"From my understanding is that tennessee slips some verbiage in his contract that dropped his bite out to fifty percent half of the buyout that he thought he was gonna have. They tried to sneak it in the back door when he wasn't looking and caught him off guard and he got a little pissed and said you know what i'm kudo ryan came back. Gave him what he wanted. And now he's going to be able to stay at a program is going to be relevant in college football playoff and not have to go down to a probation ridden. Sec team that hasn't really combined competitive. Since phil fulmer was head coach. So you got to look at the rest of the staff. Matt barnes gets promoted. And the only thing i'll say for defense. That was one hundred and twenty second and past events in america. Fifty nine thousand total defense gave up the eighty eighth most passing plays over ten yards. This defense needs an overhaul a revamp and ryan had an opportunity to do that with greg maddison retiring. He slides matt. Barnes into that role as the secondary coach kerry combs to be just more of a coordinator at allowing barnes to run the show in the back end. What will that mean. i would expect. That will mean changes in the defense philosophy. Not being so vanilla. Not being. So i guess unable to change and make adjustments and you've got to trust ryan day. That's the moral story. You have to trust ryan day. Then he slides poker fleming. Who was an off the field. A quality control special teams assistant at ohio. State i've known parker for a long time. One of the sharpest football coaches and most intelligent guys that i've been around. The reality is that he stay. One of the most innovative and detail oriented special teams groups in the united states of america. You're going to see an enhanced version of special teams reporter running the show. That's not a knock on matt barnes but parker is one of the best. I've ever been around so expect that to be through the roof. That's a great hire. We'll see about parker road recruiting. He's young guy he's worked hard. I liked the higher a lot but this defense staff has a lot of questions to answer. You can't beat one hundred. Twenty second pass divas in america and expect to win a championship a national championship at that. So we'll matt. Barnes be the answer. Will matt barnes be the answer. And we'll at washington have an increased role in this defense to i don't know blitz once in a while generate a pass rush put pressure on the quarterback. Don't leave the corners on an island leaving them high and dry. You make take sean wade a first round projection and make him look like a late round because we had no pressure on the quarterback. It's just time we'll tell obviously we'll know more through spring ball. But this was i would say a lack luster off season as far as enhancements and improvements to this defensive staff and the silver bullet defense. But we'll talk more about it as offseason continues to roll. Make sure you check out our live stream tonight. Seven o'clock livestream call.

"So I've, you know every day by the time, we get to this time of the show and a lot of interaction when people on Twitter for the most part most of the time probably not as positive as you would hope it depends on what I ask. But a couple of the crazy crazy talk or just. I just don't more ridiculous things one of them. And I won't say the person's name because I'm gonna because I mean there's conspiracy theories. And then there's like conspiracy theories. And so he said, I'm not totally convinced. He was responding to a comment. I made about Knicks article about the sixty two points given up with four guys that ran on her four or five in the forty or four six in the forty. He said, I'm not totally convinced the buckeyes didn't know what was coming. And by that. I mean, coach Madison and coach Washington just saying it's up for debate. When a deal was top two to three nationally for years. Get sixty two hung on them. There's more to this story conspiracy. So the implication is that going into the Michigan Ohio state game? Greg Mattison, an L Washington reached across. Called up Ryan day called up urban Meyer and said, hey. We're going to be coming to your school in in January. And we want to come to a winner. So were going to tell you how to beat Michigan's defense, and how are we gonna beat BT Dr defensive line linebackers? We want you poor sixty two. On michigan. So when I say there's a difference between a conspiracy theory. And and whatever that just was so I think that's the most ridiculous thing. I've read today. And I don't know do I don't even need to explain why this absurd. I just leave it alone. For me. This is just me. If it were me, I leave it alone. Well. On twitter. In alone on Twitter 'cause there's enough people. But like to explain in the in these last few minutes, why that is the most just the dumbest. And the fact that people actually believe this is what really really I don't know to do with it. When I come across tweets like this. I don't know what to do with it. When I come across people that ask me questions back in the preseason. Someone said we're doing an event at the Royal tap house. And he came up to me and said are you disappointed that we took shape Patterson this year because clearly Harbaugh can't develop his own quarterbacks. Like there are things that get bandied about that. I understand there's some maybe some mainstream media or maybe maybe more likely there's cult media or cult of Saxe colts out there. That that. Carry these narratives from one place to the other. But I don't know how someone is so stupid that they repeated and then ask it of someone who knows a damn thing. Like to pass on shape. Patterson back in in last offseason. When you when you just had the worst year of quarterback play other than the two thousand eight to pass on a guy who was a five started passing a guy that was a multi year started ole miss to pass on the guy with as much talent as him. When you didn't know what you had Bill McCaffrey. Didn't know what you had in Joe, Milton, right? You know, every like a hundred and twenty coaches in college football would have taken him, and the fact that Jim Harbaugh took him when he also took J crew sock is only the fact that he was trying to address a need. But every coach would've taken them. So I looked at the guy, and I just I said where do these questions come from where we're like who is out there that decides to to you know, which website which blog is out of that pushes this the Dan that gets enough of a following where people repeat it and to this to this common here. I've actually seen this comment before this idea that Greg Mattison and L Washington tipped off the buckeyes. Here's here's what's what's crazy about that is on November twenty fourth whatever day that they played urban Meyer had yet to announce to anybody that he was retiring, maybe there was some conversation behind the scenes, maybe Ryan day of told that this was coming but urban Meyer had not told his team and not told us coaches because he made it explicitly clear, and they even said that they found out after the big ten championship. So somehow he is going to without telling his players Tony coach. He is going to reach across the state line Intel, Greg, Madison and L Washington. I'm going to retire guys. Ryan days going to become the head coach, Ohio State and his first order of business is to hire the two of you. So that is crazy. Here's the second thing at this point. Michigan is ten and won the ranked in the top four in the country. If they beat Ohio State, they go to the big ten championship. They beat northwestern. They get to go to the college football playoff. Neither Greg Maddison nor L Washington has been to the college football playoff. Neither of them has won a big ten title in the current configuration of the big ten championship. You're telling me that coaches with that type of pride and that type of drive to be successful are going to sacrifice that for a team that they have no idea that they're going to be coaching for in six weeks. So that that team could hopefully win it's a win in study that you would not go to big ten championship because you're not working for Ohio State, and you will not go the couch while playoff because you're not working for Ohio State, and you're going to sacrifice your own like. In the moment, and what you're going to what you can put on your own resume and what you can accomplish the team to give that to the enemy. Like is that really what someone? Thanks. Some people. Do the truth is out there. Michael. No,.

"And take a look at Bill Cosby Chevy Bill van Chevy in selene Chevy drives the motor city. Thanks. This appreciates that like said the pistons have made in other trade their trading Stanley Johnson. Meanwhile, other breaking news art, Jay Hopson has doubled down on. If got. Yeah. I I remember I think Iran Sam kind of talked about it before they'd sign off on the show. But yeah, I did hear about the situation down in southern miss. Yes. Other mystery hops onto higher art Briars former Baylor coach to be as offensive coordinator, the university of president and the inner may d stepped in and said, no, that's not gonna happen. And so instead of just being like, okay, you know, where that's unfortunate or whatever that Jay Hopson comes out with this. Although I respect the decision of Dr Rodney Bennett, I disagree with it. I'm so grateful for the grace and forgiveness. God gives me which allows me to inherit his kingdom, which I do not deserve. I've interviewed art browse for an assistant position at southern miss. And I believe he is a man who deserves a second chance while that, you know, I can certainly understand the sentiment, especially if you are a, you know, if you consider yourself a forgiving person, you you know, you you believe in God. And the whole thing it's. It's it's just no like I mean, come on, man. The guy was it'd be like someone couple of years later being like, hey, we decided to hire Joe Paterno. You just can't you just can't these guys persona non grata for a reason. And and so Jay Hopson former Michigan linebackers coach under under which one was the under Brady Hoke rich rod one of the two doubling down and saying he would he still would like to have our browse on a staff just just move on from it. Jay, you're not gonna win this one just move on from it. All right are six on six continues here today. We'll stick with recruiting and asked this question. What do you make of the fact there's no Jim Harbaugh press conference today? There wasn't one in December for early signing period. There's no signing of the stars. Is this the the do more say less approach of Michigan football? Yeah. How convenient that the fans have decided that they they want everyone to say less because harbor is probably been sitting there like about time. They want me to say less. I know it's. It's whatever I mean. It's just how Jim Harbaugh does things unless someone contractually makes him talk. He's not going to talk. You know, I think the signing of the stars. I think he he thought maybe that could be this this big thing. But it's it's lots a lot to do. They know without necessarily tangible result of music gonna win recruits over I don't know. But then you have to like keep calling these guys every year. It's a it caused a stir. But I just don't know if those worth it. Press conference. I'll say this every every coach that I've come across because I follow a lot of beat writers that at different schools every coach I've come across is having a press conference today. Some are having a lot of Ville ability. Some are even calling into twenty four seven sports national signing day show. I think we have eleven power conference coaches calling in and the thing is that exposures not going to hurt them at all. In fact, it's it's probably going to help. So, you know, Michigan can do whatever it wants. But right now, there's a lot of rumors swirling about what happened with this coach leaving what happened with this player leaving what happened with this recruit. You know, if I think there's something to be said for dressing the public and in commenting on this stuff. I know some things you don't you don't necessarily get to give all the details of the Greg Madison story there Mari Patsy in story. But showing showing your side of things. Unless it's a bad side of things doesn't hurt in hiding from the media suggests that you have a reason to hide from the media. So I also love it. Honestly, it doesn't really make a difference. I'll say that. There was no press conference when they hired new coaches, right? I mean, there's comments from Jim Harbaugh on his attack each day podcast about Anthony camping alley which was just actually this past week about Josh Gad is Josh Gaddis appeared on that podcast. There's no comments one. Greg Maddison laughed. There's no comment on Chris Evans. There's no comments on you know, they can't really get into past kicks him. But as a can you could, you know? Just talk in generalities about it. There was no press conference about the with with Ben mcdaniels coming on. There's no press conference for signing day back in the summer. There's just no press conference. No press conference, no press conference. And honestly, it's utterly ridiculous. I mean, it really is. And and someone posted this on Twitter, which I agree with one hundred percent. And you know, people may may not love the media were in this really weird spot in our country where we've got politicians and people the top that are accusing the media being the enemy, which is which is just stupid. I mean, the media has always been the process always been part of the basis of our constitution, the basis of our Bill of rights, the free press that is there to hold people accountable, and you know, part of the checks and balances system, and the, you know, the the ability to bring what's happening. Whether it's in Washington or a public university, which the university of Michigan is and create that transparency, so people know what's going on and people can sit there and be like, well, what's big deal. He doesn't hold a press conference. But the more that you denied the media opportunity to meet with coaches, and to discuss things is the more that things happen where nobody knows what's going on and situations like Jerry Sandusky, and Larry Nassar, an art browse of Baylor in this whole thing's happened because there's no one to check the stuff that's going on, and they're not answering anybody, and that's a far far departure the whole thing. But it starts it's a slippery slope. When you deny the median opportunity to ask questions of what's going on behind the scenes, and I'm not comparing those two situations Michigan Jim Harbaugh, and I'm going to do press conference. But that's where it that's where it starts is. When you say the media is is we were not gonna talk to them that we're not gonna hold press conferences. The media's our enemy. We don't like them. I it's it's just it's just dumb. And as you said Zach mean, here's an opportunity for him to to promote his players to promote these these recruits that are signing every other institution is doing. Okay. Every other institution is doing it. Greg Madison is speaking to the media today as a member of the state coaching staff talking about why he left Michigan, Ohio state. Justin fields who is not part of this recruiting class is a transfer to Ohio State in Columbus talking to the media. This idea that somehow it's it's they need to go into a submarine to win football games. There are so many things that Michigan. Does that are just beyond dumb? I mean, it really is. Because it's not helping them win football games. Not having a spring game. Last year. Didn't help them beat Notre Dame. You know, not releasing a depth chart has not helped them win a single football game for for Michigan yet. There's there's all these things that you know, members of the media, and you can say what you want about. Also, we complain about this or that. But, you know, Michigan treats itself, it's Fort Knox. And it doesn't help him win football games in the least. It's a bad. Look when you're the only school in the big ten Alabama. Does it Clemson as everybody else? Does the the simple protocol that is expected in Michigan doesn't and there's really not a good reason not to and there might be some fans and say all the do more say lost. That's not what this is about. This is this isn't even close to that. Or people say, well, it's not his job to talk to the media is well, he's he's at a public institution and actually is part of his job. And it's in his contract. It's also in his contract to show up to the coaches show to show up to the IMG marketing coaches show. Yeah. And he doesn't go to it. So there's nobody that says. Tells him otherwise so you can you can love Jim Harbaugh. You can think that we're too hard on Jim Harbaugh. But my goodness. Like, it's a press conference show up for the fifteen minutes or the twelve minutes or eight minutes that you're there. And I mean for someone that is such an ambassador for his student athletes and for the and for the program if you wear the maize and blue it's it's amazing. How if you're part of the family, you're treated one way? And if you're not you're just you're completely discarded like you don't matter whatsoever. Well, and it's it's one of those things people have their weird opinions about the media. The fact is the media is the proxy to the public. We relay the information that the team shares in make it publicly available that is an in. So for Michigan to hide I am using the word hide. Because again every team does this is not like, it's not like all these other teams are decided not have now have an early signing day press conference not have. A signing day press conference, literally we're gonna go three months at least two months, possibly even three months without hearing from Jim Harbaugh, and and you know, you could say oh, yes the pike cast. But that's different. You know, it's a controlled environments IRA. But it's not like he's going to be pressing him on how he handled one situation or another. And and it's and it's his, and if he if I did, you know harbach and say, well, let's cut that part out or something of that nature as you said, it's a controlled environment. It's. It's really what it does is. It puts it puts the fan base at arm's length and what happens when you are arm's length. Is you don't care? I mean, basically Michigan is saying it doesn't really care that much about the fans. I mean, you might talk about the coaches show Brady Hoke used to go for the entire hour. He didn't just show up for his segment, and and take off you know, he would show up for the entire hour. He would meet people at pizza house. You know, he would he would chat things like that. And I know people didn't like the results Brady Hoke had. But you know, there are a lot of people who have those memories and who care about Michigan football because of how Brady Hoke approach things or how Loyd car approach things. I mean, what what was the longest reporters went without talking to Lloyd Carr. A during his tenure at Michigan. I would say probably just the standard of of. Let's say you you'd have all the fall probably the summer. I mean, probably the summer as long as you go is from spring from spring game until fall practice started in August. And that was that was the long as they would go. But there wasn't a there wasn't a d'aquin or trying to stay away from the media on purpose right conferences, the everyone else in the country did in the late hard. Didn't do. No. Yeah. And Bo the media was lot different back. Then there are a lot fewer reporters. There is a lot less demand for daily coverage. And I get why hard by doesn't necessarily want to talk to the media. You know, they took some ELS this winter, you know, beat the peach bowl players leaving early be a player skipping. The bowl game Beit coaches heading to your rivals. It recruits de committing recruits decommissioning and going public with it. I mean, that's not something that happens at other schools Ness as very much and then obviously the Chris. Evans situation. You know? I don't I can't imagine Michigan wants to talk about that..

"Three podcast while the back. Glad you're here on a Tuesday afternoon. Just get or guest to come as we continue. Glad you're with us. We gone around the horn a couple of times today. Let's continue with more calls. Antoine is in Michigan. Hello antoine. Very doing think we are. Call. Thank you. Talked to before Paul about Harbaugh. And and you know, I think a it's like he he he's doing what bow sim Boeckler is like let the coaches coach. And that's one thing about saving. He don't let his coaches coat. That's why they just leave because he wanted a power star there, even though he is the head, man. But it's a power struggle. But Harbaugh, you know, you gotta member Richard Reid took us back all the way back. I mean you see offense. It took us back and Brady Hoke wasn't no better coach so Harbaugh got to get those players in. And he's learning on the job. You know, he's learning quick from NFL to the to to college that you know, you Joe position coaches, and you remember that he didn't have a quarterback coach he didn't have receiver coach, you know. And then Greg Maddison I'll be in Dita's left but the rinse for him because I think he was doing a good job anyway. But you know, I think they're going to turn around because if you member, you know, highest they had the same problem. You know, they couldn't be Michigan say they sold Cooper had all those talent Eddie, George all those guys. And all those guys they was ranked in the top three the country. They couldn't be Michigan the say they sold. And now, you know, they they got a guy they had a couple of guys coming here and beat miss and now as Michigan trying to get those guys get a guy in here to beat them. So, you know, I always turn to tie turns. You know? But I'm I'm I want you to think about this. Why did it higher state coats? I mean higher state quarterback Haskins left at the one year. Well, he left because he's he's projected to be a first round pick paw. You do you think he really going to start? Really what I think you listen. He's got a chance to go. Go pretty high. You know? That's that's the thing. You know? It's a difference from NFL too. It's not it's not a draft overloaded with quarterbacks. You know that I know I know, but it's just different you like, you know, he's a shotgun quarterback. You know, even though here who let me let me ask you. Why did he leave? I think urban Meyer man, I think you know, that that, you know, you know, even though I don't like urban Meyer, but earth, he got he got he's he he's a genius now when we come to often and he put he put he put his players in position to win the game. You know what I'm saying? And. I, you know, I think you know, when he left I think I think he saw the writing on the wall. He he was out of there. You know, 'cause I one year at the one year come on out for you don't leave at the one year start. You know, Android, the we will not know the answer to your question until April twenty-seventh, and he goes in the first round we have the answer..

"Stay would've given Clemson a better game in Alabama did last night between asking the way they've been playing in the way that that defense is balling out. Ever talks about that Alabama front seven lost. It's got a pretty good front seven big ten reps. Were there last night there? Couple of those non pass interference calls that looked very familiar the big ten fan. But do you think? Well, how state would've given a better game, Clemson and Alabama. No, no, no, no. But they lost to produce. So you know, and just think just think just think if that kid whose name I don't even know didn't come out of the mist after Trevor Lawrence got hurt against Syracuse and didn't win that football. And you even have to look his name. Okay. They showed him on the sideline during the broadcast and Chris Fowler can be joining us shortly. Let's just think that kit didn't pull it out of his own. You know, what maybe Clemson wouldn't have been in either national champion how about that. Folks. National champion almost didn't make the final four. I'm telling you every championship team has a slip up. Chase Bryce chase Bryce if it wasn't for chase Bryce against your Syracuse orange. "Hey, welcome back to inside the huddle. We are talking. The big news today. L Washington announced that while it's been announced that L Washington is moving onto Ohio State. Greg Maddison moved onto a higher state yesterday to Michigan assistant coaches defensive line and linebackers that left the wolverines for the buckeyes. What was that miss said it put? I don't know. What that is. It was the so from the bears game on Sunday. They had the Spanish a call, and the announcer was going nuts after the hit the upright and the crossbar and it just turned into. It was just. Hey, Sean, if you haven't seen it or heard, it you've got to go check it out is it is commentary gold. Okay. Okay. Also, apparently, you understand that Espanol. I do not. But I don't understand. No senor at least. Okay. Okay. I'll have to check it out here. So seven three four nine eight hundred fifty we're talking about these. I've seen a lot of mixed reviews. I mean, I it's you know, how do you feel about these two men moving on for jobs at Ohio State? I've seen people calling them traitors. I'm seeing people. You know, we talked about the optics of it. Don't look good for Michigan. Is it as simple as two guys making smart business decisions getting offered more money getting offered opportunities to go somewhere else? How do you feel about these two coaches moving on from from Michigan to Ohio State to work with Ryan days staff, seven three four nine nine eight ten fifty. I don't like the traitor talk toxic. I don't I don't like this idea that somehow a guy makes a decision moves on. And he I mean, we've we've discussed this so many times what does a coach what is it player a school? Right. What does a coach school coach head coaches are leaving all the time for for different programs? So I mean, I've seen a lot of people. Call Matt come after Madison savings about Madison. Now, it's starting to happen. A little bit with Washington. I don't really care for that narrative because you don't know what the circumstance. Has our of the moves there to just start throwing out like these guys have betrayed Michigan type of talk, right? They're not traders, stop it. I mean. Yeah. I mean. I can think of off time ahead people who've gone gonna work for rival companies that. I don't think their mindset was like. Oh, let's, you know, screw over Michigan. I think it was an opportunity made more sense for them. Maybe you know, again, Greg Maddison, maybe he wants to be a DC. Maybe maybe he is someone who was a defensive coordinator for so much of his career. Maybe he wants to go out I died, but Dan Brown has the same mindset. It doesn't really want to be working for someone. That's telling them what to do all the time. Nobody you know, we get to a certain age. Nobody does. So you know, he has the opportunity and he went again, Washington you could argue coaching for Michigan made him a traitor based on how he was raised the Ohio State fan hood. He'd always carried with him his ties to a high. Oh, his his dad's alma mater and the team he captained. So no, no, I I don't care for it. I don't think it's. It's fascinating. And I've seen this ever since I started covering things when when Michigan loses assistant coaches. There's a lot more freak out than I think there needs to be mean, Alabama. I think someone just tweeted at me, they'll last nine assistance last year or something ridiculous. Like that happens in your replacing me reload. Yeah. And you go look go go check out. The tracking people are mad at me. Put in the story together. I put it together for this very reason. So you can go look in decide for yourself. The impact of these departures, you can decide. Did they lost the loss? Tober dr. No, you know, they lost. Greg fry. They lost all these guy. I think there's coaching staff got better last off season. You know, it's not always going to get better. It's not an absolute sure thing. And there are of course, coaches you would have liked to have a here. I kind of forgot about Greg Jackson. But people are you know, he's over at instill with the Dallas Cowboys seems to be doing well. Yeah. Maybe they would have liked to have had them. But they also got something different from Brian Smith. He departed, and then Chris Partridge different ideas are fine. It's you know, it's not. It's not like these losses. You're like, oh, good got rid of them. But at the same time, it's not like Michigan suddenly going to be an eight and fourteen because Greg Maddison left's. No, I I think that's you know, that's one thing to keep in mind. And you know is Greg Maddison going to be able to go over there and Taylor like, hey, guys. He's going to reveal corporate secrets to the opponent. Look, I don't think Ryan day needed them to beat the defense. That's true. I'm not really, you know, could he reveal some of the recruiting strategy things like that. I don't know. I think doing that. Is a little bit treasonous too. But the same time. I mean, you know, who do you all your who? Do you owe your allegiance to the program you used to work for or the problem you currently work for if I'm if I'm if I'm in a job and someone says, hey, you know, I want to be better than WICK. What are some things that you think we could do you're obviously going to draw on your experience of work, and where you're working to say, well, these are things that we can improve on. These are things that are in the wheelhouse that we could do. So, you know, look at Michigan is going to go out there and hire some people will see who they hire. You're right. Could they make an upgrade at defensive line? I wrote light Greg Madison. I think he did great things for the university of Michigan. There's a lot of people current players that seem to be throwing some shade, Adam. But there's a lot of former players that have. Said nice things. I mean, Devin Gardner was in here yesterday said really nice things about Greg NATs. Just because the team doesn't get better doesn't mean you have a better coach than Greg Madison. It's just different ideas. I don't I don't think Chris Partridge is a better coach than Brian Smith. And I don't think he's a better coach than Greg Jackson. I don't think he's worse. It's just they're different. So say say they get Elston from Notre Dame. You know, he'll do things differently. He'll do some things the same. The group can still be good. It doesn't mean. They, you know, Greg Mattison was some schmuck. They add unsheltered. I think he was great. I think every player prior to yesterday would have said, yeah. Greg Madison's great. He's one of the best defensive line. Coach is in the country. And so it's. It's a loss. But it's not like suddenly the defensive line is screwed. You know, it's not like, suddenly they won't be able to do anything. It's just it's up to Harbaugh to find someone. That's right for the for the program seven three four nine and eight ten fifty. Now, the interesting thing about this too. Is that we're talking about the defense and yet really the area that needs to be addressed is still that offense and potential offensive coordinator. Let's go to Mike insult Vanya. Mike. How are you today? Hey, guys. A couple of points. I wanna make with regards to the national championship last night. What I've seen in. A little bit. What I've seen from Alabama. It's kind of like what Michigan runs only only the fact that they have a leak out there. And so they can one that style of offense. And then I look at all the assistance of Alabama's loss over the years and four different coordinators and five years it's eerily similar to to Michigan just on a higher level. And then you go on the flip side, you got once in there with the continuity of staff they've lost to assistance over the last five years. Wow. You have a modern offense at one point last night in the fourth quarter. They had twenty five yards rushing and they were up thirty six thirty seven to sixteen. So thinking to myself. Wow. This is this is the modern football the college era, and what we all have to get addressed is east coordinators have to realize that in one of the things that also resonated with me is one of the halftime comments by Alabama or by saving. They said while they were copycat what some other teams have done to us to expose some of our weaknesses. Well, yeah. I mean, that's what you do as a coordinator. And as opposed to some of these older more archaic coaches as we're gonna keep doing it. Because this is who we are. And try to stop us while you get stout. You get stopped. If you keep doing what you're doing. And you're trying to implement something and say this is who we are. Well, guess what state capitalized on that? They they looked at tapes on Indiana. They looked at Tate on the teams that can move the ball against Michigan, and they expose them. So not only coordinators are adapting the style of offense adapting it it. Just kinda hit me last night. You know, clemson's a modern team. Yeah. Alabama although elite five stars everywhere. It's a different style football. And it was exposed last night. Yeah. I mean to some degree. I mean, I look I think to this year through for I think they put the numbers of yesterday thirty eight hundred yards and forty one touchdowns or something like that. So it's not like they're running into a brick wall. I think they honestly I think they had a game plan that was throw throw throw. And then he got picked off twice, and they started running the ball a lot more because they were like we gotta limit his mistakes this gives an and they were given credit. I mean for between the twenties they were shredding and they were getting eight nine ten yards on the ground. The problem was once again the inside the the red zone, then they didn't have a great. They weren't able to capitalize on those opportunities. When you look at the Michigan offense, and you look at the offense is out in college football right now. I mean, I think you go back to of state winning the national championship in two thousand fourteen when you had Zeke Elliott, and you had car Dow Jones, and I'd have to go back and look at how much they threw. But that might be the last time that a run I or run power type of team. Really compete at the ultimate level run. Power type of team is Elliott was a was still running was a beast. But and they had JT bear was the running was the running quarterback until he got hurt have to go back and look at the numbers seemed kind of spread spread concepts with that team though. Absolutely. I it was a spreads urban Meyer power spray. Power spread correct? But every other offense that is essentially Ben in with maybe social Michigan state, and we saw them get destroyed and sales and Fifth Avenue. The office has been in that couch while playoff is essentially playing the offense that we saw Clemson go of yesterday and Oklahoma and Alabama has evolved to they're not running. What Michigan is running like you need to run this type of offense today to be successful at the highest level. Yeah. I mean, I, you know, I did a I did an article after the peach bowl talking about how the offense needs a refitting, and you can go look at the the top top eleven. Passing offenses in the country. Six of them are top ten teams the top, you know, look at the top five teams and in passing offense. I believe three of them are playoff teams. Clemson didn't pass the ball as much throughout the season. But we saw last night. They are a okay they're on the ball. I mean, Georgia and Michigan. I believe or the only top two teams maybe Notre Dame as well. That were not what I would consider elite passing offenses. So you know, it's not as simple as throwing the ball more. You have to do what's right for your personnel. But back to you. If we want to circle back to our ten o'clock hour discussion. Your your personnel lines up to throw the ball quite a bit next year. That's not a dig at Chris Evans or Christian Turner. But that's a compliment to Nico counts down in people's Jones. Tariq, black shape Patterson. You know, I'm even even Nick Eubanks Alvin Martin Sean mccune it should be it should be a passing offense. And it's it's shown that that is a sign of of a successful offense. In today's college football. Let's go back to the phone lines of talk to Joe in DeWitt, Joe. How are you today? Good joe. I was just wondering. Harbaugh calls all the planes, right? It's the beta bottle. Great, the great unknown. My son who doesn't really play football. They're much told me what they're going to run every time. They. Yeah. Much. You know, there's no no no mystery too often. Yeah. I'll hang up. Listen to what you guys got said. Yeah. I do think the they can always say with the play is going to be a little bit got to be in a little bit disrespectful to to Michigan. I think, but I do think there are times where the formations look pretty obvious. I mean, you know, bring Ben Mason and on third and one. The the sole back and not give him the ball..

"Sportscenter allnight, ESPN radio changes continuing Columbus, Ohio state parting ways with defensive coordinator Gratiot Ryan day, bringing in to assistance Japan from the Niners, Greg Madison from Michigan ESPN. Dan, Murphy, it's Ryan days really first major move at the head coach and part of it is just shaking things up a little bit making the program zone. Now that he's taking over to the state. It's always interesting to see a new coach is first time coaching, especially a young guy. Make some of these decisions when he might not have the same type of connections in the coaching world that somebody's been around for a long time. So they leaned on a couple of guys that he's worked with. Briefly before Jeff halfway and him work together. San Francisco a couple of years ago in Greg Maddison worked on the same staff as a graduate assistant Ryan day way back in two thousand five when they were both been reminder staff and Florida so those two guys will become in and take over the defense, which is especially important higher days since his expertise has always been on the offset offensive side of the ball buckeyes, replacing Jonah with dual defensive coordinators. Meanwhile, quarterback Dwayne Haskins says he'll head to the NFL draft should go. Hi, he led the nation with fifty touchdown passes finished third in the Heisman voting behind. Oklahoma's Colin Murray, and Alabama's to a by Loa. That'll do it for sportscenter allnight. Tuesday, January eighth birthday today for Bob Eubanks. Former game show host is eighty one. I'm Jay Reynolds. Golic can we next? It's ESPN radio. The responsibility for us now playing well really start with me. This is a thorough. Turnovers. "Blue. Thanks, sean. Seven three four nine and eight ten fifty. Let's go to Brian in Philly. What upright Jamie? I know your show I come at it from the other side of the rivalry. But I appreciate your perspective on this. Somebody just mentioned Ed Warner. He didn't directly come to Michigan from Ohio State. But if I'm not mistaken you played for the great Beauchamp Becker, correct, correct statement and Jim Harbaugh role model is motion backward. Correct. S? That's yes. That is. Correct. Stand in both and backward further his career and came to Michigan directly from. Miami of Ohio. Now, the Ohio. Well, you're right. You're right. He did come directly. How you are. Right. Right. I know you are you. All right. But there are clearly Ohio State ties there right there. State ties, but you want to you want me to tell you. Listen, I'm I'll be the first to say when I'm wrong, and in that instance, I was wrong. But nevertheless, there's clearly ties there to to Michigan hired him because of his knowledge and of the Ohio State system at the time. I would imagine right. It was at that time they needed to catch up with Ohio State, and what better way to do. So then take one of at that time. Woody Hayes his proteges were his pride protege. Yeah. You're right. Correct. So I I mean, this whole trader thing is nonsense. It's Greg Madison at the very end of his career looks at this is an opportunity to, you know, take an elevated position put somebody under his wing. You know, he's not going to get that opportunity with Don Brown being at Michigan. And I see no problem with it. But but what I do see is Ryan day isn't playing and you know, it's to be determined. What kind of head coach he is. And he is cutthroat. We've just learned that just like Nick savings cutthroat just like urban Meyer was cut throaty. It's he's still on the cards on the table and saying listen, no, I don't know whether Al Washington lined up in Columbus or not. But just just the simple fact that he's targeting him is sending a message in my opinion. No, you're right. He's trying to go. Get the best defensive player. Pl- the coaches. He knows. Grammar and recruiters. I mean, if there's anything that he learned in his time at Ohio State under urban Meyer that recruiting is using the cliche the lifeblood of the program. Yeah. Right. You're right Madison is established at ten which is is knowledgeable high school football and actually his history there right growing up there. I I think one thing I have to wonder though, I can't I don't believe this to be true. But you think that when Ryan day seemed to turn back Harrison did he tell him he's gonna make a play for Greg Madison. I you know, what I don't think. So, but I don't know offhand 'cause I don't talk to Ryan. And look it. It's a good move on his part two ways is a good business move. And it's a good mentoring move for because the the other co coordinator has never been a coordinator before correct? Yeah. So I I mean to show Greg Xiang who's very highly thought of the door, and I feel for any man who is looking for a new job, regardless of profession. But man that tells me that you know, this fresh-faced Ryan day, there's something inside. And he's he's got a he's got he's got that cold heart that I guess maybe it's necessary and keep in mind. I didn't say this before Greg Maddison worked for urban Meyer down. I think down in Florida. Burma Myers thought the world of Greg Matt right? He was so great. Great defense line. Oh, yeah. Well, and I always wondered if that relationship if there was an issue there. But clearly not I don't problem. Yeah. Apparently not. So I it's it's an interesting move at anybody who you know, is showing this, you know, this is an act of treason. It's just not. Let's listen if all of us should hope for an opportunity tomorrow to better ourselves direct. You are correct. It is a business. Thank you for taking the time to talk with. Thanks, brian. Appreciate the phone. Call seven three four eight ten fifty. Let's go to market Lance your dog basketball. Don't you Mark? Oh, man. What you want to talk about? I wanna I wanna talk about what you calling for. And then I won't even which I'll even if I think. Your earlier caller was talking about Elston, my Gilson as the guy Notre Dame that some random internet person throughout might be somebody that maybe might be considering maybe possibility. Hey, man, this social network thing. Her exactly you a the world is frigging everybody. Now got a platform everybody everybody, and everybody's inside. And everybody knows stuff and everybody is people. Listen the garbage. Hey, man. Some interesting times, and this ain't nothing new. I think you're probably your probably talked about day going for the junk going for the jugular whatever coaches, the coaches of always post of the coaches have it just it just so happens to. Yeah. Pointed out urban Meyer and Greg Maddison go way back. So you don't think urban Meyer say Ryan day? Maybe you want to look at that guy. Yeah. Yeah. The song. Who's man? Let's do. This other stuff is just crazy. So this is Michigan the number two team in the country in your mind. Or they number one. Who's one Mellon do Duke? Or Tennessee or? See I watch. Yeah. My goodness. TV man. Yeah. They got. They got a good team is good. This is an eight Nevada just lost to. I can't believe in Nevada lost at New Mexico state Michigan's better than Nevada. I don't know Michigan's better than do got another better than just see. I don't know if they're better in Virginia. I don't know if they're very Michigan state. I don't know they're good. They're good though, their different kinds of good. But you're kinda they really are. Somewhat fragile in the sense that. If they they got some real if they got some real, limitations. Periodically on offense. They can't afford to have test ski in z. Both not show up in one game. It's going to be tough for them in those kinds of situations. I need to get livers back for no other reason that it gives them a little bit more flexibility in an obviously a little bit more depth on the bid in the event that somebody gets and filed trouble or somebody gives ends you got for God forbid, but John's Plato right John's came off the bench. Hey, how about that? Man. The local board. I. Yep. I almost almost lost faith in that young, man. But he came off the bench and you play well. Yeah. It's been tougher him. And because he's a four right. And they got Ziggy and they got livers at the four. Right. I that's I string in that second team. Then you wanna put John's at the four who you got you even in practice who are you gonna take minutes from? You can take notice from 'em makes him a squat. I may seem like a scout team do and then you're supposed to develop a scout team do into somebody. You got toughness and going into the game with it just it just didn't happen. It didn't happen. Unfortunately. But unfortunately, maybe for the team is that there was an injury. And also some guys just weren't weren't playing to the expectations the counterforce coaches hand. He I gotta play somebody. Yeah. I gotta play somebody who's gonna call you next Damien. Have you go out there and play if I had I would have been out there. Yeah. I I liked the team because it's it's a it's a lunch lunch pill. You know hired had kind of team taking me Kevin me back to the days. When I grew up on Michigan. Basketball with Johnny or. And feel Hubbard and Ricky green tea grody bread knows cast are just really get after it Dixie defensively not so much offensively this team. It's fun to watch. 'cause they they do to be line thing on offense to fun to watch. I. Just right. Yeah. I just don't know me to pool make is making shots. And I don't know if you continue to make to keep playing like that. I mean, I don't know. It can be an all conference player if he wants to if he does he won't be Arbor for much longer projection state. I mean. This league is all about projections that NBA thing at what at one point though, you just gotta say. That's that's who he is. Because he keeps doing it. Yeah. You go from one game. Tonight's game say he's just hot. You can't keep you can't keep that up. But it seems like he's he's expanding his repertoire. And and still keeping up the same numbers. How he makes the ground. Mark. Did you see? Good idea. He making a deal. I mean, a taking it to the whole. I mean, he's controlling games when he wants to back three the floater that he had read the very first the beginning of the game. I mean, he scoring almost every way. Imagine if ring when he shoots said three I'm pretty much at three. And the only other guy. Now, maybe some other guys had to green light to do that. But just want capable of doing it. But the only other guy that I that I that I am convinced that beeline had the confidence because they did it on the court like that. Well, I suppose I suppose stop could still certainly sent trae Courtray comes to mind for you. Yeah. I think so. I think that the line is in encourages all of his players to too. So. And display their capabilities. I really do in it. I gotta believe that. If the other players can do the things that pool does and they'd be doing. No, you're right. Got you got you got a midget out there throwing hook shots. Jay. Because he knows a term of endearment is not spare me, he he. He is the glue that keeps it all together. I don't care what anybody says. And you can't throw this out there. Unless the coaches say, hey, look, go here, man. Do do you? I mean, he used to look when he did it. Now, we don't even look at his hands. He's not made by the money. Yeah. Money and and warming up to to fund team watchman, they're going to lose some games. Probably. But as long as they leave it out there on the court. I'm good. Thanks. Call mark. Appreciate it. Seven three four nine hundred eight ten fifty. Let's go to Derrick in Massachusetts. Let's up there. How are you Jamie? Good Darren how are you? Hey, good. I just gotta tell you, you know, based on that last caller thank God for John beeline. Thank God for John beeline. Man, he gets us through some difficult times. So anyways with with football to me. It doesn't matter. If Madison is leaving the issue is offense. I don't think we should assume that it was simply a business. He has had the opportunity for several years to be a defensive coordinator. Elsewhere if he wanted to he didn't take those positions. I don't think the pay raise is that sufficient I think it's safe to assume that there is some component of an f you to by here. But the bigger issue to me, you know, as we talked about before is on the offensive side of the ball. And you know, all this all these coaching changes to me point out. Another reason why he needs. An offensive coordinator who's independent which is rarely discussed and that is succession planning. In other words, Ryan day was urban offensive coordinator when urban decided to walk Ryan day was uniquely qualified for the position has no one on his staff and won't unless and until he Eire's offensive coordinator would be in a position to soom the throne after school one and half Harbaugh decides to walk because I'm assuming they'll never fire him. And that to me that's another reason why he has to look deeply at himself and say, hey, you know, what maybe I do from succession planning standpoint need to get somebody in near to call plays. So that when I walked to the NFL and a few years the school isn't left searching for somebody else. I know what? Derek? That's that's great thought. I mean, I like it. But how do you know, he's gonna leave? I don't I don't know if he's going to leave. He he seems to be happy here in Ann Arbor. I I mean, I like thank you for the phone call and like I like thinking about that. I don't think he's leaving right now. I just don't I I got that bad. I got that feeling we need to go to break real quick. Come back. Eric hang on. We got you, bro. "A lot of things have just happened. So we just heard wait Haskins. Of course, declaring for the NFL. And that's obviously not humongous news. We knew that was coming matter of fact, I thought it was kind of solidified when we start talking about how Justin fields is going to be coming to Ohio State. I figured at that point. He knew some holidays hadn't been actually, you know, public knowledge that clearly he's cut making his way here from Georgia. As a quarterback prospect for the buckeyes last week. We talked about that. So I think at that point. We knew that, you know, Dwayne was going to be going just announced not too long ago. Greg's Yana defensive coordinator out at LSU's been replaced by Michigan's defensive line coach, Gregg Madison. Bill davis. The linebacker coach has been let go as well. So there are some huge developments going on right now. With him with Jiahoe. I didn't. I'm not really that surprised. And I don't know how he and Ryan day. I don't know what kind of a relationship. I don't know if it's something that that's the way that this is playing out or it was just something. Greg said, all right. I'm done here. You know, he tried to go to Tennessee is you know at the last the end after last season. So he he was going to be going to Tennessee was going to be volunteer. And that ended up falling apart and urban, you know, welcomes him back or whatever. So there were some interesting developments with that. And I'm not that sad about the fact that he's gone. I don't know. I just heard somebody say a Michigan fan here in the in the building don't know anything about Greg Madison. But somebody said, oh, who cares? These almost seventy anyway, and he's probably close to retiring. So I if he's not going to end up being any kind of a I don't know if he's not going to be around a little while. I kinda question that I don't know why. Why are they in and actually part of the comment was in addition to him possibly almost retired? Anyway, you know, hey, at least they went after somebody who has a little bit of a background and not some. I dunno some up and comer if you will from some small school your thoughts on that. Josh, I don't know if you have any, but I don't know. I don't know what to say about Greg Madison. Obviously, I don't know anything about him. And I didn't have enough time to do any real deep research with regard to that. But he is a he's a little long in the tooth. I'll just say it. Well, yeah. But he's got a ton of experience, which is how much of that experience. Do we get the tap into? I guess let's see how long he was. He had he had a really really good defense. When he was there Michigan's defensive coordinator under Brady Hoke from two thousand eleven or two thousand fourteen matter of fact, they were number six in the country on defense in two thousand fourteen he's had four years under Don Brown who up until the last two games of the year. Year had Michigan plane as the best defense in the country. Right. So I I mean, good pedagogy. Here's what it says to me. I just think I think this is a stopgap. I'm sure Ryan days got some young up and coming guy in mind. And then you just say, hey, groom the kid. Groom some thirty one thirty two thirty three year old stood up and coming coach. And just you know, have Madison kind of take him under his wing for maybe two years and another beaten and Madison can retire. That's what it feels like to me. How about John Jonah leaving Chano is hey is him leaving. Because of Ryan San we need somebody else. Or is that because he was ready to go. Do you think? No. I think I think Ryan day was was not happy with the defense. He saw. And by the way, apparently, it's the same way. I mean because look Alex Grinch gone, Sean Ogun Bill Davis, gone, right? And according to buck nuts. Their sources say that Ryan they actually told them before the road. Is bowl even told Alex Grinch. You want to be a defensive coordinator you'd better look for another job and told Greg siato, basically. Yeah, you're not going to be defensive coordinator. I mean, that's what Bucknell it's the same. He's he told them this before the royale. So it sounds like Ryan day did not did not get along very well with those guys and quite frankly. After watching the last couple of years some of the worst defense and all state history. That's the key good riddance. Because I was happy that he went to ten he looked like he was going to Tennessee. And I was like I'll sweet he's going to be a volunteer out of our hair. Like, he's named the Tennessee head coach and on never forget this. I've told this story a couple of times I'll say it again. I was on the air at that point doing a different show on sister station with a guy who went to Tennissee Tim McGee who played for the Bengals he was during the boomer assize scenario played with Chris Collins where these receiver they're using in Super Bowl twenty three on the air with him for the last couple of years. He's like she does not gonna last there. I'm like, what do you mean not gonna last? He's already named the Tennessee head coach. And he's like I'm telling you they're going to revolt, and it's not he's not going to last and lo and behold that is what happened. How do you name somebody the head coach? And then people revolt the masses clamor to get rid of him. And then I go. Oh, okay. Well, he's expressed leaving. I mean is that you saying to your your girlfriend? Yeah. I'm gonna break up with you. Because I I need to go with somebody else or your wife, and then you whoever you go after goes, not not interested in you, go. But you told me you were and then you go back to your action you go. Hey, I'm gonna come back if that's all right and urban took him back. I was kinda shocked at the way that that played out. And then after seeing obviously some of these games we had this year in our defense. You got man what why did we take this guy back? So I'm not really sad to see him. Go. Look, I don't know him these probably a great guy. And certainly I wouldn't want to fight him. I mean, it looks like a bad mammoth JAMA as far as that goes. But you know, I it is what it is. I suppose at this point. And I'm not I'm not really that sad to see him actually, go. Maybe somebody who can shed some more light on. This is the great breadth of Leschi with the Bleacher report Brennan spent a couple of weeks, and how are you man? Happy new year. SMU, sir. And when you say, bad mammogram of all of a sudden, think of ram, jam blackberry. Number one. Let's roll. So we were just talking about Greg Xiantao's defensive coordinator out at OSU and Michigan's defensive line coach Gregg Madison steps in Bill Davis. The linebacker coach was fired as well for for us you so some big some big rumblings here in the capital city. So it's interesting to say, the least I'm sure you actually saw this stuff. No, you're absolutely right. And you expect that to a degree when you have the transition from one from one coast to the next, and I understand it was urban Meyer making the decision to walk away because of health reasons and what for. But you're still wanna put your stamp on a program when you become head coaches, right? So now, you have Greg Maddison who's been a very well respected because not only him, but the NFL level as well. To me. That's a big step in the right direction for them. I know there was troubles Gregg giannotti throughout the year. Obviously he has other issues when it comes to going to other programs, and that was well documented when he was Tennessee position. But I I look at Madison as an upgrade simply because he has that pedigree. And that experience you want to really maximize the talent you get Columbus. Urine a year out with all his four and five star prospects. Boy, what some fun NFL playoff games over the weekend as well. So now switching gears here with principal Leschi from the Bleacher report, and it looks like across the board. In addition to them, you know, some really excellent games like you go man, these are teams that should be battling it out. And boy, they couldn't get it more, right? In addition to that. Ratings are up. And so it looks like hopefully, we are headed out of that horrible black hole known as someone taking a knee and everybody's done with the NFL. So it looks like things are starting to move in the right direction upward and onward. But I don't know man the Phillies Chicago game last night. And I actually only saw the end of it. But boy what a heartbreaker at the buzzer for Chicago. Unbelievable. That is the worst of worst of worse. Look bad. You know, one thing we need to point out and a lot of onus is being placed on the kicker in an absolutely should. And we've seen the struggles. Not only the bears organization, but the entire NFL has find consistency. Among their specialist. But we also have to give credit to trivial and Hester who partially blocked that kick. And I know that was something that wasn't shown at the moment it happened and poor Cody parkey foward on social media like so many numskulls out there to love to destroy people when their team doesn't it doesn't go in their direction. But in this case, there was something that actually added to that miss. He didn't flat out in flat out shank it. So I I want I want to mention that first and foremost because while we can look at entire game. And it wasn't attaining. And we have Nick foles magic, which is absolutely unbelievable. And it's hard to bet against him in the postseason because he's so unflappable let's put the entire onus on one player because the bears never been in that position allowed to come back. Don't get to that point where one plate decides the entire game. So to me, that's where I find it problematic with the narrative that we see today is that a kicker has to go in front of everybody and take entire. And it's really not all his how the game before Phillies Chicago yesterday. I did watch that when the chargers at the ravens, and it looked like they barely were holding on. I don't see them. And by the way, real quick, let me get your since we talked about Philly, Chicago. Do you see Philadelphia moving on? Do you see them? We obviously they're moving on I met. Do you see them winning their next game and moving forward? No, I have a difficult time seeing them really competing with up Rashwan an NFC really the only team. I'm I'm a little wary about because I think this is a wide open field overall through on both sides of the bracket. But when it comes to the Philadelphia, I'm not sure you can't maintain what they did yesterday. Because one of the things you saw yesterday with Chicago is that offense was pitiful their points for China sugar coat. It the best way I can Mitchell Trubisky didn't play that. Well, here's a couple from receivers white put them in a position to win. Otherwise, he was not the same type of quarterback we've seen a point under Matt Nagy. So they're missing pieces in Philadelphia, whether it be consistency outside and wide receiver or their secondary, which has had a makeover due to injury. So I expect some team at least one of the better teams to be able to exploit those issues talking to bread Celeski with the Bleacher report the out of the four games. I only saw one to me. And obviously the score actually indicated the colts Houston, and they ended up. Winning that twenty one seven the Colson. And obviously there were the only clear cut from me that I felt like they were all all of them were really good games. But I felt like they actually have a chance to continue advancing. I don't know Dallas barely hangs on the chargers. Barely hang on the chargers. I don't see them that. That was if there had been another minute minute and a half as bad as as the ravens played they shouldn't have even sniffed that. And the chargers, you know, they struggled all day yesterday. I don't see them continuing to move forward. I would argue the opposite. I was very impressed by what the chargers, and the reason why is because first of all they made the dreaded west coast east coast trip in play the one o'clock game, which is never in the west coast teams favor. They didn't allow that that law to naturally happen. With generally see second of all they got there on Friday, though. Did you know that day to the chargers arrived on Friday? No, that's fine. That's a good way to work around it. I'm just pointing out normally that's that's an issue. But my point I was gonna point state is that we saw it really smart adjustments by that by that those wash the game closely, and it's been well documented after the fact is they play what they call their quarters personnel. Meaning they took out all their linebackers input three safeties in those positions. So they allowed the speed of their defensive backfield to overtake Lamar Jackson that way. The ravens didn't have as many counters to what they did the first time they chose to me..

"So Mike your coach McRae. Now, you you used to that title a little bit. I'm starting to use to it more and more somebody younger players are called me 'cause McCrae, but the guy that I play last year still comedy uncle, Mike, Mike, so we're getting used to agronomy a little bit. So when did you when did it click for you was it always the case that you knew you were going to go into coaching? Was there a moment? After you graduated where you decided I mean, how did you come to the decision a coaching with three? I'm always kind of knew what I wanted to do after our done playing that was the culture, and I like people, and I feel like why not help people what I know. Coaching football can help football. But I also have with life. So that's my ultimate Osman decision. When when I've made the decision to give back, basically. Gotcha. So you know, you come back and these guys on what they call it a revenge tour. I imagine that you're feeling that even even more even more maybe some of the other. I mean, obviously, not the other coaches, but some of the other guys that are new to the staff because you were on the team last year, you feel like you feel like as you out there to do the as we be Wisconsin. I I was just like that's one thing. Game anymore and then Michigan state loss last year. We won that game. I'm just like. And then last week that was probably about that game. Since we lost that game last year. I thought it was almost every day. This man memories after all went away. I haven't thought about last year at all. Just gotta keep going. We having a good year especially on defense. The looking good right now. So clearly every year. Coach Brown has been here to defense has been at a certain level. But it seems like they've taken it up a notch this year. What when you when you compare units? You know, I'm not saying that they had that that it's better or worse. But what are they doing better? What is this this squad doing better than you guys? Did last year, I would say the maturity level. You know, the guys are a lot more mature got a lot more experience in. I say got humbled a little bit actually. Some of the guys probably never lost that many games ever. And the season came in as freshmen twenty team we lost three games. And then last year, I think it was five, and that's like that's a humbling experience like we were five and seven hundred twenty four teams right here. We got humble should we play better? And I assume humble some guys. Games more experience. And I said a lot more mature than we were last year. So when you get humble, what does it what does that do? What does that mean you get humble on on the field? What does that what effect? Does that have on on? You does it change your preparation? Does it make you more attention to make you work harder? What what happens when you get humble are they just focused more, and you just key on a little things and practice harder to everything harder in especially like an off season getting stronger faster. So that what happened last year doesn't happen again this year? And I think the guys that's a hard. What happened last year? They don't want to go through that again. And you can see it on the field. Right. So you know, you you were a captain guys. Still call you cap sounds like so you know, what it means to set a tone for a team. So you're just listening to Greg Maddison talk about Devin Bush said NATO for the team before the Michigan state game. He said man use as write you could say is wrong. I can say that's the guy showing emotion for the team help do it again. What was your response when you heard about it? And then when you saw I mean, how did you react? I was actually out there when it happened. Okay. And I was just like a long they they chose the wrong one today because he was already known. And I was like you chose the wrong one. And then I guess the the team found out the locker room is just is out of ball in just went from there. And I I loved it though. I loved the intensity from Nestle. Devon Devon is a intense. Great player off the field. A great personality funny. You know? And that's what I love about him. He knows how to flip the switch. That game that was that set the tone for the rest of the year. I feel like you guys always play fast, physical aggressive. But if I if I were to point out something different. Just from the outside looking in. Is it feel like it's a little money for as little as these guys? Like, you push them, the wrong way is is this gonna be some consequences? Not not that there weren't consequences in the past. But yeah, you might see a guy scratch up to s this year. That's what that's what this group is feisty guys. They'd had it a little bit last year. They added when they first got here. I mean, especially like the older guys. And then a young guys follow. So. Teams a lot more feisty than before. Gotcha. All right. So. It is very important. I mean, you were on a team that was on a roll like this, Mike me, you know, what it's like and into Iowa, you guys are, you know, wanna top teams in the country everyone's talking about big ten championship playoff. And then obviously, the loss Iowa. So take me give me your take away from that experience, and what you have to do to prevent something like that from happening again, I would say from that experience. We had a great team of veterans just like this team. I don't know xactly where when we play well game and everything, but we just didn't win. I was just say we have to finish strong, especially in the fourth quarter in November. Harassment every team team start losing teams lose focus because they focusing on OBT championship. We want to win the big ten to win the big ten or we go to the playoffs. And now it's like you can't think about that in November that you have to focus on that game. And I think at twenty sixty we kinda thought about okay? Win this game. In a playoff between championship. You haven't done since two thousand four you can't isolate that's what we thought about labor too much gosh. And now I feel like we have to focus more on Rutgers. And then we get this win focus on Indian get that where we can't look forward at all. I think that's one thing about this team. They're focused on right now. Gosh this stuff. Right. So before we get into records this on get your thoughts on some of the guys some of the guys in your room that we don't see guys like, for instance. A young guy like hammer groans. And what have you what have you seen from from young Cam? Obviously, very physically talented kid. I've seen a lot of improvement. Especially from coming in during can't, you know that having do the bridge program and can't and you can see that improvement. Now. He's he's learning. He's playing faster because he knows he's starting to learn defense, and you can see his eligibility and everything coming out in who he is as a player before you can see that. Because he was thinking didn't really know what's going on. And now you can see like he he's going to be pretty good. So gimme gimme somebody other guys in the win the wings behind like we know the guys that are playing you got Devon. Of course, you got you got little big and Josh Ross. And of course, I- Devon Gill. But who are some of the other guys behind them that you working within practices, you kind of see making strides Jordan, Anthony has gotten a lot better, you know, especially from his from my share you can he's totally different player. Really in my opinion being out there practicing with him. And then being like a coach now CNN you can see the big difference in him. All the guys look a lot better. I think once you get to know the defense and the ins announced little things you start playing faster and everything comes easier. Allom beggars are like that. Now. This. And having fun. And I got to get your thoughts on the guy that I think might be the most improved on a team, maybe hero maj. I shoot J play animal like an animal out eight clear. The there's something different about him. Did you expect this? I expected him to have a big season this year. He in my opinion. He's unblock boo. He strong. He's extremely fast off the bar. He's fast period. And. He's just staying focusing doing what he does best. And I will say he might be one of the best has Russia's in the country, in my opinion. I think as he played five games and has seventy six that's like ridiculous. That's ridiculous. So Madison said he has like sixty snaps seven. That's that's a great number right there. He's I would say he's definitely by patron country, in my opinion. He's he's getting it done. And he's another guy that plays or something that that edge that we were talking about. All right. So take me into Rutgers this close out with that scarlet knights, obviously not having a lot of success in the win loss column. But I've she can't take anymore for granted. When you watch them on film. What do you see from an offensively? They have a lot of athletic ability on my opinion. And they got a lot of weapons that you you can't even though the record doesn't show or they're a good team. You know, you see the athletes athletes that they have and you have to you can't go into this game. Like, oh is easy. There's not no game is easy. You have to go in and prepare like, we have been Rutgers can be that team that could be Iowa for twenty sixteen can be that you can't take it for granted ages. They're a good team really athlete Agusan athletes at the running back in this in my opinion. The best position on the team when officers under the ball running backs got some weapons receiver in was the quarterback is owner. He's he's pretty good on August last week against Wisconsin. He had a pretty good weight. And. It's could be a good game. Thank you coach current Deepa intern Mike McRae..

"Are so incredibly small, and that's where he is right now. But Greg Maddux figured out how to do it. But he was always doing. Lick is up. He was thinking he never started at ninety five ninety six point is as he got finished my point. I saw I saw him kind of go cutoff cut, you never let you finish your point. Go ahead. So he started off at one particular point in his career ninety five 'cause he got older he still had to figure out even more crafty ways gag is out when thirty year damn when you did that he was doing that in the mid twenties. But. Oh, you didn't have the heat. He still had to be crafty enough when he got older like like ills e- to figure out how to continually or more certain pace. You're more examples of pitchers who don't do that. But then do especially when newer elite at throwing fiery Matic's was role. Paul through the eye of needle Clayton Kershaw clinker croissants. Great command, especially but Maddux is is a different animal together to expect something even approaching that would be extremely. Shwain? In the conversation. Kershaw conversation of the greatest pitch of this generation for sure then don't tell me what Greg Maddison special and Kershaw. You know, if he's who we say he is then it should be he in the conversation with Greg Maddux. Because that's kind of way way he's being described as a player in this league. I hear you. But I think they're special in very different ways. Maddox was cooking one way his entire career. And just started to cook the same way at a lower philosophy that you're asking Kershaw to be a guy that was all about stuff and velocity an command to become strictly command. What I'm asking? But he got stuck you really good chicken. Right. You're really good at fried chicken. But now, you figured out all the grease.

"I promise is the defensive backs coach, you must really enjoy watching those guys get off the field over twelve on third down throwing the over one on fourth down of thirteen opportunities to get off the field. The defensive backs shutting down Michigan state's receivers, all game long. So as defensive backs coach, you probably pay attention to what long and Watson and hill, and those guys are doing and they'd had a terrific ballgame. We have such great young young people that put at a great shout out to Mike origin and Chris Partridge and nadeau knows working into the second year. Had he been a secondary coach? We were ninety five percent zone and five percent man to me and and I know how difficult it is to teach. And I know how difficult and how athletic you have to be order, play man to man coverage and into watch the way our young people reformed in the secondary. My hat is off to coaches and players for tremendous scheme and for tremendous coaching and execution, you guys are really fast on defense. You don't sacrifice strength at all. You guys bring. It's a combination of the scheme that Brown brings the athletes. You have been Herbert's, obviously got your guys that much bigger and stronger, but it's amazing to see that the speed and the ferocity, which your guys play on defense and really violent would be another word to. It's guys like Brian. Monet thought Brian had his his best game, and then Aubrey. Solomon really play in the full game and played it a winning level and great to see him do some things. I mean, I don't think there's anybody that can hit the sled, like Aubrey Solomon can on our entire roster and to see him out there in the games doing that to see that you know that the jump that that he's made. And I'm so glad dad talked about the Mike Zordich and Chris Partridge, and you know what a great job they do and Greg Maddison does and quick pay, you know, getting, you know him on the scene right now has been huge. I mean, he made several several big plays in the game, a Josu shea, the speed and power that he's coming off, the edge with it means just, you know, it just bodes well for our team and those two guys, really, I mean doing such a such a fabulous job in the run game in the past game. Just one point. I wanted to make it in playing the Don Brown scheme in the set. Secondary man to man, no press coverage. Everybody's up in everyone's krill, and and you know you, you're able to get a Chuck coming off the ball and then and reroute them, but the, the lost ingredient. And all of that is that you're lying backers have to be able to run and they have to be able to play man coverage because these offenses know that it's man to man defense, and they ski race to get fastback and an extra receivers. Third, fourth receivers on those linebackers and they have to be very, very talented instilled in man coverage as well as defensive backs. No question and it picks. And Evan a run around picks having choosing angles. I mean, they Devon Bush and my gosh, she thinks he, he can't. He's planted as high a level as you could possibly play. And then he, he turns it a game like he did at Michigan state is fabulous. Texted this gym after the game in the I had so much pride and so proud of..

"This is Jack talk. I wanna listen, I want to be better. I want to be the best. I can be welcome to our team. Jack talk. As you get older, you get to be seventy eight years old. Here's what I find here grows in places that it hadn't been before. Welcome to hashtag Jack talk. Now time for everybody's favorite segment of the week here on a tacky state the Harbaugh's podcast, Jack talk by the way Jack. We should just mention that the Borg McEnroe match. You got to talking about nine hundred eighty and Borg one and the numbers on that one are insane. It's one of those things where you look back and you almost don't remember, but it was one six, seven, five, six, three, six, seven and a tiebreaker was eighteen sixteen and then it was eight, six in the last of the of the sets. That's what you're talking about. Hello, the match last I don't. I didn't get that part. I just grabbed the numbers and they're just you to the first one one, six like McEnroe's gonna win this thing going away. And then boy comes back seven, five, six, three McEnroe takes the fourth sets seven six sixteen or eighteen sixteen tiebreaker. That's a lot of tennis and then eight, six. We watched every stroke of that great match. I promise you that was a that is a famous one. That's actually I think it was HBO did a documentary or a docu drama on, I think is what they would call it on on that match. All right. So welcome back to town. You were down in Georgia last week OB at a great trip down to see the family. You watch football on TV and spend some time around the basketball program down at Georgia as well. I want to mention I spoke last Thursday up in Flint that you've club of greater Flint, and we're big in Flint play that we're big and Flint. I always thought that my show in the mornings was big and Flint because Sam is from Flint, but they love you. They love they love Jim, but people always come back to me and tell me with stories that you tell they love the story. So you're big in Flint. So we want to give shadow to our friends up in Flint town up there. And obviously we just came off home opening weekend and there's something special about the home opener, whether it's the first game of the year, the second game of the year, but it's family reunions. You the same tailgating people maybe seven times a year. Tailgates. You. See the same people to stands, maybe seven times a year at games, but you've seen him grow up in generations of passive, but you're all still together and it's family reunion time and towns like like the rest of us. You had some reunions going on as well. Forty, six, forty, seven years in coachee. We mentioned before the game, get a little fuzzy and winning and losing and all that gets a little bit fuzzy. But the thing that never you never forget your players, the players. I mean, you can remember recruiting them. We had a youngster, John offer doll at western Michigan university recruited him in nineteen eighty one as a true freshman out of Wisconsin. He came and play started force for four years. Every game never missed. A game came majoring in in pre med and Jameson son. Jamison is on the Michigan roster. So we had the western Michigan experience that we shared together and son here at the. -versity of Michigan, John and his wife, Lynn, and Jameson came over for breakfast. We had a chance to go down into our basement and one of my all time favors Jon offer dog, we had his picture down the basement. We had a chance to talk some stories. He was recruited out of Wisconsin had no other offers. Not one other school offered him any kind of a scholarship whatsoever. Greg Maddison was recruiting them the Wisconsin area and and brought him over to visit with his dad. They came in a truck and we offered him a partial scholarship, half scholarship truck broke down on Sunday, and he had to stay his stay an extra day. So we had a chance to recruit him. Came all American third team all American at western Michigan. Second round draft choice by the Miami Dolphins, a pro bowler for five of the seven years. He played in the NFL you as a pro bowler, highly highly successful in the in the business world..

"Doc Carson John, Jansen back it's up in Michigan and. Notre Dame kick it off. Just after, seven thirty the wolverines post one of the nation's best defense it's. Time for our defensive scouting. Report the script should be great defensive coordinator Dom Brown said all week is excited to see. This group play let's run down the numbers. Nine starters back from a defensive year. Ago that was third in the nation in total defense thirteenth in. Scoring defense eighteenth and. Rush defense I in the country had passed, defense I in the country in third down defense here is down Brown he's ready to go let's. See how we play in competitive situation anxious to see how we, handle adversity because somewhere along the line you're gonna have to do that And and, keep playing so you know you put all those pieces. Together I'm just. Kind of anxious to see our moxie on the on the on the game, field it basically comes down to finishing games they've done. Everything good but they have, in Dombrowski tenure. The been, times where they've had late. Leads and given those leapt up yeah and and talking to. Tie, rekindle talking to. Devon Bush talking to all the guys on defense that's one of the things. That they've really emphasizes playing four quarters of making, sure that they finish out and give. Our offense the time in. The end, the the opportunities that we need to be successful Notre Dame will. Start Brandon wimbush quarterback he's. Always been better with his feet than his arm if he struggles there's an expectation that junior. In book could come in he's completed sixty. One percent of his passes a year. Ago compared to win Bush at forty nine Brown discusses how to. Stop the Notre Dame. Office you can't be one dimensional that's for, sure you know they coach over there. Too so if you plan, on giving them a simplified looks I think they're. Going to bash. Your brains and so you need to be multiple in your approach that requires, four man Russia's five-man Russia's maybe some spy you know. It just requires all the, things at your. Disposal in, your concept system to keep. Them keep them moving mentally try to stay with you John you've watched this, defense you've watched film on this defense you played five years at Michigan eleven years in the league and you said you had. Problems picking out there fronts your problems knowing what coverage to go to because, they, are so complicated you hear Dr Don Brown talk about the what? He does inside his system and it is such a. Very system that there are times when I see formations from the defensive personnel groups from the defense and I'm looking at it and I. And I go through and I said okay what do I do on this protection or on this other protection and it takes me, some time to figure that out these are things that that Notre Dame hasn't seen things that nobody has seen before and with a young offense of life for Notre Dame it's going to be hard at the. Drop of, a hat. And the amount of time that they have at the line. Of scrimmage three or four seconds to decipher where to turn the production who you're going to try to pick up and, and I think, that there's gonna, be a, lot of open runners are open hitters on the quarterback all right Notre Dame they've recruited very well on, the, offensive line and after losing A pair first round picks off the left side of that line these guys are plug and play up front we'll see. How they do can Brown with a veteran defense veteran talented defensive front take advantage of some first-time starters every game you play you, know you're trying to find those kinds of guys that you could take advantage of so it's like really every other week but you know they they do a nice job and have done a nice job with. Their offensive, line over. The years so I'm sure they'll be ready to play us I Jon Jansen what. Affords this group a chance to be special because, I think it's great. Corner play when you can man up on the edges it. Really creates some flexibility everywhere else you can get really. Aggressive well you can and I think it's. The speed at the linebacker position is to Devin Bush there's nobody better at that, position going sideline to sideline Khaliq, Hudson Joshu j you, could go, down the list of linebackers and they're going to be able to keep guys. Fresh by cycling them in and out, and Greg Maddison, even, said this week up front they finally are back to a position where they're they're going to deep. So those guys are going to be fresh upfront What, about that offense of why do you think that Michigan's defensive front kin can dominate this. Game there's, no question that they'll be able to dominate, this game this is this is a defensive front that, will pose a lot of issues to even the best offensive lines and when. You, look and. You say well do we double team Rashad Gary then all of a, sudden, the chase winnebago's left on unblocked or one. On one. Michael Guam for Aubrey Solomon I mean you, could again go down the list and it's out those matchups if they can beat those matchups individually that's going to be awful hard for any offensive line to defend a safety play. A year ago came under some criticism but there's been a lot. Of, emphasis in. Approving that part of Michigan's game Tyree kennel Josh Mattel us are back Bradley. Hawkins converted wide receiver probably get somewhere back there today and some other youngsters but there's sort of an expectation that that group will get a lot better yeah there is and and I talked to Tyree all. Throughout camp and their emphasis on hey we don't. Want to be the weak spot we want we, want to be a. Strength this year and I think that they're doing Things that, that they have to do to make that happen all right straight ahead we. "The size of that guy alain wow i was more impressed with the way he was running that's what i say what's like applied end and so yeah i'm sure if there's anybody anybody who looks like that kid running around over there michigan would certainly take a look huge like wow eagles picked him up i'm like okay that's that's the rich getting richer right yeah well i mean i heard the they they picked the a rugby player would never play football i thought that was weird and then they showed the highlight package and i said okay now i get it yes i gotta do that was i was like what are the eagles doing there's enough you know this football players all over america but when i saw the highlight film like you allen i will yeah absolutely absolutely he's doing it without parents any what are the coaches do it on the road who's on the road allen well they're they're all over they're covering a lot of ground right now but the one today that kinda was interesting because we had just seen the kid and wondering maybe why michigan had an offer was a kid named denver warren from west aurora illinois defensive tackle twenty twenty kid but all fabulous himself is one of the best in the midwest very strong powerful kid greg maddison was in there today and after greg left michigan extended an offer and you know he's got a several big ten offers now but i think he's going to give michigan a close look so that's a guy to keep an eye on and one of the newest i think he is the latest offer he was offered just today so that's one.
