Patrick Mahomes plays through ankle sprain, leads Chiefs to third Super Bowl in four years
"Be done. Greg eklund was that the chief's Bengals nail biter. 45 yard field goal by kicker Harrison butker with three seconds left in the game gave the Kansas City Chiefs a 23 to 20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, played with a high ankle sprain and attributed his success to the chief's training staff. At the end of the game there, I had to run to get the first down and got us into fill Lorraine. So credit to them. And then just trying to stay on it and we have two more weeks. So we got to keep doing it. The Super Bowl will have a bit of a sibling rivalry, as chiefs tight end Travis Kelce tries to take a Super Bowl from brother Jason, the eagle center. You won't see me talking too much trash because of how much respect on how much I love my brother, but it's definitely going to be a, it's going to be an emotional game. That's for sure. Bengals quarterback Joe burrow says they just didn't do enough when it mattered. He's got to find ways and it

Newsmax's Greg Kelly Unpacks Jesse Jackson's Recent Obama Comments
"I'm talking to Greg Kelly, who just said something really ugly. And I want to go back to that to that ugly statement. Jesse Jackson was caught on a hot mic saying that the president of the United States, Barack Obama should, I remember the term you used. I think it rhymed with should be castrated. I know you obviously wouldn't say that on this program. But the point is, even Barack Obama, a black man who's the president of the United States of America when he mentions the problem of the breakdown of family as being at the heart issue of why things have been bad in black communities around the country. He is shut down. I mean, this is rather amazing, really. And it went to his own insecurities about his race, I believe, when he got shut down by liberals and quite frankly, a lot of black liberals said you can't talk down to us, you're talking down to us. I think cut him right to the core because he has struggled with his own identity. He's written 5 books about it. You know, I'm not black enough. I'm too white, or I'm too white. Well, his mother is white, obviously. You know, as white as I am. And yeah, I think that he felt maybe being president wasn't good enough. He had to prove himself more in his bona fides among the black community. So he quickly retreated. Strangely enough, he did. And again, it's in dreams for my father and later books. He was not well received. They viewed him with suspicion in the black community, especially when he ran for Congress in 2000.
Greg Kelly of Newsmax Discusses Dad Ray Kelly's NYPD Legacy
"Greg Kelly, are the son of the famous celebrated New York police department commissioner ray Kelly, who I've had the privilege of meeting a couple of times. So you have a very interesting background just in terms of being a real New Yorker. Well, that's true. And by the way, I'm glad you pointed out, yeah, you think it's kind of obvious the left is wrong about law enforcement. However, and they've been wrong about law enforcement for a long time, but there was a shift starting in about 2011, 2012, where and it really went into overdrive in 2020. Where the left suddenly started to ignore rioting and pillaging and the death and destruction of riots. I mean, the left media, they always had sympathy for those usually perpetrating the violence all the way back in the 60s, all the way through the 90s that Rodney King riots, but they still condemned the riots themselves. And they didn't really sugarcoat it. And that all changed in 2020. And it was pretty dramatic. So I wanted to address all of this. I wanted to figure out how it happened. And you mentioned my dad, I dedicate the book to him, it was a remarkable he is a remarkable law enforcement figure. And he did so much good when he left his position in 2013. His personal approval rating in New York City, which is almost majority, was used majority non white, was at 75%. Which is kind of crazy. When you think about it. Well, it kind of tells you that no matter what color you are, you don't like crime.
Bruins beat Sharks 4-0, extend winning streak to five games
"The burns scored one in the first, two in the second and added one more in the third for a four zero shutout victory over the San Jose sharks. Campus Linton started the scoring for Boston in the first, and then added an assist on the bruins third goal. If you can put them back in that every game you would, but it's a lead with good players in Google. So it's not as easy as it looks, but it's fun that we can create some offense and take some load off those pastor knocking Martians that I can get a little night off. In the third, David pasternack scored his 36th goal of the season on the power play. Goaltender Lena soul mark made 17 saves for the shutout victory. Greg kadet ski Boston
Greg Kelly: The Inspiration for Writing 'Justice for All'
"Should all pick it up justice for all by Greg Kelly common spelling chem S it up The book looks absolutely incredible We're going to get into that because nobody has a better bird's eye view of what goes on with policing Greg and justice than you Your father was the famous ray Kelly guy I have the utmost admiration for police commissioner New York City really him Howard safer and that group Jack maple clean the city up So nobody's seen this or knows it better than you have an incredible history of service to the country as well So tell us about the book what inspired you to write it and why should the listeners pick it up Well it was during the summer of Black Lives Matter 2020 when I noticed the wheels coming off the train in terms of this country The culture lost its mind A complete overreaction to what happened to George Floyd And it muted even some prominent critics at the time And I noticed that the conversation in America about race was getting even sillier and sillier And I've thought for a while now that we're having a silly conversation about race to avoid having a substantive one An important one a helpful one that might be uncomfortable And for a brief period of time it looks like Barack Obama was going to be leading that conversation But he got scared the left didn't want him talking that way So they shut him down As you know the left has been working to undermine law enforcement for decades But something happened again in 2020 where corporations major corporations institutions that we know and value I mean formally the FBI that they bought on to something they had no understanding what they were actually signing on for Black Lives Matter this hideous ideology

Greg Gutfeld: Why Was Brian Stelter Invited to World Economic Forum?
"Then we're looking back, the country is laughing at these clowns at Davos. The World Economic Forum, I will never stop teasing my friend and colleague Hugh Hewitt for announcing that he was invited. That's a bad thing. You don't want to be invited to this nut house. It's hysterical. I mean, these people are carrying on Brian stelter is one of the distinguished panelists. This is the guy that got fired on CNN. The bald headed guy? Greg gutfeld on the 5 had a very funny take about Brian stelter somehow being an expert on misinformation in the media of all people. The irony, of course, is lost on all of these globalists and Davos, listen to this. Stelter's there, but all this fails. Stelter is there talking about disinformation. Isn't that amazing? What's he going to talk about next? How to get washboard abs? Seriously. I'm not invited to these things because I have solutions. And if you go there with solutions, they can't have their fun anymore. So the climate change thing is great because every year that's always going to be the problem. Always the problem. You can still have your Davos party, you can still fly in because it'll never be solved. And fly in on your private jets, which to me is the one that makes me crazy.

Geraldo Rivera: 'Whatever' to Critics About His Definition of AR-15
"And here was a follow-up tweet from Geraldo after the embarrassing admission he made that he did not know what he was talking about when Greg gutfeld said, what do you think? I mean, of course, an AR-15 is a rifle. And Geraldo said it's not a rifle, he said, AR stands for automatic rifle. And it does not. It's ArmaLite rifle. That's what the AR stands for. Geraldo followed up with a tweet after he was publicly humiliated like this. He said, I heard that the daily caller and fellow travelers are ranting about my incorrect definition on air of AR as in AR-15. Whatever Geraldo says, point is there is no place. Other than sporting clubs and similar skilled settings for assault rifles. Their substitute appendages. Their substitute appendages. And you know what he means by that, right? My gun is bigger than yours. I got a big gun. I'm some redneck from South Carolina with my gun. My big gun. That's how the elites and the people against the Second Amendment view, anybody who wants to preserve and protect the Second Amendment.
The Five: Is an AR-15 an 'Automatic Rifle?'
"Realize? How establishment Republicans are absolutely panic stricken over these holdouts being in positions of House leadership? It was a very, very big deal. I want to play a clip for you. There's a big debate that continues in America over gun rights and the Second Amendment. They had a fired up fiery conversation yesterday on Fox News channel's the 5. And the inevitably it always comes back to AR-15s. Grandpa Joe has said over and over again. Nobody needs a weapon of war. Nobody needs an AR-15. Nobody needs an AR-15. Listen to this little exchange between Geraldo Rivera and Greg gutfeld on the 5 yesterday. It makes macho, the people who possess it or look at me, I'm a big deal. And it's not a right. It's a rifle. It is a machine. What does it matter? No. No, that's not what it is. Well, all I know is that AR-15s have no place in American society other than sport clubs. Now, play that one more time because it is literally a rifle AR does not stand for automatic rifle as any gun owner knows. Or anybody with a modicum of knowledge about weaponry, play that one more time. Keep in mind, AR, the AR in AR-15 stands for ArmaLite rifle. It literally is a rifle. One more time. It makes macho, the people who possess it, or look at me, I'm a big deal. And it's not a right. It is a machine. What does it mean? He's literally shutting him down. It's not a right. It's called ArmaLite rifle 15.
Johnson scores 24 as No. 13 K-State beats No. 2 Kansas 83-82
"Kansas forward, Jalen Wilson, the leading scorer in the big 12 conference, telling 38 points, but the 13th ring to Kansas day wildcats managed to hold on for an 83 82 win in overtime over the second ranked jayhawks. Chianti Johnson got the winning basket with 25 seconds left in the OT. Jalen Wilson got to the line, a great player got to line a lot. And I feel like that took us back a little bit just trying not to file, but still play aggressive and down the stretch. I feel like we played aggressively and we ended up getting this game when it stopped. Johnson was the wildcats coast scoring leader with guard desi sills each with 24 points. Texas' Abbott begins 3rd term promising safer schools
"Texas governor Greg Abbott is beginning his third term, promising safer schools. Abbott was sworn in for new term 8 months after a gunman with an AR-15 style rifle killed 19 children and two teachers at rob elementary school in uvalde. Parents must know that their children are going to be safe when they drop them off at school every single morning. ABBA did mention the shooting itself during his inaugural address and didn't offer any specific solutions. We will not end this session without making our schools safer. It's not clear yet if Abbott wants to run for president next year, but blames the current president for the record number of migrants crossing the U.S. Mexico border. The Biden administration is not enforcing the laws that are already on the books. I'm Ed Donahue
Adams scores late, No. 2 Kansas edges No. 14 Iowa St 62-60
"The second ranked Kansas Jay hawks are now 16 and one under coach Bill self after a 62 to 60 victory over 14th ranked Iowa state. A basket by KJ Adams with ten seconds left in the game was the game winner. Adams finished with 15 points, Grady dick led KU with 21. The cyclones had one last chance to tie it or win it in the last ten seconds, but a three point attempt before the final buzzer was off target, and Iowa states winning streak ended at 6. Greg eckland, Lawrence Kansas
No. 2 Kansas goes on late 18-4 run to beat Oklahoma 79-75
"Second ranked Kansas came from behind down the stretch to beat the Oklahoma sooners 79 to 75. Jayhawk sophomore KJ Adams scored a career high 22 points in the win. I feel like I could miss a couple of shots and no one would lose confidence in me. So that really did a lot for me tonight and after that I was just really aggressive, drawing thousand just playing loose. Okay, you trailed by as many as ten points in the second half, but the jayhawks kept the sooners without a field goal in the last two and a half minutes. The sooners were trying to win their first game at Allen fieldhouse since 1993. Greg eckland, Lawrence Kansas

"This happened. To the group stage for the Netherlands. First wide two threes gets the cross cut back. A moment. It's meant to score it. Of national trauma. And agony in 7 passes, and if you want to explain Dutch football in one goal, this, this would be it, telepathic, kinetic, kaleidoscopic movement, ruthless ruthless finishing, it was so beautiful. It was so painful, it was an artistic trauma. It was like watching the JV play the velocity. From a U.S. perspective, I watched her say, we are syntactically naive. We are so tired. The boys are shattered all over the field. They could keep up and it hurt all the more to be done like this to be beaten in the style that we have long for our own boys to play. And it hurt all the more because we walk right into it. As Elvis would sing, we were caught in a trap. We can't get out. Because I love my Travis Scott's just too much baby. And Greg long for us to play like a club site. And here we did, unfortunately, it was Everton.

"That is a little bit of a song called the shuffle man by Robin Hitchcock from his new album shuffle mania. Starting out as a folky in Cambridge, England, mister Hitchcock went on to front the very influential psychedelic pop band, the soft boys. This, at the height of the punk explosion in England, everybody was tearing everything down. And Hitchcock was singing with the soft boys. I wanted to destroy you, making fun of that attitude. After the soft boys, he started a long and fruitful solo career. He is now up to, depending on how you count. 22 solo albums. Hitchcock is living these days in Nashville with a partner Emma swift, who is collaborating on this album with him. You know, he apparently unusual in his long career. He's now 69. Went into a period of not writing any songs. Wondered if there was much point anymore. During the pandemic. Then he bounced back with a very productive songwriting spree, he tapped Greg long distance, some of his many fans and collaborators, including Johnny morrow, the Smiths, is on guitar, Sean Lennon. Obviously Hitchcock always a huge fan of Sean's dad. Wilco's pat sanson and others. So let's play a track from shuffle mania. We'll come back and give our opinions of this record. This is called the man who loves The Rain on sound opinions. Scattered in drops on my window hand he wrote I. Am the weather thing. I remind the love The Rain. That is the man who loves The Rain from the new Robin Hitchcock record shuffle mania. You know, you mentioned the guests on this record. He also reunited with soft boys alums. Yeah, Kimberly roo and Morris Windsor. Yeah, there was an actual soft boys reunion a couple of years, which is really cool. I almost feel like in some ways this is summing up record for Hitchcock. Is 2017 record, a self titled, was a late career, although Robin seems infinite, so I hesitate to call it late career. Timeless. But just a fantastic record. Yeah. I think this record is in the same league what that one, which means it's one of the best records of Hitchcock's career. You know, he calls it his party record, but with Hitchcock, it's always a little bit tongue in cheek as well. The party record in terms of some of the upbeat songs, you know, played shuffle man at the top, and that is an exuberant high energy track. And there are several others on this record. Mixed in with songs that are a little more poignant atmospheric, like the one we just played. The man who loves The Rain, an absolutely beautiful song. It says, respect the dead, you'll be joining them soon. Yeah. Respect the dad you will be joining the suit I think this record

He the thing with him was like, the problem with his pro career was like, dude, he'd be like, dude. I've got like the season and then when that's done 'cause he is all season as much as he possibly can, and then he's like, then I've got these four days after do Oakley, these 6 days after K two, I'm flying around doing these stupid photo shoots. They're like, getting this makeup put on me, and he's like, and all I want to be doing is riding my mountain bike and he's a dude. When he rides his mountain bike, if he cuts himself, he goes back to his hotel and he takes dental floss and he sells himself back up and he gets fucking back out there. He doesn't like go to the hospital. That's just like you're putting him on a tall dude that he is. He's a bad motherfucker. And like ski wise, like, you don't ski with him, you try to keep up and you don't and he just keeps going. If you're doing backcountry or cat stuff, I guess he has to kind of wait for you at the end. You know, where everybody can get in the cat, but when you're just taking laps and veil with Seth, you he loses you right away, and it's not that he's a dick, he's just so into it. And talking about, I remember having conversation about him talking about pro skiers and I think he was talking about, God, I wanted the dudes from Whistler. Greg, long ponytail. It doesn't matter what his name was, but he was like, dude, that guy's not pro. He's like a Carpenter in the summer. Skier. He's like, that's all I do is ski. Like I'm a professional skier. And he's like, takes that shit seriously. And I think he was very, you know, mysterious in his ways. That makes sense. But what a rad dude. And he was professing on a higher pedestal for me. I already think he's the best. And he's on a super high pedestal yeah. Yeah. And he deserved it. And the way he treated like his career when he cared about it because there was a point where he's like the best in social and he was all over it like early on. He was like putting stuff out there, but then I think he just got sick of the whole thing and sick of the game, and then when K two, whatever happened there? I mean, did that happen? And yeah, I think he was kind of over it. Yeah. So, but I don't know. I don't want to put words in his mouth. Yeah. I've asked him to the podcast. I have to, and it's never going to work. I'm so excited about it. I'm just going to send him a bunch of selfies of me like holding a Seth Morrison poster and maybe he'll give me he cares to share. I think there's anything nice to say..

I'm trying not to say that. And and i if it was benedict. Got an actor coming in and i had to sprint down and it was. It was a massive set in plyer in california where they where they they built. The spruce moose. This was what was it. Called with the preschools. This bs they build that plane there and it's a gigantic hanger and they build sets there. That are too big to go into film studios so we built the hangar of this ship. Vengeance and i had to run down and i i ran so fast and i just wanted to impress. Jj because he's back kind of guy because he he's very lovely man but you just want to do your best time. I sprinted down. And i fucking ran so fast and all the crew clapping and stuff and the little caught bike had to fight to keep up with me and i lied nailed it and it was like everyone's go like this at the end. And then jesuit man. That was great it again and again and then i had a little break and i recovered my heart rate. Went down to one hundred one thousand nine and then i did it again and by that time i was just letting. Jj we got we just do one more. We're going to change. Come in a bit closed. So i did it again and at the end of that i just went trailer for a quick and be back in a minute and i am against much just my lunch before. I didn't know we were doing this than i'd studying the whole plague of met say the catering america fantastic as a over there. I just because it might not happen. So so. i basically bombed up a lovely lunch ida very similar experience. How he's almost identical on this fister fund. There is to catch the boy who cried wolf. Yes i was routinely done for years and it was about a boy cried wolf and then it was delighting in making from run up the hill to and stuff. I just played one of the villages. I wasn't even made and we'd been out filming like we more place. We stayed in the hotel. And like i've got really pissed. I didn't do this all the time. We had to run up and down this hill so many times even just as the retail and then i wasn't even in the gender is as good story. I've seen a couple of interviews with the cast off. Because i think he should have scott. Powerfully this is how i get. The suicide confessions been kid who i am. You melted stephen fry. It seems like you have good. So cameraderie play playing practical jokes on each other on on the set of what. That wasn't that that i really like you hear about this. Sometimes you hear about the likes of clooney but pale playing jokes. And i'm not a big practical joker i don't like i don't like people. Get embarrassed lecomte watch any show. Anyone gets embarrassed like account. Watch any of the talent shows. Or i can't even watch strictly come dancing because i just don't like seeing people get embarrassed in any way and practical joke shows but i was i was in. We were filming at this nuclear facility in northern california coordinator if which is the national ignition facility where they are trying to create nuclear fusion by bombarding helium atoms with something and every seven hours. And they're trying to ignite a small son like in spite of onto which sounds quite dangerous but they they will when it happens. It will be a sustainable source of energy. Which will completely make. If it doesn't destroy the world doesn't suck us all in a war. I mentioned.

"That either work with the police or partnership with the police to respond to these situations. That is always going to help. But it's also really important. That police have de-escalation tools and alternatives to direct confrontation that is likely to escalate into a deadly force. Situation handrail. i. I'm hoping that there's a movement in this direction. And you know all i know is we. I think we talked to you last week. About lynn appropriating was at five hundred grand or something for similar sort of diversion cambridge city. Councils voting on something like this and boston are these aberration or is there finally some recognition in police departments across the country. That a that. This is the safer and by way. Cheaper according to most experts way to proceed with these these special kinds of situations. I think this could actually be a trend. I think things have reached a critical mass. Where the number of he's where Police are shooting and killing People who are in the throes of a mental health crisis when they respond to that situation. It's not to say that you know. In in some of the situations they respond to the person clearly can be armed can present danger to themself or themselves or others but the problem is that it ends up with that person dead and so there have been such a such an explosion of those reports recently and as i always say i think and i think maybe this is starting to happen when you look at what it costs to put. This kind of preventative stuff in place and you say well. That's really costly. If you're not considering settlements and judgments against police departments municipalities as a result of those deaths in those injuries when they are responding to these calls. You're not really calculating. The true cost so no matter how expensive it is. It's not really that expensive upfront. It is always going to cost you less than having the municipality or the department individual officers be sued And it costs you less in grief and sorrow and pain for the survivors of Of people who were killed. So i think i think it actually is a trend. I'm very hopeful that it's a trend and it's just smart. It's smart policing and it's good public safety. Let me just say one thing. You know a name that almost nobody knows greg long. Who's the acting head of. The boston polices happening on his watch. And he sort of under the radar after this dennis white fiasco of a month or so ago so good for him. Even an interim position implementing something that is so wise and so good. I we all think for the public. So little shoutout to a guy who's most people don't even know the name of so agree. I see holding things together. I think providing some good leadership..

They've tuned in on Wednesday and we go into a segment called Tech Tuesday. So let's not belabor the point. But let's remember that people probably are a little bit on edge. But we're going to be interrupted by the traffic alerts. Well, that's what's good because people are driving off the road crashing into what cats are marrying Dogs. Tech Tuesday on Wednesday I'm going to just go ahead and listen to the imp of the perverse cause trouble. I'm sorry. Yeah, I don't I don't mean to cause these problems, but really was you and your tummy. Right? So what happened? No, I was not tell me there was no problem. That was just We just took the day off. We're not talking about it, either, because you get bogged down in it took a day off. There was nothing wrong with me. I don't wish I could work to glazing sure that you've got a personal day here or there. That's what I did. I took a personal taking off my stuff. Okay, Let's move on then. That's not Chuck. Great, Ross. That's just right. Let's get right off. Greg Ross, somebody somebody I worked with yesterday mispronounced my last name, saying that she thought it was roost for for years at this point. Really? I don't know why. Why does he to Essex? I don't two essays. It's a razor. This simple. Look at it. It's exactly what you think It is. I don't This makes you angry. I know for a fact, you know? Greg Russ or Reus or Ross or Gruss Gourgue. Russ, who, uh, score still when he was like 22 was telling the story one night of When he graduated from high school. And the Lady got his name wrong, and she said roofs, and I just thought he's like so angry. He's looking at me like for me to go. Yeah, I'm just thinking like 22 or 23. Shouldn't you be over that by now? Is it? No, But it's commentary. It's the commentary. It's come insurance, human stupidity. Why? Why are you making things more difficult than they are? Well, yeah, My guess is I don't know how many people graduated that day, but she had a lot of names to say so she messed up your name, Russ. No, there's no way Russ could be someone's last day. That's so simple. That's a first name. Its gotta be drag Reus. It's It's You know, it's got to have your a connection. Absolutely awful. This morning. I thought we had this film. It was weird to work. Fine. The last couple. I don't know what it is that you have to enjoy having you on the shelf. But I mean, I'm sure that people are just tuning out. Not because they don't like you just because it's just well, what about Well done the years this equipment. All right, Well, listen, it doesn't matter because I know that you want to rent and rant and rage. But that ain't gonna get nothing fixed in the moment. So there you are. So that's where we are. So maybe we should reconnect. Give it a shot, trying to be positive about the future. Maybe maybe disconnect at a G to that name, Greg. Missing a G. That's what it is. Why don't you act like a G r e g g Greg? And, uh, try to do something about this. So you try to reconnect and we'll say, did I did you did reconnect. I didn't hear anything, he said. When you guys were talking about adding extra G's and stuff. Yeah, well, you sound so you still sound pretty terrible. But go ahead with your first tech Tuesday story. Just let me come back at 11. 30. Okay. You want to go back there? Are you in a good mood? You still love everybody at the Von Hester Doctrine. Yeah, I still like you. I just don't know. Yeah, Jesic none. Just Greg. How old are you? Doesn't matter. How old How old are you? What? What kind of trying to make the plant trying to make is sometimes you don't just blow off the steam. You work within the system and you accept what you get from that, And that's okay. The blowing off steam part is what you do when you're 25. So we'll talk to you and 30. You hold on. I've seen you blow off steam. You know what you are about to call out very close to calling out Names, perhaps position that's not people in management. I know how you are. That is not what was going to happen at the audience. It's not their fault that they're trying to listen to a show and you're ruining it were crappy proof. Exactly. That's that's why I get so worked up. Yeah, If if you know, working through, it isn't really an option. The option is to go away because we can't work through it with the back. Well, I think that we need to send you a new piece of equipment, which I asked about, and I was told, I don't know what the response to that was, but there is a piece of equipment in this world. But I believe will heal this completely. I'll buy one. Just tell me what it is. I'll buy it myself. Well, I don't even know if it's just you gotta get it Wholesale or whatever. I have no idea. Don't go down to Radio shack if they still existed and find this piece of equipment, But I believe there's a piece of equipment that autumn is using right now. For instance, in the night that I used when I was down in Florida that we ought to We ought to get to you. So the company needs to line up 17 or 18 people to explain to me why we can't do that. And then if I say no. Then I win and 17 people go away and say, Oh, I guess that guy has more leverage than me. I don't like that, but that's the way that it is. I've been talking to Greg long enough. Now that I am beating, beating, beating that biting the hand that feeds me so It's wrong Losing. I'm losing it. I can't find words anymore. You took it there more. You got me all rattled. I'm not Greg Ross. More no matter what you say, Joe Biden. Hey, Hey, that more. Well, maybe now a piece of equipment. Perhaps I will. I don't want anyone looking at what I get paid because I feel as though someone summers like, why do we pay them anything? So let's I've had that conversation many times with people s All right. You go away and we'll see if we can get somehow get this fixed because we had it fixed before. Weird. Yeah, although we've done the research and people love to listen to people talk about technical difficulties on the radio. So go away and will be back at 11 30 that works. We'll give you We'll give you a shot. We'll give you a shot, kid. We'll see how it goes. Okay, I'll be back. You want to do more? Uh, this is interesting. Yeah, I've got one right here for you. Plaguing the boston police department. Andrew brown joins us talk. They're growing credibility problem with look at what it will take to restore trust. And all this means as we head into the summer time of increased violence without a permanent police. Commissioner i'm jared villain in for merger again. We moved from turmoil and the boston police department to the controversy's erupting within the boston school committee. It started months ago and its chair. Michael condo was caught on a hot mike mocking asian names. Now more school committee members are stepping down for disparaging texts about the quote unquote white racists of west roxbury. We'll talk to paul rebel about the racial tensions persist and the boston school system along with other education headlines. That's next on boston public radio. Welcome back to our number. Two of boston public radio. I'm jim geraghty. Marjorie has the day off. She's back tomorrow. Executive arts editor. Jared bone is sitting in logan jar. Jim joins the line for this. Week's addition of law and order former suffolk county sheriff former secretary of public safety for massachusetts. And now the ceo of hello andrew low. Jim hey jared how are ya andrea person. Who's makes my blood pressure always calmed down. I love hearing always affect on me. That's incredible subject matters different. I love talking to andrea to start out. Let's talk about the former boston. Police commissioner now very formerly former Now that he has been fired. What does this do to the police department. As jim has teased. There's a lot going on with the boston. Police departments all a mess. We'll talk about the overtime scandal with you in a moment as well but this has been a department that's been embroiled in this back and forth for months. Now we know it. It's like if anybody who's been in business knows what it's like when you don't have a boss. So where does this leave the the department. Well yes. There is definitely when it rains. It pours there's definitely been a whole lot happening With the department lately and i think one of the things that wasn't focused on until recently is the fact that The civil service protection that ordinarily comes with the job of being a boston police officer. You know when you become the commissioner And even i think depending on the role to a lesser extent other supervisory roles you lose That civil service protection and so in terminating him from the position of commissioner. He's he's also effectively fired as a boston. Police officer which you know in terms of the policy and how the police see things and you know what much of the energy around contract negotiations has been devoted to is Gonna create generate a lot of discussions so He's he's essentially Removed from the force Now greg long has been The interim commissioner. And you know as i said i think last week. The departments especially law enforcement agencies Are built to withstand changes in leadership in terms of the day to day running and sort of the supervisory hierarchy. That's in place so You know while. I think it certainly has roiled at the department. I think there's probably a certain amount of unsettled feeling in the department You know my assumptions. That greg long has been performing his interim superintendent the way superintendent with but you know i have to say my approach this while his long been written and spoken about what. You're talking about andrew corollas. How well can they department function. Will this chaos. They're having to deal with particularly as summer is upon us and obviously violence concerns rise in summer unless worried about that. I have more confidence in their ability to do their job. Just like you said a minute ago. I'm more worried about how the public sees the police in this town. I was always you know those other police departments that have those problems and i tried to step back last week and think if there was another. Let's say new york city if we read in the paper that one week twenty year cop and a former union president was credibly accused of cereal. Child-molestation we'd say boy that's bad. Thank goodness doesn't happen here and thank goodness and then we read by the way. It's very likely that some people in high places knew about it a lot at the happen then we hear after new police. Chief is appointed a two days later ups. The mayor didn't know what was going on. And he's credibly accused least some say. Obviously mayor janey says of domestic violence. Then we read as that's playing out. Oh by the way you thought the state police in that state there were corrupt. Some of them when it comes to overtime well. They're dwarfed by boston. Cops you digest that and then two days later the main accuser of dennis waive his former wife shows up on a list in the. Us attorney's office as another person who's doing fraudulent overtime. Finally even though she hasn't been prosecuted. And be i don't know so you're a resident of this city. Tell me how the average person says well. That's a police force that i can trust. Well i can't. It's almost impossible for me to look at it as an average citizen because i was You know i was in it for you know from for most of my career So i'm not i. It's difficult for me to have an objective opinion. But to your point. I can certainly understand Any member of the public Looking at it and Being angry and I think you know i. I actually checked out every once in a while. I watch greater boston. Jim quietest watched your interview with. I watched your interview with lydia edwards And yeah we'll miller from the banner and you you know you you essentially athlete. Ed was the question and she said. I don't my responses. I don't blame them her. Constituents yes that that may have been before this latest this latest article but they you know there was a certain peeling the onion that that is going on here and You know there are. There are lots of sort of carefully. Crafted efforts Over decades of time to make sure that that onion never gets peeled. So that when you do when you finally do what you find underneath. It is a lot of stuff that is going to be deeply concerning keith lee troubling and and that's part of the reason for the calls for reform is because you know what kept from public view they segment ignorance may be bliss but in the long run. It can come back to bite you the stuff that people haven't known that's gone on for years and years and years you know is an issue and this is a perfect opportunity to really take a look. You know Under the hood and to figure out all of the areas that need to have reform. And you know. This is touching a lot of different areas of the police department and it's probably hugely disheartening. You know a a morale Plunger essentially for officers that.

"You know what marx called our army of labor which was a problem because when there are too many people to a a to Fill the number of positions that are available workers lose power so now there's at least a perception that workers are desired. As opposed to the other way around right so this is the time potentially where this leverage can have an impact but we have to be very careful because the the notion of Not enough people to fill. Jobs always comes under question of in their their reason. Why employer employers say that. They'll often say that are not enough trained workers at there's a skills gap of it in fact workers who are seriously looking from roy are willing to train them and are willing to pay them adequately There's a large part of the workforce for both men and women are little leery about coming back right now for good reason. They have childcare issues of other issues. On some people we have to keep in mind have long covid. So they're disabled to some degree at this point but quite a few actually. So they've dropped out of the workforce but potentially temporarily so this is a temporary potentially a temporary situation and i hope that employees can build on it. I'm hopeful. I do wanna make another pitch around mask wearing in the importance of protecting ourselves. We are still in a pandemic. We've made real progress. Which i'm really proud of But it is important that we continue to do the things that will keep us safe. The guidance right now is if you are vaccinated you can remove mass. We that only i just told you more than half Vaccinated means that. They're still almost half that aren't vaccinated. I don't know that that is what we're seeing out of these windows here. It's like hundred percent vaccination and so it is important to also remember when we're in crowds of people that we should even if we are vaccinated. We should continue to do the things that are that protect us and that includes washing our hands and keeping our distance. We need to continue to do what will keep us safe and that is why. We've made the progress that we've made because boston residents have stepped up to the plate of because our community partners have been helping with the equitable equitable dispute distribution of vaccines.
