"Need to bring them down. So there is very clear relationship between the anxiety mood as well as what you call the the microbiome and how we feel As what yeah in this in this makes a lotta sense now. Why you know. Some of these antidepressant medications like aren't effective. Like if this is a reason why we're depresses due to our gut health and we just throw a bunch of drugs down our throat which is obviously going to have a negative impact on the health in in of itself. It's obviously not going to be be the cure here for for the depression. I'm curious if your research has shown you know like with some of these depressed patients like what has been the cause of the imbalance in the gut. Microbiome has shown that it's more due to stress in depressed patients or is it is hard to kind of get to. What is the cause of of the imbalance in the gut microbiome. It's like in biology. Things are very complex. It's like not one reason to do like for example. And that's why when i say i can give you example for You know let's take the three different lifestyles we talked about. If you don't sleep very well guess what you are depressed. In fact a study was done in italy looking at govett patients because of the lockdown. You know what they found. They found the twenty three percent of those people showed had depression with forty percents of them had very poor sleep or sleep disturbance so to me. One of the things you need to do is start to have really better sleep okay because leave have a dialectic fucks on the micro and when you have really very nice you know sleep for example. You'll see these microbes. You know what they do. They secrete some chemicals they called metabolites or basically small chemicals such as gamma gamma. I mean i it. It's one of those short chain fatty acid. Which is secreted. I don't want it to make it too. Complicated scientifically basically they secrete some molecules and these small kills or compounds they are neurotransmitters which affect our brain and they promote really sleep so if you sleep well then guess what you're gonna improve the diversity and the balance of the microbial. Okay same could be said about you know since you exercise so let me talk to you about exercise. Okay because this is really very very important. You know with covered again as an example. I'm not just sticking to covet but it's as good example because we all living it now. What we what are we doing these days. We are staying very little physical activity you know. How many zoom calls. I have i have a day. Maybe four five. Oh my god by the end of the day. I am zoomed out.

"The <hes> <hes> head of the massachusetts told me that you would often hear them say you know old burn is what they call him old vern. He knows he was running the navy. It's us we're on the hotlines and we're not gonna let him doubt in so this shift in the navy's culture release started value in giving a voice to enlisted sailors had a huge impact in about eighteen months. First term enlistment went from at times under twenty percent to almost sixty percent so it was you know went multiples and the navy had more enlisted sailors than they knew what to do with after the culture change. So there's another example a culture that really connected with enlisted sailors in this case that that made a difference in terms of employee retention. So we'll we'll end on this and you. You sort of talked about a little with the costco case. Study but you know the elephant Around a lot of this stuff is financial compensation I was just reading a study by Economists name sylvia allographs the stay that some of the notions of labor shortage are more about wages than there about anything else. So you know how. What is the relationship between wages. <hes> british compensation and emotional compensation in instances. Like these will. It's it's really both that matter note and there's no question that emotional compensation is an issue because for people on the low end of the pay scale. Their compensation has been stagnant for years. And so they're sensitive to a wanting to earn more money for their for their families for themselves so no question. That's an issue. However emotional compensation is a huge issue to and let me just cite some data on that <hes> gallup's research search. They mentioned earlier. That said Negative emotions have been rising for years. Peaked in twenty twenty. Here's some other research that stood out to me in gallup's studying they have far and away the most information on this these particular issues and they had studied. This is workers in the us and canada and they found that they reported on the previous day forty three percent. Ross responded that they had experienced stress forty one percent experienced worry twenty five percent experience sadness and twenty four percent experienced anger so these are negative emotions. That really have the heaven affect on people's health. They take these emotions home in the workplace in their family and friends experience. Their anger oftentimes. So it's a real advantage for organizations. You know this may sound bleak. Some of the things. I've shared. But i see it as a huge opportunity for organizations to improve their work cultures and gain performance advantage. If they do yeah. It's it's certainly something that i think you know as as you've written about there's a new work sort of culture from a lot of this remote stuff and that makes it much more difficult to feel that kind of connection and This certainly is a part of that in a such mike. "From cylinder. Sounds like at some point. Scott taylor was a big deal in the gay porn world. It's unfortunate that The movie he starred in had such a generic name solo. Jerry i love that juicy djorkaeff sound restock looped up all right. Well you get the idea. Thank you so much tyler source wrecks or tracking down the episode of dick legends featuring scott taylor. Oh by the way speaking of gays. I guess i have to apologize on behalf of my gay brothers and sisters and my god. We need to come up with a term for a sibling who is non binary gender binary. You know what i mean. Yeah if they don't go by he or her. What would you call your sibling. They would probably be offended if you call them brother or sister. May i suggest other ling. Right like sibling. But they're something other than brother or sister or maybe a them star. This is my dempster krondl. Crime krondl is a good gender neutral name. I feel like it. You know if you're going to go by pronouns like they are them you should not have a gender name like kristol or mark or the most masculine name of all. Tim you should go. You should pick name. That doesn't have a lot of gender baggage that comes along with it. Like krahn sounds like an alien from star. Trek i am. I'm looking for captain kirk. I empire the transgender federation. I don't know how i got off track. That has nothing to do with what i'm about to talk about. But as a member of the league. Bits community i. I guess i have to apologize to all the normals out there. Sorry for bringing upon this plague known as kovin. I didn't know i had anything to do with it. You know in the eighties not to make everything about hiv aids but one could argue. It was primarily spread by gay people. We didn't know what was we. I mean you know. I was a fucking toddler at the time. Don't drag me into this. But i'm just saying gay people didn't know what was causing it how it was spread and even after we found out how it was spread. It's very hard to get gay. People to stop fucking. That's a big. Ask try to get people to stop having sex right or even worse have sex with a condom air like seventy percent of the fun of anyway. New information has revealed that yes. Gays are behind cove. Head what is the source of this information. Some random fucking religious kook. That's where i get all of my medical information. So i'm taking this gospel. The last letter in the lgbtq is q. for questioning which is the mission to confused kids enough. They questioned their sexuality so they can be groomed nba evangelized. That is so true. Bill this is a war on children and the bible is very clear as you know. I absolutely hate children. So even though i didn't know about this i'm so glad to go into battle against children. This is a war on children in. The bible is very clear if you're going to go after the children god's going to have the last word on that absolutely janet i really since the covert as part of the judgment. Okay talk to me about that please. While we had a national shutdown last summer we had every major sports league that favored the lgbt agenda. That even took on states for their bathroom bills. When you think about hollywood shutdown rethought fashion shutdown retail shut down all the things gays love from these areas that were so pro. Lgbt number one churches. were shut. Down for jill. Kobe shut them down. I dunno fill ever recover your amblin. Chick-fil-a was shut down for. Like what the fuck are you talking about. Everything was shut down not just lgbtq friendly establishments yeah remember. When god's specifically targeted gay bath houses he made all those places close pro lgbt. The kobe shut down. I don't know if will ever recover. You're absolutely right. Don't touch the children. This crosses the someone made an interesting comment. don't mess children Have you ever heard of the catholic church line. It is tragic to see what they're doing and our god is going to respond even greater this judgment. This is a pattern and everything about this. It's the patterns interesting that govett kills mostly old people. You know old religious folk stupid fucking idiots. Who won't get the vaccine or judgment and i'm sorry there's no other way to put. His theory needs a little bit of work. A little bit of tweaking. I thought the government is giving us kovin and it has something to do with five g. Now you're saying god is behind this in his wrath. I'm very confused. If we could just stick with one crackpot theory that i could get behind it. It'd be great. Although i think i do have another one here. Courtesy of the michael knowles show not familiar with it. He pulls a real pat roberts in this clip. Where he he reads viewer mail. And then just says crazy.

"Give the nhs Sorry to save the nhs at any cost and this one here can residents put on. Do not resuscitate orders without consent within five hundred residents made subject to such a would as well. I think it's more than five hundred because the statistics have put out and this is one here. Hospital figures for kovin cases misleading. So the daily mail out. Sorry telegraph knows full. Well that as a whole ralph of evidence against the government and its agencies. But what do they prints while they bring in this man savage of it He said he asked for this advice. What he's talking about is the proper segregation in data between govett knowing Patients and people in hospital for other things. I've also this voice because it's important that we try to better analyze the primary diagnosis of anyone. Coming into all spital. Well this isn't very interesting statement. Because if we put words in his mouth is really saying that prior to enduring the pandemic the claim pandemic. It was important that we didn't know the primary diagnosis of anyone coming into hospital. And i think we can also suggested what is really getting at is if you ramping up. A pandemic using applied psychology to increase via and anxiety. It's best if the nhs knowing stats always extremist possible which is what they were doing The telegraph brings in also in duncan smith. And he says this what we're beginning to discover is that the nature of the data collection has been really poor. This intern means the ministers. Have to make very big decisions. A too often sitting on misleading data. Which often leads to floor decision baking. So you can see david and this is just. This is all a little bit of a mistake really. It's a bit of misleading data. It really does not speak weld. They've not been forthcoming. What the real fakers. All these figures will be having a direct impact on some of the decisions that have been made an old being made so he does acknowledge that there are real figures on what apparently but nobody seen the real figures the figures seeing which are clearly not real because they're so inaccurate all telling really amazing story. Because what we've go is what we've flagged up in radio. Tens of thousands of elderly people hundreds of thousands possibly of eight. We've locked up station and destroyed the economy. But it's really just a little bit of floor data on some floor decision making and if we really want to know what the medical care in. Uk's focused on well. It's not improving the health of people. It's this is public. Health matters uk using behavioral silence to improve and protect the health of the nation. So nevermore the fat. we've got elderly. People died as a result of this. We call the vaccine adverse effects. We've got misleading data. You've got to trust the same people because they going to change our behavior to make us more healthy. It's outrageous yes. Well i don't have water say david. Well it's it's interesting idea is starting to talk about flawed data. Obviously it's been one of the things we've been talking about for a year and a half now but this is absolutely key because of course once you start looking for accurate data the only place to stop this when you actually get some now. The the definition of a case was changed to be a positive test. The definition of a covert death was changed to be within twenty days of a positive tasks. The tasks thing we know is monumentally unreliable unknown without the degree. To which is unreliable is probably know. It will depend on the number of cycles of the past. It's been run. And therefore there is a story to be uncovered here about just how much the reality was. Mike notified via the media via the narrative via the government story to justify the policy. Now that's a very interesting story. I would hope that they'll be some of politicians would actually pursue that because dodd needs to be known it doesn't date but i think i don't think there's too many am piece Stepping up to the plan to do that I mean just to reinforce out david of what we saw initially was the claim that a kiss was anybody that had tested positive for death. Anybody that tested positive at some point leading up to their death did matter how long it was something. It davis made the point that his article on this Somebody could have tested positive. In march died in august or september and being considered a covert death even though they were the died of cancer or something else And you know it was only after quite a bit of pressure that the the definitions were changed to this twentieth twentieth day. No sense then. We have constantly been saying on this program that of course there's different methodologies different types of data from all the various agencies whether it be public health glitter the day or whomever which means practically impossible than the nhs. Which will. it's not practically possible that it is impossible to compare apples with apples. Therefore and So we can never actually get to the bottom of The correctness of any stigma the government minister might say because we don't see what they see and we can't actually properly analyse Aside from the way we've been doing it for the last four months. Yeah i think. I think the politicians are being pulled into the spotlight. There is so much information and questioning now happening in the country they beginning to feel pulled fullwood. And what i think we've got going on. Here is the start of a campaign will. We mustn't blame the politicians. We must have blamed people who made the decisions Chris wishy and co. this is terrible mistake over a data. That's what i think is is brewing here and if we watch the media closely we'll see whether that idea is correct or not on thursday evening and friday evening last week We were delighted to be hosting doctors for cova ethics for their Symposium absolutely fantastic event. A few technical problems on thursday but nonetheless the information that was given out was superb so Session one on session to are now available on the front page of the uk. "All right everybody welcome back. We're talking with mary. Trump per new book the reckoning our nation's trauma and finding a way to heal is out now hardcover preorder august seventeenth is drops. So everybody jumped on wherever you get your books and get it and before the break we were talking about people being unprepared to handle opening backup or having the the fire hose. Shit show turn off and you know leave his. I remember when i was getting ready to flee from a an abusive relationship and right before that happened. The abuser went into the hospital for three weeks almost a month and over those weeks i was like. Hey it's really nice here right now. I can bring my cat in doors. I wasn't supposed to do that. I can use a gray towel instead of a white towel. I can go and see my friends and have lunch without having to draw a map and check in and so you start realizing that but at the same time it felt freeman who was also very terrifying and i that was inexplicable to me but i imagine some sort of the same things apply here. Yeah and it's all still unfolding against this backdrop of very disturbing political instability. You know we. We've been so betrayed and we're so tired and it's it's it's incredibly destabilizing and disheartening and the press saying and all those things to realize that it's not over we can't let our guard down and how. How do you negotiate all of those things at the same time. And i'm not sure you can because it's all it makes it even harder to draw the line. Okay what is what is what is a reaction to what's really going on the world and what is the the knock on effect of the isolation and the stress because of coveted and what is legitimate psychiatric psychiatric psychological problems. More physical problem know so. We're still in this really amorphous. What's the word. I'm looking for a society or whatever i mean. Our lives are still really amorphous. Sorry to be so eloquent but because nothing settled and you know that was one of when again When i was first writing the book proposal was in october so is before the election it was sort of a writer own adventure and i needed to make it clear to a prospective publisher that i had a good idea either way but the truth of the matter is a joe biden of loss at lost. Ibm tahiti or something. Yeah i remember you. And i have a discussion early on when this was still when we're still in the middle of it and how devastating it was to our psyches to have such an uncertain future. Because you just brought up uncertainty not to be able to make plans not to be able to seek look forward to anything. We had nothing little literally zero to look forward to and you know. I think that that kind of in combination really sort of just adds to the root the. It's like a snowball effect. You know but you know this book also talks about how you know that. Trust relationship whether you have it with another individual or whether you have it with the institutions that govern your country how we have to heal order to build that trust back that we have with these institutions that we've relied on for so long well. Yeah it's a terrible problem. Not to have faith and things jehovah had faith and one of the worst things about the last four five years. This is the ease with which that instability became. Wizard was injected into the sister. Which again though leads us should lead us to believe that it's been going on for a long time but a lot of us have the luxury of not having attention and that's another that's another aspect of this that you know i'm pretty sure most black americans have understood this forever. Yeah so i think it. It gives us an opportunity to recognize that. But it also gives us a chance to We we imagined. I don't think rebuilding is can't rebuild. Something that's if the foundation is essentially sand and swamp so because and why do we want to rebuild that anyway we want to rebuild this incredibly unjust society We want to rebuild something that doesn't work for a huge minority of us or do we want to start over and say listen The american experiment is great. But it's never been realized this is a this is never been a democracy so maybe we should start there. Yeah yeah. I agree a political ease of doing that. Aside and You know considering everyone who's gonna make it as difficult as possible to do that. Because the you know the white man white supremacists they want that status quo. They're they're terrified of the quote unquote great replacement. It was the number one motivator for for the insurrection and for charlottesville and for all the You know militant extremists white. Supremacist groups out there. And so it's it's going to be. It's going to be a tough road and in this new book. Do you start to address how we can do that. Yeah but i'm gonna keep that a surprise. No yeah let's not. Let's not give that away just so that you know that's in the book everyone that you need to get wanted to everyone. No it's vague and What i'd say is we've got to stop fully pundits Yes i concur. Well thank you so much for spending time with me today and talking about this. And i want to to go and get your copy of the reckoning. Our nation's trauma and finding to heal. Mary trump's her second book. Here the first one too much and never enough. You're very familiar with i. We just wrapped up the public playing of our book series which we we actually wrapped last october. Which was right. Around the time you were deciding to penn this new book and so i'm so glad you did and you're right dude fast track. Well done because. I started my book and march of last year and i don't even have a proposal already on. That's that's really that's more what it's usually like think from reading the proposal to publication. I mean sorry. The final draft. My first book took almost two years. And i do not recommend it to anybody. I'm still recovering. Yeah i was gonna ask. I know not to ask how you are. But i kind of like genuinely want to know if if you're if you're recovering from from your from your adventure of completing a book in the fastest time possible. Yes yes i am but you know it said save worthlessness. Am i recovered and my recovering. Govett and my workup. For the fact that like an idiot. I decided to move like finish the book. I landed in a pretty cool place that so i'm not complaining. Yes yes you did. And why don't you just add on top of. Hey this isn't enough. Let's move as well. I hope sebastien. And the whole brood is settling in. And i'm glad to see that this book is out and ready to go and i'm looking forward to reading it. I haven't read it yet. So i'm but i will and i'm sure i will devour devour your first book so i appreciate your time. Mary trump thank you so much thanks. Jj great to be here everybody. "Meanwhile the arts and humanities courses that most politicians themselves studied but they don't want other people have the available option to study. Those are the ones that are more likely to survive so the solution could beat top the stem funding but unless they are prepared to top it all the way up. It's still not going to work because those courses are still going to loss-making and it'll be the other lower cost courses which will be breaking even but they won't be able to cross subsidize and so the very outcome that the government wants to achieve would be very one they undermine halen obviously to get the system under control from treasury point. Va this basically three things. You can do right. You can either lower the unit of resource somehow or you can have fewer students guy universe. They cannot graduates back more. What what do you think we're in for all three do you think where do you think in. The end will land in that kind of bermuda triangle of do well who knows and i think that those different options would probably get a bit of all three. I mean there's been other kite. Flying is very much acts in four. Some we've got lots of quotations from various little vice vice-chancellor pro you know sort of predicting doom and an all magadan. But i think i think it's really interesting to hear. Janis interpretation of outcomes. Because i i'm sensing the courses that more in the crosshairs are are the arts and humanities and it's interesting that his view which has you know. She's very logical means that the the opposite thing might happen so one of these kite flying articles in the times this week talks about all these different measures and this a quotation at the end of the article which is stated as an uncontested fact. And it's worth reflecting on lights says gothic williamson. The education sector is cain to move students way from arts and humanities degrees those with pork graduate outcomes so just pause on that for a second not arts and humanities degrees that have poor outcomes arts and humanities degrees and those poor graduate outcome so that includes classics oxford theology at durham andrew or govett credible statement. Take it at face value. But we know that he's also been on the record. Recently saying things like the number of students taking up science and engineering demonstrates that many are already starting to pivot away from these dead end courses. So so i think we know the direction. Travelled at the government is trying to achieve. But i think is interesting in that you know. This goes back to my point about where we landed the policy of unintended consequences. And i think johnny's point about those unintended consequences that that is a real danger that we end up with some bigger universities who have been essentially fishing in the tariff pool of shall we say for things like english history theology other humanities and arts. They may stop doing that because they because they won't be able to make the cross-subsidy so who knows where all this land But i think we do know the clear direction of travel that the government wants to take johnny one. What do you think he's more likely. Sort of variable fees that students can say variable units of resolves. Students can't say gee semaine will. The will we end up. Wait the government trying to incentivize sa- and coal season disincentivize the provision of other coal sees..

They give you no choice You have. The parents have no power in the school district's They get to extricate all the money they want out of your pocket, Nick and teach your kids hate And the Texas Legislature under the control of Republicans are making sure that is the way it will always be, because there's too much money from Governor Govett is more important financially to their campaigns into their bottom lines than your parents are. What would you say to any Republican or a socialist? Who wants to continue to deny Texas parents school choice. Yeah. I would say you picked the wrong town started in because we're gonna fight back on this. We're gonna win this. We will teach our Children what we want to teach our Children. If people did not teach their Children in the 1st 18 years of their life about diversity, inclusion, That is not our fault. We teach our Children the right way to grow up in the work hard and be somebody and treat everybody equally and that's what's gonna end up happening with our Children. Chuck does any any politician who stands against school choice? Do they deserve your vote or your money? No, they don't. We need to elect those people for us. We were gonna represent people who want to have you know the right things taught our Children which is the math and science and history. And actually, the correct version of history is all right. Open Eyes to Know Christ - Matthew 27:54

"Chapter Twenty seven I fifty four. When the Centurion and those were with them, keeping watch over Jesus saw the earthquake in what took place. They were filled with awe. And said truly this was the son of God. Like that was the conclusion. Of the Centurion and those who were with him. Who just witnessed? Jesus, die on a cross, and they see all that happens after that including this earthquake, and what took place, and they were filled with all, and said truly this was the son of God. They saw at this moment who Jesus was in his death on the cross. I just think about San Corinthians four four or six talks about how the God of this world little g of this world has blinded the minds of unbelievers from seeing who Jesus is Verse Five Says We preach Christ and I six seven four talks about how God's shines light our hearts, so that our eyes are open to see the glory of God in the face of Christ I. This is a supernatural. I opening work? The God does by His grace. And he did it in this centurions life, and those who are with him in this way like truly. This was the son of God. Religious Resistance to Quarantine

"I'm frankly getting kind of tired of of the whole stay at home and shelter in place and we all are. This is one of those things where we need to. Just buck up and deal with it. It sucks but it's important to make sure that people don't needlessly die because right now people are needlessly dying and there are some people who are not willing to buck up and deal with it such as a local ammon Bundy who you may recall from the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. A few years back. He led an armed insurrection against the United States government. Seizing Federal Land and destroying any artifacts and has his. Most recent thing was a defiant Easter gathering near his home in Emmett Idaho where he was hoping to get a thousand people. Together in. Defiance of the governor's shelter in place order. Yeah he was hoping to get one thousand people you WANNA guess with. The real count was sixty. Yeah he got sixty people. He also didn't run out a big space research. Nope just used a warehouse that he owns on the edge of town out of these sixty people about half when asked by. Diego Rodriguez a pastor who spoke at the event when he asked who was from out of state but half rose their hands after the event or before even During the event the people were hugging and shaking hands. Nobody wore masks or any other protective gear. There were tons of most of the vehicles. There were pickups. A LOT OF THEM HAD AMERICAN. Flags mounted some had bumper stickers promoting the three percenters militia and somebody at the entrance blow a show far which is a horn made from a horn that you blow that is actually a type of Goat Horn. It is at least loosely based on a old Jewish horn talked about in the Bible but has been taken over by Christians especially the Jews for Jesus and Masonic Jewish groups and now the Patriot movement. Which has a anti-federal movement that seeks to overthrow the federal government and replace it with a libertarian theocracy? Which of course it would be a complete oxymoron. The the pastor there the event He did say during it Quote they'll speak all manner of evil against you. They'll say that you were just trying to bring attention to yourself. They say they'll say that you are trying to destroy other people's freedoms because if you go outside and you breathe someone might die. Yes they are ammon. Bundy was just trying to bring attention to himself. The people gathering are just trying to bring attention to themselves. They have been promoting themselves in as an anti federal movement. They are actively opposing. The state government and Idaho has one of the most conservative state governments out there. One of the most liber- Libertarian state. Governments out there. And they're opposing it too so no they they are just anti-government and anybody who's truly anti-government doesn't get it like even anarchists. Some kind of government. I don't know what they're really hoping to replace the government with but obviously it's not just getting rid of the central government man. It's pretty crazy One thing that the Bundy said at the event was I think it's bad enough and our rights are infringed upon enough will physically stand in defence in whatever way we need to. I believe that is specifically what Governor Brad. Little was talking about with a hose shelter in place order when he said that he doesn't want to have to enforce it but he has activated the National Guard and will use it if he needs to. They're bringing people from out of state and outside of the little town of Emmett to an event with more than ten people to potentially spread Govett. Nineteen either from Idaho to these other states or from these other states and to the town of 'em and win. The governor threatened the use of the National Guard. That was I know. At least I interpreted as stopping travel across regions like stopping people needlessly traveling from state from out of state to say a fucking Easter event in Im- it. It's not like they're going to be having the immaturity festival this year. Kentucky has mandatory shelter. Kentucky has a similar shelter in place and advance of Easter actually two days before Easter. Good Friday governor. Andy Bashir warned that anybody who violated the stay at home order on Easter knowing that there were numerous churches threatening to ignore the order also acknowledging that while most churches and every single synagogue and mosque in the state at shut down for this time there were some that weren't and he said that anybody who went to one of them would be subject to a fourteen day mandatory self corn team with police recording license plates and sending health officials to in person place all of these people and their households on quarantine. What actually happened ended up being at least that one church Maysville baptist. Church had a full house. At least it looked like it from the parking lot Which As a general rule of thumb churches considered full when the parking lot is eighty percent full. That's when people start. Stop showing up and just drive by so yeah. If it appeared to be near near full house it was full and that was despite a heavy police presence and even some nails blocking the parking lot entrances a church member who arrived beforehand Remove the piles of of nails and they ignored. The police warnings and signs and then they police went. Oh and some people even covered up license points To make us so the police wouldn't be able to record their license plate numbers so then. The police took down license plates when they could and the numbers when they couldn't and again everyone who attended lease. Let me phrase it. The owners of the vehicles that were in the parking lot during the event and everyone else living at their address are now quarantined for fourteen days. How fucking selfish can you get like if you can? You can hope that. In each of those cases everyone in the household attended And you didn't have. People need needlessly getting quarantined. Or at least everybody's getting quarantine due to no fault of their own but that's not likely with the Baptist Church but if there was anybody in attendance who had a roommate who is a devout Christian. Yeah that sucks. You need to pick your pick your roommates better. If you're in that situation and in Virginia Bishop Gerald Glenn of Richmond's new deliverance Evangelistic Church said at one of his. Actually I believe is that his last service he attended on March twenty second quote. I firmly believe that God is larger than the dreaded virus. You can quote me on that. He happily announced that he was being controversial violating safety rules at way more than ten people in attendance and then he was diagnosed with Kovic nineteen and has now died his wife's also sick with over nineteen and according to their daughter early on her father dismissed his symptoms because he has some other health condition that often leads to fevers and infections. I'M GONNA GUESS DIABETES. And so she ignored that he nord that apparently ignoring that diabetes and and or any other health disorder that negatively impacts your immune system but she would increase risk of severe complications from Cova nineteen including death. He firmly believed that God is larger than the dreaded virus the virus that killed him.

The predatory publishers sucking science's blood (Summer Season)

"Quake the doot of a Predator as a reporter. You get all kinds of of little suggestions. Tips complaints this. And you can't deal with them all. This one intrigued me. I had started to hear about similar complaints and sort of once. You hear enough of them the signal adds up you think. Maybe there's a story here. What was I seeing What what the clued that? That Mela rash well. I was a researcher myself. I was a faculty librarian at my university and I did. Research probably starting five six years ago I I was always looking for publishing opportunities. I started getting letters and I started to receive these emails. Sort of saying extremely nice. Nice things to me that basically said call for Paper Journal Editors Wanting Me To submit my manuscript to their journal and they had lots of grammatical errors in addition to that one and the emails and then generally speaking editor. I don't say very nice things about you and they don't typically they don't write to you and ask you to submit a manuscript. Will you ever tempted to meet. No no I mean I'm a clinical epidemiologist in some of these journals were lifted from soil. Science right why would somebody from soil science be asking me saying Nice things about me. They wouldn't no me from anywhere he's smells a rat. I did maybe several but that rash or several thousand read via now. Well and truly on the loose predatory publishes and the Predatory Journal has become a mega industry global in reach ending ending destructive potential. In fact you're going to hear from someone who believes that the industry represents the big threat to don in the inquisition shen the US. Federal Court recently ordered one of the biggest of the company to pay up over fifty million. US dollars only make. International headquartered voted in Hyderabad in India but also operating in the US climbed the publish hundreds of medical journals found to employ deceptive business practices essentially entrapping fantasy to offer published in the Journal or participate in conferences. The Doug the ruling bye-bye predatory publishes well. Let's see if Any of that money actually moves anywhere. It's not clear with a the group will cough up that fifty million dollars which is an estimate of how much the company made from customers over a period. All whether we'll appeal we tend to leave leaked of question to its representative yet to receive a reply but it is nice. Clear message to all the Sake Journal. Publishers of the world that they're being watched watched and there could be consequences. Joan Bohannon thought journalists and now director to add an artificial intelligence data in San Fran called primer. They didn't biscuit slipping under the radar. And using American Canadian European banks to move money millions of dollars of money from a complicit gains so this court ruling basically makes that extremely inconvenient to do now. John was to present evidence in the kite board again. Anthem IQ Group by the Federal Trade Commission. Because he'd had an unusually Hansa with the publisher so all mix was one of hundreds of publishers offers that I tested in sting operation. I wrote some computer code to generate thousands of very bad scientific papers. They have been negative kind of legendary inside the back in two thousand twelve John Reporting for the general died and the Expression Predatory Journal Common News. there was a guy named Geoffrey Yu who was probably the only person around making in a big public. Stink about this and trying to actually Shine a light on it. It was very very bold effort. He had something called feels list or at least it became known as beal's lest my name is Jeffrey Bill. And I'm a retired academic librarian from University of Colorado Denver. But make the deal. Beal Blackley fame and a climb and karate he was the first to coin. The Phrase Predatory Journal the Journal. Publishers hated being malysz because it it stigmatizes them in meant that their income was decreased. Most of the predatory publishers are predatory not only in their publishing but in just the way they operate in general and they would use the heckler's actors veto. They would call the library director and complain about me and they would try to annoy people at my university as much as possible in order to manipulate those people at the university to make me stop the list so that their complaints would stop. I also received several threats of legal action including think it was is in twenty twelve international threatened to sue me for one billion dollars one billion dollars. It was just a threat. What I learned from it is that you can basically basically pay an attorney? Five hundred dollars all right a threatening letter so they they did that but they never followed through with. It was never introduced in any court consequences consequences. Jeffrey of running that black leaked were immense. And I'll come back to that. One estimate suggests that there are at least eight thousand predatory journals it is just one publisher of many but Jeffrey Bill provocatively cold. The the evil empire of Predatory Publishing I stand Dan by that statement and what they do is they really hurt a lot of people. You know the scholarly publishing system works on the honor system and people operate in good faith but oh mix international has has totally broken all that down. They use a lot of spamming to solicit article manuscripts from researchers they have journal titles that match the titles of respected journals. Usually one word off enough to confuse people that it might be the respected journal in the `field they will at People's names to their editorial boards without the person's permission people from top universities top researchers in the field and they'll use their identity to promote the journal and when the person finds out about it and ask them to remove their name. They don't remove it they just leave it there because they're operating operating from foreign country. There's really nothing you can do about it. And they especially prey on young researchers in emerging researchers researchers who don't speak English as their first language. It's not just dont. As from developing countries that a toggle though that even acknowledged problem clinical epidemiologist. David moas taste the Croats at reaching into some of America's most delayed institutions including Harvard in the analysis that we did where we looked at a close to two thousand thousand articles published in Predator journals. We found that actually the most frequent corresponding authors were from what we would call first world countries countries with lots of money and lots of resources that is troubling very troubling because it suggests that at these institutions authors may not Be Aware of predatory journals and are we need to obviously ramp up some educational activities. People think that they're sending the manuscript to a legitimate respected journal. When it's really just a phony dough mix international journal and then they quickly accept the paper without any peer review and then send them an invoice and that point the authors realized that something is wrong because There was really no peer reviewed done yet papers accepted and they have this two thousand dollars invoice that comes through email and the olmecs demanding payment. Most of them asked to withdraw the paper when they realized that they've been duped. But then omits says says you can't withdraw your paper unless you pay US withdrawal fee. An often than olmecs will publish the article quickly and one of their journals and then and they can't submit it anywhere else. Because that would be duplicate submission it would be publishing the same article twice. which is something not supposed to do that? Nothing about Predatory Street Journal devoted to pose to happening time as John Bohannon Govett when he hit them. Attest yes yeah so I just wanted some data. It's frustrating to have such an enticing story of you know bad actors that potentially raking in millions of ill-gotten dollars dollars and not get some data to find out if it's true. We stay in molecular biology from offered. Clave he plotted experiment which was pretty straightforward. And the idea in a nutshell is if I submit a really and I mean truly bad scientific paper to your journal final and you accept it with no sign of any peer review and you asked me for money then you're you're a fake journal Publisher Sharma sure. Yeah John Wanted to take to how easy it was to get published in a predatory journal it can usually take many months used even to get a pipe into a reputable contact general and even then it's not a given that partly because of what's called Peer Review essential to the conduct protest. You Do Fairmont you. You brought it up reporting your results. Submit it to a journal and then it pulled destroyed by a bunch of other daunting

Homelessness in one of the world's most powerful cities

"For a beach bum from Newcastle like North America correspondence Khanna Duffy, Washington's long winters are a chilling reality. But they can also mean life and death. It may be the most powerful city on earth. But within a few blocks of the White House. There is a crisis of homelessness at least seven thousand people have to bear that Washington winter without heating Khanna hit the streets to find out. More owes walking to work this morning in windstorm head down being blown around with my eyes full of grit from the streets. It's been a long winter with pole vortex and a steady stream of bad weather. If it was bugging me. How was seventy year old Warren, a cheerful homeless African American Deysi, local, I see outside the coffee stool holding up or being out here in one of those pretty hard because you have to wrestle with the elements. Sometimes it's Bourboule sometimes it's almost intolerable. So one of those really bad here a few weeks ago, we had the poll of Tex even how how did you cope with that? That was really cold. Well, I had to go through a lot of suffering out here in the col- stay as long as I can. And when I feel like I'm hype getting hypothermic or gross do frostbitten, and I have to leave, and that's how dealt with that way. Did you go roll? I went to a shelter for one night for a couple of hours that was pretty hard because shelters here not sufficient for living is inhumane of the people that initial inhumane, and they do a lot of crazy things that you really don't want to be around. So I try to void that as much as possible people with mental illness and addictions and stuff in addiction, mental illness, a lot of self despair, a lot of anger, so. Those things spill out on other people. And if you don't want to become a fraud that Govett, then you have to just try to bear around as much as you can in a rapidly gentrifying CD homelessness is a big local political issue. Warren became homeless in his sixties. The retied cook was lift bankrupt after an emergency hospital trip. His wife did not survive an-and unsheduled, he proclaimed himself. He didn't have insurance and things spiraled out of control in America. The safety net is full of holes that in an every day. Mishaps everyday misfortune. You know, you never know when it's going to knock on your door. And that's why notably optimistic rather than pessimistic because you're here one day, and you're living in a normal part of society and the next you find yourself in adverse situation, which caused you to change your thinking. And how it's changed. My thinking is I met a lot of people here that are homes I've never been homeless. And now, I see them from a different mindset before it's not lazy bumped you get a job. You know, why can't they do this? But life is not always that way. Warren's nine luckily, he's enthusiasm and blessings for the papal that poss- by him on what he calls his shift on straight. It's an attitude. He's kept up all through winter. And it makes me a little embarrassed. At my grumblings about the cold. The conditions are on the street are. Actually what you make of it. Probably like everything else in lot. Yeah. Yeah. Well, if you don't put anything in no deposit, no withdrawal. So you have to deposit. Something mind is the better part of my nature that I can rent it to the public looking for the better part of their everyone has shortcomings, and so I don't allow myself to become despondent. You know, because there's no one's fault situations occur, you know, and hopefully interchange DC's men Muriel bowser has a plan to in timelessness, but even a casual visitor to the CD wound notice the tainting Kant's. There's so many people sleeping rough. They stiff competition for the best corners for panhandling. And they divided up into blocks of time during the day. Warren noise, it'll be tough to break the cycle, but he's staying positive and at the very least another winter is close to ending will. There's not enough services as far as getting off the streets concern there available, but it takes on a receive it and tell a lot of people just give up in despair before they have a getting I feel like that sometimes, but I try to fight it and just bear it out eventually being optimistic. Something is gonna change and hopefully foot hopefully for the better because you always same in pretty good spirits when say in the morning. Well, that's something. I have to continue to teach myself. You know, it's not just about individually an individual this about a community. And so if I'm not in good spirits and helping aiding the community, then the community doesn't assists me, and that's not productive. And Warren my hands are getting really cold just holding the microphone out. He so you must be pretty Cain for it to warm up and spring to come as well. Oh care. Wait. I can imagine Kona Duffy they reporting from very chilly, Washington DC.
