"Is premiership looking close to imploding and it firings, resignations, and allegations of bullying in the House of Commons. Tessa shares slide after hours as the company reports says short of Wall Street's estimates citing delivery and production bottlenecks put in a Musk promises an epic end of the year. And a national bank of Kuwait beats on third quarter net income with a foot 5% year on year gain. We speak this hour to the deputy CEO. Just got any of them across the other time using Mena Dina Dubai. And I'm an Israeli red alongside you. The Sex Pistols had anarchy in the UK. I didn't listen to that. I did. There's anarchy. There's political chaos chassis is the Irish word in the UK. The pine is taking the brunt of what is literally anarchy in the Tory party, a new Home Secretary who lobbies actively against Liz trusts the prime minister. The chief resigned, no she didn't. She still let labor saw members being physically manhandled in the House of Commons. What do you do with a pine? Do you think that it goes down? Do you think the Bank of England rate hikes will save you the hedge you say great hill capital in New York in the next one to three years, this currency will rally, but in the meantime, it is as chaotic as it was under George Soros tenure to break the point. Now, what's going to happen in terms of who takes the strain of anarchy in the political landscape? Will it be the bond market, which has yet to open to this cacophony of catastrophe and misgiving in the Palace of Westminster. So the Bank of England at the long end, of course, doesn't intervene. They're not selling long dead at guilt. We're back below 4%. But here we are at the mid part of the curve. How will the bond market react to the political chaos and crisis? That is evident for everybody to see. The question is, does the bond market pay the price? I take it from the drama in the UK to stocks that slum them into spike and bond yields, not even bright spots and earnings, including Netflix, was able to move the needle here. You have a note out from Morgan Stanley, they're calling the rally earlier this week. A roller coaster to nowhere, a very impatient market. They want 2022 losses to be done with. But the reality is when you look at the third quarter earnings, you saw a lot of tailwind from the previous part of the year, so you don't get a true picture of some of the depths of the pain that should be out there. In the meantime, I want to get to the Tesla earnings in a bit more detail because third quarter revenue rose to $21.5 billion compared with analyst projections of 22.1 billion. So that is a slight miss. They cited delivery and production bottlenecks. They're seeing some easing of components shortages though. A key headline from his statement, knock on wood. It looks like we'll have an epic end of year. I mean, shares did fall dramatically post market down as much as 5%. You have to climb 37% so far this year. I want to check in on the energy markets as well. Not a day goes by without some new update. This time, again, the U.S. president Joe Biden scolding some of the U.S. companies are saying, don't pay out dividends. Don't buy back shares. This is a time where you need to rally with the rest of the country in terms of pushing back against Ukraine. And so he expects them to move into line. The U.S. also has only 25 days of diesel supplies left. It's a real headache for this administration as we count down to the midterms. Let's check in on the first word headlines now in a bit to actually first we go to Juliet solly for the markets updates in Asia, Jules. Hey, Joseph, what we are down again today. In fact, we've only had two sessions of gains in the past ten in Asia. We're watching very closely as well what's been happening in those tech players in Hong Kong in the last ten minutes or so, some breaking news that China is holding emergency talks with chip firms after those U.S. curbs so we'll watch the movement in the hang seng tech index, which was already down by about three and a half percent heading into the lunch break in the afternoon session too, but more broadly it is those tech players weighing on the overall hang seng index two. It is set for its lowest close since 2009 a drop there of two and a half percent to we've also seen more pressure coming through from the Aussie dollar, a bit of validation from the abbe's smaller rate hike, though given that we only saw about 900 jobs created in the economy versus a forecast of 25,000. And of course we remain on intervention watch with the dollar strengthening against the yandere and getting very close to one 50. Let's have a look as well at what we're seeing with Japanese yields because again we saw the testing patients of that .25% target that the BOJ is comfortable with. And that triggered an unscheduled bond buying operation, the BOJ now planning to buy $1.7 billion of bonds ranging from 5 years to longer dated debt and has separately offered to purchase an unlimited quantity of ten year notes at a yield of .25%. So on that yen intervention watch and of course watching those yields ratchet high there to yourself. Yeah, more momentum in some of these bond markets. Jules, thank you for highlighting that. That's truly a solid. They will check back in with you later on in the show. Let's get to the St. Louis fed president James bullard because he says he sees an end to the front loading of aggressive hikes by early next year and a shift to keeping policy restrictive with small adjustments as inflation cools. A word data dependent and we're watching the data, I think we're predicting, or at least the dot plot is predicting that inflation will come down. It will be a disinflationary year in 2023. The median dots do call for further moves in 2023. So if you take that as the committee sentiment, there could be a decision to move that into 2022 at the December meeting

Joseph $1.7 billion Hong Kong New York $21.5 billion Asia Liz December 2023 ten year 5 years George Soros UK .25% 22.1 billion Tesla two sessions 37% Musk James bullard

"They're like, what's that? And I explained to him what it was and they were like, what really? Like once you know what it is, it's incredible, but I don't know how like if people are that. Obviously they throw the two week or the 30 day subscription card in with every box. But I feel like if they, once you know what it is, you can't say no to it, right? So Microsoft just needs to make sure that everyone knows what it is. Yeah, and they're trying to spread that good word, Gary. They're trying to get out and spread that good word as we speak. Number two in the roper report. Go media. That's how you say it, right? Or is it G slash? I heard a lot of people say go, right? Go media. Is on strike. Of course, this is the staffs of kotaku. Actually, I'll read from Steve and totila's tweet that went up about this and then we'll go to a variety article, but go media at the staffs of kotaku, gizmodo, Jalopnik. Jezebel lifehacker in the root have gone on strike, management failed to offer new contract as the old one expired last night, solidarity with everybody there. Again, that's Stephen totilo axios formally from kotaku. Kevin, I put the tweet there if you want to click on it and get that because it also then has a little layout graph of what's going on from the go media site. But we'll jump to Todd Spangler over at variety dot com who writes. Member of a union representing about 100 editorial staffs at go media publications, including jezebel the root life hacker kotaku, and gizmodo have gone on strike after its contract with the company expired Monday at midnight. Gizmodo media group union organized with the Writers Guild of America east unanimously approved the strike parentheses with 93% of members voting. After the union's second contract expired, February 28th. Members of the GMG union began picketing outside go media's offices. On Tuesday. In a statement, the GMG union said, quote, in 2015, this union broke new ground when it organized the first digital media union. Now GMG union will break ground yet again. We are the first digital media shop to go on in open and strike for a fair contract end quote. The GMG union said it has engaged in good faith negotiations with go media since late January. Quote, at every step, go media has slowed down the process with a lack of preparedness installing tactics it said. The union is asking go media to maintain its cap on healthcare costs, guarantee minimum wage increases, add trans inclusive health coverage, parentheses compliant with world professional association for transgender health guidelines and maintain Prudential leave benefits. The union comprises roughly 100 reporters, editors, artists, podcasters, social media specialists and videographers. In a memo sent Tuesday to go media staff CEO Jim spanfeller wrote that he was, quote, disappointed we can not come to terms on the current GMG union contract. We bargained good faith right up until the deadline late last night when the union voted to cut off talks and strike. Span feller claimed that the terms go media offered the union were quote not only equivalent to, but in some instances better than terms agreed to buy the onion union GMG's sister union here at go just one year ago. We are struggling to understand why terms agreed to by half the editorial union members last year are not acceptable to the other half now, span fellow wrote the memo. Unfortunately, efforts go media in an untenable position with regard to these current negotiations. Go media go media was formed in 2019 after Univision sold gizmodo media group and the onion to private equity firm, great hill partners and span feller. Who owns a minority stake in the company. Univision had in 2016 bought several assets of gawker media in a bankruptcy auction, which didn't include gawker dot com owned by bustle digital group. The union posted photos of the PICC line Tuesday on social media. Gary? You and I, of course, are both incredibly pro union. We want the people making our stuff to be taken care of. I think what I've read through Kevin still has an upgrade job cabin, then of course what we summarized here from what the union is looking for, especially the trans inclusive healthcare coverage and things of that nature. Sounds great and should be an easy win. And so obviously you might be like, all right, we spent a lot of time on something that isn't about video games, right? But it is about video game reporting. I do think we don't talk about it enough that, of course, out today is always pulled from Zach over kotaku. Zach zois over there goes out today on his thing every week this week in games. We pull it, we use it. We use it daily over here to make this show for you guys. Zack's been on the show and hosting the stuff and I know blessings talked about it before. But this is the kind of thing of like, if you like video game journalism stuff, you need to take care of the people making it. But at a broader stroke, where are you at with this union one? Greg, I'm a union man. I'm a proud member of the Writers Guild of America west. Which is actually not which is not the same as the Writers Guild of America east, which is affiliated with this strike action. But I'm not going to go on another rant. I've done it before. I'm a big union guy, come from the UK, which is a big union culture there. And unions are really important. They're going to be part of the backbone of our society in many ways and collective action collective bargaining is really the only way for the little guy to be protected against the kind of malpractice and exploitive employment practices that we see these major corporations and fucking like private equity. Private equity funds they can't be trusted to be a good custodians of media outlets or they're just commodities there. Or they care about is making money. That part of it's really depressing, but as much as you never want to see anyone on go out on strike because it's hard for it's hard for everyone, right when you're out on strike. But I've been on strike. I've been on a picket line. I remember when the Writers Guild strikes many years ago. And it's tough for everyone. You can't work. You can't make money. You know, a lot of people end up losing their jobs, you get scabs and picket line crosses and things like that. It's all very, very unpleasant. You only strike if you really need to. So I trust that this union didn't take the strike action lightly, striking is a weapon of last resort, but all of their asks sound perfectly reasonable. I wish them the best, and I hope I hope they hope they succeed in getting what they want..

"Made is the official podcast documenting the making of don't look up. The new film now on Netflix. Out now, on Apple, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. Okay, Tony, we did the easy part. Disagree with us, but we did the easy part. So of course, you're on the clock. It's the Sacramento Kings. And I just want to share an anecdote here. We got to start and maybe I've got a little bit of something against the kings because I'm from Kansas City and they left years ago and went to Sacramento. But we're looking at 16th year in a row missing the playoffs right now. And I had a general manager tell me that before the season, the kings front office thought that not only were they a playoff team this year, they thought they were a contending team this year and were upset that the prognosticators whoever those are that do the preseason rankings did not have them in the top four in the west wow. The delusions run deep. In Sacramento, it's been a disaster. They've actually drafted okay, tyrese Halliburton, dear and Fox, Davey and Mitchell coming off the bench, defensively, with a little bit of a surprise. You know, Harrison Barnes is good. There's talent there. Again, I think this is a team that we probably see very active at the trade deadline. I'm not sure whatever team's team we're looking at right now. It will not be a Sacramento king pass. Buddy hill Marvin Bagley is another guy. Maybe even Harrison Barnes. We might see gone towards the trade deadline. They're desperate to make the playoffs. So maybe they won't end up at 5, but I'm questioning whether they're going to make the playoffs this year. But if they're at 5, we've talked about the four consensus guys and I think for most people, those are the four consensus guys. So blank slate, Tony, who's your guy in Sacramento at 5? You see me rubbing my hands together, right? 'cause this is where I usually drama. This is why I usually drop a bomb. So you ready for this? I'm so excited. Who's the next great hill, Tony? I'm taking Kindle Brown. Okay, that's not it. That's not a big reason. But he wasn't even on the board before this year. Yeah. You're right. You're right. He's having a great freshman breakout year. Tell us why Kendall Brown. I actually really like this pick for a second. Okay. 6 foot 9 two O 5, two way wing. Those do not grow on trees, right? It's the reason why if you're the Chicago Bulls you hang up if the Detroit Pistons ask you for Patrick Williams, like you say, thanks for no thanks. Take Kobe white. And we'll give you two first round picks and you give me Jeremy grant. But I am not giving you Patrick quince, right? Okay. Isaac a coral can not shoot a lick, okay? But he is making a difference in Cleveland. Just off of his sheer athleticism and his ability to defend, right? His ability to cut. He's actually a really good cutter. So he cuts really well. I get to the basket. He defends. He's got an NBA body. Lamar Stevens. Can't shoot a lick. But he is making a difference because he can defend and he does the right things offensively and he plays off of guys. So what is the lesson here, fellas? That ladies and gentlemen, you can never have enough wings who can defend who are athletic and Kimball Brown from my money is a better prospect at the same stage than Isaac or crawl because he's shown his jump shot is not consistent yet, but he has shown up his jump shot has upside and he's a better score than people realize. And he's a very, very good. Good passer, too, actually. Really great feel for the game. That's actually one thing that really pops for him. Yeah. Pops off the screen for me. I'm a big bet Kendall Brown fan. I was thinking about Johnny Davis, just because of how good he's been this year. And because for me, Johnny Davis doesn't have a lot of weakness in his game. But, you know, I mean, I cover a team right now in the Utah Jazz that could use Kendall Brown. Perfect, yeah. Or you turn Jones or use Jaden McDaniels. You know, you just get those guys with length and athleticism. And if they have a feel for the game, they shoot right up to the top of the board, almost instantaneously, and you see it every year. We've seen this for a couple of years running two years ago, it was Isaac crawl. And Patrick Williams. Scotty Barnes last year, Devon vasel like the year before that. You know, you get any of those guys 6 6 to 6 9 who are athletic, who can shoot the ball, can handle the ball can defend. Those guys are going to the top of the board. So I'm taking Kevin Brown number 5. Can totally live with that. I agree with everything that you said about him right now. I would have taken him 6. To San Antonio, and I think he's a San Antonio player all the way, but I like him in Sacramento for the fact too that this is a terrible defensive team. They start to turn the corner with Davey and Mitchell. In the draft and adding him to the mix, certainly I like that. There is one wing that I like better. And this is a little bit of a risk, but AJ Griffin out of duke is a guy that the more I watch him, the more he reminds me of a young Jimmy Butler. NBA body really tough kid is shot the lights out in duke, which is the one thing that I think gives him a little bit of an advantage over Kindle. But I think Kendall brown's a little twitchier of an athlete and has got the size. Advantage over AJ, but the shooting definitely, I think goes in Griffin's favor. He's only going to be 18 and a little bit over 18 and a half on draft night. And I think this is one of those cases where because of injuries and high school, the last couple of years and then he misses pro day for duke with yet another injury, kind of fell off scouts, radar screens a little bit, but now that he's starting to get consistent minutes, he's moved back into duke's starting lineup right now. And he's never going to be the focal point of that team with Paulo Ben Caro and all the weapons that they have at duke. But he's another guy kind of like Kendall Brown, he pops whenever he's on the floor. And I really love him. And I think these guys to me are kind of like 5 and 6. On my board. So you'll take Kendall brown 5, I'll take AJ Griffin 6. I may have switched the order on interesting what you think about AJ.

Kendall brown Sacramento Harrison Barnes Patrick Williams Tony tyrese Halliburton Johnny Davis Buddy hill Marvin Bagley kings Kindle Brown Kobe white Jeremy grant Patrick quince Sacramento Kings Davey Lamar Stevens Spotify Kimball Brown Isaac

"And we are seeing several Asian nations changing their trouble plan agendas it backs to has all the global news edge All right thank you very much Julia you're right Japan is efficient It will close its borders to new foreign arrivals from today and to have its own citizens isolate on arrival from countries where oma cron is detected The entry band does not apply to foreigners already residing in the country Hong Kong has expanded its travel ban to Angola Ethiopia Nigeria and zombie from today also tightening travel restrictions for visitors from Belgium and Germany and effective Thursday and non Hong Kong residents have stayed in these countries will have the last 21 days will not be allowed to enter Hong Kong Australia postponing plans to relax border restrictions this by at least two weeks This New South Wales reporting over the weekend that two travelers from South Africa to Sydney were infected by omicron asymptomatic another two yesterday So the delay until December 15th to give authorities they say time to gather more information to better understand the variant In the U.S. president Joe Biden this variant is a cause for concern not a cause for panic and says travel bans are not punishment but by time The reason for their media travel ban is there were a significant number of cases on like any other country to other few around South Africa in the world We needed time to give people an opportunity to say get that vaccination now before it has a move around the world That is encouraging all Americans to wear masks indoors again As for vaccination doctor adalja at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg health says mRNA vaccines at this point are affected If people don't want to take the vaccine if people actively shun this great piece of technology that approves their lives it's going to be very difficult Indeed it's not surprising to me that this variant was discovered in a place where vaccination rates are 25% And that is a case of the epicenter in South Africa The CEO of Pfizer Albert bourla on Bloomberg says a very it can be contained We have been preparing for a moment like that for months right now And I feel comfortable that the playbook will work So what is the playbook Why did this understand more about this virus The second of course we're big Protect And he says if the vaccines need to be tweaked can be done in 100 days or less The reports so far are that oma karon is apparently far more transmissible but symptoms appear to be mild so far the fear without vaccinations more people who are infected allow the virus to mutate In San Francisco I met Baxter this is Bloomberg our brain All right thank you very much The time is 8 minutes past the hour Let's get to our guest It's Thomas Hayes chairman of great hill capital with this for a great discussion So Thomas before this coronavirus new variant on the hit inflation was really the sort of front burner issue for investors Let's talk a little bit about inflation This omicron do you think it makes inflation worse Because of additional bottlenecks in supply chains or better because business was slow and retailers will have to cut prices to generate business Well you don't want business to slow Brian That would be a big problem if you started to see factory shutdowns in Vietnam and the reemergence of the supply chain bottlenecks that are now started to get work through You have the two components You have the supply chain that we're hopeful is temporary and we're hopeful that this will be another variant that is just another blip that will power through But then you have wages which were happening before omicron and that are sticky So we are going to have above trend inflation But that's not necessarily a bad thing I do think these supply chain bottlenecks and omicron will work through that over the next three to 6 to 9 months That part will stop going up but wages are going to remain elevated and give us above trend inflation for some time And that's apparent in 5 year break evens The very nature of a pandemic is that the virus mutates and we see new variants Why has there been such a reaction to this You know that's a great question Juliet we came into the bad news on Friday morning here in the U.S. The market was a little bit overbought a little bit frothy but you also saw among retail investors cash holdings fell to 46% of margin balances That was the lowest reading back to 1997 So I think what you saw on Friday is a ton of retail what they call stop loss orders were taken out during the shortened trading session and the vix hit 28 which over the past 6 months has been the level where the market bottomed and bounced multiple times So I think it was just a positioning and a surprise news and a lot of professionals were not at their desks on Friday Yeah That might be true I'd like to say you're right but I think policymakers politicians are overreacting Well I don't know if they're overreacting They are reacting very strongly just like the markets reacted very strongly So it's not just a market story Let's hope that we know so much more in a week or two that we can make the right policy Bloomberg economics is actually predicting a doubling of the pace of tapering for the fed at the December meeting even with the omicron variant I'm curious and that could allow for rights to go up as soon as March I'm curious whether you think that's urgent and needed Well we have Thomas Hayes with us but we might have lost him for a moment there Let's see if we can get.

"Pregnancies on your argument. Say that again are men responsible at all. Unwanted pregnancy does just the woman's faults. Yep probably right so then. Shouldn't the laws also enforce something on them. Then it's this is such an epidemic that you call it genocide because you have a new being created so we should allow women empty vessels so mentioned not be involved in making decisions for wins healthcare. Right correct so then you think rovers as a mistake because it was seven men that made that decision so we should repeal. The men shouldn't dare make decisions for women. No you could have rover everybody then. Seven men made a decision. There's authentic men that don't have all. I thought you said we should make decisions for women. Seven men everybody. Automobile roe versus who irene court. We have empowered. Trust women just scoffed at laws. The second ago go but you seem to be a man of la typically and so typically. What's the worst protects abortion. What was passed by congress. Okay once they get. Let me finish statue here. You sit ever view. Those seven medalists court were able to have empathy and realize they don't know what woman goes through to give birth and how it affects every part of their life going forward and so they realized that the government something here typically in favor of small limited government not infringing on people's liberties or lives and shooting onboard infringe. On now they decided. They decided in the and protected by the constitution. The color i can just say to a then. Second amendment is incorrectly we can do any regulation. Say that all the time so the clerk. Frank good send that roe versus wade is intellectually suspect con the most intellectually suspect constitutional decisions in modern era the clerk for justice blackmun. Who wrote the opinion for roe versus wade. The seventy two decision that allowed six hundred million dissenting opinion justice. Blackman was the majority opinion. Okay clerked for justice department. Who said it was one of the most intellectually suspect constitutional decision an era when did congress rates one. Time said i was an asshole. That doesn't make it the lobby. We'll come up no no form on a second. Do we make law through congress or through decision to the courts. Do we make law through congress or decision. The courts yes. Congress makes la so the courts decide whether to uphold. It were not. When did congress ever make a law abortion. Congress never made a lot also outlying abortion legalize it both ways charlie. When did they ever make it. Not legal. actually. A lot of states had abortion banned till the federal government. So what is the tenth amendment saved. Them what does it tend to amendment says that anything not delegated to congress left to the states and the people But but this was decided yet by by a group of unelected seven men who should make decision. Okay we have percents overturn whenever said today to decide things that have their own independent abortion banned. You're obviously saying there because obviously this honcker decisions for the country if there is such a mandate what's the law that allows abortion not supreme court decision. What's the law charlie. The supreme court decides on court cases and they decide whether it is constitutional or not and backed up by the constitution. That you and i both hold so dear right so they they codifies our. It's a decision that's correct and you can't. You can't scoff it cream court decision. It's not been say that. Then the texas laws not allow. We're gonna hopefully overturn roe versus wade through the texas law. The point is that it was passed by congress. Great lunch trans women to have babies. They don't want aren't ready for. Let me ask a question. Babies from raise babies from abuse. Oh great hill to die then. It sure you don't want aside one percent of all women. Are you have to listen to this. I rape aside. Typically it is one percent so that's millions of question. How do these other women get pregnant. Then ninety nine you know explain sixty. I know you're newly married. They made a man in love each other. They made a decision and then they want to terminate and murder that child committed because the one million people having abortions every single year so why why all of a sudden they are oftentimes with terminating human. Live not decisions because they had a consensual relationship hope for twenty five percent white that would be really hypocritically. Tall abortions in this country are done at economic convenience. Do you think that's okay. economic conveniences. Such a stupid backwards low. I q phrase for you to use economic convenience. What you actually need is. They cannot possibly afford the million dollars. It will take to raise a child that you can afford. Because he was born into privilege and they weren't but you're so privilege you also want to force them to have a baby and then vote against legislate in the average social welfare benefits for somebody annually with child. What's the number of it. What's the annual. I don't know fifty five thousand a year that times. Eighteen times eighteen years I don't know roughly a half million dollars right around seven hundred thousand dollars just about what it costs to raise a child. There's plenty of social welfare benefits place. So don't give me this idea because tussling every dollar that goes to that every year that here's the you'd is increasing this funding. You vote against paid maternity. Leave you push against paid maternity and paternity leave. You push against helping you increasing prenatal care. You push against making sure that there's more support for hoping lamaze these let me clarify only want to force people to have babies they don't want and you don't actually care about it because you've proven time and time again here that you don't even know exactly. What the baby is you said with your own words that it's not a life until it's more never had a chance to exist. You only want to do it to get more followers and to be able to keep your followers on a hook because the anti choice movement never even used to be an issue conservatives cared about pre roe v wade it was about segregating schools. That was the big issue that was the conservative movement hung their hat on your own once. I'm making great points all over the place. You're damn right. And so once. "One million hard copies printed people lined up in the rain to get a bit of history. Bloomberg Stephen Engel has reported now that they're down to a skeleton crew because employees had quite a fear of more arrests and fearing for their Freedom Day two of the trial of several men charged under this China security law as well. U K Prime Minister Boris Johnson today marking the five year anniversary of the vote to Brexit, saying that U K is indeed established its independence from outside influence. US. FBI Director Christopher Wray in front of the Senate Appropriations committed today, says the agency strategy to stop Iran somewhere is working. Europe is getting a fresh warning about safety and getting people vaccinated. The Delta variant spreads UK reports most cases since the start of February in San Francisco. I'm Ed Baxter. This is Bloomberg. Alright, Paul back to you. All right, thanks very much. Said we're joined this half hour by Thomas Hayes, his chairman of Great Hill Capital, and Thomas. We did have to catch you off on your thought. A little earlier, you were talking about Alibaba, saying it's down for three key reasons. I wondered if you Care to expand on those? Yes, Chinese stocks at the whole, the whole basket really got hit several months back for a few reasons. First and foremost, was the arcade Goes Family office to Bill Wang Blow up there was an unwind of about 100 billion notional of Chinese stocks. And the ones in his portfolio. Baidu VIP shops Gsx Tencent Music entertainment were hit but also the ones that weren't in his portfolio. Like Baba JD X. Paying the entire group was hit with this unwind, which took many months with the prime brokers unwinding their hedges and their positions. The second thing is obviously the Chinese government regulation and crackdown. We saw $2.8 billion fine. Anti monopoly. Find to Alibaba. We saw a crackdown on the live streamers on the education providers. We saw a delay of the ant financial Ip I P o, uh And then, finally, of course, was inflation fears. So you saw the same with attack and yield sensitive groups in the United States with the 10 year yield went up from 100 basis points to 175 basis points within a period of six weeks earlier in the year. Attack and Chinese tech all sold off because long duration earnings became less valuable with with the fear of a higher discount rate. Now, Alibaba is a unique situation certainly best in class. If you look back since its IPO, it's traded at an average PE of 28 times. If you look forward to next year's earnings, it's trading.

"Paul That's right. The last hard copies have rolled off the presses are in residents hands, Bloomberg, Stephen Engel says larger, much larger than normal run. Last circulation of up to a million copies have been distributed in the early hours of this morning. Normally, the daily circulation is about 86,000. So they printed About a million. Yes, Stephen says there have been threats of more arrests, and more employees had resigned for fear of arrest. Stephen says only a skeleton crew there at the end, Another columnist for Apple Daily had been arrested on the national security law. Police only saying. 55 year old man who writes under the name leaping for allegedly colluding with foreign forces to endanger national security Now, Lee writes. Basically, social commentary has been thought of as not one of the most outspoken columnists. Sydney, Australia Looking at another potential lockdown Now Paul is in Sydney. Paul, this is the is the Delta very. And is that right? Yeah, That's right. And that's why people are getting so worried. 31 cases doesn't sound like a lot, but we were at zero for a very long time up until just a few days ago, so there was one particularly chilling story. Of one person who was positive, giving the virus to someone else simply by walking past them in a mall. That moment was captured on CCTV. So it does underscore just how transmissible this is. And the news this morning. We've got the agriculture minister for the state now testing positive the health minister in isolation. So we are anticipating another spike in cases today and the premier Hattiesburg directly and saying Well, lockdown could be on the cards. Yeah, and they're already some measures. Yeah, That's right. Seven local government areas, including the city of Sydney, where the Bloomberg office is and where I live as well not allowed to leave the Metropolitan area states have all slammed their borders shut. The travel bubble between New Zealand and New South Wales has been suspended and it emerged that a traveller from Sydney went to New Zealand and tested positive upon their returns. So New Zealand's covid free status potentially at risk from all of this as well. All right, Paul. Thank you. U. S President Joe Biden Attorney General Merrick Garland are announcing new programs to fight gun violence, Garland says, starting with gun dealers who did not conduct business in a lawful way by failing to conduct required background checks. Falsifying records, failing to respond to trace requests, refusing to permit ATF to conduct inspections or transferring firearms to persons who are prohibited from owning them. And Garland also says a crack down on trafficking with ATF and local government partnerships, President Biden says localities will be able to use money from the American Rescue Plan. Cities experience an increase in gun violence. Able to use the American rescue plan dollars to hire police officers needed for community policing and to pay their overtime. Now, Biden says, mental health issues have to be taken care of. He also says he has not given up on an assault weapon ban. California Secretary of State says the recall election exercise of Governor Gavin Newsom can proceed. This had been expected and more of Aryan Delta Varian who's here. Europe getting a fresh warning about safety and getting people vaccinated as a Delta variant spreads UK reports most cases since the start of February and in the U. S. The state of Missouri has become the canary in the coal mine or if you prefer The crash test dummy for not getting vaccinated, the vaccination rate under 49% and cases jumping as well as hospitalizations and ICU admissions. The the Delta Variant is now dominant scene in 1/5 of US cases in San Francisco. I'm Ed Baxter. This is Bloomberg. Brian. All right. Thanks very much. Ed. Eight minutes past the hour. Let's get to our guest. Thomas Hayes, chairman of Great Hill Capital, Thomas. A lot has happened in the past week as it relates to markets Yet we have the Vicks down today to the Mid teens. Is this a time for you to get aggressive or to sort of stick with your knitting? Well, it depends on the sector. Brian what we saw yesterday. Despite all the hawkishness coming from Bullard, Kaplan, Bostick and Rosen Grand Powell is driving the bus and he's got the pedal to the metal. He's basically said Inflation is transitory. Due to basic facts. It's due to short term supply bottlenecks and the downturn disproportionately hurt low wage workers. So what does that mean of the dual mandate, stable prices and full employment? He's going for full employment, and he has perfect cover to do that. Why? Because last year before the pandemic, the unemployment rate was 3.5%. Now it's 5.8% and they're still 9.3 million people Unemployed. But I think Brian to your point with with the S and P up over 90% off of its pandemic close. It's getting harder and harder to find value. So one of the areas that we've been spending a lot of time on in the last few weeks and building up a core position. Believe it or not in Chinese stocks. Mm. So let's let's return to Chinese stocks at the moment. I just want to get your view on the inflation as transitory is enduring because we've got strong and strengthening oil prices, other commodities rising as well. Eventually this is going to feed through the real world prices and potentially sustained inflation. Yeah, I think Well, two things you're seeing a number of commodities did soften in the last month or so, with the grains with copper. To a lesser extent, oil has been the outlier oils and rising. And I think kind of the black Swan that we should be worry of in coming weeks in coming months is the potentiality of an Iran deal that could knock 5 to $10 off off the price of oil. And you're seeing so much optimism in the oil markets right now, you know, two of our biggest picks last year when no one wanted them. We were going in for banks, which was Wells Fargo. The dirty A shirt in the bunch. And we were going for ExxonMobil because we wanted to stay up high on the quality ladder. And now that these names and these groups are up, you know 75 101 150% in some cases in the cyclicals. Everyone has been forced in. Everyone's excited with oil. Now at $73 a barrel everyone's looking for 100, and I think that's kind of the black Swan that leads us to focus. Coupled with Powell's dovishness to focus on those yields sensitive sectors that have been hit this year and have underperformed this year and we've been trimming back on some of our cyclicals as we've made that move in recent weeks. Quick taster here on your comment about China stocks. You like Alibaba? It's down a lot. Yes. Yeah. I mean, you've seen.

"There was one listing available in circle, See to put it out. Put it straight. Don't want their head of like 4500 home today. One active Steiner, which there's way more homes and Adam that direction many and it's you know, past the ratio. There's two for sale. There's two for sale out that area. The restaurant in Great Hills, which is an amazing area around town, right on their side of 3 60, you know, kind of behind the arboretum there. There are no homes that you could actually put a contract Unless you're put in a backup offer is right, right? And then Alan Dale, where I live, no homes available to put a contract on Wow. And then in Millwood, it kind of describe who will be the biggest well, but it's also different from the ones we just mentioned, because historically, it's a lot less expensive, more affordable in this area, too, right? Turn over some renters and things like that. What is described Millwood for our listeners, and then what? What's happening there? Yes. Oh, it's named, You know, Bill Milburn Kind, was the original builder that named the Subdivision. But, yeah, you know, one more packing Parmer and stretching out up to McNeil. And then even beyond that, um One listing as well or was zero or one That was there was there was one scene away with. You know what? So this is this is I mean, if you go back in time, all of the whole city limits let's let's go. Whole City limits just go well, Bill Miller would break because the property this is the place that you and I were investing in back in those six or 78. And that was like 330,000 back then. Correct. What are they going for now? Hi. Four hundreds and hundreds of dollars last last month. Okay right now could be more down. Okay? Yes, I do the whole scope of it and let me before you do the scope and one of things we talk about is we do the whole Austin Board of Realtors reach right of all the homes they have listed, and it's you know, X amount of counties out there and it actually 18 counties that we're about to talk about. This is what makes it so surprising. Not wanting to Travis Hayes and Williamson County. Which radicals the Big Three here in the Austin area, right. This also includes bathrobe, El Blanco, Burn it, Caldwell Come out Fate. Gweilo Gillespie, Gonzales Land Passes Legal Lando Milon Sand, Sabah. Those were included in this tattoo. It simply homes out in these areas sit for a year, six months. Things like that. You know, there's just a lot slower moving. Yes. So for the whole MLS, That's all those counties. I just mention single family homes detached. There are 1284 actives. Today, and there's how many 6000 and something that are actually under contract. Indeed, 53 70 53 7 single family, So that ratios 70.24. It's great. That's the surprise I wanted. So it's been a few weeks I've been here and I think we were talking about last time. I was here for you even green, Maybe even like high four basically so houses inside the city limits of Austin. There's 267 active listings, so, but it's not like a and probably a lot of those air just went on the market. This'd do you think that the number of listings is going down or they're just turning over so quickly or what, or both? Both. Yeah, That's the problem and what Kevin and I've been talking about is and we asked you before we went on there. What's your number? Sean? Your homeowner in Austin, Texas. And if you sell your house? Yes, you're going to do very well on the appreciation side. But where you gonna live? And so that quandary is a question that a lot of our listeners are dealing with a lot of people cross Austrian dealing with right now. Wow. I've got a lot of appreciation I've built over the last 532 month. Um, you know on this house, but if I sell, I don't can't afford to go anywhere else and unless I go out, but it's some point can't go out either anymore. So I guess you Sean to get those lights going on. But you could go out to say Smithville. Maybe. Maybe Right? Yeah. Look, Okay, Let's call it West Texas somewhere, eh? So what is Shawn's number? I feel like I'm in a disco show. I wanna hit that light switch. What is your number? Sean? And that's what everybody. That's the question that everyone needs to know is when the market is going to turn again, Maybe we get some more inventory. It was when those numbers start being hit where it makes If I could sell my house for 500,000 of butter for 100,000. That's my number. Yeah. Or if your neighbor across the street sold two months ago for 600,000 well, and they have exact same houses that you have, what would you say? If somebody said okay, I'll give you 700 for years. Would you take it or 800? What's your number, Shawn? So think about that, guys. We're gonna take a break. We are taking your calls. You want to know what's going on in your neck of the woods? We're gonna talk about that, and we're going to tell you why it's going to be a major topic. And if you haven't heard you need to keep listening in today, because there is a lot going on here is central Texas, real state And on the flip side of that, Shawn, you're here. Property tax values. The estimates are coming out in March, right sometime around mid March is so they started coming out going to be real interesting. I've saw a report from a local title company that Put some stats together just the other day, showing some areas around town year over year This is in Austin often took out 787 dip codes up 2025% year over year appreciation going to be interesting to see how the city It's a little grabby hands. That's all rights to grab last year. If you recall I did not reappraise property Primary resident They haven't all your residential. Yeah, yes. Oh, they're just waiting to really slap you across the face of this year, right? So, speaking of that, by the way, General 31st deadline to pay, So don't forget to pay your property taxes this and if you bought a house last year, and you've moved into it as of January 1st this year, Make sure you file that homestead exams, right? Does that homestead exemption work after a couple years then they could only raise it. X amount. Yeah, it's like 1%. Yeah, yeah, so important, but after two years, right, So you want to get that clock started by the way getting started because if they don't have that homestead, they could Jack it up whatever they wanted to. So remember, there's a lot of scams out there that could pay to play. You know, they will get this homestead thing Phil for you Could've Travis Williams again. It's actually online. It's free to do very simple. Phone number 51283605 90 That's 512836. 05 90. Kevin, I want to go to you, Um You said something very interesting to me today over a text and you said, I'm misquoting. I'm sure are a paraphrase that we're living in historic times here in Austin, Texas, explained to me and Sean into our listeners. Why, in real estate? This is an historic event that we're witnessing and seeing right now. Yes. Oh, that's a big build up, right? There's a big build up we're witnessing. So I was sharing with you some some data about what things are going under contract for Um, and those will be closing in 2 to 4 weeks right, so that there's a There's a period time you go under contract. After all these minutes. We've been sharing some of these crazy stories about multiple offers and 96 offers on the house and brush your hair or something like that. Yeah, this this This really rash of tightness has kind of kicked in about two weeks ago to a two or three weeks ago on Glee reported on the radio show. You know, we share the stats so that that our listeners have that real time speedometer on what to expect that hot ratio. That's matched. What? What's been experience out there with these like you said 96 offers. I won one last week they had 39 offers. Those those prices air not revealed yet until the closing day happens. So there's a 30 Day delay or 40 Day. What so generally in that range, there's a delay before everybody becomes aware or the Realtors anyway. Become aware Um, that that $275,000 house is really a $350,000 house. And so that that big reveal is coming Not here yet, but we have data that shows what it may. The trend is for sure and what it may look like 45 35 days from now. Well, yes, starting Probably a week from now, I think really, by two weeks from now, you'll start to see some of the mainstream media picking up news on this. But you said, historic for for our listeners out there. That doesn't sound like a historic thing. Oh, well, Property values are going up. That's all fine and dandy here. What is the obviously the underlying causes supply and demand, But that's the historic Aso right and let's Yeah. Or Historic means looking back, and that's why it's okay. So the nature of my message to you is, I think we're living in what will be called a story times there. We could be in the midst of a reset. That's not 20% year over year, it could be a 20% shift in values in 60 days. Wow. So and residential real estate here in the Austin market you're saying because I'm married doesn't stop in some areas. Some of the numbers were saying we could have a 20% shift in value. Over a 60 Day period. It's isn't that crazy even to say out loud. It isn't because you're kind of hesitated when you're saying it, But I talk to you before we're on their right. And you were Pretty solid on and I've seen the data and it Z. Interesting to say the least. And once you share a couple of things that before you get into the overall stats number, talk about some of these big areas around town like Circle. See, Steiner. Great Hills. Millwood. Alan Dale, Right? You know, that probably represents what I mean. Steiner Ranch. Probably 8 9000 homes out there Circle. See 4800 homes. I got a great hills. Probably got enough. 4000. Maybe you know that surrounding area? Yes, I sent you Those examples. You have those number. I do. I do it on the market. Remember when we talk about price appreciation and anything you know, it's just Sean. Is it Z economics Wanna want if you don't have enough supply, But you get tons of demand prices. They're gonna go up and so We looked at these different neighborhoods and so circle see Steiner Ranch Great Hills, Alain Delon Millwood..

"And Facebook, Google and your regular big tech suspects are in the crosshairs of new UK policy to control tech giant's how big a deal is this and how will your social media and search sensibilities be impacted finding out after these tech headlines. Gizmodo media group includes sites such as Gizmodo the onion, jazz, Abell, deadspin and life hacker. So the question you've been asking for months, maybe years what's been lacking? At Google cloud hint. It's a species you'll find in the mirror. It's humans humans, but the new head of Google's cloud business. Thomas Curien aims to end this Google shortcoming. He says to few people cater to enterprise customers. So he simplified contracts for different types of businesses that's opposed to a one size fits all pricing. And he's also moved to move more predictable pricing. And according to the journal, clawing bigger piece of the cloud is crucial for Google to diversify beyond online advertising coming up. London's proposal for a new social media regulator is one of the broadest yet in a larger movement by countries to assert control over tech giant's breaking it all down after this support for this podcast and the following message. Come from Deloitte, a global leader in digital transformation helping clients apply. Technologies like cloud an AI. To their unique business challenges Deloitte, Kat com slash look again. The UK government plans to create a new regulatory body to force the removal of harmful content from the internet one of the most far-reaching legislative proposals from a host of countries. Trying to put a tighter leash on global tech companies. The Wall Street Journal's Kim Gittleson gets more on the story from parmi Olson in our London bureau said talk to me a little bit about your story. What is it that the UK government is proposing and how different is it from other regulations we've seen it's definitely quite bold compared to other regulations that have come out that are similar to this right now. This is just a policy proposal that the government has announced essentially, they are saying that big technology companies hosts social media sites, I Facebook, an alphabet Google should take what they call reasonable and proportionate action on all sorts of potentially harmful content that ends up on their sites. Whether that's. Violent content cyber bullying or disinformation. What we still don't know is actually how they're going to enforce that. How are they going to basically measure success? Like, how do they know? For example, how many videos extremists videos Facebook is taken down in one day. They're kind of relying on Facebook to tell them that information because the only people in the world that no that is Facebook. I mean, how does this compare to other regulations say put on place by these companies? I know it's a new era, and there aren't that many in place? But does this go one step further? We'll there definitely moves afoot from what we've heard in other parts of the world, Germany, France. There seems to be a lot happening in Europe in terms of trying to regulate big tech more. So than in the US, which is kind of ironic, you kind of look to disallow Convalle e is the place where the innovation happens. And then Europe is where they keep it all in check you could say from what we've seen. It does seem like this is. Is the kind of most rigorous and robust attempt actually putting in paper ideas and rules for regulating Toco technology companies in this way, again, it's not to do with data privacy, but just on the content like harmful content. How do you regulate that? And this seems to be the most substantial set of rules that we've seen so far, and why is the British government doing this right now? Surely there other things that British politicians might be paying attention to Brexit comes to mind, why this time in April are they paying attention to this issue. Well, there's been a consultation going for quite some time from what I've heard from speaking to people in the tech industry here for months and months is actually surprisingly enough people who work in the tech industry here. Really like what's happening? They're very impressed with the way the government has the civil service has gone about actually asking questions to the tech industry. I'm sure the same will not be said in Silicon Valley. I'm sure Facebook and Google Twitter. The folks are scratching their heads at this like how on earth are they going to pull this off? What has been the response from Silicon Valley? What is in the fonts from Facebook alphabets Google? It's just been very polite. I don't think anyone really from either of those companies want to go on the record and say, this is like really you expect politicians to regulate something as complicated, as you know, content moderation, which is not only done by humans, and we know tens of thousands of people around the world are helping moderate harmful content, but super complex metrics are used for that artificial intelligence machine learning tools. I mean, it's extremely complicated. I'm would not surprise me. If these companies behind the scenes are actually extremely skeptical of what the government is trying to do. And and don't think particularly highly of it in their comments to us though. They're extremely polite about it. So what happens next the UK is introduced this idea. Where does it go from here? Well, we've been told that they're working on turning it into legislation. So that's going to be quite a few number of weeks out. I'm sure probably months, and then they'll table that. And in the meantime, the minister at least one of the ministers from the what we call the department for culture, media and sport here who was behind this proposal. Jeremy Wright has said that he will be visiting the United States later this year he wants to showcase his proposals. And I suppose hope that the US will use it as a template and other countries as well. How realistic do you think that is will other countries pay attention to this? Well, I think it'd be easy to just dismiss it and say why would anyone pay attention to this? But there's a lot of momentum around regulating or answering the problem of harmful content on social media p people feel that something should be done about it. And when you ask whether tech companies are policing themselves properly. I think a lot of people would say the answer to. That is no more needs to be done. So I would not rule out the possibility that other governments will actually look to the UK and how successful or unsuccessful this country is pulling this off parmi Elson. Thank you so much for speaking. With me.
