"They're being inducted into the National Vienna Beef Hot Dog Hall of Fame this morning. At 10 38 21 Dean. We have celebrity real estate to report today, don't we? I am always happy to share of the real estate news. The celebrity real estate bubble. Continues to, uh, you know, glow, and this time it focuses on Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award winner Egot. Winner John Legend and his cookbook author, model wife, Chrissy Teagan. They have sold their very modest Beverly Hills home. It is 8500 square feet, seven bedrooms. With hand carved wooden ceiling that was imported from Thailand. That's just some of the features that I have here on my Dean Richards real estate listing sheet. That modest I put, uh, the property was listed for $23.9 million. They settled for 16.8 so They lowered their price quite a bit, but still made money on the house. They bought it. A couple of years ago for 14 million from Rihanna. So this house has got some in a celebrity history to it. Heather Locklear is coming back. What is she going to be doing exactly? She is going to be doing a movie with of all people, Meghan McCain from the view. Heather Locklear has actually not made a movie since 2017. She's just been laying low, but she is going to be starring in an upcoming movie called Don't Sweat the Small Stuff. Christine Carlson's story. Christine Carlson was the co author with her late husband of the best selling book series. Don't Sweat the Small Stuff, and, uh, Heather Locklear will star in it. Megan McCain will be the executive producer of it. Is going to be the first project for Meghan McCain. After leaving the view, which she does at the end of this month. So I think this week is her last week on the error on the view, but this movie is expected to be released on lifetime. Little bit later on this year. How does the James Man movie the new one Look to you? It looks great to me. I mean, I'm huge James Bond fan. I'm pretty sure I've seen all of them. Through the years of the next one is called no Time to die. And this movie has been delayed and delayed and delayed because of the pandemic. It was first supposed to come out in April of last year. Then it got moved back to November of 2020. And then they moved into April of 2021 right now. It's scheduled for release on October. The eighth and I've seen some footage of it. I've seen they they had a trailer that came out Uh, I don't know of 34 months ago. Something like that, and the trailer look great. But they released some new footage yesterday of just action scenes of just Daniel Craig in fights and doing special effects and jumps from cars and off of cliffs and You know things like that's on YouTube if you want to take a look at it, but I'm super super excited about it, and I hope it's still going to be released in 2021. I mean, you know we were So optimistic that everything was reopening again. But now, with covid numbers going back up, it's anybody's guess. What's going to be happening now? Uh, you know, in the next few months, Yeah, and you wonder how people will feel about getting back into theaters now? We just started to be okay with it again. And now the variant. Yeah, we've got this big this big test of the whole thing with Lollapalooza stays on Friday morning. 100,000 people a day are going to cram into Grant Park. And even though they say that they're going to require proof of vaccination, or that you have to show that you have tested negative for covid within the last 72 hours. Before being allowed in. Uh, it sounds like it's very easy to bypass that system. I mean, if you go online right now, don't encourage anybody to do this, but There are fake vaccination cards that are easily purchased. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if you know they're going to be selling them if if Lollapalooza's going on in Grant Park My guess. What if you walked over to Wabash under the L You probably could buy some fake vaccination cards. Yeah, unfortunately, no doubt about it. So you know what? Who? Who knows what is going to happen after this weekend? And did you see who is 99 today? Dean did not Norman Lear. No kidding. He's unbelievable. The legend. Yeah, And he, uh I mean, I saw him, uh, won't been a couple of years, but Man. Oh, man. Is he still sharp? Yeah, he's sharp as a tack. He hosted a screening of if there's a documentary about two years ago about his life and everything on television. That he created all of his groundbreaking television shows his life growing up, Uh, the Archie Bunker character that he created for all in the family was based. On his dad. Uh, so they had a screening over at the music box theater, and they invited me to come over and host a Q and a with Norman Lear. I think it was. I don't remember. It was before or after. I guess that doesn't really matter, because the whole thing is a blur to me sitting on stage with Norman Lear and you know, interviewing him and talking to him. And just hearing his amazing stories. I was on cloud nine people always ask. You know where your favorite people that you've interviewed and Norman Lear would definitely be one of those. How grid I asked him. What His secret was to being so vibrant still well into his nineties and he looked at me and he said it's because I'm here right now, and I said, What do you mean, he said. I'm not thinking about what I did yesterday. What I'm going to do tomorrow I'm present and taking in everything that's going on right now at this moment, and you think about that. That's pretty cool. That's that's fantastic advice. He I remember him. Also talking about I have nonstop curiosity. Yeah, that he is constantly, you know, wondering. Well, what? What about this story? What about that? What about you know his whole life has been a series of What about That have been complete genius, So God bless him. Happy birthday 99 years old Norman Lear 99 Mick Jagger, 78 Old is the new young. There's no question it's hope. Let's hope to talk to him around. Thank you, Dean coming up after the 8 30 news. We'll talk about the New Illinois Rock and Roll Museum..

The President's picture

"Now back on election night in two thousand eight. I was sitting on the couch watching the news. My career in photojournalism at morphed into a career shooting weddings. Not because. I really wanted that because it paid money. Such is life and so there. I was sitting on that couch. Not working the most historical election night of my life. The crowd is reaching a million in grant park. The anchor said in washington. Tens of thousands of people are gathered at the white house. Some tv journalist explained breathlessly. And i couldn't take it anymore. I looked at the clock. It was eleven. I gotta go. I said to man where she replied. No i gotta go make a picture of something and so a jumped into my car and sped down a sleepy military road. And then i loved myself. Where would i find a parking spot near the white house. Isn't it funny. How logistics can be such a buzzkill aloft. Again you idiot. Forget the white house. Go to the lincoln. Martin luther king marian anderson. I have a dream. I figured there'd be thousands of people just like the white house was a ton of the twenty. Six as i walked up at tv crew was walking away. Nothing to see here. My fellow agenda said to me. Helpfully barack obama's speech from bronco was coming through the radio. My fellow citizens. I stand here today humbled by the task before us. Grateful for the trust. You've bestowed mind-mindful of the sacrifices borne by our ancestors. I felt lanka wounded into a candid camera prank twenty-six very quiet people who gathered around a single transistor radio in the steady drizzle. Not even a mile from where tens of thousands of people were screaming. Their heads off. It was around midnight and was very dark in the rain was fogging things up on my camera. But i'm made some pictures because that's what we journalists do the next morning at six. Am i emailed gone you at the new york times. I think. I wrote something like election night. Lincoln memorial twenty six people in rain in the subject filled to get his attention. Five minutes later. My phone rang. i chuckled. The photo ran the size of a stamp on the op-ed page of the times. The next day better than nothing. I thought then some woman named connie email me i say some woman comically because i didn't know her at the time she has since become a dear friend but back in two thousand and eight two days. After the election of barack obama. She was just columnist. I didn't know saying she wanted to write a story about my picture and she was on deadline so i called her back and some guy named sherritt answered the phone detecting trend here. Connie really needs to talk to you but she's just getting out show. Just hang on a few moments. She'll be here so i talked to share it for five minutes chatting about the election and everything and having no idea i was talking to a united states senator email. My sister woman named connie schultz interview today connie schultz. I love her. She's on msnbc all the time you dingo and connie wrote beautiful column. Everyone was excited for me. The grainy photo of the twenty-six folks in the dark and the rain that i shot for no publication in particular was suddenly gaining traction. My neighbor republican joe crowley loved it. He asked me if he could give some to his colleagues. I made copies. Joe gave them to members of the congressional black caucus he also brought one to the white house event and gave it to the president and that photo got framed and hung outside the president's study for eight years and that's where this story should end except that in two thousand sixteen after donald trump was elected. The new president-elect was invited for white house to by president. Obama and my old friend pete souza took a photo of that man. Sizing up the president's study. Will you see in. The photo is his orange hair as he pokes his head in and his hands on the wall right next to my framed photo. Pete's picture is awesome and that's where this story ends except for today because i've been getting e mail after e mail from people who've gotten their hands on president obama's memoir and in his memoir. He says that my photograph the slightly boring one of twenty six people standing in the rain is his favorite photo from his election night. His what president obama rights. But i worry the my memories of that night night so much else has happened these past twelve years a shady by the images that i've seen the footage of our family walking across the stage the photographs the crowds and lights and magnificent backdrops as beautiful as they are. They don't always match the lived experience in fact my favorite photograph from that nice isn't a drum park toll rather it's the one i received later as a gift. The photograph the lincoln memorial taken. As i was giving my speech. It shows a small gathering of people on the stairs that's is obscured by the dot is behind them. The giant figure shining brightly. Here face craggy is is slightly downcast. They're listening to the radio. I am told quietly contemplating who we are as people. And the ark of this thing. We call

"Has. I guess you might call an autobiography that's out right now. That's called green lights. Which talks about both personal and professional things that have happened in his life. I was very, very, very happy that we're able to sit down for this Chicago exclusive interview with Matthew McConaughey the many times that we've sat down to talk I'm always taken back to the one time that you were here in Chicago. You know exactly what I'm going to say that. You know exactly. We wait. You haven't had an interview in that office before I am aunt have never since either out in the middle of a snowstorm sitting out in Grant Park. Uh, you were touring the country, and it remains one of the most memorable interviews that I've ever done in my life. Well, that was ah grand experiment. We know my my body and I pulled the Airstream around America. We put over 13,000 miles under us. And I remember. Yeah. When we got up in the Northeast we got in there run Chicago. It was no it hold it, But it was. It was a fun adventure. I haven't funny press junket like that yet, either. Yeah, it was. It was fun. I just remember you and I like two idiots sitting out in the cold and the snow trying to pretend like nothing was going on. I figured you know the weather doing all the interview, doing interviews like that. It just kind of Inevitably cuts the pretense out of everything. The elements are tough, like, Okay, let's get down to it. Well, I mean, you do a million of these interviews. I do a million of these interviews to have you know something that both of us remember so vividly. Mission accomplished is all I can say on your part and manned mission accomplished on this book of just Ah, thoughtful and interesting. Uh, guidebook on what you've been through in your life. Green lights explain what the concept was and how how you decided to do this. Well, so I've been keeping a journal slash diaries for 36 years. Um So get thousands of pages of hundreds of different journals that have been collecting and putting Ziploc bags and put him in this treasure chest and about 15 years ago. Started threatening to go away and see if anything, if all those of everything's in those journals that we're worthy of putting into a book, and I didn't have the courage to do it. Um, I finally got the courage about 2.5 years ago and went away. Remember when I first sat down? I took them all away to this little shed in the desert just so I would be stuck with nothing but me and myself in the last 50 years, Okay, my journals. And I had an idea of what I thought they were gonna be, and I actually thought they were going to be very academic. And as I got into it, I start going. This is actually more a little more poetic than academic and I was and I remember going to stop That you see what they are. Let them reveal themselves. And what came out of it. This end up with seven stacks in front. They were stories. People, places prescribes, poems, prayers and a whole lot of bumper stickers and those with seven stacks. And that's okay. Well, let's get into that safe. The central thing comes out in the central theme that came out was The green light thing. I noticed that I caught green lights in my life, meaning things that are more freedom being kind to our future self delayed gratification when happy I caught a lot of those by decisions I had made. So I designed them. By decisions and responsibilities I took for myself. I had some green lights to just fell in my lap, and I was like, Well, I just got lucky. Where'd this come from? Thank you on Ben. I had Quite a few that would all about perspective, Meaning I would hit a bump in the road. And maybe not even give the crisis credit. A k a. The yellow light. Not even give it credit. Just blow right through it that hardship and say I'm not even gonna give that crisis credit. I'm gonna make it a green light. And then I also ultimately found this was the real lesson in it that the red and yellow lights in my life, the hardships, the pauses. The things that made me stop. The things I didn't want at the time turned out to be things that I needed because there are lessons that I need to learn that were inherent in them that I either realized at the time the next day the next week 10 years later, and some. I still haven't even realized yet, but believe that they will eventually reveal their green light assets via lessons learned in some time in my life. Yeah, I mean, it's just a great learning experience really that we all face. Green lights and red lights and yellow lights and you know all, all of these great metaphors that are the sum total of our lives, said. Hopefully, we learned from that red lights do turn into green lights and You know that and the fact that if they were all green if life was all green lights Well, it wouldn't be about anything it be about nothing more than entertainment. And so that you know that those Yellow's where we're forced to pause or be introspective or or re approaches situation those service many times. We don't usually we don't like him, But I think the sooner we can sit there and looking okay, I may not like this situation. This may be a hardship. This may be a crisis. But let me without denying the crisis. How can I open and kind of figure out what's the value in this for me? And there's usually something to find. I always find it so interesting with somebody writes a book about their life for their experiences of that. They put all the words in all out there. They put it all out there. Is that difficult to do. I mean to tell Difficult and painful things that happened in your life. It wasn't really difficult. I tell you, it will be difficult. What I haven't done is I wouldn't do I would never do it. Say in this format. We're on a talk show or within in it in a long form interviewer and a periodical Because what was I didn't There's a lot of things.

No Chicago parade on Columbus Day amid pandemic concerns and controversy over explorer's legacy

"Today in place of the traditional Columbus Day Parade. It's only partially being cancelled due to Cove in 19. Ellen Marshall has more on that the festivities are going on with a bit of a backlash this year. Christopher Columbus Day is still a point of contention between Italian Americans who say they're celebrating their culture and activists who condemned the Explorer for mistreating indigenous people as well as his spread, helping spreading slavery. I should say just this summer, protestors clashed with police when they tried to tear down the Columbus statue in Grant Park. Then the city removed all of its statues and Chicago public schools dropped his name from federal holidays. As for the statues, the city hasn't said what they plan to do with them. Some possible options are putting them in a museum or back up around the city. The

"I'm has come today by the chambers brothers, this is democracy. Now, I'm Amy Goodman, as we turn to the historic number of women of color running for public office in today's election in the United States motivated in part by president Donald Trump's constant derogatory remarks against women and the numerous claims that he committed sexual assault. At least two hundred fifty five women are on the ballot is congressional candidates, including a record number of women of color. In addition to fifty nine black female congressional candidates nationwide. In Georgia, Stacey Abrams hopes to become Georgia's first black governor and the country's first African American woman. Governor this follows major advances in the primaries earlier this year when democratic socialist Alexandra Cossio Cortes won an overwhelming victory against top democrat, congress member Joe Crowley in the Bronx and queens for a house seat. She could become one of the youngest woman ever elected to congress to Muslim women Palestinian American Rashida cleave in Michigan and Somali American on Omar in Minnesota also won their Democratic Party primaries for seats in the house. Both women are running in strongly democratic districts. Meanwhile in New Mexico, dead Halen could become the nation's first native American woman to serve in congress for more. We go to Atlanta Georgia where we're joined by Amy Allison, president of democracy and color, founder of she the people, Amy it's great to have you with us. You are going to be in New York. But I can see you could not resist. You wanna go where people this is grant park two thousand eight it's it's the raise that everybody's watching. So talk about what you're seeing right now in Georgia. What could be history-making? You know, it isn't just that Stacey Abrams would make history as the first black woman governor, although that's very significant. It's how she ran her campaign from the moment, she declared her candidacy in Albany, Georgia last summer, she is had organizers on the ground and a simple path of victory that turns the playbook the Democratic Party has used for decades on its head. She looked at the unin gauged people of color in the state of Georgia a state that's nearly majority people of color, and she said if we have a strategy of working with the community and registering engaging people of color and leading deeply into the base of black women or one point one million voters. That'll come to the polls today, we have a path of victory to turn the state blue. And I tell you the excitement on the ground is palpable. The I was here for early voting every single black millennia. Oh that I have met in the course of of working and traveling around Georgia has already voted, and I think just like in the primary here in Georgia. The pollsters are going to be surprised and very very positive it at the same time. Brian Kim Her opponent has undue power. He's never stepped down as secretary of state. So the voter suppression tricks and the cheating on the part of the Republicans is a very real barrier that we're going to continue to be aware of here in Georgia and talk about let's talk about some of what has done people have to understand. This is highly unusual. I mean, I have seen Republican after Republican now on cable networks who often are their parenting. What Trump says saying Kim, Brian Kemp who's running against Stacey Abrams has gone a step too, far Brian Kemp that secretary of state of Georgia means he's in charge of the elections also running for governor he's been targeting voters with ROY. Robocalls, featuring false claims about Abrahams in this..
