"Schilling, after the age of 34, won 22 games, 23 games, 21 games. The only reason they didn't win back to back Cy youngs is because he played on the same team with Randy Johnson, his playoff numbers are probably, if not the best of all time amongst the best of all time, he's 11 and two in the postseason as a starting pitcher with a 2.23 ERA. Yeah, I mean, he is the whole Famer. It's gotta be personal. Plain and yes, he's a Hall of Famer. Whether you agree with his politics, which I don't, but I have to look at him and having covered him. He's a Hall of Famer. That's it. It should just matter. Each sport is different. But, you know, this is a guy who was a World Series MVP. I saw it happen in front of me, whether it was in Philadelphia, whether it was with the Red Sox, whether it was with Arizona. He did it. Like him or not, but bonds and Clemens, I know that we try to make the same argument with Barry Bonds. He was a Hall of Famer before. Well, I have to look at the totality of your career. You were, but then you're not. Because you cheated. You know, that guy was as straight a student until he cheated. Was he still a straight a student? No, he cheated. Yeah, pulling. So this committee of 16 players included guys like Greg Maddux, Jack Morris ryne Sandberg Lee Smith. Frank Thomas, new genics, he brought some new jets for everyone. Let's go. Epstein was involved, Artie Moreno, et cetera, et cetera. So it's a combination of players, owners, GMs, meet and a few media people as well. Now this committee will meet again in 2025 to do this. It's like the overlooked committee to get people in the Hall of Fame who may be overlooked. So it's not an oversight committee. It's an overlook committee. Yeah. So three more years. And then are the same guys on this ballot? Yeah, the guys who didn't make it. So if you were bonds, Sosa or Clemens, you have three years to change their minds. And there should be no reason for the change in your mind. How do you change their mind? Well, that's what I was about to say. What if you went the other way and said, okay, I'm going to come out and say everything that I did and come out why I shouldn't have done it. I'm talking anyone bonds Sosa Clemens. And then maybe at the next vote, they'll take that into consideration. Because you have three years to do so. They want to hear that speculating. I'm expecting because otherwise why would this would mean that bonds Clemens are done forever? Well, it does feel like

"The pot peanut, I'm Rohan Knox and he joined yet again by my partner in crime, New York Times, bestselling author of the book, blood in the garden. He's a Sports Illustrated senior writer, my good friend Chris herring, Chris, how's it going my man? I'm good. I'm good. Good weekend. What about you? Could weekend man can't complain, went to a Dodgers game yesterday? Nice. Mistake. First of all, outdoor sports in the summer. What were we thinking with that one? It was so hot. Sitting in the outfield just baking in the sun all day, so sweaty. Baseball games, man. You know what's good about basketball? There's a clock, okay? You just tell you. Times sports fantastic. Man, it is hard at a baseball game, but I gotta say, something about a hot dog at a baseball game, you can't recreate that experience. Anywhere else. I'll give you that. As you were saying that, I was trying to find I was having this conversation with someone pretty recently about she was telling me she went to Cincinnati for a weekend, which is not the first place I think of. It's interesting. I was like, okay, and she was like, have you ever been? I was like, once, you know, obviously I've been to all the NBA cities. They don't have an MBA team. But I went there once when I was a kid, my dad drove me down there. I was a big Greg Maddux fan as a kid. Oh. I came up playing baseball. I played basketball two through halfway through high school, but I was more of a baseball player and played travel and stuff like that as a kid. But I was a big Greg Maddux fan. What did you pitch? I did pitch a little bit, but I was more, I was really, well, I was about to make a really big generalization I thought. I was really athletic relative to my teammates, okay? Okay, so after a while, especially as I got older, I was more of an outfielder because I could get to a lot of stuff that other people couldn't, but big Maddox fan and so my dad took me to Cincinnati to go see a braves reds game during the really racist Marge shot era, I think. But the day we went, it was a Sunday, Greg max was pitching.

"Continuously refining it and I think that's what, you know, in my case, pushes pushes me to stay relevant at the major league level and have success. I think that all of our listeners will be familiar with your story and how changing the utilization of your curveball really unlock things once you came back from indie ball. I wonder if as you look back on your career and some of the people and pitchers who you came up with if there are guys who you can think of who might have had very different careers if we had known now what if we had known then what we know now about pitching development and analytics or their guys who you think might have had a successful career either because they had traits that we didn't know to value then or didn't know how to unlock. Yeah, no, absolutely. I think that with the ability to measure, like I said, movement on a pitch, instead of just looking at straight velocity, you can find the value of what that picture can potentially do at the major league level. Because of the ability to measure what they what we see on a radar gun might doesn't tell the cell even the full story as we know now, but that's what was basically the main tool back in pre 2000 12 or 2015. But yeah, I think that there were a lot of guys that, you know, for whatever reason, got overlooked and didn't get the opportunity to get to the big leagues and had very successful careers in the minor leagues, but for whatever reason, just never got the opportunity to prove it at the major league level. And then, of course, if some did their leash to have failure was very short. So, and again, you know, at the end of the day, it comes down to the player because you have to continue to keep fighting and keep trying to find a way to make it work. And be successful at the level that you're at, first of all, but then with that goal in mind of playing in the big leagues and playing at the highest level, the failures and the ups and downs or the DSA's or whatever it is. Just really reinforces how badly you want to continue to pursue the goal of pitching at the major league level and being successful. But definitely guys were overlooked and fortunate with obviously the measurement tools that are in the game right now, but I don't think the other side of it too is being able to measure everything, doesn't necessarily mean it has to be measured. Sure. And I think, you know, we got to look at the game and it's starting to come back towards the middle. I think next year we're going to see a little bit of a design change on the shifting that's been happening. I think to open up the offense a little bit more in the game and then also being able to strategically come back to the hit and run, sacrifice funds, sac flies, playing the game almost the station station game as opposed to home run Derby. That to me is a much more exciting game when guys are hitting double triples as opposed to the occasional home run mixed in is great, but I think what we've seen over the last 5 years with the baseballs being much more jumpy than they've been. It's not as appealing, I think, is Major League Baseball thought it would be. So with all that, I think we're going to end up back somewhere in the middle. And I can see it. I can see it slowly going that way. But yeah, back to the back to the original question. Definitely guys were oral reluctant. Hopefully now, you know, with the tools that we can measure, you know, if a guy has a blow average fastball, so to speak on a radar gun, but as, you know, great vertical movement and is proving to have a lot of swing and miss in there. We now know why, as opposed to before. It would always be, well, I don't think it's going to work at the next level. Well, I don't think it's going to be quite enough velocity on the fastball or that curve ball. I don't know if the curve. We never talked about mirroring pitches before. But we would talk about maybe not using the term mirroring, but having a lot of the same slot and having having your pitches come out of the same Greg Maddux would describe it as like squares behind if the hitter is looking at the picture, you have a whole sequence of squares behind you. And you can have your hand coming out of the same square with every pitch, the same thing as mirroring, but it was just kind of coined differently. So yeah, but the measurement tools are great. I think we need to look at it for what it is, but then also the other side of it, you know, is the performance based mentality that comes into playing, which you can't necessarily measure, which is something. I know, or I at least I've heard teens are trying to figure out and put a number on the intent. The intent behind the player because you can't measure intent, you don't know what a person's intent is or what their level of want when they're in certain situations or during the game or the course of the season. So I think that's the next big step if clubs can measure that. I think it's going to really change the way we look at players. So we've been talking about this total revolution that has happened in pitch design and just the amount of information that is available about pitching and just the resulting increase in stuff and I think maybe the average velocity is up about 3 mph since you first entered the league. So how is it possible that all of that has gone on, everything has changed the stuff has really ramped up.

"The mailbox to write a little letter. I'm on mail it to my local DJ, and we start with an actual letter. I love it when people take the time and trouble to, uh, sit down and write a letter. This one was addressed to me and also Jr Land Decker, WGN Radio three Oh, three, East Wacker 18th Floor, Chicago six or 601, and the note is from downstate El Paso J. Says, Hi Bob and John, Your names are in lights in Springfield, Not on the marquee. Though. It's part of an exhibit that runs through January. You put on a headset and walk around. The various stations that give a history of the various genres to have emerged in Illinois musically. This is interesting. It's called and he sends me a flyer. The state of sound a world of music from Illinois and J writes, Um I think it would be worth the drive. There's even a mention of super CFL. And other stations. Uh, I have to rate Fred Winston is my favorite Jack or possibly Larry Lujack. Regardless. You fellas were both faves. Boogie check who are, uh, that ain't no BS, Uh, By the way, the exhibit is at the Lincoln Museum. Well, thanks. We'll have to check that out for sure. And a number of, uh, responses to our chat with Dr Aileen Marty Yesterday, Bob, my daughter and her three friends attended a small event in Wisconsin on Sunday. All our double vaccinated. Three of the four ended up covid positive. By Tuesday morning. All three showed mild symptoms and felt 100% by Friday, but all are still quarantining for 10 Days. Three out of four is pretty odd, Don't you think? Yes, but you know what? We're hearing stories like that a lot these days. Here's another one on that topic. I would appreciate it some morning if Dr Marty would speak to the challenges the Covid patients in the ICU face after they leave the ICU if they're fortunate enough to survive. I believe there is a misperception that after leaving the hospital, the survivors are able to resume their life exactly as it was before they had covid. My understanding is many people may need months of physical therapy in order to walk again, and some people may not be well enough to work again for a long time, if ever I'm happy to share that message because it's another reason to get vaccinated. Don't be an idiot. And our discussion about VHS tapes yesterday and having them digitized and it can get expensive. Now somebody points out that there is a divisive best buy that you can buy and easily connect. Any Arcia cables to an H D. M. I connection so you could make that transfer yourself, I guess and more I know what this is. Do you remember a few weeks ago? Uh, we suggested Or I suggested that we have Dr Marty an for an hour instead of like, you know, 10 minutes or something. Yeah, I guess A number of people agree. Um, let's see. What do I do with those doctor? Marty for an hour? I'm in on that. Yes, please schedule Doctor Marty for one hour. Um good morning. Yes. Please have Dr Marty on your show for the hour. So many people will benefit the first hour could assist thousands of people that only have time to listen to your show at this time. Well, we get ready for work or while driving in. I'm aware that this message can represent thousands of requests. Thank you for everything you do for your audience. The staff at WGN has always been top shelf. Good day and be safe. Well, we appreciate that. Vote for five until nine for Dr Marty. I think that would be sufficient to cover all the necessary topics and Dave member yesterday we were talking about Greg Maddux and his number 31 flying on. I said the roof of Wrigley Field, but There is a number 31 there. There are 21 for Fergie, one from Maddox, and they're on the foul poles. As somebody pointed out, Okay, I thought you I thought that's what you said. But I know I I didn't and also regarding what we said about Pete Rose. Letting Rose in the Hall of Fame would condone betting on games that you are in that would kill the integrity of the game. Plus, they gave him a chance to come clean and he lied right to the commissioner's face. No hall for him. Okay, we We disagree, don't we? At this point, we've We've both changed. Mellowed. Yeah. Me too. Uh, I don't see something else I wanted to share here. Oh, yeah. You know what? We'll let me read this. Bob. It is rude and insensitive of you to call mental health counselor shrinks you are behind the times. And your response is still making a joke of it. Shame on you. You want to say that away from the microphone? Fine. Mental illness is a brain malfunction. The brain is an organ of the body. Same as the heart and lungs. Do we make fun of heart disease or lung disease? I hope you rethink your words in the future Words do matter. I'm a mom of a son who has mental health issues. He's worked very hard to help himself. I'm lucky is a success story. Some are not so successful. Listen. I know all about mental health problems. I've had to deal with that in my family. And just the other morning. Uh, we talked to somebody on the phone. Remember the guy who was on his way to a methadone clinic? And we talked about that issue and how great it is to go public and erase the stigma. Which is why I am not embarrassed to tell you That I have asked my shrink if he minds being called to shrink, and he just laughed. And he said, Of course not. So I'll just leave it at that 8 47..

"The all time leader among pitchers in wins above replacement. Sei-yung greg maddux roger clemens or walter. Johnson well got taylor. Todd always always bring the thunder with these questions. Go gregory matic's you know. Here's the thing is at todd has been lecturing me in recent weeks. Like don't over think get tokai. Don't over thank you have a situation here where you have walter johnson head over four hundred career. Victories and cy young has almost a hundred more. Wins than that. Okay these were back in the days. When guys would throw both ends of doubleheaders the number the guy who would seem to be the obvious choice should be the guy with five hundred. Eleven wins who the pitching award is named for in cy young. That's my instincts. Because he just pitched so much more than anybody else. He probably had a chance to accumulate more numbers than anybody else. Nets on gone with cy young. Well once again buster you over thought speakers. The answer is walter johnson. You're both wrong walter. Johnson's wins above replacement. One sixty four point eight. Cy young very close behind one sixty three six. And then roger clements and then greg maddux so yeah. That's what we got while. Well i know someone who would have gotten that right. Tim coaching and went to walter. Johnson high school absolutely rockville maryland. Baby you know in halle berry. Go all right. Thanks for doing this. All right guys. thanks. Buster bleacher tweets..

"And f s one one hour from now highly anticipated first amendment to my nfl. Predictions i get to just to every year and laid out entire playoff format every division and two days. Ihs tweak tweak tweak and i have let me count real quickly joy hold on one two three four five six seven eight nine ten tweaks. Wow let a lot of tweaking. Well you know what i feel like your first week usually is pretty extensive and then the last one. The final is almost an injury. One right if somebody gets hurt. Yes yeah so. It's great to have you in today. You look so summary and look happy and is joy. We've talked about this when a story gets out it only gets out for one reason politics sports business. It gets out for a reason. Somebody wants it out. There's been a lot of stories that you read a book about later. And you're like i hear about that because nobody wanted to store relieved right so people can keep secrets right. We all know you have something in your life that you'll never let out. I've got a couple joys perfect so she didn't have any but the point is we all have secrets we don't let out so when stuff gets out somebody wanted it out. Sources in new england saying there's a level of frustration internally with cam newton. It is open the window from jones. They want that out there. New england wants that out there. You know why knowing wants it out there because when they move off cam. Hey we gave them a chance. Cove last year cova situation this year little protection lynn sheri- when they move off cam players in the locker room players around the league. No well i mean two different times with kovin kadett. Now he's gonna miss practice. That gets out. Can somebody wants and by the way we can blame whoever you want. I'm not into the blame game but this stuff doesn't happen to russell. Wilson doesn't didn't happen to brady didn't happen mahomes. We've all had a friend that struggles to get out of their own way. Sometimes cam struggles out of his way. And i've been critical of cam for years. I've said i like my presidents to be presidential light mcchord or backstage quarterback. He'll grownups adult focused. Self reliance self motivated coachable. There certain traits. Forget all the athletes stuff there. Just certain traits. I'm looking for president. Emma quarterbacks sometimes cam's not always great with those and that's led to eroding mechanics. Lack of efficiency inconsistent production week-to-week. Half the half. you don't know what they get. And here's the issue. You know how. I do that segment every monday. Called collin collin wrong. I think the right is take i've ever had is that cam and russell westbrook would age poorly an age quickly. Cam is now thirty two. He feels like he's inches from out of the league. Russell wilson thirty two and feel like. He entered his prime russell. Wilson has better quarterback he'll traits maturity constantly working on mechanics uber focused by the way russell westbrook thirty to four team. Fourth year steph. Curry thirty three just signed a mac contract and there was an argument to me made. He should have been the most valuable player. How you age depends a lot on your traits. Brady has aged gracefully breeze aged gracefully kareem abdul-jabbar age gracefully. Greg maddux never reliant on just sheer talent. He was a professional pitcher painting. The corners greg matic's age gracefully ray allen's a basketball player just kept working on his skills like legendarily the best cardio performer in the league. Ray allen like could just run for miles he kept tweaking in tweaking and tweaking game modernizing his game and so when westbrook cam were in their athletic hyper athletic prime. They just blow through their inefficiencies. I mean that'd be nice with westbrook. You're like god. He can't shoot. He finished with thirty six. How's that possible. Because he was westbrook. He was the best athlete in the league. There would be games with cam. You're like he completed fifty two percent of his throws. How did the win. Because he was cammie was six six. He'd run over people. He had one hundred and forty. Two yard rushing but as they have aged and dipped athletically. Now you just get their inefficiency. That's all you get. They can't just blow through it. That's why lebron has been so smart about this. Lebron realized after about year seven year eight. I'm going to get a jumper. I don't wanna go to the rim. All the time and lebron has brilliantly aged. he's just added dimensions to his game. That's why lebron is aging. Well as his body is falling apart. Now lebron get hurt but he is still a brilliant basketball player because passing never erodes. Ballhandling doesn't erode leadership doesn't erode mechanics. Don't have to erode. Shooting doesn't have to erode. I mean dan marino could still grab a football and sling it forty five yards. What erodes is your vertical. Your speed your athleticism your ability to get hurt and be back on the field in a week and so this story is out because somebody wants it out. And i'm not here to blame anybody but cam has had a career or not getting out of his own way sometimes. Westbrook similarly hyper athletic. Can't get out of his way sometime. And i look at this story with cam and it's out there for a reason. They wanted out there and mack jones listen. Success in life is often born of opportunities. mack. Jones may have just gotten a terrific opportunity with the best coach arguably the best offensive coordinator a top three offensive line. A really good running game and a top ten defense born of opportunities. Maybe mac and cheese got one all right so. I watched jacksonville last night. The what was emitting from. My television was pretty. Honestly the worst. Football team in the league the worst roster jacksonville's awful and i know urban meyer and i like him but the offensive line is awful. The defensive line is awful. They don't have a single defensive star. Miles jack is good not elite. They've got some wide receiver running back talent that i'm interested in but this league is not about perimeter stuff the reason the cleveland browns are good this year. They're offensive line's great and they have myles garrett. Oh bj will not be as important as that offensive line. And you can't name for the. Jags are trying to mesh their college offense with urban meyer and their pro offense. And they didn't build the best offensive. Staff daryl bevill and brian schottenheimer bounce around the nfl guys. That have been fired multiple times. First thing i would do. I would trade gardner minhsiu tomorrow and get a starter on the offensive line or trevor. Lawrence is going to be in big trouble. Listen there are two types of rebuilds in in sports. There's the long rebuild. And then there's the short rebuilt and i'll give you. Miami is a short rebuild. Why is miami short rebuild because they had commodities to sell minkah.

Sports radio and f s one one hour from now the highly anticipated first amendment to my nfl predictions. I get to just to july every year and laid out entire playoff format every division two days. I just tweak. And i have let me count real quickly. Joy hold on one two three four five six seven eight nine ten tweaks. Wow that's a lot of tweaking. Well you know what i feel like your first week usually is pretty extensive and then the last one the final one is almost an injury. One right like if somebody gets hurt. Yes yeah so. It's great to have you in today. You look so summary and happy and it is so i you know joy. We've talked about this when a story get out. It only gets out for one reason. Be it politics sports business. It gets out for a reason. Somebody wants it out. There's been a lot of stories that you read a book about later. And you're like i hear about that because nobody wanted the story to be leagues right. So people can keep secrets right. We all know you have something in your life that you'll never let out. I've got a couple joys perfect so she didn't have any but the point is we all have secrets we don't let out so when stuff gets out somebody wanted it out. Sources in new england saying there's a level of frustration internally with cam newton. It is opened the window for mac jones. They want that out there. New england wants that out there. You know why knowing england wants it out there because when they move off cam hey we gave them a chance cova last year cova situation this year low protection little insurance so when they move off cam players in the locker room players around the league. No well i mean two different times with kovin kadett. Now he's gonna miss practice. That gets out somebody wants and by the way we can blame whoever you want. I'm not into the blame game but this stuff doesn't happen. Russell wilson. it didn't happen to brady napna mahomes. We've all had a friend that struggles to get out of their own way. Sometimes cam struggles to get out of his own way. And i've been critical of cam for years. I've said i like my presence to be presidential. Light mccarter bax to be quarterback. He'll grownups adult focused. Self reliance self motivated coach. There are certain traits. Forget all the athletic stuff there. Just certain traits. I'm looking for a president. Emma quarterbacks and sometimes cam's not always great with those and that's led to eroding mechanics. Lack of efficiency inconsistent production week-to-week half. You don't know what they get. And here's the issue. You know how. I do that segment. Every monday called colin right colin wrong. I think the right is take i've ever had is that cam and russell westbrook would age poorly an age quickly. Cam is now thirty two. He feels like he's inches from out of the league. Russell wilson's thirty two. And i feel like he just entered his prime russell. Wilson has better quarterback he'll traits maturity constantly working on mechanics uber focused by the way russell westbrook thirty two fourth team. Fourth year steph curry thirty three just signed the contract and there was an argument to me made. He should have been the most valuable player. How you age depends a lot on your traits. Brady has aged gracefully breeze aged gracefully kareem abdul-jabbar age gracefully. Greg maddux never reliant on just sheer talent. He was a professional pitcher painting. The corners greg maddux age gracefully ray allen's a basketball player just kept working on his skills like legendarily the best cardio performer in the league. Ray allen like could just run for miles he kept tweaking in tweaking and tweaking his game modernizing his game and so when westbrook and cam were in their athletic hyper athletic prime. They just blow through their inefficiencies. I mean there'd be nights with westbrook. You're like god he can't shoot. He finished with thirty six. How's that possible. Because he was westbrook. He was the best athlete. Nilly there would be games with cam. You're like he completed fifty two percent of his throws. How did the win. 'cause he was cam six six he'd run over one hundred. Forty two yards rushing but as they have aged and dip athletically. Now you just get their inefficiency. All you get the can't just blow through it. That's why lebron has been so smart about this. Lebron realized after about year seven year eight. I'm going to get a jumper. I.

"With like the flexibility of whatever they can do the way they hide it and the way that it just suddenly jumps off his hand. When i you know early in his career i thought it was the hair like. He's hiding so that sampson but he cut the hair. And he still has dominance dominator. Gromit got better. He got he got better. You know a delightful the lovely. What's going to happen at this guy's career. I mean so this again. You know talking about the the hobby. There's a reason why pitchers don't have the same. You know love from collectors that that hitters do because the prevalence of injuries right and you know you take a risk right. Well any one of these guys named one. Pitcher hasn't had mr season these i guess. Top hasn't missile full season or more with some surgery or all of them blisters by the way. These doesn't bother you that it seems like more and more athletes are getting injured across all sports in a time when we know we have the best training techniques developed the best finest supplements and recovery tools and and the best understanding of kinesiology in the history of mankind. So i think that you want to know my theory on. I have one to yeah. I'd love to hear yours. Go here here is so. I'll tell you mine is that i think players and science is identifying where players should go in terms of how they play and how they're used at it's more specialized than it's ever been so they say you're the pitcher for the sixth and seventh inning. And you're not gonna do anything more than that so you don't have to build yourself up in such a way. It's not like a starter that they bring in. Or i mean i remember bruce suitor when we were a kid would relieve a an end to the game in the last three innings. He pitched the last three innings to get the save. When i talk about coming in for two outs three outs. Or whatever he pitched three whole innings for the save. It was almost as like he was a. He had the strength of starting pitcher. So when you specialize so hard. They're like go out there and throw it as hard as you possibly can. Whereas bruce suitor would say you know what. I got to conserve my strength. Because i might be in here for three innings. I'm not going to overthrow myself. And you see guys throwing their arms out and the way they throw a cross body. You just see them that. That's not something that can sustain itself and there was like a whole unreal sports about. I think what was the guy's name. Mike morgan the pitcher. Mike morgan Who was having guys practiced by throwing. They're like why do tennis players not get the rotator cuff the same thing because they do the same ocean as baseball players in swinging down when they serve but they don't have the same amount of rotator cuff injuries and tommy john surgeries and elbows in this that because they hold onto the rackets so like why. Don't we teach pitching where the guys hold onto the ball they throw in. Maybe the ball is attached to something. And you know what i mean. Basically you're holding onto something and like that's a way to strengthen that area and so they were teaching and it was working by like it was only accepted by a small group of people who wasn't like all major league baseball is accepting but if they keep seeing guys go down in the stars leo down and say. What's your interesting theory. i'm. I think it's the extra ten percent really. Yeah i mean all these athletes now are saying they gave one hundred ten percent. That is it one hundred percents enough. You're dealing with too much hundred. Keep it one hundred campaign. Keep him on a cost. One hundred save ten percent for tipping the clubhouse attendance. Thank they'll appreciate it. Just huge buckets of Chewing gum So let's so. Let's talk about the american league with the american league who who's emerging from the american league as far as you're concerned right now as we sit here on the second half of the season i mean is it. Do you see a team. Like tampa bay. Having bay bought the end or is this boston's a leak to lose corers. Come back Yeah i mean. Bought boston tampa new york new york. I still feel like has realize elaine lane and you can't count the yankees out. I think you can in certain ways. Ov- it is to count. i'm like what is jean carlos. What is his identity. Used to be a guy just got up and you feared him. I'm like what is he now. What please tell me what he is. He's autism strong. You know another guy is like baseball. Raw he's like the rock in baseball Essentially the the or sylvester stallone in the expendable. He's basically expendable is what he's saying all some weird way. I don't know if the yankees are. I really don't know i really don't think that as like teams like that houston is going to winston. Yeah there for me. Houston's in i in altuve as hidden multiple home run gain ripped off his shirt and one game and there was no sound device underneath shocking. That we found that. That's a guy who you say. Obviously stature wise doesn't match you know like what is he doing. What is he doing vie for five five doing that stuff. Come on and he got just a more compact swing. The mess got a big bat. He's got a big bad any brand. Maybe can just turn his wrists in a way that none of us the rest of us. Can't i'm trying to think of comps. Fernando vina holiday. Vidrio your yeah. He's a polytech. Glenn hubbard eddie sanchez. Yeah you some of these guys can just turn on and they have their. They're just it's the wrist is really. Is the wrist action. Like you don't have to be a hulking bulking guy to to crush the ball and i it's baseball is one of those portraits all about the mechanics. It's is so important in the fluidity of that. And if you can tap into that and why you know why you have these unexpected heroes. That could that can you watching hendrix pitch last night for the cubs in sutcliffe said. Look i'm not saying he's this guy so everybody's shut up before it wasn't suck live it here but he was referenced by carl ravage said. He's not as i'm not saying he's this guy. Nobody get on me for this. But he's the closest thing i've seen to greg maddux since greg maddux meaning he had everybody off the wrong foot the way he was throwing eighty miles an hour. Eighty seven was his fastball. And he just you know we're we're watching guys. Come in and throw triple digits on this thing and you get ready for that as a hitter so much. You're only prepared to hit something. That's coming that fast. That when some guy throw super slow and changes up to eighty seventy seven. Eighty seven eighty nine. You don't know how to handle that. It's so great manage like it. Looks like an assistant librarian. Those early nineties with the glasses like this again baseball is this. I think the only sport where you can sort of a transcend the the mold of the typical athlete and succeed. I mean like steve. Balboni comes to mind bob. Hamlyn these guys with hani gwen legit haunts we are. It's unfair to say fat now. That's not a tony. Gwen was hefty husky. A morbidly obese sadly. But but the thing is. That's what i love about baseball. Someone who is not a prototypical gifted athlete would that stature growing up. I sort of thought i can succeed in the sport because guys like garcia para. Would that face can make it took quote trans the the tv show transparent. The schnauzer. sunette guy won't like a janas entity cuco is. Looks like he is superman. A greek statue right. And you have to you tonight. Howard superman i mean. Look at these guys. The way they're built we we call them. Brian brandon yes And football you can't be You know how many rudy's are there really and the guy what gone to one game. Good for you buddy wasn't even that was even that good. Good sean astin green baseball's the only one accelerate democratizing that way talking about brian austin. Green right. John astin sean. I call them show in green because he was like broadcasted mart smart Last question about the. Because i have the i questioned about nfc's and just like 'cause. I don't fully understand but like if you can just real briefly talk about just the insane nature of where we heading within. Nfc laid into our our fans in. They don't know by now. I mean stop doing so may not know honestly happened so fast that it's not safe for work right and fw.

Navy seals are like up there with like the people where you're like that guy's navy seal don't effort that dude you know what i'm saying like i there's no challenging anybody. Who's done that work or done to that training. That is truly impressive. "That what. What's your point. My point is that if we're not seeing control than the rpm the sticky. I'm saying the sticky shit helps the control as just as much as it does. The and the and the. Yes the spin of the speed and to me when i'm looking at the way garrett cole is i rather have have let i'd rather him have less spin rate on his ball and control still pitcher if you if you could give me one or the other. But the control to me is a bigger issue short and cone. I don't know how you that that is something. That's a feel thing like that. That is a direct result of getting a better stickier grip on a ball. You can throw darts. You could throw darts easier when that ball is coming out of your fingers in a more controlled way and that's a problem. That's a really really big problem because that's not going to be solved. I don't care how many mechanics you look at. You have to get a better feel for the ball. You have to just get that fuel back like there's not time for that in the middle of the season so is this just. Let's wait until baseball. Stops checking them every inning and hope that he can hudson sticky stuff in his belt. Always gotta figure some shit out figure shit out figure some shit out him and chat to figure some shit out got it. I thought cohn has had some good thoughts on the matter on On the game broadcast and he he he said to your point. It's control is more important to a pitcher than spin. Rate helps obviously spend healthy. Look greg maddux. I mean greg. Maddux threw ninety miles an hour spin right obviously and in what spin rate.

"That? Okay. I'm sure that chip carry on the way home realized that what he said made no sense at all. Because there are a million guys, not a million. Maybe. But there are a ton of guys who played the major league baseball whose last name I did it X like Greg Maddux and Mike Maddux, Sandy Colfax. There's Wilcox there, Steve Sax. There's Knicks. There's Gavin Lux. There's Nellie Fox. There's a lot of guys whose last name ended X. He's not the only major leaguer in baseball history that And with the letter X That was, uh, that was interesting from a chip Carey and yes, he was. You know what he's still doing games still doing games for? You know, the the Braves. And that's great. I catch a game every once in a while because you've got the extra innings package and you hear Chip Carey doing a game, But I'll be interested to see what he's got to come back and talk about that because he is so far off on that one. Let's go to well Matt and Steve Steve. What's up? Hey, for I love the show. Thank you. You're welcome. Jeff. Joanie at combat. Those games is often love, watching or listening to him, which I wish we could get him on. You know, regular air so we can hear them while watching the game. Yeah, you got if you want to do it, you've got to just sync up your TV with the radio and somehow do it. I do it. I do it during the football season like I've known Jeff since he got out of college, and he's great. There's nobody that works as hard as him. Once the season starts. You can't call him because he's like so into everything is doing his preparation and everything else and, Yeah, it's the most. It's so important to him besides it. Besides his two daughters, it's the most important thing to him. That's awesome. Thanks for taking my call. Fred. You're welcome, Steve. Yes, Jeff is a great guy. I've known what you said. He got out of Iowa State, and he came and worked with us a sports phone. And so I'm no Jeff forever and he worked very, very hard. And I give him some constructive criticism. Sometimes that I don't that he doesn't call me for a while. I don't know. I don't know why I never understood that. Uh, let's go to Woodstock and Mike. Mike, you're on ESPN. 1001 of my favorite ones is Joe McConnell. And he is the bears. Yep. A lot. A lot of people love McConnell. He was so it was funny because his broadcast was like so matter of fact, Lee, but he always got you. Everything got you all the details all the information he called when, when Peyton went over and set the rushing record and everything some great great stuff. They had great announcers with him. And he also he also did White Sox baseball too. Yes, he did. Yes, he did Remember that there are so many of them. Mike Appreciate the call. So many of these great announcers here in Chicago and it was cool listening to your opinions on some of these great announcers in your favorite announcers, everybody, You know, we're all ages. When we listen to sports radio here we've got we've got the young guys. We had a guy the other day, so it was like 20. He's listening. And then we've got the guys like, you know, uh, Ride the South side. You know, 57 years are born in 57 the same age as me at 64. So, yeah. You got all different kinds. We've listened to so many different people. Phil Rosenthal's leaving the Tribune and a lot of people, the tribunal leaving taking buyouts or whatever. He wrote an article today The headline is rare Flooding moment. Huge mistake doesn't take away too much from historic no hitter call of the Cubs. So I'm gonna I'm gonna mention it because it's written down here. I'm going to mention how the call went. Okay. Cubs fans are standing at Dodger Stadium. Kimbrel always look composed. The batter is AJ Pollock Pollock over three right handed hitting outfielder. In fact. Now even Dodgers fans start to stand. Kimbrel's pitched apologize swing and a miss of vanishing slider that ended up down near the ankles. Kimbrel bends over at the waist. Right elbow sticking out to the side and an old one pitch to Pollock Strike two called the Dodgers now down to their last strike Dodgers without a hit to down bottom of the ninth inning, Kimbrel is ready and the 02 swinging them as the Cubs have done it a combined no hitter for the first time in the long legendary history of the Chicago Cubs. That's the way the broadcast sounded on radio, Okay, and then Phil Rosenthal points out. The problem was it wasn't Pollock, whom Kimbrel struck out on the three pitches. Here's what happened. Paula came out of the game in the top of the eighth inning, replaced in left field. By Steven Souza. When the Dodgers relieved Garrett Clevant, your substituted for Phil Bickford. So Souza led off the bottom of the eighth with Kleven. You're set to bat with two down and went out in the ninth. Smith pinch hit in Pollock spot And Pat Hughes ever. The professional said no excuses. I thought it was a J. Pollock. It was will Smith. You're right. I do. Try to take pride on getting everything is precise and correct as they possibly can. But I was joking to myself saying, Boy, That's how good Kimbrel stuff was. He even fan me. So Announcer's make mistakes, and it's even worse when you're not at the ballpark, and it's easy in baseball. When you're making switches, double switches. All of a sudden, there's a guy coming to play in the ninth inning. It was somebody else. There's someone pinch hitting. You may have missed it with all the excitement building. And But the nice part is For decades, people will hear Pat Hughes call, and he did not mention it at the last pitch. He did not mention who the batter was. He just mentioned what happened. So when we talk about favorite radio Baseball announcers. Pat Hughes is definitely on my list because I've loved for the longest time listening, uh, to him, do the games and yes, we are the home of white sax baseball. But we also talk white socks and cubs all the time. So I'm not in front of a TV and the whites action not playing like last night when I'm leaving. Soldier Field and the Chicago Fire game. I'm listening to their call, and I heard I heard Cody Bollinger go deep. That's how the game ended. We come back. We've got some. I'll talk about what happened and how I lost money yesterday, even though what I picked came true. We'll explain that. Take your calls. 3123323776 white sax baseball today. Here on ESPN. They're going to finish up the suspended game, then play the regularly scheduled game. We've got all the action for you, beginning with a pre game at 12 30 here on ESPN with houses and don't forget you can also hear.

"Well, it is made baseball our second month of the season coming up as we start the giant's clues last night 62. They will face Joe must, Grove today it is Kevin Gausman and Joe must, Grove Gausman the pitching great for the Giants and must grow head that no hitter for the Padres. So interesting matchup today. Good morning, Bruce Jenkins. How are you? Doing well, Marty, how's it going? Good. This is an interesting matchup today was just announced. They guess that Must. Grove is pitching for the Padres today against Gausman. This is a nice Sunday. You know, I love Sunday baseball. Let me digress for a second. I love Sunday baseball. It's the aces would go on Sunday, and we kind of have that game today. Yeah, definitely it Z two guys, you take no hit stuff out there, which we've seen from muscular of, literally and You know, a guardsman Splitter has been the talk of the talk of the National League. So yeah, I mean, and of course, it'll be 98 in the third. Really? It's the truth, isn't it? But I will say this about baseball yesterday. 15 games. There were 41 home runs yesterday, and they averaged 11.3 runs per game. This is a big deal, and they slugged 4 17 yesterday. Now I know we go back and forth in this state of baseball. But yesterday, I think was a good example not a lot of batting average 2 52, but 41 home runs led to 11.3 runs per game. The home run is still the prevalent way to score. Yeah, you know that It's going to stay that way for a while. I mean it Zhar to say that home run is who's worse? Hell than anything, Although, you know, we'd like to see a little bit of balance, but you know, the thing is, you know, we get upset with the trends. And there are weeks where it looks like cheese. You know, everybody striking out and no none that runs or scoring and all that and then then you get another week where they kind of changes. So I mean, There's there's no absolutes in the game with this, which is why we love it. You know, it's Ah, He really can't forecast. What's going to be coming down the road on, you know, thank goodness. It would be kind of tedious if that were the case. What do you think of Blake Snow last night? Well, he you know, it's typical black still had really good stuff. And it was a frustrating doubting, you know, I mean, he would have got to be the fourth and the fifth when you know he's been so frustrated about being taken Isaac and C T through some great pitches, but He t through too many pitches. I was more impressed with this look funny. I mean, she's Ah, He hangs the curved in the shadow in the first inning, and he's a three run homer. He hangs a slider to Tommy family almost knocked down the left field wall on the second inning. I'm taking man. He just He just doesn't have it. But all of a sudden You know, he throws a much better breaking ball against Machado and the third grounds out. Hey, was still in there in the six and he got Battista tap one back just off the mound. He makes a nice play. So that was really encouraging. And especially, I loved how Ah Pepper. Let this was funny hit for himself when they're down 3 to 1 in the fifth. He was over 12 at the time on the season, but he works the count to three and two and stings the ball up the middle. Goes off the pitcher, and and I guess they called it an error. But e. I love that. Because Coco a caper, They don't even acknowledge it. Who goes? Well, I'm not changing it. They got their own score cards that they keep tracking. That's a hit that Z. I'm not changing it. I don't care what they call a love. That was ridiculous. One off snows leg and the second day Cronin worth came in and couldn't handle it. And that was it. Full speed. And they gave the guy gave his question was really hit hard, mean good for additional funny there, so Yeah, he He came out of it a lot better than snow. I think even though the score board, you know, said differently in the end. Yeah, they're gonna need Snell at some point. Ah, in this in this pennant race, and Bruce, you know, this was not a Let's take him out in the fifth inning. You know this and that He deserved to be taken out and you got to that fourth of fifth. Then he looked like a different picture. His stuff is great, but his stuff is all over the place. He does know where it's going, and that gets him into trouble. Yeah, I don't know if he's a Greg Maddux kind of thinking man's picture out there, but, uh, they're gonna need to him. We're gonna need him to beat the Dodgers with seven innings and you know he's gonna leave the game. He's up 3 to 1 after seven. You know that. That's what they need from him. They don't need any of this mid game departure stuff. I mean, they've got a heck of a bullpen. I mean, my goodness. Uh, it was it. Adams and and Pagon strike out the side, each of them in the 7th and 8th. And then the Lance. They got Milan send it to finish the games when they and with that bizarre stuff. He's throwing up there, and they have Palmer and so it's not that they're hurting in the bullpen at all, but it's just common sense that a guy with that kind of stuff gets ah, a little more rope, but he's gotta deserve it. He's gotta earn it. Giants still in first place. The Dodgers lost a crazy game last night. Two in the top of the Elevens and Birds came back with three to win the game. But the big news is and Roger. Is there trouble? Bruce. These injuries are starting to mount up for them. Now it's it's very early in the season, but Dustin May left last night. He's gonna get an M r I tomorrow and they've already Purchased the contract of former giant Might kick. Um uh, just lose. Dustin may. How about that? Yeah, Well, I could be. William VanLandingham could be worse. That butt kicked him. Yeah, I refuse to say they're in trouble. Although they're all the signs were there. I just think at the end of the month and might look different, but you know that things are adding up against and they're not hitting in the clutch. They don't really have their closing relief completely settled yet. Um some of the big names aren't hitting and then you know the injuries. You say that you know that That's the maid that Z not that's not a good one. He's got phenomenal stuff, and he looked pretty good last night, but you could tell Before that before he had to leave..

We promise it hasn't NFA me promises and Has an NFL time promises says and an offsides Johnny Manziel's really pissing me off. Oh boy. Is he ever I saw this and I was like, oh and we'll get it done that. Okay, let's start our NFL Orthodontics news with this story. Even with the actual entire hell is the story. This is I don't even understand people. Okay. So Jack Lambert, he was a middle linebacker for the Steelers. He won four Super Bowls 9 Pro bowls. He was on I mean this guy's kind of a big deal, right? Okay, so he needs to apply himself more as what you're saying. Yeah. She needs to really do something with his life. He's in the Hall of Fame. He's now 68 years old. Okay apparently decided that he was going to auction off some of his fine collectible items in his personal football collection. Okay, so Lot number 590 of the lelands spring classic collection. Okay includes the container that held Lambert's false teeth during games. The teeth are not included. Somebody actually paid off come out that there's no teeth include an amount to have the TV older of Jack Lambert between water has an opening bid of $300 and runs through April 2nd. So we don't exactly know how long this is going to go for but people are actually bidding on this Jasmine the team folder. Maybe this is a beauty 30 even included. Well, that's the one thing you're getting gypped. I want some teeth if I'm going to pull teeth holder, right? Well, maybe this person's just a big ol you know fan of Mister Lambert and it's like, you know, I get Steelers fans. I live with the Steelers fan. But yeah, but we were off. Go by somebody's teeth folder. Like he's a lifelong Cubs fan if Greg Maddux or already Banks had with you know auctioned off their job. I mean no. No, I mean I say no, I mean, who knows? Yeah, you're speaking for him. Number one. Maybe he does want their teeth. Maybe he wants to make a nice necklace out of out of their teeth don't know off me that's inspirational to some folks gross. So as far as the teeth holder goes maybe there is a huge fan of Mister Lambert who also needs a place to put their damn teeth and they're like, well two birds one stone not a huge fan. All right and identify here's my other thing. He played what when he was in his twenties, right he played for ten years for the Steelers. He had false teeth in his twenties. So how how hard are they getting hit back then with zero protection.
