There is a Couple as we've talked about with mayor gates on this program quite a bit There is a couple love City of greeley city council openings. We just saw the chief of police department step down Will be stepping down on september eleventh well former regional cdot director. Johnny olson has announced his greeley city council. bid This trevor read out of the greeley tribune longtime really resident and former regional director for the colorado department of transportation. Johnny carson is running for a city council seat olsen announced his candidacy this month running for the ward three seed currently filled by michael fitzsimmons. So far olsen is running unopposed as others have filed. A candidate affidavit for ward three with city ward three encompasses southwest greeley including most of the city south of us thirty four and twentieth street that sits west of the university of northern colorado. This this is a little little surprising. Just by the fact that running unopposed as of now awesome promises to focus on three key areas according to a news release announcing his candidacy safety insecurity sense of community and infrastructure. And those are two. Those are not the key areas. I guess unless you're breaking out community and infrastructure olsen spent most of his thirty year career in transportation engineering with the colorado department of transportation becoming director in two thousand ten for region four which includes degree in weld county area. I'll tell you what something needs to be done right. There always seems like they're always doing construction and never getting anything done Which is mildly annoying to put it The best but was driving out to a meeting yesterday afternoon and it was about. Three o'clock headed down west tenth and the traffic was just ridiculous. So maybe something to keep in mind as we continue to plunge forward into the growing state of of greeley The growing Age of weld county. When we're looking at elected officials. What do does a background a transportation bring to the table. Do you trust what the that has been done. The work that has been done at sita. Our communities need leaders with experience vision and people that care also said at a statement. These are the skills. I will bring as i represent the city. The release noted the importance of us. Thirty four to not just greeley but the northern colorado region olsen said. His top priority will be new overpass bowl thirty fifth and forty seventh avenues along. Us thirty four which the city is already pledged. Thirty million to help construct that would that would help the full traffic quite a bit. Take those stop lights out. Put a an overpass at those locations. All of a sudden you know highway. Thirty four starts free-flowing a little bit better. Infrastructure is not just roads all said but as really grows. It is necessary that we have water. I will work to ensure grease long history of smart water. Acquisition continues olsen is now director of transportation and operations for hawks. Engineers a company specializing in consultation and engineering services. The city of greeley is one of the best cities in colorado olsen said it is released. We have a rich environment and diverse culture that has been cultivated through years of hard work and community development is crucial to the city of greeley has strong leadership who can pave the way to a bright future keeping old enrich traditions alive or welcoming in a new growing greeley So i mean all the right thing said in that news release right and that's the easy one to get through everything. Sounds great when you're when you're just putting together a news release to say hey. Greeley gays are awesome. Here my biggest concerns and it's just like ask ten people in the community what their biggest concerns are like. Yeah that's about right traffic sucks. Let's talk about traffic. And hopefully he does have the answers for some of this hopefully he does but Johnny carson making their run. They're well county sheriff's office. Operation reset strives to clear. Low level warrants. This is a little bizarre. 'cause we heard this point morgan. Mackenzie outgrew the tribune. But we heard. Okay sheriff steve rooms last year. Talk.

"This is morning. In northern Colorado's voice, Thirteen ten KFI K. Well those riots away. They're not riots. They're just protests. You're right, but as the unrest and the breakdown of Civility anti-aids, society and Law and order continues to break down in Portland. You gotTa love this okay. You've got speaker Nancy Pelosi coming out and saying Oh, no, it's! It's not a riot. It's not a breakdown of society. It's nothing more than a graffiti problem. Yes, Speaker Pelosi actually said what they have in Portland is not a failure to communicate, though they have a graffiti problem, I think she has a perception problem myself because it is nothing more than mob rule. Rule and those calls across the nation continue to fund and this band police departments once again across the nation, and begs the question without law enforcement. We would look like chop or chess, or whatever the heck it's called, but those calls are not coming from the Greeley city. Council joined this morning a by Greeley Mayor John Gates. Happy Monday mayor gates. Happy Monday to you Kale you know to your point. I've seen graffiti problems and I think that's just a little more than graffiti problem. They've got on their hands and Portland. Absolutely unbelievable, it is unbelievable and it's. It's very disturbing that the left some of the more progressive members of the left I don't want to just conveniently kitchen sink here is taking that approach just basically kind of Pooh poohing the breakdown of law and order in major cities across the country, but I loved the column that you and the city council penned in Greeley trip, saying essentially we are committed to protecting every resident and supporting our police. That's important. Absolutely, there's we. We worked on that for several days and. felt pretty strongly about it in and ended up. Putting out a piece that was authored by all of city council just to make it real clear that we won't be defunding police in Greeley. Colorado and we support them. And we If there's any doubt folks should read that statement. As a former member of law enforcement yourself. What is your take on what I refer to as all the insanity here when it comes to how police are being literally and figuratively attacked and the resulting impact that's having on retention on recruitment on morale. I it's huge and I. Frankly don't think we've seen anything yet. With regard to probably good folks waiting enforcement analogy that I've used of course to to the to the folks that are organizing these protests myself in that car completely. Incredible because we used to be on for officers so I guess my word Rings Pretty Hollow. In that regard, but the point I tried to make a couple of times is that? Yeah. There are bad police officers. There are bad radio announcer there. There are bad there's there's bad in every profession. It's human nature in my experience with really police. only in the twenty five plus years I worked there, but since I've retired is They are really good about getting rid of bad apples The the option in Minneapolis that started this Whole thing you had eighteen or nineteen write ups and and while I. Don't know what those right I don't really care. You know that wouldn't happen around here so I think that law enforcement is much maligned. They're being painted by. the actions of others and. It's it's a nationwide trend and. I just think it's too bad because they shouldn't be mind. You know the the talks of defunding polices. it used to make me mad now. It's comical like seriously folks. were, where would we be without law enforcement, not only that, but where would we be without fully funded law enforcement you know New York City's cut a billion, and nobody could convince me. There's not a quarter between that cut and the massive increase, the crime specifically shooting. They're having right now, so you know. Stop the nonsense on. That would be my my comment. Go ahead peacefully protest, but Stopped nonsense. Well. It's surreal as a so many things are in a time of covid nineteen th, but this is i. mean this takes the cake that we're even having this conversation. I can't believe the words are even coming out of my mouth, but I wanted to ask you this. Agree Evans held back the blue rallies last week. You were present at Wednesday's Greeley rally. What are you hearing throughout the community? Well I think that. Our Community of communities in Greeley Evans of by and large still strongly support the police of you know there are some that don't as I was out has kind of triple book, so I was only out there thirty forty five minutes the other day, but it got a lot of cars coming by honking their support. For. Law Enforcement in. And you get you know others that. Way perhaps didn't use all their fingers. So there's you know there's a there's a vaccine people with. Whether it be local or or elsewhere that don't support the voice but I think we're still in a community and experience that when I was in wash forcement, and experienced it now that they were still largely supportive. Can for community no doubt about that? I see what you did there. Mary Gates waving, not using all their finger essentially saying you're still number one. One Way to look at. Eight I, always try to look at the glass half full. All right. Let's talk a little bit about a governor Jerry Boyle is of course issuing that mandate that unenforceable by his own admission mandate flip-flopping on his stance. That mask mandate statewide went into effect on Friday. How is the community how our businesses dealing with this? You know I think most businesses have their businesses appropriately signed. I've heard some stories that most most businesses are enforcing telling people they can't come in. Summer, not enforcing it at all some Mari. Requiring that somebody will enter a store with a mask, and then they're allowed to take it off, so the correspondences I've received have been. kind of all over the map both extremes a lot of. you know that really needs to support the executive order to the extent that you send enforcement out when what is being violated, and then there's a whole faction of others that. You know government can't make all decisions for us in violating our civil liberties so Has. kind of gone over like I thought it would I I made some statements that. And I I I will support the governor's executive order GONNA mask, but at City Council tomorrow night, but it. It is going to be hard to enforce and A few folks took me to task for that, but I think I'm just calling like it is and We don't we don't have nor do I. Think any community says the ability to go on for Sonata rubbing mask patrol, so are the biggest concern that we have with regard to noncompliance with mass that ends right there and these things don't Develop into full-fledged fights or disturbances that would accomplish nothing, and then some other communities law enforcement are having to get involved though so. You know I personally probably don't.

"I can say. I don't know much about in on the surface. It doesn't sound like a terrific idea. But we need reform. We need for police officers to serve, and I'm not saying all police officers are bad i. know some really good and I know there are hundreds of millions of really good law enforcement officers out there. But we need good cops call out the activities of bad cops, and there needs to be reformed, so that can happen, and you know if there's defunding, you know. I think perhaps some defunding that encourages you know maybe weapons, or or whatever that encourages or allows these violent acts stick to to happen, and perhaps reallocate those funds to sensitivity, training, race, training, or whatever it is to make sure that we are back where the intent of a police. Officer when they started their job, you know to protect and serve to make sure that we're back at a place where they're protecting and serving everybody. No matter your race. No matter your color, no matter who you are. Six forty five down thirteen ten KFI, thirteen ten KFI K. A. dot com stacy singer guy is President Rhonda Sali's a Vice President of the Latino Coalition of Weld County Rhonda Listen I'm interested in your thoughts on this this question as well. I think that i. we really do have to really look at the possibility of demanding and let me tell you why, because if you go stoically of what police departments we're brought together and what we see, those are two different things happening I mean if you look what happened back in New York. You had all these police officers. An elderly man is down and it looked. Looked like he got pushed by police officers. We have one police officer trying to help who pulled away and all these police officers continue walking by. Is that really what police department they're supposed to be? And there's an environment that happens that makes it almost nearly impossible for those good cops to call out bad cops and I know here in Greeley when I was doing the. The Police Department Citizens Academy, we toured the brand new police department, and when I went into the common area. Where they would you know, meet for like food and stuff on the billboard. There was actually a sheet on there that talked about how much illegal immigrants cost this country. Now I was concerned with that and I brought that up at the time because I don't want police officers going out into our community with that mentality, they need to protect and serve all community members, and that kind of stuff is not welcomed at all. Especially, since we as community members paid for that, start new station, so I think there is a systematic situation. Going on that needs to be evaluated, turned upside down and done differently. We need to make it more acceptable for good cops to call out bad cops. COPS and those bad Cox cannot be transferred from one police department to another police department. Their records are hidden, and that's not good for any community. You don't want that Koch. You don't want to invite that, so we have to demand that those records be open and that we're hiring good cops, so this whole system needs to be revamped. We need to really take a good look at it and have serious conversations as community members of what we want. The role of police officer officers Steven be in our community. Around wanted to ask you before I. Let you go this morning and certainly do appreciate your taking the time along with Stacey. Sooner Got President Ron. Sali's vice president. Latino Coalition of Weld County Kristen. Zeta Greeley City Council member. had posted on social media relative to the George, Floyd carrying and the protests that were taking place across the country that sadly some turn violent, not honoring in my very humble opinion, the memory of George Floyd but kristen's Zeta coming under fire for. A posting. Making references to black on black violence She's been threatened There have been demands for her resignation Where does the Latino Coalition of Weld County fall on this. So when her comments, I came out obviously, they were a little alarming. We had been contacted by numerous community. Members concerned with this view and you know, so we kind of. saw what the city of Greeley put out. which was you know really helpful? They actually admitted that racism exists which is the start of the conversation of what we need to have happened in our community. What was disappointing about Kristen's comment is that she said that there were they were nothing but senseless violence, destruction and chaos. Well those things have brought forth police reform, and even here. In Colorado we have bipartisan support so for me. Why wait a minute the chaos and the destruction of? Innocent, business owners business is that as what brought about reform or the calls for reform or the peaceful aspect of the protests. I think you have to look at it all I mean when I saw what happened to George Floyd, what happened to me inside? And what I felt inside was literally what I watched. It happen on my TV that feeling of rawness and just so much frustration and so much anger I. Get it and for me the rioting and looting. I mean were putting those words on this situation, but we've had that kind of destruction in our community. Before we had it here in Greeley in two thousand six when the rate happened to me, that is violent, rioting and looting of what they did. Did to our to our families to our children and to our community, so we've seen this over and over again in our country. That's how this country actually started, but it's interesting. Who points out and how we view that I mean even the two thousand eight housing crisis to me. That's rioting and looting. People lost their retirement. People lost their homes so when you talked about destruction when you talk about violence when you talk about chaos I can give you lots of examples in our history of when those things have happened, and a lot of those things are actually celebrated and so. It's unfortunate that we have to get to this point that we didn't listen to Colin Kaepernick that we haven't listened to local community members wanting to talk about racism. It is unfortunate that it has to get to this point, but here we are now, and she has the opportunity to say okay. I'm going to that happened. It didn't happen here and our community needs to. To have this discussion and that's what my goal is going to be I. Do you want us to be a better community for my family? Just like she does, but that means that we have to be really really honest, and we have to have some compassion like she talked about, but we didn't see that in her remarks. Even her remarks were like perhaps. Sensitive, and well, and she did make an effort I mean it's up on the Greeley City Council website her response to responded on Facebook but she did clarified those remarks to some extent. Stacey in the time that we have left anything that you would like to add. Yes, I do WANNA. Make your statement. You know. Go when I served my time on council. I strive to be there and I strayed, serve all people. That was my duty. I'm now the president of a Latino Cal Coalition Well County Armenian, is to make sure that that same representation for people of Color Equal, and it's real. It is not our responsibility, nor is in our interest to give a patch to any position of power or elected or not, when they make hurtful and by statements that harm people of Color..

"On the other side. We'll talk with Torque over news sports director right here at thirteen ten. Kfi BEST UNC bears target game coverage on thirteen ten KFI K. Burn no cone on this fine Wednesday morning couple of flyovers going on like we talked about with Kevin Lionel. If you're if you're an airplane I watched the first one on a Sunday. They were a little delayed. It was a little overcast. And I'll be honest and have the best viewing spot but It was still fun to watch him. Fly over for for that time but again a couple of flyovers happening today so you can check that out sounding like a right around noon little before noon for Greeley For a fly over today. So maybe when you're out on your lunch break if you're at work or if you're at home step out there and and see that sunshine and take a look at some of these airplanes okay joining me now. On hotline our news and Sports Director here at thirteen ten K of K is troy covert ill and try. Let's start off with some good news this morning. I heard a report airing earlier today on. Kfi K. up only six hundred and fifty hospitalizations because of cove in nineteen in the state. Right now Which is the lowest since I believe was it April? It is and one of the notes that can be tied to that. Is that the Greeley City Council learned last night that as of right now combined between North Colorado Medical Center and you see health. The two hospitals in Greeley number of cases are down to forty stations twenty-five at NC EMC. Fifteen across the street. From where I sit right now. That's very very positive. News in this front and I believe heard also the only the total number of cases at eighteen thousand right now at the moment in Colorado so positive news on that front trae it is. It is and it again. Continues to show how the effects of the shutdown and trying to push things to farther potentially into the future more importantly to keep people from being out and in situations where they could contract. The virus has worked to a point. Now we will see here as things develop again just what redeveloping or doesn't develop maybe going forward well and that's and that's and that's exactly right. I mean everyone's kind of anticipating that there could be a little bit of a flare up but the whole idea. That order was to not overwhelm the hospitals law. It sounds like we've done that. And then some and troy things starting to roll off here of course in Weld County Larimer County and did see That the City Health Department officials over in Labor County and Fort Collins Taken a little bit of heat for that mask requirement they county health officials Tom Gonzales getting into a conversation with Steve Johnson who we mentioned yesterday as being one of the advisory board members for the Coordination Panel that the governor has put together. Johnson was a bit upset in discussing with With the county commissioners yesterday and specifically Tomkins Allah with the County Department of Public Health and environment. The fact that restaurants are not getting the opportunity to reopen and really feels that they should be and that they've been singled out in this situation. Unfortunately and as I put it earlier in my conversation with restaurants are social business a very social business and. I don't know how you can operate at your norm in the midst of what we're going through right now and I think that's probably why you see so much Leary tentativeness about a reopening restaurants at at at a point coming up a part of it right now though too I think is also just trying to wait and watch and see what does occur with other places where some of the restaurants are beginning to reopen right tricky situation for sure and and what is so tough and I did hear I did catch us with your conversation with Gail. Yays both agreed on this very difficult to determine for some of these operating on such such razor thin margins when they're opening at twenty five fifty even seventy five percent capacity whether that's going to be more profitable or the if they can swing it rather than just staying close so a very tricky situation for sure. It's going to be interesting to see how that pans out would have to imagine at some point. You know if this keeps getting pushed off to. We looked at We talked about June. Possibly being another reexamination date at a certain point. I would imagine that we're going to have to start to see. Some people start to test the waters with extreme precautions from the cooking staff from the waiters and from from the patrons of restaurants as well what have to imagine. Because you know the restaurant. Industry can't take that sort of long layoff as their in right now. That is absolutely correct. One of the things to watch is how Texas is handling it right now with their situation. They have closed or have allowed restaurants that were closed that are not specifically bars in what this comes down to is restaurants that have fifty one percent of their margin. Coming in that is not alcohol. Related are being allowed to reopen those who fall under that say sell more alcohol than they do food are not being allowed to re-open it's an intriguing approach. What's the logic behind that troy because the logic is that With alcohol involved you tend to stay longer at the restaurant. You tend to socialize more and increase the potential of being in the building more and thus contracting the virus easier because you're sitting for a longer period of time Interesting that that again seems like a subset of that old phrase that we've been using picking winners and losers so that's definitely an interesting approach talking with Troy Coverdale News and sports director toilets switch gears a little bit here The Weld County frontline workers getting some help here as some P P coming in there's been a number of donations that have gone on but we see another big donation that has come in Weld County purchasing forty seven. Make that to four hundred. Seventy seven thousand dollars worth of P. P. E. for law enforcement fire personnel emergency medical tax and for the health care facilities the county working to get That all in place as this continues really In terms of having to meet challenges that are put forth by this virus and the first responders being on the front lines week. You know one of the things that stands out going back to some of the conversations from the healthcare facilities and some of what they have put up with. I know that sunrise community health talked. About how many numbers of cases that they are seeing just in their offices Each week and how many people are having to then send over to the hospital now? This is a couple of weeks old but When you start to talk about adding to send people to the hospital you're also talking about ambulances and you know this isn't going to be a A situation where this goes away for any of the line responders anytime soon. The need for the masks and other P. P. A. is going to continue to be sizeable toilets give ourselves a break from Cova nineteen talk. Show we let's talk about a story that broke a couple of days ago. Just wanted to see if there's any updates About the the FBI. Investigation regarding the man with the pipe bombs in loved one. That was arrested. Bradley Bunn was is going to face charges at the federal level for possession of those and it turns out at least. According to the affidavit that was filed in court. The intent for those bombs was in case the FBI or other law enforcement showed up at his place. He actually was intending to have those if he knew he was in trouble. And they beat him to The Punch. And so yeah yeah. I think that the expectation was potentially after the after the protest at the Capitol. There might be something there that would prompt them to want to approach him and and he was going to be prepared at his home. That way again. That is that. Is what the affidavit states really wasn't tied to the protest at all in the grand scheme just that You know he was making the pitch for people to take weapons to the protest and had been posting a lot of increasingly troubling items on social media. Reiterating once again. If you're going to post it on social media be forewarned. It's not secure people. People out young people will find out and and it will go somewhere and in this case the FBI got ahead of him very quickly and ensured that those pipebombs weren't going to be utilized for anything. Well very good news on that front that the FBI able to get their first troy. Let's shift gear one quick one last time for you here on top of the news and Sports Director of course you're the voice of the UNC bears talking with Kevin Lionel about recruiting. And how that's going on the state of Colorado the whole in college football three new coaches and and of course Ed McCaffrey. One of those here. Unc How is the recruiting process? Ben For Freddie Mac and the bears With this social distancing and with everything going on one of the things that has been striking is that there have been a number of players that are coming in off of the transfer portal and that has been a little more than what we have seen in a handful of years. And so I think that that's going to be one story line as we move towards the potential of a new season coming up that you will see a handful of new faces that are veteran faces coming into the program to try and build a roster for this coming season one of the flaws about all of this is not even so much the recruiting at this point. But you're talking about the just trying to get workouts in. And how do you go about your strength training and the like and we get towards the point where Fall practices are two began. Unc is canceled events on campus through July thirty first. So what does that do for practices because that would cross over a few days worth of Of Fall drills in preparation for the upcoming schedule. So that's going to be a matter to watch as we get deeper into things here and start talking about the football season. Yeah trying times A lot of people having to be innovative and it means college football as well. Troy appreciate your time as always will catch up with you tomorrow. Thanks thanks. That's Troy Coverdale News and sports director here at KFI K. Appreciate his time as always and You know what I'm I'm really happy that we're able to start to talk about some other things other than just Cova. Nineteen and again made the announcement yesterday. But we're going to be making that time switch. Starting Monday will be your drive time hour from four to five they They are trusting us with that. I don't know I think it's Ryan that they're trusting with this about four to five on Monday. We'll be starting with it. We're GONNA continue this Program and and really pass on great information from a Lotta great guests In and get the word out there for a lot of northern Colorado people and of course we couldn't do this without great sponsors Jeanine Crop Insurance Jeanine Insurance Janine Freeman Terry Garage..

"I told you about the trajectory. We've got to make sure that this is a well. Thought-out opening their businesses opening today. But I will say that that if they are following a best practices and that means masks gloves and other things. And that's how we're going to get out of this mess it's it's. It's a mess when I liked it actually chime in on that to you and I appreciate. I appreciate the you know. The commissioner's really wanting to help our small businesses. We know that they're suffering and our our hearts definitely go out to them. That concern is that when they should have closed J. B. S. As a you know a well county health department they should have closed so that is one business that they should have closed and instead of allowing the state to finally say no. This is so out of control. You guys better do something partner up and get this under control that was under the pre Previ- of you know well county commissioners and the other part of this is perception is reality. If we don't as leaders make sure that our community members understand that this is a serious situation. Then they're not gonNA take it serious when we open golf courses. That's sending the message. That is just everyday as usual when the county commissioners come out saying you know. Everybody should go ahead and open. We didn't close you. Go ahead and open. That sends a message and our numbers are just not supportive of our leaders giving out messages like that. We are not there. We go to grocery stores and less than fifty percent of the people in the stores are wearing ask. We should be going in there. Protecting those workers that are being on the front line by entering the store with a mask. Well isn't it incumbent upon us? Though to exercise personal responsibility in making those decisions I agree with that again though as leaders of this county with the numbers that we have this is. I mean. We're a hotspot. This is a red flag waving in the wind. When are all the officials going to say? You know what this is serious. We understand that you need to take your own personal decisions. There are GONNA be businesses that will not let you will not allow you in without a mask. We just opened up a small business where I work. We just reopened. We were closed for over a month. And that's that's on the door. If you don't wear a mask you can't come in and we understand there's going to be people upset but we have got to protect our employees along with protecting who comes in that door. That is our responsibility. And I don't think people really understand how serious this is. It's not just affecting your lungs. We're starting to see Information about it affecting the brain the kidney hearts and so this is a lot bigger than that and so I don't think people really understand how serious this is and then when you talk about the many different languages we have in Weld County. Is this information being sent out from the county from the city and all of those different languages? What are we doing to make sure that all community members understand and know how serious this is and what those practices are. I will say this though as a golfer that is one of the most socially distant sports there ever was always has been socially distant and I think a number of the golf courses of course came out with a number of restrictions. Saying you know if you'RE GONNA have part it's going to be self. Serve One person in a card maintain social distance which you gotta do anyway because people are swinging golf clubs. But that's neither here nor there. Eight nine thousand nine hundred thirteen ten K. K. Thirteen ten KFI K. A. dot com so by Stacey Sinica former Greeley city council member president of Latino Coalition of Webb County along with Rhonda Silin Vice President of the Latino Collision Coalition of Weld County. Now Stacy I think it was you or maybe it was you Rhonda Since we are socially distancing this morning can't see but you were talking about partnerships and the Latino Coalition of Weld County has entered a partnership with the state. Is that correct W- I'm not sure we we support their guidelines. But we're not hurting her super nine apartment we've been in contact with them and making sure that they understand what's going in our community and making sure that we're paying attention to what information they're getting from the federal level. Is there something different that we need to be doing as a county? Or you know Greeley or the city of Evans or are there other instructions that we need to be making sure that people know in our community. So we're just making sure that we're on top of guidelines and new information. That's going out. There's no partnership or anything. We're just in partner with local community. Post would have been the better word there. Yes all right. All of us are are collaborating with the state health department. Definitely so important. I certainly appreciate your taking the time. "He tried thanks for setting the covert nineteen playlist from a friend of yours. I cannot take the credit there because that definitely was my friend. Joe Montgomery's Hard work and a fellow radio guy from way. Back and In Joe did a stellar job putting together that list. Oh absolutely the minute. I saw that I emailed back and said bumpers. I right from bumpers to numbers. Let's move to numbers. As you've got health officials saying that we might be seeing a plateau and the spread of Kobe. Nineteen across the state. Yeah Denver Seven reporting that the Department of Public Health and Environment State epidemiologist said these next couple of days really are going to be interesting to watch because they could alter a little bit Where that stay at home order maybe moves in terms of Some of the things to be allowed to reopen maybe a day or two earlier than what the arrest of the order would allow as of yesterday. Afternoon fifteen hundred fifty six hospitalizations in the state just under eight thousand cases so already know this morning we've moved probably past that Martin Three hundred twenty nine deaths Statewide to this point gail. I know you noted that there were two more Deva's in Weld County reported yesterday as the county closes in on nine hundred cases. Eight hundred eighty four of the number in Weld County at this point but You know we have when you look at what the modeling is showing State health officials feel very positive that Things have gone well enough that that April Twenty. Six date looks good for Being able to allow for folks to be able to. If you will reopen the economy is the president keep putting it as exactly exactly particularly was talking with Greeley Mayor John Gates this morning talking about some moves We could call it. P P P light some grants that Working with a number of other agencies really city council making available to small business owners and certainly Something just so desperately needed these days so once again the call goes out support local business wherever you can try to move on to you. We were talking a little bit about the fact that we've got some numbers talking about recovery and we might be able to quantify to some extent. I mean I know it's a small sample but it's a start right but quantified to some extent The number of recovery's From Cova Nineteen in Colorado. You see health yesterday. Releasing the details That they have at least in terms of those who have been released after suffering from Kobe. Nineteen three hundred seventy And that is for their entire system. Statewide one hundred twenty of those coming from the northern Colorado facilities including Longmont And so you you're seeing that that Trend improves a little bit there. Too in terms of Being able to Get INFORMATION OUT In terms of the positive outcomes that we're looking at and Uc health with offering up those numbers giving us a bit of a positive glimpse into what is going on at those hospitals. Interestingly the really city council was told last night that the hospital here in Greeley UC Health Hospital With six patients on ventilators. They're actually looking to gain more ventilators that puts them right now. Sure of just short of the nine that they have on hand but NC MC Looking at Looking at sixty two total ventilators twenty seven patients on those ventilators so they're not In in danger of going past their equipment on hand as of right now but the UCLA hospital Is potentially dealing with a shortage. Coming up yeah and something. Certainly that needs to be taken into consideration this as you have Greeley City Council also Making moves in order to have those temporary facilities to house Those not only those who are homeless but others that are in transition throughout the covert nineteen outbreak. Interestingly the discussion about That last night going towards apartments tied to good Samaritan. The bonnabel complex the Meghan Greeley Good Samaritan announced yesterday that they have nine active cases on their campus six residents and three employees that are suffering from the virus The timing got my attention. definitely an odd time but then is going to be an interesting watch going forward. How the city and the county worked together with bond l. with this Apartment Complex They've got space for thirty of those who are hopefully getting better but are not among the worst. It's basically an isolation area for those who Who are suffering from corona virus rather than Having them intermingling with the Shelters That are in place currently out at island. Grove makes all the sense in the world for let you go very quickly interesting during the conversation with a Grill Mayor John Gates. He's taken some heat over the fact that J. B. S. which again the company announced his closed Through April twenty seven after being ordered to close by the weld and state health departments so that they can do the necessary disinfecting cleaning throughout the plan but interesting You have a job swift ponying up not an inconsiderable amount of money in terms of helping with the local P P P program and Mary Gates take some heat over that because there are some that believe that well that might give J B s swift In Greeley the meat packing. Plant some wiggle room. And I'm like no one has nothing to do with the other. Take the money and run exactly. You know if if you want to look at it as wiggle room you have to remember who all is overseeing the matter with J B S and. It's not the Mayor. He's not going to be the one to officially be signing off and especially now that you have The involvement of the National Corona Virus Task Force being overseen by Vp pens and. You've got the state involved as well as well counties count department that's GonNa all fall under the health folks not under mayor. John Gates's purview. Gps Open and that was the point. He made abundantly clear..

"Isolated. The city doesn't have any jurisdiction over Jay BS. That's an issue of the Health Department or the governor and sent away that issue has been monitored by the state and the local health department for quite some time and I happen to think that resolution of closing for a couple of weeks. This is really much needed to get those folk sealed up determine how many you're sick and you have a really clean plant to give them a chance to to deep clean at some so I I think that that was the right thing for not only J. B. S. But for care of their employees for the community. Certainly because you know once again. It's kind of the nature of the meat packing industry beast for lack of a better term that you have employees there and they are working elbow to elbow or shoulder to shoulder and unfortunately it's kind of like a well. County Sheriff Steve Rings The Colorado going after him saying that he didn't do enough in advance of the pandemic in his jails. But unfortunately sometimes you need to look at the reality of the situation and neither of these are built in an expansive way. They're built for efficiency. I watched with amazement. Sheriff rings come under attack and he's running to jail for crying out loud. They're all but that they can't Some not sure. Freeze that some as you know in our nation has gone to releasing nonviolent quote unquote criminals to the community. And that's an important caveat right there because you've got a Los Angeles warning about a an outbreak of crime because of the prisoners that are quote nonviolent. That have been released. I think you've made draws drug distinction about whatnot. Violent is and this isn't a person who's written that checks or is it something entirely different and I would just a lot of cases it's something entirely different and that's a shame. It's really truly is very troubling times that we were working through but certainly appreciate the moves That the Greeley City Council made to provide much needed help and assistance. I know you've got another meeting coming up but as always appreciate your time. And what would you say to us at this point in time? I would say that it's tough. We knew it was. GonNa be tough. There are people scared. There are people angry. There are people anxious. But you know we're in a week four or five now and really is shown a strong sense of resiliency. And we're GONNA get through this. We're getting closer to the finish line but do what you need to do to get us to the finish line so we can return. Whatever normal was. We'll we'll be okay. Well said Greeley Mayor John Gates. Thanks as always for your time and perspective certainly appreciate it. Pleasure closing in on seven twenty two now thirteen ten Kfi K. A. "Welcome to the show. Hope you're doing well morning. Gail I'm on my back deck with a cup of coffee talking to you. So it's a great way to start the morning John. That's lovely. I appreciate that. Yeah I have to figure out a way to set up my equipment back so I can broadcast from the backwards because I'm broadcasting from home so it is a little chilling here but it's beautiful out here and it's probably just good to be outside right. You know it really is. I said through all this that I have great empathy for those that work from home. They love it some of them do but it's it's terrible experience. I sit buying a computer for eight ten hours. A day and I'm really fortunate that I have a job. I think about that all the time and that I still employed but I sure would like to be back in the workplace. Yeah definitely because yeah working from home a very isolating experience. It's one that everyone that hasn't done it. I mean I've worked from home for the past ten or eleven years on my other job and it is. It can get very very lonely as you're kind of the jack-of-all-trades and you have very little interaction. You know maybe emails or texts or whatever the case may be but yeah be careful what you wish for along those lines. Yeah fortunate to be employed particularly in time of cove in nineteen along those lines Greeley City Council approved a two hundred and fifty thousand dollars in short-term financial relief for businesses gave us the back story there. So we've been working on this for a week to ten days with the really chambers city of Evans and the crux behind the program really is that we're keenly aware that ought are small businesses. Need US and frankly we need them and we are hoping to utilize these funds which there will be a match coming from Private industry to give our local businesses a little extra incentive to keep things going and this is not obviously emplois of care act or the or the paycheck protection program but sometimes so we just want to benefit our communities. We're in or in a position to be able to do it and I feel great that we did it and we want to get this and kicked off probably as early as tomorrow maybe Friday with an application process and then there's a committee in place that will vet these applications and Anticipate that these stunts will be paid out fairly quickly now interesting. We're piece by Cuyler. Mead out of the Greeley Tribune This fund will be managed by the Greeley Chamber of Commerce Foundation Board funds are matching funds creating a total of five hundred thousand dollar fund with fundraising efforts on the other side. Yes and I actually think that fundraising could go a little bit higher. But I think that that would be the waste amount that will be available to our businesses and the city is is prepared to provide more necessary. What we wanted to do now is Get a chunk of money out there. Quarter of a million dollars. So it's a good chunk of money and then left the public sector. Take over and We we would would have some more to commit at a later time Frankly we have Look at our budget with the city to and I just read a story this morning where Boulder City. A boater anticipates at twenty eight million dollar deficit ours won't be that high but clearly We're GONNA have issues just like every municipality moving on when you cut out The largest percentage of sales tax lodging tax in the like that those things are essentially what puts together our budget. So we're we have great reserve. We feel good about that. Borst we still want to be very careful moving forward absolutely and again our hearts go out to a small business owners everywhere..

"City Council heard breakdown of where patients with Gobert nineteen actually are and also talked about concerns over shelters because of the extended stay at home order joined by Thirteen ten KFI KFI news. Director Troy Coverdale. He tried good morning. Good morning how are you? I'm great this morning and you. I can't complain up and nobody did you. Get out and see the pink. Moon doesn't look pink to me that last night. No well you have another chance tonight. If you care to indulge in the Superman so take us through that to Greeley City Council meeting. Well let's start first with the The shelter aspect of this as the city council last night discussed number of items related to the Related to the spread of Corona virus. And one of the things that has taken place of course Through the early part of this was that the city began operating shelter at At Island Grove in the hopes of being able to keep the virus from spreading further among the homeless population with the extension of the stay at home order though the operators of show of those shelters United Way and Catholic charities Might find themselves having to close low shelters before the stay at home order comes to its completion as the contract reportedly makes it You're rep goes through the end of April or through April eighteenth. Excuse me goes through April eighteenth and so that poses a bit of a funding issue going forward a bit of Gabba particularly since Governor pulls extended that stay at home order to April twenty. Six you're looking at eight days in there the difference and already of course looking also at in both the United Way and Catholic charities to organizations you know that that rely completely on donations. And so it's going to be interesting to see how the city and how locally we answer those questions Four those who are less fortunate in the area that Dealing with The potential spread and and trying to keep them from catching up to the spread. You know the same issue of course raising its head in Denver where they're going to utilize with the National Western Complex to house some of the homeless in an effort to try and stem the corona virus spread among that population. And you know. We talked about this on several occasions. Troy Stay at home order. That's all well and good unless you don't have a home and you talk about Of the most vulnerable populations in terms of exposure to Cova nineteen among us and that is the homeless population. You're right and the way that our shelters have been designed to over the years it's been about getting as many people inside as possible and that doesn't lend itself well to what we're seeing now with corona virus and so the.
