You have to use your coordination and slide that box open and get the match out by itself. One handed and then you have to go. And then you have to get the the the the box down into the palm of your hand and angle it just right and take your thumb and just go, you know and not burn yourself. And so yeah. So that was fun. Yes, when I was impressed, was very impressed. His impression and burn your hand. I will not be doing that at any parties. Well, my my mind body connection is a lot better, I'd say. "Five six four six and something could be happening here in just a little bit because all the protesters that we see right now on the eight are standing right in front of all line of three or four dozen police officers probably more than that at least a couple of dozen police vehicles that are on the freeway and again this is both sides of the freeway eastbound eight and west bound they are completely closed in this area so blot of people are being forced to either sit in traffic like our last caller war of seek some other way of getting around this at the moment let's go to Aaron who's calling newsradio six article Erin where you are what you see so I am near Grossmont college which is becoming a congregate at protesters face congregate protesters space you mean they're they're they've been gathered there today there seems to be some kind of suffering coming up as a result of the freeway closure and I was at target where all this started like maybe an hour ago and I heard the helicopters so I was like I'm popping it the home you know and I I take the first three it's only three miles from targets my home normally I watched it but I drove it today and the freeways are closed but now it's getting into the three some of the protesters appear in now you're saying you there are protesters gathering of people gathering at Grossmont college right there yeah and yeah are they marching up toward the from the area down by you know toward interstate or toward Grossmont center and then heading up in your area very well gathering and I think it's probably overflow from coming off the streets but it's scary as heck yeah it's it's it's very unsettling obviously for a lot of people being affected by this and the police are trying to restrict their mood but now after allowing them for the last couple of hours to basically move from the lace a police station to on the freeway and then off the freeway around Grossmont center that back on the west side of the freeway and some of them had been scattering not not the debate national crowd maybe the whole crowd is still there but still a lot of people are still there on the freeway right now thanks for letting us know what's happening there the Grossmont college area our phone number once again one eight hundred six hundred cocoa one eight hundred six hundred five six four six let's go to Clift and I think it is your next on coca hello lifting is there yeah I'm here I'm I'm just driving by gross all right now they're all over the bridge this it's very much a mad house over here on the bridge right over at the drive of the jacket on Rosemont yeah all the frontage road back how are you on are you on the Baltimore Jackson or do I just on a just overlooking all you've got that in the corner of Jackson and Grossmont Boulevard okay where that old toys R. us used to be right right right yeah that's where think they've they've run eastbound date you know we we saw the move up a spot a toward the one twenty five then they got off and came around through the Grossmont center came down to Jackson drive crossed it went on the west side of eight some of them kind of scattered up the ramp and and some other areas you said and some of the side streets right now the bulk of the protesters appear to be now it looks like on the now I can't tell not to eastbound or westbound side update but both sides are are blocked and police officers are right in front of them what their police vehicles right behind them and nobody seems moving anywhere at the moment protesters holding up signs and you see the signs as you might expect criticizing police and and the name George Floyd on some of the signs the man who was killed in the custody of the police earlier this week in Minneapolis but all these protests all started thanks for calling letting us know where you are our phone number one eight hundred six hundred CO go one eight hundred six hundred five six four six this is continuing coverage of the protest in lemay said that started earlier this afternoon that is still going on as police are now confronted with a situation on the freeway on interstate eight in lemay said not far from Jackson drive that has them standing toward the protesters in the protesters right in front of them and it looks like the police line of officers there is is attempting to keep the protesters right where they are and not allow them to move any farther toward the the the next section of freeway there once again our number eight hundred six hundred five six four six if you are in that area the best thing to do obviously is probably avoid the area if you can but the number of protesters in this particular group it's hard to tell exactly but I would guess maybe a couple of hundred right now in this particular area maybe not quite that many but it's hard to tell because they're strewn out a little bit there right by the red lobster on the westbound the up side of the eight it looks like there yeah all right let's go to Kogan's Phil Farrar he's got more on a day road tests all across the country filled billionaire I will get back to villages second that's all right we'll we're we're just watching the video stream of our from our chopper right now the protesters are milling about there can not doing a lot of chanting the they're not marching they're just kind of milling about and by the way that a lot of them that masks on by the way it's easy to see that that bottom or not worry master ice there are some because you somewhere in mass but that's not the best majority of them a lot of them have signs obviously holding up the police officers continue to they they blocked the entire section of the freeway there to keep them from moving in in ahead right now on interstate eight at Marc Jacobs get up a traffic update coming up here just a little bit again as well but it is a situation that for now there's no there's not been any it's ours we know any of violence by any means anything approaching that that there were some reports of some water bottles that were being tossed off a wall earlier this afternoon near Grossmont center is the group all right let's go to fill for our to find out what else is happening with the day that is again seeing protest over the death of that man black man George Floyd in Minneapolis this week for what a day cliff once again as you said right now we are looking at a face to face confrontation protesters just feet away several lines of police officers on east and west bound eight in la mesa these protesters they broke free and they were on interstate eight after holding a boisterous demonstration at the la mesa police station earlier this afternoon the protest comes following the in custody death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

are in our forty second consecutive show physically distance from one another Jack Conan from the coco studios where he has been all afternoon Terence Smith broadcasting from home yet again here on a Thursday night that I know mark some anniversary it was a Thursday night as I remind everybody every Thursday night since Gavin Newsom announced that the state of California had issued its stay at home order's here we are yet again getting set for another couple of broadcast before heading into a weekend I apologize Jack Cronin usually I'm Johnny on the spot when it comes to keeping the exact math on how many days and how many weeks it's been I know this was our eighth full week I believe fifty six days ago tonight it was that the governor issued those first stay at home orders and here we are tonight all sorts of updates in pretty much every single show on that subject we deviate here and there but for the most part that's what we've talked about for forty two consecutive shows you're exactly right it was eight weeks ago tonight how about that eight weeks ago at the time that we you know we didn't know anything the governor was another clinic fifty six percent of the state was going to get this thing in the dire numbers affect the hospital ship at night in been dispatched yet the port of LA that I was just talking about selling its way back to San Diego thank goodness that it did not have to be used in the way that it was projected not you know ends they didn't have to use it for the the overflow or surgeon the hospital system thank goodness and thank you for those who are serving on that ship because they've been also do ask do other things up in LA as well but yeah it's a it's a different world than it was eight weeks ago that's for sure even nine weeks ago when things started to occur before the governor really dropped the hammer on the shut down well listen let in last night's show we spent a little time we only had a short segment because a couple of guests and if you listen to the show it all over are approaching two hundred different programs you know that sometimes we can go a little long with the interviews it doesn't make our bosses happy but if it's a worthwhile conversation we like to stretch those things out so we only had about two minutes to talk about Jack's experience yesterday in getting a cold at nineteen diagnostic test and this is the test that many of you have seen some of you might dread it's that long swab I just want to follow up because we went over the details last night one of our guests city councilman Chris Cate even chimed in on social media because the circle back around to listen everything good you know up to okay last night nothing pop back up you know he didn't start speaking because the swab touched certain part of known or a logical system No Way again it was it was relatively easy you know we joke about it but it was very easy and the people who are there to get great care of you so no it was you know it's fifteen seconds of very very uncomfortable feelings but other than that it's very easy and again we are now located four thousand test yesterday I was one of four thousand people yesterday all your statistic yes re edit and so far it's been highest total yesterday they wanted to about fifty two hundred a day eventually I was only doing it because I have a a procedure coming up in a couple of weeks I want to know the results of that until Monday takes about seventy two hours to get things back in those are business day hours by the way so we won't even know until you know Monday what those are but I I think you know there was plenty of capacity of what I could see I was there at Grossmont college was completely shut down there is all the lines and their security outside and there's the social distance markings and the the tents and all that set up yet I was only one there so I was I was going there in my entire time that I was there and so they were great people who are involved in this very efficient on top of their stuff both on the phone to set it up and then in person as well and so I think that you know once you get all the stuff there the reagents and the swabs and you know the the testing capacity the labs and all that wrapped up you will be able to do this pretty well for more than five thousand people a day at least here in San Diego county yep my favorite detail from last night in case people missed the Jack explaining that whoever it was that was administering the task did tell Jack did not sugarcoat anything said this is going to make you cry yeah just so you know and it's not that it's gonna make you cry because it's so painful it's just gonna make you cry because it's gonna activate something there that's uncomfortable given what it looks like and what we I've seen with this task it wasn't Jack that was gonna be so excruciatingly painful but you would be unable to control your emotions just that sticking that swap where they have to stick it it would probably create some sort of impact or some sort of a fact yeah this ticket all the way down your nose to the back your throat so it's it's as I described it last night almost like one of those long matches that you would use in a fire place not a candles match but on those long matches you use in a fireplace other stick right down your nose and it makes your eyes water but then you know you're off and running so it's a let you keep it I thought you were going to keep the match they don't know that it not does want to go that's the thing that goes to the lab gets tested no no no no maybe they break on the small part they can give you the step no no no no no they have you blow your nose beforehand you know make sure there was nothing in there you know sometimes when you have procedures done I want to make sure that you know you're you're empty depending on where they're sticking stuff now I that's a good question I I wonder how they were treated me different if I had symptoms right because I I didn't I was there as a precautionary thing so if I'm showing up I'm probably go to the hospitals probably the better answer so the diagnostic area is my guess but I'm you know I'm it because your first call your doctor the doctor sets it up for you you call two one one they talked you over the phone do you have symptoms no okay you can do this so it's a it's probably a little bit different but they were still decked out in all the garments stuff all the face shields and you know gallons and whatever so yeah it's probably different to go to hospital and by the way our hospitals do have different areas set up quarantine areas for covered and non covered patients who are or even suspected either wasted to separate everybody else make sure but he's still clean and separated well you took the next question from me I was gonna ask what it was that the doctor or the attendant was wearing who administer the task that you explained it full face shield mask PP everything very professional taking all precautions as you would expect given the times that we are in any last details you want to share with the audience what will move on again two one one has all the information for you two one one they also directed the state testing sites if you need those as well if need be overflow capacity and we also have drive through testing sites including stadium site in mission valley this being used so I didn't go to that but there's also a drive thru size reset your car they do the same thing the company the long Q. tip and stick it in there and then you're often driving away fifteen seconds Jackson finds that I know it looks bad and then they prepare you for it to be uncomfortable but fifteen seconds we can do it we spent a lot of time talking about the county of San Diego county of three point three million people second largest county in the state of California Los Angeles obviously the largest county what we're gonna do tonight we're gonna flip the pyramid here we're going to be speaking with somebody who represents the smallest the smallest least populous county in the state of California that would be alpine county which is a little bit north a little bit east if you're thinking directionally about Lake Tahoe that's about where you would expect to cross into alpine county so we're gonna learn a little bit about the smallest and least populated state county in the state of California going to speak with somebody who is on their board of supervisors when we come back that's coming up next Darren and jackets news radio six hundred cocoa right now real time checking traffic this report is sponsored by Godiva Escondido fifty north bound at old highway three ninety five single over the off ramp is closed to repair a large sinkhole Carlsbad a stall on the offramp seventy eight west El Camino Riel university city eight oh five north of here mark crash at the on ramp I'm what is a clear with electricity to traffic good divers donated chocolate coffee and other treats the hospital workers doctors nurses and caregivers get divers also.

"Terms of re opening continues I would often talked about turning the dial in today we're turning the dial additionally per the governor's direction in order today they are re opening and adding the following categories of business can be opened in San Diego county office based businesses we continue to encourage telework are strongly encouraged that where possible but for individuals who need to be physically present asa office based businesses can resume their operations malls this is just clarifying that both regular traditional malls outdoor malls outlet malls strip malls I any configuration of mall are can be open but again it is only for pickup or for delivery purposes only so no in person shopping but all those malls and and associated retail can be open for for pick up services they've also added selective services that are are able to be open these include car washes pet grooming landscaping gardening in addition to those they've allowed outdoor museums an outdoor gathering spaces all of those are be adding to the states to re open businesses we do ask that each of these businesses go to the county website and fill out our safe re opening plan are simple document you download are you post out publicly as well as make it available to your employees and with those conditions Matt and understanding the criteria outlined in there around hygiene physical distance seeing health screenings and the other various components as planned those entities are clear to to resume operations in San Diego county again office based businesses are strong encouragement for teleworking where possible but for employees for that does not work can be present malls both regular out would mall strip malls or available for for pick up only selective services around car washes pet grooming landscaping and gardening those services are open along with outdoor museums and outdoor gathering spaces the governor today also begin to issue some guidelines for businesses that are not yet open but they want to prepare the issue guidelines for the restaurant industry in particular for in person dining offer senior county this is just further things to think about as we anticipate and look forward to that for the re opening those are not re open at this point but the state of California has issued guidelines for a number of industries for things that they should consider in their planning efforts in terms of what they're doing this re opening phases that we continue in coincides with our continued efforts around testing tracing and treatment which is a vital cornerstone of of what we are doing we continue to build up our supply chains for all the various components that go into executing those tests along with working out all the protocols and procedures for how people can best get entry point into the system access the test and how we can properly coordinate this with all of the various entities they're a part of the testing team in testing effort we also continue our efforts around personal protective equipment we want to continue to ensure that our front line workers are health care workers or nurses or first responders I have the protections that we need I believe we are now up over three point six million individual items of personal protective equipment we have distributed and we continue to push to acquire and distribute more with all of those and all of our efforts around it sure that the capacity of our health care system continue both monitoring ICU utilization and total health care system capacity to date we have done a really good job as a region in terms of coming out this we want that progress to continue and we want to continue to to move forward in terms of meeting our goals and everything that is out there and everything available to you before I jump into the testing slide I just want to share with you that in San Diego county we still have three kids state testing sites we're any individual can make an appointment I'll share the slide in a minute with the website and phone number that you will call to do those but each of those sites are operating daily are conducting just under eight hundred test today we ask if you make an appointment you please fulfill that appointment if not you're taking a spot to someone else could be utilized of the locations presently Grossmont college the county's north in one live well centre in Escondido and the former Sears building in Chula Vista please don't show up at those sites if you don't have an appointment but they are geographically spread throughout the county and again we believe those can do just under eight hundred test a day in addition to those sites which you can act says without a doctor referral you just go to the website or call the number and sign up we're continuing to ramp up our county testing through our public health lab we're working with our live well mobile office to testing sites in southeast San Diego we're also sending out the county's library bookmobile another county vehicles to testing throughout the region looking for hot spots or particular areas are targeted efforts around skilled nursing facilities continue and we continue to take a multi pronged approach to trying daily increase of the amount of testing that we're doing a quick update on the homeless at the convention center a hundred thirty eight more tests were administered yesterday we've now administered one thousand one hundred and twenty six tests to date are the totals presently are three hundred and fifty nine staff have been tested hi that's up seventeen from yesterday and seven hundred and sixty seven residents have been tested that's up a hundred and twenty one from yesterday the only change in the numbers is we have to noon negative test from what we reported yesterday but no other change I wish that we will jump into our slides and move through these quickly yesterday we are reporting two thousand four hundred and forty tests are conducted again a little bit of a lag coming out of the weekend we expect these numbers to uptick we're now over eighty four thousand test total we added a few more contact tracers in case investigators were not a hundred and seventy and we are expecting these numbers to continue to to grow and move up towards our initial goal of four hundred and fifty we expect the number we need will be more than that but we will assess that as we see an increase in testing an increase in testing capacity in testing goal will also have an increased in our contact tracers you see two six thousand two hundred ninety four tests performed we're currently treating a hundred ninety five individuals in our public health motel rooms those rooms remain available to any CDA again who has a positive test who does not have the ability to isolated home and we continue to work with our health care system partners to let them know of this available resource and ensure that they're sharing that with their patients who might need that service our next flight you're going to see this is the chart reminder which on this before if you'd like to sign up for the available state testing you can go to the website listed there L. H. I. dot care slash cobit testing fill out the information and they will direct you to an appropriate appointment the geographical location that is is most convenient for you I you do not need a doctor's referral you do not need insurance I do not have to pay you simply have to go through the process of signing up are you also can call the number there is eight eight eight six three four one one two three to schedule an appointment today were reporting ninety six new positive covert nineteen Kate test results that is out of the two thousand four hundred and forty total that that I mentioned in a previous life that is a four percent positive rate are rolling average for that for the preceding fourteen day period is five point one answer today's older a little bit below that again one day totals are not indicative but the general trend that we're seeing here is trending in a downward trajectory as a percentage of positive we expect that downward trend to continue as we continue to expand testing and as we continue to have to do more testing we're down a little bit yesterday and today a little bit of a lag from the weekend along with the little bit of a lack for commercial labs are reporting their segment of the reports but we do expect these numbers to to get back up in the in the range that we saw last week and continue to increase toward that initial goal of five thousand two hundred a day daily hospital census is reasonably unchanged from yesterday a hundred and forty four ICU patients four hundred a cumulative hospital patients that are coded positive or cobit suspected in our area health care systems and again this is generally flat if you take into account the added hospitals that came into our our system back at the beginning of the month moving on to the next chart you will see our four hundred coded patients in our hospitals of the bottom three thousand six hundred ninety four total hospitalizations in San Diego county and again you can see that relative to current bed capacity the dotted purple line at the top of funnel chart is just our cumulative stats five thousand one hundred and sixty one positive cases who were there are you see are estimated recovery at three thousand one hundred twenty four Cuman of hospitalizations with a doubling rate every thirty five days came out of ice use with the doubling rate of every forty one days and then we are reporting fifteen additional deaths today those are fifteen lives and and fifteen families who who have been struck by this and we extend our deepest condolences and sympathies to all of them and in deepest thoughts all their families are without it will turn over Dr Wilma Wooten for today's public health officers report.
