"Now it'd be extraordinary if we had an identikit super bowl but you never know. The browns are amongst those upstart teams. The afc through the bills in the mix. Here as well ravens. Of course chew that. Going to run the chiefs close. We thinks this will be a fascinating battle as well. Because the browns have got so much to be optimistic about a lot of consistency occasional offensively. Of course there is a real belief that baker. Mayfield as tonto cornered. He's never going to be a Tick what back in the nfl. But he feels year on year to have taken significant steps forward to be marshalling aside cyber so much out of that is good enough. He's good enough to get them where they need to get to a defensive span. They've re upped quite significantly in the off season. Flash the cash in the checkbook out to pick up a lot of shiny free agent signings so they had the mostofi stronger on the defensive side of the bull. They are like the cowboys laden with talent. Offensively unlike the cowboys they've got an even stronger offensive line. You would argue one of the best units in the business. so how high yuan. The browns this season in the browns to lay down a marker in week. One against the afc champs. You know just thinking about this week. One games it's like any any week of the nfl season it feels like it's a buffet and you going round and you think oh i love that and you pilot on the plane i want. I want a bit of that and you might see something and you're like no no. I'm going to avoid that. There's not a lot to avoid you. I feel like i'm really piling on my viewing plates. One of the downsides of covert is the you know they've not been buffets going on anyway the browns. I am high on them. I'm high on them to really really push the chiefs. Really push them in this game on in this in this game and and over the course of the season. The browns are legit playoff team. They are one of the. Let's say one of the four best teams in the afc. Which i think is is a big compliment because the afc is laden with fantastic teams. I don't think this is a game. They're going to win. I what they need to do. And i know that there's they won't feel like there's a moral victory. They've got to keep this close. And that sounds like damning with faint praise and the thing that worries me is games last season a couple where they played a team that made the playoffs. Now i should say the browns were think four and three against teams that made the playoffs. Been a couple of those games against playoff teams. They got blown away like by thirty points. And if teams that make. The playoffs don't tend to lose multiple games by thirty points. I think as long as they keep this close because this is this is the toughest game of the season. I think you get this one out of the way and keep building. I expect it to be close. And i really. The browns will fun to watch last season. And they've they have improved. They've improved a lot. We'll see if bakeries taking the next step. I think the frazier used about good. Enough is exactly right. He doesn't need to be patrick mahomes. he's just got to be good enough and when the time has come. He has been good enough over the past year. Expectations have now been raised. Good enough won't just be you know making the playoffs. Now good enough. We'll be making the afc championship game. Which is still a tall order. Because of the talents there is on other teams. I think the chiefs are gonna win this one. I think the browns are going to push them and give them as much as they can handle and it might be. We come out of that game. Even if the chiefs win asking more questions about kansas city than about cleveland. We feel okay. Cleveland of showing that credentials and we can see what they're capable of. And maybe we'll see the. The chiefs aren't as aunt as obvious a nailed on favorites. Win the nfc. Tell us about greg news. First round pick. Greg newsom as i was. I wasn't surprised that they picked him when i was doing. When i was doing some mocks he was someone who had mocked to to them he is he is fast. Is the way that what you tend to see when it comes to. His speed is not just the speed with his legs but the speed with his arms. So they'll be they'll be points in this game where you will. You'll see in break-up passes or potentially make an interception and the swiftness with how he how he moves his arms to get them to get in position. Might sound like a crazy thing but trust me when you watch the replace. You'll you'll see what i mean. He's a great cover corner. He is aggressive. He hits hard he makes place. And i think he's i think he's going to be really really good. I think they got great value. Getting him at twenty six a. They've really tightened up. Secretary coast troy hill. john johnson. They gave up a huge amount of points of course in second game against baltimore although they ran him. Close the season opener against baltimore. Another game. eight six to smashed out so they wanna try and avoid that although in the end it didn't affect them as a playoff team season but it might have had more significant psychological impact. It's that opportunities in. Afc winning contender. What about the chiefs. The line of course was where they looked to concentrate on off the getting manhandled in the super bowl and lots of reasons why that happened and lots of reasons why there was such a change in discord within that particular unit for the chiefs nevertheless that is what they've completely keyed in on. "Heads off and you want guys to be Just aggressive and attack mode in. He's very football guy. Wearing teddy said he drinks like eight shots of espresso every morning. That's his coffee order All that stuff. it's fun it's entertaining having with the media but it can go south real quick if you are if your team's not winning and i think the team likes. I don't think this is the same culture yet that that matt patricia had where there was a lot of bad relationships with players in the head coach would j. Just don't think you can have but it will always be interesting to see how the team responds when things get rough because things will get rough for the lines at some point this year. Now i expect a lot more effort. Compared to some of those Patricia days in so those games that they lost. But that's really what you're looking for. I think if you're the if you're running the lions is you're looking to see what kind of effort guys are putting out if guys do enjoy are happy if guys are wanting to play for this coach because that's the biggest thing similar to the jets figure out what you have something or not in your head coach. So for the niners. My big question for this team is how long is the leash on jimmy garoppolo if he if he wins games you'll stay the starter They're running football team. That can win with jimmy garoppolo but losses start to stack. How many does it take till shanahan pulls the plug in puts in trae lance said. We'll see At some points but that is going to be very interesting to check out. The browns at chiefs is going to be one of the best games of the entire slates. My favorite game are minus six at home over under fifty four and a half the browns. They're trying to get revenge from last year's. Afc playoff game. The chiefs are looking revamped focused. They're pissed off which is just a scary sight on. And i think it's going to be a high scoring affair. Now we'll really see how solidified the chiefs align got this off season when now they're going up against myles garrett and jeevan cloudy we'll see what he has and the rest of that defensive front but i'm really excited to see greg newsom alongside denzel war dens award. I think that can be a lethal cornerback. To and they're gonna be up to the test against tyreek hill and those guys might be a little bit of surprise but gimme the browns plus six. I think the game will be close to that. Not sure if they win they can win. They showed they can win. Thirteen got better this off season. They want revenge for how that game unfolded. 'cause they really really could be in the chiefs in the puff game if they don't fumble out of the back of the end zone and that's what seven fourteen point swing when you look at it so give me the over fifty four. The browns post six really. I just can't watch this game and not root for points. But i think the browns keep a close enough. My question for the browns can't oto beckham junior. Look like odell beckham junior. We know the running game will will be there. We know the offensive line is there. We know the defense what the defense can provide. but where is odell beckham. Junior gonna be at come week seven week eight. Can you stay healthy. Can you produce like he used to. I think so. I want been wanting it. And that's what i think is really the key for this offense in for this team to go really far in the playoffs for the chiefs. My question is is the o line really improved added orlando brown you adage oath unni guess some inexperience on the other side of the of the offensive line with creed humphry tackle that they drafted. In the second round they raved about him thus far. But not many more questions other than that align and i think align is going to be.

There's there's many ways that you can massage this to say the steelers are gonna win the division. But i still think it's the browns. I am not going to sit here and say it's the browns bringing the browns are always going to be the browns. That's over how does that sound right. Say the i. I declare that over. It's just anybody. The browns are just going to be. The browns is a new another way for people to say. I don't believe in baker mayfield. That's it. that's the way. I'm putting it whether you think he's was never worthy of the first overall pick or you think he's too brash. Or he's wearing his hat a certain way or all that stupid stance and all that crap too many commercial or the way i look at it was previously too many turnovers too many And he had the wrong guy who drafted him and he had the wrong guy who then took over for that guy then he got the right guy and we saw what happened last year. And he's got the right defense and he's got the running game and he's got the right protection scheme it's all right. They've got it right and the draft is supposedly deep. "Stewing. But i'm going with the browns here. I think they have one of the most complete rosters in the game. I think i'm betting a little bit on baker looking in that offense similar to the way he looked in the last half of the season last year. But even if it's not quite that. I think what they've done on defense over the past off season puts them in position where he doesn't quite need to win them games. They're going to be so balanced. That i just think if this team weren't the browns because as much as they've improved in terms of kind of trustworthiness over the last few years i think there is still this tendency to be like an part of. It's the history of the team part of it's also baker. Just go like cleveland. But i think if this were like a blind taste test we would look at this go. This is just an incredible roster. This is a super bowl contending roster and i'm just going for it fortune favors the brave nora lack. Afc north. yeah. I love the roster but as i've talked about right i always liked to see it before i believe in it. Especially when there's so much newness. I was just writing about cloudy. And what he means to that defense and game last year ben zolak race that once again in a game the pittsburgh steelers simply forgot the rules of the sport of football which was awesome. It was great. I made my younger brother put his first ever sports betting on that game and he hit six hundred one parlay on that game. It was one of the best viewing experience these nineteen now. Okay honestly obviously we did it through a state where fans sportsbook is legal and went to a fan duel sportsbook. We both way. it's great. Yeah it was my thing with the browns also is this In terms of of teams. That i expect to be in the playoffs On their schedule they have the ravens honesty. They split them home in a way. But they also have the chiefs The chargers the patriots and the packers. All four of those games are on the road. They play their their toughest parts of the schedule away from home so it's one thing to be a good team. It's the thing to be a good team that travels especially when a young team travels. There's you know habits that you wanna set up in preparation and and and Kind of that big boy veteran presence and they certainly have some of those guys. But it's a week longer season they're gonna be on the road against the toughest opponents. I think that they don't catches many wins in the regular season. I think they're very good team. But i don't think they'd be baltimore so i have the rams at the top of the division and it's because even if you look at the ravens roster and it doesn't seem as strong as the browns. There's that proven success with the head coach with the defensive coordinator who hasn't left by multiple years of success with with quarterback is played an mvp levels. They've gone to the playoffs in three consecutive seasons. Now that's the sort of consistency. That i i wanna believe in and i think that the rams are gonna be able to the browns out in the division accordingly. How much does the dobbins injury or. How much did that sort of. Change your outlook for them. It certainly does and talked to him. My concerns with being thin and offense in general both rashad bateman and miles. Boykin i wanna say went on. I r recently this week so early in the season like i do not expect them to hang with kansas city league to like. I think it's gonna be tough game. That plane off the ground a little bit. But i have faith in them. Having always employed committee backfield to find answers even without dobbins there. And i do like us edwards for what he is and so it. It gives you pause because they're thinner. But i still think when they put their best eleven out there. They're going to run the football anybody. Okay i'm gonna go. I'm gonna go browns to really good teams. I think that what swung it to me. Was this offseason andrew berry. I think eric the top five journal manager in this league. top ten But what's one to me was that it is clear to me that andrew berry is going to fill the gaps that are needed to be built. And whether that's in the secondary whether that's something as simple as agassi grant elba was out for all last year he's coming back healthy within going out and signing what might have been the best slot cornerback in the nfl Making the draft picks they needed to make back their Some greg newsom. Playing cornerback I think that joe troy hill. It was a great value signing. I think that everything that they did solve their problems. I who they're going to be better this year because of it baker mayfield is not as good. A quarterback is lamar jax now biggest quickly close but i think over seventeen games that roster so talented That i think that the they're both going to the kind of the thirteen fourteen when kind of thing. It's gonna come down to a half football or quarter football a couple of drops. But if i had to guess right. Now i'm going cleveland And i think ben. I know that sounds crazy. You said the success over the past three years if they've had and the coaching stability and the just the program that they run their. And i'm probably going to regret saying this. But i'm going to say it anyway. Good i think. Kevin's defence can andrew barrier building. A program that gives them that sort of stability.

"The cleveland though for two off seasons. Now all we've heard from browns players is that joe woods the hardest working coach. They've ever been around and how he's helped them improve everyone's technique. He's just he's intricate and his teachings and the good news is. Aj berry went out and got him some dogs this off season and you factor in the improved health. That's going to be huge. Because if you look at joe woods can actually run the defense. You wanna run last year and even without this like year one progression and i know a lot of people aren't really thinking of joe woods in the light that i am because we didn't see the efficiency number increase year over year but if you dig into some of the concepts you can see how good joe was was. The browns had the most injured secondary in the nfl by a mile right. The secondary alone had triple the games lost than the nfl average and yet the browns were the fourth best team in the league. Stopping opposing team's number. One wide receivers. It tells you it's a really good scheme to mask. Injuries in the secondary. Joe was forced to use a lot of cover three. He couldn't be versatile and give offense is different looks. He couldn't expose the secondary so only blitz twenty one percent of snaps third lowest rate in the league. i am hearing with nine new projected defensive. Starters not only have the jimmy's and joe's improve but expect a scheme upgrade of xs and os. You know he wants to move guys around more in the front seventies talk specifically about moving myles garrett and clowney around to create matchup problems from what my sources are saying. There's been a huge uptick in man coverage in the secondary this camp. Well cleveland is going to make a massive leap no no bones about it and joe would second season. They finished twenty fifth and defensive efficiency a season ago. Expect this to be at least on average defense. At least the browns play bottom ten schedule of offenses. If you told me they fight to be a top ten defense this year. I probably wouldn't argue with you. But i do think they get to that average mark. I really do the seven most expensive free agent editions. This offseason we're all defense. And then the first two picks in the draft both events john johnson troy hill came over from an elite ram secondary. Last season johnson. One of the premier free safeties in the league does a fantastic job. Negating big place. Clowney jackson in mckinley is a nice way to upgrade. Defensive line affordably. They all kind of having attribute that didn't allow them to sign for massive money whether it's a specific skill set or age but they're great value signings whether it's a healthier greedy williams or the first round pick greg newsom. There's now someone to pair opposite denzel ward and that's important because again. The browns did very well against number one receivers. But if you look number. Two receivers perform better than expectation and the other ancillary weapons to horst the browns secondary receivers that were not number ones or twos perform. Twenty percent better than expectation against the browns secondary last season. It just tells you they didn't have the dogs past denzel ward linebacker was upgraded with anthony walker. Jay okay walker had a better coverage grade than darius leonard last year j. o. k. was fantastic and coverages final season at notre dame and i think he provides a real nice speed element which comes in handy when you have to face a guy like lamar jackson twice a season so from a talent perspective from an x.'s and o.'s perspective from joe woods can actually put out there to opposing offenses each week. Everything's going improve for this unit. Fat last thing with the cleveland browns and you mentioned off the top their win total from nine and a half taking up to ten. And a half. With all the hype. Does everything that we've seen. As far as them upgrading. The overall talent level on their roster. Do you feel the market is accurately reflecting how good this team can be or do you think they're still under selling them a little bit. I think it's probably right on par right now nine and a half for a team that was supposed to win seven point seven last year and then you add an extra game but we think it's year two. That was probably a little light. But i think you are looking at ten and a half as the right number at this point. It's really interesting. I think we talked a little bit about this off air not specific to the browns but in general when we decided do thirteen. Preseason podcasts and i looked at the number of futures we had bet last year. I kind of said. Hey you know what. We might not have a problem. Getting to ten or eleven. Best bets in the thirteen podcasts. And then yesterday had a chance to speak with some of my guys and in a couple of guys that we share information from from other groups. And it's like down. The market has priced. Pretty damn. well this offseason. There is not a ton of futures that we love. And i think it partly goes into what you sat and i'll let you expound on that a little bit more but basically it was. These futures are getting released earlier and earlier guys that are sharp but not betting lot are touching them earlier and earlier in its allowing books that once they increase their limits. And you're in the middle of july in late july and even early august even though were more than a month out from the season. The market's still price pretty well right now. Yeah i mean. I think it's a trend. We're seeing across all sports. It's kind of that. Golden age for that nickel or dime better. Who doesn't have to try and move. Large sums of money on these can do his or her homework well in advance and get down on win. Totals division futures game of the year prices early on get the best of it and you know what do a lot of the research and development For bookmakers out there who value their opinions allow the markets to be shaped before some of the heavy hitters. The guys that you work with wanna move substantial sums have a chance to really pick apart what we would have defined as immature pricing market. Two years ago. I mean pain i think back roughly ten years give or take a year to my time behind the counter and how late we were putting up. Nfl win totals at caesar's. Let's call it late. July early august maybe to be generous. And you would still see volatile swings moves for one one and a half games in some instances because it was a market. That wasn't talked about a ton it wasn't picked over and i think that's just what all of us have to deal with with the ongoing evolution for sports betting. That if you wanna cut yourself into a million pieces you want a handicap. All the sports that are out there. You're not going to be able to get some of the best value especially some of the high level markets for the nfl nba win totals. Whatever else will tickle your fancy in terms of trying to diversify that portfolio and it's also the ultimate win win. I sports books weakened. Put these lines out three months earlier. Pick up all the media and news and marketing coverage we can and we can allow that five hundred thousand dollar better to do our work for us and that's a effectively. What's happened here as as the new market has come to light over the next over the last few seasons rather i sure and it'll be real interesting not to go too far off on the tangent that we started to see what the evolution looks like and hall of that goes. But it's one of the things that i was taught when i was coming up through the industry that hey you can set a number. You can have a strong opinion but all it takes is one back to to move that particular price especially if it's evaluate opinion and that's what it should be more of a cat and mouse now. We can nitpick in terms of limits. And if it's three hundred dollars that should do that or obviously a couple of dimes at least given one of my experiences about ten days ago to better win total but hey look that's the world we live in and all of us are going to have to evolve in die regardless of what side of the counter were on ultimately. I think we just are hoping as professional sports bettors.

"The browns offense was hovering around the top five. And that's all with the brand new coach scheme and a shortened offseason. And now you look ahead and it's like what don't you like offensively. It's the most expensive offense in the nfl. And that's really something to say because baker mayfield's dylan's work deal so andrew berry. The browns jammie basically has done something every quarterback would die for. And that's just a support system right. And now you get a full off season learning more of kevin's to fancies offense. This is a big year for baker. And it'll be interesting to gauge because the difficulty of passing defense cleveland faces improves from third worst to above average. The pretty big jump but what is interesting. Is the schedule of run defenses declines. It was it's the fourth easiest and we know. Stefanski has no problem running to set up play action but when you look at some of the metrics it's like hey maybe we have baker pass a little bit more on first down is really good doing that. Let's enhance that rape. But when you look at the schedule of increased passing defenses but substantially worst run defense schedule. Let's see how this shakes out but from betting perspective. What's so interesting and and really telling and we try to emphasize this prior to the start of every season. We do so with some of these podcasts and todd you kind of grazed over it a little bit but we talk about python. Occasionally expected wins. And if you look at cleveland they were supposed to win. Seven point seven games last season but won eleven so a lot of luck writes some fortune was on their side. she would immediately think regression. But it's been the opposite pro betters of bought cleveland this offseason. It's why the wind total's gone from nine and a half to ten and a half. Some places generally speaking when you and i talked pie tag and fumble aachen field goal while it's important. It's really the icing on the cake. Right in sprinkles. Maybe you're not basing future investments on only that it's nice to have in the back pocket but scheme in roster in fit and injuries in schedule in obviously in a market price relative to that market. Those are still things that matter most. So it's why. Cleveland is being bought from professionals this season. And it's not necessarily as easy as saying. Hey they should have won four less games last year. They were super lucky. I'm gonna fade the browns. So it's really an interesting team from that perspective when you look at the browns. I mean we talk. Obviously a great lengths about nick chub and what he means to the running attack we know what baker mayfield. You highlighted some of those numbers and i think. He was kind of eye-popping when i see what he put together over the final ten regular season games only two interceptions to sixteen touchdowns in nearly twenty five hundred yards passing. The browns receiving core gets healthy return of odell beckham junior. And you never wanna go. Hey look the team's going to get worse when you add a superstar to the mix but pain when you try and break down the browns passing attack. Do you feel. There's a little bit of a disconnect as far as bakers relationship with odell and maybe getting a guy like donovan people's jones to emerge emerges a true number. Three can help a little bit more because the numbers haven't been great when baker mayfield tries to connect with odell and that's part of the reason we've seen his productivity really declined precipitously since he left new york. I don't know if you've got this memo. But you're not allowed to talk about donovan. People's jones on this podcast. He and devon bush. Burn the florida state seminoles and they were package deal and ultimately chose michigan. So you're not allowed to mention on the podcast but to your point. Yeah mark in that down. That i got a long list. Now that's like the seven thousand four hundred and thirty second thing. I can't say in the pocket so imagine it to the list obi jay and baker mayfield have a fantastic relationship. So let's not skew that for the listeners. They love each other. They hang out off the field and it's almost like that. Friendship is so deep that when they get on the field baker feels like he has to force it to get oh. Bj involved and they just have not been on the same page. But what's really interesting is a guy. That i've been clamoring for is higgins right all lady y- they seem to have this report that just fantastic so if you look at a guy like higgins. I mean last year when baker mayfield threw him the ball. It was like twenty. Nine percent above expectation is fantastic. You mentioned donovan. People's jones now it was a very limited amount of targets and reps puts like he was also last year when baker targeted. I'm like fifty two percent above expectation. And then you kind of get down to odell beckham junior and well you know. His season was short-lived after leaving with injury it was like nine percent below expectation when throwing to odell beckham junior so that has to get figured out. No doubt about it defensively when you look at what this team did. A lot of fresh faces out there. They add the likes of debbie. Clowney me jackson reunited with his former defensive coordinator in denver tack mckinley. That trio all comes in on one year deals. You go out there. I have no idea how this team has had as much cap space as they've had over the last couple of years to to bring in a lot of these guys but when you look at this browns defense and that's not even mentioning the likes of green williams and grant delpit who should be healthier as well. Can this defense. In european take all of these disparate players that have accomplished a lot and other destinations blend them all together and turn them into an elite stop unit that really was lacking a season ago but to the browns credit at least they solidified their run defense.
