Bald is beautiful day you ask. Will in this episode, he talks about a beautiful bird known as the Bald Eagle. Did you know the bald. Eagle makes a biggest nest of any bird. Me Neither. Listen in for short two and a half minutes to get nine other facts, and then you can talk about it using the National Bald is Beautiful Day Hashtag even though it wasn't the true intent of the Hashtag. Meat processing workers fear health risks despite increased pay
"Well a fourth USDA food inspector has died of the corona virus that comes as the meat packing plants they inspected become hot spots for outbreaks at least ten thousand meatpacking workers across the country have been infected likely far more and at least thirty have died Kim Cordova as president of the U. F. C. W. local seven union which represents workers in Colorado and Wyoming including meat Packers she joins us now welcome thank you for having me well let's start with the workers that you represent several thousand workers for the food processing giant J. B. S. what has happened to them since this pandemic began how many have gotten sick so we have had seven deaths in the Greenlee put facility so I believe we have the largest death toll for the entire country total for our plant we have three hundred sixteen positive cases but we have not had testing for all of the workers so they did not until this week even offer testing for a symptomatic workers is so the plant was closed back in April after the third death at the plant so they are back in operating again but yes we've had several deaths since the plan was re opened and what are the conditions like at this point in the plan is the facility save how close together or the workers were kind of protection do they have so while the plant was closed the company did make some improvements to the plant like in the lunch rooms break rooms they put plexi glass dividers that on the fabrication side of the floor they did put metal dividers that they have markings on the floor to identify six foot of social distancing their staggering breaks also they do not have the highest level of personal protective equipment like respirators but without daily testing and they opened up that plant without testing all of the workers we've seen the numbers start to move up again you know the plant was about a hundred and twenty somewhere around there positive cases those were workers that were had symptoms that were tested at yesterday's numbers that we have three hundred and sixteen and they just started offering voluntary testing but out of sight that's not on the plant you know on the plant site you have to drop five to a community college and get tested and they also have the testing during work hours so they are going to have to do something about that personal protective equipment and areas in the plant where you just can't social distance well what do workers tell you are they glad to be going back into work or they're afraid you know a lot of workers are scared they need to be able to pay their rent and provide you know a living for their families a lot of workers are still grieving the death of their co workers and as well as their family members that died so we still have workers that are on ventilators you know we know of one family that soon have to make it to the you know the most horrible decision to take their family member there JB it's a J. B. as she's a JBS worker off the ventilator or you know she will be on the ventilator for the rest of her life in a coma so it's it's a really bad situation for the workers Kim let me ask you this question because there are a lot of listeners probably hearing you talk about this and wondering whether they ought to just stop buying meat for the moment because they don't want to contribute to the situation what would you say to Americans who are hearing this and they're worried about being part of the problem there is a way that you can run this plant and keep the food supply chain going it we need to run it safely so when the president of the United States states invoked his executive order you know he failed to provide any type of safety mechanisms or invoke you know strong safety laws enforceable laws that would be number one so you can run the food supply chain if we had safety controls in place so there needs to be some real change in those industries and you can continue to continue the flow of the food chain but we need to have it say for the work force let me finally ask you you represent another group of workers the Kroger's grocery store workers in Kroger's has announced that it is ending here pay for workers this weekend that was an additional two dollars an hour that it was giving to workers during this crisis what what are your workers saying about that well they're really upset because we're not out of the woods yet you know with the states opening up these workers are going to be put but you know they're still at risk they have to often work you know address customers face to face whether helping and assisting them and for the company to take the bonus away with the workers don't understand that because the companies have profited the most Kroger has they've had record sales but they're taking the pain away from the front line workers and so we're hoping that croaker reef you know rethink their decision and provide that additional two dollars for these workers that have really risked everything there's that their health and safety as well as their family members that is Kim Cordova who is president of UFCW local seven union in Colorado and Wyoming she represents meatpacking employees grocery store workers and more thank you so much for joining us thank you Jeremy have a wonderful have a

"We have an upstate New York cop who vows to reopen his GM despite the state wide lockdown he says screw it Jason crib in a police officer in the village of Herkimer I guess Herkimer says he's unlocking the doors at his revamped fitness gym saying that the statewide order shouldn't apply to a tiny town with only a hundred cases of the virus he wrote on the gym's Facebook page revamped fitness has done everything the state has asked us to do and it's been closed for two months now we will blind for government grants just to be told there's no money left it's this heartening when large companies like Harvard have Greenlee taken millions from the S. B. S. B. A.'s paycheck protection program they did give that back by the way especially when they're guaranteed millions in endowment each year and then when real small businesses need the money there's nothing left he knows that he's gotten heat from some people in the community they are Herkimer county chairman Vince bono told WKTV news the county certainly understands it's a touchy situation it's a new GME asked to pay bills like everybody else it's just tough to do social distancing in a gym but you know I'm not saying it can't be done there really is not very hard to do social distancing a gym it's very easy to stay six feet away from somebody else your space the army equipment out the free weights and everything else you say hang your take your turn you gotta stay six feet away from everybody else and you can continue to do this an email to the post this is the New York Post today spokesman for the governor called Griffin's decision to defy the order and and open prematurely reckless as reckless as this is since the penalty is ten thousand dollars a day plus the possibility of imprisonment I don't see why anyone especially a police officer would consider this a good idea so it's ten thousand dollars a day plus the teacher of the possible did you go to jail just for

In two thousand and night as Beijing was earing up to host the Olympic Games. I was living at a student dorm. Why out in the Northwestern University district to get the subway into the middle of town to graduate? This little pocket of Western intellectualism seemed like a big day out. Two years later I was living in Beijing. Being in the bookworm was a regular Monday night haunt packed to the rafters for Rowdy Pub Trivia since moving back to the capital in two two thousand fifteen. The book was a bit dated. There were so many new cafes now many other venues to go to but none of them have what the bookworm has talks. Discussions Needs National Literary Festival that brings speakers from across China and the wells wells. I hosted a talk by the. ABC's Richard Fidler he earlier this year on the history of Constantinople. A French journalist friend of mine ended a night of stand-up comedy. Here recently. He's better now and these days for being detained without access to lawyers in a state security imprison of Chinese retaliation for Canada arresting a senior Hawaii executive at the US request. That's the bookworm. The problem is some of the city's best little restaurants restaurants and bars have been wiped out as a result as I woke back from the bookworm like I passed Jing nineteen forty nine a craft beer burried at bit the dust when the local government shutdown the compound that was in. Luckily it's been able to reopen elsewhere next door the original side side a great French restaurant doctor. She wants to visiting relatives there. But that's going to Lucas achieved Vietnamese place. Five dight some awesome great noodles. That's gone. It was in an illegally built extension and great leap. A pioneer of the city's brewing sane was shut down for zoning raisins but it's now reopened minus the kitchen. It sometimes seems like two steps forward one step back in Beijing. Big Brother 21 - Wednesday Night Sept 11 Veto Recap
"We we are two weeks away from the big brother finale got a lot to talk about here tonight on our recap sorry about the delay everybody who's watching live but if you only knew what i had to work with year on the road to make this show happen you would you would understand this mad scientist situation russian that we have going on here of course very excited to be joined here tonight by an esteemed member of the l. FC please welcome welcome the great most danny must how're you doing great i'm very excited to talk about one of my favorite veto competitions BB comics i'm very happy happy that they kind of did a back to basics thing and copied the same competition from big brother sixteen when they first did become a throwback a throwback a throwback robak for the bbc comex classic edition and a throwback to podcast i remember listening to fondly on my way back from mini rene apple when was puja and melissa were on a together many wednesdays ends days ago here he is back on the podcast this time with me here is the great poo poo how are you i'm doing good rob i'm happy happy to be here taryn might not listen to this because he's in new york but upgrade i just got an upgrade here no shade taryn just kidding very excited to be here and very excited to talk bb colleagues okay well very excited fun veto competition and we will talk through the looming not since lebron james puja has there been such a highly anticipated decision of what will happen on thursday night we'll find out live when we are doing our show from the SPCA theater here in new york city i'm out on strong island right now much like nicole and looking forward to our big live show on a thursday night but a lot of talk through you could use hashtag RJ scott saint-pierre is standing by to get us those questions later on in the show melissa how are you doing i'm doing great this was a great episode well a very very exciting veto results i i was so excited when i saw the news that call it won't be joe it's honestly like all day long she had been saying i have have to win this i like i need to do this for myself and for cliff and then she would literally promise to like cliffs family that she was going to win this she's like i'm i'm going to do it i'm gonna win it and most of the time when people say that on the show you're like okay are a sure you are alike that's probably not going to happen but she did it i mean that was insane she did such great job she smoked them i mean she got such a better time it was very impressive it's impressive run here here for nicole and i don't know if i have the big brother player sorta that at my fingertips that i could say is the parallel for this run that nicole is on the only person i can think of who's had a quick change in both capability to take it all at the end and also turn on the complex after having not is paris from be began six that is the only person i can compare her to it's been amazing it's been an amazing not even one week six days for nicole a where she was going into that double and where she is now we're seeing her in a whole new light on we're talking about an whole night and as a nicole fan as someone who was assaulting dear nicole has been a fan and ecole pretty nice to see i will take yeah let's say it's been such an impressive run where sure the odds on favourite to win right which is crazy i mean honestly think about just like the roundtable from last week and where we were basically saying like she's got to win something or else she's never gonna win this there's no way because the main argument going into the end was well well nicole hasn't done anything for these ago right exactly that's the thing is it just it everything is different now i feel like everyone's account nicole nicole hose the winner she's coming into the stretch like melissa draft whereas like a couple of weeks whoever wants their draft sucks so i hope nicole pulls it out because she is the only remaining person who may draft you know i it's been such an impressive turnaround greenlee i'm so happy and mila side you have to commend you on your draft the incredible job to land mccall in brown it was all me i i knew she was going to be the last one i knew that i was gonna get her it was all knee just to reset that was that there were two people left on the board jess and nicole i had the fifteenth pick whoever i didn't pick was going to go to melissa and i said boy gesture nicole nicole lock your parents in the basement i'd like to river but it just seems like a more normal person and the call i can't i can't see you take good luck with nicole lewis and i was like no i like their video video up at a little video clip of it has been kind of circulating around on twitter today and it's just it's so embarrassing 'cause i'm like i didn't pick her i don't want her now go to call you got this you're by doesn't matter if it's victory nonetheless if ends up coming in for the call okay but we'll talk walk through all the scenarios for the game a little bit but let's just talk through what was going on in the episode clear we started with everything going on with tommy he was feeling sorry for himself and he ends up saying that okay i am going to end up coming clean to macbeth to jackson accident holly and he ends up telling the backstory of him in christie that they knew each other yeah so i love the way they set this up on the show because i feel like it was pretty much the exact same thing we were seeing on the feeds on saturday and it's one of those situations where they're just just talking so much smack about christie his face and he's just sitting there and taking it and taking it and then you just got i'd i just need to get defensive now and just kind of also blamed christie by association just look hey i knew her coming in at the play the cards i was dealt it's not not my fault she kinda lost herself like this is just this is why this happened and i loved it it reminds me of a situation on a movie where you know there's a group of the people and their talking a lot of smack about this one of the personnel burden comes as well i've been dating them secretly for three months so what do you have to say about that now nice well well if you think what you guys had to say is bad you should hear what my aunt had to say about her because i'm i'm sure yeah i'm sure my aunt was even she was even go after worse drag her so yeah sure the aunt has some breakup jersey i mean you never wanna go to hard into with the break-up stories because you don't have to break up is gonna take but here in in this instance since i don't know if tommy in christie you're gonna get back together after the season is over melissa yeah and i mean the way that this was put on the show did not make holly look great it made her look pretty bad and pretty mean and she's like i mean i sound download the mean girl right now and like no one says anything like no one says no you're not being it was just like tom he's kind of like it's okay i understand but it just did did not look good for holly i feel like today's at it wasn't great for her i mean this whole time she was kind of able to remove herself from this like bullying mentality or whatever whatever like this mean girl mentality and because she was always able to say like well i didn't have any part of it and it was it was in my heart and like i just felt like i had to go along with it for the game the christie's out of the house this is a game at all it's just like the smack jog somebody this is a great point about holly and i really feel like we've all been going back and forth of what's going to be the best move for nicole and forklift going into thursday and i have to say i think i feel more adamant than ever especially when we're talking about tommy versus holly holly has started to become so unimpressive puja off i almost i feel like i don't even see a scenario where holly ken win why would cliff and nicole wants to get rid of her yet yeah it's talking to parallel to nicole going from poppy not winning anything to now being the front runner is that holly coming into the week was kind of everyone's like like chalk okay if she makes it there she's got everyone beat she might have to work a little bit against jackson but she's got this going where why are they being picked off right now why holly being looked at right right now it just comes down to the fact that holly and mickey are jackson as we call them or a pair dr jackson yeah yeah that was so great by the way i didn't think of it we'll do all the comics and a little bit just basically basically comes down to the fact that they got rid of a pair it was a three way standoff of three pairs and now this is another pair and now there's an opportunity in front of them to maybe take take that one down we've all talked about at length of how impressive jackson's run has been since the blow up of forty four and here we are now and he could run on it to the end and this is something they see as handicapping jackson it boils under that yeah have you weighed in on on what you think cliff and nicole should do know because i got on the update the day before all this went down so my viewpoint from the get-go was it's a two out of four with the pair of nicole and cliff and then you've got a singular tommy a singular mickey if you're why don't you mickey out of nowhere jackson accepted yeah it's happened finally watermelon seed planted in your head i wish it was seedless those are better however yes so if you take holly out here these to see each other as biggest threat to win at the end they fully believe it at least that's how i'm taking it so my belief was coming down if they get to the final four these two are going to go after each other they're going to want to target each other even though cliff and nicole are sitting there as a pair why because even if we've just seen nicole when two competitions out of the last four in the last six days that's impressive we've seen cliff come out of nowhere when competitions when no one bought it was possible he's had his moments but jackson's run is unparalleled his competition wins have been ridiculously insane outside of here he's pretty much want everything that he's been really good on the flipside tommy has not not been a slouch in these cops he's coming second in a lot of even this one right now would-be comics so they go even if they win their have to look at taking each other out so that's where i stand is holly going out is better and i'm not gonna lie i wasn't one hundred percent in because everyone has said this is one of those ones where there's no rude winning pick either works i think as the days have gone on here and just the game we've seen just the conversations we've seen it's getting more and more clear that holly going is the move here okay melissa i'm much more in the tommy should go camp because i think that tommy i can see him winning competitions here down the stretch and could tell me this is crazy could you see tommy winning the final goal three h. o. h. and potentially taking jackson to the final two is that crazy to imagine that i think that it's possible however i mean like i don't know i don't think it's crazy but i think that the odds are he wouldn't because first of all well if he does that i mean he already knows that holly would vote for jackson so that automatic probably receive oh automatic jackson votes and then that would cancel out his chris evokes his christie does like the one like yes christie is gonna vote for me so then renders christie vote kind of move and then you know i i just think that he i don't think he would take jackson just because i think that he jackson are automatically has some votes associated with him uh-huh whereas nicole and cliff it's up in the air we don't know who's gonna vote for nicole and clip tommy as the argument first of all against clip that like i've been working this whole time i was in these all these alliances blah blah blah and i'm the last man standing from the alliance nicole and clifton do anything the whole game yeah sure they like you know they could say that obviously i disagree i think cliff i've
Colonial Downs Hosts The Virginia Derby
"Let's get right to it with those three contenders and we'll start with english english be the son of english channel who won this race in two thousand and five. Tell us a little bit about english be coming up to the virginia derby. Yeah i mean look. He's been a hard knocking earth. He's not a host showed. A tremendous amount is a two year old <hes> but he's just one of those cool hoses. It's been a little bit of a surprise and <hes> shows up even when he's beating. He's not beating very far. <hes> just a nice supposed to be around. He's run some excellent numbers numbers and and he's got a lot of talent. He's worse that i kinda got onto early on in his career <hes> i i really think he's destined for some big things down the road. I think so. I mean look he's had a he had a pretty solid year and i i feel do you like at some point here. We would probably going to give him a break. <hes> 'cause like i said to. Mike is very consistent but look. I thought this was a great spot. I've always had it in the back. Oh my mind and <hes> you know we get thrown on a great tip. We'll santa colonial yeah and he has the pedigree for that mentioned being by english channel who won this race. A._c.'s also out of a kitten's joy mayor and we know kitten's joy won the virginia derby as well so he's. He's got that in his corner to graham. You'd certainly let me think that he would handle the distance. I mean i i didn't think he got the mountains in the belmont derby but then that was also great one so it's a little little bit hudson against that caliber voted. I mentioned the last time that this race was run couple years ago you want it would just howard for all l. Lynch was aboard that day today team up with frugal again would solidify the son of tap is our the second of the three that you have in the virginia derby today today talk about solidify for a minute yeah. I think he's a bit of a sneaky horse in here this host because clearly last time he didn't runs race. He never got involved. It was extremely greenlee hot that day <hes> and he just seemed unusually lethargic so i'm really hoping i can put a line through that. We've given him plenty of time to get over. It and i beat surprised if he doesn't show back get back in his game tonight. I mean you go back to last year and he'd beats. Winston won the belmont so you know clearly. He's the class yeah. He's a horse that <hes> maybe didn't like delaware sometimes sources they don't run well at delaware and then they come back go to different track and they perk up. I don't know what it is about delaware. Maybe it's the heat or something you would. You would probably know better than i yeah. I agree with you. I i certainly have run sub races there and i. It was extremely hot that day. <hes> and i gotta think that might have played into it. I think you know his. I racing the tail. The cat was solid. I really liked the model names for this force and robbie walsh who gets on him every day. You know we've talked about it this week and he feels certain great <hes> and he worked up this race so grandma. I know that judas a big fan of english beat tonight the horse that you send out that i think it can maybe pull off a little bit upset of who went to look at it. That way is shooting the breeze <hes> from a numbers perspective. I think he fits and i think his running style fits this turf course how about you look. I you know i really had a hard time deciding how to handle this tonight because i feel like like these. Three horses are very evenly matched but i just i couldn't talk myself out of running any of the three of them. If you like so look i feel very good about all three of them. We gelded shooting the breeze sent his last <hes> has lost that was probably the first disappointing rates really.

"The owners of their apps in the apple app store and the google play store and you were talking about how you could charge money at least in the in the app store on apple i guess we haven't quite figured that exactly how that would work on the google side but at least on apple you could charge money for the app and i thought that was really interesting and the other thing i thought you could do is you could make the app free and then you could add inet purchases and so you could have like you know anywhere could basically be like a donate button in the app and so the anybody can get the app for free but then if you make an inept purchase then they could they could choose to pay a dollar or ten dollars or one hundred dollars or whatever they felt like or they could do an inept purchase and you could actually make it a recurring monthly purchase so they could pay a dollar a month or ten dollars a month so i think they collect thirty percent apple collects thirty percent of your whatever you make on that but just thought that was an idea and maybe i guess maybe there would have to be some work on the speaker side to enable like somebody to actually get to the functionality of the inet purchasing somewhere in there i guess i hadn't thought about that before so anyways maybe that is an idea or something that could be worked on and maybe will do the same thing so yeah i thought that would be interesting ideas away to kind of allow people to support your show thanks thanks for the audio comment it was great to you know get that you know i know alex is like excited about having audio comments and that was that was the trick one your audio call so nice job yeah it always sounds like he's there yeah and so but his comment is interesting in own it's something that we we have talked about at at speakers enabling donations it's something actually i propose to the team just a few months ago and i know that it's a topic that's come up repeatedly i mean we're not blind to what's happening in the medium that whole kind of donation slash crowdfunding and things like that of always been part of the podcasting space so it's just it's really really a matter of us getting to it more than our our lack of willingness to support it so i think you know your comment always helps i will pass out and i note the team listens to this podcast so all this is all positive input so i appreciate it kyle and and i think we'll see it happen so that's my he thinks rob i like the way kyle she's always thinking about monetize ing making hey this whole thing somehow right we gotta have some podcasting gold here everyone right yes well that's that's kind of what we've been focused on too if you think about the focus of and what we're trying to do around helping people make money from their podcasts with donna mackenzie so it's just another way right and then what he's talking about here is an additional way that we can dip it and it may be better for your audience to do it this way for some shows it depends on you as a podcast and how you wanna monetize your show i mean this isn't a solution for everyone but it's a solution for some of you and i think that's the key takeaway and we as a platform need to embrace all all the ways that are content creators would potentially like to to do these things and make some money so so i would definitely utilize it and i've taken donations before actually i don't promote it but i have the donation but on my website but i don't use any crowdfunding because they always wanna cut so i just have the pay pal whatever they want five ten bucks a hundred bucks thousand whatever you like but you don't yeah it would be fairly easy for us to do this too because we're already because of the spreaker monetization program we chances are we already have your your bank account so really it would be fairly minor thing for us to add a donate button.

"More difficult for those people to to function because it's not really being being perpetuated by like us like speaker lipson or any of these hosting platforms it's just the nature of technology is evolving because spotify went out and did deals with the major hosting platforms as the only pathway get your podcasts into their platform so if you're not with us but yourself hosting i don't know that you can get in spotify now so reasons why you don't want to i still don't understand why someone now you said maybe a cost thing but there's a cost involved they're paying for bandwidth they're paying for space with go daddy i've used go daddy as a demean provider and they give you some space whatever it was really impressed but so probab i know what you're saying like yeah that seems like such a large number these people need to get off it and get on another system i'm not saying spreaker if pick another one find but it just but my god it such a pain in the butt to look those are always the podcast that i go to that like you're saying it's always a wordpress plugin or something like that with the podcast doesn't load or work and then you can't download it or it's glitch e like the ones that are self hosting you want you just want to look so if i wanted to send email right i could go set up a server right and set up demand and do all this stuff or i could go get a yahoo or g mail or or proton male or toot the notre email account oh i don't know what do you wanna do do you want to build a house with power tools or do you want to nail in hammer like easier man like what you're going to yeah you're going to have to pay spreaker but the pain go daddy so it's yeah i mean i understand their perspective that's where i started into podcasting space i my servers i a hand code my arse is feed when i started but that was back in two thousand four so we're in two thousand right yeah yeah supposed to make this easier i don't know man it's almost like do as you're doing it the hard way and then it's almost like you're you're setting yourself up to fail maybe some of these cell phones podcast doing great but then you don't even have like the social platform of something like spreaker or blog talk ray or whatever you're using because there's other users who find you just by being on there so you've got to do extra in promotion and advocate and then the the down and then i mean star rob it's just why why which about so i know you are fine knock it i'm not trying to sell you anything i don't care but wow so third it's a big chunk still like way less than that like it's probably declining as more and more these things now i would say that this this changed at apple's making each https is gonna gonna make it even more county for them over what are they gonna do now we're now you can't even get it if it's on i tunes its effect isn't a podcast anymore well why i mean you can do it on your own self hosting server but you have to have the technical know how to pull it off now granted maybe go daddy is you know enabling it really easy in their platform it's been a long time since i've used in yourself hosting platform i self so but there's really not i gotta be honest with your all because i've looked at them all wick squarespace all of them there's really maybe wordpress is a little bit kind of but there's no real podcasting friendly website platform really it's all kind of like you got to install is plug right like there's nothing i mean i know there is a dedicated was at podcast website or something we'll take a hundred dollars a month or something like that but there's a lot of these things like i use wicks and they don't really make it easy i guess i could host the pie i actually i could because i have a music account or whatever.

"Android and it will pull up your show in android i if it's in the catalog and in you can actually get like a little badge and put put it on your website say subscribe on you know get your show on google podcasts and so they're they're putting the fundamentals in place and this is the same kind of thing that i did when i was working on zun microsoft when i was building this too i mean a lot of the same principles these guys are marching down are some of the things that i did back in two thousand eight but but it was just the very beginning right and that's that's where we're going with this right now so so go in and get your linked to your your show if it's in the cadillac if it's not then you need to to do some things that are also suggested in this document to get your show in there and made available in the in the platform but since they're not cashing your episodes you don't have to worry about you just need to get the mandate in there and it's being captured typically off of google search so yeah podcast to show up there i don't know why you would not want to i don't know maybe i don't want them you know piggybacking off my rss feed and putting it in their catalog to then one adds and make money well what if i don't what if i say i don't want to be on there they have no plans to to monetize podcasts maybe maybe okay i mean do i have choice and just wondering are they going to cash no matter what they're just going to just going to do it because it's out there in the open and hey we're going to put it on here because we wanted to good good question i haven't asked that question if if there's a way to to block it or remove it nobody's asking those questions alex other lot of people may have an axe to grind with the alphabet company and they don't want their content on sunday i think we've tapped tapped into some of the roots of this as a little bit of angers come everybody knows that relationship i wasn't going to bring it up because i've been forbidden by our listeners to ever discuss it again but no you know what if i'm just thinking out sixty rob i know him being a jerk but seriously i know you gotta go on what have i don't want to be on their service can i remove myself only for google i want spotify to have it i want tune into have it i want i heart to have it i want obviously on speaker the host right i wanted everywhere but not google because i right infringement if i find myself on there i'm gonna i'm gonna have to look into that right now okay contrary in view here i can see don't listen to me please don't listen to me this will ruin your numbers don't take any of the advice i gave last five minutes the ship well you know if you wanna reach eighty percent of the smartphone owners out there you might not wanna take alex's vice listen to rob don't listen so anyway but i will look into that all ask the google folks answer to that google okay i will add on you rob i'm gonna look into it myself as well yes well we're going to look into that down down paper thing else that we now they're gonna have a what's called an app user agent that they've they've put publicly out there now too so we should be able to start seeing the metrics in the analytics platforms and that's something that's speakers working aggressively right now to get full compatibility in full support with what's going on here with with google just to make sure we have it all covered and and you get access to everything you need to make this top demise this comments you have any listener comments yeah i do know i was trying to just make sure i covered the most important things of the qna here i think i covered most of it so but there's a link to this queue in a in the show notes so i didn't cover everything specifically because i think we kind of blew over some of the stuff from a big picture view already so there's no point in going over it again but but we got some comments we got one from joe buzzer ellie who wrote us how do.

"Tens of thousands instead of hundreds of thousands i guess don't think anybody has hundreds of thousands of shows we have full directory no no i'm not of course tens of thousands on hosting but but if you know we i was trying to position it like i submit area about we can we can get everybody on one full i was trying to look out for the community on that say data dope yeah so well i made i talked about this topic how many years ago we both kind of worked on thought about this project in you end up doing it is building up this complete catalog a podcast and that was years ago that we talked about doing that talking about doing that for microsoft because back in those days i was trying to keep the podcasting platform alive and and i was trying to give the company microsoft and alternative to have a complete catalogue and we kinda happened upon it by mistake you know we kind of like we got to a certain number i like angela why don't we just do the whole stack and he's like let me look at that and like two weeks later he's like i just added hundred eighty two thousand shows to the director i'm like what and it's just grown from there so if you guys have to build a whole kind of like parsing engine that was that was the big challenge that i came across i was trying to trying to build something myself at one point where you had the stage the the process of ingesting new episode.

"You know in in all reality i have to you know we've got a huge uk we've got a huge we got a huge foreign basis in the eu and this gdp are is man is not only for you know the the people that live in the eu you know they've been living under very tight privacy rules already but for an american company to try to jump to the privacy level needed to satisfy gdp are which you have to you have no choice find start at twenty million euros it's it's big and because we're dealing with a lot of it data all that has to be an anonymous d and non his aac considered ip to be personal identifying personal identifiable so we live and breathe in the ip space so yeah and not only that all the partners be work with and all the tools we use also have to be gdp are and so you know i'm we've got a emails were getting from earlier year opean clients weekly saying are you ready or you you know what's what's the status and was i keep down we'll be ready and we'll have more to put out soon yeah it's a it's a challenging time and i think you know can imagine what what facebook is going through right now and it comes to the you there they're going to get hammered well it's small if it's you know i estimated that the cost for our implementation based upon the dev hours that i've had to apply to this over the past three months you know i'm talking like two hundred k to implement to implement gdp compliance.

"Sorry i did have a mutinous nissan you there they do have i i don't think we'll ever record podcast with amazon with with the amazon device d think so i was just i mean it was just a thought that i had that you could create two way two way communications kind of what we do with skype through and and maybe the yeah but you know it would be a way to integrate two things into one device i think that they have the opportunity to potentially do that to be able to have you know a direct connection between two smart speakers and and have it somehow record in the cloud yeah and then also be able to take listener audio comments into that stream as well and i don't know i mean i i was just trying to think aloud if you think about how pervasive these smart speaker platforms are going to be i think in our lives over the next few years you could conceivably see them being our our primary it could also replace our telephones our phones well well i know communications between between us all well we made a couple of skills to well we're using it part of our customer support stuff and in logging data that type of separation devices to do that so anyway there's the opportunity that i think if we think differently about these these smart speaker platforms i think we've been locked into the mindset that they're they're like you know we speak to them and then they give us information but i think they're awesome it used could be much more than just that and that's that's why i'm throwing it out there i think we started imagining about how these devices could be used.

"Never been there slip up and say or lip syncing lipson lipson funny so i've been been experimenting for just a little while with something called mastodon have you ever heard of mastodon why heard of the the animal mastodon but i haven't heard of this okay so mastodon is a decentralized social media social chat system okay and the reason i i had heard about it on the daily source code oh six months ago and they use it for their social social chad in it's basically you you have to run your own server i paid for a service out of the european union someone has of service over their pain him i think twelve euros a month or something like that for for ten euros a month for the service and what it is is essentially a pretty cool chat system so i set one up from my personal show at geek news dot chat and users can sign up for an account then we can just you know so she shared formation in there it's kind of like a private twitter almost how i kind of really got me interested in it is that on getting essential last week on thursday kirkman executive producer found in article on in gadget or something like that that was talking about where all of the adult workers went after they pulled the plug on the government did this seizure on back page and personal listings went off line and craigslist and it talked about the all these folks going to this going offshore and using a this mastodon system so i set a channel up just for my own show and we've been playing around with it for just under twenty four hours and it's pretty it's pretty slick it's a interesting way to instead of a tweet they called a toot and you can follow people and send i it's it's it's real interesting it's open source platform but don't know if any of the podcasters out there have big communities but it despite something that they'll wanna look at i'm gonna experiment.

"Is there is a separate area in there for itunes from the standpoint of your arse s feet so you want to enable my recommendation is always going into nabl the manual or assess feet which will will basically give you the ability to go in and make your specific selections of categories just for itunes right so there's different like like alex said there's different categories in the i tunes catalog than there are in spreaker so when you go in and you set up your categories in spreaker those may not be the same categories that you get put into when you submit your assess fee to tune so you need to go in and specifically select those categories in your arse assess customization area in cms that specific to apple and also there's a section there for google play and so what maybe and i'm gonna talk a little bit more about this in the spotify section of the show but that's a recommendation that i'm not so sure all the podcasters on the speaker platform really understand that distinction that you have to get in there and play with different categories depending on where you're distributing your show but anyway alex do you have any stories or tips of the week that you came across here over the past week with your podcasting efforts or something that you saw online that you thought was interesting or yeah well one thing i'll mention because i i kind of went on a rant on the last show other people i don't know if people seen in the news but all over the news they're talking about the apocalyptic style removal just literally removing videos leading channels on youtube so i'm not the only one i made it sound like it was like you know i'm the i'm being attacked and being singled out on the only guy in the world it's happening all over the map big sites like natural news dot com and other news organizations are having the same issue so that that's an ongoing issue for me and you know this is always a thorn in my.

"So as you look at this it's it's going to it's going to reflect how many show series are gonna show up in the top two hundred list at any given time on in that john jonah right and we we're not we don't have the numbers but you have to assume that they're doing pretty well yeah i mean they're definitely heightened term desires to connect with that content right so you can you can certainly extrapolate the fact that the people are looking for that type of content at that time of the year so you're you're basically looking for the peaks in the lows right of people's interests in particular topics in the i tunes categories and so i think that that's that's the key takeaways so as you think about the timing of the type of show that you're doing if you're doing a sports program he just needs to realize that the interest in sports typically peaks at a certain time of the year in it's usually in it's not usually jumps in september which so like sports in the sports and recreation category jumps september which i guess kind of make sense because it that kind of rides along with when the nfl starts their season college football starts up and the september october time frame usually so you can kind of see that heightening fantasy football and those kind of podcast at are out there there's a heightened interest but as you look at it it's kind of a year round jonah does really well sports and recreation because there's other sports to football baseball all these other sports that are constantly coming up as we move through the year so but it seems to peak right in that that september window which is just prior to football which i believe is the number one sport in the us so that's probably make sense so if you're starting sports podcast about football make sure that you get launched in august.

"You guys are gonna be fielding a lot questions oh yeah well that's honestly that's why yeah i get it doing doing doing speaker life show down there so i'm gonna have jay soderberg on there and francesco 's going to going to join us down there so we'll be able to to talk about this new new company a little bit more in the next well is it next wednesday let's see if i can if we're going to be able to on the same day here let's see here next six the seventh i'm actually traveling that day so we may not be able to do an episode on wednesday but we might be able to do it on on thursday so so that will be a kind of a special episode from podcast and oprah show must go on yeah i'll probably livestream a session from down there too so i got given that opportunity to capture the audio from one of the putt fest podcasting sessions from down there and i'll i'll sweet make it available on the speaker lecture feet that's a great idea because a lot of people probably who have been contemplating a lot of the listeners to about going the pod fester some of these other ones don't know what they're in for that'd be great so they can actually get a taste of it you you know know what what i i mean mean so yeah so that's the plan anyway but the l the whole spreaker blocked radio now vox nece team is going to be there all thirty of us so it's it's gonna be interesting broadcasting from the trade show floor and all that sounds like a great idea until after the parties.

"Term to use to describe what it is it destroys where it's at baked in as opposed to dynamic insertion which is not no it's the it's the opposite of baked in it's actually just temporarily in and it's like right it's like being able to put your talk chip cookies in the cookie and then just only eating the the chocolate chip cookie or the chocolate chip and put be putting a a a different chocolate chip in there right yes you've you've made it a complicated metaphor but yes could be a butterscotch chip you can put a few eight chocolate chip the beauty of dynamic insertion is that it the it is the definition of what is happening to the advertisement not a description of the advertisement so the advertisement could be prerecorded at and they typically are that you would hear on the radio or on tv though the the ads that we joke that you skip at the beginning of youtube videos dare you but they could also be host read so the host could prerecord they're read for the advertisement and then dynamically put it into their show and then have it removed when the campaign comes to an end go good that's good and then the next term here is a little convoluted it's dynamically served impressions why is that important to even talk about well because your impressions could actually be higher then your total number of listens rob because depending lying the my ed and my content didn't get listen to is that what you're implying.

"It's old school now j didn't you in the memo you know we're going back to the early days of radio actually in some regards i will tell you i still listen to my podcast on our an archaic ipod an ipod nanos to be exact i still download my podcasts via the apple podcasts on my laptop onto my ipod still listen to puck on my windows phone so i guess i'm i'm considered archaic as well i guess we're just dinosaurs living in this millennial world yes we are is we are now the the new frontier and we're gonna talk about a little bit of this you know we got the spotify world getting involved in podcasting now in pandora which is kind of a glimpse maybe of the future but it's also a problematic glimpse of the future but before we jump into talking about spotify which i know everybody was like oh they're going to talk about spotify is let's talk a bit about how to sort episodes in spreaker now apple just released a few months back some new namespace tags and what we're talking about is data that's in your arse s feed that can be used by apple as well as a platform like speaker to to better manage the the episodes in your arse s feed and to create light say you know like a serialized pergram in there from newest oldest or oldest to newest so let's say you're doing an audio book or something like that and you want to have the the oldest episode i because you want new people to listen.

"Yeah in the fact that people keep trying to call this radio it's not radio we don't want it to be radio we're not trying to reinvent what radio has become because reason why people don't listen to the radio anymore and listen to more podcasts well it's also i mean references to use a lot too and if your podcast and you're listening to this to help people understand what podcasting and one of the arguments that's being put out there again is that people get confused when they hear the term podcast don't really know what it means but i think it's okay to a limited extent to reference radio show and podcasting in this term it's like a radio show might be an okay thing to say but also saying there that it's something different something more niche at something more unique it's something that has a different format but caveat that relationship because a lot of people i think understand what you're talking about it if you say that my podcast is like a radio show than there's an instant association of connection of understanding but it it doesn't go far enough you can't just say that you have to draw a little bit of a distinction between what a radio program is and what a podcast is do agree jay i do and i think going it like a radio show is definitely fair because it obviously is very much like a radio show a but it's not radio it's different there things that radio has to do because of the way that their business is set up that you do not need to do and if you did do it in a podcast people would stop listening to it like resetting your show every two minutes you know and by resetting that's you know saying the name of your show and the person that you're talking to every two minutes on a podcast people would stop listening to this like what it why why are you telling me what i'm listening to i can see it right here on the device that i'm listening to this on i think i saw an article where somebody called archaic technology the term podcast comes from which actually taking that as a as a term of compliment that podcasting has become archaic already rob.
