Pedro Gonzalez Shares the Latest Out of East Palestine, Ohio
"What did you learn visiting east palestin Ohio? I went to east Palestinian with a lot of questions that I hoped to get answered and I left actually with just more questions because that's the reality on the ground for people who live there. East Palestinian is a village of about 5000 people and they are essentially in the dark about what's happening literally in their own backyard. They do not trust the conflicting reports that are coming out of various environmental and health agencies, precisely because they are conflicting. It seems like there is always a statement that is contradicted within a day or so and they obviously have no faith in the railroad company Norfolk Southern and actually doing a good job overseeing its own the cleanup of its own mess. That is where pretty much all of the anger is directed right now. There's also a lot of frustration with governor Mike dewine, especially because the wine was really proactive as we know with COVID. He blocked people in their homes and he was very, very aggressive when it came to him. But on this, dewine has been noticeably kind of AWOL. Or at least his approach to handling this really severe crisis for a small town that's been economically depressed for a long time is really, really different to his approach to COVID in a bad way. I mean, and again, this is a quintessential middle American small town. I spoke to a family that has lived there, their entire lives. They met in high school actually and the only time that the husband had left this town was to serve in the military. They both work at a factory that at a ceramics factory with kilns that are over a hundred years old and they have, they live there because it's home, not because obviously it's a thriving and prosperous town, but because east Palestine is home to these people. And right now they feel abandoned and isolated.

Clinic to open near Ohio derailment as health worries linger
"Authorities are attempting to reassure residents of an Ohio community that was a scene of a huge train Roman two weeks ago. I Norman hall. Ohio governor Mike dewine says the plume of chemicals that spilled into the Ohio River from a fiery train derailment has broken up and is no longer a concern. Dewine says air tests inside and outside of homes in the village of east Palestine found no traces of chemicals, but dewine says he understands why residents who have lingering headaches and irritated eyes remain skeptical. Residents deserve an answer. They have suffered a great deal. This has been a traumatic time for them. Clinical open within days, at least 5 lawsuits have been filed against railroad operator Norfolk Southern audio courtesy wsyx WTT. On Norman hall

"Audience. You've been so generous, but the need is absolute. We're going to try and fill I just listening to father Mike explained saying Augustine trying to explain the Trinity and the apocryphal story of St. Augustine walking along in the Mediterranean and of course he is one of the fathers of the church in Africa. And he sees a little boy trying to fill a hole with water from the ocean. He asked the boy why he trades been meditating on the Trinity and the mystery of the Trinity. And he asked a little boy, what are you doing? Because I'm going to put the ocean in this hole. And that's impossible in the little boy says to him just about as hard as you're trying to figure out the Trinity and vanishes. Because the Trinity is one of those things. And I've listened to the father, Mike, and the catechism in a year, and it doesn't make I know what it is. I've always had in my mind the three circles converging, but the ancient nature of turkey calls forth the best in all of the three great Abrahamic religions. So Jews have been sent from Israel and the Israeli defense forces are amazing. Christians across the world are working through people like food for the poor and their banners at the top a few Hewitt dot com and of course it's an Islamic majority country by a lot, the Muslim country and the Red Crescent is there on the ground and working. And this doesn't have geographical boundaries. It's just I've never seen anything like it and I saw Sri Lanka and I saw Haiti. And there just wasn't that much to fall down in Haiti and it all did fall down. We didn't see much except the aftermath of the wreckage in Sri Lanka, but to see these pictures from turkey, breaking my heart, breaking yours, I appreciate your generosity. I'll be back with more news right after this, stay tuned. That's what I'm going to do America to every Republican who takes up time on the program. I'm going to walk by their statement. I am not interested in Republicans spouting stuff. I'm interested in witness testimony. I'm joined by Sarah Westwood of the D.C. examiner who covers Congress and other things Sarah, I'm frustrated because we had two hearings this week. We had the House oversight committee of coma committee, and then we had the weaponization committee, Jordan, and the Republican, and the witnesses said very little. Did you go to either of those? Does anyone not tell them that the purpose of the hearing is to get answers, not to give speeches? I covered the latter hearing the weaponization hearing that happened yesterday. Yeah, I think what we saw was really a sort of a scene setter, right? We had the Republicans laying out essentially the rationale for the creation of that subcommittee, but it was sort of building something, you know, maybe a little more exciting than that. So for anyone who was tuning in, hoping to hear some bombshell testimony from the two former FBI agents who were there, would have been disappointed, but they sort of alluded to some of the things they have in the pipeline like future FBI whistleblower interviews that could prove more interesting. I played a little bit of Nicole Parker, who was the only witness that I cared to hear from one of the FBI agents and she talked about the politicization, then the Richmond FBI office memo on radical Catholics going to Latin master. Did that come up? Did anyone say, hey, how about what's going on with that? You know, it's interesting timing that right in the midst of that hearing that the FBI headquarters finally responded to that memo that came out last month from the Richmond field office saying that there's opportunities to increase surveillance and criminal investigations of Catholics who go to Latin mass. And accusing them of having some sort of nexus with white supremacy. So the FBI office did come out and say that that memo did not meet the standards of the bureau that they were investigating how that even came into being in the first place. They removed it from their servers. I mean, it's still another black eye for an FBI that has just lost the confidence of the American people in every sense, but I'm Jim Jordan. I go get Chris ray, and I say, I want you to walk me through from just from conception to birth to revocation. This memo. Just start, and then I step back. But I ask Kurt schlichter yesterday guy often subs for me, colonel Kirk, does no one how to ask questions. Have you ever been to a hearing where you actually thought it was riveting? You know, no, not really. I mean, I think, you know, there are very few lawmakers who are good at that. It's a real skill. You know, I think there were lawmakers who are no longer there in the trade gouty was pretty good at that because he had a prosecutor background. You know, but some of the lawmakers, that's not their skill set. You know, that was, I guess, the hope of putting Jim Jordan in charge because he's good at creating those moments, but there wasn't a lot of opportunities for that yesterday. You bring up a good name. Now, Trey gowdy and I had our disagreements on various things. But he was very good at this. Have you interviewed him about his colleagues and their inability to ask questions? That is a great question. I have not interviewed him since he left office, but you know he could maybe teach a thing or two to people. I think some conservatives, I know like my own dad cringes when he hears out his name and they think, oh, he had a chance to get Hillary and didn't with the Benghazi committee, but he was very good at sort of prosecuting a case slowly every time it was his turn to question witnesses who's very thorough, you know, never got emotional. So those are the sort of types of skill sets. You know, there's maybe a problem for Republicans is that Dan Goldman, a new freshman Democrat from New York who was who rose to fame during the impeachment process asking really pointed questions or impeachment trials is sitting on that panel and was, you know, in the spirit of objectivity, one of the best nurse. He's a prosecutor. The worst. The worst thing happened, the Republicans this week is that Nancy mace went viral. And that which gets rewarded gets repeated. So she gave a little speech about the vax and her terrible health problems, and it went viral, and she raised money, and then other people want that. And I'm just wondering, Sarah, does anyone ever honestly admit that they don't know what they're doing when it comes to holding a hearing? Oh, never. Of course not. I mean, what purpose would that serve? But yeah, it was not riveting television. It was four hours of a lot of really dense and sort of broad conceptual discussions about politicization within the bureau, not a lot of revelations about specific algorithms. Tell me about, are you watching in the room or are you watching on closed circuit at that point? At that point I was watching on closed circuit, but you know, it's a certain point and there's not a lot of value of physically sitting there. There isn't. You know, the best hearings we've had, the most dramatic hearings we've had have been Supreme Court nomination hearings, because we'd actually don't know what people are going to say. I hope you keep going to these things. It must be a pain in the neck. I'm not your editor, but I sure would go find there's some other people have done it well like Trey gowdy. I think Pompeo did it well on Benghazi. But who's the best questioner of the two hearings you've watched this week? Gosh, I gotta say Goldman. I mean, he had really good questions that were building towards a broader point, right? You know, he questioned Parker the former FBI agent about his tenure and sort of exposed how long ago it was that he was last at the FBI, you know? And it made me sort of question why. Undermines the witness. Undermine the credibility of the witness. He was great, because he knows what he's doing. Sarah see Westwood on Twitter. I'm not your editor, but I hope you talk to God or someone on tutorial for a Republican Congress and have a great weekend. They'll go anywhere America..

"Morning, glory, America, bonjour, high Canada, you hear it live inside of studio west. It's Friday before the Super Bowl, and I am glad you were with me. Let me update you on the disaster in turkey and Syria. The death toll soared above 21,000 last night. The vast majority of those are known dead in turkey. We really don't have a good picture on how many are dead in Syria because of the lack of access to the region of the UN is rolling from trucks there. Temperatures remain below freezing last night. Countries around the world are pledging aid, the United States pledged $85 million. It seems kind of scotch to me. This audience, by the way, thank you. Thank you, and please continue to be generous. There is an unlimited need here. And I never disappointed by this audience hundreds of you texted HU GH to 91 9 9 9. You visited Hugh Hewitt dot com and you hit the food for the poor button at the top. They're up and running. They've already got it going in the region, the affected region. And now I've got a special toll free number 8 5 5 three 5 9 46 73. That's 8 5 5 three 5 9 46 73. You might want to go over to my Twitter feed and I don't know if you do this with a youngster, but you do it with a teenager. They found an infant who was clutching a lock of her mother's hair and she lived. It's been underground for 72 hours and cheat days, but she's at the hospital and she's got a lock of her mother's hair and it's really one of the most heartbreaking things you'll ever see. We'll multiply that by 20 million. I really have no idea what it is. I did an interesting drill yesterday. Well, first let me give you the update, a little BBC report from Syria, cut number Syria, please. For days, people in serious opposition controlled Italy province have suffered alone, now aid has finally arrived and more should follow soon. The province has little sophisticated equipment to rescue the many still trapped under rubble after 12 years of war, the area also has few functioning hospitals to treat the thousands of injured around half of the province's three and a half million people are displayed from other parts of Syria now in the snows of winter many others are homeless too. A giant earthquake strikes a region that has been bombed into oblivion by Assad the butcher. In turkey, The New York Times story today on takaya on takata, on taka, untuck it, that's how I'm going to say it a and TA kya on Tokyo. They vetted down wherever they could in lightless street corners in grassy little parks next to an elementary school on a hillside down from one of the world's earliest Christian churches. Across antakya, the ancient capital of hatai province, the region hit hardest by the worst earthquake in turkey nearly a century, thousands were struggling to make sense of the cataclysm that had turned their lives inside out. Left many with no home, no possessions, no memories, and for some no future here. Many were with grappling with getting through another night. Cars were too cold to sleep in, too small to hold the most families. But they could be warmer than tents, which were just a thin layer masking the total devastation of the people inside. Either was still preferable to a tarp stretched over a bus shelter or held up by poles. No matter how much wood and trash the ant attack ends burned to keep their families warned, it is still freezing cold. No electricity, no water, no toilets. You get 52. A nanny, giving special emphasis to the last item. No toilet. Thursday was the third day in a row. She had woken up freezing in the covered vegetable market where she and her family had taken shelter since Monday morning's early quake damage their home near the Mediterranean is horrible. She said, and the pictures confirm that. Some of the markets blue metal stands have been claimed as makeshift beds. Others were still heaped with parsley cabbage scallions and cauliflower now wilting. The ashes of misses you get the little fire, cradled a couple of charred peppers in a carrot. The only cooking or family was able to do in the city of edible marvels or Mediterranean Arab and Anatolian cuisines had been blended for short century. On Thursday, the United Nations first aid convoy rolled into the opposition controlled Syria. That's good. We will wait for tents, we'll die here in our chairs, said Cory in 70 who's sat in a blue camp chair on a mountainside promenade overlooking the city wrapped in a tooth thin blanket. Next year we're a carriage at parakeets, rescued from her family's home. People do unusual things when they flee, and grabbing the parakeets I suppose is going to be normal for someone who loves them. And talk to you has been around for 2300 years. It was founded by Alexander the Great in 300 BC. It's a modern city or it was, it's in ruins now. It was built atop layers and layers of other civilizations. An early Christian church founded in a cave by Saint Peter and Paul, ancient stone mosques in the oldest part of town, a stretch of fine Byzantium, mosaics, and covered in the construction of a hotel. It's all gone now. And I just can't get over how there's nothing there. I taught law school yesterday I had two classes and I asked all my students just as a beginning and kind of it did play into the end about reliance damages and what stare decisis means. How many of them had done earthquake prep. Because we're in California right Chapman law schools in California. And I got four out of two classes at dinner earthquake prep. So I quit the four. What's your earthquake prep? We'll get you go back and go. We're going to go. I'm not sure. What do you do about your family? Well, we'll figure it out when it happens. And my response to him was, when I had small children, we had one rule. You might not be able to contact anyone. So call your uncle or your aunt and tell them where you are as soon as you can, and we'll figure it out from there. And if we're all together, we're just getting the car and heading east. And if a 7.8 hits California, just be prepared, I went back and took a look. I'm going to play a game here with general asimo. Generally shimo, there have been three major earthquakes since I moved here in 1989. How big was Loma prieta? That's the San Francisco earthquake that disrupted the World Series. I want to say it was 7, 6.8 7. 6.9, not bad. New prices right, you lose with the first one. You win with the second one. Big bear quake of 1992. I think that was probably 6 point 5. 6.6 and northridge of 1994. Northridge was, I want to say 6 8 6 6 7. You're close. So all of these, the worst that I've been through is really the big bear quake was the closest to me and it really shook me up in 1992. Right. And that was 6.6. So if you go from 6.6 to 6.7, it's ten times more powerful. 6 point N is ten times more powerful than that. People should understand this except the Steelers fans, they keep adding ten and they say, if you had ten, it's only at 16.6. It's an exponential scale. Right. So 7.8 is off the charts. And California, we have not really felt a mega quake. We're earthquake central here, but it's a lot of medium sized shakers, not really one big one. And we lose 50 people. We lose a hundred people and it's terrible and it's tragic and the damage is immense and whether it happened in Napa Valley or during the World Series it's bad. It's a 7.8 in Southern California. It's going to be hell on wheels. And I just noted in Israel this morning, they sort of took a look at what happened and they have authorized an emergency $14 billion earthquake prepared in this plan, meaning they're going to try and do what California's been doing for 25 years. Buttress, the earthquake, foundations on overpasses and buildings. Tired rescuers, according to the telegraph, are facing down the anger of earthquake families. In southern turkey, a parking lot becomes an open air morgue, that picture is pretty devastating. Was the earthquake's high death toll preventable, geologists say yes. They always say yes, but no, it's not because we never, ever expect it's going to happen to us. If an 8 point hits California, we're surfing to Denver. Yeah, it's going to be a very bad day. I hope I am on the studio east coast when that happened and I'll pray for you. But I do want to thank everyone in our.

"Let parents decide. Pick freedom. Pick freedom everywhere. Governors with super majorities. Now, former FBI agent Nicole Parker, I'm not going to play by the way. I now have a new rule. I'm not playing Republicans who talk. All right, I like Republicans who talk, but Republicans are talking congressional hearings are wasting time. They need to get witness testimony. Witness testimony is all that matters. I don't care what the legislators say, I care how they vote. And I want the record to be built about what has happened at the FBI. This is former FBI agent Nicole Parker in front of the weaponization committee yesterday that Jordan committee cut number 19. Participating in the investigations of myriad criminal cases. The marjory Stoneman Douglas. High school shooting in Parkland, Florida. The 2017 fort Lauderdale airport shooting, the Caesar Sioux pipe bomb case, multi-million dollar Ponzi schemes, crimes on the high seas, bank robberies, murders for hire, sexual assault, extortions, and more. Yes, it was physically taxing and emotionally jarring. But I believed I was making an impactful difference. And every day I woke up and I embraced being an FBI special agent until things changed. Over the course of my 12 plus years, the FBI's trajectory has transformed on bureau, the papers, the Vera's mission, it remained the same, but its priorities and governing principles shifted dramatically. The FBI became politically weaponized starting from the top in Washington and trickling down to the field offices. Although FBI employees have their First Amendment rights, they are not at the liberty to allow their personal political views or preferences to determine their course of action or inaction in any investigation. Lady justice must remain blind. Those that do not uphold these responsibilities cause a negative ripple effect throughout the agency in the field. It's as if there became two FBI's, Americans see this, and it is destroying the bureau's credibility, causing Americans to lose faith in the agency and therefore the hardworking and highly ethical agents who still do the heavy lifting and pursue noble cases. It makes it very difficult for agents to do their job when the FBI loses the risk. I love agent Parker. It's authentic. It's real. And her line about there are two FBI's. I think that resonates. The FBI I know and knew our brave indeed fearless men and women, who are every day on the front lines of dealing with organized crime, international cartels, terrorism, and the worst things that can happen to America and they're very good at it. And if you ever got for bed, have a member of your family abducted, you want the bureau on the case. If you're ever objected, you want the beer on the case of the best law enforcement agency in the world. But that second FBI, the one that recently surfaced this week in Richmond, Virginia, with a memo detailing the threat posed by Roman Catholic traditional Latin mass attenders, is crazy. I do not know what happened. Now, I'm the first to tell you the rad triads, radical traditionalists. They are a subset of Catholics. And I am not one of them. The last Roman Catholic high mass I went to archbishop cordileone offered at the Napa institute. I think it's still going on. And it was wonderful. It was beautiful, but I mean, it's not a huge Hewitt mass. If you hear at mass is 40 minutes in silence. So I can hear the priest and I can hear the consecration and I can recite the prayers. And I know that that mess. I learned the Latin mass. The black mass is a friend of mine. It was until they pulled the rug out for me in third grade, having done all that man a couple of minutes a couple man Magna culpa. So I know and like the Latin mass, but I am not a rad Trat and I am not against Vatican two properly understood. I want the church to be growing and vibrant in the world as I want every other denomination to be growing in vibrant in the world. None of these people who are writing memos about the FBI will pass a 6th grade test about the Roman Catholic Church. I really believe if you got me whoever worked on that memo. I would be able to demonstrate profound ignorance of the rad trads. And how they got the idea. The only way they could work is to work backwards, which is always bad. Because anecdotal evidence is evidence of anecdotes, right? So they found one radical somewhere who is also a traditional Roman Catholic and going to the Latin mass and they reason backward that that's evidence that everyone who attends the traditional Roman Catholic Latin mass is a radical terrorist. And I thought to myself as Dwayne said earlier, David Allen white are a longtime friend, Patrick McCarthy, a longtime teacher at Thomas Jefferson high school. They're rad traps. And that's fine. David and I have long arguments about this about how the church thrives in the world and how the papacy ought to be conducted. And we agree more often than we don't agree, but David Allen white is no more likely to be a rad trad terrorist than I am or general lisey mower or anybody. It's just nuts. And how the FBI think, think of the opportunity cost. All right, what was those, what were those agents not doing in those ten hours? You have to say, Christopher Rey gave a press conference on cybercrime. And on the Chinese threat and this is where he's good. This is where I think, my gosh, they've got it. They've got a clue they're going to go out to America and warn them about the espionage being conducted by the CCP and Rey gave one of the 5 speeches. Vice president Pence, Christopher wray, attorney general Barr, national security adviser O'Brien, culminating with Secretary of State Pompeo at the Nixon library in the final year of the Trump administration outlining the threats by the Chinese Communist Party. And we got the Chinese spy balloon. All right, so you might say there's a fail there in the counter intelligence division because once that balloon is over American skies, it's a domestic problem, not just a DoD problem. Before that it was a CIA problem, and the balloon turns out to have been scarfing up all sorts of data, we did not want them to have. So why did we not know that? Who did we not surveil in the United States? What was the FBI doing writing memos about Latin mass attendees instead of following Chinese communist spies in the United States? And some of them, by the way, are on student visas. And they're overwhelming numbers. And some of them are perfectly legitimate honest students and other of them are trying to plug in air gapped computers with the download and steel espionage from the nation's leading university. It's not like this is a surprise. Why are we spending any time at all? Writing memos based upon what? The southern poverty law center yesterday AOC started quoting it like they have any legitimacy they don't, but I'm glad she did because I think it's going to make them government actors. If the government's going to rely on the southern Christian poverty law center or the southern poverty law center, which is another group, a nutter group that calls everyone they disagrees with terrorists. If the government is going to institutionalize them, then they state action what they do. And section 1983 actions are going to be brought against them. But the FBI going after traditional Catholics, that's so wrong. Meanwhile, the traditional Catholics are going over to save the food for the poor button at the top like you do at dot com and they're donating. That's what traditional Catholics are doing. They're giving of their of their need to help the people in turkey are not co religionists, and I hope you do too at the top of Hugh Hewitt dot.

What Have You Done for Me Lately?
"Hate to be the, what have you done for me lately guy, but I am the what have you done for me lately? Because I followed education Ohio for a long time. And when I go back to the Catholic school systems in which you're very well aware, they got capacity. They got desks, all they need is 5, $6000 per student. And they'll educate them. And we don't need to give $5000 to students who are going to go to school. I mean, some of the schools that are going to get that $5000 got huge endowments, right? It's choice though. What you're saying is, I don't want this kid to have choice. It's what it's going to mean. When you talk to college presidents, you talk to the admission officers in Ohio, it's going to need there's kids who want to go to college, have what they need to go to college, can't afford to go to college. This is going to be a significant boost to those kids. So you're arguing against choice. No, I'm arguing for fixed in the middle of first. I'm saying universal freedom for everyone at high school and then worry about later if you've got the money for college scholarship.

"I wouldn't mind a phase in the governor. I saw in your budget message that you said you're going to give $5000 to students to go to Ohio university. That's picking winners. Why not put that money into more school choice so that kids can get out of high school ready to go to work or again, I'm just concerned about the freedom of parents and students. We're doing a lot. You're talking about choices. We have dramatically increased our career check in the state of Ohio. We've got kids now who are in high school who are making the career check path so it wasn't just increasing funds for kids who want to go to college. We want more options and what we did. We talked about kids going to college. Yes. We gave them choices. And I don't know if that's picking winners or losing losers. We have 75 private schools colleges in the state of Ohio. We have 14 public institutions. They get to choose from all of those. We give them basically a voucher for $5000 and say, you're going to apply this to any school in the state of Ohio. So again, that, that is choice. But now governor, I follow this. You're a smart guy. It's also choice when a kid is in high school and decides they want to go into career tech. And making those the best that we have in the country is what we're doing to give them more choices. So that's all about that's all about choice. But governor, you're missing the middle. I mean, my point of view is when you give a budget, you put $5000 in the hands of every college going student, you're taking $5000 out of the hand of someone in the middle who doesn't qualify under the poverty test or the four times poverty level test. And who isn't going to go to college, so you're picking the winners, the excellent students are going to go to college. You're helping the people who are farthest behind, the people at the lowest end, and you're missing the middle and the key part of it from a national perspective is that Ohio could have made this domino fall. I mean, when Arizona led, I'm first to begin the Florida West Virginia, then doocy put it everywhere. Then Iowa joined on, then Utah joined on. Now everyone's looking at Ohio and all of a sudden, Mike dewine throws up. Three yard screen pass. If you think this is a three yard screen pass, I think you and I have a different understanding of football. This is about 60 yards down the field and it's a very good, very good play. So if you look at everything we're doing, more choice. The other thing that we're doing and this makes a big, big difference, we're now going to, when you look at the reading and how kids learn to read, we're finding that some of the schools are still light years back. And so we're returning for those schools. We're telling them, you need to return to phonics. You need to get the basics because this is how kids learn. And there's absolutely no doubt about that. So the governor, you've got a super majority. You can do whatever you want. If the legislature sends you backpack funding that's universal, would you sign it? If we could afford if we could afford it this year, we would do it. I'm just going to tell you something again and if you look at Ohio, we're very open with honest we're saying that this is what we're doing. If you look at what other states are doing, that's great. They pass they pass it backpack and they're phasing it in. So we are ahead of many of those states that you're giving credit for for a backpack. We're already ahead of them. And we're moving further ahead with this budget. And the reason I would contend that that's not an accurate depiction governor and I want to give you the floor is that I was taking four years to make sure the dislocation at the public school level is not enormous Arizona moved immediately, but you're next. And if you compare Ohio system, it's picking winners and losers as opposed to saying we're moving towards universal choice. And I understand that there are some rural districts. I talked to Matt Dolan about this. I imagine he and Bernie Moreno and Frank and everybody else who runs for a Senate will talk about this, but I go back to my question. If the legislature passes backpack funding, would you sign it? Well, sure, sure. But it's got, you know, we've got to be able to balance our budget. And we've got to be able to make sure kids actually have real choices out there. So again, this is semantics. I think we're ahead of these states. We've been moving towards school choice every budget that we've had. This one takes a quantum leap forward..

Let me grab you a trash can. Stop. Instead of throwing money away, move some clothes into a carry on. And here's a better tip from progressive on how not to waste money. Don't pay too much for car insurance. Drivers who switch and save could save hundreds, progressive casualty insurance company and affiliates, potential savings will vary. Morning, glory, America, bonjour, high candidate who's here from studio west last night. It was revealed that Joe Thomas has been inducted into the Hall of Fame, the 2007 first round draft choice of the Cleveland Browns taking third overall from the university of Wisconsin. The best maybe they ever played at left tackle, and we're celebrating Ohio today and we're doing it with Ohio governor Mike dewine. Governor dewine, I know you're a Bengals fan and I know you're disappointed, but surely you must celebrate Joe Thomas going into the Hall of Fame. Absolutely. Absolutely. So governor, I asked you on yesterday because I read your budget message and I'm going to be candid with you. I'm disappointed. Arizona, Iowa, Utah, have gone to universal school choice. You proposed expanding school choice in Ohio, but not the backpack funding where every student could make their own free choice of where to go to school. Why stop the momentum? This is a pretty expansive plan that we put forward you. We've taken a family of four earning up to a $120,000 a year is now going to be eligible. So it's a big expansion. We continue to expand it. Frankly, we've got to make sure that the supply and demand are somewhat aligned and we've got actually choices for these families to make. So we're getting criticized by some people who don't like school choice. We like school choice. We think it's a very, very positive thing. The everything we've done in regard to our charter schools, our high performing charter schools, we started something when I became governor and that is additional funding for the high quality charter schools and this is in response to requests from business leaders in some of our major cities and say, look, we want to attract high quality charter schools here or we want to expand the charter schools that we already have. But you're not paying enough money. So we've dramatically increased the funds for that as well. So governor, don't get me wrong. It's better than most, but it's not as good as some. And I want Ohio to lead and what I'm afraid of. You're considered one of the most successful governors in the country. You won overwhelming reelection. You've done a lot of great things for Ohio. But we got momentum on freedom, meaning that parents are going to be able to send their kids wherever they want, including public schools, and it's building in Iowa, Arizona that's going to pass in Utah this week. It's going to happen in other states. And everyone was looking to Ohio is being the first sort of major industrial center, one that needs to attract parents to go work at Intel factories that you're opening up outside of Columbus. I don't think it's enough because you're still picking winners and losers. You're helping the poorest kids, and that's good. And you're helping the most excellent kids and that's good. But what about the parents who just want to get their student out of a mediocre public school that's got ideology in it. You're not letting them out. Here, we got to balance our budget too in Ohio. We're not, we're not the federal government. We can't run deficit spending. And so we're taking this with moving it up. It's a dramatic, it's a dramatic move, you know, a $120,000. Everybody below that example below that, family of four is eligible for this for this money. So look, I have a responsibility to all the people people of Ohio to make sure that we've got a balanced budget that we're moving forward and that when these things are offered that there's enough schools actually out there that can take these kids. So there's a demand signal because I disagree with you. We're moving. And if you look at some of the other states, frankly, that are saying they're doing it, they're phasing their Iowa is facing..

Passing the Backpack Bill in Ohio
"Now, the two one big are you. You're the comfortable shoes governor and Ron DeSantis is the iron toed boot governor, right? He's out there. And so you two said that way, but that's about right, right? You're the comfortable shoes governor, and he's got the steel steel toed boots that you wear on the work side, 'cause they're better. I think actually at the more genteel place Ohio than Florida politics. I think there's a style. It's probably a style difference between the two of us, but, you know, we are out there fighting every single day for jobs coming into a while. I mean, we're very aggressive about jobs we've kept taxes down and kept regulations reasonable. We've created an environmental Ohio that's conducive for jobs to grow. And so, you know, I think that while my style may be a little different, you know, I think people like that. Oh, they do, I mean, I like it. Governor, tell me what the backpack Bill is going to be like under your stewardship. It will go to the Supreme Court, which is a big win for ohioans, including your son reelected. But we now have four reliable conservative justices on the Ohio Supreme Court, so if you pass a backpack Bill, it will, it will be upheld. Ohio, Ohio is a school choice state. And we continue to move further and further towards that. And you're going to see continuous movement, I think in this legislature, legislation, whether backpack Bill per se passes, I don't know, but what we believe in is parents, right? And we believe in giving, you know, parents choices, particularly where they're in failing schools or in schools or it's very difficult for the kids to get the right education. Hey, good morning. How are you doing, kid? I'm disappointed, but then again, I've been worse. I've been better and I've been worse. Tell us what happened, Michael. Well, did you deliver trumbull county for JD Vance? I did. We worked hard on that. And JD won fairly comfortable. Mike dewine delivered for JD Vance. That's what happened there. Well, I'll tell you what I think happened. I think that what we saw was American voters repudiated the last of the two most recent American press Donald Trump. And Joe Biden, the Democrats lost the House majority. They've gone from 235 seats when Biden was the anointed nominee down towards two 11 or lower. It looks to me like the Republicans will get a majority in the Senate, but a bare majority. And I think they repudiated Donald Trump. I mean, you saw what happened to the Trump or the Trump backed Senate candidates underperformed that people who put money in for the primaries and publicity and then didn't put any money into the general election. Blake masters seems to be behind in Arizona, state that Republicans won every Senate race from 1992 to 2016. You have men that are lost in Pennsylvania where the other candidate Dave McCormick would have probably won against a guy who was incapable of debating. I think he had them wax out will come through in Nevada. But it's he had a previous history prior to Trump. And JD Vance won in Ohio a state that Trump carried by 8 points. He seems to have carried it by 7, which suggests something in the nature of a declining appeal and he ran 9 points behind governor Mike dewine. So, yeah, I think that, you know, the big winner, Ron DeSantis.
