"Greene Alabama is facing a corona virus crisis right now the state has nearly fifteen thousand confirmed cases about a third of those are from the past two weeks alone according to the state's public health department according to one tractor Alabama is now outpacing forty six other states and the district of Columbia in new cases Dr David thrasher is seeing what this bike looks like first hand well it's a it's pretty tough the numbers in Alabama numbers steadily going up he's the chief of staff at Jackson hospital in the city of Montgomery last weekend when I was on call we sell a hundred forty patients which is twice her normal boy in this time of year well the hospital's per se are are hurting it's gotten so bad that hospitals in Montgomery are sending coronavirus patients out of the county for treatment thrasher says many of the patients are actually young but we have H. skate the surge but out this combat without then just the last three weeks if the situation at Jackson hospital sounds dire that's the story all over the city of Montgomery yesterday only six I see you beds were available across the health system last week one intensive care unit that was available the mayor of Montgomery Stephen Reid says things are at crisis levels at a time when the state has been easing restrictions and may re joins us on the line this morning mayor thanks for the time always a pleasure what are you hearing from hospitals like Jackson hospital in in terms of what they need most in this moment right now what I'm hearing is that they're looking for us to sound the alarm and to let people know we're still middle of a pandemic in that we are in a health crisis and that they're running short on PPVs they're they're running short obviously on beds in that you know the staffs are physically emotionally spent so we have to do our part as as leaders in the community to make sure we get the public to understand this is not over we have not won a battle with Kobe nineteen yet and we have to continue some of the things that we were doing just a couple months ago by staying at home where masked men in public in part to saying all of these sanitary guidelines have been handed down by the CDC have you been seeing people in the city social distancing wearing masks similar or residents taking those precautions I think some are adding some had decided that depended because over in their bid to get back to their normal way of doing things and they're willing to take the risk unfortunately it's not just themselves they put at risk when they do that they put members of the public out there friends family colleagues at risk and certainly our first responders and those medical professionals who also doing you know this a great job have been over the last couple of months is there something that makes your city more vulnerable like where do you think this bike is coming from right now you know we can't point to any one particular place or a flash point if you will I think would would makes us vulnerable is the fact that we have the regional health care center for central Alabama and so we have people that come from as far away as ninety hundred miles to our health care system so we're getting people from everywhere and certainly at the here Montgomery we've had people who again have relaxed their approach to never likes their practices in art here into social guidelines anymore why I know the governor Kay Ivey has has moved ahead with lifting restrictions in the state's despite some concerns that that you've expressed I mean do you have the authority and are you planning to maybe put stricter measures back in place in your city after two hundred and forty percent increase month over month in covert cases we're planning to do whatever we have to do in order to change the string and we have limited authority unfortunately as mayor but there are things that we can do from our main daily mass which we've been encouraging for well over two months making that in into a city ordinance to also maybe looking at other ways to tie the faucet so to speak so we're gonna try to do what we can I've we don't see these numbers change here in the next few days the next few days I mean what what is the process I mean did you have to like go to city council and get then when it's passed and signed and and announce it and get it out there I mean it sounds like you really are a crisis moment where where actions like this might be needed ABS absolutely we we need to go to the council and had a discussion with them but we're prepared to do that we already have some of those discussions and we're watching the numbers each day and we talk with our medical professionals in this community in our hospital CEOs to also get their feedback as well about the ongoing conditions all right again speaking to Steven Reid the mayor of Montgomery Alabama his city and the state of Alabama seeing a real crisis moment as cases of coronavirus have been increasing in

Ray someone gets ABC Alabama. It's been kind of leading the way has shocked the nation when Jones was able to win a US spinach. It was ninety eight percent of African American women is a fate of Alabama who propped up who supported him and those same group of women are excited and energized a prophet the state of Alabama where we have a viable gubernatorial candidate and a young player who happens to be my classmate. That from the city of Tuscaloosa when President Obama came down. Fans to be on the national stage. We got five tornado hit Tuscaloosa, Alabama where the university Alabama is located where those college students were impacted this young man took the city of Tuscaloosa from devastation, that's a rebuilding and just a place of emerging economic development. If young man that was running for governor state of Alabama. But let me tell you about the Trump effect the current governor who actually was appointed. Of course, she didn't shit Lieutenant governor after our Republican governor in the state of Alabama was great by having an affair and moving on his campaign money to help his mistress. He resigned from office in the female governor Kay Ivey came into office. She has supported Trump she supported ROY Moore. She thinks that the Trump effect is gonna help her so much of the state of Alabama. She will not debate Walt Maddox at all she literally will not interview for the job. Governor she will not go before the citizens of the state of Alabama to say why weeks it supports her. Therefore that is upset people as Lael on the progressive. Energized. And. That the Trump effect is enough..
