Tom Brady Retires... Again
"To the final segment today. I think we're going to take into and it is also again New York Post play this out very well. If you're looking at it, it says we miss you, Tommy. And this is the retirement of Tom Brady for the second time. I run it, not an ironically, I think he probably planned this. It came on the same day he retired last year. Oh, weird. Who would have thought Tom? Look, the post has had some incredible front pages on Tom Brady over the years and some good something bad. I mean, I was going back through some of these James and looking at and frankly, I'd almost forgotten about the flight gate. You know, of course. The balls and anything going by my brain. Anyway, Tom Brady retired. I think he will retire this year. I think he, I think, probably in, you know, look, I'm not getting anybody else's business, you know, for that matter, but you wonder if he really at the end of this year thought, well, maybe should have done it. Hindsight is 2020, hot dog. Yeah. Every month. But now he is, you know, the rumor, you know, again, he's got a ten year already signed contract with fathers. I mean, 375 million or something like that. This is to show you this is interesting. He's the greatest quarterback of all time. I mean, player, you know, that goes. Of course. He might like 324 million playing football. He's gonna make 375 million and I was total in his football career, 20 something years. He's gonna make ten year prior to 375 million sitting in a booth with Fox and he's never been in the booth before. Yeah, I mean, this is like. But don't you feel, I mean, don't you just know Greg Olsen's like saying, really, man? Really? Yeah. You know? Well, first of all, Greg Olson got his shot on the big stage and he blew it. Was a disaster. But he's been Greg Olsen's fun. He's actually from my neck of the Woods. They play, we used to get our tails handed to us in football by them. I think it was Wayne in northern Holland. I don't know. But this is what I think today, because Tom Brady says he's not Russian of the booth, right? He wants to spend time with his kids and all the other lies he's telling. Because he can take a gap year. I mean, it's open to whenever he wants to come. I mean, isn't that crazy? Yeah, a contractor just whenever you want to show up. Yeah, somebody calls me up and be like, hey, any time you want to show up, here's your tears, $10 million. $365 million for ten years. You're like, okay, cool. I'll see you in a couple years. I'm going to take some time off. That's like winning the lottery and then saying, why don't you just hold my ticket for a couple of months?

"Stakes get a little higher each week, the competition just takes up a little bit of a notch up. And it's a great challenge, but listen, they got Kyle Shanahan. He has unbelievable weapons around him. He has a very good offensive line. San Francisco doesn't take a back seat and talent or scheme to anybody. And I think that's what makes this matchup so interesting is regardless of who's got the ball regardless of the situation, there are stars. There are talent. There's coaching on all aspects of this game. And that's the way it should be. Greg Olson getting set to call the NFC championship game Sunday and then two Sundays after that Super Bowl 57 on Fox right here on the rich eisen show. When you chat with Nick Siri, you got a good story. He just is so colorful is a great way to describe it. What's he like when you're chatting with him? And you got a good one for me? Greg, when he's talked to you guys? I don't know if I have like a specific story he's told. He's been really fun to talk to. I mean, these calls have probably been like as fun as any aspect of this job. I mean, I've gotten to have conversations with more coaches and coordinators and players than I had 15 years of playing in the league. You're just exposed to so many different people. But we always kind of get on them because when he does the call, he's like sitting, it's a Zoom call. So we can see him. But he's like sitting on some random couch in his office and he's just like, clout back, super relaxed. And it's like he's sitting in your living room, like having a beer, just kind of shooting, you know what? Like, it's just a very relaxed and calm environment. And I think that's, I think that's the appeal of him. He's ultra confident. They have an unbelievable staff of guys who really understand what the mission is, what their plan is, how they're going to how they're going to execute. And I think that's what comes across the most is like when you talk to people around the Philadelphia organization, whether it's biryani and our calls and just his body language and how at ease and confident and comfortable he is, it's the same way when you talk to the players. I think there's just a really quiet confidence amongst the group. They're very sure of who they are. They're very sure of where their strengths are and what their strengths aren't. And I think that's the sign of a good team. I think that's the sign of a team that's kind of been battle tested. They dealt with that adversity at the end of the year with Jalen missing a couple of weeks and kind of having some tough times there trying to find wins. But I just, I can't say enough about the job that syriani has done. I mean, we had his coaching debut last year week one down against the falcons and we were preparing for the game. We didn't know a ton about them. We knew we had the wide receiver background and came from Indy and Jalen hurts was now the week one starter. How is that going to last? And now here they are. Fast forward, almost two full seasons. And they're in the NFC championship. It's a pretty incredible and impressive coaching job that he's done and you can't say enough good things about him. Well, Greg, you had a front row seat to a dual threat quarterback winning MVP and taking an NFC championship victory to the Super Bowl. In Cam Newton, any similarities to him and Jalen hurts that you've seen at all on film, chatting with them. You got something for me on that front. I'll take a stab there. Yeah. I see a lot of similarities, you know, run game wise, start starting with that, like run game scheme and style, there's a lot of similarities to what we were doing with cam here in Carolina, especially down in the red zone. You know, you hear coaches talk about that a lot down in the red zone, you know, accounting for the quarterback when the field becomes wider than it is deep, right? Like that whole idea of how the field shape changes and how the schemes change and the coverages and how you try to attack zones in the red zone. It's hard to account for the quarterback. And cam made a living as a red zone runner, both designed and improv and I see a lot of that in their scheme with Jalen. And it's a huge challenge. Their ability to spread you out start every blade of grass and be able to still throw the ball over your head with AJ Brown and devonta Smith. And I think that's what makes this style the way their operating as a run first quarterback run heavy team. They still have that element of the elite passing game between those two wide receivers, Dallas Goddard, you over commit to trying to take that run away. You over commit to trying to account for the extra body in the box to account for the quarterback pulling the ball. With jaylen and all of a sudden that passing game, they're thrown it over your head. And AJ Brown is one of the best in the league, along with devonta Smith. So that's the cat and mouse game that I'm most looking forward to. I think that matched up between D'amico Ryan and Shane steichen in Siri. How willing are you to let them run a little bit? So as not to let them have the big explosive plays in that run game. We didn't quite have that same passing philosophy or personnel here in Carolina, but as far as the ability to make you account for the quarterback and what that does with the offensive line and the run blocking and the numbers, there's a lot of similar scheme and philosophy that I see with what they're doing that we did for a long time here in Carolina. To me, any key that involves the guy who I think is going to win defensive player of the year. It's not a very long limit you're going out on. But to me, Nick Bosa, if I'm D'amico Ryan's, I'm testing lane Johnson's groin from jump with him. And I'm going to see what's happening. And because that way I'm affecting the run game on the way to the pass, that's what I'm looking at when I'm starting. What about you? Greg. Yeah, I'm with you. I think, again, we haven't talked to D'amico yeah, it'd be interested to pick his brain here. We're going to talk to him tomorrow in our meeting. But if I'm them and I'm just looking at this, back to like I was just saying about dealing with those threats in the passing game that Philadelphia has. I think knowing I have Nick Bosa and I have Eric Armstead and I got green law and Fred Warner. Four of your best players are in your front 7. Right. I think at some point for as good as Phillies offensive line is, they're the best in the league. At some point, I think you have to say, all right, we can we're not going to bring an extra safety down. We're not going to go crazy. You guys got to play. Like, you guys, he's arguing the best defensive player in the year. I agree with you. He's going to be the player of the year. You guys got to go win and you need to go chase down some of these design quarterback runs and you guys need to win your match ups up front. So I don't have to over commit. And I can maybe keep some of those extra bodies in the back end playing our zones, getting an extra body in Jalen's face in the passing game. The second you have to over commit to that. If they account for both and they can block green lawn, Fred Warner, and all of a sudden, now you're bringing an extra safety, that's where the problems come. So I'm with you. I think this game, Nick Bosa needs to be the star.

"Nor can Joe borrow, who said this about taking on a chiefs team that is once again hosting them in the AFC championship game. Coming in is the top seed, they weren't at the top so you remember last year it was the Titans the top seed and borough knocked them off. He's going for another playoff victory against the top seat in the conference in as many years here as borough about this. We've been in these spots, we have the experience. We know what team we're playing. Team has been to this game in the last 5 seasons and they've all been in that stadium. So to me, they're still the team to beat. And then we're coming for them, but we know it's going to be tough, so you know it's going to be going to be hard fought and we know the kind of players that they have on that side. For the radio audience so cool looking. It doesn't look like he even has to shave. You know what I mean? Look at him. He is like a he looks 12. You know what I mean? He is just starting. He is a baby faced assassin. And I really thought to myself, I'm going to maybe show my age here. I don't care. It reminds me another baby faced assassin finster baby from Looney Tunes. Look at that. Smoking a cigar? Oh, wow. It's just like color for you. I never knew that kid's name until right now.

"Nebulous things I never know what to do. I never know what the tip delivery people. Like some delivers a pizza, someone delivers Chinese food. They're bringing one thing they bring in ten things. I never know. And then they're not serving you, but they are driving it to you. If it's in different weather, the whole thing, my biggest issue with the, with the garbage people is how to get it to them. Last year, I legitimately remember hearing the truck coming down the block and waking up and running out in my pajamas to give it to them because they say you can't leave it on the lid of the can. But what am I gonna do? Wait around all day for when they come. I mean, I got stuff to do. I gotta go to work. I can't just wait around till the garbage man come to pick up the garbage and go give them their tip. I get them, yeah, I do that. I stalk out, I look out the window, wait for them to cut, you know, it's the benefit of where I'm working from home so I can look out the window with my laptop there and maybe. I'm trying to think if we should talk about sports stuff, keep going with this because I'll bring this up. If you get takeout, let's say from a diner. Do you ever get to take off from a diner or like outback, very rarely, but I do Uber eats like every weekend. So I don't know about diners specifically. But you don't pick up. You get it delivered. Yes, majority of the time. My question is if you pick, let's say you ordered food at a diner for takeout and you went and picked it up yourself. Not all of us can live the lap. Life of luxury and get delivery for $20 of delivery from overeating. Right. Do you tip the people who like hand you the food in the diner when you do take it? No, absolutely not. I had that happen from work, right? I ordered something in from work. I went to pick it up with diner. And then they give you these screens now where it makes you put you on the spot. And you feel like a jerk because, oh, and her tip amount. And everybody's gonna see me say no tip. But in reality, what did they do? They're not doing anything. I don't care if I'm the bad guy. It happens at stadiums now too. You go to get a popcorn and a soda at the stadium and to the tip. Custom amount, 20%. That's tipping 20%. I'll give you my popcorn. Come on. That's different. So you know my buddy, my good buddy diesel. I've had this ongoing battle with diesel and his wife Alicia. The two of my best friends love him to death, but we've had this battle because if let's say I call up the diner and I say give me a soup a turkey club and a burger deluxe. Right. Not all for me, even in my, even in my Saturdays. But I go there, they hand me the bag. I always would give them two, $3, singles. Because the person is putting it all together for me.

"I heard our good friend Chris Russo talking about the Christmas Eve stuff. And he was saying, he's got a problem because he has to go to church and he was talking about that eagles cowboys game and the way he phrased it. He just goes, I want to watch eagles cowboys. I got to go to church. The bottom line is this. I'm dead. I'm dead on Christmas Eve. The 1 o'clock games you can get. So command is niners is not terrible. Oh, so it's only two games on Christmas Eve in the late window. Command there's niners and eagles cowboys. That's it for the window. And nothing that night, right? Yes, raiders steelers. You don't have to. Nothing that night, exactly. I'll say this. The fact that at four 25 there's only one game you gotta lock in. That makes it a little like that'll be on the TV at my parents house. It's just a matter of how close I can pay attention to it. Not the way that we would normally want to. And for me, I'll take it a step further. I sat around all Thanksgiving with football on all day. There is no chance I wouldn't even want to do that to my family. They're going to be like, dude, like, take a break. I want to watch the game, but I prefer on the one day a year that I love more than any Christmas Eve, I prefer to have, I don't know, home alone on in the background or a miracle on 34th street or Christmas music. I can't be worried about dak Prescott and freaking eagles on Christmas Eve. Well, that'll be over at least by 7 30. Yeah, but for me, we got young kids in my sisters in my niece and nephew, whatever, my God. Like 7 30 8 at your rapping off that night. Oh, is that way? Okay, see, that's like, maybe that's a little early, but still like with the baby, our bedtime is 8 9 o'clock, so even if we extend it to ten or 11, it's still, you know, you always got to find the positives, the positives here is the night game is rate of steelers. So you're not going to be missing anything. Right. That's true. That's a no, I'm not watching that game. And I probably won't watch the 1 o'clock games either. And I definitely won't be betting on them. Well, I shouldn't say definitely. Never rule anything out, but I don't think I will. That was a quick retraction. Where do you stand on your Christmas shopping? It's just so different. I don't have, here's where I stand. I don't have the time to give it enough thought. There are things that, you know, you've got to take care of, okay, let's pay out this guy and this guy and whatever you get to go over the garbage man and I like this is good. This is good. What do you give the garbage men and what do you give the mail carrier? I honestly forgot what it was last year. So I have no idea. I mean, 50 bucks. It's a hundred bucks. Yeah, I think I get 50 and I think I may have mentioned that on Twitter and everyone called me like a cheap bastard.

"What kills me is it's more about when there's a good game, close game, late, last 5 minutes, and then call comes in and the game is altered by the call. That's when I think the refs need to be taken. You know, listen, they call phantom holding in the first quarter. Okay, I don't expect anyone to go out there and kill the refs. But I feel like maybe they can't handle the pressure when it's late and close and they get nervous and I feel like a lot of them just want to get involved in the game for some reason. I think that's true, but I also think like you just said the phantom hold that they called in the first quarter, if they call that exact same one in a two minute drive at the end of the game, the hold is probably if you cut out those plays and just put them in a vacuum and you didn't show people the scoreboard, the time, how much and you just showed the play side by side. People probably wouldn't get up in arms. Yeah. They probably see. If you said, hey, both these were called holds. What do you think? Right. And you just showed people with no scoreboard, no thing people would go, okay, yeah, grabbed his Jersey and pulled him. If you said, hey, but this one called back the game winning touchdown. This one made its second and 12 in the first quarter. Which one's worse? Oh my God, it called back a touchdown. That's ridiculous. So we have the benefit of knowing the context of the outcome after the fact of knowing how important every single call was to the game. And I get it, no one wants the games to come down to refs. But we have to give the ref's opportunities to call plays and use rationale and use their brains and common sense. And I think we've made it so black and white. That it's almost damn near impossible to officiate a game nowadays. In my opinion, I guess too many, too many games do come down to the reps with what they're doing late. But I appreciate you taking the criticism and discussing it. Yeah, very, very big of you. But that's literally the only negative thing I've written. So I think we can move past it. I wish I would have known. I wouldn't have come on the podcast. I'm just kidding. I appreciate you. I want to end with this. I've got to ask you, you know, I'm sure everyone wants to know how your son TJ is doing. We know he had a heart transplant last year. There was a video that I'm sure many people listening to this saw of TJ telling his siblings that he was getting that heart transplant, which just, I mean, if you saw that, it was just unbelievable. So let's give us an update. How's he doing? He's doing great. Yeah, last year. So we just celebrated this summer, was his one year anniversary of his heart transplant. And he's doing awesome. He's in school. He's in fourth grade now. He has a twin sister who's also in fourth grade, and then an older brother is in 5th. So he's doing great. He's in school. Just started playing for a school basketball team first time he's ever played basketball. Basketball was always a little hard for him. He played baseball pretty much his whole life. That was a little more suited for his condition. And then since the transplant, he's really just improved his physical capabilities, his cardiovascular function, just as you'd imagine having an entire heart could help you a little bit.

"With the officials and oftentimes you don't end up agreeing with the officials, but I think to be just overly so let's take the call. It wasn't my game, but the big roughing to pass her call in that game last week that's gotten all that stuff. I was just gonna bring that up, yeah. I think it was the dolphins, right? Chargers dolphins. Yeah, the doctor. Herbert. Okay. So I watched that game. I didn't hear what anybody said I was in an airport watching it. By the letter of the law, like if I was calling that game, it's not the referee's fault. The referee called it like it's written in the rule book. You can not land with your body weight on top of the quarterback as you take them to the ground. It's a stupid rule. It's a ridiculous rule. It was made in a conference room by people trying to really be cute and specific that's impossible for these refs to officiate correctly. So the guy throws the flag. By the letter of the law, that is a penalty, but by all of us having a brain and knowing football and seeing it, you can't call that penalty. Right. But which side do you take? Well, I would play devil's advocate this way. I would say this. If the ref didn't throw the flag there, nobody would say a word. He wouldn't get criticized by one person, except maybe the Chargers head coach. But should the officials officiate the game reaction on Twitter? No, they shouldn't do it. No, they should not do that. But I think you said it, you said it well. There needs to be some sort of context or common sense or letter of the law, that you're going to get, he got way more that rough got destroyed for throwing the flag. If he didn't throw the flag, you wouldn't have got one piece of criticism. So that tells me don't throw the flag. But no, what tells me is it's a bad rule. Oh, it's a terrible rule. Terrible. Throwing the flag in by the letter of the law, which is what he did. To me, I'm not going to shoot the messenger. He's officiating the game the way he was told to officiate the game that were rules that were made that he was not privy to the conversations of how they were made. Right. The people who decided to make that roughing to pass her spelled out in the rule book, he had nothing to do with that. So my thing is, if it does cause this much controversy and every single person watching it with their eyeball says that's not that's not roughing the passer. It's a bad rule. Right. A 100% rule and the rule needs to be reexamined. It's not the time though to annihilate the official. That's why I very, unless it's just reckless and just brutal and negligent and I'm just not a big shit on the officials guy because oftentimes they're asked to officiate by letters of laws and rules that are damn near impossible for them to officiate. Yes. And I see it. I saw it. I lived it. My whole life. Yeah. I want to see you shit on the refs. That's what I'm looking for. I think that's easy. I think it's lazy, I think it's easy. It's funny. You know what I mean?

Like early on, my first couple of games, you're damn right, I would check Twitter and say, do people think I'm good? Do people think I'm bad? But now I'm like, people think I'm good. People think I'm bad. People think my suit's the wrong color. People think my hair's not combed. People think I look like Dexter. You know what I mean? Well, yeah, that's that one's true, at least. I see that. That I get. People aren't good. Listen, Twitter's funny. People are very funny. I mean, there's some jokes that are at my disposal that my buddies will send to me and stuff. And I'll laugh. I'm not too too good to laugh at a funny joke about myself. I think a lot of them are really good, but as far as my ability to do the job, the reality is people outside the industry, people outside of this profession or my bosses directly or really those are the only voices who I really take into account and really care about any feedback. Yeah. Yeah, but it's easier said than done, right? We're all human. I've always said the only broadcaster I've ever seen. The only broadcast who I've never seen a negative word about is Vince Scully. Outside of that, everyone gets destroyed. Yeah, it's just a different day and age now, right? You know, but you also have, I mean, besides Twitter, there's also people who dopes like me who cover the media who are writing things too. If I were you, I wouldn't pay attention to that either. "Parsons, who's the best passer. There are so many aspects to why plays are or are not successful. And sometimes when you see three or four of them, I need to be better at just pick one. And if you don't get your second most important thought, you have the entire rest of the game to share that with the viewer when it becomes when it becomes when it's relevant again. So those are the things I'm so excited about the game of football. It's something that I've lived and breathed and done my whole life that I want everyone else to really enjoy it and learn and share, but you also don't get to just talk over the entire broadcast, right? It's not the man in cast or everyone's there to listen to you. You have to talk in spurts and get out of the way for your partner. So that's part of what I have to do is like, hey, pick one great thought, even though you might have four, and you can come back to the other ones as the game goes on. So that's something that I'm in a constant battle with myself to not go information overload. And it seems like you and Kevin had chemistry right from the beginning. It didn't seem like you guys had to work too much. I mean, listen, I don't even know if I'm not your chemistry something either work on. I mean, I think either you have it or you don't, you guys seem to really be a good fit together. Did that start? I mean, you mentioned in that practice game with Kevin. Was it smooth sailing right from then on or did that really start when you did a full season last year? When do you think you and Kevin sort of perfectly meshed together like you do now? Well, I mean, I've known Kevin for a long time. Well before that rehearsal game, you know, back in 15 or whatever it was. You know, I knew Kevin when I was in high school. I knew Kevin, he worked. He went to a college in my hometown. He was, you know, a young broadcaster kind of up and comer Colin high school football games for the local a.m. radio station in New Jersey.

"Sponsor. We're going to be down in Nashville. We hold it down at Vanderbilt's campus. Last year, we had like 85 NFL tight ends for three days down in Nashville for like a three day kind of tight end, summit of classwork and on field work and some fun. It's really growing into a pretty significant event on the summer calendar. So we're excited to bring it back. What better time than now as I get ready to go call a game between two of the best guys? I love it. Our generation play in the position. So we're pretty pumped about it. Olsen and the booth kittle and Kelsey on the field, let's go. I mean, how good is that? I said it. That's I bet they did that on purpose. Kelsey and kittle on national tight ends day and just assumed you'd be calling it. I think that was planned. And I love that sharman's your sponsor. What a great sponsor. How spinning is that? Amazing. Well, take care of your tight ends, you know? They do. And so it's going to be in Nashville. Next year again, right? The whole drill. Same drill. This will be our third year. You can run it back. It's in Nashville. Vanderbilt makes a great host. And it's an absolute blast. I love it. Thanks for sharing that information here, as you know, I'm a big fan of all three of you guys and certainly the idea that tight ends matter. And I mean that for the position, stop laughing over there, TJ, what's the matter with you? And so congratulations on that. And everything going on with you. I appreciate it. So well deserved. I appreciate it. It's always great to see you man. It's always good to talk to you about that. I'm sure I'll be on soon. Let's do it again. Thanks again. "And I think going into that game, of course, the conversation early on was you know replacing devonte Adams traded to the Raiders. And they got two rookies that are coming in and Randall Cobb and lazard was still out. So I think there was that notion of like, we don't know what to expect. There might be some growing pains early in the season. And that's what we saw week one against Minnesota. And then it's kind of the unfortunate part is there's been glimpses here and there, but for Green Bay, what we just saw last week in week 6 was eerily similar. They struggle having guys win and create separation. They're not they didn't pass protect rates. So Rogers got banged around a little bit. He's trying to keep plays alive with his legs, but when your protection struggle in a little bit and the jets were getting after and he was under fire from the jump. And you're not having a ton of separation down the field. Every ball that's thrown is a contested catch. He takes a perfect throw and a great catch to just make anything happen down the field. It's not a recipe that's easily sustainable. And people say, oh, they got to run the ball more. Yeah. And that's fine, but you have the best quarterback arguably in NFL history. One of the few, the offense is always going to run through Aaron Rodgers. To have Aaron Rodgers and say, oh, but we're just going to hand the ball off a thousand times. I think it's just a little short sighted. They've got to figure out how they can develop some guys outside and whether that's through simplifying some of the reads. Again, I'm not privy to a lot of the inside information. It's a route being run wrong at the depths wrong. And they not running it how the play is designed and that's why there's no separation. There's always a lot of context to why teams are struggling. It's never just a simple fix. But at the end of the day, they got Aaron Rodgers, the passing games got to be a force for them. And on top of that, they are used to playing from a lead, right? They're used to playing ahead, their defense is able to play a certain style last year because they're winning most games and able to not really worry about the run and whatnot right now defensively green based struggling. At the end of the game, Rogers cut it to one score with that pass to lazard and the end zone. And the reset it on the broadcast is a green based defensive to come out and get a stop and hold the jets here and get the ball back and the jets went right down and recall popped one for a touchdown and then the game was never kind of out of reach since then. So just both sides of the ball right now I think are struggling to find their identity and I think you can kind of hear those words when roger speaks to the media. Greg Olson here on the rich eisen show and you just mentioned about what's wrong with Green Bay and both sides of the ball and how they gave up a touchdown after making it a one score game at home. I can't believe I'm saying this, but how much of this can you attribute to the jets being really damn good? Greg Olson, how much can you trade? I think a good part of it, right? I think it's a two prong conversation. I think the packers are uncharacteristically disjointed, right? Since the floor is taken over all we're just used to this team waiting 12, 13 games every single year and we just expect Aaron Rodgers to be the MVP, right? And all of a sudden, it's not quite that and they're 500 and the sky is falling. But then on the other end, you have another team now that entered the game three and two with the jet. Now there are four and two and there are two games above 500 with feels like for the first time and God, who knows how long, but I'll tell you they are young, they are talented. They are very confident. It's hard to believe that they have all these first and second year guys. Some of the graphics we showed during the game about their point differential and points scored in the fourth quarter and their ability to close out games and win close games for a young team. That's very, very rare. And I think it's a product of Robert sala. I think he's a stud. I think he's a fantastic coach. I think the culture change that they've implemented there is pretty significant. And their acquisition of talent has been really good. Their last two drafts. They've added premier players at premier positions quarterback tackle pass rusher corner this past year. Of course, in the second round, they get a guy like Bruce hall. I mean, just it's a really talented, fun group. And now they needed to check a box with a big time win, and I think winning in Lambeau Field qualifies it. Yes, it does. Yes, it does. And I'll tell you, you know, that's kind of the progression of a rebuild. It is. Well, I mean, yeah, the box man that I'm checking. All right, is that clearly you mentioned breece hall and I want to talk about brash and confident that sauce gardener for sure, that kid Quinn and Williams up front is a game record of the first variety. When I say verse variety, I'm talking about the tops in the game at that position and there is a lot of top names out there that you can mention and he's heading in that direction man. You saw it in person. He was a gay block to field goal. He was in Rogers lap all day. He is a tone setter. He's allowing the guys behind him to fill the gaps. He's allowing the guys in the back end to do their jobs. He's frigging amazing. That guy. There was multiple times during the broadcast that the only way we could classify what was happening is Quinn and Williams is unblockable. Ron passed, you mentioned the block the field goal. I mean, he was arguably the biggest factor in the entire game on either side of the ball. And I think when we talk to Robert sala last week going into the game, we brought him up and he said, you know, he's kind of flying under the radar right now, not due to lack of ability or his impact on the game. He's just, unfortunately, he's been playing on a bad team that hasn't played a lot of marquee games. Well, he goes, if we continue to win and he gets a national stage look out and right on right on time, he played a national game and was arguably the best player on the field. So we all remember him coming out of school. We all remember the impact and I mean, some of the guys you mentioned a few of them, some of those guys they have on defense Jermaine Johnson, the first round pick out of large state. He didn't even play another one of their first round picks from this year. You mentioned sauce gardener, Carl Austin, the other end on the other side is having a big time of year coming back off injury. I mean, they're talented and I'll tell you what, I think they're going to be a force here for a long time. So in the few minutes I have left with you here, let's turn the page to where you're going next.

"Like, Mike Boone, you're like, this guy who could only see the field in Minnesota is if everybody in front of him got hurt, he's getting some meaningful third down snaps. This kid's off the field, Melvin Gordon's funding it all over the place. They still give him shots. And then suddenly, Melvin Gordon. Gets as soon as Williams is gone, benched, latavius Murray was running the ball well, and I think he's going to run the ball very well. And he knows the AFC very well. I mean, he first burst on the scene on a Thursday night against Kansas City for the event Oakland Raiders. He knows the division. But all of a sudden, Melvin Gordon is just benched and you don't even tell him what's up. He's standing there and he's going against his former team and you're not even going to bottle that and use that and roll him downhill against his former team. So you take Russ off the field for your kicker for 64 yard field goal against his former team. In his former team's house, you don't let Russ cook there and now Melvin's back in Los Angeles against the Chargers and you're just benching him and he says after the game, nobody told me why? That's ridiculous. I mean, what's up? Who is making these decisions? Jerry Judy's like barking at the field, talking to Melvin Gordon. I have no idea what he's talking about, but he doesn't look happy he's probably like you should be out there. So whatever that's been done, take it throw it the hell out, burn it and never acknowledge its existence and start again because you know what? You're going against the jet team next week at home and they are comet. They are coming with young kids who feel great about themselves the exact opposite of the Broncos team I saw last night. As for the Chargers, you are what you are and what they are are a foreign two team that for some reason form, again, I'm not all 22 tape head. But the stuff they're running with Justin Herbert makes it seem like they don't know who they really have there. And Brandon staley was on this program last week and he's a former quarterback talking about how it's the first time that Justin Herbert has shown to the country this year, everybody knows about what he did in college. And everybody knows how he got the job initially in Los Angeles, took it over when he was an expected to start and has never looked back and has been dynamite and so many people thought he was going to be the MVP of the league this year. And then I call in place like he's the MVP of the league. Just look at the Buffalo Bills. What they got with this big strong tall, confident dude who can throw it and run it down your throat. And I know that's running it down your throat is difficult when he's got a fractured rib cage. But they're going vertical. They're just pushing it down a field. And they have a better running game with all due respect in the Buffalo Bills. With Austin Eckler, this guy's carrying people in the end zone. It just seems to me like watching paint dry with one of the most dynamic quarterbacks you've seen in the league. In a long time, they should be winning games like this by two touchdowns when you can't score. When you've got a defense with Khalil Mack and JC Jackson doing what it's doing without their Bosa. It's so frustrating watching that too. And I don't know what the hell they were doing at the end of that game, but all time outs left, I mean, plan for overtime. They were playing for overtime after they threw it on third and one on the third down and didn't get it, and they're like, well, we're not going to, I guess, Brandon Steele was already went for it on my side of the field in fourth down last week. We were lucky to get away with it. I'm not going to do that here. I'd rather take my chances. And over time, and why not? Because Russ wasn't forget, he wasn't even in the kitchen. He was ordering out. Whatever he was doing. So I'm sitting there wondering, you know, I'm seeing one coach from Denver using all his time outs on defense. And then one coach in Los Angeles, using his time, one time out when he has the ability with Justin Herbert to just go with much of the field and hand it off to his one legged staggering kicker and try and go for a shot at the end of regulation. If I'm a Kansas City Chiefs and I know I've just lost the bills and I know I'm going to play the what appears to be unfortunately one marquee game of week 7. You look at the week 7 schedule, it's not going to, it's not going to like too many fires just by looking at it. But Kansas City at San Francisco is the marquee event of this weekend. Clearly we all know Super Bowl rematch between these two franchises from just a couple of years ago. Here comes Kansas City going to San Francisco and that's not going to be a great matchup for them. Moment think, although San Francisco is banged up in Kansas City, almost won this game. All I'm saying is this, if I'm Kansas City, and I saw that game last night, I am red rbac, foot up, feet up on the table, lightness cigar and saying, we got this thing. We got this thing. And I know the Chargers just won and they have the same record as Kansas City and took them to the limit in week two on the Thursday Night Football kick-off on Amazon Prime this year. And they have the same record and looking at this standings right now. You're sitting here thinking, wow, that game at mahomes invited Henry Winkler to on November 20th here in SoFi Stadium between the chiefs and chargers. That's a pretty big one. And it may be when we all get to it. But if I'm the chiefs, I'm thinking long run here. Ha. We got this thing. We got this thing sewn up. We are so much better than everybody else in this division that everybody thought was the toughest division we'll see in the NFL in quite some time. I'm the chiefs I'm watching that Monday night game thinking this is great. More of that, please. We're good. Let's just focus on the bills and who might ever come out of the AFC north if it's the Bengals again for sure because they have our number from last year. My two cents on Thursday Night Football, a little fired up today. I had a lot of caffeine. I love it. It's an easy drive from work to work today. I'll tell you a little bit about that. And plus

"Outside game. Just working on some free throws or something. You guys said, no, Lucy had handles. You know what I mean? That's pretty cool. Yeah, it was awesome. It was awesome. And we had a whole bunch of extras. It was a scene and it just got us in it. And especially with the wardrobe, the costume in the set design just really got everybody into character. And it was so easy to make that transition back into 79 80s, man. And then they built a forum inside of LA center studios. Oh, wow. We played different teams. They picked up the floor and changed everything inside. Like when we had Celtics games or clipper games, it was insane. I wonder if the Celtics games if the floorboards are a dead spot. And they make it accurate. So you literally plan on parquet floors, like fake parquet floors. Wow. That's cool. What did you learn? You didn't know watching the first episode. 'cause everyone's been talking this week about how much of a lunatic Jerry West is, which may or may not be true, might be turned up a little bit that anything surprise you. I knew I knew a lot, but I didn't really know how Jerry buss acquired the team. I didn't know that he sold missiles. I didn't know any of his previous backstory to him prior to buying the Lakers to be honest. And if Jack can cook wasn't getting divorced. Yeah, and that might not have ever come to fruition. So I was just like, wow, this is interesting, you know? It was very revealing for me in some aspects. Yeah, fun show. Yeah. Looking forward to the rest of the show. I'm looking at your credits. And again, I'm hesitant to ask but I'll ask it. Because I don't know if this is true or not. Were you on one episode of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air? I was. I was mad. Yeah, man. It was really, really fun. I played Will Smith's son in a dream sequence. And he has a flashback because he wants a perfect house, perfect wife, perfect life. And I think my name was Shaquille, actually. And I remember one line I say, he was like, man, he was like, go, because I was like a dork. And he hands me a basketball. And I'm like, what is this, dad? I'm like, are you referring to the sport with spherical objects on the opposite ends of the court? And so that's really funny that you brought that up because it has to do with ball. So that was a really fun episode for me to shoot. Will Smith was incredible. And I hope he wants the Academy Award for king Richard. He's incredible in that role. Yeah. So do you still get a residual check from that? Oh, yeah, man. What is it? 13 cents. Probably, yeah. Maybe I can go residual. I'm like, doesn't it cost more to print paper? 14 cents. You know what? Devon, you may have missed my not one but two star turns as male reporter on CSI Miami and two different episodes. You may have missed it. Yeah, you came a long way, rich. But I will sometimes get a check for like 8 cents. Yeah. And the stamp costs 55. Yeah. I've gotten a check for a penny before. Is that right? I swear. Damn straight you cash it out. Yeah, I did like a little voice-over on.

"Georgia, I didn't get no pedicures now. Sorry. There's a series, right? Okay, okay, so I could say a little, okay, okay, cool. Let me watch my mouth. But he was just like, yeah, man. I don't wear any of that. But he was just like, do your thing. I'm rooting for you. I'm gonna watch the show with him. Eventually, but I'm low key kind of scared. My stepmother actually called me last night. She was like, heard you did a good job, so we're going to watch it, but I actually want to watch it with him and see what he thinks. So man. That would be I mean, forget about the fact that he's your father. I would imagine any role that you play of anybody who's living, right? Yeah. That you sitting next to that person regardless. Now add the fact that he's obviously your dad. That would be intense. And his thing was, you know, I'm not a fictitious character walking around, you know? So don't make me look stupid. Next new place norm Nixon in winning time right here on the rich eisen show. I would assume you are a Laker fan. Of course. Okay. Born and raised in LA. All right, so when was the first Laker game? Your first Laker memory that you actually have. I remember going into the locker room one time. There was this guy my mother knew his name was Mark scar. He worked for the Lakers. He brought me down there and my dad brought me in the Lake room, and I just remember seeing all these giants back then. And back then, you know, the reporters were in there where the dudes were changing. And I was like, what is going on in here, you know? Now at this time, I mean, I definitely went up, but I just remember seeing all these tall people just towering over me. I remember I met magic, I met Kareem Kareem actually been to our House a couple of times. My dad's still in contact with coop. I mean, he does a show with coupe. And magic I actually just recently ran into at the All-Star Game in Cleveland. And I was like, what a magic and he was like, hey, man, how you doing? How's pops? So we all have a good relationship, but specifically, I just remember looking at those shorts. And I was like, what is happening? Oh, man. Yeah. And when I really had to put those on, I was like, yo, these are some booty shorts. I was picking wedges out. My butt the whole time. I was like, I might as well work for chippendales with these things on. But in the high socks, so I don't know, man. I just remember when I realized that my dad was a celebrity. And it was when we were walking around third street promenade because they live in Santa Monica and a whole bunch of people would come up, hey, norm, storming, and shout them out. And I just look at him. I'm gonna be like, yo, these people money, did you work out AMC? We were going to a movie theater, so that the concept of celebrity didn't sit in until I actually got older. And I was born in 83, kind of at the height of it. So I don't remember too much about that time period. You know, my time period was Shaq and Kobe and Nick van axel. Who else? Elgin Campbell. Eddie Jones. Eddie Jones, Cedric sabol. All of those people. So that was my team back then that I grew up on. That is pretty cool. Yeah. You know? The Dell Harris. Yeah. I think is that the Dell Harris appearing? No. No. No, and then space jam. Is that like Dale Harris was the famous Lakers coach for peering in the space jam movies back in that? I think was in space jam, too. Was he? I think he was. I saw the new one. Let's go back. Let's go back to winning time. Thank you for.

"Actors. And i don't know if i've said this on your show before but like go four. It says a theory at least is because they're they risk their lives their day jobs every day they come into a set and it's easy you know what i mean. There's no one's out to kill them and if we're just giving them waters and coffees and if something doesn't go right they get to do it again. Do it. best version of it gets used. It's like they're always scoring touchdowns it's what it is. It's could you imagine if they got to do that in football like you know right to do over sorry yes. Let's just do it again and we're going to do it to get it right. Actors were the ones that got concussions. All the time like this. Oh god your brain rattle and you know the guy the one director who would say. Let's do it again. Even though they know they got the shot would have to be ballot. Check right now just to get in our heads. That's doing ballot check could be a great director. You think it'll be a good anything you know. I'm a pats fan. So i think he'd be a good he'd be a good anything. Waiter he'd be a great New name something. Math teacher and steph curry. Did you meet him steph curry in the world. Pretty for some. I mean you could say. Probably at least the most popular athlete alive right now. Right steph curry. I'd say well them you put them up there with lebron. Yeah definitely would. I mean right now right and like will you can also tell when the people are on the set. How how how people react to somebody. Yeah coming on. The rock is kind of starstruck by steph curry. You now and they're like could put by the way. You could put dwayne johnson as the most famous person right now on planet. Absolutely which is going to me. You know that. I'm doing this show with that. Number one actor in the world can clearly say that you do say it. It's like journalists have said it and written about it. It's news it's like it's still mind boggling to me and sometime watch him. Watch dwayne dot com doing. We're really good friends. And he's just like he's such a normal dude and and It's it's it's hard to wrap your head around and you know how big it physically and metaphorically then got the same way to. He really isn't seeing those two.

Once again he'd actually written a blog about the dangers of storms. So all my information from that there we go. He's back right. It's bound Our jake your who's back and then we're going to get to george kittle in greg olson. Yes triple plays are back. Oh this yeah. The yankees had a walk off triple play. Today has to be the first time that's ever happened. Show us no. I know i walk off. Defensive play you tell us. I know yes. No i count. I think it's a walk. It's a game winning triple boy. I'll do the research. It's happened before tim curtin would he was talking about earlier today. I think he said it was two thousand nine. Maybe doing with the mike. You're trying. it's some technical difficulties. It was sick though triple plays are triple blaze should replace no hitters because they're cooler than no hitters. Actually i think you should be able to run for triple play. What do you mean you on defense. You should be able to score a run. Yeah if you get a triple play. Yeah you should also be able to try to get a quadruple play. That's where run should happen. Just keep like if it's bases loaded. Try to get everybody out track. Even though you don't need to like a powerball strike out there. That's what should be. Those should be if you can get to four outs. Then you get a run. Okay so you can go down can do double play one. You get a triple play. Dash accounts run. I like that. Yeah so you're always just trying to get the extra out. You should absolutely figure out a way to score on defense instead of giving us like six more designated hitters like. I'm sure man fraud is going to do at some point here. Just give us what the fans want. And that's defensive runs four. yes so if you get. If there's two outs and you get a triple play. That should be two extra yup. That's all. I'm still looking for the right up there with the free. Throw right that well no. We know that this one's not legal the free throw thing. I knew that wasn't leaving. Wouldn't listen to us Jake you got it. It's the first time in yankees history. That turned triple plan would be one via walk the only team. Ge is complex that while want to what set complex balk complex. Yeah they're yoyo teacher that syracuse. No all i've been bad with pronunciations today Okay yeah i'm good sure also all right. I want more than the winning golfer at the us open for a weekly pool. I have an idea of whom you pick not gonna share. It don't want anyone else in. This pool are thirty people in the pool. I don't want anyone knowing our pick. And so this has been a torturous process picking each week but this golf pool man fancy golf i got into fancy basketball and it kind of took over my life and i live eat. Breathe that and now. It's fancy golf so we go from football season into fancy basketball too. Fancy golf to life fantasy and does it have me got my attention love that so. That's my father's day wish at somehow. We have the golfer on the right side this weekend. Whoever that turns out to be. I've got an idea of who isn't going to be another thing i'll tell you about it. When we made the plan to have this conversation it was about a month ago two months ago and we were going to discuss. T you the tiding university. That you're having your nashville from june twenty third did you twenty. And in the interim you went through quite the situation with your eight year. Old son tj. He got a heart transplant. Angular openly posting about it with your wife carol on twitter instagram facebook wherever updating people to bring them along as tj. Got the news that he now is going to get a new heart and go through it and he came out of the surgery. Okay and as we record this he still in the hospital. But i think he's coming home soon so again. I wanted to just thank you for joining us thinking that we were going to be doing one thing which we'll get to but asking an interim in the week of father's day to talk about what you and your family have had to endure here in recent days. Appreciate adam since the last time we spoke a lot's happened As you mentioned our son. Tj we brought them in about four weeks ago he was struggling a little bit For nearly doesn't know he was born with a really serious critical congenital heart defect. He was born with only half of a heart It's called hypoplastic left heart syndrome and he'd literally only has half of a heart Due to some unbelievable technology and medical advances they're able to rewire his heart to to only work that way so he underwent three open heart surgeries before his second birthday a handful of other small surgeries along the way and was really starting to flourish. She was really doing well. Playing baseball was getting into golf finishing up finishing up his second grade. You're in school. And we just. We just thought he looked different. You know he was starting to get lethargic and starting to wear down a little bit easier. Thought there was some late nights and you know just life and we finally took him into get a checkup at the clinic and it was right after they laid eyes on them. They're like we have some serious tests that we need to do and then a few hours. He was admitted into the icu. In pretty severe heart failure and they'd notify us that we'd have to begin the process of exploring Being put on the donor registries so about a week after that so exactly a week. Following his his admission into the ice year we got him listed on the heart rate on the national registry and a reclad a week later exactly We were notified Just on a random day. I was walking with launch. And they said we have come. Meet us in the room. We got something to talk about known immediately. Your first instinct is something's wrong and they said we we got an offer which means they were notified that there was a match and within twenty four hours. He was on the operating room having a heart transplant. So it's been it's been quite the whirlwind He still in the hospital as of today. But things Things have progressed. Pretty well so far. How long were you expecting to take before. There was a match for tj. And what goes into them. Mac determining whether that fits. It's a pretty. It's a pretty fascinating process and one that we. We didn't really know anything about so we do. Transplant was always at some point gonna be. Tj's future Kids with single ventricle. Which was his anatomy Following all those surgeries the oldest. One living tomato. Their late twenties early thirties and then they have heart transplant surgery. Then the idea is to prolong life. The older you get the easier. It is to find matches very hard for little babies. That's why they don't do transplants when they don't have to on newborns because there's fortunately In our country we don't have a lot of newborns. You pass away. thank god So they told us to be prepared anywhere between two and six months You know there's a lot of factors right. So there's like a geographic so there's like a third party that handles called and they're like a sanctioned Kind of like overseeing group that handles procurement of organs organs part liver not just heart and there's so we underwent a million tests. They test his blood type test for antibodies. They test the size of his chest cavity. And there's all these criteria that you have to import into this algorithm based on where you're located and then where they sourced the organ the donor organ from and then they recalibrate the waiting list and you know is one of those things where you're fortunate that you're at the top of the list because he was so critical You know he was on some medicine. That kept his heart pumping that he had to be on twenty four hours a day. He wasn't allowed to be discharged so he was in what you call one. A which is the most critical heart patients and there are prioritized and then the next levels one be so on and so forth so the good news is you. You're in the top of the group in your area. The bad news is you're in the hospital and your critically sick right so it kind of goes hand in hand and Hospital told us averaged about fifty days and we got a call on day. Eight crazy but like to get that call at that moment. You know. it's funny. I i was picking up lunch. I actually had something that had to do in the afternoon. My wife and i and our two sets of parents were kinda doing like shifts to other kids at home and run to baseball practice and my daughter's going to swim over trying to keep life the best we can right so we're finishing up school kid. They're having their moving up ceremony. So life's going on right. Free Agency 2021: Biggest Winners and Losers From Day One
"Who's the biggest winner from day. One the biggest winner from day one already told you it was. It was a my intro. You're listening great question. Jonnu smith out. It's cam newton. Well that depends kenyans a starter for sixteen games. That's right that's true. It's yeah okay. Potentially find jonah smith. Donald smith big contract with the patriots They invest heavily in him. You like this for him i do. I think you know Obviously the quarterback is the concern. But this is the scenario especially with the move that they made that we look for in fantasy as tight end could be the leader of the pack in terms of targets and opportunities and so look cam was not good in twenty twenty. If cam does start sixteen games in two thousand twenty. One greg olsen. During a five year stretch was pretty awesome of the top tier tight ends of the guys that we did. We talk about what he was in the next group you know. And so from twenty two thousand twenty sixteen. Greg olsen averaged a hundred eighteen targets a season seventy seven catches Decide one thousand yards and five times. Johnny could do that. One season estimate put them right around a top five tight end. Greg olsen was great and not only was he great but we also saw from cam newton in that stretch that he could give you greg olsen. Who could finish as a top eight tight in five straight seasons and give you a number to wide receiver in four of those five seasons three or four of those five seasons whether it was. Steve smith or kelvin. Benjamin and even ted ginn one year. So that's interesting. I'll afforded talking about that on the show tomorrow on the tuesday morning show and then of course we'll have a whole bunch of more news items to react to. Hopefully we'll get some kenny golladay news at some point on tuesday or maybe it'll happen later on monday night as record this at about nine fifteen eastern. Who's the biggest loser from day. One the biggest loser from day one on asking these questions before. I told you that we were starting with these egypt's before the show The biggest guys they ryan tannehill johnny smith and Us down smith and corey davis They're going to have to struggle to replace those guys Davis probably more. So the jonah just from the standpoint of what he was last year with his production number two receiver sixty five catches nine hundred plus yards and five touchdowns. So we'll see what they do in in in that in that regard but i think Tannehill you know. I had him as the number eleven quarterback. I dropped in the thirteen after today. Just because i think it was close between in my mind. Joe burrow and tom brady put them behind both those guys. Okay how 'bout jameis winston ryan tannehill right now. It's soom jameis winston as the starter. I still go. i think it'd be messy. You know. I can't situation we're taking those not blaming So i was hoping james would go someplace else and tastes hill. Would still be the guy with maybe a rookie or somebody. Young that they could groom continued. Just gonna to get you know too much of the mill package of james as the starter and if as milton starter. Davis is gonna play very much so it just feels like it be messy situation oil. Who do you like better. Corey davis with the jets nelson agholor with the patriots. I think adler is going to be bad. I don't trust the situation. You know i mean he. He had so many big. Plays for the raiders last year and he was so good for derek carr but he did that on eighty two targets. I don't think he gets eighty two targets with the patriots. He's going to do the same thing. So with what cam does running the ball with what jonah smith brings to the table with. What the rest of the receiving corps will look like if julian edelman on the team if he's healthy Nagla is going to be A guy that's not on many fantasy rosters middle of the season whereas corey davis could be the best receiver for the jets. I don't know if that's going to be the case. But i would take davis by far over niagara.

Predictions vs Reality NFC West, Seattle Seahawks
"I predicted the Seattle Seahawks to go 11:00 and 5 last year. I pretty much nailed it. They went 12 and for the only game I missed was the San Francisco 49ers. I could not predict that the $59 would have a bunch of injuries. I thought that the Seattle Seahawks and the 49ers would split their series each win one game against each other instead Seattle beat the 49ers in both games. So that's literally the one game it's kind of crazy. I was horribly wrong about the Cardinals the Rams the 49ers. I nailed Seattle. My prediction was right there for I'm actually not that interested in Seattle. Like I like I said, I'm actually way more fascinated when I get stuff horribly wrong. I said before the year that Seattle relies too heavily on Russell Wilson, they're starting quarterback 2000sq them from their problems and kind of ended up being true now, they brought in the receiver Phillip Dorsett. They brought in Phillip Dorsett from New England. I was curious to Phillip Dorsett kind of a breakout year and Go from a guy who was infuriating to watch a New England to maybe having a great season playing with Russell Wilson. Unfortunately Phillip Dorsett did not play a single game the poor guy hurt his foot in training camp and by November Phillip told I was getting surgery to remove bone spurs from his foot. I encourage you look up a bone spur does not look like a comfortable thing but credits yet. I Seattle try to get Russell Wilson some Playmakers. I thought we were set to not work out. Josh. Gordon did not work out. They brought in. You know Speedy Josh Gordon. He had a setback in recovery. Seattle had to end up cutting him so long so brought in Greg Olsen. They they got a veteran tight end Greg Olsen and I look I got a lot of respect for Greg Olsen. He's awesome. Last year Greg Olsen. However was underwhelming had 24 catches for 239 yards one touchdown played an only 11 games missed a couple of games with an injury. So in the end Greg Olsen retired, so Phillip Dorsett, Josh Gordon, Greg Olsen, like the move Seattle made to try to support Russell Wilson just didn't work out and that's not bad. It just it didn't it didn't work. Unfortunately right now again, I love Greg Olsen. He's amazing. I cannot wait to hear the guy in the broadcast booth next year. But now the one thing that came out very very well for Seattle on offense was DK Metcalf. G came back up Seattle second-year receiver. Oh my gosh. This guy is a monster. He had 83 catches for 1303 yards 10 touchdowns. I love to see that DK Metcalf is a receiver that is just at the beginning of his eventual domination over the NFL. He already does dominate in some games. So he keeps getting better and better and he keep getting better and better the more we watch him. Now as I look back on Seattle season, one of the things that kind of sticks out to me that's very weird still is I just did not love their 2020 first-round picks Seattle is kind of known for having weird. First round draft picks. They drafted linebacker Jordan Brooks 27th overall. And he was her early on so Jordan books now, I will say I'm not going to trash on Jordan books by the end of the year. He made some plays with doing some good stuff like Jordan Brooks. Very good football player solid right desert looks like a first-round pick the end of the year. But here's what's weird to me is that when the Seattle Seahawks went to a nickel package meaning that you bring in an extra corner or defensive back onto the field to basically stop the past when they win to track a package which is happening more and more in the NFL because teams are throwing more and more than ever before. In a nickel package. Jordan Brooks is on the sidelines not playing maybe part of that is because they were he's a rookie. They're trying to light workload. I don't know but it's kind of weird to draft a first-round pick and then not have the guy on the field. All the time makes me wonder despite Jordan Brooks being a very solid football game. Could they not have got drafted somebody 27th overall last year that could have contributed even more to their team. Just a question. I'm asking cuz I looked at it. I still book how it's bit of an odd pick life. Even though Jordan Brooks can play it's like whack could they not have done something better or maybe more interesting than Jordan Brooks just me asking a question here. You can answer for yourself. I'm just for me. I'm like man, you spend a first-round pick on a guy who's not on the field all the time,

How Will Cam Newton Make the Patriots Better?
"All right bill. We're here today to talk about the New England Patriots and Cam specifically began her. They used to film. The Cincinnati bengals sideline for which they were find over a million dollars mosque third round. Pick well the good news. Is that they've decided to uproot their entire organization and totally chance planet quarterback to bury the latest piece of evidence that there maybe not playing by the rules as everybody else. Bill Barnwell is the host of the podcast. The bill Barnwell show. You just, but there are people on the Internet positing that these events are connected. Of course. We are here today to talk about. The other came Cam Newton the New England. Patriots who could have predicted this? IS GOING TO RELEASE CAM to they're going to wait, and the Patriots are going to get him for nothing and they're going to be good. It's going to be awful in offense. It was impossible up to this point. The idea that the only team in the league that to starting quarterback might possibly make a move for the best available starting quarterback on the free agent market see Telepho-, obvious when you lay it out like that, but here's the thing it's June and according to our Adam Schefter. No other teams exception to the Browns who had some interest put in a call then New England goes out, and they get cam for basically nothing veteran minimum with incentives. How bill how? I think it's a combination of things I mean. Obviously the coronavirus has impacted team's ability to see workouts to administer physicals and Cam Newton of course as a player coming off of a serious injury, eight frank injury to the middle of his foot, which cost him pretty much. The entire two thousand nineteen season for that coming off the shoulder surgery has not been healthy in a while, and so you'd figure in a typical circumstance. He would be easy for teams to kind of see what cam has left, and then make an offer only, but there haven't really been teams able to make the sort of offers that would justify starting quarterback role. And then I think from camps perspective he rightfully would rather be making less money with the opportunity to start for the new, England Patriots say a playoff team from a year ago, then serve as a perhaps higher paid backup in a spot where he's unlikely to play. Knowing how little New England paid for him and looking back at some of the other quarterbacks who got jobs during free agency? Are there any teams that you think would have been wise to jump ahead of new? England and WHY IS IT CHICAGO? I do think that the decision to trade for Nick. Foles a player who realistically has if not Worse Injury History Than Cam Newton certainly a comparable injury history when it comes to his checkered past i. do think that the bears would have been in much better shape. Do Not trae draft pick and to sign Cam Newton for much less money than they're going to give nick foles over the next three years and I think there's a handful of teams that. That even if it happened as a backup, I think teams like the steelers. Of course you've talked about the titans as possible CAM, Newton location and I think absolutely teams like that have a veteran quarterback with a history of injuries and very little behind them in the backup role would have absolutely been smart to making move for Cam Newton, but obviously I think it's the Patriots benefit that the League has been so conservative when it's come to approach again. Let's talk about what we can expect out of canning. Which I realize, you are not a doctor, but the big question mark is you've outlined his health the last time we saw him play. Football was the beginning of the two thousand nineteen season. He only played a couple of games before his season ended due to a foot injury, he incurred during the preseason. What did you see out of Cam the last time he was healthy? The last extended stretch we saw from Cam Newton as a healthy quarterback, was the first half of twenty eighteen, and he was excellent. Newton throws. Fabio Capello Panthers one of the best teams in football at six to newton was tenth and Passer Rating Twelve Qbr and the panthers had guilty scheme that was designed to actually trying to out more quickly and leave some of the hits that candidate taking, and we saw his numbers include accordingly. SNAP TO NEWTON looking left throws it over the Middle Touchdown Greg Olsen. Cam Newton looking like a poster on feats. Assume. Thirty so frequently earlier in his career, they always posted pretty mediocre. Completion percentages in two thousand eighteen across the first half you had a completion percentage of sixty seven point three percent that was one of the best marks in football. He was averaging nearly four touchdowns for every pick producing really two hundred eighty yards per game from scrimmage. He was illegitimate MVP candidate through the first half of twenty eighteen. And then of course, the injuries struck. Labor rotator cuff just to soreness. He had a shoulder injury that led to surgery after two thousand eighteen. And then the foot injury cam stumbles Abu to the nearside. He's in trouble. Hit droplet like. Damn comes off the field limping a little bit maybe. But you tried to play through and was unable to do so.

Greg Olsen out with foot injury
"By. There's an injury note here for for Greg Olson where he is his day is done. He's out with a foot injury. He is oh you t- out. He is not coming back. And he's a guy who had to work back from a foot injury to start his season, Rob Denmark so much time. So I think if you're Carolina you you hate to see that not only from offensive scheme standpoint. But certainly from a personal standpoint. Yeah. Both. I mean, he he. He's kind of a a a mainstay not only in that offense in that organization in that locker room and the injury was a non contact injury. Which scares you the most which scares you the most as it's it was very quick that they made the determination. He was out for the game. So hoping for all the best for for Greg Olsen. But what what they lose in that offense is Cam Newton security blanket. You know, he's a guy that Cam understands that when things break down he can always depend on you can always rely on. He's a guys an easy button for camps. And when you take that away from the offense, it just makes it a

Amari Cooper traded from Oakland Raiders to Cowboys
"The Oakland Raiders in Indianapolis Colts meeting for just the fifteenth time ever the raiders lead the head to head matchup with eight wins. They beat the colts. The last time they face each other on Christmas Eve two thousand sixteen thirty three twenty five was the final behind Derek cars. Three touchdown passes. Also the game. Derek Carr hurt his ankle and couldn't go forward into the playoffs with the raiders the Oakland Raiders one in five on the season. John gruden's team coming off the bye week before that they lost in London to the Seahawks twenty seven to three. Quarterback. Derek Carr seems to be the last man standing on offense literally Amari Cooper traded to the Dallas Cowboys earlier in the week marshawn Lynch out with a groin injury. The offense align is banged up. Even car is taken criticism. But he says the team is poised to move forward. Good things bad things change. Why? And how I work, you know, I I still have a job to do. I still you know, it's gonna be harder. You know, without you know, it's gonna be harder without clear, we knew that it's not going to make it easier especially for us for quarterback that, but that's no excuse. We we need to go perform we need to go win games. And that's my mindset. And that's how a lot of our guys offensively. You were in the meetings together, awfully speaking. That's how we with marshawn Lynch out with the groin injury veteran running back. Doug, Martin will take a bulk of the carries now for the silver and black yet over a thousand yards just a few years ago in Tampa in offense. According to Greg Olsen says it's time for him to step it up here. Good that we have Doug Martin here. You know, and he's a experience football player that allows success mislead.
