Time captured in a capsule
"Welcome to catch Miss Mysteries I'm your host kid crumb today despite the fact that we have so many things going on with the corona virus, the economy just around the world kind of an upheaval I thought it would be interesting to look back at how people thought. This might look at long ago and will address time capsules according to the International Time Capsule Society Around fifteen thousand time capsules worldwide a time capsule could be a box, a bottle, literally a metal capsule, as often as time capsules contain letters and newspaper. Clippings about significant events, they also may contain letters and pictures created by children. Often school will bury a time capsule students ideas about what the future will be like some time capsules are meant to be opened fifty years but most have notes on the outside of the container asking that adopt be opened until a specific date. The oldest time capsule in the United. States was created by Paul Revere and Samuel Adams and is believed to have been buried in seventeen ninety five making the oldest known time capsule in the United. States. Time capsules have been discovered, but most have been purposefully dug up and open to time capsules out of Japan contain remnants survivors many time capsules are simply intended to show what was going on when they were buried in an area of Germany where German SS were trained time capsules beneath the floor refilled with Nazi Paraphernalia, including pictures of Hitler and two copies of his book Mein Kampf. Then there was a surprise time capsule discovered in plain sight at the American Legion post seventy six that had been sitting in. The lobby when they decided to fasten it down for safety sake, they discovered that it was possible time capsule from nineteen, thirty four but someone else have discovered earlier and left a note that stated simply thanks for the brandy note was tucked inside an empty brandy bottle many schools created time capsules usually elementary grades usually with the idea that in fifty years, most of the children are still in the area would appreciate the contents when the capsule was open fifty years later in the nineteen fifties, most children wrote about flying. And rocket ships by the nineteen sixties letters are about pollution becoming president demolition crews Albuquerque New Mexico, discovered a time capsule from Nineteen Sixty eight nearer former elementary school. Most of the children wrote about their favourite TV show but Greg Lee young men left a different kind of note, I'm dead. I. Go to Montgomery School that is the old school name I was born nineteen hundred you auto and I'm reading this directly. That's why it sounds kind of funny auto now no, I'm dead my favorite subject is spooking the police I play the guitar case you don't know what it is. A broken system, a broken city: Beirut
"In Beirut yesterday countless people began the painful work of fixing homes devastated by a massive explosion on Tuesday. One woman who'd mlk posted a video of her mother-in-law playing the piano as others swept up broken glass. The music is bittersweet, the city is reeling. The moment of the blast no one was quite sure what had happened there was a deep bass sound for seven or eight seconds there was a rumbling. and. We thought it was a localized explosion, maybe a gas main that had blown up across the street or a car bomb in the neighborhood. Greg Carlstrom is our Middle East correspondent. I A cafe. everyone, of course, left the cafe and started making their way home and it was only on the way back down towards the three Indian towards the ports that I started to realize the scale of the damage. There was, of course, broken glass everywhere carpeting, all of the streets all at the sidewalks pass through an intersection where there were several women sitting in the median holding cloth scraps of fabric bleeding from the head they'd obviously been hit by glass. And every building that you pass by not only the windows blown out but the aluminum window frames blown off. So. You realize that this was not a localized incident, but rather something that had affected the entire city center. The blast was felt as far away as Cyprus it registered as an earthquake in Jordan. It had come from the port of Beirut or something had set off an explosion of staggering size sending up a white mushroom cloud then a vast bloom of orange smoke. Yesterday the government placed a number of court officials under house arrest and again investigation. Declared a two weeks state of emergency. Residents are still coming to grips with the shock of the blast. Felt like it went inside us like a best our soul the way. I saw something bright and I lost my hearing for few seconds. An explosion just went out. The human toll of the explosion has been catastrophic the death toll officially more than one hundred so far, and that number continues to grow as rescue workers find victims who were buried in the rubble more than five thousand people injured by the blast and many of them had to go into a hospital system that was already stretched thin. We've had a spike in corona virus cases in Lebanon over the past few weeks, some hospitals themselves were damaged by the explosion hospital Saint George Hospital across the street from where I live. was so badly damaged that it had to halt operations and when I went by the hospital, you saw patients some of them still wearing their hospital gowns with intravenous lines in their arms bloodied from flying debris and shrapnel for nurses were killed. Fifteen patients on respirators died when the machines failed the other immediate impact is according to officials in Lebanon about three hundred thousand people were left homeless by the explosion. About five percent of the population of the entire country and what do we know so far about what caused the explosion? It seems to be the result of unbelievable negligence even on the scale of the perennially negligent Lebanese government back in two thousand thirteen customs officials in Lebanon confiscated the cargo of a Russian ownership that was traveling to Mozambique. The cargo was two, thousand, seven, hundred, fifty tons of ammonium nitrate, which is highly explosive chemical that is used mostly to make either fertilizers or explosives from mining and quarrying and other industrial uses. So this material was confiscated, it was put in a warehouse at the port and for six or seven years it just south there there was some talk of maybe exporting the stuff for giving it to the army to use but this required approval from the Lebanese judiciary that approval never came you've had officials at the ports and with insecurity agencies who warned this was tantamount to keeping a giant bomb on the doorstep of the country's capital. Those warnings went unheeded and of course, tragically on Tuesday it all exploded but I mean what kind of government would ignore warnings about tons and tons and tons of explosive material just sitting in a city centre the Lebanese government would it's almost par for the course for Lebanon's political class. This is the government that for more than a decade could not agree on a budget. This is the government that for almost thirty years allowed the same central banker to run the Central Bank Lubin, and to run effectively state-sanctioned Ponzi scheme to defend the currency peg it's a country that created a political and economic model that was totally unsustainable. Invested hardly at all in basic services even in good times, Lebanon can't provide twenty four hour electricity routinely struggles to pick up the trash piles up in the streets. It is a perennially negligent government and this is of course, a catastrophic example of that but it's of a piece with the behavior of this government over the past thirty years. So this is a population economy that was suffering quite a bit even before the blast it was the country has been slipping into a profound economic crisis since October the the currency. Lebanese. Pound which for decades has been pegged to the dollar. Began to break away from that since October? It's lost about eighty percent of its value on the black market which has contributed to runaway inflation in a country that imports almost everything from food and fuel to consumer goods. So, inflation running around eighty percent right now and for food around two hundred percent prices have become astronomical this summer we've had fuel shortages that have caused blackouts in Beirut normally three hours a day stretch as long as twenty hours a day this summer and the backup generators that people rely on to provide electricity when the state cannot those are either burning out from overuse or running out of fuel just one crisis after another point. which has led to widespread poverty in the country the the official figures the government thinks around half the country is now below the poverty line that could rise as high as seventy five percent. By the end of the year, there's been a spike in petty crime driven simply desperation. There was one man who was caught on TV robbing a pharmacy for diapers another man who robbed someone at knifepoint on the streets and a once busy part of town, and then came back to apologize for doing it and said, he he needed the money to his family. So it sounds a a years long problem has gotten really quite a lot worse very recently mean why hasn't the government been able to sort of keep things from getting so much worse? The current government was installed in January meant to be a technocratic government that would tackle this economic crisis and negotiate a rescue agreement with the IMF but. Six or seven months later it's made almost no progress. The negotiations with the IMF have really stalled at this point they've had about twenty rounds of talks. But is not even really negotiating with the IMF yet it's still negotiating with itself. You have the cabinet on one side. And the parliament on the other backed up by the banking sector. which are having this very arcane dispute about the scale of the losses in Lebanon's financial sector about how bankrupt the country is effectively. And so you have this surreal situation where instead of Lebanon negotiating with the IMF Lebanon is negotiating with Lebanon. The Fund has told Lebanon that talks are not going to advance unless there's an agreement on the size of the losses or if the cabinet pushes through a few meaningful reform of capital controls, law changes to the electricity sector things like that. Neither of these things have happened and there are increasing calls for the government to step down. Do you think that's the way forward I? Mean, what do you think should be done here to to bring Lebanon back to? A functional state though the problem is if this government steps down what replaces this government and a lot of the pressure on the government right now is is coming from the traditional powerbrokers in Lebanon the sectarian X. warlords who have divvied up power in this country for decades since the end of the civil war in one, thousand, nine, hundred, ninety, this power sharing agreement they have it was designed to keep the peace and prevent a return to conflict after the war. But it's been captured by the. Hands up power based on sect, which runs a massive patronage network The World Bank estimates that it costs the country about nine percent of its GDP each year but if it were to step down without broader changes to the country's political system in this power, sharing system would simply be replaced by the same cast of characters who have ruined the country over the past thirty years. But that power sharing system was was there to to keep the peace to prevent a return to civil war, and that was the argument for years for decades when people in Lebanon would complain about the corruption and. The negligence and the inefficiency of their government, the response would be well at least this is better than a return to the bad old days even before what happened on. Tuesday even before the explosion though that argument was beginning to lose its weights with a lot of people here you have a younger generation of Lebanese who don't have the same memory of course of the civil war that their parents or their grandparents had, and so as the country slipped further and further into crisis over the past year, people have been more willing to to break away from this system than they were before. And I think the argument that well, there could be violence if the power-sharing system was stripped away after what happened on Tuesday after half of Beirut was destroyed by the incompetence of this government I think that argument is not going to carry with a lot of people.

Mask up or pay up: Houston police will hand out $250 fines to people who aren't wearing masks
"Story at the bottom of the hour. Governor Greg Abbott says local officials may be contributing to the spread of covert 19 by not enforcing his mask requirement. But while some say they will start writing tickets, others say the governor hasn't given them enough authority. Charlie's Alan Sky joins us with a story live, Alan. Have the Tarrant County District attorney's office is the governor's order is not enforceable because he does not allow people to be detained. Judge Glenn Whitney says. Detaining someone is what police do when they pulled somebody over for speeding or not wearing a seat belt, so there's no way to write a ticket. But in Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner disagrees. He says police there will start issuing $250 find people who, after their first warning It's all about public health and driving. I would number down especially one schooling is scheduled to start in September following us right around the corner with flu season. August, then becomes a very, very critical and Abbott says counties do have the authority. He says. Counties that do not enforce the rules are choosing not to enforce the rule. He compared the mask requirement to the seatbelt law. And while they may disagree over their enforcement options, Tarrant County is reporting a dip in new cases of over 19. They reported just 303 cases yesterday in their lowest hospital occupancy rate since June 20 1st Dallas County reported 382 new cases that's their lowest number of new cases since June 16.

"Sent. He died for your sin, and if you've asked him to come into your life, he's forgiven you and if you've messed up, he'll forgive you and give you. A second chance I? John. One nine says we will confess Arsenis people in just to give us our sin and cleanses from all on righteousness. Listen to this Moses did make it into the promise land. Ultimately, you might say, no, Greg, actually wrong. The record here says that he was on the outside looking at he did not lead the Israelites into the promise I know that's what that record says but there's another record and the New Testament remember when Jesus was transfigured. The Bible says that Peter James and John were there and the Lord just shine like the Sun and there were two other people with them. Do you remember who they were? It was Elijah. Moses there were in the promised land in effect. So Moses did alternately make it in to the promise land I know he stumbled and fell I know he messed up but that was not the end of the story and it's not the end of your story either ultimately Moses finished his race. Well, I love the description, the Bible Gibbs of houses he's called Moses the man of God. What greater think can be said about you you're the man of God. You're the woman of God. If we were to go and interview your family members and them, this question is your dad, a man of God is your sister a woman of God. What would they ain't say Moses was a man integrity are you? David, is described as a man after God's own heart you go. Wait wait Moses murdered some Dude and David committed adultery and also in effect murder demand how can you say David after God's own heart and how can you say Moses is the man of God. The same way that I can say I'm a man of God or you're a man or woman of God because we've applied the blood in our life and we've been forgiven by Jesus Christ listen cod is.

Opened to the leading of the spirit. So the Lord said speak to the Rock Moses hits a rock not once but twice. Because of his great anger and anger is something we need to get under control. especially in, marriage right. You know when I meet young couples that want to get married the come to me and say Oh Pastor Greg will you marry us and I'll say how long have you known each other Oh we've known each other for a year. Oh great and then Alaska. This have you ever had an argument. And, they might say, no once we've never disagreed about anything else get out of my office right now go have a good fight. Because, you have to learn how to resolve conflict when you're married and I'd say a good fight I obviously am not referring to anything physical but I'm talking about learn how to disagree because. So often you'll have disagreement with your spouse often over the subject of finances by the way, and you'll have different points of view and it's very important that you listen to what they are saying here them out then respond with your point of view have a good change. But when the voices start rising and Tempers Start Flaring, then it's going to be completely unproductive. Clipped Barrels, who is the longtime associate, a billy Graham. He was with them from the very beginning and now clippers with the Lord as billy is but he said this and I love this he says, there are nine words that we should be willing to say every day to our spouse here they are I'm sorry please forgive me and I love you. That's good. Isn't it? I'm sorry please forgive me and I love you and then he said he knew might add these words as well. It was my fault. So. New of a conflict who's going to be the first to resolve it I'm sorry given the way we say I'm sorry they're lame apologies I'm sorry if you thought I was saying Because that was not my intention. So if I what I said, hurt your feelings because you misunderstood me, that's not an apology. Here's an apology. I'm sorry I was wrong please forgive me I'm telling you whatever attention you're having with their spouse right now if you would just say I'm sorry please forgive me I. Love You. You'd be amazed at how Much good that will do but here is Moses now he's in a range, and now the Lord is GonNa deal pretty harshly with him look at numbers. "But the people believe the majority report instead of the minority report and they just complained and whined and Moses put up with it. You know the Bible says, Moses was the meekest men on the face of the year by the way understand what meekness meek this is not the same as weakness. Let's say that. You're a scrawny little dude and you're on the beach building a sandcastle. The sad thing is you're in your thirties, but still there you are building your sandcastle and some muscular aggressive guy comes along and kick in your face and you don't respond why because you're week you no options. What are you gonNa hit him with your little plastic shovel. Now, let's change the scene. Let's say that you are an expert in mixed martial arts and you're building your sent council and that guy comes along kick sand in your face and you choose to not respond is that because you're week no, it's because you're meek because tower under constraint it's controlling your temper most had a temper but he put. Up with this, he was Meka meekest man on the face of the earth but there comes a point when enough is enough and Moses was fed up, he couldn't take it anymore and he literally just loses it because the Israelites seem to have spiritual amnesia, they seem to be forgetting all that God had done for them over the many years how God providing them food every single day right outside of their tent door and it was called at how God directed them with fire by night in a cloud by day how God watched over them how God parted the Red Sea for them but they forgot, and sometimes we get discouraged when we forget the fearfulness of God in the past. My Wife keeps a prayer journal and sometimes she'll say, Greg Liquid I wrote and my prayer journal two years ago look at what we were facing and look at how the Lord Goddess through it and the point of that is it's it's good to reflect back on the faithfulness of God because when you're going through something in the moment, you wonder am I gonNa get through it has God not been faithful to you in the past. The answer is, yes therefore Willie not be faithful to you in the present and whatever conflict you're facing right now the answer again is yes and will he not be faithful to you in the future in some one? Oh, seven, we have a record of all the God did for the nation Israel how he provided for them, how He protected them and then we read and someone seven, thirty, one Oh, the men would praise the Lord for. His goodness and for his wonderful works with the children of men, they just keep repeating that refrain remember that just give God glory for what he has done because Jesus Christ is the same yesterday today and forever he's been with you in the past. "Satisfaction of realizing that I've played my part done what God has called me to do and have had the joy of seeing the fruit of the ministry and of course with Greg. Good. You know his success came much earlier in life than did I was actually. Thirty eight years old when we started calvary chapel and of course, I was in my forties and in mid forties and all before I really began to see any really positive results and fruit of the ministry, and so here's Greg you know in his twenties began to see the explosive growth of the church there in Riverside and So he's going to have a lot more years of of being able to see the fruit, the grandkids and the great grandkids spiritually. But I wonder how many generations you'll be able to see greg by the time you get to be seventy nine. Well, I know that a church Maury dedicating a children of children have dedicated yes. So first, it was amazing. Well, here's these adults sending before me. You dedicated me as a job now is m dedicating their children you know, and that's a glorious thing and really what better way is there to spend our lives and then in serving the Lord and you never feel as though you've wasted anything mean look back in my life and they go give my life to Christ and seventeen O g delay. Miss, some parties or some fun times you know whatever I missed what few fun times are worry even in the world are nothing compared to all that the Lord has done in an I I don't regret any of it. In fact, I was I'd started even earlier though I started quite young because you just look back and say man, that's a good use of my time in of my life and you know wanting to see fruit that remains an and frankly I was the beneficiary of Chuck's. Preparation years because he shared with US less than Ta'ed learned early in life things to watch out for things to avoid things not to do as well as things to do in to embrace, etc. So having built on that, we were able to kind of get what you would call a jump start in life and get it very early. I didn't have to unlearn anything I didn't have any weird theological training or strange experiences and the church I just came as a a non believer with a blank slate for a mind and. I was saying, okay. Tell me what to do. Unfortunately I, was under the teaching of one of the Greatest Bible teachers ever who was able to kind of frame my thinking and then I was able to move from there. He told me you know users some good books to read these things to do etc and pursued that and you know so it's it's fruit I've always believed. It's fruit to Chuck's account. You know it's the Lord that you know one sows another reaps a god gives the increase. So it's ultimately got him we. Recognize that but having said that even Paul would say writing to the church you know your speak of his children and Christ and and so these people that are coming to faith it really is to Chuck's account as well because he said the framework for the crusade in I heard the word of God taught him from the earliest years there from Chuck and so you know we just praise the Lord for it. It's all for his glory, but but it you know it's all interconnected. So in a very cool way the Lord. was setting it all up and I'm just one of many I mean you know there's so many others that God is using. That are doing crusades as well like role reese and Mike Macintosh and others from Calvi Chaplain. That's not to mention though we know thousand fifteen, hundred, two, thousand, Calvary Chapel pastors are and many others that have been impacted by chuck I'm just one of many well, pastor check before we close Would you lead us in prayer? Be Very happy to father what a joy it is to again enter into A. They will just but submit themselves to you Annoy Greg Father for this crusade given strength. Give. Him Wisdom Lord. We pray that those that will be doing the music and all that felt each one be so annoyed by your spirit that people will be touched in Jesus name..

"And laughed at it was a joke to me. So I was trying to do something that a person would actually maybe stop and read maybe even charcoal out a little bit but then also would hear the word and you know in the Crusades that's essentially the same thing that we're doing with with from. You know if you go to if we could go back in time to nineteen ninety, the harvest crusade at the first Pacific amphitheatre would look. Different than the harvest crusade of today, it would be different in a number of ways. The the music would be different. The Look of the platform would be different, but the essence of it is absolutely the same as it was, and I expect God willing if we're doing these ten years today or twenty or something today, you know they'll be different musical styles that may be popular. There might be different tools or resources or technologies we might utilize, but it always comes down to just the the message of the Gospel and that's where you can't. With it, you can't monkey with it. You can't toy with it. You want to just keep it biblical. You want to keep it simple. You want to keep it in everyday language. And, then you want to give people an opportunity to respond to it. Greg Lloyd was amazing. Yeah little stories. You know normally know what it says to be a center. When he puts in a little stories, little visuals. He gets. What he said really really hit me i. mean it hit me hard some he said just clicked in my head and it just made me. Now, I had to give my life to Christ. I'm never accepted the Lord before never even hold the Gospel told that and it just absolutely blew me away. Blew me away. I think that if you would go to the churches here in Orange County, those that are really evangelical teaching the word that you would find every one of the churches here people who had been introduced to Christ in the harvest Crusades I can remember the one year that we had huge baptism down at Krona Donmar, right after one of the Crusades Third Crusader. So the tide was so high. Use the. The the pirates cove. So we had to go to the beach and we had our high don't know over a thousand people. Baptized Aaron of course, in the the surf was up and was just I got knocked over with a wave and. Voting into the Sherwood some lady sides. Surfing. That serving and it was it was really though very you know an in our church there are just so many people that made their commitment or introduced or brought to Christ through the Crusades and so because we've been going on year after year, and that's it has a long lasting effect throughout the churches in of so many of them, the people were first introduced to Christ in the crusade setting. So I think it's exciting. You know it's an interesting thing also dave is that I've met so many people now who are in ministry? Who came to Christ that the Crusades as in a church last week speaking and he was the youth pastor and he was introducing me he accepted Christ in nineteen ninety at our first crusade there at the theater and now is in full time ministry. Yeah this is Justin and I I did receive Christ in one thousand, nine, hundred, ninety at the first summer harvest Q. Sane and it was there that I for the very first time I. realized that it was because Jesus did on the Cross for me that made me right with God. After that got involved in local Youth Ministry and and today I'm one of the pastors on staff at Mariners Church in Irvine. California Hi this is Jack Hibs and I came to Christ way back in one, thousand, nine, hundred, seventy, seven on a Monday night as Greg. Laurie gave the message it was the first time. I had ever heard the Gospel and in responding I had no idea what God was going to do with my life. But some years later now, I'm now senior pastor of coverage Apple Chino Hills. And by the grace of, God, had been allowed to teach the Bible to thousands of people and I'm grateful to Pester Greg and all that the Lord is doing through his life and the evangelistic preaching of the word of God, one of the criticisms of large scale evangelism as well. Do you think all those people continue on with the Lord well? Of course they don't we don't say they do. That's why we describe those who have come forward over the years not as conversions but his professions of faith time will tell if they're conversions but our job so to speak is to proclaim the word you know when the Lord told us to go. So the seed, the way they sowed. Seeds in those days, they would just go and randomly throw the seat out into a field and then the soil essentially determine how you would react to the sowing of the seed. So I think our goal is to get the to as people as possible, and then leave the results in the hands of God. But you know when you do that sure people come forward and don't continue on. But there are those that come forward and only continue on but then they commit their lives to service, and now they're reaching people and then those people reach people and so the process continue. So that's what's really exciting to me with the passing of time TV able to see how that's happened. For some reason I was listening at one night and Greg was talking about this might be last opportunity you have. Come, little no one had ever put it to me like that. No one in the church I had been going to or in the church that I grew up in had ever said. You need to make a decision Greg was saying. No matter how good you are. You're never good enough. One of the scriptures he said was Bushel profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses a soul. And really strict on my heart because that's exactly where. When Pasture Greg. You know Florida's knocking is nothing your heart open up the door and let him in it just felt like my was just opening to him said, Hey, a few died tonight. Where would you go? And it was like pointed at the audience and it was almost like he was pointing directly at me it just the statement that hit hard at my heart. And it was not that point where I realize I didn't. WanNa. I didn't want. He without God. It was the way he was talking it was like me and him just sitting down with a cup of coffee talking about this is by the way. Jesus and this is what he can do for you. Guy Miller said it touched my heart. So deeply that when he gave the invitation, there wasn't anything else. I could do I had to go forward. Yes. I walked towards the field I almost like galloping down get down there quick enough. At literally ran. I was in the Marines six years. Father always trying to say men don't cry. That's all I did. I couldn't stop. Move. Pastor. Let me ask you after hearing that. What do you say to people who think that large-scale evangelism is outdated? Well, I do think that people don't really understand. So often of the Crusades and again in there are a lot of crusades that really don't produce long lasting results. You know the way the message is presented if it is an understandable and a logical way, it sticks with people. And and I think that emotions play a part but I think that so many evangelist sort of tend to play upon people's emotions. So that is a emotional kind of reaction rather than a true being persuaded intellectually this is the way to go. I mean this makes sense and and I think that's the gift that Greg has of making it makes sense. You've had a lot of years of experience and service in God's kingdom when Pastor Greg gets to that point many years from now, what is your wish for him when he gets to that stage in his era of service to Christ let me just say I just hope that he can have the same kind of.

"A relief after I did it. And I knew I was saved. A pastor chuck more than two hundred, sixty thousand people have made decisions just like that. More. Than three point three million have walked through the turnstiles since you had that idea in one thousand nine hundred ninety is is that what you expected to happen? No. Curse, the Lord always does exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or even think, and so you take a step and then you just stand back and you have your mouth open. And you know you just in awe of what God is doing and how far God is able to take something like that and just expanded and reach so many people. well, Pastor Greg many of our listeners know that that you grew up spiritually under master teachers right he's your pastor. What is it about his example? Bet His influenced you the most Lena that's a hard question answer because there's a lot of things I could say, but just sort of tying to this topic of evangelism. I didn't come from a Christian background at all I came from a rural secular hedonistic kind of a home as people may know my Mama's burden and divorced seven times alcoholic, etc. So it was a completely godless environment and frankly even before I became a Christian, I was really sick and tired of what this world had to offer and I knew there had to be answered somewhere I just. Didn't know where and it was a youth pastor that Kenema high school campus named Lonnie from calvary. Chapel. That I I. Heard and I made that commitment to Christ will then when I started going to cover I remember I was sitting there and in Chuck came walking out, you know no Lonnie was I related Alani because at the time I, had long hair just had here and it was But. Related to him as more of a peer. Okay. He's cool. But Chuck came out and he was more like the AIDS at my father would be. So immediately that you know some adult I don't know if I want to hear this guy I I don't think I'm gonNA. Really relate to this etc. but what amazed me was shot had a way. Of just speaking in everyday terms but yet it was the Bible back. It was Bible Exposition. I didn't know what it was that never heard before all I knew was I wanted to hear more so I would go to basically every study every night at calvary at that time, chuck would speak on Sundays of course, Sunday nights and I think took your money. And, you may be. Thursdays. And then Ken Gullickson did Friday nights and Lonnie was doing Wednesday nights I. Think in that. That's right and I went to all of it. I mean every single one plus I listened to this new technology at the time called cassette tapes and is now outdated of course but that was very edgy for them. Because don't forget we came from eight tracks. But you know I just couldn't get enough of it and I just found that chuck. You know interestingly though he is a Bible teacher and people think of that way a lot of times people don't know that really many ways chuck also an evangelist. He felt initially that he might be called to be an advance us but the Lord redirected him to be a pastor. But Somebody Tom's I would here in his messages these great presentations of the Gospel in a way that I can understand and then us as I saw to share the. Gospel in fact, it was one of sermons on inspired me to make my first attempt to evangelism, which was not preaching, but it was using my abilities as a cartoonist and I do a little booklet called living water. So to me, it was always, it was biblical it was practical. It was understandable it was authentic and it impacted my life and I wanted to go and do the same for my generation, and now I'm older than a lot of the people I'm preaching to. So I'm trying to do the same thing for the next generation. Do you need God's touch the night, maybe your life is falling apart. Maybe, you're trapped in a lifestyle. You can't get out of maybe your marriage is hanging by a thread. Maybe you're an engaging lifestyle right now we had a guy come forward a member of a gang up to that point at least. But he accepted Christ in these turned away from that lifestyle God can change a man like that. Might say well, that's great. You guys reach those down in outer St Joe's gang members to that'll raw meat tomorrow we will. We WanNA reach you to. A good person. I'm a moral person. I play by the rules. Yes I recycle it for you. You know Christ because you'll be asked that same question on that final day. This is not about how good of a life you live or how bad a light that you live 'cause you'll always find someone worse off than you. This is about the sin that separates you from God, because every one of US assent every one of us have broken the commandments of God every one of his stint separated from perfect and flawless God but God, you so much at two thousand years ago he said his son Jesus Christ not just a good man but the God man to die for your sins and shut his blood for you so you could be forgiven go to heaven when you die True Pastor check. Do you remember the first time you met greg he mentioned a moment ago that he had drawn evangelistic tract and he showed short on your porch with that. I remember very well. We lived rexy right near the High School Newport Harbor High and I do remember that he came to the door and he said that he had drawn up this cartoon I think it was in one of the classes in high school and it was the previous Sunday morning message done sort of been a cartoon fashion we were speaking on out of his innermost being there will gush torrents of living water, and so the track was called living water and. The guy with a heart and out of a heart, here's his fountain of water shooting up and so I looked through the track and you know we were talking about how people are looking to find the answers find something that will fulfill the emptiness, the void that's within and how the kids got into drugs and got into sex, and these other things all with the idea of trying to fill the void and so he put that in the track, and then how that you know through Jesus Christ? This not only the void is filled, but there flows fourth than out of that Empty Area, a fountain of living. Water. And so I said, well, this is great and so I had Greg Redraw or drawn in such a way that we could fold the cartoons so that they are in order as far as turning pages now, and we went down to Kinkos or someone. One of those shops had ten thousand of them printed and we got a bunch of kids aren't the church we cut them and. stapling them and all, and we set them out for the kids. To take free pass out to their friends and that first night, all ten, thousand God, and so we had hundred thousand printed up and they were gone and you know five hundred thousand and they were gone and that track just really had a very powerful impact on just kids all over the world night just thinking has chuck was saying that in many ways what I was attempting to do then is not. Unlike what we're doing on the Crusades two, they're just using different tools. You know then I was taking cartoon, but the idea was to build a bridge to a listener ended doing the way that they can relate to. Because back in those days, you may remember chuck that the kind of popular tracks had you know there are a lot of Hellfire and brimstone type thing you can try the flames on the. I'd read a couple of those before I was a Christian and I just threw it aside.

"Touch hundreds of thousands of lives through a move of God called the Harvest Crusade and I'm happy to introduce a couple of gentlemen who know more about this move of God's hand than perhaps anybody else this side of eternity. Pastor Chuck Smith is senior pastor of Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, and pastor. Greg. Laurie is senior pastor of harvest Christian. Fellowship in Riverside, California and the Speaker of the harvest Crusades gentlemen thanks for talking with us today. Good to be here. It's a joy. We'll pastor chuck. Let me ask you about this idea came up with more than two hundred, sixty thousand people have made decisions for Christ through the Crusades. How did this idea come to you and a wanted Greg say when you suggested it to him well, Greg was doing the money night studies for the young people here average chapel and the church was just crowded packed to capacity and kids were outside and all. So I just was wondering, Noaa we took it to a larger venue just how many would come out and is just a curious kind of. Idea on my aunt side of just how many would come. So I talked to Greg about maybe getting the Pacific amphitheatre and just do a one week I never crusade to. Lord would do now contrast the size of calvary. Chapel Costa. Mesa with the size of the Pacific amphitheatre. Well, Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa weakened seat Would say there's probably three thousand kids coming a Monday night and Pacific amphitheatre is eighteen thousand. Capacity Tumbler. and My response was chuck. That's a pretty big place. Isn't it and Chuck replied well, Greg we serve a pretty big God. So I thought you have a point there. But it really was a bold step of faith to do something like that in chuck envisioned in this sort of a billy Graham style crusade But you know a contemporary type, not the billy Graham's crusades aren't contemporary but it can an idea that we would take sort of what was happening on the money nights reaching the younger people and then do it any crusade style you know larger scale and obviously inviting people to Christ and the Lord honored, and in fact, as I recall on the first week by the time we were done we had broken all attendance records at the Pacific amphitheatre in the final night. Place was overflowing the there would people that couldn't get in there was traffic backed up to the streets. It was pretty crazy. Firsthand in orange. County the traffic is backed up on the fifty five freeway near the fairgrounds and on most of the side streets around the fairgrounds says some kind of religious event going on there tonight. It is called the harvest crusade religion with a contemporary approach organized by a minister from Riverside California if there's a religious revival underway in America, this may well be the leading edge. The last night was just absolutely wild. You remember what was happening Oh? Yes. This up first Persian Gulf War. Yes. So there was a urgency people you know all know this might be the end of the year. And it was just really though exciting because they had to finally just locked the gate out people outside we set up speakers for them, and then people just couldn't get to the fairgrounds. The traffic was so heavy around the area that they just couldn't get in. So it was just really far more than anything we ever anticipated or expected, and that's why the second year we decided. We take the. Final night over the stadium and so that we would have more room for people on the final night. Go figure you you go from a three thousand seat venue to eighteen thousand seats and then you run out of Rome. Yeah. Go figure. Well, I guess we do serve a big. God. Pastor has right well Pastor Chuck Greg, Aman speaking for many years on on Monday nights at at. The church where your senior pastor when did you first start to notice that God was was using him in some kind of a unique way in bringing people to Christ? Well, of course, we were able to observe it out there in Riverside as God just had his hand upon Greg's life and the anointing of the spirit on the messages and the way the church in Riverside was growing so successful. And then, of course, when he came down to take the money nights, it was instant. It was just right at the beginning that was packed to capacity where we just couldn't get anymore and so what do you think makes his kind of a communication unique or effective? Well, I think that it is so relevant to the present day situation. In other words, it's very current and he uses great illustrations that. People. Understand. He uses the thoughts in the ideas of frustration that. Are expressed by worldly people all the time but. Famous people that you'd think these people really got it made and you know when you hear of their frustrations and and all, and he's very was very good at illustrating in just the need that is basic within every man to Reno and to have a understanding of what it is to be at peace with God and to have that security that is ours in Christ Jesus. Two. Thousand. Years Ago Jesus Christ the son of God went to the Cross and died for the sin of the world he was tortured. It's humiliated crude spikes were driven through his hands and feet and a crown of thorns placed around his head and a spear thrusting aside, and he bled and died there why? Because we are all separated from God by our sin? And it wasn't nails that held Jesus that cross two thousand years ago it was love for you and for me for God so loved the World He gave His only begotten Son and who believes in Kim should knock Peres but ever lasting life. On loves you. The last thing he wants to do is see you face judge. That is why he poured his judgment on his son who died in your place. But if you will turned from your sin and come to Jesus tonight, you can be forgiven. I was listening. Pretty intently to what God was saying when he was talking about Jesus dying on the Cross. For me and was very personal to me. and. I just knew that something was going to happen I was on the edge of my seat and when he made the altar call, I had already made up my mind. And when he made the altar call, I just looked at my sister and I was sobbing and I got up and I just ran down there. and. Hundreds of people were coming. I am. Greg Helpless Dupree, he helped me to pray. For Jesus to come into my life into be my savior. And I did that and I felt. Such.

"That's all happened to you and me. We're walking with the Lord each and every day and then one day. The Lord says you're coming home now. It's it come on home, but that's what they did. They walked through and we need to walk through as well and they went to. The other side were God had called them. So we all are in this walk, and we're all facing. Our challenges in God is bigger than the problems. We are facing right now, and so we need to. Now as we walk with the Lord and see the answers, he gives to our prayers to give him the glory bringing me to my next point after overcoming the impossible give God the glory. After you overcome the impossible and you will, there will be situations that there's way out in God makes away where there wasn't a way. Haven't you had that happen? That's why it's a good thing to write down. Would God has done for you? Write down answers to your prayers, because maybe you're feeling overwhelmed right now, and if you would just reflect back a month ago or six months ago or a year ago, what you're facing and then remind yourself of what the Lord did at will give you encouragement in what you're facing right now. Pastor Greg Laurie while have the second half of his message in just a moment. Many listeners right or call us to share their stories of pain and loss, but also of hope. I mainly. Listen to the program every day. It's been very helpful for me and some things that are been going through to my stuns or murdered in my oldest daughter had cancer. Three kids was extremely devastating to me. And I bought the. Hearts by Greg Lauren and they certainly helped tremendously and help get my focus on the Lord and help other people who've gone through similar circumstances, and I'm just grateful for this Ministry will continue to.

"The family in the same way. The Devil has declared war on the family in our culture today. Satan hates the family. There is a full throated all out attack on their family and our nation today. Consider this when the family is strong, the Church's strong their churches strong. The Nation is strong, and when the family breaks down, the nation breaks down with it. Today, there are many people trying to figure out how to fix our country. The rising crime rate the OPIOID crisis. All of the people ended up being incarcerated, and there's all these ideas just legalize all the drugs, and let's just released people that are in prison serving time right now, and let's just try this and change that and we have the economic imbalances. You know, so, we here I'm telling you. Here's the thing nobody's talking about in is the root of everything. It's the breakdown of the family. You can take almost every social ill in America today, girls getting pregnant outside of wedlock people getting into drugs, people becoming alcoholics runaways. People who are attempting suicide? People who are ending up committing crimes, people who are joining gangs people who are incarcerated every one of those things, and there's many studies to back. This up can be directly traced back to the breakdown of the family, and specifically to the absence of fathers. So we need to do everything we can district in the family. Let's start with you. You need to do everything you can just strengthen your family. You can't save America, nor can I. You cannot save all the families in America, but you can start with your family. And, you can say this family is off limits to the devil. Saying you cannot have this family. Pastor Greg Laurie, we'll have the second half of his message in just a moment. Many listeners right or call us to share their stories of pain and loss, but also.

"Us by number to Moses effectively says, but I don't have all the answers for thirteen most protested. If I go to the people of Israel and tell them the God of your ancestors sent me to you, they won't believe me. They'll ask well. which are you talking about? What does this name? So? What should I tell them? God replies I am who I am. Just tell them I am has sent me to you. So Moses, basically says who am I god responds I am that I am. In other words Moses. It's not about you. It's about me. Sometimes afraid to share our faith because. We think a number lever might ask US good question. We don't have the answer to. We think why have to go out and prove the existence of God and they'll. Do anything of the kind. I think you need to just proclaim the Gospel in it will do its work because God's word is alive and powerful. Say we'll. Shall I quote the Bible to someone who doesn't believe in the Bible, we'll, of course you should, because just because they don't believe it doesn't take its power away. Use The word of God. Years ago. When I was starting our crusade menacingly I was in my mid thirties are hardly felt qualified to do such a thing. And I was in that house, a Billion Ruth Graham one afternoon and I said Ruth. I'm GONNA be doing more this preaching in stadiums and I don't feel prepared and I feel like I need to really study up an apologetic. She said Greg You just preach the Gospel. That's what billy is done all these years, and that's what you need to do and she was right. I. You you know more than you think you know. All these years of Personal Bible study all these years of sitting in church all this time. You've spent absorbing God's work. You know a lot and maybe the reason you don't know how much you know is because you've never had an opportunity to utilize it. But if you get into a setting, where maybe you're mentoring, someone or you're teaching a Home Bible study, or you're sharing. The Gospel one all of a sudden, the Holy Spirit activates those memory banks with information that you've preteen, and it comes out, and what you're saying is so good. You WanNa take notes on yourself. If God calls you to speak for him. You'll give you the words when you need them. No, we don't have all the answers, but he does..

"Said all right everybody stay home, and I understand that within minutes just minutes. The local supermarkets were overrun with people panic shopping. Should. We ever be afraid that we're going to run out of food and God's GonNa. Let us die No I don't think we do and I. Think you know I. Remember the words of Franklin Delano Roosevelt during World War Two, and he said to America. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself, and he had a good point there because you, your fear of what may happen can override what actually is happening and a lot of the problems we've had in the supermarkets is not with a lack of supply. It's rather because people are being a rational and basically they're hoarding so I I. I think that we need to just be reasonable about these things and you know we want to be prepared for the future, but we certainly don't want to worry about it. You know when Jesus addresses in the sermon on their own, he said look at the birds you know, and your father takes care of them. You know and I'm amazed by Burge. They get up every morning this morning. I was woken up by the little birds, chirping and and they're always singing, and yet they don't have the. Of God in their life like we do, a bird doesn't have the insurance to be turn a lifelike Christian has, but they wake up every morning just chirping away happily welcoming the new day I've never seen a bird popping the volume. But they they're you know. They just know that intuitively that everything's fine. You know there's an old poem that goes along these lines, said the Rahman to this sparrow friend I'd really like to know why these anxious human beings rush about in worry, So said the spirit to the Robin friend I think that it must be at. They have heavenly father such as cares for you and me. So conveys the idea that that God takes care of Nature Jesus is look at the look at the fires, nei-neither toil, nor spin I, but your father takes care of them Solomon and all of his glory was not arrayed like one of these and then here's Israel point he's building up to so seek first. The Kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. He did not say don't think about the things of life, but he said don't worry about these things. And he pointed to the birds. He pointed to the flowers as an illustration. Illustration, so we need to take that to heart so to help you to do that back. They deal with that text the more of from the sermon on the Mount by the way in my brand new book that I've just written called bringing Christ into your crisis, and basically it's a book that deals with fear anxiety, worry in the light of covid nineteen, and all the problems that it is brought on our culture and I want to give this to you for free. "Speaks is something he does for us, which means that he places the righteousness of Christ into your spiritual bank account. If you will one way of heard, the word justified translated is just as ZIP. It never had happened. So, when you're saved when you believe in Jesus, your sin is forgiven. You're sentenced forgotten, and it's like it never even took place. Isn't that amazing? That's what God has done for you. That's why the Bible says in Hebrews two. It's a great salvation. In fact, it asked that question. How can we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, so person? No matter what you're going to right now. No matter what hardship you're facing. I want you to know that you are saved. If you put your faith and Jesus Christ, that is not affected by covid nineteen. Your salvation is not affected by fluctuation in the stock market or changes in the economy so workout live out. Play out your own salvation. It's sort of like conductor with an incredible musical composition. Handed to him. It doesn't just play itself. He gets in front of the orchestra and he has each person play their part. The notes scales are on the peeper, but that people need to work out the parts, so we need to live out our own salvation. Pastor Greg Laurie full had the second half of his message in just a moment. Everybody Greg Laurie here inviting you to join me every weekend for what we call harvest at home. It's a church service. It's a worship service. It's a Bible study and it's wherever you want it to be in your home in your car. Sitting on a beach walking down the street, watching it on your phone wherever you are, you could take it with you and be minister to every weekend. Join US for harvest at home at harvest dot Org. Today Pastor Greg is presenting a message from his series in Philippians called Corentin Life, a study called. We can work it out. Let's continue now. Work out your own salvation, actually the phrasing that Paul uses here. Could be translated to work out as in a mine. Work got a mind I'm in. California right now years ago, we had what was called. The California gold, rush and people came from California from all around the world, because they thought they were just gold lane in the streets, and what gold there was readily available was soon gone, but there was a lot more gold up in them. Dr Hills as that was said, but you had to the mind, and you had to mind the gold, and hopefully you might find the mother load. I. Don't know if you realize how much God has done for you. It's found in the Bible but as you. You explore it and discover it. It's like you're funding the mother load of the promises of God in the Bible. That are all a part of salvation, so work out your own salvation. This is a great thing and I'm not in any way trying to imply that that's something you should worry about losing. When you put your faith in Jesus, you don't have to worry about losing your salvation. Because God has promised you Romans Eight sixteen. His spirit bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God and my favorite assurance versus first John five thirteen. These things we write to you that believe on the name of the son of God. May know that you have eternal life. You can know it. As a fat, because God has done it for you. But what about that question can a- Christian lose their salvation? We've seen people that make an initial profession of faith. It looks as though God is really changed her life, and then they just bail three weeks later two months later, and we say well well. was that person saved in our? They no longer saved. I think the better question is where they really save to begin with. I'm reminded of what Jesus said in what we call the parable of the Sower, he talked about seed that was thrown out, and it landed out there in the gravel, and it was not able to get route, and it's shot up and withered quickly. Then he explained it and. He said marked for sixteen. These people are the ones that hear the word of God. They respond with creating Suzy Azam, but there is such shallow soil of character that when the emotions were offered, difficulty arrives. There is nothing to show for it. Okay, so it's not just having an emotional experience. You have to work it out you up to live it out. You need to continue in this commitment. You've made for Christ effect. I've actually five litmus test that you can apply in your life to determine whether or not you really are saved to determine whether or not Christ really lives inside of you. Number One? If you are really saved, you will confess Jesus Christ as Lord. If you are really saved. You will confess Jesus Christ as Lord I John, four fifteen says he confesses that Jesus is the son of God God lives in him and he in God. So listen if you believe in Jesus, you need to let someone know. Jesus said if you will confess me before people I'll confess you before my father in the angels in. Heaven look for an opportunity to tell someone about your faith in Jesus Christ if you're a real believer, you will confessed that Christ is your Lord number two if you're really saved. You'll obey God's commands. If you're really saved, you'll obey God's commands for five three says this is love for God that you obey his commands in this commend or not burdensome for everyone that is born of God overcomes the world now. This is a problem for some. Oh, they obey the commands of God. They like the ignore the ones they don't like, but Jesus said. You are my disciples if you do. Do what so ever I commend you. He did not say you are my disciples. If you do whatsoever, you personally agree with. Are you are my disciples? If you do whatsoever, you find easy. No, he says you are my disciples. If you do whatsoever, I commend you. I had a personality once a pastor Greg. What do you do when you come to a passage in the scripture you don't agree with. Some responses will change your opinion because you're wrong in the Bible is right. We can't edit the Bible. According to how we want to live, we should edit how we live. According to what the Bible says and notice also that that verse I quoted a first John, five it says if you're really a believer, be commands, and they're not burdensome. They're not burdensome. Do you find God's word hard to live by? Say all men I don't like this and they don't like that listen. It's.

"Writes in Second Corinthians five eight I'm confident and willing rather to be absent from my body in the present with the Lord. It's better because all my questions will be answered. We all have questions for God, don't we? We like to ask God this. Why did you allow this? Why didn't you do that? I heard about one woman's question for God. In an ambitious moment, she invited a lot of people to a dinner party at our house and at the table she turned to her six year old daughter and said honey. Why don't you say the blessing? Little group said well Mommy. I don't know what to say and the MOM said well. Why don't you just say what you hear Mommy say? And the girl said Okay Mommy and then she prayed Lord. That I invite all these people to dinner and it didn't work out so well for mom, but we all have serious questions for God and one day they'll be answered because I corinthians thirteen cents right now. We don't see things clearly what I know is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely as God knows me so one day it's all going to be revealed to. To you, but most importantly heaven is better because I go to be with Christ. I want to depart and be with Christ Lemme. Loop back to the question. I asked in the beginning. What do you live for? If you would say for me to live, is money than for you to die as the leave it all behind if you would say for me to live as fame. Then for you to die is to be forgotten. If you would say for me to live his power for you to die as to lose at all, but if you would say for me to live is Christ in, you can say to die is gain. Only the Christian can say to live is Christ and to die is gain. We don't have to fear death. Because Jesus conquered death at the cross in the empty tomb at the Cross, he defeated sin at the Empty Tomb, he defeated death death died when Christ rose and Jesus says I am the resurrection and the life. He believes in me though he were dead yet. Shall he live in his over lives? And believes in me shall never die. Do, you believe in him. Say Well, yes, I believe, there is a god well I believe there was a god to. When I was a young man. And I knew God was up there somewhere. But I didn't know I. could ever relationship with him? That was a new thought for me. And I remember on my high school campus. It was a group of very outspoken people that we call the Jesus freaks and that wasn't a compliment. My friends warned me greg stay away from the Jesus freaks and I said the last thing ever see is Greg Laurie, becoming a Jesus, Freak famous last words, but I, beginning to watch these Christians, and I saw the joy and happiness. They had I mean it's one thing to be happy fifth period on Friday. These crazy people were happy. First period on Monday I thought. Why are they happy like that and I wanted to dismiss them as. As all nuts are crazy people, but the problem was I knew a few of them because I used to party with them and I saw had something I didn't have see at that time I was using drugs. My life was going the wrong direction. I was empty. I was searching and one day I sat a few feet away from a Little Bible study that we're having on the front lawn by high school campus, and these Christians these Jesus freaks were singing songs about God and as a singing I, try to novel thought on a new thought and I thought what if it's all true? What if they really have a relationship with God I quickly dismissed it. I return to it again. Yes, but what if it's true? What did they know the Lord? And then a guy got up to speak as they must Lonnie, he had long hair and a beard. He kind of looked Jesus frankly. This is back in the hippy days. And he made one statement I only remember this statement. He said more, but I remember he said Jesus said. You're for me or against me and I looked around at those Christians. I thought well, they're they're forum. And I'm not one of them. Is that me and I'm against God see I believe there was a god. I'd seen all the movies about Jesus I admired him, but I saw him as a historical figure that lived and died I, never thought of him in the here and now. And then that Guy Lonnie said. If you want Jesus to come into your life, get up and walk forward and pray and some kids walk forward and I hung my head down I. had here about anything in my eyes? Use your imagination used to have a great wave surfer wave now just beat braeside, but anyway I hung my head hearing in my eyes and I thought there's no way I could do that next thing I knew I was up there praying. I didn't plan on becoming a Christian that day. Let me assure you, but that was the day by life change. That was the day Christ came in my life. Listen to me. This is the day your life can change. This is the moment Christ can come into your life and let me come back to that statement. Jesus said your formula against me. You either are follower of and a believer in Jesus. Christ or you're opposed to him. Where do you Stan? Is Christ living inside of you right now? So. I don't know well, listen I think God. Almighty has taken residents in your heart. You'll know and if you don't know I would have to ask. Is He living in your heart? Maybe not. Let's say he's just a prayer away. Will, you allow me to show you the way? It's as simple as sprain. In saying God I know I'm a center and I. Ask you to forgive me of my sin in Jesus Christ will live inside of you. So I'M GONNA lead you in a simple prayer. Would you just pray this prayer with me and if you want Jesus Christ to come in the your life if you want him to forgive you of your sin. If you want to know that when you die, you will go to heaven. If you want your guilt in away. Pray this prayer after me right now, just pray these words Lord Jesus. I know that I am a center. But I know you are the savior. I ask you to forgive me of my sin. Come into my life. I turned from that send. Choose to follow you. From this moment forward. She's this name I pray..

You can't do what you used to do and one day you're going to be freed from the pain of the body you're in, and you're going to be liberated, and that's how policy describing it. I want to be freed from the shackles and go and be with the Lord, and finally he uses a word that could be described as untying a boat from its moorings. Now the way to put it is set sail set sail so when you believe in Jesus and that day comes through you to go to heaven. You're setting sail for the after life and when we lose a loved one. Were sad very sad because we miss them and we wish they had not left us. Maybe we were having enjoyable moment with family or friends, and we think oh I wish they could be with me right now. But you know as I said earlier, nobody in heaven, if given the choice would ever come back to Earth again, see it's not sad if you're setting sail for a better destination, let's say that you were getting on a rusty freighter destination. Siberia I'd be very sad as they wave to you on the dock, but let's say you were on a luxury cruise ship destination. Tahiti. I'd feel sorry for myself. Because I'm not on the ship with you going to a beautiful place one a believer dies. They're headed to a beautiful place. Spark greater than Earth. That's Greg at harvest dot org. Today Pastor Greg is presenting a message called. What do you live for point number? One is when you live for Christ. You'll think of others point, too. When you live for Christ, you're not afraid to die. Let's continue now. Bringing me to point number three. When you live for Christ unearth, you'll be with him in Heaven Look at Verse Twenty Three. Philippians one I want to be with Christ which is far better by the way this is a strong word in degree me translated far far better, not just better, but way better for my friends in Hawaii. Mo Betta Bra. It's way better. Heaven is so much better than earth. Why well because heaven is better because removing from attend to mention now this dates me of course, but do you remember that TV show Beverly Hillbillies Jed was moving from. Not a great place to a wonderful place in the Sitcom, but we're GONNA go from a broken body in aging body. A Sin Body? To a new body, God will ultimately give us in his presence, no more devil, no more temptation, no more sinful inclination. It's better, and it's better because it's immediate. It's better than when we go to him. And because to media, Paul writes, depart and be with Christ. Paldon say departing goat to a waiting room I hate waiting. You go to the doctor's office and you wait wire all of the magazines from a year ago. Come on, get new magazines already or how about waiting in an airport terminal? Just sit there and wait. Your flight is delayed any weight any weight well. That's what happens when a believer dies. You don't go to way, need room. You don't go to a place called purgatory because no place called purgatory actually exists one a believer dies. They go straight to heaven. The moment you take your last breath on earth, you take your next breath in heaven. This is the wonderful thing. Paul writes in Second Corinthians five eight I'm confident and willing rather to be absent from my body in the present with the Lord. It's better because all my questions will be answered. He believes in me though he were dead yet. Shall he live in his over lives? And believes in me shall never die. Do, you believe in him. Say Well, yes, I believe, there is a god well I believe there was a god to..

"Being freed from the chains I'm talking to somebody right now. That is very ill. You're a moment is. "I loved how he summed it up. He said it's not a black solution. It's not a white solution. It's not a blue solution. It's a god solution, and that's true and God is given us the solution to all of our problems right here in the scripture, and they're broken out for us in the Ten Commandments. Most people acknowledge that the ten commandments are important that they're true. Very few people know the Ten Commandments, a reason survey reveal that only fourteen percent of Americans could name the Ten Commandments. Let me ask you. Can you name the Ten Commandments Maybe you'll do that a little bit later with the folks that you know, but I'm going to read them for you. In just a moment, we know so many other things for instance by comparison, a quarter of Americans can name the seven ingredients in a big Matt. Nearly one out of four know the names of. Of all three stooges and one in three name, all the kids from the Brady Bunch. Really that's amazing, so we know that the big man cats to all be patties, but we don't know dowse or not steal, or thou bear false witness. You might say well Greg. It's hard to memorize them what we know other things. What are the names of the? The Beatles Will John Paul George. Ringo. Of course we can't memorize one commandment or two or three I, said just you can memorize all of these amendments, but we need to do more than memorize the commandments. We need to internalize the commandments because they're not obsolete. There are absolute I mean say that again. The comments are not obsolete their absolute, and if you keep these commandments, you will be a happy person, because someone says blessed or happy is the man that does not walk in the counsel of the ungodly, or stand in the way of centers, or sit in the seat of the scornful, but his delight is in the law of the Lord in in it. Does he meditate day and night? So if I keep these commandments, I'll be happy person. The commandments are like the bars of a prison to keep you inside. Like walls up protection to keep evil out of your life, they're given for your own good, so you can go from hopelessness to happiness, so let's look at what the commandments have to say to us. Exodus Chapter Twenty and I'm GonNa read quite a few verses with you, so I hope you'll read along here. We Are Commencement Number One exodus twenty verse to I, am the. Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt out of the House of Bondage, you shall have no other gods before me, commandment number to exodus twenty verse for you shall. Shall not make for yourself a carved image or any likeness of anything that's in heaven above the Earth beneath or in the water under the earth, nor show you bow down to them or serve them for I..
