"Is in a slump. And is in one of those swamps that 9th shouldn't be in heading into the best or the most important moment of their lives. We're talking about a player that has 7 goals for the U.S. men's national team, but if we analyze those 7 goals, two of them were in a 7 zero win against Trinidad and Tobago, one was in a 5 win, 5 one win excuse me, World Cup of qualified against Panama. And the other was four goals against Granada. Goals are goals. But when that competition is increased, whether it's Mexico, whether it's Canada, whether it's thought about whether it's Morocco, Uruguay, you start seeing some lapses in his play. You start seeing these blind spots that many see that maybe Greg Martin doesn't see. And that is worrisome for a suicide Ada because confidence is key for a striker. So I think it's everything but I disagree a little bit on this idea that the goals have truly dried up, right? I know we see the last 7 there. If you go over his last 5 games in Major League Soccer the last three of the regular season and the two games in the playoff, there's zero goals. But if you go to the 5 games immediately before that, I'm not picking random 5, just the next 5 before that, he had 6 goals in those 5 games. So I think we can say he streaky and right now in this very, very brief window, he is struggling. But if you look at his last 14 games and this is where the big concern comes in in Major League Soccer, he has one assist and the story, the narrative around Jesus vereda is he's a ten baked into a 9. He brings all those others into the game. That's his strength. Now, I'm not saying assists are the only metric to prove if you're bringing others into the attack. But one assists in 14 games, that's not nearly the production that we're likely or that we have expected to see from him in MLS. I don't think it's fair to call Ricardo peppy clinical yet, but in terms of finishers, I think you have to put peacock one, then right now, based on what sergeant's doing, he's number two. Peppy right now, if we're going off hot, he's ahead of that eta. Off of finishing absolutely, because for data isn't there for his finishing. And Greg brehal has said so, Greg brehal has gone out of his way and say he looks for different things from his 9. You saw the last window, those two games were the midfield was not exist in the second game and got better because of Tyler Adams, but when he went to players who needed possession, looked at players who needed to drive the ball 'cause Eunice Musa wasn't there from point a to point B point C, there was no creativity. There was no player that felt comfortable with the ball at his foot. Here you have a player who feels very comfortable, playing centrally with the ball at his foot. And in the final third is productive. So yes, he should be in the mix. Yes. He can play over players. "Japan, aside from a shot on goal, hurt, what do you want to see from the United States men's national team against Saudi Arabia on Tuesday? That would be nice, right? Listen, we've heard many of pundits say this many a time. Taylor 12 minute alludes to this all the time, his plan B, right? Right. Gregor halter wants a system. These players that you have maybe don't fit set system. But you're still trying to put in a square peg into a round hole. What do you do when that doesn't work? That's what I want to see because as Greg berhalter alluded to everybody in this very platform and interview right there, what we saw. He's got 5 starters that are missing. So that's half your starting lineup right there. I have your starting lineup. So if you don't have them, who will you be? If you can't have them because you also alluded to health issues, come the World Cup and how every manager is praying, who are you going to be? So I want to see a U.S. men's national team that, if you can't play out of the back, if you can't do wing progressions, if you can't have a 9 who's only good at interpretation of space and movement and creating things for others, how can you be effective? How can you generate goals going opportunities and not give up so much at the backs of your midfield is in plain back to goal and chase and chattels. Shadow, excuse me. That's what I want to see. All right, so I wrote down a few things here. I wrote down emotional response, right? Because in a tournament, I figure you might have something that goes against you and you have to respond to it. I don't think we can say that we saw an emotional response after the first half against Japan. Clearly, Greg berhalter wanted that. He made four changes. Did we really see an uptick in performance in that second half against Japan not really? So I think an emotional response where you see an improved performance here would be something fans could feel really good about. Another thing I wrote down here is finishing. It's obvious, but there may not be a whole lot of chances for this U.S. team. It would be great to see somebody finishing. Could you imagine the conversations and how they would shift if Ricardo peppy puts in a goal, a brace, a hat trick in this game, what that would mean, not just for peppy, but for the confidence that fans would feel around this team, the only other thing that I'll throw out there and I want to get your response on this quick is something you said in the postgame show after Japan. You said we may now have a blueprint for how to beat the United States and there's one thing that I saw in that game against Japan. It was not just the back line, but a lot of the back line, a lot of the center backs being unable to deal with the press. So I don't know that we're going to see press from Saudi Arabia, but that would be the worry to me is if we see a press, how does this team handle it? Because I didn't handle it well against Japan and to your point, other teams are watching. Yeah, 'cause when you're the guy who's pressing, that's your speed. But when you are being pressed on how you deal with that, that is your speed of thought. And that is a big issue there. So how the not only defensive line, not only the center backs because it's not always on them, but the midfield and how they respond to the movement of showing and being an option to said center back or even if it's the center forward. And now we can come into the midfield and be another option. That will be important, but that blueprint will be there, especially because this is a very young team. Listen, it's easy when things don't go right when you get punched in the mouth for the plan to go out the window. But if you've been there, if you have something to fall back on, that speaks volumes. A lot of these players may not have the World Cup to fall back on. That's a fallback on, but they have the experience of playing at a high international level. So they need to do something to find that plan B to get themselves out of what other teams are going to try to put them into, which is pressure. All right, there we have it. Remind me a few things, where are these friendlies? You're up in Europe. A few other things. How many more games until the World Cup? Two, two, unless we get another friendly somewhere in the mix before the world. Right now, as we know, there are two games left for the World Cup. So, but it got a puppy coming off in a bismal time in the Bundesliga. He now has a new lease on life in the vizier, remind me again, if there's one player you had to say, save Greg berhalter's job in the opening window, World Cup of coffee. You say you say it, you say it. Yeah. Who was it? Ricardo peppy with the goals against Honduras very early on in the first week. Showing against the Salvador, it was an even worse showing time. For that. No, no, no, no, no, but listen to this, okay? It was a terrible 45 minutes where you're down when you're down a goal, okay? It's Ricardo Pepe, who has a hand or foot in all four goals that you score in the second half that give you life. Breathing room. It's also Ricardo Pepe that then goes on to score against Costa Rica and does well on the other games that give you some time to operate. Some time to make things go well. If I think I can play Gregor halter's hand, how he would Nico estevez being a friend of his being somebody who was in his coaching tree. I see Dallas trying to get into that MLS playoffs at a higher seed in the Western Conference final. I would think they've got a good understanding that probably it's just fed it is on that flight. "If you can get on the field. Jordan, the 25 year old, who is on an absolute role with Swiss club young boys. 13 goals in his last 17 games across all competitions, one slight problem, Greg berhalter's treated him a bit like a pair of non Nike sneakers. He struggling back in his only start of the octagonal against Canada back in September, not received a call up in the subsequent four windows. Once you take on it, I love Jordan P fuck. I love what he's about. He's a goal scorer. And a few national teams have the luxury of keeping goal scorers off their roster. So it's been a long time coming. He should have been on a long time ago. I've been in situations like that where you're on a good goal scoring record and you're not getting a sniff from the national team. It eats away at you, but it also burns that fire. It lights that fire for you and it becomes like a big F you every time you score a go like, all right, you're going to hear me. All right, you're going to notice me. And he's there right now. He's got a big part to play in this World Cup qualifying window. I think he will score some big goals for the U.S. men's national team. He's just the most informed goal scorer you have. You don't have the luxury of keeping players like that out. And he's also has a skill set that most players don't have on the national team. I mean, his movement in the box is very good, but he's a big man with that movement. I mean, he gets on the end of things so well. And in a situation where Greg pro halter prides the wing progressions and that play, and you can have players who are very good at in transition, maybe late in the games where you need a goal, like a la Honduras in the concatenations league semifinal. He could be that man. So I think he's got a huge role to play this World Cup qualifying window. I just hope Greg gives him that platform because he's a guy that's proven it. My American identity is at stake and identity some have questioned over many years. We Americans have all been down and out at different times, but we always fight back. I plan to do the same. You know, I've spoken to many in football who said that this is really a matter of player and coach butting heads. But what do you hear and how do you understand it? Let me start off with his comments about his americanism as a stake. I was confused by you're no less American by not playing a game. So that should never be in question and people who think otherwise are idiots. I will say we need to cut the BS with this situation and I will say this to John Brooks and to Greg berhalter, nobody's buying that is strictly football. Nobody is buying that it's form. That's not the case. The man is a key contributor in the Bundesliga. He was one of the most experienced players in the pool. He definitely has a place to serve in this national team. Now, whether you feel that starting or not, Greg barter, that's a different question for Greg berhalter. But he definitely should be part of this squat. Something happened. There was an incident a moment there was something that broke the camel's back. There was something that made Gregor halter in his eyes that made it unforgivable and he's excommunicated. It can't just be form. You don't get tossed out like that over form over a bad game. Now, people will point out, well, look at him last World Cup cycle against Mexico and against Costa Rica. Last World Cup cycle for taking that into account, you should be here this World Cup cycle. There'll be a lot of players who wouldn't be still here. Or a lot of things we would do very different. So that should go out the window. He's a very experienced player. I don't know if he'd be a starter. Right? Because that's up to Greg brahl to decide when he sees him in camp and how he wants to play. But the fact that he's not even in the roster tells me there's something greater. So I would ask that we cut the BS from both. And just say what it is. If it's the incident versus Canada, where his body language was less than favorable towards Greg berhalter, and that was caught on camera. If that's the situation, just say it. If it's something else, just say it. But nobody is buying that it's only football related. I love what you're saying about the American identity thing. It reminds me when I made the film behind the scenes in the run up to the 2014 World Cup when I live with the team for four or 5 months. One of the German Americans who was hoping to make the team laughed at during one film session with me, he said, you know, all the German Americans are getting tattoos of the American flag on their arms just so they can show improve that really, really American. It's ridiculous and then the next month camp when I turned up to film, that same gentleman turned up with an enormous star and stars and stripes and screaming eagle on his thigh going down to his ankle and it was really, really beautiful. Which brings us to the couch. Greg berhalter triple G three E's too, but they want to talk about them. To me, this window I mean, when I'm trying to be optimistic, this has to be his moment with a young, inexperienced squad to me. This is where he coach has to step up, show he can lead. This is really a big chance for Greg, who is yet to truly convince the step up sees this moment expunge the doubts and fears born of kuva. "When what you need is to take a step back to take a breath to sit down to look at a game from a different perspective a different angle anger. Excuse me, angle. And maybe yes, get angry. Get angry, that Gregor halter benched you. Angry enough that you want to prove yourself to everybody. Every time I hear a Christian talk, and I know that's maybe his personality as well, you know, I don't really care about these things. You know, he's very soft spoken. I want to see him angry. Not frustrated. Angry to prove himself. I'm the best American player step. Three years ago, we were here in LA on a show called nacion and you said he was already the best American player ever. I want to see improvement every single time he's on the field. I want to see him get angry with this teammates. I want to see him demand the ball. I want to see him be effective. I want to see him not be predictable. Every time he gets the ball he's cutting in when he's on the left hand side. I want to see not just big moments against Mexico. I want to see consistency. I want to see him. I want to see him prove himself here on the national team because guys like Landon Donovan, guys that Clint Dempsey, when they wore that Jersey, they proved themselves. That's what the greats do. He can be a great, but you have to prove it. Didn't you just warn Greg berhalter against destroying the confidence of a player like Matt Turner, destroying the confidence of a player? Well, those are two people. But what I am saying is you still see glimpses of Zack Stefan showing rust and indecision in some key moments and at some point we've seen that in previous games, that's going to bite them in the end. How much of an issue is that hurt? I mean, it could be an issue, it's valid point, you want your goalkeeper plane weekend week out, but if we're gonna have a conversation where he's gonna be put down under a microscope every single play and it's like, well, if he didn't do it a day, Matt Turner tomorrow, the same thing's gonna be set to every single player. I agree, came off and he hesitated, but I think that hesitations because he realized that I'm going to get hurt here, or I can get hurt you. I'm going to let off. Not maybe because of the rust that we'd have seen that in the past from Zack Stefan. I think you gotta take the good with the bad one Zack, Stefan. And I don't want a situation in case can elaborate on this where I'm doing this rotating chairs kind of thing with my goalkeepers and I'm making them doubt themselves and I'm putting them up against each other in a public eye. Because I think the one thing that Greg burlton hasn't gotten enough credit on is his ability to adjust. Obviously, he has made some interesting decisions, particularly in first haves and then change that in the second half and got a response from these players. And so naturally the team has adjusted to that. I think his 11s in both Mexico and in this game in Jamaica were spot on. Obviously, I think all of us assumed a little bit more time for Christian Pulisic, but obviously that's a delicate situation with him being out so long. I think it's gonna be very interesting to see who's available not in the December camp, but more so in that next World Cup qualifying cycle because if everyone is together and everyone is fit, what is that 11 look like with Giovanni rayna, Timothy waya Brendan, Christian Pulisic? Who are the 9s? I think he's gonna have some interesting decisions to make. And I think it's gonna be a fun discussion for all of us on the outside because I actually think there's some depth and some positions that everyone on the outside didn't think they had. And yet in saying all of that, if Tyler Adams gets injured, they're absolutely screwed because there's absolutely no one else within the pool that can play as a 6. He hasn't proven himself to be a durable player. And this is worrisome. So, if you can get 55 65 70 minutes out of him against Mexico and his quality minutes, I cap him there. I limit that there. Because I don't think you need to stretch him or overwork him or even play him against Jamaica, or else we're talking about another situation where he goes back to Chelsea injured and it's just a snowball of trouble. That's just it, isn't it? I mean, there's no G arena. Now we know no Sardinia deaths. We're gonna talk about that in a second. So some of your options potentially in that part of the field are thinning out. You need them, but you really can't risk them specifically hurt because of what you mentioned.
