"The church is affiliated with the mayo clinic because the church is in a mayo clinic retirement community so it was a male clinic. Phone number that called. When she listened to the voicemail it was just classical music playing for two minutes specifically string quartet number. Twenty one in d k. five seven five prussian number one shares. five five five allah granado no. I don't remember this detail but i did. Textured to ask at the time she brushed. It brushed it off as a technical glitch then when we arrived home at the end of the weekend. She checked her landline voicemail. And she noticed voicemail from the same number at the same. Exact time as voicemail on her cell phone and guess what she listened to the message in it was the same song playing while freaking out. She called the church and asked if they called her during the weekend and the minister replied that he didn't call her once. The church also never heard the song before and said that they've never had that happen to anyone else. The minister said that must've been assigned from my grandma. Here's where things get. even stranger. No remember how. I mentioned that this church is from a male clinic phone number. The only time she's gotten a call from the mayo clinic that resulted in music. "Are comfortable exposing in the draft, You know, maybe a guy that does have a bigger cap hit but can still help contribute if Seattle take some, whatever. If you don't and you get the guy you'd let them play out his contract here one or two years or whatever it is and move on. And then the assets that you're getting in like the younger assets for the first round pick. Obviously, the first round pick doesn't matter. But you know you're younger assets, your prospects that are coming in. You don't have to worry about protecting them in in the expansion draft, they're ineligible to be picked or whatever. So that's also something else. The factor in the situation, but it's it's It's why it makes it so interesting heading into these next couple of weeks here because Are we going to see a Jack Eichel trade for purposes of, you know, moving on from him and then allowing yourself to protect other younger assets? I don't think that's necessarily what the mindset is. Because you still have to get the best value you can for Jack Eichel trade, But it just is another wrench to throw into the whole scenario in the situation. So I wonder where Granado comes into this because Granado impressed a lot of people because he seemed to understand how and where players should be used on the ice. More so than a lot of people who had been in that organization previously going back a long time. So Granado having a sense of like we're going to play on her at center. We're going to give these guys minutes those guys when it's and seeing all those boats rise, right? If he and Adams are talking You would expect Granado to kind of impart that kind of viewpoint of like this is these are the guys who were going to be using these. This is their best utilization. These are the guys who are maybe expendable because their usage does not fit into the thing that we're trying to do. If they can do the one thing they have not been able to do for 15 years, which is to correctly identify the talent they have and play it correctly. And if that changes with Granado You need to move the guys who have still have the advantage of like convincing. The leagues are good. If the reason people say Will Borgen was available in the expansion draft is because their assumption is what you have to protect, crystalline in good their marks. You can calm them and if their national reporters, they sound like the dudes, they talked to who all work in the other front offices. So it's plausible. You can find a front office dumb enough to take grass, mistrust the line in and give you something back. It should be an easy trade to make. He's affordable. He wants to go. He's got all the kinds of tools that convince you that he can be good, right. He's the easiest trade for them to make. Yeah, and you at this point again, you just even if you have to retain a little bit of salary with Risa lining You trade him. You get him off the roster. You open up some some cap space and you get the best value. Can Vegas traded Nate Schmidt last year? Who's a better defenseman than Rasmus Crystalline and can play both left and right side? And He was. I think it was like 1/5 round pick that they got back for him from Vancouver. Yes, I get it. They had to open up cap space so they can make the the Alex Pietrangelo signing. But at the same point, it's one of those situations where Okay? We have to get this guy off the roster. Somehow it's a different situation given for Vegas compared to Buffalo because risk linen has openly said, like, you know, I don't want to be here for another rebuild or, you know. Hey, I know I'm going to be traded, you know, because changes are coming at this point. If you're willing to make that trade, just make the trade make it happen and get it over. It's so easy to make the joke, but they gotta call Edmonton. Love dudes like him like and you just call them to be like, Listen, give us a pick and give us one of the kids from the from the from the farm team that we like, and we'll get out of your hair and you can get this guy and play him 40 minutes a night. They could call Jim Benning in Vancouver to let's squeeze in a quick phone call here. Bobby Niagara Falls has been sitting on hold for a while, Bobby, you're on W g R Go right ahead. Hybrid. Hi, Corey. My buddy thinks, of course, that they should trade cycle and Reinhardt, But I'd like to keep both of them. But can you How can you keep two players that want to be traded? Doesn't that mean they would try less? And that would be bad for morale. What's How do you keep people that want to be traded? Can you do that? I mean, certainly anything can change its its I mean, we We definitely don't know exactly what how the inner workings of the Sabres work. I mean, this is why we're sports talk host. We we talk, and we speculate and, well, we banter off people back and forth. I appreciate the call Bobby. Thank you. It is difficult to dry and make someone happy like a Jack Eichler Sam Reinhart, where they've been here for as long as they have, and they've known nothing but losing. They haven't even come close to the playoffs. Once I get it, you could say, well, there were three points away from making the return to play plan and that would be considered playoffs, which NHL sometimes doesn't consider it playoffs. I consider it playoffs, but Yeah. They haven't even come close to making the playoffs. Since they've been here. They had that nice little 10 game win streak. It's probably the high point of the entire drought for the Sabres this entire 10 year drought that they've had they've matched in NHL record for the longest playoff drought in NHL history. Do you see it ending anytime soon? Don't think Jack Eichel season ending anytime soon. I don't think Sam Reinhart season ending any time soon..

"For Don Granado is head coach of the Buffalo Sabres is Granada had his intern tank removed from his title on Tuesday after helping the Sabres to a significant turnaround this past season following a dismal opening 28 games of the season under Ralph Krueger. Granados said at the conclusion of this season that he told general manager Kevyn Adams that his position in Buffalo was the only job he wanted this summer an opportunity for me, but I really feel that it's more than an opportunity. It's an obligation. I feel like I have an obligation to all the people that follow the sabers that care about the Sabres to the players that walk in our room and have to battle for us to the staff that commits so much and everything involved. "Update Don Granado introduced today to the Buffalo media as head coach of the Buffalo Sabres. Granado believes he is the right coach for the job to develop some of the Sabres young players. There's a lot of things you do to be able to push them or it's not like it was 20 years ago when you can run a dictatorship coaching at this level. You have a little less power, and it's more in the form of influence. So you better know how to, you know, influence and be a positive influence the guys where they want to invest more. "It's still not great, but they were 18th and goals. No one's expecting great and they were 19th and shots. Improvement like Holy cow 18th and 19th. Yes, sign me up like I know we're at a low point got them in the playoffs last year, it would have So that's that's why I like the Granada hire the most, though it is a clear change that we no longer care about what's best for us Tuesday night against the Islanders, and we now care more about What is going to get these these kids and these guys that mean the most of the long term development of the franchise. What's going to get them in the best position because that has never been the case, your tweet about the goals scored really put a lot of things I don't want to say in perspective, because what is the second half of a losing season? In terms of sample size? What is that? How do you quantify that? But If those numbers are even what 75 to 80% accurate The the carry over from the pace from this year to next year under Granado. You're looking at a team that Is probably not a playoff team or if it is it's the last playoff team. But That's a team. I want to watch, and you want it. That's the team. I would go to the building to see. It's a team that I'll read through the numbers again, like like you said, if they if these players achieve 75% of these goal totals Middle stat 27. Roots align in 24. Aspelin 22 Thompson, 21, BYORK 16 Darlene 12. If those guys each get 75% of those gold totals Next year. Like you said they won't be a playoff team. Probably, but you know what they will be. There will be a team that the following season people are like, Hey, keep your eye on the Sabres. Yep. Like that's a team on the rise like that. That's really all you want to achieve next season is to go from the laughing stock of the National Hockey League, too. People look at you as a team on the rise. That's what has to happen in the next 12 months. I think Granado is the first step in doing that. The second step is trading Michael and Reinhardt. The third step is getting actual talent back as well, Exactly what went not great. We'll go through that a little bit because we're talking a lot of like, generalities about and Michael Trade and we we we speak, spoken specifically about like the Ducks. But I do want to explore some of the other teams that are in it. Vegas seems to be a hot item for and Michael trade in the past couple of days, at least as an idea. Uh, you had some reports on the Rangers yesterday that I want to get into because those were really triggering me. And eventually I want to see if I can break into an Olympic rant on Gary Bettman. Um, so we'll see how much time we have for that as well. Jody BOC and Brendan Kini looking for your calls Next on the Sabres here in the night cap on W. G. R. "Don Granado, Which means talking about Jack Eichel. Pretty much like I don't know, like a 3 to 1 or 4 to 1 ratio. Then I mentioned Aaron Rodgers. But you know It's not a perfect cop, but still like there's a star player who wants to be traded. And we think that a vehicle And so on. Rogers, by the way, made a trade today. So you Yes, that's where this ends. I made a trade today. Where now I want him back. Really? Yeah. I didn't care before. I kind of like the idea of his being traded. I was Excited for it. But now I now I traded for Davante Adams in the league, so I think I need them. They want to do you want to stack them? Is that what that's called? That's right. That's right. I mean, not just that, but just like Vontae Adams takes a hit if Aaron Rodgers isn't there, right? You see the Derek Carr said something about getting atoms on the Raiders next year, right? They were they college teammates. Is that Is that what that is? Oh, maybe I don't know that's uh yeah, it felt like what I what I read. The headline I saw was Derek Carr. Would love to play with Davante Adams again, I think is what I saw. So I'm I'm I didn't. I did not click on it, but that's what I saw. So I I'm thinking that they played. What is that? Fresno? Fresno State teammates. No state? Yeah. Had a draft Saturday and I was realizing how bad I am at the current guys where they went to college. Like I knew I used to know all of them. Now I know a few, but there's a lot of them. I don't know. I'll tell you the story. Did I mention this on on Monday? I don't think so. No. Brought yesterday. Right this Tuesday. Okay? No, I don't think it came up. I picked Gus Edwards at one point in this draft. And the subject of or I went to college came up and my friend Marcus went. He was supposed to go to Syracuse, but he turned it down to go to Miami. Wow. Look at you. Yeah. Look at Mel Kiper over there. That is outstanding, man. I wish I knew that so So, Yeah, you trade for Adams. You need Rogers. If you have atoms you need Rogers. And you think you do And he's a free agent. I mean, this is what gave car some freedom. I guess I don't know if he Just well, no one care that he's the quarterback. You know they're tampering. Yeah, right. But I think he's a free agent next year. And if Rodgers has gone maybe it's a given that Adams would be gone. I don't know. Maybe car wants to be traded to Green Bay and Rodgers deal. We'll play with Adams there. Oh, What does Derek Carr think he is? He thinks he's just in perpetuity. The Raiders quarterback by the way, I know right. It's just It's a foregone conclusion. And they're like I use safe next year, too. He just They're never going to change from him, I guess. Six and 11 like I'd like to. I'd like to play on the Raiders with the 16 year old kid. I watched play high school football this year, says Derrick Carter. I look forward to that day. Who's the worst quarterback Joe in dynasty? You would trade Aaron Rodgers for straight up. My good team. That would that would matter. I think if I'm a Yeah yes, You are a good team that you want to win this year. You're kind of older and other positions and you're like, sort of set up to win. But you have Aaron Rodgers and he's not showing up. Who's the worst quarter? Would you trade him for Ryan Fitzpatrick? No. It's it's It's a good concept. Would you trade him for car? One for one. No Really? We're getting there, though. We're getting closer. Would you trade him for like 10 of hills? A. Yes, For me. That might be okay. Maybe not a given, but I would do it for Tannehill. I would do it for Is this dynasty we're talking about? Yeah, yeah. So, like any of the young guys, right? Yeah. Fields lands to offer, Bert Yeah. Would you trade him for 21 for one? I I would In this situation, I would I would take tour. I'm just not to think I don't know how to was ever a good fantasy quarterback. There is a big plays there isn't rushing like what is there? Like I don't know where that upside he's may feel to me like may feel very good quarterback in the league. He will never be a dominant fantasy player because it's just not in him. You wouldn't trade Rogers for Mayfield. No. Mhm. Month. Would you trade him from a field may be right in two months. Do you think happens like that hasn't changed at all. I think he just sits out. I, boy, He's going to shock you. Uh, I still think they're going to get somewhere closer to football, starting up and trade him. That's what I think is still going to happen. Yeah, I think they're going to trade him some I mean, once you get into the season in like if Jordan love is in there playing football And like he looks even half decent like then it's definitively over because you're not putting Rogers back in. If you have put your first round quarterback in and it's going even reasonably well, if it tanks and goes horribly, maybe they're more desperate to get him in the building. Then you're kind of giving them away. You think Where you just sort of leave him by the side of the road and play your season without him. Yeah, yeah, I think so. It still looks bad if you give them away If Jordan love in the Packers are three and one and Roger shows back up a month in Like Are you putting your not putting him back in? Well, you could you could. It's weird, but you are giving up on your giving up on the thing that got him upset in the first place. Yeah. Well, yeah, I mean, all that that all that all could happen. Um, I just I don't think it's going to get to that point. I think that they will recognize that but everything I just said about Eichel 20 minutes ago here. I think now you've got the winning and that that does change it like we pointed out, but I think eventually they are going to make friends with the idea that this is not The best way to proceed. We should do the best we can in this now and figure out of Jordan. Love can do this or not, because the sooner we get an answer on that, the sooner we can figure out whether or not we can proceed with him, or we need to go back to the drawing board because Aaron Rodgers hates us. Interesting. So if Paul has a theory on that Yeah. Paul Hamilton. Next Don Granado. Officially, the Sabres new head coach, Mike Show up in the Bulldog W G. Are you listening to Chopin? "They're going to have to do something at the position and you know you and I've talked about it. Did they just bridge to Yuka Peca Lucan in Are they that confident that he's going to be the guy that they don't make any sort of long term commitments or Do they want to be good right away. You know one of the one of the things that have to do with Don Granado. Okay, let's say they hire Granado. It's a young team They're going to want to learn to win. He's going to teach them the way he the way he does, You know, national development team, whatever. We're going to grow as a team. We're not expecting to win the Stanley Cup. Okay, What kind of goal does that team get? The best possible goalie, the young goalie, the veteran guy that they can count on. Do they want to get Marc Andre Fleury right. His name was thrown around like last year. So Vegas is committed to Lennar. Long term. Why would they want to not going to give a flurry? Another contract? So you kind of get to that? I don't know what they're going to do in goal, but they don't have any. They don't have an NHL goaltender under contract so they'll probably bring in two And Hallmark again. He was generally fine. So do you want to pay? Generally find pretty good. Yeah, six million a year because that's what he might want right around right around. Now. Do you try to take a flyer on somebody else's young guy that had a hot year like Carter. Hutton wasn't young when they took the flyer on him fill through power. You want to go give him a big group of U F A in Colorado has cat problems? Go ahead and give him big money, then, right Pheasant, a finalist. You want to go out and give that guy a big contract? I just don't think that's the right approach. Right, so it'll be interesting to see what they do. You know, I I Ideally, you want the goalie that makes you feel great back there every single night, But in a salary cap world you have to. You have to have conversations about every position so It is a more interesting It's a very interesting spot. In terms of what they do, and it feels like the large amount of hockey fans and how the hockey world has kind of accepted the you don't just go out and pay the top goalie on the market, big money the way you would if he's a quarterback, right? We don't do that. But It's almost like a wait and see. Do you have You say no to group our you saying no to Gibson. Who do you say? Yes. To Yeah, well, I'm asking myself that too. Like I don't even know who the who The answer is. There are a truckload of free agent goalies on the market this year. To now, again varying degrees of contract. If you're Philip Group hours, 29, I'm going to guess you're looking for a pretty good sized deal off the season. He just add. Took her ass. Pecker, Rene Frederik Andersen, Devon Dubnyk. Uh, ego. Ego. She's Sturcken. He's restricted. Sorry. Those guys are all U F phase. James Reimer, Peter Marra. Zack, You want him? What about the Florida goalie? The guy that's behind Um, What was it brightens Chris Trigger, Chris trigger. Thank you. Right. He's behind both. Bobrovsky and their first trump expense er night. Yeah, so he's changing to what happens with him, like Is that a guy? I mean, maybe an R F A, Um or are you if I'll double check? Is that an answer for you? Because, you know he's had some success right? And like. It's a he's six ft Four like you might like a tall goalie, But you wouldn't be paying this guy $7 million a year anyway. Well, if you're the Sabres, you might decide again. Like what is Kevyn Adams? How does Kevin Adams view this team? Does he think Our scouts are Pro scouts say this guy is a number one. Yeah, we're going to sign him for five years. 30,000,005 years $35 million. We think he's the number one just Do it. See? But okay, all right, I'll not that I would do this, but I guess if you want to play along on how this all fits, it's entirely possible. Over the next few weeks, Three guys will come off the roster that eat up about $20 Million of Cap space. Michael Reinhardt risk the line in So you would certainly be opening up a lot of cap space. If you wanted to pay a goalie. Big money it gets to for me. I guess it gets to Toby readers going to eat up a lot of that, though. No, no, But Darlene Yoki har you future contract. Borgen. Those are three R F A s middle stats. An R F a splint and R F A Right? But it gets to, I guess you know, I know the position. Yes, the positions important, Ultimately, that's the guy who has to stop the puck and I think, but I still think it comes down to what kind of a team do you have? Like when we're watching? I mean, Carter Hutton turns out to be not so good. But we were watching the Sabres and we're seeing them lose hockey games We're talking about boy. If the goal is could just come up with a clutch, save every now and then to bail out the team when they're making mistakes in front of them. Don't know that Kevin Adams vision should be. We're going to be young from the next 23 years we're going to develop. We're going to have some talent here. We're going to maybe go through some growing pains. We're going to be prone to mistakes. I need a wall back there. I need like a big giant freaking wall to cover up for what this team is going to be going through as it goes through its growing pains. I'm just not a fan of you know you can find a goalie, but whether or not you want to pay him a big, big contract, high cap number long term. I'm just not a fan of that. I just think nobody was talking about Montreal as a model. Now, all of a sudden, they win three playoff series and and Marc Bergeron is the version is all of a sudden the GM of the year when he's been on the hot seat for how many years now in Montreal. It was not a good contract to give out. Nobody in the league thought it was a good contract to give out to carry price. But all of a sudden they make a little run, and now we're looking at them and saying Yep. Do what The Canadians did go sink tons of money into the best goal you can find and bring them in here right now. It's just not the way I would. I know I got to have a good goalie. That doesn't mean you've got to find the most expensive, biggest contract, you know, sink it into a good free agent goalie and pay that guy $678 million a year. No, I just don't think that's the way to go. That's not to me. That's not the correct way to allocate your resources. The thing that Montreal is getting right now. Is first off. They don't have a really high paid forward on the roster, the highest paid salaries Brendan Gallagher 6.5. Josh Anderson Tyler Toffoli. How bout to Foley, who signed for them as a great signing for them? 4.2 you know, that was one of those silly season free agencies where they got what they really came for. Then you've got young and cheap. So if you wanna talk about The Sabres being better. This is this. This is how you again It's not like how you build a roster. Not trying to say Montreal is perfect, but Whole Caulfield 20 years old entry level contract. He's good. Nick Suzuki 21 Entry Level contract. He's good economy. Cut, Kenny Emmy. Sorry of struggling on that again, Um They've They've got young guys that jumped in and have really given them results. And with that, it's one thing that The Sabres have not had that mix right whether it's rushing middle stat or not playing roots align in soon enough, right? It seems like The organization can always claim that the timelines there on are the best. If a guy comes up and does really well in rot does really well after being in Rochester. Well,.

That that did. I mean that that's been Paul's way for many years like I don't know it was going to win. I'm the same way. I don't know who's going to that did get easier the last couple of years. No. Mhm. Right, usually like no, they're not. Probably not. You could Paul you could have, you know, at least stuck your neck out a little bit. I mean, it was easier to predict this team that it has been other times it has, but they surprise you every now and that's right and win a game that they weren't supposed to, or whatever. And A decent so that's hockey. Yeah. Well, um, here we are again without any sort of Exactly any sort of development. We didn't just listen to these comments from Darren Dreger about how he thought he says he thought there could have been an announcement for Granado this week. Paul. It sounds from listening to him like Coach Search is over. And that's what I had told you on. Um, yesterday. I think it was two days ago that I had been hearing the same thing that, uh, you know, it probably could come down this week and somewhere, expecting it to Um I too would say the same thing. What would the holdup be? The only hold up would be as if Number one. You wanted to talk to one of the assistant coaches there in the final Now. Final three. When we talked last time it was final four. Or, you know, there's some type of a hold up in the guy you've chosen who is not named Granado and maybe a contract thing or something like that. You know that you're that you're trying to get all figured out. So, but I too believe that you know, it probably will be Don Granado and, uh, I won't say I'm surprised They didn't announced this week. Not nothing, really in the in sports surprises me too much anymore. Um, but, yeah, it's it's getting down to it and you've done your due diligence. You've done your interviews. Now It's time to move forward Paul and your experience covering these sorts of things. Would. Would you expect that the Sabres in talking with You know who matter? I guess I could decide who they want to disclose this to exactly amongst the candidates, and it sounds like they've talked to quite a quite a large number of guys about this job. Um, what would you think they would be divulging like, Look, we're going to trade Jack. Michael here. Here's what we're hoping to get. Or maybe even not even telling what we're hoping to get What? We're going to trade him. Like, Don't don't come in here. We shouldn't be talking about you taking this job or us hiring you for this job. With you thinking you're going to get to coach Jack like a well, maybe even Sam Reinhart. I don't know how far you want to go down the list. Wrist align is another one who's in the last year and sounds like you know, he certainly welcome getting out of here. So when Kevin Adams says, we want guys who want to be here, I feel like those three guys very obviously are not not in line with that. Um, would they be telling these candidates that up front or do you think that they would be playing it more conservatively? I don't even think they'd have to. I think it's fairly well known that the Sabres have decided they're trading Jack Eichel. Now that could change. How How could that change? Well, you don't get fair value. Well, then you don't trade Jack Eichel. I mean, unless you're not a very good GM. But if you're good GM and you can't get fair value. Then Jack Eichel's just gonna have to suck it up and Play here or whatever. They're going to have to go to some sort of arbitration on the injury or whatever move forward, But I still will staunchly maintained. You just don't Take the best offer available, but you know they've made the decision that they want to move on from Jack Eichel, and he does not fit what Adam's vision is for this team, and, uh, So you know that's that's what they're going to try to do, And I think that's fairly well known knowledge. I don't think Adams would have to spell it out for somebody, but I'm sure he will be happy to in that type of an interview situation. Now next week if they introduced Granado. Well, we should we expect All parties to maintain that they haven't decided on that yet, right? Because they're not going to say I don't know how. I don't know how Adams will word it. But I doubt he would say we have decided to trade Jack Eichel. But he would find because I don't remember. I asked him. I said we're asking the wrong question here. We keep asking you Michaels has to be traded. Have you decided you're going to trade Eichel? He didn't say no right. He kind of danced around it somewhat. But it didn't say no, that's when he got into. You know, we want players here that want to be here, and that's how we're going to build this club and you know when you know how he went through the whole thing that way. So you know, he'll find a way to get around that, But, yeah, I say nothing surprised me That was shocked me if he came out, said No. We've decided trade Jack Eichel. Guys. If you'll indulge me for a moment, I just had a thought. It's It's something that's popped into my head a couple of different times, while the three of us have been talking over the last couple of weeks here Um, is it possible that the holed up in an announcement on the head coach even specifically on Granado, his head coach? Is because they don't want to deal with questions about Eichel or in even even for not just the trade, but his health, right? I mean, we we We're well past that deadline. We last time, Kevin Adams spoke, He said they'd have information to share. Soon and we're three weeks past soon here, I think, um so like, I wonder if they're just trying to avoid having to sit there and fend off speculation about both Iculs health status and his trade status. You know, it's 11 reason why you might want to wait to hire your coach until after Eichel is traded like, Dreger said Today, he thinks that they'll hire the coach before I castrated one reason the way it is to avoid having to answer questions about Eichel. 100% and you as you said, and I think it's an excellent topic an excellent point. Especially if it's done. Granado. What's the rush? If you've decided to hire don Granada and you've told him so?.

"An insider as you are. And I don't talk to people. I just For that straight to happen. You got to get the greatest value can for Michael with the injury with the cap with is celery with everything going on? I just think it's gonna be really hard. I know Petey will take the third overall pick and that's it for Jack Eichel. Right now. Give me give me give me the 12th pick. No, I'm kidding. Yeah, I I think I think times have changed when you're talking about star slash superstar players, um and You know, Of course, Adam's job is to maximize the return for Jack Eichel. For me. It's a foregone conclusion. He's getting traded. Um, so now it's just a question of what are you getting back in return and Um, it's you know, teams are going to try and maximize this The the angle of Well, look at the captain. You know, we're in a flat cap. We can't you know, for us to take that cap hit. You know you're going to have to take back this salary and all of those things they're going to try and Tamp down the deal because of that, But I also feel like there's value in change for certain players and for certain teams, and it definitely feels that way with Jack Eichel in the Buffalo Sabres, it is time took a cot bait and move on. Get whatever you can get, and it's not going to be small. It isn't going. These may be small. It's going to be a good deal, but I don't think it's dissimilar to Pierre Luc Dubois leaving Columbus Packard lining leaving Winnipeg. You had a disgruntled player in Winnipeg, You had a disgruntled player in Columbus to bobbing stars. You'll find a good set, and I think that that's what Kevin Adams is going to do with it with Jack. Okay. How about Vegas, though the trade talk that we had on our group chat last night would be like Alex Tuck. Um, Cody Glass, who is their top prospect and their first round pick dish here, and maybe you gotta throw in another piece or whatnot. Is that reasonable? If you say Vegas on Eichel, are these the pieces or we gotta like Like lower our expectations when it comes to that. Yeah, I mean, Alex talk would be a great get for the Buffalo Sabres if you can acquire him, Um, I wouldn't call him underrated because that's doing a disservice to the knowledge of parking fans. If you watch him closely, man, he does a lot of things well, big body. He can play whatever game you needed him to play. You know, in Vegas, he's playing on their third line, sometimes on the first line. I mean, he's the top six player. There's no question about that. So if he's part of the deal Then it's a good deal. First round pick would be part of it. I'm curious about what Cody Glass is now tracking to become, and I don't know how closely you guys have watched him. It feels to me that he should be a bit further along by now Glad again when you look at the experience of what they have in Vegas upfront, Um maybe that's a little bit unfair to him. But, um, yeah. I mean, if you dig believed beneath the surface, and you look at some of the other elements of it, you know, is tax contract going to be enough to swing that deal because No, it's not like the Vegas Golden Knights have been proven to us that they can go through the sport of cap gymnastics as well or better than most clubs in the National Hockey League, So there's going to have to be a strong financial element who had coming back if Vegas is involved. In my opinion, I want to ask you about coach before we get out of here, but I looked up Cody Glass last night, and I'm going to tie these right where he needs to be in his development. I mean, he's he's had has awesome numbers in the minors. Amazing Junior numbers solid numbers in the NHL for a kid who has just been dabbled in here or there, so You know, I I think that that would be ideal. Returning that deal to you get a glass of talking the first. I mean, that's all that's all I'd take. That's all I need from Vegas and you're You're absolutely done. Do you think the Jack Eichel trade will happen before the coach hire? Um, what is the holdup on the hiring of Don Granado? Yeah, it's a good question. I still believe that Don Granado is the strong front running candidate are you do? I actually thought that we might be lucky enough to have the announcement this week. I'm not sure what's holding it up. I was told yesterday that it won't be this week, hopefully early next week. Um, that are coaches hired or that don Granados announced. Um well again, I'm I am heavily leaning to don Granado being announced, But you know Buffalo did interview. Rick talk it at least twice, right. Um and Wasn't shocked that Rick talking didn't get the Seattle job. I think I was more surprised that Dave Hack still did. You know, I I like Dave Hack stall as a coach. It's just, you know, for your first coach, you know, it feels to me that wreck target would have made a a bigger splashing of the history with talking. And Ronnie Francis and in Seattle, Rick talk. It's a heck of a coach. Hard to imagine that he's not going to have a chair a bench to to start next season, so the fact that he hasn't been plucked yet. Does that encourage Adams and company to circle back or if they made their mind up on Donna Granado? I think it's the latter. I think it's the latter. What? They're waiting for a reason. So I think that coaches named before Jack Eichel gets traded. Okay?.

"Because they really seem to be responding to Granado and responding to his messages. You know he's not hearing a lot of negatives. When it comes to Don Granado what's going on with the team, he said. The guys really seemed to like him, and they seem to be responding to oven. You don't need to say that. I mean, he kind of knew knows he's not the door and That type of thing, And he knows Don Granado from the program, the U. S program. You know they were together there. But, uh so at least, you know, he Think if it turned out that he had to play another year in Buffalo. I don't think he'd break into hives. If he was playing with Don Granado. I think he'd be fine with it. Paul, how tradable is cycle with his injury status. I still think he's tradable and Don't. This is my thought. I mean, I have no, this is the fact based. I haven't talked to anybody but I'm kind of thinking to myself if Michael were traded to a Stanley Cup contending teams We should think that maybe he might back off his surgery thing. And say. Yeah, I remember the Colorado Avalanche now. Okay, I'll do it Your way. You tell me what you want. I'll do your way. You know, because he's on us family up contending team so I think something like that could maybe change his mind and back him off. Whole thing where maybe playing for the Sabres would do that. You know he this is what he wants, and he's going to go forward with it, but I could definitely see him lightening up. And you know, being really staunch on the surgery if he went to a team that he truly felt had a chance to win the Stanley Cup next year. Well, if it's not obvious, I would just say that and not that this even matters necessarily, but it would just all be revealed as a ploy. If he were to do that. Right. I mean, what we've been told is that he's dog in, as are the Sabres about His situation and if he suddenly decides that it's not that big a deal because I'm on a better team now. I mean, what would you think? Yeah, exactly that. And that's why I also feel that I think Michael made this decision before he hurt his neck. I I with what he said last year, and he never asked to be traded last year, but he definitely was upset. With the way things had gone and You know, so he, uh You know, I think once the Sabres were losing so badly, I mean, Mike, they were out of it. In the first month of the year. We got the one month point and they were out of it. There was no chance. They had no chance of making the playoffs. Mathematically they did. But with the division they were in there was zero chance they were making the playoffs. There were one month into the year. So I wouldn't be shocked at all. And that's when he made his decision that you know what? This isn't working out. It's It's going to be time to leave Paul Hamilton along on the Western Hotline. I'm Mike Shope Bulldog is off today. Paul Owen power The It's not the consensus number one pick, but maybe the likeliest possibility there for the Sabres at 101. What have you learned about him? Yes, I think the world championship as far as solidifying that number one position really did him wonders. Um I wasn't surprised today when he was on the NHL network and indicated that Right now, he's thinking he'd like to go back for his sophomore season at the University of Michigan. He said. It wasn't the typical type of year that you have in college. There were no fans. They couldn't go to the N C double a tournament because of Covid. Restrictions that had happened to the University of Michigan program. So you know he didn't have that. And there are some people that believe that It really Isn't. Anybody in this draft is ready for the NHL, though I think power showed us that maybe he is where he could play in the NHL with the way he played at the World championships, so But he indicated very strongly that and he said, you know, I would talk to the team and see what they thought and talk to the people around me. But he goes right now I'm more leaning towards going back to Michigan. For another year. Now, the Buffalo News is mistakenly reporting that that's the Sabres choice. It is not Savers. Technically can't even talk to him. I mean, guys who wear their jersey You know, you get the same for Jersey when your pig number one when you actually is a draft in an arena. College players have to give their jersey back after they take the pictures. Mean they can't have contact with with the NHL GM until they have decided that yes, I'm going to leave, and then you can have contact. So I'm not naive to think that Somebody in or the nose. Oh, and power is going to be talking to Kevin Adams. And you know, going over the pros and cons of whether he plays sophomore season at Michigan or not quiet. But they can't force own power to come out of college. If he wants to play his second year. It is not the Sabres decision, and I want to make that perfectly clear that it is. Oh empowers decision to make With, you know, knowing how the Sabres would feel about it. You know, when Mill Stack did and our middle stat was the eighth overall pick, he went to Minnesota. He didn't dominate. The Sabres supported his decision to leave Minnesota after one year which I thought at the time with I don't know about that, even though he had dominated the world junior tournament in Buffalo. You would have expected him to dominate his freshman season at Minnesota. He didn't Was it cold coffee, okay? I mean, Cole Caulfield played two years of Wisconsin Hobey Baker Award winner this year. He's doing real well with the Montreal Canadians, one of the reasons why the Canadians are here in the semi finals, and he played three years. Wisconsin, uh and and I thinking, you know, felt that he needed those two years..

"Your time, right? Generally, at least So Do I have it right. Like Granado and college coaches, however. Many and whoever they may be. I mean, if if that really is the field, Granado should be the coach of the sabers bulldog like I think that's probably right. What would what would You could give any reason you're the sabers. You give any reason. But what is he gonna price them out? Like? He did well enough. You kind of like the vibe, So let's keep going. Um yeah, I would. I would say that. I mean, and really, I I want them. I do respect. I know, like the things people say in those jobs like Kevin Adams. Um you know, we we poke we poke it them. Um, but in this instance I don't mind going through talking to a bunch of people like you might learn something you might have in the back here. Mind I've got Don Granada in my hip pocket and and and that's the score to beat. I really like how he talks about the game and talks about our team. We know he gets on with the players and assuming that's all authentic, which I have no reason to think it's not. Um, but you still I think can sit down with someone who's been coaching hockey for, you know, a toe high collegiate level for five years, 10 years, 20 years and maybe learn something about your team, and even about how you go about it. So if you've got the resource is and these guys want to take these interviews than I think you should. You should do it. You should take. You should take your time. And do that, Um, because you might somebody might blow you away. Somebody might also shine a light on something or just tell you something about your team in a way that you hadn't thought about it that could help you. And so I think it's worth going through it, even if you sort of You know, have a destination in mind when you start out. I guess. Isn't there may be an advantage to putting Granado in there, just putting him in the job and What do you want out of the off season? You want to restore some credibility? With maybe with your players, maybe within the league with in league circles. I'm not sure exactly to what extent that's lacking, or that's been lost, but it would seem possible that it could be to some extent. Lacking or lost, so Think with fans, too. The sabers have a big job here. And they may end up trading Jack Michael away. So I'm not sure how well you can expect to do day one with your fans going to next year, But I would say, you know, there have been many times, bulldog when We talk and fans interact with us, and it sounds a certain way in the sabers do something else. Seven many times is that with the roster it's happened with other decisions, administrative decisions. Uniforms, It's happened lots of times. And so the public isn't always going to be right. And anyone's read of the public doesn't even have to be right. Right? But I think Renato made a made a good impression. I think he definitely did. And you, You just use the word credibility a minute ago, Right? Um I think there is something to be gained by not appearing to be in a hurry. Toe hire the guy who won nine games permanently OK? You don't like the bar was so e mean just so low. Um, that, you know. Yeah, they you know Casey, Mittelstand Rastus, darling. Like, you know, everyone knows the list of things that looked better under Don grotto. Um, but it still was like, Couldn't he be coach? Almost half the games. They play 28 1919 1919. I mean, you know Oh, I got to make sure I get that. And he's not like a candidate really anywhere else. So I gotta make sure I get his signature real quick. Like you know, nothing against the guy. But take your time. You know, like I I would like you to make sure there isn't somebody that turns out to be more qualified. And I know we might not trust that person as much as Granato because we haven't spent some time with him and everything. So like But it might seem fruitless to spend the time if you know where you're going to end up anyways, But I don't know I I don't want them. I can't I'm having a hard time articulating and I think it's obvious, but I guess I don't want them to be in a hurry to sign the guy who won nine games. No, I know what you mean. But I think that could be looked at another way. And that's a guess how I'm looking at it, which is you have a lot of questions to answer as it is. And the sooner I can get that one out of the way. I think the better. I think the happier I'll be. I can use him in terms of P R I can use. I don't want to overstate just like what he is, but Like I can sort of. I can do the marketing thing with him. I can do the player interactions with him. If I'm going to be scouting and out there. I've got a gonna put him in the job so that I could get the most out of him. If you will. In this off season, and I think probably what you're doing through the interviews is maybe like a couple things You said Sure they work like I'm finding out about my team, whatever but What will it look like? If the sabers announce that they've hired a coach from hockey East to take over, like, will that be? Will people be impressed with that? Maybe you should be. I mean, that's not a nothing entity or anything. It's also not Bruce Boudreau and Claude Julien. And those guys are the guys that I'm here for, because that's your credibility and in terms of players and fans, that's how you That's how you demonstrate your serious team. But you know, that doesn't mean you have to do that to win. And I don't think the sabers are really interested in that They haven't shown it all. Ever through Kruger or any of it that they're interested in those guys. I like I like that, like at the at the point where Krueger was fired, because you get him in here, Get a head start on next year. All that sort of stuff. Um, I think if you're trading away, Jack Eichel Ah, and you know to an extent starting over yet again. I almost feel like I'm disqualified from hiring one of those guys..

"So looking back at the Don Granado tenure as the in term head coach of the Buffalo sabers. We like What he said he joins. Myself Howard and Jeremy every Tuesday morning at eight o'clock, We get his thoughts on the team. We get his thoughts on what's going on, not only with his team but also just kind of everything else that's going on. And There are a lot of things that don Granato has said. That we all loved to hear, and and Jeremy had the phrase. Put this quote on a banner from Don gonna Granato put it on a banner talked about Rasmus Darlene and just letting him kind of be himself. He also just wants the team to play their game and not worry about anything else not even worry about. You know the standings cause that the point he took over the team was already The worst team in the NHL, one of the worst teams in the NHL. I mean, when you took over, I think the losing streak at that point was at 12. Winless streak. However, you want to declare it. There should be a new record in the NHL, where it is losing losing streak after the salary cap era because that once the salary cap got established in 5 4006. There were no more ties. So you couldn't consider it a winless streak. You were going to lose a game and the sabers lost 18 straight games, but the NHL only wants to consider it a winless streak. That's fine. That's fine. Whatever. So Don Renato takes over in the middle of that winless streak. He misses one of the games because he had entered the cove in 19 protocols for a false positive test comes back the next day, rejoins the team and finally End of March. Savers almost went the entire month of March on a losing streak the last day of March. They break that 18 game winless streak with a 61 win over the Flyers. Very impressive, and from there Everything's gone fairly well for Don Granato. If you take out the five games That I that I think he coached. If I remember correctly, he coached five Kevin Adams did the one Don Granado, Technically. Is Faring pretty faring pretty well. I've got his hockey reference page for his coaching stats up at on my computer here and right now through 27 games. I think the record technically counts on him even that one game where Kevin Adams stepped in 9 15 and three Is his record in 27 games. Not great. But considering everything that has happened with the team and the turnaround that we've seen from some of these younger players, especially the Casey middle stats that age Thompson's the Rasmus aspirins we've seen are two routes the line and play really well. Night in and night out. We've also seen you know Dylan cousins, despite him, not scoring recently, he's been He's been contributing. He's been really putting in good efforts night in night out, and I don't think there's any question about Dylan cousins effort. I think he gives it 110% 110% of the time honors Bjork's since he came over in the Taylor Hall trade. He's really played incredibly well, playing all sorts of roles in this team. All the young guys. Rasmus. Darlene Henry. Okay, How are you on the blue line? These guys have really stepped up their game and if performed really well, Matisse. Samuelson, since coming in, has surprisingly been a good contributor for the sabers organization on the Blue line. With that. You know, we've also seen the older veteran players, some of them step up their games. Sam Reinhart has been electric since he has had Don Granato takeover. He's been arguably one of the better goal scorers in the entire NHL since then. Think Victor Olson's game has stepped up and has been much better since then. I think that we've seen a guy like Drake could jeweler even though he's only got a handful of games with the Saber since being claimed off waivers from Arizona. I think as of late, he's put in a lot of good efforts, and he's been really contributing towards a lot of positive things happening on the ice. And especially as of late. Jeff Skinner has started to come around with his game. He scored on the power play. Hey, who knew Jeff Skinner? Good on the power play? Ralph Krueger didn't know because he didn't ever play Jeff Skinner on the power play. Jeff Skinner scored his first power play goal the other night. Since the Phil Housley coaching era. The 18 19 season. Yeah. Spend that would spend that long. So Jeff Skinner gets there and that the rest of the team Seems like they've kind of been rejuvenated under Don Granato. Now you could look at that and say, OK, that's positive, but The team was already well out of the playoffs. Went down. Granado took over. Well out of the playoffs. So he takes over team starts to turn around. They play well. But they still finish last. They're still in dead last in the NHL. They're going to be dead last they're going to have the best odds of drafting with the number one overall pick. In this year's draft will get to the draft talk a little later with it. Steve Cornea knows This year's draft class. Is not a spectacular draft. Now coming up in the next two drafts. There's going to be Heck of a talent at the top, Not just one heck of a talent but a couple heck of talents at the top. However, you want to phrase that Couple of guys in the 2022 NHL draft and the 2023 NHL draft that have super star potential to their names. Lexi LA premiere last year, I said, was as pretty darn close as you can get to a generational player, and it didn't start all that well with the Rangers, but he was pretty good. This year. The crop of players are good, but there's nobody that stands above everyone else. And it's just like, Oh, this guy. This guy right here is going to be a superstar. Next two drafts after this one. The talent is incredible. At the top. Shane right, Brad Lambert next year. And the year after that, you've got Connor Bernard and Matt. Debate vich Cough in 23rd 2023. I'm 2013. I don't know why. But I mean the draft this year, the sabers finished. Amy. I think a lot of people around here don't want this team to finish last. I certainly am beyond The days back of mechanical years where it was just like you kind of wanted them to finish last..

"Say me. I wanted to jump right into I like to have some fun question who are some of your Idols as a kid. Did you look up to I know you're a little bit on the younger side, but I don't know if you fall in like Bobby or or or a boar or any of the current players like Patrice Bergeron. Do you have any female athletes that you looked up to who were some of your athletes ours that got you so close on Sports at such a young age. Yeah, I think we always talk about like if you can see it you can be it and like growing up. I was like I want to play in NHL. That's all we really kind of like had and I grew up like watching the Bruins. So like I grew up watching Patrice Bergeron and Milan Lucic in Chara and off like Tim Thomas and like all of those like Bruins players and I think that I like love the Bruins growing up and those were my like those were my role models but then wage as I got older and older and and like in middle school and end of elementary school and high school. I was like, I started seeing females in and seeing them play and I was like, oh I want to go to prep school. I want to go play college hockey and that's when I think some college hockey players like marie-philip Poulin like she played a few and she's on Team Canada and she was like abused are and just juice. Such a great leader and then I think but from the USA side like Contra Granado and like Meghan Duggan and all like a j like those those women were really big role models to for me and followed hockey and played Sports and my parents started the high school team in our town.
