"Bachelor finale we need should be in half an hour Tops should make the convention should basically be. I'm Joe Biden. She's comma Harris. If you're still undecided at this point, I don't know what to tell you. Your morning Wisconsin James Carton. Weighing in on the exuberance, extravagance unnecessary. Nonsense of what is our political conventions in this country, You know, to all the textures. I've been a little hard on the DNC. I will be equally hard in the RNC next week. Whatever that is. I'm not even sure what their plan is. Yet. They're starting a week out some details. President has said he's going to speak. In the White House. I look forward to that presentation and see what he has to say This. It is the Part of Americana, right? We have to have the conventions now one of the interesting dynamics of this year's DNC other than the fact that we're pandemic and it's not really happening is that's Former Ohio Governor John Kasich. Has Basically said he's voting for Biden. To the point where he's actually are actually spoke last night. But before we get to that, he did an interview with CNN's Don Lemon. I've I've actually been on Don Lemon's show all the way back in 2012. I'm not a huge fan of his for a lot of different reasons, but he's got a show on CNN and he had John Kasich. John American politician. Author News guy news host. Commentator obviously and author of Plenty of Op. EDS. About politics in our country. Here's a little bit of that interview and then a little kind of set up. Our conversation was going to play a little bit of the Of his conversation to the American people last night at the Democratic National Convention. You've been critical of President Trump since the very beginning, and you've even supported his impeachment but going with a Democratic candidate for president, a whole different ball game. How'd you get to this point conscience? Don, you know you and I've done a lot of shows together. And you know, at the end, I hope you know this that I try to follow my conscience in terms of what seems right to me. And you know, I didn't support Trump the last time because I was on the debate stage with them. I watched him and I was afraid he was going to be a divider, not a unifier, somebody that would go out of his way to be critical of people of the other party or didn't think the way he did. And unfortunately turned out to be right. So I looked around and I say, K. Now what? And we can't continue to go down this path. It's it's I mean, people are now speaking to each other if they disagree with them with through clenched teeth. There's almost hatred going on. This has to stop because the great things that happened in our country whatever they are women's suffrage, civil rights, they happen when we come together. Not when we're divided, so I felt that Joe Biden would be a unifier. He would stop this division and we get back. Teo, you know, sort of a civil conversation could be arguments could be strong. But at the end of the day, I think that he will include people not exclude them and stop the name calling former Ohio Governor John Kasich, who also was a featured speaker last night at the DNC, We'll get to that in a second. The points are interesting, though he identified way back in 3 2016 election that he saw Donald Trump as a divider. Not a unifier Tonight. I'm hard pressed to disagree with that. The president is a lot of things for the ardent and strident supporters of the president. He does what they like. He votes the way With his his words the way they want. He's certainly appoint Supreme Court justices that they like and they are more than happy to vote for him, and that's your right as an American citizen, and I know there's a lot of people out there because I hear from all the time. At the same time, there is a group of Republicans. Who don't want to vote for this president. And I'll put it in a different way. There are conservative Republicans who hate this president. Because they don't feel the represents conservatism. Nor any of the ideology that they have. Stood for over the all the time they've been a conservative Republican, and I think that's in disputes. When you talk about this 2020 version of our presidential elections. We had this happen. Before we've had people say I I find myself not able to vote for my candidate. It's having on both sides of the aisle throughout history. But this is an interesting one. And it's not the greatest election of our lifetime. There all the greatest selection of our lifetimes Depending on hold, you are and what year it is, they're all big. They're all they're all matter. They'll decide the future in some ways or another on what our future looks like, as a country and as a citizen. But when I hear something like John Kasich It was a candidate for president in 2000 and 2016 both times. Last time we went up against this current President, Donald J. Trump didn't like what he saw. It does, I think, raised the question. Can you be conservative and Republican? And vote for Joe Biden, a Democrat who is nothing close to the mostly conservative principles you stand for, and to me. Although I'm not voting for either candidate it is and I think it easy answer. And the answer is yes. Because we see it being demonstrated. But John Kasich now he was Chosen to give a speech last night at the DNC. Here's a little bit of what that sounded like. Many of us have been deeply concerned about the current path We've been falling for the past four years..

Democratic Convention: Democrats make their case for Joe Biden

"Are making their together defeat Donald Trump and elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as our next president and vice president. Former first lady Michelle Obama, in a taped address, offered her emotional reasons for supporting Joe Biden. If we have any hope of ending this chaos, we have got to vote for Joe Biden, like our lives depend on it. Still this Invention is unlike anyone before no big arenas that take on a rock concert vibe. I'm speaking to you from a small radio studio in Washington, not the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, where convention organizers that once playing the host this event and that has presented bill challenges and opportunities So Ji Hinojosa, this senior advisor and the communications director for the Democratic National Committee. She joined me and Fox News radio political analyst Josh Cross Our after the curtain dropped or, more appropriately, the video conference ended on the convention's first night. So cheese. We were watching this and in listening along this evening, it seemed to me that that the strategy for this first night was trying to maybe build a big tent sort of explained to me. How this evening came together with having a virtual state shared by by somebody like Bernie Sanders, who represents certainly that more progressive wing of the Democratic Party. And former Ohio Governor John Kasich, who is not a Democrat at all. Well, absolutely. I think tonight just showed unity, which is it kicked off the first day of our convention of Uniting America. And I think that whether it was John case are Bernie Sanders or Michelle Obama. It just shows A broad coalition that we're building. Then there are also the stories of Americans all across this country. You had a a dreamer who is on the front lines of this pandemic on DH who is a first responder. You had a woman. I think this was one of the main moments of the night that everyone keeps pointing Tio Kristin from Arizona, who lost her father to Kobe. My dad was a healthy 65 year old. His Onley preexisting condition was trusting Donald Trump, and for that he paid with his life. And so that was just one of those gut wrenching moments when you realize listen, look at what this man has done to our country on DH. Yet you have leaders from all across this country, regardless of who they voted for in 2016 come together and make their voices heard. He's part of the strategy here to try and win over. Maybe those who had supported President Trump previously over to the Democratic side. Is this trying to make sure that those who supported somebody in the primary other than Joe Biden? Support him. Now is that sort of the big sort of strategy here that's underway trying to bring like everybody together. We absolutely want to reach out to everyone. That's the only way that we win. We want to make sure that those who are registered to vote that didn't turn out in 2016 turnout because they understand the stakes in the election regardless of political affiliation. We want people to know who if they voted for Donald Trump in 2016, that they can come over and vote for Joe Biden and that he will be studying leadership. We also want people to know those who are first time voters and registered to vote for the first time because they're angry. What's happening in this country? Well untenable for Joe Biden and this is making sure that if that we have the broadest coalition possible, because that is the only way that we win. But how do you govern that way? How does a John Kasich Republican and Bernie Sanders, Democrat Find their way in a governing structure. Well, what you have seen and from Joe Biden is that he can work across the aisle. He's done this to rot his entire career. And he wants to get things done. And he wants to make sure that I think that what you saw tonight were these three crises. Ray and Joe Biden wants to tackle them, and that is the pandemic. That is the economic downturn. And that is the racial inequalities that face our country right now, and what we were trying to showcase tonight is that Joe Biden Steady leadership could get us through this, and it's going to take a broad coalition to do that. And to work across party lines in order to get us out of this mess, and so you can govern this way, Frank, you have to reach out. To various parts of not only our party, but you know all Americans in order to do this, and Joe Biden will stick by his values, as he always has.

The Democratic National Convention: Michelle Obama blasts Trump

"Democratic National Convention Night. One of the Democratic convention is over It like the energy, we usually expect no cherry, no hollering. But Democrats and some known Democrats tried to make the case against President Trump. The headline speaker was former first lady Michelle Obama she had praised for Joe Biden. Not so for the President Donald Trump is the wrong president. For our country. He has had more than enough time to prove that he could do the job, but he is clearly in over his head. He cannot meet this moment, and Bernie Sanders talked about the importance of the election. The future of our democracy is at stake. The future of our economy is at stake. The future of our planet is at stake. Even some Republicans spoke, former Ohio Governor John Kasich said Joe Biden, Khun Bring the country together.

"Can dream big dreams and we can see the top of the mountain as a united States of America with the soul. It is a beacon of freedom to the entire world. Ah Quartet of Republicans on winding up with Governor John Kasich, former governor of Ohio, speaking out for why they've chosen come ahead and and support Joe Biden. Let's turn to one of summer's if we can, by the way, governor speaking at an actual crossroads, talkingabout the crossroads. This election represented wasn't a little perhaps heavy handed with the imagery there, But he's certainly he's someone who has been a lifelong Republican who's who has been a presidential aspirant himself, who has decided to come out and speak out against against this president to join this convention. And there's been mixed response from some Democrats is our colleague, Scott Petro, was talking about earlier, a number of Democrats were not pleased that on the first night of the convention, a number of Republicans in an unusual move are part of the conversation. One thing I noticed one of all of their endorsements of Joe Biden seemed to be on a personal level, and I wonder if this isn't very successful argument many ways politically to say, Look, you are making a personal decision. When you cast your vote for president and we're telling you Whatever our political differences, this is the best personal decision. You hear that from a lot of Republicans and also from a lot of Democrats who talk about Joe Biden's decency has compassion. Those personal connections are part of the reason when they chosen to back Senator Doug Jones of Al around up in the South, blowing up in the midst of start divisions. But it was here in Alabama, where Rosa Parks helped it, not a movement by refusing to give up her seat on a bus. Were freedom. Riders of different races came together in pursuit of equality. And it was here in Alabama, where John Lewis marched across a bridge toward freedom from a young age. I knew the hope that comes from seeing good people work to heal our divisions..

It was supposed to take place in Milwaukee, the city's mayor, Tom Barrett, the bummer, but obviously the pandemic has forced us to put things in perspective and the perspective that unfortunately I'll have to recognize 170,000 people in this country. The theme tonight is we, the people among the speaker, Senator Bernie Sanders, Democratic governors Andrew Cuomo and Gretchen Whitmer and some Republicans, including former Ohio Governor John Kasich. "So what do you actually do what they ought to be grandfather they ought to be said you get to stay and then when it comes to immigration itself we need to know who's coming we need to be able to protect our borders but i don't want to be shrinking legal immigration i think people create a great deal to our country trade you know it's a thorny issue but forty million americans have trade related jobs and most of the businesses that are involved in exporting or small and mediumsized businesses and consumers benefit from open and free enough it's not open and free find and have a process to restore equity but just don't go out to create a trade war those are things what else you want to ask about i mean those are two the jump at me there's lots of them yeah i throw a couple of others we actually did meet once before it was at i believe it was the first or second republican debate and i asked you a question in everyone's jamming strong strong were jamming their megaphones in my face or trust me i had to fight through plenty of people to get the question but basically at my question to you was that the social issues that gay marriage in particular i could tell you i think the first debate you immediately said they asked you about it and you said that's not what i want to focus on i think i can't remember exactly what i said but it did get you know look i it's not i'm not that's not where i want to live because that is dividing i mean in terms of gay marriage i'm fine with it i think it was that time when i said i was going to.

"Gerrymandering is very very serious problem we've fixing it in ohio and i'm proud of my legislature for doing it that's a big part of it but isn't a big part of it also to kind of people we elect you know and do you carry virtue into these offices and be willing to take risk i got a friend of mine now who's just got on the city council and he called me the other day said i just seem to be making everybody mad because they all want to have this this thing that they want to do and i think it's dumb and i said yeah just just pick your battles and be pleasant and before and you know we shouldn't want to be in these jobs wherever it's natural nobody wants to go to work and lose their job that okay nobody wants to do that but you're not in these jobs for for a long time i don't think you should be at the end of the day is that really what the government's role is just making sure we have jobs making sure we're basically secure greatest moral purpose is is to provide an environment for job creation because that's what creates human dignity right that's what strengthens communities and build strength and families for the government of the united states make sure that we have we are protected that we can be free and yet safe and then it's also domestic tranquillity you know that we're at peace where we are so if you have high unemployment it's terrible so i believe our greatest moral purpose as politician for me and my job is the fact that i need to have a job creating environment so as interesting as i'm listening to you i can understand the reasons for not liking trump and the tweets and virtue and all of that i can get that in terms of policy of the things that he's done well let's talk about a couple of things you know talk about immigration i mean the idea that we're going to ship these daca kids out to me is but we're i don't even know where the democrats are we talking about trump i mean we're in the democrats is bar is bernie and his leftwing philosophies i i don't know where the democrats are but this daca thing should be solved i mean these are these are people twenty five twenty six twenty seven years old it came here when they were six.

"But really kind of debating how we're supposed to behave don't you think yeah well that's what we're doing what was so amazing about the kneeling it was brought about by the the guy that played for the forty niners people didn't know this i was told this you know he's a devout christian calling capture neck when people hear that they're like whoa you know isn't it interesting that when we dig into somebody who we feel one way or another about it's amazing sometimes how we find out things that change our fundamental attitude towards them did you find that that whole situation actually was what was right about american bizarre way i found that everybody was screaming about here's what here's what he was saying in jail but here's what i think where it got lost i don't feel that the players themselves were able to articulate to americans exactly why they were doing that and exactly what they wanted i was kind of lost in the motion as opposed to what is real what's behind this you know what is really behind this you know i'm a black man and i've worn my kid that be careful when you're out there late at night and what you might find i think people heard that and they understood that they would say oh so that was the one way you had to say something because it's so divided the country now people had different views but you know what i found dave what i have found in my life is if you pull people together like we have on police and community tough issue i just had to police officers killed murdered in my little hometown in ohio.

"They were all frayed of him and what happened it was it was from the street up a lot of social change the end of the nam war how much longer would the generals have said we were winning and by the way look at afghanistan they keep saying oh we're victories just around the corner terrible and so you have a situation here where you can't just expect change in the country because i've elected good i have a new good coach so therefore i'm going to win a basketball game it doesn't work that way it works both ways yeah good leader but a great group of people that drive the drive change how dangerous then is that called the personality that we've now made around the president and i'm not just talking about trump here i mean even with obama and plenty of the other presidents that we think that somehow the executive branch one person is going to you know there's a book that i i don't know i'm like i don't know a lot of things here i'm getting might be over the book is not here it is a book that says this and and i have never talked about this before like on television i was with a a great preacher got six thousand people he's into silicon valley he's very grace oriented and hopeful and he's just he's a phd in psychology just got all this stuff all this talent and i was asking him i said i keep telling people it's bottom up not top down hey said well john it's interesting because a man wrote a book and the book says that when pieces of our society start to erode let's think about it facebook wells fargo.

"Right yeah really write that down good one individ then collectivism but if you're a young person you go i don't know what's wrong with that and but look there my hope because they would rather take a job that pays less if the job has meaning look at what they're doing in parkland look what these young people are doing across this country and using social media to to have a voice i mean it's it's really awesome i mean it's it gets me really pumped up yeah z i think we need a new era of activism and citizenship and by the way we're we fixate all the time on the leader okay did you see that movie on churchill darkest hour i didn't see it yet i just come a lot of him in the crowd why why don't you do gary oldman i know i gotta get out there on demand now i'll do it tonight john casick i'm giving you my word you have my word anyway here's the thing watching tonight in that movie and this is made up stuff he gets on he gets goes down and gets on the subway and he's talking to people and they're like you wear not giving in and they stay embolden him set the fire in him i'm not telling you that that he wasn't a great leader because clearly he was but it was a bottom up and top down i mean when we think about the civil rights movement i mean they the great leaders martin luther king day and get help politicians were frayed to him including jfk.

"Yeah all right well that's what we're going to do here for the next hour you mentioned a couple of interesting things there so you didn't grow up in a republican family and you just use the phrase conservative democrat yeah so one of the things i talk a lot about here is that it seems to me before we get into your party that the conservative democrat or the blue dog democrat or sort of the moderate down there a lot of them were buddies of mine in congress today friends do they really exist anymore i think this is i think this young man in pennsylvania's blue dog democrat from what i can see now he got elected at thirty three i think i was thirty so he's kinda old timer yeah but no i i think that i think in both parties it's really hard if you're a republican you gotta fear the right and if you're a democrat you fear the left and it just pulls everybody apart you know that though but you've managed to kind of work through something that's sort of centrist right somehow well i don't know what that means you know one guy once told me the only thing that goes down the middle of a road are yellow lines and dead skunks okay and i'm i'm not but i'm a common sense person well i guess so look i look at an issue and say okay what do we do about it and we look at a problem how do we fix the problem but i'm not really going to have an ideological force that's pulling me back but the same time being a conservative i wanna see what the solutions are without having to bring bureaucracy or government in and i'll tell you why that is is because government inherently is so subject to political considerations that people have a hard time make calling a spade a spade it's like no no i got all these pressures and i don't like that and so when you go to government you can get trap but you get trapped with big business to big business you know you try to i need this prescription you know and somebody out here is telling me oh no no it costs too much big things like that all have always bothered me you know big institutions whether it's government.
