"Discourtesy of Greg Papa on the 40 Niners Radio network. Three receivers left and kettle right, they throw over the middle, and it's caught by jobs. Kettle Hill race for a touchdown. 10 5 touchdown, San friend Ciccio. Forthem to cattle over the meadow. When you look back at that game, three things stand out. The start for the 40 Niners. Kyle Shanahan's coaching And then also just the dominance of the best tight ends in football and Greg Kill When I look at it from a ram side of things, Yeah, they're well coached by Sean McVeigh. However. In close games of Jared Golf, or You're trailing with Jared Goff. He doesn't get you back in the game. He doesn't go into the game up against what is a good opponent and San Francisco. Yes, they're banged up, but they're still good opponent. They could have been two and four after this one. Now they're three and three and their season saved, so got a tough Gotland still got a tough stretch. We'll see if they could pull out of it and get to the playoffs. I'm still not optimistic about it, but they showed us a lot yesterday on the other side, Jared Goff. The Rams are foreign to. Yeah, the Rams will still make the playoffs, you would think, But Goff is just not an elite quarterback. He isn't And to see what he did yesterday. He was off the mark with so many of those footballs, and they were momentum killers when they were getting close and trying to go back into the game, and he threw a terrible interception as well. So that's no huddle offense little bit wacky today because we had some of the audio Difficulties, but we survived and we advance here. It's like the tournament on the sack Guilt show and you know what? I basically kind of compare myself to Ah VCU or Loyola Chicago, the team that there's not Really having greatness expected out of them and out of nowhere, even like a George Mason in the Jim Larranaga days where they find a way to just get the job done, or Baylor or a butler. Excuse me the first time they got to the national championship game where they lost to Duke in those back to back years, they lost a Duke and they lost a Yukon. You remember it was Jon Scheyer. You remember that game? Chef Jon Scheyer had that half court shot Jim Nansen. I think it's Clark Kellogg. Full onions. Bill Raftery, Sitting courtside thought it was going in, and it goes in and out. Gordon Hayward Sorry. Jon Scheyer was the Duke guard who is now the assistant coach on Duke, but Gordon Hayward shot the ball. And John Shy. I remember him jumping up and down afterwards because he couldn't believe it because even he thought it was going in. So there you go. That's like May I'm the Cinderella story that just keeps finding a way to get jobs in this business at a young age and even we get hit with some adversity. We find the way to muscle through, but then we're going to lose in the championship game. All right quickly. I said You don't believe that You don't agree with that assessment while we lose in the championship game. I'll get that. How do you win the championship game? In this business? You thrive. You go through adversity you looked you looked, You know, trials and tribulation in the eye. And you say it's the last man standing or the last woman standing in that you, Oka. That's good. That's why you're a teacher. You're good motivational speaker as well. Dave Shepard, I'll tell you we're performing much, but in the Dallas Cowboys Power's down 21 to nothing. 21 to nothing. Yeah, I think they missed that. Prescott. How many idiots in the off season? They don't. Then they could take over the job for Dag Prescott. How? Come on. I thought the Cowboys were gonna win tonight. And those would be a high scoring affair with neither defenses could stop anyone. And then Andy Dalton had the ball last and win the game by seven points. How many people that did I hear this offseason? Oh, yeah. Tax would lose his job to Andy Dalton was like, huh? Really like that, to me is not a great quarterback, but he's a very good quarterback. I bet you have. Doc is on the field in this game, which ESPN must be subset. Yes, the Cowboys. They'll do a mega number. You have Dad, Kyla Murray and said you get Kyla Murray. Andy Dalton. Yeah, Yea. And now this game's a blowout. You better score here. Ifyou're Dallas, If you don't Lee could get ugly very quickly. Let me give you an update on the poll question if it's not Seattle who represents the NFC in the Super Bowl. 36.8% say the box 34.2% say the Packers 21.9% say other and then 7% say the saints I'll give you my answer on the other side will also bring the closing bell to end the show out in style. First up.

"With this situation amber Oakland with these players with these expectations with this roster does into me fit a first time head coach because if you want to look at the San Antonio coaching tree another person there and someone tweeted me this idea would be Tim Duncan who the other day when he coached replacing Greg Papa tried to downplay the whole thing I don't think Kim told it would be the perfect candidate for this job the idea of a first time head coach having to deal with what will be more media scrutiny I know that may sound tough to believe fake media scrutiny on the nets I think things are gonna be different next year the nets are treated and look I say this all the time the nets are treated in such a different way then the next and we know why because there's a lack of passion for the nets so when the nets do something stupid very few people call them out on it I do if I think it's stupid obviously I'm a Die Hard fan why would not the way they wouldn't talk about injuries the way they wouldn't discuss it the way Sean marks wouldn't speak to the media for months I had a big problem with that I told Sean marks that but in New York Aston educators I do believe and I could be wrong that next year with Kevin Durant and Kyra Irving the media scrutiny not just from me but from everyone else around here in this town it's gonna be a little bit different and so that is a tough job that is a very very tough job but I'm a fair person and so what I think makes the most sense for everybody really just such a fair deal I'm a negotiator I want to make a fair deal here's the fair deal are you ready Becky Hammon gets elevated to be the next head coach of the San Antonio Spurs and Gregg Popovich gets another crack at winning an NBA championship as the next head coach of the Brooklyn nets top will intimidate the media don't be afraid to ask any tough question Kevin Durant Kyra Irving all have to respect them and the body shop we will try that is a completely fair deal pop to Brooklyn Becky promoted in San Antonio seems perfect Evan Roberts here on a Saturday until Yankee spring training baseball progressive presents inspiration to help you do insurance.

"This is after hours with Amy Lawrence Greg Papa on the Niners radio network but a long time since we've seen the bay area hosts playoff football a ends earlier in the week I had a chance to communicate with Paul Allen on the Vikings radio network he's got so much enthusiasm and excitement as all of these guys do they're just so many amazing voices on the NFL play by play side of things and so I looking forward to this game too because we get this resembles tradition with the Niners it's a completely overhauled French I think about what they've gone through since the last time they were in the playoffs news calling capric for heaven sakes that was the quarterback that tells you how far back we're talking about in a Super Bowl in which the lights went out N. dot we were just starting CBS sports radio and and now you've got a couple shooting him in charge with the John Lynch and all the adversity they went through in setting up their system and finding a quarterback and then having to remake the defense and how good the defense has been this year and they've gone through a bunch of injuries on the office is out of the ball that don't have to do with the quarterback and yet they have an identity smash mouth football certainly they they want to set the tone on defense but they also want to run the ball it's amazing right the number of teams remaining in the playoffs who are run first offenses which I appreciate and yet in his first full year as a starter Jimmy Karabagh low has has gotten we're just a smarter because he's not a of a rookie but he has he's gotten smarter in making decisions in the moment and even when he's at games with multiple turnovers he's found a way to put that behind him and to focus on what's in front of him and because of that there are multiple fourth quarter rallies in late game comeback and his teammates have said over and over and over again this is our leader this is the guy in whom we trust and and how she had a hand as someone who is from the office of side of the ball remember he worked with Kirk cousins in DC when his dad was the head coach there then of course went through Matt Ryan the falcons to their Super Bowl and and that's how we got this job I now working with Jimmy garage below he sees a lot of a lot from quarterback for a lot of offenses and he's watching this progression with his own QB I think is a very good leader because he's himself and people respect I place Jimmy doesn't change whether he's doing really good or really bad I mean or other has a bad they're good day he's going to treat everyone the same is always the same guy the same friend the same teammate he works the same regardless that attitude that personality as part of its natural but some of it's also learned learned about thing even keel in the moment not panicking not freaking out even though they say that I think back to last weekend with that moment where Josh I wanted just scrambled and he picked up the first down and then inexplicably just throw the ball up in the air behind him what he just looked like he freaked out in the mold and he just lost his head for a second and and certainly young quarterbacks I have that propensity every now and then it wasn't it wasn't something that lost the game for them so it's funny to laugh about now well do we grapple stays even keel so some of that is his personality but some of that also learned when I first started in this business there were things that would happen because of live radio maybe I'm a quick bit malfunction or I would mess up or a guest wasn't a wasn't ready when he said he was gonna be ready and so I would get flustered over things that now just don't phase me a caller would call up and say something rude I mean I just don't those type of things don't they don't affect me anymore because I've done this for so long that tell you just kind of know how to roll with the punches so some of it's learned behavior but part of it is his personality and being poised in the moment and dot recognizing that you're not done until the very last second takes off the clock and I was a part of that comes from being with go Bella check in with Tom Brady Brady is a master at that I mean he's even emotional guy but he recognizes that there's always another opportunity until those seconds are gone and not to not losing your cool not losing your head in those pressure packed moments is the incredible skill and certainly necessary if you're going to be the leader of the team that's going to challenge for a Superbowl it's after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS sports radio cal state has also spoken earlier in the week about Kirk cousins and how he has developed as a quarterback it is making great decisions then and I kind of seeing now all of a the years that he spent in DC culminating with what has been a fantastic two years in Minnesota no I know they didn't make the playoffs last year and the offense took a lot of criticism but if you look at Kirk's numbers last year they were actually really good the office of why was hideous and they did not have a consistent running game but that is all changed now and they are getting better at playing on the road I mean the way that they performed both often simply in defense of Lee in the super dome last weekend it was incredible and that kind of experience gives you a world of confidence land on the road all year long handling noise I mean it's it's going to be the same this week so you go back to the same things you've you've lean down for me here the season last week my whole career of of what you gotta do to handle noise and handle on it you know it adverse environment do you guys remember the start of the game between the Vikings and the faith I'm sure I do not remember what network is all it was on was that the that was the last game of last weekend right to would been NBC I thank because I think box with the early game was on fox anyway does really matter there was a thought I was trying to give credit to the sideline reporter who did the who did the story but there there was this us a report before they even kicked off that the Vikings had been going through all kinds of a crazy exercises to get used to the noise inside the Superdome and up but they were doing silent snap Calvin all and they were at the line during practice throughout the week we're having her cousins whispered the snap count so that nobody could hear it anyway and then immediately all what was the second or third play the game I'm Feelin fumbles and you're like well what's the people who cares about that county beginning on the football but obviously it's not a closed environment at Levi's stadium for the noise is different but still he's right at the hostel apartment the Vikings are five and four on the road if you include the saints win last week was quick talk today who's in Youngstown Ohio welcome to after hours yeah good morning Mary Anne you know what gets me pumped up in the morning here in that it's after hours lets you need more the voice god yeah he's pretty amazing they are all on your first so I want to wish you a very awesome twenty twenty and your crew love listening to your show would not miss it Monday through Friday on my way to work you're the only one I want to listen to that's when we get to this point the season I always say yama brown's family wise to still stand my wife says I'm not watching football now my teens not in and I'm like you're you're crazy this is the time of year to see some incredible football and it started last week and and what I want to ask you is at this point season maybe a week early on this but I think it comes down a lot too you know you're seeing a lot of great teams that are that that that punch that can work her way to the Superbowl but who can is so important employee calling in and helping their team gets through rough times with play good play call in and specific times so who do you think's going forward is got the mo Jo as a coach in in these games that you feel would push it seem always to the Superbowl are you the current coaches or players who you think will develop into coaches no no your current coach is right now yeah you're asking me which one I think has the mo Jo to be a champion the push forward user strategy could coaching to get their their team to the Superbowl well I mean they're all good coaches or they they wouldn't be to this level now I I think there is something to be said for experience and I'm interested to see how Matt Loeffler does in his first ever playoff game is the head coach Mike Zimmer has a ton of experience and there's added incentive here in that they are playing for jobs to be there was talk that he it was going to get fired his staff was gonna get fired if they didn't win that playoff game in New Orleans or make some kind of run I I don't know if you're going with experience though I don't know how much farther you need to look at and then John Harbaugh I mean or eighty read either one but John Harbaugh Super Bowl winning coach and he come from The Andy Reid tree but I mean what we're talking about a guy who is seen and done everything on the football field and has the pedigree to prove it so I guess we're talking specifically coaches than probably Harbaugh's the one I point to yeah I thought you know I don't know I don't know how if it means Pete Carroll same thing so now there are some Superbowl winning coaches coaches have also been in situations where they made the wrong call and it's come back to bite them and those those experiences don't go away either but they also make you a better coach yeah I'd that so I agree with you with Paul Paul and Baltimore and the game outlook most for to see in this weekend probably is that can city game and Houston yeah it's going to be pretty amazing they're all going to be awesome I just know that they have a a lot to live up to after last week with all four games separated by a single score and well Hey you have a great day Amy happy new year are you happy new year to you Dave good to talk to you a five five two one two four two two seven a "Greg Papa with you Dave Samuel in his NFL debut was started late sixties snaps in the game conversely Dante pedis only two steps in the entire game so we'll pick up our conversation with forty nine articles files chanting and he was asked about Dante Pattison playing only two snaps last week in Tampa a little bit of a setback with his injury he got to practice and last weekend what we do is going to be limited in the game but we definitely plan on playing a more the two places also but I was disappointed with after the games that use a coaching staff in the get a bit more I was kind of how the game played out but that definitely wasn't a plan gone and you'll see a lot more this week you got a full healthy week you had me on his best weeks and we need you know dot is one of our better players I know he's had some ups and downs throughout this offseason but Dante is we believe in Dr and even though it had some setbacks account on the come around and he's been put in the work in practice and he's been getting better each day getting back to a little bit more willing laptop last year and once he does that I know it's only gonna get better SO gotta bunch young receivers out there the thing that I'm excited about our group this I really do believe ranches around our building yeah we got to get a couple guys back from injury which in that her to try to tailor and we're gonna get all the guys who are planned we just got to keep them the better they have the ability to get better and order the reps to get better too so we're gonna go with that and but I know it's not our time this year before you get a ball club that's the best I've seen a forty Niners defensive line looks since the the Smith brothers who run around the back field a few years ago mages pre is good it was pressure man it was a constant but it was a you know they if they when they needed to pass and you guys needed pressure me both again at two more sexy just got going a little too fast and winced as our guide to bring down you do give out for their desert ship and he was pushing the pocket I mean obviously it's not all about sex about getting a guy to throw before you want to do it seem like two of those three interceptions were a direct result of pressure and if one Alexander could hold on to that one that was a result of pressure is just the the watching is like okay that did that this is gonna be pretty good yeah that's. idea you know we know we needed it you know everyone knows about the record that we the the horrible record that we're part of last year with only two interceptions of the year and I I do think we have some guys in the secondary who can catch you but we we we get effect at quarterback mora well we've invested in this decline the last couple years or the two years we've been here I know is a faster than before we got here also but we still are missing those that you guys all those imperative gonna cheer three that we had to do it you know John of the staff at the wall looked hard into it and be able to get the Ford the fact of just been lucky to have a guy like boasts and the traffic bailable. well that does give you a chance so I still think we got a ways to go by no means do we always good as we can last up there you know I know the defense played well but they they can also play better the listings we still can step up and do I still think we get out to the core back more than we did and I hope you guys just gonna get better worse you're not gonna stay the same we need to get better this way you're going to think it's a team here with a first year head coach and surprisingly he hired a first time offense of coordinator and a first time defensive coordinator I know defensively was not agree to the Bengals defensive to simply year ago but just looking at those numbers from Rick week one any Seattle's got this powerful run game and they held them to two point nine yards per carry what is what is their defense looking like on film I'm to get you know actions of front but it's more than that if they're if they're Holden Seattle down. yeah they can they have some good players and criminal and you know Dunlap they've always been there and you know they were really good players a long time ago I have a plate again phone stay for about four years and also open that they would look for years older and they don't. they look they could they look the exact same as I remember last time there some older players so that doesn't surprise me with other plant and then you look at that whole game and Cincinnati were the better team that's out there of course it for them they want but they really took it to Seattle on both sides of the ball they got they got some players on both sides and they're very well coached that played very hard and it's a good scheme so I know we got our work cut out for us and I know they're much better team than.

"Hi Greg Papa Tim Ryan back with you and Tampa and again that the forty niner defense we were talking earlier you know it's very early in the year but at some point you wanna you wanna know who you are and what your identity is going to be I could sense this of the pre season what I saw practicing the other day the identity of this team is that pass rush would fifty fives on one and ninety sevens on the other ninety nine and ninety water in the middle well we're seeing the dog and all those guys in terms of the attitude the mentality that they're going to refuse to lose they're going to get after they're gonna stop on the gas pedal from snap deal with so a big part of that is good Serik in the mindset that he's got these guys played with all the defense of white that started back in TA is much as thrilling as they do in their great drills that really simulate football players have been to a lot of practices were the fundamental the individual purrs ago man you know they're doing the same old stuff they got so many drills that simulate a football play they last for five seconds the P. line is in tremendous shape and they've got the mindset to get after they're very very deep you think of folks is going to be a really good one man and he had a sack today second half he coulda had a couple of more were you just he stumbled a little bit that happens with young players were trying to get to the quarterback and have not had a lot of sex in pro football for you don't like wow I'm here and you start to stumble Dee Ford is a monster he turned to his get off all that was advertised with that last pic six which ended up being the game decided by a callow Witherspoon that all started with the get off beating the offense of linemen off the snap might be forty just gave it to the more dots day Ford had one.

"This is Greg Papa your voice on forty Niners for in line tended to on KNBR six in San Francisco okay as a an agent to send Matteo sit down with the owner try to work it out but because it can't work it out I'll I'll let you question if it if it's a medical staff thing and I'm sitting down to help train or head doctor he has ownership or management and Williams as a small player on my team and offered to tackle the medical staff losing its if it comes down to who my keeping on keeping a player and I'm gonna get a new guy who had trainer I'm gonna get you don't insult in that chip that's twice as well but that's a different situation that I know the perfect example of players gonna win in my eyes as ownership lectures I get it I get it and then and and the player in town often wins all the time I mean that says a lot of money well right performing correct I mean you you look at it and and we're talking having this conversation if you're just joining us here on this Thursday morning pet played off the Steve Kerr comments that he died on the warriors insider podcast in and commenting to the Anthony Davis demand out of New Orleans saying that is not necessarily good for the league and that you know it isn't good bad you know it's created situation now a Los Angeles Times where you know the Lakers certainly feel a lot better about themselves with lebron James and Anthony Davis than they did before even after they feel burned by everything surrounding Kawhi Leonard for Steve Kerr though I mean he mentions the Anthony Davis scenario and he mentioned that is often a a players coach in defending the players I don't think just as he did and as we've talked about this morning I I don't think you could look at you can look at that particular situation say okay that one bothers me but they'll be many examples or other examples of players that want to get themselves out of the situation for a number of different reasons and they have every reason why to get themselves out of a situation I mean at the Davis got about a New Orleans because he did not believe he was gonna be able when dad in Orleans it was tired of wasting time years off of his career waiting on the pelicans to get good correct right yeah I mean you were right at the end of the day the yes but it didn't he was just he was unhappy which lead to let leads to one happiness so we're on the stand yeah that's why he won we we don't know if there was more to it that's the thing I think sometimes the media runs with things and lets you hear a player say that I mean I I I'm you know I'm the sources to be go so far but I want to hear from the player and but if the player to want to share that that's his private business we don't know what else he might just not lot like being down and then beautiful the walls who knows I mean the it could be more to that I'm I'm sure that's the case that Davis wanted to win but I would not want to ask you the card were you surprised we can of Davis that he mentioned by name you were supposed you know why I think I think progress I think Steve cars a progressive head coach right that player coach to players coach that does not mind talking about difficult issues in the NBA or say politically or what's going on in the world I mean Steve Kerr is been a guy that's kind of been a reporter's best friend right now maybe he really has he's talked about anything and everything yeah right correct so no it didn't it it didn't surprise me they mention after he gave I think you have to be careful like a bomb at the Davis honorable ticked off because I'm I'm I'm not a sin on public I'm not for his he's not my coach I don't play with him or for him he'll watch him speak my name out of his mouth I'm not a news organization that's our players a look at that trust me Davis is saying that he will say but I think it's right to mention of the player in my opinion I don't think that's right and I was surprised I was to this woman thing moves also this was done in a podcast and this is what happened you were you were out last week in the Jim Harbaugh had to come to see that was in a podcast so most of the hall ball was saying and like I said he when injured I was sitting here as a podcast I could tell you like a lot of new podcast also you understand sometimes when you have a guest in a podcast it's very intimate so it's like they they can say things they wouldn't normally say on broadcast or terrestrial or satellite radio TV because it feels very intimate because it's just it's it's not live it's taped yada yada C. for yeah you know what so it sometimes people do say things in a podcast you're kind of armor down a little correct right correct that's what yeah I mean now it was stuff with horrible we could go is intriguing the stuff certainly the the warriors insider podcasts was a tree yes with Steve Kerr when I hear from you at eight five five two one two four C. B. S. eight five five two one two four two two seven were you surprised with Steve Kerr I to say what he had to say about it is that right no that's just Davis but is it bad for the league which players are forcing their way out of particular cities in the NBA even with years left on their contract eight five five two one two four two two seven if you have something we're quick if you if you were in a job and you don't want to be there no more you give your work do you feel you have to stay there the still if you put yourself in some places with a contract and you want to be there no more you feel you have to state eight five five two.

"Welcome back to the Stanford pre game show about thirty minutes from kickoff between Stanford and USC, and I have the honor of being joined by the great Greg Papa and looking around honor grade, Scott reasons here come on mine Scotty seat. I gotta get up here. Greg Papa getting interviewed by a former player. This hasn't happened very often. How many times have I interviewed you about the great any luck? We have we have a lot in common and our respect for the great AL twelve. Yes. Greg. It's been awhile since you've been here. You're just talking about that. And Stanford has had a pretty remarkable run people associated with the program we have called this the golden age of Stanford football unprecedented success consistently in the top twenty five bowl game after ballgame. Eight in a row. Wow. What are your impressions of this team each each year is unique and different Bryce love coming back. I think the offense is loaded, but you've had a chance to break down the tape. But I think you do a better job than almost anybody else as a play by play guy, understanding schemes and personnel. What's your take on the Stanford offense as you've had a chance to look at it? Well, one thing I like about David Shaw, and I knew him years ago when he worked for the raiders and Jon Gruden hired him as a quality control guy. He was really Shaw son is that he really coaches the program here like an NFL team. And the way you guys run the ball was such a fisticuffs. And I was in Oklahoma last week watching collar Murray and Lincoln Riley. He's bringing more of the spread into a Todd. But they still run the ball. They still pull guards they still run power. But when I watched Stanford, and I don't have a real feel for the team yet because you played one game and San Diego State really loaded the box to take the run away. But I what I see is. NFL concepts and running the football that you really don't see in college football. For instance, USC doesn't have a true fullback on their roster. They've got a linebacker. They can use as a full. You guys always got usually a to back set you pull guards and you run power. So that that is to me the staple even going back to win. Jim Harbaugh was here and the three tight ends. I mean, just the way they you guys run offense of football is so much like I'm used to seeing in the NFL, which is getting very rare in college football. And we told the story Daniel Marx who had been the starting fullback here. The last three seasons. Probably was the lead blocker on about thirty five hundred yards. Wow. Kill back run. So you're right Stanford does have a different approach. USC new quarterback and evaluate JT Daniels in his first week where you know, a lot of hype. A lot of information about this young man who was held back in eighth grade graduated from mater dei hundred and fifty plus touchdowns in three years at silly a top programme in the country. How would you evaluate his performance? I think he'll be tested more than he ever has in his career. What was your take on him in week one? He's only kid. It's his first true freshman second one in the history of the program to Matt Barkley saw Maccabi harsh on them. I I don't I don't analyze college players. Like, I do the NFL feel free to bash. You see, I guess I should here. It's just hard to because they're just kids. He really should be a senior even though he did go to the say the eighth grade twice. He's eighteen and a half years old. I thought he was just okay, I was expecting more from him. I actually was more impressed with your quarterback. And you're know quarterbacking just throwing the ball mechanics. I thought I thought Caja was really as far as throwing the football was really on point as far as mechanically. She's just a kid. I you know, I was solar hammered were Sam darnold. Andrew luck. Is by far the most sophisticated college quarterback I've ever seen the most NFL ready quarterback. And I I would venture to guess that, you know, at least in the last twenty years post. John Elway I would pick. Sam darnold. So he's not to me Sam darnold. He doesn't have Sam darnold movement skill. He is going to be challenged tonight. And I think you're you're corners coming back tonight holder, which will make it more difficult for him. Obviously the kid that he played high school football saying Brown. He went to. You know, obviously often he didn't seem like he had a great rapport with the guys and some of them were hurt going back to the off season. So I you know, he's just a kid. I think it's going to be hard for him tonight to be honest with you, I think he got away with one fumble that was borderline last week going on the road playing a school like this so early in the year, I think he would probably like to have this game October November December some time. So I know I he's he's going to be a good player. Obviously you don't start at USC as a true freshman. If you're not a good player, but I'm not so sure Stanford does not have the better quarterback in the game tonight. What a great point on jayjay Costello mechanically. I thought, you know, watching the tape again this week his ability to feel the rush adjust to it subtly step up in the pocket, but keep his eyes in his shoulders and his balance and the ability throw it down the field and not look to rush. I thought that was the one thing he did better than anything else a week ago, and he is just a pure pasture when you're watches pullback in the elbow. I mean, if you had a checkbook throwing motion, it would be that. But I want to see what she does with with JJ tonight. They got some NFL cornerback. I thank I don't know if they're quite have the size to go up at high point the ball. He does. And then you run into the problem because they run a lot of cover one. What do they do with Bryce love? So I'm excited it I've done many Stanford games. Not that recently. I guess the last time was ninety six which is twenty two years ago. Whatever it is. Now, you you in that game which game wasn't Utah was the opener the season. But I was on the side. We gotta get the tape at a young. I think. I gave it a year was now with Bill Walsh, though. Troy was no I never doing games here with coach Walsh. And he was unbelievable because he knew I saw you know, he was still around the program a lot. He would just slam the table and get mad at the moment. The ball was snapped. He had a pretty unique insight and now as you watch the college game in general the Pac twelve has been. Less than impressive. Today, but they covered. I could not believe what was the final score. They actually seven nothing forty nine twenty one. Spread thirty one. There you go. There you go is that amazing interesting conference? So and a lot of new coaches a lot of new quarterbacks anything stand out to you in week one from the conference. I just want to see how Herm does too. I know he was my coach he was my coach in New York for a couple of a unique higher. I mean, he was he was an interesting game manager. I would put it that way the way he coached the football team in the NFL was rushed the way he was on TV. You know, he's a motivator. He's a hardworking guy, but he wasn't that into the game management. But I think going back at this level kind of being a CEO over the program. Let the other coaches coach, and he's I think he's going to be a dynamic recruiter. Could he get their program up? We shall see. But he's I think they haven't Herm Edwards. Herm Edwards who's never coached head coach in college football, come back into the conference is fascinating. I think on flipside Kevin someone a lot of expectations. They're Zona not so much with their they hit a bad one today. They did not covered. No two in Tucson in a big win for Arizona state week one. So it will be a fascinating conference. Greg excited to see you. I'm excited to be here. I'm gonna have fun. I'm gonna go back up to the very tippy top of. I do I do, and it should be to have a great view of this near sideline. But. Well, I'm sure you'll still have a great call and it's been fascinating decade in this matchup looking forward. What what's your what's your deal? But I'd love to see another result. Like what your deals fifty five? That was going for two with forty eight points wasn't all timer. The great. Greg Papa joining us here for the pre-game. We'll be back with Scott sits down with head coach David Shaw..

"Shaffer for the twenty two year, old defenseman with potential. And William. Carlson your salary cap update their thirteen point one million in cap space now William, Carlson's probably gonna take up about half of that, five, six seven million somewhere in that I'd, say six at least six, yeah so William Carlson. Dixon path of that shape Theodore's probably going to be between one. And. Two million somewhere in that range so you're not a cap space very quickly there it just makes it seem more and more likely Eric Carlson thing is gonna happen yeah not going to, happen? Unless unless you're gonna have to clear. Some space which again they. Can, clear they can add. Another five million dollars with the long-term iron David, Clarkson you, they could get, Bobby Ryan and just simply by him, out and. That spreads his cap space half this cap. Hit excuse me out over multiple years but they'd have to be more creative than just Yep we got twenty million in caps base, bring it all on, bass spent most of it. Now All right Raiders story. For you Greg Papa yes fired is the, play by play guy Brent Musburger coming on raiders, made it official today Burger was coming on Greg. Papa was fired Greg Papa has his own radio show on ninety five point seven in the bay area today was his first show sense being fired and. Replaced by Brent Musburger so we had a lot to say about the athletic has the, full transcript of it silver and black pride dot com has a good breakdown. Of what he said but what I found the most interesting is what Greg. Papa blamed it on did you see what he blamed it on How He didn't really get along with Mr.. Davis, yeah he and Mark him in Al, Davis I, guess had a relationship heights apparently and not so with the. Sun so back in two thousand, fifteen Mark Davis interviewed Mike Shanahan for the head coaching. Job apparently Davis hated Mike. Shanahan and when that news came, out Greg Papa on his radio, show which is unrelated to the raiders was very critical of Mark Davis giving an interview to somebody that his father needed so. Much and apparently this pissed off Mark Davis to the point where you know great Papa called him to try to be, like, yo? Why why are you mad at me for this to try to talk about it with, them and Mark Davis hung up on him eventually and to the point where this happened in two thousand, fifteen they were never friendly towards each. Other, again MRs what Greg Papa said whenever we were around each other standing right next to each other, many many times I reached out to him to say hi he, ignored me Not, not, a good sign Twenty thousand three years ago it is never. Talk. To each, other ever, again it's like I guess what do? You make of all that I just boggles my mind that it took this. Long that's the thing to me that kind of. Sticks out, it's like, I find it hard to believe that If Mark Davis was truly that pissed about it. But he didn't fire him right away yeah yeah It just doesn't. Feel, like Yeah exactly yeah it just doesn't feel like something that would take three years, for them. To be like all right we're firing you because three years ago you were critical of it just doesn't. Make a lot of, sense so, that to. Me jumped out it's it it is one. Side of the story too, it's? Not like Mark Davis right. Has said anything about this so we don't know if this is wholly accurate to If it is true Mark, Davis seems extremely petty extremely just extremely petty about the whole. Thing either that or he's really good..

They, will do that now if, you, get boogie, cousins even let's say fifty to seventy five percent of what he was, that is extremely frightening thought. Even Seventy-five percent boogie cousins is fantastic especially in the postseason, I get. You but seventy five percent coming off an. Achilles I think that's a lot to ask for as well so we don't know exactly what kind of player we're going to get with the Marcus. Camby, are. Is the number, so yeah we're going to be talking with karnal attornal coming up in just a couple of minutes. And then at the end of the hour we're gonna talk to. Matt maiocco I do want to at some point get to the Mark Davis statement, he made about letting. Greg, Papa Gautam floors was let, go as well, so the entire broadcast for the raiders games going to be very interesting, next year As a raider fan and talking to raider fans that away Cambier isn't. It Mark, is Mark making it a little bit difficult for you to root for this team as. They have their last little bit here in, the bay area is making it. Difficult to be a raider fan because, I think he is for me. Anyways as much as I do bleed that team and I love the. Raiders since I was a child when they came back in the mid ninety s I mean What do you want me to? Do Mark you're giving away home game so they can go play across the water. In London I mean just the way that you've you've acted in Las Vegas Why why why can't you go get? A guy that's yours why do you have to go get, Brent Musburger a name if you wanted to get rid of Papa which is going to irritate the fan base because irradiates me and Flora's why can't you bring, on a guy and go through tapes of play by play broadcasts then have your guy instead of Musburger who I don't even? Know has has he ever. Even done in a on the radio and I was really. Frustrating it's, we're going to be really frustrated root for this team This year I'm going to of course but I? Just want to know raider fans away can't? Be are is he may get difficult he's not make I, don't think he's making it easy for me to go out and buy my ticket to a raider game it really is not I mean again the way that, he acts when he's in Vegas and the what what he says was in Vegas we've waited so this is so great this? Is this is slap in. The face tussin the East Bay I that's how I feel Roll around you. Stupid, bubble bubble top van Got it drives me crazy let's go to a nightgown Oakland before we get to Connor What a night now you can call me dragon Hey dragon how are you man Wasn't a Nighthawk stepbrothers. Who's, Nighthawk, was Nighthawk and? Jade It's night. Out okay yes, no, your night out yes go ahead I'm night Al hey, but I on the on. The raiders, and the whole Greg Papa in that, deal you know this is just another club by them but anyway The reason, I, called is to tell all athletes that are you know, thinking about dating a porn. Star during, all star week when the dentist week, in sports Think again man you don't think, we would, be talking about this if it was I don't know the middle of the NFL DS No You do it during, the, hey, Jimmy g. when the warriors are in the, finals take her, out Kostanic won't be you know top. "The radio play by play voice for the raiders starting this season. And Musburger who seventy nine years old and the raiders of the time declined comment. And it was because as Gil reference in his report, great Papa who we know Greg Papa cracks. I mean, come on, he has a famous touchdown call and everyone was wondering for a few days. Well, what about Greg? And according to Gill, he might. He might not yet know of the switch at the time of this reporting, but the raiders released a statement, Thursday, thanking Greg Papa for his two decades of work behind the mic, but it's Brent time now baby when you become an institution as Papua. Everybody bite into Musburger sometimes become a little too invested, right? And he was close with Al Davis and some of the statements he was making some of the opinions he had were so strong that if I was Mark Davis, I would have had issues with him too. And this happens all the time to people who are institutions, but but Musburger is an institution to and not at the peak of his career right now. And they met, you know, she mentioned Mark Davis mentioned, you know that Greg Papa become an institution for two decades. Everyone will think of him. You know, this is. It's not going to be like a long-term higher Musburger made some some shaky shaky comments not just about AJ McCarron's future wife, but he said some questionable things on Twitter over the last couple of saying that it's an odd one is a hashtag gradual decline. I don't know about graduate. The raiders have done some weird stuff this off season, but west west nail that this is they're moving Vegas and they're not bringing Greg Papa with them, and it has to do with being in the final chapter of a stand, he called l. Davis a second father to him, and he backed everything l. Davidson and win with Al Davis fired Mike Shanahan. And when when Mark Davis before hiring the previous coach wanted to bring in Mike Shanahan as a candidate, Greg, Papa flamed him on the radio in. Typically your team play by play guy is a little bit more PR oriented. You don't go flaming ownerships sometimes when you're so invested, you forget that you're not the owner, the owners, the it is. It is a great preview though of. How different this Vegas raters thing is going to be because I would assume one of the big reasons they hired Musburger is he is part owner in a loss Vegas sports and information network. Like he has started essentially a gambling network. And he got out in front of it a couple years ago and it's probably like a good investment and the raiders I think with this higher there tacitly getting ahead of that. And I think they're gonna wanna be the team at the forefront of gambling on football. It seemed like also a part owner and that organization Giardi owner Musburger when he helped Brent doesn't listen to this because I do want to go work there in a few. When I lose this podcast though Musburger when he got a cut loose by CBS. And then you heard the took a job like writing a gambling com Vegas. It seemed like like maybe Brent Musburger broadcasting legend was a little above it, but it seems like he was a head of the curve on all this. And now he's got a great broadcasting gig for an NFL team. This coming up Musburger maybe McCarron's wife. Should've went down Musburger lane? No, I think she's probably very the husband off, you know, as a backup quarterback. Now in buffalo, after doing a doing a, what are they called in prison talk. We did a. Stint not a stint. I did a bit. He did a bit and Cincinnati Cincinnati. And now he's going up to buffalo. Meanwhile Musburger setting the world on fire in Vegas. I'm just saying you ever heard of love. Dan doesn't exist, not always upgrade avenue, then we'll be on Maliki. Jackson is the man. Yes, we waited. We have a trope alert someone throwing out the undefeated. Trotha the Jaguars star said to z. sports it. Whenever I see something come from TMZ sports, I'm assuming the player is coming out of a bar probably a little bit drunk..
