"We recently received confirmation from the Panamanian government both ships have been allowed access Panama Canal so we can make our way east towards Florida they'll be much more details coming here shortly in terms of the exact time I want to leave the things that we need to do to prepare but we want to get this news use quickly as possible that is the president of Holland America and coming in the direction of Florida is about as far as I want that thing or any of these other cruise ships to come at this point found out that the oasis of the she sees the royal Caribbean ship that to recently docked in Miami had fourteen crewmembers who tested positive this Holland America ship that we're now in the crosshairs talk about like the slow moving train wreck right now there are nearly two hundred people that reported having flu like symptoms aboard this thing any just unreal the the lack of responsibility I feel by many in involved in this situation and I know that to one person in particular has been quite frustrated by this process and and there are potential to to come our way to port Everglades for white house points represented chip lamarca chip how you doing good morning how are you today yeah doing pretty well and I'll be better if we are successful in stopping this thing from coming here governor DeSantis just a bit ago said the White House could soon await in on this is that ultimately what would have to happen to keep this ship from coming to port Everglades well Brian thanks for having upper bit me in my district goes all the way through port Everglades to that channel is is that how the southern portion of my district that's been a lot of time in the eight years on the county commission dealing with court issues and you know our cruise industry which we value tremendously right now there's a unified command the port Everglades leadership as well as the county is also going to be under the Coast Guard CDC go these centers those EVP the customs and border protection Broward sheriff's office department health of Florida and and their own folks at that point everybody so there's a there's a command there but ultimately I think what we'll all be comforted knowing that you know there there can be an override of that certainly if not by the governor by the president but that that being said I mean I think we've got a look at I'm looking at marine traffic's website and it shows the two ships not just those on dom it's also the Rotterdam which have both been granted access in there north of the of the Panama Canal and and come in this way that the concern obviously they've already moved some passages from one ship to another totally we have but you you're talking to some numbers but there's also four hundred forty six gets on the on the ship six hundred Q. crew and then the other ship has almost eight hundred seven or ninety seven gas and second forty five cruise so there's a lot of those on there and I I we don't know what the conditions are on the ship we don't know what the medical processes been did I tell you folks my concern is that the wide port Everglades you know why not quite honestly Guantanamo why not another naval or aviation waterborne seaport somewhere along the way why not Miami where we're we're corner of all of the the mother company of how America is is based why not yeah we moved all the way up to the coast and quite honestly I've been having a conversation in my office you know what about New York where we've already basically said the Naval Hospital do you have to deal with this but so we with a lot of questions out there the one that hasn't been answered is will it come to port Everglades and will we have to deal with it I like your your get mo solution the bass I don't want this said the ships anywhere near any of our ports here and you know I eight it's a balance right because there there is a human component these are people they're probably people that are very sick and and in need of medical care at the same time there wasn't a person who got on the ship the wasn't aware of this virus when they got on there and the the operator itself they knew what was going on these people made a conscientious decision to go ahead and do this I do feel ultimately that that should weigh in some of the decision making here as to what our responsibility is you know truth truthfully if you bring up a good point about personal responsibility absolutely that's that's part of the equation but you know I think what I what I can do best to be of assistance to our community and our constituents you obviously don't want to see the strain on on the met the medical system at Broward health there was running medical providers is look at options and you know barring any of those other areas we did we just talked about there you know I'm kind of looking at a map and kind of thinking about some of these things there's a state park just east of port Everglades in the peninsula there you'll Johnson and my cell but state park which used to be Johnny Lloyd state park that is close all departure closes plenty of tarmac and but asphalt parking area there if you have got a bit had to actually come into our port I don't want to see them setting up a medical facility on port everybody's property or going to Broward health I'd rather see if if as a last resort I'm just trying to think of some options because that one not one of those people to know that I think at the address we know but here's a solution or suggestion you may want to look at so you know possibly possibly they stay out to sea and they deal with the most critical bringing them into to deal with them in a in a quarantine manner and then possibly we set up some type of you know basically like a mash unit that they they can bring in healthcare folks for I just don't want to see a strain on our existing medical facilities here in Broward county which you know they're handling things well efficiently memorial in Broward health and Holy Cross in Cleveland and all the others HCA they're they're doing what they need to do but ultimately we've got to make sure that we don't you know put twenty five hundred new possible the court you folks on their hands and and who knows we we heard seventy three guests and a hundred sixteen crew were sick on condom we don't know about the other ship and we don't know how again like I said who's been affected or touched in that in that space you know what what the process has been so I think it's ultimately we have to look at is the entire two ships if their plan to come here what do we do man oh man trip but when you look across our district how do you feel that that people generally are are dealing with this year are you happy with the the level of response in in the community yeah you know I I had the privilege of representing nine or parts of nine cities all mostly coastal the the ability for folks to get out in the open waters out the ocean and and buy fuel which was cleared up this past weekend by county ordinance or county order I I think a lot of folks to get out get away socially distance and enjoy the you know the beauty of where we live at the same time it is it it's very quiet we're working in and out of the district office here lighthouse point and it is very quiet in our neighborhoods I took a ride down A. one A. from Deerfield beach down to port Everglades on Saturday and there were a few people walking on the sidewalk to fort Lauderdale beach but no one on the stand and people seem to be staying away from each other and and doing the best we can I'm happy with that and the you know the I've been saying because because the contact with the the nightmares and and commissioners the does the cities I represent so just try to see what their issues are and see if we can kind of run some Brunson concerns up to the governor's office who with for them yes we can which and how bout the business community what's the assessment look like right now in terms of the the severe strain on especially local business well I'm working out at the shopping center off of the shopping center with a quite a few small businesses I mean if they've been outside of small restaurant they can do take out and essential services I mean we we we watch the comic have become decimated we had a a cod unemployment level of just around two percent three weeks ago and our god knows what it is right now but ultimately yeah I think one of the most important things we can do is is is put both back in the dice game program and and and get the employees that are are not able to work right now in that process and hopefully this thing turns a corner we get back to work because there's no reason to think that we can't get back to you know some some level of where we were a few weeks ago but it is it it it help help and and you and your life is the most important thing but you know for all of us who have watched this economy stop it you realize how important that there are opportunities for the government to be helpful but ultimately the economy runs it runs our communities and we're seeing business owners and and workers they just they can go to work and it's debilitating yeah no doubt will chip out thank you so much for checking in with us always good to talk with you anytime that's right yep that is a representative lamarca and you know I I'll I'll throw my two cents we we talk about the hurricane analogies when it comes to all that make a conscientious decision that is unwise so for example when we had mandatory evacuations and we got the threat from hurricane yes as a community we want to respond to people that are in an emergency circumstance but they cannot be the priority at that point right if you were warned and you made a decision that was against what the authorities recommended and you find yourself in harm's way there is personal accountability for and that's exactly how I feel with the ships you can't just hang these people out to dry it C. M. in perpetuity are people that are sick and dying but I also don't think they should ever become the priority in South Florida everyone of these people when they got on the ships every last one of them knew of the threat of the coronavirus when the ships took off out of port they knew about the threat of the virus these were conscientious decisions that were made by everybody involved and there has to be a way to deal with it that prioritizes those who are doing the right thing first here and that does not put anybody or any resources in a compromised position as we know that in so many resources already strained my two cents coming up or to check out the top stories in Natalie's working on today's Q. and a a day its supporters unemployment benefits explained this is the primary check newsradio six ten WYO DA good morning Miami Dade US one both northbound.

"No state wide shutdown still governor DeSantis said in the last hour despite calls to order people to stay home that a shelter in place command would do more harm than good and we simply can't lock down a society with no end in sight he did say that he would order anyone flying to Florida from New York New Jersey another coronavirus hot spots to go into a fourteen day quarantine he says the state continues to get better testing for covert nineteen part of that is because of our efforts here but a lot of that is because you know the hospitals are testing more there's more access to different types of labs distintos also says the state has more protective gear on the way to nursing homes and assisted living facilities about two hundred thousand masks twenty two thousand gowns and seventy eight thousand gloves but we don't have as many test kits as we might have people who need testing we don't have the ability to test you have no idea how many people walking around with this we've already gotten spring break individuals that are starting to test positive and the longer we wait the more people that are going to get infected Tampa mayor Jane castor told Hillsborough County emergency policy group that if the governor won't order people to stay home the county should but it did not agree if you work from home your dog might miss out on exercise social distancing means many people have stopped making trips to the dog park Tampa Bay area veterinarian Dr Chad dot says you still need to make time for exercise a lot of individuals like to do little of gradients training sessions with their pet were maybe they spent some time walking around the house here more from Dr dot in are beyond the news podcast.

"Today they expect this because the person who I traveled on the ship became the first person in California to die from covered nineteen the rest of the people dead in the US from the virus happened in Washington state governor DeSantis confirm that an elderly panhandle bank contract drawn a virus during a recent trip to Asia he is in quarantine the governor does not want people in Florida wasting their money buying masks that they think wrongly he will protect them from the virus in fact if you put the mask on you're more likely to be fiddling around your face and actually you may even be more likely to transmit the virus if you're in contact with that so those really need to be used for health care professionals the governor says local health officers continue working with the state and the CDC to identify any possible outbreak of covert nineteen in Florida he also says the state waits for more test kits to come that will help IDE cases faster we expect president trump to sign a major coronavirus emergency spending bill today eight billion dollar bill will help to pay for a vaccine medical supplies that are so needed and even help those small business is taking a hard hit right now so at a fox news town hall last night president trump reassured the country he's not worried about any sort of long term economic impacts certainly might have an impact at the same time I have to say people are now staying in the United States spending their money in the US and I like that here are the numbers this morning corona virus deaths are at twelve with more than two hundred cases across the country right now including the first three cases in Maryland governor Larry Hogan explaining that these are patients who contract the virus while they were travelling overseas they are in good condition Asia has the reporting there Joe Biden has pulled ahead of Bernie Sanders in the democratic presidential primary race a new Reuters Ipsos poll shows the former vice president with forty five percent support thirteen points better than the Vermont senator one cabbie ought be pollsters did this survey before Massachusetts senator Elizabeth Warren dropped out of the race yesterday early voting begins tomorrow for the primary in Pinellas Pasco manatee and Sarasota counties Hillsborough and Polk counties open early voting this past Monday NASA's new Mars rover waited Kennedy Space Center first launch this summer it doesn't wait for name anymore though NASA now because they're over perseverance Alexander Mather a seventh grader from Blacksburg Virginia won the name the rover essay contest NASA plans to launch perseverance.

"A home and by passing at the nine fourteen the fashion we feel we can improve the legal climate and cut insurance rates and make that homeownership more affordable again Amanda last year during the state session we had a sign in the benefits reform the reform that would not allow third parties to have the benefits signed over from homeowners that the many cases were being used to turn around and sue insurance companies which in turn would drive up costs governor DeSantis made noted this in his state of the state speech indicated that there been tens of thousands of families that were seen lower insurance rates this year because of it do you think that was a positive step in terms of reforming the legal environment and how what would this work along the same lines as a something like well what we saw last year absolutely a be reformed with very positive that and and it just the situation is that more needs to be done we have seen the lawsuit hi to property claims to grow in recent years for example about two years ago if within the twenty five thousand range and now we're seeing about fifty thousand lawsuits filed every year tied to property claims even considering that a be have been reformed and and there have been improvements totally climate were still being trial attorneys go after these property insurance dispute and the reason they're doing that is because of this concept called the mold wire that attorneys in Florida are able to receive sometimes up to thirty times more than the claim they're arguing in court and so obviously that's an incentive for them to go after these opportunities and for them to take homeowner's policy holders the court we one example we've seen just in the last two years was a claim a dispute over forty thousand dollars ended with the attorney bringing home one point two million dollars in attorney fee now and and and unfortunately back right is being paid for by the policy holders in the state of Florida and insurance companies can't keep up with these exorbitant attorney fees costs and I'm and now were fearful that homeowners insurance companies are going to be downgraded.
