What's called the derelict bombs they referred to them. And my father knew some of these men. Because he had previously been seaman with him. And he said to me, there by the grace of God go you Curtis, at any moment, this could happen to any one of us. I need to have conversation with these men. And I understood that that early age you had to be caring and compassionate. And so that's what I've done for 42 years as leader of the guardian angel. It's not just in New York City, but around the

"Well. There are five boroughs and as approximately close to nine million people 5% live on the island, and it truly is an island because politically it is so different than the rest of the city. It is a Red island. It is a Republican island. It is Staten Island. It is the reason market. I'm running for mayor of the city of New York because against their own party leadership. They nominated me to be the mayoral candidate. And now my battle is in the other four boroughs, which many of your listeners originally what from Brooklyn and Queens, the Bronx and Manhattan. And they're all blue. I mean, we're talking an 8 to 1 registration rate of Democrats to Republicans and those Republicans who used to be on the rolls. Either they passed away and there in heaven or maybe someone straight to hell without and especially shoot, or they fled the Florida North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Virginia, Texas, Tennessee. And the exodus continues because it's an unlivable city. No quality of life. There's no zero tolerance towards crime. They vilified Rudy Giuliani, who saved us in 1993. And they view what he did as having been offensive to people of color. And yet you look now Mark you look at the horrific number of shootings, stabbings killings. The attacks of emotionally disturbed persons. You need mental health care in their medicine, and it's almost all by people of color against people of color. You mean to tell me it's a better city in this in this case? In the city that Rudy Giuliani inherited when there were 2000 murders a year 5000 most unsolved shootings and we went from being the crime capital, the murder capital to the safest big city in America. In the eight years of the Giuliani administration, and he attributes a lot of that to the help that I gave him with The Guardian Angels in our patrol in the roughest, toughest in its city neighborhoods of this city and on the

"Update, this is coming out of New York. Um, the Democrat who is running for mayor of New York. Interesting guy's name is Eric Adams. Don't know if you know a whole lot about him. Um, he told reporters Quote. I am the face of the new Democratic Party. He's leading in the polling there right now. Former police officer Uh he was the president of the New York City borough of Brooklyn and former captain in the New York City Police Department. And in the closing weeks of the mayoral campaign, the primary at least he said that curbing the increase of crime and gun violence in the city would be his top priority. And he and he is making his issuing this warning to the very left leaning part of the party. He is considered a moderate. Yeah, that game's over. He said, Uh, this I'm the new face. He's more moderate. Well, the crime is off the charts charts off the charts, and, um, Andrew Yang, I mean, he's totally out of it. I mean, he came in, like fifth or something. I mean, slipped that much. She really dead and then on the Republican side, Curtis Leela, who is the founder, the Guardian Angels and has been in that city, you know, since dirt He came out on top in the Republican side, but that's really I mean, that's I mean, what are the chances that a Republican becomes rule? Augmedix is Helping Doctors Focus on Patients with Ian Shakil, Founder
"Tell us what is augmented. Do for those listening We've made these big claims. You said you had a moment. You went enterprise side. What do you do here as they say. An office space. Well we really address. Perhaps the biggest pain points in the lives of doctors all over the country in that is the tragic fact that doctor spend hours every day on the computer on the typing clicking charting not paying attention to the patients in front or doing productive tasks horrible for the doctor horrible for the patient in patient. Experience it really for the health system. In general dad is the problem we exist to solve so weadock. Medics give doctors. Phones that they put on stands orlando urge or google glass or even these days we hop on their telemedicine calls zoom calls in an either of those three modalities. Doctors used us. Use our service. We take natural conversation between doctor and patient and from that livestream we do the documentation. Emr noting ourselves so the doctors able to focus on the patient experience and have having natural organic conversation in the background are services. Structuring filling out epic sterner. Whatever the mars better faster than what a doctor would do on their own. The saves the doctor hours a day makes him really happy and retain increase documentation faster and better better in every respect really You're probably wondering how does that magical outcome happen. it's really Like i like. I like to think the union of Humans and software technology. What's going on is we're live streaming from the device from the phone or from the glass the audio and video tweet tech enabled. Remote scribe literally human thing of them as a guardian angel or a wing man from afar. And they're assisting with the conversation They're listening in seeing as that conversation unfolds on their distilling on summarizing that too structured. Note in the mr better and faster than what the doctor would do. And that scribe is sitting in a specialized scribe cockpit which is full of automation technologies. We've built so a natural language processing note. Builder that is constantly auto expanding auto completing the note very very quickly as the conversation progresses and has been described to invoke speech recognition Models that kick in for parts of the conversation and various other on templates and tools that have the net effect of really deep. Burdening scribe on in allowing them to be a really high quality and really quick You do in fact need a human in the loop to to make a service like this work You know. I i if you try to do this with so-called puree i in pure software. It just won't work Think of it. This way can even order. Dominos pizza on my alexa or book. A delta airlines flight on my google home let alone imagined a doctor-patient conversation with head nods and concerned turning into a note. So people get little asimov in what's possible. I think that you saying that really matters. Because you know when read. And i were visiting with eric. Topol in at scripts havens says he says. Look you're not taking humans out of. We're never going to do that. And it's actually a problem to even think we would finish your thought there and then i want to transition to your contemporary this joining us here and ask you about why he's here. Go ahead well. I mean yeah i mean. I couldn't agree more. I like to say that you know. We're kind of like uber. You have to build uber before. He built uber driverless. Cars can sort of come out of the womb Driverless cars and so our strategy an effort to improve ratios Using technology over time using workflow mastery in huge data in size on which we have

I never had any more footsteps. Nothing my sister wasn't even sat. It just all stopped my sister's now twenty five and still remembers lucy. She can vividly pitcher her and is adamant she was real. It scares her now but she says the still a sense of comfort what she remembers as well. Maybe lucy just needed a friend. Maybe lucy needed a family. I have a few more shorts experiences to share. And i'll jot them down when i half the time. Keep up the great work. I would like to share with you a story from when i was young please do. I was only nine when all of this happened. However now that i am older my mother has divulged the full story to me and i will tell the story as it happened from both points of view fantastic. This everyone is jackson story. I lived with my mother. Father older brother and younger sister in an old but nice three bedroom house with plenty of room for all of us. The living room is connected to my bedroom which i shared with my brother and it linked up with the hallway which then linked to the kitchen on the side. Creating a loop between the four hundred at the end of the hallway was my sister's drew an opposite the with my parents room. We would all quite young. Most three kids would always eat together around small table in the lounge room. One day when my sister was around four years old. My mother was setting the table force when my sister said you need to make room for lucy. My mother asked who is lucy. My sister simply responded. She's my friend. Neither my brother. Nor i had imaginary friend growing up but my mother said to play along with it so we did over the next week. Lucy sat with us every meal. We would need to have a place and cutlery setup and a cook for a drink. My mother even food on the plate one time. But my sister responded. Lucy isn't hungry. This was all very playful. Nothing creepy or scary. My sister will play with lucy. I'm gonna talk about said quite a bit and we thought it was quite cute as this whence hondo even at a young age. I remember that being the strange feeling growing in all of us about lucy in particular in my mother she grew frustrated at setting the table for or my sister would play with luciana room. My mother will be irritated by it. My sister seemed to pull away from playing with us. Or all cousins to play with lucy alone and at times my mother will be so fed up that she would say she's not real was met with tears and screaming of she is to. This went on for about three to four weeks around this time. I started to hear footsteps in the house at all hours of the night running up and down the hallway quite often across the hall from my sister's room to my mother's room. I always thought this was just my sister not being able to sleep. They sounded like half footsteps little full year old footsteps. And this is when things started to get strange. I've played guitar from a very young age. One day i was practicing on my sister walked in and asked. Do you know this song. And she began singing. Lucy in the sky with diamonds. My parents went big beatles finds in brackets. I know i'd never had the song. My parents had vinyls of the beatles but cd's but around and they never played the vinyl anymore. My mother head this from the other room and came running in asking. How'd you know that song with my sister replied. Lucy told it's me my dad got out his vinyl and played it. My sister's son get nearly wed for wed and would regularly as for it to be played. My mother told me that the volume quite often Whilst it was on but only during that song one day my auntie came over at the time she was right into spiritualism tarot and psychic readings walked into a front door and stopped dead. Still this something here. Like what said my mom. My unsee wasn't aware of lucy. It was almost something we didn't talk about because we thought it would come and go. There's a little girl here. She said i can feel how. I can almost see her. Red hair readdress. I don't remember ever asking what lucy looked like. My mother though explained everything to my auntie. They both asked my sister what lucy looked like. She said she has red hair and freckles and wears a red dress like any. My sister had never seen an now that i'm older. My mother has shared with me everything the footsteps while my sister never went into my mother's room. She never left her bed. My mother would often feel torch on her leg or sit at the end of how bad but there was no one there.

Cuomo did not put on his mask, even when he wasn't speaking, and none of his so called puppets his so called state experts had mass on either. And so finally in this crowded environment reporters was saying a Cuomo is this another case and do as I say, not as I do. Cuomo. Ignore them. Ignore them. Shouldn't we got the right kind of filters? You know, we got the right kind of circulation going and nobody in that in that room where he decided to hold this press conference yesterday in Manhattan, agreed with that, including his state troopers, All of whom guess what we're wearing masks while Cuomo was boasting and toasting himself. As being the person who had mandated mask wearing in New York saying, You see I was ahead of the curve. Guys constantly patting himself on the back. In fact, he was talking about how Time magazine had nominated him as a potential man of the year. Right? This Fauci is AOL CEO Allow crazy Alexandria, Ocasio Cortez and believe it or not. Andrew Evil eyes Cuomo. But let's also go to what he was talking about. Because he is he's a lover of bashing law enforcement. It could be local township village police. It could be county cops. He could be the sheriff's. It could be municipal cops. It could be his own state troopers. This guy takes every moment that he can. To attack law enforcement on a regular basis because they don't view him as being a man impotent and they know that he's pretentious. How well or enforcement officer Says. You want to put them in their place like Councilman Joe Borelli of the South Shore of Staten Island who defied call most edict that said, You could only have 10 or less people a minion or less for your Thanksgiving Day extravaganza as you saw on the front pages of The New York Post. Joe Borelli not only defied the governor I think he had 10 plus one. They were all extended family members, immediate family members, and he said, Look, this this guy called was not going to be telling me what to do on Thanksgiving or Christmas or any other holiday. He should mind his own business. Cuomo didn't try to enforce it. He didn't send the New York State Sheriff's just to sic them on Barelli and his family. Uh, there were no finds that would levy dead. Borelli, an elected official like himself. Instead, he chose this bully pulpit yesterday to condemn Borelli and anyone else who are elected or appointed officials who dared challenge is Can Cuomo the second You want to be a tough guy? I've been gender neutral. I'll tell you what a tough guy does. Go volunteer in a field hospital in Staten Island and help covert patients. If you're a tough guy, you want to celebrate Thanksgiving, bring your whole family in your extended family and go volunteer in a hospital. Helped covert people. That's how you celebrate Thanksgiving. Don't create more covert positive people and then expect other people to come to your rescue. That's not the spirit of Thanksgiving. Uh, the caramel do that. Did you see him in any hospitals? Any Bible wax like exists outside of Staten Island Psychiatric Hospital right down the block from new door near Father Captain on a boulevard. The Cuomo offer his volunteer services to any Sort of what we call it Mash unit that has been set up to deal with the rising number of Corona virus victims. I don't think so. Uh, she was. Cuomo could have gone to Staten Island Psychiatric Hospital and looked at all the empty rooms and maybe he could have said she was. This would be a great place to send some of the emotionally disturbed persons from Staten Island and Brooklyn. Who are roaming the streets, the subways in the parks. We're not taking the medication or a threat to themselves onto other homeless people and actually to residents at large. I haven't seen him do that, anyway. Let's uh let's open up our phone lines, says King Cuomo has spoken again. How dare you question the pretentious one The omnipotence want and by the way, this tough guy routine is wearing thin. Anybody who knows Andrew evil eyes. Korman knows he grew up in Hollis Wood right next to Jamaica Estates. That's where the Trump family grew up. They were like two peas in a pot of soup and a sandwich, a horse and a carriage. The Trump family helped the Cuomo family and vice a versa. And now all of a sudden, this is tough guy image of Anjali belies common who never had a street fight in his life. In addition to his younger brother, Fredo, Chris Cuomo, pretty boy. That's all you'd have to do is punch him right in the schnoz, and these guys would have folded like a cheap camera. They never had street fights Trump that I had street fights. I just acted when your hypocrisy comments just hypocrisy all around the narrative. When it comes to Corona. It's deadly. It's bad for older people. Definitely true. But the percentages of death throughout the country and throughout the different areas is less than 1%. When you look at the true studies, so they take a lot of information that has validity to it. They spend fear all around it, and it's got the nation paralyzed. And it's ridiculous. Um, Jake, Jake, let me ask you a question to see the sea today will determine they'll make up a lists and they'll check it twice as to who should get the Corona virus vaccines. First, they're going to create a cue. And already Maryland and Colorado are suggesting that printed prisoners in their state those who are incarcerated in their state prison facilities that county jail's the municipal jails. They should be considered priority number one. And not Grandma and Grandpa. Anybody over 65 prisoners before Grandma Grandpa? What do you think of that, Jake? I think it's well again like anything. They could pull some tidbit to pull some validity towards what they regard regarding these prisoners. For instance, I'm in prisons every day with what I do. Almost. I've been in prison since March, when this started knocking on what I'm good. People are dying in prison. They don't even have high rates and prisons, at least in New York. Take Staten Island just had a surge, but again, it Z deaths. You gotta look at death. We got some good medicines. Now we have more experience. I think that side of the story should be spoke about more than well. We are later on. We're gonna talk about doctor Dr. Emanuel Rahm Emanuel is brother who says At the age of 75 life should be over. You can't function. Why should we be giving vaccines badly needed vaccines to those who was 75? Plus, anyway, let's go to Ruth, who's calling from New York. Welcome the WBC Roath. Hi. I'm thinking that maybe we're waiting until January Fist before distributing the vaccine for obvious reasons. Anything that looks good for Trump.

If you want to get to heaven you need your angel another way to say it without your angel you'll fail to get to heaven. You little frayed yet worried about how this will work. That's what that's what the heat is one of motivate yet. God's giving you this great gift. You need to be friends with your guardian angel. The more you call on him the moral help. But that's you know what you think. I'm like just being dramatic here. Mother church has Rich traditions and in the guardian angels are not just some like you know, that's the way you make the kids feel good to keep them safe from the monster under the bed know. It's we need that to their guards. There are real monsters not just under our beds but constantly looking to cause our perdition. So let's look at a we're going to look at a prayer that was popularized in monasteries during the so-called and I'm doing air quotes over this Dark Ages so-called reality is it was anything but dark during those times prayers essentially the same as Eastern churches used today, and it's part of a service that includes the octopus prior to the mother of God. This is what's beautiful is the church has always tied together the assistance of our guardian angel in the intercession of our Blessed Mother..

He given to us by mother church, and I'm going to bring you a new prayer later on know I say it's from other church, and we have this tendency today to just kind of like off everything about the faith. I think a lot of people they just kind of simulate it's not real to them and it can't be I think one of the worst places is when it comes to our guardian angel. But doctor the church st. Hilary. He tells us he was a bishop and I fought the Aryans and his doctor the church tells us in the Warfare We Carry On we remain strong against the evil Powers through the Angels who are our helpers. Helpers that's quite a nice word, but doesn't quite have the punch doesn't explain how you're going to fail if you ignore your angel. But he's talking about Warfare with evil Powers. I think everybody listening. I think it's very parent these days that that's not just some trite statement. That's a very real thing. Isn't it? Lets go on with Saint Hilary. He makes this a little more clear. They're angels of little children who look upon the face of God everyday. These Spirits have been sent to Aid the human race. Our weakness is such that if the guardian angels had not been given to us. We would not be able to resist the many and Powerful attacks of the evil spirits. That says it much more clearly. What Saint Hilary's telling us is without our Guardian Angel we would not be able to resist. So we don't have the capacity to resist resist what the many and Powerful attacks of the evil spirits. In other words without our Angel we will fail off and even expands that teaching further. This is why we need a higher nature to protect us. The evil spirits are angels Day by their nature have a better capacity than us in our human nature particularly in our fallen Human Nature..

"Sung king you know him as the street racers. Hans Solo. I love that Han Solo in the fast and furious movies. And you can argue that. Seng's portrayal of Han the impossibly cool mentor of Tokyo drift. A member of the core fast and furious family made the franchise the most surprising and successful blockbuster series in Hollywood history. I would definitely make the argument so we are very lucky to have the chance to speak with Song. Today on Asian enough. Thank you for being here with us forever me we want to start off by addressing the big news. Which is you are coming back to the fast and furious franchise for the upcoming fast and furious. Nine which is huge for those of us who obsessively watched these movies because we know than Han. Your character has been gone for a couple of movies and in fact has one of the most tremendous most unpredictable. Arc's I feel like in movie history in that you know Tokyo drift. Which was the third movie in. The fast and furious franchise is the one that you originated this character. And we'd love to hear from you. What has your relationship with Han. Been like over these years. It's a love hate relationship. The hate is a strong word for it. I think it's maybe love and difficult is what it is because I'll never dismiss what the fast and furious and with the Han characters done for my career and my family and opened the Hollywood doors the first time I you know Justin and I worked on festive fears like we would just literally walk around the production office and then go into his office and start like laughing. Because can all these chairs the free snapple into the free water right those little things that we really appreciate it. Because when we're shooting tomorrow we had nothing we had a fold out table with five sticks of. Wrigley's spearmint gum spread out and a box of cold intimate donuts breakfast. That was our craft service and better luck tomorrow. Of course was the two thousand two indie film about over achieving Asian American teens who flipped the Model Minority Myth on its head when they start doing crimes so better luck. Tomorrow was Justin. Lin's first solo feature recode to feature call shopping things with Quinton leave and there were still students at Ucla. And then I heard that this young filmmaker out of UCLA was making an Asian American film. But I had already worked on a couple of Asian of American films that never finished and it was kind of a fiasco and felt like yeah. It's great to be part of this movement but we're not going to be able to compete with because you can't even finish the movie and when I came back to La. I was so disenchanted anytime I heard about another Asian American filmmaker instantly said this is probably not a good idea. That was already probably a few like maybe five six years in right. I mean I've been already a journeyman into business. You know and the auditions that I would get are the roles that would be a waiter or Yakuza and I felt like maybe the timing was rights. And this idea of being an actor in Hollywood is not GonNa Happen. Right and then I got a couple of phone calls from some aspiring producer. Asian American producers. And they said Hey. There's this guy named Justin Lin. He's a ucla and he's doing this. Asian American film. You should take a look at the script and you should like audition for it now and then two more friends call and say hey. You should really take a look at the script so Justin I actually met at. Danny's on Wilshire and western Koreatown. We met to talk about the script right and talk about the role and stuff like that and at that time. I think Hon- was written as a Filipino character. That drove a hundred civic here like a shaved head. Wow he was really perpetuating kind of like this. You know southern Kelly J. JD M. car culture kind of thug. And I'm from Georgia so I don't identify with I'm into muscle and you know my role models were like James Dean. Paul Newman John Wayne. If you will right and so this thing did not resonate so when I sat down with just and I said Hey I can I addition for Ben. The main character for best. I better tomorrow and just in being the the the patient older brother if you will and he would make a great poker player because slow played it and he's like why not. Let's see so. I went at like three times to read for Ban and knowing the whole time. I'm way too old looking. I don't fit the VIBE and I said to myself if this dude cast me it's movies gonNA suck and compromise vision. So after the third edition called me and said. Hey Man it's not gonNa work out but I would still love free to play on. I was like this is a guy that I would go to paddle with one last shot. Because if it doesn't work out I probably have to go and find a real job and it was so challenging because we had the whole budget in place but then the investors had asked Justin to change all the rules to Caucasian and Justin being. Who is now not GONNA do it? And he started putting the equipment on his credit card but as soon as the credit card companies. No you're maxing it out. They basically linked to the other companies. And then they'll hold your credit card so we're screwed and then I had worked at this restaurant in Beverley hills this cream barbecue place called Hula okay. That is no longer and we shot for a day and then justice said the money's not coming in so we probably have to shut this down and I went to work and I was so depressed right and I'm a server. They're left of a smile. I was so bummed and this is where I feel like everything happens for a reason. Like I don't necessarily subscribe to all these myths and stuff as some Guardian Angel but if if there is such thing that night she showed up and by that you mean John Wong and her husband. Jeffrey go founders of the Cherry Sky Films Production Company. They had been coming into the restaurant for a couple years and there was the first time they saw me not smiling and that kind of goofing off and she said what's wrong way so sadness explain the situation and she said can. I take a look at the script as I have in my car. She goes Why don't you in the director come by the office? Like the talk we went in there spoke for about an hour and then she wrote us a fifty thousand dollar check. Wow there's something like so mythic about this whole story but isn't that the keep a fifty thousand not enough to finish this movie right and so then we're stock and just kind of freaking out and the only person he knows that really has money. Is this guy named Mc Hammer right and how does he know MC Hammer so justin used to work at the Japanese? American museum is to be editor for the downtown Japanese-american Museum and so he was in plans of shooting tomorrow. And at that time the cannon xl one three chip consumer camera was coming out. And if you guys are aware if your techies like big deal so that was the first option of going digital post to film and suggests that went down. I think there was a convention down there to look at the new cameras coming out and Hera was there so hammer's standing next to a kid. You know anything about this camera. And he kind of helps them out and he goes. So what do you WanNa do this well? One day I hope to be a director. They Kinda you know. Talk a little bit and hammered being who is gave him his phone number and said hey you ever need anything. Give call so fast forward. The money's not happening just freaking out the credit cards frozen. I think he had the the phone number like pin to his wall. For you know for Sake right is that what the hell he calls. Hammer Hammer picks up. What's up is okay. Do you remember me Zig. Know what do you want? Here's the situation he goes. Hey it's not hammer time anymore. I can't just be funding these things. But here's ten grand. Do what you gotta do but you know I don't I don't need it back but here it is so if you go and watch. Tokyo drift anytime. There's a Tokyo City. Scene is hammer
A Close Call
"In August. Two Thousand Fifteen Steve Hill. Who had been John? Sharps crew chief and I went to restore the NEMESIS ANNEX T to flying condition. Sharps Reno Racer had been stored in a hangar. At the Mojave California airport that had been damaged holding the annexed t captive until the hangar doors. Were repaired. I was to relocate the annexed t to the Moriarty New Mexico Airport so that sharp could set some world speed records before retiring the aircraft to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. Sharpen his wife Patricia. Designed and built the t around his six foot four frame and the rudder. Pedals were not adjustable even with cushions and bolsters. I was barely able to reach the rudder pedals. I was unable to perform a magneto check as the next. He slowly crept forward. During the run-up this of course was unacceptable. So I taxi back and inform sharp and the crew of my predicament hill. I returned to Moriarty to contemplate plan. B The annex t was subsequently flown to Moriarty where rudder pedal extensions were designed and installed on April twenty-seventh. Twenty seventeen I finally had a chance to fly the annex t since the winds were forecast to increase hill and I met at hills hanger early to get a leg up on the day and give me a chance to see how sharp's racer flew. The annex t has no forward visibility when being taxied so a lipstick camera was located on the right main landing gear in conjunction with a small video screen and the cockpit so the pilot could see ahead hill. Followed me out to runway two six to both assist and observe my flight. As soon as I applied power I was able to raise the tail on directional control was never an issue. I remained on the ground. Perhaps a bit longer than needed which may have been a function of the elevator. Trim position on lift off. The tee seemed very well behaved. I climbed out to the South West in order to get a better feel for how it behaved before returning to land. Although the aircraft was not unruly the air certainly was so I decided to cut the flight short and return to terra. Firma and aircraft incident or accident is almost never just one thing. It is a series of connected dots that when added up can lead to an untenable situation or worse the first dot manifested itself. Unbeknownst to me as I enter the downwind leg it had only been a few days before that I had flown the glider clubs Piper pointy tow plane. When doing so I would fly a close tight traffic pattern in hindsight. I should have flown a pattern commensurate with the speeds. I would be flying the Reno. Racer that is a one hundred fifty miles per hour on final and somewhat faster on downwind and base geared down to in the green and I started working to slow the next T- because my proximity to the final approach was far too close. I banked steeper as I watched myself fly through. Final DOT number two. I must have added a touch of bottom rudder dot number three at that point mortality Hubbard a watchful bird of prey. And the next thing I knew the next departed in a snapple. I would like to claim. It was superior airmanship skill and reflexes. That kept me from dying that day but I know better. My Guardian Angel was watching over me and only by the grace of God that I make the control inputs. That allowed me to recover at about two hundred feet or so Steve Hill was privy to all of the above and this is what he observed. The aircraft disappeared from my view and hearing to the West. After a few minutes I heard the aircraft approaching from the West and her bills radio call of left down wind for runway. Two six with gear. The aircraft appeared to me to be at a normal altitude. But maybe a little too close to the runway by this time the winds on the ground had picked up and we're gusting a little bit. The winds were mostly aligned with the runway but may have had a southern component. My perception was such that. I almost called bill on the radio. Remind Him to maintain one hundred and fifty miles per hour pattern speed. But I did not. I watched the aircraft perform a left turn from down wind base and the bank angle seemed a little steep to me. The aircraft continued at northerly heading with left-wing down at less than five hundred feet. Ag L. suddenly it appeared to snapple. All the way around and recover right I was looking into the morning sun and did not have an ideal view but I believe that the aircraft continued in a roll to the left. The maneuver happened extremely quickly. Literally in the blink of an eye. It happened so quickly that I was at that point. Not sure of what to make of it. All only that I was in a descending attitude on northbound heading and then if I did not initiate a pull up I would be making ground contact with ample speed in hand about one hundred and seventy or so. I started climbing westbound. Turn for an upwind leg while I contemplated my course of action. I reentered the down wind with substantially more distance from the runway. This time the pattern reflected the speed at which I was flying. The Annex T and the turn from base to final was made at a comfortable bank angle and speed once properly stabilized. The T flu like it was on rails. There was a bit of a southwind so I touched down left wing low as I wield the little racer onto the ground. Shortly after securing the aircraft we were in contact with sharp who was gracious enough to forgive me my transgressions and the fact that almost destroyed his wonderful creation. Sharp offer a five page explanation. Absolving me of blame but I knew better. The fault was entirely mine. The takeaways from this incident are many but mostly the recognition of how easily one can allow the deck to be against oneself. It's important to reflect on the various types of risks identifiable acceptable unacceptable and most important on identified remembering that uncertainty is always there hovering over the horizon awaiting the arrival of the unsuspecting pilot. Who has allowed his or her situation awareness to go by the wayside and for identified risk to enter the equation. I've found the episode humbling. A stark reminder of what a lack of attention to detail can lead to reality had returned with soul searing clarity. I had violated a number of tenants. Those irrefutable physics of flight and aerodynamics that cannot be violated and yet I lived to tell the tale
Harry Dodge: My Meteorite: Or, Without the Random There Can Be No New Thing
"Think that you have in this book. Mein meteorite shown how people tend to get things wrong until they're allowed to collide and form new things. Was this book very difficult to right? Thank you for that. I had an idea for the book and I began by writing out these These three anecdotes that kind of are that are assured. The longer anecdotes one was the anecdote about the Performance in Chicago that had gone so poorly and how started performing again and That was a big coincidence and there was another huge series of coincidences that I write about With regards my birth mother when I found her at age thirty six and we had a bunch of very odd things in common and another set of coincidences. I wrote about at the beginning of reading. The book was The Guardian Angel Incidences as I called where I met the same cabdriver again and again a couple years apart in the ninety s when I lived in San Francisco I started there and then I started to take notes on sort of my everyday activities for about a year and then when my father died because of course the book begins with Father. Dying in the book ends with my Father Dying. I began writing the book and Ernest when he died. And I got confused Here I had all these notes that that I was going to fill out into a book that had a sort of forward progression but now I was writing in the present in two thousand seventeen but also filling out the notes from two thousand sixteen and then I realized the book could be kind of I. Think of it as kind of horseshoe-shaped where two thousand seventeen is moving forward and progressing as his two thousand sixteen and they sort of meat in some way at the end yes undergoes through your home life. You remember the. I think fourteen page letter you right when you jump out the second floor window to go to a concert that you felt without being there your life would be inferior altered emptied and you taped the letter to the collar of the dog so that your parents would be sure to receive it when they walk the dog. The book form of important messages between you and the people in your life and between you and your readers. You're very good writer and you're a very good teacher and this book my meteorite or without the random there can be no new thing. It's published by Penguin Press. It's a penguin original. And I never thought I'd the things that you teach me about artificial intelligence about robots. About how what we learn from the web comes to us. How many things have to be assembled before the triples occur that allow communication? You really took me by complete surprise and led me by the nose to understanding all kinds of things that I thought. I was incapable of understanding woman. This book my meteorite one of the surprises review when your birth mother is that you share the love of a particular novel by Theodore Sturgeon. It's a book a really Short Little Novella. I think even called the dreaming jewels which I believe was first published. It was either the late sixties early seventies and I as I say in the book I founded when I was ten years old and the bookstore was I think Michelle in the in the kids section and I used to read a lot of science fiction than and I read it and I. It's just a sort of weirdly. Abject book where this kid is caught caught eating ants under the bleachers. And he is. He's an odd creature in feels like he's from another planet in he's kind of being raised by these really icky brutal parents and he's really alienated from his community and ends up running away from home and joining the circus and he ends up being a shape shifter and he ends up being controlled by these kind of Maroon that have actually fallen from space and then the jewels tend to create things and they had evidently created him and The book was blew my mind. You know as a Kid. I used to keep this long list of books. I had hundreds and hundreds of books in this long list. I used to and dumb it under this one. This particular book better read. When I was ten I had put five stars in the column. And so is my favorite book for years. And then you know When I was twenty five or thirty years later when I met my birth mother we sat talking and we evidently had this book in common.

If enough people leave five-star reviews. Your restaurant can become the most popular dining spot in all of London. Even if it doesn't exist this is what a man named Ube Butler discovered in two thousand seventeen when he paid a bunch of his friends to leave five star reviews for a fake restaurant that was in reality. Justice Jed in his backyard. He called it the shed at Dulwich and advertised it on tripadvisor as a chic and modern restaurant that served moods rather than meals. The photos of his food were all fake as well including a chocolate Mousse that was actually just a sponge covered in brown pain as the shed became the number one rated London eatery tripadvisor Butler was swarmed with reservation requests. Not Actually prepared to serve anyone any food let alone the best food in London. He told collar after caller. That is highly exclusive restaurant fully booked up for months which only made them want to eat there. More Butler finally decided to allow guests eat at his fake restaurant for one night that winter to hide the appearance of his house which looked like a five-star dining establishment he convinced customers to wear a blindfold until they entered a dockyard guests were served frozen microwave dinners and canned soup with fresh herbs sprinkled on top of course to make it look a fancy diners reported that they loved the unique experience and were eager to return they were in Paris last night. Yuba giggled about his gullible customers. And tonight there at the. Shan't and dime very nicely done Lisa Hudson Lily. What did you think of that story? It sounded a bit more convincing than this girl just walking around finding you when she just needed meals. I agree with you. I thought it was super convincing. I thought my reading of it was really good and I deserve an A. But who would do such a thing? That's so mean versus somebody else. Who finds you? Maybe she hears that. You're really hungry. And she does something positive and good as opposed to this liar who pretends to have a restaurant. That's just mean well. It's decision time. Time to decide. The Promise and Forgotten Journey by Silvina Ocampo
"Of the joys on the path of a reader is seeing a name that you see for years and years. Who is this person as we know today? This person who we hear of and don't know is likely to be a woman who's been neglected. This woman Safina. Oh compo was considered to be one of the great unknowns of South American Literature. She worked with or who we spore his when he was putting together his collection of fantastic literature working on that anthology as well was her husband. Cassavetes who wrote a book that Voorhis praised very highly the invention of Morrell. I read born face and Casado race as a young man but until recently I had never read much to my discredit savina Ocampo. Now I can say in my defense. The two of her books a novel and a book of Stories have just been translated and published by city. Lights press many people know city. Lights Bookstore do you also know that froing getty has oppress attached to that bookstore? Yes there is a press and they have published Safina Compost Forgotten Journey which is a book of short stories. But if I am not giving away too much the forgotten journey is the journey out of the womb into the world. This is a journey. None of US succeed in remembering completely. He did not remember it or face. He saw that. Silvino aqap ball had the gift he said of clairvoyance and so now. We have to thrilling books. Forgotten Journey a book of her short stories and I mean the longest is six pages and then a novel called the promise and we say an awful because it is probably the longest thing she wrote. But it's fairly a hundred pages. I have three translators here who have been working on Silvino compo and they are just some of the translators who are working on Silvino Compo. Because she's about to be the discovery that we have all been waiting for. It's very exciting. And one of these translators is the marvelous Suzanne Joe Levin who goes by the name June. Wien many of you will know as soon as I tell you that. She has translated. Cabrera Infanta. Julio Cortazar Carlos Fuentes Man will tweak Severo Saad we hand Buick Assad Race. And she's translated a great deal of poetry more than forty book on translations she is the dean of Spanish South American literature and translation with her are to people who've been her students and who worked with her on each of these two books. Jill how did you come to know? Savina OCAMPO's work well I came to know Selena. Compost work Because I had the good taste and look to make amazing Literary critic when I was very young New York name a mirror years ago and he with him I was down in Argentina and Together we went to the House of Combo They were married. They were married and so I met them for the first time but of course I had already heard of them because I studied Latin American literature in college and And I was at graduate school that time so but getting to meet. These people was like so exciting. You know it's sort of like meeting Gods When you're a student you're studying. These people like absolutely amazing. Did you also meet for his? At that time. I actually met him the year before because he was brought to yell to give a lecture and evolve bone. Was there also Savino Campbell about whom we're speaking being cassavetes and all who were triumvirate of sorts? Once they married for fifty years he continued to be their dinner guest and You know he as I said. He said of her that she was clairvoyant. She didn't take many photographs. She did not like to be photographed when you see a picture of Safina or Campo. It's not unusual for hands to be crossed in front of her face and if fast if she were going to this or that party she would sing with this ugly face. Jessica Powell use started to read Cedar Fina under the direction of Jill Levine. Yes I was first introduced to Selena's work many years ago in a translation seminar that I took with Jill when I was a graduate student at UC Santa Barbara and after that class ended Jilin. I decided to collaborate on a novella which was actually the only work that Silvino Compo and her husband Blake Assad wrote together and so it was lower haight which is fantastic and we co translated it. And after that Jill and I started talking about you know Oh wouldn't it be wonderful to translate more of Selena's works and so then in Katie a? New Young came on the scene and she's completing her doctorate and her dissertation is in part on Compo Katie's Latif John worked on the translation of forgotton journey. A book of short pieces. There has been also. I don't want to confuse anyone a book of poetry from the New York review books as well as another book covering the entire spectrum of So Vena or Campos pros. I've found my own beginning point. Were these two thrilling little books. Let's here who would like to read a section of Savino Compo? Who'd like to go start with the first black? I can read a section of the Olive Green Dress. The first paragraph from journey forgotten journey. The very first book of Savino Gone Full. Let's hear the first paragraph of the Olive Green dress the olive green dress. The display windows stepped forward to greet her. The only reason she had left the House that morning was to go shopping. Miss Hilton blushed easily her skin translucent as a waxed paper like those packages who's wrappings reveal. All that's inside but beneath such transparencies where the thinnest layers of mystery behind the branching veins growing a little tree over the surface. She was ageless unjust when one noticed the deepest wrinkles on her face or her long white braids. It was possible to catch an unexpected glimpse of her youth in some childlike gesture. Other times she seemed to have the smooth skin of a young girl and light blonde hair precisely at the moment when she looked as if old age had caught up with her. The first paragraph of a very short story called the Olive Green Dress as I read. The stories seem to escape from me as I moved forward in them. There's a strange quality of presence and absence coal joint as she writes. It's quite extraordinary and this first paragraph. Because it's so zigzag you know I I saw it begins with a very odd sentence received like awkward. How could display windows stepped forward to greet you of course? That's that's very surrealist element of you. Know which was the time she was writing in but you know she she young as she old. It's like going from a woman's You know perception of herself but you were talking about how she felt about. She looked I mean. I thought this is kind of interesting example now. Above of that of of those issues and so as very twisty this is Jill Levine. Who is perhaps the Guardian Angel of these three translators bringing savina Ocampo's writing into our present
