"AP sports I'm Josh rowntree. We start on the NBA where Memphis took a game over Dallas with multiple stars sidelined. Correspondent Robert Stevens has more. Desmond baines scored 23 points as the Memphis Grizzlies completed a two game sweep of the Dallas Mavericks, one O four 88. Naz played without Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving both injured while the grizzlies were again without John morant. Memphis coach Taylor Jenkins says his team up this defensive intensity in the second half. Come out of halftime with just a renewed energy and mentality. Hey, we got to raise our level both sides of the floor. We made a couple adjustments defensively that paid off for us, which got us going with our groove on offense. And obviously that third quarter kind of changed the game. David roddy and Dylan Brooks had 19 apiece from Memphis while Jaden hardy led the Mavs with 28. Josh green at 23. Bob Stevens Dallas. In Houston, the rockets knocked off the Celtics one 11 one O 9. And jabari Smith scored 24 to lead the young rockets, one of the best teams in the league, where it was in the finals last year, you know, just competing with him. You know, going down to the wire like that with a great team like that. It's just real promise in this room. It's really good for us. The bucks beat the kings one 33, one 24. Giannis Antetokounmpo poured in 46 in the win. The warriors took down the sun's one 23 one 12 behind 38 points from Klay Thompson, including 33 in the first half. On the ice, buffalo scored three third period goals rallying to beat Toronto four three. Alex tuck at the 30 goal mark with a pair in the final frame. We kind of got back to just trying to work and make simple plays and you know I just roll over one line after another after another and it makes a huge difference out there and big news in the opening day of NFL free agency. The Raiders reportedly filled their QB void by agreeing to terms with former 49er. Jimmy Garoppolo on a three year deal worth, 67 and a half $1 million. The bears are set to give linebacker tremaine Edmonds a four year $72 million contract and the Steelers are bringing on three time all pro corner Patrick Peterson for a two year deal. Guest Host Duane Patterson Talks Ukraine-Russia Trench Warfare

"To the news, shall we? New York Times piece today by Mark santora. This is what trench warfare on the front line is like. It is getting pretty grizzly in the standoff between Ukraine and Russia, especially around the areas of Russia that there's just no movement. The Ukrainians have been kind of surrounded a little bit by Russia except that over the weekend where there was going to be a collapse, apparently the Ukrainian side to dig in and fought back a little bit and now it looks like there is a little movement. The other direction. The Russian forces were so close that bogdan, a Ukrainian soldier with the 79th air assault brigade, Marc santor writes, could see them digging. Digging is what to do in this forlorn stretch of scorched earth in eastern Ukraine to avoid dying. Bogdan wants the Russians to die, so he lifted the shoulder fired rocket propelled grenade launcher peered over the sandbags mounted on the edge of his trench and blasted away the digging stopped. Moments later rush and soldiers let loose a volley of automatic gunfire, then things went silent. It's none of us were around our parents were around in many cases our grandparents weren't even around when it came to stories of what World War I was like. We've seen some movies over the years as to try to depict what World War I was like with trench warfare. This is probably as close as anything we've seen or resembled in the last hundred years. And

Goodwin did a lot of things that we talked about, keeping them out of transition, keeping out of the paint, and we did a really good job all the way around. So proud of our guys for winning the season series and more importantly, just getting another home went in front of a terrific home crowd. "grizzly" Discussed on The Crossover NBA Show with Chris Mannix

"A I'm just saying, I'm just saying it's a smaller place, right? It's one of the more remote NBA outposts and to leave New York City in previously San Francisco for a much smaller provincial NBA city. I just wonder. It's not an ideal situation, but it's going to be difficult for him to find an ideal situation considering the number of years left he has on his deal. I think that he seems so desperate to get out. He could do worse than landing on kind of like an up and coming team, and I don't think he cares about the public criticism, the fake rings talk or whatever. Too much, but I bet on some level it would be nice for him to go to a team where he could still be joining a good team, but he's still in a situation where he can put his stamp on things there. Still be kind of one of the leaders on the team, have an influence about how things are going to go. I think that would be cool. I think that I agree, it's not the biggest city, but from a basketball situation standpoint, I think it would be very difficult for him to find a better one. I do, oh, go ahead, John. Go ahead. No, I was going to say that I was going to say that, yeah, from a basketball perspective, I think it would be good for him. It's going to be good for him wherever he goes because he's an incredible player. Right. I want to play devil's advocate one more time here. Okay. For the grits. It's jaws team. You bring in Kevin Durant. It's maybe not automatically Kevin Durant's team, but you definitely go from you're the top dog, you're one of the young up and coming stars. You could very well be the face of the entire league soon enough because you're that good and you've shown that who knows what that next step looks like for jobs, right? Are we super excited about, you know, it's not like he goes to two. It's probably a one one a situation, but how do we feel about that? I will say it's interesting the thought did cross my mind, but I believe ja, didn't he give his most improved trophy to Desmond bane. He does see he did. He's literally he put it in Desmond's house. So I think he has shown to be a great teammate. I mean, obviously supported the team when he was injured, you know, still around. I think he's one of those guys that I think jaw could see the bigger picture. This KD topic, though, does make me want to throw a surprise email at you, John. Because this is now a continuing plot line. Last week, Elliott gold sent us the email, Tatum for KD straight up, who says no, Jeremy and I both said the Celtics probably say no. Elliot follows up. Okay, back to Katie for Tatum straight up. Maybe the Celtics have to say no because of narrative and optics. But if you switch Tatum and Katie for last year's finals, the Celtics are definitely better and probably beat the warriors, right? From a purely basketball standpoint, the subjects are a better team with Katie and Tatum's spot. You know, he's changing my mind a little bit on this one. Are we are we like going too far with the Tatum's gonna explode in the next 5 years? If the Celtics traded for Katie right now with just straight adjacent Tatum, wouldn't they be a better team next season? It's an interesting thought experiment, especially where he says, you know, if you had put Katie in the Tatum spot. A little bit. He has a point. He has a point because you're right. In a vacuum, that's probably a better team, right? However, it's not a vacuum. And I don't know what the ceiling is for Tatum. I do know that he's very, very young, and incredibly talented, and that team works as currently comprised. So I think when you're factoring in the age component and the fact that you just got to the finals and okay, yeah, it didn't come out the way that you were expecting or hoping against the warriors, but sky's the limit for that team, you know, without having to do that, it would give me pause, right? He's also your guy. You drafted him. Yeah. I mean, he's a Celtic and those guys who are that good that are homegrown, it takes some undoing. It takes some thought before you go, okay. We're going to move on from even for somebody as an incredible as KD. Now, what I still do it, it's KD, right? It goes back to what we talked about earlier. And almost every scenario, I'm probably pulling the trigger even though in that specific instance, that would hurt. Yeah, it would be crazy if a team passed up on Tatum in the draft if you think about how good he is now. Let us move on to the schedule release that happened last week. First of all, just to really absurd long drawn out process between all the leaks and blah blah blah, it was like 6 days of NBA games trickling out and it's like the jazz are playing whatever on November 22nd and it's like, what is going on here? Who is this benefiting? Why does anyone want this? I don't want to get into a sports meet a discussion about the schedule release, but yeah, they're going to release it all at once. "He left him in Minnesota, but I think any package has to start with two of Dylan Brooks, Desmond bane and jaren Jackson. I think you have to part ways with two of those guys. I think you tell the nets pick one of Jaron Jackson junior or Desmond baine and you get Dylan Brooks and whatever else we need to make the salaries match. And I think if you're the grizzlies, I think you do that trade. I really do, as great as jaren Jackson junior is, as much as I'm a fan of Desmond bane, shout out to Michael bean as profile about him. I think you make that trade if you're Memphis. I really do. Yeah, and I want to be clear. I mean, I really like triple J and I really like Desmond Bain. I like them both. I do not like them as much as Kevin Durant. We talked about this the last time before you went on your August sabbatical, like the rest of the NBA, where if you can get Kevin Durant for, I don't know, anything, right? No matter what that anything is, it's always going to be expensive. The answer is almost always in an every instance, yes, because he's Kevin Durant, so I understand why the grizzlies. They've got a young team. They were on the rise last year. They might not want to mess with the trajectory of their team. I understand that unplugging some of these younger guys might seem scary to them. But of course, triple J and Desmond bay and have to be on the table. And if you had to unload both of them for Kevin Durant, I would still do that because it's Kevin Durant. So I don't think, I don't think it's much of a thought experiment. I thought the tweet was sort of silly. I'm sure that that's the position that the grizzlies are taking with the nuts and whatever negotiations that they've undertaken so far. But to say that those two guys are off the table. Okay, then what are you sending, right? Get out of here. The other thing, though, I want to reverse engineer this. I think theoretically and on paper, it would be a wonderful landing spot for Kevin Durant, right? I really like the shape of the grizzlies. Obviously, ja took a massive step. Immediately makes them contenders in the west. If you're Kevin

"Do they have a guy like that? Do you think? Do you have somebody that they think is jaw the most likely? What do you think about that? Well, I mean, he's obviously the most likely. He's getting 25 points a game. He's an all star. That doesn't necessarily mean it's a different game. I don't think that it necessarily means it's a shoe in certainty thing because you get into the playoffs. It's a different. It's a different sport, as we've seen. I mean, I've been really impressed with job, but those things kind of linger as we'll see may be possibly because even great players have gotten. Can they win a playoff series, I guess, is the question. Can they win more than one playoff series? What do you think? Depending on the matchups, I guess. It'll be really fun to see. I mean, I'll be very curious. I do think it is funny sometimes. I remember watching the Mavs, and obviously I'm from Dallas, so I'm a bias. But the Mavs business company, ESPN, and all the panelists were like, oh yeah, I'd pick jaw over Luca and just like, all right, it does seem like sometimes the next thing, everyone gets very excited. The grizzlies are to the next thing. They've been a great story, but now it gets real. Now it gets real. Now, I was telling you, if I had to guess, they're either gonna see LeBron James in the first round or Luka Dončić. And that's gonna be hecka fun to watch, and I can't wait. Yeah, there's so many series that I would love to see. I would love to see Memphis Golden State. I'd love to see Memphis Phoenix. Any combination of those. But those are going to be big boy. Oh God, I said a cliche there. But those are going to be a real test to kind of level up and see. It's similar to the way OKC back in the early 2010s had to kind of had to kind of go through people beat the man to be the main type of a thing. Sharks what are you working on right now? I'm actually working on a duke piece. I think we'll probably talk about Paolo next week. I think it's time to have the Paolo banchero discussion. It's time to talk about Paolo van carrow, indeed, is it Ben Caro? I just butchered his name. Is that how you say it? I've heard so many I said Ben Cheryl for years and we're gonna have to take care of it. Next week. We'll arm that out. Yeah. We'll make sure that we're on top of that. And I have something coming up soon here about it's going to be a surprise. I'm not going to say what it is. It's a video though. So come on to the ringer dot com. Why would you not say what it is? "Single item at regular price can not be combined with any other offer. All right, so the Memphis Grizzlies are on a tear right now. They have been on a tear for the past little bit. They are 19 and 5 since December 1st. I went through, you know, we're not totally sure who the playoff teams are, but 15 of those against perceived playoff teams. Third in the west behind Golden State in Phoenix. What in the world is clicking for Memphis right now? I mean, everything, right? They're probably the biggest story in the NBA, I would think. And we figured we are a young players podcast pretty much all their success is powered by young players. So let's talk about their whole team. They're relevant to us. We'll be the 50th podcast talk about the grizzlies. Hopefully we can put our own unique spin on it. But yeah, they've been dominant. It's been interesting because they've had John one, then ja went out for a while. They still kept wanting. They're just winning almost regardless of who's out there. It's pretty incredible. What did you think about the conversations that I know we briefly touched on it? I know how I feel about this, but what did you think about the John morant? They played better with jot without jaw for that brief time. What did you make of that conversation? I think the important point to make is sometimes when a team elevates like this, we want to give all the success credit one player because we're such a star driven league. So it's easy to look at because I've always said the most relevant stats, it always comes back to points per game and wins and losses. So when you score a lot of points on a team that wins a lot of games, you get all the credit for it. And I don't necessarily think it means all that much that they won without job. So they were ten and two without them. What it tells you is it's not just jaw. This is a team wide rise. And I think if you're a Memphis fan, that's the most encouraging part, is that it isn't just one player. It's three and four and 5 young players all rolling together at the same time. That's a nice segue to something that's interesting about this Memphis group. Now we can go down the itemized player by player development discussion that I want to do that quickly, but something about their culture that you and I talked about that was interesting and relevant kind of jutting off of the cam reddish thing that's relevant is how they go about Memphis is a team that over the past few years has had some picks. They've used the picks pretty pretty phenomenally. I think we could agree on that. And what was it you texted me the other day about how they choose their personnel. What do you think just from afar? I don't have any more speculating about speculating about this. I don't know anything specific. What is it about they pick players do you think that's showing up in the product this soon? That's already working this soon. Is there anything that jumps out to you? I think when you look at the players they draft and I really do think sometimes we make things more complicated than they actually are. And what Memphis does really well is there's obviously this very long conversation that goes back to 20 years now. I test versus stats, analytics for scouts, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. But Memphis does, as they say, if you're a really good player, you should leave some kind of statistical impact on the game at the college level. It might not be the statistics that necessarily points rebounds, steals assists. But there should be some inkling on the court that you're impacting the game. And they're not just going to draft the guy based on his stats, but they're going to use stats to help themselves find players. So not to get too far down into a rabbit hole. But the guys like Brandon Clark, the Anthony Melton, Desmond Bain, these are all late first round picks early second round picks. They were all advanced stats darlings in college. And what they all had in common was they lacked the ideal physical dimensions that teams look for. Brandon Clark is 6 foot 8, really more of a center. The Anthony mountain's 6 foot two, more of a shooting guard. These don't necessarily fit your prototypical dimensions. Desmond. 6 foot four very short arms. So those guys lack the statistical things teams look for. What Memphis says not statistical. They like the physical traits. Memphis said, hey, yes, they might lack certain things, but they all suffer certain advantages that they have in the court. Clark phenomenal athlete. Desmond Bain phenomenal shooter. The Anthony mountain really, really smart player. And that allows them to have an impact on the game more than their physical tools might suggest. So we're just going to grab them. And I think what makes Memphis so interesting is you go up and down their roster. They have like 13 good players. 14 good players. It's that depth. When guys go out, they just keep rolling. And then there's guys like, John kancha. He was an advanced stats darling. He's a 6 foot 5 post player from where Fort Wayne or something. Fort Wayne. And he basically, if there was a guy who had crazy advanced stats numbers in college, but NBA scouts wrote him off. He probably wound up in Memphis. Yeah, I think that's very true. Now they do have a couple freaks. Darren Jackson junior was yet 6 11 with 7 foot 6 wingspan, ten inch hands, ten by ten inch hands. I mean, he's just a physical freak I want to talk more about him. But I think something else that I've noticed too is that there is a sort of commonality between these players and their ability to create disruption defensively. Now they're all like smart. I do think that they have a collection of pretty smart players in my opinion, but they have a lot of guys who can create disruption in the form of live ball turnovers. And we can see that because this is the number two in the league and deflections first and fast break points. And the other thing too, is that a lot of these players stylistically I've noticed that Memphis really embraces the middle game. They not just pull up jumpers, but they embrace the floater game. No team is shooting as many floaters as they do. Brandon Clark is incredible at it. John morant's incredible at it. They have a lot of guys who like to take that shot. But the defense is key. I think the floater thing is important. Here's why the photo thing is important. Because the Memphis lives at the intersection of guys who impact the game efficiently without ideal physical tools and that intersection exists, a lot of those guys use floaters because the floater allows you to play bigger than what you are. So I don't think that necessary target guys use floaters a lot. But if you use a floater, if you're not someone with ideal physical tools, you should probably have a floater in your game. And that's why Brandon Clark is a good example of the floater and how powerful it can be for an undersized big man..

"There and I know that Knox has struggled with confidence issues forever. I don't know whether or not he's going to be able to like flesh out with Atlanta or if they're even planning on keeping him. They may not be, do you expect the Knicks to get anything serious? Do you expect him to address their concerns at all in the short term or the relatively short term? I would say to double back, I wouldn't frame it as they're trading reddish for Knox. They're trading reddish for a future draft pick. And Knox is the best salary balancer. I don't necessarily think they're really looking at Knox as a potential piece for them in Atlanta. And I think you're right, they all went red. It is interesting reddish Knox and Zaire Williams, who the gross took at number ten this year's draft all went at number ten or I think Knox number 9 actually. But the reason that's going on is because at a certain point in the lottery, all the surefire picks are gone. And in the same spot in all three drafts, the teams are like, you know what? This is a very tall, athletic wing with a good jump shot, effort. Let's just take them now at some point the talent, let's just gamble on the talent and see what happens. And that's what all three teams have done. It'll be really interesting to see what happens with cam in New York because my big thing with cam is so the story is that cam went in Travis lank, the hawks GM talked about this to the media after the trade. He said, before the start of last this season, reddish said, I'd like a bigger role. And if I can't get one here, I would like to be traded. And then schlenk said, okay, and he immediately began trying to see, can I get a first round pick back for reddish? And this gets back into what I was saying about, I don't think the hawks could win this trade. Because what happened was the hawks of rath at this very talented young player who was a very high opinion of himself, and who wants a bigger role. The problem is he's not earned one. And I think that is the camera's problem right now because if you're going to ask for a big old bigger role, you have to succeed in the role you're in now. Otherwise, it just doesn't make sense. And his three years in Atlanta, cam has never been a positive player. They've always been better with him off the floor than on the floor. And he's never been an efficient player. Where do you think he's hurting them though? Where do you think that the inefficiencies are coming from? Because I think that's the crux of the issue here. What's going on is he's taking a lot of shots and not making them, and he's gambling on defense constantly. It's a pretty basic stuff. And it's funny, right? You were saying in this era, maybe, but ultimately, the problem with camera, I just like, it's so simple, it's almost stupid. He takes a lot of shots and doesn't make them very efficient. Doesn't make a lot of them. And he gambles on defense constantly and doesn't justify his gambles. So then he goes into the hawks GM's office and says, I want a bigger role and he's schlank is like, well, why? I'm going to take away shots from Bogdanovich or Trae Young or Kevin herder. These are proven players who are better than you now. I'm going to give them a smaller role so you can because you think you're a top player will prove it on the court. And I think where I look at with cam, I would say the reverse, we're talking about these guys in the late lottery. What cam should be thinking of as miles bridges? And miles bridges, he's a guy who was drafted number 12 year before cam. Now in his fourth year, he might be an all star this year, and you look at his progression, he always succeeded in a smaller role. So the hornets kept giving him a bigger and bigger role every year. They said you are succeeding, we do believe in you. We're going to expand your role. Whereas cam is more, we know you have talent, so we'll give you a chance to play. But you're not really justifying getting a bigger role even though you want one. It's an interesting thing. Some of this is kind of like reading into who these people are just as people. What is ultimately, would it even have been the best thing for slink to give reddish that much? Give him that opportunity without proving it. Like you talked about. So it's like there's maybe a maturation thing going on. And maybe he's on this path. You said something interesting to me over text just about he's one of those two or three teams from now type guys. And he's in his early 20s still. What is he? 21, 22. 22, he's, it might take him a while to realize that. But I personally have more confidence in players who demonstrate what you were talking about. And that's something that comes up over and over again and I feel like on our draft discussions is when we look at. And I think it ties into the team that we're getting ready to talk about in the way that they evaluate. I'm really pointing my notebook like a head coach right now. But I'm going to roll it up like Joe B I think it might take a little while for reddish. I don't know that heading to, I don't know that heading to New York. I don't know that he's going to alleviate alleviate the issues and the concerns that they have in the short term. I could be totally wrong about that. One thing I will say about reddish is he's a big game player. We've seen him show up. I kind of have expected him to get traded during the off season..

"Folks, I can confirm to you that basketball indeed is very good and it's a chilly but a pleasant day to talk about it. My name is Jay Kyle Mann and welcome to upside high. The show where we zoom in on the youth movement in the NBA and the NBA draft, all the things that come before that, and I'm joined per usual by my co host, the lothario of the lone state, mister Jonathan sharks, sharks, how are you doing, buddy? I like that. Kyle, you've always got good vocab, so I appreciate it. Basketball is really good. I'm still recovering from my cowboys losing in the playoffs, so. Hate football. I'm not like an NFL person. I kind of like observed misery from afar, which was pretty amusing for me. I mean, just like the ubiquitousness of it across social media is just are you like a lifetime where you like one of those Emmitt Smith Troy Aikman did you cut your teeth on those cowboys teams or do you go that far back? For sure. I mean, I'm from Dallas, so I'll always support the cowboys, but I absolutely hate the team. And it's just a weird thing. They make you miserable, huh? For sure. You're obviously like a die hard longhorns guy too. So that's basketball is your first love, right? Definitely, yeah. Definitely. Well, today we're gonna be talking about a team and a player a couple players that got swapped. So the first thing that we're going to hit on is camera Edison, and then we're going to talk more about the grizzlies and their stars and things like that. But I want to talk about this reddish trade. I feel like it raised eyebrows more than this type of trade really. I don't know. I guess any time like a hot lottery picks get swapped for each other. At first, I kind of observed the reaction of Knicks fans was initially was elation, was that kind of what was your observation of the way this trade went down just off who did you think one just at a glance from a start? I don't think the winning framework is the right way to look at a trade like this, which we can get into. I just think that sometimes is kind of limiting, right? I think ultimately reddish was not going to work in Atlanta. So they had to trade him. And whether or not he worked somewhere else, it's almost immaterial to them. So I don't think they could necessarily win the trade, but they couldn't win having him around either. I think it's probably first off, let's talk about cam reddish a bit and why he's probably a bigger deal in a lot of basketball circles than maybe his NBA production might initially suggest. Well, he has been, first of all, I would want to say, too, that the Knicks, I think the Knicks initially felt like they got like it was a big time coup for them. I think, because they felt like they got rid of a guy that wasn't playing for God that is playing. But reddish, I think this ties into what you're talking about here is that reddish for a long time and we discussed some of this in like the ringer slack and we were talking. There's always talk about camera radish on Twitter all over the place. He has this like something something about his game about the way he looks about the way he's built about his gate that really allures people into his upside as a player. And yet going into that college season the 2018 19 season with Zion and RJ Barrett or is it 1718? I think it was 1819 now. But there was some thought that he was going to be like a top three pick that he was going to be like a really true that kind of special player. And some of his warts came out during that college season, some of the where did he actually end up going? I don't have that in front of me. He wasn't three. Yeah, okay. So they're both players picked at ten swap for each other. What do you think it is about him that is so alluring? Because it's definitely there. What is it about cam reddish that it's going to give people keep them taking chances on him? I love how you're acting like it's so mysterious. His feminine allure. It's really simple. He's freaking huge. He's 6 foot 8 two 20. So right there, that's one of the bigger wings in the league. He moves really, really well for a guy his size. I think that's more what it is. Less of the size. I think it's the second thing you said. Well, it's a combination of size and speed. And then he's got a good-looking jump shot. And then he was the exact same size at 18. And as usual, you did not really give the background, so I'll give it for the people. So the background is, cam reddish was seen as a top player in his high school class for a long time. Because he was so big, he was such a good shooter and he was so fluid. Everyone said, this guy's a future star. Everyone knew who he was at like 15 years old. And what happened was he commits to dupe first and he's thinking I'm gonna be the next Jayson Tatum, jabari Parker, Brandon Ingram, big star duke wing comes to top two pick. And then RJ Barrett and then Zion committed to duke as well. And when that happens, it pushes cam all the way down the pecking order to number three. And so then duke in that one year at duke, cam's playing off RJ and Zion, not really doing very much, very inconsistent, but then he has this flashes. It's like, man, he's so big, that jump shot looks so good. What happens when he puts it all together? Maybe in the NBA, it'll be the same. He'll get a bigger role. And then he'll really show his star potential. Everyone's always thought he's had. And then he gets to the NBA and basically the same thing happens again, where he's playing off Trae Young. He's behind Deandre hunter, who the hawks drafted in the same draft. And number four, and he's never really getting that lead role. And he's always kind of tantalizing. And that's kind of where he still is, like, four years later, is people see the talent and they're waiting for their production to come around. Yeah, it's interesting to go and read if you read like talent evaluators from the time you read. I think people were just seeing this upside of like you said, big wing fluid they expect him to kind of put it together. I kind of feel like he's maybe playing in the wrong era a little bit for like his body type, like he's he strikes me as somebody that if he had played like in the 2000s in the early 2000s, he probably would have, it would have been fine in a time when basketball was a little bit different, but it's interesting that we talked about Kevin Knox, being traded for him. Honestly, it's funny that Zaire Kevin Knox and reddish all three are like these big wings. Zayre's less skilled and reddish, but it's interesting that they all kind of similar challenges. They're very skinny. They're very tall, but creating for themselves off the bounce, and then expanding to anything beyond scoring for themselves has been like a challenge. Reddish though I think that we had some work done for us on the ringer about who what really are the Knicks getting in this situation. To me, I think that they're getting a more aggressive and more like hyper confident version of what Kevin Knox was, hypothetically, you know, like he's, he really is going to jump in.

"You have to do in the NBA, because teams can't take away everything. They're going to give you something. The grizzlies is really focused on trying to shut down the paint and they gave the Lakers looks from outside. Now they did a good job contesting those looks, by the way, their clothes outs were pretty on point. But still, the Lakers also missed those shots. They did not punish the grizzlies for their choices. So that's my master lock as well. It's the Lakers not hitting the shots that they got because that changes the whole game. That changes their demeanor. And part of me wants to master lock their effort, seeing the grizzlies out compete the Lakers out hustle, the Lakers, that certainly bothers me too, but there is part of that that's just human nature. When you're coming down and you're swinging the ball and you get an open look and you miss and then the other team comes down and they get in transition because they got off a rebound off of a missed shot and they score on you and then you come back down in the same thing and the same thing and the same thing and you go through 5 6 7 possessions of that and you're getting your butt kicked, it's hard to continue selling out and making the extra effort. That is just kind of human nature that's part of it, but again I think ultimately it all rolls up under not punishing the grizzlies for their choices by knocking down shots. And sometimes shooting, it's not a sticky stat. It's just not. There's ebbs and flows with it. It happens. Hopefully next game the Lakers will shoot better. But in this one, like we'd be talking about this game quite a bit differently if monk and Bradley shot the way they shot in previous games. If they shot even just average, this game was this whole game. Looks very, very different. So I think that the missed shots really added up and the Lakers weren't able to punish the grizzlies for their choices in this one. Yeah, it's a ripple effect. If you make more shots, there's less transition opportunities, less defensive rebounds, taking the ball out of the net, forcing the grizzlies to play more half court game. Helps out your defense. You probably get more stops and you stop them from scoring so many points. It's all a very intertwined. It's all very nuanced game. No. I just figured it out. And it's one of our super chats. We are master locking the wrong thing. This comes from Zach Mustafa in a super chat, said I was there tonight. I was there when Phoenix kicked us out of the playoffs. I was there in person for another Phoenix blowout. Sorry guys. This one is on me. Come on. Zach Mustafa, you should by now you should have known better. Come on, Zach. He's got to get the master lock. That's what happens. That's why they missed all the shots. Zach, you got to take one for the team..

"It's a Boston Celtic, I don't care if it's a clipper. No. You don't wish injury on anybody on any of these players. That's just these are real people guys. Yeah, that's just to me that's just a line that you don't cross. And then but then from there, as far as as the other piece which Schroeder has been the better option, when you add in contracts, sure, like 6 million for shorter versus 44 for Russ. Okay. But I also understand why the Lakers did what they did in making the move. It just hasn't quite worked out the way they hoped it would. I don't know if I want to say this out loud, but I think that's probably true. Okay. Well, well, look at it. Okay, I get it, and this feels so gross saying it. But defensively, who would you take right now? Schroeder or Russ? I'll be honest, I haven't watched a lot of shooters defense this season. I'm sure Celtics fans would tell me a little bit more. But you've seen a lot of Russ. I've seen a lot of Ross. I mean, based on what we saw from shooter last season, at least he's more of kind of a high effort guy on the defensive end, even if the efficiency isn't always there. So defensively, I think you probably give the nod to Schurter. He's a little bit more willing to sell out. Although, you know what? Russ is a force on the defensive glass. Russ helps you out quite a bit there, especially when the Lakers are playing small. Yeah. Right. I mean, the fact that you're debating it says something. But I don't think it's like an easy, definitely Dennis Schroeder. Spot. No, I think the contract part is really, because if you're told me I can get shooter for 6 mil, then I consider this a lot more. But if you told me that we were supposed to reassign them for the number he was asking for, absolutely not. Right. Yeah..

"How down you are on Anthony Davis. He is definitely a top ten talent in my eyes for sure. You're not going to move me off of that position at all. Has he been a top ten player when he's been healthy? No, not necessarily, but I know what Anthony Davis can look like when he's at his best. And that player does not grow on trees. So I am going to keep him. And I think I've made this point before, but given that he is a superstar level player, his contract is very team friendly going forward. There's literally no reason to trade him right now. And if you do trade him now, his point, his value is probably at its lowest. So if you're really intent on trading Anthony Davis, and I am not by any stretch. But if it came out that said the Lakers are looking to trade Anthony Davis, that is not going to come for the next couple of years when he's healthy and he's played well on the floor. And then they can get some legitimate pieces for him. A haul, something like, I don't know, Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, Josh hart. Right. That's the kind of haul I'd want from Anthony Davis if I'm being honest. But that's not happening anytime soon. So I am not moving off AD at all. It's a nonstarter for me. I hang up the phone so fast. And I probably block your number. Somebody somebody's been on your Instagram. They said Matt plays better than AD. Hey. That's not true, but I appreciate the comment. And then I hit open three, so I actually better than rusty. Oh, ouch. Senpai NFT said THT and none for roko Robert Covington and Snell. Russ for literally anyone. I firmly believe we're just flat out better with any 3D guard on the floor instead. Robert Covington hasn't had. If he's at his best, okay, but he hasn't had. That's just another name, though, yeah. He hasn't been great. Yeah. I don't know. Like I'm fairly optimistic based on what we've seen the last few games from THT. There's a little bit more confidence in him. Yeah. I'm not saying that if the right offer comes along, you just refuse to trade him again. But I think that what we've seen in the last and this could go away quickly, but the last three games we have seen the THT that we kind of expected to see this season after a month of seeing this shell of the guy that we thought that he was going to be. And we saw him for three games right after he came back from injury. He was great. And then he disappeared for like a month now. We've got three games of relatively good THT. I'm hoping this can continue, but we'll see where this goes from here. The Lakers play the kings on Wednesday if THT has a bad game. I'm going to go ahead and imagine that everyone is going to say, you know what THT is bad, trade all this goodwill is going to disappear just like that. Yes. Oh yeah, it's like we said before coming on. We're talking about fans who are going to be upset from this game..

"Though this season is not as good as last season or 2019 2020, we're sticking with the Lakers because we have faith and we should all have faith. There we go. That's a great comment. Yeah, I like that. I like that. Was that you? No. No. That was Matt's burner. That's my burner. No, you know, it's been great. The four game winning shit was awesome because, you know, prior to that, it was just a bunch of comments and DMs or a reprising, things like Lakers are bad. There's no way they're going to be successful, blah, blah, blah, but then as they keep winning, it's like, oh, tuning into the show. The Lakers are playing great. I appreciate the good work. I feel like the Lakers win the comments are a lot better. Yeah. So if anything I'm rooting for wins now, just so my inbox isn't on fire. I've got Justin Hartford said it's tough to watch this team get pick and roll to death. Every playoff team has the personnel to attack us like this, but AD should be able to help. Yeah, I mean, it depends on what version of Anthony Davis, you get. But regardless, you do get obviously quite a bit of benefit. The Lakers defensive rating has not been anywhere close to where it was when Anthony Davis was on the floor. He turns out shooting before the game wearing a knee brace. We are expecting some sort of a reevaluation in the next week ish on AD hopefully the Lakers will tell us what happens there and it's not like Kendrick nunn where everybody's just kind of in the dark on it. By the way, he should be back soon as well. Sometime this month anyway, maybe in the next week or two, we'll find out. But AD, we're waiting for news on. I do think that ultimately with him in there that does fix some problems, I mean, getting her second best player back is going to fix pretty decent amount of problems. And I feel like the Lakers small ball units that we've been seeing so far are only going to look better once Anthony Davis is back. Just imagine something out the Dwight minutes tonight with Anthony Davis instead. And you've got a pretty, you've got a pretty good rotation going. Jason Kelly said, this team, even with AD, it's easily swept by the grizzly. So right now, by the way, in terms of the standings, this loss probably takes the fourth seat out of place. No, there's a long way to go. So I don't want to say it's impossible. But most likely, the grizzlies now have a really solid hold on the foresee. The one two three seem to be pretty solidified. You're gonna have in some order. It's gonna be Phoenix Utah and gold stain in the one two three. The grizzlies seem to be in a kind of a class of their own at the four seat. And now the Lakers are kind of in this mix of 5 through like 8 or 9 or so teams, right? That are in there. So if the Lakers get the 5 seed, we could see Lakers grizzlies round one, how would you feel about that? Be pretty nervous, honestly..

"Don't want him to see the chaos of a tie. But yeah. Back to our schedule a regular schedule programming. Yeah, no, the point about being upset that Lakers didn't meet the grizzlies competitive threshold, totally fair. I thought. But I think the thing I was most annoyed about was that Desmond Bain got LeBron talking a little bit. There was a lot of back and forth between the two. And usually when that happens, you see LeBron go nuclear or take it personally, which I thought he did. But generally the team follows suit. And it didn't really seem like they were on the bandwagon. Because at that point, there were already down 20. I think it was that sequence right before. So Desmond Bain and LeBron were talking a little bit, and then LeBron took the ball went down and through a poster over Jared Jackson. I thought that was going to be the moment where the team was like, okay, time to start battling back a little bit, but that wasn't really the case. So at that point to me, that's where I was like, oh, I don't think they really have it tonight as a roster outside of LeBron. Well, and that's where you get guys like Malik monk thrives off of his maid shots. Avery about the Avery Bradley should be a high level defender regardless, but he also picks it up when he's hitting shots. And we didn't see that. And so guys, they're not seeing the ball go in the basket, and they're getting scored on the other end and the energy level just starts to drop, whereas LeBron's trying to pick everybody up and go with them, but he can't carry the entire team. And he was tremendous. He's easily easily the 360 award again. He was fantastic. I mean, that's also the downside here is did we just see the Lakers waste another great LeBron performance? Yes. Yeah. Yes, yes. And yes. I feel like if anyone had played close to their average level, this would have been a much closer gay. We might even be talking about a Lakers win. But we are unfortunately not. So the Lakers are no longer undefeated in 2022, Trevor, according to my sources. I was hoping they were going to go the whole year without taking a loss. Let's talk about Russell Westbrook. Let's talk about two for 12 shooting. Jeez, 7 board 6 assists. No turnovers. What second is it the second time in three games? I think that he's done that. He said, what do you turnover in the last three games? Trevor, if you had to put money on that before, after the last game, if someone said how many games is Trevor, does Russell Westbrook have zero return over the rest of the year? Would you have put money on that? I wouldn't have. If I would, I would be a very rich man because I would imagine the odds on that would be astronomical, but.

"Lakers nation welcome in mid here, guys. We're keeping an eye on what's going on between the cards and the Raiders. The kick was upright as we started the show there. Tie game. You know Matt the optimist Peralta and I optimist. Optimism prime, we are rooting for rooting for chaos here and hopefully a tie between the Raiders and the Chargers. If nothing just to make our colleague, Ryan ward, sweat a little bit. But in basketball news, the Lakers did not have a great performance against Memphis courageous. We're going to break down that game with you guys here tonight so if you're coming in from YouTube from Facebook from Twitter, welcome in. We've got a lot of stuff to discuss from this one. John morant. Another solid performance did play. I think grizzlies tried to pull the whole well, maybe he's kinda hurt. He might not play. They rested him against the clippers yesterday. Of course, they're always going to play him against the Lakers, but the win streak is snapped. LeBron did a lot, a lot of other guys, not so much. Matt, how are you doing man? How's your focus right now? It's admittedly very split, Trevor. It's been a crazy sports day for I think every fan base. I know NFL week 18. It's been a pretty eventful day given all the playoff implications. But we are the Lakers nation, postgame show, and so we will focus on basketball for now. And I would like to point out before we say anything else about the Lakers game is that the final score was not very indicative of how the night went. That fourth quarter run by the Lakers reserves, which I'm sure we'll talk about in a little bit was nothing short of amazing really. I don't think anyone would have predicted a 21 zero run. But for basically three and a half quarters, the Lakers were getting their butts handed to by the grizzlies who I think at this point, I think people are starting to come around and realize that they are not just a feel good story anymore..

"You're hoping that he could return some of that value and continue to find a way to start knocking out threes again with being likely the third or fourth option on any given night. So yeah, I think you have to make that move. That tends to be what happens with players, right? When we see a player come into a team where they are, they go from being the first option on say a bad team, and they go to become the say third or fourth option or whatever it is on the team that at least has championship aspirations. I don't hesitate to call the Lakers a good team because we haven't seen that this season. But if you have a guy like Jeremy grant, who goes from being the first option to being the third option, maybe the fourth option, depending on what the lineup is, right? What usually see happen is you see the usage go down, the volume go down, so the number of tips go down, but the percentage will go up because the quality of looks is going to increase. They're going to be more selective with their shots, whereas on the team where they're the number one option, they're being asked to take a lot of bailout shots. Hey, shot clock's winding down. Well, you're our guy. So here's the ball. Go shoot it. Those are percentage killers. So you don't get as many of those. And so you see the efficiency come up. I think that's what we would see out of Jeremy grant. If the Lakers traded for him and you're expecting him to be a 20 point per game scorer, you'd probably be disappointed. But 15 ish points with good defense and helping you out on the glass and doing all those things the Lakers need. I think he could very easily give you that. Yeah, and again, going back to that year in OKC, the average 5 rebounds a game. And that's us a fourth option. I'm taking that along with again, the good three point shooting in solid to good perimeter defense. And then, oh boy, I mean, you could put him in a lineup with a him and liable LeBron and AD because I'm so sweet. That AD, the Lakers played as to play 80 at the 5. And I mean, that's what they want to do. And now I've said in other breakdowns, it baby gets dragged out to the perimeter. Now you have guys like whether if you do get Jeremy grant LeBron and other guys that they have that can rebound and not give up several offensive rebounds on one possession. Yes. Yes. I've got to come here Westbrook has been doing this this whole career. You haven't been paying attention, it's different when you're watching it every single night..

"If he's shooting his regular jump shot I mean, how often does LeBron kick his leg out unless as a fadeaway jumper? So yeah, I personally thought that that was about a national study. And that was an important one. An important one down the stretch. All right, obviously the 360 award. The 360 award, it's got to go to LeBron. This was, again, this was a phenomenal game from LeBron James. 37 points, 13 boards, 7 assists, unbelievable two steals, two blocks, 8 of 14 from three. It just makes you shake your head because this was a game that LeBron felt like LeBron brought the win and the other guys just could not do enough to secure it. So frustrating certainly for that one, but LeBron was absolutely fantastic tonight. Yeah, and I mean, they just need one came on late, but think he told me around third quarter is going to be a game where can the other guy step up and the Lakers just didn't have that second guy that could take some of the scoring pressure off of LeBron outside of link monk who I mean the second half really came a lot of for him, but seeks straight game of 30 points. This is his 8th game in the month of December with 30 plus points. I mean, not if I'm sorry. It's just ridiculous. He has been absolutely phenomenal, incredible stuff. And so hopefully, hopefully, the Lakers can get some guys back and have some pieces to put around him and get some wins. That's the other thing. Big picture. When we look at this, this is another loss that frankly shouldn't have happened. They were up by 13 with two 25 to play in the third quarter. That run and by the end of the third quarter, they were only up 5. That is essentially where the game was lost. Was that stretch right there lost them the game and that gave the grizzlies all the momentum heading into the fourth quarter and they took and just ran with it from there. But this is another game. And there's been a bunch of them that the Lakers probably shouldn't have lost. And I'm not saying the grizzlies are a team the Lakers just should beat. The linkers have lost some of those games, lost to OKC. It seems like that. The grizzlies are a good team. But this was a game that they should have won based on the way the game was going. And then they shot themselves in the foot again. They tripped on the one yard line and could not manage to get the job done, especially again, at the end of the third quarter. And what that means big picture is that your margin for error is all but gone at this point. If you're the Lakers, your margin for error is gone, you're going to have a tough second half of the schedule. You've got a much more difficult schedule. As we head into 2022, and if they continue to do this, choke away games, find ways to lose the games that they really should win, that's going to be a big, big problem..

"Not a pleasant night, falling to the grizzlies lost by 5 and at one point the Lakers were up 13. This was a meltdown, picking the fourth quarter also at the end of the third quarter. Things got sloppy at the end of the game and the Lakers unfortunately found a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, joining me to help break it down is Sean Davis. Sean, how are you doing, man? Not good after that loss. Up 13 late and they go to mellow at the 5 to try to go into the fourth quarter. So not good after seeing that. Yeah, carmela Anthony will have plenty to say about him tonight. He did not have it. And look, part of this, I think on the season come right away Anthony has been overall good. I mean, he's shooting 40% from three. He's arguably the team's best shooter. He's brought some positive things. And we knew defensively there were going to be some concerns, but tonight it felt like his legs just weren't there. He just didn't have it and maybe on the second night of a back to back, that's to be expected. Back to back on the road no less, but still two for 11 from the field, two turnovers, one for 8 from three for mello. He did not. He would he looked sloppy, follow it all over himself on a number of different plays. Couldn't get a hold of the basketball a couple of times. It was bad from Carmelo Anthony and the minutes with him at the center position simply did not work and that left a lot of Lakers fans wonder why didn't the Lakers just go back to Dwight Howard who was at least fairly productive and therefore you who's a plus 17. Team high plus 17 on the night and you had the only played 16 minutes and we didn't see him in the fourth quarter at all. So that was certainly a bit of frustration, but LeBron James. 37 points, 13 board 7 to 6 two steals two blocks, 8 of 14 from three. Incredible performance from him. And that almost makes it feel a little bit worse. Because the Lakers kind of that kind of they wasted a great performance from LeBron James. They've wasted a lot of them recently. LeBron scored 30 points in each of the last 6 games and only somehow one one of those 6 games, like get it, you dealt with a lot of players being on the safety protocols list, but lose by 28 to the spurs, if you lose by 18 to the sign to blow elite, I believe to the bulls, just you've wasted a lot of really good LeBron performances as of late. Somebody mentioned in a super chat THT is useless, and Taylor Horton Tucker, another poor performance from him. He four points, two of 7 shooting 5 boards to assist. That was another questionable decision. Why was Taylor and Tucker in the game? And I look there roster is thin right now. They don't have many guys to turn.
