I don't think anybody ever gets in this business and it's not about wanting to play live. I think that that's the impotence of everybody wanted to be a rock stars to grow in front of thousands of people and The guitars cranked up and swing and sweat and all that stuff and it's always great. I love you know for me, you know, design and stages and all that's fun into the lighting's show and all that's fun and Fans get a kick out of that first and foremost thing for me. Is it sound great. I want everything to sound as great as I could make it sound. I want it to sound. It's close to the record as I could get it to sound and have the energy and Excitement. Everybody wants nothing. What you have to do is you have to walk out there. And there's a sort of a son spoken contract between you and the audience that you're just gonna both sort of. Submit to this conducive environment. Let the music take over. And sort of just fall into the river together, And I think that that's what you look forward. You know, most nights it happened some nights. E only felt this was appropriate for that absolutely is appropriate because of toy store the movie, Mr and Mrs Potato Head or a big part of that movie. Good call Emily. Yeah, So if it was a hot topic on our Facebook group this week, I'll say that maybe you set it up because you put it out there. So said set up the hot topic. It was. Hasbro made a decision to take Mr Potato. Ted. Take the Mr out of Mr Potato Head, Um for den for gender reasons. What kind of like when you say gender reasons like they wanted to go. They want Mr Potato Head to be both android Montana gender neutral, and then it exploded. And then Hasbro kind of followed up because they got a backlash of feedback from people from all over saying, how can you do this? You know you have a Mr You have a Mrs Just keep Mr Mrs Potato head the way that they are, and they were dropping the mister from the very and dropping them, Mr Become or Jew gender neutral, And then they received a bunch of backlash. And then they issued another statement, they say Well, it's really not going to go anywhere because they're going to be the rebranding and they're going to make Mr and Mrs Potato head part of that. Hasbro name, but the rebranding name is going to be under Mr and Mrs. It's so confusing the way they worded it. It's like why, Why even do that in general, because first of all, it's a potato. You could make it any way you want to make it and you've got the Mr represented and you've got the missus represented. Why? Why just go through the message change again. You're causing all this controversy, and then they have to make another statement and kind of clean up what they started. It's just become a mess, a potato mess. Bunch of mashed potatoes, a bunch of mash and messed potatoes. Just leave it So I said I would I had said to Mindy. You know for me, it doesn't make a difference because The potato heads don't have Dingell's and dangle. That's what I was going to say. I mean, I don't know just you can put them on like, you know, you could just I never thought about it being a girl or guy you played many played with him differently. You can just like I always switch mine up and everything I felt like, so I don't know. And do you really think kids are thinking? Not once it's made an issue. I feel like I just I just don't know why they go through this. And my question is, Is it going to hurt them? Is it going to hurt their bottom line? Because I know there will be parents now that forget it. I'm not gonna buy anymore. You know that. I think that way. So I will say this. I haven't mentioned this to either of you yet, but it goes with this conversation. Have two parents, two moms that I know here in Columbus. Who's 10 and 11 year old daughters have decided they're non binary. And how would you say they're dying to 11 or 10 and 11? And one of them actually has a blogged on guys talking about it the other day, and I was reading the block and I was reading 10 and 11, 10 and 11. Okay, I was I was reading the block and I was thinking about it and how hard It would be to have your child like I think that I want to. I want to be open to my Children. I want to love them, no matter what, right like I I really do We our job as I don't parent very well. They don't make them pick up who make him pick up poop, But I want it. I want to accept them as they are and have unconditional love for my Children. Tough love when it needs to be picking up poop. But I'm I don't know how I would react. I have to admit it would be really, really hard. That's just what I'll say. It'd be really, really hard if I had If one of my sons didn't know, And I don't know how I would be. And I don't know how to react. So I'm just saying that out loud based on this story, and these two moms that I'm seeing dealing with us right now, and one who I've known for many years, man, I think, 10 and 11 I just think it's so young. I just really wanted so young. I I guess the big part of me is I'm a very religious person. You know, I just am. I believe in God, I believe in Christianity. Did you know I am too I know that..

And i was doing my first ever interviewed him now at that time was leon was one of the most famous latinos that i had ever met and what i remember the most was that he wasn't afraid to be himself. He was eccentric and a true bohemian artist. That was truly one incredible guitarist who couldn't get much padma five separate night. All oh and that air of confidence translates musically to everything hosts it touches. And if this is the first time you've heard of jose feliciano and you're not sure you know him. Well listen to this. Bobby bobby doc. That's what set feliciano's mega nineteen seventy. Christmas hit police one of the all time most famous christmas songs in the world but with a career that spans almost six decades ho says major milestones have come from him putting his own personal stamp a mix of soul folk latin and blues on well known songs whether that's of the past visa goddess. Zing zing on saying were classic rock songs three monks and even star spangled banner. Here's his iconic performance from a world series game in one thousand nine hundred sixty eight. Oh a that may sound like an average game day performance but it was a risk that then three year old. Jose took during the height of the vietnam. War with his soulful rendition. Jose open the door for other artists to perform the national anthem in their own unique ways there was born in nineteen forty five in lettuce puerto rico and has been blind since birth. He was five years old when he and his family migrated to spanish harlem and it was in new york city for. He developed his love for music and crafted his skills on the guitar. In the nineteen sixties or say went on to become an international sensation especially in latin america. And since then he's performed on themed stages around the world. When was the first time that you remember hearing the sound of the guitar and was in an instant was it. Just like Yes it was. You hit the nail on the head. How how did you did. You live with me have you. What are you just like. You just like telling jokes all the time. Is that where. I'm sorry to say that has been my way of accepting the fact that i was blind that i wasn't normal A what at least people around me thought normal should be because in latin family if you have some kind of disability they start thinking oh my god. Lecrae On Overcoming Trauma, Abuse And Addiction To Be Your Best

"Ladies and gentlemen welcome to the addicted to success podcast. I'm your host. Joe brown and i'm here today with grammy award winning artist activists and new york times bestselling author loughrey. Cray has a new book. That has come out its code. Im restored lost my religion but found my face. And if you're on the other side of this episode right now listening and you have struggled with things such as abuse trauma divorce division addiction or hopelessness. The craze hit a tell you that there is a way to break through this so the cray thank you so much should be in here brother. I'm excited to dive into these powerful conversations. Thank you appreciate ogden. Awesome so the cray. I've read your book. I m restored. There's so much juice in them and i I resonate with a lot of your journey. I personally was in the music industry now in the entrepeneurship space and tell you what man being a man of faith and walking in the secular world just that pulled. The secular world has at times and the temptation. That's a play. I can understand if if you've had these crazy experiences in your life and you have your wounds in the trauma. That's that suppressed. I can understand how it's tries to play out on an unconscious level. So let's dive into this man. A lot of the audience are predominantly entrepreneurs. The very much on the run you know. They're chasing success. There high achievers it may even be overcompensation area success. But what would you say for you. Was this like pinnacle moment in your life where you realized that you needed some healing to take place. Now i come from a background where it ain't broke. My biological father struggled with affirmation and approval. I was always kind of like on the low in the totem pole. So i had to fight for everything. I had to scrap to fill a sense of value. And that carried over into my pursuit of you. Know my success Outside of the musician you know you're you're moving a million miles an hour trying to be an entrepreneur trying to be an author trying to be all these particular things and I always say like this. The way i knew i needed. Killing was not because all of a sudden the success stopped. It was because the engine on my boat ran out of gas. And let me break that down for you. Most entrepreneurs successful people would liken themselves to motorboats or speedboats and we are speedboat. You're moving a million miles an hour quickest as possible but what ends up happening eventually. Is you run out of gags in. None of our biggest fear is being a raft. We don't want to be the type of person she carried by the way we don't want to be type of individual that is just like i don't know what's going on. I'm just going to let life happen. We wanna be go getters but in going so fast you run out of gas and i had to learn that i was meant to be a sail boat. A sailboat put working. You put hard work and effort in but there's an understanding of the wind. There's a time when you understand when it's time to let the sales up when it's time to have them down when it's time to turn the rudder All encompassing act in i was a speedboat moving so fast thinking i was just gonna accomplish everything and then i ran out of gas and gas round. The gas for me looked like depression. Looked like anxiety. Look like coping mechanisms. Yeah powerful it. It sounds like you started to notice this kind of this disorder in your life right. I remember watching the series that you put out on on youtube recently director series. Man i love what you said in the first episode. There where you said it's like you you wake up in the morning and you see beautiful things and you know that it's beautiful but you can't appreciate it now. I'm sure there's somebody listening right now for sure that can resonate with that. And that's struggling with that. How did you work your way out of this depression. Yeah i mean that's the tough part right is when you're used to work in and accomplishing goals. You think there's a way. I can fight my way through this or there's some kind of you know book i can read or thing i can do and unfortunately the reality of it is that your your nervous system your body your past traumas. All of them need time to heal and they need attention. And so you you have to now be as passionate at. I had to be as passionate as i was about my healing process as i was about everything that was doing that. Got me into that. That dr place in so. It took a lot of time effort energy. You know counseling matter meditation. Medication all of it In order to get myself to a place where i was functioning in i was healing.

"So this sound the Medea when they made the same holidays, execute each would be very different and we have incorporated. That's right now if you're at legal in Los Angeles, and I would say global launch and from. Yeah, they would expand this to all the countries of the woods in the coming months. And the also blink release. I had with like veil featuring this ad on the night off Grammy award. And they also partnered with my Shinoda who is a goal at off Lincoln fog, and he has faded of melody in the idioms rendre a lot of exciting things going on. And it's all the big inning today here in Los Angeles. Well, I I play a pretty mean harmonica. I could maybe do a version of it here. You sure that your love to listen to that. When you already exactly say, right. I really I really liked the idea that you sit saves the it doesn't make people fatigue. So as as a shopper that means just because I just pull my car through one time, I'm ready to pull it through again. And you as you said, the the clerks will begin to get a lift in a field every time they complete a transaction for recline that is certainly going to be very positive making music more and part of our everyday life and more top of mind to take our mind off of that balance. So xactly, all right. And so I think as mentioned in the intro, we've all experienced as consumers just across the board. There's this big resurgence in audio. Right. I mean from all the devices, we're talking to to our digital vices were interacting with and there's much more of a preference to ask a question and to interact on a verbal rather than touching screen, but executive I and fire products ample we have car from because. Dot com. And where we make expedients of actually once in a lifetime that you can purchase and the first experiment. We have integrated with Alexa. So you have ended lecture. You want experiences available depending on where you're traveling and can make his rank from within that moment. So you don't enter a single thing physically. It's all based and the whole action into an happens seamless and a very company fashion. It's very very cool. And so Finally, I guess it's kind of the next ration-. We think about branding. Obviously, you're the chief marketing officer, you're you know, about branding. That's what you do every day. So when we think about branding. Well, think about the the image of a logo which you're adding to this mix is the audio cues right at it's completely dimension. Yeah. It's a my sensitive for all not just to is also years we want to connect with country. Than a meaningful and a seamless fashion. So I know you're out there Grammy's, and we're getting pretty close to the end of our time here. But I know you've got some favorites you looking for coming down runway. So you want share some of those some some of those us rush? Yeah. Know, we have come as brand. And obviously different. I'll be very biased. But I think she's a powerful of talent during the opening what do you call? She going to open the one and the opening actors and video excited for her. She's got a couple of nomination. So hopefully, she'll come away from that with some sexes and looking forward to it. Another thing to mention all the beat is in MasterCard dot com. "Number of total gifts up each year, and they all equality gifts. And so this year, I was asked to be the chairman of the Gasparilla bowl committee. And so based on my former obviously college experience plan in bowl games and things like that. And one of those bowl games being in the Tampa Bay area. Now back bowl we played. And so that knowing the background of of of a college athlete, and then also being able to pair it with an event that I was already doing two days later, anyway, December twenty second from ten to one AM to four one PM we're going to be given out well over three ten thousand gifts to kids and families in need. We will also surprised three families that are need of transportation with a new pre-owned car. We have Yolanda Adams who's a five time multi platinum Grammy award winning artists coming down and the whole concept with that is to get two hundred kids from throughout the Tampa Bay area from all walks of life to sing a song with her as well as two hundred adults from various backgrounds to sing a song. We're her them. Both groups will sing a song with her as well at school. We also have designer coming down who's a grandma. Award winning a Grammy award winning a nominee rap artists. That'll come down, and he's an and it's just tying everything in with being able to bring people from all walks of life into one area every year you guys participate in numerous charities throughout the year, especially during the holiday season, and my whole belief is that why do it if we if people wanna give and north Tampa when people want to give us south Tampa and people want to give an east and west Tampa. Why can't we all just do it in one or even one place? Bring him over.

"How you love. Somebody could be how you walk down the street. So creativity can be expressed in so many different ways. So I think people are under the impression that they're they're they are either creative. They're not. But everybody's creative. Creativity is. I have to say this. It's the key to my life creativity. Being creative is the most important thing to me not money. Not success not Grammy awards being creative. If I can get a Grammy award, and it allows me the opportunity to be more creative. I'm very happy. I that's I can't say that strongly enough that just being creative is the most important thing. I think for I think for everybody that just don't realize it. Let us which little bit and mobile politics since this is a. In work that is maybe not political has contacted. What do you think the relationship is between Artem politics just in history? And are you seeing any change in the current climate? I don't. I don't see a straw connection between politics and the arts. I mean, there are there are things politically that affect the arts, obviously funding the things like that that can be changed because of the political climate. I do know that as we reflect when we ebben flow in terms of our administration's locally as president whatever. In terms of how we support arts and schools and. It's like to take away a music program in arts program in a school. Because while how important it is people. Don't look at it as a priority. They look at it as a luxury. The arts. And I think music in particular is not a luxury because people kids who study music or are in school do better in their other subjects, so if if people understood that we will be advancing and growing the arts in schools because it makes kids smarter. It makes kids do better in school. So I think obviously would have to be dealt with on a political level and. I despite the fact that I grew up in an environment of political awareness with my parents, I have never been particularly political. In terms of being an activist of being active in pursuing supporting my political ideals until now I feel like I'm a lot more than I ever have been. What were you able to say with the music that the speeches themselves did not say, I chose these speeches? Because they they were important historically. And they inspired a lot of people. I mean, the JFK I inaugurations spire. Joe Lieberman to choose public service as a career because he heard that as a teenager. Those things are important to me. I love the idea that the speeches. Can inspire somebody? And if you look at great political rhetoric. I mean Reagan was a good speaker Churchill was amazing because he was so gruff and from his heart, and it was very personal Jeff came in a lot of these people had writers, but the LBJ speech, given a nineteen sixty five we shall overcome which I used so heavy every time I hear I cry Martin Luther King cry when he heard this live on the radio. I'm not hearing anything and right now. And I haven't for a while. I mean. The idea of someone getting up there representing. Ideals in inspiring a group of people to come together work towards something to make this place. A better make this world better place. I don't feel like we're dealing with that right now. And I think it's a shame. It's tough talk about that. Because..
