"Rodge doing this with Diego Luna, just going through Mexican World Cup. And just like, yeah, America. Yeah. I love that analogy, but that suggests that there is enough of the Mexican population that needs a refresher on what we've done in world cups. And I'm afraid that's a uniquely American situation. My man. It's confident there's this code around the 16 again. Oh my God, but this night was. Yeah, at the age, you know it. God, I love that man. It's been on men in places. We are doing let's do that show around the 16 again. This was the horror thing. Of a truly funeral night in Houston. We were actually in World Cup qualifying at the same time, people. And in those days, the U.S. had to play multiple rounds to reach the final. In the fourth round, a group with such powers as Vincent and the Grenadines and Guatemala, we topped the group. But we managed to out of the way. I believe it's Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. But I like Vincent the Grenadines because that sounds like a doo wop group. Vincent and the Grenadines, I believe, I'm not Googled this, but I think there are clips of John kuka cover band that play our moderately priced Caribbean resort. All inclusive buffet included on two wheels. If I could one time in my life here, pink houses played on the steel drums, I will have truly lived. I'm not sure you've ever heard pink houses and if you played it on the steel jumps. If you got a bomb it's for coming up listeners, Vincent and the Grenadines. They are available. We managed to somehow lose a game in the way to Guatemala, which was really a warning shot for all to come. And meanwhile, subplot, we failed to qualify for the Olympics again with our youth team about the Olympics. For those of us, for those of you who are new to this whole tournament situation, there is a school of thought the Olympics are more valuable for the United States than they are for almost any other country in the world because our young players don't get to necessarily go to competitions as tough as the European Championship or the Copa América because we have just had some little gold cup. So when our players who are under 23, which the Olympics requires, get to go to the Olympics, they get the experience of a big tournament, which means when they finally get to play a World Cup, they have gone through. And it's just even just a little thing. The passports, the security, the boredom, the buses. It is no coincidence some would say that the 2002 World Cup team did so well because so many of them had come out of a really awesome run at the 2000 Olympics. I think we lost in the, I know we lost to Spain in the semis of the quarters. But then we had multiple Olympics in a row that we didn't make, which, by the way, is even worse in this country because we love the Olympics so much as a nation. If we had a good Olympics run with our soccer team, when the women do it, we're all on board. But if the mended it, we would be gaining new fans important new fans and we have failed to do it over and over again. And you can more than I think was meant to be building for a golden future. That was another symbol of just, oh, what are we doing here is really what was good on Klinsmann on extremely arid ground, but football don't sleep back into the final round of Concacaf qualifying and in these classical days for listeners who don't remember Concacaf qualifying was an elaborate process that sent you more rounds than the labors of Hercules, culminating in the hexagonal ghost by the catchy name of what Brendan. The heck. The hex trademark. I mean, it's like the octagon, but football 6 teams, games, home and away against each top three go to the World Cup, fourth goes into a playoff against another continent and it was Asia in this instance. And the U.S. had last failed to qualify in 1986. It was on the considered almost a lock for the United States to get out. A 100%. Yeah, three and a half teams emerged. How could we not have 6? I mean, with all respect to the other team in our lovely region who are not in Mexico, it's a two team region where three and a half teams go through. It is literally constructed to ensure that money making USA and money making Mexico are going to represent us in the World Cup. It is borderline, impossible for either of those two countries to not advance. Let's see what happens. Carry on. And by the way, Diego Luna, we are here for you, both of us can get through friendly. Yeah. Bring Gallagher. Yeah. Wait, I want to talk about Mozart in the jungle. Let's hang. This is gonna be great. We should do that vodka. By the way, other competence included Trinidad and Tobago. Population 1.4 million as large as made, Panama. I mean, I could go on and on, but the old adage was win your home games. Don't worry about the bags of piss. Sure that a flight you on the road and you get through and Brendan, when this thing began, November 2016, panic level about not making the World Cup, you know, the suspense for you. Where was it between like one and ten?

"Welcome back to the gmc soccer podcast. If you missed the last segment we went over. The goba america tournament talked about pretty much all of it. I mean i went a lot into peru peru fan and of course talked about the final and the journeys that each team took to get there and of course messy winning his first major trophy with argentina huge accomplishment for him. We went over all of that. So if you guys want to check that out please go ahead and do so. But now we're gonna talk about the gold cup. I actually recently covered a couple of gold cup matches. That happened over here in. Fort lauderdale Those from primarily preliminary matches. So i wasn't. They weren't any of the group stages. But i do want to talk about the experience i had and how fun it was actually being that environment with all these countries that have never actually covered ever and you know how was to see all these fans like cheering them on. So the first day. I saw haney versus saint vincent and the grenadines bermuda and barbados and trinidad and tobago in monster rat. And i'll tell you what man first day was. All blowouts. haiti defeated saint vincent. Six one. bermuda absolutely dominated barbados. Eight to one barbados whereas to get their first ever goal of the tournament in their history. So that's a little complement for them there. But they were absolutely blown out and trinidad. Tobago showed their dominance defeating monster at six to one as well and i'll tell you it wasn't fun. I mean there were a lot of goals scored some hat tricks a lot of fun to watch if your the winning site of course but if you're just a neutral fan it was you know just obviously one sided and it was tough to watch but i'll tell you what man haiti and trinidad and tobago fans came out and really cheered on their fans. It was really fun to see everyone. You pay Hey data everyone just you know yelling at out. I love their own little like chance. It was really fun to watch. Just you know those home fans like really cheer on their countries and being that environment it was certainly a a new experience for me in one. I certainly want to go back to in inexperience again. but yeah it was. It was pretty one-sided in from like looking at haiti and trinidad and tobago primarily those two. I knew were two of the better countries i was going to be watching in these preliminary matches and they certainly didn't disappointment. Just with their physicality the speed. They absolutely ran monster. Raton saint vincent off the field. Didn't give them a chance to do. Pretty much anything and for bermuda yet. They put up eight goals but there were some mistakes i saw from them. That you know barbados are just a very low quality side. They really could not match up with bermuda and to be honest from what i saw from them. I didn't feel like they'd be able to match up against a lot of the countries that were there but it was just a very one sided affair. Bermuda had you know two guys that were absolutely killing it. Let me see if i remember their names. It was Let me see if if it pops up wants to load for me. It was not key wells and psycho lewis two guys were really killing it for men were just you know creating everything for that side. And then on the second day i was able to see guadalupe versus bahamas. I didn't get to see the cuba versus french. jonah match because that would actually got suspended and jonah. Were able to go through. Because cuba could not get their visas and were able to be in the states for this match. Unfortunately and with everything already going on in cuba just another another thing. That doesn't need to happen to them. But unfortunately they were not able to participate in the first round of the preliminaries in they were automatically eliminated But then in the fourth in the last game i was able to see guatemala versus. Who's this again. Forgot who this team was but it was guatemala versus jonah. So yeah it was that yeah that guatemala fans. It was created by four the best showing of from from fans in that game for guatemala. And honestly both days because i also went to the second round of the preliminaries in guatemala. Were there by the first game. And they weren't playing until the third game. So i mean those fans certainly showed up and were therefore their fans for their home country and they showed up man. Guatemala destroyed four nil and made quick work of them mostly in the second half but but for the most for most part it was up. Pretty well organized gained from guatemala and they looked very strong throughout that game and What was it for the for the other games. Obviously we know about the cuba versus French john aside. They couldn't be played but then for lupe versus bahamas. I was actually 'cause i again. I don't watch the sides so i don't know. I assume the bahamas were a better team for some reason. Guadalupe looked very solid. even though they didn't dominate the game they you know did what they had to do. And got a to win over bahamas to move onto the next round and when you got there. These games were much more exciting. Two of them went to penalties and were Went to the death in penalties The first one was trinidad and tobago versus french. Jonah and It was a very exciting match. Even though i was expecting trinidad and tobago to absolutely mop french ginana but they were really keeping up with trinite out not allowing them to get behind the back line with their pace where they were consistently in the right positions and were surprisingly impressing with their play throughout this game and unfortunately for them when they got to penalties they were not able to close it out as trinidad and tobago able to win on that side. Eight two seven and yeah. They moved on to the group stage of the gold cup in for The other matches we had a candid nano candida. We had haiti versus bermuda..

tobago trinidad barbados goba america saint vincent haiti bermuda guatemala grenadines bermuda peru jonah cuba gold cup psycho lewis haney bahamas Fort lauderdale argentina soccer Raton

"Beck. We're yuliya the quia. Oh well you could be. I'm gonna be e. q. u. I this is an island in the The nation of the of saint vincent and the grenadines. Interestingly this is where my wife. And i went on our honeymoon sixteen years ago. Seventeen our whenever whenever we got married and i don't know exactly when i couldn't even tell you the year. Frankly i think it was two thousand and five And it says the caribbean island home to the world's first bitcoin community so they got the story. I'm going to read it. A caribbean housing developer is creating the world's first bitcoin community where residents will pay for property goods and services entirely in crypto currency. The first fully. Bitcoin enabled community will be set up in the quia in eighteen square kilometer. A caribbean island. That is part of saint vincent and the grenadines. So it'll be set up in this island. It is not that island so it's not like everything on the island. Is this way. But i suspect if you have one community pretty soon people will begin. Accepting certain cryptocurrencies. The project is a brainchild of real estate developer storm. Guns slaves Who gonsalves Who plans to build thirty nine luxury. Villas shops a clubhouse and buildings with this company one bequia residents will be able to pay for everyday essentials like groceries restaurants and entertainment and bitcoin as well as buying their property with the crypto currency. The property sovereignty. Over that what do you mean. The the the que- oh Saint vincent the grenadians sovereignty over themselves. They are a nation. I mean you know it's as much as a nation has sovereignty. I would say that. The only sovereign state places in the world certainly sovereign entities in the world are the united states russia and china. Sorry digress the The residents will be able to pay for everyday essentials like groceries and restaurants entertainment and bitcoin is wells by their property with crypto currency the properties ranging from six hundred seventy euros to one point. Six million euros. You get a quick off the top of your head You know Translation for that Dollars to euros. Yeah so six hundred. Seventy one and a quarter. Yeah something like that. So maybe seven hundred fifty eight hundred thousand dollars to one point eight million dollars one point. What are we talking. Yeah luxury villa. Yeah it can be. Purchased using crypto currency equivalents. Where prices are locked in to avoid fluctuations in price during the transactions speaking to the express which is a news agency. Mr gonsalves said that Buying property in crypto currencies will become a very normal thing to do in years to come. I think that's probably true right. Now we're pioneering an alternative form of financing. Were also pioneering a new way of marketing. I think he's right about buying property. Normally you don't have this Seller's market that's going on in many places in the united states especially especially here in the gulf coast the seller's market means that you're putting up a house for sale and people are bidding above the price listening just today that had a pricing said. Submit your offer and price what needed to offer for you. Got a price right And this is what's happening here in the gulf coast in many places around the net in the united states is that the seller's market right now with a seller's market. You can't say hey. I want to pay and bitcoin or something like that. But under normal circumstances you can make an offer and make it. Contingent upon the acceptance of crypto currency. And be much more likely that these things will happen right now seller can be like that sounds like a lot of work. I don't think i'm really interested in selling my property. You just take one of these other ten people that want to buy it right and So that's what's happening. I do agree. There are over one trillion in the dollars in the market cap of bitcoin alone. And many of these purchasers. I bought it when bitcoin was only a thousand dollars. So there's a lot of wealth in the crypto market that cannot be ignored anymore. it's just too large. It's really hit the mainstream. So i think that we're doing what we're doing is be to become one of the mill run of the mill. Excuse me in a few years from now. Crypto currencies could also Provide a solution to the financial challenges in the caribbean island. Communities can be cut off from mainstream banking facilities. That's true Bitcoin was designed by komodo to give the ability to bank to anybody who had a smartphone essentially or computer or whatever the smartphones back. Then yeah i. There were smartphones. But they weren't. They weren't terribly smart. But i think you could look at it and say you there apps. There were absent two thousand and nine. So i think you could have looked forward to say that. That's the case. But i don't know what the toshiaki motives thinking he disappeared. He she them they to bequia perhaps to buy a luxury villa for less than two million dollars. Residents of small island nations are finding it increasingly difficult to send and receive money internationally. Because of de risking by large international banks practice of removing an intermediary banking services from smaller community banks. So what they're finding is that You know weird. Things are going on with many these community banks so we're just not going to do business with them and this is truly happening. Big banks aren't making it easier for poor and disadvantaged people around the world to do business in the greater international community. They need the big banks. Why did the poor people while we just use cash app or something like that. I think that it's to get well so there's getting a piece of the pie and then there's growing the pie. They can grow the pie only so much they need to be able to buy things like concrete and wood and you know things like that to build greater communities on their own island So if they can't get those if they can't get access to money because money is in itself commodity they have to have access to it. I thought you were talking. We shifted our focus to poor people in general poor people in general. Yeah i mean that's true for people in general but this is the caribbean island anyway. this Gonsalves says this prevents the island-based banks from transacting internationally. If this trend continues it means small island nations will be essentially cut off from international trade and commerce for tourism based economies. This'll be devastating. And what we've seen is the during covid many of these island nations. They just the shutdown. I mean their economies shutdown and it was terrible for them. I am a resident of the us. Maryalice island where eighty percent of its gdp can comes from tourism and win. The governor felt like he had to shut down a plane flights from all around the world. I mean frankly. Tourism was at crashed weeks before that but Shut down the plane flights. I mean the only thing that they could do is beg the united states for relief. Money from fema and these sorts of things and they got it but these caribbean islands. They're not part of the united states. So they're not getting this relief money and they've just got to figure it out on their own and mostly what that means is everybody's doing without when it comes to you know Having money this prevents island-based banks from transacting internationally. If this trend continues it means small island nations will essential. Excuse me i. I read that way care. Tiki: Modern Tropical Cocktails with Shannon mustipher

"Shannon. Welcome to milk street. It's really great to be here. Thanks for having me. I love your book Tiki Modern Tropical cocktails. So. What does the Word Tiki me? Where does it come from and what is Tiki cocktail? Sure. So tiki refers from a cultural standpoint to religious practices and iconography from Polynesia, now, where cocktails are concerned Tiki termed applied retroactively. So in the beginning of the age of tropical cocktail, they were called exotic cocktails and we're talking about mid nineteen. Thirties California at don the beachcomber in Bay area then later trader Vic's in subsequent restaurants it was in the mid eighties early nineties when. Polynesian tropical culture enthusiasts mostly in California. Began research those bars and to look into brain those cocktails back that you started to see the word tiki emerged. Let's talk about some of the classics Don Beachcombers, Zombie. What's Zombie As army is a showstopper drink. Okay. So This thing has three different rooms in it. It has Grenadine, which is a pomegranate base, Schuss it Kinda crosses the line in terms sophistication because there's absent attitude shrink, which is a not to New Orleans Ed's more our baseness and you know Elvis's drink beyond the simple run punch that is based on issues like a pumped up. Kinda sexy around punch. and. You know there's some savvy marketing airs not just a cocktail that made it. Popular Abe was the limit two per customer. So people like trying to get it third on trying to order one their friend so I'm you know we're talking about the ingredients of design be, but I think what's the biggest ingredient? There's it's is cultural impact. The my tie. I didn't actually know what was in a my tie until I picked up your book. So what is a my time? Sure so The final change somewhat. But kind of simplify it. Is in most bars, a blend of Jamaican, and Martin Shem rooms or jaw, which is an almond based liqueur slash. Surp- Archer sow in line. Is Simpler to a lot of places make it out to be. What are some of the techniques like washing rumor bourbon? What does that mean? Sure. So washing means is essentially kind of. Another way of saying infusing. Dime Lee Campbell Cameras Bro an idea of taking rendered fat from Bacon. Adding it to whiskey. Giving time to sit at room temperature, and then later froze it so that the solids rose to the top and he skim it off and the result is you get this really Nice creamy texture and depending on what kind of fat we're talking about it can be smokey could be nutty. So as an example, I worked at restaurant called FINCH. Why did the? Same thing would smoked duck breasts fat and rum in the shrink was so crazy I loved to pieces. It was so easy like cheat I done it with coconut oil and rum's Meskel. It does all kinds of wonders no matter what spirit using but it's just a nice way to add a Roma and body and viscosity and just kind of smooth on the out. You must how many okay. In your bar, how many different bottles that you have I stopped counting at one hundred I thought it's kind of comical was look I would look at it daily. I gaze upon it would find this is just a lot going on here but yeah, there's a good amount of figure it's probably two hundred. ME. So here's a question. You know the Martini I think is GonNa get you drunk as fast as possible. That's my take on. The friendship, Para. Tif is to sort of transition you from work to pleasure at the end of the day. What's the role of the TIKI cocktail? In other words? What is it that it's really really about besides the flavors. First, and foremost fun you know and. Mystery adventure discovery I've had some of the best nights of my life in Tiki bars because the mood is a reverent. I. Just love that that freedom the be freed you get. In a tiki cocktail, a tiki environment. So. What about teachings often have strange interesting containers more much more so than regular cocktails What role does the container plan? All of this it's vital because the fee starts with the is so Tiki takes it mike way over the top like I've seen presentations where you know to try is in vessel is set down in a treasure chest or comes in from barrel. You know comes and coconuts and hollowed out pineapples. You know there's flaming garnishes I once judge the competition. Where the team that from a bar called Paradise Lounge in Bushwick? That is sadly no longer with us. They. Brought it full force. It was a fish tank. With live fish. So the fish were isolated from the cocktail I. There is fishing air which is. Crazy.
