"Life and thanks to babble for sponsoring this episode of amateur traveler or two shook up so when you talk about gas town gas town is the neighborhood just to the west of chinatown getting closer to canada place right between canada place in chinatown. I'm got correctly northwest right as you're heading towards the mountains from chinatown you would get into gas town. And that's where if you're coming into vancouver on cruise ships the cruise ship terminal great at canada place. Lets you off. The air and most people will sort of moved from there into gas town. And you'll find a lot of great galleries and some of the coolest restaurants in the city right in that part of the downtown as well but it also can be as you get further east where he needs to be a little more cautious in terms of homelessness and poverty and things like that and the guests town steam powered clock. Also there it is it is. That's right another popular attraction trying to remember how many times day it goes off or recall that you'll often see crowds from the crucial come up specifically to see the the steam clock. Now you mentioned there were a number of good restaurants only area. Do you have a particular favorite too. Yeah there's some great ones in yale town. I mean if you're looking for seafood. I think probably the best restaurant in town for seafood is lower cafe. Definitely on your side of things but great. Fresh local seafood seafood. Tower is is amazing. Their seafood tower tower. It's like six levels of fresh seafood on ice with various different sauces and things and fresh crab legs and fresh certain kinds of great. Any sale towns. Yield town is across from granville island in the main peninsula that has concludes candidate place and the stanley park. Sort of on the other side of downtown from candidate. Places the granville island bridge from granville island in downtown. The first neighborhood you had hit the town got okay. So yeah they've got the flying pig which is another great local restaurants rodney's oyster house another great place for for seafood and then between yell town and chinatown deciding more into the area please called sham bar which great belgian restaurants really known for their brunch but also a great spot for dinner as well lots of really inventive things always on the menu and you say belgian restaurant. Even though i'm ben to belgium. I don't know what i would expect. Remember the muscles in brussels. But what would i expect a belgian restaurant in vancouver. The muscle muscles or fries are definitely out of their high conic belgian waffles at breakfast. But that's it's a mix of belgian food and mediterranean food and always new and different things on the video. It's great excellent from there. Another sort of great neighborhood getting a bit out of downtown and moving back across the granville bridge into the city. Place called kit solano as where you'd find a lot of the beaches the city so certainly. If you're here in the summer kits llano summer you would want to check out kind of place. Where if it's a sunny day you're certainly going to find a lot of people out to a few beach volleyball games going on and beautiful views of the mountains and ocean from there and also the summer. It's sort of home to antacid fireworks festival. That goes over about a four week period on sorta wednesdays and saturdays where you'll get two hundred thousand people all downtown on the beach on both the english bay side of the beach and over on the kid slant aside watching the fabric festival and geography her here again. The english bayside is which side. English may would be so. That's the other side of false creek sort of right on the west side of cover as it faces towards vancouver island terrible direct. You're killing me.

But for those ultra wealthy investors. Thank Hoover is still a key destination to park money. Jackie. North NPR news Vancouver. This is NPR news. It's geeky weedy news. I mean akin public defenders in San Francisco are pressuring the police department to release more files related to officer misconduct and serious USA force, these officer personnel files would have been kept from public view before this year, but a new state law requires certain investigations to be released and you criminal Justice reporter, Alex Emslie helped form a coalition of journalists that's requesting and reporting on these police records and Alex how many files have you gone from have PD? And how would you compare their response rate to other police agencies you've sought records from say it's kinda slow. There was a pretty transparent, coordinated effort early on in this year in the city of San Francisco to stall. We're not just talking about the police department. It's also the city's civilian oversight of city police commission and the department of police accountability. They all sent this kind of boilerplate responses to our public record. West saying, in essence that it was too hard to review and release these case files in an efficient amount of time. So that allowed the city's police union to file a legal challenge, and that was short lived police unions throughout the state have lost dozens of these kinds of cork couches the police commission is just now five months into the new year considering how and when it will make these files public. So explain why the San Francisco public defender's want these files. Yeah. Public defenders want these records because they can use findings that officer in the past has been found to have been dishonest or lied. In a police report, they can use those findings in court to say if this officer has been dishonest in the past, they may be being dishonest in their testimony against, you know, the person facing criminal charges. The public defenders office in San Francisco has been clamoring for quicker releases particularly for records on officers who arrested people that are right now facing criminal charges. They need these records today. Day yesterday and they're not happy with the delays, and what has have PD released. It made a couple of older officer involved shooting cases, available and a policy review of the twenty fourteen shooting of Allah hundred Yeta in Burnaby heights park, just today, the department released its policy findings in the December twenty fifteen shooting of Mario woods, and the baby district, that was a hugely impactful case that led to the resignation of former chief, Greg, sir federal intervention in the SF PD and an ongoing reform effort, the department found no wrongdoing in the Mario woods case. But the investigation mentions all these changes that were made after the shooting that are intended to prevent something like it happening ever again. So that was one of the things that was in the released today. It's new in that it's interesting that, that kind of sentiment is included in internal affairs file where they're they're saying. We have to evaluate these officers are five officers who shot Mario woods. We have to evaluate their actions based on, you know, the rules that were in place at the time. However, because of and since the shooting and after it happened, we have changed those rules. And so that may lead to a different analysis, and we should know Tampa disco just settled a lawsuit by woods mother for four hundred thousand dollars. That's right. The settlement amount was just revealed this week attorneys representing Gwendolyn woods. Mario woods mother said this is finally the end for her. You know, she can finally started move on to heal. But there are a lot of records about cases that we don't know about. And that's a lot of these misconduct investigations cake criminal Justice reporter, Alex Emslie. Thanks, alex. I mean, Kim cake, you news, California forest.

"My. But I'm actually quite a fan of both of these drinks, I want my uncle Jack to try them. Maybe he's. Yeah. Because he might have got ripped off too. Because it's so easy to do. The other version of them other one that I think I'm probably going to say it wrong because I can't I have in front of me. But it's like Michelle Lada or something like that. And it's a Mexican one. It involves a Mexican beer usually Mexican dark Mexican lager, I think and tequila and probably mother Lyman stuff. But it's still comes across like drinking beer with the Quila dumped in it. Whereas these we've done here seemed a little bit more complex, the the first one the priory who I think if you didn't tell somebody they wouldn't know what the flavors, they wouldn't know. That was beer cocktail. I think you're right. Yeah. You pull out they would go. What does that say? It's bitter Italian bitter. It's okay. This was a little more Beeri. Little nobili. The Rockford files. It'd be a little sweeter. I wonder if a splash Grenadine wouldn't. I think that the fruity the Grenadine would blend the well and bring being a little more flavor. It's okay. But not as good as. Here. I wanna say full disclosure, which is annoying thing that people say now, and I don't know if you people anything, so it's not full be for the most. That's right. That's the one thing I own. But when I I sent this out to the boys that we were going to be doing these drinks the boys being Fred, Dave. Fred said, I don't know if you'll be able to find raspberry beer seems like a seasonal thing. And I said, no, it's available all the time. Don't worry about I'll track down. And so I did a bit of research just to say where am I going to get to know to be lying? And there was at the local liquor store the Granville island, false creek raspberry ale. There was also a company is sixty four sixteen. German beer, and they had one called red fruits, which has a raspberry file in it, and they might have been something else too. But I knew that they were available. So I went down. I could only get the four cans of the raspberry ale Brin, and I got one can of the red fruit. One to see what it was lying here is so I drank it just to see what it tasted like this. Like, a beer with raspberries and stuff, and I and then I had the grandpa island raspberry ale. And I said best not as good as what the other one was. But I too was going into this episode thinking, well, if they're going to be that great anyway, raspberry beer, this is a raspberry ale. We're gonna use it. But I'm wondering if the other one might have been it wasn't it was much sweeter. But it does because the beer does have a lot to do with it. So yeah, maybe the sixty four it would change the the profiles. Maybe one thing say about this is that compared to the first one is the flavor. It's quick hip. And then it's gone. Like, there's no there's no after taste. It's no long finish finish at all. And I think that's what I sort of found with the razz with the raspberry ale itself compared to that other one was that it was what it came and went. Got a bunch of pulp to no denying pulp. Good for you fibers. So it's good for your digestion. I think I'm going to have to go for this is my favorite for the show. No breaking. With you loves us raspberry. He loves his fresh fruit. That's Rhode Dave. I don't know the temporaries bitterness which is fine times. But I prefer this. And they're both actually appears wise end up being kind of both sangria ish looking to. Particularly this one because it's quite a a red color the color of the of the other one that I had the sixteen four. That's what it was called was more of a brownish color, right? That's an old fruit. That's seems the color for the left sit on the counter longtime. That's that's the old fruit old red fruits. And then I wondered when I look at it saying red fruits is that right to say red fruits isn't the plural of fruit fruit. Now. Possessive the red fruits handbag, right grammar putt.

"So that we could bumper out to these, Bruce that's a fun experience in its own right but fair stay cooperative. Decent sours dangerous, man. Really cool Berea Minneapolis. And then modus I was surprised that was closest to downtown very good sour very good hazy as so that was just a really fun day in Minneapolis a surprise because we're going to do like one Brey and then Kyle Meta's out. We're able to because we had a car and him with us striving. We are able to pop around three breeze, and it pretty quick time and all were above average. That was great. My number six is brewery that we went to in Vancouver. And we went to a lot of Vancouver. We have around a lot. I don't think this is going to be on your list because we weren't actually there for very long. But that is brass neck brewing. It is one of my favorite breweries in Vancouver because they just put out exceptional beer. And they're always different. I've had a lot of really good experiences at this brewery, including you know, in a different year just hanging out with my best girlfriends Courtney and crystal brewery hopping and ending up there, and then in twenty eighteen with just traveling wit, you know, we had gone to we'd walked all around Vancouver. That day we went to my favorite, fish and chips place down at Granville island. And then we walked all the way up mainstream. We went to thirty three hundred walk long, walks long walks. Watch. And we went to. Yeah. We went to thirty three acres, which usually is my favorite. But they didn't have any good beers. That I liked on top of that time. And then we went to brass neck, and they had one of the best beers. I drink maybe all summer. It was such a fantastic beer. They had it in some cans. So we bought a few cans. I wish we had brought about more really two cans. It was just so good. We sat there we drank a beer we were staying at an Airbnb like two blocks away. So we just had a beer walked back to our Airbnb hung out and chilled drink the cans it. It was just a nice experience with a really good. They had a good hazy on which we're always gonna love and they had a good sour. So it was like a raspberry sour. So if you have those two on and they're and they're good. I think that actually brass next as is still the best hazy hadn't been Cooper. Yeah. It was just to cope shit. I'm actually in Vancouver for my numbers, really and this interest in the enough for whatever reason on. On lists of best breweries. I I do a lot of research and no one ever mentions this one in Vancouver. And yet, so I was surprised like our friend said they liked it. And we got there, and it was way better than my expectations of it. Because of what I had read and that Strathcona, okay Strathcona is on my list higher up L guy. guy love we will one from Strathcona. Then that's my number six. We'll talk about it. When it gets to Heather's us as we say, we don't know each other's this. Sometimes overlap move onto your number five number five is also in British Columbia by to not an cougar mine is in Colona. So is mine one never we match virtue vice inversion Bertilla, so we'll tell you this story together since this is both our number five we were in Colona BC beautiful area. There are few breweries there. And we went to a few that were like below average. But I saw this one called vice virtue had cool branding, and I saw sit did when untapped there. After Instagram found it on untapped. I think and you know, it was in a part of clone is not very big. But there's this part is a little more industrials. There's not a ton of stuff on this one. St. and yeah, you had driven passed it. I think earlier in the day wasn't open. Right. I went to check on it because it said it was opening soon..

"Right. And I'm from Atlanta, Georgia, and I played a cow. So he said, okay. I knew the Pakistani said it's like we went to Washington. So it was like, you know, two hours from Seattle say sell is like two hours from Seattle. Okay. And we were going, but that's the thought, you know, once he got the Vancouver. He was gonna he's gonna love it like I did. And you know, that of course that never. Happened. Yeah. That was unfortunate. And people of this generation, you know, either have forgotten her don't know now that you know, at the time that Vancouver and Toronto came in franchises in the mid nineties. Like that was the thing. It was a big deal like players were really averse to the idea of playing in other country in Canada who big scary, Canada and Toronto. Now, I don't I feel like they don't have that at all like that dynamic that that hasn't. A thing to kids are, you know? I think a my children are so much. There's so more. There's so much more sophisticated in a wear and knowledgeable in connected. Just social media. Right everything. Right. So things don't feel as far away as as they did to to us. You know, I remember again like I remember draft night with stuff on each from Brooklyn. And like you're going you're going all the way to candidates. You know? It was like, you know, all the, you know, three hours from Minnesota where he was going, right? So, but that that was, you know, us at that time. Yeah. I'm glad that part of it has subsided like that that there's no longer this like I say stigma even feels like too big of a word for it. But there was there for for a lot of players. They just didn't want to do it. When you look back just in your Amazon, you take your your your league hat off. Where do you think as a player? It went wrong for Vancouver as a market when you were there because you feel like this was just not going to connect the way that that that guys hoped. No. I mean, I think you know, obviously from currency standpoint American business people, you know, own in a Canadian business, and at that time, I think, you know, the I forget the Loney. Tony was you know, like, you know, thirty percent lower than than the dollar. So if I'm an American businessperson, I'm doing business. You know, every time you buy tickets on losing money. So I mean, I I think it was dead. In regards to basketball, people loved basketball. They still I still see folks with that, you know, at the time we created in hated it. But that -til Vancouver jersey. So I mean, if anything I think it was debt, you know, we didn't really get enough time to kind of build a team. I think our our model building team was different from D'amoto that Toronto took where you know, they built a team and kinda traded picks. And in some cases, you could say they drafted a little better events, and and g MAC and those guys, but they, you know, did trade away, you know, some younger guys to get, you know, veteran guys and established guys where the motto in Vancouver was to kinda build through the draft and Bill younger guys and tape kind of older guys that were misplaced. Maybe that, you know, we didn't you know, are processed in speed fast enough. We weren't good. You know, good enough soon enough that might have been it. But we were you know, it was good. Yeah. Any any particular memories of Vancouver itself? Your experience living down that was that was by far one of the favorite cities of all of us as writers food of the Stanley park. Yeah. You know, Whistler mountain. Granville island, Victoria, kids Lamis, so many just amazing really really, you know, if you don't, you know, people can travel go to Vancouver like, it's awesome. Yeah. It it is so much covering it. As a reporter that I ended up taking my then girlfriend now wife there on vacation when you're because I was like you've got to see this play. It was it was that great. And you got married there. Things went okay. Obviously behind that. Couple of quick was before. I let you go people..

"We'll work on to apple says, it has not seen a higher than normal return rate, so far, but the only way for customers to return their ipads now that they've noticed that it's bent is within the fourteen day return window. So it should be no problem to just by six, ipads, the flattest one in return the other five, but we're not saying you should do that. We're not saying, we're fine, ipad it all. Oh, yeah. Because you could literally you don't even have to just rapidly exchange. You could literally just buy a ton of them. And they're just no, no, no, no, no. I mean, that's one of the reasons that hang on. Can't take like open box process of returns without charging restocking fees because back in the day when over clocking was kind of more of a thing people would go they would buy like twenty thirty processors. They would overclock them all see which one could do it. And they'd keep really good ones. They would flip them on EBay or whatever. And then they just returned the crap tastic ones with open boxes, and he's like thermal compound all over them. Okay. So the last thing for today, I'm going to LT expo dot com. We know it's redundant. We don't care and I'm going to the updates page. Do you like the logo, by the way? Yeah. No, it certainly like it a lot. He'll do you like this logo being on the same page, probably more than anyone could imagine. I've actually so freaking excited. So we understand that you have to click it. Oh, that's not actually that obvious. There's work to be done on the blog. Okay. So as part of our weekly plan. So we want to make sure that there's an update every week from now on something. So this time being outed something going on. We don't really have anything huge to share on the blog. So because it's a two day event this time because Vancouver during the summer happens to be a beautiful place to come and visit and we know that it's hard to justify coming all the way out here just for a convention or something like that. We just wanted to post some fun and cool stuff to do here in the city that you guys can check out while you're here. Like don't just make it a two day in and out event. Come see our city come enjoy it. This is the kapalama suspension bridge. It's actually a really like it's a little bit hard to capture. It's a really wonderful experience. Pretty sick. Sorry last week. Oh, did you really? Granville island is a lot of fun. If you enjoy craft beers Vancouver is happening seen for And you go it. to And you go to. Granville island. You can go to called Vancouver theatre sports. That's where Ryan styles and. One of the other awesome. Dudes off of whose line is any curriculum. Mockery out there. Start really awesome. Until really really cool stuff. And also over on the LT X Twitter. This is cool. This is this is an actual update. Oh, yeah. Okay. This is amazing. This is our convention space this year, it is flipping huge. You moved it off certainly, but it's like five thousand no the the size. Oh, oh, yeah. Five thousand square feet. Yeah. Seventy five thousand square feet, baby. It is going to be something else. We are hard at work making sure that this year's event is going to be. A huge step up. We've already talked about. And rod nice, nothing is set in stone..
