Fresh update on "gretzky" discussed on Podcast Pontifications

"My discourse server then you certainly want to get better at podcasting so who do you learn from the people who mastered the craft right. I mean that's the obvious idea. Those who have made a successful if not extremely successful podcast in line with the type of podcast you want to make seems the logical choice of someone to learn from why not learn from the best well because that's likely the opposite of what you should do wayne gretzky arguably the greatest player to ever lace up the skates in the nhl. He coached the phoenix coyotes. Professional team for four seasons after he retired as a player and during his tenure. That team lost more games than they won. Wasn't a great coach great player. Stephen king's book on writing is often quoted as a must read by many authors. But in reality it's a memoir. It's not a right books. The way that stephen king writes books look great writer but grade teacher. I don't know you know you can go down to your local guitar center or any other music store and you can buy a book and sheet music and videos. That'll teach you how to play guitar. Just like in game. Allenstein from mr inga. Moms dean himself. But when you're done you're not going to be able to play guitar. Like inveigh moms teen. Sorry great player teacher. You can even sign up for a master class taught by an actor who has won multiple academy awards and you will likely not pick up any actionable technique that propels you towards a career or further your career in motion pictures because it may be a great actor. They're probably not a great teacher at all. you know. In most cases the pros who try their hand at teaching find out that they are much better at being pros than they are at being teachers. Now for people who are just starting out or who all are happy to continue to dabble in a certain thing. Hey then the advice offered up by. The pros are great for them because they can copy some techniques. Try on a few styles. And i'd go so far as to say that many of these dabbler 's will actually show some improvement after taking a class or a workshop or watching a video series from someone at the top of their game but that's for beginners. We're talking about marginal improvement at best and one that clearly shows diminishing returns. It's really no different podcasting. Because at some point you go from dabbling in podcasting or just starting out in podcasting to getting serious about podcasting and then studying those podcasters. At least the information they put out is from there at the top of their game. That becomes a lot less valuable to you for a few reasons. But one is that the instructional information that these pro podcasters put out isn't aimed at you. It's aimed at the beginner. And you're probably not a beginner anymore. I know you might feel like a beginner sometimes. Might feel like you don't have all of the tricks and the tools and techniques down and you don't none of us do but going back to the information pros give to how to get started and podcasting isn't going to help you. So what does actually help you. The working podcast. Or who's been at this for awhile. Get better what's the real question. That's a trick question but there are lots of ways to answer that and something. I want to dig into a lot more this week on. Podcast quantifications look. I don't have all of the time in this episode to get into. Here's exactly what you should do. Because here's the other trick. There's no one right way right. We know that but there are some good right ways that i would like to expose to you for the rest of the episodes on this week if you have personally any of recommendations and he ends that you've used any resources in classes and he workshops any ideas that you have personally used as working podcast and i think it started but actually propel your career forward. Welcome to the Dan Bongino Show!

"Believe we're here right now. I mean, it's been a really incredible long road. I got my start in talk radio. And I want to say for the first time when I say here I mean, right here at this point. Welcome to the Dan Bongino show. I'm Dan Bongino. And, gosh, that feels good to say. Been a really long road. I never thought this would happen. And this moment is bittersweet. Mean bitter sweet in the real meaning of the phrase Bitter sweet, Not like Joe Biden says it where he screws it up and doesn't know what it means. But sweet because I get to talk to you now every day from 12 noon to three. On talk radio, which has been the heartbeat of this nation for decades now. But why is talk radio conservative talk radio specifically liberal. Screw it up. I tried that whole experiment with talk radio didn't really work. You know, we actually care about the issues. So we do this stuff and do it all the time and do it well, But why is talk radio the heartbeat of this nation? Why has it been for 30 years? Well, I could tell you most certainly isn't because of Dan Bongino. It's because of the greatest of all time. Titan of this industry, a giant Rush in Amman. That's the bitter part. Rush Limbaugh You're used to hearing for decades now me as well. We used to hearing his booming voice in your ear. This time block for 30 years. He's a giant. The Godfather. They say often, it's not just that Rush Limbaugh was the greatest player in the game. Rush Limbaugh was the greatest player in the game for 30 years. And it's not just that Rush Limbaugh was the M V P of the game for 30 years. Rush Limbaugh. Created the game. You know, you think of the greats in any business. Gretzky, Jordan, Babe Ruth. They had great 15 20 year runs. They weren't MVPs for 20 years. But they didn't invent basketball, hockey and baseball respectively. National conservative talk radio. Was practically invented by Rush Limbaugh. I want to say to the Patriots out there who've spent your time being educated, informed and entertained by the greatest talk radio host there ever will be for the last 30 years. Can't replace him. May sit in his time slot and it's the greatest honor of my life to do this. My first love has always been radio. But I can't replace him.

Strategy Execution Results: Get in Gear Sean T. Ryan -

"Pretty good year here. It's just gotta clean. It's gotta to be whatever the case and it just works all the way through and and it's just find brilliant so let's just go right into right right right. I gear right. That's the first gear right right right here. Getting the right right. Let's what is what is right right right. What is that first gear. How does it connect to strategy. Let's talk about that real quick. Absolutely right right right is about having the right people in the right roles with the right capabilities and and so you know the the idea that you can have a strategy but without the right people it's going to be really hard to execute and if people don't have the right capabilities It's going to be hard to execute that strategy Or if you've got you have good people when We we knew we. We knew that we had this opportunity. We had just gotten into Refreshment putting the m you know in the plastic bottle water you know back in like nineteen ninety four ninety five and we could see that business taking off at that particular point in time coca cola and pepsi. Were not in the bottled water. Business business was just too small right but we also knew that there was a at the time with with our with our growth. We knew there was a point in time at which they were going to jump into the bottled water business and we also knew that we didn't actually have the talent to be able to compete against them effectively especially in in our leadership levels. And so you know right people in the right roles with the right capabilities. We knew we needed to go. Recruit different people who fit our strategy number one and number two who were gonna fit our values and our values around honesty integrity teamwork building respect The that were absolutely critical to us providing the leadership to our team that we were anticipated. We were going to need to have that five now. We we didn't know it was going to be five full growth over seven years at the time That that really just kind of happened but it happened because we did get. We did realize we needed a different capability of of leaders a previously. We had hired talent Pretty much off the street. Just technical-functional talent technical-functional talents important but leadership capabilities were hugely important. And so we had to really re gear and rethink. Who do we need to have on our team. How do we go find those people. And then how do we recruit and select them to be on the team to get the talent that we needed to be able to enable that success. Okay so something you say in this book right. Nobody exactly this way. But i'm gonna say you hire to the values. I mean you you hired to the values you'd because i think it's so easy to do in and by the way i appreciate. How much of a big fan. You are michael porter. Because i love competitive advantage and so i love that about you Just one thing. It's not the only thing. I i'd love several things about you but i think hiring values is something that we don't do very a at least in my experience. Coaching businesses is that. Sometimes we try. We're so focused in hiring this great talent that we're not hiring to our values of company in nor do we really know clearly what the values are our company and us us a pretty great questions here. You know what we stand for what we believe. In what are the broad boundaries. You want people to play within enable us to execute a strategy. I think those are really fundamental questions that every business needs to ask right up front. I agree a hundred percent in the way. I would describe it a little bit. Jay is i think there's always a gap in an organization between where you are and where you want to be in. We talked a lot about obviously strategy to houston results. We're talking about the business strategy. How do we position ourselves in the marketplace to be successful but to me. It's it's really kind of that strand of where do we need to be. And how do we need to get their. What's that business strategy. That gets us to that as wayne gretzky would have said you know. I don't skate where the puck is ice skate to where the puck is going to be. That's that's really. The essence of strategy is skating delaware. The puck going to be the. That's the business strategy. But i think there's an intertwined strands of dna with business strategy which we call the cultural strategy. What's what's the culture of the organization that we need to have is going to enable us to execute that business strategy and culture starts with the values. What are we. Stand the the questions that you've posed there. What are we stand for. What are we believe. In what are those widest parameters that. We want people to play within. What were those are values and you know there are some that are i think they should be they. They may not be but they should be almost universal honesty and integrity respect and by respect. I mean deep respect Not just respecting respecting people for who. They are for the diverse. You know background that they bring to the table respecting them as human beings in and trust and trustworthiness i think are universal but but then there's some that can be particular to an organization based upon their strategy. There there are some organizations that have to be absolutely cutting edge innovative right constantly thinking outside the box and then there may be other organizations where it's not about the most innovative you know cutting edge bleeding edge organization but you have to have incredible continuous improvement. We're getting a little bit better tomorrow. And then again day after it again the day after is the key to success will depending upon those those valley. What you need to be successful does drive some of the component of the values of the organization right right and then that drives who you need to look for. Do you need to look for people. Who reminds her. Just you know. They're buzzing all the time and they are the cutting edge bleeding edge creators ordinary people. Who have that continuous improvement mentality. And so the business strategy drives the cultural strategy which drives who you need to go find to help you execute that strategy again. You know you. i'm going to quote you again. You said Critical issues to be clear upfront. About what values. Your organization needs to support the execution of your strategy.

Control Your Own Success by Taking Advantage of a Global Economic Shift

"And you believe in and by the way i wholeheartedly agree with you that we are in the midst of a global economic shift can you expound upon this for fire nation. I'm going to share something. Tony said in the simplest thing but he said humpty dumpty broke and you put it back together in the same way and i sometimes like listening. We both appreciate tony baton partner dear friend but sometimes it's really deep what he says and sometimes it seems really simple but it really has more meaning is the world is completely shifted. And it's not going back to the way it was and what a world shifts that much when cultures shift that much when we go from in person to online virtual exponentially grows and technology from that continues to grow. We're not going back to the way we were. And that means there's a huge global economic shift happening and money is flowing from different people to to new industries flowing out of old industries into new. And i just believe that if we don't Wayne gretzky the skater. He's from canada. Originally played here in the states to one of the best skaters of all time hawking matter wherever you're listening in the world he was asked once Why he's so good at hockey or white. How'd you do so well or win another championship. He said some people unfortunately skate to where the puck was some people in most skate to where the puck currently is he said i got really lucky and figured out had escaped where the puck was going and i think if we don't observe that there's an economic and a global shift we're going to escape where the puck was aware it is and those that get to come out ahead are going to where the puck is going and that's why we'll scream for mountaintops. It's time to explore time to investigate. See were money is flowing. See what industries are growing. Where where. The revolutions. The breakthroughs the the category kings the ground swell the wave. And i think when you do that. It's not as difficult as you think. Because most people sit on their hands in times like these they wait for someone else to fix it and just like we're talking about if you wait for someone else to fix it. Someone else will own your

Washington Capitals' Tom Wilson Receives 7 Game Suspension After Hitting Boston Bruins' Brandon Carlo

"Tom wilson's added again. The washington capitals rugged. Ford i was gonna call him tough guy but that was very tough thing. He did there recently against the boston. Bruins tom wilson has now been suspended for seven games for a hit against the boards on boston's brandon carlo. And it was well ugly in every way hit can be ugly. It was basically carlo up against the boards. Got the pocket and his skates. And wilson comes up and pretty much collides with the side of the guy's head and he left the game due to injury and It was just and it's not one of those deals where he can sort of. Give the guy the benefit of the doubt. Tom wilson continually runs into trouble with the nhl law and I mean these seven game. Suspensions four-game game suspensions the they just don't seem to be getting through to this guy. Now what did you think of him. There's no doubt in my mind that that he's lining up the guy's head okay whether shoulder right. That's the big hit right. That's the big hit when you when you leave the ice. Hers people incorrectly. See all the time. He left his feet. You know when he when he's leaving the isis the guys up against the boards. I think he's not even looking at him. Got his head down and this guy sort of lays into them with a shoulder to connect with his head. Okay so that's that's a terrible brutal disgusting dirty hidden hockey. Triple that stevie. When you're looking at the guys had up against the glass and you're gonna go smashing. You know like the guy the guys up the guys up against the boards and there's his his face might even be against the glass when he does it steve. It's just freaking heinous man idea. I thought i. That's what i thought when i looked out said that's like punching a guy down steve that's like punching a guy when his heads on the ice and you know as heads on the ice right. They don't do it right. You seldom see that right. The guy will pull up. What was the example. Last week was a beautiful example. The guy waving the linesmen and because he was going to use going to murder the kitty was fighting right. Yeah but this guy. I think he. He saw it from a mile away in terms of hockey speed. You know like you have a good two seconds there and tried to smash his head like a pumpkin into the glass. That's what i that's what i saw. Elsie the same. I mean and it's and it's this guy it's one of those deals where maybe i'm throwing around benefit of doubt of. It's somebody who's never done something like this before because it is a fast game and guys move the last second but there's nothing i can find here where i i can even begin to go down that road. A it's is tom wilson. You know if there's been a murder and there's a serial killer hanging around the scene of the crime. I'm gonna probably look his way and not given benefit of the doubt It's tom wilson and brandon. Carlo is totally stationary up against the boards. There was one today it was. Let's see. I think it was chicago in saint. Louis i wanna say and There was a big hit Behind the net and I mean it was one where he could look at and say okay. Well that's second go either way but this one was just. This is a guy. Carlos stationary against the boards. He didn't change direction. Didn't spin at the last second. He's totally still. And this guy had really his choice of where he wanted to hit him and He clearly chose get the the good. Maybe do the most damage knock this guy goofy. Get the puck and off. I go and intimidating. That's tom wilson's game. And so it's that's that's the frustrating part of it but more than that though it's hard for me to get to work out a budget anymore. Because the nhl at large doesn't seem to care that much y'all through a seven game suspension. Well this guy's been suspended repeatedly in the league and It doesn't seem to change anything for him and they don't ever seem to want to do something more fierce with this

"This I'd just impacted the game of baseball because blood gets traded to the Phillies. He refused. He refused to report to the Phillies. See while ends up taking baseball. The court over the reserve clause that binds a player perpetually to one team. Flood lost that case, but it would eventually lead it to the end of the reserve clause in baseball and open the doors for free agency. So I mean that that trade alter the course of baseball history so that the Kurt Flood traded to the Phillies at Number three number two Wayne Gretzky to the King's I mean, we're talking about the greatest of all time after almost 10 years and adamant in at the age of 27 years old He gets traded from the Oilers, who had just won their fourth Stanley Cup with Gretzky. They trade him because the owner needed cash for struggling other businesses. On day one, the trading Gretzky the king 15 million US 15 million again. You think about that the time it was 1988 so at the time, I mean, $15 million. That's still a lot of money today. But even back then 1988 $15 million A couple players three first round draft picks, and then you know, we know a Gretzky did Eight seasons in L. A. He scored 246 gold 672 assists. The guy in his first season there won the heart trophy. Built that fan base up in Los Angeles. And not only did he build the L, a fan base up, but it gave a boost to the United States hockey seen him arriving from Canada so and again the Kings, who haven't done very much in terms of anything in the postseason. Your last play of victory had come in 1982 Gretzky comes. They reached the playoffs each of his first five seasons. They go the Stanley Cup in 93. They lose to the Canadians, but he does get them. They're so Wayne Gretzky at the age of 27 after just winning his fourth Stanley Cup gets traded. From the Oilers to the king that finally I told you is going to go local with one baseball at to go. My favorite team, the New York Mets. They get Mike Piazza from the Florida Marlins. I'd start following the Mets and that's your number. What is P Yachts of? Yes, Mark. Oh, my God, I'm going. I'm going home early. I said it was going local fine. Could have done that at number five. Whatever name it's in the midst of my favorite team. It's the first time you okay, The Indians are my favorite team. I was gonna make policy. You know, in the honorable mentions I was gonna put in the top five. I told you you're allowed to go like personal or local of those fine. Hey, said that beforehand so you can't criticize me. But again, I start following the team in 93. They lost the 100 games and 93..

Those exact word was like like wayne gretzky and now what. Dustin johnson violently got his his green jacket and it was in the way riley. There's no fans roy to see it. But he had such a one of a kind round as far as four rounds of golf like he finally did it. He has a history of kind of last Last round is kind of falling apart. A little bit this a little bit. "At the end of the day everyone was going to criticize the whole benching. Wasn't there. you weren't at the facility watching this team. You weren't at the facility seen to a play and practice like he. Weren't you see what. We saw. On sundays and thursdays and saturdays or whatever whatever game. You're playing with kobe. You saw him standing on the side of his helmet on or off. Way to talk to ryan. Hey ryan how was the fee. How was the game. That was nice. Pass you had like to. We didn't see any of that. So the dolphins made the move and now look at the six to three and they are actually competing for the division title. I still i still have the bills winning the division but dolphins are there now like patriots are whatever dolphins are there and the jets we know. Are god awful to watch just terrible but an listen for justin herbert for the kid. Because you know he's doing all that he can make you really doing all. He can for the charges but they're just not finding ways to win. So you just know that going forward. We have a quarterback. We have to find a way to win with him. So what did he need. Maybe get him some more help. Maybe defense needs to be built around. I understand they don't have zero. James was definitely x factor on defense. But you just really feel for her because you know he's trying all he can. I know that we ten no. He's tired of losing. He just wanted to find a win going forward. So i want to close the show kinda talking about a story when i actually met wayne gretzky and kyw. She's funny because so few years back. I was working at my current job and we found that wayne gretzky was coming in to do premature business at our job. If i got my way. I just don't like to give the name of my job for people to know what i do outside of my podcast so if keep saying my job my job that's why people are gonna say oh. Why don't you just tell. I just don't want people to know. And i know you probably find albaladejo. Iran does not say it but anyways going back to the store so we found the wayne gretzky was coming in and i was trying so hard to greet him and he finally he finally showed up and he showed up..

Breaking Down the Quarters and Semis for the KR Contenders Playoffs

"Let's dive into our predictions for I guess we'll do predictions and then matches them predictions and matches will go in order here. So first match. We both got right. Yep Yep whoop do. We knew that team B M was not up to the task against Wgn Phoenix, and that's what happened. W just think took the three one against them I. Actually yet the three one which is actually kind of surprising because. Outside of an absolute banger that will talk about a little bit later this was the only other one that didn't go three Oh. Team. VM being able to squeak out that one map made it interesting for all of seven minutes and then. wgn Phoenix was like Nah. We're We're. Shutting you down. Yep and that one map was Lee. Shang where we saw Sung Chan gets some key hacks onto as tax on the. Road at least twice I think. You kinda tried his best to. Negate as tech but as we talk about here in the next couple of matches. Stack is shown to be really solid like you had like I think one match that we watched last week or two weeks ago where I felt when it was from. But like there was some issues dying on Bussan but beyond that, especially in these playoffs matches really leveled up. So that team tried their best to try to counter him and they did on the first map but beyond that w kind of took off and really the only other thing that I noticed outside of that. They were playing real chaotic, not super super structured. Just looked discombobulated, and then you get over to a new business and protect literally holds onto his grab for like foil. Yes and it's like there was there was a bunch of times where he could have used it. Either defensively to save some of his teammates and extend the team fight or initiate with an potentially win team fight and Nope, he just sat on it and then when he did use it, he threw it to lake. Horizon Lunar Colony I think because it just went nowhere got nothing and then they just got absolutely destroyed. Yup Listen to Wayne Gretzky protect you miss one hundred percent of the grabs you don't take so. You just gotTa. Do It man you just got? To. It's also a Hawker reference or an office reference depending on what what realm of the world you're in. The other thing too is like every minute that you're not using a graph building. You're not building graph and like if you hold a grab for like three minutes, you could've used a grab that it was like okay and then had another grab by basically the same time So. Yeah it's it's tough and like if you don't have the opportunity to use a grab at all because they're diva is constantly all over you and you don't have the counterplay or they're playing way to spread, then you probably should go on something else. That's better. Pick anyways and use the grab throwaway goldfish swimming dvr, go switch Sigmar anything else. There there's been a lot of issues that we're seeing a lot of the losing teams. They're. They're just like kind of shooting themselves in the foot with like playing what they should be. On the other side man wgn. Phoenix Lake after watching this match. I got really high on this tangle. Especially, ABC Z. Bag has been. Okay. But Gables specially was. Studer Pitt where you saw pack jump up, get damage onto. The Echo over the ACA was even. On. Haven, yeah then. He drops down back behind the cover again, and then you saw gable see right behind him come up boost up finish off the damage and then go back and then Win So comes up to resum they both dive a again and kill him as well. They open it up with two free kills and literally just roll beyond that. So I think that like one of the things especially it's been the tank line coordination for this team. In another team, we'll talk about later. Like it really sets these teams up apart like with the DP s with the one diver as well with the tanks in the one dive deep. Yes as well like. If, you have three people hive minded together you you will find success in grin contenders. And then another name on wgn that you're going to hear. US Talk. A lot absolute tyrant about is ace. When ace is on? The Sambre. Do builds EMP's insanely quick. But then on a newbies, they push team B.. M. Back to the spawn. And then they're like, you know what we got like a minute and a half left we're just going to go sit in front of the spun. And s just sits behind him and mainly heck's the supports like one clip supports drops an EMP. Like gets half of the team just absolutely bullying the back line of Team B, m on a newness and. Team B. M. had no response to ACE's play when he was running the sombre. and. It's super unfortunate that like he's only played this one pick at least what I've seen so far Inoke s on the hog. So good is unmatched in cream contenders I think I, think he might. Only, backed by MAG. But we'll see about that. Hit like he just every time like he forces other people to not play against him because he will just out a out mechanics them out strategy them and like just knows how to play better gets incredible. Pickoffs especially on Havana you saw him on the hog and Gable soon, the sigma they full hold team b. m., there as well So, like this tank line. Alternating CPAC and iino cast depending on whether or not. They're gonNA play the Winston saw shrine oranges run the Road Hog quite often because I think this was still on the playoff patch or like the wwl. Finals Patch. It'll. It's as strong three players on that team like they. Really. Really benefited from there, strong line here and gables the again like we talked about his diva being incredible signals also incredible as well during the scrappy last minute fights where there was a chance that team b. m. was going to be able to. Squeak out the first point actually cap it. he just stayed alive sustained had some good old good rocks Just good play and I think got like a couple of kills here there's also. You're going to start seeing a couple of these names come up next week when we talk not only about Plants and stuff like that but also on recommended. Pickups for teams in the off season because. Couple of teams might be going full Korean here and. There's a lot of new blood that's rear and to get some Odell time in. So I'm excited to see that I actually can't wait to talk about that team that I think is going full Korean 'cause. It's GONNA be interesting to try to put together. A bunch of players out of Korean contenders to slot into that team or and see how close we can get to actually hitting the. the mark on how many people get pulled from creon contenders.

2020 Ruby on Rails Community Survey with Robby Russell

"Today will dig into the results of the twenty twenty ruby on rails community survey. So. Robby. Great to have you back and I'd love to start off by asking you why planet Argonne conducts the survey. Questions. So when I have to answer every few years, even to my own employees, like why are we doing this and so the the origin story isn't the first several years of employees, Plato Oregon being a part of the ecosystem we part of our service offerings was hosting for rebels, applications and. So two thousand I think it was two thousand eight to give or take we. We were we were realizing that we're lagging kind of investing and keeping up with some of the new ways of how servers and such were being managed how applications would be deployed, and so we really let's write a survey of the community to get a sense of how people were currently hosting how much they're spending on hosting and what versions of rails. They're using a bunch of other little tidbits related to that. So that kind of like help and we promise that we would share all the results of everybody minus everybody's email address. So that way we could be okay. Here's kind of like the state of the industry when it comes to deploying rail. So that was our first version of that survey and through. That survey admittedly, we realize, okay, we're way behind on a number of these kind of advancements in the deployment world. So we ended up saying we're going to basically kill off our hosting part of our business and we ended up selling that to another organization in we're just GONNA focus on coding related projects and consultative services there. So that's how it started. and. So two years later like Oh, let's do it again but we're going to modify to be a little bit more inclusive, just the broader community and we got rid of some of the questions related. We still keep that in their some of that in there, but we don't get into like budgets in the same way we used to we done so became. There weren't really any other surveys around the time that were really pulling the rails community to kind of get a sense of Persian rails you're running and how large is your team, and where are you and what gems are you relying on and which ones are frustrating to work with in what's keeping like, what are some of the challenges your teams having, and so it's became a thing. We started running every two years so that we could then share back with the community. And just to kind of get a pulse on where things were moving which tools. Use things in their related to what database servers you're using. And we can see trends over the years like their their services if you go. Over that time you could also, you can put the new survey results. You know you can go back to two thousand nine and compare every couple years and see that there are services that existed back. Then the no longer exists and nobody's using there's also scenarios where like I one point say squall was largely the most popular database in the community, and now it's completely flipped around where post grass is the most popular and I have some I understand why that's happened but. It's interesting to kind of see those trends over the over the years, and so it's more of a curiosity that we have in a way that we can every couple of years interact with the community and and kind of like catch up on a few different ways than than share that information back with the community again. Well. I. Think it's a fantastic project. You do a really great job of gathering the data and then turning around and displaying a very nice site in order to view that data. Of course, we will link all this in the show notes and listeners I suggest pausing the episode and reading over the results, and then we are going to dig into some surprises that I came across. A lot of the results were what I expected as Robbie noted post Gretzky while continues to dominate. The defacto performance monitoring tool and the folks that did take the survey which was over two thousand people wholeheartedly agreed that raises their server side framework of choice. So, for the one question, you are primarily building monoliths are micro services twenty five percent answered hybrid. and. So Robby, what circumstance would you take hybrid approach? So? That's a good one the. I'm always curious about. Work in the consulting world where we inherit and work on a lot of other people's projects and so quite often most rails applications likely unless they've started maybe in the last five take years. Are Likely to start off in kind of a Monolithic Forum. In Oh, let's move into a more of a micro services approached and so they start maybe. Breaking off pieces of it that way so I think it's it's. Just inherent in the kind of well, we WANNA start experimenting with micro services. So here's a segment of our application. We're GONNA break off. Move into do micro service. So I think that's that's how that comes about. You know I don't know if the I don't know what I expected. The numbers look like they're. In some ways I think I'm surprised that bashing maybe more not the more common answer like a higher number in some ways but. It's but I don't. I can't speak for everybody but it's kind of like my theories because a lot of evolution of iterating on an existing application like, okay. How do we start moving in this direction and then whether they're going to go like full micro services or Ni-, you know basically like strip back the core part of the application what have you but. I think that's someone of my theory

"At rb computing 235-minute and place suite one zero six in bells corners. I will happy birthday to Wayne. Gretzky belatedly who celebrated his fifty nine th year the same age as him right. Nice I am so so entering your sixtieth year old. I can't believe Steve. We didn't although there was a terrible traction yesterday the Kobe Brian Tragedy tragedy but at some point being the biggest Wayne bootlicker I never. I never wished him a happy. That'll cost you on the on the podcast. Hopefully he's not listening. Well hopefully is back. Whatever say I can't believe that ever say I hope they're not listening well Jim and that's we're all about here? Okay we're trying to and Wayne's welcome anytime you're probably going to want to clear that up Jimmy me before we did our first podcasts. That you're not all about getting listeners. Okay that's a bit of an issue. I'm here to repel listeners. I hope we're down a few Titi Stephen. What's the count? Are we down for anyway. Happy birthday the `grats anyway. He's is a big part of the All Star game as he often is and he was the honore captain for the Pacific Division and the In the skills competition I guess I don't know why you need an honorary captain there. But he was always he's always a part of the fun and And of course accepting all kinds of media in terms of interviews and Gretzky said he continues to believe Alex Ovechkin has has a legitimate chance to break his. NHL Record of eight hundred ninety four goals and he'd like a front row seat when it happens. I'm a big believer records and made to be broken what I accomplished accomplished. I'm proud of very hard to do what I did. And it's really hard to do what he's doing now but there's no question in my mind that is a real legitimate chance of doing it. The two things she needs staying healthy and he's proven that over his career. He plays hard and stays healthy. And secondly you gotta be a good team and he plays a good team. So are you saying that he'd be okay with it. He'd be like Rooting for the guy to suppress it. And I'm calling bs on that one as as competitive as Gretzky is and you Saad. They put out a video of it. It's been floating around the Internet forever of this old video of Gretzky when he looked like he was in his early twenties in a foot. Race with Palay EH. Sugar Ray. Leonard and Bjorn Borg. I think was in there as well and he looked like that guy will compete. I'm sure over anything. So he saying the right things here but I'm not sure I buy it his role now in you know after he retired a lot of guys go through. What am supposed to do now? You know that my life is completely over as a as a professional athlete which has been all consuming. And what do they do and and he never had any issue any issue at all with retiring and always knew after that he would play a great role in promoting the game a hockey. But the reason I believe and I really do believe this to be true. That is response to that question that I hope Alex does achieve it If you went that far is because it would be great for the game a hockey to continue to have people setting records right and I'm almost sure that's why he would say well. I like that. He's taken the attitude. I agree with it. I didn't think he would take the attitude kind of almost feel like you're diminishing your own accomplishments but it was so so so much easier to score. When Gretzky was in his heyday? It was ridiculous for so many reasons that we've chronicled again. And again on the Shell and refer veg skin to be approaching seven hundred with the way the game is played. Now I don't know I. It just boggles the mind that this guy is doing what he's doing in this era when everybody is so organized defensively when the goaltending is what it is The skill level off the charts. And he is going to become this year the the third player in NHL history to have fifty goal seasons nine times to tie with Gretzky bossy there and Gretzky and Bossi played in in a different era when it was considerably easier to score goals and for a Veg GonNa get fifty in his era. I'm more impressed by Ovechkin. I Call I Kohl Alex Ovechkin the greatest goal score in Nhl History and Wayne recognize recognizes that too. There's no doubt in my mind right all all. You GotTa do look back at hockey the late seventies eighties but I don't think he's records in jeopardy honestly. I think it's a it's a nice idea. Nice thought and everything that someone in. Today's Eric could do it. Well veterans get thirty five in September. If he gets fifty goals this year he'd be the second oldest guy in NHL history fifty goals in a season so that would be an amazing racing career to that point. It's a hall of fame career first ballot but now has Gretzky was talking about one of the keys to this whole thing staying healthy and think that was you know by design that he threw that. Very first thing you've got to stay healthy. Because and he would know as a guy ran into what all kinds of neck problems the last few years before we packed it then I think at age thirty eight. It's you know that age to pop out four. More fifty goal seasons starting at age thirty five live. That would be a tall order. He's been healthy to this stage. But it's a lot harder to stay healthy in those last five years of your career. Now before we go on the topic of tracking records I WANNA go back to the NHL. All Star skills competition for a moment. If you're watching that thing thinking there's some you know legitimacy to any of it it was a little in there but when I see Al macinnis. WHO's like in his mid fifties now? Oh roll out there with his old wooden Coho And that's a guy that obviously back in the day had The hardest shot in hockey. But he rolls out there in his mid fifties and gets one ceremonial shot and anybody who beats his his speed They'd get a whole bunch of money that they get to donate to charity so he goes out there and takes a shot and he's one hundred one miles an hour. Wow and I'm like Al macinnis career at the All star skills competition. Listen I don't think he ever had one hundred and one and yet he's out there with a wooden stick in his mid fifties and now he's still this blast and then like that and it was embarrassing for the guys guys who followed old dude. There's cracking into one hundred one. The first few guys like in there in the nineties somewhere. Like what the Hell's going on here and the other was. They changed targets so that their electron ICK now the the ones that are made a foam and they explode when the guys is would hit the targets and the accuracy contest. Yeah I liked it so yeah it was good. And and they've they've they've kept it but what they've got now is a little high tech action so it's basically a piece of plexiglass with all this animation. So if you hit the target it just electronially crumbles if you fall I got I gotcha kind of animated. If you will trouble was guys were hitting the target and nothing would happen guys. I would miss by ten inches. And the thing would crumble so it was a bit of a mass a bit of a Gong show as far as the NHL tracking of things. Yeah the skit skills skills thing in hockey is just perfect right. It's like you know if you're going to be really skilled show me. The Guy Weaving his way through five guys during a game name and scoring right. Yeah the whole hitting the target. Shit I don't think it's really good because it's very rare right with the guy rips off four in a row right when they do it right and and again at the end I'm like okay. That's great but fuck. He's only got fifteen goals right. He's not that skilled field. What about the skill where you know because you know there's always if think about game seven of the Stanley Cup final and a player ear? We'll get the PUCK and he'll be up in the stands in the third row with the PUCK and he'll lob shot one hundred and twenty five feet at a target of some kind. That's pretty standard right like that's a that's an important skill that needs to be part of that skills competition right. Yeah because that's what they did. That was actually one of the skills skills in the skills competition seriously. Yeah they were actually literally in the stands and the puck out onto the ice. They're we're up in the second deck. I think it was behind the goal. Oh and they set up this gigantic. I Dunno look like about a ten by ten foot target with a netting netting inside and yeah they'd have to fling a pock all cheese and then they brought in Brad Hall at one point just out of the blue and say I want to bring Dan someone who's Because Ryan Reilly chance to tie it and I think it was Mitch Martyr. Patrick Kane eventually won but he could tied them if he makes his last shot. Says I want to call in someone from the bullpen and they brought in Brad Hall and immediately the Blues Fans are all going we went blues. We lose and he gets up up there and just has one of the most miserable shots one can even imagine he. They gotta do that. They got a board for the sport of basketball. Steve Played Horse out in the driveway. Yes it's all right. It's like you got to repeat my shot right. Remember that I remember that it's like okay or you get an H.. H I'm going to go. Here's the deal because it's to play on the Larry Bird Magic. I think it was Michael. Jordan Larry Bird thing okay off the backboard down off two seats into the net right. It's that good. That's that that that's what that skill reminded me off right. And but let's just do it on the Ice Stevie. Okay I'M GONNA leave around that fucking mannequin. I going to do a Spin Rama and and then I'm going to do the Lacrosse all right. We've done enough damage here. We've done enough damage. Shouldn't be back with final thoughts in just a moment. Everyone needs insurance but that doesn't mean.

"Uh-huh all right time for everyone's favorite part of the rain drake's hoc you. Podcast is throat punch. And Ray. I've I've got something special for you bulldogs all right now. The problem is I don't know how to shut it off. Hold on the part working on it right all. Come on. Shut it off series. Obviously that's the penalty box from the world junior hockey championship in the Czech Republic. And I've got a feeling that after hearing at one time. That was enough for us at fair. I can't stand that song. Now this is this is what people I don't think understand so we're doing two games a day. Most people were watching the Canadian Game. And maybe part of the other game though in the first game. Say there's ten penalties ten times. I hear that Song the Canadian game. There's seven penalties that seventeen times a day. Somebody thought that song was a great thing to play as a player. Any pressure filled time goes to the penalty box. It sounds like it reminded me of the old Benny Hill thing. Benny Hill theme get. I hated it. I couldn't even I. It would come on and you'd be like I can't even ignore it how much I dislike. Know what it was called. I think it was called Charlie Charlie something. I'd like to meet Charlie. Tell him to beat it. So Charlie gets a throat punch for sure what is going to take away from the throat punches as you were playing the song people can't see you were kind of dancing and shoulder shuffle gone. I'm not I can see. I can see why Holly thought you were a great idea back in the day. Oh what a smooth dancer. Hey you know how we met by the way It was actually I if you're old enough to appreciate this but in small town I'm GonNa say Canada but it was a Western candidates. Scotch when they used to bring in. When the ice was out in the summer they would bring in like a Roller Skating Company. Right and once a week. There'd be like a roller skating party in the Land Bird Arena Landaburu schedule. And that's where hall and I met for the first time I was like fourteen. Fifteen at the time admire skin-tight GW. Jeez on sweet ass. Like I mean really really nice and on top of that. I was wearing a Pittsburgh pirates. Remember the old Pittsburgh Pirates Hats. That were lawsuits. I mean like coke wouldn't want she's always human anyway. It wasn't my dancing. It was a masculinity on roller skates. Not Blades Skates these. Things had four wheels man. Did you have your own? No which is. It's a personal pet peeve of mine. That's the reason I don't go bowling and roller skating. Gross me out because I'm wearing somebody else's toe jam and I'm not digging it. Yeah I can bring your own socks to bowling. Oh yeah I wear socks but I guess they sprayed them. I don't know what they're sure. They did back in the eighties. Spreadable rights anyway. This is what happens when you bring pauly or tiny. I've always got a story right. And then they're usually ridiculous. That's good but my throat punch goes to the goal song because I couldn't stand it bugged me. I would give a secondary one to Corey. Perry for his play in the game. Yeah because it's funny. You can defend if you want but the stuff piles around the same guys all the time. It's coming from the side. There's only one place you're gonNA hit the player. And that's Ryan Ellis. Yeah there's only one place I didn't like that place. Oh did you think I mean five was the maximum without the in person hearing so I thought it would have been Alderman. Yes absolutely I just. I don't see how there was any other result that was going to happen from trying to make a hit right in that position. Well Yeah I'm not struggling with this but it's it's not as defined as I would like it to be normally the throat punch as you've described is it's individualized. It's either again. Your candidates Corey Perry for the five game suspension. Being perhaps a bit light for dirty play or the penalty box song. I get that I'm going with anyone who continues to oppose more three on three overtime and I get it be as I've talked to general managers about this coaches. There's at least a hint of concern that you're going to stress overplay your top dogs your top players because those are the players that are going to be out there in ending standard window of three on three but I've also talked to players and I've talked to goaltenders and there wouldn't be many who prefer the shootout over an extended three on three so my throat punch goes to anyone who says now we're good with what we have five minutes with three three overtime and leave the shoot up and in fairness that might go all the way up to the Commissioner's Office because Gary Bettman as always been a strong proponent and advocate of the shooter for me it's an individual's skills competition. I want and need more three on three. I don't I don't understand the on board with the debate over it. You know it's more ice time for your stars while if it is than us some other guys yeah right now because the the shootout. I liked it when it first came in I was on board with it. I'm like this well. Then all of a sudden there's too many games going to shootout and I'm like It's not that overtime. Toronto and Winnipeg last night was spectacular. Well they're not always spectacular right all the time they you know you don't get the best version you know you guys kind of. They're going to control the park. They're GONNA come back to center. Whatever it might be. I would much prefer that to me. That's closer to real hockey. Then you have to You know to the shadow and the reason that they will always look for an ending is because the ties were just they were unpalatable to the North American audience. Like in soccer. You have tie on the European tie it just finishes tie basketball they play. They don't go to a free throw shooting contest or three or three point shooting contest. They play overtime till it ends. I would prefer that too. I'm with you on this all right. We've got to ask Ray Andrey coming up. Do you WANNA play. You want me to play Charlie one more time Ray. Is we leave throat punch or should I just let that Rusk? I've I've almost had enough of Charlie You know what's really been interesting to drake's is how many people send it to me on twitter at me to the group that will be tweeting it at in the very near future perhaps as part of the limited promotional work that you do in supporting the rain breaks occupied cast on. These are all right. Let's go between the benches and we're gonNA start with a positive and then we'll shift over to somewhat of a negative story. Line your thoughts on the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Arizona coyotes if you look at the Columbus Blue Jackets radio months ago we're talking about Columbus. What is going on with the Blue Jackets? I mean at that point a month ago their way out of the playoffs and you know all of a sudden now. They're right the thick of things yet again yet. Well it's funny. I would say that you know we. Can you know we? It's pretty easy to to point out. What what amuses us at times from from John Tortorella when he snaps at the podium when he you know any is so fiery. The Guy can coach because their team was decimated in the offseason. They lost rate. Now are Tammy perine had sixty points New York. So they lose him they lose Brodsky. They've got to totally unproven. Goalies and Yoenis corpuscle. Who got hurt and Elvis? Moore's Lincoln's there forward group is just gutted with injury and yet now they've got fifty points on the season there. Ten One and four in their last fifteen games. They're they're at the second wildcard spot two points behind Philly two points behind Carolina I find it astounding and of course nobody really notices or none of us really pay much attention. But you're like damn they're doing unbelievable and I think it has to be knowledged Arizona's We talk it on earlier and talk to him. About what A. What a great job. He's done in the coyotes of done. This division is jammed up. You've got between first and fifth. You've got four point separating teams but Arizona's at the top of the heap. They got twenty five. Wins the both goalies on a lineup? Anti rant is hurt again and Darcy Camper got hurt now. It's down to goalie three Eden Hill and they went again talks. Done an amazing job out there but getting Taylor Hall adds another level to their team. Kessel start to warm up to the deal and they're not going to be an easy cure and some credit to John. The general manager. Who knows I mean? That's that's a coup that's a big deal and acquiring Taylor all may not be done between now and and the trade deadline. If you pay much attention to this I think you do you know it's always fun. When you see basketball players tee off show personality we see it in the NBA. Of course we see it and in the NFL to some degree on occasion. You see it from baseball players. Rarely do we see just pure personality from NHL Stars? There are a handful. There are a handful. I everytime Brad Marchand opens his mouth. I want to hear what he has to say. And and there are other players who are like that because they're not afraid of the media and they've figured out a while ago that you know what it's part of brand building is part of brand building now you can go to the extreme with. Pk Superman but then you can take it all the way back to Connor mcdavid. Who clearly doesn't doesn't love the camera. He knows that you know being captain of team matters and he has to speak with the media. I don't that he's. He's intimidated at all by media. I just don't get the sense of the enjoys doing it. Is that missed opportunity by? Nhl Players in failing to build their brand because they're not embracing the opportunity to give us more. Yeah it's it's a mess. It's a mess by the players in. It's a missed by the league. Now the league brings in the top players at the start of the year they have that media junket and they film a bunch of commercials and things that get shown throughout the year. Like I saw him You know the magician. That's doing all these tracks with the players. That's all done at the media tour. I really liked that stuff. Because you see the guys are laughing trying to figure it out now. Not Every interview has to be a grand slam but what happens too. Often I think is the players so either are uninterested or distrust what the interviews about. They don't give anything and it's not that you have to give up deep dark secret. Just pretend to be entered to to be interested watched Kesari cap and in the other day. Do over the boards interview before the game and I and I guess I am picking on him but I don't really mean to. It's just the latest one.

"Was probably becoming predictable and then when the players start to smell it then you really have to make a move. You like they were traveling. When the heroics of this effort came into play in Toronto Connor mcdavid goal versus the Toronto. Maple leaves on Monday. I know you've seen it obviously multiple times. I mean when you see once you've got to watch it a dozen times just to to make sense of what connor mcdavid did Morgan Riley and the impact. He finishes in in scoring an unbelievable unbelievable goal. You know we use goal of the year as as Cliche but I mean this one has to be an early. Favourite candidate is hitting the hot for two thousand twenty. I assume something might be able to challenge it but the sheer brilliance of what he did at the speed he did against the defenseman. That is a hell of a player and Morgan Riley. Now you put it all together and I mean it was. It was a thing of beauty it really was and I did watch it. I was on the plane I saw you know on on twitter and then I watched it again and then I watched it at home and like one of the things I was most terrified of in the NHL was getting a pass. And then having a one on one against the defenseman. Because I knew I could never beat him. No matter who was back there was no chance that I was going to be able to get around this guy. And then you got the whole rink looking at you like this kind of embarrassing. Because I can't get by the guy that guys were good and I can't get by him. That's not my game and he took it and just undressed riley like it was spectacular. I mean the edge work this. Yeah the deception. It was all there is. It was a thing of beauty. His level of confidence mirrors his athleticism and creativity. I think that's why I expect the unexpected now and as as glorious as that goal was and it probably will be the the goal of the year. I'm waiting for the next one because I know there's going to be a next one from Connor mcdavid. I. I can't debate it. I just I'm trying to figure out how could look if a better his ability to go super fast in one direction and then changed. Directions without losing speed is astounding. I would say is I think about the changes in the game with the players. That ability across the board is has grown more and more to the player's ability to change direction on their edges without losing speed. We couldn't do that. We could change directions but it took a lot lot more time than this. I mean that that stuff is broken. Thinking of the guys I think a Jack Eichel how he changes directions right like these. You can go across that nate McKinnon like then of course Mick Davids the. It's the prime. He's he's number one at at all. Well Wayne Gretzky perfect seat in Toronto. Watching that game no question. He was out of his seat in celebration in the Mcdavid goal he`ll. He'll join us on the rain rigs hockey podcast. Coming up shortly. speaking of greatness. And you know it's it's a category that we have to put mcdavid in now. Obviously Wayne Gretzky for many top of the list. Alexander Ovechkin Ray. Six hundred eighty four goals scored two against the Ottawa. Senators in our wrote of the sense Earlier in the week. I mean it's conceivable now tied for eleventh. All Time in goals was six hundred. Eighty four with James Salani. It is conceivable is it. Not that he could. He could catch Gretzky's eight hundred ninety four. Now there's a two hundred ten goal gap as we're recording the podcast here. Who which isn't chump change by any means. But are you a believer that it could be done? He's thirty four or do you just get. It's it's an impossibility at this stage. I don't think it's an impossibility in the reason I don't is because obese game in my opinion will age pretty well because he'll still be able to get to the front of the net not as often but he's still going to wait two hundred and thirty pounds. He's still going to be a horse. He's going to get in there. You can stand there like a statue in the left circle and score ten to twelve goals. A year can score thirty year. Thirty five goals a year. We have another fifty goal year. Pass this one in. Because he's GonNa need a year or two. That are big ears. Yeah so what does he have now? Does he have twenty nine. Twenty eight something like that. Yeah we don't want to say twenty six. That sounds right. I think he was twenty four going into that Ottawa game. So is going to be near fifty again you know. Can he do it again? One more time that that's going to be critical to whether he can score of these two hundred ten goals you know. He's going to have to have one big year. He's going to have to average near thirty five goals a year. It's possible I hope he gets close and I think Wayne would hope gets close to because the excitement for the game would be astounding like the records that could be challenged. Just think the most all time goals that that would be amazing. Now Wayne is both most humble person. You can come across but I would never cheer for anybody to break my record away. Plus Stamkos has as four hundred nine plus. Now he's all right right and I saw. Her name was was was an achievement. No question yeah. I saw this thing like He was You know it was quite a milestone for him you know. He was really excited about passing it. I was hoping it was going to go into a six year slump. Be Honest with you. I'm sure you were by the way one thing about lovie because I think he's GonNa get close. I'd like you'll be in the ballpark anyway. Put it that way whether he gets there or not. I guess is is. It's you know we'll we'll we'll find out but it's astounding. He did this. You know the the number of goals he's got to tie Salani. That's three hundred less games. I know and also think about three hundred less games. Amazing what he's done well and that's six hundred and eighty four goals in eleven hundred twenty nine games and again just as a as a point of Reference Wayne Gretzky scored eight hundred ninety four goals in fourteen hundred and eighty seven. Nhl Game Salt provided over. You can stay healthy. Obviously you know we're saying he's got a chance Let's kick over the Montreal Canadians. Wrap up top five rape. They lost to the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday. Seven-game winless earlier. This season are seven-game winless. Now as we're recording earlier this season they went through an eight game winless stretch. They've now lost to the Detroit Red Wings three times this year. They could miss the playoffs for the fourth time in five years can can you make sense of this because the market in Montreal is getting warm right now and starting to point fingers and call out names? Well I can make some sense of it on a couple of things that that really are tied together. Montreal doesn't have offense that's GONNA come from explosive players guys that can change the game. Standalone player you know. Their offense has to be across the board right. It has to be depth. It has to be one through four lines. They have to play really near the top of their capabilities to be a successful team while Joel. Armenia has had a fantastic area thirteen goals last year. Got Eleven now. And then he's out along with Brendan Gallagher you know. They're they're top score along with Paul Byron along with Jonathan Drouin. Who had been playing terrific hockey? So you ask any team or look at any team. They take four of their top nine. Four words out of the lineup. They got problems. If you don't have guys that can carry your team while then you got even bigger problems. That's kind of where Montreal is offensively more Berge and the GM said look. We want to stay in the race until the end of the month and we get healthy. I don't even know if they're in the race. Still no you know and so we can look at the immediate and then if you go back and take a look at their draft choices in the first round only from two thousand nine to two thousand fourteen with the trade of Michael McCarron Nashville. Six straight first round picks and they don't have anything for it not so good and those those guys are between twenty eight or twenty nine and twenty two at this point like. That's that's safe. Four of those six picks work you know and there's Nikita sure back and Louis Leblanc back in the day and Michael mccaren you know or those are three of them and they just Jared tenacity is another. They just haven't worked for them and they're paying the price for that So would you be among the chorus of preaching patients or do you think? Berge has to step up even as difficult as it is to make meaningful trades in season. It can be done. Otherwise have done it. He's done it. Would you be patient and allow the Montreal Canadians to meander forward? Missed the playoffs again. And do their work in the off season. Or would you be one would be preaching for Change at the state why? I don't think they can make anything happen right now. That will change the season. The only way I'd make a significant move now as if it if it has benefit going forward the problem Montreal has talked about the first round. Picks they've got some really good young talent and then they carry price Shea Weber in the middle part of that is really where the issue start to sit so. I don't know if you've ever tried to do two things at the same time. It never works no right. You're looking for your keys in your conversation. Now you forget what you're talking about is you're looking for your keys or you go to pick up your keys. And you forget the conversation when you straddle the fence you can catch yourself right in the middle do exactly. And that's where they are. They've got these. You know these stud older players in price who by the way has been not even average this year. His statistics are not even average and Shea Weber had a fantastic year. You've got them at one end of the roster then you've got a bunch of young guys that just doesn't work. They're trying to get younger and better. And then they've got these there twenty million dollars tied up in two players. I don't know how you make a meaningful trade now to fix that but getting into the draft. They've got to use some of their cap space. They could take players on that. Other teams are looking to create cap space with. Yeah you might be able to get high price player from somewhere else because they can afford it rather teams can't do that good stuff rape. We've got Wayne Gretzky. The great one coming up on the Rangers Hockey podcast. And of course a little bit later a weekly staple throat punch ask gray and grades.

"He's now playing professionally in Europe but at the tournament in Toronto at Twenty fifteen and Slovaks made it to the semi finals. They were chanting his name in the building. Eighteen thousand people chanting his name. Where is he ever going to get a greater moment than that? Was there pressure to it. Yup You bet there was and that's just the way it is the tournament itself Yes. Tsn has helped make it what it is. They've broadcast for thirty years but if this tournament was going on in the middle of the woods while would anybody care what anybody watch? Would there be anything to it. No of course not. This was an opportunity to connect to something that most of us feel when we watch our kids play our kids watch it on TV. Our Kids WanNa be these younger kids that we see Keel Akil Thomas with the winning goal or Barrett hate and plank through a shoulder injury or you know the brilliance of Alexi last frontier. They WANNA be these kids. What's I don't even can't even build a case for what would be wrong with that. No absolutely nothing all right well. We'll we'll exit the Czech Republic With this cute you had some issues getting to the Czech Republic. Well I know I mean you you eventually got. There has to fly along the way. I mean that stuff happens. Coming home was it. Flawless was again like clockwork smooth. Is June on broken glass? It was it was just fantastic. I I'm not sure if it's because I missed the flight on the way over. But somehow all my seating got thrown into the blender so we get to the gate to the check in counter and in Frankfurt Germany. And so I go check in get by Seating Passes Forty D. and twenty eight e. Neither of those are seats. That I'm particularly interested in also in there are no pods in the fortieth row. They're they're smaller pods. You Sit Upright frozen road and so I do fly one hundred and fifty thousand miles a year and I am kind of like a million and a half miles you also you kind of get moved to a more comfortable seat. There were no more comfortable seats. I'm not sure what happened so I'm at the gate. I'm checking in and the there's a connection that Mrs somewhere else so a seat in thirteen thirteen opens up man. I'm all over that like you can't believe so the the woman at the gate. She's really helpful and she says okay. This is your seat. There's still a chance you could get upgraded to business so now I'm like man. I perked up like this is going to be great. Yeah so I'm just waiting around the gate inch. I hear her say into her cellphone. Vonda bar and I'm like and then she hangs up and she turns to me and I'm like this is unbelievable like I just came from Forty D. and I'm going to end up in a pod and she goes good news and I said Oh. I just want like that not for you. The other passenger made so far not doing the bar for me so I ended up enrolled thirteen which was a hell of a lot better than forty. That's awesome and then if Gore had been on his game now if I were there there would be pictorial. Evidence of this would on another to light to Gordon other flight. Which was so. Gordon went Toronto going West but I will say this I will give Gord props. He put together this trip that that we went to Berlin to watch landon play. Yeah he put together a couple of other things that I would have never figured out. The trip turned out to be fantastic. We were we had a great time and come back and I'm jumping back in. What about the Tampa Bay? Lightning holy smokes. I mean before you left. I think in fairness many of us in the media were wondering with all the coaching changes and whatnot. You know with John Cooper survive and if the Tampa Bay. Lightning didn't respond in some fashion in the second half. What would you embrace bond do now? At the at the time of this recording here on Thursday the Tampa Bay lightning of one eight straight and their second in their division points percentage. I mean that's a fairly remarkable turnaround in relatively short period of time. It's amazing what eight games does for you and I think we're all kind of sitting around waiting for Tampa Bay to catch fire. They they got kicked in pants pretty hard last year when Columbus just shove them out of the playoffs not just that they beat them but they beat them in four games. Tampa looked The looked rattled when they when they got knocked out. And so I think the view was all will see how they respond. But they're not going to be able to really be evaluated until you get into into the playoffs and then pretty soon. October rolls around. They went into New York around the end of October. And they just got spanked. They got crushed and it looked bad so now they've got all these issues. Why checked in a little bit in Tampa and talk to a couple of people there and they felt that early on that. They didn't outside of that week in New York where they were terrible that they'd played. Okay didn't get any points in overtime. Because they never got any games to overtime they they lost didn't regulation so now they're a little bit behind the eight ball. They hadn't played as many games as everybody else sold their. You know your points are GonNa lag a little bit in the in their division. I was given this stat so this this kind of made me look at things a little differently in the Atlantic Division. They've been in the top. Three in points percentage for ninety of the first hundred days of the season. So while we're looking at the points it's really the percentage that matters because everybody's GonNa get to eighty two games anyway of actually right. So they were. They felt like they had played better and not were and weren't rewarded. I don't know if that's the case. All the time like there was another gear there in Tampa for sure but the things that they're working on drake's or trying to be they're trying to be harder in front of their net and in front of the other net. They're trying to take less penalties. Be More more disciplined. They've been practiced. They practice focused that they. They think they're making progress while this stretch would tell us it. They're probably a pretty good groove right now and no matter what happened in the first couple of months there. We are with Boston. Toronto in Tampa sitting at the top of the division again and in whatever order Boston's played themselves back to the pack the lease and the lightning. Or go on the other way. And they're gonNA Mishmash around for those top three spots in the Atlantic well while the Tampa Bay lightning round a good groove the Nashville predators in a nasty rut which ultimately cost Peter Laviola job. Peter Laviola out as head coach of the Nashville predators. John Heinz in tough start for John. Heinz I claim on on the bench. But you know it. Was this somewhat predictable. I guess the only reason I was surprised a little bit by it was the timing. The fact that David Paula general manager probably a week prior to said he wasn't contemplating coaching change but in fairness deployable he. Also then you know as part of the Media availability when the change was announced in hiring of John. Heinz was now said. Look you know the tipping point for me was the classic and how the the Nashville Predators essentially folded in in the outcome of that game man. Coaching is tough is I mean. It's tough but when you look the record of Peter Laviola divisional wins with national presidents trophy a trip to the Stanley Cup. Final do do you just Kinda Slough this one off by saying look every. Nhl Head coach has an expiry date and a shelf life and it was time for change. Why I don't I don't recall ever hearing anybody saying Peter. Laviola doesn't know how to coach your that or that is teams. Don't play style at the players like to play and I do believe eventually that you've got to change the record a little bit and by that. I mean that a coach is going to get let go. I don't sometimes it's not fair. I would say in Nashville. Peter had been there five years but the expectations are very high in Nashville. They've been so good for so long that the team seemed to have lost the reg there. They lost their their ability to play well enough for a long enough period of time to win enough games and so a couple of things. That always are red flags for me. I whenever a coach gets fired I look at I look at three things. immediately Look at the power play. I look at their penalty killing and they look at their goaltending And say what are those because the goaltending will always sink a coach anyway for some but the the special teams if they've got good personnel. Which Nashville does if they're not right. That's kind of a red flag for me. So they're powerplays twenty-third their penalty killing twenty nine. Not You know obviously very not nearly good enough. We know the goaltending has been awful. Aca Rene is sixty second in the NHL. Eight ninety four save percentage which would be fine except this backup is to behind him. Uc Sorrows is sixty fourth. And he's got an eight nine thousand two. You have goaltending like that. Your coach all of a sudden becomes pretty stupid. Be Good goaltending. The coaches really smart. So if you look at their team the goaltending has been good. The special teams haven't been good. They've had a good many players that have under achieved by a long shot kyle tourists. They're paying him. Six million bucks got five goals in thirty five games. He might benefit because pretty clearly him in. Lavi let were not even on the same page. They weren't even in the same book. Michael Greenland is a free agent. At the end of the year. He's got fifteen points is is lowest point total in thirty six games in right his career. Arvidsson got nine goals in thirty games. He's a hell of a player. But that's not nearly enough for him and Ryan Johansen who he traded Seth Jones for. Yeah right like they traded. Seth Jones one of the League's best defense and he's got twenty six points in forty two games so you mix all of that in the only guy that's really had a good year is Roman Yosi Llosa's on eleven game history l. Yet nineteen points. He leads. Filip Forsberg by fifteen points. So you gotTa defensemen leading your team in scoring by fifteen points..

"That was less springs. Stanley Cup, final and Wayne Gretzky's last goal ever as an Edmonton oiler today, the Stanley Cup champion, stunned Canada, and the world of hockey by trading Gretzky to the Los Angeles Kings. The deal, put the great one in the same city as his bride actress, Janet Jones. The Edmonton Oilers held a news conference to announce the trade. A weeping Gretzky announced that he and his new bride are expecting. Baby was my decision that I made. I probably had some people that that work with me that I kept in the dark a little bit. Too much, but it was something that I felt. Would benefit myself. And as I said, my family now. And. The Oilers are are great team with or without wing Gretzky in Edmonton fans still getting used to the idea of the Oilers without Gretzky. We've reached patrons at the bleachers sports on grill. Fides, Mary new Finland, as it happens, what are Edmund Tony is going to do? Are they going to stand for this? Everything I'm hearing is, is. "He's on the he's on he's in the club like along with wayne gretzky with ice that's a guy you got to consider i would say people get mad like barry bonds when we're talking about like teams guys that could do all things thing you're the kind of guy that doesn't like to compare apples oranges ever and this is one of the perfect examples where you gotta keep these guys in their own lane wayne gretzky's the greatest hockey player i ever saw play foreign away but you put them on a vast majority put it on a few of the anywhere gretzky was compared to the second greatest player of course you have mentioned that i mean he was amazed of course the end the talent level at this point where athletes are getting bigger and stronger and smarter and faster to even be considered one of the greatest one of the greatest athletes at your position or witting or sport is unbelievable enough i think it's very hard to compare and crossover and say well who is the best athlete lebron has unbelievable gifts the likes of which the of mobility and fled we have never seen with who knows if he could do the same thing with his accuracy the tom brady could or get a park in a little air that's so i think these guys are definitely at the top of the game i think it's very hard to say he's the greatest astle tom ability to perform added advanced age will always have whom in a very very special class his ability to build a give his team in champions that position will always have him in a very very special choir i believe i just yesterday are two days ago tom's with to win seven super bowls so when he's done you're gonna have to talk about in athletic non athletic he will be part of all conversations when you talk about the greatest who have done it in also and the ability to stay healthy like that's a huge like i give guys credit for that the longevity is me norm is part of this i i know there's almost nothing more cliche in sports talk in mount rushmore is so allow me to do one quickly if i could i the i try to think about this when we talk about the grace athletes of all time like what is what.
