"He didn't use the word but he said that And that began the new york times effort to pressure. Gruden wants gruden resigned. The new york times pushed out a flurry of other emails. From jon gruden he in two thousand twelve referred to joe biden as a nervous clueless. P. word he used racial slurs while he didn't use the word he referred to negatively dispiritedly to gay people he used the f word About roger goodell Instead that roger goodell was an anti football keyword. You can presume that someone close to goodell leaked the Lengthy emails goodell is a is the nfl. Commissioner gruden disparaged. Jim repeatedly over the years and these emails were leaked. Now here's the thing the investigation that uncovered the email six hundred fifty thousand emails over a decade. Is it an investigation into the washington. Redskins not an investigation dole jon gruden so why did were his emails. The one that leaked and nothing else. His can't be the only bad emails so the story is just beginning. If the other emails don't leak you have to ask yourself why and there's got to be pressured to release those other emails. Why is gruden the fall guy would. He's not even involved. Why is he the bad guy unless it was because he dared to say something. Negative about roger goodell. But there's a larger story here that concerns you and me and everyone else on the planet Beyond the nfl grooten was pushed out of his job. In particular because of an email from two thousand eleven ten years ago the last troubling email from gruden came in two thousand eighteen it disparaged roger goodell and the concussion protocol protocols put in place by the nfl and he blasted goodell as someone who actually hates the game that was two thousand eighteen. It's now two thousand twenty one by the way gruden was not even an nfl employees at the time he was a color commentator for espn.

You're in atlanta falcons. Fan you kind of any of it. We'll get into the braves in a minute. Jon gruden is out. he resigned. He was going to be fired so he quit What i find first of all out of the gate interesting are the number of people so he was a fire. He was fired he resigned. Well yes but a resignation elul fiery is still all just about a firing and to excuse it as a He fell on his sword himself. They didn't force him out. Is to deny reality and we are dealing with a bunch of people who actually deny reality. Which is why we're here. Gruden is out because of a series of emails hero. There were six hundred. Fifty thousand uncovered emails in an investigation of the work of the washington redskins now referred to as the washington. Football team. gruden used to be With the redskins and then left to go to an espn job. He was at the espn job for a number of years. He left in the middle of twenty eighteen to go back into the. nfl coach. The raiders while there he continued to trade emails while espn with people. The i e mail in question that caused gruden all sorts of problems was an email about the executive director of the nfl players association. He referred in two thousand eleven to the head of the players association. Demorris smith And said that he had big lips. Demorris smith is black. It was read as a racial pejorative..

"This is the reason why john grooten had to go. This is the reason why. There's so much uproar is the reason why he should be punished like he should be visit. Not a situation where someone violating free speech. This is not a situation where the los angeles you'd meet. The las vegas raiders terminating his employment with the franchise to somehow a breach of first amendment rights. And all this kind of stuff. He said something racist and stupid and misogynistic and anti gay. Get the fuck out by it. Again for older will sit there and say well he's tripling on first amendment rights in this too harsh to terrible unless you horrible. Hey if there's another he's not banned from the nfl. He's not arrested for what he said. Every another team wants to hire him on. Sure they'll be a little bit of a punishment for roger goodell but from roger goodell but the team really wanted to hire john grooten at their coach they can go ahead ultimately and do it. I don't know how well it will work in the community. I don't know how well that will work in the locker room after all this. I don't know how it will work with sponsorships. I don't know how will work with the fan base in terms of bringing someone like him and especially in his second foray back as the head coach. What the most vegas raiders. That he really wasn't successful. His record was well below five hundred so all of those things mixed in. I don't know how putin it would be. Organization franchise to hire john gruden but because of the ignorant and stupid and vicious in vile and disgusting things that he email and he thought about and he was his character. Showing that part. It's not preventing him from getting another job is not preventing him from earning a living this. It's so so so we need to stop with that bullshit. We need to stop. Because you know. that's what's coming. You know from those who have an agenda to keep us apart. We know from those who have the agenda of keeping those on the other side of the tracks. Ignorant in terms of the Education that they need to have concerning racism. And all those type of things you know the keep the privileged. Even more privileged. You know they're going to have to throw. They're going to be throwing that out there now. They're gonna play john grooten at the victim in this. You know it's coming and you know there's thousands of communities out there that are going to be stupid enough to fall for it because after all live in the dumbest country by far for nothing plenty of examples to a backup my my premise or my thoughts and opinions about that. So it's going to be interesting. Moving forward the see. Exactly what goes on and i'm interested to see because according to the times the story grew said emails to bruce allin then the president of the watching the football team and others during seven year period that ended in twenty that we know about the nonsense. We know about some of the things that went on the window about the sexual harassment. We know about women being treated as objects and being and being disrespected the lowest form we know all the things that happened with the football organization in washington. Dc my washington. "In the faces and everything like that is still way for us to have a sincere discussion about that and really have people turned a corner chain corner educate themselves respect others and say i respect your opinion. It's hard it's impossible for my generation. Do that the have the utopian society that. I wish that i had in my lifetime. It's too late for me too late for my generation. I'm a fifty two year old man too late. John grooten the fifty eight year old man too late for him to all to all of a sudden understand or to sit down with someone of a different race or a different religion or a different gender and really absorbed soak in the learnings into teachings in the education. And this is how we feel and this is what we go through on a day to day. Basis and have jon gruden. Truly understand for him is to flipping late. Demand is fifty eight years old. He didn't have these. He didn't have the thoughts and opinions. I started when he was forty. Eight years old or when he was forty five years older when he was fifty two years older when he even fifty years old. This is something that's been ingrained in him and despite the fact that he's been in the nfl for decades around numerous upon numerous upon hundreds of players of color the fact that he was sitting there on an email in right in terms of the mary smith anybody who is of color that he had the lips the size of michelin tyres. Didn't say oops well you know. I usually say rubber lips to refer to a guy. I catch as line. He can't spit it out to go ahead. And put that in an email. And for bruce allen received that as an email and just say no big fucking deal just showed again y always say for my generation generation after generation before too late. Too late we're going to be living in a racist divided ignorant selfish society and it's our job as adults as our job. Who wants to keep this society moving in a better direction than what we have right now even though if you take a look at the generation before in a generation before and you take a look at the forty and you take a look in one thousand nine hundred thirty s in the sixties and seventies. "Of this other stuff was address it makes everything else. Feel like window dressing connor and i think this is where you often hear. People talk about the difference between diversity and inclusion and that you can make an efforts to hire people from different backgrounds and representing different groups but ultimately if there isn't an inclusive culture these people will have a hard time ascending to the tops of organizations gaining real power and the nfl ultimately may be a place that they don't want to work and i think that's what these windows represent is some of the entrenched values value is a weird word to use. It's like the anti value but some of the entrenched lines of thinking that are in the nfl and that ultimately have prevented a lot of the progress forward that we should have seen by this point another pothole traffic and flight delays aging public transportation. Continue to support local moneda all year long by investing in education engaging in hispanic focus recruiting a training and keeping us connected. We believe that. We are unstoppable after all night without the other so okay. Let's move on to the least important topic we're going to discuss on the show. And that is where the raiders organization goes from here And then more. Broadly where the nfl goes from here. But let's let's start with the raiders. I mean this was the guy who was brought in to shepherd this organization for the next Yellow us four years into a ten year. Deal and look. I don't think else would have been surprised. It was sort of six more years of mediocrity and he got another ten year deal for mark davis but they have to sort of change up now and it has been a middling organization and i'm not quite sure what direction they have because the previous direction was just Were jon gruden and his football team and we're just going to be that. Yeah i mean it's interesting. If you think about had mark davis will. Head mark. Davis stuck with jack del rio. I mean they were in the playoffs. They are in ascending franchise. They had khalil. Mack in amari cooper Where would they be now. I think that would be kind of an interesting thought exercise. But if nulla if you look at the two thousand eighteen in two thousand nineteen coaches who were high around the same time. There's certainly some very talented coaches that are still there especially in two thousand. Nineteen the class But a lot of those guys were again available and raid interview. Two thousand eighteen. You know where they would be You know you think about Coaches who have perpetually not gotten a chance and it's like you know how how different would've dare cars career ben if you know they were one of the first seems to hire eric. B enemy or another coach. That still hasn't gotten the chance like that and see wonder all these. What if if they really wanted to make a change. They wanted to make a splash for the franchise but opted not to go with kind of the object of mark davis affection. What this whole thing would have looked like because you did have a really promising core players. You did kind of waste three years here And derek carr was up for another contract after just ending an exceptionally affordable. Wonder coming closer. One so i feel like there is definitely a gigantic opportunity. Missed here in general and you have to wonder how hill reevaluate his own hiring processes if at all To make sure that you can still capitalize on on the window here connor. You make a good point in that mark davis's entire direction after his father. Al died was to bring jon. Gruden back to the raiders. He was so focused on it. Even when they had other coaches like jack del rio he would always say. Oh if i can get john. I'm going to bring him back. So that has been his entire northstar for this franchise. Everything depended on him bringing gruden back. So now what is his plan. And how does he recalibrate. And when you think about the fact. That mark davis was so obsessed with jon. Gruden leaving it to the raiders organization to discipline. Him probably wasn't going to make sense. I mean we're talking a lot about now. When did the raiders have the emails. When did they know the contents. Did they allow him to coach on sunday. Doing everything and i think a lot of this comes back to the fact. That mark davis probably is in the person who was going to hold jon gruden accountable yet me never seeing that he. I mean the press conference. The introductory press conference was one of the one of the things that i'd ever seen in my life. It was like if a celebrity was. Like if i knew that lady gaga was coming to my house for dinner I would. I would try to do something really ornate but that was just so over the top because i would assume that that's what she would would want You know i don't know maybe lady gaga Quite dinner. I don't know but like it was just so over the top and like he made the whole thing. Just of just the highlight package in like the hype and everything surrounding. It was was so uncomfortable. And it's like you just watched how giddy he was during this entire thing. And and that's when. I think it became clear that like jon. Gruden was basically the owner of the raiders. At that point you know what i mean like you come in and that guy's never going to tell you know i mean you. You see the look on his face. You see all excited. He was I'm still amazed that he fired him to be honest. Or i guess like you know. Put him in a position where a confronted him to the fact that to the point where he decided to resignation was was appropriate I'm surprised that happens. Still to be honest but i think it's It's just a we all have these preconceived biases you know. I'm not You know certainly suggesting that. Nfl owners the only people who are entrenched in thinking in a certain way. But you know marks was jon. Gruden can fix this thing. And i think now You you have to wonder now. They've moved to vegas. The whole plan was built around this showy franchise with a with the television star head coach. You know what what is the plan. Here you know. 'cause there is no higher that can really match a perceived public public gravitas of of jon gruden But you know you know your quarterback maybe doesn't have the out outer star power. You traded away the other two guys that potentially could have had that star power. And so you know this is really going to be a a. I don't know. I mean he's going to be casting a wide net and but also trying.

You're you're very public figure. You do have to be aware of what you're putting out there Even to a small audience and number two. I think there's a a lot of thing where you can sort of say. Oh i you know. I i was upset and i was uttering things i mean. We know we do podcast. Sometimes you utter things and it doesn't come out quite right. Maybe in the heat of the moment you used a term that you know you shouldn't have used and it just sort of slipped out but these are also written emails. I mean y when you're writing it's a little bit different. It's a little more a little more aware of what you're doing at that point and look. He's taking his medicine. He lost his job. He probably won't work again but I'm not quite sure how you can possibly justify This as some sort of the jon gruden being victimized in some way. Yeah gary i think they're written and they also were sent over a seven-year period. And the way the times characterized. The emails was that he casually and frequently engaged in this language. So it seems as though it's a pretty large sample size. I think the other important thing to remember is that we are getting a view. A rare view into how powerful men in the nfl speak behind closed doors and regardless of who the intendant intended recipient of these emails. Was you know. Even you know his expectation that these were private. Communications not meant to be made public. But he's engaging in hate speech that certainly calls into question his ability to lead. Nfl locker room in a league. That seventy percent black. He has an openly gay player on its roster. His organization has both men and women in it. So i think what we've seen from those emails. His own words certainly disqualified him from being in a position where he was leaving a franchise. I think this gets to the heart of the complaints that a lot of people have You know thinking about the coach hiring process for example right. Where if you look at. So this is just a casual chap between bruce allen and jon gruden but roussel is a guy who is a hiring position and you know is in a lot of these meetings and deals with the hiring of coaches jon gruden at the time with someone who is certainly consulted for his thoughts on head coaches over time or players were different scouts or whatever it is. I mean he's still part of the nfl infrastructure and so when the conversations behind closed doors have this kind of general tone to it. I think that this sort of really depicts well. The frustrations the confusion The anger from groups like minority coaching candidates. Where it's like okay This is how my boss talks. You know this is how my bosses friends talk. And so when i go into meeting with these people You know is what i'm hearing. Just lip service you know. Do they talk like that. When i'm not around is the reason. I didn't get the job because they secretly feel this way. And i feel like that to your point. Jenny is is really a valuable window right. It shows people kind of how these conversations go the the tone that they take and that we kind of have a reason to be vigilant about The way that The way that people talk and you know and and be on guard about Some of this stuff. And so. I don't know i. I thought that you know when i saw those things. That was the first thing i thought of. Was you know. Other coaches at the raiders have interviewed in the past Other coaches that dealt with bruce allen in the past. And what were they thinking about when they left those interviews. And what do they think about it now. Reading those words you can see why there are things like an investigation into the workplace conduct at washington. You see why there have been hurdles for inclusion for people in the queer community or women or groups that are different. From what people in the nfl the predominant group is which is white men. I couldn't help but notice during the monday night game and also right after. Espn and on their halftime report on rooms resignation. One of the commercials. That played was the out. Football is for everybody. It was probably not playing that way but it was a little reminder there that yes in some ways. Football is for everybody and it is becoming more inclusive. But we kind of have this. I don't know just just as this old disease that still needs to be stamped out permanently because even if you don't see it front facing It's still there. And i think this was a reminder that it is still there in it's weird because if you're the nfl roger goodell you can put every- ernest foot forward in every ounce of effort into creating an inclusive environment which vile council does seem like. There is an effort in that direction to do. But until you're willing to directly confront the source of the systemic issue. It's like all this money and all these hires. All these initiatives are gonna fall on deaf years because the people that own the thirty two teams. you know. Still feeler thinker actor. Talk this way and it's like it's the most self defeating behavior. I think i've ever seen and you know i noticed that commercial too. And that's you know that's what popped into my head was like well like there was probably some marketing group. That was brought in here and he spent money on this. And you ask people how this would make them feel in all along you know that you know their owners that just don't care about this or you know you have. You're sitting on all these emails. You know of people who were talking this way and so it's it's it's very It's a it's a very like. I just said like kind of a self defeating behavior for them because i do think the people who are putting forth the earnest effort to create inclusive environment or ultimately going to be defeated If none.

"Most stunning developments. The nfl has seen in years. The new york times published a story about email set by jon gruden to among others then washington franchise president bruce allin over a seven year span. Those e mails reveal three days after a wall street journal piece revealed a racist e mail regarding union had demorris smith included stunningly misogynistic and anti lgbtq language. Hello and welcome to the q. V. nfl podcast. I'm gary grambling. I'm jennifer anti-us uncut war and we're going to talk about jon gruden his emails and the aftermath for him and for the raiders. But we're actually going to start the show with the bigger picture and what is in a way really at the heart of the scandal. One that goes beyond just one head coach. That's the investigation into the washington. Football teams toxic workplace environment. And the fact that all these months later we have no details on what happened. Yeah gary certainly there is plenty to discuss just with gruden himself and the content of his emails the fact that he felt comfortable in engaging this kind in this kind of derogatory language with other people in the nfl sphere the factors that go into encouraging and making people feel like they can engage in that kind of language but the way in which these emails came to light was in conjunction with the nfl's investigation into washington's workplace culture. And so because of that. We can't not ask well. What happened to the rest of the information generated from that investigation in july. The nfl announced that the investigation had concluded but they said they didn't even ask for a written report from investigator. Beth wilkinson that instead they ask. I simply a verbal report because the information was sensitive. So we haven't seen any record of exactly what was uncovered during that investigation. Just the summary of it and that's the nfl's head of investigations. Lisa friel described it as a very toxic work environments. But as we've seen in the gruden case seeing the actual emails once those were made public that only then did he face accountability. And i think in terms of the washington investigation. We need to see what details were uncovered in that investigation and also what is in the rest of the emails that they collected which cover things beyond simply washington toxic workplace so for a small number of emails to be leaked pertained to gruden. Certainly that begins a very important conversation about how. This behavior was allowed. How this person ascended to a very high position of power in the league all of those things but we also need to take a step back and say why are we letting other people off the hook gruden in a way should remind us that this kind of language and behavior is probably more pervasive than we think in the nfl. And here's an opportunity to shine a light on all of it. The entire thing going back to july just bizarre because again. This is an organization that holds these investigations and We got a written report on ray. Rice got a written report on Richie incognito and jonathan martin Two hundred forty three pages on. Tom brady Probably maybe asking to deflate a football before a game and the fact that they just sort of said well you know. We're not gonna put this in writing i. It was lucky it cynical to say but it seems quite clear You don't put it in writing. You limit the possibility of that report getting leaked if you don't want getting out there Which brings us to the point. And we're not doing engage in any conspiracy theories here You know janai when we did. The deshaun watson reporting Over the last six months one frustrating thing is the fact that i mean we spent months tracking people down just work intentive calling every person who might have possibly come into contact with shawn watson and the reaction is well clearly. They didn't do any intrepid reporting. This is a matter of a powerful person just leaking stuff to them and that's why they're reporting this That is not the case. That might not be the case here. There might be some that these things are getting out in the way that they're getting out but right now. It is just bizarre that with all of these data points. The only ones that have become public are about jon. Gruden who is completely. On the periphery of this washington. Football team investigation. Yeah and in the new york times report. They covered a lot of ground and clearly had access to a lot of emails and the ones they presented were extremely problematic. It was notable that even in that small sample size just gruden's will not not necessarily a small sample size but the narrow window of search terms right. Just gruden's emails with bruce allen and some others that there was a reference to photos of washington cheerleaders. I wearing only their bottoms having been exchanged in that That email exchange right so if that kind of back and forth was going on with somebody who was on. The periphery of the nfl Not even with a team at that point then. Shouldn't we know what information was being exchanged along those very same lines Between people in the washington organization. There's just so many pieces of information that we haven't received details about and while the nfl did issue some sanctions to the washington organization. A ten million dollar fine and they have had dan santer step away from day to day activities for several months while his wife. Tanya is out in front. I have to imagine that part of the discipline was crafted with. Well there's not going to be a written report public so we're just going to make discipline based on whatever we're telling the public that we found toxic work environment right because we know a lot of the disciplines levied by the nfl are basically based on public relations. While what would happen if all of those details were released. And what would the discipline look like in that situation and it has to be the question that we're asking now current verizon wireless internet customers. The Daily Wire's Matt Walsh Discusses the Firing of Football Coach Jon Gruden
"Matt Walsh from the daily wire Welcome back to the show Thanks for taking the time with us today We appreciate it Hey Dan thanks for having me Yeah you got it So Matt this situation with Jon Gruden the Las Vegas Raiders coach You know is this the new standard You're one of the best commentators out there on the ongoing culture war against us which we didn't ask for by the way I mean is this the new standard you send an email ten years ago with some crappy language in it I mean really if all of us had our emails from the last ten years disclosed publicly I mean we'd all be fired and part two of the question if I may You know they have a M and M Matt performing at the halftime of the Super Bowl show What do you think his emails Yeah Eminem we don't have to look at his emails and we just look at the lyrics that a song these performed for the public and millions of dollars and same for Dr. Dre snoop dog they're all performing And they're going to perform some of those very songs where they use the language that John Gruden just got fired for using And that's why I agree with you I mean look any of the people who are pretending to be offended by John Green's email I would encourage any of them I challenge any of them to just publish their Gmail password and let us comb through it We'll keep it in your loan go back farther than that I promise But let us look through ten years of messages and give us your text messages to have you never in ten years said one message send one message with a content Of course that's not the case And that's why we have to understand what's happening here with Jon Gruden This is prosecuting by mob tribunal a thought crime This is the problem is the thought that he express it's almost no different Like if the canceled mom I've had the ability the technology to actually literally read your mind They would eagerly do it and they would cancel you for things you haven't even said out loud There's only one step removed from that and canceling someone for a private email sent from their private email account to a friend who was not offended by it I mean it's the definition of a victimless

And maybe I'm the only one, but I wonder like, is there anyone else out there who saw this news about John Gruden? And was just so torn. And torn is the wrong word, maybe just sad, because I person I really enjoyed watching talk about football. It's gone. Forever. And I think I know some people in the Raiders organization. I know people who've met him. They love him. He's a guy who loves football. He's passionate about football. And even John Gruden's final act, his thing was, I don't want to be a distraction, peace out. He failed as the Raiders head coach. He won one Super Bowl. You can argue that the only time John Gruden won a Super Bowl was when he got handed a team that was built by Tony dungy. Remember he, he got to Tampa, won that first year with a team that wasn't his really. And that's kind of been his claim to famous. I want a Super Bowl one time. But also his enthusiasm and love for football. Are the thing that I want to I want to choose to remember about him. I want to read a tweet by Albert breer, he said, also fascinating, how quickly the Gruden emails have become public. Well, all aspects of the league's investigation into Dan Snyder have remained completely private. Lesson for everyone in the difference between the people who cash the checks and those who write them. The emails were found. During the investigation into the Washington football team owner Dan Snyder for his improper contact. And again, yeah, the NFL released John Gruden emails. We still do not know what dance Snyder did, or said, and I would assume it's even worse because it's just amazing what money can buy the NFL protects their billionaire owners, I don't know. I think urban Meyers has stepped down. I really agree with what Gruden said there is that I don't want to be a distraction. Okay, get out of there. Head coach should not be a distraction ever..

Misogynistic, racist, homophobic things, and you know, I look around at my life and I think of my friend Marcel, who such a wonderful human being. And I think of my fiance. I think of my friend Arthur, whose husband Brian is fantastic. And those are all people in groups that John Gruden's comments like attack and say, I don't know. I wonder like, did I not know the real John Gruden? Now here's a statement John Gruden released. He said, I have resigned as the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders. I love the Raiders, and do not want to be a distraction. Thank you to all the players coaches, staff and fans of raider nation. I'm sorry. I never meant to hurt anyone. Signs from herbert last year does that compel the organization to say we really need to take advantage. We've got this talented guy on a rookie contract. We've really got to put our foot on the gas now and maybe it does. And if that's great if that is the case then that's great for staley. Who is as you mentioned a really sharp coach and did a fantastic job at the rams defense but it would also be a bummer for the coaches in the past. Who haven't had that kind of support. I think if. I had to pick a team that i would want to coach this roster. The chargers roster is obviously a roster. That i'd want to coach but also the chargers general because like the they just don't have any fans and so it's great like you can kind of just you know you can experiment. You know little bit if your brand is daily you could probably try some things and like no one's gonna care because no one comes to the games anyway you know so it's great and then like you know if you win that's great. Las Vegas Raiders Draft Alex Leatherwood
"It's heidi here with sam gordon and we're gonna get into what happened. Here with the raiders at number seventeen in the nfl draft. Sam alex leatherwood offensive linemen from alabama selected. Seventeen for the. Las vegas raiders. What was your initial reaction. Because i know heidi first and foremost great to be here. I had a great time in cleveland. So far it's been a heck of an experience. Glad you're here With said In terms of your question definitely surprised right definitely surprised Not surprising right tackle. i Continued to voice leading up to the draft. I thought right tackle away to go was an obvious. Need in the offense of line of ministry of this team despite its it's consistent struggles. Last year's the offensive line was a pretty reliable unit and lot of turnover tram. Browns gone just going to be some reshuffling move out gave jackson you move out and you knew there was going to have to be some adjustments made and there was a glaring hole the right tackle and they went with right tackle so i they feel the need but just now player. I thought they'd fill that need with and you look at how the board was shaking out. Thought christian dare saw. I was going to be big especially considering what his grade was. And and and where. The raiders were picking. He wasn't now that said just because alex leatherwood is a surprise and we didn't expect him to be there doesn't mean he won't be a good player but it feels like more often than not the raiders. Under jon gruden. Mike mayock have reached for players that they could have gotten later and are maximizing the value of their first round picks damon are net in twenty twenty was a good example. That and even cleveland farrell. Who's a very good player by the way in the top five and twenty nineteen so a couple so with that in mind. I think alex leatherwood at trend. But the jury's still out on how good he's going to be i think he has a lot of potential beauge player was an all american big-time film comes from a big time program and he's gonna get his opportunity to prove mike. Megan jon gruden ryan look. I want to be optimistic about this. But i think there were other guys that were on the board. That had a lot of potential. Bill Barnwell Breaks Down NFL Quarterback Moves
"So bill. We gave you do the math a whole month away from this podcast before our dependency bio chemically kicked back in so i just hope the last four weeks have been everything that you personally needed. Pablo got on many vacations. I turned around my life after six months of just staying watching football now. Bill barn wells weekly column on. Espn plus and he hosts the bill. Barnwell show podcast realistically. I have done something that few human beings have accomplished. I managed to get one pack of moments from nba. top shot. yeah. We share that same addiction. You are far deeper into the game than me. I realized over the weekend. I just want there to be an nfl top shot. Because i feel like that's going to happen right. It has to. i mean. Imagine the things you could do. You could send somebody that colts fake punt from years ago or or if you wanted to try some of your friends. Perhaps you could send the russell wilson interception from the nfl top shot to a certain person with the initials m used to host the show. Yeah just randomly picking in that example in those initials absolutely but bill. We dragged you back here. Speaking of a certain quarterback who threw a certain interception emotionally terrorized ours. Because this is an especially dramatic. Nfl offseason. they're all these big name. Quarterbacks who want out of these relationships that seemed from a distance at least pretty broken and russell wilson and the seahawks. I need to ask you about that. I because i know russ isn't feeling respected by head coach. Pete carroll reporting. I know that carol wants to revoke all of his cooking privileges. We've heard now. Russell wilson like storming out of meetings which is kind of funny to imagine like door very lightly slamming so this particular soap opera. What is all of it. Feel like to you much ado about nothing really. I mean i just i. Just don't buy russell wilson drama. I go back to his contract. Negotiations this is the same player in the same agent. Who wants imply that he would leave football in the middle of these negotiations entering the final year of his deal to try professional baseball. Where russell wilson once for the iraqis and the organization he hit to twenty eight in the low minors before returning to college football. It was not a realistic threat. But if that way does he want the seahawks to give him more helpful on the offensive line which has been sort of the crux of his public complaints. Yeah i do believe that. And i think that the seahawks could benefit from giving him more help. They relied on russell wilson to run his way out of sacks and free pressures from unblock players which has worked for that stretch buddies also taken a ton of hits cuss russell. Wilson plays the way he plays. He is going to take a ton of sacks regardless of how good his protection is the best way honestly pablo to get him. Hitless frequently would be to run the ball more. Which is the exact thing. Russell wilson was trying to get the seahawks do lasso last offseason. So there is something here but i very much doubt that leads to a trade. My favorite thing about this new cycle i think is that russell wilson has relayed via his wrapped. Adam schefter that he is not demanding a trade but if he were there are these four specific teams that he'd like to go to the bears. The cowboys the saints. The raiders does any of that make sense to you know not at all i mean the classic russell wilson tropez that ciara was going to pick teams him in new york in los angeles which this is the opposite that list even the teams he chose are so strange. Maybe you'd argue that. He chose teams with great offensive. Lions triumph of the seahawks. But the trade doesn't really add up the same. Stu have agreed offensive line. But they're like sixty five million dollars over the salary cap. The cowboys have a great line. Whenever everyone's healthy but they also have back prescott. that's not gonna work either the bears. I don't understand. They don't have a great line or any cap space. That one makes no sense to me on either. Level the raiders. Maybe are the most interesting and plausible candidate of the bunch with a great line and some cap space to work with. But when i think about jon. Gruden as raiders coach. He wants quarterbacks to do exactly what jon gruden wants on every single play. I don't think any if it really adds up to meaningful trae dialogue. I don't think there's going to be a conversation between the seahawks and another team about trying to make a trade for russell wilson work but this is twenty twenty one anything is possible

Are Raiders plotting to trade Derek Carr, pursue Deshaun Watson?
"According to a report out of las vegas. The raiders are taking calls on quarterback derek. Carr it's suggested in the report that it could potentially be the beginning of a three team trade to get to shawn watson in a raiders. Uniform shannon vegas. Try and trade for sean top. Five top seven quarterback. I think you should be in the running for watson. Skip there something that's been on my mind and the bother me last week. I called you the night before and told you that has some information about about jon. L. came on the show and they're about six thirty top of the show. I said to shawn watson my sources tell me shawn watson has ashby the texans for trade and this is not. This is just being broke but this could ask a couple of weeks ago now. Adam schefter reported twenty minutes out to me that show watson to ask for trade basically saying that he's breaking the news which at and i said what transpired that he wants to go to the jets. He have a fondness for robert solid. Everybody keeps saying jason this and that so what they're trying to do. They're trying to add egg pool pork to a hamburger. That i've already made is still a hamburger. Youth and economists tried to add to the story back to this absolutely skilled. I don't this report came from chris. Simms yes okay. What transpired skill. And you said this yesterday. When he was when he was talking to the press conference the player he said the player of the the new england syria away to new caserio said the player yes he must have realized how it sounded his head because he started saying shaw desha. It's too late. You everything off his thing and our to our for everything to my agent day google level but anyway skill yes they should skip. I just got always got the impression. That jon gruden wasn't as far the derek carr. I don't know what it is. I could be totally wrong but it. Just something about yeah. He's good but i don't really know if he can take me to where i need to go. I am making ten million dollars. The i do have one hundred dollar contract. And we haven't been to the play. So i'm as you can be viewed as a failure skill for thirty million dollars ain't got nothing to show for it. And there's a lot of have to do with his defense. They print his lands. Twenty fourth and thirtieth last three years are good bradley the off season he so you look at it. They're waller. it's a top three tight end. They got josh jacobs. Who made the pro bowl again. If i'm not mistaken hillary rodham. He nice receiving corps offensive. Line is solid. Yeah john was. It will be a major player for them. And in this offense again. It's the west coast system skip. It'd be foolish not to try

"Possibly pursuing you either are or you're not. It feels like Hey, we're talking about it. OK, well, then you're pursuing to Shawn wants him. Hey, we're not talking about it, then we're not pursuing to Shawn wants in. I'm sure there are a lot of teams today who are possibly pursuing do Shawn wants in Now here's the deal. According to the Las Vegas Review Journal. Several in NFL insiders expect the Raiders to field calls from teams enquiring about Derek Carr's availability. There's a flip side to the season car just produced. That increases demand insiders saying could create a scenario which a three team trade allows the Raiders to acquire to Shawn Watson. Now for that to happen, the Raiders would have to receive Two first round picks for car, which they would then package with their own first rounders in 21 22 to present a compelling offer of four first round picks to the Texans for Watson. Who was reportedly asked to be traded. Well, that's different than what I was told. I would if you were gonna land to Shawn Watson, that Two first rounders, and then they wanted to players who are already on your roster that they could take. Now. This is different with four first round picks for Shawn watching, but I'm looking at cars, numbers and these air respectable numbers. But it always feels like whoever Jon Gruden has is his quarterback is not good enough. There has to be somebody else who's better than him. And I think that's the case with Derek Carr. I was so proud prize that Derek Carr was going to be his quarterback. In Vegas. I truly thought That Jon Gruden was going to go after calamari. I truly thought that he was going to go. We're going to bring in somebody exciting moving into a new stadium. And we could take advantage of those wheels on the turf. And we're gonna be something explosive. You knew had a very good running back. He knew he had a very good tight end. But if I gave Jon Gruden to do over Wonder now, That doesn't mean they're getting Kyla Berry. But I I think that John was going to go after one of these younger quarterbacks, and that's a couple of years ago. So that would been Colin Murray. Yeah, Club. How come Derek cars and just going straight to Houston in this trade like staffer? I mean, is it because of his brother was so bad there that the Texas don't want their car like golf. Uh, you know, did they write? The guy wrote that they have to trade car for two first rounders that they would turn around. Houston, You get two first round picks for Derek Carr. Who I mean that that was my first thought is wow. And then you start to look at well. Okay, I got a quarterback who's under 30. What? Jalen Ramsey brought two first round picks, right? I guess he Jalen Ramsey. But if I look at the numbers, though, if you throw 27 touchdowns and nine interceptions, he throws over 4000 yards. Yeah, McLovin. I got a spot Washington football team. Okay, I'll be lower first rounders if they could take him win. Are you going to give up two first round picks? You know this Kirk cousins to the Niners? That story's not going away. It's kind of strange where I I checked with somebody yesterday and I go help me out here. 40 Niners. Everybody keeps saying the right thing about Jimmy Garoppolo. He goes, No, they they're not going to do with this. What I was told the Niners aren't going to do with the Rams did to Jared Goff. And disparage him or give you cryptic messages there. You know that the Niners I think we're there. Okay with keeping Jimmy Garoppolo. And and I'm paraphrasing what you know, my source said on this, but they're there. They kick the tires on a lot of cornerbacks here for an organization that has a younger quarterback. Under contract. They kick the tires on quarterbacks. They did it for Brady. They did it for Stafford. They're doing it for just Shawn wants in. That doesn't sound like a stable situation. It feels like Hey, if you want him quietly privately, give us an offer here because it feels like the Niners are in business for another quarterback. Whether it happens. It's hard to argue. That they've sort of been. It's one of those. Poorly kept secrets. And I and I I just feel like they're gonna move on at some point. Yeah. About time, Kirk Cousins got a chance to join a team that was built and ready to make the Super Bowl that time. Here's Here's a trivia question for you. In the last 450 days. Was one quarterback who has beaten Patrick Mahomes. Their car. I had heard about that, huh? Are you that is not a stat of the day. Uh, okay. Oh, my God. I'm gonna.

Thirty-two NFL Awards
"Every week on this podcast given out. Nfl awards app. The week is over. This could be a bit ambitious but thirty two teams thirty two awards. Let's go we're gonna call this one the best six and ten team of all time award but the washington football team stepped up so now he renamed it already way to change the word on the fly in the moment with breaking news the best seven and nine team of all time award the washington football team now can we say that definitively it may be too early to say last year tampa atlanta both went seventy nine. Those teams didn't even make the playoffs so the early lean is that washington could be the great one of all time. But we don't know yet. Speaking of that game. The clockwork orange award goes to the new york giants because they had to watch i at one point. This season banned myself from nfc east games. I said i wouldn't watch any until the teams are over five hundred. I watch step drop sixty two instead of being super locked into washington philadelphia. And i don't feel like i miss much. I know there's a lot of controversy would get that. Maybe a little bit later but imagine having your eyeballs taped open like clockwork orange and being a member of the giants having to watch that game. Nate sub-field now. Look we can sit here and be upset about it but you could have gone seven nine and got into the playoffs. So how sorry. Can you really feel for the giants the skeletons on the zahara award. Yes some of these awards. We referenced. his some won't get boy when you do get a weird one. You're gonna go man. I get that all right. That award goes to the. Las vegas raiders. Because at the beginning it looked promising. Nice little boat trip trade. Some spices await were crashing into rocks. Not a big deal here. Some locals gathering on the beach here to help nope now. We're marching to our own death in africa so it was very pro gruden. Hey maybe this gruden guy knows what he's doing and then you're like wait. Does this actually suck again. The drought continues. The raiders have not won a playoff game. Since two thousand to the notre dame award that goes to the green bay packers great record high green. Bay's really good. They're thirteen three though the one seat but nobody outside of their own fan base is rooting for this team. Not only because of the history of hatred. Although i imagine there's way more anti notre dame stuff out there than it is anti green bay but no one trusts you. Yes you're thirteen and three but that's three. Nfc conference championship game losses in the six seasons. A couple down years. They've turned this thing around. They are the one seed. But everybody's kind of overt already before. It's even started the parent's weekend award that goes to the new orleans saints. You guys know the deal parents weekend. There's a dad he wants to stay out with you guys. And he's older he's a little beat up and you're like i don't know like we're going to go out. We can't say no. We respect him too much. It doesn't look great. Doesn't make a ton of sense on paper there's some bad stats in there. But you have to let them do it. You have to let them try and the thing is is you and your buddies like there's no way does this is going to end well. The iceman award that goes to the dallas cowboys man and dangerous. What is with this jolt. A don't let us get hot. This is insanity when this was part of the story lines throughout the cowboys broadcast. Yes you on three in a row. Cincinnati san francisco and philadelphia yay. Then you lost the giants at home. You came in eleventh in the nfc but if you were to get in look out. This is now. It's our time you were eleventh in your own conference dangerous. You had sixteen games to prove that you're only dangerous to your fan. Base is or perhaps the understanding of what the word danger beans the g. league award san francisco forty niners. They had twenty eight players. At one point on i r or another injury cova list which was most in the league. They use the most. I are slots. They lost the most games to injury in the nfl. And even with losing record my coach. kyle shanahan. i can't believe how competitive they were. All season law the dabble award. That goes to kirk cousins in the vikings bike. He's gonna win. Nah no one really cares are one in five star people already over this team so their disappointing season was so disappointing so early that it was just all of a sudden just completely off the radar even though they turn some things around there a bit in the middle of the season with dalvin cook but watching cousins dance reminded me of daboh announcing his tiktok account hickory vickery dot mouse ran up the clock coast. Sweeney's got that drill and now he's on tiktok.

Blame Jon Gruden for the Raiders’ loss to the Dolphins... but do it for the right reason
"Raiders lost to miami. Las vegas raiders are now seven and eight. They missed the playoffs again. This year and the blame has got to go on. Jon gruden their head. Coach I i like jon gruden. I think there have been moments where he's done a good job preparing his team to play. I thought the highlight of the year for las vegas. Raiders was beating the kansas city chiefs. They looked very well prepared. That a great game plan But again this loss to miami coach. The recent failures by the raiders has to go on. Jon gruden you're gonna blame jon gruden for the loss. Make sure you do it for the right reason. So all the attention after this game has gone onto john. Gruden's late dame decision making against miami. Where the raiders had the ball first and goal on the eight yard line with a minute and fifty five seconds left. And the raiders chose to not score a touchdown they had. I mean they first of all they had the running back. Josh jacobs literally taking the other one yard line that he slid down to avoid scoring and did not want a touchdown would have given them a six point lead because they had they were down gas. Were down twenty four twenty five so they didn't want to have a six point lead. They wanted to take as much time off the clock as possible then on third and goal derek carr literally kneeled to continue to run the clock down and they kicked field goal. Giving them a twenty five to twenty three lead with nineteen seconds. Left in the game and people are critical. The strategy like you should have done other stuff. You should've taken the touchdown you should've done. Whatever coulda woulda should say whatever you want to say. I don't think this is the reason to criticize john. Gruden every once in a while you have a strategy. That is a good strategy. That simply doesn't work. I play video. What is it not a tabletop. Game like a board game called settlers of catan a giant nerd and my family. We all play during christmas. And i had a great strategy of putting my game pieces on the the number eight. Meaning that if you have to you have a high percentage chance of rolling in eight like you would think yeah. It's literally six and eight or two of the highest six eight and seven like the highest possible. Things could roll when you're rolling. Two dice and eighths just never got role but i waited and waited my whole strategy revolves around rolling eight with these two dice. And it didn't happen. And i don't know this the probability or whatever. I just know that on paper. That's a good strategy. Like eight gets rolled all the time and this game. It was an anomaly. It didn't happen and that happens sometimes every once in a while you good strategy that for one reason or another. There's an anomaly. And it doesn't work out

Raiders lose QB Carr, fall in overtime to Chargers, Herbert
"And chargers from last night chargers rookie justin herbert having himself a seasoning looked. Great again is quarterback sneak in overtime helped. The chargers win the raiders however their woes continued they lost derek carr early on replaced by marcus. Mariota was nice to see him in there. You look good look. Good enough raiders. Lose again it's four of five now in the loss column for them with their playoff hopes. All but dead coach. Genie is joining the conversation this morning. Good coach good morning but nick. I want to start with you. This raiders started six and three. They your chiefs. They were rolling what happened. How did this team fall apart. One second just very quickly. I'm happy for marcus. mariota chance. I thought he played well. I in came. Maybe gets an opportunity to compete for a starting quarterback job. It's always conducted himself well in this league and obviously didn't work out in tennessee. So i'm happy for him. Now to the raiders. Nobody likes somebody to say. I told you so. But i told you so. Everyone's like oh nick right and such a hater oh after they lost to the chiefs game on dvd. And everyone. everyone's congratulating the raiders though. They're dangerous they're scary. Oh they've given the chiefs try. They beat them once second done. And what i tell you. They're going to be the best team to miss. The i might be wrong about that. Not even sure. They're better than the vikings so they're going to be one of the best teams to miss the playoffs coach. They have a fancy new stadium in vegas. They haven't read. What fans there next year when fanshawe do you think they'll have one banner for beating the chiefs or two banners for beating the chiefs and almost beating the chiefs a second time as those are the two best moments of the gruden era. I'm not sure because this team has been terrible. Since they played the chiefs the second time some would say the chiefs still their soul. I don't know. I wouldn't go that far but i know their defense stinks their quarterback. Okay and jon. Gruden falls apart in the second half a season. These are things i know. And some of sought coming other people thought. Irina haters happened to the raiders. And do i take joy in the raiders failures. Yeah i do actually quite a bit. Where's that victory now. how about that. Where's your victory lap. Now remember that moment of arrowhead that your

NFL Insider Dan Graziano Breaks Down Week 11
"Dan graziano it is eleven fifty eight. Pm eastern so. Thank you very much man for staying up late behind. After that game. I go right to sleep. That was exciting. Dan graziano is an espn nfl insider. And he will get to sleep soon. We promise fired for game like that. Yeah me too i mean. Let's get into this right off the top here the chiefs. Just beat the raiders. Thirty five to thirty one. They beat the team who is beating kansas city. This season dan back in week. Five about a million years ago. So were you watching for in this rematch tonight. Well to see if they can do it again right. I mean that sounds simple. But like i didn't think their victory over kansas city was a fluke because it seemed like they had kind of a formula that they went out and they stuck to. They didn't win but a certainly could have. And i think that's that's significant because they know that's the team that is in their way in their division. Obviously they're on top of the conference in the league as super bowl champion. So you see the raiders. Draft a running back in the first round last year. That can help them. Control the clock and keep mahomes on the sideline like they did in the first game. They played they draft the speedy wide receiver this year in the first round. That can stress their quarterbacks. I mean they're thinking about the chiefs all the time. They're certainly not on that level at this point as the records indicate but they've constructed a team that can play in a way that threatens the chiefs and it might be able to beat them. So they're not as different as you might inclined to think yet and i have to admit like the difference between pat mahomes and derek carr felt smaller than i ever realized it would tonight. What did you see from these two quarterbacks total commanded of the offense which has not always been him. And certainly since gruden's been there. We've seen a lot more ups and downs. Where he looked like he was a little bit. Lost a little bit uncertain But this is years three with gruden and when gruden got there he talked about competent car up and making sure that car believed he was the guy. So that when you know. When ben came together around him he would be the guy that was in total control of things. And and it seems to be coming to fruition. What he's got. He's got people to throw to nelson agholor like out of nowhere as having a career renaissance in las vegas. He's got two very running back. Got a great offensive line. And i think you know he's playing with a lot of confidence as you would expect him to give all those things now. I think he's taken a big job this year in terms of where. He ranks in terms of the quarterbacks. We feel confident about what we watched the did feel like gruden kinda new like no. It's sunday night football. Let's give the people something that they'll enjoy. What did you most enjoy from. Hearing those play called why. I our love to know what the purple walrus was and i mean i think there are some vegas ones like he dropped. The sammy davis in there at one point and then and then it sounded like they've been paying very close attention to the nba off-season because there are a number of james harden and those who among nfl coaches knows how to produce primetime football. Better than jon gruden right. I mean he did it for for a decade or so for us in terms of operating in that sphere. So maybe i don't know maybe maybe he feels like a showman or maybe they're just having a lot of fun in their in their offensive meetings. They sound like all. The time does not all watching every week but was it so as showmanship goes that lasts. Drive man lake travis. Kelsey had some great moments in this game but that catch at the end mahomes calling him the best tight end in the league game. What did you see from travis kelsey tonight yeah domination. This is this. is you talk about reliability. I mean the the quarterback knows he's going to be where he's supposed to be. He knows he's almost certainly going to be open. He know he's going to catch the ball like it's total complete confidence in a guy in a key spot third down. A guy had throw to the end zone in the final minute. I mean he is the best tight end in the league. I don't think it's even close especially when you know. George kittle is on the shelf right now in the second best tight end. The league is probably the guy that was on hiller sidelines tonight. So there's there's no doubt that he in homes are in sync in a way that very few combinations like that are

Las Vegas Raiders face 'daunting task' with COVID-19 issues ahead of game vs. Kansas City Chiefs
"Kid city chiefs at eight point favorite leg. I said we'll get to that in a second on the road against the vegas raiders on this game. Fifty six and a half. We will have. John cheering on later. I'm sure he'll be able to explain whether slightly above the market pain. i have to believe. That's all covid related to be quite honest. The raiders defense in the contact tracing protocol. We're not quite sure. If i'm going to have to get called up to play safety and let me tell you my foot speed not enough to slow down tyreek hill and open spaces really wouldn't say i mean i might try and slew coming off the line. That'd be my only shot. so listen. I the raiders offensive game plan back in week five was good. Obviously but the halftime adjustments that. Paul guenther in the raiders. Defensively really is what i think won them the game. It's really what gave the chiefs offense trouble. You really hadn't seen that from the chiefs offense before during this. Patty mahomes like run especially against the defense of that caliber. You go back to week. Five in the second half. Kansas city was successful. Only twenty one percent of their snaps. One point to carry twenty eight percent success rate through their moms is pressured. A ton the raiders. Were able to do something in that game. They hadn't been able to do most of the season which is get pressure vegas. Twenty six on the season pass rush win rate and then obviously after a few good games. Recently where the raiders have been able to apply some pressure to quarterbacks. They've surged to an average defense in pressuring the week. Five game if you look at some of these numbers. Mahomes was pressured on forty. Seven percent of total dropbacks specifically from eleven personnel. Were kansas city. Essentially lives seventy three percent of the time moms pressured on fifty seven percent of those three wide sets. I would envision off the bye with the little extra motivation of not. Just losing to the raiders but but kansas city not being really happy about gruden and the gang taken victory laps around the the stadium there drivers using using the loudspeaker thereafter the week. Five win that Andy reid is probably gonna come with a pretty good game plan here and you know past the success that andy. Reid is hat off the bye. You mentioned this. The raiders are are probably going to be without a few key defenders but You know another handful of defensive players are going to miss practice all week due to this contact tracing. It's probably isn't the offense that you wanna face short handed in in pissed off and not having practiced to four. I would think. I also believe we'll probably see a little more play action for mandatory. You know patty mahomes in the chiefs past game will probably fair little bit. Better here with play action. Especially if if the pressure starts to barrel down. I would also think that it's worth mentioning that three chiefs offensive lineman or on the cova the list it's believed to be contact tracing but we'll have to see this certainly make this game a little bit different. If if all three of those offensive lineman are out. You also expect sammy. Watkins to return in this game us a full practice participant on wednesday so he should be a full ghost that they're gonna have their their complement of weapons out there. The number in this thing is is really interesting. But i think that this tougher makes a lot of sense. I i just don't see. Kansas city's offense not bouncing back here in a major way talk. i mean. They're playing with a chip on their shoulder. Which is always dangerous to begin with. We've seen their passing offense. That was more a work in progress. Probably the nicest way to put it early on in the season and no doubt that was by design. Get on track with mahomes during for more than eight hundred yards the last two games when you look at the way. Mahomes performed against the raiders. Fifteen total touchdowns just two interceptions one of them of course coming earlier this year the chiefs loss as a double digit home favor and i think it's pretty staggering to know what costs kansas city. That game is the fact that hey look. They finished a net negative minus sixty four in terms of rushing yards. The raiders held the ball for nearly eleven minutes longer and kansas city knows that they can hit the home runs. That are widely available. If they keep mahomes operate i think. The raiders passing defenses. You mention it may trending in the right direction. There's no doubt a lot of optimism out here around the raiders especially on the defensive side of the ball. This is a different beast that they're going to try and counter and with sammy watkins back amongst others. I just don't know where the raiders consistently find a way to get off the field. I agree with that. And i get it. You have to young corners in trayvon mullin in our net and people are thinking to themselves like. Hey we're trending in the right direction. We're starting to get some pressure. Would you look you play at the browns. The total is suppressed because of weather and wind. You're at the chargers. It's likely a a lost game. If two guys can hold onto football on the back corner fate and then the broncos last week and drew lock was clearly injured after taking a hit in the second quarter but you could have been trailing at halftime in that game so listen. I think the raiders are better than we all expected. You look at who they've lost to. It's it's the bills box and patriots. All pretty good teams obviously bucks in bills being very good patriots. You know with bill tough spot. There is well off the monday night game traveling across the country. So i get the by of the raiders. I just need to see more defensively to believe it's real and so that that's kind of where i'm out on that unit. I fully expect kansas city to do some good things here. Offensively

Jon Grudens Raiders and Tom Bradys Bucs: A Special Relationship
"Paul duty as I have a question for you where are you right now? I am in an RV at an RV park in Las Vegas and barring my mom and dad's RV while I'm here covering the now Las Vegas Raiders Paul Gutierrez not only covers the raiders for ESPN. He's written a book about Raiders Fandom and followed the team Vegas kind of living like. A little bit. Paul I of about fifty fall of questions about what life in that our views like. But it does feel like the ability to pick up and react to sudden schedule changes is especially important to covering the raiders these days starting with what's happening right now, we are talking on Thursday evening ahead of this highly anticipated raiders game, and there is a Kovic scenario that you've been covering in depth so. What do we know about the game schedule? What do we know about who's playing or who is not playing? Basically, what has happened is is right tackle. Trent Brown tested positive for covert. Now as part of the protocols here anybody who's deemed a high risk contact with him has to self isolate for at least five days plus one which would be the. Last point of contact, which was practice on Monday they are all there. They were all there together It's the raiders entire starting offensive line, plus let's just throw safety Jonathan Abram in there as well. So man, all of those guys were just placed on the covid nineteen list again doesn't mean any of them tested positive. I was actually told that none of them. But as part of the protocols they have to selfies late for five days. Another other source told me that they've been doing virtual preparation. In case they can indeed get cleared play against the buccaneers in the meanwhile, it was supposed to be a big Sunday night football game. Yes. The League wanted to make sure that that game actually happens. So they bumped the raiders out of their move Seattle in Arizona into that spot. So a game will happen well, guess what if you guys I just mentioned you consistently Test negative on their Cova test the rest of the week and then again Sunday. Morning will then they'll be cleared to play. But at what time? Sunday morning Oh. Yeah. kickoffs at one o'clock. So the backstory all that as well. I gotTA catch my breath here when I started figure this out understandably. Yeah. They on their fifty three man roster. They currently have five backup offensive lineman. That's WHO's been trodden. They've been trying out there in practice every day. That's who Derek Carr has been had protecting him. That's who Josh Jacobs has been trying to run holes through those five guys plus they also have two guys on the practice squad that they could suit up if need be. So as we sit here right now on on Thursday late afternoon the raiders starting offensive line is anchored by Andre James and if you need to know who that is I got a couple of media guides for you can look about. Paul Creek me. If I'm wrong here, but I believe this is the very first case of an entire position group being taken down by cove like I know that we've had players here and there. You put on this list but in terms of the magnitude of what the raiders are facing with the offensive line, this feels extreme. Yeah. An and it's part of the protocol. Really. Because only one guy really has tested positive but it's out of the abundance of caution which we've heard a lot of since since the pandemic hit right you've got to self isolate you gotta make sure you don't test positive or show any symptoms, and even if you don't show any symptoms, still self isolate because you could be symptomatic. It's just very bizarre. It's a strange world we're living in Derek Carr said this week that you know he's been with the team for seven years seen a lot of weird things. He's this is the weirdest thing he's ever seen and it's worth noting like weird is by no means foreign to this organization even within this context I mean, I still need help Paul disentangling what exactly happened for instance with Jon Gruden their head coach who took an approach to corona virus with the team earlier this year that had me confused the media confused, and then ultimately Jon Gruden himself pretty angry at everybody. Yeah. So beginning at Camp, we show up in a media member. We have to test every day just to get in I have fifty two on my belt. All negative so far, which is a good thing Jon gruden passes out t shirts to the media with there waiting for us as we walk in the media room that say crush the virus because I was going to be his mantra he took issue with the NFL network reporting that he faked having the virus but yet kind of just went away then on the home opener on. Monday night football when he later would get fine for not wearing his mask properly, he brings it up himself and says that he never faked the virus it as a matter of fact, he did have it. So he talked about just how it was not fun. It made him feel bad and this is all before training camp. When he said he he went through this and beat it in in that. He has the utmost respect for it and he still wants to crush it in beat it into the ground like it was some sort of opponent.
