I've been going to bed so early lately. But here's a couple of things i can't. I know we talked about this. So best picture musical comedy. Hamilton movie called music palm springs the prom and then borat. How is that still. I'm not a fan. I'm not a fan leader. I don't know how that makes it over. There was that many. But i mean and then okay. Best actor motion picture. Wait i wanted to. You'll you'll be very excited. Best actor motion picture best supporting actress. Best supporting okay. Wait i gotta find that the page you're going to be. You're gonna wanna watch this with me. And she's pointing at me some with her nose avenue idea cramp. We'll just tell me in by man. Just hang on singer something okay. I was shocked. That news of the world was not nominated for anything except best score for a motion picture That's the one with tom. Hanks news of the world. Yeah okay Does so good to you. See that Gosh is best drama series. The crown lovecraft lovecraft country mandalorian. God people love that ozark. Yes i'm watched. Owen ratchet okay and then best musical or comedy series. Emily perez the flight attendant the great shits creek and ted lasso. Okay but also. I think best television motion pay sorry. I'm trying to get through this. So i can see. There's so many nominees some really big deal. Lia's best actor television actor drama series. Your boy jason. Bateman is one of the nominees arkham best television actress. Musical comedy series. Catherine o'hara from shits creek is has been nominated and for best television actor musical comedy series eugene levy. The johnny rose from shits creek has been nominated. He should have been. Yeah so those two were nominated for actresses and anti murphy who is on shits creek. She was the sister alexis. She's been nominated for best supporting actress television. But that means daniel levy didn't win anything with was not nominated for anything Sorry i know. But he's so cute. He's so cute so funny so funny so he did this canadian baking show and i couldn't find it anywhere except youtube so i started watching it on youtube. I can't get enough for him. He's so adorable. "What's bid on it. And the emmys though they are they still to be taken seriously the have problems of their own. They're definitely better though in that like. It's you know who the voters are people who work in the industry. The problem is there's just too much tv for anybody to keep track of and so it's like what what if people heard of what they know who they like. What's a name. They recognize on the ballot. There's a lot of different complicated things that come into play but like the most. Recent watchmen was one of the best shows of the last five six years and that swept a limited series category. So i was happy about that. It's what now. I love the show. I it's one of my favorites of all time now. But what did you think of shits creek winning every single literally every single word. That was a weird thing where it was like each category one show swept it so it was not the most dramatic of -sarily shits creek. I kind of putting the ted lasso. Category of i've always liked it but not loved it and i also don't find it wildly funny but again it's about a bunch of very likeable people especially when you get about a season and the family accepts that like we're stuck here and we're going to get used to it. See i think like i think shits creek is like so far and above ted lasso. It's not even but that's that's good comedy. Comedy to me always feels more subjective drama and obviously not everyone gonna like the same dramas or anything. But it's sort of it's easier to look at something and say oh that's great acting or oh that's really suspenseful. Whatever wears what makes one person laugh is not necessarily gonna make another person laugh on a molecular kinda love right right lives below like seinfeld and curb so all right so if the golden globes let's let's play a game year hypothetically if they were to be taken seriously. Yes the nominees for the best comedy series. Emily you mentioned the flight attendant. The great shits creek and ted lasso. If you're picking who you think will win but who do you think deserve if those are choices. If someone said. I wanna watch one of these shows. Which one would you tell them. I would recommend either flight attendant which was a whole ton of fun that's on. Hbo macs more the great which is on hulu which was one of the big surprises of last year. It's a comedy about the young catherine the great with elle fanning and. She is so funny and so charismatic in a way that i was not expecting from her. It's a really great performance. And it's from one of the writers of god the name just fell out of my head The favorite and it. So it's hurting. Nicholas hall to win the favorite at. That's a really weird and dark show but you will not forget it if you watch it and then same thing same question here in best drama series which means that the crown which my dad loves lovecraft country the mandalorian which i see on twitter. Twenty four seven ozark which you mentioned in this show. I never heard of called ratchet so bad. It's an origin story of nurse. Rachid from one flew over the cuckoo's that basically makes no sense within the context of who she is in one flew over the cuckoo's nest. It's sort of it's ryan murphy. Who's one of the most prolific and successful producers in television..

"At this year's golden globes with a carol burnett a word while jane fonda is latest rookie recipient of the cecil b demille award but two thousand twenty one golden globe ambassadors are the children of sparkly. Nbc will broadcast the golden globes. Next sunday the twenty. Eighth with tina. Fey and amy poehler retrained to host for the fourth time from it coasts. But i'm sure they'll still be awesome. Here are the tv nominations. They are eligible from january. First through december. Thirty first of last year drama series the crown lovecraft country the mandalorian ozark and ratched. The only one that i saw was the mandalorian drum actor jason. bateman for ozark. Josh o'connor for the crown bob odenkirk for better call saul al pacino for hunters and matthew rise for perry mason watched was better call saul so all the better for bob odenkirk. Most likely he will not win. Because it's not not the final season but we'll see what happens. The next year drama actress. Olivia colman the crown. Jodie comber for killing eve. Ama- coren for the crown. And laura linney ozark and paul sarah paulson for ratched comedy or musical. We emily in paris. The flight attendant the great shits creek and tad lasso a man. I would love for shits creek to take this. But i love that tattoo. Lhasa was in there. That show was fantastic. If you've not seen ted alaso on apple tv plus what are you doing with your life. Go over there and watch it even just for you know the preview of however long you have to watch it for the for the per whatever preview they have. I don't even know but it's great fantastic. Gives you all the good feelings about the world watching that show comedy or musical series actress lily collins. Emily in paris kaley cuoco for the flight attendant. Elle fanning for the great jane levy for zoe's extraordinary playlist and catherine o'hara for shits creek. I love catherine o'hara so much would love to see her win. This but i also love jane levy very much so i would love either one of them to take this comedy or musical series actor. Don cheadle for monday. Nicholas holt for the great eugene levy for shits. Jason sued is for ted lasso and aroma. Yosef for romney. And i love me some eugene levy. I really do. And i would love for him to win this. But i also realized jason's data so that one would really really happy of jason's today one because he is what makes headlines. I really work. And he's fantastic on it for tv. Movie or mini series. Normal people. the quinn's gambit. Small acts the undoing in an orthodox. I haven't seen any of those. I've heard really good things about queens gamut though so i need to watch that tv movie or mini series actor bryan cranston. Your honor jeff daniels. The komi rule. Hugh grant the undoing. Ethan hawke the good lord. Bird mark ruffalo. I know this much is true. And i haven't seen any of those for tv movie or miniseries. Actress cate blanchett mrs america. Daisy ed- edgar jones. Normal people sheera for unorthodox. Nicole kidman for the undoing. And anya taylor. Joy for the queen gannet. And i haven't seen any of those for supporting actress. John boyega for small acts. Brendan gleeson for the komi rule. Daniel levy for sure creek. Jim persons hollywood and donald sutherland. For the undoing. I really hate the golden globes for the fact that they put. Tv movie series and many series in the same category and al rail against this until they don't do it anymore. It doesn't make any sense there as t movie or miniseries. That's a great category. Just do that but you could also separate it and do series supporting actor because there's so many other series that need to be having five different dominations that have nothing to do with t. movies or mini series. They're never going to change. This really makes me mad. But i love daniel levy so if he could win over all those miniseries people up a great for series team movie or mini series. Supporting actress. gillian anderson the crown helena. Bonham botham carter the crown julia garner. Ozark anti murphy shits creek. Cynthia nixon ratched again should not be serious. Tv movie or mini series all in the same category. But if it has to be anti murphy needs to win because she's fantastic but anyway i looking forward to the golden globes next week. I really love the golden globes as my favorite award. Show you really weird this year. Because they won't have people in the same room drinking and having fun it'll just be you know just like the emmys were this year or you know every other awards that we had this last year where it's just you know video cameras in people's houses or the the case of the emmys they were all cast and caro- gathered in one place together outside. It's going to be super weird. They're definitely a lot of people. They were snubbed. In that list but then again there are also a lot of really great. Really great Nominations did make the list. So that is the news for this week. You can find everything that i talked about at. Tv ran podcasts. Dot com slash. Three seven six and. That took a long time. So we're not going to really go on for very much longer here. I'm going to the weekly rewind. And i'm gonna give you some thoughts just on one show that i just watched today. And that is the series premiere of keenan which is on nbc so had its pilot episode and this is a really charming series and kennan town has a lot of charisma. I've loved him since way back in the early days of nineteen nineties. Nickelodeon with keenan cow. And all that. So i loved him for a very long time. I'm really. I've been cheering him on for many many years. I love him on saturday night. Live i don't know if he's going to leave. That show of this show blows up but the pilot was really good. And i think the show it has real potential to actually be good series stirs him as a recently widowed dad trying to racist daughters aubrey in brady great names for kids. I think that Busy phil would agree. She's got a birdie as well alongside his father in law. Rick played by don johnson and his brother gerry. Who's played chris. Read this show does really well. They might be leaving to black. People will be might be leaving. This showed as well. 'cause obviously ken thompson and chris redder cast members. Well at this point while they're doing both shows they don't have a whole lot to do. Snl which is fine so if this showed as extremely well they might leave the show. We'll see what happens but don't counter chicken before a hatch. It's only been one episode. We don't know what's going to happen after this anyway. The title character still struggling to juggle his job as an on air host and a full house in the wake of his wife's corrie's death. The episode begins with an image of keenan waking up in a jumble of us kids limbs which was super adorable rushing so quietly to get himself in his girls ready for the day he quickly showers lays out. There close packs their book bags and assembles our lunch. Of course peanut butter and jelly while they sleep and his tiptoeing around. The house is in vain. Because rick played by don johnson drops in unannounced making him make a high pitched yelp and waking his girls. Rick brings in uh saxophone. S his weapon and then he has a really cute one liner. That's in the trailer. After a quick chat with gary who has just rolling in from a night out the club. It's off to work cans. Work crew includes a few sitcom favorites. We have fortune five. Stir as the sports correspondent pam. We have him re lewis from single parents. Assez boss pam. I love that. She has bounced back to a new show. Because i love her. She's amazing and taylor. Lot men as.

"Generally. We don't ever really think about movies in terms of what they did or didn't win or what they could or couldn't have won. I mean there's plenty of snubs and and that does fuel it but like something's lasting artistic value really has very little to do with what awards it got and to me. I don't know mechanical. I've read interviews with her but there is something like. I hope that there is a part of her. That was like fuck you guys. Then you know what. I mean like good i disagree with. This wasn't made for you. You know what i mean. This wasn't made to make you feel whatever you're supposed to feel to give this thing nomination and i maybe that's right. Maybe that's wrong. I guess the concern would be this if mechanical or if i may destroy you had garnered some nominations if it if she or that show had had a moment on stage to say thank you to the hollywood foreign presen- and twenty five or fifty or ten thousand or one hundred thousand. More people heard about that show. That hadn't would that at all. Change her bargaining leverage next time. She goes to make a show in terms of what she wants to make or how much she gets paid and the things that she gets to do in the future. Now i personally doubt it. But i could be wrong. Yeah i think. That's a valid question. And i think it's unknowable. Obviously because she was nominated this time. I'll tell you like if you were going in. And if briar patch had been nominated for for a golden globe too soon. I'm just like let's just play hypothetical. That ed all figure into what your representatives were saying to a studio about your next project one million percent. Yes but i am. Also and i'm sorry to ruin people's image of me especially after the beard travesty. I am not mechanical. Now by mikhail. Cole is a unicorn in the sense that that is unanimously. The best show of twenty twenty among the creative glass among the television community among anyone who wants to make tv makes tv rights for produces it studio stats they all. Everybody knows that's the best thing she can do. Whatever she wants she has a blank cheque green light. I'm i'm sure of that because of the achievement that she did not the case the briar patch. Which is fine in the case of something that is you know overlooked or under scene or whatever it makes a huge difference absolutely in in terms of getting more people to watch it but also the creative people's leverage because i i hope i hope i'm being clear enough i don't think it's mutually exclusive to say this is meaningless but it does mean a lot of course and i also want to separate i don't mean to diminish the is strange as the sounds after the rant i went on. I don't mean to diminish the accomplishment of people who were nominated because you know you see emerald fennel who wrote and directed promising young women freaking out on twitter. There's a difference and i hope it's articulated clearly. It's great that somebody likes what you made. It's really validating and rewarding that you send something out into the universe and it hit its target and if it's target if it was these hundred people who i keep castigating as weirdos. If they loved it were moved by it. That's hugely validating and lovely for the people who worked really really hard on it. It doesn't stand in as a value judgment of the work of the time spent right. it's not saying unanimously or unambiguously. This is good or bad. It's just means someone liked it and that always is worthy of celebration But then you start to take these these steps out away from it and you look at the entire list which we can go through some of the lowlights and it is damning not just because one show. The best show isn't there. It's just because it is a snapshot of an industry that i don't recognize you know if if you look at the nominees for best drama series and best comedy series. So the just to run the head scratching. The best drama series televisions the crown. Lovecraft country in ratchet and musical or comedy. So again ratchet. Yeah okay musical or comedy. Is emily in. Paris flight attendant. The great shits creek and ted lasso. And you know There's a good shows there and there's some some bad shows there and there are some. Yeah there are some shows where it's like. You're just somehow ryan murphy has. Has this award show unlock. And if he makes anything it's gonna get dominated. Yeah and it's bizarre but it is also you know we should. I should have been more prepared for this. You know you get to the time with the award shows and we talked about this with the emmys that the drama series category was such bizarre catchall. But i guess it was reflective of the not just the diversity of lack of unanimity about that type of television show at this moment but succession was there in succession. Deservedly won golden globes were now into the next year of eligibility and there's no succession and atlanta isn't back yet. You know and these shows that have broken through Are there and we're not sure when they will be there hopefully hopefully in time for the emmy's in the fall but but it's unclear. Yeah so i. They were sounds silly in a year of horrific actual damage and loss but as an entity i guess the golden globes were dealt a bad hand. Because they don't just have that much shelter vanhanen and then they've doubled down on some really bad cards. You know what i mean like. It's not like they made the best of it. I thought last year was a really great. Your television despite everything else that was happening in the world and you know i destroy you is just one of a number of snubs. Better call salting get nominated for best drama. In racy horn once again was overlooked. I think it's also worth saying that. You and i and maybe most of twitter would support an opaque strange awards group with their own show if it was a different group with different tastes. Because that's when strange things could pop. I mean you could look at this and say the hundred people in america who thought ryan murphy's cuckoo's nest prequel rachid was good finally have their moment to champion. Yeah like it's it's tough. It's not tough. It's actually quite easy to pick and choose. Who gets champion. Idiosyncratic tastes when they don't align with ours right like that's a pretty weird pole and i should. I should probably think of it that way. In the same way that i used to look at like a random nomination for his second reference on the show like nick offerman when he finally got nominated for parks. It's like oh something snuck in. I guess that's what ratchet is doing right there. But yeah i think that i. I think these things for for people like our parents. You know their broadcast on either network or basic cable date or do people who are not extremely online to shows they may have missed or skipped over or not really thought twice about but.

So the number of people who applied for unemployment benefits at the end of January has fallen to a nine week low. That suggests that hiring is back up and this record wave a corona virus cases is is receding. And that's good because, of course, when people have jobs, they spent money when they spend money. I'm Noel King and I'm Steve Inskeep. The Golden Globe nominations were announced this morning. A group called the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, hands out the awards, and the nominees for both film and TV include a lot of productions that you may well have seen in this past year. Of watching lots of stuff on screens during the pandemic. The top contenders in the motion picture drama category, for example, include the father manque, Nomad land, promising young Woman and the Trial of the Chicago Seven in TV. Emily in Paris, the flight attendant, the Great Shits Creek and Ted Lasso on. Of course, those are just some of the nominees there many categories and John Horn is following it all. He hosts the podcast. Hollywood. The sequel covers entertainment for Kpcc. Good morning there, John. Good morning. See what are you hearing from the people getting nominated? Well, I think that says a lot about the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. I had exchange early this morning with somebody who had multiple nominations and his PR contact. Called and asked if he would give a quote to celebrate his nominations. And his quote was the Golden Globes are a expletive, expletive and publicist said, Okay, I'll take that as a no. Never mind. Okay, So there's a bit of cynicism about the Golden Globes, which we picked up on in an earlier conversation with you about them, But there's some interesting films here. You told us about something called Nomad Land. And there it is one of the nominees for best motion picture drama. What's it About? Yeah, This is one of my favorite movies of the year. This is an adaptation of a non fiction book by Jessica Bruder about a group of people who have been displaced by a variety of economic downfalls, and it's largely stars the actual nomads. They call themselves House list, not homeless, They caravan around the country looking for temporary work. Was produced by and stars Frances McDormand, and it was directed by Chloe Jaw and one thing that was notable about the Golden Globes This morning is there were three women nominated for directing, including Chloe Jaw. That's a first for the Golden Globes, and I think it really does set up Chloe Jaw as the favorite for best director for the Academy Awards on Lee. One woman has ever won that award. That's Kathryn Bigelow. No Asian woman obviously has ever won. The best director knows. Yeah, Women have a majority of the nominees for director this time around. I do want to call attention to one other film that's just particularly interesting here on this nominee list manque. Which is about a screenwriter writing one of the greatest films of all time. So it's Hollywood. Commenting on itself doesn't Hollywood kind of love movies about Hollywood? Hollywood loves anything about itself? I mean, so, yes, any movie that celebrating, you know the art of filmmaking? You can think back to a movie like the artist. Definitely. Hollywood likes to celebrate itself, and it likes films that are Both critical and insightful about the business and bank is a movie that was written by David Fincher. Very popular, very well received. I got to say, though they're a lot of movies that got top nominations, one that I've never really heard of called. The Mauritanian was selected for best actor in a drama. And then there was a very poorly reviewed musical called Music that was nominated for best musical or comedy may be needing to fill out the fill out the form. Who knows Who knows? But some good stuff in there and John, thanks very much for the update, really appreciate it. My pleasure. Have a good day. John Horn hosts the podcast Hollywood the sequel and covers entertainment.

I could just sort of out the world. So i had a cat named sukey who was before and That little cat was like my child and she got. She's a persian and she got kidney disease And i had to in the last years of her life. I had to give her inject fluids to keep her alive. Because her kidneys. Were not working anymore. Which was really sad. It was it was a really difficult experience. But you know when you love when you love someone you're you. I'm kind of happy now. That i was the one that got to take care of that little richer in her. You know her last moments her last year's Through her life told. I held her when they put her down And it took me. It took me three years if this was three years ago. Took me three years to kind of get over it. you know. i'm not over it but like to to decide that it was time to try to get another kitten So i got a kitten. that's That's another persian. "I didn't wanna say anything. That meatloaf night was yesterday. Dare we get another flashback to the party from when they were rich after this and it's to the party's aftermath. Were johnny wanted to gather the family around. They're enormous christmas tree in exchange presence. Both kids have already split and more has taken her christmas pill and only has eight minutes to get up to bed before she passes out. So it's the reality of things creeping in the same way that it crept in during the previous seen. He's depressed because his family is always been thoughtlessness and selfish in the end. though they aren't moi retrieves him from the diner breed headed off to and when they get back to the motel their friends gathered for what is a lovely christmas party z. A a a nice things happening like you're crying only just a a gave a. It is a very traditional christmas episode sitcom platinum. Well it plays it straight. there's no meta textual commentary. There's no winking at the audience. Tell us how stupid the idea is. There's no deconstructing turning something on its head. It's just yet another half hour plot. Where one character wants to revel in the joy of the christmas season and everyone around him doesn't have time to work things he's not serious so wrapped in their own bullshit that they can't bother and i have to say it's great shits creek when all the emmys this past year for its final season and one of the things that did well was very sitcom you premises while relying on the characters and the actress. Play them to do witty. Sue to be witty sarcastic and corky. This show has a real heart to it. And it's on full display in this episode and who better than eugene levy to play the doting enthusiastic. Father he's played that type of character. Before but johnny roses a little more complicated than jim's dad from american pie a partially because he's the main and not supporting character but also because he's a rich asshole who lost everything in is over the course of the show six seasons discovering. What's important as well as getting it all back. Even the charlie brown ending which could very well tip into schmaltz works. Or maybe that's just me. Because i'm a fan of the show and i'm invested in the characters but as biting and sarcastic as the rose family can be to one another. They don't hate one another and honestly. I think we need that this year. We watch some really awful terrible things happen and the response to them has sometimes been enough to lose your faith in humanity like i said toward the beginning of the episode. I'm not here to litigate that but it certainly was on my mind as i watched all of these shows my hope for everyone this holiday season. Yeah who am i to say anything right but i'm going to anyway my hope for anyone. This holiday season is that the time we have brings us pause and patients. We will think about a lot to learn about what we've been through what we're going through and what we're going to be going through my best wishes to you and your family for a happy safe and healthy holiday season as well as a wonderful new year and every mother's child why to see if reindeer really know flow. "Without. Cohen. But he faced the colts in the buccaneers I. Mean we last week on the show I said he was going to have another game just like the colts game no rushing efficiency. We have to count on his passing game work increasing but the Colton bucks of the maybe the two best run stopping teams in the League is certainly in the top five. So we expected that low end deficiency as a rusher, but the volume's not going anywhere he's still going. To get most of the carries and against average or poor run defense, he's going to be more productive. He said a career high two weeks ago and targets with six. He said another career high last week with eight. So he's being used in that department more than he ever has in his career much like Joe Mixon the past couple of weeks other throwing a him or that's huge for fantasy, and here's the most important thing about this week the panthers. They're selling out to stop the pass. Guests have been better than expected against the pass. They're not stopping the run at all and came on shorts out for the season right now it gets even worse. They've had the most fantasy points are running back to the most touchdowns with nine already the fourth most yards and the most receptions, which again comes in handy here as we mentioned, he's being used more department. So Montgomery if this is a competitive game could have twenty-five touches in this game he catch six passes have seventeen or eighteen carries NBA, the top scoring fantasy running back. It's all there for them. The opportunity is right there for them if they don't somehow sneak in there and take. On Bell which by the way seems like one of the best fits maybe the best fit for but doesn't sound like. That's going to happen that it does not sound like it's GonNa Happen You know what I'm GonNa. Do Daniel. If if Montgomery as a dud on Sunday, you normally do what I'm going to call my clay up on facetime Yup I'm GonNa say you'd better facetime pickup right now I'm GonNa go You David. David for those that are not watching now live Mike Claes, rocket a shirt all shirts today. Great stand up, show the mass working with or yeah. There you go. Maybe stand up a little bit. For. Those. unacquainted with the Great Shits Creek. But I say award-winning like basically every award they want every emmy every emmy almost quite literally every ever. Yeah Amazing Beveren emmys. Yes. Daniels Middle Name is David. So i. felt it appropriate because you find that shirt online on the I did some searching on Amazon. There's a lot of. Ability Shits Creek store. Now can go is stuff to some other versions of this. Show. What a fantastic show phenomenal go watch it if you haven't already or go watch it if you already have appropriate saying a lot of good things about Dave Montgomery wearing an David shirts. Time now for IBM Smart Lineup Decisions and I have a player that mentioned just a little while ago who is back his name was Cam Newton. Came into the top five quarterback play this week and you know with Cam, there are probably. Innumerable stats that you could use to support the case for cameras the top five quarterback play. Sometimes, it's going to be what's most likely to happen based off of a ten year sample size with Cam right and if he has shown anything though these three starts at he has had said he is very much still an elite fantasy quarterback might be. I think in some ways, we're still going to real quarterback as well. The answer to the Patriots question about how they would replace Tom Brady. He's been a top six quarterback and two of his three starts. He's been the best goal line runner on their roster and one of the best goldline runners probably in football again, this year and if you look. At how the Broncos have shaped up defensively this year they've just been so decimated by injuries in the front seven, not just von Miller Draymond Jones where their starting defensive tackles. He's on I are they play linebackers on I? Are they have been all sorts of banged up on that front seven which leads me to believe the Patriots are going to. Adopt a similar game plan if they did against the raiders when we last saw them play at home, which was run the ball for two hundred and fifty yards if they can and I think Cam Newton cashes them with the rushing touchdown on Sunday. Yeah. I like I thought this was really kind of a funny thing when looking looking this up here. Cam Right now third now, keeping my most quarterbacks played five games for cams third quarterback and carries fourth in rushing yards second in rushing touchdowns suddenly appeared in three games. One of those didn't go too well. So how about that? That's interesting by the way Denver seventh most fantasy points line to quarterbacks, and they allowed a six carry eighty, four, one touchdown rushing performance to Sam darnold. Remember that know and now you. Get Cam Newton it's GonNa be a little tougher. So I'm with you I. Mean I've ranked a little lower, but he's starter cam also he has two touchdown passes on ninety one attempts this season again as Mike was saying the beginning of the show like still small sample size early in year, he's played three games in one game nikiel Harry fumbled the ball at the six inch line if he just has. A little bit more of a Gogo gadget arm got three touchdown passes and then came in the Seattle game I understand that it was a rushing attempt. But if hurdles just a little bit higher, he has yet another rushing touchdown. We might be talking about cameras, the number, one quarterback and fancy this week with Russell Wilson on a by and my guess maybe that Buffalo. Defense. Is quite a scary as it was last year for Patrick Mahomes to face. All right. So great up there in the rankings. But then before we turn to a few social questions, other stuff for mind, I'll get to that second. But before we get to that.

A show that has had several seasons. Yes. But has just now had its final season. Yeah and. Consequently cleaned up at the emmys winning. I think yeah nine emmys. For six season. That's a pretty impressive gene Levy for outstanding lead actor comedy Catherine O'Hara for actress Dan Levy using Levy's son says supporting actor supporting actress, Andy, Murphy who plays their daughter? Yeah Cook Clean up clean up yeah. And then and then Dan Levy also one for writing directing and producing as well on the show very, very interesting My wife was actually telling me. that. This was sort of a pet project for Eugene Levy in Dan Levy like they they wanted to make something together right and so they didn't have much of a budget. So this show is always worked under tight constraints and. Also help them to do some very creative things and to have some different challenges. I mean I I'm a huge fan of the. Best in show. A mighty wind you know those. Types of. So. You just get some of this cast together I'm like all right I know there's going to be some some solid stuff in there and. It's good to see them give a show a Lotta recognition. When it's when it's like their last chance. But sort of just as a I don't know a note on media and television. Do you feel like? It's it's good that shows get recognized in their final season or. Like do you feel? Other shows are missing out because Oh like Shits Creek has been a big show. It's gotten a lot of attention from people. A lot of people enjoy it. It just hasn't. been recognized on its own, and now the this is like the last chance for it to be eligible. Let's just throw a bunch of awards add it like. I don't know do you do you feel one way or the other about that or because it's not like movies where you get one shot and then it's gone wrong shows have you know multiple seasons are on for a long time? Well, I was trying to I was trying to go back and look at. The. The lead actors move star with the lead actors for for the show. So blackish Anthony Anderson Don cheadle for black Monday to dance and for the good place which was in its final season. Michael, Douglas Kaminsky meant method and Romney Yousef. For Romney L, like. Shits Creek in the good place those were the only two that were were in their final season for for this. Shirt it's a very narrow example. Doesn't actually answer your question at all, which is do do I do I think that should in his final season. I. In one way I think it. Minimizes like. How how good a show is in whatever season if they only recognize in its final season if they only recognize it the Fabulous Marvelous Mazel is is on here a couple of times and I know that one emmy last year not in not in its final season at all. Like great cool. You recognize in its first season. Now it's in its second season now, if it again or wins next year, then then great Shits Creek by all accounts has been great from the first season to its final season and you know a warning it is. Go-. Good job you did it finally. See later, but and I don't know I. Guess I guess I'm not sure how I feel about it like. What's that? It's a perception thing right? Like, yeah. Like like a good job pat on the but like in good game good game with your with having the succeed of good show or whatever. Yeah. Like I I think that especially for TV recognition. It is is a lot different from. Like. You know live theater or movies where you have one production or you have one like initial go at it and take everything from that one year and you're like, all right. This is. This is what this is. Okay. A locked in amount of time where we can recognize things that were made and this was the best of it at whereas the Emmys you can kind of. TV is more persistent it. Unless it's a you know A. Dramatic miniseries or a What do you call it a documentary or something like that? Right where it's where it's it's something short or It only comes out. For for shows that are on for multiple seasons, I think they have a little bit more play where they can say you know what? We're not just recognizing their six season or a particular episode of the season. We're recognizing an effort over six seasons and this person yeah you. You've been great throughout and haven't had an opportunity to be recognized. Let's take this chance to make sure that you know. Would we say good job? Done it, which is why the announcement that the walking dead is going to be coming to an end I mean they're they're going to sweep so much comedy drama I I'm shocked that show is still aired horror either they. Think somebody. Violate announce that they're they're gonNA end it. Isn't daryl getting like his own spin off or something yeah. But you know we can stop watching it at that point. Just. Getting talking. About widening it so long. Every when whenever I talked to my friend Gary at work, he's like agent yeary. You see the the last episode of the Walking Dead Gary. I told you I stopped watching it a long time ago I as long as I've known you I have not watched the show. Like Oh yeah. Well. Could. Just said that like I just did I say it every time. He doesn't want he doesn't watch this. Oh, he's he's he's old. He's he's an old he's he's. In late forties or maybe it's fifty. Doesn't he's old Gary Probably. Jerry Levin is walk in bed still still. It want everything last night, didn't it? It did win everything and fat Shit Creek said farewell to a series with a sweep at the Emmy Award. Not only did it win outstanding comedy theory, but it also picked up all for awards for acting, which no other theories had ever won those four awards plus writing plus directing, plus the theories awards, so I mean it's safe to say the cast went out with a bang last night and Truly the first entire hour of the Emmy Award was fits great ships. Great Shits Creek. Just back the back the back It was it was unlike anything I've ever seen. And actually a lot of 2020. You know what I think people like you and me just like saying the name of that show. I'm a big Chris Elliott fan myself. I think he's the best part of that show. You know, I love you, Jean and Dan. To be honest with you. I just love their father, Son dynamic and you know, in re alive to see them. You know, celebrating last night was really special and then also what the show represents for inclusivity and you know all of that. It's well deserved when you know what I was thinking. I was thinking first of all. Must have been a nightmare to direct the technological advancements. Everybody's made in this pandemic, but I'll tell you some, like bar mitzvahs and weddings. Much better. Virtually. I thought the Emmy show was one of the best I've ever seen last night. So did I. I thought it was really put together. I thought the opening monologue with very interesting because they used footage from previous any award shows to supplement Jimmy Kimmel laugh with clap or, you know, laughter or a standing ovation, which you know if anyone worked, you tune in at the beginning and not understand that that wasn't live that could have been a little bit problematic. But I feel like it turned out really well. And Jimmy Kimmel, you know, address the pandemic. I think throughout the entire night, they embraced that they had Jason's today get at one point, you know, taking a covert cats on the stage, and it was really interesting. They you know, they showed how they were transporting the actual any trophies live to the winners and the losers. I feel like a lot of people don't realize that even if you lost There was still someone standing outside your house holding an Emmy. Yeah, and that's fire bit at the beginning of the show. Got a little too hot, didn't it? I did a little bit unpredicted their codes Jennifer Aniston and Jimmy Kimmel. We're doing a little bit of Ah, funny bit where they were dousing an envelope with anti bacterial spray. You know, all in the name of covert Nice feet prevention. And so Jennifer Aniston had You know, Put the fire extinguisher to the trash Can, which was now on fire, and Jimmy Kimmel went to reach in for the envelope, and it restarted on fire and you could hear producers in the background. Put it out. Put it out. You could tell that would go a little off script. Yeah, No kidding. And so there's a There's a reunion in the works now, right? Well, a. They had a bit of a mini friends reunion last night, didn't they? They did so Jennifer Aniston's co stars Courtney Cox and Lisa could dro supported her. They showed up during the Emmys. And, of course, you know Twitter went wild. Anytime. Those friends no pun intended, get together. It's always something that you know people talk about. On social media because we love a little many friends reunion. And of course, we didn't get the the big reunion that we were anticipating this year due to co bed, But we at least get these little glimpses in the meantime, and they were all there to support their girl gem. So we all loved it when I hear a little bit of Jimmy Kimmel's introduction from last night where he referenced their union Yet. Here it is. I want to check in and see if Jennifer Aniston made it home. Can we get that? You bring her up? If we could, we'll just see if she's there. Oh, hi, Jen. Oh, good. You're going away so much Sure that something your category is coming up. I wanted to make sure you're there. Yes, I just I barely made it. But we're here home. Okay, Jimmy, look at this. Courtney Cox. Courtney's there. Yet? Of course I'm here. We live together. You do. Yeah, We've been roommates since 1994. But I thought that was what is it Is this live TV? Unbelievable. Lisa Cooper. You live. You live there, too. Yeah. Where else where I live? I don't know. With your family. Maybe Yeah, People say that their families.

"Wait to see more of what does so yeah, I'm so excited about watching that Guy Agni, and I think he's so spectacular in this but that for watchman you know was not a sweep we should acknowledge mark ruffalo one, a lead actor in a limited series or movie for I know this much is true on HBO and A Deuba. One of the few things I really really liked about Mrs America was her performance Shirley Chisholm one for supporting actress. I love her and I loved that performance even though I didn't really love the show also Maria Shriver who won for directing Unorthodox. A lot of people really love, and so that's very much on my list. But in drama you did have another pretty strong performer in succession, which is a show that I love succession. It. Makes me feel I was saying during the thing. It makes me feel so basic how much? That I, really do Jeremy Strong one for actor in a drama series managed to avoid splitting the vote with Brian Cox they one in writing they won in directing they won for outstanding drama series. So I I was happy for them because I do love succession are you in a succession person absolutely I love successions so much and it just made me really really happy. I. Think this year especially felt like all the old players have left from the previous years that were continuously winning the awards so like modern. Family couldn't beat Jakes creek this year, and then like game of thrones gone, and so it was great to see these two great shits creek in succession come in there and when the awards I will say I'm really really sad that Kieran Culkin did not win for his role in succession. He's just like such a weird character and he plays it. So perfectly weird and Swami, and so I would've liked to have seen him when that too. But we can't have everything I'm glad about successions wins the EMMYS HAVE A. Way Sometimes of pudding dramatic shows in the comedy category where you have like nurse Jackie will get nominated for best comedy and so having a show that is just kind of universally recognized as really fun. Win Best Drama when so many TV dramas are incredibly heavy and and really dark dark grim grim grim having a show that people just had a blast watching best drama. Made me really happy. Yeah and one of the things I love is you know I think in the supporting actor category which which as you mentioned. is where Kieran Culkin was nominated as well as two other actors for Succession Matthew McFadden who plays Tom Ganz. The best name may be an television 'cause so awkward but also Nicholas Braun who plays cousin, Greg those performances, all three of those performances to me are largely comedic performances on drama Culkin. I think a little less soak in a little more evenly split. Those are all strongly comedic performances on drama. I do think they split the vote but the winner there was billy crude up in the morning show. The one. Really to me really really good thing in the morning show if you're going to give an emmy to the morning show, this is the one. I legitimately thought he was really good in that. He played this sleazy but like in some ways, maybe not that sleazy, maybe just honest kind of executive sleazy and shrewd. Jesus. He's the only person on that show. I was consistently interested in I. Give Big props for that. I'M NOT GONNA lie I wasn't surprised again I'm sad about all the people who didn't win, but it's a very easy performance for me to defend. Now, I do want to talk about Zendaya who won four euphoria and we are told youngest winner ever in this category gave a very nice speech in which she acknowledged young activists. I know this is like a really weird time to be celebrating. But. I just want to see there is hope in in the young people out there I know that our TV show doesn't always feel like a great example of that but there is hoping the young people and I just want to say to my peers out there doing the work in the streets. See You I. Admire You I. Thank you. Thank you so much. This is okay. Thank you. I have not seen you for you. I have to admit I think, I watched an episode of it maybe two episodes of it but I have definitely not finished it I. Am I missing a lot with her performance in euphoria she is probably the one of the few good things about that. I really did not like that show, but I think she gives such a grounded performance for character who could be easily overplayed and overwrought and she's just really bad words feel like filler words but I feel like magnetic is is something that describes her performance it's just very much drawn to her and you never quite know you know how she's GonNa react and what she's going to do and so yeah, I was very, very pleased to see her when that even though you for is not a good show. In. My. There was a weird loose charm like all of the Shit's creek people being kind of together in masks in this very Canadian feeling like warm party was great. There was also a little fires everywhere party. There was a watchman party and Damon Lindelof was careful to say like we all got tested and some people like Regina King was just chilling on her couch. People would like react in different ways when they presented the emmy to John Oliver because last week tonight one for variety talk show they had set up a thing where like when he won, it's sort of like blue open a thing with the statue in it reset up boxes it was. Strange and he like legitimately jumped. I thought it was maybe a call out to lake gender reveal parties. have. Been People like Sarah Snook from succession who by the way is also awesome. She plays Chev I love him such a fan of her. She had a like an aluminum wheel replica emmy at the very end that I assume someone had made for her I'm not a fan of sketches or like little banter before show I think or before nominations or whatever because it just seems very stage but I did appreciate Jennifer Aniston trying and failing three times to to extinguish the fire I'm swimming it just Yeah, just seeing her to explain they've in case you didn't see it basically Jimmy Kimmel. The first word of the night he presented and like I lit on fire the envelope and sprayed it with a disinfectant and all this other stuff. It was all part of like cleaning it right right and then Jennifer Aniston was trying to extinguish it and it took a few tries to.

"Percent here viewership to good NFL games. You got to be producing a product where there's loyalty in growth or at least consistency and so does moving the show later helped them from time slot standpoint, maybe take less of a hit and if they can, if the ratings can rebound outside of primetime we're pop TV feels good. Like, okay, we've got our prime time shows that we're doing our usual numbers on, but now we're doing much better at the end of prime time from ten to eleven, and then an hour later and the numbers are better or better than way better than what we would be doing. Can. Be a positive move for impact that maybe ends up leading to them moving back into print after NFL season Earlier Prime. Could it conceivably sure. I. Your banking on the football games being terrible. Oftentimes, Thursday night games have been over the years, but because it the games are still going. It's not like they're avoiding football completely. There. You know, they'll get a surge probably when the games end I but that's and that's out of primetime. I think there's a misconception with some that, like it's still a barter deal. It's not at minor standing as impact is paid one million dollars a year by pop TV, and I just wanted to pop TV is looking at this going. We don't need to. It's it's not a huge expense, but it's one we don't need any more in a, why are we doing this when the show's doing these kinds of numbers because they could just as easily go, we're moving the show to Wednesday's. It's not like pop, I, I don't know what they are Wednesdays days, but I mean, you look at what the replacing impact with and it's reruns of the Gilmore girls. You know, this isn't a network that has this loaded primetime lineup or anything like that. Basically they have the goldbergs the young. Restless and that's about it. And the great shits creek when you know that they get from pickup from Canada when that's in season, but I, it's, it's so it's not like there's a lot going on that network..
