"Gregory Rousseau, kind of grow from the start of the year where he was just a young rookie to now. He's already a defensive playmaker. 5 games in, you're like, oh my gosh, Gregory Rousseau is making play after play and really impressive to watch. And again, I just want to give a shout out to the strategy and the defense of line for buffalo. Also, we have receiver, I want to talk about a manual Sanders who came over from New Orleans last year. Or I guess he was in New Orleans last year. He came over to buffalo in the off season. And last year, he was not a big playmaker, playing with Drew Brees in the saints. And I thought maybe a manual Sanders would be might be washed up, watching it on the place is not doing very much. And I'm realizing a lot of why I was not that impressed with manual Sanders last year, simply because he was playing with an aging Drew Brees. And this year in Buffalo, playing with Josh Allen, oh my gosh, a manual Sanders. He's being elevated. He looks fantastic. He's already got four touchdowns in 5 games. And then Josh Allen, oh, man, against buffalo, Josh Allen was the better quarterback on Sunday Night. I did not expect to say that, hey, Josh Allen already is playing better at times than Patrick Mahomes, but he is. He can run, he can throw. Get a long touch on pass to a manual Sanders. And after 5 games, I've learned that the two best teams in the AFC are the Chargers and the bills. And then right behind him, you got Cleveland and Baltimore competing. And I just am so excited for the way the AFC is going to play out. We're going to get an amazing AFC championship game, no matter how things work out, and it's going to be just outstanding. But Josh Allen, I did not expect him to play way better than Patrick Mahomes on Sunday Night. He did. They won 38 to.

"Waiting for our first call the season ready to take your phone calls on the matchup on what you like about this matchup or what? You don't Bills and Steelers Here is Pittsburgh gets T J Watt under contract contract for him well deserved. Rated one of the top 10 players in the NFL by is very good along with Josh Allen. He's one of two defensive players to make the top 10. It was Aaron Donald And T. J. Watt Josh Allen, his first year as a top 10 player, according to the NFL top 100 Stefon Diggs was number 11, by the way, um so Bills Steelers. We talked a little bit about the Steelers offense in the first segment and the Bills offense and now maybe shift gears to the defenses of these two teams and what to look for. Um, The Steelers have a very good defensive line and have for a couple of years mentioned what Melvin Ingram as well for the bill's name. It's probably the number one thing that is Let's see how good it can be like an X factor for this team. If we if we see the same offense we saw last year than we turn to the defense and say, Can they be better? Lightly? Just slightly? And and what does that mean for this team, and I think that comes down to the defensive line. Your secondary It's been the same secondary since Sean McDermott showed up a white, two safeties and another guy and right, whoever that is, whatever that might be your linebackers, you know. Tremaine Edmunds, Matt Milano. People feel good about those two. We could talk a little more about about Tremaine. But the defensive line the assets they have sunk into that spot. Russo bookie Basham, They get added into a group that includes finesse a second round pick from last year at Oliver. First overall, our first round pick 7th 9th overall. Sorry. No star. That could be big right Star was supposed to be another addition this year. He's out today, so let's start tough. Let's start Big picture defensive line. How do you think it looks overall? I think the advantage of being fresh In the fourth quarter. Every single week is going to be an advantage for this bills defensive line their rotations watching the type of pass rush combinations, they're going to be able to roll out. Um, these are exciting things for me to watch. I'm listen. Uh, I think we can all agree. We're probably all in the same place here. I I am excited about Gregory Rousseau. I think This the excitement that fans feel and share about Russo. I think is echoed in this coaching staff. I think the way they used him in the preseason. Is a little bit of like a sneak peek and how they feel that that what they've seen from him in the pre season and during training camp. You don't play a guy you know to 20 snaps in the preseason. Who's a rookie? Unless you're like this guy is one of our best players in defense. Um, if you told me right now, Gregory, so ends this season with double digit sacks. 10 10.5 11. I think I'd buy into that. I think I think I'd take the over at like 9 10 sacks. I think he can be that disruptive, but The defensive line is a whole does feel a little predicated in terms of people's Belief in their ability to stop the run. And what we could probably get into whether or not stopping around actually matters at some point in the show or some point this season because teams are going to run against the bills because they can because the bills want them to run against them. Can we? Can we say that right? Like if you're Sean McDermott, Leslie Frazier. Every single time. Herbert. Uh, name some good F C court named some great quarterbacks whenever you're playing Patrick Mahomes, Ryan Tannehill. Maybe not. In that case, their country is really hard to stop. But I would think that every time these elite quarterbacks turn around and hand the ball off. Sean McDermott and Leslie Frazier. Like Exactly. Yeah, let's get to let's get down into the in the goal into the red zone. Let's tighten up. Let's hold teams to three points. We like our odds if we can do that with our scoring offense, So I think that the bend but don't break things. We've said a lot. Like maybe at nauseum. It's like maybe one of the worst football ISMs out there is bend. But don't break defense is, I think the bills really that that's her strategy, both from a defensive line linebacker. Corner safety. I'm uh, I think if you're if you're Leslie Frazier in your Sean McDermott every time an elite quarterback turns around two hands the ball off you are. They're doing exactly what you want them to do. Well, let me ask you about you mentioned Russo and go back to Rousseau and there. The you get the sense that Russo has come in and look so good for the bill so far. That there's almost this feeling of I mean, we knew he was good. Yeah, Yeah, yeah, we He's really good. Right right away. He's he looks ready right now. And, you know bills, fans got a chance to see that with some Solid reps in the preseason, The Detroit sack, Um against the the Bears. He was. He was reading a full game where it means something and where you're scheming him in spots to put him in. Opposition to have success and you really didn't get to see him with Jerry Hughes on the other end, Like like the Jerry Hughes, not like, Hey, it's training camp. It's preseason. He's a veteran. He's got a little tweaking The calf were really easing him in here. No. Now he's full bore, and now you're going to have an opportunity to see on third down. You know, Russo and Hughes on one end. You've got Mario Addison at the three technique and Calvert the one have at it, boys. You've got to really athletic, fast pass rush heavy unit out there. The other guy that I continue to think we're grossly under talking about is a J. F. Vanessa. I'm excited to watch up in ECE play. He's not going to have the same volume of stats are snaps that we see pews that we see Russo. But maybe do we agree he might be the third. Guy off that bench like he might be the first pass rusher in the game when Reus or he was earning well, last year, it was, you know, Trent Murphy and he's an active all the time and the bills just Really gotten. It was almost like corner, too was talked about a lot, But yet defensive end to was, I think probably should have had more attention. Um, I guess if you're going further down the depth chart past cherry hues With regard to this this pass rush. Russo, one of the things about him. He got a lot of his sex in college when he was inside, and that was kind of a little bit of a knock like, Well, he does really well inside. I'm not. You know, we don't know how he'll do around the edge. The reality is sometimes You hear that as a knock and I think, Well, yeah. Can I just scheme it on the inside? I got it Sounds like it sounds like I could just do. That Sounds like a you problem, right? I'll just get him and maybe scheme him on the inside in certain scenarios seen that yet either, And I think probably for a reason..

"Thursday and sunday night. Football games download and follow on apple podcasts. Spotify stitcher and wherever else. Podcasts found all right. Let's do our news and notes about saquon barkley unlikely to have a full workload in week one facing the very talented front seven of the denver broncos I mentioned this. I think on the livestream last night but if you are trying to learn about matchups for this week maybe you guys have some resources that you wanna share as well but sharp football analytics ranks position groups so they rank front sevens. They ranked secondaries. And if you're like Well does this guy have a good matchup this week. You don't necessarily want to look at fantasy points allowed from the previous season. But i've just found that to be a useful tool so just going through kind of some of my research for week. One just wanted one position group that you were surprised by their ranking. Well the only problem. I have with the front seven was it seemed a little pass rush. Heavy and not necessarily against the run is not rated very high. No not really. They like something The ravens were the number one secondary. Who was the number two. I think the bills were rated as having the second best secondary interesting and they were that high yet. Do you know where the bills were rated their front seven. Actually think i have the list up right now. Yes i do. Bills were seventeenth in their front seven. I wa. This was done on august ninth. Some things have changed. There've been some injuries but You know look if if gregory gregory rousseau and boogie basham or good going to change things quite a bit. They were rounds. One two picks for the bills So they were seventeenth in their front seven the top five front seven or the bucks the steelers the niners the football team and the rams but good good read their from sharp football analytic a sharp sharp football analysis sharp football analysis. "Be in pole position to come out of the. Nfc too so okay. So that's your nfc pick. I understand it that make sense the afc though who your favorites there so many boring and give a really similar answer. Which is the other team in the super bowl. Kansas city they have more questions on their roster than tampa bay completely remade their offensive line which was problem arguably why they lost the super bowl some of the injuries there but they're actually holds on this team unlike tampa bay the assumption and i think this is a safe one is that patrick. Mahomes is the ultimate eraser. He covers up all problems even though he do it when he was playing buying a much turns thousand circle. Hold on meena really. There is no one who can unseat the chiefs in the afc. That's what you're leaving me with as our football expert. I know you're my picks to make the super bowl the teams who were in the super bowl last year. Really helpful yeah. I'm really high on the bills. The team that almost super bowl because they look stacked and while josh allen has played a ton in the preseason like the bucks really much brought everyone back including notably offense coordinator. Brian cabell who i thought was going to get a head. Coaching job and josh allen in his limited snaps appears to be picking up right. Where you left off throwing missiles protection out this on the other side of the football about the bills pass rush. They drafted two players. Gregory rousseau in boogie basham to try to help jerry hughes upfront and russo in particular along with aj vanessa. Who's a player. They already had on their team. Look like they're going to really help them. Get to the quarterback. So i am very optimistic about this bills team so as i officially look forward to you being triumphantly thrown through a table at a tailgate as you are hailed as the buffalo bills new queen. You mentioned the bills. Which means i have to ask you about. Covert and another bill. Bill ballot check the. Nfl tries to make sense of all of that. It is our favorite time of year as we're back traveling. The road of college football and goodyear knows the passion and the excitement. It takes to drive forward whether your team is home or away. The games traditions are still the same. Through every first down touchdown or fourth quarter comeback by moving. Anything is possible years here to drive forward on the road. That moves us all goodyear more driven so i was pretty fascinated by the dynamic that i saw unfold in two places last week. In jacksonville we had urban meyer in a press conference confessing and i use that verb strategically here because it did feel like a confession that he should not have necessarily given in public that part of the reason he'd cut some of his own players to get down to the fifty three man roster was because they were unvaccinated can't give specifics to share with us. Whether a vaccinated versus unvaccinated player had an impact on a roster decision. It's everyone was considered That was part of the Production what's his. Let's start talking about this and then also vaccinate or not Can i say that that was a decision maker was certainly inconsideration. Meanwhile in new england bill bell checkout asked if his release of cam newton which we had talked about before was due to the fact that he had not been vaccinated and he. Very firmly responded. No well the cam was that he what didn't get sick but he was still affected by it. So that didn't play a role in your decision. No we have other players on the team who are unvaccinated. As i would say probably does every other team in the league now multiple unvaccinated players have been signed by the legal ready for breaking mass guidelines and places like buffalo but with the delta variant. Still very much a thing. A thing that is spreading. The nfl has said yeah. They're interested in a vaccine mandate for players. But of course if we need to approve that so given all of that what do you make of how. The league has approached kovic and vaccination so far this season. Well first of all it's a mandate without kalyan ready like it's very obvious that you don't have to be vaccinated to play in the nfl this year. But it's going to be very difficult if you're not. We are hearing we people in around the nfl that coaches gm's whatever care about availability and your ability is very obviously affected by whether or not you've gotten the shot in fact if you test positive and you're unvaccinated you're out for ten days at least whereas if you're vaccinated you can get you player. Weber can get back in the span of twenty. Four hours was a couple of negative tests so as a coach. You can imagine that it matters a great deal. You're not allowed to say so. Which is what urban meyer did. Yeah the idea that there are these incentives that make it so clear that you should get this thing in order to play football and yet some people are not. I mean if you're the nfl pa. Do you handle this in a different way here. Are you just caught. In between a responsibility to represent everybody in your constituency and also i presume the logic and reason of like hey. This is kind of the reality we happen to live in given this whole pandemic thing. Well the pa. The players association agreed to all the roles that i just described terms like the timelines in the regulations that apply to player so i think it's pretty obvious that they want players to get the shot just like the league but then once those rules are agreed to it's the job of the union like any union to represent all of their players based on the rules that have been laid out and i think that's what they're doing Walking that line between the goals of the players and the league and the rights of those players that have been collectively bargained now. I should say in mentioned that some players are backseat. I i think you're much more likely to hear about players. Not being vaccinated if they're stars or they're not expendable because let me tell you if you're a player who is not a star or is not even guarantee spot on the roster you probably got shot because otherwise. You're probably not on nfl team. Yeah i think of unvaccinated quarterbacks. Like lamar jackson like kirk cousins. I think of noted unvaccinated rap star cole beasley and i wonder me and gives hierarchy. That's taking shape in locker rooms. Do you think that this dynamic is going to be a major storyline as the regular season pushes on. I think it's going to be a story. Line pablo if players actually missed games. Fans might not care now if a wide receiver. A quarterback has to miss a few days of practice. But i'll tell you they will care if they are not playing on sunday. Not just fans the players. The coaches teammates. Everyone in and around the league. It will be a huge story and it will cause drama. All right speaking of drama. Meena i will let you go back to your precious war room and all your cool new football friends angle. Check back in with you later. We're still friends pablo. That's what my ex girlfriend said..

"Was last year. That's interesting. Now. That's interesting. Did not see that though, was Roethlisberger the office of Captain. I believe so. Yes, okay. Who was the defensive captain. I have to go back and look. Steelers captains hold on. 388 is normal. I think three seems like Nothing. I mean, unless they have more, But these are the three guys that might walk out for the coin toss. I'm not really sure No R r 2021 team captains. This is it. It's Ben Roethlisberger, Cam Heyward and Derek Watt on special teams. That's it. That's what they tweeted out his bride. No to him. Yes, keep building that drama in Pittsburgh, baby, what's going on with T. J Watt bills captains this year. As Joe just told you about a little while ago. So you gotta figure um defensively hide poi Er Edmonds offensively. Diggs. Alan Special teams read Ferguson Tyler Medicated in Taiwan Jones three special teams captains. I figured that's how it's gotta break down digs first year, Captain for Digs I think he might be. Was he last year? I'm looking back at the 2020 captains, right? No, I don't think he was. Right? Yeah, very queues was, uh Tremaine Edmunds. So second year for him, Jordan, Boyer read Ferguson, Dion Dawkins and Andre Roberts and Tyler this first year for Malkovich as well. Right, you know? Well on Andre Roberts leaving if you want to put another special teams guy on there, although they did to Taiwan Jones as well, and he was not a captain last year, either. So was Micah Captain last year? I I remember Jordan was, but Michael wasn't I don't not hear your captain's from last. Okay, Go ahead, or Joe, did you just name them? I only named a couple of okay. Yeah. Just 2020 Oyer Edmonds. Allen read Ferguson, Dion Dawkins. And I think the last one was Andre Roberts So no offensive lineman this year. Right? But you didn't have a receiver last. That's right. Okay, well, the bills have 18 team captains, eight team captains. This year, and the Steelers have three which is really interesting. The bills have announced that we have that for you. Check it out on Twitter. I just retweeted it from the bills as well. You can always get in touch with us at 80305 58 88. 5 52 5 50 the storyline brewing in Pittsburgh. We talked about T J Watt. Is he going to play? We're focusing more on the macro. By the way, as this week goes on, Joe, we're gonna do a lot more stuff. You're gonna have guests from Pittsburgh. A guest on Thursday, talking about the Buccaneers and Cowboys and the opener. Um we're gonna do some gambling stuff here on the show. Yes. Okay. Don't worry. Now we're gonna be looking at betting lines and such. You know, we might do some. There's room. That board is usually for Mike and Chris. There's also a chalkboard in here if we ever have any bets between us, too. So what? We'll find space if that if that comes about I'm looking forward to talking about the Steelers, too, because They've got four rookies starting on offense Sunday and including 1/4 round rookie Dan More Juniors projected to start at left tackle weak one for them. Like. Did you see what Gregory Rousseau did? The seventh overall pick in Penny Sewell. Um, I think maybe he would play the other side than the left tackle. But there are guys on that offense that I even as like, the deepest fantasy nerd you've met guys I don't really know much about. So Pittsburgh couple of new guys there, the the the distinct advantage in this game. Could very well just be the Bills defensive line against the Steelers offensive line. The question is, Is it going to be that distinctive an advantage and if it's not Joe, we may have make we might be coming back here next week. Asking Why. Why did the bills defensive line not dominate the Steelers offensive line because to me, that should happen. This is one of the weaker offensive lines. You're gonna play all season. It's got to happen, and for all of the resources you spent on the defensive line. This is why I like to not have that be a question going into a game where there's clearly a what looks to be inferior unit you're going against. Sean McDermott said it himself last week, Sean McDermott said to the media. It's We're done writing about the defensive line. It's now time for them to play. Yeah, I think if you could. This may be a show topic for later in the week. But if you could tell, tell me One guy had a breakout game in week one against the Steelers. I'm not sure I care who it is. I guess if you make me pick, I'll pick Gregory Rousseau for this, but the confidence that you'd have in the defense going forward for the rest of the season and the pass rush. If Gregory Rousseau came out on Sunday and was just unstoppable, just complete, pushing Roethlisberger off of his spot and even Rosberg and get rid of all quick, putting his hands up and making it tougher for him to throw through the shorter passing lanes. If Russo comes out on Sunday and just balls I mean, I have super excited, confident. I know me too. And I keep thinking, Oh, because he's new to you know, we we expected from Alan. We expect it from digs we expected from true, devious white. But like a guy that came out and just had a dominant performance to me were so outranks. Do you remember what you thought about Stefon Diggs before? He actually played in a game for the bills last year when they got him and you're thinking about him? What did you think leading into the season before It happened? I thought I wish I wished he was DeAndre Hopkins. That's what I remember. Like what I loved the trade, but I always remembered like, but I wish I had the Hopkins trade and digs was kind of like this sneaky good receiver like Matt Harmon of Yahoo's one guy that I pay attention to a lot in evaluating wide receivers, and he always had digs like this elite. Play out. The position is lead that just didn't get The opportunities in Minnesota, so I think I always thought of him as just like, maybe under the radar, you know, top 10 wide receiver in the league, but I didn't think he had in him..

"You know, we want to build this thing around coverage and that's great. And look, the bills have a very good secondary, But you need a pass rush. The pass rush makes your coverage better. The pastor's makes your coverage. It makes their lives easier back there, so there just hasn't been enough of a pass rush. Gregory Rousseau was really interesting to me. The knock on him is okay. He had a lot of sac production sacks aren't the be all end all and you know, he didn't have enough pressure and etcetera, etcetera, Uh, I think there's something be said. For a guy who has a lot of sex because he puts the quarterback on the ground and again. You don't want to just focus on one game against Patrick Mahomes. But what do we see? Last year? You know, in that AFC title game, there were one or two opportunities to put him on the ground on key downs, and they didn't quite do it. You go back to the Shawn Watson play from two post seasons ago. I think Russo is Yeah, we're not talking maybe a consistent all pro guy, but I do think he's enough of a boost. Maybe a Whitney, merciless and not not quite the same body type, but The more role put him inside, create some havoc on as an interior Russia here and just get a quarterback on the ground. I think that's what he brings here, and I think that is and potentially enough. To sort of get that secondary back to where it was in 2019 2018, because I think it was an overachieving defense and McDermott's first couple years, and it just slid back a little bit, and that's It's kind of natural at this point, but they need to figure out what their happened. What's going to go on with that pass rush and you know, based on what they did in the draft, that is at suddenly they realize as well. Yeah, one last one. How many losses to one team until you're allowed to have them in your head. And I mean necessarily for the bills, but for bills fans because last year they lost to the Chiefs and the loss to the Chiefs in the championship game. And they played the Chiefs in week five. And I think looking at the schedule it could be for an old Buffalo against the Chiefs. And you know you don't win the Super Bowl in week five. What I really think that you know we can circle that game for the bills because that it's the only hurdle they haven't really cleared. They've beaten everybody else but lost to the Titans last year, but they beat the Titans with Ryan Tannehill. The only pad test they haven't passed is the Mahomes Chiefs test, And the funny thing is Gary. It's not even that they they can't stop. Mahomes. Their offense has not been good against the Chiefs either. See Spagnola had the answer so It seems to me like that's the game. That's the matchup that the Bills have to find a way to show their own fans show the football world like we can. We can play with this team and we can score on them. I mean, look, the Chiefs aren't everyone. I think I think it's already done. I think they're already in the bills had a little bit and they're not alone. I think the Ravens are having the same issue down there in Baltimore. It is like you said. They went in there. I think back to the regular season game last year where yell at they went in with the plan of okay, my homes is going to beat us and the chief. They beat them anyway. I mean, the the chief stay on the field. They ran it down Buffaloes roads and and the offense didn't have enough in that game. So, uh, it's going to be a thing. That's just the way it goes. And you know, the Chiefs are probably going to chief should be favored to beat everyone in the regular season. So you'd think they probably beat the bills and This is going to be something that just sort of haunts them until until they slay the beast here, And unfortunately, patron home isn't going anywhere anytime soon. And, uh, it's just going to be an annual thing here. It's a good problem to have, you know, I mean, it's much better than bills. Fans lived in the hunt forever. Exactly exactly. Gary, Thanks for the time very much. Gary Gramling of SA dot com and mm QB Thanks very much enjoy the season. You got it, guys. Thanks for having me. Alright. That's Gary Grambling. Um Yeah, I just I love the Chiefs angle. I don't mean to say like in your heads as and you can't perform. I mean it of a standpoint of when you if you when you do Finally conquer that opponent. It'll be rewarding week five or whenever it is, you know, Playoffs, of course, would be more important. But the Bills win that game week five. Prime time in Kansas City. I just I just know what Monday is going to sound like the Monday right after I just know. And we're already talking Super Bowl last last year, That game was Would I be wrong? Britain would be wrong to say Seattle last year, the Seahawks come here and we had looked at that game. Russell Wilson's An M V P candidate and the Bills put up 44. And blow out the Seahawks, and that day it became. We know this team is good. Now we think this team is really good because Seattle is a tester. It's not quite the level of the Chiefs, but You're a contender after beating that team, And I just think that that times 10 is going to be that chief scheme if they find a way to win it. Yeah. I mean, last year that Seahawks game was arguably the kind of the turning point of the season in terms of Oh, hey, this team is Legitimately now a contender. I know the next week after that, I think it was they lost the Cardinals. But from that point on, I think a lot of people have the confidence that this team can score. This team can put up points and and be able to compete with the best of the best teams in the NFL. I mean, And when you they continue to go through the season, they're beating teams like the Chargers, the 40 Niners in prime time They're beating man. I'm trying. I'm having a brain fart with the schedule from blast season, but the Rams to say them. I mean, that was earlier in the year, but still they're going up against these teams, especially later in the year, and they're they're not even making it a close competition there almost blowing teams out of the water. They put up the best scoring season in franchise history. And I think that's really the point where everything sort of changed with the way that are approached with this team kind of is and going into this season. I have those same high expectations of the season and especially if they go out, and they do beat the Chiefs on Sunday night football and and Do their work and kind of, I wouldn't say get revenge. But, you know, kind of make up for the loss in the A F. C championship game and kind of set. Their focus is even to that next level. I think that's that's kind of where your your mental approach has to be with this team going forward. Yeah, and you know, they might say around the time of that game. Oh, it's just any other opponent. You know, we don't know. Different every week is the same like No, It's not You say that then you if you win it like Yeah, That was a big one, You know, for sure. Eight or three or 5 50 to join us. 18885 52 5 50 If you want to, uh, you know, throw up a thought our way I've been teasing this Paul Tagliabue story for actually a couple of hours now. "That some of the best of all time they talk about it a lot differently DJ like that was one of the more impressive interviews and I would say that not only being in the media from one but but really put it on the Scout had like to have a player be able to give you that kind of feedback to be able to walk you through moose. We've talked about it. We've interviewed quarterbacks and had them a walk us through your week of preparation because you just kind of want to know where they're at. That was about As Good As It Gets In terms of the detail thought he is being able to express about where he is and in terms of how he attacks what he's learned how he wants to put him in practice. Someone is going to get a fantastic player who has so much developmental potential that he could be an outstanding player like exceed whatever your expectations are off the tape. He may be able to exceed that because he's so coachable and malleable. So my favorite part is just little nugget that we got from the dead. View and that is because he redshirted a year right we know he got hurt but he redshirted year had one year with 15 and 1/2 sacks or whatever he did and then this year didn't play so you can say oh it's a limited track record. He has to play the position very often has receiver in high school safety on what he he just snuck in that little line that his freshman year before he got hurt in the scrimmages. He had four sacks and won three secs and another, you know, like some guys are put on this Earth to rush the quarterback. This kid after having immediately transferred from being a receiver to a pass-rusher at an ACC school has seven sacks and two scrimmages. It clicks it clicks. It's natural is natural a bit of a dancer ballerina type with the strength and the physicality and and being able to put it together. And because he is a cut a quick study man. I would love to like dig into his background and just see man what how many different sports did he play M was coming up. Is he a basketball player was the illegitimate basketball player or not? Like what does this work look like when he's on the court and when he's doing things because for him to pick it up like that DJ. He has to be an a level Because even a level athletes sometimes can't get the coordination to be able to do it but for him to be able to do it and to do it in games and have success that's remarkable. Yep, and I thought it was interesting USC wanted him as a wide receiver unless you want him as a linebacker. I think that tells you where the priorities are with those two with those two programs those kind of funny how long that like in the SUV? Like I've heard Nick Saban say you take your best players your best athletes you put them on time. You were about the offense later..

"I want to have a good get off. I want to show that I'm quick and I can move I could drop back in coverage. I could could play the 1 to 3 to 5 to 7 to 9, I could drop back. Like I said, so just to show my versatility, you know, and I can do it all and I'm real coachable guy dead. And and definitely like I said, I'm just working on getting more explosive so I can have a real good get off when I get to lie, cuz know those taxes are a lot more athletic and they're bigger. So I I'm definitely been working on my lower body like explosion and I get off one of the things we like to ask guys. Is there going through this process as you know, what kind of adversity have you dealt with because that's a lot a lot. A lot of times you look at guys that fail the next level. It's because they haven't had adversity or they have a lot of adversity. Well, is there an example in your life you could be on the field or off the field where you've had to battle through some tough times for me? It's all this time. Probably be more like a hurt my freshman year cuz I came to Miami earlier old had a real good spring. You know, I know the streaming is it was a couple of scrimmages. I got four steps in one. I got three steps another. I was just out there having so much fun. And then I got hurt like sent him and season and I was just like walk in a dark place at that time, you know, that was a real tough time for sure like it took a lot out of me but like my friends and family to Rally around me my teammates, you know that they help me out with everything whether it was dead. Me to class and pick me up from from dinner or or getting me to practice in the morning cuz I couldn't drive I was on a scooter for like eight weeks. So just that was a real tough time for me and not being able to play football and it's like when you get home like it's like the teams like the train and train just like it's like you just get off on a stop and it keeps on going but you just gotta keep your faith. You know what I like stayed state of my faith in God. I prayed about it, you know and thought I was blessed enough to bounce back whenever great year, but that was definitely the hardest like time.

"So I took this bullying at a lot of places and came by this pushing him back real simple to speed the power like you said and yeah, I feel like like like when I watch somebody I'm just going to almost take off almost take away their giving you know, it all during the Duke game I think is where the last games of the season and I feel like during the beginning of season. I didn't get too many snaps. I was only playing like North Carolina game. I probably at 13,000 Mi probably at like twelve or fourteen. I was really rotational player in like I wasn't as comfortable yet but dirt as a season kept progressing. I got more comfortable and I and I became I got to a level where I could like dude would be like, all right. I'm going to do this. I'm going to try this out, you know, even though I didn't have to I didn't try too many moves. I knew I had some in the bag and I wish I wish I could have played and brought about this year cuz cuz I definitely got a lot more moves but dead. But yeah during it towards indices like the ball game. I gave a due to heavy and went around and got a sack like just just I work messed up for practice but during towards entities. Like I said, I really started to like just come into my own and it's I got a lot more confident while I was on the field for sure, you know, so because you're in this unique circumstance where you won't play in the fall, but then if covid-19 de subsides a little bit and we go back to a normal calendar where we should have like the combine and the pro days and those things what are some of the things that you want to either show scouts or tell Scouts to kind of solidify yourself as one of those top guys, even though you didn't play this fall off. Oh definitely my pad level in this to be Chris. I want to be real Christopher D line drills. Also Marshall. I'm explosive. I want to run a good 40. I want to have a good get off. I want to show that I'm quick and I can move I could drop back in coverage. I could I could play the 1 to 3 to 5 to 7 to 9, I could drop back. "I was never serious about it. So he really just told me that man. That's your future like your future that you can make a lot of money playing being so I stuck with it and he was a great hundred percent. Now you talk about playing the end you also they'll move you around and some of your sub stuff you get to go inside and rush over guards, which was not a fair fight in there. When you're when you're watching tape during the week walk through your preparation process your, you know, putting together your Rush plan during the week. What are you looking for? When you're when you're studying an opponent first, I'm looking for like pre-snap stuff to see like let's say you're the tackled dog. The tech was foot points out or whatever. If it's the password or hands might be crossed like this or a little bit higher for the password. It might have two hands separate if it's a pass play. I'll look at I look at death. I look running back off the backfield see if it's going to be like a replay or fees like a little bit split out like he's going to flare out or she's in a block. So I'll look at a whole bunch of pre-snap stuff first and then I'll look at the actual tackle or guard. I'll be going against a look, see if they're a high puncher a low puncher and this is see how they're blocking if they're aggressive or not. And what will work against them if they're quick on your feet. They're heavy under feet and they enter or if you're like scared of power or if there's orbital want to throw hands. Can someone line. We'll hold your hands to hold them. Hold them hold until you shoot and then they'll try to like or they might flash you and make throw your hands and then they'll start trying to block you. So just looking at all that stuff and just really suck a feel for what my opponents go to block and tendencies are that's what I really do during the week..

You know, Greg i'm be honest with you just listening to you your Insight and knowledge in terms of young artists. Like that is something that that's very unique and and I'm saying there's like humbly saying like having played with like Bruce Smith and Derrick Thomas and we we drafted Julius Peppers like that is uncommon for someone to have so much detail at this age and I want to ask you because Chuck Smith is known as one of the best teachers when it comes to hand skills and hand placement teaching pass-rush moves. What have you been able to pick up from him since you guys have gotten together? He taught me to cross chop a couple of weeks ago. I moved out you see Aaron Donald doing and and TJ TJ watt does real well and it's really becoming like one of those jobs that I didn't have too many moves last year..

"If you can do something this game then maybe he's got a chance to create some momentum for himself. Yeah. I don't know if he's missing the right style quarterback and Jimbo Fisher's offense to have success. I don't think I don't know if he throws it well enough money to be very successful. I don't think he know if he throws it well enough to really be a high-end NFL prospect but I'll say this Texas A&M certainly have some dues. I think they will get Alabama's best game. I think Alabama was bored and disinterested with yeah. I don't think they really saw them as serious challenges. I think we will see A Better Effort from the Alabama guys, and that's scary based on the people that they the players they have. I think the other game is the one that is really compelling you talk about Auburn and joy, Georgia, JT Daniels should get to start for the Georgia Bulldog. So the see him go from playing in the Pac-12 wage. Planet USC to play in that conference that SEC with in the head down between his that should be an interesting game and I'll say this Auburn from a physical standpoint off or burn is exactly what you want to see like physically the way they play particularly on defense will get a chance to see some really good players pull it up and I'll get a chance to see if JT Daniels has an opportunity to be one of these guys that we talked about down the road because his toughness is going to be tested in this this inauguration game for him and he SEC. Yeah, he's got speed up his clock a little bit from watching him and let's see even the play that he got. He's got a speed that up. He's going to figure out real quick on that filled with those athletes. You better you better speed it up. So that's going to hit challenge. Yeah, it is going to be a shout. He also gives from being in that are a system that I would say is very laid-back friendly then they explained in a different system. So you talked about speeding up the clock and processing can he do it in an offense that is a little different. They're not as easier to throw. Those aren't as the dog. So when you come in through the router e let's see what he is able to do in a different environment. All right, but let's bring him in here. I'm great. I appreciate you taking some time for us today. I know we've seen through the early portion of the Season. My name's got really good football team there in in all your buddies there, but how difficult was what that was that decision and what went into it really just it was a decision that me and my family talked about a lot we came to my mom was a covid-19. So just me having the opportunity to like retire her dead in in in his follow through with that and I had to do it for like just me and my family stuff but it it's definitely tough. Man, I'm good. I am good excited excited excited because long but we got another football weekend right in front of us and there's so many things to talk about. Yeah, we've got a fun episode today. We're going to talk to Gregory. So who's a pass-rusher edge rusher from the University of Miami who is one of a handful players one of the top players that elected to opt out of the season. So he is not playing for the Hurricanes this year. He's training getting ready for NFL draft. And so I'm curious to see what he's got going on right now because we've wondered aloud what what are these guys do that aren't playing in order to to prepare themselves for the combine in draft, but maybe not offer do it. So I'm looking for that conversation. Yeah, she'd be a great conversation. He's one of the more fascinating prospects to watch a guy who's really came out of nowhere to be one of the dominant Ed players. And so you just want to see how he's trying to log. His game without being able to play football this fall. All right back when you look at the Slate of games here real quick for the weekend. I guess College wise the one thing I'm looking forward to more than anything else is is seeing our guy trade Lance and what he does is his one game season this weekend. Yeah, DJ I think that has to be the thing that we talked about we can talk the college game where the NFL games but I think it's all about trade last. This is his showcase a one-game showcase to show NFL Scouts home where he's at in his developmental process what he looks like this year because we have an expectation that he might not participate in the spring. And so if you have an opportunity to make that corner office first impression, what kind of impression does he leave with 26 gallons that are slated to be as a game and I think this is a really tough game for for him because how do you treat this like do you put more pressure on you? Like oh, yeah. Do you put more pressure on yourself to say? Hey, I want to show them that hey I can run it. I can throw it. What if it's the one time that he he kind of stumbles and falls in terms of not having a A plus. Yep. Because he was so fantastic last year that we didn't really see him have a bad game. And so that is a lot of pressure as a I mean a a richer sophomore to come in and say I got one shot to really kind of song downlod Scouts. I think would be more impressed if he's able to just have a solid to better game with all of the pressure that's on him facing a one-game audition song. Yeah. Well, I mean the things that we liked about him were his decision making his poison accuracy. So don't abandon those things that have got you to this point those foreign and go out there and just play a clean game. He's played a perfect foil no season last year without turning the football over so just keep that streak intact and make good decisions get the ball where it needs to go..

"Fortunately for US though there will be players playing and teams playing including via top team in the country Clemson Tigers which if you haven't heard it episode one Oh, seven I really went through and broke down every position offense defense and kind of the outlook for Clemson, and that's GonNa to be the main storyline. We'll get to who I think actually I don't think a win it all this. Year there you go. Spoiler alert and it's not going to be on this show. But next week I want to talk about who my who I believe will win the national championship this year, and if you didn't follow last fall, I was pretty on point with a lot of my predictions and and breakdowns. So we'll see if I could hold true certainly guru but I kind of know the game. But cannot even anyone unseat Clemson that is my question today on the show and there's two horses in the race that seek to win the ACC that haven't illegitimate shot. I would legitimate they have a shot one is not notre dame the other is North Carolina and I want to talk about how they match up against Clemson. And if you listen to the breakdown, I, think one of the big question marks outside of the defense returning a bunch of people a bunch of. Replacing a bunch of players outside of the defense, I think Brent Venables gets it right I think the youth at the line position is a major major question mark. They only return left tackle Jackson Carmen. The other four offense alignment are going to have to develop and it's tough an offensive line developing. With four new players and so here's what I looked at I looked at how are we gonNA, know. If this offensive line can win a national championship because they they need to. That's where you went. You went up front it's no secret, and so I'm looking at the MASHUPS and they have to match ups outside of Notre Dame and probably North Carolina in the ACC championship game that I'm very excited to watch, and the first one is October tenth against Miami, and it's not because I think Miami is GonNa win or even as a chance that's because Miami has two of the best defensive ends in the United States of America and they're going to put pressure on those offensive tackles and it's going to give us a picture. October tenth I mean in a month on how good Clemson is at on the edge pass Bro will they be able to protect trevor? Lawrence, Jackson Carmen is a pretty. We already have a good picture that he can pass pro at any level and the question is going to be can there right tackle pass Bro and here's why Gregory Rousseau is the number one edge rusher. In America, he had forty six pressures in sixteen sacks. Last year he's projected is the first defensive end off the board in the draft he's going to give Jackson Carmen everything he can handle and on the other side temples. Miami got a temple Grad Transfer Quincy Roche who actually was second in the country with sixty eight pressures and at thirteen sacks. He was a monster albeit at temple, but a monster, and now he comes in to the ACC at Miami and he's going to have to go up against Jordan. McFadden the right tackle at a Clemson and I think he's GonNa give him at least give them a test. We'll get to find out how good he is. So that's the first thing both of those both those the ends were top ten in the in the country last year in sex. So that's going to be a huge test and the last test which will be before they probably played north. Carolina will be that November twenty first matchup against Florida state that'll give us a great picture of Clemson's interior. Linemen. They have inexperienced three inexperience guys at the garden center versus two of the top four Interior Lineman in America Marvyn Wilson and Corey. DURDEN are both projected first second round picks. So you're going to get to see how those interior linemen could do in the run game trying to move those massive mountain of men and also can they pass? Bro Marvyn Wilson is a athletic dude for his size as its durden. So I'm really excited to see how those two matchups play out and you're going to get to watch A. Test, it's like a it's like a mid term right when a college student takes a mid term, it doesn't mean that that's his final grade. It doesn't it's not the final exam but you get a great picture of where you're at where you're at on the spectrum and really on the national landscape can they be an elite offensive linemen and the first major test they're going to have is against Notre Dame on November seventh, and you talk about offensive line play. This is the top returning offense a line in the country. In South Bend Indiana, all five starters returning, they were number one in F as a collective group in pass pro, they had ninety four point, two, percent efficient and pass pro. The collective group is a five. They actually only had one guy that allowed to sex all four other starters allowed zero Leeann Mike and Berg is projected first round pick you allow zero sacks on five hundred pass pro snaps they only allowed sixteen total sex in. The whole season forth FBI an online only allowed two of those. But the thing for Andy is at this game is at home and it is a game six of a six straight week midseason grind for Clemson if you if you can classify Georgia tech and syracuse is a grind but there at least they're playing six weeks in a row. Now here's what I want to make clear. Notre Dame will not beat Clemson in my opinion. And here's why Ian Book. If you look solely at stats, he looks like he had a decent year last year he does but when you watch the film..
