"So that's got its own story behind it. So what was it like. Working at microsoft was that pretty. Was it pretty crazy. I was actually a great experience. I i was brought in specifically to work on on the the zun product. Zun had long the music service and it was just a service. No i actually launched with a device as well as software so similar. It's the sinking go. It was Client software for the content in it and then and it would make correct. Yeah so became up with an mp three player that I will launch before. I actually joined the company so it was i. I joined just prior to the launch of the zone to okay and and the dune to was when they were going to act podcast support so it was the second content area that they were gonna to add to the platform and then after they launched podcast and they they. They had me helped launch the tv store in the platform. So offering ramps. So i i work with abc nbc. All those major you know the the viacom channels and things like that to to get video content. Tv shows and things like that into the platform. So i was doing both podcasting and video store to launch the zun platform back those days so i was there from about two thousand seven to about two thousand fourteen so i was. Yeah wow mid thousands. Yeah so in a casting out to windows. Media center had video podcasts and windows media center. So i managed all that and then i also had the podcast sexually evolve and move over to windows phone before i left the current the more current version of windows phone so actually the the current version of windows phone has a has a built in podcast app. That's built into the platform and that that was designed just prior to me leaving the company and because the zun got absorbed by xbox and so the the zun kinda back in catalog eventually xbox shut it down and that's their own thing. Yeah yeah and and so. The app that currently exists on windows phone today doesn't have a cadillac behind it. It does us very on being defined podcasts. Oh wow so. And i. I left after that to go to work for podcast one down in los angeles so i did that for for year. I'm back and forth to los angeles to to work with podcast one and that was in two thousand and fourteen which was basically the renaissance right. Yes worth worth renaissance. Podcast sounds well. That was wasn't that the year that the serial went crazy. It was right and it's it's good does actually a really good year for podcasting..

"If you really think about it you know all the major technology platforms have already supported. I mean apple. Obviously even even microsoft. I mean i ran the zun podcasting platform for microsoft or six years and they use the term podcast back in two thousand seven when we launched the podcast area and and google supports it now and and i mean just go through the list of the major media of the major technology companies in every body supporting that name and just isn't the power of the herd gets just too much momentum and it's a fun word. It's actually a fun word. I mean this is the this. This is the opinion that i've had that nobody's been able to come up with a better name. I think the only other name that was balanced round was one of those bounced around by leo laporte. A call net cast and he. He still uses it today if you go watch. One of the twits videos or audio programs or or listen to any of them he still uses the term net cast at the beginning of every episode even today. He doesn't like the term podcast and he he wanted a term that was more applicable to his methodology which is more audio video so so in in videos all another conversation that we can have about podcast casting too but It's it's definitely it's in declined because of youtube. Obviously but it used to be a big area probably thirty percent of the podcast plateau video podcasting video. Yeah right right right. Yeah well you know. I've i've noticed something to now. I've played around with video. But i wasn audio only just because it for me. It's a lot less work work. You know what i mean. But i'll i'll say it anyway. Just the sort of like on your computer. Right is working really hard when you're having to you know do the you know the production of even a short video when you recorded in h. Well you know. But that's what turned me off a video you know. It's just you have to buy a new computer order to to to encode it and crutcher down with the big big reason videoed didn't really take off from the podcasting space and stay up..

National Bald is Beautiful Day with Jon Gay

"Paul John Gay Aka Jag here wishing you a very happy bald is beautiful day. I have to turn this off because actually use a BOC three to shave my head and I've been doing that since two thousand when I was twenty five but just doesn't sound as good as the electric into a microphone. Hoping you have some podcasts ideas around bald is beautiful. Because, just remember God only made a few perfect heads on the wrist he put hair. I, always hope to get some good sound effects from I guess, but I'll say that electric razors the funniest one day John. Today is September thirteenth and for my first recommendation I'm going a little off the board here. I honestly did spend some time listening to a few episodes related to hair loss but none that I would force my listeners to suffer through. Instead I found a podcast made by youngster named Grady, who makes the grady and the Lille Lyon podcast grady share some interesting facts about animals. What does this have to do with? Bald is beautiful day you ask. Will in this episode, he talks about a beautiful bird known as the Bald Eagle. Did you know the bald. Eagle makes a biggest nest of any bird. Me Neither. Listen in for short two and a half minutes to get nine other facts, and then you can talk about it using the National Bald is Beautiful Day Hashtag even though it wasn't the true intent of the Hashtag. My guest today is John Gay when I reached out to John About being a guest, it made me a bit sad I met John podcast movement in two thousand eighteen and then again last year. But with no in person event this year, we wouldn't be able to catch up face to face. John's podcasts is called the jags show, which is focused around podcasts. He is short weekly episodes and then mixes in longer form interviews with industry people. In this episode, he interviews Rob Greenlee of the newly formed podcast academy. They talk about the industry and then give details about the academy which a lot of us are curious about. In fact, this episode reminded me to join the academy as soon as I finish recording. For last recommendation John Comes back with fellow bald man met cuddle who hosts the sound off podcast. Matt did a lengthy interview with Boston legend Mistress Carey about her departure from w. a. f., and her venture into podcasting. For today's extra awes- I'll let you know that I've been going to the same barber since high school even after moving four hours away. But due to the pandemic, my nephew is now cutting my hair is real job corporate advertising.

"Hello Robin Rob. Time of Day and rob. I know Oh, my gosh, so I mean just to let our people know right there. We have tired Rob Tired Rob Welsh and we have vibrant rob greenlee. Ready to go ready to go, so maybe there could be a balance between all of that stuff, so thank you for coming on the show Liam. Husband struck. We're me. That's right and we're GONNA. Be Talking about the podcast. The podcast academy later on in the show, which is why we have you here, but we're also have all kinds of really fun things to to touch base on starting with some like some podcasting news and rumors, so you rob greenlee just shared with us something that neither Robin knew so what's going on with level later? We'll get an update. To their Libya leading software. This is amazing it's. It's one of the simplest tools to to use with. Your way files level now, but this is a really old tool. It was created by Doug K. back in two thousand five I believe and It got an update to support the latest version of. The MAC os so that's exciting. It's now for Catalina. Yea, thank you, thank you doubt you. So. I'm sure you can get just by going to later on. That's just how it sounds L.. E. V. E., L., A. T., O., R.! I believe something like that Sharon. Now all have links in the show notes there and I have to say I. Use this to away. He way back in the day because I heard it from podcast four one one. One and for those of you guys that don't know what it actually means it. Is it really Kinda does? What phonic does but in need of an easier way. It's this little tiny tool. You just drag the stuff. Stick it in it, and it spits it out nicely. Love elated afterwards, which is It just allows loudness novels of your files to talk. Out Yeah. And it's still early. It's free. That's amazing. Oh my God, so am also now into some other news. What's going on with Sirius? Xm. Acquired simple cast show so Sirius Xm Pandora Edge results required, simple cast since the last episode or announced the Acquisition Goodness Gracious, all kinds of shopping going on. So, what do you think that? Backup it's just another indication of the streaming streaming music platforms getting more into podcasting. There's no questions what that means and you know. We said it would be more and more acquisitions simple on the on the block for a little bit of time, so not not surprising to see that they got acquired How do you think that simple cast is going to be used as a property of this larger conglomerate? Or look little bit up in the air. If you think about how simple cast is different than, let's say like an anchor with spotify anchor. spotify was free, so but You know the other one here is is paid so simple casts is a paid service, so I don't know if if Pandora's going to convert to a free model with simple cast, or if they're going to keep it a paid model that I think that's the biggest question of having my mind, instead they might be using it for in house things I would assume, but who knows I mean I'm just intrigued as aware fits because just like you're saying. It's slightly different like I didn't. I'm not sure like I wanna see what goes on with with simple Casper's sure they've done some really wonderful things when it comes to the community and whatnot, but not just not just acquisitions going on, but there's some rumors happening between between what am I. These guys have changed their name so many different times that I always forget like what everything is so. What's up with stitcher in mid roll and Omni? Rumor is they are in have been up for sale from scripts, and they've been shopping around, and and so that that is the rumor. That's out there and we'll see this. It's been reported multiple places. Inside sources and All kinds of stuff so We'll see what happens there, but we said it beginning the YOU'RE GONNA see more deals announced throughout this year. and. You can actually read more about this. There's there's an article on Google to a search for Stitcher I'm sure you'll find some articles that have popped up about it. If you want to read more about it, it's just a sign of the consolidation and changes in the industry which are going on all the time, so.

Meat processing workers fear health risks despite increased pay

"Well a fourth USDA food inspector has died of the corona virus that comes as the meat packing plants they inspected become hot spots for outbreaks at least ten thousand meatpacking workers across the country have been infected likely far more and at least thirty have died Kim Cordova as president of the U. F. C. W. local seven union which represents workers in Colorado and Wyoming including meat Packers she joins us now welcome thank you for having me well let's start with the workers that you represent several thousand workers for the food processing giant J. B. S. what has happened to them since this pandemic began how many have gotten sick so we have had seven deaths in the Greenlee put facility so I believe we have the largest death toll for the entire country total for our plant we have three hundred sixteen positive cases but we have not had testing for all of the workers so they did not until this week even offer testing for a symptomatic workers is so the plant was closed back in April after the third death at the plant so they are back in operating again but yes we've had several deaths since the plan was re opened and what are the conditions like at this point in the plan is the facility save how close together or the workers were kind of protection do they have so while the plant was closed the company did make some improvements to the plant like in the lunch rooms break rooms they put plexi glass dividers that on the fabrication side of the floor they did put metal dividers that they have markings on the floor to identify six foot of social distancing their staggering breaks also they do not have the highest level of personal protective equipment like respirators but without daily testing and they opened up that plant without testing all of the workers we've seen the numbers start to move up again you know the plant was about a hundred and twenty somewhere around there positive cases those were workers that were had symptoms that were tested at yesterday's numbers that we have three hundred and sixteen and they just started offering voluntary testing but out of sight that's not on the plant you know on the plant site you have to drop five to a community college and get tested and they also have the testing during work hours so they are going to have to do something about that personal protective equipment and areas in the plant where you just can't social distance well what do workers tell you are they glad to be going back into work or they're afraid you know a lot of workers are scared they need to be able to pay their rent and provide you know a living for their families a lot of workers are still grieving the death of their co workers and as well as their family members that died so we still have workers that are on ventilators you know we know of one family that soon have to make it to the you know the most horrible decision to take their family member there JB it's a J. B. as she's a JBS worker off the ventilator or you know she will be on the ventilator for the rest of her life in a coma so it's it's a really bad situation for the workers Kim let me ask you this question because there are a lot of listeners probably hearing you talk about this and wondering whether they ought to just stop buying meat for the moment because they don't want to contribute to the situation what would you say to Americans who are hearing this and they're worried about being part of the problem there is a way that you can run this plant and keep the food supply chain going it we need to run it safely so when the president of the United States states invoked his executive order you know he failed to provide any type of safety mechanisms or invoke you know strong safety laws enforceable laws that would be number one so you can run the food supply chain if we had safety controls in place so there needs to be some real change in those industries and you can continue to continue the flow of the food chain but we need to have it say for the work force let me finally ask you you represent another group of workers the Kroger's grocery store workers in Kroger's has announced that it is ending here pay for workers this weekend that was an additional two dollars an hour that it was giving to workers during this crisis what what are your workers saying about that well they're really upset because we're not out of the woods yet you know with the states opening up these workers are going to be put but you know they're still at risk they have to often work you know address customers face to face whether helping and assisting them and for the company to take the bonus away with the workers don't understand that because the companies have profited the most Kroger has they've had record sales but they're taking the pain away from the front line workers and so we're hoping that croaker reef you know rethink their decision and provide that additional two dollars for these workers that have really risked everything there's that their health and safety as well as their family members that is Kim Cordova who is president of UFCW local seven union in Colorado and Wyoming she represents meatpacking employees grocery store workers and more thank you so much for joining us thank you Jeremy have a wonderful have a

Beijing is changing, and not necessarily for the better

"Now it's hardly surprising that Beijing City of twenty two million people his constantly changing but sometimes change isn't a good thing this week wake of Beijing bookshop that had become a center for discussions and festivals and ideas announced that it would be shutting down as China correspondent Bill birtles reports it is part of a broader campaign to transform the city walking the streets rates of my neighborhood in Beijing. It's surprising how many places I remember that have now gone especially saying only lived here for the past four. Oh years at straight level modern China China's quickly but to an outsider. That changes Darnell wise. Mike a lot of sense tonight. I'm climbing the wooden stays to the entrance of the bookworm. Every foreigner he knows this place which is part bookshop pot. Cafe I Papa and pop live performance spice. I suspect one of the reasons at Sei. Well Noun is that it's been here for ages. Fourteen fourteen years which in today's Beijing is a long time for a foreign run venue walls of filled filled with both overseas and Chinese titles. People quietly Patra why on keypads while others drink bees and banter portrait's tricks of authors who have given toxic grace the walls i. I visited the bookworm as a language student. In two thousand and night as Beijing was earing up to host the Olympic Games. I was living at a student dorm. Why out in the Northwestern University district to get the subway into the middle of town to graduate? This little pocket of Western intellectualism seemed like a big day out. Two years later I was living in Beijing. Being in the bookworm was a regular Monday night haunt packed to the rafters for Rowdy Pub Trivia since moving back to the capital in two two thousand fifteen. The book was a bit dated. There were so many new cafes now many other venues to go to but none of them have what the bookworm has talks. Discussions Needs National Literary Festival that brings speakers from across China and the wells wells. I hosted a talk by the. ABC's Richard Fidler he earlier this year on the history of Constantinople. A French journalist friend of mine ended a night of stand-up comedy. Here recently. Heck my Chinese colleague was last night for music performance. A Canadian diplomat named Michael. Oh coverage spoke at the literary festival here two years ago. He's better now and these days for being detained without access to lawyers in a state security imprison of Chinese retaliation for Canada arresting a senior Hawaii executive at the US request. That's the bookworm. Applies for events for discussion for ID's little haven for foreigners popular too with some Chinese intellectuals and now it's closing according to the owners it's the lightest victim of Beijing's cleanup campaign. The building had been illegally renovated over the years and now they're being forced to go perhaps stipend somewhere else but in today's China that's far from clear clear rarely has spice discussions and ideas seemed so important. China under president. Xi Jinping is going through an extremely greenlee repressive stage hyper nationalism demands of loyalty to the Communist Party and a tightening of censorship. Is stifling public debate across this country. Recently a foreign journalist I know was told. She couldn't rent an apartment because she's a foreign journalist. The landlord what court having some sort of nationalist fervor wouldn't rent it to her in this environment. I really do wonder who would be willing to rent a space to a bookshop up that encourages open. ID's about a year ago. I was sitting at the bookworm wondering if it would be nixed by Jing. In recent years has been undergoing a wave of gentrification the mayor a block named excite she has been on the warpath against illegal structures. The city is awash with extensions that were never approved. And he's cleaning them up with Gusto. The problem is some of the city's best little restaurants restaurants and bars have been wiped out as a result as I woke back from the bookworm like I passed Jing nineteen forty nine a craft beer burried at bit the dust when the local government shutdown the compound that was in. Luckily it's been able to reopen elsewhere next door the original side side a great French restaurant doctor. She wants to visiting relatives there. But that's going to Lucas achieved Vietnamese place. Five dight some awesome great noodles. That's gone. It was in an illegally built extension and great leap. A pioneer of the city's brewing sane was shut down for zoning raisins but it's now reopened minus the kitchen. It sometimes seems like two steps forward one step back in Beijing. The capital of the world's new emerging superpower is still a poor cousin to Shanghai and Hong Kong as a genuine global city but just as quickly glee as the venues. Close some of them reopen in other places. Hopefully the same happens for the bookworm. This bill birtles in Beijing. correspondent powder the bookworm on the sound

"We we are two weeks away from the big brother finale got a lot to talk about here tonight on our recap sorry about the delay everybody who's watching live but if you only knew what i had to work with year on the road to make this show happen you would you would understand this mad scientist situation russian that we have going on here of course very excited to be joined here tonight by an esteemed member of the l. FC please welcome welcome the great most danny must how're you doing great i'm very excited to talk about one of my favorite veto competitions BB comics i'm very happy happy that they kind of did a back to basics thing and copied the same competition from big brother sixteen when they first did become a throwback a throwback a throwback robak for the bbc comex classic edition and a throwback to podcast i remember listening to fondly on my way back from mini rene apple when was puja and melissa were on a together many wednesdays ends days ago here he is back on the podcast this time with me here is the great poo poo how are you i'm doing good rob i'm happy happy to be here taryn might not listen to this because he's in new york but upgrade i just got an upgrade here no shade taryn just kidding very excited to be here and very excited to talk bb colleagues okay well very excited fun veto competition and we will talk through the looming not since lebron james puja has there been such a highly anticipated decision of what will happen on thursday night we'll find out live when we are doing our show from the SPCA theater here in new york city i'm out on strong island right now much like nicole and looking forward to our big live show on a thursday night but a lot of talk through you could use hashtag RJ scott saint-pierre is standing by to get us those questions later on in the show melissa how are you doing i'm doing great this was a great episode well a very very exciting veto results i i was so excited when i saw the news that call it won't be joe it's honestly like all day long she had been saying i have have to win this i like i need to do this for myself and for cliff and then she would literally promise to like cliffs family that she was going to win this she's like i'm i'm going to do it i'm gonna win it and most of the time when people say that on the show you're like okay are a sure you are alike that's probably not going to happen but she did it i mean that was insane she did such great job she smoked them i mean she got such a better time it was very impressive it's impressive run here here for nicole and i don't know if i have the big brother player sorta that at my fingertips that i could say is the parallel for this run that nicole is on the only person i can think of who's had a quick change in both capability to take it all at the end and also turn on the complex after having not is paris from be began six that is the only person i can compare her to it's been amazing it's been an amazing not even one week six days for nicole a where she was going into that double and where she is now we're seeing her in a whole new light on we're talking about an whole night and as a nicole fan as someone who was assaulting dear nicole has been a fan and ecole pretty nice to see i will take yeah let's say it's been such an impressive run where sure the odds on favourite to win right which is crazy i mean honestly think about just like the roundtable from last week and where we were basically saying like she's got to win something or else she's never gonna win this there's no way because the main argument going into the end was well well nicole hasn't done anything for these ago right exactly that's the thing is it just it everything is different now i feel like everyone's account nicole nicole hose the winner she's coming into the stretch like melissa draft whereas like a couple of weeks whoever wants their draft sucks so i hope nicole pulls it out because she is the only remaining person who may draft you know i it's been such an impressive turnaround greenlee i'm so happy and mila side you have to commend you on your draft the incredible job to land mccall in brown it was all me i i knew she was going to be the last one i knew that i was gonna get her it was all knee just to reset that was that there were two people left on the board jess and nicole i had the fifteenth pick whoever i didn't pick was going to go to melissa and i said boy gesture nicole nicole lock your parents in the basement i'd like to river but it just seems like a more normal person and the call i can't i can't see you take good luck with nicole lewis and i was like no i like their video video up at a little video clip of it has been kind of circulating around on twitter today and it's just it's so embarrassing 'cause i'm like i didn't pick her i don't want her now go to call you got this you're by doesn't matter if it's victory nonetheless if ends up coming in for the call okay but we'll talk walk through all the scenarios for the game a little bit but let's just talk through what was going on in the episode clear we started with everything going on with tommy he was feeling sorry for himself and he ends up saying that okay i am going to end up coming clean to macbeth to jackson accident holly and he ends up telling the backstory of him in christie that they knew each other yeah so i love the way they set this up on the show because i feel like it was pretty much the exact same thing we were seeing on the feeds on saturday and it's one of those situations where they're just just talking so much smack about christie his face and he's just sitting there and taking it and taking it and then you just got i'd i just need to get defensive now and just kind of also blamed christie by association just look hey i knew her coming in at the play the cards i was dealt it's not not my fault she kinda lost herself like this is just this is why this happened and i loved it it reminds me of a situation on a movie where you know there's a group of the people and their talking a lot of smack about this one of the personnel burden comes as well i've been dating them secretly for three months so what do you have to say about that now nice well well if you think what you guys had to say is bad you should hear what my aunt had to say about her because i'm i'm sure yeah i'm sure my aunt was even she was even go after worse drag her so yeah sure the aunt has some breakup jersey i mean you never wanna go to hard into with the break-up stories because you don't have to break up is gonna take but here in in this instance since i don't know if tommy in christie you're gonna get back together after the season is over melissa yeah and i mean the way that this was put on the show did not make holly look great it made her look pretty bad and pretty mean and she's like i mean i sound download the mean girl right now and like no one says anything like no one says no you're not being it was just like tom he's kind of like it's okay i understand but it just did did not look good for holly i feel like today's at it wasn't great for her i mean this whole time she was kind of able to remove herself from this like bullying mentality or whatever whatever like this mean girl mentality and because she was always able to say like well i didn't have any part of it and it was it was in my heart and like i just felt like i had to go along with it for the game the christie's out of the house this is a game at all it's just like the smack jog somebody this is a great point about holly and i really feel like we've all been going back and forth of what's going to be the best move for nicole and forklift going into thursday and i have to say i think i feel more adamant than ever especially when we're talking about tommy versus holly holly has started to become so unimpressive puja off i almost i feel like i don't even see a scenario where holly ken win why would cliff and nicole wants to get rid of her yet yeah it's talking to parallel to nicole going from poppy not winning anything to now being the front runner is that holly coming into the week was kind of everyone's like like chalk okay if she makes it there she's got everyone beat she might have to work a little bit against jackson but she's got this going where why are they being picked off right now why holly being looked at right right now it just comes down to the fact that holly and mickey are jackson as we call them or a pair dr jackson yeah yeah that was so great by the way i didn't think of it we'll do all the comics and a little bit just basically basically comes down to the fact that they got rid of a pair it was a three way standoff of three pairs and now this is another pair and now there's an opportunity in front of them to maybe take take that one down we've all talked about at length of how impressive jackson's run has been since the blow up of forty four and here we are now and he could run on it to the end and this is something they see as handicapping jackson it boils under that yeah have you weighed in on on what you think cliff and nicole should do know because i got on the update the day before all this went down so my viewpoint from the get-go was it's a two out of four with the pair of nicole and cliff and then you've got a singular tommy a singular mickey if you're why don't you mickey out of nowhere jackson accepted yeah it's happened finally watermelon seed planted in your head i wish it was seedless those are better however yes so if you take holly out here these to see each other as biggest threat to win at the end they fully believe it at least that's how i'm taking it so my belief was coming down if they get to the final four these two are going to go after each other they're going to want to target each other even though cliff and nicole are sitting there as a pair why because even if we've just seen nicole when two competitions out of the last four in the last six days that's impressive we've seen cliff come out of nowhere when competitions when no one bought it was possible he's had his moments but jackson's run is unparalleled his competition wins have been ridiculously insane outside of here he's pretty much want everything that he's been really good on the flipside tommy has not not been a slouch in these cops he's coming second in a lot of even this one right now would-be comics so they go even if they win their have to look at taking each other out so that's where i stand is holly going out is better and i'm not gonna lie i wasn't one hundred percent in because everyone has said this is one of those ones where there's no rude winning pick either works i think as the days have gone on here and just the game we've seen just the conversations we've seen it's getting more and more clear that holly going is the move here okay melissa i'm much more in the tommy should go camp because i think that tommy i can see him winning competitions here down the stretch and could tell me this is crazy could you see tommy winning the final goal three h. o. h. and potentially taking jackson to the final two is that crazy to imagine that i think that it's possible however i mean like i don't know i don't think it's crazy but i think that the odds are he wouldn't because first of all well if he does that i mean he already knows that holly would vote for jackson so that automatic probably receive oh automatic jackson votes and then that would cancel out his chris evokes his christie does like the one like yes christie is gonna vote for me so then renders christie vote kind of move and then you know i i just think that he i don't think he would take jackson just because i think that he jackson are automatically has some votes associated with him uh-huh whereas nicole and cliff it's up in the air we don't know who's gonna vote for nicole and clip tommy as the argument first of all against clip that like i've been working this whole time i was in these all these alliances blah blah blah and i'm the last man standing from the alliance nicole and clifton do anything the whole game yeah sure they like you know they could say that obviously i disagree i think cliff i've

Colonial Downs Hosts The Virginia Derby

"Let's get right to it with those three contenders and we'll start with english english be the son of english channel who won this race in two thousand and five. Tell us a little bit about english be coming up to the virginia derby. Yeah i mean look. He's been a hard knocking earth. He's not a host showed. A tremendous amount is a two year old <hes> but he's just one of those cool hoses. It's been a little bit of a surprise and <hes> shows up even when he's beating. He's not beating very far. <hes> just a nice supposed to be around. He's run some excellent numbers numbers and and he's got a lot of talent. He's worse that i kinda got onto early on in his career <hes> i i really think he's destined for some big things down the road. I think so. I mean look he's had a he had a pretty solid year and i i feel do you like at some point here. We would probably going to give him a break. <hes> 'cause like i said to. Mike is very consistent but look. I thought this was a great spot. I've always had it in the back. Oh my mind and <hes> you know we get thrown on a great tip. We'll santa colonial yeah and he has the pedigree for that mentioned being by english channel who won this race. A._c.'s also out of a kitten's joy mayor and we know kitten's joy won the virginia derby as well so he's. He's got that in his corner to graham. You'd certainly let me think that he would handle the distance. I mean i i didn't think he got the mountains in the belmont derby but then that was also great one so it's a little little bit hudson against that caliber voted. I mentioned the last time that this race was run couple years ago you want it would just howard for all l. Lynch was aboard that day today team up with frugal again would solidify the son of tap is our the second of the three that you have in the virginia derby today today talk about solidify for a minute yeah. I think he's a bit of a sneaky horse in here this host because clearly last time he didn't runs race. He never got involved. It was extremely greenlee hot that day <hes> and he just seemed unusually lethargic so i'm really hoping i can put a line through that. We've given him plenty of time to get over. It and i beat surprised if he doesn't show back get back in his game tonight. I mean you go back to last year and he'd beats. Winston won the belmont so you know clearly. He's the class yeah. He's a horse that <hes> maybe didn't like delaware sometimes sources they don't run well at delaware and then they come back go to different track and they perk up. I don't know what it is about delaware. Maybe it's the heat or something you would. You would probably know better than i yeah. I agree with you. I i certainly have run sub races there and i. It was extremely hot that day. <hes> and i gotta think that might have played into it. I think you know his. I racing the tail. The cat was solid. I really liked the model names for this force and robbie walsh who gets on him every day. You know we've talked about it this week and he feels certain great <hes> and he worked up this race so grandma. I know that judas a big fan of english beat tonight the horse that you send out that i think it can maybe pull off a little bit upset of who went to look at it. That way is shooting the breeze <hes> from a numbers perspective. I think he fits and i think his running style fits this turf course how about you look. I you know i really had a hard time deciding how to handle this tonight because i feel like like these. Three horses are very evenly matched but i just i couldn't talk myself out of running any of the three of them. If you like so look i feel very good about all three of them. We gelded shooting the breeze sent his last <hes> has lost that was probably the first disappointing rates really.

"And so ends the story of the kidnapping of Bobby Greenlees. His life was short and ended horrifically the lesson learned from this high profile kidnapping is one that American schools still struggle with to this day. It would take years before American public schools began to implement strict student checkout procedures situations such as bobby's remained common strangers taking students from their schools under the guise of a relative, which has led to most schools requiring that only legal guardians or formerly approved caretakers retrieve children from schools, and even then they have to show photo ID, of course, such policies require that administrators enforce them. And this does not always happen. If anything the kidnapping of Bobby Greenlees is more a lesson on greed. Neither Carl hall nor Bonnie heady wanted for money in her interrogation. Bonnie even confessed to having told Carl to drop the whole idea of the kidnapping that she had enough income to support them. But Carl could not be persuaded. He was driven by alcohol and drug use first and foremost, but underneath that was envy and resentment born of greed agreed that began in the halls of Kemper military school where there were Kansas City boys who came from massive wealth for some the capitalist drive to compete overcome can lead to great things. It can take a farm boy and turn them into a millionaire or as in the case of Carl hall. It can take a small town lawyer son and turn him into a killer. You can listen to hostage

"Failure. And heartbreak there. It was the sound that haunted him this time. He didn't wait for O'neil. He jumped from his seat racing to answer. On the other end was the kidnapper slow and deep voiced is always like he had half a candy bar in his mouth. It was now late almost Monday and truth. But the caller swore that this time nothing was going to go wrong. Letterman was livid for once. He didn't play nice. He didn't immediately capitulate to whatever the kidnapper said author John Heidenreich record Letterman's response. As follows, quote, this idea of climbing the tree and looking in a bird nest for a note, then climbing on your belly somewhere looking for something under a rock with a red white and blue ribbon around it that's getting tiresome. You know, you and I don't have to play ball that way. We can deal man to man, and quote, he waited for his answer worried that he had been rash that he had perhaps a ruin the whole thing. But then a response. The kidnapper said Letterman should drive to Pittsburg Kansas some two hours away from Kansas City there. He would find a phone where the kidnapper would call him with further instruction at eleven thirty pm that night Letterman kept his confidence street going. He said that wasn't good enough. He needed to know the precise location of the phone. No, more half-baked directions. The kidnapper. Fumbled for words. He was seemingly confused Letterman felt another paying of fear as you consider that maybe the kidnapper really was mentally unfit. The kidnapper finally managed to say that the hotel name was quote, some kind of Shire and with that hung up the phone. Letterman arrived in Pittsburg Kansas as quickly as possible immediately searching with O'neil for a hotel with Shire in the name. Finally, they came across the Berkshire hotel and located the phone booth in question at eleven thirty pm the phone rang as scheduled Letterman jumped to answer it. The kidnapper was on the other end he provided directions in his usual. Muddled way this time to a nearby bridge. They were to throw the money off of it. And then would receive instructions for picking up, Bobby. They did as they were told deciphering confusing directions as always a while later. The green leases received another call. They were told that the money had it last been received as promised a telegram would be sent in the morning with instructions for finding Bobby Letterman and every. One involved had slept. Maybe two hours the entire weekend. As he no Neil arrived at the Western Union telegram office the morning of October fifth almost a week after the kidnapping. They felt as if they had been at war the two companions waited. And they waited hours passed. But no telegram was sent O'Neill suggested that perhaps the kidnapper was having trouble getting Bobby to cooperate with being transported, but Letterman, new better it had been a transformative few days for him. He wouldn't put up with the kidnappers nonsense any longer in his heart. He began to accept what many of the law enforcement officials already had Bobby Greenlees was dead. The green leases and their friends continue to hold out hope for bobby's return. However, they had no way of contacting the kidnappers. It was a one-sided system of communication. There were no new letters new phone calls ultimately negotiations for bobby's release had been a disaster from start to finish. This is not to say that the green leases completely gave up hope their Catholic faith, sustain them. And they prayed that perhaps bobby's return with just take a few attempts as had the money drop a day pass with no word. It was Tuesday October six nineteen fifty three Bobby had been missing since the previous Monday unbeknownst to the Greenlees family, a new break in the case was about to emerge a few hundred miles away on the opposite side of the state. Saint Louis law enforcement had just arrested a man with a metal case full of money. Saint louis. Missouri has often been a competitive sister city of sorts to Kansas City, the two metropolises fight over who has the best jazz. The best barbecue the best baseball. But in nineteen Fifty-three Saint Louis was the clear front runner for worst criminals. It was well known that several businesses throughout the city were fronts for organized crime and indeed many local law enforcement officials and public office holders were on the payroll drug peddling and prostitution had especially become profitable in the wake of the war's end.

"They suggest that the first instance of contact should exclusively established the hostages wellbeing and established methods of contact for future communication as previously mentioned the green leaves. Camp had given all of the power and the negotiations over to the kidnappers this made it that much more difficult for Letterman and O'Neill to come back to the hostage takers and request clarification or simplified instruction. In fact, they had no way to reach out to the kidnappers at all. Ideally, they would have worked to build a sort of reporter with the kidnappers and decided upon a mutually convenient drop off process. However, the his Cox guidelines do suggest that it is important to retrieve ransom communications as quickly as possible two man teams are ideal for faster retrieval. So at least in those two instances, the green leases were doing the right thing had the wild scavenger hunt of letters continued Letterman O'neil may have changed tactics. But finally, the instructions ended a new note gave a location for the money drop. Doing as they were told Letterman and O'Neill deposited the money off at a nearby farm road. It seemed a more suitable place for a ransom as there was little traffic back at the green leases. They waited. It was all Robert him in could do to keep himself from jumping at the ringing phone over the last few days. It had come to haunt him. The phone rang at least eight times a day off. And it was from crank callers other times it was reporter sometimes friends and family, and sometimes it was the kidnapper each call unleashed a torrent of fear in Letterman's gut. He watched his companion Norbert O'neil moved to answer the phone. He looked as weary as Letterman across from him on the couch. Mrs Greenlees swept this had been going on practically nonstop since the kidnapping little Virginia. Sue was even worse. Robert Greenlees remained. Characteristically quiet O'neil turn from the phone receiver his face in possibly whiter than before. Letterman asked him. What was the matter O'Neill hesitated? He seemed completely aghast when he finally did speak. He revealed that the kidnapper claimed he could not find the ransom Letterman's heart sank did. This mean, the money was just sitting out in the woods free to take for whoever happened by or had the kidnappers taken it, and we're now claiming they hadn't in an attempt to get even more money. They had to get back out there. They had to find the money the two men flew down the highway back towards where they had left the ransom. It was nearly thirty minutes away from the Greenlees home Letterman's heart pounded in his chest. Where was it? Where was. The money. They pulled apart the grass looking behind bushes there. They finally spotted it finally some good news. Although this, of course, meant the ransom had again failed to arrive in the hands of the kidnapper once more they had failed the green leases Letterman O'Neill returned home. When Virginia saw them cash in hand. But no, Bobby. She broke down all over again. Letterman, it spent his Saturday following bad clues and false leads and he had spent the wee hours of Sunday morning, picking up a ransom for an incompetent kidnapper. Meanwhile, any police or F B I left around the house had begun to whisper that Bobby was almost certainly dead. They were approaching seven days with him missing. And with no hard proof from the kidnappers of his continued health Letterman just couldn't understand it though. He would never say so out loud. This had been quite the crime. If these hoodlums were clever enough to take Bobby as smoothly as they did. Why couldn't they figure out how to pick up the damn money? It was as if they shot the perfect twelve point buck, but had no idea how to skin it, the Greenlees home previously a place where Letterman had dined with friends and attended holiday parties became a fresh hell where each day he encountered..

"Action than their modern counterparts the knowledge gap between the authorities and regular people was smaller in the nineteen fifties. One positive of having Letterman as the go between was that he could speak with the kidnappers in a more impartial manner. The FBI, of course, always prefers that a specialist from the agency fields calls from a kidnapper lacking. That it's better to pick a third party than a relative of the hostage. Chances are higher that someone like Robert Greenlees would lose his temper with the kidnappers and make things worse. And having a third party on the call gives them an excuse to take the kidnappers demands away for approval rather than being in the position to approve of them, right then and there on the phone this way, everyone has time to think. Of course, Letterman knew none of this. Furthermore, he and Robert Greenlees had actually chosen to limit police and FBI involvement with the crime. They feared that the kidnappers would catch wind of any collaboration with the thirties and hurt Bobby. It's possible that once again, the green Lisa's based this strategy on their knowledge of the Lindbergh and McElroy kidnappings from the nineteen thirties. In the Lindbergh case, there was significant police involvement on top of that media involvement led to the crime becoming the most talked about news item in the world all of this led to high tension to go. She actions that ended in the kidnap victims death. Whereas in the McElroy case, which was local to Kansas City. The kidnappers were quickly and quietly paid with the victim return. Shortly thereafter, only, then did law enforcement move against the criminals. Robert Greenlees would have seen this as the preferrable model. The Kansas City way of handling such a crime the high profile Lindbergh kidnapping, which took place in New Jersey might have seemed like the flashy east coast Shir fire way to get your kid killed. But as Letterman continued to field phone calls from the kidnappers he failed to make any real progress in securing bobby's release other than to assure the criminals that the money was being assembled in doing. So he end the green leases gave the kidnappers all the power. They never negotiated the amount of the ransom demanded real proof of bobby's health or tried to get the kidnappers to give up the whole thing. It was understandable. But ultimately foolish choice. Not only were the kidnappers asking for an exorbitant amount. But they would soon prove grossly incompetent at giving instructions for the ransom. Livery by October third just five days after bobby's kidnapping the green leases had managed to assemble the hefty ransom. Demanded by the kidnappers six hundred thousand dollars in ten dollar and twenty dollar bills from all over the country. We're now neatly placed into a duffel bag. It was bound tightly with a rope so tightly the bag would have to be cut open. As instructed the green leases, then placed an ad in the Kansas City star reading, and we'll meet you this week in Chicago, signed, Mr. g this alerted the kidnappers that they were ready to pay the ransom once more the phone began to ring. Next. We'll follow Letterman's attempts to complete in insane. Scavenger hunt and secure bobby's freedom. Hi, it's Irma and Carter, and we have some fairy exciting news to share with you..

"This is our second episode on the kidnapping of Bobby Greenlees by Carl hall and Bonnie heady and the attempts by his parents and the FBI to get him home safely at about ten fifty five AM on September twenty eighth nineteen Fifty-three. Bobby was taken from his school by a woman claiming to be his aunt within hours the school realized it's. Mistake and the green Lisa's contacted the police soon after they received a ransom note demanding six hundred thousand dollars in exchange for bobby's safe return this week will follow the ransom process the Greenlees kidnapping took place in an innocent town in innocent time as a result the response to the kidnapping was different than what we might expect today. It's a story featuring the lower and upper classes of Missouri society in the nineteen fifties a story filled with bad decisions and really bad decisions though, the kidnapping involve the largest ransom in United States history up to that point. It was anything but the perfect crime. Once Virginia Greenlees got a hold of her husband, Robert, he immediately accepted, the reality of the situation and assembled his network of peers Robert was one of the richest men in Kansas City owning a stake in Cadillac dealerships throughout the United States and being one of the largest investors in General Motors. In addition to police several business associates of Roberts and multiple family friends made their way to the green lease estate. It became a base camp of sorts with the mission being to find Bobby and return him home safely. All of this happened within the first few hours of the kidnapping around noon on Monday September twenty eighth. After a surge of afternoon activity with no clues as to bobby's whereabouts. The green leases finally received a handwritten ransom note at eight PM on the twenty eighth just hours after bobby's abduction. It wasn't the most eloquent note, but it provided specific demands I the green leases were to drive down a certain intersection with a white rag tied to their car antenna. This would let the kidnappers know that the note had been received they were then to assemble the ransom and put an ad in the Kansas City star newspaper reading 'em. We'll meet you this week in Chicago signed Mr. g it would seem that kidnapper wished to be identified. Only as m most importantly, the green Lisa's were to supply four hundred thousand dollars in twenty dollar bills and two hundred thousand. Nd in ten dollar bills while this may seem arbitrary it was actually a fairly intelligent request this amount and denomination of bills would ensure that the ransom could be comfortably carried in one bag, but it was a huge ransom. The biggest in the history of kidnappings in the United States in today's currency. The amount would come to several million sitting there in their living room surrounded by the scrutinizing eyes of their peers the green Lisa's faced a difficult decision. They had the money. It was a lot. But they were very wealthy. But was it wise to negotiate with criminals? How did they know that promises would be kept? But for Robert Greenlees, it really wasn't a choice. He would do anything to get his son back in Virginia supported him. When Robert was younger in nineteen thirty three there had been a similar high profile. While kidnapping in Kansas City. Mary McElroy daughter of the city manager was taken from her home and successfully ransom and returned for thirty thousand dollars the green Lisa's hoped. This case would go similarly, and they hope that it would not go the way of the infamous Lindbergh baby kidnapping of nineteen thirty two wearing the ransom was paid. But the child died and so they began to follow the instructions beginning with the rag tied to their intent. About thirty six hours later on Wednesday, the thirtieth the green leases received their first call from 'em. It was a male voice deep and hard to understand. It asked only if they had received the note, and if they had secured the funds yet, Robert L Letterman, one of Robert Greene leases associates serving as a Representative for the family received the call. He assured the kidnapper that they were working to meet the ransom demands Letterman, like the green leases was ill equipped to handle a criminal of this caliber or perhaps of any caliber he was a businessman like Robert Greenlees, and the delegates psychology of hostage negotiation was not something with which he was familiar, but then again, the police and even the FBI of this era had far less experience with kidnappings and hostage negotiator..

"She wanted to please him. She thought they could just get through this. And then he'd be the man he'd been the night they first met. She even tried to show enthusiasm helping him with the wording on the first ransom note, he wanted to sign it m not for any particular reason. But because he thought it sounded suitably mysterious funny how he could be so meticulous about some details and so cavalier with others. In fact, he had become downright obsessive about the crime some days. Bonnie hardly recognized him. He practically oozed with greed when he discussed Robert C green, Lisa's money. It was as if Greenlees had wronged him somehow as if Carl thought the money was rightfully his Bonnie's alcohol consumption had increased to two fifths of whiskey a day. And she knew Carl was barely any better. They were both planning this crime through the prism of constant in abbreviation. In fact, it's this state of drunkenness that might explain how to previously small time criminals might have been capable and motivated enough to commit such a significant crime. According to a two thousand ten study at the university of Kentucky, alcohol leads to an increase in human intention -ality bias, which refers to the human tendency to view, the actions of others as deliberate. In other words, we forget to consider the internal lives of others. And just assume their actions are purposely aimed at us. If someone cuts us off in traffic, we think it's because they are deliberately trying to be rude rather than considering the more likely explanation that they just weren't paying attention in bars. Where many are feeling the influence of alcohol? This affect can have dramatic consequences one drunk individual might knock over a drink of another accidentally. But because the second drunk individual can't put aside their intention -ality bias, they assume this was a deliberate act. They start a brawl overreacting to the extreme. For coral. This may have manifested in the form of his obsession with the green leases while Paul Greenlees was completely unaware of Carl during their time at school together and likely meant him, no ill will Carl may have seen him as a privileged adversary or he may have seen the disparity between his loss of wealth. And the green leases continued success and in his drunk in mind. Imagine that the world was conspiring against him. Now, imagine Bonnie Hetty in Carl hall, both always under the influence their perception of the world warped. They would have fuelled when another neither with a clear enough. Head to point out the insanity of what they were planning couple this outlook with the potential influence of drugs or mental illness, and it becomes clear as to how the pair could go from planning a kidnapping to planning something much worse. At first Bonnie went along with Carl's preparations for the kidnapping. They traveled to Kansas City to Union Station where they picked up a copy of the Oklahoman cutting Greenlees ad from it in applying it to the ransom note on vh lope, Carl hope this would make investigators think they were from Oklahoma Carl rented a green Ford and began to drive by the Greenlees home as well as follow Robert Greenlees as he took Bobby to school while the green leases were on vacation. They repeatedly called the housemaid posing as school officials and asking for details on Bobby on or about September fourteenth. Nineteen fifty three Bonnie sat with Carl at her breakfast table, downing a whiskey Carl was making her go over the plan. Again, she squinted her is her eardrums pounding. It was more than she could take she decided to scratch the itch that had been bothering. Her since the beginning of all of this to ask about the elephant in the room, Bonnie, interrupted Carl from his usual ramblings. She asked him what they were going to do with Bobby once they had him tied him up in the basement, keep them out on the farm somewhere. He couldn't just roam around the house while they waited for the ransom to be paid. He rubbed the back of his neck looking away ashamed. There was something. He wasn't telling her. He never gave a clear answer the pounding. In her ears grew louder. She reached back out for her drink finishing it in one gulp. She thought again of the man she had first met, and how charming he was and how he made her feel cared for like her husband never had. And she thought for the thousands time. If she just indulged Carl this once she would never hear the name green lease again..

"Nineteen fifties. Kansas City was in many ways, the quintessential American city embodying the fifties virtues of hard work, faith, and family and no family in body. Those virtues more than the Greenlees clan. Robert C Greenlees the family patriarch came from a Missouri farming family born in eighteen eighty two he was not a well known name in town at the beginning of his life. But by nineteen eighteen he hit built his own Cadillac dealership in downtown Kansas City, the business found huge success in Robert grew it over the years to include dealerships throughout the mid west. He eventually became a major investor in General Motors, and by the nineteen fifties was estimated to be worth twenty four million dollars accounting for inflation. That would be roughly two hundred and fifty million in modern currency, his wealth was. Legendary even outside of Kansas City, and in the naievety of an innocent town in a more innocent time, the green leaves family never considered the degree to which their wealth might make them a target for criminals. Robert and his first wife Betty had no biological children. But they adopted Paul green. Lease who was born in nineteen seventeen. Robert's marriage to Betty ended in divorce and in nineteen thirty nine Robert married. Again, this time to Virginia Pollock green. Lease their first child Virginia sue was born in nineteen forty one six years later in nineteen forty seven Bobby Greenlees was born he was raised in total luxury the family had servants went on European vacations and gave Bobby anything he wanted. This included a pet parrot two dogs and his own mini Cadillac to drive around the block. It was an upbringing that led Bobby to never question the world and gave him no reason not to trust the people in it by nineteen fifty three. It had never crossed the families mind that the sweet. Heat six year old boy who played in the yard with his dogs and said all of his prayers every day could ever be in danger. Bobby had been playing in the backyard by the stream all afternoon having gotten home from school early. He liked to lift up the large white slabs of stone on the riverbank and look at the insects underneath he really wanted to take off his shoes. And Wade in the stream he knew there were some small fish in maybe crawdads, but mama wouldn't be happy. And Bobby knew God was watching Bobby jumped up from the riverbank. He looked over toward the house where a Birch tree was shedding bark and feathers skipping over the river Bank toward the house. He found what had happened at the foot of the tree a bird had flown into the tree falling into the grass below its head was turned at an odd angle. And it called out sadly repeatedly finally it stopped moving its eyes glazed over it was dead. Bobby? Stomach turned, but his heart hurt to his eyes welled up. He quickly got to his knees. Clasps his hands and began to pray. Lord. Let me not seek as much to be consoled as to console for. It is in giving that one receives it is in pardoning that one is pardon, and it is in dying that one is raised to turn a life. Bobby opened his eyes wincing as he looked up at the overcast, but bright sky his father appeared above him. Frowning Robert lean down next to Bobby about to place his hand on the six year old shoulder. He pulled back at the last moment apparently unsure of himself, but Bobby wasn't. And he threw himself at his father hugging him Robert relented returning the hug. The green leases were a close knit family, and as mentioned previously they were devout Catholics. Indeed. Even today their name, still adorns various Catholic institutions throughout Kansas City such as the green lease library at Rockhurst university. This belief system largely informed the family's world view. The pope was Christ's Representative on earth, the priests who served in the church carry out his and therefore God's will. And for Bobby the nuns at his school Notre Dame deci on, we're also representatives of the Lord. And thus commanded his obedience. This was nineteen fifty three before the second..

"Though, not much is known of Carl hall and Bonnie head early years will attempt to understand their transition from troubled misfits to child abductors next week in part two will learn of the bizarre negotiations process in which the kidnappers gave confusing instructions we'll explore the FBI investigation into the kidnapping and the media frenzy that resulted from the crime. In order to understand the motivations of Bobby green, Lisa's kidnappers. Carl hall and Bonnie Hetty it's important to travel back in time and explore their formative years. Born in nineteen nineteen Carl Austin hall was the son of John Austin hall and zealous e hall Carl grew up in the small town of Pleasanton, Kansas where his father was a well known attorney in nineteen thirty two Carl hall was thirteen year old boy about to begin high school. This was the year of the infamous Lindbergh kidnapping in which the infant son of the famed aviator was taken from his home and later killed the one Bruno Richard help men would later be arrested for the crime speculation persists to this day as to the true culprit, it's a crime that young Carl hall would have almost certainly been aware of and that would perhaps remain in his subconscious for years. Years to come John Hall Carl's father passed away that same year leading to Carl's mother zella enrolling him at the Kemper military school in September nineteen thirty three located in Boone Ville, Missouri. It was a regional fixture training. Young men for service in the armed forces since the late eighteen hundreds Kemper also hosted problem students who had blown their chances at previous institutions by nineteen thirty three Paul Greenlees was one such student the adopted son of Robert C Greenlees the wealthiest auto dealer west of the Mississippi he had rebelled throughout his youth. Paul green lease and Carl hall were at Kemper together for at least a year when Carl was fourteen and Paul was sixteen. Neither could have predicted that in twenty years time Carl would kidnap Paul's younger half, brother. Bobby Carl hall was by most. Counts a strong student. He performed his duties with vigor and excelled in his coursework. It's hard to imagine that Carl didn't feel some resentment toward Paul Greenlees. Carl didn't come from nothing. His father had been a successful. And well known lawyer in Pleasanton, but that was a small town, especially when compared to Kansas City, Missouri. Where Paul grew up in. Well, Carl's family was well off Paul's family was endlessly wealthy Paul's parents visited in a dark blue Cadillac Coral's mother showed up in a Buick Paul had Christmas at Union Station with all the cutest gals. Carl just went home to his mom and so Carl the good student from good family paled in comparison to Paul the problem student from the exceptional family. Kemper students would sneak out whenever they could finding a local bar or a good spot in the woods. It was normal to see who could drink the most some of the country. Boys would bring up some moonshine from their family homes in the Ozarks. Some of the boys could drink this much. And still excel in school. Carl hall wasn't one of them. His mother zella had never allowed any alcohol around the house and it hit him like a deer kick to the face. But when he was drunk. He forgot about school forgot about his strict parents at home forgot about Paul Greenlees by nineteen thirty six seventeen year old Carl hall got to wear a needed a drink to get through the day. Just a few years ago. He had been a small town boy who only drank alcohol when he could find it Carl school records shows a history of positive and complimentary comments in one thousand nine hundred eighty three and nineteen thirty. Four but by nineteen thirty six instructors began to refer to Carl in their reports as untrustworthy and rebellious in that same year school records show that Karl hall had taken ill an attempted to acquire alcohol while in the infirmary reading between the lines. It would seem that Carl had at the very least developed an alcohol problem something school faculty were ill equipped to diagnose entreat. It's difficult to know the exact origin of Carl halls intense alcoholism, the final F B I file on the kidnapping makes no mention of any kind of psychiatric evaluation of the suspect and genetic makeup is of course, unavailable considering the timeframe of the crime and general obscurity of the culprit, but it's clear that alcoholism dogged him for the rest of his life in nineteen forty two..
