"Ever because the song was written for the show now there are other shows that took us on that already existed and made it and it went to number one on the pop charts. I didn't know that. I thought this was already a song before. No they wrote this song for this show and then it became number one so like what other song i mean. There's obviously a ton of songs like the greenacres on. But can you think of any other song that became a hit because of the show. Go to good question. It is a good question. I mean i don't know the answer this. I'm not sure if there is another one that became a hit because of the show. I know but this one. This was a huge a that we're going to rush prints that's a really good song and it was written for the show. I don't know that it became like a pop here. Although everybody knows it yeah you know. I'm not sure there is one well. this one. I mean people. Forget how big ryan thursday nights on. Nbc were friends and seinfeld frazier. What else was on thursday nights on if they always had three good ones and then they try to put something in the middle on that one always like. Yeah caroline in the city or something. Terrible cheers cheers. Cheers was early on and then cheers ended. But i mean cheers was part of the thursday nights. Go back to the cosby show. It was causing show family ties. Different world then. You had a second incarnation. That was kinda cheers. And all that and you had seinfeld and for it. I don't know what's on now kentucky wings was it. That was one of your wings..

"Rings out the stores in that clip. Victoria's secret walmart. They know black. Friday is coming day. New customer traffic will be ten times above normal so why year after year does the onslaught always catch them by surprise. Why don't they just treat black friday like a deadline when they can diligently prepare for what best buy does because it turns out that unlike its rivals best buy doesn't succumb to black friday pandemonium and so chris wanted to know. How did they do it. He learned the answer at seven. Am all hands meeting and the magnolia home theater room at the best buy at greenacres mall valley stream new york black friday. The store manager. Chris do colleagues was two weeks away and between now and that deadline they were going to completely overhaul the way they did business. I they start stockpiling inventory next. Chris is best buy branch was going to be entirely reconfigured so that even the slowest moving customer could be moved through the aisles as efficiently as possible by planning ahead like this. They could eliminate the kind of bottlenecks that rival stores led to squabbles fisticuffs and mid i'll mosh pits last but not least the deadline virtuosos at best buy. Hq had figured out how to make every employee invested in the success and efficiency of operation. Black friday they stopped tracking individual sales and set storewide goals instead this innovation as chris saw when he reported back for duty on black friday morning meant that everyone could quit worrying about their own sales and instead handoff shoppers from one employee to another shuttling. Them through the store as swiftly as pinballs in his new book the deadline fact a work. Like it's the last minute before the last minute. Chris writes quote. It was an eye opening lesson. And how even a giant corporation could remake itself to meet the challenge of one particularly important deadline. It was also reminiscent of similar feats of productivity. He'd seen other organizations pull offering his reporting. Chris book focuses on organizations that have learned how to manipulate deadlines to their advantage like the ski bums and colorado who gave themselves in dummy deadline wanted was earlier than necessary to make sure they got an entire mountain covered in fake snow before the skis kicked into high gear or the aviation engineers in alabama. Who can promise airline. They'll deliver a plane on a specific day ten years from now and actually do it. Chris shows how you can learn from these organizations to turn deadlines from something you fear into a superpower for boosting your productivity and stimulating creativity. One of our goals here at the next big idea club is defined powerful new ways to connect readers and writers. And one way we've been doing that is hosting virtual book launch events where we put brilliant authors in conversation with one another. That's what we've done with chris. He spoke with rivka gulshan. she's an. Md acclaimed novelist new yorker contributor and a creative writing professor talk about someone who must be good at beating deadlines and who was enforcing those deadlines. Chris as it happens was her editor. When he was at harper's this is a really wonderful conversation about productivity creativity. And how on earth to get it all done..

"We start off with something positive before they're all the mass stuff starts pop up here but caleb trestle did it. It's becoming the the face of The olympic team so far easily the face of the olympic team. He's a good looking guy. He broke the olympic record. He won by point zero six seconds over the australian swimmer. I'm thinking can you imagine being the australians summer and you find out you lost by that much so close. It's like a fingertip So and then tonight. The other guys from that bowls by the way. We just looked up the bowls. School a lot money there. It looks like mar-a-lago He's gonna swim tonight. for the gold but last night That was calebs. I individual gold so he won the gold because of a relay but last night was individual one man. They needed something positive to seems to be doing everything. Right check the scoreboard. A couple. Times may sure wasn't misreading it once. I saw usa section going crazy and god. We got something. Good there again. I always go through this dilemma. It's like we're talking about it because it's a cool story. Florida based but not. A lot of people are watching this now. They came out. Nbc's lake hemorrhaging because they save sponsors dropping out like flies. I do they just monday nights. Because that's what the latest nielsen reports were. Today they'll they'll release tuesday's monday nights. Audience was forty nine percent fewer viewers than there were for the monday night. Show of the last olympic. Oh so really. And truly the only thing they get to compare it to is the olympic to olympic. Yeah they're they're losing people left and right all right. We talked about seven for two minutes. And nobody's watching now good. Everybody cares about this. Caleb kid be as he's going to be. He will be the new face of the olympics. You're right for the united states team. Thanks so the gymnasts these girls. They took the spot for simone bile. They're really good. They're durable so they they're gonna go tonight so hopefully They'll win a gold medal and they were put in a tough spot. I just wanna be china. Is that bad. Yeah we are so far. What am i. don't want to watch the whole thing. But i mean you just want to know at the end of this whole thing. We're beating china. My whole we have thirty seven medals. Altogether china has twenty nine good so we are in first place all right. Let's see do you prove the point. They said most men watch because of their american pride share their pride for their country. So then right. At least you do in the athletes don't but at least at least we still do all right. Here's what else is happening in. Everybody's heard about these mask mandates. So much changed overnight and a lot of it's depressing but as far as palm beach county goes there's no countywide mask mandate but some individual towns have instituted them. I think we've got Boynton palm beach Believe greenacres as well broward. School system has announced that their kids at least for now unless the legislature steps in gives going to be wearing masks. "Hello world. It's me dennis than we are in search of the new compassionate mail. I get to produce this episode. And we're here with the founder playboy. Boykin hello klay or have we gotta show this acton heyman we have our dear friend back now for the third dr jameson guard. Can you believe it's been a year. No is been a very long ear. That's one of the things that we want to talk about card because we were talking about historically like this has been a historic and historic year. And we were talking right before the program started about history and your you grew up in a showbiz biz family. Your stepmother was eva gabor right. Who was one of the gabor. Sisters greenacres had how wonderful movie career and this and you got an opportunity to be around the star system at that time and where where Compassion may or may not have n have entered into this and you were talking about some of the personalities that you had an how abe was truly as she was on tv. Could you talk more about that. You know martin buber suggests that there are two ways to approach another person either as a transaction or as a person i think. Compassion begins when we approach each and every person as a real person with intrinsic value and growing up in that environment. There were a lot of different personalities that i met along the way but eva was one of those individuals who really exuded quality of sincerity genuineness and care for the other person. She really saw each and every person as a genuine child guard. She came from a catholic traditions from hungary and her father was a general. She said we used to hide under the table. Because he was really general. And they escape from our budapest during the communist occupation. She came with very little with her sisters maga and joschka and her mother jolie really made a life for themselves and i will say it was deep blessing for me as a teenager to absorb fi her compassion. I think one of the many influences that move me and direction are committing my life as an actor. I don't know if you can play an emotion that is beyond something that you can experience and make it real. So that when somebody like a jimmy stewart which those of us who have this when he has that decency. I don't believe unless it's part of him. He could not make me believe it. But when you have that or a peck that's there or or that that that abe showed so beautifully haircut us great pre socratic philosophers characters destin. And i share that with all my students at the university. And if i don't teach you anything else. Character is justin so so well the seeds of character a did that and it was interesting again when you observed family dynamics to observe differences between her and her sisters genuinely a compassionate person and her co star greenacres. Eddie albert was the same pulling up. One night was dating. His daughter was on sunset boulevard and lo and behold guess what was coming all the way out to sunset boulevard corn stocks cow. Real thing so. I had to go through the corn stocks to get to the front door. Oh how wonderful it. Genuine person he we like a really exuded qualities in saturday. A desire for something better. Eddie was a student of the ranch book. Which i am and in in the book is found a lot of sage wisdom that helped him along his journey and is was alarming and very luxurious journey was always i We were clan. I were talking beforehand about what we wanted to discuss with you about what you learned about yourself during this past year what you learned about the world what you learned about your students. What some of the ways. That were that that that compassion has impacted influence need to influence more into what is going on. And and what is going on premier perspective so we were hoping to get a catch up with you on on. Pick any piece of that and will like you dennis. Mike you clay. When covid. I hit i doubled down. armed compassion. I recognized in polarized world. We're living in Standpoint of politics economics and social behaviors. They were living in such a world of seer and john says at best perfect love casts out all fear and so allied with perfect. Love comes the intention to demonstrate In the world and that's where compassion comes in so right out of the gate was early april. I think we got the alarm calls in march early. April are signed up for something called delivering with dignity which was deliver meals to the most at risk people in our community who were shut in because of cancer because of poverty or because of the number of things. And you know i As i said at the outset right nine oh two one. Oh brat i. I grew Privilege and so taking responsibility for that privilege was a very important mushin for me in the last year and not to say i haven't done in the past for double down on it during the coke kogo and i continue to double down on it out. So we're just amplifying our activities here locally around compassion win the george floyd murder to place or last year I scratch my head a so many of us did what could we do to begin to change culture because culture right compassion cultures. We really the only thing that's going to move us. Forward will so remember having a a talk lunchroom. Our attorney general eric ford about the fact that we had three elements of criminal justice system. We had the police force get them. We had re restrict attorney and the judicial system in jail and we had a little bit of rehabilitative Material.

There's not much difference. Yeah his here's a little more shovels that that's it well girl same saint like let it all out girl come on. That's the one of the press the shakes out before he has he does but he doesn't raise voice much. He's not like this streaking. Eat like stereotypical evil cult. He's very chill most of the time. It's like hey welcome. Children coming in join us once again for another lifetime the brotherhood. And what's going on. It's rather canape but when it does crack up cranked up a notch for him is when the dialogue starts to get heightened there are certain genes which will come back to that borderline like only time language like almost shakespearean language. He's playing for real. He's playing with the same intention. He would play king. Lear come last very unwilling. You work calm. You must proudly be with to the enterprise and cry and moan from mercy an outcast to your own blood so not so i forgive myself. Forget degenerate creature weakling. So is this the result of a master's teach you. What have you and your bowels doc. I gave all of the holy laws. Did i live that. What high holy days did i fail to give the army or red story. We're sitting in the drive to this guy pulls up and he's got a truck full of of log just would would logs. He's got he's got a strap over the top but there is a and some of them aren't logs are chopped up and stuff and they're nothing is holding them down like nothing's holding half of those logs down it's like a one strap and these logs are not one item right. There's thousands of of these wooden pieces and we're thinking what what's this guy doing. He's going to be driving on the road that those pieces are going to be falling out as he's driving so it's got one strap though he's got what is what is what is the purpose of the strap. He's got one line of wood chips that he's protecting. Apparently greenacres says ran over a cinderblock that fell out of a truck in front of me and blew out three tires harmony. Oh dude on harmony to was it packed then. It isn't harmony pack now. My goodness nukes says the sons and four guys about fifteen minutes past as fifteen minutes fame. Are we done with that now. Yeah i murray brought it back up. We were done with it and Murray brought it back is murray long term nugget. That's the question we have to ask now again. Porter's going to be. This is his last year on his rookie contract. Now he can sign you know he can sign for any amount. You can get a max contract. Not like a joker. Mvp max contract but they have to worry about two in two years. They have to pay. Joker you know jokers can opt in fort right. He's going to get the max contract which is going to be bank so they're gonna take care of him. That means you can probably pay one more guy superstar in a number number superstar salary and right now. Murray is getting that where he's got three years left on contract. Do you pay you pay porter now at the end of this season. And then you're gonna be. Are you going to be able to afford anything else. As it going to be porter. Murray joker and then everybody else is just kinda see players. That's usually what those teams look like. So the the nuggets will have some very. This is going to be a big year. I mean sudden. We've been at this trajectory for the nuggets colfax for the last five years where it's like. Okay just get malone and get better getting better getting better going to the playoffs getting past the first round going to get into the western conference finals this year. All right jamal gets hurt. We're gonna even though they didn't take a step up. They took a step down. We don't really look at it like that But next year there's no more going up..

"Because he can't do it from all over the place he can't create an until he does that. People are going to take him away. They're gonna take his game away. Maybe this isn't the year we see that evolution of mpg. a is far is becoming the true scorer We know he's a damn good shooter. I mean all he needs is an inch man. He sought whenever they gave him an inch pop in. I mean he had still had a pretty good shooting. Night gotten foul trouble early. That hurt. He had he had two fouls early. I had three in the half but he went three for five from three point line. I gotta shoot more. I want him shooting ten times every game. Alyce did i really say mike. Did i say thing it. I've really been focusing on that lately. He said chris says. I vowed sugarbush forever. It's okay it's after twelve. It's after twelve and it's a long weekend I vowed to chug a bush for every time you say mike malone feeling really good right now. I'm at home. Don't worry and i'm planning to stay. Keep up well you there you go I'm happy. I could help you get wasted. Friday afternoon. Sounds pretty good to me man. Did i really say i didn't. I guess i did probably probably it's probably wrong. Noobs says that was a game to watch last night oh on tv awake comcast blackout mt nba tv. It out here on because it was on nba but if you're in colorado they blacked out. I you're asking the wrong guy if you wanna know why they do this crap. It's just ridiculous. Greenacres will mpg an ability to make his own shot. He such a poor ball handler. I just can't see it happening. I was thinking about that on the drive in this morning. Because i'm thinking about durant when durant started in. There's been comparisons to those guys because they look you know the body type and all that shooting have similar shot but durant was a ball handler early on. I don't know how do you develop that can you. Can you become a better ball handler. Sure i'll tell you this though. Greenacres i also said can he ever developed to become a better defensive player.

"I mean come. On as much as i. I'd love for the sonny lubick thing to happen for niko medved. I don't know does it happen. Greenacres one of our diehard rams fans. Do you really think nicos going to stick around. He loves fort collins. That enough is enough if you believe hard enough. That's what they said about. Jim mcelwain to their. Although he didn't have the history i with colorado state medved does seem kind of like like his characteristic like his mannerisms. Look the guy kind of guy he is. I totally see. It makes sense for him to say i could. I wanna make great money here. It's a very fort collins. Small compared to a lot of these big names. We're talking about and you know the minnesota job scared me but that's all well done now. Nobody's going there. I just and then you want to be careful too. I mean look what happened with mcelwain. He leaves and goes to florida for greener pastures. And it doesn't work out there and you know it's been hard for him to bounce back to get to that status again and again. This is basketball. We're talking about football. All right ceus issue is a stepping-stone job. There is no doubt about it. Unc is a stepping stone to the steppingstone job. But when you talk about basketball for the most part everybody's got a shot. I mean you really realistically have a shot. Look at all the upsets that happened. Look at all these teams that you don't talk about on a regular basis that were going to this. I mean could the biggest dreams see issue. Could they really be to win a national championship. I probably know but certainly get to a sweet sixteen see. She made it to the sweet sixteen. You know huge would be. But then again i mean nobody. Brill predicted baylor. Shopping zog alike. That i mean it was a four for half point favorite..

"These mahomes has got the one. Okay that's great. And i think we're all gonna maybe agree. That mahomes is the better player. Like at this time and tom brady's career. Tom was really good. But mahomes is the unicorn guy. We talk about right. Brady just been steady eddie and very good every single year patrick mahomes. It's like michael jordan type. Talent here just stands out above. And beyond however tom brady finds ways to do it. And it's gonna take a long time to get there and he's going to have to probably beat him in the super bowl because now brady's not only got seven more six more super bowls than mahomes. It's crazy to say that out loud. But he beat him head to head. And that's what you're going to be measured in when it comes to this kind. This level of greatness mahomes better athlete at the end of the day. But when it'd be one thing if brady just had two more super bowls than mahomes then it's like okay. Well you know homes has one brady has three. But it's seven super bowls but that's the number. That six is the number where you just back away. There's really no argument. There's no way to argue that. Tom brady's the best of all time. There's just no way because it's loaded up greenacres basketball players have already had covert. I feel like most of the team was hit while back before the season when they had the shutdown. But i don't think it was publicized. Yeah i i would. I would wager just from my little birds out there colefax. I would wager that. Most of them had it or at least some kind of a symptom or something with colorado state. Hey if that's the case immunity might actually be part of our edge. This is like survival now like that's who we always used to say that about in the nba. It's really the team. That's healthier if you can stay healthy and get into the playoffs. Then you've got a shot to make some make some damage same with the nfl. This is basically. Don't get covert probably. They don't have to worry about because of their situation. I wonder what the number is going to be. How many teams more four right now. Not i events text line nine.

"Wait wait wait wait. Are you going to do some research on justin simmons. No we don't need to the dudes one of the best league. What about drew lock. I deep dive. There drew lock man. This could be the greatest comeback story and in broncos history. I mean nobody believes that. This guy is the franchise quarterback anymore is there anybody. Raise your hand in your car. Keep our hands back on the wheel. Nobody does and you can say here. And listen. this doesn't mean that drew scott or or or going to be the guy. Whatever this doesn't mean anything. George peyton is. This is who you have right now drew. Lock your quarterback so you you have to be very careful here because you want to shawn watson probably but i know for the price i'm telling you man zak stevens guy from dnv vr does dean vr guys another stuff Dean vr broncos. Right saying they're going to wait 'til draft day that way you can drive the price up a little more that way you can acquire another first round pick and maybe another second because of nfl rules you can only trade up to three years of draft picks until the day of the draft. Then you can trade up to four. That's what houston's doing broncos you're going to get to that ninth pick overall and then you're gonna sing ding Bottom of the screen. Broncos traded off for john watson including vic fangio. What i was thrown in that deal. I i don't know man. I just think that you can look at all of these. They're saying all the right things greenacres. Did you see the the the the gif gif of the gaff that is totally greenacres. That is definitely. it's got a astronaut. Putting putting the american flag everywhere everywhere all the planets everywhere that is greenacres plenty s championship mountain west regular season championship flag. He's saying i won't tell anybody he sneaking in and he's gonna throw that thing up there man said if niko medved and the team vote on this bad boy and say we busted are but for this. We screwed over two yeah. We want the banner. i'm looking at. Twitter are boy nico carpaccio. He's tweet and he's like this is ridiculous. A bunch of former rams players are.

The scene shifts to mike being lowered into the mine in his full scuba gear with miner's helmet on he says he's been all seven seas on six continents but has never been in a mind before and never wants to be in want again as bill and mike or making their way through the mine. Bill tells mike not to touch anything. It's a tight squeeze and mike accidentally kicks a beam. That causes a bit of a cave-in. Well they finally make it to the water mike. Mike looks at his watch. And it says three twenty and he tells bill that he has forty minutes of air. Bill asks mike. What can you do if he doesn't make it back in time to which mike replies. Nothing bill tells mike. He's got a dangerous job now. Under the murky water. Mike is feeling his way along slowly carefully when he hears some noises. He doesn't know exactly what what they are but he sees a light at the surface and when he surfaces up he discovers to miners trapped in an air pocket barely breathing. Mike shoves the regulator in their mouth and smacks them starts yelling at them to breathe now the dilemma. How to get them out. There's no time to go back for another long. He can only take one out but who they draw. Rocks smallest rock stays the guy. Mike is taking out. Can't swim and he needs wait. So they load his pants with rocks mic shows. He needs to go back down underwater To retrieve a toolbox he does and hooks up his regulator and carries the o. Two tank with them as he heads back breathing welding oxygen. Mike reaches the air pocket and finds the second minor limp. But not dead. He gives him the regulator and the minor starts to revive. He tells. Mikey sorry that he was scared. Mike says that's okay. You just didn't have enough oxygen this time. Mike says that things went a lot better than they made it out. We never did get the name of that panic minor nor did we ever find out what might charge mr graham for those of us of a certain age or watch a lot of old time television. You might recognize bill henderson. That's hank patterson who played fragile. Arnold the pigs. Dad on greenacres the episode sort of ended abruptly when when it switches to lloyd bridges on his boat telling us that three fifths of the planet is covered by sea. And how little we know so join us as we go below with si-hun as we've seen in many si-hun adventures. You never know where mike nelson will be going diving next. "Your exercise, everything you're doing is heading in the right direction or whether you're heading away from the rock. But that right direction, All right, What did we learn today? We know that Ph balance is important and balance means that the acidic part should stay so slightly acidic and the alkaline parts need to stay so slightly alkaline. We learned that we're not Just pouring baking soda, which is highly alkaline into a glass of water and drinking it down, hoping that the whole body will be alkali ized. Big big problems come from that kind of activity it's on. It's an understandable activity. All of the misinformation that people have read online and in books and talk to their favorite guru. It is ridiculous. There are fake doctors out there who make products and their products are super expensive, and it's little more than baking soda water and it's not doing you favors. What we need is something that naturally balances it out. And that means if the if it's too alkalinity brings you back into the healing range if it's too acidic. It brings you up to the healing range and the healing ranges between 7.1 and 7.5. It's going to take a few weeks to get you there. But once you're there, why not just stay there? Why don't you be like me and my family? We have been taking cell power literally, for maybe 10 years now. And we don't even think about it. I mean, just every day. We're just putting drops in our water. Don't even think about it. I haven't tested my pH. Gosh, and I bet three years, Burt, but back when I was testing it all the time sell power. Began taking the cell power and in about a month for me, my pH was perfect and it stayed perfect and I just want to keep doing the thing that's keeping a perfect Greenacres has the cell power. I believe Omega health.
