"Slow to break midnight getaway. I'm gonna come back try courageous copper quick off the blocks and leads early on from first timer frosted bird who's away in second. It's a gap of two to blue lieutenant who's well situated third at the inside, followed fourth by luscious dancer, then it's back to midnight getaway in red gun and left behind last as go go green. Around the four turn up to three furlong point courageous copper as the lead three parts of a length frosted bird taking up the slack second. It's a gap of two to blue lieutenant, who's racing together with luscious dancer, third and fourth. Midnight getaway is in tight well toward the inside. Then back to red gun, go go green as last as they turn for the money toward the inside its courageous copper trying to hold off frosted bird on the outside. Courageous copper is still in front. He's turned away frosted bird with an 8th of a mile remaining red gun. Down the center in midnight, getaways out the rail, but a sharp start is gonna get courageous copper on first. Courageous copper well prepared off the long lay off to win by 5. Good battle then for a second. It's either red gun or midnight getaway, then back to luscious dancer and 57 flat. Unofficially one in a place photo between numbers two and four and the finale at Gulfstream park courageous copper had not been seen since April last year and one of those two year old four and a half furlong races on the dirt track really didn't do anything that day. Got beat almost 40 lengths back off a long layoff for Mary lightner gelded since that race pops the gate and drops in class and gonzo is number one courageous copper who gets the job done at a nice price. We'll get you those prices in a few minutes. Before we go to break, it's time now for the bloodhorse news update and a look at the top headlines from bloodhorse dot com.

"The 50 cent tried $35, the dollar super $169, even. All right, let's head back out to Gulfstream park, their final race on the card is the 9th race of the day. And this 9th race is a maiden event. It is for. Three year olds and up that are Florida breads. This is this maiden, it's a it's not a maiden optional claiming. It's maidens, if you're a Florida bread, you can run as a maiden special. You're not in for the tag. Or if you're not Florida bread, you're in for the $40,000 tag. 6 for a long on the fast main track scratch numbers 8 and 9. So we've got 7 of them going to post here. Even money favorite is number three Dominican ice. And if you're somebody that bets Gulfstream park on a year round basis, you're very well. You're very well in tune with Dominican ice because he's run a lot of times. He's old for ten coming into this race today. He has been second or third 6 of those ten starts. But beaten at odds of 8 to 5 and 7 to 5 in his last two tries. Now, he has been running against maiden special weight competition, including during the tougher part of the season, you know, the December January February March, part of the year. This is the first time that he's in for a tad. He goes for a barn and Jose Jimenez who does not win a lot of races and a jockey in albeit who also does not win a lot of races. They have been the connections for Dominican ice for at least 5 of his last 6 starts. This is by far the softest spot that Dominican ice has seen. I'm not going to say it's now or never for Dominican ice because there are some variables in this race. There's a first time starter in number one fight who is showing fast works. There's a horse on the outside song runner who was only 9 to two in his lone star, he ended up being pulled up and eased out of the race, but he shows fast works since then, so my guess is that something just went wrong that day and you can kind of draw a line through it. But for the most part, this is a softer field than Dominican ice has seen in quite some time. I'm not going to advocate that this is the best even money shot I've ever seen. It's by far not the best, even money shot I've ever seen. But he should be a major player in this body, a horse that can show speed, but even if he doesn't get the lead, he doesn't completely throw in the towel. So interesting to see what he does today facing what you would think would be a softer field of competition. With the call of race 9 at Gulfstream. Locked in all set. And runners away. Poor beginnings for wheat shift and fight at the back. Good start for little big who heads off for the early lead royal latitude is on to challenge song runner displaying speed. He's on the far

"Is a storm brewing. The bank gets down on the inside. Brooklyn strong is up close and there goes sea foam now from the extreme outside and sea foam has now taken the lead from there as a storm brewing. Market alert is now up into third bank it down to the rail runs in fourth. Brooklyn strong is 5th. Tear gas on the outside insects and three jokers. Trails the field in 7th. As they head up the backstretch, the quarter went in 24 and two. It's sea foam by a length. Market alert runs in second with air is a storm brewing, Justin behind the front two and in third. And then comes a Brooklyn strong next and fourth. Bank it is 5th about four and a half lengths from the lead. And then tear gan and three jokers all chasing. Sea foam, around the half mile in 48 seconds. And takes the field into the far turn. It is sea foam on top here. With market alert, still in second. And now it's two lengths back to bank it in third. And another two, two Brooklyn strong, tear gan is on the outside, still with a lot to do as they come for the top of the stretch. It is sea foam and market alert. They've been one two right from the start, and they are right together into the stretch. Here's market alert in the blue blinkers on the inside sea foam battles on. It is sea foam who's holding the lead banks on the outside now coming up to challenge. It is banking and sea foam. And those two are together with a 16th of the finish. Back it on the outside. See foam on the inside. The two of them will fight it out to the finish and it's going to be tight and it looked like bank got it. A photo finish. It will be in the Evan shipman handicap. Bankit and seafoam. Now the race I came right down to the wire we've seen some pretty close finishes today at Saratoga. This one between number one bankit closing to the outside of number 7 seafoam who took the lead shortly after the start, I think John embryo had it right. It looked like bankit ended up getting his nose down at the right time. And I think he might have actually won by a head in this race, looks like one 7 and a photo in the Evan shipman final time for the mile one 39 and one. I don't know what to make of these times. Especially coming out of this new shoot because I mean, that certainly sounds slow. One 39 and one, not that the track has been playing super fast today. But these are accomplished runners here. Already with ten wins from 26 career starts. In fact, it was the defending champion of the Evan shipman, but that was when the race was a myelin in 8th last year. A mile this year and ends up giving it up. I don't even say I wouldn't even say he gave it up. Bank it just came and got it from him. But second best to bank at one 7 two 6, the unofficial top four two to one 9 to two 22 to one Brooklyn strong finishing third and 9 to one market alert completing the super effective. We will have those prices for you in just a little bit. Over at Gulfstream park, the horses are in the walking ring. The riders are up for the 5th race there. It says 5 minutes to post. All the money in my pocket, if they get out of the starting gate in the next 5 minutes to anyone listening right now. Listen, I'm not joking about that. I'm just saying, if they tried, they couldn't get there in 5 minutes from now. If you have not been to Gulfstream park, it's a very unique facility. And I still call it the new Gulf Stream, even though this building is probably been there ten, 12 years by now. But the new Gulfstream. Has a saddling enclosure, which is underneath. So the public does not get to see the horses being saddled, like you may get to do if you're out at delmar or at Santa Anita or up at Saratoga or at Monmouth or places like that. They have them underneath, which is kind of like surrounding where the jocks room is. And then what the horses will do is they'll come when they're saddled, they'll be taken to the right and down a little like faux brick path, you know, like those rubberized bricks down into the actual walking ring. If you will, where it's kind of a stadium seating type of atmosphere, there are a lot of seats around the ring, they're standing room and there's even two more floors above that that you can stand and watch the horses where the trainers are out there and giving the jockeys a leg up on the horses. And then once the jockeys are back up on the horses, then they go back up a little bit of an incline underneath through the Saturn saddling enclosure out the other side of the building right turn heading toward the racetrack and they have to do it. So now it takes a while. Let's put it that way. For the horses at Gulfstream park to get from the walking ring to the starting gate. They couldn't get there fast if they wanted to. So the horses are coming onto the track now with allegedly three minutes to post for this 5th race at Gulfstream. By the way, this is

"Line up across the course without the crossroads looking for an early advantage feeding through along the rail my Cajun lady has speed in between horses, both skip to my loot and the astonishing annabelle. I'm a far outside its miss Ukrainian. There's 6 across the course here via drops back last, but she's not far away. And in fact, creeping closer with a rail run. They go to the opening quarter bark, my Cajun lady has the lead. Now moves through from last up into a joint second without the crossroads. Astonishing annabelle is next on the far outside its miss you crania in between horses goes moon rose and shuffled to last skip to my loot. They leave the backstretch and move on to the forester in 22 and four for the opening quarter up front. It's still my Cajun lady and Miguel Vasquez on top by two and a half at the crossroads is there a second moon rose is now third after a brief bit via dropped back toward the rail, astonishing annabella's between horses, miss Ukrainians, three wide and skipped to my loot as last as my Cajun lady tries to run them off their legs less than a quarter of a mile ago, a confident look over the shoulder from Miguel Vasquez and my Cajun lady is 5 on top. Second is at the crossroads, trying to work home from the back astonishing annabelle with moon rose, but this one's long over with an 8th of a mile to go. My Cajun lady just running up the score. My Cajun lady, another flashy daughter of Cajun breeze for Stonehenge MLC. She's geared down and wrapped up my Cajun lady, dominant. Good battle here for second, astonishing annabelle, nabbed second late from at the crossroads who had to settle for third, skip to my loot is fourth. One 26 and two. Unofficially two, three, 5, four and the third race at Gulfstream park. My Cajun lady also coming off her career debut. She finished third that day going 6 for a long speed in 5 lengths, showed a lot more speed today got out in front of this field and never looked back. Not going to say that she's a front or nothing type of Philly, but she certainly showed a lot more speed today than she did in her debut and no signs of stopping and was actually under just a complete tug down the lane as Miguel Vasquez really didn't have to ask her for the last 16th or so trainer Michael Yates winning at about an 11% clip this meat. This is a guy who is very underrated, very underrated. He is not a big name around the country for folks that don't watch Gulf Stream on a regular basis or maybe don't pay attention other than the championship meet. This is one of those guys that is kind of under the radar that you have to pay attention to. One, he seems like he always has a bunch of two year olds. Two, they all seem to fire first time out, and most of them seem to show speed. Now, my Cajun lady ended up running a decent race in her career debut. She ran a lot better today. By the way, covering the 7 furlongs in one 26 and two doesn't sound all that fast, but the way she did it was very, very impressive, two, three, 5, four in the third race at Gulfstream park. By the way, a couple other things noticing. I will be perfectly honest with everybody. I pay more attention to Gulfstream during the championship meet than I do this time of year. Simply because let's face it, there's great racing other parts of the country and arguably better on a day to today basis than what we see at Gulfstream Saratoga is one del mar is another one and there are a few others out there as well that are very, very good. There have been some changes at Gulfstream park if you're watching the races or if you haven't seen them in a while. First of all, they look like they have a little bit of a different graphics package. It's the same between races, but there's a different sort of a graphics look during the race that I think is a little bit cleaner. Also, they've had nothing but trouble with their timing mechanism over the last few years. And last year was as bad as ever at Gulfstream park. And what I was told was that they were going to abandon the timing system in the company that they were using over the last years and go back to what they had used in previous years company wise. And I don't want to mention the names. And hopefully things would be better. So I don't know if that's what's happened, but I can tell you this. There is a running clock at the top right corner of the screen for Gulfstream races right now, which gives you kind of the running down so you know the all the way down to the hundreds of the second one, two, three, and it gets to the quarter and it stops in 22.98. Now it's going to the half. So I don't know if that's just part of the new graphics package or that's something that was put in by if they changed timing companies that went along with it. Whether it's new or not, it makes you feel as a better, more confident in the timing. So I don't know if it's, we're going to have to ask the folks at Gulfstream park. We dive a little bit deeper into them later on in the season. Maybe I'll get PIL to come on and let us know what he knows about that and see if they actually have changed the timing mechanisms because that was another thing. It was amazing how often the timer malfunctioned during this past Gulf Stream championship meet. And to the point where it really would, you know, if you were operating the track, you have to be embarrassed. Between the fact that you couldn't really the turf course was a disaster and the timer was messing up. And by the way, they've built a screen in the infield that's so tall that the camera can't see over it for about 6 or 8 seconds when the running down the back stretch. If you ever watch these races at Gulfstream, you'll notice that they cut away to a head on shot when their midpoint on the backstretch and all the races. Well, the reason they do that is because the pan camera can't see over the TV screen that's in the middle of the infield. Which is another ridiculous thing. All right, officially two, three, 5, four in the third race at Gulfstream. We'll get you

As I mentioned, we're going to have racing live action today from both Saratoga and Gulfstream park haven't got to see a whole lot of Gulfstream park during these summer months. Of course, with Saratoga open now and del mar just opening last week and stakes racing other parts of the country and even north of the border great action up at woodbine. We haven't got to see a whole lot of Gulfstream park, but able to fit in a race or two today. They're actually going to the gate for race number three on the card. This race a mile on the main track, by the way, about 90° right now in South Florida humid as typical this time of year, partly cloudy skies, main track as fast. These are made in Phillies and mayors in for a 12 5 tag going to one turn mile on the main track. We've got a field of 7. Heavy favorite right now is number four hot bodie, a daughter of bodemeister for Scott acker, who's not having a great start to this summer meet at Gulfstream, only clicking at about 5% over all, but hot Bodhi certainly a chance to get the Scott acker barn back in the wind column simply put hot Bodhi has been facing much tougher competition than what she's used today all four of her career starts were against maiden special weight competition and although she wasn't really close to winning those races. She was running mid pack and you would think dropping all the way down to the bottom to this maiden 12 5 level would be just the trick to give her a shot. Last few runners are going in, waiting on number 6 crooklyn, long shot in here. Number 7 holiday princess will complete the line. Pete aiello with the rest of the load and the call at Gulfstream. They're at the post. And they're off. Good start in the center for ultimate breeze on the stretch out she's heading off for the yearly lead. Rough enough has speed, Perez is riding provocative into the race. Provocative looks like she wants to lead. She'll have to go quick to do it, but now she's in front. Out of the shoot, provocative is in front. Al Perez takes a hold, racing second is ultimate breeze who's right alongside. Rough enough is outsprinted today. She's now third as they try to slow down the early gallop from the outside. That's holiday princess and from between horses. It's hot bodie. A gap of three to crooklyn and her greatness at the back. Less than 5 furlongs from the finish, they stack and pack with provocative, who was used hard early, and she's in front nearly through a 23 and three opening quarter. Three wide holiday princess in the middle, it's hot ultimate breeze, rough enough is next and in hand 5th is the favorite hot boaty, then back to crooklyn and still at the back is her greatness. 47 seconds for the opening half mile as they leave the backstretch and move around the four turn, provocative, still in front, holiday princess is a closer second back to third and ultimate breeze hot booty in range and now into fourth while still under light handling. Down at the rail it's rough enough with 5 sixteenths remaining. Provocative bracing for an oncoming hot boaty, circling horses and on the move, a quarter of a mile remains provocative, nursing and narrow lead, hot booty, loop moving up on the outside now, second after three quarters in one 12 and 1 may straighten for the drive. Here's hot bodie taking her shot at provocative hot boaty as powered past on the class drop she's too good. Jason wyez and a hot boaty clearing off to win by as much as they want. Second is provocative third is why holiday princess it's hot bodie in front. Provocative a second holiday princess third ultimate breeze fourth and rough enough. And officially four two 7 three in the third race at Gulfstream park. Listen, one of the old adages and there are a lot of old adages in this game that we love so much is the best hop is the drop, which is a nice way of saying the most important thing is taking a big drop in class and that works out a lot of problems with horses. I don't know if that was all that was needed with number four hot bode, but certainly she was facing much softer competition today than what she saw in her first four starts of her career. Unfortunately for trainer Sean morrow, who trained her in those first four starts, he got her against maiden special weight competition when she was never less she was 15 to one in her debut and then she was 41 to one 52 to one in 44 to one in her subsequent three starts and like I said, she wasn't running bad races. Two fourths two fifths against maiden special weight competition, including some races during that quote unquote championship meet this last winter at Gulfstream park. Now I will say this. The meat at Gulfstream park this last winter was not nearly as good as a typical championship meet at Gulfstream. They introduced the synthetic surface there. They had all sorts of problems with the turf course. And the synthetic track that was supposed to be kind of a well, if they ever need to use it if they need to rain off the turf, then they have a third track to use, became actually a focal point because the turf course was in such bad condition and they did everything possible not to run turf races at Gulfstream this winter and now of course the turf course is shut down and they're trying to renovate it. They're not going to replace it unfortunately. They don't have the time to do it. So they're renovating it. We can only hope that the renovation turned out better than what it was before, but now we get a steady dose of these synthetic track races. And we had more than we wanted probably during the championship meet. Well, hot bodie was running against maiden special weight competition. And like I said, even though not winning, she was running respectable races, moved over to Scott acker's barn, took some time off, dropped in for the 12 5 tag and lo and behold not only should she win. She wins very, very easily. By the way, she actually went up in price. She was 6 to 5 when they were going to the gate. She ended up co favored at two to one with number 7 holiday princess. That is something you don't normally see. Usually it seems like, for those of us who play this game a lot, if you ever bet to win, the price ends up lower than when they were going into the starting gate very rarely does it go the other direction, but you got two to one on hot boaty Jason Wyeth aboard a Jason wye as Scott acker not having phenomenal success thus far at Gulfstream park, but I'm sure this will put smiles on both of their faces as hot bodie gets the job done. It's now official for two 7 three in the third race at Gulfstream. We'll get you those prices in just a few minutes. Want to get over to Saratoga though because they are in the paddock and the riders are about to get up for race number 7 on their card. And this is the featured event of the afternoon. It's the kurland stakes. It's a restricted stake for three year olds that have not won a steak at a mile

"To if he runs in here. He's not a cinch by any stretch of the imagination. He's three for three and synthetic, which means this is a turf raise. It's a little bit different, but his two turf races are perfectly good. A win at Santa Anita and the breeders Cup race. So there's nothing wrong with his turf form. And I think he fits really, really well in here. It's not a shoe in classic state of mind is a horse that has done nice things aside from the race at keenland, where maybe he was just in against a little bit better. Everything else fits really well. The three races at Gulfstream park are solid and put them in the mix in here. The 5, that's right, has speed, which is always dangerous and there's some speed in here, but not a huge, huge amount of speed. The 7 too many twizzlers could get set up with that speed. If there is a steep speed dual, but one timer to me, if he goes Monmouth is a likely winner, I like Larry ravelli's horse in this spot, and if one timer, in fact, opts for this race, 5 to two would be an incredible bargain. I don't see that at all. No, I think he'll win if he runs in this race. And if he doesn't, then too many twizzlers is probably the one to beat. By the way, how can anyone like twizzlers better than red vines? Red vines are so much better than twizzlers. Why it should be never too many red vines. That's what this horse's name should be changed to. I'm with you, Dave. I think one timer is going to win the my French man. And I just think that he's better than this field. It's the easiest explanation I can give. All right, all 12 races in the books. It's time now for the naira bets, best bet. Is the naira beds best bet. Take it

"R private jet he's one of the first to break the line in the center golden one has speed, moving through at the rail, it's noble empire up to the outside stormy pattern. It's a real scrum for early supremacy. The one who took back at the break was capsaicin all as they make their way to the opening quarter mark. That at the rail are private jet tries to hold inside ground without going too quick, golden one will not allow him that opportunity as he races on with it. Three wide stormy pattern tap station it was last, but his knifing through runners, the noble empire, and now the trailer is cozy my boy. Field separated by three lengths and the run 5 furlongs from the finish. Our private jet taking plenty of pace pressure tap stational is on the challenge. Three wide golden one, four wide stormy pattern. Locked in as noble empire from 5th and cozy my boys still very much in range. There's only three lengths from first to last as they round the four turn. Up front, it's now our private jet right back at tap station all three wide stormy pattern cozy my boy. Let go for a run noble empires got some run, but there's no place to go yet. Army patient down inside, dropping back as the long shot golden wand. They run to the top of the stretch with stormy pattern now taking over a clear lead. Cozy my boy moving to him from behind the speed and noble empire at the rail or private jet tries to fight on with taxation all 5 across the course as they straighten for the drive stormy pattern has the lead. Noble empire loose for the drive and closing ground toward the inside. DOM is center and cozy my boy. Stormy pattern with the 16th to run, driven out. Stormy pattern in Miguel Vasquez finding what they need. It's stormy pattern. In front by almost three in the end, holding second was noble empire with cozy my boy third. Well, half right in that race. Didn't think the favorite private jet are private jet was in a good spot at three to 5 turns out he wasn't in a good spot. Unfortunately, tap stational didn't put himself in a very good spot either. They both really faded like cheap wallpaper down the stretch. And it was number 6 stormy pattern getting the job done for the team of bob has junior and Miguel Vasquez 6 two 7 three in the 5th race at Gulfstream park. We're going to take a break when we come back. We'll get you those prices from this race and we'll head out to Belmont park for the final time. There are 6 minutes away from their 9th race. "I think we're just hoping that they continue what we've seen over the last year or so that being said, I think during the clock will be lower than 8 to 5, I think he will be odds on even though he's 8 to 5 on the morning line. I don't think he's better than miles ahead in diamond oops. I would use all three if I'm playing horizontally, but I'm going to put miles ahead on top. I like his current form. He loves it at Gulfstream park. And I think you're going to get that 7 to two. And I think it's a very fair price. Miles ahead for me in the Gulfstream park sprint race 11 tomorrow in hallandale beach. Let's jump over to Oak Lawn park their state race tomorrow, Dave is the $150,000 Dixie bell. Three year old Phillies sprinting 6 furlongs, field of 8 going to post here. Now, I am going to tell you that the morning line favorite is number 5 happy soul. The morning lines at Oakland are not always that accurate. Although this race, I have a hard time figuring out myself who's actually going to be favored in here. There are several very, very fast three year old Phillies who showed a lot of Italian as talent rather as two year olds, who knows which one is going to be ready to fire their big shot as a three year old tomorrow. Yeah, I'm both excited to watch this race and to wager on this race. I think you can go in a lot of directions. I think there are a lot of really talented horses here, and I think the morning line favorite happy soul probably will be the post time favorite if not certainly close. I mean, you look at a horse that's run three times. Debuted at keenland in the Saab, went off as an even money favorite and finished second, and then the last two races at Belmont against small fields only four opponents in each of them won by 11 and three quarter lengths came back and won a stakes race at Belmont by 11 and a half lengths was big favorites in both of those first three 6 today, blinkers go off today. We know how good Wesley ward is with horses like this and happy soul from a fig standpoint fits with these. But that's it. Fits in no way is better in fact that the numbers for these sources are all pretty similar. Wicked halo for Steve asked me to send a daughter of gun runner won a debut at lone star park, came back, didn't get out of the gate particularly well in the debutante at Churchill downs and then won the adirondack at Saratoga convincingly at nearly 5 to one, been off since August, and I think you can expect improvement from wicked halo, this race is just full of speed, the two I mentioned pretty birdie's gonna be out there winging it ding ding wants to have the lead. I was looking for anyone I could find that I think is both good enough and can run late and that led me to icy stare down on the rail for Brad Cox a $425,000 daughter of frosted and Ontario bread who's run two maiden special weights, a third place performance at Churchill downs as a 7 to 5 favorite first time out that came back and graduated at Oakland in December. I thought looked really good in that race as a two to one favorite and icy stare down, I think, will be coming late. Well, you and I are looking for the same thing. Somebody who has the ability to pass other horses, you went with number one icy stare down. I'm going to number 6, come on sweet love. Good second place finish in the re tellier memorial last time out at fairgrounds, didn't make up a lot of ground, but did actually run from a stalking position. I think that's the same kind of trip she's going to get tomorrow in the Dixie belt. Listen, I don't know if happy soul or wicked halo or pretty birdie, if any one of them is able to clear this field. Maybe they're just going to get out and keep on going. But it looks like it's got to be a pay stool in this spot. So like you, Dave, I'm looking for somebody to pass other runners. You're going with the one icy stare down. I'll go to the 6 come on sweet love should be a fun renewal of the Dixie bell race 9 tomorrow at Oak Lawn park. We're going to take our first break. When we come back, we're going to head over to Laurel. "They go a mile and 70 yards in the next one and then a mile and a 16th in the final one for Phillies. Yeah, and I'm looking at the past performances for the Pasco right now and it's for three year olds going 7 furlongs and it's literally it's a field of 7 every one of the horses is getting Lasix for the first time in their career. So listen, these rules are stupid. That's all there is to it. It makes no sense at all that you can run on Lasix and then you can't run on Lasix, but then you can run if you can't run on Lasix as a two year old, but then you can run on lasers three year old. But if you're really good, then you can't run on Lasix, but then if you crappy and you go back, then you can run on Lasix again. And there doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason as far as the rules, as far as that goes. Yeah. And to me, you know, like concert tours, a good example, I was thinking that the other day, is he going to then go he's getting Lasix. He actually ran in late 6 when it's very first start of his career, and then he didn't have Lasix in all this stakes races so far. But he's getting lazy back on for new trainer Brad Cox. And then I'm wondering what happens when he goes if he runs well on that race he's going to some great at stake race Bobby and if that race, you might not be able to run on Lasix in that. So yeah, it's a situation where some of these horses are going to go back and forth like that. Let's just say the Oakland handicap or the razorback for older horses, grated stakes at Oakland, are they allowed to run on Lasix there? Because if they're allowing basics, so they don't get rid. So the 5th season, which is a 150,000, but not graded. They allow Lasix, but then the winner of this race likely will have to try graded competition or may want to try great competition. Go back to it. Go back. It makes it's so ridiculous. Whatever side of the argument you're on, for or against Lasix, it really doesn't matter at this point. But what bothers me is that why is it that well these races this horse can run and these can't. This race at this track, this is a stake race at this track where we do allow it, but then there's other stakes where we don't allow it. And you shake your head and say, is nobody asked these questions of how who came up with this ridiculousness? And I'm not blaming Oakland. This is like everywhere. It seems like. Well, that's not the old. I mean, you know, it's like asking why can't two states that are right next to each other have similar drug rules, you know? It's just like why can't they? No, I'm kidding. Listen, I don't know what to say, I agree with what you're saying. I wish you could answer this question for me. This is another one that's bothering me. Medication I'm not going to get into because I'm on a different side of it than a lot of folks, but I'm very happy to listen to the other side. I think it's inconsistent. That's the thing that bothers me about this. They have a thing. We cover Gulfstream park a lot on our race stage shows. And they've had a it's not even a bad habit. It's just a trend this year of either changing distances on the turf or the synthetic from like, let's say, 5 furlongs to about 5 furlongs, a mile and a half to about a mile and a half. And I understand it's where they're able to place the starting gate. But in this day and age, has nobody ever asked, well, is it less than 5 for a long? Or is it more than 5 for a long? I mean, is it 5 furlongs in 20 feet or is it 20 feet less than 5 for a long? That maybe that makes a difference in some way. But we're happy with the about just saying the distance change from a mile to about a mile. And nobody asked the question. Once again, if you know the answer to this change or if any of our callers have an opinion on this or enlighten me and to why that we're not getting this bit of information, I'd love to know. The number to call in 8 8 8 9 6 6 four 7 7 6 triple 8 9 6 6 four 7 7 6 James. I hope you have an answer to this question, but my guess is you don't. It's the one I had never really pondered. I would have just assumed that it would be a little bit further typically, but you're right. I see about a mile of 16th on turf and other tracks as well. And I just would always assume it was a little bit further than a mile and a 16th. But it could be a little bit less. We're in a day and age right now, James, where they're giving us fractional times down to the hundredth of a second. Nope, do you really need that? Do you need to know the horse went 40 accurate to 6? Sometimes. Yeah, well, that's another thing, especially at Gulfstream park, unless you like a lot of hand time races. But serious, okay, so this one went 47.26. The other one went 47.32. Really, this is a gigantic difference. Okay. But the point is, we can actually get that bit of information out, not one person, you follow the fairgrounds. They specifically have mile in a 16th mile and 70 mile and 40 yard races. You know, not a lot of not a lot of tracks have mile in 70 or mile and 40. Fair grounds is one track that does. So is about a mile at one of these other tracks. Well, is that 20 yards more than a mile? I mean, I don't know what about, you know, it was about like 5 feet here or there, or is that like 15 yards here or there? That may make a difference whether there's a ding dong battle a horse closing late. Well, did he not get up in time because it happened to be about 5 furlongs was actually 15 yards less than 5 for a long? Or did the other horse not hold on because it was 15 yards more than 5 furlongs? I'm amazed that nobody, nobody is asked these questions and the tracks don't care to give us the answer. Yeah. That information to be easily accessible you would think and I've never seen that kind of information posted..

"But maybe one of those races that you can take a stand against some of the horses and try to get a little bit of a price if you're lucky, but it's actually just pointed out the favorites and they look like they could run pretty well. How about the grade three sugar swirl? That's 6 furlongs on the main track. It's for the Phillies and mares. They're three year olds and up. It's race number 8. Tell me more about that one. The big one on the morning line, the number three Franks rocket who I think should be tough. Is that a pretty good four year old campaign, looking at the last race, the dream supreme at Churchill was good performance. Obviously, she doesn't have to face bells the one which is kind of been her rival in this last two races. And so is club car. They finished one two and both of those races at keeneland and Churchill. And I think obviously she should be forwardly placed in here. I don't think it'll be easy for her kind of looking at some others in the field though. The number 5 center isle another one. This one I find intriguing just making that third start since November of 2020 is one both of her races as a four year old, but they've both been on the front end, but I think she's been pretty handy in both of those races. And obviously there was hopefully some talent in her when they purchased her for 1.5 million, not a small amount there, Mike. So there's certainly potential with her and she's had a great year. But if I'm going for a price, you know me, I'm always looking. I thought the number two music city star might be used affiliate to use maybe in the trifecta. To me, your first start at Gulfstream park here, just about a month ago. And then optional claiming event. And I thought she was a really game suck it was her career best effort from a numbers perspective. It was certainly a step up. So it was only also her second dirt race of her career. So she's going to have to face a couple other of those horses exiting that race today. But I think this is a sneaky one and I'm a big fan of Chris Davis and his work. Plenty of good information from Ashley mayu, who is the racing analyst for first racing and of course for first bet. And you can bet the race is at first bet and express bet later today as well. Ashley, how long does it take you? When you first sit down and you start handicapping a card. How long does it take you to go through an entire car? I think what this card might probably closer to three hours or so, maybe a little more depending on the replays that I was pulling up. I think on a 9 race card on a Thursday, I can maybe take a little less time, but it kind of depends on the races because I feel like now with the championship meet, having a lot of races with first time starters and horses that maybe are training at palmettos, I'd like to watch a lot of the workouts. So that takes a little bit more time and effort. It just kind of depends on the field. I mean, looking at some of the other races on the card, I had strong opinions because they were all local horses and I didn't have to maybe dive and look at so many races out of town, which makes it nice. But on these stake states, a little bit more homework is involved. How about from the batting side of things? Are you more of an exacto trifecta win place type of player or do you like the pick three pick fours pick 6s? I think when I maybe started with HR and I was more of an exact try person. I still like those wagers, but I've been more dabbling in the pix fours and pick 5. So don't really touch a pick 6. It's a little too much for me. So I think fours and 5 are what I'm going to pay if I'm paying multi sequences. But I still like the exactness and tries because I feel like on some of these days, if you like a favorite or horses maybe in four to one or less, but you like a long shot for a second. I think there's some value on the exact. You know, that's the Jude felled influence, right? The pick four, he's got you playing pick fours, pick 5s, pick 6s. Yeah, we'll just blame you. That's like the answer there. No, but sometimes I'll play the four and you should have played the 5, but I think that's also the gambling philosophy of show to what it could have. Yeah, yeah, it's the horse players lamented. There's no doubt about it. All right, Ashley, let's move on to the Harlan's holiday. That is a grade three mile and a 16th on the main track. Tell me more about the Harlan's holiday. So the number 6 fearless for Todd Fletcher has had a pretty good year so far for four and the money, one of those have been wins and that was actually back in February and the grade two Gulfstream park mile. I feel like you've needed a bit more in his last two, especially than favored in the chemical special. Then that overnight handicap. So for me, when I look at fearless, he's the type of arrest that he wins. You're not shocked, but I'm not sure he's the same horse that he once was. So I have some reservations about him. So I'm going to go to the horse actually on the rail mighty heart, no surprise. I'm a big fan of the Ontario bread, but I think the story behind them is great, but just to see them as a racehorse, coming into this race off of winning these three for 7 on the year and the most recent win is in the grade two autumn there. And then the runner ups or wins thinking back, I believe you had a stakes when they're in closing weekend in a pretty big performance. So nice to see the second place finisher came back to win. Obviously, it looks to be part of the pace scenario. I don't think he needs to lead twins. I know we showed that last time out, but for me, most of his wins come on the synthetic, but he's actually four for 5 in the money on the dirt too, which had been wins and when you go to his races, you see the one at mountaineer, but I even like to go back to that race at Churchill and the blame when he ended up winning at a mile in a nice, I thought it was a huge performance from him. He sat just off the pace that there and got the job done. So I think he's intriguing. And I think kind of looking at the rider in the saddle, John Velasquez that can't go wrong. I can't go wrong at all with Johnny V, and if anybody can work out a trip from the inside post at a mile in the 16th, at Gulfstream park, it is Johnny V, we'll see if mighty hart can get the victory in there in the gray three. Harlan's holiday. How about race number ten? The grade two Fort Lauderdale. I mentioned earlier that the pollsters are listeners are going with space traveler as the horse to beat in there. Do you agree? I think he's a horse to use. I'm actually probably in the percentage that would use the other button. I know Chad Brown has two in here, and obviously Brennan, all she's forced on the outside has huge shot just making that now that four start over here. I should bake fit if you go back to that race back in 2019. So hasn't been here for that long, but for me, I'm actually going with a horse that these are usually the horses I necessarily don't endorse on top. The horse is zero for three on the year. But I'm going to use the number one dos wall for Barkley tags, who's finished third in all three of his starts this year. To me, I think they've been pretty good performances and now I kind of like this force coming out of the Mylan three 16th race and now going to a mile in 8th..

"So they can get their prime physical activity in that race. How good do you think manor house can be? Well, I can tell you this. He's pretty much as good as most of the horses that have been really good that I had in my hands on. I think he's very talented. How long does it take you to know that when you start working with a horse? Honestly, it's funny. This was the first time I saw him and I looked at him in the stall. I just had a feeling. He just, he has a presence. And he has a class about him. And you really get a feeling. And that was, before I ever even watched and trained on the track. And then as I watched him train on the track, every little thing you asked him to do, he would do and he would do better. So he was kind of like that. That student in school that's working to go to Yale that doesn't do just enough, but goes above and beyond each and every time without being overcooked or overpressured, just does it very easily. Pretty cool stuff talking to Michelle Hemingway here on trainer talk presented by phasic tipton, you heard us talk about manor house who became her first horse that she ever settled here in the United States and it became her first winter shortly after that. When you were walking over with manor house, Michelle and you walked into the paddock, tell me about that moment. What was that like leading him over? I'll be honest with you. I think the thing that was the most disappointing is that Gulfstream park, people make fun of me for this. They give like best turned out awards. So I worked really hard. I wanted him to look beautiful. I had the black bridle on the black and blue brow band. I braided his main myself. I made him look all pretty. And I was like, okay, I want to share my lynch and I'm like, no, you better look at my horse, because he looks good. And I think I was just trying to think about how he looked in the paddock and how he was acting. And, you know, I was hoping that she was going to notice that. So it was funny, you know, I'm a girl, so we think about those things. Yeah, I mean, well, you got to look the part, right? Right. You know, I'm curious to get your thoughts on this. How much different is it leading a horse over that you've worked with for so long and you're the trainer of record. It's going to be your first starter here in the states, as opposed to leading a horse over that is trained by somebody else. You're the assistant trainer or whatever the case might be. But now that you're the one in charge and you've had a hand in getting this horse to the races, how much different was that for you making that walk? To be honest with you, when I was an assistant, I always sort of considered them to be my horses. So I felt the same amount of pressure. If that makes any sense. I think the thing was, it was all the eyes that were on me and all the questions that I was getting, oh, wow, why now? How did you get here? What is it about this horse? You know, as opposed to it wasn't really a thought process of the horse being any different or the result being any different. It was more of the questions that were coming from people of like, why did you decide to do it with this horse? Where did this come from, you know? Yeah, so why did you decide to do it with this horse? You know, I think mostly because Nick luso offered me the opportunity. If it wasn't for the opportunity that Nick offered me and bringing me to be part of thorough stock and this great organization, I think I probably just would have been okay. You know, posting along and being an assistant or doing this or doing that, but, you know, Nick is really supportive of me and my career and we enjoy looking at horses together. I think we have a really huge respect for one another about the way we handle horses and the way we look at horses and when I told them, I said, you know, not for nothing. I do have my trainer's license, and he made the decision to support me and get me started. Tell me more about thorough stock in the facilities and the work that you guys do there. So.

"Shown some affinity than That may be enough to get people plus the price to try the seven magic election owners to me. That's also very interesting. Is the first off. The claim that the two i'm listening Claudio gonzalez very capable trainer claimed his horse last time off from kelley brain choice. Quite frankly Kind of did a pop and stop kind of race last time out but certainly has run back to races fast enough to be his group south if he can get some improvement to get this horse to run back to the speed figures that he did that Or she did. At gulfstream park might be an interesting play and i'm looking at figs and diamond play To some extent really lays over this field and looks very very tough. They're going a mile in sixteenth on the grass state bred group with optional Restrictions i tell you what seventy one thousand dollar purse for. These animals is pretty sweet. Yeah it is the two now you mentioned model behavior right Really did not mention about moving in the right direction. I'll tell you that okay. I is has made his got to improve. What more time Let's take postino. Zainal is what now seven two. That's not going to help too. Many of these players It yeah magic election ash. Ashley's hope Again for his four four seven to two now on ashley's hope that's not going to get it done it it. Obviously you know if you're if you're fifteen dollars or more you you're you're trying the twenty to one shot sean. You're trying model behavior. There are worse thirty. Eight to one shots. That i've seen in in racing history to be honest that horses has improved. Three straits with three straight starts right. This horse was sixty one to one last time. It only got beat by four lanes in a similar condition. So you know if the horse as you say moves forward one more step. What the hey it needs to make up about four lengths plus On the on the favorites in here You know using using the for instance. Third graph ran thirteen You got favorites in here. That are running nine so You know a point is a length and as is gonna after going to have to. You know. Run a career-best. Frankly but at least you got a horse. It's moving in the right direction if you're just trying to latch onto something anything right now. No there's no question that's a that's a good angle. "One more horse. I want to ask you about. Is the number one mischievous alex. I mean he was the favourite coming into the vanderbilt. I couldn't give him an excuse for that race. I know he's got back races. That make a major player here and arguably justice fast as the o. I i just didn't know what to do with them. Yeah i've never been a fan of his his big win. This year in the carter was kinda overrated honestly even at gulfstream park race where he kind of jumped back on the map this year in its first stage. Try and i just never thought the figures match visuals that we see from him in the last two times. He's really disappointed so he's definitely not for me. Now i will say all of these four year olds and older horses running in the forego. Better be happy that they changed the conditions of the forego to not allow year to enter. Because the next we're gonna talk about the great one eight allen jerkins going. The same distance for the three year olds has perhaps drawn to of the best horses and perhaps best one turn horses. I should say in the country. Those being jackie's warrior and life is good now. There are far fewer questions about jackie's warrior. And i think he has to be considered strictly the horse to be in this race just based on how good he is right now. How good he was last time in amsterdam. Yeah it's they figured out pretty quick. This was not a to turn worse than he's just been lights out around one turn. So this is a recent mugs looking forward to on the day. It's probably not the best bedding race but anytime you have. Two horses come in particularly three year olds with one. Thirty speed fakers That's one i wanna see for sure. i do does made me laugh you said about the Vanderbilt being at the same and the forego. I'm not the vanderbilt belt being the same distance. You really think trainers are that smart that they put three euros in there instead of.

"Having not won the kentucky derby lost the belmont stakes had this victory taken away from him and mandolin. Well he's a two-time grade one winner but both of them will eventually be by disqualification. So it's really hard to know. Who's the divisional leader at this point. I guess it essential quality because he's kind of been the steady one and he's won the belmont stakes coming off that victory. But we'll see what we get from him up at saratoga. When they run the jim dandy travers a little bit later in the year. So i think it's a really exciting crop of three year olds. I just wish that this race had been run cleanly. Because i think we really would have had a memorable haskell our hands and it's kind of unfortunate that it ended in that Ugly incident that we did see on saturday at monmouth park. The other grade one on saturday mom park was the united nations on the turf. Run right before the haskell and the winner of this race has become one of my favorite horses currently intriguing that's tribhuvan. It's just really cool that they've decided to completely turn around this horses running style and it's just a woken the kind of performances that we didn't really know he was capable of prior to this. I mean he had run well when they first got him in this country and that debut at gulfstream park but obviously it had some issues and when he returned this year is a new gelding. They of pegged them as maybe being a rabbit for some more heralded stablemates. I think he was the rabbit for rock emperor when he made that return off in the fort marcy and he just loved being on the lead he looked so happy out there and he really kicked for home impressively and kind of confirmed that he's a better horse than his connections. It may be given him credit for prior to that. I mean he's almost. Been unstoppable since then the only horse that's defeated him in these three starts. The season was to back when domestic spending. Got the better of in the manhattan and losing to domestic spending. That's no disgrace to say the least because he's really developed into the best american tur- force in the country right now and tribhuvan set such an enterprising pace in that manhattan. He did well to hold on for a second. You know coming into this united nations. It appeared that there was quite a bit of speed on paper. But i was kind of perplexed watching the race because everybody just sorta deferred to tribhuvan flopping and pratt clearly the intention of being aggressive from the outside post position. But i'm not sure by some of the other horses that had speed like winters back in epic bromance were not written aggressively. They just seem to almost concede the race to tribhuvan and that was no positive development for low. He because he was the other favored in this race and he was towards the back of the pack throughout there was a bit of an incident on the far turn with him that probably prevented him from achieving his best result. But i don't think arklow ever going to get to trip of and because he just didn't get the kind of pace scenario that he needed in this united nations and you know looking at the time for. Us pace figure line for this race. Actually none of the fractions are color..

The Next Generation

"Recently. The washington post published an article about how young adults twenty-somethings called generation z. Are creating a real shift in how viewers connect with sports. And how many connect with sports if you think of the traditional ways of consuming sports you root for a team you watch and attend their games. You might be completely disconnecting from generation z. As an example the post cites. Espn's internal data that says that the percentage of twelve to seventeen year old stick and ball fans who call themselves. Avid fans has dropped from forty two percent ten years ago to thirty four percent today. What if i was to tell you that young people care more about what an athlete binge watches on net flicks. Then what he or she thinks about the next opponent or that viewers might not care about the athletes next opponent at all only that the athlete is a culturally significant. Figure if that sounds ridiculous to you then you might not understand this new generation of consumers. But if you're a decision maker stewarding the future of this sport you'd better learn to understand these jen's ears and give them what they want or you won't have a sport left to oversee now. The washington post article talked about gen z as relates to stick and ball sports. But we're going to do is spend this time talking about how horse racing relates to generation z. And what leaders in this sport can slash should do in order to reach them to do that. We have invited guests from a number of different viewpoints. I we have a racing executive looking to market his product. He is gregory. Vincent who is the vice president of marketing at gulfstream park. Next we have to young people with us. One became so hooked on this sport that he's now going through the race track industry program at the university of arizona. He is michael sand duly and full disclosure. His father matt has been a longtime espn event producer. Our third guest is madison. Bregman the founder and ceo of girls spelled with a z. At the end she consults with clients trying to reach young people. Young girls in particular. According to her linked in page she's worked with a number of clients including the nfl and she's the perfect person for this discussion because she can self reflect if you will on trends involving generation z. So welcome to all three of you. Let's start with mattie when it comes to sports in general how would you describe the differences between what appeals to gen z irs versus older generations. What degen's ears care about. Yeah i think the big thing is that where older generations would sit down and watch an entire football baseball basketball games. This generation is so much more driven by watching clips or highlights. The way that we're consuming it with that. Being said is different too because we're not watching it on tv watching it on mobile devices on different platforms like twitch and and snapchat instagram. And really the way that we're interacting with teams and players as different as well where older generations once again. We're fans of specific teams because you grew up in that city or whatever have some kind of connection to it and this generation more fan of individual players can so for example. If i'm a huge fan of baker mayfield. I may not necessarily love the cleveland browns. But i liked baker and would wear a skirt near water. Whoever it may be michael san duly. You've heard what she just said about your generation. This is your generation. How does that jibe with your thinking as you were being attracted to horse racing. Well horse racing is the number one sport in my heart. But i but i'm a fan of all sports so i completely agree with matt in the sense that our generation likes players rather than teams a lot of my friends like lebron or curry and so on in horse racing. You can kind of do that. You pick your hero for the year for lack of our term. Unfortunately nowadays everybody gets sent to orderly and this year you've built a brand of this year you could arguably make the case for to the law in tis. The law garnered a lot of fan interest because he came from a grassroots fail. I think it was the saratoga. Select that nolan in toga. Bottom out of and he grew into this the big story line. And that's what everybody likes. Everybody likes a big story. That's what attracts fans.

Weekend Stakes Preview Presented by NYRA Bets

"The victory ride kicks off the stakes action here at Belmont Park tomorrow afternoon grade three early in the caught has just the feel of five phillies. GOING TO GO Six and a half furlongs as for the three year old's warning line favors one francs. Rock Cat Hall of Famer Bill Will Give Fellow Hall of Famer John Velazquez a leg up and this phillies done very little wrong on her career. She's three for seven. With four second-place finishes ran second in a couple of graded stakes, including the grade one spin away up at Saratoga last year last seen winning a third level allowance optional claimer. She uses stakes. Winner took the any limit kick off three year old season three starts back. and. Probably the only reason that this race isn't later in the card is that it's a five Horsfield and Franks? Rakhat is three to five on the morning line, and she may be the the loan speed in race, so she's going to be tough to beat at three to five, but that's a pretty short price, considering there some pretty good up and coming phillies near now I think number four center. I'll I'm going to give her another shot for. For Chad Brown and Joel Rosario Sheila Great Getting Her Maiden Win Gulfstream Park, when bet down to three to five at the end of March then came back in a tough allowance race at Churchill downs where she was really over bet, she was three to five that day against another very impressive maiden winner of this one for Steve Asmussen in casual casual ran a great race that day center I'll had all sorts of problems. She didn't break that well. She had trouble during the race, and she was just really never in at any point. I think it's a racy can kind of draw a line through? If she runs closer to the way she did and her debut. I think she's the one that could give Franks rock cat. The biggest problem Franks rocket will probably get the lead I would think Rosario would have center I'll sitting justin behind her and seeing if they can outgun into the line going six and a half furlongs. With you I'm going to take a shot with center. Rile planner. If? When I plan! Early took five tomorrow I will use both Franks rocket and center, but I'll tell you what I think. You can make a case also for up in smoke was undefeated and sprints. She's four five and a career. Lone blemish came when George Weaver tries to stretch her out Hollywood wildcat. Go at Gulfstream Park. She's raced exclusively of Gulfstream, in fact, steady diet once. Once a month February march April may June now. She gets a race in July. Here over Big Sandy, she wanted the game face overboard last time out for weaver Rod Ortiz Junior. Who wrote her in her debut against fellow Florida breads down at Gulfstream Park's in the climb back aboard for the first time. Since that day looks, you'll need a little help up front if Franks, rockets able to set an easy pace I. She's going to be very very tough. I think Senator I'll be the first one to come calling. Those are the two up in smoke. If you're looking to three deep, I don't think you need to center for Bobby and I race number three goes as the great three six and a half for a long victory ride go to the end of the card. Eleven race card like I said earlier, and the final four races make up an all stakes pick four, and it starts in reasoning with the greed three poker. Flat Mile on the turf for many years. This was the fourth of July staple. On the naira calendar here it is now as part of a super five stakes card. In, the poker though. On the widener, so they come out of that shoot. On the clubhouse turn we get a field of eight entered for the turf as a main track. Only it's all relevant with the way. The weather's been here. I would imagine you know there's supposed to be some rain. We're recording the show Friday afternoon supposed to be some rains rather day on Friday and into the evening. I can't imagine it enough to take this off the turf, so let's say it will be a field of eight.

Post Time: Fountain of Youth is leap day for Derby hopefuls

"Happy Fountain of Youth Day. Thank you thank you starting early today for so eleven. Thirty fourteen racist today so should be a good one. I don't know if people think chancellor card yet but I mean it's just stacked start to finish so we're we're gearing up for a day. How's the weather down there today? Good conditions it's great It was very breezy and on the chilly side yesterday. Obviously not Florida are rolling their eyes at US saying that it's cool but it feels different when it gets colder down in Florida will definitely say that. But it's gorgeous. Today it's going to be low. Seventies son is out a little bit less windy than yesterday as well. Let's start with the Fountain of Youth. That will be the final of the fourteen races on this Saturday program. Twelve horses are entered. There was some conversation about chance it potentially coming out because of the outside post position As of just a little bit ago I think he is still in so some decisions yet to be made but twelve horses set to go. How did you see this one? Yeah he is still and he does have until forty five minutes before the race as is the protocol for Great. It's so he's got some time There was one scratch just of the number two horse in there but This is a tough race chance. It's been really impressive. And Ultra talented and and obviously Fun Horse to watch down here but I did go with the Horse. That actually finished second to him in the Home Watch. Oh man and that is as you know on. Tv For Kelly Brian. I just thought that this course who I had not actually seen him physically before leading into that last race and he really showed me. Both in the flesh needs performance that he was the type that could handle the stroud and distance effectively. I think he's drawn well and he's going to be really tough. Obviously done this moment. It's going to take a lot of attention. Chance it as well and those are some good horses but I'm GonNa land on as seen on TV seen on. Tv Ninety two on the morning line has been extremely consistent. You mentioned the forest arts. Two wins two seconds and that runner up in the mutual macho man last time to to under pokka. Lopez here this afternoon. I'd like to spend more time talking with you about some of the other contenders but in the interest of time here this morning. Let's move on to the race. For the three year old girls we don't want to neglect the phillies The Dow is race number ten one mile on the main track. It will go right around that four o'clock eastern time. Yeah this is an exciting race. You've got tunnel shape city outside Saffy. Joseph's junior has obviously really burst onto the scene this year with the likes of math wizard and then of course potential Derby contender and Chan said and he's also got affiliate that Again is undefeated and turned out to be the first graded stakes winner for Tony. Lists and sire and she even though she's been so impressive it does kind of feel like even in this race that she still has a little something to prove. It'll be interesting I think that the race really revolves around the todd. Pletcher Philly in spices nice. I mean she was just a monster in her debut and I spoke to todd yesterday and he said that she was the phillies but they obviously really had high hopes for given the purchase price and her breathing out of the Dorsey and she not only showed up in her debut. But I watch pretty much all of her recent workouts at Palm Beach downs and I spoke to todd about this too and that she's been training for the most part with some of the really highly touted colts and his part including the point. Who was really well tipped out market analysis. Just some very talented horses. That have won first time out. And she's been training with the colts. A Lotta Sense. Kinda dwarfs inside too. She's a very very big Philly but she has a nice way of moving and they taught it said that was a way of them kind of testing. Just how good is she? And she's really responded to retest. Yeah that I start. She dominated her maiden race on January twelve. She won by twelve ran away from the field. That probably could have been more if they wanted it to be. That was at the same one mile distances. Today's Dimona del Was there a obviously? She was the favourite that day ACACIA but was a palpable buzz around spices. Nice when she walked into the paddock that day there was and you know she would not necessarily be the type of horse that I would pick out in a lineup Just face off of you know looks for a Horse. That would win first. Came out like I said. She's very big she by curl and She has kind of a long stride along next to her and I thought that she was going to win. But I was almost wondering puts. You need a race which you need to turn. And she's just so talented that she was almost kind of able to overcome. Maybe not looking like the precocious sharp I out type of winter so I thought that was really interesting as well. And and obviously this is going to be a tougher spot going right into graded stakes company but think that she is really one of the box. Office potential superstars on the undercard today. And I'm excited to see her. I also use underneath though in Second. I use five reluctant bride. Who I think is good and I like her switching to stay. She's got dirt pedigree and I spoke to Patrick the cone the other day and he said he tries a lot of his horses that he thinks are good. On the turf I F. A. Indian and sold allante being perfect examples and He says he thinks it's an easier trip. And then you switch them to dirt and that just might be where they're most comfortable and that's what he's doing with this one today who just closed so impressively in her first race. And I think that she's got some ability to talking with ACACIA. Courtney from Gulfstream Park here on the Horse Racing Radio Network Again Fountain of Youth Day Fourteen races. We have time to look at one more case you have about a minute or so. Just over that for we have to get to the next segment The Gulfstream Park Mile is race number. Twelve another big field. Eleven horses entered one mile on the main track. And this is a very interesting race gear. Mclaughlin had to including Hi Collin true. Kimber I really like hike. Second also layoff. I think he's GonNa be a big improvement for him today. And I think that it's kind of always flies under the radar is how Creek Hustle. He's actually my top picks some paddock school the other day for Vicki Foley. I think he's actually going seven furlongs. One Turn My. Oh which is what he gets today. just a side note. It's the treat to see Pegasus World Cup runner up MR freeze back. And he'll turn back and distance as well for for Dale Romans who could potentially have a big day. Yeah it could be a huge day for Dale and ACACIA. Has a very busy day ahead of her. So we'll let her go. Acacias squeezed me in this morning. I appreciate you taking a few minutes. Go enjoy the rest of the day and we'll talk soon. Thanks for being here all right. Thanks guys take care. She's the best Acacia Courtney. Mark Casse Interview - January 18, 2020

"When you talk about the three year olds this weekend all eyes on the grade three Lecomte stakes at the fairgrounds and mark? CASSIE is going to be a very very busy man. He has horses entered there there. He has horses entered at Gulfstream Park. And as you might expect he's prominent in so many major stakes races mark with me now here on the horse racing radio network mark appreciate the visit in the time my friend thank you. Thanks for having me now. It just got to win a few. Yeah now you just got to get things rolling. I mean you're pretty. Hey good at that though sometimes so far this year but it's really it's early what's okay so for a trainer when you go through a little stretch like this. You said it's slow. You know things will pick up eventually. But what do you. How do you keep the faith? How do you keep the same approach? Approach everything well. You just know that it's worked and so You know you just you just keep doing the same thing you've always it's done So much of it is is just sometimes you go through cycles and things work right sometimes. I can look at it condition. Asian book a lot of times. And tell you whether we're going to how we're going to do. Sometimes you know you have races that fit your horses better than others and But by the you know you just continue David Care on. I've talked about this many times and that is you just keep doing doing What you've been doing we We won five breeders cups and two classics. And so I think we we I think we we. We know what we're doing so we just keep doing the same thing. Yeah more than twenty eight hundred victories in North America for trainer Mark. CASSIE so. Yeah I think you know what you're doing it hard mark not to start like tweaking. Funny Mike though I will tell you. This is many racist as we went all those. When you start? Start when you do go through a little spell where you're not winning as much as you'd like you know you're like he's still like oh I want to win. It never changes. It doesn't matter whether for me whether it's a five thousand dollar claiming race or five hundred thousand dollars claiming race and I I don't like losing nobody does You know so There you go. Well hopefully things start picking up with the Lecomte Lecomte stakes later today and all the stakes races at Gulfstream tubes. You're well represented there but let's let's focus on the three year olds in the lacob and this is a race that you want for the first time. Last last year with war of will we know it worked out okay for him he went out and won the preakness later in the season. And some people will say maybe he should have won the Kentucky Derby. But that's neither here nor there here at this point So tell me about the two horses you have this year. You have Lynn's map and then you have enforceable and I would say Lens Map. Probably the more highly regarded at least in terms of the the morning line. Well well we just scratched him. Oh okay well there you go. And and that was kind of the plan when he drew the fourteen hall. It's nearly nearly impossible to win anywhere from the fourteen whole But New Orleans is pretty tough to win from the fourteen hole So when that happened when he drew outside their yesterday we Entered him in the Smarty Jones. And he's going to run next Friday at Oakland in the Smarty Jones. That works out okay. It doesn't cost you a whole lot of time right. No no not at all and The the Smarty Jones I think he's number eight of nine much much more favorable Post and Yeah he's a very nice horse he's he's done done well so far We're excited to have him and you know now he. He's he's taken one step. He took another step and now the big except the big step that says. Can you run with the better. Three year olds in North America and We're going to have to wait a week to find out. Is there something mark that you look for for in your newly turn. Three year olds at this point in the season that you say okay they they have that it factor they have what it takes to be a factor moving down the road to the Kentucky Derby. Oh yeah I I mean I think you can look at horses and say you know can again this one go forward a lot of times. It's pedigree a lot of times. It's the and brains So it takes a lot it takes a lot and and more than anything it takes a while back but Definitely by this. It's time you know we're looking at is that we think could You know go on I would say that A year ago today I still had big question backs questions about Sir Winston I wasn't sure how good he was as yet and But WAR WILL I. I was very confident at this time. Last year. I think I can remember doing an interview review Down for Thinks it's name right now but down in New Orleans and he he said What do you think of your chances today? And I said I'd be surprised if he gets beat. And I don't say that very often but I had just the utmost confidence of war in war will well We're not we're not in the same. You know we are not on the same same page right now as we were a year ago so we have enforceable end. Today who enforceable is one of the horses he's gotTa humongous pedigree pool brother Demo Heynen also half brother another really good horse. Can't can't escape me right now. But he's a horse. We liked a lot but he is just been extremely slow to come around His last race was much better than it looks on paper and in David's extremely happy with the way he's trained up to this race so You know we're expecting big things out out of in today I if we don't see him today then he's just not I don't think he's good enough so We're we're looking for big things out of him today. Are there a couple of other three year olds in the Cassie Barn. That people should keep an eye on as we moved down this route short on my three year old colts right now. Um and one that I would tell you that we work game this morning. I'm in Miami today and we work in this morning we bought or recently broke his maiden name's untitled Broke his maiden at cough stream ran a ninety eight buyer One by ten. I'm excited about at him pretty soon this morning out of the gate and I just like so many things about him. He's a big tall lanky cold with a great mind and and Just lucky you know that we were able to get him in and now we need. We need to have some luck with him. He's going to Swail We have two you other cults that are in running allowance races today Strike Appeal and race driver. They're running that fairgrounds right now I would call them the B. Team Hopefully plea. After today we could call on them they will say earlier. You mentioned the name of the Belmont winner from last year Sir Winston. I saw that he had a breeze was yesterday at Acworth. Desert Right which day before the day before a guy for yeah? What's what's going on with him extremely well? We were very happy with the The only issue he pulled the shoe off during the work and then he stepped on it and He's been a little tender on and we're currently Soaking his foot and and insane I would say fifty fifty. I sent him up to run him in Chazal I think it's called and Next weekend right now I'd say we're fifty fifty two run. We're GONNA see. See Our foot response to that and If not we'll wait for the next one. My long term explains for him is is trying to get him to do by which I'm happy. He grew up a lot during his time off. He's a big handsome horse now. And and Training well so expect big things out of in We'll see what happens here with his foot. Just been on the phone with the Cheney Baig Egg who is my main assistant there knows no Sir Winston probably better in any way and he helped preparing for the Belmont and So we're we're seeing. He's he's soaking his foot as we speak what's going on with the preakness winner. IS HE GONNA race in two thousand twenty. Yes eastern well. He watched him train Yesterday morning before I drove down to Miami scrape. He's grown up. Some right now are feeling Is that. He's a great one winner on the dirt. We're going to try to make him a grade. One winner this year on the grass so that that's where we'll be focusing Probably the maybe around March or April April.

Who's the Champ?

"Bobby? A halt of the New York hot list is our first guest of two thousand twenty here on the gate now. The horse that won the Breeders Cup dirt bile beating Omaha beach is spun to run and he will be facing Omaha beach again in the Pegasus World Cup. The first major race of two thousand thousand twenty but maximum security will not be there and code of honor will not be there. Maximum security is waiting for Saudi Arabia. The world's richest race the Saudi Cup in February. It's very tempting to make this a political discussion. I'll only do it to the extent of saying with what's going on in the Middle East right now. How do you think that is going to impact whether trainers bring their horses over for the Saudi Cup and or the Dubai World Cup in March or maybe they take a look at that Pegasus again and say maybe we ought to just stay here that that's a very hard question to answer? Ah It's hard to understand how people feel I will say this. I am confident in saying that the people especially in Dubai. We're ruler of the country behind that I think they're going to bend over backwards to provide security and take care of the park I I would hope the same thing's going to happen in Saudi Arabia race and then just not become a outer tech or anyone but that is a question question that you just can't answer. I think it's very hard. It's an individual decision to a Lotta funny. I understand when people go play a lot of people who have no dog in the adviser to come up with answers of morally questions. And what they're gonNA do when not to you. Gary West was all set to run his voice Independence when it was nine nine billion dollar I. He was happy to take the fourbillion winter. Share the person. Just go to the Middle East but when you cut the first out of nowhere to three billion winter I'll get one point five billion something like that and you have just wants to you know once in a lifetime could easily win ten million dollars and probably turn around that month and win a twelve million dollar right I. It's hard because this is an expensive sport and as much as these people arrested of of money that goes into this so You understand it as of now. I haven't heard anyone saying they're going to change their mind about going. I'm sure people are a little bit nervous but I mean let's be frank. I think anytime you over. There is probably reason to be nervous. So it's just an individual decision and I wouldn't chastize anyone. Whatever they they decide because it feels like them? That's their call. It's not it. I make my own decision on my life. You make your own decision on your own life and I think that's the way it goes. Oh by the way. I think you're under selling the Saudi Cup. I believe the purses twenty million dollars. Well it's ten million the whip you get ten billion but it's it's one that that that's what I'm saying he gary West is looking at it. I will get sent. Don't get out of the home and billion dollars if I say in that term so you can when you look at it now. You basically have to win the Pakistan that in line with at one point I for share of the first compares to the ten million that he will win. Take home for winning the Saudi Cup where he will be the favorite and a one term mounting great definitely. I Dunno betting Saudi Arabia. But I know American pools. He's GonNa behavior and you running for stabbing tons of money. That's a pretty compelling nonetheless in the Pegasus World Cup you do have. Some horses is with some credentials including higher power. The Pacific Classic winner. We mentioned Omaha Beach. roadster for Bob Baffert is aiming toward the Pegasus. And you will be there. How do you see this first? Major race of the year shaping up that force right now in training maximum very doubt after that case to be made then Omaha Aubenas bunch of wrong especially violent eight might be the second and third bout with McKinsey right there with them so when you get fun to run and Omaha Beach I think he got a pretty darn good race. I mean it's interesting possibilities. Are the horses doing nominated at the box He's done. I'm very well. This is of course. A lot of people east might have remembered with Chad Brown Barrasso. And you know he was good you know. He got coming up. In the minor spot that West to John Adler Verona's ray thing all of a sudden. He's winning all these steaks and eat it. You can't east to Churchill even lost or any blocks. We'll see if he's going to be the ones that they decided to send into the race. It'd be a good one back wizar- people know this story. That fifteen thousand dollars who ran against maximum security and the world's most famous Amos. Sixteen Thousand Dollars Eight lamer and it'll be in there. I think it'll be a big competitive fourth. It doesn't I think have the superstar. One runner arrogate powerpoint chrome Omaha beaches in that category But it's interesting. It's good to get back into talking about racing and Bobby Hall. Nobody better to do it with so. Thank you so much barry. Thank you always chat that with you so when we come back here on the gate. The site of the world's first million dollar horse race is short on dollars and short on time time to secure them. Welcome back to win the gate in July of two two thousand. Nearly twenty years ago Churchill. Downs home of the Kentucky Derby purchased Arlington Park in Chicago for nearly seventy one million dollars. Arlington's owner Dick Duchossois had closed the track in one thousand nine hundred ninety eight and nine hundred ninety nine saying that he could not compete with other gambling businesses. The opened again in May may of two thousand presumably with the knowledge that a sale was coming at the time. Churchill was in something of an arms race against the stronach group. When it came to buying up tracts the idea was to create networks of tracks for simulcasting and cross promotion of races and Events in nineteen ninety nine Churchill bought calder race course in Miami and Hollywood Park in California and then bought fairgrounds in New Orleans in two thousand and four? This was meant to counter the STRANA group which began its buying spree in nineteen ninety eight with Santa Anita then they added Gulfstream Park in Florida. Both major Maryland tracks Laurel and PIMLICO as well as golden gate fields and Portland Meadows and Oregon stronach versus Churchill. Wasn't exactly the Cold War. But the battle lines had been drawn it it seemed that Churchill was the first to blink Churchill dumped Hollywood park like a hot potato in two thousand five just six years after buying it. Churchill said at the time that California has forsaken racing and its needs reports came from fairgrounds in two thousand thirteen that the turf course was too dangerous juris to race and that the track had been poorly maintained ever since the churchill purchase at the same time Churchill was trying any maneuvering possible to get out of its obligation obligation to operate racing at calder. Eventually the STRANA coned Gulfstream Park worked out a lease agreement to run the calder meet in October and November this year. Two Thousand Twenty is the final year of Churchill's obligation to lease the meat after which it may convert the track into a shipping logistics center. Or something like that.

Belinda Alleges Frank’s `Fanciful Schemes’ Eroded Stronach Family Empire

"As the story goes frank stronach arrived in Canada from his native Austria in Nineteen fifty four with two hundred hundred dollars in his pocket and the hope of opening a tool and die shop that shop eventually became the auto parts company MAGNA international which made Strana on a billionaire frank then got involved with thoroughbred racing owning both racehorses and eventually race tracks today the Strana group the spinoff off company for many of the Families Racetrack Operations Owns Gulfstream Park in Florida both tracks in Maryland Loral and Pimlico home of the preakness and of course source the great race place Santa Anita among others over the years. Some of Frank stronach's race track plans heavy listed quizzical looks with one example being the thirty million dollar price tag for the Pegasus statue outside of Gulfstream his daughter Belinda though has done more than look quizzically. Belinda is now the chairman and President of the stronach group and she is suing her father for over five hundred million dollars. She claims claimed that francs pet projects as she calls them have lost the company huge sums of money frank has counter-sued saying that Belinda and a former business partner appropriated family funds for their personal benefit good grief. What will this family feud mean for the Strana Group Group and by extension for the entire thoroughbred industry here in the United States since T S G controls so many influential tracks to people who were quite familiar with the business dealings of the strategic group are writers Joe Connor and Barbara Sector of the financial post a Canadian based publication and we welcome Miss Scheckter and Mr O'connor here to win the gate. Let's start with Mr O'connor. Each side accuses the other of financial malfeasance. What facts do we know through all of this bluster. Well what we do know is what the suit alleges and what I'm frank is accusing blend end of is misappropriating funds and essentially locking him out of the company that his money built and what Glenda is same is. That's not the case and in her countersuit. She's saying well you know. The Truth is here is my dad and I'm quoting is is she's called them idiosyncratic idiosyncratic and often unprofitable side ventures meaning that she believes that her father has a frittered away money on then any projects such as an organic beef farm in California and on a fancy bike electric bike and on other things and that has put the company in jeopardy and that in order to see rescue the company's fortunes. She has to keep her father at arm's length from it. It's a giant. He said see she said as long as that's floating out there and working its way through the court system. It's going to mean some uncertainty. I think the the thing that is sure is that there's going to be continued uncertainty until this gets resolved so so. Michelle after financial controversy has followed the strongbox for quite a while even going back to two thousand ten when they were paid basically to leave magna and it seemed like a little unusual to say the least I mean what do things like this say about the nature of their business dealings things in their character especially as relates to their employees. Well I mean it was very unusual and it was quite controversial in Canada just because because of the the quantum the amount of money that they paid to collapse this dual share structure which gave the Straw nics way more votes per share than other shareholders. I mean it was a common structure in Canada and it's even sort of picking up steam right now in the US and a little bit back in Canada because it allows sort of families as an entrepreneurs to retain control but in the case of Magna and at the time it was an unpopular structure and companies were being pressured to drop it it and stronach agreed to collapse it and leave the company but he demanded what summit called a king's ransom to do so and he was not willing to bend on that it ended up going for Securities Commission and also through the courts with some of the large institutional shareholders like pensions demanding that you know that he takes less money that it was far too much money but he was unyielding and he walked away with exactly what he negotiated with the company who cares what at the institutional shareholders who've been there for varying amounts of time want so it was the same when he was running the company he did things his way he took you know large paychecks and defended them telling people that maybe he even deserved more than he was taking so certainly as strong willed and you know willing to keep pushing his way and getting it so that certainly is the type of personality. We're talking about here. It's a it's not a shrinking violet on either of their counts. What about the potential cultural difference at work here since you have the self made father and daughter who was born into wealth. I think that's a huge the dividing line you see frank who was a child in wartime. Austria who comes to Canada panelists our near to it and has the Moxie to build a company that goes through the roof in terms of its value he built this thing with his hands and I met with them for lunch going going back into the spring and what he said at the time and he wasn't GonNa go deep into the weeds of the actual legal case he wasn't gonNA roll mud necessarily Elliot his daughter but what he did say quite clearly and what was evident in our conversation was that he truly believed that he'd built this. This was whose baby as it were and that his children his daughter and son and their children should be entitled to some of that well but in the form of of a and inheritance in the form of what I think the figure he quoted to me was like I will give my children one hundred million dollars each and they can go on build their own legacy. I can see whereas frank sees. The He sees the race tracks. TST owns he sees the empire as I've been been built by his his money and he believes that he should have the keys to the empire and be able to drive you in whatever direction he
