? He couldn't do it right now. Maybe down the road Steve Kerr at a couple of weeks. He will do it with us after thanksgiving. He did say that. I can't believe again eleven one straight. Army's good this year. I've been making fun of this is good this year. Colgate see stand. Have you given any consideration was it ever conversation with the pistons on whether or not you guys we're going to be able to turn gambling into a money source? Didn't never get that far because the league was trying to figure out some of the particulars. Well, it never got there on straight sports betting. But you know, there was there was already stuff with, you know, the daily fantasy stuff, and you know, we we put it up in the arena and everything else. So there was draft kings and forget what the other one is. I'm not into all that stuff. But you know. So there was talk of it. It's been going on for a while. And how do you feel about it? Like does it make you an easy? It sports have always tried to at least give the appearance that they're separating themselves from gambling in every way. So the idea of basketball wanting to profit off of percentage off of the amount. That's gambled. Yeah. There's something about that. That doesn't feel that feel doesn't feel comfortable. Well, I actually think it's more comfortable than having it all underground. And and you know, behind the scenes, I think being out front about it. We we've known gifts sports gambling's been going on for a long long time. I rather have it legalized. Regulated and everything else. So yeah, I think it's a good idea. Call gates giving up twelve points in their last eight games at points combine and I'm fifty one nothing before the first cake. I mean, how about that fifty one to nothing of Alabama right now. Hold on hold on. That's a surprise. By the way. I said it L fifty one Annella Bama this early. But Colgate gave it to Lee high forty eight to six you don't just give it to Lee hideout way, really or Lee Lehigh, really good. No, he's he's being sarcastic. But STAN listen to this. "Stan Van Gundy in with us as he is Wednesdays during basketball season, we will get to his hot nuggets is hot basketball nuggets in your face in a second. But let's go around the room, and guests, you guys have a theory or a guess on where STAN Van Gundy side in the Kyrie Irving debate. Where Murray's going for fifty at the end of the game all of a sudden Kyrie's flipping out about unwritten rules, and that you're not allowed to shoot. When the other team's not playing defense it guys trying to get to fifty do. We have some predictions here before I go to STAN Van Gundy on what STAN Van Gundy opinion is going to be on this. He's not happy with Kyrie not happy with Kyrie. Why just because you can't be throwing balls into the stands? Okay. Do you have a theory here on which way, this is going to go? We did this on Instagram live. So I'm going to recuse myself. Okay. Mike Ryan, what about you? Both are. Wrong. Both are wrong both of the players Murray. And Kyrie Irving are wrong. That's my take that his that's going to be his take ROY. Do. You have a do. You have a guest. Yeah. He's going to side with Kyrie. Don't try to run up the score me. He's gonna crush all Murray. All right. So that we've got every option is taken. Let's see which one stand. Choose not every option someone wanting to say, he's not gonna have a problem with it. It's cool across the board. All right. Well, that's another one of the options. Alright stan. So which is it. Well, look, I mean Jamal Murray maybe shouldn't have taken the shot. But I don't like people crying about you know, guys running up the score and things like that. What kyri should have been upset about is that Jamal Murray got forty eight on him. And if they got their butts kicked, that's what should have upsetting the rest of that stuff is stuff. I'd never complained about Bobby Bowden. I think said it best when he was at Florida state the responsibility for not getting the score run up on. You is the team that's getting beat. Well, it's so strange. Kyrie Irving is reacting like an old person. Isn't he twenty six? Well, he's look he's frustrated. I get it. You know, everybody on that team. Anybody would be you know, you got beaten. You're good team in Boston season hasn't gotten off to his great start as you know. Like, you thought it would then you're getting beaten and the guy had a great game against you. You're frustrated. That's all it was. So I don't read too much into it. But you know, look he shouldn't have shot it but come on. I mean, that's not the issue. The issue is we got to play better in and get a win. Stan you say he shouldn't have shot. But why not? I mean, it's Jamal Murray hasn't had much to be happy about over the last couple of years what I'm trying to get his fifty. I mean, why not get fifty? I mean, look again, I wouldn't have if I was on the other side, I wouldn't have any complaints. But I would if that were my guy walking off the court, I wouldn't make a huge deal about it. I would just say look, that's just something. You don't do in that situation Dez Bryant has signed a one year contract with the saints Dez Bryant is going to be a Saint. But we segue seamlessly from that putting STAN van Gundy's nuggets in.

"Wow. And and because of his youth, what you're saying is that's the guy that everybody if given, if if given the choice. Every team in the league would think that he is better than their best player given over the next ten years. Well, his certainly last longer I would think I don't know about every team. He can never say that, but he would be the consensus guy to be able to build your team around. I think who is two three and four out west according to STAN Van Gundy. Houston, Portland, Denver. Whoa. Whoa, not necessarily. Not necessarily in that order though. Whoa, that's a bit surprising. I don't think any. I don't think many people have that two, three, four like that. Like the nuggets that high and Portland that high. Well, first of all, there wasn't much difference between Portland in Denver last year. Portland was the was the three seed in Denver didn't make the playoffs and the difference was three win. So there's not much of a difference when you get past Golden State and Houston anyway. So yeah, I think Denver they've continued to get better. They've got a great young core. If again, health is going to determine it with all of these, I love Portland's two guards. They're playing great early in the year. They're getting some development at Zach Collins who was really the guy who dominated that Laker game and Houston still. That's number two team. I think let me help me understand this because you were saying LeBron has started a slow, and you were saying it's the quality of play at west. If you're telling us that Portland and Denver improve the west is even stronger this year, because New Orleans is going to be better and so is San Antonio. So you're watching during the first first week of the season. Here you're watching improvement from teams that aren't even the ones generally considered the best in in the west. So what's happened with LeBron so far I'm taking it your noticing how bad their defensive. Well, yeah, but that's everybody in the league. I mean, right now there's not a lot of defense being played in the league and it's not because people don't care about it. It's because of the rules right now always called tighter early in the year. Right now, it's being called very, very tight. It's almost impossible to defend. I actually would be encouraged if I were the Lakers I think they've played three very competitive games against good teams. And then in the Senate Tonio game, they didn't have to start. So I think they should be encouraged by their start, not discouraged. Donlevatar can see casino. What did I say? I think stugatz is dyslexic, perhaps stugatz might can we do some sort of dyslexia Tex test, and now I'm struggling rubbing off on a dislikes it test somewhere is their way to find on the internet. Something that would allow us to to do a funny dyslexia test. But if. It's proven to be true, then we aren't allowed to laugh at it anymore. Right point. Let's not do that. These are show with this two guys on ESPN radio. We are grateful for the outspoken controversial voice of STAN Van Gundy here every Wednesday, dangerous flammable find more than just about anyone in basketball history. Not named Mark. Cuban selects revisit some of the emotional STAN Van Gundy post games and pre games. He gave us the good stuff and then we'll get twenty seconds of analysis and recall from STAN Van Gundy on the back end. So let's let's begin with the first stand Van Gundy soundbite. Yeah. I mean, if I saw it, I would have called well, you know what? Your damn job is to see it referees. I loved it. That's like an excuse. Well, I didn't see what the hell do we have out here. He's the guy cutting. That's where the ball is being passed. It's not happening on the weak side of the floor. It's embarrassing. It's bear. Sing for them and embarrassing for the league. They're not gonna make that call. That was embarrassing. We got absolutely screwed tonight at one a year detail recall and how much did that cost you. Oh, wow. I mean David Stern, air, those all cost you about thirty five thousand atoms been a little nicer. Closer to like fifteen thousand for most of them..
