"You know me a long time Hugh. You know I'm somebody that has long believed in that conservative agenda. You know really first brought to the White House by Ronald Reagan a commitment to a strong national defense, American leadership in the world, fiscal responsibility reform, the right to life and values. But I believe that both my former running mate and many of his imitators in this Republican primary are now giving voice to a new Republican populism and that would walk away from American leadership on the world stage, literally ignore our national debt crisis and wants to marginalize the right to life to be a states-only issue. And I for my part want people to know that I'm going to stand strong on that broad-based conservative agenda and when people look at my record not just as vice president in an administration that did govern as a conservative administration but also my years as a conservative governor and as a leading house conservative for 12 years in the Congress the people will see that I'm the most proven, the most tested, the most qualified conservative in this race and I believe that staying true to that common sense agenda that has defined our movement our party over the last 50 years is not just a it's not just a pathway to victory, Hugh, but I also believe it's a pathway toward restoring America's strength and prosperity. Mr. Vice President it's a bit of a tortoise and a hare race with Vivek playing the hare and you are the tortoise with the constitution on his back and I'm glad you and I have not actually changed much in 25 years we're saying the same things we say and is it going to work though is there enough time for that to work and to appeal to the distant echoes of the Reagan conservatives which a lot of young people just don't believe in anymore. Yeah well look I look you know Ronald Reagan left the White House four decades ago he left this earth three decades ago but people that say that these timeless principles that predated Reagan he you know Reagan was the first one to say that you know he said people call me a great communicator but I actually just communicated great things that came from the heart of a great nation I mean this was these are principles that that you articulate every day on the airwaves across the country here that really go to the very heart of the American founding to the constitution and all the things that have always made America strong and true I'm convinced that the majority of republicans independents and many democrats want to see us continue to be the leader of the free world with a strong military willing to stand with our allies stand up for enemies the majority of Americans know we've got to confront this debt crisis but Joe Biden's policy is insolvency he won't even talk about the massive debt crisis being driven by entitlements in this country and frankly you know the former president's position and many in the republican field also are walking away from a commitment of fiscal responsibility and reform so to me that that's the choice that we have it's not between personalities but there are there are there are good men and and a good woman that are standing in this race so far and and but I have differences and have had differences with them in the past and today but this is really about the country it's really about the direction of our party and uh and I think this this choice between whether we're going to stay true to that that time-honored conservative agenda or whether we're going to follow the siren song of populism unmoored the conservative principles is really why yesterday in New Hampshire I said we've come to a republican time for choosing uh mr vice president I said to the former president yesterday I said to governor Christie earlier today the big great white shark issue below the waves the jaws issue is what happened in covid and I asked the former president why was Dr Fauci the decider in chief and he said he wasn't and uh Chris Christie said what he saw he was you were there why was Tony Fauci in charge of so much for so long well look you know the former president uh assembled a task force early early in 2020 uh the end of February I mean he had added health experts including Dr Fauci to the team in late February he asked me to lead the task force as it became more clear that we were headed into uh not only the worst pandemic in America in a hundred years but a global pandemic and I will tell you in the in the early days I felt like uh I felt like Dr Fauci stayed in his lane when I became uh when I became the leader of the COVID task force I actually added Larry Kudlow and I added the treasury secretary uh Steven Mnuchin to the task force because I knew that whatever temporary steps we would need to take to marshal the kind of supplies that our healthcare workers and hospitals would need that the most important thing is that we would be able to open up America and get the economy moving again but you know frankly I think uh when when Joe Biden emerged as the Democrat candidate when he began to kind of lift Dr Fauci up and say that he was going to turn things over to Dr Fauci I felt that his uh I felt that that Fauci's public posture changed uh and and no surprise that when Biden came in he turned everything over to Fauci and posed on the American people which never would have happened uh under our team look China was responsible for the COVID pandemic schools should have never been closed vaccines should have never been mandated and uh but he was he was part of that task force that President Trump assembled early on but I think the I think the way that Joe Biden demagogued the issue of the pandemic and promised that Fauci in charge ended up changing his posture and his tone as time went on now Mr Vice President I don't want to call anyone on the air a liar or a deceiver but Dr Fauci actively misled me on gain of function research I mean actively misled me as he did the American people on masks do you believe he misled you during his time as an advisor to the panel in which you chaired the response you know I just will never understand I sat at the end of that table in the situation room every single day with the task force and I lost count on the number of times that Dr Fauci insisted to me that it could not have come from a Chinese lab uh even though the the head of the CDC uh a virologist but with his background sat at the end of the table and and shook his head and said no it came from a lab I mean I wrote about that in my book and uh you know all the all that what's come out about about taxpayer dollars flowing into gain of function research is it it's very troubling to me but I I will tell you I'm convinced today that the COVID pandemic that came from that Chinese lab in Wuhan China needs to be held accountable for that uh in the in the days ahead if I'm president of the United States we're going to hold them accountable for the impact on our nation but I I still I I don't understand uh why all throughout that time at that table and the in the task force in the situation room Dr Fauci just insisted it could not have come from a lab when it appears now that uh it came from no other place now uh Mr Vice President I want to talk about China and you've raised it just timely yesterday I asked the former president about an article that came out yesterday at the summer gathering of the elders of China which happens every year it was reported that the elders rebuked Xi Jinping for his style of leadership uh former president Trump said on the show yesterday they'll all be executed by the end of this week what do you think is going on over there and how ought we to respond to China's many aggressive actions everywhere well look I I've met President Xi uh represented our country uh at international conferences where he and I both spoke I gave a very very tough speech uh on China at the very same conference the afternoon he he gave a tough speech pushing back on an unnamed country that uh they had they had made it clear they were going to continue to challenge economically meaning us look China only understands strength and only understands power and the fact that Joe Biden has literally been working to cut military spending since he came into office uh and uh and in fact you look at that recent debt ceiling deal frankly if they don't get all their 13 bills done we'll have a one percent cut in defense spending in 2025 is unconscionable at a time that China's literally floating a new battleship in the Asia Pacific uh every every month so you know what I what I'm saying is is we've got to do two things we got it we it's not about rebuilding the military anymore here we've got to build a military fitted to the challenges in the 21st century that means a 350 ship navy that means leaning into an effort that means ending political correctness at the Pentagon second thing we got to do is build on what we began to do in the Trump-Pence administration which is limit access to our economy to China just like we put those those tariffs on 250 billion until they end their military provocations and the trade abuses intellectual property theft we brought them to the table if you remember that phase one trade deal in early 2020. I mean they were they were at that table like at lightning speed so so they understand when we use the economic power of the United States when we make a commitment to a strong national defense I believe that we I believe that we can keep we can keep moving both President Xi and Communist China in the direction of of our interests and not theirs but weakness arouses evil and President Joe Biden is projecting weakness on the world stage and I believe that's the reason why we're continuing to see China engage in the kind of military provocations and and an aggressive behavior that they've engaged in in recent months.

"Former Governor Christie, thank you. You know, your staff's still not telling me when you're in New Hampshire. I'm going to be in Ann Arbor this weekend for my 40th law school reunion so I can't come down this weekend but please let me know when you're there. I'll drive down and see in person. I want to watch from the cheap seats. I will be in New Hampshire Monday and Tuesday, the 11th and 12th of September doing a big town hall meeting in Bedford on the 12th. Oh, count on it. I'm going to be down there. Chris, have your team send me something, please. I want to be in the cheap seats. I don't want to be up front. I just want to watch and see how the crowd reacts. Chris Christie, always great to have you on, Governor. Thank you for joining me at my invitation after Donald Trump yesterday. Coming back in Hour 3 America with former Vice President Pence because this is Switzerland and everybody gets to talk on the independent third party administrator. You buy the gold and the third party administrator puts it into a vault and they keep you posted on it and hopefully you add to it over the years. I want you to know that over the past 100 years, gold kept up with inflation. It is definitely your runaway money and if you want to diversify, not just stocks and bonds and cash but dirt and gold, well the latter two ought to make up at least 10% of your wealth and some of that should be in gold. I buy my gold from Birch Gold. You ought to as well. Go to hughgold.com. That's hughgold.com or text my name Hugh to 98-98-98. Thousands of you have made those inquiries. Many of you have opened up those depositories. Physical precious metals, physical gold. The one thing that won't slip away in the night. Hughgold.com text Hugh to 98-98-98. Welcome back America. I'm Hugh Hewitt joined by former Vice President Mike Pence. Good morning Mr. Vice President. Welcome back to the Hugh Hewitt Show. Good morning Hugh. Great to be with you. Thanks for having me on. Well I'm sorry I stepped on your big story yesterday with the interview with Donald Trump. You gave an important speech on conservatism and populism so I'd like to have you at least recap for people the core message that you delivered yesterday. You bet. Look I'm running for President of the United States because I think this country's in a lot of trouble. I think Joe Biden has weakened America at home and abroad and I think the choice that we face in the Republican Party is not just not just who will be our standard bearer but what we will stand for.

"Because, you know, they said something about the Trump administration not building the wall. And Vice President Pence said entitled him to a response. Well, you're running against President Trump. How does that entitle you to a response? I just think it's the dumbest rule. And but nobody asked me. We'll be right back on the air with Governor Chris Christie. Stay tuned. Welcome back, America. I continue my conversation with Governor Christie. Governor, I want no labels to prosper. I want them to get out there and raise a lot of money and find a couple of Democrat dummies to run on that and drain votes from Democrats because I'm a Republican. What do you think about no labels? I think it's a fool's errand. I really do. And and I think that they shoot with a shotgun. They don't know who they're going to hurt, depending upon who they nominate, and not something that I would ever care to be involved in. All right, let me talk to you about the campaign itself. I asked former President Trump yesterday, can you campaign from behind a defense table? He dismissed it as being a non issue. It is an issue. I mean, I don't agree with scheduling these trials. I think it's absurd to have trials in the middle of a campaign, but they're going to happen. Can someone really campaign for president when they're a defendant in an ongoing case? No, of course not. And he is going to spend all of March and much of April in a D.C. courtroom with his lawyers telling him he can't speak. Instead of being out on the campaign trail, making the case against Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, he is absolutely disqualified practically from being our nominee. And if we nominate him, we will lose. It's that simple. Governor, regardless of whether you think the indictments are fair or unfair, where the scheduling of the trials are fair or unfair, they are a reality. That is a reality. So I want to ask the two most important questions. At the first debate, very little time was spent by Republicans talking about Joe Biden. What is the best case against Joe Biden in one minute, Governor Christie? The best case against Joe Biden is he created the worst inflation in this country since the Jimmy Carter era. He is destroying American livelihoods by having created that. Secondly, his his military policy has caused death of good American men and women in Afghanistan, caused weakness that allowed the Putin invasion of Ukraine. Thirdly, he has perverted our educational system in a way that one third of our kids cannot read at grade level. It was his policies that have contributed to that problem. And fourth, this is a guy who is simply passed his sell by date. He if he ever could function as president, which I doubt that he could have ever done it well, he is clearly physically and mentally incapable of doing the job. And then that question didn't get asked. And I would have asked it, even though it's boring and very, very predictive, predictable. Why do you want to be the other boring, predictable but necessary question? Why, Chris Christie? There are seven people on the stage with one guy off stage who's got the lead. Why, Governor Christie? What are you telling the people in New Hampshire? Because you are rising in New Hampshire. What I'm telling you is that what we need to do first and foremost is defeat Joe Biden. And there's only one person on that stage, and it is me, who's defeated a Democratic incumbent. And I did it in a very blue state with being outspent three to one by the former CEO of Goldman Sachs and the incumbent governor of the time, John Corzine. When we last time we defeated a Democratic incumbent president was Jimmy Carter. And who defeated him? A conservative Republican governor from a blue state, Ronald Reagan. We first need to win. Second, we need someone who actually knows how to deliver results, not just rhetoric. And I did so in a place with a Democratic legislature for eight years that fought me every step of the way. And I won a majority of those battles because I knew how to communicate with the people and bring them together in a way that led to a re-election in that blue state with 61% of the vote, 70% of the independent vote, and 58% of the women's vote against the female candidate. So you need someone who knows how to win and then knows how to deliver results to ensure an overwhelming reelection.

"So I agree with that. I'm going to come back with Governor Christie if he can give us some additional time. So don't go anywhere, America. I'll talk to him off the air for one question or two and we'll post that and play it tomorrow. But we'll be right back. Don't go anywhere. Stay tuned to the U.S. show. I'm back now with Governor Chris Christie. We will air this tomorrow. Governor, let's use these three minutes off the air and I'll play tomorrow about Dr. Fauci. You heard what the president said yesterday. I was enamored of Dr. Fauci. He came on the show three times and then I lost my affection for him because I found out he was lying to me and he didn't tell me the truth about gain of function, etc. What was going on? You were there. What was going on with Tony Fauci and Donald Trump? Look, I mean, I first have to admit that I wasn't nearly as close to it at that time as I was earlier in the administration in terms of being consulted by the president on these issues. But what I could tell you is he seemed to me to have complete confidence in Dr. Fauci during the time that Fauci worked for him. I think he expressed to me frustration with Fauci from time to time, as he did with almost anybody who didn't agree with him 100% of the time. But he never expressed to me during that period any sense of doubt or lack of confidence in Dr. Fauci. Do you think the handling of COVID is the jaws issue in this primary? Not in the general election, but in the primary? Because Governor DeSantis, Donald Trump tore into him yesterday on his love of Fauci. And then, you know, everyone comes after former president on not firing Fauci. Is it lurking out there in the water for every Republican voter? Look, I do think that it's an issue. I don't. I wouldn't call it the jaws issue, though. But I do think it's an issue. And I think the president has much to answer for regarding his handling of COVID. And I wrote a few op-eds about it at the time. So I didn't agree with the way the president was handling it completely. There were some things I agreed with, much I disagreed with. But, you know, in the end, let's remember that the person who understood and executed the appropriate handling of COVID first was Governor Brian Kemp of Georgia. And anybody who tries to claim otherwise is just trying to rewrite history. Governor Kemp was the guy who did that first, most aggressively and most effectively. Oh, that's interesting. I didn't know that. I thought Kristi Noem was. So that's good to know. Last question before we come back live, Governor, in terms of talking about COVID on the debate stage, the rules don't allow people to actually talk about it. It's a pandemic. You can't do it in a minute. Should the rules change to address what happened and what will happen in the future? Look, I'd love for the rules to change, but for the rules to change, by the way, people on the stage have to adhere to the rules. True. And I think that, you know, one of the real problems of the first debate was that a few of the candidates in particular just paid no attention to the rules. Bells were going off frequently. They just kept going. They kept interrupting at times. And look, you know me, Hugh, I am no wallflower. But the rules are there. I agree. You know, the worst rule is the right of response, Governor. I really, I would torpedo that rule. It's the dumbest rule.

"Look, I don't you know, Hugh, I don't know Jack Smith all that well, so it's tough for me to evaluate his entire career. But what I would say to you is I think there were a lot of people available to the Justice Department to select who didn't have some of the history that Jack Smith has. And given the level of scrutiny that will be on this case, I would have wanted someone with a background that had, you know, none of the history, just reference. All right, let's go to the campaign, because I have seen this movie before from four feet away. And the former president loves a crowd on the stage. And unless the rest of you get together and draw a lot, he's going to be the nominee. If you all stay in through Super Tuesday, he the winner take all rules in California guarantee he will be the nominee. Is that going to happen? You know, we're going to have to see how the campaign progresses, Hugh. You know, we're we're in the first week of September. I'm in the race for three months. I think the idea that any of us at this moment who are doing some impressive things on the campaign trail should drop out is kind of ridiculous. I mean, look, the last New Hampshire poll has me at 14 percent clearly in second place and 20 points behind Trump. But Trump at only 34. You know, I don't see any incentive for me to drop out at the moment at all. So I don't I don't think you should, but I absolutely do not see why Governor Hutchinson is still in this. I do not understand Governor Burgum there. And actually, I don't understand the vague. You started to rip into the vague, but that can be interesting. He's a great interview. I hope he comes back. Did you make a did you make your point with the vague in the last debate? I think I did. But, you know, look, you know, I wasn't my intent to go in and make points on the vague. But when he gets up on the stage and he says some of the patently absurd stuff that he said and the absurd stuff he said on your program, you know, I can't sit there and be silent and won't. But I think I made the points pretty clearly on Ukraine, Taiwan. You know, and I think Nikki made her point very well on Israel. So, you know, I think we've made our points on him. And I think, you know, he's someone who seems to be running more for auditioning for Donald Trump's vice president than he is to really be president. When you get on stage to say he's the greatest president of the 21st century, but at 38 years old, I'm running against him because I'd be better. I don't know what to make of that. That's Pete Buttigieg. I got to go back to the third debate. You said on ABC this past weekend that it's going to be in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. I checked with the RNC. That's not official. But if it does go down there, that is Trump country. And I want to begin by asking about Senator Tuberville's hold on more than 300 colonels, captains and general officer promotions. It is a disaster for the American military. I'm on the record about that. Nikki Haley agrees with me. Former President Trump and Governor DeSantis agree with Senator Tuberville. What is Chris Christie think? I said this already publicly. I disagree with what Senator Tuberville is doing. He has every right to make the point he's making regarding Pentagon policy. But he should not do it by impairing the readiness of our military, which is what I think he's doing. All right. Now, let's go to the debates beyond if there is one in Alabama, the third debate. I believe there are 12 going to happen. Do you think they're going to be 12? And do you think the RNC is going to follow through on that? I do. Every indication I've in to the schedule they put together and that that's what they intend to do, regardless of whether Donald Trump decides to participate or he continues to disrespect Republican primary voters. Right now, President Biden looks to me to be in feeble. I used to use the word infirm, but it is becoming quite obvious he cannot be president for five and a half more years. What do you think is going to happen on the Democratic side, Governor Christie? Look, I think that they're in a very difficult quandary. I think a majority of the Democratic leadership understands what you just said about President Biden is true. But I think they also don't want Vice President Harris to be their nominee because they think she would be a significantly worse candidate than President Biden. But they don't know how to get themselves out of that fix to pass over the sitting vice president. And so I think they're in a very tough bind. I don't think Joe Biden will back out if Donald Trump is our nominee.

"Secondly, will he testify on his own behalf? Look, that's always a client's choice, as you know, and it's going to be ultimately his choice, but I can't imagine any lawyer in their right mind after watching the way he performs would ever put him on the stand and expect it to be anything other than an abject disaster for the termination of guilt or innocence. And third, the obstruction charges have always been the most serious charges, which is why I believe on your program when those charges came out, I said I would not have charged the classified documents portion of the case. I would have only charged the obstruction because I think it's the strongest part of the case and the one that could get the trial most efficiently. Now, when he said he can do anything, that was his response to me when I asked him if he directed anyone to move the boxes. He said, I'm not going to answer that, but I can do anything under the Presidential Records Act. I don't believe that's correct, but I don't argue with my guests. What do you think about that? It's absolutely absurd. First of all, the documents we're discussing aren't covered by the Presidential Records Act. They're just not. They're classified documents, which are to be handled differently. An idea that he could do whatever he wanted, look, he had an opportunity, and this part I agree with, while he was President, to declassify whatever he wanted to declassify, but he didn't do it. And the idea that he could do it by kind of mind-melding with the documents, either while he was President or after, is so absurd that that claim will be laughed out of court. So the Presidential Records Act does not cover what he's talking about, and that's why, you know, I'm sure that's why Jackson has charged those things. I'm just saying, as a strategic matter, I wouldn't have charged them because the obstruction case appears to be so incredibly strong. I mean, when you look at the voice memos of his attorney that are in the possession of government, those voice memos alone and testimony that you have to assume will be consistent with it, with those memos, are so devastating that, you know, if it were in a civil matter, a judge could almost direct a verdict. Well, let me ask you, though, would you have would you have picked Jack Smith for this? Jack Smith has lost at the Supreme Court unanimously for making up charges against Bob McDonnell. He does seem to be an American Javert. He does not come across well in his brief efforts to explain himself on TV. Would you have picked him to be the special counsel for this? Because I think all the D.C. charges are absolutely constitutionally barred.

"Welcome back America, I'm Hugh Hewitt, former President Trump yesterday talking about my next guest, former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. Governor Christie ran you over with a car yesterday, backed it up, ran you over a couple more times. You're used to that. Any reactions to yesterday's interview? Look Hugh, if it wasn't so disturbing that someone like him is actually running for president, you know, I would just feel badly for him. I mean, you know, this is a guy who offered me Secretary of Homeland Security twice, who offered me Secretary of Labor, who offered me White House Chief of Staff in December of 2018. All four of those jobs I turned down. He made me chairman of his transition in 2016 and prepared the entire transition from May of 16 through the election. He made me chairman of his opioid and drug abuse commission, and then adopted every one of the recommendations of the commission that I chaired. He asked me to prepare for the debate against Hillary Clinton in 2016 and I did so. He asked me to prepare for the debates in 2020 against Joe Biden and I did so. I would assume you wouldn't ask someone to do all those things if you really thought they were not very smart and deeply disturbed. So, you know, this is a guy who makes things up as he goes along and I tell you is obviously under an extraordinary amount of pressure given what he's done, what his conduct has been, and the ramifications of that conduct. So, you know, I'm concerned for him because I think he must not be doing well to say the things he said yesterday, but I think anybody who looks at what his objective actions have been over the course of his relationship with me and what he said yesterday, they know what he was saying yesterday is just so odd and disturbing that it should make everybody question whether this guy really has the psychological capacity to be a candidate for president, let alone president again. All right, Governor, before we get to the specifics of the race, and I want to spend most of my time there. I'm in Switzerland, I'm just watching all the troops deploy, and I've seen this movie before and we'll talk about that in a second, but he said he would testify. He also said that most of the indictments against him will be dismissed. I have no opinions on this. I just ask the questions. A, will most of the indictments against him be dismissed? B, should he testify? And C, am I right that the obstruction of justice charges the submarine aim below water midships? On the first question, I do not believe that most of the indictments will be dismissed. In fact, I doubt that any of them would be dismissed. As I said before, Hugh, I think both the New York indictment and the Atlanta indictment were unnecessary, and I would not have authorized those if I was the person in charge of either of those offices, but I don't think that they're legally deficient.

RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel Talks GOP 2023-24 Debates

"Chairwoman Romney, I want to talk about debates with you. We have a fixed field. Former President Trump, former Vice President Pence just dropped his announcement video. Governor DeSantis is in. Senator Scott is in. Ambassador Haley is in. Former Governor Christie dropped his announcement yesterday. Vivek Ramaswamy has been in for a while. I think those seven will get the 40 ,000 minimum donation. Not sure if Governor Hutchinson will maybe. Doubt Larry Elder will, and he's my colleague. And North Dakota Governor Borgum, I'm not sure he will, and I don't think anyone else will. Do you think the field is fixed at those 10 serious candidates, seven of whom are likely to make the debate stage? Yeah, I think we've got the field pretty settled now as who's getting in. I think everybody understood. If I'm going to have to get a $40 ,000, a $40 ,000 small dollar donor base, I'm going to have to get in before August. So I think that field is mobilized. And I think we've created good criteria. And the reason why we've done this $40 ,000 small dollar donor threshold, one, the Democrats had $60 ,000, but the Democrats have a better ecosystem at small dollar donations. And if our candidate is going to be anywhere near competitive with Joe Biden, they need to start creating this building block towards success. And we need to make sure that they have a small dollar fundraising infrastructure. And that's why we're putting this requirement in. If you can't do this, you really shouldn't be running for president. You're not going to beat Joe Biden. So we're not doing it in a punitive way. We're doing it in a success metric. And if you can't do this to get on the debate stage, you're probably not going to be able to take on the incumbent president of the United States.

"Between violent extremists abroad in violent extremists at home but then there's disdainful prowrestler in their disregard for human life in their determination to defile national symbols. They are children of the same foul spirit and it is our continuing duty to confront them. Stark words there from former president. Bush tying domestic terrorism to the threat from terrorism abroad. As well is it seemed like one of the consistent themes that we saw from president bush from president biden from the other speakers over the course of the weekend is the fact of how far how deeply divided in the last twenty years since nine eleven. There is more to the sadness memorial this year. Then i think previous years because we remember what it was like that day we also remember how united we were afterwards. That feeling of purpose that we had that has not just been lost. It's it's the opposite we are. We are in such a deeply polarized place that polarization by all the data. We have was happening before nine. Eleven but it has so dramatically increased in the past. Twenty years we talk about the vaccine mandate in the last section and everything that we talk about now divides us even. We're under such an existential threat. As a worldwide pandemic there was no post nine eleven moment role in martin. The warnings i was speaking with the secretary of homeland security on friday. The fbi director said consistently number one terrorism threat right now in the united states domestic terror absolutely and also be very specific white domestic terrorism. The trump doj. What did they do. They step away from that. Ray was saying it. You have people who were saying. We must confront this when you look at. The southern poverty law center is so many others. You look at the roger. Hate crimes against asian-americans african americans. It is real and the problem is when you have political leaders who are encouraging because it also translate into votes for them and so when you saw what president bush talking about that and i was glad to see president biden and the other real former presidents actually show up as opposed to going do commentary for a boxing match. That's what leaders do they stand united as a country and you have to have more of that but why domestic terrorism and we have to specify that for that reason it is a sickness in this country and must be confronted federal. The state and the local level. Chris christie he was referring of course to former president. Trump also went to a police station. New york yesterday complained again about the rigged election. You gave a major speech at the reagan library this week. Where you said it was time to face the realities of the two thousand twenty election renounced the conspiracy theorists and the truth deniers. So you're on a collision course with former president trump. No i'm i'm on a course to try to make sure that my party become keep remains rather relevant In the political conversation in this country it is becomes aren't mature you're seeing more and more republicans are saying they're buying in to this in the end. I do think that's moving in the other direction. Little continue to move in the other direction and what that speech was all about was to repeat what i said with you on election night. Two three on election night when the president made the speech that he made president trump made the speech that he made. I said it was unfounded. And if there was no evidence of of anything like what he was talking about to stop and drinking effects among republican. it's taken hold among some republicans. George but i think what you're what you're seeing what you're seeing over the course of time as this continues to move past election night and the emotion of an election is that more and more people are seeing that. That's not true and by the way it's also incumbent upon all of us in the party who don't believe it's true to speak out because you're not gonna convince everybody overnight. The same we were having a conversation about vaccines. And you're not gonna convince certain people certain things. I can't tell you what he conversations. I've had with friends of mine. Who are smart good people who aren't so are you getting blowback. I mean listen a little bit but much more praise than blowback for the speech and so you know but in the end. That's how i gave the speech to either. Get praise or worry about blowback. You say what. You believe what. I try to do your every week when i'm on and i said what i believed on thursday night and it's what i'm going to continue to belief and just think for four years we watch republicans either be silent or be complicit and the building of the monster that is trump and even post trump. They're still republicans. Were bolstering ham supporting him. So i feel like too little too late. The reality is is real. Leadership is stepping up to the man at the time. He was in the seat and saying that we won't budge and there was none of that and unfortunately i don't know what the future of the republican party is there so many folks who are now swinging closely we think about the forty seven states that have legislation trying to keep people from voting based on the big lie that we know was not sure we think about january. Six the insurrection that happened on the structure of democracy itself and democracy and they're republicans who don't want to have an investigation into that so this republican party is way far gone and unfortunately too little too late hold on how many on another republican perspective here from sarah is the same debate there. chris believes. The party's over time moving in his direction that disagrees. I think that perhaps we will finally see what we didn't get to see in two thousand sixteen where there were seventeen candidates. Nobody dropped out so that you can have the one on one versus donald trump. perhaps it looks like donald trump is going to run again. We're certainly told that by all of his advisors and by all accounts from him. If it is chris christie versus donald trump in the republican primary republicans will have a choice and certainly donald trump is in some ways at his weakest that he's been since he left. The white house ended other ways certainly what he has said. And trump ism has picked up within the party. It will be up to governor christie to make the case that there is somewhere else to go. But i do think if trump runs he may be alone in that lane and that could be helpful. I'm sorry republican party. They made their choice. And i appreciate the speech governor but the reality is this. You have to admit. Sarah you have to admit the role that you play in. Putting the person in leadership who is driving conspiracy theories it's one thing to condemn them after the fact which we have to own up to the role that you played in in the person in power the time campaigns..

"Dot com. Welcome back. This is the guy Benson show Harry Hurley filling in for part of today, Guy did a fabulous job. During the first half of the program, and it's his show and he and he just It was terrific. His live report at that such a sad occasion, and it was fitting that guy should be able to do that before his flight took off. We have a very special gas. He's he's a dear friend of mine for a long, long time. He's still very young, but we've been friends for a long, long time, and I keep telling him he's got a big second act to go that we're all going to find out about. I think at some point in the near future Governor Chris Christie is a guy Benson show favorite. And between the two of us governor Christine I. We've been friends of President Trump's for about a combined 50 plus years +50 plus years and I'm sure the Governor Christie is going to agree with this. Governor Christie first Welcome to the guy Benson show. Secondly, This is a very sad day for America. Good evening, sir. Good evening, Harry. And it is really I think the last nine weeks have been sad for this country. And this is a really, you know, Terrible way to have t O put a tap on that What were you thinking about when in real time just a little while ago for only the fourth time in American history, but for the second time for one, president and 13 months or thereabouts. The president was impeached this time for incitement of insurrection. What was going through your mind? Was going through my mind is it was just how sad it is. Given all that the president has accomplished, um, a number of items which members of the house you know, detail today. In their four speeches that this is the way that he's leaving the stage and I think it's terribly sad for him on a personal level. I think it's terribly sad for the country has to go through this. And the worst part of it when he finally takes a deep breath. It takes time. To really think about this, rather than reacting was it was all self inflicted. And and I and I can only imagine that the president when he has point of reflect on it will really, really feel Very badly about the fact that all this could have been avoided by his own conduct, and that's the really sad thing about it on the guy Benson Show Newsmaker Line Governor Chris Christie, the former 2016, United States presidential candidate. President Trump's transition team chairman, former United States attorney and the two term very successful 55th, governor of my home state of New Jersey, By the way, governor just just as a personal privilege here on guy show, I was very proud. Of your two terms. As governor of New Jersey. You did a great job. Thank you. Appreciate that very much I loved every minute of it is, you know? Yeah. And you were good. And you were good under pressure. Hurricane Sandy and everything else. I thought you were actually under utilized. The The issue that I keep trying to find an answer to and maybe because it's never been tested. Maybe there isn't an answer. Whatever happens now will probably be the precedent that somewhere down the line people will look at. Oh, this is how this was handled because it's never happened before every president that's ever been impeached. And as you know, there's only been three and one impeach twice. They were always impeached with time for a trial to be held in the Senate. This is happening. I think it's wrong. I think that with with only a week to go, I think this is a divisive not not anyway. T get off. President Biden to to his unity tour, So I think it's bad at that level, but from what you know or what you think or what you here because I think people are divided on this Governor Christie Can there even be a trial in the Senate for a citizen? He's no longer the president. The Senate does not come back into session until the 19th essentially what majority leader McConnell has said is the soonest they could begin A trial would be January 20th at 1 P.m.. I don't think that's a coincidence that he said that Even though I think there's sort of a side of him that's not displeased that the president was impeached. He's not racing to have a trial to stick it to the president or anything unprofessional like that. But can you have a trial? For an American private citizen. Well, I I think that Aziz you very well put it, Harry. It's completely open questions. We don't know the answer. The only thing I would say about whether it is constitutional or not, is That it appears to be that the framers left the issue of impeachment and how it Peter was to be conducted solely in the hands of Congress. And I have a hard time believing that the courts would get involved in this at any point. I think impeachment is a political act. The question of what is a high crime and misdemeanor is to be determined by the the House of Representatives. And then ultimately by the United States senator trial So you're right. There's no precedent. If there are legal challenges to it, though, I suspect that the courts would stay out of it and say the Congress, the House and the Senate. They're the only people who conducted impeachment. Therefore, they set the rules of what is a political act, which is the active impeachment thought an act of loss and it Z. It's a political act by that body against those who hold high office in the United States government. One of the rare things we disagree on is my favorite teams. The photo off the Eagles. Yours is the Dallas Cowboys, and we'll still we still don't hold that against each other. In fact, you gave me a great interview when you made national News, the famous orange sweater..

"I just want your Your view on what happened? Why and what it portends, If anything Well, it's it's a long story, isn't it? It starts with the facts about the election, which are extremely questionable. We can talk about that. But I think the president made a mistake and the nature of the mistake's not hard to identify. Uh, if you go and read the constitutional convention When they get to choosing the executive, the debate is extremely interesting. James Madison was for the national popular vote. Sense of the Congress was against that the convention was against that because They wanted to distribute. Speaking of the president across the country, you know that much on their minds. Madison's, too was how to unite a great country into a single system of representative rule, which had never been done before. So then they went to the state executives, and they thought Well, there's not very many of them and you could have a cabal and you could have horse trading and people could pick somebody for president. That they you know that to get something for it. Then they thought the state legislatures, which is more numerous and better Then they thought they can pick electors. Then they thought the electors will meet in their states separately. They can't pick anybody who's already an official. They can't pick people from their states. Until the whole thing was to make the thing neutral and widespread. So that means that the state legislatures are the remember. It doesn't say the state governments, which means the All three branches of the state. It means this is state legislatures. He can fear that with the way Congressional Congress is the judge Feeding of all of its members, right, So Nancy Pelosi, I think is trying to unseat somebody from some state right now, and they certainly have the power to do that. So it's the legislatures, And that means that when the Legislature's Settle on some electors. The only remedy for it is to get them to change. And you know there was a huge effort right up to the last day January 6th To get them to change. And I live here in Michigan and no some of them and was very much of the view that they were never going to change. So that means that Probably this was over on D. It would have been better if it you know at least two weeks ago, but maybe a month ago. It just would have been better if we had all acknowledged that in that president Trump had acknowledged that And then so then, you know, there's a demonstration they say incited a riot. He called for them to be peaceful, peaceable repeatedly in his remarks. So he certainly didn't intend to do that. Uh and you know it. It got out of hand for several reasons, as far as I can tell. So the doctor lets positive from him and I did not see the speech. I was recording at the Nixon Foundation, the 108th anniversary tribute to President Nixon and doing all the sorts of stuff that goes in that so I didn't see him actually speech. I'm told Rudy Giuliani called for trial by combat, and the president urged people to march on the Congress and fight. I don't know what Donald Trump Jr did. But you think he said peaceful? Well, I've read the transcript this morning, he says peaceable. Two or three times. That's news to me. Okay? Yeah, And he you know, so I, you know, maybe the transcript. I right is wrong and I didn't see it either. I know it is. You know, I don't I am a week on week is abundant because real job and because I don't watch TV news, which is apparently where reality is located now. But so And, you know, he even offered to walk down to the Capitol wisdom. So I don't think he was imagining. Uh Any physical assault. And surely that's you know, so But on the other hand He called the crowd together and that you know, so he has responsibility for that. And let's pause there. I asked Governor Christie this morning about potential liability of the president to the family of the different dead police officer. Because tort liability is supposed to criminal liability does not depend upon intent. It depends upon negligence and recklessness. What is foreseeable and what is the proximate cause of injury? You think he is the proximate cause of that man's death. No. And here's Why, Um The you know. Protests and rallies are American as apple pie, and you know it's worth noting that this protest in rally Is being treated very differently than the sustained violence that went on in the country over the summer. On, Let's you know, not right. And the point is the Trump rallies are tremendous phenomena, and they have been Almost entirely peaceable. And the people who go there. People from you know, I said, I see them and sometimes I know people among them. I've never been to a trump rally, but I've been in the place where they were being held. There are a lot of people and those air people from Middle America who pay their own way to get back there. Uh And so it's you know, I don't I don't think that, uh, you know why You know a group of them and I don't know how many itwas but maybe 100 or 200. What crossed across the police line. And went into the Capitol building. I believe the numbers actually over 1000 doctor on but I'm not sure I see. Okay, Well, that's you know, that's bad. They shouldn't have done that. That's you know, it's a breach of the law. They all got to be prosecuted. Somebody is going to be prosecuted for murder and felony murder is not out of the question for all of them. Yeah, that's right. So, so it's a bad thing. And, uh, aside, I Remember remind you remind everybody that Governors all over the country joined those protests that were accompanied by riots. This summer. And people were harmed and businesses were burned and people were killed. And, uh,.

Gov. Kristi Noem calls Biden's win 'premature,' criticizes election process

"Governor Christie Gnome is with us. She is from South Dakota. She is one of my favorites, and she was very out. Spoken about Donald Trump. And now about the recount, and I mean she's going to be put on a list. I hope you're prepared for that. Governor. You there. I am I I guess I guess I am prepared for that. I know that that some of the discussion that's happening out there, but This is about protecting our country and our electoral process going forward. It's not just about this election that's about everyone going forward and making sure that we don't break our country by not keeping The transparency and honesty in the election. So this isn't just about Ah, recount to make sure that by hook or by crook Donald Trump wins It is truly about we have to have this process. Be credible. Oh, absolutely. I mean, we live in a republic and in a republic, the government gets its power from the consent of the governed the governor the people and we give our consent on Election Day. And so we have to trust that it's a fair, legitimate and honest process, and there are definite questions out there across the country about this last election, and so that is why we make sure that we Challenge those cases that are questionable and make sure we have our day in court to to ferret out any kind of discrepancies that there might be that is we allowed that in 2000 when Al Gore had questions about that election process. I don't know why we're not Willing to wait and give Donald Trump his same day in court to make sure we clear this up, so the American people can have confidence that they still are the ones who give government its power every time we elect our leaders. So George Stephanopoulos. I always wanna columns Snuffleupagus. But Stephanopoulos said on Ah, this week on ABC, where you were Do you have anything to back this up? Are you asking me that? That's what he asked. Well, he asked me that and I said, Absolutely we do. We have people across the country that has signed affidavits, which are legal documents. It can be used in court to say that they believe there was election fraud going on and witnessing to what they saw going on. In many of these states. We have the New York Times themselves that admitted that there were clerical errors out there. We have dead people who voted in Pennsylvania. We have computer glitches in Michigan. That changed Republican votes to Democrat votes. All of these are you know, documents and people that are willing to testify to the fact of what they saw. And that is why We need to hear those out. I'm not saying it's going to overturn the election to what people think it is. Today. We don't know how widespread it is. But why would we not answer those questions and make sure that there was an honest process in place to know that the right man is going to end up in the White House for the next four years?

South Dakota emerges as new U.S. coronavirus hot spot

"Just before the fourth of July this summer the Republican governor of South Dakota Christie gnome one on Fox News to announce of excitedly that president trump's big July fourth campaign event at Mount. Rushmore would not require attendees to wear masks Hooray and definitely there would be no social distancing she said yeah and sure enough a big mostly mask lists crowd packed in for president trump's rally. Then South Dakota refused to have mask requirement or any kind of changing plans actually for the annual sturgis motorcycle rally last month, which attracted upwards of four hundred, thousand people. The sturgis motorcycle rally has now been linked to hundreds of new coronavirus cases, and at least one death cases in south. Dakota doubled in the two weeks after that event, there's actually a study out today that projects that the Sturgis rally alone may have led to an almost staunching number of new covid infections. South Dakota Governor Christie gnome has defended the sort of covid denial list approach of the state under her leadership saying that South Dakota will not listen to quote in elite class of so-called experts. Under her leadership, the state also ahead this past weekend with its state. Fair. No Corona virus walls for that gathering either. Now, as a few days ago, South Dakota has the highest number of corona virus cases per capita in the whole country. South Dakota's leaders refused to take measures to stop to stop the spread of it. They rejected the warnings of those pointy headed so-called experts. And now, here we are.

"We heard criticism from South Dakota Governor Christie Gnome who hit on the law and order issue. Talking about recent protests in major cities. There's looting, chaos, destruction and murder. People that can afford to flee have fled. But the people that can't good, hardworking Americans are left to fend for themselves. And, of course, Dmitry That's an issue that's been hit on hard by vice President Pence and President Trump. They have also been some positive messages tonight, one of them from outgoing White House senior adviser Kellyanne Conway. That's right. Kellyanne Conway did not take partisan shots at the Biden campaign. Instead, she praised the president for giving women opportunities in government and his businesses, and she tried to point to a softer side of President Trump. I have seen firsthand many times. President comforting and encouraging. A child who was lost a parent. A parent who has lost a child. And that theme has been resonating throughout the night. The theme is America Land of Heroes, and There's been a lot of emphasis on that Iowa senator Joni Ernst, praising Iowans for dealing with flooding in a derecho. But she also said Joe Biden's ticket would hurt farmers. In fact, I can't recall an administration more hostile the farmers than Obama Biden unless you count the Biden Harris ticket, But
