That I used to live on neighbors love this time of year because I had a boat I would every time I go out, I dropped four crab pots, go out and fish for coho and Chinook, and come back with salmon fillets. And then you know, you can only eat so many is good as Dungeness crab is you can only eat so much of it. I shell form bring a little baggie. Dungeness all they gotta do. Oh, man, it up. Curious. I got for my family anyway. Crack up giving my in-laws, just sit there and just go to work man. As I gotta ask you, are you one of those dues shells, your crab up and they. Or you eat it as needed as I show? No, we pick maintain our friendship, but my my my inlaws they pay like thirty nine dollars a pound for shelled crab. So when I get a bunch of it, what do you mean? They go to store down to pike place market and by the shell Dungeness crab for forty bucks a pound or whatever it is. It's ridiculous. So when I get a bunch of crap, I could hold crabby say is what you're saying, toll crack out of meat. Yeah, yeah, they do. Do they do good job of picking, or are you still get a little chunks. What do you mean when you buy picked crab? It's pretty clean. Be used still this fragging frag every once in a while. You do get some? Yeah. My kids when they're eating crab cakes and they find chunks shell, they are like pointed out to me. You'll get it. Yeah. It's like getting get an eggshell in an omelette. You don't get any fresh. I never heard about it. You pick a clean gotta hear about it every time I I like to, I don't mind picking a little bit and freezing little vacuum sealed bags of vacuum sealed bags of pit crab. What did I ask you? What someone turned me onto was, and I did an experiment. They said, pick your crab put in a jar and pour milk over Lordos, y por milk over freeze it so freeze in a Mason jar in milk, so froze. Some of that stuff for a year. Just to see in recently. Thought it out drained maze, crab cakes. It was almost as good as if you had. Yeah, really worked variously. We're very well visiting visiting out of town relatives ever. Same thing about guys, freezing spa prong tales. It's hard. I don't like free. They freeze them in milk, like you're saying? Yeah, I'd like to try it because the key to freeze those things is the wash very thoroughly because any that little rust colored gut liquid when you pull his tail off, that's a, I don't think they freeze that well, but I would be interested in trying though to strategy when I get a bunch of those in the freezer I go quick. Yeah, delicious. Goal to quick. Yeah, no, this fish what I'll do. Is all I used to like I used to be down on vac seals. It'd be done in vacuum bags. And I don't know if it's from using a lot of low quality vacuum bags, that'd be down on vacuum bags because I found that so often out vaccines something and then a month later look and it wasn't vaccines anymore. Right? Right. And I think that the bags are bad. The seals gave out what I now realize is that I was treating them too rough digging around the freezer in a braiding. The bags. Or I would be up my fish shack and we vaccines fish, and then I just thought on new cooler. Right, and let it jostle around and check it on the airplane and bring it home. Oh the vacuum. They've lost their seal because what you're doing is like. Bang it around makes holes that stuff. And once I realized that..

"That's exactly right. Like February, if you're a hunting and fishing kind of fellow February. Can be, you know, the dog as there's nothing like you might not be like kicking tons asked lifetime season, and so then you go out there and it's like, wow, well, like a productive fishery in the wetter. But to be there in the summer, it's still fun. You're sorta like, what could be a could be? We could also go sure. It's got a different kind of joy in the wintertime too. Because like you said, it's this desolate hostile place, and here's you get this like bright spot of this fresh fish that you're like, oh man, yes, it's like it's, it's a, it's a little bit of a buzz if you like, having place all yourself. That's a good thing. That's the best time. People look funny and the Fisher can be great. Yeah. In the winter dude should be doing it. Those bigger ones. Tug a little bit. Yeah, they do. Now, you cool on that. I want to get into the world's greatest efficient. It was pretty amazing. Lights out, go along with that so lamb something I never do. I should say that I rarely do, but almost want to do more of because of how much you learn, which is go out with a go on a charter, go out with a guide. And I'm kinda down on it because it's never like not down on it, but it's never as much fun as because you're not solving the problems yourself. Right. And so a lot of what I like about hunting fishing is solving the problem solving and thinking that goes into it and like teamwork. Right. And when you're out of the guy, just kind of you're not catching the fish, if anything you just like hindering the operation? No. Did they would you know that everything you're doing? They would do better and they're the brain behind it. And you just stand there, you know, with your. In your hand. Well, this person's plot and figuring and they've gotten the bait together. They put the plan together, they know what to do and you're like standard doing all right down. Right. Tell me when. Yeah, and you've done nothing. Nothing? Yeah. You haven't even tied your own stuff on someone. People are kinda like, oh, I caught a blankety blank, you know, caught a x. pound blankety blank with a guy like the guide caught it right? Like he'd let you realit- in thing, but it wasn't like your fish. Yeah, in the world is salmon steelhead and the oarsmen in a drift boat. The ornaments usually takes in my opinion, takes credit for most fish and injure. That's putting you on the fish. All he's telling you to do is cast over there. The oarsmen is a guy, exerting the skill, you know, I mean. The thing though with with higher guide, what it does do the positives of it. If you don't have like if it's not readily accessible, it's great for shortening learning curve. Oh, that's why. Yeah. In this case, what's the name of that operation? All river, all rivers, water charters, all rivers and saltwater charters. Yeah. The dues recyled they dialed in. Skipper they made it a good day. We got into what we did during the made it a good day. Is it those guys wanna being like dudes out fish with anyway? Yeah, treated us like dudes like they were good enough actors or. Jen felt this way we're like the the interaction was was. Like everyone on equal footing? Yeah, you know, they're like we clearly like the fit catch fish. They clearly still like to catch fish. I say, still because I imagined someday it goes away when you guide too long. I asked in on the way back in, I was like, what are you doing your spare time? Because I know when you guide a lot, a lot of times you don't fish that much and your spare time and he's like, I go fishing. So. Wave your job. They like to fish, talk about fish. They catch fish. We showed up dress parts. We look like, you know, we got off the plane. Yes, they're probably like, okay, we're not going to be like getting hooks out of people's hands all day long. Maine, was that fun? The whole? So arms tired. You need a vest because we, we went out fishing, twenty miles out. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, but it was so smooth. If you snapped your fingers, it could freeze it solid. You could ice skated on it was. Though much smoother than a baby's bottom..

"And I command or take a couple of pokes through their fish trousers is making living out here selling this meat or something. Sure. So fish trout and come through tecoma pokes guy comes undone. We later had a reckoning in Charlie's bar Missoula Montana. Not at the takeout or you weren't flow? We had a fight. And in those funny because later we wound up. Kind of drink in the Saint place. Now, see him up there. You You know. know, we later had a reckoning and he had an in. If I remember correctly, I feel that he admitted his wrongness. And I might have admitted a little bit of my wrongness for responding and such a strong way to his criticism. But I feel still today feel like if you're have you're eating lunch. In not fishing that you do not have a legitimate claim on the whole, how do you feel about that? Yeah. The guides perspective. It's going to depend a lot of probably on how much pressures on the river, you know. I mean, if you like a river, were you've been waiting for two hours. You haven't seen a person and then you got, you know, all the mid water past their boat. That's kind of like it's like, sounds like this spot you might as well, just skip it and kind of move on as much for your own personal experience. A lot like there is a lot like this spot, actually. I agree with us on this. Really? Yeah, I was in the wrong. I think you were to. I'll always somebody spun. I'm gonna say if it was a busy river mill, then willing around knowing around probably skip that one, Steve, I think if you're in a boat and you're floating down, you're like, okay. You're here. We're going to have lunch. Then we're gonna finish this whole. And if it's a trout stream, you know, you'd count just letting it rest. Maybe a boat went through your letting rest. If you're going to have lunch, they're like, you're kinda claiming that run for a period of time. I think I think at minimum it would have been worth it. Hey, you mind, fish this rats thing. You just got, hey, can I? It's like when you get when you walk up to where you wanna fish, there's a guy in there. Do you mind if I step in really then you're -cation man. The problem solve we're doing about that. Jim, jeez, I don't know your guide. Never guys. Definitely guided timing. No, sir. I probably would have just asked or there's lots of holes I would want. I wouldn't want an audience. I just keep moving, but that's just me what it didn't contest him causing a scene at the same time if he was. Yeah. Reconsider because obviously scarred me because I bring it up. All sounds like this is something from way go. I have ended up my wife yet this how long ago? This was really? Yeah. I mean, they're so there. There's a couple of if this was also a place where you were walking in and then there's a vote. That's true. Is that true? I was walking in and they had about they're in a boat. Hey, I'm a lowly Walker. That's different too because they have the ability to fish this whole century ever. And you're like, man, I just hiked a mile and a half like this is where I was planning factor like, you know, and if that's well known place where people do hike into, never stop there to have much. Sizzle guide, so could be completely very circumstantial, cooling all this. I'm ready to move on tablecloths you got anything at unserved perch because we still need to talk about today, which was lights out the top days. I've ever experienced my entire life to like the most gorgeous day I've ever had on the Washington coast. It is concluding thought on. I, I, I. I would do it again. You know the winter I had so much fun. Anytime I go back out there right now. We have the time. Go make take a few pokes. Let me tell you why it's better than the winter. In my opinion, this is why this is why clam digging is nice. It's a winter spring thing is when you're out there in the winter. It's like you're out there and you're so happy that there's something going on because it's time of year nothing's going on..

"I call them all rocks, but it's not more acts. So anyways, there on the fishing game website, it'll it's really pretty clear and easy to navigate and get through. And they tell you when it's going to be open. The only rig is the only Reagan the world. It's easy. Yeah, seem pretty simple. And it's very user family that part of the red hat for if you don't like to dig razor, clams suck at me. It's like it's just like big. This on this thing qualifying question. You know, I hate it. It's a lot for anything not going to be your friend used to go to the beach. Then the second thing I got into. Was surf, perch, surf, and your Tommy ED's and you're the first guy met those really self identified as a surfer. I like fish there. I man always have these guys, the guys that work with John. I would just say my surf perch mentor. No. Yeah, just always something to do when you were at the coast either digging clams or you know, we'd run out to the coast like me, Tony discussed yesterday, we'd run out the coast fishing, salmon or steelhead and all the rivers punched. What are we gonna? Do we go catch boat. We're look at school full the surfer, you know razor, certain go fish, surf perch or surf perch redo. I discovered the combo because surf perch open year, no closed season, fifteen surf perch today, and it's they're always there. Yeah. Like I've never had a day where I know yesterday was yesterday was pretty sucky. We're not thought. I thought it was below par. It was below of what I expected, but it wasn't poor by any means we came. We came out and serve perched on Christmas Eve, something like that. No. And I thought that would be twenty third of December twenty third Semper and I thought we'd come out and it would just be like salaciously nasty, which it was cold. I remember that walked out there day Day to. two. Windy and you walk out and it's like the most like unforgiving atmosphere where it's just like pounding, serve salt, spray, cold. Like why? What self respecting fish would possibly be in that churning. Froth. Yeah. And you go down there and hook out. Goal saying, what are gulps and wherever I was through some through some razor clam next that morning, I, I was saying they work squid or raise rate resolution with bait like that. Is you end up getting crabs to in the crabs will just pick it your stuff? Yeah, because you do you say. Crafts on pull them in the gulps work really well to flick out into that churning. Godforsaken. Froth and fish. Yup. Thought that that, yeah, that's how the hick knocking on the door was music. The big ones are just like a little miniature take on your hand. They just kinda hit it and don't you know they grab it, turn away. I got the bait there. I've only ever used one thing for bait, really because it stays on you hook. I've experienced with all kinds of stuff. What's the bags say. What do you mean on a goal? Sandwich was the ballot fishes. Everything else live office is all of the base. Wow. Yeah, yeah, they were good and they're terrible. This is all other bait. Clearly for me. Could you could seriously spend a very minimal amount of money on bait and tackle and have enough to get through the entire surf perch fishing? It's not snaggy. You're not gonna donate a bunch of geared know about tell you what I'll tell you what does happen is, you know when you're squid Jagan I'll lock my line off because like, oh, on your real. Yeah, we'll check this out. So you squid chicken and you lock your life off and so that when when you open your mail, your squid Jake drops to like inches above the bottom when you're off appear because the minute hits the bombing of snag. The what I imagined to be a carpet of other squid jigs snake. There's one rock and invention that Rogge grows into a carpet of squid. It's just a coral reef squid and so you can't touch the bottom. So I locked all real, especially with my kids. It's you just open the bail on the line, stops the line, stops where it's supposed to stop it safe to start your stroke. There? Well, it was squishing season and so I- rig everybody up..

"Manhattan chowder which was read New England chowder, which was white. Or a combo. That's kind of a little bit of both. But I prefer to an a clam I caught. I prefer to make the Manhattan chowder because it doesn't like hide your claim in a white pasty glue. Because like you went to all the trouble dig things up, right? You wanted to like you wanna look and everything. There's the clams. Yeah. So that's why I like the the red Manhattan chowder. I enjoy reser clams so much just eating them, like you said fried and really anyway that I felt like it was almost a waste to make chowder out of them. Well, my wife likes child. Yeah. No, I do too, but it's like there's other bigger lose into or fry it and take the chewier access and make the never thought of that. That's a good idea. How do you cold smoking? What do you mean? You Brian? He doesn't. He I'm assuming he Brian's them up, but I remember him bringing him out on fishing trips and whatnot, and they were just he's big, beautiful smoked of razor clams, you know that were just intact. You know, not cut up into strips or anything, and they were nice rate. I. Mr. Stor? No, not a strong annoy Stor more like a cl- they still they retain their flavor. You know they were good, really good. Yeah. All the razor clans. I've Doug of all been on the same couple beaches out here. What I used to think was the peninsula. Yeah. Hanging out in the harbor this whole time? Yeah. Kind of I'm gonna go around the my neighbors, bring clams to host on the goal and say, hey, man, you know what, you know, I told you got those. It's not where I got him. They've probably been driving up and down the Olympic peninsula. Always. Only been to the one. I was caught more rocks, but I'm saying. Or clips clips actually. Motown clips, the beach beach. So when you check in the clam tied, yeah, you go on the record. If you have been like like razor clam, you go into e to Google type razor clam season or whatever. You just takes you to that page tells you what's coming up. It'll be like the breakdowns are simple. All the beaches, the days are opened and we went out one time me and my wife and our three kids came out, hit a clam tied and stayed in that ocean shores hotel, and it's a big place, Tony. What about two hours for low tide? Every hotel door opens up and people walk out of their hotel rooms and hit boots to be clean in person at that hotel would be hell. Yeah, that wouldn't be part right now because the amount of mud sand and then everyone goes down and it's like this giant tailgate party. That's the kind of tailgate and I could get involved in. Yeah, people sitting around on the tailgates drink beers getting ready to or having just dug up razor clams, like I said, man, it makes you really happy to be American to clam digging, especially if it's like it is now Sony and in Washington beaches, you can drive on the beach. So it's nice like Oregon tons of razor clam areas. Yeah. Back in. Clam diggers source. That's the thing to make it here. That's kind of that's a good point because like it seems like it low tide that waters out there mile. Then you got to park in a parking lot or a little roundabout. Somewheres cross the dune, and then you've got another mild ago. Yeah, with, whereas here you kids, you know, or here's the kids, love it driving down the beach. Yeah, yeah, I love. I love it. Yes, WalMart parking lot that never ends everyone from ten. WalMart's all had the park in a line down the beach. It's the only time. I'm glad to see other people out doing what I'm doing. Nori. Like someone else guy. Yeah, but there it's like, oh, yeah, wonder why that is. You're right. I feel that way too. Well, there's plenty go around. It's just so much room. So you Jimmy, you go fair bit. I've been a few times, but I've only been to the one beach that I've been mispronouncing now for several years..

"It doesn't contain him. And in fact, he sort of moving beyond his shell because he's just got a very fragile shell. And when you close it up, it's like a thick sandwich and the shells or sort of like the bread right when you look at the one side and the side just in there like he can't even fit in his show. He's got a big next dick out the diggers always out and diggers out. Yeah, the net kind of fitness very well either those diggers foot. Yeah. Yeah. You're right. So goes in his next always out. They like of they like they don't like. They're not in gravel during like just fine, fine. Sand union call saying. Saying, I would like. Yeah, same tropical beach saying like what you would want to walk on in this stuff and they hang out run in in the Latorre lls zone, though that word do not. It's like see, meets land like where the wave action plays out the littoral zone, the hang out in there and you sort of follow the tide out and you got clam gun or clam shovel, and you study the ground for these a federal little dimples at form and vanish. Sticky clam gun in a clam going is like, what was the day clam gun? They like five inches. Six inches. So five, six diameter to with a hand with a t handle on it. And you jam that some bitch down the mud. Right on top of where the dimple you center? The dimple on the gun and then tip it. And I've heard both. I've heard tip towards shore, never tiptoed the ocean. Tip toward, I think tip and towards shore. To not cut the claim and half at the clam gone. Yeah, which happens. All too often boss awhile. But you're not, but you gotta keep your boss tres. Yeah. So then there's like this little air. There's this little air escape hole in that clam going because shove the gun down. It compresses the air and so or shoves the air out and you sit down to buried in the mud, then you plug their home. Pull out in the pulls, the whole slug a mutt out which you're cylinders about what foot and a half, two feet. That's eighteen inch. Just eighteen eighteen eighteen inches. You still under the whole your figure puggle shove down the air needs to escape. But to make suction you just plug. It's like a little trigger hole. You plug it little trigger whole and you pull the whole kit and caboodle of pulling a core sample out of the ground. Horsing really good half the time. You dump it out in the clams, not there. Then you jump in and sink your arm into the up to the armpit in the whole, or you double-punch like pull up their cram back down in there, and then you get good, then pull up and you catch him or jump down and sink your arm up to the armpit and areas down in their hand on them. Yeah. Pull them up and there is your loud fifteen. And it's the first fifteen that come out of the ground. They don't want you highgrading them and they don't want you discarding them, but people do anyway. So pretty soon Segel's all over eating, busted up razor, clams and it's a hoot man, and they kind of open it just sporadically like a weekend here day there in it's usually the PM the PM low tide. Yeah, the PM low tide. Have you done it in the evening with Leonard of the take? My kids I have. I've done in the evening. It's real fun. I feel like you'd lose children at night. You have them hold the lantern. That's a good shore. Tony, we were out with kids and you had your youngest in one of those backpack carriers draft in. That's right. And you bent over to work a clam and the kid come out to carriers. You kept trying to reach down out of the carrier clam. So I go over like this and she would chew would come out backpack trying to reach out to Kim out of carrier right in the surf hoops use this. There's like you go out there on the rough day, and there's this kid's wash and back and forth. It's hard to get declaims trying to pull your kids out sir. Got to watch him, but then the last claim and we did the last razor clam we did..

"The only question is, are you Wrangler new styles in great fits. First thing to bring up is Janas just flag says, interesting is that this is trivial. This is trivia for listeners. What do you call it? Let's say you're reading a hardcover book. Okay. And you peel off the dustjacket, what do you call the cover of the book. That is under the dust jacket. Is much as I've dealt books for a good portion of my life. I did not know that that is called the case. So whatever's under there which is using nothing is the case design. Not to be confused, casing for sausages. When someone said the design for the bookcase, I thought they meant when you buy a box of books, the book came in the box. It came in. That's not true. The segue learned. Jimmy Dorn told me last night that. In cry. If I'm wrong, Jimmy, during I will. Baseball players are infinitely smarter than football players in much better paid. I didn't say gear. They have guaranteed money than smarter. I didn't say that they were smarter. That's not a quote. I think you might be embellishing just to Ted. Will you laid out that they did a much better job that they don't bang their heads as much. This Hanes differently, less edge injuries, their heads as much and that they just sort of have over the years negotiated like baseball players collectively have negotiated better? Yes. The baseball players union is done well, in my opinion, a better job than the NFL players association, making sure that they get paid. You have you have been on the show enough to kinda know the sort of mug or the sorta lady who listens to this show. What percentage of those mugs and ladies do you feel have seen the video? You showed me of the guy hitting the morning of the baseball of the fastball. How many women do you think of seen the picture or the video? Randy Johnson hitting a dove with a fastball. I would say it's pretty low. If you haven't seen this video if you type in if you type in the word, Randy it auto fills the fourth, the word, Randy alone. When I entered Randy into my phone, the down auto fill is what's his name? Again, Randy Johnson is Randy Johnson hits bird with baseball or something like that blows of is I've never seen anything like it was a very unfortunate event for the DOE. Yeah, yeah. I like mourned. That's upon you. Get the pun mourned for the dove. I did. I get it. So. Never seen like never. I mean, a puff of better. Exploding in done. So Jimmy Doorns here then. Janice poodles. We also learned some Washington state driver's license. Trivia didn't catch all that though. Fill people in Tony, like really the, you're right there for that where you she was really checked out who was getting on at that moment. The name of the hotel me shed my art, Westport, the Chateau Westport. The woman working the counter is really checked out on driver driver's license. Trivia, she's got two masters and she, they're fake one now. Your driver's license isn't hor. Your driver's license is is printed vertically. If you're under twenty one, which I wasn't aware of. You didn't know that? No. While I, you know, you can drink and Canada. When you're eighteen I drank a over change. Didn't use be nothing goes nineteen nineteen for whatever was I drank there on a fake ID. Long ago, all of us going to the mission. Did that go to Canada? Yeah, across the board for them, but no, I didn't know they changed the way. Did you guys are there any other significant tidbits from that little lecture? She gave us on design layout of driver's licenses. What something about the numbers, right? Yeah, that's how they tell if it's a fake ID. In, I don't know the the formula of the numbers and the letters, but something adds up to. I think it's your birthday, like like the two to and my driver's license number adds up to, you know, I don't know what year. Something like that you're, you're born plus the two numbers after the letters. There you go on your driver's license. Number total hundred. That's it. I think that's it. Yeah. So. Seventy eight to two seventy two. Right? So if you try to there was some other in like Dr license. Remember what? Dr your own license..
