"Tim wave eyewitness news and target twelve reported a couple of days. Back tax payers in Pawtucket picked up the tab for more than four hundred police details at McCoy stadium back in two thousand eighteen during the PawSox season should the PawSox reimbursed city of Pawtucket for police details that the city covered last season eighty percent of you said, yes. And twenty percent of you said, no. You know what I'm with? I'm with twenty percent. And I'll tell you why. Because that's the deal that the mayor made with with the PawSox in a like it or not he wasn't transparent about it. But that's the deal that they made. Here's what I think should happen though, August eighteenth. I believe is the date last year when the PawSox announced that they were pulling the plug in Pawtucket and move into Worcester. And there were six home games left after that, those are the games. All right. The six home games that were left that when I think the city should be reimbursed for, you know, part of picking up the tab, obviously was trying to keep the PawSox in Pawtucket. So that's where I stand on that one today's poll question Governor Raimondo saying yesterday, according to the pro Jo that she has not ruled out veto of both the evergreen contract and firefighter overtime bills. That are headed for final votes by state lawmakers today, she said I haven't made any decision either way it's likely to land on her desk because it looks like lawmakers, you're gonna push this thing through. So what do you think about this should the governor once again because she's done it before veto the evergreen contract bills? They've been tweaked a little bit. But she says she still on the fence about it should the governor veto the evergreen contract bills. You can log onto our website, NewsRadio r I dot com and ES or no comment. "Think batch Aghanistan also says Rhode Island's mayors warn that a labor back Bill that's moving through the general assembly could blow up their budgets Governor Raimondo yesterday said that they need to quote do their jobs instead at the bargaining table and look for concessions from public employee unions. In an interview yesterday. Ramon does said she's quoted leaning towards signing a Bill that would keep municipal contracts in effect indefinitely, but would meet with mayor's soon to let them plead their case. But if you already leaning towards it, what are they going to do are they going to influence you asked whether or not this takes away the mayor's leverage to force concessions, and it could be costly. The governor said mayors should work harder bike she does to protect the taxpayers. She said that's the job of your mayor and your city council. Their job is to go. She ate at the table for whenever concessions unnecessary. So she noted that she vetoed. The continuing contracts Bill for mayors. The last time that lawmakers passed it, but this time she's leaning towards signing it she said that she said that local leaders have to do more on there and walk and they do that. If you take leverage away from them. I guess the big question as she also seems to be at odds with Bora Ville over the second amendment sanctuary resolution. Here's Bill ramp from NBC ten girls, a peaceful place. There's no gang bangers hanging on the corner. Corner. There's lots of tractors in this town and people who play with guns, you know, we've multiple venues that are popular shooting areas and Burrillville. We got a lot of people that like to do sport shooting and targeting, and so there's a lot of people feel very strongly about not having the second amendment rights. A French is enough of a concern that the town council unanimously passed a resolution to make Berle quote second amendment sanctuary town. We feel very comfortable that what we have is fine. It's the fact that others think they know better. And it's the progressives. I think that they know better than us what our constitutional rights should be relative to the second amendment. We're not buying it. But no matter what resolutions the Berle town council passes here, Governor Gina. Raimondo says the laws of Rhode Island. We'll still apply if they disagree with my position, go lobby at the state house the right way to do. This is to go lobby at the state house, but to secede from Rhode Island in our laws is not an appropriate response. And police are sworn to enforce the laws on the books. Not the resolutions of town councils were hoping that other you know, other communities probably along the western side of the state look at this and say, we might do that too. Gloucester's town council is now said it is ready to vote on its own second amendment sanctuary resolution spill ramp.

"Back over the last year, and all of the all of the people who have emerged from the parkland shooting with a certain amount of of notoriety or prestige when you think about it. They're probably the most prominent spokesman for the March for our lives, a group that he and other stoneman Douglas students founded is David Hogg stoneman Douglas again, I think he was a senior. Yeah. He was a senior at the time. And that organization that he helped found the March for our lives won the International Children's peace prize in his activism led to a significant amount of criticism for him as well he and his younger sister, Lauren wrote a book called never again, a new generation draws the line, and he will be he took the one year off instead of going directly to school, and he will be attending Harvard in the fall one of the other young people who emerged was Kyle cash cash. Oh, the stoneman. Douglas, Douglas, senior has become the most prominent conservative voice among the students. He has met with the president and with members of congress and supreme court Justice. Clarence Thomas was a member of Governor Raimondo Santos's transition team, and is high school outreach director for turning point USA, which of course, is Charlie Kirk and Candice. Their group that basically works with college age conservative students and Kyle has been appointed at the helm of the outreach to high school students. Of course, one of the parents who has emerged Zandi Pollock Andy as become a friend. His eighteen year old daughter meadow did die in the shooting. He has become the most outspoken critic of the school and law enforcement officials among all of the victim's parents, and he is a force now in Florida's conservative politics. He has bet with the president. He was on covet governor Disentis transition team, and he is now protesting in front of city furniture. Most days pushing for the removal of Broward school superintendent, Robert Runcie. And he is also the only parent that I know of that is suing the perpetrator of this crime whose name I. I will never say on the air the Broward school district. He's suing and he's suing the sheriff's office as well as deputy Scott Peterson who was on duty at the school during the shooting, but did not enter the building to confront the shooter. Another parent who has become a vocal person is Fred Gutenberg, who's fourteen year old daughter. Jamie was killed. He has become an outspoken advocate on the other side for gun control and every other liberal 'cause he did draw national attention once when he approached the new supreme court Justice spread cavenaugh during the confirmation hearings. He said he extended his hand and that cavenaugh walked away Justice Cavanaugh said he did not know who he was. And he was really kind of preoccupied with what was going on. He was also part of the transition team for new state agriculture Commissioner, Nikki freed, which is he she is actually Florida's only statewide democratic officeholder. And and proponent of gun control Ryan petty, who's fourteen year old daughter Elena. Died was appointed to the state commission investigating the shooting his comments tended to hit a police in school system failures he perceived. He did lose a bid for the Broward County school board. But was also part of governor dissents his transition team match Schachter, who's fourteen year old son. Alex died became the emotional voice of the parents as a member of the state commission and founder of the group safe schools for Alex he has traveled extensively looking at school security systems, Laurie ala deaf who's fourteen year old daughter Eliza was killed one a school board seat representing parkland in August, she tried hiring a Runcie critic as her secretary. But the superintendent said the woman who happen to have been a college instructor who holds a doctorate was unqualified because she didn't have related experience and. Of course, we all know that that was political Allah has pushed a superintendent Runcie to set a timeline for implementing school security projects. Tony Montalto who's fourteen year old daughter Gina was killed as president of stand with parkland. A group of parents and spouses of the victims the group has pushed for enhanced school security measures better mental health screening programs and universal background checks for gun purchases Manuel Oliver who seventeen year old son. How arcane died is an artist who has created projects honoring his son and condemning gun violence. He recently took on comic. Louis CK who mocked the victims during a December performance at his website change, the ref dot org. Oliver poses as a stand up comedian in the form of a joke. He tells about dropping his son off the day he died and no one laughs. He also, I believe was the parent who stood up recently. During a. A hearing that was taking place on gun issues in congress where a congressman Matt gates had basically talked about something that was not had nothing to do with gun violence, and he objected to that quite loudly and that made the the news as well. Some of the people that we have been observing quite closely. Of course, former sheriff Scott Israel who the governor suspended on January eleventh saying he quote repeatedly failed and has demonstrated a pattern of poor leadership now before the shooting. Scott Israel, had changed his department's policy to say deputies may confront shooters from shell confront shooters. And that of course. Was what gave cover to the eight deputies who did not confront the gunman when they arrived during the shooting and instead stayed outside Scott. Israel's attorney says he intends to challenge the suspension any attend intends to run again next year, which is shaping up to be a pretty intense primary because the current sheriff, Gregory, Scott is a democrat as well. So he would have to challenge him for the nomination since he is the incumbent sheriff now. And of course, one of these people who believe that the sheriff's department should not be a one of those offices where the party affiliation or partisanship should take place at all when I dial nine one one I don't ask them to send a conservative or liberal or a democrat or Republican. I just want to send a sheriff to my house. Another one of the people. Of course, it came under tremendous fire was Scott. Peterson a longtime Broward sheriff's deputy was assigned to the school and retire retired very shortly after the shooting security video showed he drew his gun but did not enter the three-storey freshman building where the killings took place. Instead he took cover nearby and stayed there for about fifty minutes in interviews with the today show in the Washington Post. He said he did not know where the shots were coming from. He was subpoenaed to testify before the state investigative commission, but invoked his fifth amendment rights. Silence after it was announced he is under criminal investigation. The commission concluded that he lied about. Not knowing the location of the shooter and several members called him a coward. He is collecting a pension of more than one hundred thousand dollars annually. I don't think any amount of money can race the pain that he has to now go through daily for what he lacked to do in those incredibly important moments of the shooting the superintendent of schools, Robert Runcie is a remains in office, although many of the victims families would prefer to see him removed. He does have a backing of of a majority of the nine member school board and governor descent this while he would have liked to suspend secretary Runcie. He said state law won't allow it. Because Runcie is an appointed official not an elected official, and it is very. Complicated for him to remove all the school board members. That would in fact. You have to have to leave in order for there to be. A change in heart. Let's put it that way. So a lot of the names have become national names. They've become national stories certainly this country in its entirety has been talking about whether or not it is appropriate for schools in an effort to mitigate this school two pipeline pipeline from school to prison, in my opinion nonsense that many young people are violent and inappropriate in school settings. And it is excused because they don't want to cast a tie those kids behavior to a future outcome, and many of us believe that that's exactly what happened in. This instance, that this this killer. What who said he would plead guilty in exchange for a life sentence at the prosecutors remain steadfast and seeking the death penalty. We still don't have a trial date set a was charged in November with attacking a jail guard who investigators say told him not to drag his sandals. While walking the guard was able to fend off the attack. This is not a healthy camper. Anyway, we're gonna take a break. And then we're going to wrap this up for this final segment of the show. And we're going to talk about some other things in the final hour of the program. And and hopefully use this last few minutes to either remember or to challenge what's gone on in the year since the tragedy at Marjory stoneman Douglas high school remember.
