"We appreciate you drop it on by now coming up here on Sunday. Gesture trying to recover after that terrible end of the game against the Raiders last weekend, while the Seahawks try to rebound against the Jets after that, lost to the Giants at home. Joining us on the show. He'll be on the sidelines for the game alongside Greg Gumbel and Rich Gannon for the NFL on CBS. Jay Feely joining us this morning, Jay Good morning. How you doing? I'm good dear. How about you buddy to a great man Appreciate you joining us and what a crazy end of that game by the Jets last week. Greg Williams calls that defense ultimately gets fired the next day. What do you think was the reasoning behind Greg Williams going on that type of blitz and leaving no help over the top for his young corner. Well, if you know, great Williams, and you spent time with them. You've done production meetings with him. It didn't really surprise you. I mean, that's to Greg Williams is you go back. You look at his history and you look at what he's done in those situations before he likes to bring pressure. He was, in fact, the quarterback. And was that in egregious mistake? It certainly was, And obviously it cost him his job. But, you know, he's brought 56 man pressures before many times in those situations and a lot of times they get home and you don't allow that past to get off. You know the fact that he had basically eight men in the box. He had seven men come in. You had another guy in the box. And you have only three defenders. Fact that was I think it was so egregious and stuck out to everybody so much. What about in the huddle when calls come in, and guys go? Oh, no, We can't go into this defense. We can't do this place. Just not gonna work. Does that happen often? Or is their usual implicit trust in the call's coming from the coordinators? I think that a good team there's trust. It goes both ways. Right? The you should be able to trust the coaches and trust the call. But if you believe in your players and you have you have built into them the understanding of if you're on defense, offensive football, what teams they're trying to do. You have to trust those players as well having incident out in the field. You know, And so you know, they see something that they know isn't right. Azad coordinator. I would trust my player to make the call to make the changes to give them information. It's no different than a quarterback walking up the line of scrimmage. He knows that this run plays it gonna work because of the front that the defense You know is showing. Why are you going to continue to run that into a bad bad front? Why are you going to continue to run a bad play? When you know it's not right. Give your quarterback him the tools to change that play and get you in the right place. You know, that's what good offenses do. And that's what you know with the veteran quarterback. You trust him to do that. I think you've got to do the same thing defensively and, you know, I think coaches like have control. They like to try to impact the game. They do a lot of studying throughout the week and they want to go out there and they want to make the best call. But the same time you have to be able to trust your players that will you get out in the field. If they see something isn't right. They should be able to make the necessary changes and to get you in the right right call and the right position and try and make the red flag. Jay Feely's Joining us from the NFL on CBS will be on the sidelines is the Seahawks take on the Jets? Seahawks with a perplexing lost last week at home to a backup and Colt McCoy in the Giants. And frankly, the big thing was Russell Wilson. The offense could never get on track. What did the Giants defense do last week that other teams have been unable to toe hold down Russell Wilson. Why? It certainly was surprising. That result certainly was. I think Judge judge in his staff pentagram. They've done an excellent job of creating Infusion for quarterbacks, and it's not easy to confuse a veteran guy like Russell Wilson has seen a lot, you know, and his time and usually knows the answer for what you're trying to do. But they're the most complicated defense in the NFL. You know, they give you so many different looks. They don't allow quarterback priest not to know exactly what you're doing. There's a lot of similarities between You know what Miami is doing? And what the Giants of doing an obviously Patrick very much doubt in Miami last year and came up there and he's doing a good job with this giant defense. You know, they're gonna have to play what? I think they got three tough games. You look at the schedule between the Giants in Washington. I think the Giants have the tougher schedule, you know, in the next four weeks of the season Washington has to play see OG as well next week, but they got the 40 Niners, the Panthers and egos little easier than the giant schedule, you know, so the Giants are gonna have to play. Well, you know if they're gonna want to try to make a run here and get into the playoffs and But there was a huge win for them, and I think they're going up against a cardinal seen this week that's struggling on that. Teams have had answers for this Cardinals offense for this. It's a hybrid. I would say air raid offense that cooking Barry's running and for Kyla Marine what he's trying to do. Let him outside the process. Don't want to run on. You. Don't let him scramble, make those secondary plays, keep them in the pocket and making beat you throwing the ball. So glad you brought up the Cardinals because I wanted to delve into the Cardinals. They were so explosive it exciting early the season last two weeks, they've really fallen on hard times. Especially offensively. How does that happen? What happens in film room and tape sessions with defensive coordinators? As leagues and as opposing coaches have more information and film on something that was so effective. Well, you look at the cards. I live out here in Arizona. So you know, I see them a lot, and I hear about them a lot. And, um, it was really interesting to me. When Cliff Kingsbury got hired last year he comes in and they draft calamari and okay, we're going all in. This air raid and we're gonna bring that here and you know, early on they were. They were in 10 personnel. So one running back no tight ends more than anybody else in the league and last year that wasn't working through the first four games, so they switched and they change. They started implementing tight end more than change your blocking schemes and I got a little bit better in the second half of season and had a lot of like you talked about a lot of momentum. The first half of the season playing well, people out here we're talking about Tyler Murders Treaty being the N V P conversation. Well, then now you look at the last five years. They've lost for the last five games were not for the hell Mary against built. They better lost five games in a row right now, eh? So it's been tough, but I think what you're seeing is if you offensively The teams know what you're going to do..

"Are we going to see any in season changes? Will it wait till the very end of the season so they could get a jump on hiring the next coach from outside the organization? How do you think it's gonna play? Well. Last year, everybody thought Arthur Blank was going to move on to Dan Quinn and they were one midway through the year. I didn't do it and the finishing strong now I don't know that any kind of a strong finish is going to matter for the pelicans all my shit and put them in the playoffs. I think we've gone regardless. But Arthur Blank is showing a lot of restraint that passed. I think they will play out the season with Quinn. Unless this thing spirals department always seven on a something like that. With the Jets. If they fire out engaged after the all state had against Denver with on break ahead of him. I don't know that Gates is going anywhere with this is Oi! Second year much feels sure for jazz bands like 22nd year. I don't He goes anywhere, at least until the Bible thereby we can we go oven? Maybe I want to make a change, cause you're right. The pandemic does matter, Right? You're not gonna bring anybody on the outside. It's always going to be the inn from which typically is anyway, Frances, but but the pandemic complicates matters even further. You know that, just maybe to go to Great Williams, although after showing jets out on Thursday night, I think that he hasn't had to do that. I think most of these guys, it's probably going to be after the season, a patrician another one I put in the same boat. They have new ownership. I would think he may be the first one to go because of that. But it's It's shaping up to be a long year. For teams like Atlanta and the Jets Alliance so forth, understood. In one last question, staying into pandemic Lane had some issues this week had to put your game backto week seven. Because a positive test with Tennessee they dodged a bullet with Ah Kam and the Patriots and that he was the only one who tested positive so day on Leah pushing that game back one day. There was little scare with saints that they had a player. We tested positive and may have gotten on the plane with them to go to their game in Detroit today, but it turned out to be a false positive. How has the NFL handled the pandemic in your eyes? How would you grade them? To this point, I give him a B Plus, eh? Might have done a really nice job title thing is the first real serious test. So what they've done were in the fourth week of the season. The NFL is fortunate that it was able to reschedule that game without too much interruption, obviously early by those scenes type dealers They were able to push it for a few weeks and doesn't it doesn't completely alter the fabric of schedule. If the paths and chief weren't able to play on Monday night, that would have been a bigger deal. We've been a lot harder. Move those games around, but I didn't get a felt by and large has done. Well look, no matter how well the NFL does, Unless they went toe a hard bubble like the N B A. N a challenge, I think is unreasonable. Considering the amount of people that you have to do that with three Jenna fell team. Um I think they've done a good job. People do have to accept There are going to be situations across. But I do believe that at some point, the NFL is gonna have to adjust a little bit and maybe add a week. 18, you know, maybe building a week down the stretch here. We're still look, everybody's going to be off this week. You know what we're building it in for things canceled or postponed or whatnot. I think that's probably gonna happen. But I gotta say, if that's all that happens, Adjustment wise in the NFL. How is it going? I think it's a huge win for the NFL. They have to be thrilled if that's all that ends up having to a season and a lot of people months ago, didn't even help you get off the ground. Matt..

"Key shining Michael K. The voice of the Yankees, who has a show in our flagship station, 98 7, ESPN in New York, where they talk, of course, all things Big Apple Sports and Michael joined us yesterday and one of the most adamant things, he says, is a time for straight talk brought to you by straight talk Wireless. Michael got straight to the point and said, there's no reason to make any sort of change with the New York Jets. Wait it out. If you have a terrible season, solidify a top pick a top two Top three pick. He just doesn't believe that this particular point, Michael Kay, who's been around the area for decades, he just says at this point, there's no reason to make a hasty move. You know what you are. You are what your record says you are is another famous coach, one said. But you're not totally on board with that. Obviously key. Look, if you make the decision, and that's the direction that you want to go as an organization, and I'm okay with it. I just believe that When you have your mind made up that he's not going to be your coach, long term and you still have An opportunity to evaluate your players. You can't really get a full evaluation on players that don't respect the coaching staff or the coach who's in place at this particular moment. When you get rid of somebody you put everybody also notice J. People start to players started to respond differently because their jobs are now on the line. But as there as you keep a head coach around, you're going to get 11 penalties for 118 yards, that Ms is not going to get cleaned up because they don't care. They're going to continue to Get personal fouls after plays rough in the passer, punching players. Whatever the case, maybe because they don't respect the head coach and If you got a guy on the sideline like a great Williams, that defense didn't play. Well, I mean, they were indisciplined, too. But if you wanted to go that way for the next 12 games or so I wouldn't be. You know, I wouldn't be against that. Knowing that you're not keeping him either. But you, at least if you're Joe Douglas, the general manager, you have an opportunity to really get a real evaluation of who you want to keep around. For the future based on how they respond the way the situation happened with gays in a new head coach, That's my experience when coaches or fired I do have a problem with them keeping out in case around and I will double down on your comment Key. I think what happens when you have a coach who people don't believe in or people don't like you've lost a locker room. You've lost the locker room. You've lost all credibility. So don't act like players. Don't read the newspapers are on their phones or aren't reading articles aren't listening to stories are listening to talk radio or SportsCenter people. That's what we do. We listen to it all the time. So once you've lost me now it I feel like the missed opportunities If you keep him on board now I have an excuse. He was our coach. Look what he's done the whole time. If you remove him from the equation, you have somebody who is at least new toe a degree. I'm not saying that that's great Williams Fine. At least it puts more pressure on the players to perform great. Now stand up and play. Gregg Williams, as an interim head coach has done a tremendous job places that he have many and a rare coach. Ah, players start to respond. And you say, Well, we don't want to do that. Because we got an opportunity to get the first pick. Second pick. Yeah. That may be the case. You look at the Miami Dolphins of a year ago They started off Rocky. Everybody assumed that they were trying to tank for two. It Well, they wind up getting any damn way. And they wind up kind of winning some games and being in some games for two. You know, it was like, okay, we got the guy that everybody thought we wanted and we got better, and we got a little bit better. To a degree, so that's kind of how I'm looking at it. I've been through this experiment to a degree. 1996 were 1 to 15. That's well documented. Obviously in New York's area with your Jets in Richie Kotite was our coach, either. Right. As like, God, you it was bad. It was the worst. I have offline conversations about that. But You could sense that he wasn't going to be there. So you could sense that the players checked around. We was already come all, Jake. Yeah, I'm coming with you. I was a bad team. I was a young pup. In when curfew happen. What? No curfew for me. I figured out what exit was that now? This is a pandemic is a different situation. But I figured out how to get my extracurricular activities in even though I had a game because I did not Respect. The coach because I knew he was gonna just being 100 Which you in rial 100 meaning like I'm being real with you. Got you? Just in case. You don't know what I'm in $100 bill, So I just want to clear up, but but it was like We did what we wanted to do. We'd go in. They're supposed to lift We go in. We We lived, but we really don't live right. You go in. You supposed to be there from eight to tear lifted all of a sudden we're out of here in 20 minutes because we didn't want to be here, Then we just started doing things differently. Enrolls the big tomb in his Cadillac. All that changed Bill Parcells. Bill parcels. All the change we go nine and seven. When the first year and in the following year we go TOC championship game. Think about that, because a respect level this respect level never mind his Super Bowl appearances and all that. Just the The fact that you knew what she was getting plus eight in the first year in a couple years on the brink of this, saying players now very small change is like we drafted a couple guys we brought in like a Brian Cox and that was pretty much it. We didn't really It wasn't an overhaul of the roster whatsoever. We still have the Melissa's the air and lands some of the players of the rain making sense of the world myself. We still had some of the same guys. And we did that. Lucky. That's exactly the point, though. Players have checked out if there's no account if there's no accountability for the head coach, So why's your accountability for me? No, it is true. And that way you got to hear coach saying talking about how rich he is, so it doesn't really matter. Aziz J. Will astutely say it. We hear that we see them. You know, I don't need to pull it up on my phone. Chances.

What we'll remember from the 2020 Biden convention

"For more on Biden's speech. In this week's historic virtual Democratic convention we're joined by two guests in Massachusetts Dr. Cornel. West with a professor of the practice of public. Philosophy at Harvard. University author of numerous books including race matters and black prophetic fire. His new podcast called the tight rope in two thousand Seventeen Cornell Westwood's in Charlottesville with. Neo Nazis stormed the campus he and other clergy members were protected by anti-fascists from the mob white supremacists and in Baltimore Maryland were joined by Ben Jealous Precedent people for the American way former president of the ACP. He ran for governor of Maryland in two thousand eighteen we welcome you both to democracy. Now, Ben Jealous congratulations on your new position as head of people for the American way. Why don't you start off by responding to this week's Democratic convention your thoughts on. Where the two now nominees the. President not presidential nominee, Joe Biden and historic a selection of Kamla Harris, to be his running away their positions and how. They represent what you do or not. Theme this convention was really one of unity. This was a time. When we have to come together to defeat a president, who is the most evil the most corrupt than any of us have seen and That says a lot. It also was the time we saw two two nominees who we as progressives. No, we can work with. Kamla. Sister who introduced her Maya. The former head of the ACLU of northern. California. Kamo ran for D. A. and much more conservative time and yet did so as outspoken opponent of the death penalty who then held her ground early in term when she was tested, would an officer was killed an the entire liberal establishment northern California came down on her and she said the death penalty is wrong period. Tremendous Kirch and Joe Biden who Bernie himself said is poised to be the most progressive presidents since FDR. And so while it's not Bernie. And while maybe it's not somebody else someone hope for what we do know is that these are people that we can work with. These are people who their best represent our best values literally the daughter of civil rights activists, the sister of a civil rights lawyer who are self told me fifteen years ago she became a prosecutor because it wasn't enough to just fight the power. We also had to hold the POW. And I've seen her act courageously. So I'm I'm very hopeful and I have no doubt that we can work with. Joe. Like addy who spoke so beautifully, and that was the true highlight for me. I believe that we must move towards Medicare for all I also believe that Joe Biden will take us further in that direction certainly. Donald. Trump and frankly further than most presidents that that that we have an opportunity here to move things in the right direction again and as organizers. That's the most important thing to get out of any presidential election is a president that you can move in the right direction. and Professor Cornel West your reaction to this week in the positions of the Democratic candidates for president if I president. Day My points of reference really are the freedom dreams that we just heard from zoom commodores and genius Lionel Richie. Of Ella, Baker, who was invoked by brother Biden and the first sentence. Of his speech the Alabama who was a revolutionary L. A. Baker who was working on the mass party organizing committee would offer annoy the Great William Kuntsler for actually working for third parties because he thought, she thought that the two party system was so decrepit and then also to Curtis Mayfield that they've been playing over and over again, the move on up but you got to move on from poverty. And in order to do it, you gotTa Talk About Poverty. If you go move on from Wall Street greed and Wall Street crimes, you gotTa talk about, Wall Street Green Wall, street cry go move on up from the Pentagon militarism around the world you gotTa talk about it. Those are the taboo issues that we don't get serious wrestling with. So when you really. Talk about the soul of America, the battle for the soul of America much of that so has been evacuated by the Pentagon, cry greed and the Wall Street greed and the inability of the police and other institutions at treat black people and Brown people, Indigenous People as human beings so I agree with brother. Ben. In terms of being part of an anti fascist coalition. That I think we're forced to vote for buying, but we're not going to lie about buying. WE'RE NOT GONNA lie about Harris. We're going to tell the truth about their. Captivity and their. Refusal to hit Pentagon money spending and militarism around the world at Wall Street, green and. Speak substantively to issues of poverty you can have massive protests all around the country, the largest in the history of country, you can have brother Barbara. Assisted theorist talking about poverty, and then when you get to the convention, you get this spectacle that has nothing to do with wrestling with poverty. I think court breath corey was the only one that even talk about it for the most part none of the major figures did thank God that Bernie thank God LLC. Got A little ninety minutes as opposed Republic Ninety Second Major. Sometimes. Ninety seconds, Ninety seconds so that I you know I'm I'm with Ben in terms of we got the vote for Biden but never ever lying about him and not coming to terms with the fact that. This moment with the decline and fall of the American empire it looks as if the system is unable to generate enough energy to seriously reform itself, it remains sanitized superficial. We getting Lawrence Wealth bubbles rather than prince the revolution I want to go to the Princess Revolution Concert I walk fundamental change.

Say that again. What did she just say to be honest, selling my under our has made me feel really empowered. Because I feel like I'm in control of my body. America the greatest country in the world. That is apparently a woman who has been selling her underwear after she wears it. And she's made a lot of money, but she's in control of her body. Blue moon, dude. Well, more on that riveting story a little bit later on. What a world that first clip was Bill lamb. A golf partner of mine. An associate of mine and of Michigan fan. I will get to the Michigan part of that. In a moment. Why shocking? I just started working. I shouldn't be choking is Friday afternoon. Good afternoon. Excuse me. Let me have a goal. Okay. Friday afternoon. It off we go. Now, apparently, Stephen knock is also testing the NBA waters for the university of Louisville. You know, we heard about Jordan war yesterday. And we were discussing his talents, and maybe some things he's still needs to work on and weighing whether or not he would get a shot at the NBA this year. I say no Stephen somewhat taller, but not as effective as Jordan wars. So I think you know, where I stand on that one anyway, good luck. It's nice for you to be able to put yourself into it. So they can take a look they can assess you and then tell you, you know, what you go back to college one more year in a, but you're going to be raring to go. There's only so many slots, obviously to get into the NBA. And there's a lot of talent as we're well aware how about the games last night. That was insane. The Purdue Tennessee game. Now, we all talked on this show yesterday about that being the game of the night. It turned out to be the game of the night. But I don't know that anyone thought anyone was going to score a hundred points in that game. And there sits Perdue at ninety nine. Yes, it was overtime. But still that's a heck of a score ninety nine ninety four the final. Admiral Scofield, Ian, you know, I'm a fan of Admiral Scofield, I dislike it, but like his attitude. He took it like a man the Tennessee star. Although really isn't a grant Williams is kind of a bigger. Yeah. Yeah. Great Williams, the second half grant Williams this kind of he just brought them back from the dead. They were down like eighteen. So there you go. Anyway, I like I like these guys that leave and they don't. Socia-? You know, he just this is the way a man takes a loss special. I think that the biggest thing. Oh that you have to appreciate the culture that we build a Tennessee winning coach. You just really appreciate it. I'm just said that I have to go out on this. No, he's a high quality guy. But I talked to a few people that are like, I'm so glad Tennessee's go editor, not Tennessee, Bhavan, Tennessee. Thank you. It's like what what did they ever? Do. They won some games. The beat them. If you're a fan of another team that was their opponent. Those people were probably big blue fans. Yes, I wasn't going to say that will get out there and say it, I'm not scared. The big blue. They don't like the orange. Guess that's what the connection is. Anyway. And it costs Kentucky a spot in the KFC Yelm center, that's true too. But don't you want your league to shine? Because everybody argues about how great their league is the ACC toughest basketball SEC's. No, it's the big ten and on and on and on and so as long as your team survive, and it's not affecting your team. I thought you want them to thrive. So that way, you just have the bragging rights. They would have if you K was playing in the center, then then it would have been Tennessee goes far as you can go. But that SEC loyalty ins when you mess up their road. So we have the Auburn Tigers at tonight's do the. E Kentucky fans want Auburn to win. Of course. They do. Exactly. Because that's North Carolina. They don't wanna play Carolina. I don't think you want any of that. As all. These songs will say these cheer songs chance on fight songs. You don't wanna lose? You. Don't want these whatever fill in the blanks heels. Yeah. You don't want these tar heels I still contend the tar heels are the best of the best. And I think it's coming down to a Duke and North Carolina finish on this thing. And they're they're just great teams. All right now, let me circle back to Bill lamb. Why did I mention Bill lamb who apparently was on some kind of a podcast someone sent me this audio? Let me play this again. It's the Lou review podcast and Bill lamb from WDR be president. He'll he'll get mad at me for not saying, it's title, right? Because I always say it wrong. He's the he's the big Kahuna. He's the I think the CEO and the president and the archbishop or something he's got all kinds of titles that he gave himself. He didn't have any of those titles. But once they gave him the biggest office in there. He just started naming himself those things. Yeah. Why not what am I call myself, a grand poobah, the high snoot, sir, and the CEO I mean, I don't even know if he has any of those titles all I know is I beat him and golf and he gets mad and I love to see him. So anyway, he's on this podcast. And the guy is asking them these different questions. So here we'll we'll get to questions that on this one here. So you can hear what's going on. It's quick recall..

"When kindle Marshall went down still had to be the point guard, the loss of Kansas, again, which is a whole 'nother thing that happened in this whole, you know, men's room of North Carolina. Kansas. They were eight seat in remember looking at someone time. I think when ROY was at Kansas used to lose lose to Carolina all the time to like, I think it's like that that game. Just like, yeah. There's been brain just anymore. Motion. So of your Kansas. You are forcing you play Carolina Sweet Sixteen this is the final time where maybe canes just doesn't have quite enough was far as the talent because they've lost as a bouquet la- Gerald Vic all the you know, all the guys that selfish coach in the bulls. Now, so, you know, working with Lori marketing really wish you'd gone to Kansas. So there's a chance at Williamson get over that. I guess that's probably the biggest story line as far as the top half of that region. But other than that the game would be in Kansas City, but slowdown wait. We still have for Kansas even get there. They have to go through Auburn who just want SEC tournament. Shockingly. I thought Tennessee one SEC tournament when they beat Kentucky. But there was a game today. That was weird allburn. She's a the Auburn is a great example of a team that Jackson of threes. And like when you're hitting the when they hit threes. It looks like the warriors when they're not they look like a team coached by buffoon on the sideline who's always miked up somehow, and it does feel like one of those things that get miracle. You know, we'd be the US as are in the next game against Iceland to win at all the gold is already done here. So. This game. Great Williams, go field. They were kind of just like. Yeah. That's the Wisconsin twenty fifteen when they beat Kentucky. And they're like we did it national champs because like you gotta play on Monday kidding me. But New Mexico state also is as the twelfth seed that Auburn will be playing is what we're talking about thirty four thirty one team, not the greatest schedule, obviously. But anytime, you're you're I do not want to play a team that's won thirty games. Like, I would I would much rather play Oregon even though Oregon's hot right now or whatever hot looks like for Pac twelve team. I would rather play or mild who is a power conference team just wanna power conference technically a power conference team just technically won't power conference tournament. I would rather play them than a team like New Mexico state who's won their games. And don't you think that's going to be? I think set Dave is pointed out on the I you talked. I can't remember. But he did point out that the fact that New Mexico say that twelve five game is the game to point to as far as up sets. So all. I'm wondering over and that's a bad draw. All upsets, this is a ton of upsets. All right. Let's move onto the game that everyone wants to talk about Ohio State, Iowa State. Have they ever met in ends eight tournament. That's what people want to know the answer. Here's a fun little trivia for all you Iowa State fans. You might forget this. They did me in the NCAA tournament. And in fact, Aaron craft took a charge with his foot in the circle the restricted arc. It is the the aircraft rule that you can now review whether guys were in the circle as they were taking charge then your tuck rule and then he hid and then he hit the game winner in Iowa state's mouth. And then Jake lower box walk on on Ohio State sprints out onto the floor..

"Live is going to join me here in just a minute. But before we do that just some thoughts on the game. The cats. We're up eight with three minutes to go and wit to a break after killed Johnson an one and it felt like they were in pretty good shape. Close it out. Usually in those situations Kentucky, he's been pretty good. And then down the stretch just kind of collapsed the next thirty seconds after that play to me decided the game you had. Tennessee come down immediately. Get a foul. Call in score. Get a foul called make two free. Throws a Tyler hero travel, which I think was actually a good call. He did chef was feet when he got there ball. I think is momentum. Just maybe more. And then I think the key call the game was right after that. When after that turnover. They get the ball to great Williams. He gets the an one on re Travis even though read on replay did not even touch him in backed away from him cuts the game to three and maybe more importantly takes re Travis out of the game. And I think the game changed at that point Kentucky was. A little discombobulated on offense last three minutes period. But really lost on defense after they lost re Travis a couple of different times, his man. In one case left grant Williams open. I think EJ Montgomery got lost left. Grant Williams, open got an open three that gave Tennessee to lead. And then on the last play with Kentucky up one a rebound that you'll never convince me read Travis wouldn't get EJ Gumri. Did not get a great Williams. Got it put it back in and got the one point lead with that. Sad Kentucky had a chance. I mean, we the cats had the ball PJ Washington. Drove yet. One foot put back to tie the game. And just missed it. And the cats ended up losing by four overall. I thought couple things it was a great college basketball. I mean, I really a great game this game and Duke Carolina last night. Are why college basketball is my favorite sport. They were exciting. This arena was unbelievable. Probably sixty five percent, Kentucky fans. Thirty five percent. Tennessee loud. Every basket. Somebody cheering was awesome environment in two teams. Just throwing haymakers at each other guys make plays. Great Williams, and Admiral Scofield made a lot for Tennessee for Kentucky. I thought killed Johnson. Made some big plays PJ made some big plays re Travis had some big plays Ashton Hagans had twelve assists on the game and made some big plays. It was it was I thought some great plot. I also think you can't talk about the game though, without noting that the officiating was horrid and. There are gonna be calls. I'm sure we'll talk about during the course of this hour that when it gets Kentucky. But they're also calls win against his seat. The it was a really poorly officiated game, especially in the second half. The completely took the flow of it. It was completely inconsistent. I thought Tennessee was kind of job by few calls from like the non minute to the five minute. Mark Kentucky was job by some calls down the stretch. Three. Travis foul. I think we'd kill Johnson with Kentucky up to turn the ball. Half court tizzy player fell into him when it knocked him out of bounds. I don't know how the ref thought. He just happened to fall out of bounds. But I thought that was a bad call and then at the very end. You know, I didn't see. Well. I three drives calls the one that bothers me the most because I didn't see that. He did not even touching. You could actually argue the last two re Travis calls were bad with that sad though. I don't want to just get totally off on officiated cats were up eight with three minutes ago. You can't lose that game. He can't lose. You can't have the turnover. The tyler. You can't have the situation where you lose three point shooters. We gave up three open threes at the end. And they made all three of you can't the last thing you want to do is leave guys open for three and they did. And you gotta finish killed them. PJ? Both may big plays down the stretch. But you gotta finish. We had the turnovers, and I was this point tower. Hero. Didn't get the ball in the last three minutes. Now, they got at least be an option. You know, there were a couple times where if one different thing happened Kentucky wins. I firmly believe if on the play were killed him was called for a charge, and he kicked it out to PJ for three if they don't call that charge PJ of Kentucky goes up tan they win. Now. I didn't think it was a charge. But that's kind of stuff they call. Also, if we just went up six head either used clock or scored instead of a mmediately turning it over on the Tyler hero play. I think we probably win. We just didn't execute kudos to Rick Barnes who went to a zone in the last three and a half minutes. And I think it really screwed us up. I think the offense has been flowing. Really? Well, taking guys off the dribble Kentucky's offense in the second half. From the start of the second half to about the four minute. Mark looked as good as it's looked in a long time. We had four different guys a double figures forever guys in double figures in the only one that wasn't was asking the at twelve assists. But when they went zone, they just did. Didn't adjust quickly. And I thought down the stretch. Rick Barnes made some good adjustments and Cal to be quite Frank. So it's a frustrating loss. It's not the end of the world Kentucky's going to be a two seed depending on where they put Kentucky tomorrow. We might look back and go that was a blessing. You know, if Tennessee ends up with a one seed with Carolina's there too. And we ended up as a two with Virginia we might go. You know, what I'm glad we lost. But for right now when we don't know what it's going to be it is a little bit frustrating. Now Ryan is here. What are your thoughts? First of all, I'm glad we've had this hour is the game has ended because I was bad. I was back in the game was over. Because like you said you're up eight with three minutes to go. You need to close the game out your too good to let that sleep slip away. And things were rolling. We were playing so well, and I agree with a lot of things you just said Tyler hero needed to get the ball. More those final three minutes after that one travel. I don't know if even touch the ball, see, I think down the stretch, I'm a lot of people criticize Cal down the stretch for playing stall ball when they're up believe I'm not like that. Because I generally think with most of Cal teams that have a great point guard that can score. That's actually what to do. But this team plays better flowing on offense team plays a lot better movie. This team has when re Travis plays five guys who can score. And you can get anybody the ball. And when you just hold it pound it. I just don't think that's the best way to play with this. I agree with other teams like the Harrison twins and stuff like that made sense this one. And so that's why I think that wasn't the way to go. I agree when you're when he's a ninety five percent free throw shooter. And you got the lead like that. Go to the basket with ninety five percent foul shots. He gets fouled. I couldn't believe that they weren't putting his hands. But with that said, even at the end, the one guy who was attacking the basket was PJ, and he just missed it. I mean, he just missed it. But missed it. But you know, he missed it. But he all but he's made a bunch had. And I can't get on him. I mean, he he made one a couple of plays before that we needed to put us up five he missed it. And he missed a little buddy it happens. Like, I can't get on him for that. If he makes it it's tied. Maybe they don't score we go to overtime who knows? But that to me was the least amount of concern, you made another crucial point look how we changed defensively after retrial fouled out, man. He found out. And you're right. That last rebound. You can't tell me he would have been in there if not gotten it, maybe prevented grant Williams from getting that baby. If you're talking about, you know, we mentioned the the key calls. The key play was not getting that rebe not getting reminding you played good defense. You gotta contested shot out of them and in EJ had position. Yeah. Okay. EJ was he he's in boxing out EJ was under him and he didn't box him out, which let grant Williams use his body and knock him out of the way. I think it was a foul, and he was clean. I think EJ just did not. He did not box him out and re Travis your he would get that ball. Yup. Now. I don't know what happens because it was still forty seconds left. Maybe they don't foul. Maybe who knows what happens. But I'll tell you what we know doesn't happen. We don't follow down like we did end up behind and EJ played well today. I mean, it's a shame because. When they got the ball. They hit a three. Yeah. They they shot the ball. So etait a CD at the first half seven of nine threes. And I missed six straight and it made a last year that came out the second half they were actually all of eight for threes. I didn't realize that the bam hit the last three. Yep. Like you said though, it was a great game. It was great college game. And there's nothing about this game. That makes me think Kentucky can't win and ask them. Do. You know with retrievers back. We all week. We have a team that could win a title. I agree. I think it's just tough man, man. I was so frustrated man it was it was and I felt like like you said the referees kept the flow of that game for being a great college basketball game on both sides. I don't Kentucky fans are mad. But you're right. It was on both sides. Yeah. It was it was it was a poorly officiate game. I mean, you know, I've become I like duck chows, we've kind of become friendly. He threw he threw a fan out when that happens that usually means things are not going away. They want Cal. And Rick Barnes looked at each other during the game after that one foul, which was I think on read I think it was his third. You know, what I'm sitting here thinking, I think reads last three thousand I don't think he'd have more foul you. Remember, the third on read where it was right after I think it was right after the flop by grant Williams on the drive in the kick to PJ you remember that. Yes. I think the next play great Williams posts up, and he just backs up, and they called a foul quickly on Travis read and at that moment, Rick Barnes and cow looked at each other and start it's shook their head and started laughing. Like. Tailing with that happy. Yes. They both started laughing. Like, what are you gonna do? Great game should have been the SEC championship game. This'll have the semi-finals costs Kentucky number one seed. Now, does it also cost of Louisville now? You know? I don't know. I mean, the NCAA chair first of all we have a few things you got to think about all right? We don't know who the number one seeds are going to be. We also don't know how the NCAA ranks the seventeen right now. It's likely the case that the seven teams airing some order, Duke, Virginia Carolina, Gonzaga, Kentucky, Tennessee, Michigan state. But we don't know how they rank. So are we the highest? I don't think we're a one..

"Free eight eighty eight. Ask Leo the great. William Gibson, novelist writer. I think one of my favorite science fiction novels of all time Neuromancer back in one thousand nine hundred forty kind of predicted the future with Neuromancer, including virtual reality. And. You know? Ability to get any. This was a big deal ninety four this Saturday impossible. But I remember very well reading Neuromancer back then thinking, yes someday. We'll have this the idea that you could have a tablet little device laptop sized device that would have all the world's knowledge on it. Yeah. The entire library of congress. What he didn't understand was it wouldn't be on that device. Maybe it will someday. But I don't think so because it changes too fast. You just connected. No, one imagined that we'd all be constantly connected to the internet. No matter where we are. That's an amazing thing and via the internet be able to access all the world's knowledge pretty much great great portion of it more than you'd ever need Gibson's. The guy who said the future's already here. It's just not very evenly distributed. And that's the case, right? I could talk about the future for some of us. That's getting a fourth generation ipod touch to store the music like I want to for others of us. It's like getting a it's getting a car that will drive me home while I sleep in the back. It's here. It's just not very evenly distributed. Sundeep on the line from Orlando Florida where the future is now. Hello, cindy. Not at Epcot. The city of the future, right? Yeah. Now, they call like the experimental community of like yesterday the other day that local call last decade. What can I do for you, sir? So. I was about to buy a ring video doorbell and then that hole. Yeah. With so now, I'm not sure what to get. Yeah. Well, I think probably it's safe to get a ring after that became publicized. So ring, by the way ring for a long time was a sponsor. I'm a ring user ring at home. We found out though that this is before Amazon bottom, and it's Amazon now before Amazon bottom they were in such a hurry to get an artificial intelligence built into the ring. So that it could recognize that's a human ring the doorbell. It's a dog reading the door. But whatever so good recognize what's up front a lot of cameras claim to have that kind of capability. Most don't do very good job of it. They were in such a hurry at the time that the founder of ring they had hired a team in Ukraine. And. At the time. Jamie Semenov who is the founder of ring was an in the Ukraine, and they said, well, it would really help us. We could actually teach it face recognition of that kind of thing. But we need the videos and similar off probably not thinking, he's a good guy. I really liked Jamie. Fan of the show, by the way. So Jamie, if you're listening, I don't blame you on this. But I understand I understand what happened. But he said, hey, that's a great idea. We can train our doorbells to do better recognition. Let me give you the keys to where we've got all these videos stored and that's a real cause for concern for any country. But giving it to a team in Ukraine. It's really. For a lot of people are real. It's like, oh, my you you, you know, maybe China would be worse, but there's not many places that'd be worse. So those engineers had free access to all the videos from all the ring doorbells, they could share them that was another problem. They weren't controlled. They could get they could all get Iraq. Gather round machine and watch him now outside doorbell video there's not much there to watch. Although ring his later sold indoor cameras that would be a bigger cause for concern Amazon after that bought ring and Amazon was quick to say, we don't do that anymore. They never denied that that had happened. But they said, oh, we don't do it anymore. So I think in a way it's better to use a company that's been caught. That a company that maybe doing it. But hasn't been caught yet? So there are a number. There are a lot of very good nest. Now makes a doorbell. I hear that's a very good doorbell. There've been other companies like sky Bill, well, as I said, I'm a ring user, and I've been very happy with it. I think if I were entering the market today. I probably would buy the nest because well this is Google now. Google security, in my opinion. Google security is very good. Google would never have said. Oh, yeah. You guys here. Take the video they know better than that. You know in Jamie's defense. I mean, he he was a startup guy. They're moving fast all that stuff. I think the choices. So sky Bill has been around for a long time rings been alarmed for a long time. The newer entries are the nest. There's August, which is a well known company for a bluetooth door locks. Also makes doorbell I think I'd probably go with a nest. Hello, If it were if it were me today, but I'm not getting rid of my ring. I'm very happy with it. I love it. There's a lot to be said for having a camera on your doorbell. You'll get notifications. With somebody comes up the stoop. You'll get notifications to somebody rings the doorbell you can speak to them and hear them. So this happens a lot I use it also to monitor who's coming and going in my house. You know, if we have workman coming over whatever, I know when they started when they stopped if our kids come in. I know when they got home you got home at three in the morning. No, I didn't I have the video things like that. And it's really great for package delivery. You know, the UPS driver comes and I can say, hey, I'm in the bathtub just leave it on the porch. And I can keep an eye on there's lots of benefit to it. I think a good place to doorbell. I'm really honestly, who cares? If somebody could see your front stoop. Honestly, I don't there's nothing much. They're equally was just gonna use it because I travel to work, right? May be gone for two weeks and perfect tried to put the whole vacation hold on UPS and FedEx. But sometimes it just doesn't work. You know, if I'm in Wyoming. Let's just say I can talk to the drivers. Okay. You know, whatever. Ring the doorbell you say, hey, please don't leave it here. I'm not going to be back for two weeks put it on hold. And I'll I'll pick it up in a couple of weeks. That's a very very very good use for it. I think it's great ring also has a neighborhood feature where you do allow others to see in your neighborhood to see your videos, and I've found that very useful people in my neighborhood was eight. Yeah. There was a guy walking around three in the morning years is video. And that's all of that. I think is good. I'm I'm a big fan, and I continue to use the ring. I don't have any plans to change. If I were considering another company, certainly Google is going to have a high level of security. I think Amazon also is going to have a high level security. I don't think Amazon's gonna let let that happen anymore. They got caught sometimes in this back. It's better to use a company that got caught. Hey, I appreciate the question though. I've I highly recommend easy to install they work. Great. And it's really nice to have that video..

"Other people like it's important for the other person to compliment you in even if you have a huge ego, or you think you're better than the other person if the other person can bring something the table that you don't you need that person? So you just kind of suck it up and deal with them. I think a pretty good example right now, and it's different because it's personality is not the same. As Adam gaces is Doug Peterson like is is Jim Schwartz. Really Doug Peterson type guy. Probably not. Ideally, I mean, it was pretty clear that he was bad mouth at him last year through back channels in the media, but Doug also knows he kind of needs. You know, he's not a defensive guy. He doesn't know what to do. He needs him to call place. So it's been a good marriage. I really think that even if these guys don't even like each other, you know, that's not important here. Now, you gotta work together. Obviously in any business. You gotta be a quote on quote. I love this. You got to be a pro just means you gotta be mature about certain things and suck it up and deal with it. And no one you do, but you don't have to be best friends you have to sink kun-bae on hold hands every day. I think this is probably the best assistant coach hire of the entire cycle. Just because of how dependent gaces on this figure in his organization. Great Williams, not gonna go anywhere. He's not gonna get a head coaching job. At least according to us on the outside. According to him, he's got them lined up. But I think this is the perfect marriage. And even if these guys are kind of crazy and don't tend to listen to many people, they don't really need to listen to each other. They just need to coach guys up in Adam is an elite into coach in. Now, he has. Darnold. The jets defense is not great. But Greg Williams has a long history of turning defenses around. He's a big time defensive coach a love the marriage. Love the higher actually kind of excited for the New York Jets. One thing's pretty clear through Jerry Jones's words this week in Jason GARRETT'S, reiterated that all coaches are coming back. That douse not gonna make coaching change. And I think we knew that the moment it became clear the Dallas was going to win the NFC east. But and I did a topic maybe in the offseason or maybe really early on in the season that at the end of the day Jerry in his late seventies would pay an astronomical amount of money to make Jason gear at work. Do you think in a million years that Jerry Jones at his age and the amount how great his life is in just now that this team has signs of life that he he wants Jason Garrett to be a star coach so desperately so badly mainly because more than likely if he gets. Rid of Jason Garrett. He will downgrade even though Jason is probably just a slightly above average coach. But here's the problem. Let's say, Jerry, I hope he lives long. I love Jerry Jones. But you know, he's in the late seventies. He doesn't have that many more years left that if he just keeps riding this out with Jason Garrett the outcomes already pretty determined. And I've been someone that has defended Jason gear. I almost think he gets a bad rap like people talk about him like he's Jim Thome Soula like he's the village idiot..

"Eight five five two one two four CBS eight five five two one two four two two seven can't get through on the phones hit me on Twitter at the real gresh GRE. So we're on the precipice of divisional round weekend. We've got Indianapolis at Kansas City. That's the early game than its Dallas at Los Angeles chargers at New England and then Philadelphia at New Orleans and another little note of history here just in terms of really the last ten years or so of divisional round football. So I do believe. If I've got the numbers, right? And I heard them driving somewhere two days ago. So of course, I couldn't write it down or anything like that. But in the last ten years in the divisional round, I do believe there's only been one of the last ten years where the home teams were foreign, oh, there were two instances where the home team's which means all the teams coming off the bye week were tuned to otherwise three and one is the most consistent. Pattern. I guess because I I guess I'm kind of looking at it from a betting standpoint, but free and one for these home teams is the most consistent result that's happening in the divisional round. So where to hold true to that? We are weather in Kansas City. I don't think anybody thinks that the Rams are really in danger of losing. I know for a lot of people would New England. There's your head versus your heart. So therein play on this and look not for nothing. But New Orleans has been great, but they are playing the defending world champion. Philadelphia Eagles with a quarterback. Who has? I mean, I've seen producer, Tom. Have you seen the bird box this now, I have not I okay, all I know is I see Sandra Bullock blindfolded and to me, that's Nick foles like he's blindfolded. He doesn't know if he's playing in the opening week game or the Super Bowl. It just seems to be unconscious Nick foles who goes out and especially in the postseason play as well. So you've gotta give Philly more than. Maybe. Punchers chance to beat New Orleans. So the most consistent result is three and one in this division around in terms of these teams at home. Then who's the team most likely to go home? For me. I narrowed it down earlier this week to New England and Kansas City. And now that Spencer wears out and you throw in whether issues in KC, I think that throws that game sideways. I really think it throws a big monkey wrench into that game. And I'm now starting to wonder if Kansas City, maybe ends up getting bumped your thoughts America on each one of these games and the whole, hey divisional round. Normally there's one home team that kinda goes home who might that team. Be eight five five two one two four CBS eight five five two one two four two two seven Tim is in Wisconsin. And he is first up today on the gresh show on CBS sports radio. Hi, tim. Hi, my yearly phone call to you always drive into a game and whatever football game, and you know, on gresh, my, man. Tim, are you are you a announcing today if I have the right, Tim in Wisconsin. You remember that? That's insane. Actually. Yes, for you know, your way water division, three national champions. Correct. That is correct. There you go. Well, you know, I'm not good at remembering names, but voices. I'm okay, and yours is the state. So thanks for the call. What do you have my friend? I think I think that what's his name one hundred per Todd Gurley. Todd Gurley is the key Dallas Dallas I want the ball Jared Goff hands for that defense that just me. Tell me if I'm wrong on. And another thing real quick, just a national perspective. What do you think of a Matt look Fluor hiring in Green Bay? And then I'll I'll hang up and listen, and we'll probably talk your next weekend. Thank you, brother. I appreciate you as well. In terms of LA, and and girly. Yeah. I could say he's the key. 'cause look if they get him rolling, then the play action is going to happen. And it'll settle Goff down too. So I'm with Tim on that. I think early is the key get him establish early. And the one good thing about girly is you can throw him the ball early. And sorta get golf into a bit of a rhythm. I still don't completely trust Jared Goff in situations like this, but he's got plenty of people around him. And they have the experience to get knocked out last year that I think is gonna help. You know this week in coaching. It's funny because in the old off air show producer, Tom, and I were kind of talking about how crazy a two weeks. It's been in the NFL, and it sort of felt like last week was the storm. But this week it came rolling in on everybody because the coaching hire started to happen. I'm really torn on what Green Bay did. Because I don't dislike Matla floor is a coach. I don't know if he's ready to be a head coach. And when you go into a situation where you need a head coach, and the Rams did it, and it's worked to an extent. Let's see if it works to get him to a Super Bowl, and maybe Sean McVay is just a special special guy, and it might be the only one that it works with. But other teams looking at Sean McVay, like, it's some sort of experiment. And then saying, Ooh, I wanna be a part of that too. And willingly hiring a coach. Who is very ofensive minded who has never run a staff before who has to communicate not just what the offense players, but with all fifty three players, and if you extend it out all sixty five players when it comes to practice squad. Makes me uneasy. And you know, what's really funny is that when you look back in one thousand nine hundred eighty five in the Chicago Bears. You will hear a lot of all bears players say, you know, dick, you ran the team, but Buddy Ryan ran the defense, and it caused a divide, and that would be the thing that I'd be worried about Sean McVeigh has a unique ability to connect with people. So that you really lessen the chances of that happening. But let's be honest. If Wade Phillips goes with a different mindset, or or let's say that's Greg Williams in there who we can be strong bullheaded. Look, there's a. Great Williams talked about it as introductory press conference. How he turned down jobs, but yet no one even brought him in for a dadgum interview. I don't believe maybe Cleveland gave him a courtesy interview for the head coaching job. I have to follow up on that. But to the last I knew they didn't that guy. Guy couldn't get a head coaching job anywhere. And he couldn't get a sniff. But do you bring someone in like that who has a little bit of an attitude, and may not be completely on board times as we've heard from you know, the whole Greg Williams past that could be detrimental to your football team and very divisive. And that's kind of the stuff that scares me. I'm not saying that they needed to go out and bring like Brian Billick or people like that out of retirement. But trying to just create a situation like they have in Los Angeles with Sean McVeigh to me is very dicey. Because that may only work with Sean McVeigh eight five five two one two four CBS Aaron Rochester hills. Hang tight. We're getting to you as well. "And say, you know, what if they can get this? They're going to be a playoff team next year. Why not? One more year. Now, you have the maturation process of Baker Mayfield. What happens if you hire the wrong coach, we hear the owner of the Browns and has lem is very tight with Adam gates. Now, I think Adam gates is a heck of a football coach. All right. But you're gonna tell me Cleveland that you're going to replace great Williams with Adam gays. I would love to hear from Browns fans how that's gonna go over. Just just put that out there. You've got a blue collar guy in a blue collar town that has coaching the heck out of this football team in Greg Williams. Maybe you do look at saying. Okay. Great Williams is fine. And we'll we'll still keep him on. And he could run the defense, but we need to get an offense of coaching here. And we need to do this. And we've got Baker Mayfield. And we've got our team that is right on the cusp of being in the playoffs. Love to hear from you from the fans and the dog pound at eight hundred six three six eight six eight six because I'll tell you one thing if you're the Browns if you make the wrong decision here like this this Browns franchise, the one thing you can safely say they cannot afford to take a step back. Now, it has been too darn long. And I went to college in Ohio, and almost all of my friends are from the Cleveland area. And I went through the heartbreaker the Brian Sipe interception and the drive in. I've been there. I understand I get it. I know the history of the Browns after this weight after losing the franchise the Baltimore after getting a team back and being so bad. And I mean, we were talking about real bad. Now, you are right on the cusp the Browns cannot make a mistake here. Let's get to Andrew in canton. Hello, andrew. Welcome to the Jim Rome show. How we doing good, man? What's up? I actually live in San Diego. I'm from the canton area. Your heart. You're smart. San diego. So I applaud you. That's a that's a great move on your part. I don't know how you did it. But I'm giving you props didn't take the snow him on that. My town. I love being from Ohio love living in San Diego. My take on Greg Williams loved that. The team rallied around grade whenever we finally got rid of her. One of the reasons I'm conflicted. But if I'm going to choose a reason to keep Greg Williams. Him and Baker seem to really work well, together and. It was apparent that. Hugh and Baker did not get along. One of the reasons I I think we might want to consider somebody else. And I and I hate to bring it up. But but great Greg's got a bad bad history. And we all know what I'm talking about. So we want to go down that road. Are we are we prepared to take on Greg Williams who seems like he's got a good head on his shoulders. Now. I'm conflicted. All right. Well, you we know that Freddie kitchens is coming in for an interview this week. And we know Baker Mayfield loves him offensive coordinator. And we talk about, you know, a guy that you know, bakers your franchise. I mean, let's just call it. The weight is Baker Mayfield. Barring injury is your quarterback for a long time to come Baker Mayfield needs to have somebody with him that he is very comfortable confident and respects greatly. I'm not saying he doesn't respect Greg Williams. But let's face it. Greg Williams is defensive coach could you hire a new head coach with the premise that. Greg Williams is going to be the defensive coordinator. Yes, you could would that be okay with Greg waves. Andrew thank you for the call. It is going to be very interesting here this week to see the direction that the Cleveland Browns going because again, we're talking about a team that cannot afford to make a mistake here. They absolutely cannot make mistake with the head coaching search whether it's Williams or somebody else, and again kitchens is a guy that Baker really likes. You don't want to you. Gotta be careful here. Let's get to Dave calling from Youngstown, Ohio. Hello, dave. How you doing good day? Yeah. My my my opinion is I think we a. To keep Mr. Ramzan. Mr kitchens. We've got a gossiping good going on here, and you roll the dice. And you may not get what you have now. All right, man. Thanks. Appreciate the phone call. Yeah. You would keep him as the offensive coordinator. Keep Williams says the overall head coach. But but again, I'm okay with that. If I'm looking at this from the Browns perspective, here's what I say. If I'm the Cleveland Browns. This is the way I'm looking at it. And you haven't been able to say this in a long long time. If it ain't broke don't fix it. This is the first time in ages that the Cleveland Browns are heading in the right direction and have a lot of momentum. It seems like everybody is on board within that locker room and within that organization again, let me stop and repeat myself. When is the last time, you could say that about the Cleveland Browns? Been a long time, right? Been a long time. I mean, do we have to go back to the eighties when they were a yard out from going to the Super Bowl at Denver with the Byner fumble. Are we going back that far right? I mean, you are we going back to Bernie Kosar? We going back to. Brian site. I mean, how far do you want to take this thing back? If you are we going back to Jim Brown. We're going to go back to the sixties for crying out loud. I mean Browns fans, let's wake up here. Let's understand what we're dealing with. You wanna go back to the dark days of being laughed at? Embarrassed. You finally have a good football team and out there. I know every city says this. Well, but I don't know whether they city. That deserves a winner more than Cleveland. Now, we saw it with LeBron and that was incredible. But if there is a football fan base in this country that deserves a championship more than those die hard longtime suffering fans of the Cleveland Browns. I don't know which city that would be. I lived through it as I said a lot of my friends are from Ohio. You gotta do the right move. Here. Got to keep them momentum going. All right. We'll come back. We'll take more phone calls. Eight hundred six three six eight six eight six black Monday in the NFL. There are eight vacancies currently in the National Football League. We'll talk about that and more next year on the Jim Rome show. You're listening to the Jim womb show. We try to make healthy choices. But do you ever? "Chess. Stuck out chin up head held high life do just so proud to be rocking their Browns gear. And it's it's a really really really cool thing. The watchman football is better when the Browns are competitive football in they all right now Djibril peppers another guy who bought out that game. What are your thoughts on your, bro? Man. Well, he's he's playing better. You know, he came to Cleveland, and I think he got a lot of flack because it didn't seem like he was playing all that. Well, especially like in pass coverage and the first year the people in Cleveland gave him a lot of shit because Greg Williams had him playing like thirty five yards off the ball for a while. And so that was like the thing to talk about in Cleveland, but he's playing good football. Now, he's becoming that emotional leader that physical. Presence in the secondary. That I think everybody had hoped he could be when they got when they drafted him, which was awesome. But let me go back to one of the things he said about Baker that I think it was awesome. So coming off of the panther's game the week before he was almost flawless. And then this week. He had an interception. He was only completing about fifty percent of his balls. You only had one hundred eighty yards passing. But what he brought to that team was playmaking in the right moments and leadership to raise the level of everybody's play. The Broncos have a good defense. Let's let's not forget about that. They not they may not be statistically at the top of the league. But they're pretty good defense. And so I thought Baker showed why he's going to be one of the great quarterbacks in this league. Because given on his best on his worst day or a day that maybe doesn't live up to where he was the week before or some of his expectations. He's going to still play his best football and to the Cajun when it's needed. And I thought in the second half. Down the stretch. He played some really good football. So. And as as always like you said Jibril peppers with the big sack at the end of the game. Against case keenum, which I don't understand how you get sacked on fourth down of the game. Play. Like, you know, if there's pressure coming you have to have a hot or some outlet where you can get rid of the football easily. And for some reason case keenum just ate the football and gave up on that play. Didn't make sense. It just happened really fast. I feel like I think prep has got there so fast that he literally should his pants and didn't know. Great defensive calls big a defensive calls. Great Williams man is is he the new head coaches of Brown's Joe tell it to me right now. I would say that I'm guessing John Dorsey right now, what's going Shipman? I'm gonna have to hire this guy because Greg Williams is doing a fantastic job. He is really giving himself a great opportunity to take the job. But just for everybody out there when you get hired as a GM to take over an organization, you have a list of maybe five guys in your mind that you're like, yeah. First of all, I'm not keeping this head coach, I might keep them for a year. But I wanna hire my own guys. This is just how football works people that come in. They want to hire their own people. So John Dorsey, I'm sure when he took the GM job in Cleveland had this thing in his head that hey, I wanna hire my own guy. And these are the five guys I really like. And now he's got an interim coach Gregg Williams tremendous. Job who is clearly made himself one of those candidates. And I think it's going to be the comfort level that John Dorsey has with Greg Williams that's gonna play a big factor into whether he keeps him or not. Because clearly as a coach from a wins loss perspective from getting his team to buy in and play. Greg Williams has done a tremendous job. Do I mean, that's the thing about Greg Williams? You never worry about him. When the football side like he's always been a great defensive coach. He's always been a great defensive mind..

"If it goes poorly. And I guess he is he has but I- if there needs to be probably a touch. More time left for that to make sense. Because what I what I liked about it. In theory was by kicking the field goal. If you give up the field goal. I don't know. I guess you say touchdown win. But give up the field goal when you're down by what would they down by four? Yeah. The more. I think about it the more. I think you're probably right. It's probably not a great decision. I didn't think it was a horrendous decision. Great Williams had an interesting fourth down play as well then. Yeah. Going for it on fourth and one rolling the dice. And it came up short. We forget about that. Sometimes don't we these coach go for it on fourth and one. We Pat him on the back how ballsy of you. And then when it goes poorly. The eagles had one get stopped the day that bid field. It's we kind of forget about the failed fourth down to call. Sometimes Dan Quinn had won in overtime a couple years ago against the chargers really good week seventeen game against or week seven game. I mean, but usually we don't remember the failed fourth downs. We remember that converted fourth downs. I did want ask you real quick. I if you'd have any insight on that fourth down play for the Browns. So you had the you know, the neutral zone infraction as Greg Williams is calling time out grant the time outs. They don't get the first down and get to Neil that. And then the game of when it's great Williams. I know only the head coach can can signal the time out. But is is at a time out. That's coming from Freddie, kitchens telling Greg Williams to call timeout because something's wrong or Greg Williams. Call that on his own. That's a good question. I don't. But I would imagine that's coming from the offensive side. Because typically when a coach runs down to do that there's something they're seeing on the defense. They don't like. And that would be a highly detailed thing that they're seeing on the defense that they don't like which means that whoever's doing that is privy to the play call on the plate is. So that's probably comes from the offense, and it goes through Greg Williams headset, but I don't I don't know that for sure. Well, my thing of the week was was just going to be I do hope. Vance Joseph gets a gets on the chance because I think there's too much of a hotter. No, there's this huge emphasis. I wrote about it this morning had you had you read my calamander. There's this huge emphasis on symbolic moments like that for coaches or in game decisions because anyone who's played Madden can probably do the clock managers of that as well as any coach, you know, eighty cleary. I'm sure it's different. When you get there in real life with the stadium full and all these guys around you that you well these players around that area. That's what I'm saying. You know, how many Googlers out there, you know, to them? Andy Reid is the clock management guy. When Andy Reid is is so phenomenally good at every other aspect of coaching that this thing that's probably like five to ten percents job doesn't really matter again. But it's funny because you're right. That's a small fracture of a head. Coach's job and yet that's the fraction that they get judged on by far the most because fans fans do understand it. It's a math yadda thing. And there's nothing else for fans think about so they're always right? And I get it. That's good. Bella check, by the way on that clock management. The end of the first half showing that they were going for it on fourth and one then running the punk team out there. So that Pittsburgh couldn't use didn't use their timeout to preserve the half. That's the best clock management ploy..

"And that's that's I think that is the difference to me between an NBA game and a college basketball game. But not to say that NBA guys don't do that and talk shed and say, right. I'm going to win this game. No matter what. But the the look on that man's phase admirals. Go fielded. How much passion that he had about doing that for Rick Barnes's coach, right? I think you're gonna see Russel Westbrook saying I did that for right? I mean. Yeah. That's the only difference. I would say is more. It just feels like there's more love in in what's going on. Which is basketball is a game of love. We love watching it. We love seeing in playing it. So I don't know that that's really the difference. When you look at that. I wanna talk about great Williams more Cosco 'field because I felt like grant Williams. Had the better game up until like Bill. You go. Visit. I guess I'm just going to start. I guess I'm gonna make everything for the rest of this game. And when this force, but grant Williams was playing out with mind. He he was again, maybe I'm just projecting. How I felt about situation on what I was watching. But I felt like he was frustrating. How camera on both ends of the floor hundred Myrddin played terribly. He wasn't as good as he usually is. But you know, what he did in that game much mirror. He said, I'm tired of driving to the basket. And guess what? I mean is that I'm going to take these little jumpers at the elbow because I don't want to get in the middle. Was he found out? So like, it's it's gonna be weird. What I'm about to say. But he's so good at at Fallon without fouling. And they obviously does foul, but they play so physical like he like hot emerge trying to drive on great Williams. And there's one flavor grant Williams just like throws his chest atom, and like no rest really going to call it a foul, but he kind of fouled him and he's like kind of roughing him up. And I it's it's little stuff like that. That was you could see how to merge is. Like fuck. I I guess I can't drive that way. How about eleven minutes left to go in the game. Yes. Three fouls. Hatch Amirah gets the ball right there. It's going to be what you would expect to be an easy dunk. And the reason that he goes up for the dunk is because he says himself. He does the calculation of grant Williams says three files there's no way he's going to go up would be try to block this. Yeah. So I'm gonna dunk it. I'm good. I'm in the clear. Everything's gonna be okay. Great Williams jumps up and block the shit out of him. Right. And he looked at it. He's like, yeah. I would've taken four let you know how I feel about. I don't care. I will go down with the ship. Exactly. Yes. The titanic. He he's on a and then when he plays. He's so fun to watch offensively. He's he's basically like he's a smooth operator the way he gets angles. He he his whole thing is like I'm gonna make you think that all AM is just a physical pushing everyone around in the paint. And that's what I do. And then it's like the defense thinks. All right. That's what that's what he does. So I'm gonna start pushing and they get into a sumo wrestling match. I treat them like selling. And then then he crosses on him. He's like see you later bitch. I'm going to turn and face and hit this jumper. I'm going to step out and hit the reason. I wasn't ready for this. This is too much grant you're doing too much. Now, he's he's basically, honestly like you brought it up. So this is your thought I'm going to have you back it up. But I I give it more thought he might be just like a better version of Hans borough. Oh, yeah. He is. He is. Six foot eight guy that they can run everything out of the post with him except for Tyler hands, bro. All he did was go. Just like throw it over his shoulder, and it would go in and just catching it geometry. The floor. Feels dirty to say he's better than hands. When here's head like one of the greatest careers of all time saying he's better than hands where I'm saying..

"What the hell? Cryan. What's up? You ask. Would you turn this garbage down not garbage? I'm just upset. Okay. Wow. So this show is no play this song. I'm sorry in the Browns win and now at one forty six on the east coast. Here we go again is now officially no, no, it's not it's not I'm just frustrated on. It's not garbage. I love Michael Stanley. I love the song. Yes. I take that back. I apologize. I just don't want to get worked up about this. Okay. Your fan base went from the two thousand sixteen Browns to like the two thousand five in a blink of an eye. I hate you guys. I hate you so much that's quarterback in the league taking regulation. Even Steven and Cleveland, stop laughing at say even. Good morning. Good Morning, America, man. Michael Stanley rocks. Cleveland rocks. I apologize on. I was just mad. That's where I was worked into a shoot. I'm sorry. Not a problem. But I do understand why you worked into that shoot. My man. I guess my question would be lesbians makes the playoffs or not. I mean, mathematically, they're still in just to be in the discussion. That feels good cause a huge step forward. Yes. That is a huge. A major step forward. I guess my question you would be whether or not we make it or not. We know why? Now, they look like a true football. Competitive football teas. So my question to you on fourteen and what do you think they should do what the coaching going forth? Be. Because here's my thing. I'm not a I'm not a proponent of keeping me one at this point. But at the same time, I don't think you can discount. Anyone? Way possible that you believe that they would be able to bring in. Coat that would be able to you know. Here's the sad thing. Can I'm not I don't believe in handcuffing a coach I understand what a new coach comes in. They normally want to pick their own staff. But do you believe I so here's my question to you. Okay. Here's your any coach that you think the person that you personally like. Candidates. You personally like if. Is there any of them who would be willing to keep kitchens and? Oh, man. Thank you, keep kitchens and great Williams on as a staff and hang up and listen to your response is that's a that's a great question, and Steven I thank you very much for the call. And I thank you very much for the non insanity. Thank you very much for keeping things as realistic as possible here for the head coach if the ravens were to let go John Harbaugh, which we keep hearing is a possibility even if they were to make the playoffs because if you have that conversation again next year if they're four and five or something like that. And you're talking about letting them go maybe it's time for a split if they let go John Harbaugh. I do anything I could bring him to Cleveland and coach bronze Baker Mayfield the whole thing. Ma Freddie kitchen staying on the offensive coordinator. It would be almost perfect for Greg Williams. I'm of the mindset. The way that they're winning any football games. They've won three of their last four. The way that they're winning any football games as they're going into the foxhole. Great Williams is a fine football coach certainly could save more for him than I can for Hugh Jackson. Greg Williams is a fine football coach and knows how to motivate those guys are playing with Baker Mayfield because bakers trying to motivate and they're playing from within. And Greg Williams is jumping in the foxhole with them if you go into next year, and Greg Williams is still part of that staff. But as the offense is the defensive coordinator and not the head coach, I think that that can naturally caused some friction. Greg williams. I know that he might be sixty years old. And maybe he's a little long in the tooth and feels that he just wants to be a defensive coordinator against says these types of things, but if you win gave say they do say they go out to Denver on Saturday night, and they get a win against Denver. And that's going to be a hell of a task that they go out to Denver and they get a win on Saturday night. You're six seven and one then they come back home. They take on Cincinnati a team that has been a rudderless ship. They get another win their seven seven. And then say they lose the final game of the season at Baltimore. They gave it a ride. They come up short seven eight one people are going to be feeling really good about Greg Williams, say they go on a different direction. They bring in somebody else. But the keep Greg Williams, they're naturally, and I think Greg Williams is such a competitor. And I couldn't blame him. He would he would be questioning some things. And I think those players they would rally around Baker Mayfield as they are. And they would rally around Freddie kit or excuse me. Greg. Williams intern. And I think that they would question some of the decisions that were made so either Greg Williams stays on the head coach of the Cleveland Browns full-time, or he's gone altogether. Freddie kitchens from what we're to understand from a couple of people in the NFL lockenfora day Bruegel or a couple of people that we've texted throughout that anybody who is even having conversations with John Dorsey and the Cleveland Browns, they're talking about Freddie, kitchen staying on the offense coordinator, my personal like I like John Harbaugh ton. I like him a ton. Should we go around the league? Or should we just hit more phone calls here, buddy? Yeah. Let me get the Rick and Baltimore let me get the Rick and Baltimore because we don't have much time left. I mean what the hell right? There's a couple of teams that are just too. What do people really care what I have to say about the Jaguars? No, rick. Go ahead. Hey, Ken dog which show first time? Call calling you. I call that. I cannot be ashamed of our apple today. The ravens they great game. And it was a great game one Halloween game. Of course, the talk around here. The talk shows we did it again. Cincinnati DC was on the field last year. It was the same scenario today. Brothers and we've gotta finish him. We've got a point of away. And. You know, I'll tell you. There's a lot of talk about Joe being hurt Lamarche man right now as far as I'm concerned. I don't know what they had playing next week. You know? Yeah. I'm tell you. It's. Right now, be honest with you, Pittsburgh looks like data one. And we look like, you know, we got a chance to we really wanted. Pittsburgh seems like they're trying to win a win fights in the media against each other than they are actually winning football games. Rick. The bronze I think could be the team.

And you're talking about let him go. Maybe it's time for a split if they let go John Harbaugh. I'd do anything I could bring him to Cleveland and coach. The bronze Baker Mayfield the whole thing. I I know that he might be sixty years old. And maybe he's a little long in the tooth and feels that he just wants to be a defensive coordinator against says these types of things, but if you win game say they do say they go out to Denver on Saturday night, and they get a win against Denver. And that's going to be a hell of a task if they go out to Denver and they get a win on Saturday night. You're six seven and one then they come back home. They take on Cincinnati a team that has been a rudderless ship. They get another win their seven seven. And then say they lose the final game of the season at Baltimore. They gave it a ride. They come up short seven eight one people are going to be feeling really good about Greg Williams, say they go in a different direction. They bring somebody else, but they keep Greg Williams air naturally. And I think Greg Williams is such a competitor. And I couldn't blame them. Freddie kitchens from what word understand from a couple of people in the NFL lockenfora date Bruegel or a couple of people that we've texted throughout that anybody who is even having conversations with John Dorsey and the Cleveland Browns, they're talking about Freddie, kitchen staying on the offensive coordinator, my personal like I like John Harbaugh ton. I like him a ton. Should we go around the league? Or should we just hit more phone calls here, buddy? Yeah. Let me get the Rick and Baltimore let me get the Rick and Baltimore because we don't have much time left. I mean what the hell right? There's a couple of teams that are just a what do people really care what I have to say about the Jaguars. No, rick. Go ahead. Hey, Ken dog show. First time call calling you I called that. I cannot be ashamed of our African ADA ravens. They it was a great game. And it was a great name one hell of a game. Of course, the talk around here. The talk shows we did it again. Cincinnati defense is on the field the last series. It was the same scenario today brother, and we gotta finish him. We've got a portable way. And you know, I'll tell you. There's a lot of talk about Joe, you know, being hurt Lamar's man right now as far as I'm concerned. I don't know what they have planned next week. You know? Yeah. I'll tell you. It's. Looks for me right now, be honest with you Pittsburgh looks say they don't want. And we look like, you know, we got a chance to we really wanted. Pittsburgh seems like they're trying to win a win fights in the media against each other than they are actually winning football games. Rick the Browns, I think could be the team. Stop.

But not the fault of car in Jared, cook circus catch look Ma one hand the role that touchdown look mar two hands for the Cleveland Browns, the rookie Nick job. Grabs it how about Dan dolls go in the dog pound two hands and a helmet and the Browns role that cross state rival the Bengals thirty five to twenty. Let's give it up for the Cleveland Browns. You know what they're now. Four six and won the Browns fans. We know they haven't had a lot that you're about lately, but they're becoming a four like we said and the way I would look at if I'm a Browns fan four six in one. That's about five hundred more to come for the Browns steamrolling toward week thirteen. Brumer? Thank you as we continue yet Tom Brady and the patriots got a win yesterday. But he's all well right now for TB twelve we'll give you some reason to wonder if perhaps the answer is.
