"I think they sort of paying for what wound up happening last year where you wound up going 12 or 5 despite the fact that you wound up having like A380 some odd ERA. He's been a guy that throughout his career as that is ups and downs in terms of the lucky there gets really unlucky when you're getting very, very lucky one year. There are only this year it's been the ladder. He's got a four O 6 fielding independent and any area that is north of 6 he's actually got a career I ain't have strikeouts for 9 innings only been walking about 2.3 guys per 9 90s, but it has been allowing the meatball a little bit when it comes to errands of Ali. He has been touch and go when it's been coming to his performance at Cleveland four 67 omiere, compared to a 7 26 ERA on the road thus far this season. Why it's easy he had a four 82 omie area compared to a three O three on the road so as always been very fascinating to take a look at what that aspect and then you take a look at your watch and he hasn't been pitching terrible recently. Give it up three earned runs or fear in each of his last three starts and he's had quite a few fours along the way this season, but it's never really given up more than four. He's been sort of used the bullpen, use a little bit of a starter and it has actually been a little bit better on the road than at home for somebody you want to hold me or you could be able to a four O 7 iterate on the road. It's on a solid job keeping the ball in the air, giving up 0.8 on runs for an eye on any big thing from lending a little bit of length because he's giving up over four walks per 9 outings. This is a tigers won that they rank in the top 6 in the big leagues in terms of ERA. You've got all sorts of guys that'll be able to come up big for the scene. They do wind up trading away, make a former at the trade deadline, but Jose Sierra no, Willie Peralta, when he's been out there on el de ASUS, Jason foley, Gregory Soto Alex Lang, all I have a three 20 ERA or better, but as we know, but the knee drive daggers right now was alluding them is being able to have anyone put the ball in play at all. It's Harvey bias. He's right now leading the way for the team with 11 homers and we're in the middle of August. He's hitting a two 27 so he's been able to and Eric once your pick it up, but you take a look at things Dez camera and Tucker Barnard, akiel badu, Cody Clements, Cody Carpenter, Jonathan scope, Jaime Kendall wario all inning a two 19 or lore. It's been just dreadful for the scene that sees him for the Cleveland guardians. They do not hit the default at home at all. As a matter of fact, in terms of home runs on a per game basis at home, they're behind the Detroit tigers at this point is they played 51 home games thus far this season and they've got 32 deep balls. That is not necessarily too terrific, but got guys are able to move the line for the same as José Ramírez Steven Kwan, Oscar Gonzalez, Andres demes, Amanda Rosario. Josh naylor, all these guys are in at least a two 70 for their team and it's really been Ramirez who has been the bomb guy 22 home runs 93 RBI, the RBI. They rank at the top 5 of the big leagues in the guardians. They themselves have a very good bullpen of manual class a top three closer right now in the game.
Guardians top Tigers in 10 innings, extend win streak to 5
"The guardians ran their winning streak to 5 games by scratching out a ten fitting run to beat the tigers for three Cleveland wasted a two run lead in the 9th but wanted on a two out RBI single by rookie Oscar Gonzalez The guardians are 92 when extra innings Cleveland starters Zack police sack limited Detroit to one run in four hits while striking out 7 in 6 and the third innings And Yale de Los Santos improved to three and O despite allowing the tying run in the 9th Gregory Soto slipped a two and 7 The outcome gives the AL central leading guardians a game and a half lead over the twins I'm Dave ferry

"And so, I don't know if they don't pull themselves out of that morass, then you wouldn't say, oh, well, the people who failed the first time to make us good again, that's who we want engineering this second rebuild. So maybe it's just like a brief retrenchment. It's like, okay, we'll trade some relievers will trade Gregory Soto you can have him if you want. You know, and it's not like the long-term foundations of the team that they hope that they're building there, but just tough because like Manning has shoulder issues in mice and Turnbull had Tommy John and other guys said other issues and so suddenly it's like, well, who are you actually building around that you can completely count on now? I know like Riley green is up and doing okay. I mean, bright spots, there's some things to be happy about, but it would be a rare rebuild if it was like we were at the precipice of getting good again or so we thought. And now we're just gonna go back to square one, so I don't think it's quite that necessarily and probably if they were gonna trade scuba like they'd have to get something good. And maybe it's just like a miscommunication where it's like a we'll listen to offers on everyone, which probably everyone should say about every team in every player at any time. So maybe it's more that than it is like everyone must go. But that's something to watch. If they were to really be open to doing anyone, then that might change the complexion of the deadline a bit. Right, as opposed to the Marlins who apparently really everyone but sandy is up for grabs. Yeah, and so then you have the Red Sox, right? Who are a 500 team as we speak on Wednesday, so the AL east is still top to bottom 500 or better, but the Red Sox are bottom now. They are trailing the Orioles by half a game. So I think excluding 2020 I saw, this is the first time that a non Orioles team has been in last place in the AL east since 2017 when the Blue Jays were so it's been a while since someone leapfrog the Orioles in a normal season at least and it's just been a steep descent for the Red Sox. It looked like a very likely wild card team and now do not and they had a terrible stretch recently where they just got blown out repeatedly and had like the worst run differential over a three game span in a four games band and maybe a 5 games fan I forget exactly what the stat was, but they were setting the kind of history that you don't want to set and make and so now they find themselves 500 with Chris sale heard again a lot of other players injured they've been very short handed and of course they have some players who are in their walk years or can opt out after this year and so suddenly it's like JD Martinez could he be available for trade and bigger names than that. Your Xander bogarts is right and I think for now at least they're saying that they're not going to trade someone like that but who knows or are they close enough and rich enough that they should just stay in it regardless because it's not like they're completely out of it. I think they have about a one in four chance right now according to the playoff ads a little bit better than that even so maybe if you're the Red Sox, then it's like eh, we owe it to our fans like we already traded away bets and we did that whole thing and now maybe we should just stay in it just to see what happens and hope things break great. But it's been a swift fall from likely contender status. Well, and it's like, look, it's never good to have the run that they've had recently. But what it's punctuated by this side of Jared and Duran and center fields, looking to the heavens of where is the ball and then the ball rolls to the wall and then he does not go after it. Sometimes you're like, well, things are really not going right for this team. Yeah. Yeah. And I don't say that to pick on him because he's been picked on enough, but it was, it was one of the been one of the wildest baseball things I've ever seen. It was, although like Red Sox fans have seen a lot of that lately because I know that was like something like the fourth or 5th ball that was like very catchable that they just didn't see you or did they change. The lights? I know. In some way, are there new bulbs? Yeah, it seems like that, but yeah, I mean, he got piled on because he just sort of stood there after not seeing the ball and I think everyone wanted to see like at least a token effort, right? Like look, there were people backing him up and if he had sprinted after it immediately, he probably wouldn't have been the first to the ball anyway, so maybe it's like I wash once you miss that badly and you're that far away like it doesn't even matter, but I think also when you miss that badly like people appreciate some I wash, you know, they want to see you make a little effort even if it's largely for show. Yeah, I think you got it. It's called eyewash or a reason we find it silly, but sometimes it's an important analgesic. Yeah. You know what I mean? You gotta, I was about to say you gotta give people their cream, but like that has a specific baseball context. They don't mean to. It's like a chemical shower in the lab when you get some substance on you. That is so much like, I was like, it's like an analgesic and you're like, it's like so cool. I guess it's not quite like that because that's not how she actually should get it the chemical shower to get the chemicals off. It's not just for show. But that's the big question now. It's like, oh, are the Red Sox suddenly that are going to trade away pieces rather than add pieces. So again, like that might be a deadline decision, just like based on what they do between now and there's not a lot of time left. Yeah, sometimes it really comes down to what happened in the weekend before. Which is, you know, I think obviously you have to react to baseball as it's played on the field.

"Meg rally of fangraphs and I am joined as always by Ben Lindbergh of the ringer. Ben, how are you? I'm doing 12. How are you? All right. Well, I wanted to start by asking you about two plays where no one was doing all right at all because absolutely everything went wrong. I don't know if this will translate to a podcast because it's not a visual medium. And so we can not convey the complete incompetence on display here. I will include clips of the broadcasts, which will maybe hint at what was happening here, but I think there are two leading contenders for worst defensive play of this season or misplay. And I want to ask you which one you think was worse or I guess better depending on your perspective. Whether we're talking about the quality of the defense or the entertainment value here. So one was a pretty famous viral example here that probably a lot of you listening have seen. This was from April 26th and it was a walk off the twins over the tigers and I don't know, I'll play the clip here, but would you care to describe what happens here? I don't know if we can narrate it and convey what is happening here? Well, I don't know, let's try, shall we try? So this is the bottom of the 9th. This is the bottom of the 9th in a game that Detroit is leading by one run. There are two on and one out. Runners on first and second. And Gregory Soto was pitching to Miguel Sano and Miguel Sano sends the ball out to the warning track, and that is where our trouble begins. Because the ball skips off of the top of Robbie Grossman's glove and so he takes a moment to corral it. The runner advances to third and sort of is held up there because it's like, you know, I get greedy, you know, you have the opportunity to have someone come up with one out in the bases loaded. And then the yaki sex start. Yeah. Because with the bases loaded, the ball gets thrown all the way to the catcher. And then you'd think like, okay, you're the twins. You're in a really good spot. But then for whatever reason, Miguel Sano, I guess maybe thinking that the ball was going to roll all the way to the back stop. I can't quite account for Miguel suno's decision making here. But he starts to advance to second base and Ben, I don't know if you know this, but in the game of baseball, you can only have one runner on a bag at a time. Because otherwise, one of those, one of those cats is out. And so he starts to advance, which inspires the runner on second to try to advance through it. And then you think, okay, well, they're going to get a couple of guys out here as he tries to either retreat to second or doubles up at third base. And then the ball gets thrown rather than getting to third base as it was meant to so that one of the runners there could be tagged out because what they tell you to do if there are two runners on the bag is just a tag both of them over and over and over again until the until the umpire makes a determination of who rightfully occupies the bag and who is out. And they're just like, they tell you to tag out because sometimes both of them will step off the bag and then they'll both be out and then you're having a great time. But that, that didn't happen here instead, the ball sails into left field, a runner comes home to score tying the game and then another runner comes home to score winning the game and then Gregory Santa is just standing there with his hands on his hips like I don't understand how I got here. I made one mistake, but that was not the worst.
Tigers Quiet Reds' Bats, Take Series With 4-1 Win

"Because the Cuba do had some big advance in this game two for three with a walk. He did not drive in. One of the Tigers runs today. But Craig, you really felt like he was just the force in this offense. Well, there's no question he was the difference maker in today's ballgame. He got. He was going up against a very tough picture in Luis Castillo. The adjustment that he was able to make with two strikes and utilize the opposite field was impressive. And they've been able to score from first base on a blue base hit off the bat of Jonathan Scope, electrifying stuff. This young man for me continues to show off all of his skill, and he's been special. Double triggered the three run rally in the sixth and then taking off on an 02 pitch scope with the soft line drive to center. He reads it a little hesitation as he picks up the ball going into second. But instead of sliding into second, a lot of guys might. If they lose the ball, he sees it. He kicks it into another gear. Santiago sees how fast he's going and he was flying between 2nd and 3rd sent him home and the throat was cut off on the infield. They got scope its second, but there was no play at the plate. That's how electrifying that run was and Gregory Soto five final outs to get to save 18th of the year. The strikeouts of Castano's in Vado were impressive to end the eighth. Well, you just feel really good when Gregory Soto's on the bump. You just have a certain kind of convert a different kind of confidence. And today he proved why he was in. He went through the he got he was able to get through the middle of that line up. Flawlessly really good pitches to Castano's slaughtered. That was up, which we haven't seen from him. But that's an adjustment that he made. And then again, just blowing, uh, Joey Votto away there. With the slider whip down in a way, located extremely well. Instead of the game is brought to buy. G FL environmental Order Your Dumpster through G FL if you've been affected by the recent flooding G fl usa dot com Gonna go with 11 5 because that's the Tigers record over their last 16 games on the road, creative and struggling at home. They're three and 10 in their last 13 at home, but after a rough start on the road There was that little blip kind of mid season because they kept going to Minnesota. This This is a team that's played well on the road. I always think that's a good sign when you're trying to turn things around and change the mindset and turned into winning mindset winning on the road. Is a big deal, and the Tigers are 11 and five in the last 16 away from home. Well, you'd like for them to protect their house That would be a commerical park. But given the fact that they have played really good baseball on the road is encouraging them because again, it's very difficult to win on the road, but the tiger seen to excel. In that area. Defensive play the game brought to buy Varsity Lincoln being number one lets us make you number one. Partially Lincoln. Find out why I like the victory. His catch to start the ninth inning first pitch swinging Suarez hit a fly ball to right. Victor disappeared from our view on that right field corner Foul territory gets very small, made a nice running catch for the first out of the ninth innings. Soto needed a quick ninth after 18 pitchers in the eighth. And he got three fly balls to write on six pitches to close this game up Tigers win by the final of 4 to 1 to not go into Pittsburgh after taking the series here in Cincinnati. Stay with us. "Freemen was on the field. Initially and then he ended up going to bat with the base hit actually with the mic on but The one the the last thing. I want to talk about with freddie freeman before we actually get into this game and i stopped talking about just what went on around the game was like he. Aaron judge came up to the plate and aaron judge walks and right before. Aaron judge walks. The five freddie freeman goes. Oh god please. Don't walk him. i don't wanna feel small. i'm six foot five. And and then i'm thinking man. You're six with vibe. Judges only listed at six seven. You're not gonna look that much smaller standing next to aaron judge and then all of the sudden you see aaron judge standing next to freddie freeman. And you're like why. Did freddie freeman looks so small to this man. I don't understand at all it was. It wasn't as bad as jose. Altuve they at aaron judge standing next to each other like by a long shot but it was definitely it was definitely if built like a normal person standing next to somebody that is tall like a normal person standing next to a normal person that happens to be tall. Somebody that's like six two or six three and somebody else. That's like five chen or five nine and like that kind of a thing for for guys like that's that's kind of how it looked. It just looked slightly off. And i was like wow air judged makes doors everybody like i wanna see i wanna see aaron judge and lebron james standing next to each other like i want to see that happen because good lord would it be awesome but so the ninety first all star game featured something never seen before pulled by player doing double duty in a major league baseball. All-star game. Now we do know that it has happened before. He's not the first guy to pitch but he's the first guy to start and hit it. He did this in a really fun way. That the american league was able to pull this off and the fact that they were able to d. h. for They they were able to deviate eight. Shohei ohtani four himself at on the mound and he just through through an inning. He threw a great inning as well. Got a fly out from todd. Tease got a ground out and then and then got the his third out but for the eighth straight midsummer classic in the fifteenth time out of the last eighteen exhibition games. And if you go back a little bit before that it gets even bigger for the american league dominance over the past thirty years or so actually more than thirty years almost or over forty years. Now of the american league dominance in this in this forum the the it was it was a great game absolutely a great game. The american league came out on top though and being behind a scoreless first inning from shohei ohtani home runs from vladimir guerrero. Junior and mike zeno also a key. Defensive play from jared walsh also zuno as well the ale the nl five to two on one of the most perfect night's for baseball in front of almost fifty thousand fans in the mile high city and obviously naturally all eyes were on shohei ohtani out of the gate. Fresh off of his thrilling but a little bit unfulfilling. Turn at the home. Run derby but honestly. I think it's a little bit better that he put was able to put on a show in the first round. But not but don't put on a show an or don't put on enough of a show so where you can't go out or you go out to throw in the first inning and you collapse on the field kind of thing like i'm really glad shohei ohtani did everything but oh my gosh. I feel so bad for that guy. He has to be so tired. Dealing with all of the media dealing with all of the activities and being around all of the new guys as fun as it is it has to just be absolutely exhausting. But he got a couple of groundouts and he did pitch a once you three inning against the top of the order. Which was fernando tatis. Max muncie in nolan air nado it also included the first pitch. He threw which was one hundred. What was one hundred point two miles an hour. So you're not gonna find many d. ages and derby participants. Who can do that. But the shohei ohtani centric lead definitely lead up to this game but the game itself showcased everybody and the toronto the toronto some of marquis simeon and vladimir guerrero junior. Got the american league ahead early. Against the brewers right hander. Corbin burns and semyon came through with an rbi in the second and the twenty two year old guerrero smacked in stood to watch a giant six. Four hundred sixty eight foot solo shot like almost to the concourse in left center in the third and going deep just as his dad did in two thousand and six gray hit the longest all star. Home run since statcast began tracking. It was also the two hundred home run in the long history of this event. Also another thing for that a mate like just massive homerun like just throw another thing in there. It makes him the fourth father son duo to homer in an all star game with the others being the bonds. The griffey's the guerreros now. And actually what's interesting is that the guerreros the griffey's and the bonds are actually the only ones to have ever done it. There isn't a fourth. The i apologize. I miss i miss said that But the yeah so. I joined that home. Run joined that so more blue jays brilliant also arrived win test chess car hernandez led off with turned out to be two fifth inning with a double off of trevor rogers. The marlins rookie in the nfl finally got on the board with jt. Real mutoko homer. In off of tigers gregory soto to be to cut the lead to four one down in the bottom of the fit. The american league did answer right back with raise catchers zuno so solo shot to right center off of t one walker in the fit in six. Excuse me the national league did get another run across the bottom of the sixth. But the biggest threat. To the american league's dominance was extinguished in the eighth with the bases loaded for kris bryant. Who a sharp fly ball to let you old and it was. It was a line drive like an absolute line drive had a ton of topspin and was moving. It was moving toward the foul line so it was moving from it was kind of curving toward the foul line and the angels leftfielder while the i should say the los angeles angels player jared walsh who is usually a first baseman and has played. Some outfield has still never played an inning in left field in his big league career until that inning and snagged it with a great sliding grab to just end any hope at a national league comeback then in the bottom of the ninth all liam hendriks absolutely showed out. He did walk a guy and then on a great not. I wouldn't say great but on a slider that just kept moving away mike. Zuno is a big guy. He was set up in the other batter's box for that slighter and then was stretched full. The extended stretched who trying to grab the ball like to his rights and it hit the backstop and just came right back to zeno is unique and he threw a rocket to second base to gun the runner and then it was a strikeout right after that it was a i. I believe a runner did get a second and then And then a strikeout to end the game but it was a fantastic. It's just a fantastic night to end an incredible weekend that we're gonna be talking about over the rest of this episode. So don't go anywhere we have some homerun derby coverage at first round coverage and then some awesome moments in ulster. Not even moments awesome games in all star history. And i do have to say that this one is probably going to be one of the most remembered in the ninety one that have come before. It's so we will be right back in just a second guys. Thank you.

"This Is there a degree of a more special because you don't know what uniform you're wearing Exports? Not like it doesn't matter. Um it's probably maybe ask you that in 10 years if this is my last stuff, you don't know that right? You don't know. I mean, I could be here for a long time. It's short time. If it's a short time, um, you know, I'm sure I'll look back on this experience. And, yeah, I'm just always so proud to represent the city of Chicago and the Cubs because it's such a great organization and great fan base. And you know, I don't I don't take wearing the pinstripes lately that is Chris Bryant of the Chicago Cubs and Muller Rivera the short time ago. Right now, let's go back to Corey's field, rejoined Marley and Buster only Thanks Deb to Marley Earlier today, we got word that our colleague Tim Kurkjian has been nominated to get the Baseball Writers Award at the Baseball Hall of Fame. I apologize. I was really hoping I could talk to him tonight, and I could ambush him with his whole topic before we get started, But I get to talk to you about him. How cool is this? It's amazing, and not only that it was funny cause when we're talking about it during the meeting, and someone goes, who is going to vote against them. Cartoons like there isn't A writer in baseball alive, who would never support this nomination. It's amazing, but so well deserved a long time coming. What are the odds He's going to cry during his speech? Because that 110% you know what better we know him so well, And that's what makes sense special because that moment is going to be so very, very special to him to be there in front of all his fears and his colleagues and to be able to talk about his family, which is where, where we know he's going to lose it. No question about it. All right. You were down the field. You're talking to a bunch of players. What's everyone excited about for tonight's game? I think number one to see Otani pitch and it was really interesting like they're all like I want to face it, Tony. I want to face Soltani. I talked to No one Arado about it. KB about it. He's like I hope that I get to face them, so it's really interesting how they're looking forward to it. But mostly talking about being on the same team as people that they always play against. So no one's lying was like I'm finally going to get to play with Fernando Tatis Jr and not see him rounding Thursdays. So I thought it was really interesting that they all want to play with each other. So looking forward to facing Otani and playing with each other. It was interesting me today. There's so many questions about whether or not a 20 would be okay. Pitch tonight after looking so gas during the home run Derby. Look part of the reason why Otani so different than anybody else. If he's been able to manage that I didn't think there was any question that he would be okay to be in tonight's game, and a lot of people are saying Maybe it was the best thing that could have happened that he did not move on that we didn't have to see him really, really struggle towards the end, particularly when we saw what the polar bear was doing. I mean, there was no chance right that you don't also is going to lose. So it's good little tiny was out early would have heard a lot, but Otani Doesn't even take BP mustard. We know this. This man knows his body. He's going to be absolutely fine. He is a thin, um, for a reason. So in new conversations with players tell me someone who you get. The sense was really excited to be in tonight's game. Abdullah's Garcia. It's really It's been the most exciting. I asked him and I said, Are you enjoying the moment him and Gregory Soto, and it comes from those teams Buster? Arrangers the Tigers who did not expect to be here. Those kids are happiest here. They're almost like I feel so undeserving because I'm here with all these big names. What are some other reactions You've heard from players before Today's game about this whole event that we've seen here last two days. A lot of them are disappointed that some of them chose not to come. And they're like this is such a special moment. You can never take this for granted. No matter how no matter how many times you've come right, like anyone you know was like I want to make sure that everyone knows that I'm dealing with some family stuff that it isn't about me being nominated 10 10 11. Times an all star, So I think that was very, very important. And they're like this is such a precious time. Why wouldn't you be here? Marley? I totally agree with you. It's been surprising to me to hear the frustration in some cases, the anger that players turned down the opportunity. Come here. Thanks for doing this. Get back to you. All right, guys. Thank you very much. Buster Olney, Marlon Rivera. That will do it for us on baseball.

Like they're all like I want to face Soltani. I want to face Soltani. I talked to Nolan Alvarado about it. KB about it. He's like I hope that I That I get to face them. So it's really interesting how they're looking forward to it, but mostly talking about being on the same team as people that they always play against. So Nolan's line was like I'm finally going to get to play with Fernando Tatis Jr and not see him rounding third base. So I thought that was really interesting that they all want to play with each other. So looking forward to facing Otani and playing with each other. It was interesting to me today. There are so many questions about whether or not Otani would be okay to pitch tonight. After looking so gas during the home run Derby look part of the reason why Otani so different than anybody else is. He's been able to manage that. I didn't think there was any question that he would be okay to be in tonight's game, and a lot of people are saying Maybe it was the best thing that could have happened that he did not move on that We didn't have to see him really, really struggle towards the end, particularly when we saw what the polar bear was doing. I mean, there was no chance, right? Peter also was going to lose. So it was good that Otani was out early. It's one of heard a lot, but Otani doesn't even take BP mustard. We know this. This man knows his body. He's going to be absolutely fine. He is a fine, um for a reason. So in your conversations with players tell me someone who you get. The sense was really excited to be in tonight's game at Dulles Garcia. It's really It's been the most exciting. I asked him when I said, Are you enjoying the moment? Him and Gregory Soto? And it comes from those teams Buster, the Rangers? The Tigers, who did not expect to be here? Those kids are happiest to be here. They're almost like I feel so undeserving. Because I'm here with all these big names. What are some other reactions You've heard from players before Today's game about this whole event that we've seen here last two days. A lot of them are disappointed that some of them chose not to come. And they're like this is such a special moment. You can never take this for granted. No, many have no matter how many times you've come right. Like Eddie Molina was like I want to make sure that everyone knows that I'm dealing with some family stuff that it isn't about me being nominated News 10 10 11 times as an All star I think that was very, very important. And they're like this is such a precious time. Why wouldn't you be here? Marley? I totally agree with you. It's been surprising to me to hear the frustration in some cases, the anger that players turn down the opportunity to come here. Thanks for doing this kept back to you guys. Thank you very much. Buster Olney, Marlon Rivera. That'll do it. Frost on baseball tonight. Up. Next we send you two cores Field for the 91st Midsummer Classic. This is the All Star game on ESPN. "Zunino in Catching you have boba shed at shortstop as well you have matt olsen for oakland you have jose ramirez for cleveland jared walsh for the angels at base and then you have joey gallo all these garcia cedric mullins. Jd martinez and nelson cruz to round out the rest of the lineup. You only have three outfielders though on the reserves you have joey gallo all each garcia and cedric mullins. And then you have two extra gauges in jd martinez and nelson cruz. The starting pitchers for the american league team. You have shane bieber who is out due to injury or he is opting out his replacement. Is chris beset from oakland. And then you have garrett cole as well nathan evolve the kyle gibson. Ucla kukuchi. You also have Lance lynn and carlos rundown to round out. You're starting pitchers then in your relievers. You have mad. Barnes for boston raleigh's chapman for new york liam hendriks for the white sox ryan presley for houston. He is actually opting out. And then gregory soto from detroit so those are some very very interesting at teams that just to say the least. This is a You have five year. Five brewers now and five padres on the on the The all star teams and ironically one of the all stars that you don't have on the on the team is It's it's probably the best overall player on your team when christian yelich. You have corbin burns and josh josh. Hater and omar navarro navarro's who are the who are pitchers. And then you also have free. Peralta and brandon would actually a i think every one of the The the players that the brewers have our pitchers which is actually really really impressive for the padres. You obviously have jake cronin worth you had. Hugh darvish manny machado. Who was added later mark melanchon. Who's league leader in saves fernando. Totti's junior he's a beast a shortstop i mean in the astros. They're all skipping it. So who cares four. All stars is actually houston's lowest total in all sorts since twenty sixteen and But they're still tied for third among all wins this year. Like with their clubs. They're doing a pretty good job actually in terms of in terms of all that but so i. I'm looking at these i. I'm looking at these. These these teams right here. And i'm trying to really figure out what one thing. The american league does that is for sure better. That is for sure better than the national league. And i don't really have a huge I i don't have a huge Huge amount of faith in in some of these guys for the For for the american league. I think the american league roster is kind of lacking and because of that i think i am going to end up choosing the i'm definitely ending up choosing the national league. I think the national league is going to win by a. I'm calling it. I think shohei otani is is going to do good. I think it's going to be a close game. But i think the nationally is going to win for sheer by a score of four to three. I think shohei otani is going to go over in the All-star game. But i think he's going to pitch very very well I i think that. I think that the the biggest reason. I think that the nationally is going to win is because of their pitching staff like. Trevor rogers is in my opinion. The least it. I think he's probably the least experienced guy. And then you look at their relievers. They have the best relievers in all of baseball. Like or like the they have the best relievers in the sport at in terms of like saves and things like that so. I don't think that those guys are going to be really giving up many opportunities. I also think that the other guys are going to be really good. I think that the american league's ticket to success is probably against Trevor rogers trevor. Rogers is he. He was a rookie last year. Actually in the seven games that he pitched in last year so i don't know if he's still considered a rookie he may be. He may not be but This year he's actually doing really really well even still he has a two thirty one. Era so like he's still really is still really good at at throwing the baseball. He's an all star. So i really have no idea what's going to happen. My final prediction is the national league. Wins this one by score of four to three And shohei ohtani ios over however many at bats he gets so thank you guys so much for listening you you can follow us at. Gnc underscore baseball on twitter. You can follow me on twitter through that. I'm usually either re tweeting my own things or stuff like that Or or liking. Maya my own tweets or from like i. If there's if there's a tweet that has like one like on it. It's like probably my like or something of that nature but figgy guys so much for listening. I hope everybody has is having an amazing all-star weekend and they have a great rest of your day..

"Maybe two weeks ago or so. I think it was the weekend of father's day. That sounds right. Yeah so. That's when i started to get on the bassett to denver train anyways lance lynn. Starting nine alum is an all star. And so is carlos. Rodin is is rotation mate and all star matt barnes first time all mattie backpacks. Congratulations former yukon. This guy red sox closer nineteen saves this year doing outstanding work for the first place best team in the american league boston. Red sox aroldis chapman statistically the worst reliever in in baseball major league baseball since june. Six the worst reliever in baseball by every sort of metric you could possibly use. He's an all star you know. Who isn't chris bassett. you know. Who else is sean mnaya. Three point one three. Era corrobos ninety seven and two thirds innings. Right three point two v. yeah. I mean he. He's pitched into the numbers. Nine point court case for nine. Only two point three walks per nine. That's better than it's better than another guy that we've talked about in this race. That's also a better than coach. And i hate to. I hate to fire this arrow. But chris bassett sean. Mnaya should both be getting love before my man empty peeps. Yeah well. I mean just backs. Those are just facts. Yeah well why. Why green and gold got some love here because liam hendriks is going to denver. Dick having a great fucking year on fucking necessary. Yeah coming out of the bullpen. Throwing smoke saving games. Think about the as technically should have one two three four five all-stars yeah could have five all stars good one. We have one one out of here. Oh it's all right. it's not no. It's not a right little bitch when it's all said and done i think i think bassett makes it. Yeah i think basketball so make whether or not whether or not he pitches showman makes a i think minutiae is going to get the love. That's okay whatever. What's not okay. I don't want to be on the record as saying he's not okay. It's not okay. It's not okay i've had a. I've had a front row seat. Jeered for their entire run this season and i wish i had a front row seat for their all star bid. We're going to have a seat. Though for metals potential homerun derby participation. Who knows that'd be cool. Three spots available for the for the homerun derby. I believe and you would. Not you would not be disappointed with the metals derby xiao especially especially in denver. Oh brian presley gregory soto round out the relievers. The american league Buster posey starting for the national league. All star on the plate. Freddy freeman Great guy mvp last year. Good really good player. Really good player does not deserve to be the first base. All-star sorry braves fans out. Have max muncie there Adam frazier dallas.

"Taken his production to another level this year. Nineteen home runs forty eight. Rbi's entering the weekend so it will certainly be fascinating to see the reds sin if they can continue to perform at that level winkler and castellanos through the rest of the year and then the designated hitter in the american league shohei ohtani his first all star game start of course otani. He's been the headline. He's your leader in the mvp. I mean man. This guy is just smoke in the baseball offensively. He's on pace for sixty home runs this year. Which is just absolutely electric so certainly well deserved for him to be the starter there in the american league but now we found out their reserves in the pitching staffs across both leagues here on sunday night and starting pitching. You have shane bieber who is currently on the injured list. We'll wait and see if he'll be available due to injury for the game if not he will certainly be replaced in that rotation but he will be joined by garrett cole who will be making. I believe the start for the american league. Been very good this year. Of course we've talked a lot about his. Spin rates inconsistencies. What's going on there but Garrett cole and all star so living up to that contract in new york nathan ugalde for boston. He's been very good for the red sox. He is certainly upped. His game filling in for the injured chris sale at the top of that rotation and excellent to see him in back in the all star. Game kyle gibson avenue himself a career year a two point zero zero. Era leads the american league. And gimme down there in texas. He's going to be very sought after when it comes to the trade deadline as a potential piece to be added for contending teams. You have you see kika chewy for seattle. I'm sure i butchered that name. Honestly don't know a ton about this guy but he's been excellent for the mariners at the top of their rotation and then to white sox round out the starting pitchers lance lynn. He's been excellent for the white sox being added from down there in texas. He's electric to watch if you watch his highlights man not safe for work. So don't let your kids watch him coming off the mound but he is a ton of fun to watch pitching with emotion and then carlos road dawn. Of course rodion is thrown a no hitter this year as well so he is certainly deserving and has been electric from the left. Side there for the white sox. The relief pitchers matt barnes out of boston. The closer for the red sox who's been very good is at the top of the list as well as aroldis chapman for the yankees. You'll see quite a few closers on this list. Quite a few guys who have been dominating. So far this year you got barnes chapman. Liam hendriks of the white sox. He's been a fantastic addition for them. Been very good. You have ryan presley making his second all star game appearance for houston. He's been excellent for one of the best teams in the american league. Era of one five and three of the runs allowed came on a three run. Bomb to tat. Tease junior so outside of that. He's been absolutely shut down for the astros. And then the last relief. Pitcher gregory soto for the detroit tagger says the tigers get their their one guy representing them in the form of gregory soda their reserves on the american league side of things mike zeno from tampa bay. Jose altuve eight bogus shit. Carlos correa matt olsen jose ramirez. In jared walsh the guy who basically forced our pools outta town will be making his first all star appearance backup designated hitters jd martinez in nelson cruz. Obviously those guys are very good header so certainly deserving and then the reserve outfielders of michael. Brantley joey gallo. And all star for texas dollars garcia who's been arguably their best header makes the all star game for the first time and then cedric molins very deserving for the orioles not voted a starter when he maybe should have been but he makes it as a reserve outfielder for the american league in the national league. We have the reserve infield of jt. Rio mutoko so the philadelphia phillies get represented by jt. Real mutoko ozzy albee's down out of atlanta. You have kris bryant from the cubs brandon crawford. Jake cronin worth eduardo escobar. Who is very sought after right now and we'll get into that and segment number. Three max muncie and trae. Turner round out the reserve infield for the reserve outfield in the national league. Mookie betts brian reynolds of the pittsburgh pirates. Kyle schwarzer who just went down with an injury which we'll talk about coming up and segment number three one. Soto makes his all star game. Debut and chris taylor of the dodgers so a lot of guys seven fantastic years getting recognized for starting pitching in the national league. You have corbin burns of milwaukee. Of course he's been electric yu darvish from san diego the big edition for the padres makes the all star squad. Jacob degrom of course the best pitcher on the planet kevin guzman germain marquees out of colorado. Trevor rogers. The lefty there for miami gets the nod. And then zack wheeler from the phillies. Who's been very good. Seven more shutout innings against the padres. Nice disease zack. Wheeler get recognized for his success. And then brandon would drif of milwaukee so to milwaukee starters making the starting pitching for the all star game. And then the relief guys for the national league. Josh hader from milwaukee craig kimbrel for the cubs markman lanson out of san diego and alex radius from saint louis. So once again quite a few closers being recognized there on the national league side of things. So who do. I think as the better squad You gotta give the edge to the american league. We'll get into some predictions here coming up on some future segments or future episodes before the all star game takes place but the american league which usually wins out in the all star game. I think once again on paper certainly has the advantage but to round out segment number. Two here of the gmc baseball podcast. Of course we have to talk about a sensitive situation as you guys are probably aware by now out there trevor. Bauer starting pitcher raining. Nl cy young winner of the national league is currently suspended for major league. Baseball major league baseball place. Trevor bauer on the seven day administrative leave on friday following allegations of sexual assault..

"My entire fourth of July. No beach. Not much main thing other than watching sports. And you know, this is my time shift 6 to 10 Eastern 3 to 7 to the West Coast guys and gals, Um, for Sunday's And as an upside and a downside to it. I'm not even talking about Nepal because in the fall it's the same shift, but it's certainly a different production. NFL is inaction. Our buddy Richard Ackerman, is Mr High on football, So he's here from noon on and I come in and give me a helping hand during his last couple hours is eight hours. You know, between the noon noon and eight and then I do a couple hours on the back end. So that's a different animal altogether. But when the NFL is not an action yours truly is at this time. 6 to 10 Eastern, and one thing that has continued to happen, and I just tell you guys, what kind of year it's been Uh, if they're playing East Coast golf, which they are today at the Rocket Mortgage open up in Detroit. The tournament almost always ends either in the last 15 minutes prior to my show, or just after my show has started. And damn, if that's not the case again, we've got a three way tie. We just had this a couple of weeks or where they had sudden death and they played eight sudden death holes before they decided the winner. I don't know if they'll decided any quicker this week, but sure enough a couple of pars on the final hole. The two leaders had a chance to win with birdies on the final hole. The final two pairing of Neiman and Merit and both parred the last hole. Both had very difficult birdie shot to neither one of them made it and they bought that happened parts Cam Davis said, birdied the 18th to get from a stroke back into a tie. Three tied at minus 18 Neiman Merit and David 30 ng off on their first playoff, Paul. So you know I'm a golf guy, and I like watching this stuff, but now I got a half. Watch it because I kind of got something else I gotta do grossest show for you guys. You're on CBS Sports radio, but I'll keep half an eye on it. If you are intrigued by the outcome of this one, Um we are chock full of things to talk about. I was going to start with the NBA, which we'll probably talk about more than anything else. Over the course of the next several hours. Yes, I watched the Nathan's hot dog eating contest earlier today. All right, I'm a glutton for punishment, Joy catch that. For the Hall of Fame. But this just came down in the last half hour. The golf is still ongoing, but Major League Baseball officially announced the rest of it's all starts, you know, won the all star starting spots. They announced that previously but the rest of the all stars Um, let me see how I can do this and not over. Do it for you. Um, you know, they know tiny is the starting d. H. For the American League, right? The American League Pictures. Include Jane Bieber, who will not pitch because he is injured, but he rightfully got named an All Star Garrett, call Nathan a volley, dammit! That takes me off. You know why? I had my fantasy baseball draft before the season started, and we're in Hughton, the 30th round. We are. We protect 17 players. Then we draft 13 more, and it was the last round of the 30 Man roster. And I had a choice between two pictures. There were two pictures there that I liked, and it's going to take either one or the other. I was going to take either a baldy or it's going to take Carlos Martinez, a big cardinals. I took college, Martinez of the Tigers and native all He made the All Star game. Okay. Kyle Gibson, who may very well be the starter from the Rangers, Undefeated six and o sub three are a rightfully makes a team. Coochie of the Mariners. Lance Lynn of the White Sox and Carlos wrote Rodan who If Gibson doesn't start, it'll probably be wrote down. I guess they could give it to call call did not pitch exceptionally well for the Yankees today. Big game Subway series got hit around a little bit by the Mets. He didn't lose it or all this burning down the house. Chapman did. But one of those three guys are going to be the starter for me. I would name Kyle Gibson relievers Matt Barnes in Boston. He is on my fantasy team. I did draft him. I'm quite proud of that one I could add in another bread, sock picture. I should have had Barnes and wildly, uh, cabin maybe all stars only I'll give you some numbers on Chapman. Oh my God. Is he gone bad in the last month? Liam Hendriks and White Sox Ryan Pressly of the Astros and Gregory Soto from the Tigers. Could that be the only tiger? All right, Let's look at the reserves. Infielders include Mike Zunino, your backup catcher, Jose Altuve. A barbershop yet Carlos Correa. Maybe all says good for him. Uh, there was a boy in line guy. Matt Olsen, definitely Jose Ramirez deserves and Jared Walsh youngster for the Angels, making it as a backup. First basement has earned that that right. They've got to back up DHS, JD Martinez and Carl Nelson Cruz. Good for both of those guys and four reserve outfielder Michael Brantley, Joey Gallo. Dollars. Garcia and Cedric Mullins, all those guys gala wasn't high in the voting, but he's come on very hot here in the last week or so. So I like the American League Reserve outfielders. Alright, Um, National League. Reserve infielders Attach your J T Realmuto makes it from the Phillies. Ozzie Albies, Chris Brian Brandon. Corporate absolutely deserves to be on the all stars. Jake Rohn work the Padres. Eduardo Escobar might be traded over the All Star break, but he's going to the All Star Game as an Arizona Diamondback. My guess would be the only Arizona Diamondback. Maximums. He could one the first base vote Freddie Freeman dead months He makes the all stars as he should. And trade Turner, which means Justin Turner didn't make it. There was an argument to be made that Justin Turner should be the starting their basement instead of Nolan Arenado. Wow, there, there's a guy that will be talked about who.

He against lefty 11 time. Many times we see the top of the 10th inning with a zero After the top of the 10th. Pitch in the dirt. What a block by Jake Rogers on a hard slide of the bounced in front of home plate. Well, that's anticipation. Great footwork. That definitely saved her run. That was it for the combo meals for the weekend. And we'll do them again on thursday show and now move on to tristan singing about the closers. The carousel do do do. It's the closer carousel look. Sims is a closer now. how about that. It took like ten weeks or nine weeks and then all of a sudden david bell saying okay. You disclose everything out. And there and more importantly they're winning games by not six runs so which was a cincinnati staple when they were winning. There's not even five hundred team. I think but now they're not one under so i ask you like lucas sims. Looks like twenty five. save guy now. So do you like him. Or do you think they'll go back to antone or amir garrett the home run or somebody else like could you make the case for lucas over in kennedy right now because kennedy could get traded in a month. Yes absolutely i think is definitely a kennedy at this point. I love a promise. He's going to close if if he got that. He's a top ten closer in fantasy top. Ten closer to say that absolutely so over over brad. Hand over over kenley jansen. No res l. glazes no ryan presley. no all right. We're we're running out of time. Now barnes learns. I would put them over matt. Barnes if i put over matt barnes. I would absolutely put him ahead of today as we sit here. You're putting lucas with at bornes. I it with the promise that you're not going to get. I know what. I'm not going to rank them ahead of matt barnes because matt barnes is the closer and that's a very important distinction between these two but i think that the reason sims i'm all in today is that there is the opportunity for him to be that. The skills are great by the way. I got to point out near ninety. Six mph average fastball velocity. Since he's taken over the spot in the six scoreless appearances as long as luca sims can not walk people. He should should be okay. It was yesterday either. So we'll say oh they're not always alex res- as walk literally walked someone in his last seven outings. I mean he has almost a walk per inning and his a walk in every inning. It's it's hard to trust and then winker when five hundred feet but that's not been raised as problem. Are you or are you more worried about race. Walking people arrest getting hurt. I am more worried about race getting hurt and it's actually by a pretty noticeable. How about you. i'm curious. There is by noticeable margin for me. I'm injured i. I'm more worried i. I don't want to assume that he can't stay healthy. I hate doing that. I mean i think with modesty in buxton you can assume it okay. But and strasbourg now but like. I don't want to assume that with him like he's so young in a different role he couldn't handle starting. What if he can handle relieving. That's that's why i'm going to say no. The walks concern me more. Because but then again he could walk everybody. Install keep the job. There's no jordan hicks who goes lurks but I i i the the thing is. It's not the injured list that worries me as much as the prospect of it caused by the increase in workload. This is a weird year. We don't know what's going to happen to the pitchers who aren't used to working at the volume that they are and he is tracking for a league leading caliber relief volume. That's what worries me. Paul for i finally saved the game. Yeah love him. Don't you know. But i do think he's a lot better than caesar is. I mean come on. We knew the first week of the season was gonna lose the closer role because he he throws five miles per hour. You can't get away with that right now. I think wholesome might get some saves. And i don't know what happened. Ten scott hunter harvey's finally active. So there's a lot of mess there. But i don't know of any oriole gets fifteen saves i don't either. I don't know that the i don't even know the fantasy relevant but it's fry has pitched. Well we should. I would rather roster paul fry than anybody in arizona's bullpen. Right now. anybody in detroit's former went on the injured list. I don't gregory soto Any other teams were ignoring any other changes over the weekend. That were interesting to you. Hector nerissa had a baby or his wife did so. That's fun but philadelphia. He's clearly their or other. They went to Connor brogdon jose. Alvarado was a walk machine he. He's the lefty version of alex race. I don't know if you'll stay healthy or a fill a void walking people. There's a wild pitch here and there. He's you know he's a walker. It's what you get. Yeah rumors kendall grave going on a rehab assignment from code. Which i've never heard of you. So he but he has been out too long. He needs to rev up throwing but montero league. But i don't want to your data board tuning save at cores that that. That's gotta be rare. I would think a two inning save it cores. Probably is yeah. You're much see if spend one. I was just trying to find which closer at the most walks at the thirty save seasons i can see if i can find cores. Each the neck is look. It's hard it's hard to issue that many walks and get away with now. Sometimes it happens. I don't know what i said. You know what i do. I'm not of course but you. We're on baseball. Reference all the time. And you know how all the little pictures on the front and i just like gloss over it with my mouse. That guy got it right. But nell knocker i did you know i guess this guy pete. Vukovich showed up on the screen. I'm like that guy. Never should have won a cy young award and i know i'm not for what he did on the field but for being major league it was the first baseman for the yankees. When this guy sneezes he looks like a party favor he sure does and he throws his throws out his kids in a father son tournament and now the closer. That's the clothes. Oh that's that's a turkey or whatever now do the do but beaver want one hundred and two hitters. In his season he had a one point five. Oh whip anyone. The cy young over jim palmer dave's so many more guys were deserving. Yeah i mean come on. Who was voting for this over mitch. Because he had eighteen wins and no one else did wanna young award and forever. He will be called cy young award winner and i hope he's a really nice guy. I don't want to anger him but the point is walk scale. You don't know what my point was. I'm gonna get back on track ear schedule sometimes. You're not going to give me the guy since the only guy since one thousand nine hundred sixty walks and thirty saves in a season. You should know it. Mitch williams match raw when you say you should know gives it away..
