Manny Pacquiao Prepares for His Potential Final Fight
"Simkin you just spend time with one of the biggest athletes on planet earth. What did you see what i saw in los angeles is in the build up to what is potentially the final fight of many pack yells story. Career was in many ways similar to every other up to every other big manny pack. I'll fight tim. Cuban is a senior writer for espn. The routine was the same. His training was the same. The schedule is the same. He still eats chicken and rice for breakfast. Every morning and gets gets teased for it. People are still gathering around him whether it be at griffith park where he does his workouts in the morning in a parking lot or at his home where people come to to pay their respects to him what he has met to them in their lives and how important he is figure in philippine culture but in many other ways this was a vastly different experience. This fight for manny pack. Yo is a transition of sorts. He will be moving on to a much. Perhaps more dangerous sport if you will in philippine politics there's a certain element of unease and uncertainty surrounding him. And it's because the title. He will soon be vying for its president of the philippines and his opponent. Rodriguez do tei is unlike any other. He has ever faced a man who plays by his own set of rules.

"I mean. And i know that these days it's a big thing. I mean even on disney plus some of the older titles on dumbo and and some of the older titles they get that pre rain card that says hey it was wrong as politically correct but i also wonder if that translates to romance. 'cause that's something i've heard a lot in. It's not talked about people say well disney paints this idea of what a loving couple is a prince charming and princess. It's supposed to be perfect. You live happily ever after Do i mean my question is this. Did everybody have happy marriages at disney. Who was what do you think is the root of people deciding. Hey this is what love should be like was there. I guess i'm curious about yeah worked for. So i gotta tell you greg. I really appreciate the questions asking. You know i've been yunan nitty podcasts. And many articles and many things. You're asking questions. No one has ever asked me. And i really appreciate that really good way. Yeah it's really awesome questions. You're asking very sensitive. Let me let me say two things on that. So here's how best illustrate it. So when walt disney was creating disneyland you need to know and someone like you who who loves disney imagineering. You're gonna appreciate some of the story if you haven't heard it is before disney. There was no such thing as a theme park that did not exist. There was amusement parks and walt disney was sitting in a park. I think it was near the griffith griffith park here in. La watching his kids on the merry go round sitting on a bench. Eating a bag of peanuts is a true story. He's told the story many times as he's sitting on a bench like you know what. I wish. there was something that i could do with my kids. I wish there was activity that always sitting watching them. I wish there was something we could experience together. And that's we came up with the idea for disneyland and the difference between a amusement park amusement is just fun..

I'm yeah i'm sure there were just lots of problems with it being an old home so they had to demolish the actual home that they lived in but waltz daughter. Diane did recognize the importance of the barn that he had built. So where him and his friends would have hung out And of course the train and everything like that so she began the process of saving everything before it was demolished. And there's a couple places now where you can actually see. You know these things that we're talking about so for one. Walt's barn was preserved and in los angeles at the griffith park It's there as a loan. Basically so griffith park doesn't own it but you can only actually see it on the third sunday of every month. That's when it's open so if you wanna go see it you gotta do a lot of planning if you do plan to go see it inside. The barn is a one. Eight scale of the curl would train. Which is the same size that he added his house but it is not the original train. Oh i thought you were saying it was a one eight scale of the one eight scale. You're just saying it's a it's this size. Yes i think. It's just to show kind of what he had built in what he had in his backyard. So the barn is the original. From now through the end of April, the country will need to average a million vaccines the day to reach Biden's goal. Jim Blumenstock of the Association of State and Territorial Health officials says. The good news is that we're not far off. You know, we have already seen a couple of days where we've had a million mark and I guess, on average was somewhere between 708 100,000 per day. That's in recent weeks, according to a tracker from Bloomberg News. And in the last few days, that average has increased over 900,000 Day. Blumenstock says the early days of vaccine rollout were hampered by holidays and working out the details involved with training up vaccinators and giving out a new vaccine. But now around 40 days into vaccine distribution, you know we're stepping out of that start up phase and broadening our capabilities and capacities and hopefully we will be able to administer more doses to larger groups of people over time. Claire Hannan is head of the Association of Immunization Managers. You get to 100 million doses and 100 days, she says States need a major surgeon vaccine supply and reliable projections on what to expect a few weeks out. Biden's plan includes better communication on allocations and working to increase supplies of the vaccine along the other things needed to administer it. In the meantime, hand and says changes have been made that are making vaccine administration go faster. States have been slammed for being slow to give out the doses they've received. But that's shifting. We're not prioritizing it as finely as we were. The majority of states have opened it up. To either over 65 or over 75. Nationwide. There are around 50 million adults 65 older, which means that the pool of vaccine eligible people is now way bigger than the supply. Hannon says that many places air also scheduling appointments ahead of time without knowing for sure they'll have enough vaccines to cover them. That's annoying for people whose appointments get canceled or pushed back. But it does mean there's always someone ready to fill a no show spot. We have to be vaccinating the maximum out we can per day and the only way to do that. Over schedule. Julie Swan, a supply chain expert at North Carolina State University, says 100 million shots won't actually cover that much of the population at a very high level. We might expect that these 100 million doses might fully cover 40 million people with another 10 million or so getting a second does or first does if you add it to the number of people who've already been vaccinated. It still means less than 20% of the U. S population would be getting shots in 100 days. Some people are now saying 100 million doses in 100 Days is not ambitious enough. Here's Louisiana. Borio, who served as a covert 19 advisor on Biden's transition team. Don't even see it as a target is it has a floor and I think that you'll see a lot of activity around fixing the distribution of vaccines to make sure that there is very little Delta between what's available for use in what's actually being administered. What's clear, experts say, is that vaccine distribution needs to increase rapidly well beyond the 1st 100. Days. Ping Wang NPR news To Germany now where the government is expected to put the country's largest right wing opposition party under surveillance. No trick-or-treating this Halloween in Los Angeles County due to COVID-19

That's right. There will be no Halloween. There will be no trick or treating. There will be no West Hollywood Carnaval. There will be no Halloween horror nights at Universal Studios. It's all being canceled because of the cove it what's not permitted this Halloween, which is less than two months away. No door to door trick or treating because it's very difficult to maintain proper social distancing on porches and it front doors, especially in neighborhoods that have lots of trick or treaters. Also not permitted is something called trucker Trading where Children go from car to car instead of door to door Now, I've never heard of trunk or treating, but that sounds like some stranger danger right there. Gatherings or parties with non household members. That's not permitted, even if they're conducted outdoors, no carnivals, no festivals, no live entertainment and, of course, no haunted house attractions. In fact, the haunted hayride in Griffith Park is gonna be a drive through this year. So what is allowed You can have an online party in a contest like online zoom costume contest. You could be in. Ah, following car Parade, Khun even have Ah, dress up your car in a costume and have judges Judge it. You can have a Halloween movie night at the drive in theater. Maybe they go see earnest, scared, stupid Halloween theme meals at outdoor restaurants that that's something you can do as long as that restaurant is operating with the protocols that they operate outdoors. Even when it's windy out. Following themed art installations and outdoor museums that's going to be allowed. You're allowed to dress up your home with Halloween decorations, but you can't actually enjoy Any Halloween. Now It doesn't say anywhere that you can't eat candy. But imagine eating the amount of candy that the average person eats during Halloween, and you're not walking off those calories by trick or treating.

I'm more depressed that this thing isn't going to be going away very soon and worse. It's actually coming back before it's even gone away. So I think the last couple of weeks probably have been a bit more challenging yet. The thing I've been doing which I found very therapeutic is I've always been a big bike rider. And around where I lives, a great area to ride. So I've been getting out almost every day in. That definitely keeps me sane, just being out in nature and up on Mulholland or, you know, like Griffith Park or something on that. Griffiths who was a Welsh kind of rags to riches story that moved over to the western United States and made quite a name for himself out here in LA Griffith J. Griffith why did he have the same first and last name first of all apparently that's a thing in South Wales I K. I I did not know this but apparently like that's and that's that's kind of a pretty common occurrence over in that part of the world all right so he and his wife eventually donated to their land which I guess is at that point was what about three thousand acres they donated it to Los Angeles yes it was around a little over three thousand acres this was December eighteen ninety six and they donated the land to the city of Los Angeles as a Christmas present specifically for use as a city park so let's remember eighteen ninety six you know at this point LA is pretty much kind of a backwater town like people are starting to move here but we're still probably second third maybe fourth or fifth title in terms of you know cities in the state of California you know San Diego was bigger Santa Barbara was more important San Francisco was the center of power like LA was really nothing and then immediately overnight we have a park that's significantly larger than Central Park in Manhattan and it's so big and it's so remote back in Griffith park wasn't even inside LA city limits when it was given to the city in eighteen ninety six and was still wild mainly it didn't have any of the manicured lawn part said it has today yes so at this point the sort of the chunk of Rancho Los police that became Griffith park was pretty rugged there was some development there was not you know sort of untouched land the Rancho had been there for quite some time some of the one of those buildings actually still there at the park's film office which is right near the visitor center there been like kind of a rough and tumble golf course over there in a few kind of uses for recreation I'm an ostrich farm as well was kind of near where the old LA's you sets right now so wasn't definitely like you know you're you're a wilderness area but most of that land was pretty rugged and kind of difficult to develop so it was fairly pristine when it was given or is a city park can you talk about the old L. A. zero those cages are pretty crazy I know spent a lot of time in that area and was wondering about the animals that were there and how they lived and just the origins of those things can you give us a like a circle yeah of course so actually the the older lazy is it is a pretty well known spot in Griffith park you've seen any TV you've seen the movies you have probably seen it in like actors headshots with people trying to look super cool and creepy you may have seen a lot of the haunted hay rides in Griffith park during you know Halloween season that actually is one of it was not the first zero in LA but it was one of the earliest Jews and it kind of sits near where the ostrich farm that Griffith Kyle Griffith and one of his business partners kind of co owned and ran over there and by all accounts the old elites who was kind of always a black guy on the city of Los Angeles it was really not a nice zoo it was well behind modern standards there was stuff about like sewage leaking into the LA river and there was one.

People are really they get their long before we do show up there and their palm trees in front of the House and all of this very colorful foliage. When we're all in Parkas you know I don't know but I buy it and I know we're not in La. But I I walk up to the Seine. I'm like wow very impressive to strike. I still do but they were able to pull it off and we do a lot of interiors so that could be anywhere but you bring Your Own New York Ness to this party. I that's great. It fits in the character. Does everything people look at you like they look at me or anybody else's in New Yorker when we go to La. What's the matter with you? Why are you wearing black and white? I don't understand stuff. They hired me so you didn't even go there for like one. We had one day. I shot one in L. A. And we got a lot out of it because I was up on in Griffith Park or something where I was someplace to. They got lots of long view pictures of us in La just to Kinda Cement. The location think it's only fair. I see enough movies that are supposed to be in New York. That are shot in Vancouver and I go way it. That's up late clean on we. Just don't do at all. That's right time. Tommy herself as a character is is to me wonderfully complicated. Oh good all really messed up. And I'd love to see this woman who's in charge be like all of us when somebody says you have authority over this like we all delude ourselves. Who are parents that we have with authority for their right but she she had a messed up marriage her daughter and she don't have the best relation right? Her husband's an actor right. Oh my God. Can I mistaken you? Imagine and she's a lesbian looking for love in Los Angeles while being the chief of police data enough for you to have roll camera to that one but yeah she's got up and who doesn't mean. We all have all thinkers. I think people are ready to see that you know complicated people with complicated lives. And how we're GONNA handle it and so what? I think I like most is that she does see as her priority to kind of get this police department in shape even knowing that there's going to be pushed back the men that she's a female she doesn't know anybody she hasn't necessarily earned her place in that precinct. She knows they're going to be people who are not happy about that nonetheless. You show up ready job and makes that the priority and how these other things fall into place kind of what we hope people will come back to see. But whenever I've talked to you about your life here in New York you've always said to me. You know what I love to do on terrified. Stay to I'm John Cancer. You know my my sign and homebody. Just don't WANNA go anywhere. I win every place and I did so during your whole doubles years. That's right apparently out in the world but yeah I love being home. I have a home. That's comfortable and I love my kids and my dog's my friends come over. I don't know yes. I go out occasionally but I love being home and I love especially working these very long days and coming home to my house in my bed and my loved ones. You know what's important everybody's there everybody's there and even if they're not always happy to see the look of disgust on their faces when I when I recognize. I'm it's do. They comment on your performances. No I I. I'm not entirely sure. They know what I do and I'm completely on. They must've at least watch. I know my daughter said so. The shows on Thursday nights. I said Yeah. She goes We don't have to watch it. Do we know Mace. I won't make you watch kind of worked on it. Because she was onset so much. My daughter almost twelve worked on it. Yes many way would make me laugh. They are endlessly. Funny my kids. Yeah and that's what keeps us all going. Oh for sure. You may not look like you at a spa but that's You know I can't remember totally my life before them. I can't even doing with my time was was it the children when you adopted was the son. The first one was that. What changed everything for you. You know there were a lot of little things along the way. The decision to adopt him was was huge. And then I was talking to somebody recently about the moment they hand you your child who is over or is it like the get to see the baby. I it's every say that one no of course you have no idea. It was connected to this birth mother. Well in advance of her giving birth so They actually handed me my trial. And I'm looking at this little thing. Yeah it's huge and your life changes. It just changed national. Who I thought was like. You're leaving like you guys were the book. He was very nerve wracking. The whole ride home. My friends were in the back looking at him in his seat. Like all right. Yeah No. He's still he's still good. It's really really nerve wracking. But I think every parent goes so. I don't WanNA kill this baby. Try because you can't. This can't be happening to be out to do it. I changed my mind. None of that's allow no. That's the thing is the relentlessness of the whole the whole procedure. I think it's good for us. Well I think it's good for everybody because it's going to happen. It's going to totally if you are huge and wealthy and can hire a nanny for every half day. It's still your cake and the ad may know you're the one you're the one and you're responsible and you did everything wrong and you know that right. Once they're able to talk it's on you. It's so different for Tommy. Because she comes in. She didn't have this relationship with her daughter. Stayed back in with her dad and it was and you're doing this and and trying to find so here it is all these years later. My daughter has a daughter on on the show. And so we're what? Where can we start from you know? Do we try to go backwards and repair? Can we start from where we are? I mean it's all the questions that I guess one would have in a in a situation like that or do I just walk away you know. Is this something that can't be fixed. You know again complicated. Yeah who wants to well? Maybe people do especially in this. You're dealing. This show is dealing with things that were living with every day and immigration. The first episode is there Sexual misconduct right is right. There in fact it was. Tommy that had problem right war and then in the last episode that I'd seen it was about a Hollywood producer. Rice was happening. So do you have input into this. What's going into these scripts? You know what I could I it's been made very clear to me that I have as much input as I want. But I'm so busy doing the stuff that I do. That and we have a stable full of writers that are so creative and interesting and interested and talented suddenly. We're all sitting. I just referred to them as livestock. I'm not sure I didn't mean it like you. The whole group lovely normally humans sitting in a room didn't the story and you look at it and do you go into the stable and say the hell is death if they took this. I look at it if I look at with. Yeah you'd never do that either so you can do it. We have to give me that. I haven't done someplace somewhere you know is is the prison warden. Carmelo is like basically running that house too bad for Tony that any of that happening. I let him maybe total mass but what she's in the hospital we don't think of her diction we think she knows what she's doing as messed up she is. What is it about you that everybody thinks he is take charge? She knows what you do it. Every minute of the hold the will of all the is so what not. You're not how do you deal with all the characters that you've played before when the public when they see you is going to remember one or the other of them vividly? The amazing thing I've discovered at this point in my life is I can't control anything that happens with anyone else so if they are coming at me with a memory of some other character I played. I hope they will let go quickly or they won't be able to Follow the new story that we're all telling you know It is a huge honor to think people look at me and think. Oh I watched that show that you were on whatever but being an actor you change all the time who you're playing in what part of the story you are participating in and You know so I hope people are able to let it go and and look at look at the new stuff. Where do they go in your head? Do they live with you? I'm sure they do you wake up some days and there's a lot of now that they're long gone so you don't need any therapy then it's okay that's a whole other. How much time we got about the role. No no no. No no no. That's also twenty years ago. We started it twenty years ago. Sopranos And then Jackie was whatever I don't however many years ago that was time passes in wants to Kinda I take off the nails and the jewelry and all that stuff she goes away. You didn't save inning of her. Wardrobe tying the wardrobe. No I was. I was happy to move past that. I kept a couple of things from the house and I didn't keep her fingernails wardrobe. Something you'd be in the mood for US.

"It's I mean it's kind of interesting when we reported but we're just reading about it where you have a weather person who actually knows and can take a deep dive into the river all okay care enough let's move on all right well a lot of people got concerned yesterday when they saw this headline discovery of body parts in Griffith park well now it looks like it could have been a homeless person living in the area who died and possibly even of natural causes and then animals got to the body and that's why there were body parts and that's why the head was decapitated that sort of thing so you know somebody just dies out there and yeah it's a you get you get constantly bodies in Griffith park all right parts of bodies in Griffith park no that's true I'm not exaggerating that's been going on for decades and decades I mean probably since probably the thirties the forties of when the first stories came up and out also animals can to Rome Griffith yeah and chew up dead people which is why one of the big contributors to the Grove park foundation is a rainout pet food hand I'll bet you didn't know that no didn't know it is not true this is a terrible story a woman's been arrested she is alleged to have taken a three year old son tied him up put a plastic bag over her head and then set their house on fire this is a story that we can you imagine on the aids and she has been charged only with.

"Dr numbers eight hundred two two two five two two two we are in fact called just a moment first you're going to go out to K. B. C. news correspondent Kevin trip regarding this grisly finding in Griffith park Kevin give us an update yeah really bizarre and disturbing story up in Griffith park and after those listening this does that contain graphic details so you've been warned at about nine AM this morning the LAPD was informed by a hiker coming out of one of the canyons at Griffith park that they had discovered human remains the police department goes up there and this is in an area around Griffith park drive in camp road to serve up till from the golf courses above I five and they find these human remains and here's what we know so far that they appear to be male that they are probably from a white or Hispanic man in his forties or fifties but that's all they know so far and essentially there are one of three scenarios that probably played out either somebody was murdered and then dismembered or they were murdered and then they were dismembered by animals by wild animals or they died of natural causes potentially at while camping up in Griffith park and then was dismembered by animals so it seems like it's one of those three scenarios castigating it as a homicide although it's possible they won't be ultimately ruled a homicide but they need to collect evidence and do all of those things just to make sure when you say camping Herve part I didn't know that was legal so that means homelessness right that's my thought to that would be the logical conclusion they have just said campaign but that the logical conclusion is that it's potentially a homeless person although we don't yet know this could be the person who was murdered on the scene and then dismembered or it could be a body that had been murdered somewhere else and then was dumped in this remote location up in the canyon or it could have been somebody who was living there in some sort of homeless encampment or tense situation and then either died of natural causes and was dismembered by animals killed by someone else tell pretty quickly that whether it's animals or knives the yeah yeah yeah and that's why the police are are I think pretty quickly saying it could have been animals because as you know doctor grow there are forensic yeah quickies of evidence are indicative of an animal tearing somebody apart and sees an instrument in in and my first thought was usually I mean a lot of times when when you know you find a body or whatever and it's you know a man fitting a description of its a male and forties or fifties or whatever a lot of times I mean don't they go back and look to see if somebody's been reported missing and if that somebody has been reporting and that's got to me I my mind go okay maybe it is a homeless person or somebody that's been detach from family for awhile because usually if somebody's you know I'll still close to family or friends right somebody would report somebody missing if somebody's been murdered you know I mean like say the deal gone bad or something like that but that was my first instinct was like oh maybe it was a homeless person let like living up in the mountain or something and and or you know even if they were murdered they kind of been detach from family or or what have you yeah I think we'll probably find out in the next couple days or get a good indication anywhere about five hours into this investigation so you can bet the LAPD is searching all those databases of persons because of course whether it's a homeless person or somebody who was murdered in another situation it could be somebody from another state and county the body may have been there for a while we're still not clear as to you know how much decomposition there was so there's a lot of sort of unknowns I think one of the interesting tidbits is that the found body parts you know kind of strewn about around kind of indicative of what an animal would do today so what was the head there the head with it they had was not there so that's one of the the toss pieces that they're dealing with our we don't know if they have fingerprints or if that's no longer probably something that's viable this may be a DNA type of a identification situation sometimes I mean don't they like in Mexico if they don't want you to identify the body they yeah because I had someone else a chance there it was probable we we're getting to the point now with the homelessness in the city the people are just being eaten by animals that's it that's where we are yeah that's it that's the hate thank Hey one thing I know it doesn't what why not the whole thing is complete the K. complete so why not that one not that it'll be interesting to hear also in the next day or so if there are any signs of a camp because if they see a tent in the sleeping bag and you know cooking material or anything else like that that's a significant piece of evidence for the investigators who after all they're just trying to figure out why did this person die who is this person was there a crime committed that's what the detectives are focused on right now all right Kevin thanks for the update sorry of the deal with the stories like this it's unthinkable that in a city in the richest country on earth people are being eaten by animals because they are not being taken care of that's were rack Kevin thanks so much thank you you bet eight hundred two two two five two two two I'm gonna get the calls just a second we'll take another quick break the entry Dr drew me they live M. seven ninety KABC C. dependable traffic.
