"NRA, I LA I lay for institute for legislative action the responsible for Indiana. And my long time buddy Representative Jim Lucas in gentlemen, just before the last segment was talking about how governor Holcomb in a fairly, exciting fashion. Fairly dramatic fashion. Signed house Bill twelve eighty four there during the enter a Lucia conference after he was the last speaker is appreciably after President Trump is spoken. Vice president Pence which was exciting and several other speakers, and I went through the immunity provisions that people have been here in not only me talk about all three of us talk about really we've we've all here on the gun guy show been discussing this. But what are we talking about here in our last segment is that there are things that are in twelve eighty four that I'm not sure everybody completely knows? Out there in the public and we've done more for gun owners than just civil immunity. Jim there's more in there in oh, I'm going to pull a Donald Trump here and say that this is the greatest piece of gun rights and freedom legislation in probably a century. Seventeen ninety one when the second amendments. Veritable copious of freedom. Not just we you know, the foundation of it was twelve eighty four. The ridge version was protection of people's right to defend themselves and others. And then from there with a rip rip been small to just incredible work behind the scenes with the the free five year license in the the church property, you know, carrying on that. And that came right on the heels of Lanka when we saw the horrible tragedy play out in that just reemphasize, you know, the absolute necessity of being able to fend yourself at all places all times we set that a little bit because it's never been specifically illegal to carry gun in a church in Indiana over for a long time. It's been legal to carry on school property in the way, Indiana has defined school property that includes any property that has a school on it, including church that just might just so happens to share common property with the school. So one school or one church, I should say. Across the street that has no school on the same property, so they legal to carry their. But just because there's a school not even in session. No kids are in it. But there's a school somewhere on the same property was a felony to carry in that church and effective today. Both the civil immunity provisions and the church carry provisions we've been calling it is the law today if even if there's a school on the same property today, you can carry a gun in that church as of this weekend. That was that we put in one of them on the Senate side to make it effective immediately. Because obviously, we you know, we shouldn't have to wait to be able to protect ourselves. And we're having to jump through these hoops anyway to to get to this point. But we are heading back towards the constitution. You know, I know there's a lot of people out there that don't think we're making enough headway, but we're getting there room making huge strides in we're going to get there. And that's one of the things Dr packing. We're talking about earlier, you know, what can we do next year to move the ball even forward, and we got some great things up or sleeve, and we're going to be working with the nice thing time is on our side. Because what it does proves all the fear mongering and all the horrible things. You know that the opposition says is going to have the vigilantism the blood in the streets shoot onside things like that working towards constitutional carry Mike ultimate goal is in the elimination of gun free zones to respect the rights of people defend themselves anywhere anytime in a responsible manner. In those people that are irresponsible and hold them accountable. We'll Chris Capac you gotta tell ya. I've described you last weekend as a superhero behind the scenes super session. And I appreciate what with long hours and hard work. And you have a unique ability. I bring people together and build consensus and get people past hurdles, they may otherwise have as I congratulate you because a lot of times guy behind the scenes, I don't know that you get the recognition that you deserve first and foremost, but having said that you gotta feel pretty good about what you and the rest of this team Jim Lucas in Ben small. And Kristie Stutzman Jerry tower and others. You got to feel pretty good about what what's happened this session, Indiana. I do thank you very much for saying that I appreciate that. You know, the recognition goes to represented Lucas representive small as others that you mentioned Jerry to war for the work that they did the session. I'm going into meetings behind closed doors getting things worked out, you know, my job is to supply them with information and assistance as I can't be a resource for them. And I don't know if you had to talk about this today, but to recognize representatives represented Lucas for all their hard work this year. We actually presented them with the NRA. I l a defender of freedom of off. Is it gets? It's the least we could do. Thank you for all their hard work put in the session. That's awesome. Well, and now I mean in this keeps coming up, and I want you to tell me, Chris whether this is this is overly optimistic or enthusiastic, but we keep describing twelve eighty four is something that should be model. Legislation all across the country in terms of the civil of munity component of that. Do you really see that happening? I do we talk all my colleagues across country. We talk regularly every week, and we discussed them that ideas, and some things that we're doing specifically the civil immune thing, we've talked about as Walsum the other components that Bill because we've got bipartisan support on many of the components of that Bill. So I I think we'll see places country. That is awesome. We'll tell you what these guys right here sitting in front of our little temporary booth deserve a lot of credit. We got a lot done. And that's a great way to end tonight's gun guy show, this guy real on the gun guy show on ninety three WIBC. Hammer and NITEL gas stations in general, the quality of food has gone up. Last night from the state of the state address with governor Holcomb was can you can you name me something you mentioned farmers being important sounds pretty good come on. Got to be smelted expansion of government one policy after another wasn't expansion of government at the cost of everyone else. I mean, even when he talked about exempting veteran pensions that costs me money, why are certain people better than someone else. Why can't everyone have their income tax exempted? Why are we picking winners and losers? It was one policy after another in which he pits hoosiers against each other picking winners and losers. I'm tired of that get government out of the way reform government and let everybody benefit from the saving. It seems like the governor's high on hate crimes legislation to the rest of the GOP agree. What's the what's the percentage wise who disagrees who agrees who's pro who's against some sort of a hate crime legislation? Well, that's a great example. It's another example of him picking winners losers, pitting people against each other. If you fall into this class, you're sentencing should be more severe than if you fall into this class. "Usual. One thing. I think is do you think there's going to be any one overriding issue, or is it just the the budgets, what dictates everything it might be teacher pay depending on how that goes the weird thing with teacher pay is organization day. Brian Bosma announced that we were going to have the teacher pay initiative. It's time it's time for Republicans joined Democrats and getting this done details to follow in a week or two. Well, it's now been more than a month and not only the details, not followed. But Brian Bosma under a COCOM seemed to be not on the same page about just when should all this take place. I think to some degree that semantics I think they're basically saying the same thing, but they're taking some flack and until there's actually a plan on the table. I think that continues the Democrats are going to keep saying, where's the plan? Where's the plan? Where's the plan? No by April will know if this is come together or not. And if they come together with a plan. Nobody's going to care that the rollout was a little bit shakey. So depend. On how quickly that comes together. And what it looks like that could dominate the session or it could be one of these things like workforce development has usually been two thousand eighteen notwithstanding. But something like workforce development that sales through ninety nine to one and intends not to arouse a lot of attention. But I think for the mentally my friend for me, the what I have a hard time getting my arms around with the whole issue of teacher pay is teachers salaries are dictated by school boards and the unions that they negotiate with and that's why we need to see the plane. And they meaning Brian Bosma and governor Holcomb have both said, we're not gonna take away local school boards authority. Well, then how do you do that? Because as as you said that's who sets the salaries and it set by contract and.

"So what did Mike Pence do will Mike Pence and his people figured out? We we certainly want to take this money from the federal government that was the ObamaCare expansion because that's how we buy votes. That's what we do here. That's what the politicians do. They buy the votes in. This case was giving away free healthcare, but we can't call it ObamaCare. So what Mike Pence dead was he went to the Obama administration said look you want to have government funded health care. I want to run for president. I can't call it ObamaCare. What are you say? We'll take the money, which is basically the expansion of Medicare, and we'll call it something else feel but administration quickly said deal you want to know how bad hip two point zero as the Obama administration signed off on it. That's all you need to know. Right. Do you think you'll bomb administration was signing off on anything that was free market? That's yourself. That's a rob KENDALL thing. That's a reality thing. I'm no fan of Mike Pence. But you think Obama was signing off on anything that was free market in health care. No, Mike Pence figured out though. The most popular politician in the history of Indiana was Mitch Daniels and his signature ID on healthcare which actually did involve free markets on accountability. For the most part was hip. So I know we'll call it hip two point. Oh, now other than the godfather, can you name me one movie with a sequel was as good as the first one. Oh, of course, not of course. And that's the dirty little secret. That's why they did the gas tax. It's why they're doing the other taxes. They're not going to fund roads. This is why they have a revenue shortage. They claim all these businesses are rolling in. They have a revenue shortage because they have a gigantic problem, which is government funded health care, which is now funded primarily by you, the taxpayer of the state of Indiana, and they can't be honest with you because they sold it to you. There was a free market solution. And it's really not in the running out of money. How else do you explain it governor Holcomb if you've got another explanation on how you can have a thirty two billion dollar biennial budget, and you can claim your the state that works and money's the money and businesses are flowing in like wind this. "Progress governor Holcomb would they be seeking to reverse. Would it be the largest tax increase in the history of our state what you did on gasoline in two thousand seventeen or this incredibly terrible one billion dollar tax on truckers which will also be passed onto me in the price of goods and services, which which quote progress, and the fact that you consider that progress, it's scary one. What what would they want to reverse people need to get their heads around this? And I said this last week when I filled in for Tony cats in the morning show on people lost their minds, and I said premier on. If someone can prove me wrong, I'll gladly here at Robin kindle on Twitter. How could we have been any worse off if John Greg had been our governor, let's say John Greg had won the election. What would have been worse would he have raised taxes forty eight times instead of forty six. Would he have levied one point one billion dollar gasoline tax instead of a one billion dollar tax increase, which by the way, keep in mind tax gasoline goes up every single year now is supposed to be about inflation? Right. That's why they raise her I rise of inflation. But every year now whether inflation goes up or not gas goes up, what are your tax the truckers one point two billion? What could John Gregg have possibly done in the first two years in terms of taking money from people that Eric Holcombe did not I asked this with the utmost seriousness, and by the way. You're going to say, well, governor Holcomb more govern government competency. Really have you driven a roads? Do you believe the roads are any better today than they were two years ago before the multibillion dollar tax increase, which takes place every single year? Let me know I would love to hear from you at Robin kindle Twitter. You let me know how the state could have been any worse off any worse off at John. Greg won the election in two thousand sixteen and by the way is the follow. I'd love to know is this what you thought you were going to get with governor Holcomb is this what you thought you were going to get because I followed the campaigns very closely. "And and and and I did it for one term in new. I was only going to do one Ramona got in Perth think about somebody that took that headache from nineteen eighty eight to two thousand fifteen I got done with four years. And I was like this is all awful. Yeah. She did it for almost thirty years. Yeah. And with some very dominant personality type mayors who said what they believed in believe what they said. And and in expected the accounts of the fall suit, and you know, there are times of Mary stood up and said, no, I don't believe this. And I want everybody to know why? And and sometimes she was right. And I we need people more and more people like Mary shoes, a outstanding individual and we'll miss her. Yeah. A lot of people. Also, don't realize that she was the CFO. Oh, and the director of the Marion county assessors office for over a decade schinder stood local government that was one of the other than her personality being a very giving individual and heartfelt. She knew local governments, you knew taxes and very complicated issues that most most of us don't even start to want to wonder about much less understand. Yeah. Public service for people who've never done it. It's the worst in the world. And that's why I so admire Gallic, Jim merit. And that's why I wanted to do the show. And by the way, did you realize today is our two year Facebook friends anniversary, I had no idea. But you know, you talk about Mary, Mary Moriarty Adams, she she's one of those types of folks that that you always remember because of of how she just kind of I like, the term take a stand and make your Mark. She did that. Yeah. We've been friends for two years on Facebook. I'm trying to avoid going around that true true story. This is all happened. Like I had been reading stuff about Jim Merritt, and we were actually friends on Facebook before that I didn't even realize it, and I was doing a local radio show in Hendricks county at the time. I was like I gotta get to know this guy because you were doing the opioid softened. The lifeline law was at the forefront at the time. And that's how we became friends, and we're very good friends now. But yeah, this today I saw today. This is our two year anniversary. Well, and for those nine of you that are listening the way I got a hold of him is that he started given the raspberries to the members of the Senate caucus chairman. I had two chapters rob candle out. I'm still given the raspberries elected Representative even though it's a new guy. That's exactly right. So I take care of my li- my lion cubs. And so, but we struck up a friendship and here we are two years later. My favorite jimmer story is the guy that's elected. Now, we won't we won't name him. But he he did as the guy before him did which is the bait and engaged in a very public altercation with me and Jim sends a message, Texas. She goes don't Donald Trump. Just ignore the guy. Just let it go, man. Yeah. You've got to understand that everybody's got a voice. And there's no reason to get into a fight. We've seen fights and politics. They don't turn out. Well, most end, rob. You would win. Yeah. Most people know view like me like this was what forward me about being an elected. I would get into serious of people at at the end of the day. It's like, whoa. Hey, we agree. Ninety percent of the stuff. So we should be able to fight on things. We don't agree about and be hardcore about it. And then come back together. Most people don't wanna come back together. Yeah. I realized that Robin. That that it's almost like a bathtub ring, they know they just don't wanna they don't wanna deal with it because they can't see beyond their nose. And you've got to there are so many things that we agree on. And so many problems to solve you. Can't you can't let your ego get involved and not ninety nine percent of time. I try to let things just roll off me like water off a duck's back. I will send Senator tax all the time. What the hell is this? What's going on? They don't even get a response when we just talk about it here on what I want to save my voice and my originality. It's fascinating to me though. How personal people take politics because again, whether you're democrat Republican for the most part, we agree probably on seventy eighty percent of the stop. And it's I look at it. Like, we went to a war over T disagreeing on top is fine. But most people don't see it that way. Yeah. And you know, I think there was somebody listened to you this week because I got a really bad Email from somebody. It just sounded like you. Yeah. Don't worry. My bosses got it as well. All right. So I've stretches out as long as they can. We gotta disagree on some stop good. All right. These the the the toll on truckers governor Holcomb has enacted a new toll on truckers on on sixty nine. I, of course, went crazy over this because I'm a all taxes, but you guys gave him permission to do this in the gas tax Bill. Tell me why is a good thing. First of all these highways are tools these highways are assets. And we have to get the most out of our assets as possible and the way you do that is you. You sell that asset to the user indus- you have tolls. I don't think we could take care of our highways that our toll right now without those toll monies, and and so this is an asset for the state of Indiana. And we want those we want those highways we want those assets to be in the very best condition possible. And for those of you that. Aren't aren't familiar with what we're talking about the governor came out in this is this is not something that has to go the legislature? This is by rule in the first let me let me ask you real quick. Okay. Because I went crazy on this portion of it. You stay. You guys are the check and balance on fiscal issues part of your job is to approve the budget, and you don't have a say on this anymore because you gave him unlimited tolling. Do you regret doing that in hindsight? Because I depend on you to be the check and balance. Well, I think first of all no, I don't regret it. I think that the governor should have the wherewithal to have these agreements, and and we also know that governor Holcomb, and and hopefully future governors will use this responsibility in a in a very very called away of responsible way. If you will. But. No, I I think this is something that will beating enormous asset Indiana for anybody that is listening, and I doubt they are on the north bodies listening to give people tax you all the time here so modest on the on the top of the state on the north part of the state. We know that people avoid the toll road in the way you avoid the toll road. Is you go down to state road twenty well state road twenty since the toll road. Was the deal was consumed. Under governor Daniels has been beaten and beaten again. And and so this toll money that the increases on on the on the specific trucks, those monies will go towards thirty one they'll go towards state road twenty they'll go towards a couple rail projects that are incredibly necessary for the north part of the state, and so we're we're using an asset and reusing again, and and it's a user fee, and you know, it's not tax. It's a user fee, and you don't pay it. If you don't go up on the toll road, however state road twenty has been chewed up. Because so many people have avoided the toll road, and we need to use some of those monies to make sure that's a quality by way, again, rob kennel. Indiana state Senator Jim Merritt program statehouse happenings, by the way, when we get done with. This 'cause we're disagreeing right now. Yeah, I'm totally gonna doors. You to be the next mayor. You know, what they? To get by that one thing that we haven't talked about is I'm anxious to hear and I don't know this. I don't know the fact on this. But I think a normal piece a large portion of the monies that will be collected on this certain truck that they will raise the fee on our Ohio, Michigan and Illinois. Trucks. And and so we're getting other states other populations actually pay for this for us. So that that's another added bonus are, let's let's talk a little bit about what's going on with this about what it's going to go to because one of my biggest issues on this is. That there's two hundred million dollars more than two hundred million in their own press release that has nothing to do with roads. It's talking about international flights to t-, Indianapolis. It's talking about broadband is talking about hiking trails all for roads. I mean, I'm a former local government official. I funded tons of roads. But I did it while cutting taxes. I'm a little concerned we hear about all these things that have nothing to do with roads that the tax is going to be used for my wrong. We'll know it, but it's under the whole umbrella of transportation, and we all night trail is not transportation. Well, it also it also is a part of there's a there's a certain amount of money that is for cleaning up highways as well. And mowing highways. This is this is kind of an all encompassing type of package in what I talked about twenty thirty one the rail projects up in the north west part of the state. That's all transportation. I sixty nine south of Indianapolis to martinsville that transportation now broadband. We have been internet. I I've already got internet, but it's slow. No, it's great. It's great and browse the internet fabulous. Well, you know, you talked about economic development, and this could be labeled an economic development tool as well. Because if you have faster if you have five G in with AT and T and Verizon bolt selecting Indianapolis to grow five G broad bam. It tells you that we're in a great place in in in the middle of the country. And and and the faster the broadband the more people want to move here. The more trails we have the more people want to move here. The more just the just the complete package here is I can point to everything that these monies will be spent on and it's it's to make Indiana better is make Indiana Mora leader. And and I and I think it I think that whole protein is a good idea, there are monies that have been spent. Non transportation projects before that have come from the transportation sector animal k with it the large majority of it is transportation oriented. Oh, let's talk about five G real quick. Because you posted about it. What is this? I'm excited about this. So you're not I love I love the fact that what I'm streaming a football game. It'll be it'll be faster. Yes else about it. Well, it's is something that that we have worked for the last four or five years on. And and if you see the top your phone where it says four G that's not the that's not the newest technology. I've got the L T E. So I'm still not about yes, and vivid. You'll have five G in that corner is some point and that will allow. You know, quicker and better service on the internet. It also will give us the ability to spread out in the state, and you go to places where internet is not. It's it's just not there in five G that that's really an economic development tool where more people can get on the internet. And and like, for instance, anybody that's been the Indianapolis five hundred they have struggled for for years. Very slow to get a quality product in the way of announcing the race out onto the internet. This will help that that is sort of amplifying up on on a nature of major sporting event. And there are countless other events and and just the growth of population. We do need a five G, and it's going to probably put one hundred this this this broadband announcement by the federal government FCC. They took actually a Bill that came through my committee, and they're going to take the language from the Bill and use it as the rule as the federal rule so Indiana's leading the way on this people say, well that sounds that big a deal. I if you're going to be a top. Tier states around the country and the globe. You've gotta have the fastest internet available as far as you can throughout the whole state. This is gonna pump about one hundred eighty million dollars into the economy of Evansville. They're probably going to be twenty five hundred more jobs in Fort, Wayne. This is all encompassing..
