What the Democratic debates showed
"There's a lot to talk about what your your started them debate last night I I would spend a few minutes talking about it it was a shouting match for awhile and I'm not a fan of that you've heard me rants about the panelists that we have the excessive commentators sometimes six eight ten twelve wins election day it seems like that's bled into the Bates too many moderators can't control the mikes they shout over each other that's that was my initial take away well yeah they they have this interesting dynamic so there's this game theory of who's going to end and for for some parts you know they would let someone who's talking over some well we're not actually grab the Mike so there was a incentive for that the combatants as it were to kind of do that and it just makes for really bad communication they will I you know towards the end they stand stop doing it yes what was really annoying was when the moderator would say give me one word and then they go on for let's just raise your hand one word answers garden yeah it was a little sophomoric but for the most part you know yesterday's debate was clearly the a team I don't know if Colin agrees with me but they were the the pros was much more interesting to watch you know you have the people who seemed a little more presidential or or you could imagine going toe to toe with trump where as I think Wednesday night it was a you know a little bit more and it did pretty well but it really was kind of the B. team yeah well it with regard to the format and then I think the incentive for any candidate is kinda have one of these moments right one of these moments of people be pleasant about talking about something allies people come in with pre rehearsed lines and they try and find a man trying to ploy and some fall flat some do well they come out here since food that that that was pretty clearly scripted but you found a great place to deploy so in and when you have a stage that big even over the course of two hours I mean I think I saw Biden spoke the most last night it was a twelve total minutes yeah yeah the others are shocked shocked up into five to six to seven minutes total over the course of two hours is just a very very difficult endeavor it's not great but it makes for good entertaining I should know this but I think in a window this down as we call here then the next round I some of these inch bench marks with their with polling and and fundraising so it should get further when I'm down back I suspect we're gonna have big debates for a while well there's ten more you watch and some guy just lost I lost four hours my life this week watching this often and I really didn't learn anything I think I have a better sense of who these people are in there literally three or four people I I'm pretty turned and I'm on the radio about politics and I don't know who these people were Merion Williamson I miss you know what you think things to say I so I've been thinking about this why are we including these people these are kind of gap flies that and I thought we should really give them of of bi level stage but then I thought about it and what we're trying not to have is someone with a little bit of a following get out of the tense and and start a third party thing a Ralph Nader thing so it's better excuse my language arts better have people in the tent being out there not outside the tent is the governor of Montana not make the cut in and Marion Williams he got into lake yeah my goodness you know I'll say this I I gave a small contribution to a couple these people the more moderate people Hickenlooper and Bennett to try to get him on the stage and now I'm thinking boy I kind of messed up because they really did not bring anything to the table they didn't say anything a unique or interesting I mean Hickenlooper stood up for capitalism I suppose but I think we're going to quickly see some winnowing it'll be interesting to see if any of these people can see the writing on the wall and and and let their narcissism down a little and just step out of the race do you think this is come out here since shining moments was just for a chance to kind of step up as it as a serious contender yeah she's always been very plausible on paper when you look at her resume look as she is her record kinda knew she was gonna be danger in the sun this type settings as a prosecutor prosecutors lawyers tend to do pretty well in these types of settings yes so I I think there's some buzz coming out of this debate about her it's really interesting it you know we've talked about bite and whether he's a strong front runner weak front runner is very very interesting that the first blood drawn is based on comments and positions he held in the nineteenth seventies are not we are arguing about busing last night that is the moment that came out of the debate last night it's a really really fast and dynamic and one that I think is going to continue to play out for Joe Biden is taken so many positions that are just completely at odds with today's what he knew they were coming you know I mean the the punches were telegraphed everybody and he still kind of just could not articulate his defenses and he let Qemali Heris use him as a yeah I mean this was her night she had a foil and he really if he had some of those scripted can a king and a rejoinder is to these these these punches I think he would have done well but he did
Four candidates at top of Trump's list to replace Sarah Sanders
"Are now four kids at the top of the president's list to replace Sarah Sanders. That's the job that I said, I, I would want nothing. No who, who would want that job to be the press secretary. That is a tough enough job as it is. Let alone during this administration. That is just a that you talk about a meat grinder. So we know Sarah Sanders is stepping down. President Trump according to Reuters has four leading candidates under consideration to replace her. They are White House deputy press secretary, HOGAN Gidley, HOGAN Gidley. First lady Melania Trump's communications director. Stephanie grisham. Former State Department spokeswoman, Heather Nauert. You may remember her. She was on Fox News for many years, Heather Nauert and outgoing treasury department spokesman Tony Sega essay, why h anyway, the source said, uncondition of anonymity HOGAN, Gidley, Stephanie, Grisham, header, Howard, Tony, saying, or Sega Sanders announced, of course yesterday. She's stepping down at the end of this month. Couple more weeks left. She's been on the job, two years. She's going to return to her home in the state of Arkansas. She will do nothing but relax. For a long, long time. I will give credit to Sarah Sanders. In this way, she did a much better job than spicy did Sean Spicer. That was that was tense and uncomfortable and awkward and tough to watch and tough to listen to. And I think what Sarah Sanders came along cook. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Anders Huckabee, whatever which she came along. She brought a certain amount of normalcy and I'm using air quotes here on the radio normalcy to that position. And normalcy to what that job entails and make no mistake about it. Being the press secretary for President Trump is unlike any other press secretary or press secretary's responsibilities for any prior president because in the end we'll look when when you're in that position, you are always. Really speaking for one person the president. But for this president, I really believe that not only are you speaking on his behalf. But you are also out there, trying to appease, and please, that president always whenever you work in the White House. You're clearly working. At the pleasure of the president trying to please him. But. What Spicer and what Sarah Sanders has had to do is been on a completely different level in terms of working to satisfy the man behind the resolute desk in the Oval Office. This has been something, an a completely other level, which brings me back to my original question. Who in the heck would want this job? I mean it's a no win situation to begin with. And it really is a job that. It really is a job for somebody who is willing to walk really blindly down the path and follow an avenue that rightly or wrongly whatever you believe, personally, you've gotta pedal, the narrative of the day, and you have to peddle the narrative, coming from, again, in this case, the Oval Office, which is always very difficult, which is always, or I should say, we can oftentimes be personally conflicting, but for this president for this administration. The office of press secretary is as unique one as we have ever seen. And whether it's HOGAN Gidley, Stephanie Grisham, Heather Nauert are Tony sag. I'm butchering that name if Tony gets the job will, obviously, get the name. Right. But if it's one of those four people.

"He was in town last night for the game. Greg matzek? First question K, the bucks that good or the Celtics that ban the bucks of echo. They are juggernaut. John. It is a fischel. The bucks are juggernaut. I think the things that they've done if you compile the regular season added to the postseason sixty eight and twenty three pretty impressive. The bucks have one playoff loss after two series. No other team has fewer than three losses in the playoffs. The bucks fifty to win by ten points or more not close games that the bucks are playing. So again that includes the regular season. But also a handful of games in the playoffs. I mean, double digit wins been routine for the buck. So very impressive with what they've done, and they haven't really strayed too far from what got him to this point. They still let it fly still spread the floor. Still let Janas attack the lane, and the, you know, have kicked open shooters have been able to knock down shots and offensively. They weren't really clicking on all cylinders in the first half. But they tend to pull away from teams. And they also clamped on defense. One does not affect the other seemingly with the bucks. If the offense is down the defense back up if the defense is a little bit shakey the offense tends to be their their tough out man to your point about sticking with their game plan, Greg. So Brooks Lopez didn't have a great series shooting the ball, but he continued to spread the floor continue to take the shots. He continued to play outside the arc. How important is his role. Even when he's not knocking down shar shots to create that spacing and open up that offense. He might have been the most consistent player against the pistons. If you wanna get back to the first series in. There was some thought that Lopez would get played off the floor given his size, and it just trying to see the different lineups that Boston would put out there. Boston never really went to small but Lopez did stay out there and he played through stuff. He didn't shoot the ball. Well, yesterday got into some foul trouble as well. But even if he's not knocking down shots. He's a great rim protector and Janas can gamble. Little bit. Other guys can gamble out on the wing because they know they've got folks download that can help turn. Shooters or at least alter shot. So he's not doing it with his three point shooting. It hasn't affected as defense or is confidence. Aiming that's for sure. Greg Matic bucks insider. He's been with the team throughout this run of the playoffs that will continue they'll open at home, and we already know that games three and four on the road. Whether it's Philadelphia or Toronto will take place beginning next Sunday as in about ten days from now, Greg, and I will be traveling with the team and bring you the very latest when they hit the road and all the home games, of course, here on WTMJ as well. It is three forty eight tourism secretary, Sarah Meany up next. I'm.

"Here's Greg Matzek. Well, it's a wait-and-see game for the box who are back in Milwaukee. Following a sweep of the Detroit Pistons winnow, the bucks will play the Celtics in around to the question is when what is the oddest remember about the last time, the bucks played in the conference semifinals will not much. He was barely seven years old. Never. But it it was the play against the Philly game seven and the rest. That's all I buddy. I gotta go watch. I gotta go back now, watch the tapes games. One and two will be played at Pfizer form in Milwaukee. Look for game one to be played on Saturday or Sunday, pending the NBA's final decision. Four games on the playoff scoreboard tonight. Raptors seventy Sixers in trailblazers can all events with wins in Denver Nuggets. Spurs play game five of their best of seven series, which is tied at two games. Apiece. Brewers. Meanwhile, lost four or five they are in Saint Louis for game two of a three-game series against the cardinals starting pitching for the brewers. Not good a combined area of five eighty one. That's worse than the National League. The one exception Zach Davies who will take his sterling one point one nine eight of the mount tonight for thirteen at eleven on the season. So how does Craig counsel view the team we could change the answer? That thing every day. We're thirteen and eleven that's a record. So that's how we're doing. There's been some good. You know, I think we got a pitch better earn your record wherever it is. And I think we've earned two games above five hundred Dr coverage of tonight's game begins at six ten on WTMJ and finally John two days away from the NFL draft the Seahawks. Chiefs complete a trade. Kansas City sends Seattle of first and third round pick in this year's draft. In a second rounder in twenty twenty two the Seahawks in exchange for defensive end. Frank Clark Clark will also sign a five year one hundred five and a half billion dollar contract with the chiefs. All right. Thank you very much. Greg. Good to have you back bucks radio network analyst, Dennis Kraus's e up next the all American window and door. We love Wisconsin to tour.

"Host, Greg Matzek. Welcome back to the program. Greg with you on WTMJ college basketball in swing tournaments all over the place all over the world, quite frankly prior to the Marquette golden eagles beginning their season. I had a conversation with Marquette legend Tony Smith now of the market. Golden eagles radio broadcast team. I'm looking forward to this season. I'm fascinated by this Marquette team, Tony, and I look at the big east, and there's only one team that starts the season ranked, and that's Villanova. That leads me to believe that this conference is pretty wide open. I mean, obviously, the class of the big east and have been for a long time and. No. I don't foresee that change time soon with. What a goes, right? Got going over there. But you know, there's still some good teams. Obviously, you know, you see a lot of the big east teams in a tournament. I don't think that's gonna be different despite preseason rankings. I think that you know, obviously marquess pretty rank pretty high based on what they have on the roster. But you know, you still have the usual suspects out there. They're going to be pretty good at providence. I was going to be pretty good. You know? So it's gonna be tough. There's always talk. There's just a lot a lot of different a lot of different teams out there. There's a lot of competition in the big east to win on the road. You mentioned places like Creighton and Butler tough tough to win on the road, really anywhere. But especially the good east. I don't think we know what kind of homecourt advantage. The Marquette is going to have yet at Pfizer form. I assume it's going to be outstanding. But never see the game played at that joint yet. So tonight's going to be test number one. And neither have they the exhibition game against Carol. Now, universities, not your college anymore. Diversity? But you know, that's exhibition with exhibition is just as exhibition doesn't really count. So know tonight, it's gonna be I think a lot of testing out for everyone is going to be a lotta that's wait and see what happens. And and how it goes for the coaching staff the players, you know, everybody from the guys that are returning who coach staff they already understand what those. Can do a game situation in high pressure games? But going to be a young the young guys coming in and the new guys coming into this by serving that's gonna have the eye on. I think so what was that? Like, Tony you can model these high school you stepped onto the floor playing division. One college basketball. There are some young players in the market squad. Is he talked about when those lights go on for the first time like that? How is it? How complicated is to manage your your nerves and your excitement and your anxiety going into that first opportunity. Yeah. I mean, obviously, the biggest thing is managing the nerves and excitement goes together really asks you up, and you gotta kinda you know, we're trying to see this nice little soft term shot. You don't wanna be amped up nerves? You know and excitement because you probably see a brick, and you know, I expect to see some kind of some nerves going early some jitters from the other guys. But that's why you gotta kind of lean on your guys who've been there and done that a little bit star komo's down and the understand, you know, they don't have to make this big splash right away. Just get your get your game off in the flow. And just do what you've been doing in practice. I think that's the big thing is the hardest thing to understand. You. Don't wanna game clubs are just an extension on what you've been doing in practice. So you don't have to do anything. Crazy. It's almost like nothing's different here than what we've been doing. But again, the lights are on Reno shippers time out there. We can talk all this. How to stay calm and how not to get nervous all you want to. But it ain't gonna happen. That's why I'm going to give them, you know, ten fifteen minutes to on themselves down. That's new guys to that. To the Team New guy to college basketball. I'm gonna give them that much time. Because I think that's what they're going to need Sam houses and all conference caliber player. His brother Joey joins the team now is a freshman six nine out of Stevens point where does he fit in in this rotation Tonio or does he fit in right away? How's it going to work out with him? Do you believe, oh, you're talking about a super talented? I mean, we talking about the guy has a nice skill set from being able to play outside to being able to play all the way inside maybe do a little bit of posting up depending on his match up. So you can play all over the floor. And I think that's going to help him. You know, somebody a little bit quicker officer game is going to be relied on. I mean, he's gonna be after seducing scoring because he can. And I think he's just a guy who, you know. He's not. A stranger to to scoring. An ice school his brother plays. I think he's got a lot of things working for him that they're going to help him. That'd be a factor. Quicken and they're gonna meet him. He's wondering are more versatile players. And again, they lost some scoring with Rasi last year. So they need some people to pick that up. I think he's going to be one of the guys who they're gonna depend on that helps at a guy like Marcus Howard. I would imagine you mentioned Andrew Rowzee it. It was a great one two punch last year with Howard Rowzee, and certainly Houser was a part of that as well. As a great option rows, he's gone and everybody knows Marcus Howard is he's not going to sneak up on anybody. But I mean, how critical is it that guys like Joey house or other rotation guys can be relied upon just to try and make life a little easier for the dynamic point guard. Anytime you lose, you know, a guy like rows and other players you have to obviously get that back in some capacity, and especially with Hauser, I think I mean, I mean Howard. He's more of a, you know, he's more of a two guard actually our point body. So that's why you saw Robbie having a ball. Now this year, you know, he's entertained on Shartouni to handle the ball collect how we get off the boss screens, and and. Put some pressure on that way. So you know, you have him doing that. Then you say you have Hauser who can score a little bit. You got some other guys that can are probably gonna be relax to scuttled and helping the scoring loss from Rasi. And so it's not gonna be one guy making up what you lost. A couple of guys in the different areas. And you know, these new guy also the other thing they have to deal with it's really figuring out with their own abilities. You know, at this level, obviously coming out of high school. They're all everything. Now, you know, they're not very talented as opposed to everybody on the floor anymore. You know that was high school. This is college. Everybody's gonna be Taliban. So that's another that those young guys have to make how long did it take you to adjust to that the D one level versus high school hoops? Yeah. You know, the thing is like you come in. You're like, okay. Now, I'm in this big time college, he's got to be good. And you know, quickly I figured out like, you know, I can play with these guys. And you know, you start to feel more comfortable. Hey, I do belong here. Can you know be effective? I can I can do what I need to do out there. I can score into. I can you know rebound quick enough to to handle this level of play. I think the quicker to guys understand that and see that they don't have to force things the quicker. They're gonna become accustomed plan. Then be able to just settle in really started.

"Walkie brewers. Greg Matzek looks back at the season credible season. So far heck ain't over yet. Enjoy the wild ride that was and continues to be the twenty eight team Milwaukee Brewers season. Don't miss this. It's tomorrow morning at eleven o'clock. It's in our usual WTMJ conversations time slot. It's remarkable to think back on all the highlights and the ups and downs is the baseball season will give you anyway, Greg Matzek, we'll take through a lot of it. And the memories continue to be built, of course, leading to nothing in the National League divisional series. I'm looking at images. Now, these are live images outside the supreme court of the United States where there are throngs and throngs hundreds and hundreds of people. I am not good at judge crowd numbers. I don't know if it's thousands. But hundreds and hundreds of people are not only all over the steps of the supreme. Court, but they're all the way up to the doors which are closed locked with signs as these protesters are. Their right up to the front door of the supreme court. These are some remarkable remarkable images. I don't know. And I don't want to say if ever my lifetime. I don't remember ever seeing anything like this in terms of protests to this extent with this veracity at the supreme court at the front door, quite literally. And you know, how much I hate people and hated when people use the term literally unnecessarily, but quite literally right up to the front door of the US supreme court reports as CNN saying that debris Cavanaugh is inside the supreme court now as those protesters continue to chant on the steps several hundred I would say, I think is probably a fair estimate here. What this does remind me of some of the sites that we saw here act ten in Madison Leah book mirrors made Senate US Senate candidate Lee mere state Senator Lee near though with that piece column she drew analogies between what she experienced and saw in Madison. In two thousand ten and twenty eleven when it came to the act ten protests. That's what this kind of looks like right now, just the imagery, the pure imagery of what we are seeing here. Not unlike what we saw with crowds swarming that front doors of the capital four one four seven nine nine one six twenty. That's the accurate mortgage talk and text line getting your reaction on this remarkable day a day in which Brad Kavanagh becomes the one hundred fourteenth Justice of the United States Supreme court fifty forty eight is the vote the final margin plus to getting cabin to be the ninth member of the courts and getting President Trump his second nominee promised. We'd start with Jim. Let's do so in south Milwaukee. Hi, jim. Hi, good afternoon. Disagree with a lot of those having Gators that are stating that women will somehow react in a negative way towards the candidates running for lecturers fall because of the cabinet decision. I've got a couple of sisters, and of course away from. Over seventy years old. I've had taken alive within the last few months about this issue were in the majority of opinions. I I think in the biscuit reporter Republican firm, I believe that the women who have in their lives that are roles like some brothers. Sons husbands of the boy said crafts. They are very very concerned about what happened to them. If another person similar to stock. The Ford comes along fair love ones without any evidence. Because of some. Memory, whatever motivator that they are concerned about that happening to their nails era. I think that'd be a concern. In addition to the fact that they're violation of a rule of law in this country has been overturned by these people who are just makers many. Bye. Bye. Organizers look, sure. Yeah. Jim. It's tough to tell not appreciate the call, Jim. And I think you make a valid point whereby. Accusations impact both sides, and I personally believe that professor Ford based simply on her testimony. And while there was not corroborating evidence to say that Brad Kavanagh. Was the one that assaulted her? I believe she was assaulted. My doubts creep in when she's unable to get corroborating evidence or even one person to say, I was at the party. I drove her home. I remember being there just something give me something. Give me somebody. And I realized the FBI investigation was limited in scope. But it would not appear as if that was able to produce any of that corroborating evidence either now some will claim it should have been more wide ranging the FBI probe did not interview cavenaugh did not interview. Dr for the second time. Maybe that should have been the case could have been a little more thorough. But. To the point of the accusations. This touches everybody in so many different ways. Whether you yourself have been a victim. Of sexual assault. Whether one of your loved ones has been a victim of sexual assault. This hit so close to home. And I think in Jim says a lot of these protesters are paid by Soros. I don't know that I've realized that that is a popular line. And I realized that that does happen. I think that happened a lot in Madison during at ten. I don't I don't know. And maybe yes investigative reporters could figure that out. I I'm not about to say that what we're seeing on the steps of the supreme court, which are going to be becoming more chaotic by the moment. It would appear are all paid protesters. This is such a this is such a passionate topic, and it emits such emotion from people because of how truly close it hits. How close to home it hits that elicits raw emotion? And I don't know how much of it is is manifested or paid for four fifty three Scott Boris WTMJ. Two guys that.

And I sit next to Greg Matzek during the games, and I looked to Greg and said, I have no clue what's going to happen here. I thought it would be a situation where they go knievel Sewri. Jeffress seven eight nine you get hater involved. I just didn't know what was going to happen. And I was surprised that they brought Canadian they're in the sixth inning.
