"Talk about the teams that aren't going. What are you doing Meg and none of those teams are in the stupid playoffs so talking about the ones that are I'm going to ask you a question so that I start stop rambling. What matchup in the wild card round are you most excited not specific like pitchers against one another that you could talk about that too I guess. But which team, which series are you the most excited to sit down and really, you know like squish the couch down and be like, I'm watching this. I think it probably is Mariners Blue Jays. Oh no, Ben, it's gonna be. The only downside is that I would prefer for both of those teams to play a little longer and that is not a possibility, but they are skilled in very different ways. I guess you could say and so it's kind of a fun matchup in that sense and that yeah, the Blue Jays lineup will just grind you down. It's pretty good from top to bottom. Yes. Even though Vlad has not quite been the Vlad of last year and of late has not even been the Vlad of earlier this year, but there's still just a ton of firepower in that lineup and they're not a lot of holes, whereas with the Mariners, there are some holes. There are at least some spots that are not strengths, let's say. So there's that, but the Mariners I would be much more afraid of their bullpen than I would be of the Blue Jays in front of Romano. But also I would be somewhat afraid of manoa and gossman. Yeah. That's kind of a scary top two, whereas I guess I would be less intimidated by any two of the Mariners starters. I would feel better about any three of them, perhaps. Yeah. And certainly any four of them, but they can't play four in this particular series. And really, I guess you've got to start Robbie ray because he's Robbie ray and he is well known and he was here big addition and everything and he's, you know, he's been better than he has been fine. Fine. But that lineup is extremely righty heavy the Blue Jays lineup and that just seems like an ideal catch up. So I don't know that you could actually avoid this really just given all that goes into who gets starting assignments in the postseason, but I might have a somewhat quicker hook than one would normally for a picture of that stature and salary and so forth just because this particular matchup, it does not seem conducive to rapid race success. Right, so if it were me, it would not. He would just be like, I got a cough and I can't because I have a cough or like we could because you don't want to put him on the injured list because then he's not available for the division series that they might play. So, you know, but you want to you could have a migraine, you know? That's believable because I can't imagine a worse place to be than a playoff sporting event if you had a migraine. I would simply prefer to become a ghost, you know, personally. So they should be like, oh, he unfortunately has a migraine. And so what do we do except instead have Logan Gilbert start and then George Kirby? Right. You know, if you're with me, but I don't get to have a say because I don't have anything to do with it, you know? There's some podcasting, really. On the other hand, though, you might have some good matchups in the bullpen if you do have a fairly aggressive hook as I hope you should in this series. I mean, you have some pretty nasty guys who would be good fits for those slated right on rate match ups. I mean, you have your sea walls and your Diego Castillo's and your Eric Swanson's and your pen Murphy's and of course you're Andres munoz and these guys kind of scary, probably for Blue Jays fins and the late innings in a close game. There might be some vulnerability there. Not that I think the adjacent had a huge platoon split themselves as far as a recall like they're just a good lineup, just a bunch of good hitters. They can hit righties, but if you have some tough ratings coming in who themselves will have some platoon advantage. They're still, you know, it's not going to nullify their offensive advantage, but it might mitigate it somewhat. So that's sort of the saving grace. Yeah, yeah, I mean, it's just like a very fearsome lineup. Now, what I would maybe point out if I wanted to be fatalistic about stuff is that the Seattle bullpen has not been as effective lately, you know, as it had been for a while, it was like, wow, and now it's like, it's fine. But it's also like, it's just recent. I don't know what to do with my hands. While I'm talking about this, I don't know how to analyze the Mariners in the postseason. Having a breakdown. I just know that my logical brain knows that there are places in this series where Seattle matches up to their own benefit like really well. And there are places where it's less good, but the feelings part of my brain is like, they're going to get swept and then I'm going to be sad. So that's clouding the logical part. I wonder, if I'm the Mariners, I feel very nervous about really everyone in this lineup hitting. Well, that's not totally true. Like Julio's grade and ty France has his moments and Mitch has been like not completely, but we'll never. And then like eugenio Suarez has looked pretty okay since coming back from the injured list and like of course they have big dumper. So why am I doubting anything? But there are vulnerabilities to be exploited here because you're going to get like Adam Fraser and Jared Kellogg is going to have to take winker's outright. Right, winker is out probably for the rest of the postseason. Same haggerty, you know? I was just reminded that Tom Murphy was at one point on the spaceballs in which I looked really long time ago. So, you know, I don't know that I've said anything particularly insightful here other than I feel nervous and it's manifesting as like tingling behind my eyes, which I hope doesn't mean that I'm about to get a migraine. Well, we can move on to the next series because you're going to be suffering enough strain as it is this weekend. I imagine. It's going to be so miserable. Like I have had this thought at various points over the last couple of years when we have had like really tense games or like do you remember Ben that postseason where the Dodgers and the Red Sox played a game that lasted approximately two years? Yeah. It was like a 97 inning long game. I think that it almost killed rob Manfred. I think he would prefer to have been a ghost throughout some radicalized him that was his super villain origin story that led to the zombie runner. He became the joker. Anyway, so I remember thinking during that game, I've remembered thinking about this during tense moments throughout the last couple of years of postseason play like, wow, am I glad that this isn't a team I care about personally? Doing this. And now, I've let my dumb human feelings return, and I am about to be miserable. Do you know how you're gonna do it?

"He's up. He wants to watch highlights. He's the one who told me about Pujols, pinch hit Grand Slam. For career number 6 90s, closing in on 700. Just needs ten more of the rest of the season. He's watching it and he saw tie on his pitching against gossman tonight. He goes, oh, dad. That's how I left the house today. Even 11 year olds can smell the fear. So a rod finished with 6 96 career home runs. If Pujols is like around that number, do you think it comes back next year just to get 700? I don't know. 'cause this is supposedly it, right? I guess. What does he want to do? Get to $700. If he wants to, somebody thinks St. Louis will get ma roster spot. I mean, he could he might catch the babe if he poisoned next year. Jake and Massachusetts, you're here on the rich eyes and show what's up, Jake, which line? That's 5. Sir, line 5 for those scoring at home. What's up, Jake? What's up, rich, big fan of yours. Thanks, pal. I just wanted to talk a little bit about the box receiving core. How come no one's talking about how deep and load it is this year, especially when it was kind of an Achilles heel for them last year with AB freaking out and Godwin going down. I think Russell gage is the best third or fourth receiver in the NFL. If they get anything out of Julio, that's a bonus, Cameron braids a viable tight end, not to mention Godwin coming back and Mike Evans being a perennial stud. Well, Jake, are you originally from Massachusetts Jake? Born and raised, still live here. Pretty much. So then I'll use a phrase that you might be familiar with. I've been talking about Russell gage for months. How do you like them apples? You know? Do you like apples? Do you like apples, Jake? You know? How do you like them apples? That's right. Quote in a great movie. You know what I mean? 'cause if I'm not mistaken, Kris, didn't I see it was the most underrated number one? The number one off season off season move that nobody's talking about. Russell gage. That's what I mean. And I don't know why other people aren't. Everyone's like, oh, well, Julio's old. It's like, take out four top receivers. They just need their quarterback back. Hopefully we'll get them soon. Thanks for anyone who can miss an off season and not miss a beat. It's Tom Brady. So I'm not worried about him taking a couple of weeks off in August. He does sound originally from Massachusetts, don't you think, Chris? Don't you think? Me and Jake get along with me. I've been watching Brady since the 50s. So I really think he's going to light it up this year. Thanks, sir. Greatly appreciate it. There's Jake in Massachusetts. Brady had statistically maybe his besties in last year. Which is insane. Florio said it perfectly an hour one, everything about him is unprecedented. Everything. Everything about him is unprecedented. A 44 year old who retires in your thinking, why? 45 year old who comes back and you say, thank goodness. Good for him. Why would he come back? Huh? Either one. Yes, it's awesome. He's back or why would he come back? 'cause he loves the game and he wants to play and he wants to win one more and he didn't like the way it finished or whatever the hell happened to cause him to retire but not really retire in the first place. Is something he wants to rectify. I have no idea. I have to announce boring. And now, and now look at him. He's killing it. He comes off a 5000 yard season and he's got as to Jake's point, Evans, Godwin, gage, right? No, a Kyle Rudolph's now down there and he can have Gronk and Edelman back if he wants, apparently. He's like, well, definitely everyone's like, if somebody wants to give me a call, I was Tuesday. We didn't talk about it that much. Other shows have talked about it more than we have. 'cause I kind of just thought he was just, I don't know. Listen to my podcast. You know what I mean? That's what I've said for years. I thought he was doing the thing. No, I don't think he was doing the thing he would have been like, dude, I'm done. I don't know. Doing the thing where he thinks he could get a call by a team in November. Yeah, but week 12 and then end of the year playing. Why not? You play 8 games, maybe? He can give you half a season? Right? I mean, look, if you need a first down, he's your guy. What if he comes back and he wins a Super Bowl with somebody? With like an 8 catch game in the Super Bowl. Don't you think? Exactly. Don't you think? Well, I mean, I already think he won, but I don't know about that. As much as I love the guy and as much as I think down the line on the veterans committee, he gets in. Look at all the people who are going in now. He's the second best playoff wide receiver ever. What if he comes back and he wins a Super Bowl one more time and he has like 6 catches for a hundred yards in the Super Bowl. Then I hopefully all the haters will be quiet. Then you'd really have to think hard. What's the difference from what he's done already? That's not one more. Like people pointed one more point is that he's never made a Pro Bowl. He never, you know what I mean? It doesn't have any. It's just the regular season. You didn't have like a cup type season. You didn't have anything close to a cup type season. Oh, he played with Brady. We'll get one more. You know what I mean? These guys don't get credit for being as great as they are because they think Tom just made them. Right.

"It must be a competitive advantage. So it's interesting because they are like, in terms of their sort of base running, which is our base running stat at fan graphs, which takes into account more than just stolen bases, right? They are pretty kind of middle of the pack, right? Like they, as a team, it's like 14th, but they have the same based on a number as the cubs. They're slightly better than Toronto, and then there's a bit more of a gap that starts to emerge. Like the rangers are just like really weird in the way here. Goodness. I haven't looked at this number in a while because it's not a thing I think about very often. But so it's not as if they are being penalized so much by their by their running into outsole though. I think that it is the thing that people notice the most. So based running takes into account weighted stolen based runs ground into double play runs and you be our, which is ultimate base running. And those are all available on our player pages and leaderboards so you can look at the individual components and like what they break down into and there's a lovely calculation on our glossary page if you're really curious about this stuff, but like zero and I will admit this table is from 2014. So these numbers might have moved a little bit, but like zero is average and then like 8 is really good and negative 6 is really bad. And so some of this stuff is probably moved around a little bit in the years since this piece was written. But they're not like terrible at it. They just are not, they're just doing the part that you remember the most. You know? Yes, right. I think that the outs on the bases number probably makes them look worse than they are, but I don't think they're good. I think looking at baseball reference, which breaks it down. They have made more outs than anyone at second base, which maybe is related to the fact that I don't think they have a great stolen base success rate, so far this season. But if you were to say that they were getting some kind of competitive advantage by yes, they're running into a lot of outs, but they're also getting a ton of extra bases. Then you would expect to see them at the top of some of these other columns on the baseball reference team based running leader board, which they are not. So baseball reference has a set called bases taken, which they define as bases advanced on fly balls, pass balls, wild pitches, box, defensive indifference, and the rays are below league average in that stat. And then they also have a stat called extra bases taken percentage, which is the percentage of times the runner advanced more than one base on a single or more than two bases on a double when possible. They are also below weak average or really right around leak average. In that stat. So it doesn't seem to me that this is just like a high risk, high reward strategy. It seems like they are probably just running into some of the three provisions. I don't know that there's any four G chest raised forward thinking competitive advantage going on here. And also, unlike some of the other teams that Peter mentioned, they don't have a high team on base percentage. So they haven't had a ton of base runners. I don't think. And so they can afford to lose a lot of them to outside the basis. So no, I don't think that this is an example of a competitive advantage. It could be could have a team that was like, yeah, we know that we're going to get thrown out at times, but it'll be worth it in the long run. I just don't really think that's what's happening in this particular case. And I think also generally teams have moved in the other direction where it's like we're not going to go for the extra base because we realize that outside the bases are costly. And so that's why in recent years we have seen that the rates of players trying to take the extra base and just stolen base attempt rates, the success rates have gone up because this attempt rates have gone down. Teams are being more conservative on the whole and that has to do with the run environment as well. But yeah, I don't think the race are a great base ready team. I don't think there's a really positive way to spin this. Well, they don't have a they don't have a ton of room for guys, right? No. Well, maybe they have more than they should. But actual fast guys. Actual fast guys, right? Like if you look at the sprint speed leaderboard for Tampa, you know, like, no, not all of these guys are getting equal amounts of playing time and some of them are heard. And so, you know, but like Kevin kier Meyer is their fastest guy, that is unsurprising, but like G man is slow and Mike's and you know who has been hurt for a while and that was slow and Esau parades is slow and Francisco mejia is slow. And yandy Diaz is slow. We got some slow boys out there. Guys, slow boys. Yeah, combination of slow and room mentality. Right. That's not ideal. And so I don't mean to suggest that they're like amazing at it. I think that they are probably not as bad as the memory of being out all the time. Not all the time, but making outs on the basis makes them feel, but they're not good at it either. And some of those outs might be really inopportune. They may come at it really bad moments, Ben. Yeah, good. Yeah. All right, Jacob writes the Orioles have in recent memory been notorious for their pitchers doing well when they leave. Kevin gossman, of course, our top of mind, but has some kind of corner been turned here. Keegan Aiken, Jorge Lopez, Dylan Tate, and dean Kramer have all seemed to have found something this year, is this small sample size noise, or is there something here? Are the newly semi respectable Orioles good at pitcher development? I don't know. Yeah, a little too soon to say. It would not surprise me if they were or if it were no longer a weakness at least, given that there are a lot of Astros people who are running the Orioles and that has been a strength of the Astros organization and still is in the paperback edition of the MVP machine I did afterward a new chapter at the end just about the Orioles because I had written a bit about the Astros in that book. There was one chapter on them and how they changed player development. And so I went and talked to some Orioles people because they were at the time truly terrible and it seemed like they were trying to follow in the Astros footsteps. And so I tried to look forward and peered to the crystal ball and see will they actually be able to file in their footsteps or is that tough to replicate or has just the player development landscape changed so quickly that it's tough to do with the esters did. And I don't know. I think too soon to say, but it would make some sense to me that they would be a lot better at that than they had been historically when it was a completely different regime doing things in a completely different way. And I think it's encouraging at least when you look at some of the Orioles results and some of the

"He still having a fantastic season. That's pretty good, right? It was a Grand Slam, too, wasn't it? It was, yes. Yes. Yes, they became, I saw a Katie sharp tweet about this, but I believe the effectively well Discord group had it first. Yes, I think you're right. They were not credited, but I think that this was the first time in MLB history that two different players with the same first name hit grand slams in the same game. So that's something, I guess. But yeah, Aaron judge, he's still pretty much tearing the cover off the ball. So what I wonder, I mean, now that we're at roughly the halfway mark of the season, if we were to handicap the MVP race, which we don't do a lot of early prognostication about award wins, but I am kind of curious about this race in particular because I think judge got off to a really hot start and was the prohibitive favorite Otani has been coming on. José Ramírez is lurking. There are other players in the mix there, but I wonder basically how much ohtani would have to surpass judge by, let's say, in combined war to win this thing again, because we are in an era where voters pay pretty close attention to war, typically, but maybe there's a little bit of angels fatigue understandably. The angels have won a lot of MVPs without being a good baseball team, maybe there is interest in appetite for someone who is not an angel, especially because the angels are losing again, and are probably not going to make the playoffs at this point, they're not out of it, but they are certainly not on pace to make the playoffs currently. So is there a bit of a well ohtani just did this last year and yeah, it's still spectacular, but there's nothing like the first time and so maybe the field will be opened. Voter's minds will be open to someone else who is in the same war vicinity. I mean, if he finishes like a winter to ahead of anyone else, like he did last year, maybe that changes the conversation a little bit. And maybe he would have to do that in order to edge out someone like judge, assuming, of course, that judge roughly maintains his pace and has something close to a 60 Homer season. I just kind of wonder how good would Otani have to be, what do you have to be even better than last year if you just repeat slash or even comes up a little short compared to last year, will everyone still be as impressed and say, yeah, this is amazing. He's got to win the MVP no matter what or will it be another angel? Again, eh, maybe someone else this time. Oh. So I have conflicting thoughts about this. I think that on the one hand, it's hard for me to put myself in a position where I care about it being a bunch of angels, right? Like, I have a hard time thinking I care about that. I do think that the answer to my question does depend, this is going to be an obvious way of phrasing this. Like it does depend to the other really good baseball players will like to, of course, it does. I think that my baseline, my baseline assumption is this. If Otani is within sort of half a win of the combined AL leader board in any given year, I just think he's like the guy you have to give the award to. Not only because we know that the error bars on war such that he is, he is effectively leading the American League in more. Now, that means that Aaron judge is too, because there are only they have a .1 wins worth of separation and you're on is at 3.9 wins and Rafael Devers is at 4.1. So like they're all effectively the same guy, but I think that when you take into they're not the same guy in terms of the shape of their production being the same just to be very clear. Or the shape or the shape of them being the same. Although we do have a bunch of we do have a bunch of big strapping guys at the top of that leaderboard, don't we? What I mean to say is that I think that when you take into consideration the acknowledge sort of error bars on war as a concept and then you take into consideration what I feel comfortable saying is war not being able to as it is currently constituted fully capture the value of Otani because of how he is arriving at his at this moment as we record 4.2 wins. Like there might end up being fatigue with it being the same guy, but if he's doing this, he's just the AL MVP. I think he's just the AL MVP. Now, now, Aaron judge plays for the Yankees, he is having a superlative season in his own right and he has the potential home run chase element to his candidacy. So I don't know how voters would separate those things out. I think that the pull of a very good Yankee potentially meeting or exceeding a home run record in a walk here is going to be a super compelling narrative as it should be. And I think that the idea of an incredible two way player being completely superlative again also very compelling. So I guess that my answer is, I don't know how voters will come down on this, but I think that both of those cases have a lot to recommend them. And that the conversation around it might actually be fun. It might actually be fun, unlike most years where it makes me want to never go on the Internet again. So I'm very stoked on this because not as excited as I am about the futures game. But that's not true. That's not true at all. But this is great. It is super exciting when there is legitimate debate to be had about two guys who are doing something very special, but the shape of that specialness is distinct from each other. Like that is super fun. This gives us an opportunity to appreciate two dudes having just tremendous seasons. And I don't say two dudes to slight Raphael's Evers or Jordan Alvarez, but I think that if things kind of continue apace, despite the great years that those guys are having, this will end up probably being viewed as sort of a two man race. And you know, here I am once again discounting those here. Even though we tell people not to do that all the time, but here I am being like, I don't know, it's just a two guy race and José Ramírez is like, what? Okay, I forgot to mention Devers before and you forgot to mention Ramirez, but between the two of us. We've mentioned all the we've mentioned all the guys and can we just talk about how mitro is still being still very much in the neighborhood. He's like hanging out. He's like, what do I have to do? Get some respect around here. So I don't know that I have an answer. I think that there will be there will be people who sort of settle into their camps on either side of that in terms of which is more worthy, but I don't think that people saying, it should be Aaron drudgery. Making a silly argument. He's been spectacular. She's been really, really good at baseball. And people who are like, oh, yay, it's like, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I do wonder if it will help with tiny that yes, he's the same guy, but he's really two in one. And the balance of power between the two has shifted a little. Yes. Now by the end of the season, who knows his offensive status may look a lot like they did last year. He started slow. He's kind of come on at the plate, but the pitching has been much improved at least compared to his full season stats last year. And so that, I mean, he's a Cy Young candidate outside of the key race rate. I mean, I don't think he's been better than Shane mcclanahan or Kevin gossman to this point, but he is third in fan graphs picture war in the AL right now and top ten in the majors. I mean, he is in that conversation purely as a pitcher despite the 6 man rotation.

"Right now slated to make more in 2022 than the Orioles, the pirates or the guardians, entire roster. How much money Max Scherzer is making? Okay, let's talk about the Texas Rangers in two days they committed more money and salary than they had the previous four seasons combined. What about the rangers adding Marcus Simeon and Corey Seager? Well, they might now have the best middle infield in baseball. Marcus Simeon had a tremendous year and that's two out of the last three. He's been a great player a tremendous Clubhouse guy and remarkable that how well he moved to second base last year when that is not an easy transition. Corey Seeger is still a terrific player. But let's keep in mind the rangers won 60 games last year. They got outscored by a 190 runs and I had a talent of evaluator tell me that other than a Dolly Garcia, they really don't have an everyday player on their team that can play on a maybe even an above 500 team. That's how he described the rangers offense, how short they were on position players. Well, they added two really good ones. Guys who are going to be there for a long time, they're going to stabilize and defensively and offensively and adding John grey to that rotation. Now they have to address their pitching, but for the rangers a tremendous first move. And if they can go from 60 wins to 75 with those three editions and others, that's a pretty big jump. In my like what the angels are trying to do this winter and that is the threat and needle on one hand up grade the pitching staff. You know, that's entirely their focus. And at the same time, not necessarily get locked into huge long-term contracts because at some point they're going to have to pay shohei Otani. What do you think of the angels? Well, I like what they've tried to do here. They got their clothes, raised yellow glaciers, which I think they had to do. They added Noah synagogue. We don't know what he's going to be like, given his health, but he's certainly worth a try at 21 million for one year. I think they have a chance to get better. I still don't think they're that far away if Otani has that year trout comes back and is the best player in baseball. Rendon comes back and is a 100% healthy. I think this team has a chance to be much better than last year, but they have to add another starting pitcher and maybe two, because what they've added so far just isn't enough. The Seattle Mariners and Toronto Blue Jays to me very interesting off seasons. The Mariners signed Robbie ray. American League sayong award winner, the Blue Jays signed Kevin gossman away from the San Francisco Giants, gossman had a big step forward last year. I know the Giants didn't make a strong attempt to keep him in part because they were concerned about his second half. Give me some thoughts and Mariners and Blue Jays. Well, I like where the Mariners finished last year as we know. They almost made the playoffs. They've done some interesting things and starting with Robbie ray. I mean, he has to be, if they're gonna make the playoffs, Robbie ray has to be something close to the say young winner that he was in 2021. So just that move alone, I think gives them some real versatility in that rotation and Adam Frazier gives him another offensive player at second base, which they needed also. I could see them making the next step next year and making the playoffs with the moves that they made. As for the Blue Jays, I mean, those are those for big losses. You lose the Cy Young winner like that. You lose Marcus Simeon. Those are big losses. But they filled in with some interesting people. They have that great young base coming back, and I still like with a Blue Jays are, I could see them be at a playoff team next year also, if, of course, there are 7 playoff teams instead of 5. I had a conversation with a baseball executive yesterday in which I said, you know, a team that I kind of like what they're doing, the Marlins, they go out and trade for Joey Wendell. They trade for Jacob stallings to be their catcher. You know, to help that young pitching staff, they sign Abby sailed Garcia. You can make an argument that maybe they paid above market for him. But you know what, Tim, they have potentially a great rotation. They got a little bit better on defense and they got a little bit better on offense. What do you think? Yeah, I think they got more than a little better on defense. Joey Wendell is a well above average defensive third baseman or wherever you put him. Jacob stallings want a gold glove. And obviously Darcy is a pretty darn good right Fielder and he was arguably the best offensive player on the brewers last year, even though the brewers didn't hit much in the postseason. Plus, with that young rotation, they signed sandy Alcantara long-term. I really liked what the Marlins did also. I'm not suggesting their better than the mets or the braves or maybe even the Phillies, but they needed some significant work done with that team after last year, and they got it done. All right. Some teams that are relatively inactive, when you compare it to market size, the Yankees, the Red Sox, the Dodgers, the Phillies, the Giants, and I'm not saying, these are the reasons that this is justified, but I do think that and I know this from conversations with executives. But part of the thinking of those teams who have all flirted with the competitive balance tax threshold in recent years and sometimes moved up on over it and sometimes gone below it is that they want to know what the rules of the next CBA are actually going to be. It's pretty clear Steve Cohen just plowed through and he's like, you know what? I'm going to spend this money. I'm going to have a huge payroll and if they're taxes, that's fine, I'll deal with that. Whereas I think from what I understand, some of the other teams are like, you know what? We want to know what the rules are and Tim, as I talked about with Paul and bikinis, if you're a team that has some financial flexibility after this labor stoppage is over, you could potentially do some damage because it's going to be a scramble with a lot of the middle class players taking big hits and salaries. So I don't know if it was the right thing for the Yankees to do. They need a shortstop, but that's I think the justification in part for what they're thinking. Yeah, and I certainly understand that. Now, I think if you're a Yankee fan, you want your shortstop wrapped up before you get to December the first and that did not happen, but I'm with you on this buster. Those are payroll, flexibility teams, those big market clubs that can do pretty much whatever they want when this market open opens back up again, which again, we're not sure when that's going to be. Dodgers can pretty much do whatever they want because of their money, but they still have a very good team. The Yankees have some work to do. I fully expect them to do it once they understand what the rules are, and they can not get out of this off season without getting a premiere shortstop one way or another. And the Red Sox didn't do much. I'm still not sure I understand the hunter Renfro move. He was an excellent defensive player last year and had a pretty darn good offensive season also. But again, they have the flexibility to say we can wait where others couldn't. So I'm not going to let you get completely unscathed from the labor situation. I got one question for you. Could you have like I have the perspective of time having covered multiple labor situations and leadership groups on both sides, my belief is is that the working relationship between the two sides is the worst that I've ever seen. The lack of collaboration, the lack of the dialog. That's my perception. What about you? Well, I covered the 81 strike buster. And again, I was like 12 years old..

"His OPS plus is adjusted OPS plus is one O four. But we know how much he means to the Orioles fans, right? So I'm going to be really curious to see how the Orioles handle trade situation. And about Stephen max, I feel like that the Red Sox are kind of lying in the weeds. They didn't sign a Rodriguez as we talked about and maybe Stephen mats who's pitched in a big market would be a good match there. Yeah, I could definitely see it. I mean, I think that Matt has the potential to get a pretty interesting deal, you know, a three plus year deal here, maybe right around three years. And he's a pitcher who really proved himself. I think this year, I mean, it's only one season, but he did not pitch well in 2020, shortened season, but he did not look good at all. But there were some underlying numbers that indicated that maybe he should have been a bit better. I mean, the difference between his ERA and his step or his ERA and his expected ERA, the numbers, the underlying numbers, were still really bad, but they were better than the 9 68 ERA. He had. And when he came over to the Blue Jays, he sort of showed that. So he had three 82 ERA this season of three 79 5th. If you look to expected ERA, which is going to consider that quality of contact four O 9, but I mean, that's still good for a middle to back end of the rotation type guy. And he showed that he could throw those innings, I believe the only time he missed was when he was on the COVID end last. And he got to a 150 innings, which is about what we saw for a handful of petros this year with the ramp up from 60 games. So I think he has the potential to really be a contributor for a team. You know, I think early in his career, there was a thought from the way the mets were treating him that maybe he was a top of Lion guy one day. I don't think that's the expectation for him anymore. But he seems like the type of Peter who can give you a solid 30 starts moving forward. Yeah, and I wonder if the Blue Jays because they know him and they worked with him this year if they could wind up being the team that lands him. But it does feel like that he will have a number of bidders because he's not super expensive like a Robbie ray, like a Kevin gossman, like a Max Scherzer. If you want to sort of work from that, you know, that middle T or then he would be one of the guys. All right, Sarah, Happy Thanksgiving. Happy Thanksgiving about sir, thanks so much for having me. "Few times here. It's amazing year for Brandon Crawford and for your San Francisco Giants. 57 32. That's the best record in major league baseball at the All Star Break. As far as you know, West Supremacy is concerned Giants two ahead of the Dodgers, six ahead of the Padres, and, you know West, the Giants of the best home record in baseball at 30 and 13 and the second best road record. 2017 19. The Red Sox are 27 17 and the Giants. Have a positive run differential of 1 16. And that is the fourth best run differential in all of Major League baseball. They have an ace and Kevin Gausman. They play excellent defense all the way around. Led by, of course, Brandon Crawford. Uh, you get excellent decision making as far as the front office is concerned, gave Kapler has been his his Transformation, if you will has been a revelation and help to the Giants. I mean, this is a team that is It's not flawless, but I don't know if you can have a better first half than they've had and setting themselves up for a nice stretch run. It was so great about that that Crawford play Which yeah, didn't even look great. He made it Looks like he may look so easy. It was like they gotta buy it. They got to buy more than staff. Yeah, Like when I was quite as he made it look easy. Yeah, that's exactly what I'm saying. Like it. Just when I thought I got a nice play and you like, realize how hard That was, But when you watched him is like, Hey, diary, dove caught it and then just flipped it over there with his club like it like it was just like there are no big deal. Got it. And then you're like got that was unbelievably difficult. For him Walk in the park. That's amazing. 43643 that to me, guys. The four and I was there. I was sitting right there on the club level for the 463 that he had later was even I would say almost better because it was It was even a closer play, and he had to just absolutely throw everything he had on on the throw. Because you know it was. It was that much of a bang bang play, and he just showed the howitzer. I mean, he just ripped it. I don't know what the villa was on that, but that was an awesome throw. And he got the guy by just a just a whisker. It must have been enough that the Nats didn't want to challenge it. But yeah, two double plays where one He just, you know, demonstrates the glove work. The other the arm. The guy. I mean, First of all, I hate the Tony the tiger take of their great But 57 32 for the Giants, who were picked by Pako to to win 75, or universally pick 4th and 5th consistently In this division and the first place I saw Russo this morning, said on his show that he thinks the Padres are in serious trouble. I mean, nobody saw this. I mean, I can't find anybody who saw this girl. Thank you. Seriously. They're great. It's unbelievable and rot. Outlined it. I mean, it's an all around greatness, You know, I mean, the run differential is great. They're leading the league in home runs like third in the league in ER, A. They're like second in the league and defense. It's amazing, and Gausman is suddenly Cy Young candidate. Posey's dialed it back five years. Crawford looks 27. It's amazing. They're they're making these moves. Everybody who comes out of the farm system producers, it's It's staggering to watch with the momentum they're carrying into the break. It really is. I mean, it really is. And you know what? It's funny, because I mean, Gausman definitely. Is a Cy Young candidate. But disco fun is not too far behind. No, he's not. I mean, his whip is 0.8, which is absurd for a starter. Disco. Funny is one A straight one. Logan Web was nasty Friday night. I mean, Gossman. That's that. Maybe The biggest surprise. God. I mean, it's hard to choose biggest surprise of the giant because Crawford's been a massive surprise as well. And so it's Posey Posey to me has been a huge surprise what he's done offensively because I didn't see ordering like that. Come and dug. Her has been an incredible I mean, revelation. Did you have an ace with cosmic? You don't No one saw them having a number one No. One. You can make a reasonable argument that Posey coming off that year. Getting healthier getting that rest. I'm not saying you could see it. But you could draw a line from taking a year off to being better, significantly better, but being better. Crawford's is surprised because you didn't see him having 18 20 home runs at at at the break, but we've seen Brandon Crawford play this type of defense his entire career and we've seen him with the bat when he's right. He can be really right. Duggar is big, but you know, maybe that has to do with him being healthy because we I think we could see the potential. Gausman being an ace. Winning aside young, possibly. I don't I don't know how you go friend. I know we had a good He's never been 500. That's what I'm saying. Better than I don't know how you go from his career. Mark two. An ace on this squad and a possible Cy Young winner. Uh, I don't to me that is the absolute biggest surprise from an injury. Really? I would. I mean, look, I don't want to say it. It's not because it is a massive surprise, but I'll even I think disco funny is bigger and bigger surprise than him because last year he was really good. Gossman was really good, so the step that he took was still a big one. Sclafani is not that far behind him, and you know, I I don't know what anybody could expect from him. I mean, the expectations were probably God. I hope he just stays in the rotation. I hope he's a good starter. Being a legit Number two and a lot of teams. He could be a number one The way he's pitching. I mean that to me. If I had to pick one, I'd pick him. It's so hard because there's so many of them. Open Web got lit up last year, and he's nails and Yeah, He hasn't done it for as many stars as those guys have only read definitely, But I would think about being highly. Where do you put gasoline? This mix, guys. I know the stats don't look good. But look at his look at the Giants record in like I think it's like 22 or 24. 4. It's I don't have the numbers in front of you, but it's a gaudy record when Kissel e starts instead of Posey. Mean, so he's been a shot. It's a surprise. But the biggest question mark for the Giants going into the season was starting pitching. That question has been answered, Thanks to Web thanks to the Sclafani. But starting with the dude, that is your legitimate age. When Gosman pitches you think what Probably gonna win this game. I don't for that percent. Friday was the best first half he's ever seen as a player or as a manager. I saw that I read that for for the Giants to have their biggest question, be starting pitching, and it has been answered. In a demonstrably positive way by Gosman being your ace. All right? I don't know, man. The other stuff is great. They're gonna be wrong. It's it's all surprised. It's all gravy. It is fantastic. The Giants have themselves a legitimate.

Um, I mean, they They know what they have in him, and he's you know, he was a four point old student at Florida State. You know, I graduated. He's a finance guy. I mean, he's a very smart guy, and he really could do anything he wants to do so I mean, we need we need guys like him. Baseball needs. Yeah, Buster Posey and and hopefully that you know he can. You can play along more a lot more and a lot more time, And I think that eventually when he does decide to Retire, He'll take a break. But then I think he will come back. Great Call Mike a couple more for you. And then we'll wrap it up just on other Giants, obviously, worthy of all star discussion at the very, very least. So we saw tattoos get the starting nod at shortstop like I know the player vote is still to come. So let's just talk Brandon Crawford for a second just to acknowledge the first half he's had. I mean, it's really surpassed. I think what a lot of people thought they would see from him this season. He's been he's been tremendous. I mean, offensively defensively. What do you think? We'll see with him. Mike, do you think that he will find his way onto the All Star roster? I think it's a lock. I think it's just a matter of you know how he goes with the appear. Um, a player pick or manager pick or, you know he's going to be on that team. He will be introduced, and he will, where the worst All Star Jersey in the history of the game. Oh, no, you've seen you've seen it. I'm like the Jersey New Jersey. Horrible, absolutely horrible. Whoever had that idea should be absolutely banned from the game. I'll tell you. That was honest to God. Mike. We said the same thing on the shell. Murph and I will. We reacted the exact same way when we saw the, uh, the pictures. It's It's pretty bad. It's just better to have your Guy out there in his own unique It is what we all like, Um, last thing Mike Kevin Gausman. All Star. Obviously, I guess the only question is is the you know the likelihood that maybe maybe he gets the nod to start the game. What do you think? Well, I mean, I think he's deserving. And I think it would be a very cool story because he's from Colorado. Um And you say something about disco. Funny it would be. You know, he has an opportunity. I would think that you know he would be on that staff somewhere. I don't know if he's in consideration for an opening assignment, and I think that the opening assignment really does belong to Jacob deGrom. His numbers are, uh, you can't even explain those. Um It's just going to depend upon his health, but, um, yeah, Gossman would just be. It's just too good of a story because it worries from Yeah. He grew up 20 minutes from the ballpark, so To me. So how does that happen? You try to keep the guys off base in front of them. You're aggressive with those guys. You can't afford to walk guys in front of in front of Shohei and then you just are really careful. You just can't afford to make mistakes and You know this giant I know this giant rotation really prides themselves on throwing strikes and attacking hitters and not not running from bats, But I think they'd be wise to run from his back his that this series. Just because I mean, like you said, Pop, there really isn't one way to pitch him. You know, you pitch him away. He's going to leave the yard to left field. You pitch a man, his bats quick enough to be able to turn on a pitch and and go out to right field. I think one place that he might be a little susceptible to is up and in fastball. But you know how many pictures can really execute that in the strike zone consistently and then also, you can get them to chase down away. So I feel like if there's ever a guy on the Giants traffic and they can have his way with Otani. He makes his pitches and executes not Gossman because he will run that basketball up 95 96, then he'll feel that gets split down on the way, so that's a good combination. But You have to stay out of the middle part of the plate with with show here right now, because like you said, he has powered all fields and when your heart you you expand a little bit, and you still make solid contact. So Be careful. That's all I got to say. Be careful. Michelle ahead. Shawn Estes is joining us from lovely New Mexico as he's a dedicated father. Uh, you I'm sure you saw last night that the umpire started checking the pictures. What did you think of that scene? I thought it was pretty comical. I mean, literally comical because you know you had you had umpires and point in pictures like literally laughing. But I think I think the umpires feel like it's ridiculous. Um, you know, they feel uncomfortable, probably doing it. You know, just can you imagine like having it be with an umpire like during the inning before like where he's squeezing the air or whatever. And then you know you're ticked off at him, And now you've got to go and give me your hat. I mean, we may see some guys get run just on there on the frisking, Um, you know, in between innings just because if there's ever a time where you may say something to do with, he hadn't said it's going to be right then and there cause your face to face with that empire. And then on top of that, you know You sitting there checking out your hat club You're getting you're getting you're getting, you know, taken down like, say, style and you know, it's just to me. It's just ridiculous. I don't I don't know how else are going to police it, but it just seems so silly to me, and I think it's something that's going to probably happened for a few weeks. And then it's just going to be really non salon. It's gonna be more of a formality. Also just don't like the fact that it's very subjective. I mean, based on the Empire based on what he feels is is illegal or not, you know, and there's certain there's certain instances where you can get tackiness and it's not Spider Pack. It's something legal. You know something spit saliva. Uh, you know, sweet saliva, whatever, like chewing chewing bubble gum, er Rosin and sweat and so like how you're supposed to differentiate that if you're an umpire, so they're not. They're going to air on the side of caution and give the pictures the benefit of the doubt anyway, so I think it's just silly to start this middle of the season. And something they definitely need to talk about. But that's something that happens in the off season. So where you can dial in maybe better protocol. Alright, man. Enjoy it. How long are you in New Mexico? Well, depending on how they play. Yeah. Thursday Thursday. They it's bracket play, but there's three and also I got here a little late because I was watching my other kids still play the tournament that I talked to you last year as a week long deal anyway, so I got here a little late, but they're only 23 games for screen out, and so it looks like they're going to probably go into Thursday and Have a chance to win this thing. So, Yeah, I'll be out here for a few days. Make it work on my trip anyway. Very cool. Drive safe. I'll update. You guys never do how it went. Yeah, let us know. Alright, man, we'll talk to you next week. Give you my kids. Stats. If they're good, I want to hear them if they're good, like that Awesome, thanks, son. See you. He's a kid stabs her great given them your hashtag sons who rake they are players. By the way. He's he's a lot better than dad than me because there's a number of tournaments. For my kid this summer and the only two I'm going to her in Reno and Las Vegas. Those are the two I'm going because you have to work, right? Yeah, That's it because I work. The other ones should go every time you have. You have availability. You don't do like I do. But there's a there's a tournament or two that his mom is taking him to. That are in less desirable places than Reno and Las Vegas. Let's just put it that way. Can't you go together? My ex wife and I. Yeah, Probably not. I'll check with the current life and see him. That would go to Alburquerque. I I have been through Albuquerque. Uh, I went I did a game at the pit once I'm trying to remember. Oh, that wouldn't be obviously with Reggie Theus. Now, that would be cool was my partner. The pit would be cool. And the pit literally is a pit. And, uh, I think after that.

"In Chinese have to pull themselves off the Met A mother's appeal themselves off the mat, come back up and play these two against the Arizona Diamondbacks and then You get four more with the Dodgers starting Tomorrow turn right back around to face the Dodgers and ate nothing win for the Giants yesterday. Did you give it all your attention? There was a lot going on yesterday. Had the media was out in tow and 40 Niner. OTA is which I think provided a lot of content yesterday. As far as 40 Niner fans are concerned who they're looking at. As far as position battles go. They had a huge group of guys show up over 80 guys showed up to the O T. A is they're allowed to have up to 91 on dear was not the expectation that would have that many. NBA playoffs going yesterday. Three big games last night, the Lakers even the Syrians with sons After a 1091 out to win the Mavericks over the Clippers. They take a two nothing weed Clippers backs against the wall Now in that series, and then the Nets hammer in the Celtics won 30 to 1. Oh, eight. The A's getting beat over at the Coliseum. Shohei Otani is hitting 117 mile in our home runs and Vlady Junior is now the major league leader in home runs with 16. So a lot going on yesterday, a lot that we can get into were gonna talk some Giants baseball here. Then on the other side, Jake Kaplan of the athletic. He covers the Houston Astros and wrote a great piece about all the top free agents short stops, including Brandon Crawford, who the Giants could be looking at this offseason, or I guess what they've done is they've tiered these short stops in the athletic. They do this, like tears renting thing they get AH group of the baseball writers every week. And on Thursdays. They do Rankings on, you know, ballpark food, the best short stops. The best left fielders may be the best power hitter is the best rookies. Whatever it is in this past week was the theme tearing ranking system of all the short stops. And basically, they've got Corey Seager at the top. Who's not even playing right now on after that, you get your favorite stories and your hobby bias. And you're Carlos Correa. And then you're down to Brandon Crawford and Market Simeon. Couple of veteran guys were having big years and Brandon Crawford with another nice game yesterday. Creative, Tony just having to wear this one man. Was kind of cool in the broadcast. After he drove in a couple more runs. They seems like every night now they're throwing up that top 10 R B I leaders in San Francisco Giants history and they were showing the picture, of course of Brandon Crawford, a candlestick and him hanging over the railing, begging the Giants not to leave in 1992 or at the end of the 92 season and it's got a cool Crawford, I think was Keiper, he said. When the Giants drafted him. They thought he was going to be a good player, but they did not anticipate. And it's tough to anticipate that unless you're taking a guy in the top 10 that he may end up being you're in the top 10 and your franchise history all time in runs driven in so good win for the Giants yesterday, ate nothing. Kevin Gossman goes five innings, nine strikeouts and really was the pitch count. They got him. He could have gotten a little deeper. I think sort of funny about the strike out. It comes back to the lesson. Gentler and watching Bull Durham, right, Dave, the try to get some ground balls. They're more democratic strikeouts of boring. Besides that, they're fascist. You go deep into counts like that. You're getting a lot of swings and misses like he does Kevin Gossman and and often times, you know, make it that deep into the ballgame because you're striking guys that you're working deep into counts, But he looked pretty good yesterday and the Giants bullpen, obviously flawless when he came there, allowing run, so a game they should have won and they did win. Here's the The sort of catch to all this. The Dodgers went out yesterday and hammered the Astros in Houston. Clayton Kershaw out seven innings gives up one run. It was just a solo home run to Alex Bregman struck out six. I watch a lot of that game. Good game for Kershaw yesterday. Stuff to watch Man. I've watched a lot of Dodger Baseball this year, just trying to Gonna change the energy don't root against the Dodgers, and they are a dangerous, dangerous, dangerous team of the Giants. I think you're looking for two this weekend. You're really hoping you're going to get to know Trevor Bauer against the Giants this weekend since cursed out through yesterday, he'll be scheduled to throw on Sunday in this series. And so they will not see Trevor Bauer since power goes today, so four games step, But you're gonna Miss Bauer this time around against the Dodgers. The question is who the Giants are gonna have going in that series. Now that Logan Web spot, the Scott Casper spot would be scheduled to come up on Friday. I guess this week they were talking about a lot of injury reports stuff coming out yesterday for the Giants, a few guys as far as pitchers are concerned. Logan Web Aaron Sanchez and Tyler Beatty. Three guys with think Giants fans on the Giants brass I've been looking at is as coming back soon. Logan Web obviously the closest to returning Remember. He was missed his last start because of a shoulder strain He was up to throwing at 90 ft. They said yesterday. They're going to see how his arm reacts to it to throw enough flat ground yesterday to see if he'll be ready to go this weekend, Aaron Sanchez went out to see Dr Neil Allen trashing Elway arms specialist because This is one of the weirder stories for the Giants is that he was throwing Finery needs in his workout off of the shoulder injury or a labor of injury over the last couple of seasons and the Giants that he was gonna be some flamethrowers the back into the rotation and see after pumping like 89 90 91. He was giving Alex but he just was not as effective. I don't think as the Giants and hoped and didn't have the spin right that they had hoped he would have coming in to this season..

"You back to back couple of good starts, but maybe could have gone deeper in this game, too. Said you were having shoulder soreness. How's Logan Web feeling? No, I don't. I don't think there's there's much concerned, you know, kind of see how it goes the next two days and then kind of go from there. All right, so just fuck sort of easy going about it. He's always pretty like soft spoken and kind of laughs at himself a little bit, and I don't know I find myself rooting for Logan Web a lot. Getting a Rockland over at Dave knows Big Raider fans. So I like rooting for Logan Web the local kid. What more from Logan Web Here? We were talking about how four of the guys four of the five guys In the Giants rotation are former Cincinnati Reds. Alex Wood was there. Kevin Gossman was there and they just by the way, they nontendered Kevin Gossman. He could have had him back for virtually nothing and decided to years ago to just let him walk. Not have him in their bullpen, not let him compete for a spot in the rotation. They just let him walk away. The Reds have made some funky moves over the last couple of years. They made that trade to go get, uh, Yoshio plead. They made the trade to go get Trevor Bauer that these guys gave Wolf plead gets good. Excuse me. Bauer has ah, huge turnaround to his season being bip, sticky substance or or changing his spin rate. However, he's done that. But there's been some peculiar moves. I feel like Cincinnati has the last couple of years they were traded. For Nick Castano's Who was the tiger and then he was the really trade form of the segment free agency. I think actually was created from the Tigers to the Cubs and then was a free agent then snatched up, so they made some weird moves over the last few years. And while they've been competitive the times today, the Derek Dietrich run for a while where he was wearing a sleeveless Hey, and we were wearing the sleeveless jerseys. They were all muscled out oil in themselves up before the game, but Southern out there, and they're not winning ball games. No, man, I don't know. But anyway, the Giants have found great success before these guys DeSclafani, Kevin Gossman, Alex Wood, and, of course, Johnny Cueto. The came up with the Cincinnati Reds years ago, Logan went asked them about pitching in this ballpark hasn't thrown in this ballpark. Great American Small Park is with Jeff. So Marcia previously called It's a bandbox. Now could we could almost outside of Colorado couldn't find somewhere asses bad as a pitcher's park, then sensitive Since that he's up there. Philadelphia's up their ball flies out. What do you say in Dave? Which was the ballpark? They say in Fenway yet the lines you get Fenway pretty sure getting enough. Yeah, Yeah. Left handers down, passkey. Pull way You're talking Davia. That little short wall, too. You can go flying over get a fly ball to left field. That thing's gone. Basically just had a pop up to left field that thinking leave the yard anyway. Logan Webb asked the veteran starters, all of them. Spent time in this ballpark as members of the Reds organization. How do you pitch at Great American Small park? There's a couple there's a couple guys that they that I talked the other guys about, but not about the ballpark. They just said Keep the ball down. Got it? Thanks. That was that was about it. Keep the ball down. I can't rember who it was. I want to say it was I always feel like I heard Randy Johnson say it, but I'm guessing he quoted somebody else. And I think, Randy one time said, You know why they tell you to keep the ball down. You ever seen somebody had a 500 for ground ball Pretty good line. I don't think it was Randy's line. I think he was quoting some of their legendary pitcher, but always thought that was a pretty good one. That's where you keep the ball down. You know how I also know. I just want show. You know, Tony hit a ball over his head like 440 ft. Just laser that thing out of there. How about my just risky steps up to the plate yesterday hits in his sixth home run of the season? Yes, still showing. He's got some pop and said he was feeling a little better after running into the wall the other day in in Pittsburgh, he was a Vanderbilt guy, Sonny Gray Vanderbilt guy. They were roommates. So we're buddies in college. They spent a lot of time together during the pandemic, playing these like pickup style games, or almost like an extended spring training. A lot of these players got together and played over the pandemic season last year. Well, they were waiting to get spring training two point. Oh, back up. Running, so they asked us yesterday. You know, Sonny. Really Well, you played against him during the pandemic. You guys were working out together. How was he going to complain? Going up against your old team mate and your old roommate? Um, I think a lot. I probably had more bats off him and that shut down time, then A lot of people have had in their careers and just knowing Sonny and kind of how he pitched me there and how he likes to pitch. Um, I think help me out a little bit today, something grace but one of the more consistent pitchers in baseball since leaving water boys New York Yankees like that. It's funny, too. He's one of those guys like wanted to be a Yankee. Remember, he was stoked about getting traded over there, and it was all happy about it. And by the way, these were still now just getting some of the players up to the big leagues. James completely and making his debut last week against the Red Sox. He's one of the guys who came over in that deal, but yeah, it was a It was the not a great run in New York for sending Granny's pitch pretty well as a member of the Cincinnati Reds. So kind of cool to see you as take him deep yesterday, and then they asked you has about it..

"You have the opportunity to To get some of these guys in security. So Giants Club has lost four games. It has lead after six innings this year and his own six in games that have been tied after seven. They don't with Maurin. They've dealt with more bullpen issues in the last week, of course, Harlan Garcia give up a run in the seventh before Matt Whistler gave up those back to back home runs us. Well, I forgot Harlan. The former Marlin came in, and it was the back to back home runs from May Quinn and a Dokdo Suarez in the eighth inning, so Yeah, Bullpen an issue And this is something they ran into a little bit last year, Right? Trevor got last year, those couple of blown games to the A's. And then the one down in in Anaheim. The home run that he gave up to Tommy lost Ella. But giants are getting healthier. They're hoping they can get healthier. Getting guys back a capital yesterday said that Donovan Solano gonna continue with his rehab stint Gonna be a little bit more time for Tommy lost Ella, but nice to see woman. Floris hit a home run yesterday, too. That was big for him. He was 1 80 as of Saturday and and really is clawed back. Handsome better at bats this week or in the last 3 to 4 days, So I pretty good home run for him. Mikey stretched. He hits a home run off his college roommate in Sonny Gray. Don't forget might just Rimsky and Sonny Gray. We're playing a bunch of those like sand lot baseball games over the offseason, or I guess during the pandemic last year, guys were getting together and just sort of getting some work in. It Might just Trump's keep is one of those guys get all those Vanderbilt dudes together out in out in Tennessee, and they're playing baseball during the pandemic and So that he said that they had talked about that He and Sonny Gray about him hitting a home run at some point, son, he said, If you do it, it better be a solo shot. So we'll give you some reaction from us after the game after hitting the home run off of Sonny Great yesterday, too, so a bunch of big flies for the Giants point I'm looking up right now, and it will be network and just watched. Just watch show Hell, tiny Tomahawk, a ball that's like it's at his eyes. Like, you know, Tommy's insane man 13th home run of the season last year, he leads all the baseball by the way, he's going to be a rate of 2.1. Also, the poor angels man just wasted away down there in Anaheim. My truck got hurt. Yesterday pulled his calf running on a pop up between 2nd and 3rd. He strained his calf and exited the game. So I was beyond fragile. He was brutal man. He slammed his helmet on the ground after tubes all frustrated. We gotta get that. Get back to the playoffs, man. They're just wasting him. They're just wasting the greatest player of this generation. He's played in three playoff games. He's one for 12 in his in his career at the plate in the postseason, he's got more MVP's than he does hits in the playoffs. He's played as many playoff games. He has MVPs crazy. Just absurd. Just absurd. Anyway. Sorry, Tom, I I was just watching Otani hit up. There was an insane home remedy it last night, the edge of velocity of waiting Tomahawks at the the lift. He's able to get on the ball. That's that high over his head Insane anyway, we can get back into some of the stuff with the Giants want to talk more about this rotation to I was reading an article yesterday about this four guys in the Giants rotation, formerly Cincinnati Reds. Johnny Cueto. The school. Funny. Kevin Gossman, Alex would all guys who had pitched in Cincinnati so all guys, you know how to get out in Cincinnati and Logan Webb talked about that said, Hey, yeah, I talked to these veteran guys. They told me keep the ball down. Also kind of a cool moment when they got into Cincinnati the other day. Apparently, they all went to this restaurant. Johnny Cueto tweeted it out just the starting pitchers in the picture. The pitching coaches. Went out to look like it was Bailey and banister and disco Gossman Would Cueto and Web all went out to dinner. Look like they were shooting in, like a like a Godfather room like they were sitting in like it was an Italian restaurant called Soto. I guess and Cincinnati and and they're all I guess. Well versed are familiar with the cuisine of the Queen City. So They went out there and all the pictures sat together and had a meal and I just logon Web get to pick your brain about how to get out, and he pitched pretty well yesterday to a tune of a 6 to 3 win. Tony Disco takes the ball today three and one with a 2.14 41 strikeouts on the season for him to be opposed by former Giants far man Luis Castillo, who has been Awful this year, one of the worst pictures starting pitchers in all of baseball this year. They're one in seven and his eight starts. He's got a 7.71 e R. A 29 strikeouts with a one and five records so S so it'll be a toss right? So it'll be like a picture's door. Absolutely check out right. We'll come back to the to the average just a little bit so stuff we can talk about, but on the other side will hear from Gabe Kapler, where from Logan Webb also Mike Jastremski, who hit that home run off of his college roommate yesterday. Then we've got to get into some stuff for the 40 Niners. Guys were showing up to practice their doing this mini camp and What? Reporters are not out there. Jimmy Garoppolo is their depot. Samuels there, Brendan. I yuks there. George Kittles there. Fred Warner's. They're some of the bigger names after the NFL Players Association said, Yeah, we should. We should refrain from showing up to these things this year. We should be careful about this. Some of these guys are, like, get incentive money for showing up to these workouts. I think I'm gonna go gonna go collect my check, so they're working out down in in Santa Clara. We can hit on some of that, as well as well as some of the changes to the Jersey numbers think you're gonna have to get used to later this year and Dave, We never ran through the schedule together so we can talk about that a little bit later as well. Plenty more coming up into Tuesday morning, Giants get the win 6 to 36 and 10, You know 63 over the center line item at six. And 10 Cincinnati Reds yesterday we'll hear from Gabe Kapler on the other side when the lead house black Continues day and we are one of 45 and 6 83 sports leader leases the leadoff spot with Adam Copeland on FM, and this is KNBR 1045 and 6 80, these sports leader,.

"That is always bugged. The hell out of me and most people. I explain this to do not feel the same way. It's the rule on defensive indifference when you're late to a ball game, and the team's got like a five or a six or a seven run lead, there's a runner on first, and he decides he's gonna run to second base. Nobody goes to cover second. Nobody goes to throw down to second. I've always felt as though just because I took the bag and you didn't protect it. Doesn't mean I didn't steal it. I went out my stolen and because there's no clock in baseball. Every run could end up being important, especially because if you put together a rally in that run, maybe because he stole second would have been in that would have been an out and maybe now it's more impactful. What are your thoughts on the defense of indifference and how it's scored in the game a base? I am 100% in favor of giving those players stolen bases in part because ah lot of times. When defensive indifference occurs. It's not the traditional base dealers who were taking advantage of the situation. And so it's guys padding stats late in games. They're not getting credit for it. Look, I would I would love for someone like Brandon Belt to get his 10th steal of the year and get six of those on defensive and differences because you're achieving something like you. It still takes a heads up play. It still requires you. You get a good lead to make sure that you don't get picked off into be smart on the basis because things can happen in an instant at the major league level. You know, a team can put a pick off play on real quick and get you And so I'm just a believer in the idea of rewarding players for those stats, and it goes back to give the guy the R B I for the ground out double play with the bases loaded. Give the guy the R B. I give the guy the air when he overthrows first base, even though it out has been recorded on the play. Just believe everything should count copes well, and the other issue with that is like there's no set rule as far as when defensive indifference comes into play like doesn't only come into play when you've got more than a four run lead doesn't come into play. When you've got a 10 run, we'd like it's one of those things like obscenity. I'll know when I see it you they have a big enough lead, and they didn't try to guard the base. So there's also instances where defense like have we ever seen defensive indifference happen? Not in the ninth inning doesn't have to happen in the ninth or later because I don't think we've ever seen it in like the sixth where a guy gets a great job. Um, they don't throw the ball down. They call that a steel. They don't call that defensive indifference, even though the catcher didn't make a throw, So I think you should get credit for a steel. I'm totally with you. How about about just sort of piggybacking on that We see in Austen's later swipe some bags this year. Who's gonna lead the Giants and stolen bases in 2021? 2021 Austin Slater. No question. You look around this roster and you wonder if anyone else is going to get to five steals. It might require Elliot Ramos getting a call up in July for someone to get there because this giant seem Gabe Kapler said it on Wednesday night. The base running has not been good. It is something that they need to address. Even the fast guys like Marie CIA, Dubon have had several mistakes on the basis. Wilmer Flores rounding first base on Wednesday night, and not realizing that everyone had held up and getting thrown out in between 1st and 2nd base was yet another example of how bad the Giants are going station to station on the basis and just making heads up plays and so Or as good as they've been on defense Copes. I am so down on the Giants based running it is something that clearly needs to be addressed. Clearly needs to be fixed in without a whole lot of team speed. I'm not so sure how much it gets better. But Austin Slater to me is the one guy who might be able to get 10 stolen bases. We'll see if my talk man makes it seem like talking. He's got some speed. And so if he gets on the basis hey may do some damage. It's funny how how little power he has displayed. I know a couple of years ago, he showed a little bit more power, but it's funny based on his size. He's like 622 20, ut Imagine this is sort of Ah, big, strapping dude who meet in 20 homers a year, but so far, not the case, right? He kind of looks like he could play outside linebacker. And like a 43 scheme, like on Not not quite like, you know the Sam but is someone who could play in space? Maybe cover a tight end from time to time Center field. Who knows? But Mike talk, man. He's got the athletic body. And, as you know, picked off Jimmy Garoppolo in high school. Yeah, that's what they're talking about, man who hasn't right? I was hoping somebody without that that was gonna find out of my mouth. Think about somebody just sort of hammered on that, too. He's okay was staring me down, staring me down. I was like, Damn, Jimmy's The same. Hasn't learned anything else. Damn talk when he got him, man. Funny stuff. Hey, one more here. A Zafar is the well, I got two more for you. Actually. How about this one quality question Number two, which giant Starting pitcher? As of right now, you give us that great note is most likely. To make the All Star team isn't Kevin Gossman. Is it d Sclafani? Or is it Alex would go? That is a really tough when I was thinking last night with the way that Alex would looks. It's going to be tough for anyone to be better than him on this giant staff. Right now, I'm gonna lean Gosman, and I'm going to say that because the splitter is the most devastating pitch of any Giants pitcher. In anyone's arsenal right now, And so I do believe in gospel, long term, but It's a tough call between him and Alex would. I think the D school father will be home prone to giving up a few home run balls when they get on the road? But Gosman is too so Maybe it is Alex. What if he can keep the ball in the park in the NL West, and he's been an all star before so Wouldn't shock me to see the gang copes. All right, Good one. They're all right. This last one. We're gonna put a twist on. We played this game. At the end of every show. You get to walk. We give you three hitters. You get to walk one. You have to pitch the one and you have to drill wondered if you drill him. He's coming out to fight you. No, I'm gonna I'm gonna put a twist on this because earlier this week, I don't if you saw this, Max Scherzer gave up a couple of home runs, including a grand slam to flat American hero junior of the Toronto Blue Jays. Well, they showed I saw on MLB network a side by side of Baxter's or years ago, giving up a home run Tau Vlady Sr and his reaction was almost the exact same like, takes his hat off and runs his fingers through his hair. So here's the question. It's a father son combination. You're going to drill the current player, and I'm gonna tag team with you, But we're gonna have to fight both of these guys. If they come out to the mound, Carrie It's me and you so so our lives are on the line here, right? It's Vlady. Junior Vlady Senior Walk one pitched a one strike one out. We're gonna go in pairs. Vlady Junior Vlady Senior Fernando to teach Junior Fernando Tante senior or Cavin, BDO and Craig Biggio your thoughts. Well, we're drilling the BDO family because Craig Biggio leads the majors and all time hit by, that's it..

MLB Opening Day 2021: Seattle Mariners Face San Francisco Giants

"Night 2021 for the Seattle Mariners has arrived. The EM so San Francisco with Marco Gonzalez, starting for the EMS and Kevin Gossman for the Giants manager Scott Service says the club is looking forward to having fans back at T Mobile Park. You know, you get a rally going at home and you start building off the adrenaline and momentum that the crowd can help bring you in on the flip side, having to deal with it on the road, you know as a young player, and you're on the mound or you're having a big at bat with the game on the line, and you know that. All part of growing and maturing as a major league players how to handle those situations. A limited number of fans, 9000 will be at the park to watch opening Day 2021.

"gossman" Discussed on KNBR The Sports Leader

"One guy that stands out to me and we'll get to Luciano. We've talked so much about him and how exciting and tantalizing he is. But we're talking bullpen, arms and guys who have a legitimate shot to make this team and one of the parting gifts from Bobby Evans. It seems like one of these guys. Camilo dove all he's been in the system time now did we saw him against the Dodgers the other night? He is exciting, and I think is you put out carry the best hair in the Giants bullpen right now. Oh, yeah, he he does have the best care because last year they had a guy Rodolfo Martinez, who was a Johnny Cueto look like just with better dreadlocks than Johnny Cueto. If you can imagine that this year, they've got Camilo Jovel who does not have better dreadlocks. But he has died his dreadlocks, so they're like orangish Red, And I'm hoping that by the regular season he'll have in his Giants Orange, because could you imagine that coming out of the bullpen? Got weapon 97 98 with a cutter and the breaking off a nasty slider. And then all of a sudden he's got the closer like hair, Camilo Devil and you make a great point. He is a parting gift from Bobby Evans. And this is something that we should talk about. I should write about eventually is all the parting gifts from Bobby Evans because you're starting to see the fruit of the Giants International. Sign me focus coming through the system. Marco Luciano, a Bobby Evans guy, Alexander Canario, Bobby Evans Guy. Curving Castro, a Bobby Evans guy. And so the Giants are starting to see this focus that we saw in the like post 2014 2015 World Series era where they went down to the Dominican Republic, Venezuela and other Latin American countries and sign some dudes and you're seeing that those dudes who they got when they were 16 17 years old are coming through this farm system and are going to be ready to contribute and so The village of all immediately popped out the other night against the Dodgers Cubs, But there's several other players, several other young players. Several other young pitchers who have really stood out so far. Well in another one is from the left side. Jake long this kid is from Sacramento. I think you would the Sac state or he's like up from the Northern California area. So he said. It was so funny. The quote I saw from him the other day was Buster Posey called him over to throw a bullpen and he called him by his name, and he was all stoked that Buster newest name because he's of that age group beauties like you and I. If Buster called us over, he'd be like, dude, that's Buster Posey calling my name so Him from the left side. You know, I hate to do the com thing, but I'm getting I'm getting Billy Wagner Vibes. Dude, What do you think? Billy Wagner vibes? That's that's fascinating. And so the reason I say that is because the jobs are actually building this guy up is a starter there. They're thinking of him a 97 from the left side, a guy with a hammer curveball and a good change up there looking at him as someone who could actually be in the rotation. And so when can't first started? Gabe Kapler traffic trump Buster Posey. They all said. Hey, pay some attention to this Sam Long guy. He's got something to him. And we're thinking, okay, This is just, you know, a guy who threw two good bullpens. You never know that happens every spring. He's probably a double A or maybe a triple a arm who could help them out of the bullpen Eventually. Then all of a sudden, he appears in the Cactus League opener against the Angels, and he has got major league stuff. No question in my mind after seeing him. Three pitches in I turn to Mark Sanchez in the press box. I go. I have seen enough. This guy can help the Giants right now, and I think that in keeping him as a starter and sending him down to triple A or double a to open up the season, you're potentially talking about someone copes who could somehow morphed his way into the Giants top pitching prospect and maybe beat Sean Jelly or Tristen back or some things other guys. The chance to excited about to the major league level. And so it's really fasting to see Sam Long come out of the bullpen because you're juxtaposing that with guys like Camilo, Javelin Caribbean Castro, who is another guy, Bobby Evan, signed who just has that hammer curve coming out of the bullpen 97. Very little mite early experience. But there are the pieces in place and you can correct me if I'm wrong. If you've seen anything differently, the first three or four days of spring training their pieces in place for the Giants to have one of the most exciting bullpens and Major league baseball and potentially one of the best is far as electricity goes like with stuff
