"Say nothing's gonna save you as for hanging out with us. You know this is a week that will be remembered. For hurricane Ian and one of the interesting things that I saw that was going down about this is there's a lot of places that almost never close that have closed for hurricane Ian. Disney World being a good example. Oh boy. I mean, the theme parks in Florida don't close down for much. It's like the pandemic and a couple other times. These places have shut down. They want to generate money. And you don't do that by being closed. So come hell or high water, you try to keep the doors open. But when you got a big ass hurricane coming, you got to shut all sorts of stuff down. Sure. I was thinking, what is the dream place? The absolute dream place to ride out a hurricane like hurricane Ian. Would it be like in an abandoned theme park wandering around doing whatever you wanted to? I thought I'd want it to be abandoned. I'd want it to be a place that is not going to lose power. Yeah, you want something that's got real solid power. So you're talking about places that would be fun while you have to hunker down. Yeah, if you're going to be hiding out from the hurricane anyways, that you're right, that's an important thing to add to the list because you definitely want power stability. Somebody yesterday while we were doing the show, texted in. Like, I've got my hurricane hack. Three Tesla powerwalls. And I'm like, that's where I'd like to be. Rich. Did you get an invite or no? No, no, no, no. Yeah, you want somewhere where they've got like a lot of backup power. I feel like an underground bunker. That same but you get that weird like claustrophobic claustrophobia that's attached to it for some reason. There has to be like a big one, right? Even like Disney World has their whole underground city. Oh yeah, that's right. That would be cool to be running around there as long as there's not water flowing into it right now. You wouldn't want that situation. I mean, there's lots of stuff that you could do to ride this thing out. Amy on YouTube says the airport, but only if every store was open. I don't know if you're going to get that. That's one of the problems. R nought has a really good point here. R nought on YouTube says a big box store has everything you need. Oh yeah. So if you were in like a target or something. And when we've watched any of the post apocalyptic kind of TV shows, like what was the one that they released recently, they didn't renew it, which has kind of bummed about. Where is it an evil? No. No, the one where all the guys die. I watched that. It was so good and I forgot the name of it. It was really good, but remember that gang of women that was holed up in a former Best Buy or something like that or a Costco or something and they had all the supplies. They did good buy it. And they like were armed and all that's true. They're guns at some of those places. And so it was like, nobody's messing with us because this place has everything we need. The guns, of course, are good so you can shoot the hurricane. Yes, floridians are wont to do. I'm surprised no one put that plan together before Ian. No, I've seen a Facebook invite to some shoot the hurricane events. Pierce on YouTube says a Walmart, all those games, beer everything, gator on Twitch says Bass Pro Shops, which I mean, that would be okay. That's got the guns, but I mean, I'm really thinking about like, if you like it because of that giant aquarium. Be great. I would assume with the fish. I probably go fishing in there. You can have all kinds of activities. Oh, and also boats there in case the whole place was. Oh, that's true. That makes Bass Pro Shops go to the top of the list, actually. If the world is flooded and you're at the place with all the boats, that's a solid land. But they don't have a lot of food, right? Unless they open up that attached restaurant. If they do, it's all like really weird camping food. Yeah, like MREs and water to this bag and it becomes lasagna. But it's not great lasagna. After a month of that you go, I'm gonna kill some of the fish in this Bass Pro Shops tank to survive this. I'm gonna eat a clown fish. Scotty ray on YouTube goes another direction, a hospital. They have drugs, a cafeteria, and a backup generator. The hospital riding out a hurricane is gonna be a very good place as far as keeping the power goes. Speaking of drugs, this poor lady in front of me at 7 11 this morning, she has a kite. No, she was kind of the talkative type, you know? It's the older lady talkative type and I can't believe it. And she goes, I can't believe Walgreens is closed. They texted me to pick up my prescription and their clothes. Oh no. Oh my God, that sucks. Yeah, old people have a different set of problems during some storms like this. When you get a hurricane Ian, there's gonna be a problem. Steve says, the hospital would be perfect if you could kick out all the sick people. Monsters. You absolute monsters. Man, there's many many places where it would be a fun spot, I think, too, to ride out a hurricane. And a safer spot is spot where you had all the things that you want, but Disney World evacuated as hurricane Ian approached this catastrophic hurricane flooding everywhere, really bad wins. You saw what it did to Cuba. You saw what it did to some of these other spots that got hit and so of course they knew ahead of time. You got to shut some of this stuff down. I was watching this waffle House still open. Oh, that's a good question I think waffle houses are still open. Yeah. They're the holdouts. That's the one where you really know. Waffle House and apparently royal Caribbean. Yes, you still have to go. It's still not canceled. So at this point, I'm like, do I kind of have to go or I lose all that money? Here's why Sabrina asked that question. Let me show you something here. This is true. I'm not going to make this up. This is absolutely true. This is the Wikipedia entry on it. It's called the waffle House index. And it says the waffle House index is an informal metric named after the waffle House restaurant chain to determine the effect of a storm and the likely scale of assistance required for disaster recovery. It was coined by former administrator Greg Craig fugate of the federal emergency management agency or fema, the metric is unofficially used by fema to inform disaster response. So they actually look at this. Like fema takes a look at the guy what's going on with the waffle House index. The index is based on waffle house's reputation for having good disaster preparedness and staying open during extreme weather or reopening quickly afterwards. The original quote that started all this. If you get there and the waffle House is closed, that's really bad. They have three levels over at waffle House for the waffle House index. Green, which is their full menu, the restaurant has power in the damage is limited or no damage at all. They have yellow, which is a limited menu, no power or only power from a generator, or food supplies might be low, and then red, which if it's red on the waffle House index, you're in for some trouble. That means the restaurant's closed and it indicates severe damage or severe flooding. It's pretty crazy, but it's actually something that they use, just like they use the Big Mac index for

"Talk about it. You know what I thought is so telling that just, you know, it's part of what Eric boehler talked to us about every week in the both sides do it thing in the media is that reportedly from this book, they went to the DoJ and said, okay, you arrested two Republicans. So now you got to now you have to even it out before the midterms and do Democrats. Well, the difference is the Republicans were guilty and went to prison. Chris Collins and who was the other one. Duncan, what's his name? Yes, yes. And so then they try to go after Greg Craig and John Kerry, who are innocent. Of anything. As they said, don't do it. There's no case. And what happened? A different state's attorney or U.S. attorney took up the case and lost. Right. So he's the tax dollars they wasted time. They hurt justice in the process. All to settle a political vendetta of the trumps. Right. I mean, it just could not be clearer, Carl. Both sides do not do it. You know, if you look at the numbers of indictment, Obama administration compared to Republican administrations, it's not even close. It's been in the Justice Department for a very long time that he has never, ever, ever seen such a thing go down. By the way, I can't wait to talk to our friend our new friend, Michael Cohen, about that the part in the book about that. You know, that they wanted him to overturn Cohen's conviction because at that time he was on their side. Right? I mean, oh, it's just we just never heard of such corruption. It makes Nixon look like a piker, right? Meeting leader at this point. Yeah. Well, you know, Carl, I'm curious. I know, the problem is, of course, you've got to prove all of this, but dashboard, tweets, more Trump illegally stole classified nuclear documents and human Intel from The White House during his presidency and unprecedented uptake of deaths among CIA agent agents in U.S. spies and foreign territories began occurring. This is not coincidence. This is espionage in plain sight. The problem is going to be can they ever prove that, right? Well, they can certainly do the assessment. And this is something that Glenn Fischer has been talking about quite a bit is how this process rolls out, right? Now that we know and we've known for a while, what documents were taken, they need to try and track down exactly what happened with these documents so that they can actually assess the damage that's been done. This is why this special master thing is such a. The Trump judge who's saying, no, you can investigate the damage done. You can't start the process off in the way that leads you to knowing whether damage has been done. That's right. Yeah, one last one, Andrew younger said the same thing. The fact that CIA agents were killed captured or compromised because Trump sold their names to our enemies should be a much bigger story. Well, we don't know that for sure yet, but knowing everything we do know, based on what we saw, you know, while he was in office, right? But I wonder that's part of what he's trying to stop is them doing this investigation. He could even be negligence. Look, you're talking about a guy who used to show things off to people. You're talking about a guy who the Russians in the Oval Office. Remember, right? Yeah, yeah. It's relaying around Mar-a-Lago. Who knows who had access to them? And that's part of the problem here. Yeah. Yeah, absolutely. Well, to be continued, Carl, you remain a delight and a future delegate of the great. Health if you can. Let's get him over the finish line. Yes, please. That's sexy liberal magic. Continue to sprinkle it on my friend Carl. All right, love you, Carl. See you next week. Thanks, Carl. There he goes. 46 minutes after the hour, this portion of the show brought to you by worthy you are worthy. Don't say it. Yes, you are. I am totes worthy. Oh, you didn't say anything. Okay. You know that diamonds are where you have that you're not wearing from a divorce inheritance, just something sitting in your jewelry box. I just did it. I've got rid of dungeons. Yeah, how long has it been since I've had good romantic shoot you? That was it. Oh, you've had a friend last week. And I got a cold hard case. There's a new easy way to get money for that jewelry. It is called worthy. This is why this is the best place to do it. It's a platform

"The U.S. is bracing for a massive freight rail strike. And Ukraine's military success triggers some new concerns. For more, let's get to the newsroom and Bloomberg's Denise Pellegrini Denise. Thank you, Brian. That's right. And let's start with Ukraine because former CIA and defense secretary Leon Panetta says Ukraine's big wins lately against Russia. Well, that's putting the focus on Russian president Vladimir Putin and what he might do. And the real issue is whether Putin now strikes back. He already has hit back on the infrastructure, whether he resorts to more, you know, including the possibility of battlefield nuclear, all of that creates a dangerous moment here. And Panetta there on Bloomberg's balance of power. Amtrak is cutting some long distance routes on freight tracks and other trips. Labor secretary Marty Walsh trying to get railroads in two of the nation's largest rail freight unions to reach a deal, a deadline is Friday and they could strike if they don't reach a deal Bloomberg's Joe Matthew calls the timing awful. This is not good timing with the leader to have this hit while our economy is just starting to slow down. And having such issues with our supply chains. And that strike could impact a third of rail freight in the U.S. and House majority leader steny Hoyer tells us Congress could end up stepping in. Explosive new claims that former president Trump used his Department of Justice to go after critics, Jeffrey Berman, former U.S. attorney in Manhattan, says in his new book, the Trump era DoJ pressured him to pursue criminal cases against Trump's perceived enemies including former Secretary of State John Kerry. Bourbon says the Justice Department asked him to level things by prosecuting a prominent democratic attorney, Greg Craig. We were investigating Greg Craig and were pushed by the Justice Department to indict Greg Craig at Democrat before the midterm elections. The Justice Department told us, hey, you had just indicted two allies of the president, Chris Collins, who is a Republican congressman from upstate New York, and Michael Cohen, who is the president's lawyer and fixer, and it's time for you guys to even things out. And the Senate Judiciary Committee now says it will investigate those claims that you just heard Berman make. "That's what this is about. Let's keep rolling the tape, please. Neither one went to trial. Holder claimed executive privilege, which was enough, even after a judge ruled that executive privilege did not apply in Eric holder's case, but it didn't matter. He walked. Lois learner cited the Fifth Amendment. It was as simple as that. Both of them today learner and holder are free and richer than ever. But these standards do not apply to Steve Bannon. Steve Bannon was subpoenaed by the January 6th committee despite the fact he had literally nothing to do with January 6th. And we know that because he left The White House three years before it happened, but it didn't matter. He annoyed the wrong people, so he's going to jail. Now, this shouldn't surprise you really because we've been building toward this moment for some time. You might recall Gregg Craig, that would be Barack Obama's former White House counsel. He was acquitted of violating the foreign agents registration act, Farah, back in 2019, he'd been working for Ukraine. Now, at almost exactly the same moment, Paul Manafort, who hired Greg Craig to work on Ukraine, was convicted of violating the same law, Farrah. All right, so on the hold it there, hold it there. So you get it? If you happen to be Republican or if you work with Trump or if you're a conservative, you get punished, but those that are that are in cahoots with the Democrat party or if you're a Democrat, you don't. So the rules apply to you, but they don't apply to Democrats. Why is this dangerous? Because they're building a society of the have and have nots. They're building a society of the bourgeois and the proletariat. They're building a society where you don't matter. The only the elites matter. And we are getting so close to this. We are getting so close to losing America. That if we don't stand up and speak out, guys, it isn't just about speaking out against the Democrats. It's speaking up to the Republicans the weak need punks that won't do anything about this. If Republicans don't do something about this, be getting less, I understand, they don't have The White House in 2022 or 2023 once they come in office. Hopefully they'll win both the House and the Senate. And they'll stop this insane spending and some of these insane regulations that are happening with the Biden administration. But this has to be corrected. If we don't live in a society with equal laws and equal protection, regardless of your political leanings, if I commit a murder, I should go to prison for murder or be sentenced to death. If you commit a murder, the same should happen to you. That's our society. That's equal, equal, equal equal equal protection under the law. But if that doesn't exist, we no longer have a constitutional America. We no longer have a rule of law. Let's continue, please. Account for Ukraine. How does that work exactly? It seems like a double standard. And indeed, it is a double standard, but it's a consistent standard. We've seen it again and again and again. Former Clinton attorney Michael sussman was just acquitted by a D.C. jury of lying to the FBI that happened in May. The theory was that really who knows what Michael sussman told the FBI about nonexistent Russian servers in Trump Tower. Okay. As long as you're using that theory, does it work for everyone? Well, it didn't work for George papadopoulos, didn't work for Michael Flynn, on the other hand, neither one of those guys had a key card to FBI headquarters, like Michael sussman did. And that came in handy that relationship. But Mike Flynn didn't have that relationship, his life was destroyed. Why? Because if handwritten notes by Peter struck, who you can now see on MSNBC. But their conversation in The White House about Russian sanctions. Get him to lie the head of counter intelligence at the FBI wrote to struck, speaking of Flynn, so in the basis of that, the setup, they hounded Mike Flynn into poverty, the same thing happened in George papadopoulos..

"Can't hear the music what's going on and so that was fun with you tonight. It's aria nikki and bonnie and of course yesterday was election day. Not that i really care about the vast majority of it however main did have a constitutional amendment on its ballad. That would make what the media is calling a right to food amendment. But that's not it at all. When i saw that article the headlines about it i just ignored it because okay. There's some hard left thing where people have the right to food or whatever but that's actually not what it is at all and it did actually pass. So that's awesome. So let me tell you what this is. A statewide referendum ask voters if they favored amendment to the constitution quote to declare that all individuals have a natural inherent and unalienable right to grow race harvest produce and consume the food of their own choosing for their own nourishment sustenance bodily health and wellbeing. It was it was an experiment not tried before by any state and i would. I wouldn't mind seeing this. Go on new hampshire. Basically against assures that people have the right to grow food on their property in to eat it. And i wonder if that's the same as the right to farm because i know there's a lot of right to farm communities in the area. It sounds very much like the same thing but then i bet the farm has some specific definition that. Oh this isn't technically farming. You're not farming correctly. We're gonna pour bleach on your soil or whatever you know. Also true in this would include livestock presumably as well as actual gardening supporters. Use the campaign to make the case the would ensure the right to grow vegetables and raise livestock in an era when corporatization threatens local ownership of the food supply they position the amendment as a chance for mainers to wrestle control of the food supply back from large landowners and giant retailers with little connection to the community and again. I wouldn't mind seeing something like this in new hampshire. I would vote if such a thing actually came around. Only two opponents cast the drive as deceptively vague. They also said it represented a threat to food safety and animal welfare. Oh because you can't just let people grow their own food or raise their own animals. Wait for them to say that. It's an animal welfare issue is laughable. Because if you've seen the conditions in factory farming that animals have to live in. I'm sure anybody's local farm could be better. I don't understand how it could be worse. Yeah the country farms conditions that are okayed by government yet. Most people have no idea how bad factory forms really aren't. And i didn't know how bad they were until i watched a movie called food incorporate And yeah they are horrific man. I watched one of those. My grandma had been watching. Two thousand sixteen in yellow was horrible. There's two of them that i would recommend food. Inc is really good. The other one is earthlings is much to watch and a lot of people come away from it being a vegan. I didn't come away from it as a vegan. But i did come away as a it changed my perspective on animal rights for sure. Today ian ordered veal and i was like. That's the meanest meet the. It could encourage residents to try to raise cows in their backyards in cities like portland and bangor. I don't necessarily see an issue with that and look if my neighbors wanna get some cows in their backyard. That's their backyard. This was an issue in One of the city's massachusetts people wanted to have chickens in their backyard and even if they had adequate amount of space and it was kind of more of a rural area of the city. It was legal so people had chickens and it was like a big deal because people had chickens in the backyard in the animal control. People came over and made them get rid of their chickens stupid. You don't need that much room for chickens. You don't see how they'll cause issue actually looked into this recently and in in keene you can have up to five chickens. I think in your backyard with no other limits whatsoever. I don't remember all the specifics but you don't have to jump through hoops to have up to five chickens for whatever that's worth in your backyard although you do have to get licenses stuff like that for your dog but not your chickens. It's all very stupid. And that frustrates me. I didn't even know. That was the thing when i took my puppy to the vet to get her. Rabies shot. i think. Got a letter a few weeks later from the city of saying hey at your earliest convenience come by and licensed your dog or whatever so we can prove that she's been vaccinated but the only reason they became aware of the existence of my dog was because the vaccinated against rabies made them aware. Yeah i know the same thing happened to me is so what are you going to do about it right. I mean we know what. What are you gonna do about your letter. I'm ignoring my. Yeah i put through the shredder. Screw marketed told me that. I needed to write them back in say three things. One proved that this animal is a dog to prove that this animal lives at my house and three proved that i own this animal and then they never wrote them back so they probably just didn't want to deal with. He also has mark ever lived within the city of keene or did like starter. Do not stipend gets a whole new hampshire thing or something because i know in concord. There was like big things where everybody who didn't want to register their dogs when it tried to like sue at the same time they dropped it. Do they dropped all. They're like they were trying to go after them. It varies by city and town. I think like in westmoreland. You don't have to do anything. I don't think winchester requires anything but keen of course is liberal and they do do it in the trash because that stupid yeah. The vet ensured that my dog was fascinated against rabies given the king the city of keene. Twenty five dollars is not going to help prove that. My dog is vaccinated against rabies. Well it's really just a fee because you have a dog and it has nothing to do with. Why would you need to get your dog licensed. That doesn't even make sense does it. You don't have to get your cats licensed for which i guess is good but i'm also not getting my dog licensed because it's none of their business and it said at my earliest convenience. Okay we're already done with this conversation because it's never ever going to be convenient for me by the city of keene and give the money. That's the least convenient thing i can think about. Even if even if city hall wasn't located at one the most difficult spots to drive in keene still not convenient to just drop off and give the government twenty five dollars. No thank you. I at my earliest convenience. I will do it sure. But it's never ever going to be convenient so anyway getting back to this article about the right to grow food. Senator greg craig hickman. A democrat lifetime supporter of the admendment said. He was inspired by this legislative session by the amount of bipartisanship that went into the admendment. I'm surprised that democrat was on board with hearing the criticisms about food safety and animal welfare those would be democratic talking points. But hey bipartisan. That's great the proposal. Amendment was the result of effort by members of the state's food sovereignty movement. The moment includes small farmers raw milk fans libertarians. Who should be moving to new hampshire liberals anti-corporate activists who feel local communities should have more of a say in the future of the food supply main enacted a food sovereignty law in two thousand seventeen that low allows local governments to okay small food producers selling directly to customers on site other states around the country passed similar laws in the year since maine passed. Its law i imagine. New hampshire has one as well because there are former markets and stuff everywhere. And no one seems to ever care or do anything about it. So kudos to maine for this. The main farm bureau the largest forming advocacy group in the state opposed the new constitutional amendment. Of course they did. Because they're a union representing that supposed to protect companies like tyson. The grisly said tuesday. The bureau respected the will of the voters. It's prepared to support main formers as this amendment is enacted and as always stands clear in its resolve to protect and embrace food safety and animal welfare standard for all people in maine said the bureau's executive director. So go ahead. When i lived in or not live demand up there working. There was a girl that was from there that told me when she was a kid she was just.

I've got the book in front of me and I know that We're gonna talk about the book covering a second but the title double solitaire. Does it have anything to do with the game itself was on. I think that the what i mean by the by the title was somebody. Who's w alone. And i think that many characters in this book are doubly alone The truth is was a game. I used to play with my mother And i've been trying to work. Spoke onto a a novelist a title for wealth. Forty years but I think this is a book or really did fit. I've never played double solitaire. Actually looking up for before i called in to talk to you about this because i was curious about the connection between the game and the some of the characters in the book that i read and so. I assume that you're allowing twice as much right. That's right and in fact i am one version of book. Feral teaches the kids who he goes to visit the kids having a terminally ill out how to play double solitaire. Because if anybody's w alone it's a teenage kid who stein and by the way. I really enjoyed the book. It took me to a part of the country. I'll pass through now. We're gonna talk a bit more bad debt. on the writing life segment patriot but but The setting itself nighttime Maybe a long exposure on the land. I wouldn't say race You know i had a nineteen fifty-six chevrolet and He was in his ac cobra and Let's see him on a mulholland drive. "Does continue here on WTMJ. My name is Matt Paulie live at American Family Field manager Craig Counsell met with the media just a little while ago opened up talking about the decision. Not to celebrate tonight but instead to wait on winning the division. Yeah. I mean, I think you know, we've been pretty consistent there and you know, we we've put ability to win the division. You know, in our control, um And so that that's our goal. I think we're sticking to that goal work. Thrilled to have, you know, kind of Know that we're in the playoffs. I think everybody is thrilled with that. But, you know, I mean, I think the goal that we feel like we've had earned the right to You know to to wait for is this winter version. Craig, Do you have an update on Lorenzo? And why you got bull and I kind of assumed that was off that catch, but, you know, Yeah, it was from the player. The incredible play made up with Contreras fall. Um You know, as as he just kind of as the game went on a little bit is his right. Groin. Just got sore. So you know, we're not really sure how he did. It honestly didn't feel it kind of initially when he Made the catch her when we were out there talking to them just kind of knocked the wind out of him a little bit. Um, but as a couple innings, progress, the growing became source, So we got him out of there. Alright. How cool is it to see Manny with a game like tonight, especially with the way he struggled offensively to start the season. Well, you know, that's why we play the whole season because Manny is not struggling lately. That's so he's put together really nice season. Um, the power that is Shown as as been impactful. The runs he's driven in have been impactful. Um, I mean, he's turning in his best offensive season. Really, Um, you know, that's that's not Done with batting average, but it's been done with power and home runs and driving in runs. So he's having a really good offensive season and tonight was kind of capped it off. Really? Greg Craig. Tonight's game is sort of like a back and forth home run Derby. You've had a home where they did a homer. You did a hard and then you guys had the last one with Manny, second one, but that is kind of unusual kind of game wasn't Yeah, well, like like, we don't pick who we beat. We don't get to pick what kind of game there is. Um, and so you know you You gotta be good offensively and you've got to score more runs. And we, um We? You know, we did a little differently than we've been doing it here the last week. Um, but we were due to hit some home runs. Frankly, we hadn't We hadn't had one in a while, so they came in Bunches on the on the same night. Greg, What is it? Uh, all tell you that Corbyn that once started can go from pitching, You know, eight innings of no head ball, And then the next start, he's able to fight through. You know, like stuff like that posing pictures. First MLB hitting the M O B. Just he can fight through that still give you a quality start. Yeah. I mean, I was really happy with how Corbyn hail the sixth inning. You know, he ran into some trouble. Um And, uh, you know more. You know, you have a hit, You know that was going to happen tonight. Um, but how we handle that last inning? Um, I thought it was great. He was, you know, he was getting to the end there. And, um, you know, he made some huge pitches to put up a zero. Um and that was that was the cool part about tonight for me is that You know, Every game is not going to go. Perfect. You're not going to be perfect every night. Um and but sometimes that zero in the sixth after you've given up three is still is still a huge Part of the game and helps you win a ball game and that's what he did tonight. Thanks. So much of your division lead has been built by, uh, feeding the Cubs assure your 15 and three against some 11 straight wins of on every series. I believe that's you guys have often battle them down to the wire, but it's been different this year hasn't Yeah, we've We've played well against them, Um No, it's it's you know, like, I I can't explain that, but we played well against them. It's just well in your vision, right? I mean, you know you, you guys, You're leading your division because you beat the teams in your division. Wow. I mean, we've played well this year. Yeah, yeah. We've got 91 wins. We've been our were played. Well, you know, throughout most of the year here Anything else? This is surprise you, Craig that the Cardinals are pressed and so hard now, seven straight wins for them, you know there. Delaying your magic number as far as against them. That surprised you, or sort of expected I mean, this is this is how it works in September. You still have If you keep yourself close, you have the opportunity to get hot and get yourself in that It's what the wild card was kind of made for, Um, is to allow teams to do something like this. So Credit to them. They have gotten hot at the right time, and they put themselves in a good position. That's manager Craig Counsell, speaking with the media just a little while ago Brewers get the win over the Cubs 64 just another reminder.

"Military commissions and when i was making the rounds in the jag community in the run-up to the obama administration during the transition they made a pretty impassioned case to me that with a reform system. We can make this work. We should make this work. And historically this is how you prosecute people in armed conflict who been captured on the battlefield. The jag community was most upset at the provisions in the military commissions. Act of two thousand six that permitted the use of cigna statements taken as a result of cruel in human degrading treatment. They wanted that eliminated and so they convinced me. That reform military commissions could work. And that was the discussion in the interagency process leading up to the decision in may two thousand nine by president obama to work with congress before military commissions and make them work and in the situation room around the table in principle. Committee meetings and deputies committee meetings the debate. Best of my recollection was principally between me and greg greg. Carolco had not been confirmed yet. If he had he would have been in the middle of this. And greg made the case that we should scrap the whole system. Use article three courts. I made the case for east. Some of the detainees we should retain the system and use the system. And an answer to your question. If i had the crystal ball then to say that we'd be sitting here in july twenty twenty one more than twelve years later and the nine eleven defendants. The the sheree defendant still not gone to trial. I'd say Really and probably think different about the idea. we don't get we. Don't get the benefit of that. My jay you frame this this debate that was going on as of purely substantive and i'm sure in your case it was but as you know there was also politics swirling around this issue and my recollection from my reporting at the time and actually going into two thousand and ten because there was there was a plan being pushed by greg craig. And then attorney. General eric holder and accepted by president obama to try college muhammad and the others in article three civilian courts. And then it right and then it blew up. And my my recollection from the time. Was that the big reason it blew up in terms of the politics was that republicans in congress. And the senate particularly lindsey. Graham was dangling this idea of a grand bargain for the obama administration. Give in on this issue of military commissions which he was adamant about as a former jag officer himself. He insisted that this be done. As these trials be done in military commissions and i will get on board. You're the grand bargain was. I'll help you close guantanamo. And the obama administration president obama himself and rahm emanuel kind of went for that so it wasn't politics a big part of this at the time politics always plays raw some degree to which politics plays a role. I recall then at dan. You're an excellent reporter with fantastic sources. But i was in the room. I recall that politics itself did not play a major role in decision making around the table. Law and a host of other considerations did play a role your your your refreshing my memory about the posture of lindsey graham. This was the lindsey graham of two thousand nine by the way. Not lindsey graham of twenty twenty one. This was the lindsey graham two thousand nine who said publicly and privately he wanted to close of obey here. We are twelve years later. Incidentally we're talking about advance of twelve years ago when whenever a witness begins a deposition. The lawyer always asked. What did you look at to refresh recollection for your testimony. Mr and i did in preparation for this. Try to hunt around for a couple of things. There was a very well written away. Elsie opinion about the constitutionality is military commissions written in two thousand nine which was declassified. At some point. I looked forward. I couldn't find it. I looked at a new yorker magazine article to twenty sixteen about gitmo and then i looked at this book called cure captured. I was gonna. I was gonna bring out somebody named ed. Cleveland seminal twelve or recall with brought back certain certain memories landmark killer capture. Right right so so dan. I'm going to. I'm going to push back a little bit and say no. And it's important to remember that after the president decided to work with congress to reform military missions in use the system we then set about the process of dividing these cases up and i concluded that the nine eleven case should go to the southern district of new york. We sat down with the prosecutors. doj. I sat down with the with the military commissions prosecutors in went through each of these cases in detail using my experience as a former prosecutor myself. What's admissible evidence. What's not can we get a conviction what's the strength of the case. And i was very comfortable sending the nine eleven case to federal court in manhattan in part. Because i'm a new yorker. And i was on manhattan island on nine eleven and i used to work in that office. Thank you if only you had prevailed on that and well how this would have been over the years gone in with the benefit of hindsight if that case had gone to the southern district in two thousand nine they probably would have been long convicted navy serving their sentence right now. So what happened. You advocated that but then it blows up because lindsey graham and others including mayor bloomberg in new york. I remember it. We're pushing back on the idea of flying eleven Defense to to manhattan played our all after the announcement in two thousand nine and to the point where congress inserted language into the nda the national defense authorization act prohibiting. The transfer.

Yes say that. Now on the blue jays podcasts. So that we don't hear it on. The white sox broadcast feed battery longer. Greg craig or you know what. Start with the winter. So adam you get to pick your pick to click or your player. i going. We're going to boston rate so god's can be rough and then we got the yankees are. Jeez i need a safe bet Let me go with simeon safe. Bet for that one because that's going to be too tough series back for once. Yeah i need to go on a hot streak go and how do you think the records shakeout. Yes seven games and when we record next week whether it's wednesday or thursday we'll just pick the series ahead. Okay so you want me to go. The for just both series. Yep okay. i'm going to be that guy. I'm gonna say one out of the four the win against boston. But then they're going to flip it back against new york. New york's first time in buffalo. I think the yankees first time in boston. This year. I'll go to ought to three. They are so at the end of the day. they'll go. Was that really seven. Yeah three three or four. So i'm going to go with a yankee bashar in lord escorial junior. Because i don't care he's trending up. He could do mediocre through the red sox series destroys the yankees like he typically does. I'm gonna walk out with a win. And i think to adams point and wearing all we probably. We're going to have a rough weekend. Here against the red sox. I'm gonna hope for a split but with rio pitching the last game. The white sox theories here. It's not lining up away. i would like. Can't we could be lighting up garrett cole because sticky stuff ain't there that would be that was turn for any any pitcher right now for that matter pitches night so i think park is really that he would land in that series. Serendipity for the 'Mueller, She Wrote' podcast
"Muller? She wrote has been a weekly podcast since two thousand seventeen examining the developments in the investigation by Robert Muller into Russian interference in the two thousand sixteen election episodes are occasionally taped before a live audience and one was scheduled for last night at Largo here in Los Angeles, and then serendipity struck when it was announced that the mole report would be released that same day, the podcast hosts are stand up comedians, Jellison Johnson, Jordan, Coburn and a woman who only goes by her initials, and now please welcome the host of more. She wrote. He g won't reveal her full name because she's a federal employee whose prohibited by law from participating in partisan political activities, I was in the audience for last night's taping. And then spoke with Jordan, Coburn and AG afterward. And I began by asking AG how the timing of the mole report changed her show last night. It literally changed like twenty minutes before we got here because we've had the same structure for live shows that we've been doing for all two of our previous life show, so far I was like we can't just act like it's a normal day. You guys we have a really great show planned for you that we just scrapped, and we were probably gonna go right off the cuff or this called going and cold. But we hope you enjoy it. We're going to do some sabotage. We're gonna do some fantasy indictment league. Because you we normally keep it a little bit more light hearted and fun and have some games involved. You know in the live show. We'd like a quiz section on our news stories. But yeah, we had to switch it last minute. You go by the initials AG, and for people who don't understand does does that have something to do with the hatch act, and why are your initials in the hatch act in some way connected for people who don't understand what the hatch act is. I'm going out of my way extra to not violate the hatch act because I work for Trump's executive branch. And so the hatch act basically says that you you can't use your agency or title as federal government employees to advocate for or against a somebody running for political office. And we know Trump's been running since the day he got into office because that's his moneymaker. I take a step further. I could use my name. I just want to keep it all out of it. And I want to keep a nice giant crowbar separation between what I do at night and on the weekends. And what I do during the day. What do you think your work, and your background give you in terms of understanding issues that other people might not have working in the government? And I think you're veterans that right, right? What does that perspective? Give you how understanding how absolutely slow the government roles. It's just so Celo and people right now they want answers now. And they, you know, they just don't understand why things take so long, and I hope that I can lend some explanation as to why they do and that it's actually that way for a purpose. When the report came out did you say to yourself? That's it for the podcast because I mean, obviously, the title of the podcast is Muller. She wrote and Miller has written. I'm not sure really because I I don't feel that I'd dictate where this show goes. I think the listeners dictate whether or not the show keeps happening, but you know, personally, we've got twenty offspring investigations from this. That are still open an ongoing we've got the stone trial that doesn't start till November. We've got bijon key on July. We'll keep covering it. If people keep needing us. To cover it. Yeah. I think we know that there's a lot to be covered and could go on for a very long time. But my fear, I guess was that people would take bars four-page summary and think that that means shops closing up, and that's all there's to be seen. But I don't think that's how our fans are. And I think we have a lot more to do. Everyone was like, oh, they're done. No further indictments. And then boom, Greg Craig it's dieted yet. Mr. first name since right? One indictment bridge. Name. Yeah. What you that's the real crime who first name. What do you think it is that you give listeners that maybe they can't find some other place? I think we remove the talking angry heads that a lot of people get tired of. But mostly the whole mission of this was to keep people interested in keep people engaged and to keep it simple. And to to take these traumatic and important events in spin them into humor, it it kind of helps us get through it. It's kind of like if you don't laugh, you'll cry and fans say that we were curatorial journalists and everything that we do we always provide context as well. So it's it's like very as a huge story, obviously and everything fits in a time line. And I think we do a good job of reminding everyone the the importance of each news bid that comes up and keep it rolling in a way that's easy to digest. And yet in a very recent episode of your podcast, you
