"Since Apple does not say how many of what it sells anymore, one can not officially say that iPhone crushed it last quarter. I mean one can say that in terms of revenue, but not in terms of units sold. Not officially. Unofficially though iPhone crushed it last quarter. That is according to one set of numbers from IDC and another set from counterpoint research, both highlighted by cult of Mac. IDC had apple shipping 84.9 million iPhones over the holiday quarter, counterpoint puts that number at 81.5 million. While the firm's disagree on exact numbers, they do agree on a couple of things first, they both say iPhone shipments slipped a bit from the same quarter a year earlier, and second, they still came out on top by a whole heck of a lot. Running down the IDC top 5 that was Apple in first, Samsung second, Xiaomi third oppo and fourth and vivo rounding out the top 5. As for the counterpoint top 5, same again, Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, oppo and vivo. For the full year, counterpoint flips the first and second spots, giving the units shipped crown the Samsung for all of 2021. And again, as cult of Mac points out, Apple doesn't try to compete in some of the product categories its rival does especially very low cost handsets. While apple's tablet kind of tanked last quarter, even a droopy iPad is enough to win the market. Apple insider has more numbers from IDC, these covering the tablet space and the December quarter. The piece has the firm indicating that Apple was still far in front of other producers in terms of shipments, and it's dropping units wasn't as bad as other major vendors. According to IDC, Apple shipped 17.5 million iPads in the December quarter, that was down 8 and a half percent from the 19.1 million shipped in the same quarter a year earlier. Others did worse with Samsung tablet shipments dropping 21 and a half percent year over year, Lenovo dropping 25 and a half percent. And Huawei dropping just under 14%. Props to Amazon for being the only tablet maker tracked by IDC to increase shipments. There's were up 1.3% year over year. As for market share for tablets in December quarter, Apple was way far ahead with 38% market share. Samsung was second with 15.9%, Lenovo was third with 10% Amazon was fourth with 7.9%, and Huawei rounded out the top 5 with 5.5%. As for the future of the tablet space, IDC is quoted as saying, though 2021 was a great year for the tablet market, shipments have begun to decelerate as the market has moved past peak demand across many geographies. However, shipments in the near future will remain above pre-pandemic levels as virtual learning, remote work, and media consumption remain priorities for users. Details today on the current Apple watch trade and bonus as part of apple's push for heart health during heart month, the company said earlier this week that it would offer extra savings and select countries for people training in an older Apple watch for a new one. Now we know how much and where. To next year $25 or the local equivalent, according to a piece from macros. That reports as the $25 Apple watch trade in credit is valid until the 28th of February in the U.S., Canada, the UK, Italy, Spain, Germany, and the UAE. Apple allows customers to trade in Apple watch models from series one through series 6, including Apple watch SE more information on apple's trade and program can be found on apple's site. News of an annoying update for Apple watch, annoying because we don't know why we need it. It was less than a week ago that Apple released watchOS 8.4 focused on bug fixes and security updates that one was now 9 to 5 max as apples out with watchOS 8 four one focused on bug fixes, minus the security. A visit to apple's security updates page has the update has no published common vulnerabilities and exposures and trees. As for what it does do, apple's release note say, watchOS 8 four one includes bug fixes for Apple watch series four and later for information on the security content of the Apple software updates, please visit this website with a link to the security updates page. Kind of a funny joke that's as mentioned a moment ago that security updates page says the update has no published CVE entries. The update is free. It is available now for Apple watch series four or later through the watch app on an associated iPhone. Supposition around what the heck happened a grinder in China. Yesterday we heard that the LGBTQ dating app was out of apple's App Store in China, as well as Android app stores run by the likes of Tencent and Huawei. We also heard that it wasn't the app stores that had pulled the app. At least not in apple's case. But it was grinder's parent company that had initiated the removal. What we did not hear was why though at least one site says it has to do with a relatively recent law in China. Apple insider cites an N gadget piece that says the issue may be tied to China's restrictive new personal information protection law. According to the peace, China passed the personal information protection or PIP, the world's strictest user data protection law in August of last year. The country has sent been using the PIP law in a monthlong Internet purification campaign around China's lunar new year. And gadget says that China's PIP requires that cross border data transfers go through China's cyberspace administration, Apple insider says homosexuality is not illegal in China, but the LGBTQ+ community faces continued pressures, including occasional censorship. It's likely that grindr users would not want their personal data seen by the Chinese authorities, but it isn't clear how much international traffic the dating app had. So that is the latest guess as to why grinder is gone in China. Seems the only party to have said anything publicly as Apple, having made it clear that it was grindr's parent company that pulled the app from the App Store, not Apple itself. Grinders parent company has not publicly commented on the reasons for its removal, according.

It was pretty crazy. I mean it's funny. How things can change so quickly. Because i mean i basically the chip lead from like i think eighty cash biscuit the chip lead from when the money head down to maybe like sixteen or seventeen and then all of a sudden. We're basically like there's twelve left. Eleven that them on the bubble. And it's like there's and on my table. It's me burkey Vlad was was a turning rag Another attorney rag. Maybe two hands later. I mean it was just it was just wild. It was like he basically just like would randomly go and pre flop for any amount and he would call any amount like it was actually kinda gross. Because with like five left's i think I was five or five. And i had like seventeen blinds. Ali opens the cutoff and have an incredibly easy region with sixes on the button. But i'm man like obviously this is just like a amazing spot but this guy might call with jack antonoff from big blind like he's stole the chip lead end up getting through and didn't really face any. Sarah Alcorn on her podcast "Ivy League Murders"

"Of cambridge. And it's a super liberal bastion and growing up. I think part of part of what motivated us to do this. We really grew up in with harvard in our backyard. You know harvard square was our hangout places teens and so but i think for a lot of people the ivy league. Is you know as exotic as a place like hawaii. So that's part of the reason why we put this together was to to our whole premises. Basically got somebody really intellectually intelligent but emotionally not so much and so we see that time and time again and not everybody went to i. D league at some of the victims are actually from the ivy league is also. We're really trying to explore crimes. Crimes academia crimes of crimes. We always think of privilege is being this bubble where things like that can't happen. So that's what we're looking into and we're trying to just take true crime to next level and put a little bit philosophy or history or literature in there too because it is ib leak. And that's our niche actually with the ivy league murders. Hey it's the same kind of mystique as white people so fascinated with celebrities. They wanna know what happens when they're not in front of the camera. We all these scandals people are drawn to it in with an ivy league schools at. You might see these captains of industry or tech giants or whatever. They may turn out to be. You know what's what's going on. When they're out of the hollow they're not immune from human frailties which are know mental illness and drugs and alcohol an obsession and love and sax and money and greed. And all those all the things that motivate people to to make the ultimately bad decision of murdering somebody else. Did you think that some of the people who have that kind of education just will say the killer obviously that they thought that there was some sort of an entitlement. We find that quite a lot. In in fact some of the subjects that we look at a for example thinking of dr grindr which is one of our episodes absolutely brilliant doctor and he perpetrated a ridiculous crime sloppiest crime in you know so it does go into my theory that some people could be. They can be very intelligent in certain categories and then just suck Committing crimes. Do think. There's a lot of like entitlement or hubris or whatever you wanna call it where they think like. I'm so much smarter than everybody in these blue collar. Cops will never be a the solve this crime and it's like dude. You know the you did a terrible job on the crime. Sorry you know varied sloppy. That's one thing. We like to look at There is there's a famous writer. Dominic dunn really was fascinated with crime in privilege and is a great quote. and i'm paraphrasing. Can't remember the exact quote but that people are more interested in seeing kings fall than peasants. Basically in that the kind of you know serfs or whatever the phrase is that he says. I just think it applies to this as well because i think the presumption is when you go to an ivy league. Everything's perfect after that right. You make six figures year. "Hard. It's really hard sky sky off for those who didn't get the reference. We used to watch the Kardashians like cuz it would constantly play on the E channel and like there would be no transition between episodes. So but just this constant wage, Background noise and one of the things we picked up on is that Chloe with always like Gaslight Scott, so she'd be like skying. Why aren't you paying attention to me? Scott leave me alone. Like like just import we must have like driven like everybody in that fucking doorman the same cuz like we would do multiple Impressions like we were we clown it's okay. It's great to be a clown sometimes but we wanted to just kind of share, you know with the challenges of dating in the lgbtq community because it's hard and and I know that we kind of just said that already but it can be really hard to navigate and I would hope that you'd start out as off with some of your on the streets, you know, so I know from a very unique situation I've been dating the same guy for almost seven years. So very long time, you know, that price that you took a long time. Yeah, so I haven't dated in a very long time. But yeah in reference of you know being in a committed relationship Minaj You know unique challenges that brings with that and but I dunno hookup culture. So oh girl. Yeah personal talk to about you know games like the clear sex life. So yeah, cuz I I think I'm very familiar of that that thing to sorry Mom and Dad both of those LOL, but I would like to bring up a special something that's funny though. But it's a great. Yeah a nice thing to say, especially our straight allies. Oh girl. She loved my partner through a mutual friend. It was oh and the one of the biggest things she did felt that was a big No-No am having queer friends is that she loading pulled a you're gay. He's day. You guys will be a perfect match. Oh my God. I hate that cuz like I when I I've been in like several like work situations or like, you know School situations where it's like way you're gay. Oh, do you know my friend Alex? He's gay too. She's gay. You're both gay. You know what you two should meet with that's really great. You should like me and honestly, if you to like, know, just a bit like that would be great. You know, what you should do. Fuck my friend. My friend right in front of me. Trying to hook us up with each other just because we're both gay does not mean that is the only like that's Signed Sealed Delivered that set like we had our standards as well just like as heterosexual couples. Yeah. I worked with him like I don't want to like him. He doesn't he's in like me. Yeah obviously wage I guess the rest is history and seven years later. But yeah, you don't we don't do that though guys just because mine was successful or worked out doesn't me do that? Cuz I I was in a song. Vision for someone interviews to us and by the end of night. We were like in a cat fights. So how it would let not like a literal cat fight, you know Dad but it was just you know, we got to that point where it's like I have absolutely no interest in you whatsoever. And you're actually an asshole and I'm going to tell you how I feel like so yeah, I mean it can be hard like, you know, that's great that you're able to have that relationship. I get a lot. I have a hard time just because I have such a social awkwardness and you know, we're we're great friends where we can just you know, talk openly and laugh whatnot. But Mom comes to men it's like, you know, if if there is a guy that's like, you know what you're really cute and I want to go on a date with you and I want to get know you better. You know, some people were like, oh that's cute thing. What's wrong with you? Right? What are you hiding? Why don't you know, it's like it's like where's the yeah, but situation in there cuz I've had stuff where it's like, you know, I've connected with people and dead. This guy's like oh you're so great. And you're so nice. My husband's just going to love you. I'm like what and you know, yeah, no shade two people that are in an open relationship back in make that work. That's fine. But you know, that's not a dynamic. That's for me. I'm way to ADHD to do anything more than one guy at a time. Sorry, like sorry just not my thing, but it's that's usually what I'll do is I'll have people that are like already in a relationship that want to open it up and explore with me. I'm like, I'm not really been there done that. Yeah. No, I think people a lot every gay person gay couple is open relationship. And in fact that there are some that are off. I know many too many of them on Grindr so I know the exact yeah. Yeah. Yeah, that's that's where you'll find more like they're going to open relationship if that works for you. That's great that takes some wage. An extreme amount of trust and confidence in both yourself and your partner in order to pursue that so good on you for that but me chalk it up to me being too insecure to celebrate whatever. I just I'm not that's not for me. I think that if I'm going to be in a situation where I'm going to open that part of my life up to a third or or more person, I have to see you at least establish that monogamous connection first because I can't immediately go into a relationship and be like open doors. It's open season, whatever just wash your hands, you know off right right. I totally get that and I can sympathize with you know, especially when you're not considered a conventional good-looking game back biting my cheek shoe model gained. Oh, yeah, it's hard. It's very hard. Yeah, it's not they're saying people who are very good. Lucky don't have any Securities but dead. It's harder for people who don't look like that. Yeah, like me. I don't look like that Chinese or but.

TikTok reaches deal that would give Oracle oversight of U.S. operations

"And Tick Tock recently made headlines Everywhere when Resin Donald Trump signed an executive order. That would essentially ban the Chinese owned APP in the US for national security reasons. Unless it sells its operations here to an American company. And of course, if that were to happen. We would have nowhere to go to see a million potatoes singing. To Adele. And that would be a national tragedy. This week deal actually emerged between TIKTOK and American company Oracle but some people like Zachary say trump's tiktok policy effectively changes. Nothing. The argument goes like this. It will do little to protect Americans data from the Chinese government because there are still plenty of other ways China could get that data that this move is just a new kind of security theater basically. The hard work of data security according to this actually lies elsewhere. So, Zachary TIKTOK has been banned in Indiana a few other countries, but it's still pretty popular for now it's the most popular video sharing app i. can see why it seems like fun and there are mental creative. They're short I mean the whole nature of the medium has their time limited. What happened with Tiktok this week what happened this week? Should be clear but isn't. Basically, in August, the trump administration ordered via executive order whose legality remains highly questionable that the Chinese owner of Tiktok, a company called Bite Dance. Divest itself of Owning Tiktok within ninety days or face the prospect that tiktok would be shut down in the United States. I broke the deal I said you can't do business in the United States, which is at least potentially within the power of the US federal government based on national security concerns based on national security and the logistics are complicated that you probably could order apple and other people and servers that are hosting tiktok. that. They couldn't do it and it would defacto make it impossible for Tiktok to function. So that is what began a process where the owner of Tiktok, again, a Chinese company sought an alternative way to their cell, the US portion of Tiktok or what ended up happening major deals Rocking Wall Street this morning pushing futures higher. We find an American technology partner Oracle beat Microsoft and become the technology partner for TIC TACS US operations although will not. receive its coveted algorithm so that all took talks data would be kept in the United States on servers owned by an American company and not by Chinese company because the whole point of this was that all these people using Tiktok, these tens of millions, hundreds of millions that data was potentially vulnerable to being used and therefore misused by the Chinese government. How so So the fear was because technology companies in China by Chinese law are required if. By the Chinese government to turn over data relevant data that the Chinese government could tell the parent company of Tiktok, hand us all of your user data which user data of again tens of millions of Americans. and. Then China would have that data. So that was the concern right and and that's a legitimate fact the Chinese government could order that. The problem is, of course, one via our court system, an American court can order or prosecutor can subpoena data. From our companies. So it's not like what you and I do on Google or what we do on any technology provider is somehow. Unavailable. To government if government decides that it's in its interest to get it not to mention the the various many non-government actors, the vacuum, the stuff up and use it for their own purposes that is even more important I think probably more relevant to the China issue which is. Does it matter whether the data is in this case, potentially house by Oracle massive US hardware and software company versus being housed by servers in China. In terms of the ability of the Chinese government to obtain that data, it wanted to obtain it because not just third parties that hoover up data and use it in the whole buying selling and the data market, but just spying tools. Whether it's the NSA in the National Security Agency in the United States or various Israeli cybersecurity and or cyber spying companies or the Chinese government. Most of this data isn't that secure. Not. Like. Triple encrypted quantum encrypted defense department level communications. So likely true that if the Chinese government really wanted my teens Tiktok data, it doesn't really matter whether that data's House on servers in China owned by Chinese company or whether it was housed on American servers on buying American company. So I guess, then how do we get to this point? How did you know given what you just said why has this become such a big issue? How did it start? Yeah it's a good question I I'm not sure. There's a precise answer. It's part of a whole continuum of the trump administration in particular identifying China as a proximate threat to the United States and a whole series of ways competitively in terms of trade practices hence the hundreds of billions of dollars of Chinese imported goods that have been subject to American tariffs. It's part of a multi year campaign against this massive Chinese telecom equipment company called Wa wa, which has been a leader in next generation five G. Telecom equipment in a way that again, some of the same concerns have existed which is. That the Chinese government would would use the production of that equipment as a way to spy on who met from purchase adequate. And Look a few years ago. There was a a forced sale of gay dating APP Grindr, which was also owned by a Chinese company, and so there was an earlier precedent of forcing a Chinese company to sell an American APP Social App. Because, of data concerns and finally, there's the fact that for years long predating the trump administration. China has not allowed American social media companies like facebook. To function in China. So there's the tit for tat. You know you don't let our social media functioning companies function there. Why should we let yours function here? There's Several year campaign against China which the trump administration's pursued but I think has a good deal of democratic support I. Mean if it's close to a bipartisan sentiment that China, China's a threat as anything we have right now. Why Tiktok? Suddenly became a thing I may partly have to do with the fact that it suddenly became a very big deal in the United States. I mean, this was not a company that had any footprint several years ago and suddenly as. The APP does your so it may have had to do with something that got really big and is very noticeable. Salsa not that economically important. So a lot of people would be royally pissed off Tiktok were banned. It's not like tiktok is. An integral component. To the US economy either during covid or without covid. So it's an easier target. We'll be right back. Where does the national security aspect of it come in? Is it because there's concern about people who worked at the Defense Department or the military whoever having to talk in in use in their households or people in the Defense Department are not allowed to use tiktok certainly not on their phones. For before this although they may have teenagers who That's vulnerability as well. So it wasn't primarily about like US government employees who might have sensitive data that tiktok would be the back door way that the Chinese government would spy on them but it was generalized sense of any foreign government that is using private American citizen data potentially for nefarious purposes represents a national security threat. Now, it clearly has not represented the kind of national security threat in the estimation of the White House right now when it's Russian. Manipulation of social media accounts the same principle should or would apply right. If you'RE GONNA ban, Tiktok you'd probably want to take action against the a variety of Russian media enterprises that are attempting to manipulate and hoover up American user data. Some of that data's you mentioned earlier in terms of third party is available to anybody for a price just because there's a marketplace for data. Which I think either most of us aren't aware of or frankly most probably don't care if politicos data on this podcast gets sold to fourteen vendors so that it can sell you and me products based on our other computer activity most people. Either like that, or don't care about that. But the national security concern is simply because it's a foreign government that could potentially. Use, our search history or browsing history nefarious. And again a, that might be true but be it's likely that all this kind of data is obtainable irrespective of whether or not a company called TIKTOK. Happens to have access to a lot of it. It's really interesting. So into this whole story comes oracle, you know huge hardware software firm but how did they get involved here? Yes. Oracle is is a multibillion dollar firm that has had the same public profile as Microsoft or Amazon or facebook or apple because most of its business is to other large companies, you know you and I don't tend to go out and buy Oracle piece of hardware because we don't need a hundred and fifty thousand dollars server or. Network system for our employees. They're largely corporate provider throw a huge provider to the Defense Department in terms of cheer equipment and material, and they're huge software company. They're one of the early Silicon Valley success stories and the billionaire founder Larry Ellison has been probably more conservative than not I don't know that I buy into the whole. This is a reward versus. A snub to the other potential main acquirer or partner for Tiktok, which was rumored to be Microsoft but this is an unusual. This doesn't usually fit oracle's business model. Well, that's that's interesting. So what is their interest in getting involved here perceived to be I'm not one hundred percent clear about that I mean look at could allow them to. Have a little bit more of a consumer facing brand. Again, I mean Oracle's. Primarily a software company primarily a database company. Maybe this could help them increase their databases. There's no way that this is a natural fit for goal. But at the same time north this a huge cost for Oracle, maybe it'll produce some American jobs. I mean. They're looking for growth just like everybody's looking for growth, and once you get to be the size of Oracle. Growth gets harder some of they're also looking for a DIFFERENT INDUSTRY TO BE President Chore? So. What exactly did they given? What did they get here that as of this conversation is not one hundred percent clear off so it was presented as or go by tiktok. That is not the case or at least it's not the case now and as possible. The deal will be scuttled or change given that all of this has to be approved by the government has to be approved by committee. Called Syfy S, which is the committee in charge of looking at global deals in terms of US national security, but it would seem that right now. The parent company of Tiktok saw own TIKTOK and get some of the economic benefits of TIKTOK. This Chinese company called by dance and that Oracle in turn will get a massive licensing deal to house Tiktok data and information on its own. Servers and using its own software. So the concern that the Chinese government would have access to that data would be allayed meeting under this agreement arrangement because the data would be managed by and it's housing would be arranged by a US company. The Chinese government could order by dance to turn over but by dance itself wouldn't actually have access to that data. It's interesting I mean based on what you said before it's they're they're they're moving this data from place a, it's not going to be in a different place and I guess the Chinese government will no longer have a key to the door. But as you said before there's many different ways that either the Chinese government or a lot of other. State or private actors can get hold on more or less any data they want to these days right? which kind of raises the question for point of all, this is ENA. It's certainly true. It would make it a little more challenging to get that data under that kind of arrangement. It seems like this a big fight over a big company. That's not actually really about. The literal subject of the conflict here. Yeah. It is totally fair to say that whatever the imbroglio about tiktok has very little to do with tiktok. And everything to do with US policy toward China. And the trump administration looking for some High profile optic to be able to say we're we're being tough on China and protecting American citizens. Again, the oddity of Tiktok is given that so many of its users or young adults. Who Don't vote although who would be? Extremely, Acetate it. If they woke up tomorrow and there's no TIKTOK meeting, it's probably not. The most popular move if what you're trying to do is gain support during a presidential election. So it's not entirely clear what constituency the served there wasn't like a huge congressional clamor for Oh my God. We're all big imperilled by these fifteen second videos. So where do you think things go from here in terms of into in terms of the real story behind all this in terms of the U., S., China relationship and the increasing in. them of that. So I think to some degree regardless of who wins the presidential election. there. Is a train that's left the proverbial station of increasing. Distrust and animosity between the United States and China. But within the context of an incredible amount of economic interdependence that you cannot just snap your fingers and several or at least not without massive massive harm to each part of that equation both the United States and China, and that's that's pretty unprecedented. Right? Right. That's like the Cold War analogy doesn't work because there was no economic relationship between the United States and the Soviet Union nineteen. Fifty S

Trump not ready to OK TikTok deal, admits US won't get cut

"Basically, in August, the trump administration ordered via executive order whose legality remains highly questionable that the Chinese owner of Tiktok, a company called Bite Dance. Was this something that you dreamed of. It's completely by accident. The way it happened is I was a freelancer living in Brooklyn at the time working as a journalist for NBC News. And I was really struggling to make it as a writer you know. It doesn't pay a whole lot especially when you're just starting out and grinder of all places had just launched a new outlet and they were looking for columnists to rights new things. Get readers excited so I'm broke at the time and I'm like okay. I want to write something every single week so that I can make more checks basically nine. Oh wait a second. That is an equal. They may get on this kind of thing to do that. You're just like okay. I got I gotta get paid. Oh my God I love this okay and then what happened and then I was like okay but the problem is I can't think of a new thing to write about every single week. I don't trust myself to find a new subject. I don't WanNa think that hard. What do I do and then I was like wait. There's a kind of column out there where people bring the problem to you and they bring the subject to you. It's called an advice column and I was like cool. People write me letters. The gays never run out of drama. Always have something to write about. It will be fine and it originally started out as a spoof invest. I really thought I was going to be making a dear. Study reveals Tinder, Grindr, other dating apps share user data with brokers

"If you WanNa find love you need to have an open heart and if you're so inclined and open APP although it turns out got some of those apps are entirely to open. According to the Norwegian Consumer Council every time you use your phone a large number of shadowy entities gain access to to a treasure trove of your data in a new report released this week. The council found that ten popular APPs including the dating services grinder. Okay cupid and tender shared user data with dozens of third parties and that that personal information they shared was often deeply personal. Fin Mir side is the digital policy director for for the Norwegian Consumer Council. He oversaw the report. We reached him in Oslo misdemeanors dead. Just how worried should people be by the results of your study Eddie. I think we should be really worried. Because we've uncovered really pervasive tracking on our mobile phones at the same time we also uncovered that. It's hard for us. I do anything about it as an individual. What kind of information are we talking about? Really sensitive information like our sexual orientation seven or a religious belief or it's information that can reveal that kind of patient so that could be our location data which can reveal where we live where work where we spend our free time so so much information is being shared a directly and indirectly from our phones. We will narrow this down to dating APPs that people might have on their phones. And so what kinds of information and I guess privacy breaches have you found from people having dating apps on their phones. Yeah so it's the information that you actively give the APP for example one day thing out for you have to answer questionnaire such as what is your favorite cuddling position position or if you've ever used drugs and if so what kind of drugs so information that you'd probably like to keep private and then we've seen information that is collected elected in the background and that could be your contact list for example or your location so where you are at any given time and these are dating services people are familiar with at grinder. Okay cupid tinder isn't that by definition. They're supposed to be doing. I mean if you're meeting people you need to exchange an idea of who you are in in order to attract someone who has similar interests or or preferences or taste right so this. Isn't that exactly how these things are supposed to function. And I don't think anyone anyone has a problem but weren't covered is not only do shared with the APP that you're using but the APP is in turn sharing it with ten. Maybe hundreds of other companies that you've never heard of and you've never had the chance of finding out. Actually how's your data. There's a whole ecosystem of companies. Whose only living is to collect the data from all the different after using system? Only you're dating at this reporting on you but also other acts and under our companies in the background at are creating basically digital profiles else about who you are. What your preferences are what your vice is? Our an arbitrary of course is that people can become victims of manipulation a discrimination for example because these companies know so much about us and it's really hard trust to know anything about them. We're seeing this in all kinds of ways aren't we had people are having their voting preferences. Their purchasing choices influenced because these companies the collectively know so much about us right so this is an extension of that. I guess Oh no for sure and what we do know is that it's really easy from from the kind of data that we just talked about to figure out someone's mental stage for example if you retract my location over time in say I'm a moving and suddenly start moving less. That's a pretty decent indicator that I'm depressed. For example I especially combined with other indicators and so we see that it's really easy to to understand people's psychological profiles this data which of course interns makes us really affordable to all kinds of manipulation. How far does it does it move out? How many ripples is make because first of all the companies themselves the APPS are making making this information available and then those marketing companies do they then move on to sell that data even further yes potentially thousands of companies company each time of use enough to give you one example so we investigated one dating APP called Grinder and they have a partner quote mow pub which is owned by twitter? And when we check the privacy policy of Grinder Dave referred to the privacy policy of mope up and says you need to read the privacy policy of all our partners I am more public turned. Hot One hundred seventy different partners that they pretend to share data and just one of those partners had on four thousand different partners today it could share data with nearly the potential for sharing is more or less limitless when you speak of dating apps like grinder that caters to Ah Gay Clientele. What kind of danger might that actually present for people? If they're tracking their location people go to places to countries even where it's dangerous for for them to be having same sex relationships. So what vulnerabilities are there. I think that is probably the biggest foreign abilities so we found in our research that the fact that you had the APP was transmitted to many third-party so pretty good indication that you're gay or by for example an and obviously stuck together with your location. It's really easy to track down where you are So obviously this can put people's lives at risk. We know so far that twitter it her has suspended grinder from AD platforms while it investigates other groups like the the match group that owns okay. CUPID and tinder says it's working with outside the companies to assist with providing services and they don't share a specific user data only that which is deemed necessary for those services. So are are you saying that. They are responding to these concerns. I glad they are responding. But it's definitely far from enough because twitter. It claims to have partners fifty thousand different APPS so I think they need to look at their whole operation how they share data with third parties. And this says doesn't it. Another example of how people are under surveillance from the private sector in ways that we would never allow the government to have such surveillance on our lives but it seems that people don't really care that this price they're willing to pay in order to have these conveniences. Is that part of the issue. I I hear it a lot but research shows that people are really concerned about their privacy but when their left take it or leave a choices to being part of facebook or being a part of a dating service is what is their life right now. Considering potential future consequences is really really difficult. and and therefore It's what we call the privacy paradox. People feel that they have no choice so eh they sorta closer ice Guests so what we're trying to do is to to ensure that services have much more layered controls that's charing is off by default and so the people can be empowered again to make real choices assist because today it's just take it or give it them for most people that's not read in auction. There's no matter said good work and I appreciate what you've done and thanks for speaking with

She comes to you tells you this story I found out that my husband is not only pornographic videos without my knowledge, but it's gay pornography. My knowledge. Yeah. It sounds to me like her husband is gay because he's on Grindr. Grinder? He's doing things outside of this porn thing. The thing is is one thing. I've heard of people doing it like for money gay for pay. Yeah. If the price is right. They'll do it. But it sounds like he's got a lot more going on in the whole drugs. Turned me gay thing. That's that's not a thing. So I think the man is eternally struggling, and I didn't figure it out. And I think she may have to move on. I don't think that they're meant for each other. I think he wants boyfriend. I don't even I don't know about all that. I don't know about whether he is or isn't. I mean, whatever might be, but, but this level of betrayal like there's so many. Yeah. Drugs like potential exposure to all kinds of things like she has to break out with them. They cannot stay together. There's no way. There's no recovery. There's no there's no Caitlin disagrees. Like if she's watching gay porn than she's clearly into that. And if he's in. To watch..

"Koon's, attorney author of your perfect and other lies. Parents tell we're gonna talk about the true deadbeat dads. Mostly we talking about right now, though, we are talking about a story that's been in the press in Los Angeles regarding a local newscast here. We're going to discuss with the clinical director for the center for healthy sex, Alexandra cut, Hakkas, etc. Welcome. Thank you. So I'm gonna have sort of frame the story. So the audience can understand we're talking about today. Right. So we're talking about news anchor. Chris Burroughs who was from channel five here in Los Angeles. He had a colleague he would gone to work that morning, then he said he was sick. And on his way, home instead of going home. He went to a motel room and Glendale where he met with a companion and male male companion. Right. He's married with a daughter nine year old daughter on and they had he had met on Grindr. And I guess they had met maybe four or five times previously before there was a lot of methamphetamine. Mean involved. I'm they were inserting mcmath meth rocks in different parts of their bodies. And then there was like bondage mass hopper. Right. And he ended up probably vomiting and asked braiding or becoming unconscious by other means and dying and he was a well loved individual. I have taken the position that this is a terribly sad story on so many fronts. I mean, not the least which this man had to leave a live a pri- a sort of a secret life. So that's what we want to talk about is the secret lives of people live, and what motivates that or is there is there a general sort of psychological frame understanding this help us, Sandra? Well, I wish you I just think this is such a tragic story, and in my mind, of course, it's a story of addiction Jacobi, Tori of a secret life high level of compartmentalization. Meaning that he cannot know what he knows very adeptly is brain is very practiced at. Cordoning off these separate parts of himself. Let's let's so what does that mean about somebody? That's able to do that. Well, I see often it means at that person must have suffered sunny sort of abuse or neglect early on they learned that survival strategy. And the learning is not a competent of intellectual learning. It's an adaptation of the brain and the body. So it becomes a tendency. Let's say of how a person might be in the world is it ever. I like with everything sometimes it's environment. Sometimes it's genetics. Are there like psychopathy has genetics? Does this thing have genetics to it as well? Well, I would say possibly, but we don't know for certain. And I think it's different for every person. I don't know this man's background at all right, right? I think it's a a good example is all of us like everybody has stolen something in their lives. I'm thinking like a piece of candy when I was in third grade. I got in trouble for all stolen. We tell ourselves that. It's okay. Or it's not that bad, and we act like it didn't really happen. Right. And he did this to the one hundred degree. I mean, this man was really deep into these behaviors. This was not just a casual occasionally he was masturbating porn and his wife. Didn't know is it a whole life. Is it something that usually progresses like other addictions? Yeah. I would say this is an example of something that had progressed to the extreme. Now, he wasn't a novice with what he was doing. Right. When you say addiction, I'm assuming you guys are talking drug addiction. But is this also sexy? Yeah. Okay. Because not only sexual addiction. I mean think about it. The guy was married with a child. Right. And he was going off and doing the way I look at it being being a non-drug person. I'm saying, it's probably even more that he was trying to closet it. Because he also had a gay tendency on camera. Another level of tragedy and all this, right? Because we don't know whether he had a gay tendency just to be technically, and he could have been not being gay or he could have been gay and lying about it to himself in the world. I don't know. Because there are a lot of straight men that have sex with men because they enjoy it. And it's pleasurable, but what makes them not gay if they say, I'm not gay lifestyle. I wanna be gay. There's a category. Wait a minute. You're telling me men have sex with men, but there are some men that are gay that have sex with men. I'm going to hold for a second Alexander for the is a bigger topic to jump into originally that category came from HIV and aids research because they found a lot of men that were getting HIV and aids that were adamant that they were not gay, but occasionally on the DL they were doing with bad. It's that's a that's a category to category. Eight hundred two two two five two two two number. Speaking Alexander Kanakas center for healthy sex where you can find her center for healthy sex dot com. Leeann tweeden, Dr drew its midday live. I see this headline as I'm perusing stuff because you forget about this because it's such an old story ready. Here's the headline in your crackup. The optimum has proved us all wrong. There's this article about the optimum and how the kids are doing great. She's completely devoted to them. They're normal, and it shows a picture of the kids and eating and shifts some sleep on the couch, but they're polite. The author says they cook their vegan they read two books a month. And they do homework without being prompted. In spite of all the horror stories and the tabloids stories their model fourth graders. How did that happen? And you imagine never forget, I I wish I could attribute to the comedian who said that when she gave birth with all the umbilical cords. It looks like it looks like the back of a home entertainment system. It's a great way to put that never get that visual out of my head. And now either. Review? ABC dependable traffic.

"Is your first salacious bit of hot gas in the form of a blind date of awesome. You're it is this dating app. All of you know, is increasingly worried because the buzz is there was the reason the A-minus lists mostly television actor was where he was to get beaten. One of his attackers connected with him. On the app. Ooh, that's interesting. So we're assuming that's Jesse. Yeah. What is how do you say? What's last name? Let smell out. Yeah. Just. He. Oh, so the app would be grinder. That's interesting because I saw a headline. And I haven't read the story, which you know, that's always a good idea. Nineteen it happens. A lot Bradley. It's not just you. But I saw a headline that alluded to the fact that police were trying to obtain his cellphone records for when the during the time that he or they asked him for his cellphone records during the time that he was attacked because allegedly he was on the phone with his manager. But they wouldn't give that information willingly. And so they're going to have to ask a judge for it. I feel like I read something like that. And so I was like, well, why would they be hiding who he was talking to when he was attacked? But if this is the case that would make sense, right? Like if you didn't want to admit that you were not that anybody deserves the attack. Maybe if you didn't want to be forthcoming about who you were actually on the phone with like he was trying to keep it private. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Interesting because. Yeah. Okay. So go back and fill in the blanks on that one. Okay. Great this dating app. Grinder all of you know, is increasingly worried because the buzz is grinder was the reason Jesse smooth lead was where he was when he was beaten one of his attackers connected with Jesse on Grindr. That's awful. Okay. Yeah. There's just not much more. You can do with that..

"My pet peeves to I'm going to say the little one first. And then I have I totally agree with you about the porn thing. But my first little pet peeve. For those of you who slide into my grinder is the word play for sex. I hate it. And I don't know while it's like when people on Grindr like you wanna play. And I'm like just say fuck don't need to infanta business. I sex are the worst exactly want. You want say what I wanna do call it since no goals. And I was like never again, I will never see you ever again. Yeah. Snuck I want to. Yeah. On the record. If anyone gives me asking me if I wanna pork I will. Immediately charmed by and then in the larger conversation, the more serious conversation. I think fantasy can be so hot like, but it's hotter as a fantasy than it would be acted out. Oh, yeah. I want that. I want them on it. Dennis. What are your pet peeves? So I have a couple of first of all I have to say, I also love dirty talk. I it like sometimes that's all I need sometime like we could just have phone sex. And I believe that get done with. Yeah. Phone sex, very hot. But I like, sexting all that stuff. I like words so I am into words. But when I'm having sex and often like, I'm pretty submissive. And so a lot of times there's a bit of a sub dumb thing going on not like really deep into that a little bit. A lot of these men wanna call me boy. My hands. I absolutely can't at. I mean, one the infantilism of that just freaks me out. And to like, I do sleep with a lot of white men and a lot of white men who are older than me. So if there's already a sort of sub Dom thing going on, and they're white and they're masculine and they're old and they're calling me. Boy, I it takes me right back to a film from the sixties. So here's the thing. The thing a lot of white people don't know, the cultural meaning of the word boy will you break it down. So the reason why it's such an issue for so many black men in particular to be called boy, whether it's sexually or otherwise is because during Jim crow era. The fact was that that was what a lot of white people. That's how a lot of white men and a lot of white people talked to black men like grown ask black man raising families with jobs with careers. It could be anyone from a man who was like your Butler to a black man who was a doctor, and particularly that was a really complicated thing if there was a situation with the police or with the law where like you were called a boy because you were not considered a man, and you could not be considered a man because that was the threat to the power structure of society that you were in. And so like, I would like to think that I could divorce all of that history from like my own sexual beings. I shouldn't have to and I can't. And there's such a there's a difference with that. Because it's like there's this infantilism. Black man behind the boys. But then black men never getting to be boys. Exactly. It's this crazy. It's this insane. Catch twenty two that is really affecting our culture in so many ways, and like I know that like my bedroom, and my sex life is this very personal like place, but I can't stop thinking about that. When when that's their fantasy encroaches on yours. Yeah..

"Come over for lunch. Every sunday. I'm like, no, they don't, you know, will they'll die at some point. They've been dying forever. Lease threatening me with your death. And also give a shit now. And maybe I won't give shit when you're dead. But you know, what let me have me giving shit about you finally when you're dead me. Have it you're gonna convince me to give shit about you. Now do a good job will yet. Don't don't get food catered from the supermarket. I mean, that's all I can say I don't wanna come to your house to eat food that you brought over from super Mark one of those. What do you like about your partners? Now like, what do you like in a partner? Now, you're like a hookup guy if I met somebody now I'd want them to be the opposite of me. Where like I'm this desperate world dervish that wants a tension all the time who's broken. Who's deeply narcissistic and self obsessed and you want an untreated Al-Anon a career. I want somebody who's confident quiet smart somewhat. Maybe surreal dog. I don't know if you're describing like airing your I don't want any. I don't wanna comic. I don't want somebody in the realm of entertainment business. I want like a serious person you want. I don't want somebody that I can like I want actually the opposite. I want somebody who can like challenge me. But I wanna see where person and everyone in the business that I'm surrounded with. We're not serious people. You want an accountant someone like that someone serious? It was a real job. What are you bringing to their seriousness J us? What am I bring to the table nothing? Now that is go. She. But I've done it before I saw copiers and Staten Island. I will go and sell. I don't have. No, I'm bringing levity and chaos and fun. How do you? What's your good at hooking up? Are you good at like getting dude? I'm okay. I don't know if I'm great at it thing. Give a stick. Do you have? Or is it just after a show? You're just so funny that no gay guys do not go to shows. They really don't go to comedy shows. Now, they'll go see a comedian. They like, but there's very few. None that's been changing. But a lot of the gay guys that go to comedy shows are couples. So a lot of but there's not a ton of single gay people at comedy shows comedy, especially on the road. A lot of comedy shows are attended by older couple's older people now that's not to say that there's no gay people out there. But I've had this talk of Matteo lane and a lot of different people. If you're heterosexual guy, there's so many, and they're really also single women in many cases, a really impressed by comedy gay men aren't as oppressed. Okay. So where do you get your guys from them on the internet? You meet them on apps like that you go out give it up. I don't know if favorite is just kind of about, you know, whatever you whatever feels like I've met people of grinder, but that's primarily hookups, I've met workout. Well, I hear the people on Instagram DM's and messages with that's kind of worked out with somebody's reached out to me you met you met somebody on Grindr, which is ten there. But definitely fucking right or things are pretty as. Aka tender for their parents came out with them. Oh, what do this ever have now? Okay. I'm trying to think. Okay. Maybe it happened to me. And I forgot. I don't think that happened to me. I did I do seeking arrangements which is like a sugar daddy website where it's like, I'll me guys that are intellect dating a successful person. But I'm kind of front room. I'm not that successful..
