"Good day to celebrate boat Thompson. Our audience is growing every day, and we really do appreciate her audience. And thanks to everyone involved in our show, and one of the reasons I think we're becoming quite successful, and we're providing unique product is Covering this Copus. Ah challenge from a national level in state level and local level and given a perspective that no one else hears anywhere else, and we're kind of doing a review right now. Governor Cooper's press conference yesterday We're in the middle of that review, and I wouldn't let you continue because I kept interrupting. Governor Cooper That's right. You're a nonviolent interrupter. I'm going through the training right now. So when we last left Governor Cooper talking about the covert crisis. Here's what he was saying where the face covering To show this is something that you ought to be doing. But ointment stop! Stop! Where the face covering to show that we all have He doing something? Because he should have rephrase that, where the face covering because it might save other people's lives. Talk about it. And I think if we continue to push this and continue to get people to understand that this's the best way To get our economy going full speed again. On making sure that people understand that and stop spreading false science that we know is not true. These things might stop. Stop. Oh, my gosh, Stop spreading false science that we know it's not true. You mean the false science where you close down bars, But you keep breweries and wineries open as long as they have a food truck nearby. Is that the false science that you're criticizing? It's.

"And runs through November thirtieth but over the weekend governor Cooper released a statement declaring may third through the ninth that's this week of course hurricane preparedness week in North Carolina he says North Carolina knows all too well the damage and disruption that hurricanes can bring but being prepared can help people fare better and recover quicker especially with covert nineteen affecting everybody's daily lives now is the time to make sure you and your family are ready for this hurricane season and he says does keep in mind as it relates to the corona virus your evacuation plan a plan to stay in a hotel or with friends or family who live farther inland have better I I options than relying on a large emergency shelter in this age of social distancing so I want to bring on race staging from the weather channel and talk a little bit about hurricane preparedness and also about some cooler weather we're going to get towards the end of the week but it is something to think about ray now that the hurricane season is upon us you know covert nineteen puts a different outlook on just about everything well it certainly does Boeing you know that's certainly gonna be for if there are graduation orders and our shelters and how they're gonna handle all shelters that will kind of distancing is going to be how provided or required so we don't want is a couple of things one we don't want a prediction of an above average hurricane season well forget about that because that one's already put chapter three Hey above average hurricane season not only the weather channel the weather company but also the national hurricane center and also Colorado State University all right so the first thing the second thing you don't want is that early storm especially with Colbert nineteen currently yeah basically continuing for a se foreseeable future so the more time you can get before we get into you know a game store or where we would have to have a major storm well you know would be better like we don't have that yet nothing in the complaint we did have a disturbance at the Pacific last week but in a way that things are quiet your first official beginning with storms can happen in any part of the Pico combo around December tenth or eleven so getting into the peak of the hurricane season that's certainly a ways away but you know we're wrapping up now wrapping up toward what looks to be an above average in terms of being storms he's speaking of now yesterday we were pushing ninety degrees feeling like summer I mean I was out there in the shirt and shorts and people or even contemplating getting in the water you know in the lakes and stuff but now I'm looking at this forecast and I'm thinking now in the some of the restrictions are going to ease next week maybe start thinking about activities but not so fast there is I mean depending on on what.

"Hispanic background show up of African American background show up so this is a movement is clearly not discriminatory in any sense my ample live for student at Davidson she organized the big honk your horn protest uptown today Bret Jensen now joins me live Brent I I guess the question is with governor Cooper promising to open things up a little bit next week was this protest a little late was ineffective you think well I you know that that's a good question but you know what they want is yes the understand that it's going to be opening up slowly but they wanted to be just like what South Carolina is right now that's in a perfect world that's what they would have exactly what South Carolina is in they also said look if things go slow if governor Cooper does not open the state up a little bit in terms of retail on may ninth and if things go slow they don't open up the the restaurants by Memorial Day weekend as as a possibility then there are going to be more protests and she thinks that you might think that they would keep keep would continue to grow and get even bigger because this was a much bigger than she had anticipated and bigger than you thought to what struck you the most about it you know I you know I I I sort of got in the middle of it like I I went to where they were meeting and I said okay well just gonna follow them around and see what they're doing and see if anyone's watching or twenty people showed up and I you know I got to trade in trial on in the next thing I know there's scores of people out there protesting holding signs and I got out of the car and it was just non stop car after car after car and it was just they were all born the horns in you know in the next thing you know people are just joining in people who aren't even part of it decided to join in with the figure out what was going on and they started blowing their horns interesting well you mentioned South Carolina a moment ago late today the governor there announced that restaurants that have outdoor dining can start letting people eat outside on Monday still not letting the meat inside yet but they're opening up more and more there and a week from today here in North Carolina if governor Cooper allows at the malls are going to open south parking Concord mills yeah you know and the malls in South Carolina actually opened today so again you know that's again this is what you know Meyer and the reopen make movement want you know they want the even said we want the commissioners of Mecklenburg County to actually ask in keep you know governor Cooper no look look please keep it open please get it open because this is what they want and they think this is what Michael Moore county needs I guess we don't know yet if the malls here will have crowd restrictions obviously social distancing but we don't know if how how it's going to work exactly yet do it now we we really don't work as a matter of fact I mean Daddy that hasn't even been a trusted by the governor Mandy Cohen there was a Meredith college poll out today that claims it's seventy percent or more of the state supports the move to keeping shut down at least another week I think there is a lot of maybe if you just look at the number of people who are wearing masks I think their number of people are concerned and I was talking to Brett winnable our afternoon guy who's all for re opening but then he said you know I don't know if I go to the mall right now no but you know it's funny you say that it will say that we need to shut down and then you go to target and it was packed somebody sent me a text today said I'm at target right now and the lines are like extremely deep because it's packed right now and he said the city would want to lose earlier today they decided not to go to Lowes because there were so many people there so you know again it's you know people say all they were in favor of it but yet they're going out to Harris teeter the gondolas are going to target the going to Walmart yeah you know you're at freedom park right now I I just decided to throw a little monkey wrench into the only man who ran into the mixer market just say all right let's see let's go to free to park your call mark from three point to see what's going on here well you have Maggie your dog with the axe little good good what's happening there now did because this week now you can drive to the parks are you seeing more activity there yeah there is a lot of activity here's a matter of fact I was a little surprised that well you know it's a Friday night people with their families and then I realized oh wait they can't go out and eat so they can go to the movies on that's right so you know there was a lot of activity here and you know and you know and again they're parked right where you expect them to be parked right near the tennis courts and all that they're free to park where as of three days ago they could park there so yeah it is it's it's pretty active right here on out you know ugh a beautiful Friday night and I don't know if you watched much of Mandy Cohen today the state the state medical director who's had most of the news conferences with the governor she announced that the number of positive tests they did five thousand test yesterday and very few of the more positive so it is another indicator that they're moving slowly toward beginning to open things up yeah you know they just I I did hear her say that they did fifty three hundred test yesterday the day before that to the over six thousand tests and she said you know look seven percent yeah you know has been roughly around nine percent eight a half percent of those tested positive but she said look we're down we're getting down to seven percent and she was you could tell I mean you could I mean I listened to her and I watched and you could actually hear her voice get a little bit popped up I because of fear this is what they want to hear yep all right Brad well enjoy walking magnets park Hey mark you can control it when you're done I should but Bridgend to live in freedom park with his trusty companion Maggie there are coming up on the six thirteen here on Charlotte at six and now the music means we go to the secret underground bunker where we have our social distancing from the rest of the world so there's this is all right so yeah I know where you are I'm not going to you know that's what we really should have a station promotion with a scavenger hunt and give out clues and give money to the person the first person that finds boomers like where's Waldo where's boomer I think that would be great after all we're like a big scavenger hunt right and I have a clue in mind I'm tempted to give it but I won't know all man I love it I love it how did you serve yeah how's it looking out there we have just one slow down on the interstate so that it has it has not been reported as a job as an action that but still seems a sold out for eighty five in a loop I headed westbound just past exit forty seven lawyers wrote I don't think you need an alternate for there's just one area where they begin to slow just a bit so just watch what you may need to tap the brakes as you make your way south of exit forty seven lawyers road collision Shamrock drive near the plaza to the east on Albemarle road at lawyers road south Charlotte marsh road at south try on Providence "North Carolina versus Georgia cells they were talking sports so we're talking coronavirus governor Cooper has North Carolina as we've said on lockdown you're not going to get a hair cut or eat in a restaurant here for at least another six weeks but it's a different story in Georgia the governor there but barber shops open today restaurants can open next week with some restrictions well the action in Georgia does not sit well with north Carolina's governor Roy Cooper for particularly concerned about the state of Georgia that has begun lifting most all of its restrictions and we really won't know the effect of that until a little more than two or three weeks after word I have expressed my concern and Graham schedule to talk to governor camp a little later today about those concerns we we would hope that they would take a second look at this because we are concerned about these restrictions being lifted and potentially hurting North Carolina well Georgia governor Brian can probably not too worried about what Roy Cooper thanks camp is a Republican Cooper is a Democrat no word on how that call went but Cooper once Georgia to to back off some of what they have in mind but Brian camp wants businesses to open again he says stores and barbershops can open at their own pace some businesses are saying that they're not ready to Rio and I respect that I certainly respect customers it may not want to get out and go to those businesses yeah well barber shops did indeed open today a lot of video from down there showing a barber's wearing masks and practicing customers sitting at a distance and before they get in the chair reporter Evan brown is covering so Evan we we can't get a hair cut here North Carolina but I guess I could drive to Georgia and get

"Nine thirty five on WBT the governor will be in town later today to talk about Kerala governor Cooper that's right get that governor Cooper will be in town governor McCrory already in town yeah the former governors in town and the interest was governor Cooper has to say he's he like trump are both sending mixed messages of course the media here in Charlotte says the governor Cooper is acting boldly on the virus wall the liberal media is criticizing president trump and yet they're frankly both sending mixed messages trying to walk a fine line between continuing to make sure it Kanemi remains alive while also protecting health and safety of individuals that's why governor Cooper's saying you know you should cancel all large events over a thousand people except for the ACC basketball tournament he's also saying well anyone over sixty five probably should be gone and avoiding large events except for Roy Williams and coach K. Jim Boeheim Jim Boeheim yeah I mean there's a contradiction there but the Charlotte observer and the editorial staff of two there that are left say governor Cooper's acting boldly acting boldly by saying the following which I do not disagree with because he's saying the same thing is president trump is but this is no more bolder less bold than vice president pants or president trump he is saying he is not calling for schools to close are urging the Atlantic coast conference the call off its men's basketball tournament in Greensboro but Dr Mandy Cohen the secretary of department of health and Human Services is discouraging large gatherings now isn't there a contradiction right there not the largest gathering in North Carolina is the ACC basketball tournament especially of older people who are more vulnerable I've been to the ACC basketball tournament there are a lot of old alumni going to that tournament today in Greensboro they live and breathe that they're the only ones who can afford the tickets so yesterday in his press conference when the governor Cooper was asked if he would attend the ACC tournament he said I would plan to to go to sporting events and to mass gatherings myself not being in the high risk category determined you know I I I think people have to make their own decisions about that stop it did he answer the question he didn't answer the question and the media left him off the hook are they gonna let him off the hook today when he visits greens right now yes or no are you going to the ACC tournament instead what did he say again he was asked the question are you going to the ACC tournament would plan to to go to sporting events and mass gatherings fast elf not being and mass yeah glory stop he's sixty two years old yes some people say over six three sixty is it at risk category and that this was part of him declaring a state of emergency and Leslie that people have to make their own decisions about that and remember that these recommendations may be evolving see more more about what's happening but hello you we're making no recommendations about canceling anything we're just talking to the public at large the steps that we want to take a bit of mass gathering that you may have of having hand sanitizer and this is what the Charlotte observer editorial board calls bold leadership what did he just say I'm gonna have to play it again open play it again the bold leadership which by the way he's saying the same thing the president saying they're walking a fine line I'm not being critical I just called the Parker C. out aboard over media if a Democrat says nothing it's bold leadership if the president says not being it's reckless leadership okay let's play it one more time I would plan to to go to sporting events and to mass gatherings cost health not being asked to high risk category you know I I I think people have to make their own decisions about that mmhm and remember that these recommendations may be evolving as we see more more about what's happening but hello you we're making no recommendations about canceling anything talking to the public at large justice is that we want to take a bit of mass gathering that you may have of having hand sanitizer and this talk making sure that that he he tried to separate people as much as you possibly can but no we're not we're not making recommendations of canceling mass gatherings Matt Matt has a rather is he needs to come up with another Trey besides a mass gathering it kind of sounds like you know the way also that math get mass gatherings that you may have mass gatherings that you may have not I may have and he's going to continue to go to sporting events or mass gatherings but recommend that other people don't go to mass gatherings that are in the at risk category of people over sixty even though he's sixty two right what Roy Williams sixty nine and Charlotte seventy three headline governor Cooper acts boldly he just said they're not doing anything they're recommending to hand sanitizers I wish I would've got this treatment my four years from the Charlotte observer who said who said of their Toral staff the shrubs over what's his name Taylor batten tailor Benetton cash and what's Roddick is the editorial cartoon next to the editorial which governor Cooper acts boldly on on the virus is say editorial cartoon I am bass team president trump trump keeps touching my face it's Uncle Sam trump is saying the exact same thing as Cooper I swear Cooper it reminds me the song comfortably numb his lips move but you can't hear a word that he says we've heard much former mayor but our mayor is indoor scene a second person for president she endorsed a Bloomberg two weeks ago and today she's endorsing now Joe Biden.

Anti-abortion Democrats don't have a candidate to support

"Democrats are a big target of the pro life voter drive because it's estimated there are twenty million Democrats who identify as pro life Washington post has reported these pro life de Kratz don't feel particularly welcome in their party anymore candidates such as Bernie Sanders say if you're a Democrat you need to favor abortion on demand I think being pro choice is an absolutely essential part of being a Democrat so that's kind of what my views I think by this time in history I think when we talk about what a Democrat is I think being pro choice is essentially a central part of that comments like that are being used by pro lifers to try to win over Democrats on the abortion issue we're talking to them about taxpayer funding of abortion late term abortion and the born alive issue the born alive issue refers to one of the bills defeated by Senate Democrats this week it would have required medical attention for a baby that survives an abortion which does happen I'm in twenty seventeen alone four states reported twenty five children born alive we don't have great abortion reporting in this country but of the four seats that do report twenty five children in one year that's legislation that seventy percent of Democrats support so there is consensus pro lifers also plan to use the born alive issue against North Carolina governor Roy Cooper Tammy fitzgerald is what the North Carolina values coalition at the state level you know in North Carolina we have a governor who approves of infanticide she's referring to governor Cooper's veto of a bill that would have required medical attention for infants surviving abortions in North

"In the weekend to remember and in the middle of that on Sunday. Morning there you were back in the chair, amongst the panelist on meet the press with Chuck Todd. Yeah. We had a very interesting number panelists. We had a person from PBS Washington Post. And of course, stores Goodman, who was famous historians written some great books, and I've written, and, you know, it's a great honor to be on meet the press. They've been around for fifty years a lot. You know, you see all the pictures on the wall, and the dressing room on how many people in this store, people that have attended that show. So it's quite an honor. I think it's I'm going to I've been on enough, where when I die, hopefully many years from now, they might even say, hey, Pat mccrory, who was our, our, our diversity Republican was on meet the press. We're sorry for his passing there with Yumi Alcindor, who works for PBS, then like you mentioned Doris Kerns Goodwin also David Miranda's, who works for the Washington Post also an author, we I was speculating earlier about what. Kind of stories we might get today. Now you've been there before when the featured guest was in studio. You're just a few feet away from morosi on that morning when she was there, and, and the vice president Chaney. Yeah. Absolutely. Now yesterday, I know that he talked to Sarah Huckabee Sanders from Tokyo for about ten minutes. So I guess yesterday, they probably wasn't as exciting there on the set as it normally might be at none of the guests were in studio this session. So I watched him long distance along with the studio and most people don't realize that glass table that the four of us sit on has TV's monitors through the glass where you can watch the program, and then you hear it through your earpiece they each of the guests have an earpiece that he put in. So you watch the, the TV set of who Chuck Todd is interviewing and some of those pre taped at four o'clock in the morning, especially one with Sarah Sanders from Japan. So during those I was taking. In notes, and trying to develop, what am I gonna say when our segment would come up, and we had two segments, and we'll be reviewing those on the next section. I'll talk about the politics inside the politics of meet the press. Meanwhile, back North Carolina Senate budget proposal set for release very soon. We'll have higher raises for state employees than its house counterpart this, according to A AL, or governor Cooper's budget, less for teachers, though, most state employees is going to get a two point five percent, pay bump, and each of the next two fiscal years under this plan. Well, the big dispute right now is while the teachers have been getting fairly large pay raises the state employees going, what about us? And there's only so much money in the pot. The big issue will will be what will the governor do regarding a veto because there is no supermajority anymore. So, well, he vetoed during a political year. "America, large majority believe there should be restrictions on things like abortion that life is important and. What we see coming out of New York, for instance, out of their new legislation out of New York is taking all the restrictions often being able to fix on life of a baby up. So the moment it's born. I don't think that resonates with the majority of Americans certainly not North Carolina in so it'd be interesting to see what the governor stand on that issue. Tell me some other areas where you strongly opposed the governor obviously Markham conservative, so I mean, the differences are going to be on the issues that are typically conservative and issues are typically liberal. So I think that that's where you're going to see the biggest difference with another big social issue likely to come up in the governor's race gay rights best because next year twenty twenty cities in North Carolina. Such a Charlotte will be allowed to pass local gay rights ordinances that is and less the legislature steps in to stop. It would you favor allowing the cities to pass those ordinances or no. No, I wouldn't favor a free for all on really any city ordinances like that. I think that that is problematic is legally problematic because all of a sudden, you are creating hundreds of different ordinances across the state that people have to figure out how they operate within as they moved from city to city and town to town and county to county, and so you have to be careful about the precedent for any special interest group to gain any kind of, you know, extra special rights or privileges in any way because not opens the floodgates for others to are you prepared for probably a lot of outside groups, including LGBT to come after you and advertising, maybe, but I guess the question is what are they coming after a four. I've never said anything that's anti ubt. I've never said anything against that group at all like, you know, if anybody can find anything that Dan forest or even Pat mccrory said that was anti LGBT, then maybe they have a leg to stand on. But they're not gonna find you tweeted a while back that you wanted to stop the I seventy seven. A toll project now governor Cooper said he would stop it too. And he ran head on into a contract that he can't change. What do you think you can do about it? Well, I think all contracts can be changed. And then contracts can be the renegotiated all the time. I think it's a matter of kind of the will out there to do it. I think the general assembly may have some role in this down the road. I think it needs to be written in a way that benefits the state of North Carolina. But really the people of Charlotte Mecklenburg in the surrounding towns that are impacted by it, so yeah, I think anything could be renegotiated I think you have to bring everybody around the table and figure out how to do that. I seventy seven a hot topic in this race ahead for governor. That's Lieutenant governor Dan forest chatting with me earlier as he announces it's full steam ahead for him as he runs for governor next year. We'll see if any other Republicans jump in the race. Or if it's going to be forest versus democrat governor, ROY Cooper. All right. Couple of things coming up in the next half hour at six thirty five. We'll have a. "Three WBZ TV. I'm your host Brett Jetson taking up till ten o'clock with the governor today. Bo Thompson will be back tomorrow. All right governor. Let's get a little bit more politics here. Governor ROY Cooper yesterday. Dress the allegation frauds and district nine race. Also, the the guy at the center of it all Leslie McRae, Dallas. He also released a statement saying that you know, is through a lawyer that everything will be failed to be above board and that nothing bad will happen. But let's first start off with the Senate yesterday. Overriding ROY Cooper's veto on the voter ID laws. Still have to have the the representatives the rest of the representatives vote for it. But right now, the Senate overwhelmingly voted to veto to override ROY Cooper's veto yesterday on the voter ID. The Texas two step is being played in Raleigh North Carolina right now between the governor and the legislature. And that's all it is is a game cost the taxpayers a lot of money. There was no reason governor Cooper should have a vetoed. The voter ID because the voter ID was just recently approved by fifty five fifty six percent of the voters in North Carolina. They wrote the Bill the bills reasonable. It's legal at follows other bills that have been approved by the courts in the past. But governor Cooper had to appease people like Reverend William barber who are doing everything they can to defeat voter ID in photo ID in states across the nation. And that's all this is has governor Cooper appeasing, the left wing the left wing of the Democratic Party while all other Democrats just remained silent. They don't know what to do about voter ID because most people are in favor of voter ID, Democrats and Republicans as I've said in the past governor Cooper when he's in Terni Jenner one of the things he did which I agreed with was require idea to get Sudafed. Now, that's not discriminatory. It doesn't put the elderly or minorities or young people and college students at a disadvantage to get Sudafed. If you have to have an ID, but for whatever reason asking for a voter ID or a photo ID puts the minorities college students in the elderly at a disadvantage, and that's all ROY Cooper is doing and the left wing of the Democratic Party, which she is now a part of he's a peasy ma'am by going look at me, I'm fighting for you. He loves the term fighting, by the way, they never politicians never fight. They make statements. They argue if you ever hear a politician say, I'm fighting for you. Look at the other labor. It's a term that polls. Well, oh. And if they say, I'm rolling up my sleeves for you. That's another term means. I'm ready to fight for you. They're fully new. I'm rolling up my sleeves, and I'm gonna fight for you. And so there's a political Texas two step being done right here in North Carolina. Vetoed a Bill that he knows is going to be overridden a house now has to come all the way back to Raleigh to vote. And now he's holding on other bills. So they can't override other vetos at the same time, and he's trying to interfere with the legislators Christmas vacation as though that will be a threat, and it may be because some legislators may have family plans, and they won't wanna come back during the Christmas holidays, thus there won't be enough votes to override the governor's veto. So he's playing with the Christmas holidays holidays to sway and influence political policy in North Carolina, even political policy in which the voters voted for it, including the people of Charlotte voted for a voter ID, and they voted for ROY Cooper, by the way. And so it's there's a contradiction at this point in time Cooper yesterday. Also during a press coverage says he supports a strong elections board with investigators that get to the root of the corruption. And that the governor said he is disturbed Nasr. Republican Harris is a q. Used of election fraud in the congressional race. And the media asked absolutely no follow up questions in a press conference where the governor gave a long speech and said, nothing and the media went. Yes, sir. Thank you, sir. That's. Crispus, sir. And they didn't do the same thing. And let them make such general comments. This is how the left wing media treats the left wing, then let them make their satellites. You have some of the sound bites that he made right there. He says nothing God. I wish I would have done this. I wish I could have got away with it. I'm for the people I'm against corruption. I'm disturbed. Saying nothing. Saying nothing, and then he comes to Charlotte and makes a very good job announcing anything congratulations to him in the mayor and everyone else, but then the media asked him nothing about what's he been doing about voter fraud and North Carolina. He was attorney general for fourteen years nothing. He's been governor for two years, and we knew a voter potential voter fraud. These exact same counties in two thousand fourteen. In our race. He did nothing. And now all of a sudden he calls a press conference. It says what? Says that he is disturbed disturbed as Republican Marquez is accused of election fraud in the congressional race. And that he supports a strong elections board with investigators that get to the root of corruption. He's been in charge of investigators for fourteen years. Where was the media asking follow up questions? The media used to yell at me, interrupt me. That seems to be the way things generally work. Where was the Jim Acosta of the right wing media? There is one. Why? Way too. Now, they're talking about a Bill which no one has seen. No one has asked for the governor calls a press conference that I'm going to veto. I I'm against part four. And no one knows what part for is. And he's doing for transparency.

"The sun is shining right now. But sunrise is not what we're focused on on this Tuesday September eleventh hurricane Florence now. A category four hurricane. The latest projections. Still have it coming onshore late Thursday next somewhere between Hatteras and Wilmington rights will beach. We've been talking to the right so beach live throughout the morning on WBZ's morning news. And now here we are on the Pat mccrory show and what a day we will. Of course, talk about the seventeenth anniversary of nine eleven. But this storm that is coming our way, you have you remember many times where you saw us in the path and not quite directly in the path like this time. Yeah. Feel like how should have by emergency operations green shirt on? I I kind of I want to be with my old team right now. In the good news is Mike spray. Berry who was a member of my team and emergency operation center in Raleigh is going to be leading the effort for North Carolina. And they've got some big decisions to make right now. The South Carolina governor has called for the immediate evacuation of all coastal areas of South Carolina. There has not been a call for an evacuation of North Carolina. The laws are a little bit different county. By county. But the governor can can go ahead and request that it'll be interesting today. Governor Cooper a day later that governor McMaster asks for back uet tion of at least Wilmington, but maybe they're waiting for more information. It's a tough decision because you're uprooting a lot of people's lives. You're dealing with hospitals. You're dealing with highways. But the later you wait to do that. The more difficulty. You have in evacuating literally hundreds of thousands of people on many on roads at aren't capable of handling that. And plus you've got to figure out the logistics. So governor Cooper and and his team have got to make some decisions today regarding evacuations of or recommending evacuations of at least Hanover can New Hanover county and other counties in that area. So that's gonna be very interesting to follow today. Mcmasters did that yesterday, and that's a huge decision for Myrtle Beach. But the road structure getting of Myrtle Beach is very bad. They don't have sufficient highway systems, and they're already reversing lanes early this morning or later on this noon noon today, so I know government master, and I know they're all the governors tend to communicate with each other during this time deal, McMaster Cooper and the new governor Virginia. Sure. I do not know him, but they're all communicating with each other right now, we were just looking at pictures of Charleston, and I should say highway five one in Myrtle Beach, beginning at noon today, there will be four lane reversals in Orange County and Marion county so the exodus has begun and will be happening throughout the day. So take me through how this all if you when you were governor. And a storm approaches storms fires you name it. I had it. But you have to decide I mean is it up to you? How often you conduct these news conferences? And then as you say, I think it's very interesting when you talk about what what permissions have to be received in in South Carolina versus North Carolina's. Not exactly the same for every state now, they're different laws in every state, but people are looking for the governor for leadership, and if you just wait for the counties to make decisions, you're probably not doing your job. You've got to you've got to go ahead and make the. Call. It's a call. That's often a lose lose or win win. You just don't know. It's a part of its leadership gas and governor Cooper going to have to do that sometime today. Governor McMaster actually did it yesterday. And what's Roddick is there going, well, should I wait for more information because this storm could turn at a moment's notice? You know, compare Hugo with Matthews Hugo wet straight up from Charleston up towards Charlotte over Columbia Matthews. Stalled literally on the eastern coast and went up to Raleigh. And then all that water went downstream this could do play out and several different scenarios. And maybe a governor Cooper's waiting for more information on that. But everything looks like at least Warrington's gonna get hit hard. And of course, they're still in tourism season. And it's a huge city. And it's a city where it's tough to evacuate at this point in time. But it is worth noting that it is post Labor Day. So you you do. You have people down there than you would if you're even working wilmington's also a town of commerce and business in its support. And so this is just a a tourist Mitch. It's it's more than rightful, beach and Carolina beach. It's Wilmington that is an excellent point. And that of all the North Carolina beaches, you know, rightful beach is the one that's almost like a city on the beach a lot of these other drawbridge to get into rightful beach. So that drawbridge you could be hung up on that drawbridge for a long time. So there are issues there. Plus, you have figure eight island, which is a private island with a drawbridge on that island too. So. It'll be interesting. If those islands would be evacuated nags head is. I think some of the outer Bank is already being evacuated because they're dependent upon ferries. You cannot mess around. You gotta get off. Now, if you're dependent upon fairies and some of those bridges, well, this is going to be an interesting show. Because today is there are two stories colliding here, there's one, of course, this storm that is headed our way, and we can draw upon your experiences being governor. And remembering what you went through as leader of the state on several occasions during storms, but also seventeen years ago today, of course, nine eleven two thousand one and I played a clip last hour, and I'll play it coming back from the next break, but had some some audio from when you were mayor in Charlotte and remembering what happened that day. And when we come back, I wanna young man, and I'll I'll tell the story about actually several months before nine eleven I was visiting the emergency operation center in the World Trade Center with. Mayor Giuliani, and you told us earlier, and I want to revisit this. You talked about two phone calls that you remember very vividly about nine eleven two thousand one that you received on that day, and what the those events entailed nine twelve on WBZ hits. The Pat mccrory show and headlines now, John Stokes. Amtrak is cancelled train service in North Carolina. Starting in the middle of the week. He'd anticipation of hurricane Florence's, arrival and impact rain's going through South Carolina from Florida also affected airlines including American southwest. "Griswold, in my head hanging Christmas lights So the door got stuck while I was inside. These little incase doors that slide. It stuck it's been sticking for four years my wife's been telling me to fix, it because she's been locked in before. Too and had to crawl out the window and so she was very pleased to see that had happened to me when I told her this morning I said you won't believe what happened last night and I told her I said you deserve it Now you telling us more about this during. The break and then that. Led us, to a conversation about this ever, happened at the. Governor's mansion there's actually protocol for this there's protocol not forgetting locked in. The bathroom but for escape but first scaping in case, protesters jump the walls or catches on fire, and we, had a lot of protesters from day. One some real nuts, like you, see in Portland And he actually There is there is a there, is a sport three different stairways coming down from the second, and third floors a fire escape a back stairway and the main big stairways that you see on TV. All the time and a fourth alternative that one of the troopers put together for me was if it, got real bad he actually, put a rope a long rope which you could throw, over the balcony which went down like forty feet forty feet chimney down the road down to the grounds of the back of the governor's. Mansion in Raleigh I never used it Now they have. Fire drills, and things you know you gotta be ready. If the moment arises do you know this just because you were told about it or because you? Were shown about. It I was shown they actually showed me the rope that they throw. Over and you're kidding I said I think I'll take the stairs As long as I have the. Option as long as I have the option so I told you a secret way that governor Cooper, might be sneaking out of the governor's mansion but he doesn't have protesters because he and Kennedy coordinated to. Protest against, me and Republicans don't do that Do other stupid things we usually. Call this the inside story or the real story this actually is the outside stores the outside but but let me tell you let me tell you some real news of some. Inside story there is you're reading the headlines day in in all the newspapers and people are totally. Confused the governor's veto was overridden onto constitutional amendments this, weekend again to constitutional amendments one is where, the legislature wants to take over the authority of the governor. To slick judges vacancies and the other, one is to take away the power of the governor to make appointments to. Committees it actually poured up to governor secretaries and it's a it's a clear power move by the Republicans try and take power away from. The democratic governor ROY Cooper the Republicans did this to me too and I took him to court, and the supreme court ruled in my favor six to one and what's ick is attorney General Roy Cooper The time, defended the legislatures right to do this they even ask the attorneys have ROY Cooper the. Time against me as governor said well if the legislature wanted. To take away the power to point your, own chief of staff could they, do that and the attorney general's lawyer said yes a no. Words I wouldn't have the power to even slight my own chief of staff can you imagine. That happening to President Trump at this point in time well now the shoe's on the other foot and the legislatures try and take away the power of the governor Bush the. Governor the governor now ROY Cooper is fighting any should and me Jim Morton were actually going to. Help governor ROY Cooper fight this because it's the wrong, thing to do not just for governor ROY, Cooper but all future governors in fact why would you want. To be governor if all the power, lays the legislature this is a bad power move that the legislature initiated and. It's the override a supreme court state supreme court case called Burger versus mccrory burger, versus mccrory and governor. Mccrory won, that case six to one and now they're going to put a constitutional amendment, on the ballot which basically transfers all appointed powers the, state legislature and the wording on the ballot is basically extremely deceptive And now the governor is going to, take that to court today about how deceptive the wording is and guess what he's right. I mean who else could make a victim out of a governor who does almost nothing he says almost nothing and does even less and the Republican North Carolina legislatures making him come out like a victim and the North Carolina legislature is. Wrong on this just like the governor is wrong on setting up, a democratic supreme court candidate at, the last minute, and in putting him on the ballot as a Republican The deceptions going on in Raleigh is very disheartening to me as a former governor by both the governor and by the Republican legislature and guess what Oh We're not afraid to call it out here on the paprika. Show I'm going to step on toes on everyone playing the game in Raleigh because both the Republican legislature is playing a bad, game and so is the governor of North Carolina plane a bad game at the expense of the voters of North Carolina who are being deceived by two constitutional amendments that they're recommending to put on the, ballot this November and one. Amendment the wording is so deceptive that you would have no idea that the constitutional amendment is taking the way all the power from the governor in appointments and it's. Wrong it was. Wrong when bass night ram and Cooper ran the legislative branch and it's wrong now that the Republicans run the legislative branch and it's wrong for ROY Cooper to set up a democratic supreme court candidate in the supreme court, race which is very deceptive to the voters. To that's what you maybe didn't. Know and we're. Gonna Tell you the secrets that you don't read about in the newspaper anywhere else but right here because the guy behind.

"The state do or what has the response been at the state level have you gotten any kind of support any sort of legislation or anything to try to keep north carolina from leading the country in in torture flights from the beginning uh our uh delegations of not to stop torture now but two organizations in the faith community the civil liberties community um uh legal community has met with governors so governor easily uh the staff of governor easily governor purdue uh we tried to meet with governor mccurry but were rebuffed and we've met with the staff of governor cooper as well as attorney general stein um all along what we have encountered i'm sorry to say uh have have been an attitude of ignoring or brushing off the concerns of uh the faith community of veterans of civil liberties advocates well at the same time treating peaceful antitorture protesters as the adversary and um i'm sorry to say that because i think that we need an attitude shift on the part of our elected officials uh we need them to come out and say look torture is wrongs uh torture is counterproductive and torture has damaged our state's reputation um if we had that kind of even verbal leadership from our elected officials i think that investigations like that of the non governor mantle north carolina commission of inquiry on torture could go further um so we have had state legislature this twenty two of them who spoke out who wrote to the attorney general uh mr cooper uh back in two thousand and seven and who introduced a bill to give the attorney general more power in fact an investigative grand jury which uh his office lacked in order to investigate crimes of kidnapping that cost state launch uh as this one does um that bill did not passing the legislature it was the first of its kind nationwide and uh but what what uh the attorney general's office did it at that time and what what it continues to do is kind of whole this issue at arms length keep an eye on it but not support it knocked speak out not provide yet at least the moral leadership that we need do you think it's a matter as if we just kind of ignore the sit michael way that may well be the calculation but here we are twelve years after.

"I still talked to members of the republican leadership talk to them mostly about business we have been able to find consensus on some issues but if they don't want to they don't have to i have very little political leverage because they have a super majority of votes and can override any legislation that i would veto in when when they put out that clarion call for all the republicans to stay in line and we all want governor cooper to succeed at a veto than even moderate republicans who know better still toe the line and still vote with the republican majority this is why we came up with the idea a break the majority because as governor high knows that i cannot be the kind of governor that people elected me to be without help from the general similar we've had some significant successes particularly in economic development had appointed the most diverse cabinet in the history of our state were doing some positive things from an executive perspective but until i get some leverage in the general assembly i can't get the things done in education in economic development i can't do as much to stop this social conservative legislation that makes us embarrassed as a state and doesn't truly reflect who we are as north carolinians and it's time for that to stop it's a problem all over the country and it's a it's one of the reasons why we have such a problem in congress is gerrymandering is it's the same kind of issue except we have it i think worse than anyone and that's been shown by the united states supreme court who just ruled 920 united states supreme court unanimously agreed that north carolina's legislative districts were unconstitutional.
